Improving The Digital Divide And The 21st Century
Information Technology is becoming more and more important in all aspects of people lives
nowadays, namely access to computers and internet. It is believed that technology will guide
businesses in the 21st century. However, it is argued that it would be nonsense to strongly rely on
computer when in fact, for the big portion of population, access to computer and internet is not a
reality. The main purpose of this essay is to outline the advantage and disadvantages of improving the
digital divide by firstly address all the factors or barriers that contribute to the digital divide issues.
Next, it will come up with some alternative solutions of how digital divide can be overcome and lastly,
this essay will outline all the advantages and disadvantages of bridging the digital divide.
Interaction between human and the information technology is increasing greatly in the 21st century.
The ability to access to information technology is significantly important for a person to actively take
part in the economic, social aspect of the world. However, there are only 39% of world population
have access to this technology (Refer to Appendix 1). The term Digital Divide has quickly become so
popular that it has entered everyday speech as shorthand for any and every disparity within the online

Agriculture in the Himalayas of Nepal Essay
Agriculture in the Himalayas of Nepal
According to some estimates, as much as 90% of Nepal s population relies on agriculture for its
sustenance.[1] The significant climactic variations between Nepal s sub tropical Terai region, hills
region, and Himalayan mountain region lead to a variety of different agricultural models. Within the
northern Himalayan region, additional variations in agricultural style exist because of changes in the
qualities of available soil and quantities of moisture at different altitudes. Some researchers remark
that it is even possible to anticipate the ethnicity of a group in a rural Himalayan village by glancing at
an altimeter, as the traditional lifestyles maintained by the Nepali speaking caste Hindus ... Show more

As they rely heavily on their crops to sustain themselves, they tend to remain in areas where
agriculture can continue throughout the year.
In midland mountainous regions from 2,500 to 3,200 meters above sea level, sub Tibetan groups (or
groups of Tibetan ethnicity and culture) grow one crop of wheat or barley per winter and one crop of
buckwheat during the summer. The climate in this region is cool and dry, and the dry field agriculture
used requires less labor than rice cultivation. This allows them to raise cattle, water buffalo and goats
to supplement their diet.[4]At even higher altitudes, where low levels of moisture permit only a single
crop of wheat or barley, yak, which are well suited for high altitudes, become a major component of
the lifestyle.[5] In the northern areas of Nepal, Tibetan pastoralists travel to altitudes reaching up to
5,200 meters as they seek out pasture for their animals during the summer monsoon season, although
few permanent habitations can be found above 4,000 meters. Where possible, these groups make up
for shortages in grain and other goods by trading wool, butter, meat, and draught animals. They may
also hunt, fish, and forage for wild plants, although habitat destruction from deforestation has caused a
decline in the availability of game and fish resources in much of Nepal, making it increasingly
difficult to rely on these assets for food.[6]
Unlike many third world countries, no strong landowning

Taking a Look at Harriet Tubman
Eagle success biography paper
Harriet Tubman Harriet not only had dream but she was determined to stand up for what she had
believed. Harriet was a brave young girl who had escaped slavery at a young age and wanted to help
others get out of that life just as she did, and that s what I am going to be telling you today.
At first, In my research I couldn t find any evidence on which exact day harriet was born but i could
find that she was born around 1820 s near Dorchester County on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, near
the town of Cambridge (graceproducts.com). Harriet was given the name Araminta Ross later that
year she had taken on her mother s name of Harriet. When she had turned six she had been taken ten
miles to live with James Cook. His wife who was a weaver was to teach her the trade of weaving.
Cook had her work on the trapline to help catch wild animals. He had to work the lines while she was
ill with the measles, and catching cold from wading in the water in the condition, she grew very sick. I
had reasoned this out in my mind; there was one of two things I had a right to, liberty, or death; if I
could not have one, I would have the other; for no man should take me alive; I should fight for my
liberty as long as my strength lasted, and when the time came for me to go, the Lord would let them
take me. Harriet Tubman (graceproducts.com).

Essay On Lead
Despite the documented reduction in the general population s exposure to lead , research continues to
demonstrate significant increases in risk of adverse outcomes in both children {Wigle, 2005

exposures, that may induce present and future health effects {Nash, 2003 #99;Nash, 2004 #100}.

persistence of past uses (such as house paint, automotive fuels, and plumbing), further understanding

In this study, we aim to study the association between environmental exposures to lead in children,
living in the vicinity of the lead and zinc smelters in Torreón, Mexico, and heart rate variability.
Methods
Study participants
The data used in this analysis was collected as part of the Cuida tu Corazon ( Take care of your heart ;
C2C) study, which was carried out primarily to evaluate the association between heavy metals and
measures of cardiovascular and renal function in older children who are living in Torreon, Mexico, in
the vicinity of the Met Mex Peñoles lead and zinc smelters. We used a census developed by the Health
Department of the State of Coahuila to identify children aged 12 15 who had with at least one
measurement of blood lead level prior to the who aged 12 to 15 years at the time of the study (2009
2010), which was 6,254. We stratified this group bby quintiles of earlier blood lead levels and
randomly selected children individuals from each 5 blood lead levels strata to achieve a representative
sample of lead exposures with a final study size of target sample of 512 participants.
Sample size and power calculation
The sample size was calculated so that study hadwill have a greater than 90% power to detect an
increase in outcome (log heart rate variability measures) of 15% of their standard deviation or greater
for each doubling of blood lead exposure levels. This was based on blood lead levels in the 2001

Animal Rape Research Paper
They say if a frog is initially placed in boiling water, it will jump out. But if the temperature is
gradually brought to a boiling point, the frog will stay and be cooked alive. The same principle might
be applied to societal invasion today. Why destroy a nation or a culture in one massive attack? Would
the results of such a bold move outweigh its costs? Would opposition to such a movement not be swift
and without mercy? Or, rather, why not slowly permeate a culture from the inside out, cranking up
tensions ever so slightly, just enough to assert authority, but not enough to set off too many warning
bells. Why not saturate a society so wholly its people do not recognize the problem until it s too late?
Such is the case in Europe, particularly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When their appeals to their constituents are based almost solely on emotion, will emotional arguments
in turn sway them? What about the migrant who said, It s not as wrong raping a Swedish girl as raping
an Arab girl (Steen)? Will they consider the migrants who leave Germany and vacation in the
countries they fled from? What about the refugee who raped a mentally ill fifteen year old Swedish
girl in her psych ward? Or perhaps the mentally ill aren t important enough. Will the brutal murder
(involving wrapping a dead snake around the man s neck and tying him up) of a gay man in Göteborg,
Sweden, by two Moroccan migrants be severe enough for LGBT rights activists to protest? Or maybe
the Jewish girl in Sweden who was raped at age twelve, then stalked and harassed (emotionally,
physically, and sexually) by the migrant rapist s brother and mother for several months afterwards, and
as a result had to escape to Norway because local authorities would not punish the migrants in the
slightest? When does enough become enough?
There are far more incidents I could mention, but for the sake of brevity, I will conclude with the
following pictures documenting refugee crime in Germany and the surrounding nations. As of

Melissa Mccarthy Case Study
The new member of the Ghostbusters team, Melissa McCarthy, is not a fan of labeling clothes as plus
size and is not afraid to voice her opinion about it. McCarthy believes that the plus size label gives
majority of women in America the feeling of not being good enough. Women come in all sizes.
Seventy percent of women in the United States are a size 14 or above, and that s technically plus size,
she told Refinery29. So you re taking your biggest category of people and telling them, You re not
really worthy. I find that very strange, McCarthy said.
Why are women being segregated into different categories? The 44 year old, mother of two believes
fashion designers should create apparel for all women and do away with labels. I just think, if you re
going to make women s clothing, make women s clothing. She also feels that women designers are
making the process of creating clothing unnecessarily complex. Designers that put everyone in

What Is My Dream House Essay
Places we spend our life is veru significant because our moods are affected by the design and location.
Simplicity is beauty. That s what people usually say about many things. But, for me simplicity is not
enough when it comes about my dream house. My dream house would still be simple but in another
manner. It wouldn t be simple that it has simple designs, yet it would be still appealing in my eyes.
House is the place to stay together with part of our family. A good house is the house that makes the
dweller feel so comfortable. It is the place where we can shelter and it gives us protection from rain,
heat, strom etc. Everyone has their own choice on what type of house they feel comfortable to live in.

refreshing by the breeze coming from those trees which the peoples of village have planted behind my
dream house. It would feel so good. I choose to have my house near the village and river so that, I will
feel fresh and so lucky living in the natural environment around me. I also think about air pollution
and water pollution in my dream house. I can find fresh water and greenry. It is very difficult, if we
live in the big city which has high air and water pollution. So, we can t find peace in that place. I
chosse to have river nearby because it would be natural. I would gofor fishing whenever I feel bored.

its location aswell as its inner and outer design. I have been fascinated by river because of the sounds

Patrick Henry Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Death
Leeanne N. Weeks
October 6, 2017
American Revolution Leader: Patrick Henry
Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death this quote was said by Patrick Henry in March 23, 1775.
When Patrick Henry was only 15 years old, he had a business with his father. The business they had
didn t last that long. Then he married Sarah Shelton in 1754. He also studied to be a lawyer. In 1757
he and his wife lost their farm house to a fire.
Patrick Henry is an American Revolution hero who played an important role during the Revolutionary
War because he was a big leader. He was a Virginia lawyer and a politician.
He was an outspoken opponent in the stamp act and in the Townshend act by authority of England.
Patrick was an amazing public speaker and a big figure of the American Revolution, he was best
known for his words Give me liberty or give me death
Henry was selected in 1774 to assign the continental congress in Philadelphia. There he met Sam
Adams and they together were excited to fire for the revolution war. During the moment henry called
the colonists to come together in their position to overcome the British. The next year, henry gave his
most known famous speech of his entire career. He was one of the people to represent the Virginia
Convention in March 1775. The group was thinking how they are going to get things over with, with
the crisis of Great Britain. He wanted everything to go buy smooth full and end with peace.

Literature Review On Media Violence
PSY 4111 Literature Review. E. Langslow
Trends across research suggest exposure to media violence positively correlates with subsequent
violent behaviour
In this era of internet connectivity, access to an array of violent media stimuli is readily available.
Scientific exploration of the effects of such exposure on real world violent behaviour carries potential
ramifications for the safety of global communities. Media violence is understood here as stimuli that
includes depictions of violence or calls to violent action and includes image, video, television and
gaming. Violent behavior is defined as behavior causing emotional or physical harm expressed
verbally or physically. Whilst there remains no causal proof for the ... Show more content on

The Bobo doll study found that children were more likely to imitate violent behaviour they witnessed
in a film if they perceived the behaviour would generate positive outcomes (Bandura, Ross, Ross,
1963). Later findings across three decades of cognitive research on the effects of learning and priming
concluded thoughts are connected by similar association, with media stimuli cognitively relating to
memories and responses to trigger violent schemata retrieval in real world situations (Berkowitz,
1984; Bushman Geen, 1990; L Rowell Huesmann Eron, 2013). Findings in two general aggression
model (GAM) studies that complement cognitive frameworks, both monitored increases in physical
arousal as potential determinants for short term violent behavior. Again, positive correlations were
found following exposure to media violence.(Bushman Anderson, 2001; Thomas, Horton, Lippincott,
Drabman, 1977). Environmental factors
A range of studies assert that causes of violent behavior are complex at the level of environmental
influence and compare other learning, modelling and disinhibiting factors. This is an area where
opposition to the hypothesis is more common. Two longitudinal studies assessing levels of violence
pre and post the introduction of television found a positive correlation, however

Wound Cleansing: Water or Normal Saline? Wound cleansing has been discussed about for many
years, different solutions and techniques have been discussed to use, and it is an important part of
preventing infection. Wound cleansing is described as the use of fluids to remove debris and dead
tissue from the surface of the wound. The purpose of wound cleansing is to make the best possible
conditions at the wound site, for uncomplicated wound healing. The most commonly used solution

One of the articles that was reviewed to determine if tap water would be appropriate for wound
cleansing was a systematic review by Fernandez and Griffiths (2007). In this study, various
randomized and quasi randomized controlled trials comparing the effects of water with other solutions
for wound cleansing were assessed. Of the nine trials used in this study, five trials were identified that
compared the rates of infection in wounds cleansed with water or normal saline (Fernandez amp;
Griffiths, 2007). These trials involved people of all ages, with a wound of any etiology, in different
settings including hospitals, communities, nursing homes, general practice, and wound clinics. The
trials also included an objective measure of wound infection, such as bacterial counts, wound cultures,
or wound biopsy (Fernandez amp; Griffiths, 2007). After data extraction and analysis of the trials, the
authors concluded that there was no statistical significance between cleansing with tap water and
normal saline (Fernandez amp; Griffiths, 2007). However, the authors also acknowledged two major
flaws in this review, including the lack of consistency in the criteria and validated tools of
measurement used to assess wound infection, as well as insufficient detail in reporting the method

The True Meaning Of Reading Is Not A Disinterested...
For many years authorial intention was recognised as the only true meaning of a text. A philosopher in
the twentieth century, Edmund Hursell, recognised the power of consciousness and the phenomenal
reality of an appearance which defers questions about an ultimate end. Phenomenology notes an
objects existence, but achieves meaning and finds reality through an active conscious and awareness
which registers the object, suspending all presuppositions, inferences, or judgements. A text, when
criticised phenomenologically, is seen in aesthetic and affective aspects, existing only in the reader.
Scholar Stanley Fish extended these ideas into what is now called Reader Response Criticism, or R
RC discussing the influence the reader has on the interpretation, making reading an active activity
(Cowgill 5). This essay will discuss the idea that reading is not a disinterested activity by applying
new critic ideals to enforce upon the notion that meaning is drawn from the readers own
interpretations, shaped by their active engagement with the text.. More recently, in 2003, Lisa
Zunshine further developed the importance of the reader in textual meaning by drawing from
cognitive psychology in her article Theory of the Mind . Zunshine suggests that such an activity is the
basis for the very existence of the novel as we know it; the reason we read fiction is because it
exercises our mind reading ability (Polvinen). Readers become active participants in the creation of
the work through

The Factors Of Teenage Pregnancy
Teenage pregnancy is normally identified as a deprived life choice, for example, tasks of teenage
parenting have long term impact on the mental health of the mother and children (Statistics New
Zealand, 2003). It is important to identify the socioeconomic factors of teenage pregnancy to lower the
chances of mental health problems in young mothers. In this paper the aim is to analyse the main
socioeconomic factors of teenage pregnancy and discuss how it affects the mental health of an
adolescent mother in New Zealand. This essay will commence by identifying how a lack of education
is considered as a socioeconomic factor associated with teenage pregnancy, followed by the second
theme which will consist of economic circumstances such as, parental unemployment and welfare
dependency. Lastly, this essay will discuss how deficiency of support from family and friends leads to
unstable relationships, which has a huge impact on a teenage mother s mental health. A lack of
education is one of the main socioeconomic factors which impact the mental health of an adolescent
mother. Studies show a number of negative outcomes that are linked with dropping out of school at an
early age. For example, youth that tends to gain fewer educational qualifications are more likely to be
in unstable relationships resulting in a lack of knowledge regarding contraceptive use which leaves
them to deal with economic circumstances (Breheny Stephens, 2008; Friesen, Woodward, Fergusson,

Music And Theater Education Is Important, If Not More Than...
Art allows us to see a new aspect of the world and enhance our lives so people can truly learn who
they are (Stand for the Arts). It gives us the chance to create our future, share our past and define our

Facts About Arts in Education ). Art can help people psychologically whether they have a mental
disorder like dementia, or not (Friedman 1). The arts allow us to channel our deep emotions onto a

When these deep emotions are being expressed you forget about all of your worries and stress for a
period of time which allows your brain to focus on your art and being calm. The arts don t only help
you get better scores in school and control your thoughts and stress, they also help you become more
aware of the world around you and help you grasp a better understanding of your feelings mean along
with other people s emotions (Greene et al. 2) . The 2006 Pennsylvania state teacher of the year,

Subsequently, a small group of women s rights activists in attendance at the Third National
Conference of Commissions on the Status of Women, held on June 28 30 in 1966 in Washington,

implementation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, feminist activists seized the opportunity to leverage
the momentum and apply it to their cause for women s rights. Indeed, activist Betty Friedan played a
critical role in the formation of NOW and reportedly remarked that it was the suggestion of the
commissioners and attorney for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) that an
organization be formed to advocate on behalf of women similarly to the way civil rights groups were
advocating on behalf of African Americans (NOW, 2011). With this in mind, Freidan invited a group
of like minded conference participants to her hotel room that evening for further discussion about how
to influence action on behalf of women. Additionally, Freidan is credited with writing the acronym N

following day, the original group of twenty women gathered for lunch and recruited eight additional
women who were interested in the idea of creating a formal body to address concerns at the

forward with the worldly issues at stake. However to do this, Soper suggests there needs to be a sense
of self realisation and self recognition that humans are in fact more exceptional than animals to
recognise their [humans] unique responsibilities for creating and correcting the environmental
devastation (pg377)
Humanism of the (___) period viewed science, rationality and reason as the dominant ideology. This
idea took more importance to humans rather than supernatural beings, thus the idea of human
exceptionalism was formed. In The Human in Posthumanism , Soper supports this concept when she
states I submit to defend human exceptionalism, and resist blurring the human animal divide .
However, one could say that her framework for thinking about the exceptionalism of humans is not
based off ideologies of the current time period, rather they are based on her wider concerns for the
planet. She states,
It is not, therefore by the reference to the intrinsic qualities of

Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde
In this book, there exist a battle between good and evil in the main characters where we are bound to
ask ourselves what is superior between good and evil? Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are easily seen as an
allegory of the evil and good that exists in men. The book depicts the struggle with two sides of the
human personality. Since Mr. Hyde seems to be taking over Dr. Jekyll, one could claim that evil is
stronger than good. Nevertheless, Mr. Hyde ends up dead at the end of the story, which strongly shows
the weakness and the failure of evil, so we have to ask ourselves whether good can be separated from
evil. Great people are involved in bad things this is the fact of life, yet this does not make them evil
(Stevenson pp 28 75).
Using the central characters and the key theme of the duplicity of mankind Robert Louis Stevenson
strategically uncovers the broad theme of good and evil in the book. By the use of the character Dr.
Jekyll, the author is able to symbolize good . Mr. Utterson who is a lawyer based in London, also an
old friend of Dr. Jekyll, has the quality of being loyal to his friends and also concerned about Dr.
Jekyll. With this loyalty, he asks him about his pal Mr. Hyde whom he had left his luggage in his will
(Cresser N.P). You know I never approved of it, said the doctor. Mr. Utterson believes that the doctor
bed them by lies possession to a man whom he meet but rather than being annoyed. Dr. Jekyll he
shows concern like a true loyal friend would have, from Mr.

Angela Davis And The Civil Rights Movement
Angela Davis is one of the most influential women when it comes to feminism, race, politics, to just
name a few. She has paved the way for many generations of women to have a voice when they once
wouldn t. It is essential to realize that one can t discuss feminism and black power without discussing
Angela Davis. The reason I chose Angela Davis is because she is a household name that I have always
heard, but had never known much of. I think it s deeply important to understand the impact she s had
on the feminist movement, specifically for women of color.
Angela Yvonne Davis was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 26, 1944 to Sallye Davis and

( Davis, Angela 1944 .) In her early years she was exposed to activism through her mother, Sallye
Davis, she was involved with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People
(NAACP), at a time in which it was very dangerous to do so. Her mother was also heavily involved
with the Communist Party, she was involved in the civil right s movement and was an organizer for
the Southern Negro Congress. Since she grew up around such a heavy influence of Communist ideals,
Davis developed a mindset geared towards equal rights at a very young age. Davis views started
coming through in her academics at a very young age as well, in high school Davis did everything she
could to start to an interracial study group, the group was harassed, and then disbanded by the police.
Eventually Davis would go onto start herself a legacy that is greatly inspired by her mother. She
would join the Black Panther Party after a horrible tragedy.
In 1963, four black girls were killed in a bombing of a church, the bombing took place in her
hometown and it became known as the 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing. This sparked a passion in
Davis for philosophy because she was personally affected by the bombing, she knew two of the people
killed in it. As a result of this tragedy she joined the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee and
then the Black Panther Party.

Compare and Contrast Japanese and Western Imperialism in...
Compare and Contrast Japanese and Western Imperialism in Asia and the Pacific
23 October 2013 at 18:10
The Japanese pursuit for an empire in South East Asia helped changed the balance of world power
away from Europe, by taking their most lucrative colonies. Soon after the Japanese defeat in World
War II, most of the colonies won their independence from their European masters. This essay will be
arguing that despite the vast geographical distance and cultural, racial differences, as well as the
different time periods involved, Japanese and European intentions were very similar, and that these
similarities contributed to the weakening of Imperialism as a doctrine. To do so, this essay will be
examining the reasons for the Japanese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second problem was the Black Death, which was a bacteria that infected rats. As towns became
over crowded and food became scarce, hundreds of millions of rats migrated to the towns. People
lived with the rats in filthy conditions, allowing the fleas that became infected while infesting the rats
to attack people and infect them too. Some historical sources claim up to 2/3 of Europe s population
were affected and half died. Lastly, European powers were constantly locked in power struggles such
as the 100 Years War between England and France. Thousands were killed or crippled over sometimes
only a few kilometres of territory. These problems all contributed to a chronic labour shortage.
Landowners had too many crops and no one to harvest them. Peasants and Serfs tried to take
advantage of the situation by trying to implement new conditions, but landowners refused to lower
quotas, even though there were fewer people to meet them. This led to revolt and some changes were
put in place. Landowners started paying wages for the first time. The way Europe responded to this
was by introducing mercantilism. Mercantilism is an economic doctrine where a country dedicates all
its national resources (eg. Natural, labour, industrial etc) on a national level, unlike within feudalism
where it was on a local level. A step towards mercantilism was the establishment of the absolute
monarchies who took control of their

Reflection In Considering Stones
All our knowledge begins with the senses, proceeds then to the understanding, and ends with reason.
There is nothing higher than reason. There two ways of gaining knowledge which are direct
observation and reflection. Observation is a fundamental way of finding out about the world around
us. The key elements of learning through observation are seeing and listening attentively to
whatsoever one is observing. Reflection is replicating what one sees and listens while observing. It
involves describing everything you can see out of your window. Reflection involves linking a current
experience to previous learning s as reflecting on experiences encourages insight and complex

While the author was walking on the streets of Rome looking at the inscriptures and sculptures,

1. Introduction
Sexual addiction has become rapidly recognized as a significant social problem with similarities better
recognized to drug addiction and alcohol or compulsive gambling. sexual addicts refers to individuals
who engage in persistent, as well as, escalating patterns of sexual behaviour acted out regardless of the
increasingly negative impact to the self and others. To begin with copulation or coitus, sexual
intercourse is the physical union between a man and woman, for reproduction, sexual pleasure or both.
The act involves a high level of physical intimacy and contributes immensely to human bonding. This
is because, sex is associated with emotional and physical pleasure therefore creating a connection
between the people involved. However, some people tend to overdo the act of sex to a point that they
become dependent on it leading to a sexual addiction. This paper aims at discussing sexual addiction,
its causes, effects and characteristics.
II. Literature review
According to Carnes (15) sexual addiction is a clinical condition referred to in the medical spheres as
progressive intimacy disorder. The addiction involves spending long periods preoccupied with sexual
thoughts and behaviors all geared towards achieving a desired sexual effect. In the United States
alone, more than thirty million people are in the category of those who suffer from the condition.

Analysis Of The Film Whale Riders
In the Film Whale Riders, the director Niki Caro, does an excellent job in developing critical themes
combining spiritual and religious traditions resonating with the audience. The compelling themes
demonstrated in the movie such as leadership, change of role in women, connection to nature,
traditions and change are all eloquently presented as the plot unfolds. As a young woman myself, I can
feel empathy towards the main protagonist, Pai, as she puts maximum effort in convincing her
grandfather Koro, that she can be the families next whale rider.
As the movie begins, the tone of Pai s monologue where she describes how her family awaits the birth
of the first born boy who would become chief, moderately sets the the mood for the rest of the film.
Pai, states that there was no gladness was she was born; this is because both her mother and brother [
who was suppose to be the next leader] died. The theme of leadership is presented as Koro searches
for a new Maori leader. As Pai s dad, Porourangi, denies leadership due to the death of his wife, Koro
searches for leadership elsewhere; overlooking Pai s ability to do so because of her sex. Pai displays
leadership in wanting to aid her community in being the next whale rider by attempting to attend her
grandfather schooling and learning Mau raku (stick fighting) from her uncle whom she privately
learns from.
As Pai s conquest to become leader progress, she unravels the theme of role changing. An interesting
factor that I noticed

Jupiter s 3 Year Research Paper
Have you ever considered the falsehood of some of the information that you ve been fed? Just think
about it. It seems that every discovery is made by a curious European scientist . For example, Galileo
Galilei is considered to have discovered Jupiter s four moons in 1610, and the moons have even been
named Galilean Moons , but Africans, the Dogon people to be exact, actually discovered Jupiter s four
moons over 60,000 years ago. This is just one of many example of many of African discoveries that
they were not credited for along with further findings in astronomy, weapons, metallurgy, and tools,
and mathematics. For starters, astronomy has been dated back to as early as 3200 BC in Mali, West
Africa, which, by the way, is the earliest time dated for the field. The Dogon people of Mali were able
to chart the movement of the sun, recognize constellations, and chart the cycle of the moon. While the
Mayans created the first calendar in 3114 BC, Africans created the calendar that we currently use
today. Mayans used a two calendar system that could not predict days more than 52 days ahead, and it
divided a 365 day calendar into 18 twenty day months. The Africans, however, created the African

T.S. Eliot
How has Eliot used both conventional and Modernist poetic techniques to represent his Modernist
concerns?
The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock and Preludes expresses Eliot s Modernist concerns about the lack
of morals and values in modern society through the use of personas within the urban landscape and the
urban society. Modern man s lifestyle of repetition of trivial tasks and the lack of meaningful things in
life is represented and emphasised through the use of alliteration, metaphor, fragmentation and word
choice.
The urban landscape is employed by Eliot in Preludes to demonstrate the isolated desertion of a
modern city. The use of repetition in the showers beat on broken blinds emphasises the polluted,
squalid environment and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eliot expresses his Modernist concern of the subtle, harmful nature of the urban landscape through
repetition and the metaphor of the yellow fog that rubs its back upon the window panes . The fog is
compared to a stray cat, crafting and cunning, attempting to get into the house, the intrusive nature of
pollution is emphasised by this. Prufrock is overwhelmed by the urban environment and society and
attempts to escape through his fantasy, we have lingered in the chambers of the sea but the modern
landscape proves inescapable and Prufrock is swallowed by the demands and expectations of society,
till human voices wake us and we drown.
The modern society is also used by Eliot to express his Modernist concerns of the lack of meaning and
values in life, the superficiality of society and the lack of individuality of the people. In Preludes,
fragmentation is used to demonstrate the broken views of the people of modern society who can no
longer see themselves in a wholistic way. Fragmentation is shown through enjambment to create
broken stanzas to disorientate readers, emphasising the confusions of society. Eliot intentionally refers
to the people of the city only as eyes and feet and refers to the people collectively, one thinks of all the
hand that are raising dingy shades in a thousand furnished rooms and the people with all its muddy
feet that press to early coffee

Why Jefferson Davis Won The Civil War
On April 2nd, Jefferson Davis, Southern President , fled his home and the Confederate capitol,
Richmond, Virginia after burning important documents. The fire spread accidentally from the
documents to the town, destroying many blocks of the city (See map on right). Davis had a train

These health centers are more interested in mid life crisis patients than in the seemingly incurable

Wade Black, of Defining the Homeless and the Mentally Ill , says :
If more of us understood how they struggle to overcome their illness, we would seek better ways to

Clinics need to be established specializing in only the homeless with a staff that is more considerate to
the fact that the patients of this nature share a lack of judgement and tend to assume that they are okay

My Trip To The Great Smoky Mountains
It was the middle of the day, but the sky was a darker blue than usual and there were a few stars out. It
was a bit chilly despite being a clear day in August. The mountains I saw ahead were too dark to be
distinguishable from one another. For that brief minute, the sun had disappeared. Seeing the total solar
eclipse was the best experience of my summer and one of the best experiences of my life. My family
and I went to go see it in Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee. I had been really
excited for this moment because of how long I d been anticipating it. Plus I d been to the Great Smoky
Mountains before and I really enjoyed being there, so I was looking forward to going back.
A great aspect about this day was that I was on Clingman s Dome, the highest mountain in the park,
and it was one of the best places to see the eclipse because there was a beautiful view of the park from
up there and the eclipse was not blocked out by clouds, unlike other places along the path of totality.
My family purchased tickets ahead of time to get up there because it was going to be closed off on the
day of the eclipse to prevent it from being too crowded. We arrived at the parking lot early where they
were loading up the coach buses to go up the mountain and we made it on the first bus and there we
received our solar glasses. The glasses felt like cheap paper glasses, but they had a solar filter in them
that allowed me to look at the sun without hurting my eyes. We were lucky to have these glasses
because when the eclipse was coming near, solar glasses were in very high demand and a lot of people
had trouble getting them.
The ride up to the mountain took about twenty minutes and it was kind of scary because of how high
we were, but I saw some amazing scenery of the Smokies while going up so it wasn t too bad. Once
the bus reached the top of the mountain, I saw the landscape of mountains stretched out ahead as far as
the eye could see. While up on the mountain, people working for NASA had activities going on and
were even handing out solar glasses. Everyone in my family grabbed some NASA solar glasses
because they might be more reliable than the glasses we were given previously and they would make a
neat souvenir.

Memory Retention Of The Presentation Information And Those...
We found that there was no significant difference between the memory scores of those who thought
they had to teach the information and those who were told nothing. Yet, a consistent trend was found
with both dependent variables. Although the trend does not fall within the confidence band, it can be
considered a consistent trend because it is constant for all four different conditions. Refer to Figure 2,
the memory scores were consistently lower when white noise was present, regardless of which
condition the participants were in. In addition, the anxiety levels were slightly higher when white
noise was present regardless of active or passive condition, refer to Figure 3. Our null hypothesis
states that there will be no significant difference in memory retention of the presentation information
between those who are told they must teach the presentation right after and those who are not told
anything, and there will be no difference in anxiety levels when noise is introduced into the classroom.
However, our study tested the hypothesis that the potential of having to speak publicly would enhance
memory retention. Yet, our results proved otherwise.
Opposite to what we hypothesized, the memory for all four groups remained relatively consistent with
one another with respect to the active and passive conditions. Anxiety did not have a major impact in
boosting memory performance, even when white noise was in the background. We found that from the

To start, Jaws uses rough grained film stock to give high contrasts between the whites and the blacks.
This technique is useful for this film because of the setting it takes place in. This type of film stock
was successful because of the beach environment that had to be conveyed through the screen. The
cinematography of the film ties all the aspects of the movie together flawlessly. Many different camera
angles are used during the film including objective and subjective camera angles. Musical
accompaniments in Jaws are written to suit the different events that take place in the film. Included in
the film is diegetic and non diegetic sounds for the purpose of improving the reality of the film. This is
exhibited as the suspenseful music is played whenever the shark begins to appear. The lighting in the
film is mostly natural. This makes filming a bit more difficult. However, the cinematographer still
manages to film a movie of astounding visual quality for the day and age the film was released in. In
addition, the film s main characters are round and are dynamic adding further complexity. Therefore,
the film is pieced together in a way that fits the look, feel, and sound of the film together

  • 3. Agriculture in the Himalayas of Nepal Essay Agriculture in the Himalayas of Nepal According to some estimates, as much as 90% of Nepal s population relies on agriculture for its sustenance.[1] The significant climactic variations between Nepal s sub tropical Terai region, hills region, and Himalayan mountain region lead to a variety of different agricultural models. Within the northern Himalayan region, additional variations in agricultural style exist because of changes in the qualities of available soil and quantities of moisture at different altitudes. Some researchers remark that it is even possible to anticipate the ethnicity of a group in a rural Himalayan village by glancing at an altimeter, as the traditional lifestyles maintained by the Nepali speaking caste Hindus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As they rely heavily on their crops to sustain themselves, they tend to remain in areas where agriculture can continue throughout the year. In midland mountainous regions from 2,500 to 3,200 meters above sea level, sub Tibetan groups (or groups of Tibetan ethnicity and culture) grow one crop of wheat or barley per winter and one crop of buckwheat during the summer. The climate in this region is cool and dry, and the dry field agriculture used requires less labor than rice cultivation. This allows them to raise cattle, water buffalo and goats to supplement their diet.[4]At even higher altitudes, where low levels of moisture permit only a single crop of wheat or barley, yak, which are well suited for high altitudes, become a major component of the lifestyle.[5] In the northern areas of Nepal, Tibetan pastoralists travel to altitudes reaching up to 5,200 meters as they seek out pasture for their animals during the summer monsoon season, although few permanent habitations can be found above 4,000 meters. Where possible, these groups make up for shortages in grain and other goods by trading wool, butter, meat, and draught animals. They may also hunt, fish, and forage for wild plants, although habitat destruction from deforestation has caused a decline in the availability of game and fish resources in much of Nepal, making it increasingly difficult to rely on these assets for food.[6] Unlike many third world countries, no strong landowning ... Harriet was a brave young girl who had escaped slavery at a young age and wanted to help others get out of that life just as she did, and that s what I am going to be telling you today. At first, In my research I couldn t find any evidence on which exact day harriet was born but i could find that she was born around 1820 s near Dorchester County on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, near the town of Cambridge (graceproducts.com). Harriet was given the name Araminta Ross later that year she had taken on her mother s name of Harriet. When she had turned six she had been taken ten miles to live with James Cook. His wife who was a weaver was to teach her the trade of weaving. Cook had her work on the trapline to help catch wild animals. He had to work the lines while she was ill with the measles, and catching cold from wading in the water in the condition, she grew very sick. I had reasoned this out in my mind; there was one of two things I had a right to, liberty, or death; if I could not have one, I would have the other; for no man should take me alive; I should fight for my liberty as long as my strength lasted, and when the time came for me to go, the Lord would let them take me. But if the temperature is gradually brought to a boiling point, the frog will stay and be cooked alive. The same principle might be applied to societal invasion today. Why destroy a nation or a culture in one massive attack? Would the results of such a bold move outweigh its costs? Would opposition to such a movement not be swift and without mercy? Or, rather, why not slowly permeate a culture from the inside out, cranking up tensions ever so slightly, just enough to assert authority, but not enough to set off too many warning bells. Seventy percent of women in the United States are a size 14 or above, and that s technically plus size, she told Refinery29. Findings in two general aggression model (GAM) studies that complement cognitive frameworks, both monitored increases in physical arousal as potential determinants for short term violent behavior. Again, positive correlations were found following exposure to media violence.(Bushman Anderson, 2001; Thomas, Horton, Lippincott, Drabman, 1977). Environmental factors A range of studies assert that causes of violent behavior are complex at the level of environmental influence and compare other learning, modelling and disinhibiting factors. This is an area where opposition to the hypothesis is more common. Two longitudinal studies assessing levels of violence pre and post the introduction of television found a positive correlation, however ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Review of Literature One of the articles that was reviewed to determine if tap water would be appropriate for wound cleansing was a systematic review by Fernandez and Griffiths (2007). In this study, various randomized and quasi randomized controlled trials comparing the effects of water with other solutions for wound cleansing were assessed. Of the nine trials used in this study, five trials were identified that compared the rates of infection in wounds cleansed with water or normal saline (Fernandez amp; Griffiths, 2007). These trials involved people of all ages, with a wound of any etiology, in different settings including hospitals, communities, nursing homes, general practice, and wound clinics. The trials also included an objective measure of wound infection, such as bacterial counts, wound cultures, or wound biopsy (Fernandez amp; Griffiths, 2007). After data extraction and analysis of the trials, the authors concluded that there was no statistical significance between cleansing with tap water and normal saline (Fernandez amp; Griffiths, 2007). However, the authors also acknowledged two major flaws in this review, including the lack of consistency in the criteria and validated tools of measurement used to assess wound infection, as well as insufficient detail in reporting the method used for ... • 14. The True Meaning Of Reading Is Not A Disinterested... For many years authorial intention was recognised as the only true meaning of a text. A philosopher in the twentieth century, Edmund Hursell, recognised the power of consciousness and the phenomenal reality of an appearance which defers questions about an ultimate end. Phenomenology notes an objects existence, but achieves meaning and finds reality through an active conscious and awareness which registers the object, suspending all presuppositions, inferences, or judgements. A text, when criticised phenomenologically, is seen in aesthetic and affective aspects, existing only in the reader. Scholar Stanley Fish extended these ideas into what is now called Reader Response Criticism, or R RC discussing the influence the reader has on the interpretation, making reading an active activity (Cowgill 5). This essay will discuss the idea that reading is not a disinterested activity by applying new critic ideals to enforce upon the notion that meaning is drawn from the readers own interpretations, shaped by their active engagement with the text.. More recently, in 2003, Lisa Zunshine further developed the importance of the reader in textual meaning by drawing from cognitive psychology in her article Theory of the Mind . Zunshine suggests that such an activity is the basis for the very existence of the novel as we know it; the reason we read fiction is because it exercises our mind reading ability (Polvinen). Readers become active participants in the creation of the work through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The Factors Of Teenage Pregnancy Teenage pregnancy is normally identified as a deprived life choice, for example, tasks of teenage parenting have long term impact on the mental health of the mother and children (Statistics New Zealand, 2003). It is important to identify the socioeconomic factors of teenage pregnancy to lower the chances of mental health problems in young mothers. In this paper the aim is to analyse the main socioeconomic factors of teenage pregnancy and discuss how it affects the mental health of an adolescent mother in New Zealand. This essay will commence by identifying how a lack of education is considered as a socioeconomic factor associated with teenage pregnancy, followed by the second theme which will consist of economic circumstances such as, parental unemployment and welfare dependency. Lastly, this essay will discuss how deficiency of support from family and friends leads to unstable relationships, which has a huge impact on a teenage mother s mental health. A lack of education is one of the main socioeconomic factors which impact the mental health of an adolescent mother. Studies show a number of negative outcomes that are linked with dropping out of school at an early age. For example, youth that tends to gain fewer educational qualifications are more likely to be in unstable relationships resulting in a lack of knowledge regarding contraceptive use which leaves them to deal with economic circumstances (Breheny Stephens, 2008; Friesen, Woodward, Fergusson, Horwood, ... Recognizing the public interest in the social movement which led to the implementation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, feminist activists seized the opportunity to leverage the momentum and apply it to their cause for women s rights. Indeed, activist Betty Friedan played a critical role in the formation of NOW and reportedly remarked that it was the suggestion of the commissioners and attorney for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) that an organization be formed to advocate on behalf of women similarly to the way civil rights groups were advocating on behalf of African Americans (NOW, 2011). With this in mind, Freidan invited a group of like minded conference participants to her hotel room that evening for further discussion about how to influence action on behalf of women. In this text, there is a strong concern for the depletion of the current ecology and the rise mass consumption, Soper suggests this is due to our current ideologies of what it means to live a rich lifestyle. The posthumanist notion of a human animal blurring is viewed in this text as a change that needs to be resisted in order to move forward with the worldly issues at stake. • 22. Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde In this book, there exist a battle between good and evil in the main characters where we are bound to ask ourselves what is superior between good and evil? Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are easily seen as an allegory of the evil and good that exists in men. The book depicts the struggle with two sides of the human personality. Since Mr. Hyde seems to be taking over Dr. Jekyll, one could claim that evil is stronger than good. Nevertheless, Mr. Hyde ends up dead at the end of the story, which strongly shows the weakness and the failure of evil, so we have to ask ourselves whether good can be separated from evil. Great people are involved in bad things this is the fact of life, yet this does not make them evil (Stevenson pp 28 75). Using the central characters and the key theme of the duplicity of mankind Robert Louis Stevenson strategically uncovers the broad theme of good and evil in the book. By the use of the character Dr. Jekyll, the author is able to symbolize good . Mr. Utterson who is a lawyer based in London, also an old friend of Dr. Jekyll, has the quality of being loyal to his friends and also concerned about Dr. Jekyll. Some historical sources claim up to 2/3 of Europe s population were affected and half died. Lastly, European powers were constantly locked in power struggles such as the 100 Years War between England and France. Thousands were killed or crippled over sometimes only a few kilometres of territory. These problems all contributed to a chronic labour shortage. Peasants and Serfs tried to take advantage of the situation by trying to implement new conditions, but landowners refused to lower quotas, even though there were fewer people to meet them. This led to revolt and some changes were put in place. Landowners started paying wages for the first time. The way Europe responded to this was by introducing mercantilism. The compelling themes demonstrated in the movie such as leadership, change of role in women, connection to nature, traditions and change are all eloquently presented as the plot unfolds. As a young woman myself, I can feel empathy towards the main protagonist, Pai, as she puts maximum effort in convincing her grandfather Koro, that she can be the families next whale rider. As the movie begins, the tone of Pai s monologue where she describes how her family awaits the birth of the first born boy who would become chief, moderately sets the the mood for the rest of the film. Pai, states that there was no gladness was she was born; this is because both her mother and brother [ who was suppose to be the next leader] died. The theme of leadership is presented as Koro searches for a new Maori leader. As Pai s dad, Porourangi, denies leadership due to the death of his wife, Koro searches for leadership elsewhere; overlooking Pai s ability to do so because of her sex. Pai displays leadership in wanting to aid her community in being the next whale rider by attempting to attend her grandfather schooling and learning Mau raku (stick fighting) from her uncle whom she privately learns from. Davis previously sent his family away to safety, showing he might have assumed this would happen. However, he didn t plan for the fire of the documents to spread to the town. With Richmond burning, the Confederate leader in hiding, and the main Southern general failing in many of the past battles, the South is in pieces, and it is no surprise the Union won this war. Southern leaders, including Davis will most likely be charged with treason but what will be done with Southern supporters is unknown at this point. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was president of the Confederacy for four years out of his six year term. His first major command as president was to bomb Fort Sumter when he saw Union ships coming to supply the fort. This is recognized as the start of the war, so the Civil War was started by Jefferson Davis. When General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant, Davis disagreed. He wanted the war to go on long enough for the Union to get tired of it. We would not want to pay for it any longer, not want any more casualties and eventually surrender. • 34. Dogma Debate I ve joined the popular (and sometimes funny) weekly radio show/podcast Dogma Debate w/David Smalley. It s a show where we explore issues from religion, race, politics, etc., to current events. Not much is off limits. For the most part, the reception s been positive. Mutually exploring ideas in the pursuit of growth is a win for me. Quite frankly, I am a different voice from what many listeners are used to (read that as Person of Color). Some of my views take listeners aback. I violate their beliefs, making them quite uncomfortable, which subjects me to some interesting migro aggressions when I dampen their echo chambers. • 36. homelessness Essay All over America, there are people wandering the streets without a home. These individuals are seen as a crowd, a separate collective existence. They are called the homeless, as if that defines who they are, but we too often neglect to add the unspoken word in that title: people. It seems today that the more fortunate citizens of America who have a roof over their heads have forgotten their innate responsibility to watch over those in this world whom are incapable of caring for themselves. Tragically, thirty to fifty percent of the homeless have severe mental illnesses (Torrey 1). These individuals live life in such a way that few people in this world could possibly even begin to compare their hardships. The fact that they survive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Currently, mental hospitals are too eager to place their homeless patients in community health centers. These health centers are more interested in mid life crisis patients than in the seemingly incurable schizophrenics. These mental patients find it very easy to wander their way back on to the streets. Wade Black, of Defining the Homeless and the Mentally Ill , says : If more of us understood how they struggle to overcome their illness, we would seek better ways to assist them rather than to force them out of our communities...if we can establish humane housing that includes the support services necessary to make the transition back to ordinary living, the homeless population would drop dramatically (Black 1). Clinics need to be established specializing in only the homeless with a staff that is more considerate to the fact that the patients of this nature share a lack of judgement and tend to assume that they are okay , when they are not. When these patients reach the streets, they are without their medications. An individual with an untreated mental disability can be a threat to others as well as themselves. Each year, mentally ill people who are not receiving treatment manage to kill about one thousand people in the United States. These statistics are a result of the emptying of our public psychiatric hospitals (Torrey ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. My Trip To The Great Smoky Mountains It was the middle of the day, but the sky was a darker blue than usual and there were a few stars out. It was a bit chilly despite being a clear day in August. The mountains I saw ahead were too dark to be distinguishable from one another. For that brief minute, the sun had disappeared. Seeing the total solar eclipse was the best experience of my summer and one of the best experiences of my life. My family and I went to go see it in Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee. I had been really excited for this moment because of how long I d been anticipating it. Plus I d been to the Great Smoky Mountains before and I really enjoyed being there, so I was looking forward to going back. A great aspect about this day was that I was on Clingman s Dome, the highest mountain in the park, and it was one of the best places to see the eclipse because there was a beautiful view of the park from up there and the eclipse was not blocked out by clouds, unlike other places along the path of totality. My family purchased tickets ahead of time to get up there because it was going to be closed off on the day of the eclipse to prevent it from being too crowded. We arrived at the parking lot early where they were loading up the coach buses to go up the mountain and we made it on the first bus and there we received our solar glasses. The glasses felt like cheap paper glasses, but they had a solar filter in them that allowed me to look at the sun without hurting my eyes. We were lucky to have these glasses because when the eclipse was coming near, solar glasses were in very high demand and a lot of people had trouble getting them. The ride up to the mountain took about twenty minutes and it was kind of scary because of how high we were, but I saw some amazing scenery of the Smokies while going up so it wasn t too bad. Once the bus reached the top of the mountain, I saw the landscape of mountains stretched out ahead as far as the eye could see. While up on the mountain, people working for NASA had activities going on and were even handing out solar glasses. Everyone in my family grabbed some NASA solar glasses because they might be more reliable than the glasses we were given previously and they would make a neat souvenir. ... • 38. Memory Retention Of The Presentation Information And Those... We found that there was no significant difference between the memory scores of those who thought they had to teach the information and those who were told nothing. Yet, a consistent trend was found with both dependent variables. Although the trend does not fall within the confidence band, it can be considered a consistent trend because it is constant for all four different conditions. Refer to Figure 2, the memory scores were consistently lower when white noise was present, regardless of which condition the participants were in. In addition, the anxiety levels were slightly higher when white noise was present regardless of active or passive condition, refer to Figure 3. Our null hypothesis states that there will be no significant difference in memory retention of the presentation information between those who are told they must teach the presentation right after and those who are not told anything, and there will be no difference in anxiety levels when noise is introduced into the classroom. However, our study tested the hypothesis that the potential of having to speak publicly would enhance memory retention. Yet, our results proved otherwise. Opposite to what we hypothesized, the memory for all four groups remained relatively consistent with one another with respect to the active and passive conditions. Anxiety did not have a major impact in boosting memory performance, even when white noise was in the background. We found that from the perspective of the student, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Having an African American woman take the role of a powerful, smart, decision maker exemplifies the idea that the media can move past cultural ideologies of gender stereotypes such that women who act firmly are bitches.
