Guantanamo Troopers Essay
For most service members, the difficulties of deployments can include the operational tempo,
uncertainty of the next mission, the fear of the unknown or the constant changes and frustrations of
operational security. While we all deal with those obstacles, most Joint Task Force Guantanamo
Troopers will say the biggest adjustment to deal with is being away from family members. One
tool available to Troopers is the United Through ReadingProgram, which helps Troopers stay
connected with family members through deployments. UTR gives service members the
opportunity to be video recorded reading books to their loved ones back home. United Through
Reading is a way to put a voice back home, said U.S. Army Capt. Ronnie Dettmer, a chaplain
assigned to the JTF. I ve heard more family members say they watch it every single night. UTR is a

The UTR program provides most of the resources to make the connection with loved ones back
home. After completing a recording of your book, you will receive a copy of that book along
with a DVD to mail home to your loved ones. For Troopers without kids, UTR is still a great
opportunity to send messages and well wishes to significant others, friends and parents. When
recording a video, Troopers are afforded the opportunity to bring props, instruments or anything
sentimental with them as they record their message. For those interested in participating in the
program, you can contact the chaplain s office at x2218 or x2571 to get started. Normal hours are
Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 pm and walk ins are welcome. For those who work
during those hours, the chaplain staff is willing to come in after hours or weekends to

The Illegal Arson Scam Case Study
CASE CLOSED: The Illegal Arson Scam Two students in the Truman school had unraveled the
secret illegal scam of the Red Diamond Energy Corporation (RDEC). All this secret illegal scam
started on the day Drake McBride had first joined and became the principal of the Red Diamond
Energy Corporation. The first thing Mr. McBride did was hiring Jimmy Lee Bayliss as his
project manager. Unfortunately, Section 21 does not have a lot of oil. So, Mr. McBride says to
Mr. Bayliss that, All we ve got to do is find some oil, any oil and Uncle Sam will pay us a fortune
not to pump it. Isn t it that the danged thing you ve ever heard of? Then Mr. Bayliss starts talking

Investigation by a detective, Jason Marshall who identifies Mr. Bayliss on film. The government

Norwegian Whaling Essay
Norwegian Whaling
Modern commercial whaling is continuously being over exploited as whaling companies strive to
maximize their profits despite international protest and a ban by the International Commission.
Many various species of whales have been extinct, and the relatively few whales that remain are
extremely vulnerable, and the factors that led to their over exploitation in the past have not
changed. Norway, one of the several countries involved in illegal whaling, has again refused to
accept the international moratorium on whaling and has announced that its catch quotas for whales
have risen. In 1995 Norwegian whales caught 217 whales out of a quota of 232. In 1996 the quota
was 425. Now, on May 27, 1997 the whaling season will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Several justifications that Norway and Japan have for the endless massacre of these innocent
whales are: it is a long established Norwegian tradition of whaling, Japan hunts whales under
scientific research , and Both countries argue that minke whales are not endangered and that an
uncontrolled population of the whales would threaten valuable fish stocks.
However, none of this arguments use scientific evidence to justify the killings of these whales.
In fact the cloak of tradition in Norway is being used to disguise the fact that the price of whale
meat is $290 a kilogram, which is a very lucrative profit. Japan s excuse for scientific research is a
poor one, considering money is made when the whale meat is sold to restaurants and wholesalers
after the so called scientific research is completed. In addition, the relationship between fish stocks
and whales need not be questioned. The fishery is a commercial industry, not a subsistence way of
life. Minke whales are not participating in a commercial industry.
The unreasonable justifications for murder cannot be accepted by any decent human being because
whales are mammals, not fish, but they have been historically treated as fish by the commercial
whaling industry. A great number of fish species reproduce by laying an enormous quantity of eggs
into the sea for fertilization by males. Even though only a small percentage

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower Belonging
(w. 129)
The Perks of being a Wallflower, (Chbosky, 2012) uses classical narration as a canonical based
framework of events which adheres to the conventions of classical narration. Screen Media (2009)
outlines that canonical style of narration, is achieved by a three part structure. This organisation is
presented throughout the film, as viewers are introduced to the main character Charlie, (Logan
Lerman) and his mental health issues. This introduction foreshadows the premise of the plot and
overall motif creating a consistent theme where the middle section features a chain of events that
Charlie must overcome. A state of balance is achieved at the end of the movie acting as a form of
conclusion. Throughout this classical style of narrative viewers see established relationships between
characters, within a classical narration framework.

Due to the nature of this genre identity, a socio cultural approach provides a straight forward way
of outlining both inter textual and extra textual techniques. This form of analysis provides
emphasis on texts that are a cultural expression of socially prevalent ideas and dilemmas, (Stadler
and McWilliam, 2009 p. 232). Elements of society are presented within the text as audiences are
exposed to homophobic antics targeted at Patrick (Ezra Miller). This reflective technique
foreshadows the genre of coming of age, as Patrick faces obstacles he must overcome. Drama is
showcased within the film as the melodramatic tendencies of high school based issues become
intertwined foreshadowing a journey in which the main characters must

The Immigration And Naturalization Service
Thousands of illegal immigrants smuggle themselves across the United States border each day.
The Immigration and Naturalization Service, or the INS, concluded that the United States is
currently a place to call home for a population of approximately twelve million illegal immigrants
(Hayes 16). An American who has never been to Mexico, for example, may wonder why these
people risk their lives to live in the United States. With the jobs, education, welfare, and
unemployment compensation the American government has to offer, the United States appears as
a lifeboat for these poor and uneducated immigrants (Hayes 16). The American dream is what all
citizens of the United States strive to achieve. Everyone wants to get an education, a... Show more

Employers are able to make money because production is fast and cheap for them. The Pew
Hispanic Center concluded in 2001 classified an estimated 5.3 million workers in the U.S. as
unauthorized workers in the labor force. These jobs include 700,000 restaurant workers, 250,000
household workers, and 620,000 construction workers (Murphy). This is a whole lot of cheap
labor, and without it the U.S. would suffer. If 620,000 construction workers were gone, home
improvement projects across the nation would quickly be hard to find. With a large number of
these immigrants also earning wages working on farms, Americans would find much of their
produce rotting in fields due to the lack of workers (Murphy 2). The positive effect of these
immigrants on the nation s labor force is well supported by Americans; however, the opinion of
those rejecting these workers is accepted and taken into account as well. The main argument of
Americans rejecting the idea of immigration is supported by the rising unemployment rate in
America. There are hundreds of American natives who are unemployed. Harvard sociologist,
Christopher Jencks, states, The reason that Americans will not take jobs washing dishes, cleaning
hotel rooms, mowing lawns, and picking fruit is because immigrant labor has driven the wages
down (Taylor). Not only are the wages being driven down, but the working conditions as well.
Without immigrants working it will open opportunities for low skilled

Laurryn Hill Tell Him Analysis
The idea of love in relationships has become more popularized throughout the decades. Though the
term love is ambiguous and can vary from person to person, Sternberg s Triangular Theory of Love
depicts various forms of love based on passion, intimacy, and commitment alone and intersecting to
form an intermediate form of love. To illustrate, in the song Tell Him by Lauryn Hill, a combination
of intimacy and commitment creates companionate love seen between Hill and God.
Companionate love is defined as the affection and tenderness we feel for those with whom our lives
are deeply intertwined (Hatfield and Rapson, 1993). Companionate love can be seen in non couple
relationships as it excludes passion (infatuation) and exemplifies a relationship built on deep
affection and connectedness. Looking at companionate love in its components, intimacy and
commitment can range on the degree of intensity. Intimacy,... Show more content on

The chorus repeating tell him I need him, tell him I love him portrays the dependency on God
Hill has; as she continues on in the song using the same verse multiple times, this establishes an
emphasis on long term commitment to God and the degree of intimacy Hill has with God.
Words/phrases like need and tell him suggests open and honest relationship that is built on trust.
Throughout the song, references to biblical verses like the verse Now I may have faith to make
mountains fall, but if I lack love, then I am nothin at all shows Hill s belief that through her faith
in God, in all things she can be successful; this again parallels with companionate love. The love
for God by Hill displayed in the song is finished off with the verse to the love that was shown when
our lives were spared and tell him then falling into the chorus ending the

Bismarck s Influence On The German Empire Essay
Section 2. Investigation
Bismarck, to many historians, was known for his ability to manipulate the Prussian government,
and alliances with other nations to achieve his goal to create the German Empire with the Prussian
Kaiser as its leader. Through his idea of Realpolitik, to do whatever deemed necessary to reach a
goal, Bismarck manipulated the different parts of the Prussian government and the Foreign policy
to unite the German States under the leadership of Prussia s Kaiser. The problem with Bismarck
using Realpolitik is that he could have used illegal methods or methods that exceeded his authority
as Prime Minister. Bismarck used methods that exceeded his given authority as Prime Minister,
from 1862 1871, to a small extent. The Kaiser had given Bismarck power that exceeded that
normally given to a Prime Minister, but through the expansion of powers of Prime Minister before
he entered office, many of Bismarck s actions were found to be within his authority.
Bismarck followed his policy of Realpolitik to no ends, willing to exceed his given authority as
Prime Minister. One of the illegal actions that Bismarck executed was for the Prussian military
budget. When Bismarck first gained the title of Prime Minister, his first task was to pass the
military budget that the Kaiser requested in the 1862 budget. The Reichstag had power over
making decisions over foreign, and federal policies, laws, and the military itself. The Parliament,
although not given the sole power for

What Was The Evolution Of Rugby
Rugby is a very popular sport in England that is best known to have been born in 1873, when
William Webb Ellis, with fine disregard for the rules of soccer, considering the fact that soccer
rules hadn t even really taken serious yet anyways, was playing soccer at rugby school where he
attended, when he took off with the ball in his hands, thus originating the distinctive feature of the
Rugby Game. This is also the explanation of why the Rugby world is called the William Webb Ellis
Trophy.
However, Rugby originated from various earlier ballgames similar to itself, before it s time .It
developed slowly over time throughout the fifth century of our common era due to the other games

Stoppages for injury or to allow the referee to take disciplinary action do not count as part of the
playing time, so that the elapsed time is usually longer than 80 minutes. The referee is responsible
for keeping time, even when as in many professional tournaments he is assisted by an official
timekeeper. If time expires while the ball is in play, the game continues until the ball is dead , and
only then will the referee blow the whistle to signal half time or full time; but if the referee awards
a penalty or free kick, the game continues.
In the knockout stages of rugby competitions, most notably the Rugby world cup, two extra time
periods of 10 minutes periods are played (with an interval of 5 minutes in between) if the game
is tied after full time. If scores are level after 100 minutes then the rules call for 20 minutes of

a kicking competition is used to determine the winner. However, no match in the history of the

How American Idiot impacted our culture
September 20, 2004 is when a song named, American idiot came out by a band named Green day,
impacting our culture by explaining how the youth are being conformists, The song also talks
about how the media owns the people, how people are idiots for listening to what is being fed to
them, and finally the division of the united states of America over political issues. This song was
made to point out how America is with the technology that is connected with the media such as cell
phones and television making the media influence to society easier; another point would be how
the political issues such as war on terrorism this is being evoked throughout this song, and the final
topic being brought up by Green Day is paranoia how America is paranoia after the terrorist attack
back in Two thousand and one. These are the reasons how American Idiot impacted our culture

The Russian Government Undermines Civil Rights

CLAIM: The Russian Government Undermines Civil Rights.
The administration of President Vladimir Putin has chosen to abridge civil liberties in Russia and
demolish the growing power of nongovernmental democratic institutions. The government has
embarked on a strategy crush any opposing viewpoints and reinforce its own dominance. In July
2012, Vladimir Putin went into action to suppress the basic human rights of Russians. The three
fundamental freedoms of assembly, association and speech were treated to fierce legal restriction.
The Government chose to ignore parliamentary procedures and numerous protests; many experts
believe, that the new laws governing demonstrations, NGOs [non governmental organisations], the
libel and the legal regulation of the Internet are proof that these three rights have not only been
restricted, but effectively terminated.
In the case of the homophobic laws, the government s motives are clear: to mobilise the support of
the most conservative section of Russian society. This primitive law that bans the so called
promotion of homosexuality , which openly institutes legal discrimination based on sexual identity.
In Russia there is severe criticism of homosexuality. Homosexuals are publicly abused with the
tormentors facing no legal punishment. LGBT [Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender] people

The Sadness of Poverty in Frank McCourt s Angela s Ashes
It is not the rich man you should properly call happy, but him who knows how to use with wisdom
the blessings of the gods, to endure hard poverty, and who fears dishonor worse than death, and is
not afraid to die for cherished friends or fatherland.
In the novel Angela s Ashes, (1996) by Frank McCourt, a life of povertyis the only life this family
knows. It is a memoir about a young boy born in New York City. Frank, born ten months prior to his
brother Malachy, was raised in a small apartment with his parents, Angela and Malachy McCourt.

Soon after that, she had a little girl named Margaret. Margaret lived for a month and then she
died. That was the only month that Malachy never drank the whole paycheck and he never once
came home late singing any songs. Angela loved her little girl more than anything, especially
because of the way it reformed Malachy. After Margaret died, they moved to Ireland, hoping to get
away from the poor streets of New York and back to their families.
They found a home in Limerick, if you could call it a home. It was a room with a fireplace, a
table, three chairs and a big bed. With a family of six, it was a tight fit, but after nights on boats
and trains, it was heaven. Then came the fleas, which fed upon their slender bodies night after night.
Frank McCourt has a subtle yet striking way of telling his story like it was; miserable. The way
he described how little food they had and how close their family came to being homeless is
amazing. When telling about the twins deaths he states it so simply, I know Oliver is dead and
Malachy knows Oliver is dead but Eugene is too small to know anything. When he wakes in the
morning he says, Ollie, Ollie, and toddles around the room looking under beds. . . . Dad says
Eugene is lucky to have brothers like Malachy and me because we help him forget and soon, with
God s help, he ll have no memory of Oliver at all. He died anyway. Six months after Oliver went. . .

Subjectivity In Doctor Moreau s The Island Of Doctor Moreau
In The Island of Doctor Moreau, one of the important characters is Moreau, a vivisectionist who has
fled the exposure of his experiments to a remote island with the aim of pursuing his focus on
research in the effort to perfect the Beast Folk . Moreau s claim is that the aim of his experiments
and interactions with the beasts is to raise them into human creatures, buthis true purpose is to
preserve the low status and nature of the beasts by denying any human attributes that are inherent in
the animals. Moreau s focus is on prohibiting the non human animals from having and
demonstrating emotions and attributes that are traditionally anthropocentric (human). Moreau does
not allow the non human animals to feel and demonstrate human emotions and symbolic attributes,
including the desire for self defense, autonomy, and feelings of shame (Wells 95 97). The objective
of Moreau seems to be to create and preserve a gap between the human beings and animal creatures.
Nevertheless, in his efforts, Moreau inadvertently reveals the significance of the nature and status
of human beings.
In his efforts to vivisect non human animals and make them rational creatures , Moreau does not
differentiate between animal and rational characteristics. The effect of Moreau s actions and
outlook in the novel is to influence the audience s recognition of subjectivity as an important factor
in differentiating between human beings and animals. In the novel, Wells promotes the notion that
while human beings are animals, human animality represents a threat to progress. Moreau believes
that human perfection is a possibility, aiming to accelerate the process of evolution artificially to
transform animals into human beings mentally, emotionally, and physically. While respecting the
aims of Moreau, the narrator in the novel, Prendick, feels pity for the consequential Beast People ,
who he views as failed experiments (Wells 121). Moreau is unable to achieve his objectives,
complaining that the instincts, desires, and cravings that inundate the animals creep back
immediately after his experiment. When Prendick returns to England, he is constantly nervous
about human beings.

Reflection For My Personal Assignment
My theme for my second final piece follows on from my last theme of colour. This piece also
expresses personality through the use of colour, however, I moved away from using colour to
form the portraits and decided to make the background of my final piece to focus on colour and
pattern. I want to create a sense of how my personality is like just by the sight of my drawing
and background. Originally, my idea began with the thought of creating two different pieces.
The message I wanted to convey with this was to show the growth of my personality from then
till now. The first piece idea consisted of a portrait drawing of me as a young child while the
background the background would be either patterns or random painting techniques. The pattern
determined how my personality was like as a young child (for example, a structured background
with repeated pattern shows a confident and determined personality while random mark
makings reflect a creative or angry personality). I wanted this drawing to have smooth pencil
strokes to create a pure and soft look to represent my young age. For my second drawing of me
in my represent state, I wanted the pencil strokes (used to create the drawing) more rough such
as cross hatching strokes technique. The cross hatches will be a representation of me being
more confident in myself as well as how the idea of who I am has developed to this age.The
background for the first drawing applies to the second one also. During the process of my
research, I decided to focus on creating one final piece. The final piece would be my idea of
using drawing myself from a young age that I was and then doing a background pattern following
the design idea I previously mentioned. Throughout this second part of this project, I researched
on mark making drawing techniques from artists such as Rembrandt and Da Vinci. Rembrandt s
marks of his drawing overlap each other many times. Rembrandt focus on using his marks to create
form and tones, while Da Vinci s mark makings are more structured and technical due to his
engineering experience. Davinci s marks mainly arranged in a diagonal order. In addition to mark
making, I researched on drawing techniques used to drawing children with. From that

PREVALENCE OF NON STRABISMIC VERGENCE DYSFUNCTIONS IN AN ORTHOPTIC
CLNIC
INTRODUCTION
In the preceding generations, fine distance visual acuity and stereoscopic vision were of paramount
importance, since the survival depended absolutely on the capability to farm, hunt and fish. But
today, the emphasis has shifted virtually from distance visual functions to two dimensional near
visual tasks such as desk work, reading, computer usage etc.The presence of non strabismic
binocular dysfunctions such as accommodative and vergence anomalies make it difficult for the
visual system to perform these kind of activities with accuracy and effortlessness. When persons,

In a clinical study to determine the presence and clinical implications of the general binocular
dysfunctions in a population of university students, Esteban Porcar et al 4 found a prevalence of
32.3 % of non strabismic binocular anomalies.
To achieve as estimate of the population prevalence of vergence dysfunctions, we have
systematically reviewed the previous studies related to this. So this study was designed to estimate
the prevalence of vergence dysfunctions in an orthoptic clinic set up and also to set up well
defined diagnostic criteria for all the vergence anomalies.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
755 Patients above the age of seven years presented consecutively to the orthoptics clinic of
Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai between March 2010 and February 2011 was considered for this
retrospective cohort study based on the inclusion and the exclusion criteria with the help of Medical
Record Department and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) search engine.
The inclusion criteria used were age more than or equal to seven years, distance best corrected
visual acuity of 6/9 in both the eyes, near best corrected visual acuity of N6 @ 30 40 cm,
adequate sensory fusion with worth four dot test for distance as well as for near, Random Dot
stereo acuity of 500 arc seconds or more. All the patients who had a history of monocular or
binocular amblyopia, manifest

Amylase Reaction Lab Report
The objective for performing this experiment was to establish the relationship between an
individual s ancestral diet, amylase concentration, and their amylase gene copy number. The
hypothesis predicted for this experiment was if a participant belongs to ancestors that have
consumed high levels of starch this would lead both their salivary amylase concentration and their
amylase gene copy number to be higher than those who belong to ancestors who have consumed
lower levels of starch. The experiment started off by collecting absorbance values of specific
amylase concentrations using the wavelength 620 nm on the Spectrometer 200, which then was
created into a calibration curve to establish that absorbance and intensity of the colour measured...

Before it undergoes PCR the DNA extraction has a few steps to be done first, which is crucial to

then is purified (Tracey, 2017). The extracted DNA was then put into NaOH, a strong base and
heated to 95 degrees Celsius, which leads to breaking down the hydrogen bonds between the

Is It Proper to place someone in jail for a seatbelt...
States across the nation have seat belt laws in place that make it a requirement for drivers and
passengers in vehicles that are being operated on public streets to wear some sort of safety belt.
In 1998, 41,471 people were killed in 6,334,000 reported motor vehicle accidents in the United
States. Seat belts are estimated to save 9,500 lives each year, and statistics show a higher degree
of seat belt use in states that aggressively enforce seat belt laws. The laws, as well as the
punishmentsavailable for violation of the laws vary by state. In most states, however, it is
considered a misdemeanor and punishable by a small fine. The properness of an arrest for such
violationsis a good question and has been... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When trying to determine whether or not it is proper to put someone in jail for violating the seat belt
law courts must examine the state s statutes to determine whether or not an arrest could be deemed
a violation of the citizens Fourth Amendment rights. The Fourth Amendment provides the right of
the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches
and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause,
supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the
persons or things to be seized. Historically courts have evaluated these cases by first determining if
probable cause existed to make the arrest. Next, they look at the reasonableness of the arrest, with
reasonableness being measured as an objective standard, not by the arresting officers state of mind.
In the case of Dunaway v. New York the court stated that the probable cause standard applies to all
arrests, without the need to balance the interests and circumstances involved in a particular
situation. In other words, if and officer arrests an individual whom he or she believes to have
committed even a minor crime in his presence there has been no violation committed. The cases of

Mercury Poisoning and 1990 S When Mercury Mining...
Intro: Mercury can be used in many different products such as barometers, florescent lamps, and
electrical switches and can be in the fish that we eat, whether the fish was caught in a local lake
or bought from the grocery store. Mercury is a naturally occurring element in the earth s crust
that can be moved around from volcanoes, coal burning plants, mining, and other natural or
human actions. Mercury is well documented as a toxic chemical that is atmospherically
transported on a local, regional, and global scale by cycling among air, land, and water (U.S.
EPA, 2009). As early as the 1950 s we found that exposure to mercury can be extremely toxic, even
deadly to animals and people. Throughout this report I will describe the basic... Show more content

From the vapor the mercury can be distilled and collected. During the 1850 s the California gold
rush started which brought with it many different methods to find the precious metal. One of
these methods was to use mercury to recover the gold deposits which were at different depths.
Mercury was used to enhance gold recovery in all the various types of mining operations;
historical records indicate that more mercury was used and lost at hydraulic mines than at other
types of mines (Alpers, 2005). This made mercury a necessity in mining gold and was used
widely until the 1960 s. Most of the mercury used in gold recovery in California was obtained
from mercury deposits in the Coast Range on the west side of California s Central Valley. Total
mercury production in California between 1850 and 1981 was more than 220,000,000 lb
(Alpers, 2005). By the late 1950 s the effects of mercury were brought to light by scientists
studying birds in Sweden. Besides realizing the effects of mercury on birds and other animals, the
possibility of mercury in humans was eye opening. The most infamous case of severe mercury
poisoning occurred at Minamata Bay, Japan, in 1952. The Chisson Chemical Company dumped
mercury in Minamata harbor, and the residents of local fishing villages ate mercury contaminated
fish from the harbor. Hundreds of people were affected and 68 people died (COTW, 2010). This
event created some concern about mercury but nothing seemed to create

The Ontological Files
The authors[7] presented an approach in which ontological profiles are built. Ontology is
considered to be a hierarchy of topics which is used to classify and categorise web pages. It is also
used to identify the topics in which the particular user is interested. Ontology has some existing
concepts to which interest scores are assigned. Keeping the reference ontology, these profiles are
maintained and updated. With observing the ongoing behaviour, a spreading activation algorithm
was proposed for maintaining the interest scores. So this way of the interest scores updation, the
most relevant results are brought on the top.
Each built profile is an instance of this reference ontology. A user profile may comprise of variety
of concepts which is represented as nodes. Each node is represented as a pair (Cj, IS(Cj)),where Cj
is a concept in the reference ontology and IS(Cj)is the interest score annotation for that concept.
Every concept in the profile is provided with an interest score having initial value as one.
The ontological user profile is treated as the network of concepts and the interest scores are updated
based on the activation values. These scores are updated using spreading activation algorithm[8].
Input vector is also involved to represent the current interaction of the user. When the user selects
documents, the user profile is updated and the interest scores of the existing concepts are modified
using spreading activation. by this way the web pages in which the user

Accuracy Of Evolution Through Upanishads
Accuracy In Evolution Through Upanishads
The Upanishads, dating from around 800 B.C., take us further in the advancement of Indo Aryan
thought, and it is a major step. The Aryans have long been settled down and a firm, prosperous
human advancement has grown up, a blend of the old and the new, commanded by Aryan thought
and goals, however with a foundation of more primitive types of worship. The Vedasare alluded to
with respect, additionally in a soul of delicate irony. The Vedic gods no more fulfil and the custom
of the priests is ridiculed. There is no endeavour to cut from the past; the past is taken as a
beginning stage for further advancement.
The Upanishads are nature with a soul of enquiry, of mental experience, of an energy for figuring
out reality about things. The quest for this truth is, obviously, not by the target techniques for
present day science, yet there is a component of the experimental system in the methodology. No
authoritative opinion is permitted to come in the way. There is much that is trifling and with no
significance for us to day. The pressure is basically on self realisation, on knowledge of the
individual self and and the universal self, both of which are said to be the same fundamentally.
The target outside world is not viewed as unreal but real in a relative sense, a part of the internal
reality.
There are numerous ambiguities in the Upanishads and distinctive translations have been made. But
that is a matter for the philosopher or

While Big Biotech claims that humans won t experience the same kind of damage, studies out of

Through gene escape they can pass on to other people of the same species and perhaps other

So far research on this is inconclusive with scientists divided often bitterly. But there is scientific

Killing The Buddha Or Becoming One
Killing the Buddha or Becoming One: The long and winding road from early Buddhism to Zen
Zen (Ch. Chan) is a general term for a Mahayana school Buddhism, which emerged during Tang
dynasty China (618 907). Ever since it had crystallized as an independent school of thought, we
witness in Zen a tension between the need to belong to the Buddhist tradition and the urge to revolt
against it. On the one hand, Zen masters had considered themselves, and still do, as direct heirs and
followers of the historical Buddha, and on the other hand order their disciples to abandon the
Buddhist teaching. Thou, somewhat radical, Linji Yixuan (d. 866) famous saying: If you meet a

Lutheranism View Of The Trinity
The basis of every Christian belief is the identity and nature of God. One cannot understand
anything else until he comprehends these two items. Since they are so crucial to everything else, it
is necessary to understand where Lutheranism stands on this matter. At its core, Lutheranism views
God as the father in a parent child relationship (Jacobs 510). He is not a hateful or malicious God,
but one that seeks the benefit of His creation through Christ, whom the Scriptures reveal (510).
Because Lutheranism views God through the context of Christ, it also adheres to the traditional
view of the Trinity. The Trinity is the idea of God existing in three persons: the Father, the Son, and
the Holy Spirit(Cross 1562). Lutheranism holds to this position

Peter Stalmans and associates143 conducted a randomized control trial. Its data support the finding
that intravitreal injection of ocriplasmin leads to resolution of vitreomacular traction, induction of
posterior vitreous detachment, and closure of a macular hole in some cases. The incidence of
vitrectomy was lower among the patients who received ocriplasmin than among those who
received placebo. A sham injection would have provided a better comparison with the natural

Boeing Financial Ratios
Financial Statement Analysis
Mom, I want to purchase stocks in the Boeing by my money. My son, a 12 year old boy, told me
a few month ago. His dream job is a pilot, and he has been a big fan of airplanes. The first thing
he would like to do in the U. S. was to join the Boeing factory tour, and his most favorite museum
is The Flight in Seattle, sponsored by the Boeing. Four years have passed since we have been in
Portland, but it seems that his interest has never changed. Now, my son, a digital native, is above
me in terms of the ability to get information from the Internet, he has had a lot of information about
the airplane industry from the internet. According to my son, Boeing would be an invincible
company for the reason that the U.S. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Book value per common share is a measure used by owners of common shares in a firm to

Meaning Of Happiness
There s no question that everyone wants to be happy within their lives. The only source of
disagreement lies within how one achieves happiness and what happiness really means. The
authors within the book Pursuing Happiness have their own meanings of happiness and what it
takes to achieve happiness. Topics such as: what happiness is, what brings happiness, what role
does money play in happiness, etc. In this first discussion, we see what the some of the authors
have to say about the meaning of happiness. Someone such as his Holinessthe Dalai Lamawould
argue that happiness is having peace and satisfaction within one s mind. As a tibetan monk, he
believe that happiness occurs within the self (Dalai Lama and Cutler 23). In contrast, Thomas
Jeffersonwould explain that happiness is actually the opportunity to freely choose one s path
within life. Freedom, in eyes, would be the embodiment of freedom (Declaration of
Independence). In would also argue that happiness stems from the feeling of self worth, that you
have a place within this world. As we see here, the true meaning of happiness all depends on the
person. There is no right or wrong answer because we each perceive happiness in a different
manner. This is important because it also means that there are different opinions in which someone
can achieve happiness. When it comes to achieving happiness, there are two things to consider;
physical and spiritual. Some people believe that happiness can come from material

The Evil of 1889
I could hear the water running from the shower when I came in the front door. That s strange, I
said. I dropped my keys and my yellow Star of David on top of the fridge and headed up the
stairs. The bathroom door was ajar a few inches and water was streaming out. As my fingers
reached out to push the door open the small hairs on my back stood to attention. It was too late;
the masculine hand was already on me. I endeavored to pull the hand away from my blanch face,
but I had already sank into his arms. It was cold. I woke up trying to free myself from the metal
brace. I screamed for help merely hearing an echo from the damp air. I searched in the darkness
for a way out, when all of a sudden a flash of light appeared. I tried to find the source when a
familiar voice called out, Are you comfortable, Leah? Would you like something to eat? Who are
you? What do you want from me? What an incorrect reply. Let me rephrase that. I didn t kidnap
you but I just borrowed you. In shock I said, Borrow me! You can t borrow a human. Are you a
lunatic? Hahaha, young lady you should never call a noble man a lunatic. You should know of the
consequences. The light shut and a sound that resembled electricity was heard nearby. This time I
listened very closely. The sound kept getting louder and closer. Ahhhhhhhhh! My body was
twitching, my hair smelled burnt. I was in an electric chair. The light turned on again. Trying to lift
my head towards the light, the voice came back.

Beowulf And Grendel Comparison
Beowulf, known as the oldest poem in the written English language, written with no known author,
tells a fascinating story involving an epic hero of his time and a not so understood monster. The
hero s name is Beowulf, purposefully being the same title as the poem itself, he sets out on a
journey from his home to the Danes from a terrible creature that s harming innocent people. As any
hero would. Beowulfwants to prove to himself and the people that he is, in fact, the strongest man
on earth. Although Beowulf is a fine piece of writing on its own, it fails to tell all of the story,
just like any other one sided story does. But, thanks to the novel, Grendel, written by John
Gardner, we get to peek inside the villain s life for a change, which ultimately very well may
change the reader s view of the story completely. These two versions of the same story are told
from two different perspectives, Grendel s (the monster) and Beowulf s (the epic hero), the
story told in Beowulf s favor insinuates that Grendel is a terrible monster with no soul, whose
whole life is dedicated to killing anything and everything in his sight. However, in Grendel, we
see a completely different side of Grendel that isn t over shadowed by the hatred that the people
have on Grendel. In the book, Grendel, we learn about Grendel, and how he feels about himself.
We are taken on a journey through the last twelve months of Grendel s life and what lead up to
his, as some would have described it in the

Kid Cuudi Meaning
The song, Pursuit of Happiness by Kid Cudi, contains many theme of dark life. The title of the
song defines the traditional purpose of living a life freely with joy and the way makes us happy.
It is obvious to assume that the title of this song sort of indicates a happy feeling towards the
song, however, after listening to the song couple times and analyzing the lyrics this song is not an
uplifting anthem rather it is fairly dark, depressing song despite the title. Having fame, being rich
and doing drugs does not define the way an individual achieves their Pursuit of happiness but to
overcome these obstacles is what leads us to achieve the happiness we desire. The lyrics of this
song is infectious and straightforward. The cues including volume,... Show more content on

The instruments in the song mes it exceptionally interesting and the verses additionally draw out
the dark theme of the song. Nonetheless, both version starts as slow but Lissie, who is a rock
/pop vocalist, kind of takes the first form to a quick paced tune with the coordination of her band.
The expansion of drums and the melodic guitar sounds changes the entire state of mind of the
tune from the first, Lissie, utilizing her own particular vocal voice and her style of singing to
decide an alternate topic of the tune, drawing out a high and substantial tone. In other words, Kid
Cudi`s original melody throughout the song is played by a piano and that tune remains consistent
to the end. Which is changed from piano to a Guitar that essentially plays the main background
tone of the cover song, the pitch of the guitar begins from a moderate pitch and ends on a very
high rock pitch. This is one of the fundamental contrasts between the two versions, the pitch
distinction of a similar melody. The cover version changes the understanding of the original
version which separates the voice style of two distinct artists, changes from electronic hip hop
style to forming a rock and pop version. The inclination and felling of both renditions remain
practically the same because there is no change to the lyrics and both artists kept the feeling kept
the feeling at a similar level. Along these

Essay on I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by William Wordsworth
I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by William Wordsworth
I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by William Wordsworth, a poem that discloses the relationship
between nature and human beings: how nature can affect one s emotion and behavior with its
motion and sound. The words the author adopted in this poem are interconnected and related to
each other. They are simple yet profound, letting us understand how much William Wordsworth
related his works to nature and the universe. It also explained to us why William Wordsworth is
one of the greatest and the most influential English romantic poets in history. As Robert DiYanni
says in his book, with much of Wordsworth s poetry, this lyric reflects his deep love of nature, his
vision of a unified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He sees the universe as a harmonious whole, in which every subject reflects and echoes the other.
The daffodils became the speaker s companions in the third stanza, and they were describing as the
jocund company by the poet. He enjoys the company of the dancing daffodils, which brings him
happiness and joy.
As the poem goes on, the second emotion from the speaker occurs in the last stanza: the state of
solitude. For oft, when on my couch I lie, in vacant or in pensive mood, they flash upon that
inward eye, which is the bliss of solitude, the first emotion of isolation and loneliness seems to
reappear here. But his mood is no longer just vacant as a lonely cloud, but pensive. His mind is
now thoughtful and meditative because the existence of the daffodils. If he is vacant, he cannot
remember anything; then his memory would be involuntary. Unlike the first emotion that took the
speaker out of his loneliness, the second emotion repeats and recurs to the speaker, as William
Wordsworth uses the word oft often. The speaker is looking forward to his time of being alone,
because the daffodils will be there to dance for him, to keep him company; as the poet writes,
which is the bliss of solitude; and then my heart with pleasure fills, and dances with the daffodils.
William Wordsworth uses different groups of words in this poem to connect nature with human
beings: the pattern of their

Air Vice Marshal Francis Hubert
Air Vice Marshal Francis Hubert (Frank) McNamara Medals and Awards On March of 1917, the
allies had planned an attack on Gaza and they had subjected repeated attacks on Junction Station,
an important Turkish supply centre, to be carried out by No. 1 Squadron, and No. 14 Squadron,
R.F.C. During the attacks on 20th of March, an aircraft piloted by Captain D. from No. 1
Squadron, was forced to land due to being hit by ground fire. Despite the aircraft being a two
seater, he had been flying the aircraft by himself. A great group of enemy on horses were close
by and when they saw the aircraft, they began to gallop towards it. At that time, McNamara was
on his way home. He had been on the same raid that day, and was severely wounded after being
confronted by anti aircraft fire, despite his circumstances, McNamara decided to attempt a
rescue on Captain D. Rutherford. He managed to make a safe landing beside the pilot, and the
pilot climbed aboard McNamara s aircraft, which was a single seater. Therefore, the pilot could
only stand on the wing and hold on to the struts, this made the aircraft very lop sided, and dragged
the aircraft to one side. Due to this and his leg wound, McNamara could no longer control the
aircraft, so the aircraft crashed while attempting to take off. Although, crashing, the two remained
as they had been, and they set fire to the aircraft and decided to return to the pilot s aircraft. Pilot
Rutherford s aircraft was close to being captured by the

Alternative Energy is the Solution to the Fossil Fuel Dilemma
Alternative Energy is the Solution to the Fossil Fuel Dilemma
If the United States continues to employ fossil fuels for energy, the nation will ultimately become
more dependent upon fuel imports from the troublesome nations of the Middle East, and we will
continue to damage our precious environment. Since the United States relies so heavily on fuel
from the Middle East, the U.S. is subject to the will of those quarrelsome nations in order to
maintain our fuel reserve. A shortage of oil can happen at any time and would cause an energy
crisis that would hinder the United States. Another reason for us to substitute fossil fuels with
alternative energy sources is that fossil fuels are hazardous to the environment. In order to minimize

The price of oil went from $2.50 a barrel to $30.00 a barrel in six years (2). This price change
caused us to plunge into an energy crisis. Fogel also says that many experts believe the oil crisis
will inevitably repeat itself if the U.S. does not curb its high demands for imported oil (2). This
means that if we do not use some other form of energy, then the U.S. will fall into another energy
crisis. Alternative energy is crucial to the preservation of a habital environment. According to
Christine A. Erwin, doctors say that fifty thousand American deaths per year are directly connected
to airborne particulate matter. About one third of this pollution comes from power plants (1).
Therefore, if we were to produce power without producing the pollutants, then we would cut the
airborne particulates by one third, thus reducing American deaths. Solar energyis one answer to
producing power without pollution. This energy is inexhaustible and available for use anywhere.
Fogel says that if everyone could make full use of the sun s light and heat, we would have about
twenty thousand times as much energy as the entire world uses now (73). We can never use up
solar energy because it is enormous and limitless. According to Erwin, solar energy is already
being used everywhere in many different applications. People are using solar energy to heat pools,
houses, and hot water tanks and also to produce

Guantanamo Troopers Essay For most service members, the difficulties of deployments can include the operational tempo, uncertainty of the next mission, the fear of the unknown or the constant changes and frustrations of operational security. • 4. Norwegian Whaling Essay Norwegian Whaling Modern commercial whaling is continuously being over exploited as whaling companies strive to maximize their profits despite international protest and a ban by the International Commission. Many various species of whales have been extinct, and the relatively few whales that remain are extremely vulnerable, and the factors that led to their over exploitation in the past have not changed. Norway, one of the several countries involved in illegal whaling, has again refused to accept the international moratorium on whaling and has announced that its catch quotas for whales have risen. In 1995 Norwegian whales caught 217 whales out of a quota of 232. In 1996 the quota was 425. Now, on May 27, 1997 the whaling season will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Several justifications that Norway and Japan have for the endless massacre of these innocent whales are: it is a long established Norwegian tradition of whaling, Japan hunts whales under scientific research , and Both countries argue that minke whales are not endangered and that an uncontrolled population of the whales would threaten valuable fish stocks. However, none of this arguments use scientific evidence to justify the killings of these whales. In fact the cloak of tradition in Norway is being used to disguise the fact that the price of whale meat is $290 a kilogram, which is a very lucrative profit. Japan s excuse for scientific research is a poor one, considering money is made when the whale meat is sold to restaurants and wholesalers after the so called scientific research is completed. In addition, the relationship between fish stocks and whales need not be questioned. The fishery is a commercial industry, not a subsistence way of life. Minke whales are not participating in a commercial industry. The unreasonable justifications for murder cannot be accepted by any decent human being because whales are mammals, not fish, but they have been historically treated as fish by the commercial whaling industry. A great number of fish species reproduce by laying an enormous quantity of eggs into the sea for fertilization by males. Even though only a small percentage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Screen Media (2009) outlines that canonical style of narration, is achieved by a three part structure. This organisation is presented throughout the film, as viewers are introduced to the main character Charlie, (Logan Lerman) and his mental health issues. This introduction foreshadows the premise of the plot and overall motif creating a consistent theme where the middle section features a chain of events that Charlie must overcome. The Immigration and Naturalization Service, or the INS, concluded that the United States is currently a place to call home for a population of approximately twelve million illegal immigrants (Hayes 16). An American who has never been to Mexico, for example, may wonder why these people risk their lives to live in the United States. With the jobs, education, welfare, and unemployment compensation the American government has to offer, the United States appears as a lifeboat for these poor and uneducated immigrants (Hayes 16). The Pew Hispanic Center concluded in 2001 classified an estimated 5.3 million workers in the U.S. as unauthorized workers in the labor force. These jobs include 700,000 restaurant workers, 250,000 household workers, and 620,000 construction workers (Murphy). This is a whole lot of cheap labor, and without it the U.S. would suffer. If 620,000 construction workers were gone, home improvement projects across the nation would quickly be hard to find. With a large number of these immigrants also earning wages working on farms, Americans would find much of their produce rotting in fields due to the lack of workers (Murphy 2). The positive effect of these immigrants on the nation s labor force is well supported by Americans; however, the opinion of those rejecting these workers is accepted and taken into account as well. The main argument of Americans rejecting the idea of immigration is supported by the rising unemployment rate in America. There are hundreds of American natives who are unemployed. Harvard sociologist, Christopher Jencks, states, The reason that Americans will not take jobs washing dishes, cleaning hotel rooms, mowing lawns, and picking fruit is because immigrant labor has driven the wages down (Taylor). • 7. Laurryn Hill Tell Him Analysis The idea of love in relationships has become more popularized throughout the decades. Though the term love is ambiguous and can vary from person to person, Sternberg s Triangular Theory of Love depicts various forms of love based on passion, intimacy, and commitment alone and intersecting to form an intermediate form of love. To illustrate, in the song Tell Him by Lauryn Hill, a combination of intimacy and commitment creates companionate love seen between Hill and God. Companionate love is defined as the affection and tenderness we feel for those with whom our lives are deeply intertwined (Hatfield and Rapson, 1993). Companionate love can be seen in non couple relationships as it excludes passion (infatuation) and exemplifies a relationship built on deep affection and connectedness. • 8. Bismarck s Influence On The German Empire Essay Section 2. Investigation Bismarck, to many historians, was known for his ability to manipulate the Prussian government, and alliances with other nations to achieve his goal to create the German Empire with the Prussian Kaiser as its leader. Through his idea of Realpolitik, to do whatever deemed necessary to reach a goal, Bismarck manipulated the different parts of the Prussian government and the Foreign policy to unite the German States under the leadership of Prussia s Kaiser. The problem with Bismarck using Realpolitik is that he could have used illegal methods or methods that exceeded his authority as Prime Minister. Bismarck used methods that exceeded his given authority as Prime Minister, from 1862 1871, to a small extent. The Kaiser had given Bismarck power that exceeded that normally given to a Prime Minister, but through the expansion of powers of Prime Minister before he entered office, many of Bismarck s actions were found to be within his authority. Bismarck followed his policy of Realpolitik to no ends, willing to exceed his given authority as Prime Minister. One of the illegal actions that Bismarck executed was for the Prussian military budget. When Bismarck first gained the title of Prime Minister, his first task was to pass the military budget that the Kaiser requested in the 1862 budget. The Reichstag had power over making decisions over foreign, and federal policies, laws, and the military itself. The Parliament, although not given the sole power for ... After Margaret died, they moved to Ireland, hoping to get away from the poor streets of New York and back to their families. They found a home in Limerick, if you could call it a home. It was a room with a fireplace, a table, three chairs and a big bed. With a family of six, it was a tight fit, but after nights on boats and trains, it was heaven. Then came the fleas, which fed upon their slender bodies night after night. Frank McCourt has a subtle yet striking way of telling his story like it was; miserable. • 21. Subjectivity In Doctor Moreau s The Island Of Doctor Moreau In The Island of Doctor Moreau, one of the important characters is Moreau, a vivisectionist who has fled the exposure of his experiments to a remote island with the aim of pursuing his focus on research in the effort to perfect the Beast Folk . Moreau s claim is that the aim of his experiments and interactions with the beasts is to raise them into human creatures, buthis true purpose is to preserve the low status and nature of the beasts by denying any human attributes that are inherent in the animals. Moreau s focus is on prohibiting the non human animals from having and demonstrating emotions and attributes that are traditionally anthropocentric (human). Moreau does not allow the non human animals to feel and demonstrate human emotions and symbolic attributes, including the desire for self defense, autonomy, and feelings of shame (Wells 95 97). The objective of Moreau seems to be to create and preserve a gap between the human beings and animal creatures. Nevertheless, in his efforts, Moreau inadvertently reveals the significance of the nature and status of human beings. In his efforts to vivisect non human animals and make them rational creatures , Moreau does not differentiate between animal and rational characteristics. The effect of Moreau s actions and outlook in the novel is to influence the audience s recognition of subjectivity as an important factor in differentiating between human beings and animals. In the novel, Wells promotes the notion that while human beings are animals, human animality represents a threat to progress. Moreau believes that human perfection is a possibility, aiming to accelerate the process of evolution artificially to transform animals into human beings mentally, emotionally, and physically. While respecting the aims of Moreau, the narrator in the novel, Prendick, feels pity for the consequential Beast People , who he views as failed experiments (Wells 121). This piece also expresses personality through the use of colour, however, I moved away from using colour to form the portraits and decided to make the background of my final piece to focus on colour and pattern. I want to create a sense of how my personality is like just by the sight of my drawing and background. Originally, my idea began with the thought of creating two different pieces. The message I wanted to convey with this was to show the growth of my personality from then till now. The first piece idea consisted of a portrait drawing of me as a young child while the background the background would be either patterns or random painting techniques. The pattern determined how my personality was like as a young child (for example, a structured background with repeated pattern shows a confident and determined personality while random mark makings reflect a creative or angry personality). I wanted this drawing to have smooth pencil strokes to create a pure and soft look to represent my young age. For my second drawing of me in my represent state, I wanted the pencil strokes (used to create the drawing) more rough such as cross hatching strokes technique. The cross hatches will be a representation of me being more confident in myself as well as how the idea of who I am has developed to this age.The background for the first drawing applies to the second one also. During the process of my research, I decided to focus on creating one final piece. The final piece would be my idea of using drawing myself from a young age that I was and then doing a background pattern following the design idea I previously mentioned. Throughout this second part of this project, I researched on mark making drawing techniques from artists such as Rembrandt and Da Vinci. Rembrandt s marks of his drawing overlap each other many times. Rembrandt focus on using his marks to create form and tones, while Da Vinci s mark makings are more structured and technical due to his engineering experience. Davinci s marks mainly arranged in a diagonal order. In addition to mark making, I researched on drawing techniques used to drawing children with. From that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

PREVALENCE OF NON STRABISMIC VERGENCE DYSFUNCTIONS IN AN ORTHOPTIC CLNIC INTRODUCTION In the preceding generations, fine distance visual acuity and stereoscopic vision were of paramount importance, since the survival depended absolutely on the capability to farm, hunt and fish. But today, the emphasis has shifted virtually from distance visual functions to two dimensional near visual tasks such as desk work, reading, computer usage etc.The presence of non strabismic binocular dysfunctions such as accommodative and vergence anomalies make it difficult for the visual system to perform these kind of activities with accuracy and effortlessness. Amylase Reaction Lab Report The objective for performing this experiment was to establish the relationship between an individual s ancestral diet, amylase concentration, and their amylase gene copy number. The hypothesis predicted for this experiment was if a participant belongs to ancestors that have consumed high levels of starch this would lead both their salivary amylase concentration and their amylase gene copy number to be higher than those who belong to ancestors who have consumed lower levels of starch. The experiment started off by collecting absorbance values of specific amylase concentrations using the wavelength 620 nm on the Spectrometer 200, which then was created into a calibration curve to establish that absorbance and intensity of the colour measured... States across the nation have seat belt laws in place that make it a requirement for drivers and passengers in vehicles that are being operated on public streets to wear some sort of safety belt. Historically courts have evaluated these cases by first determining if probable cause existed to make the arrest. Next, they look at the reasonableness of the arrest, with reasonableness being measured as an objective standard, not by the arresting officers state of mind. In the case of Dunaway v. New York the court stated that the probable cause standard applies to all arrests, without the need to balance the interests and circumstances involved in a particular situation. Intro: Mercury can be used in many different products such as barometers, florescent lamps, and electrical switches and can be in the fish that we eat, whether the fish was caught in a local lake or bought from the grocery store. Mercury is a naturally occurring element in the earth s crust that can be moved around from volcanoes, coal burning plants, mining, and other natural or human actions. Mercury is well documented as a toxic chemical that is atmospherically transported on a local, regional, and global scale by cycling among air, land, and water (U.S. EPA, 2009). As early as the 1950 s we found that exposure to mercury can be extremely toxic, even deadly to animals and people. Throughout this report I will describe the basic... During the 1850 s the California gold rush started which brought with it many different methods to find the precious metal. One of these methods was to use mercury to recover the gold deposits which were at different depths. Mercury was used to enhance gold recovery in all the various types of mining operations; historical records indicate that more mercury was used and lost at hydraulic mines than at other types of mines (Alpers, 2005). This made mercury a necessity in mining gold and was used widely until the 1960 s. Most of the mercury used in gold recovery in California was obtained from mercury deposits in the Coast Range on the west side of California s Central Valley. Total mercury production in California between 1850 and 1981 was more than 220,000,000 lb (Alpers, 2005). By the late 1950 s the effects of mercury were brought to light by scientists studying birds in Sweden. Besides realizing the effects of mercury on birds and other animals, the possibility of mercury in humans was eye opening. The most infamous case of severe mercury poisoning occurred at Minamata Bay, Japan, in 1952. The Chisson Chemical Company dumped mercury in Minamata harbor, and the residents of local fishing villages ate mercury contaminated fish from the harbor. • 27. The Ontological Files The authors[7] presented an approach in which ontological profiles are built. Ontology is considered to be a hierarchy of topics which is used to classify and categorise web pages. It is also used to identify the topics in which the particular user is interested. Ontology has some existing concepts to which interest scores are assigned. Keeping the reference ontology, these profiles are maintained and updated. With observing the ongoing behaviour, a spreading activation algorithm was proposed for maintaining the interest scores. So this way of the interest scores updation, the most relevant results are brought on the top. Each built profile is an instance of this reference ontology. A user profile may comprise of variety of concepts which is represented as nodes. Each node is represented as a pair (Cj, IS(Cj)),where Cj is a concept in the reference ontology and IS(Cj)is the interest score annotation for that concept. Every concept in the profile is provided with an interest score having initial value as one. The ontological user profile is treated as the network of concepts and the interest scores are updated based on the activation values. These scores are updated using spreading activation algorithm[8]. Input vector is also involved to represent the current interaction of the user. When the user selects documents, the user profile is updated and the interest scores of the existing concepts are modified using spreading activation. by this way the web pages in which the user ... The quest for this truth is, obviously, not by the target techniques for present day science, yet there is a component of the experimental system in the methodology. No authoritative opinion is permitted to come in the way. There is much that is trifling and with no significance for us to day. • 42. Meaning Of Happiness There s no question that everyone wants to be happy within their lives. The only source of disagreement lies within how one achieves happiness and what happiness really means. The authors within the book Pursuing Happiness have their own meanings of happiness and what it takes to achieve happiness. Topics such as: what happiness is, what brings happiness, what role does money play in happiness, etc. In this first discussion, we see what the some of the authors have to say about the meaning of happiness. Someone such as his Holinessthe Dalai Lamawould argue that happiness is having peace and satisfaction within one s mind. As a tibetan monk, he believe that happiness occurs within the self (Dalai Lama and Cutler 23). In contrast, Thomas Jeffersonwould explain that happiness is actually the opportunity to freely choose one s path within life. Freedom, in eyes, would be the embodiment of freedom (Declaration of Independence). In would also argue that happiness stems from the feeling of self worth, that you have a place within this world. As we see here, the true meaning of happiness all depends on the person. There is no right or wrong answer because we each perceive happiness in a different manner. This is important because it also means that there are different opinions in which someone can achieve happiness. When it comes to achieving happiness, there are two things to consider; physical and spiritual. Some people believe that happiness can come from material ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Evil of 1889 I could hear the water running from the shower when I came in the front door. That s strange, I said. I dropped my keys and my yellow Star of David on top of the fridge and headed up the stairs. The bathroom door was ajar a few inches and water was streaming out. As my fingers reached out to push the door open the small hairs on my back stood to attention. It was too late; the masculine hand was already on me. I endeavored to pull the hand away from my blanch face, but I had already sank into his arms. It was cold. I woke up trying to free myself from the metal brace. I screamed for help merely hearing an echo from the damp air. I searched in the darkness for a way out, when all of a sudden a flash of light appeared. I tried to find the source when a familiar voice called out, Are you comfortable, Leah? Would you like something to eat? Who are you? What do you want from me? What an incorrect reply. Let me rephrase that. I didn t kidnap you but I just borrowed you. In shock I said, Borrow me! You can t borrow a human. Are you a lunatic? Hahaha, young lady you should never call a noble man a lunatic. You should know of the consequences. The light shut and a sound that resembled electricity was heard nearby. This time I listened very closely. The sound kept getting louder and closer. Ahhhhhhhhh! My body was twitching, my hair smelled burnt. I was in an electric chair. The light turned on again. Trying to lift my head towards the light, the voice came back. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Beowulf And Grendel Comparison Beowulf, known as the oldest poem in the written English language, written with no known author, tells a fascinating story involving an epic hero of his time and a not so understood monster. As any hero would. Beowulfwants to prove to himself and the people that he is, in fact, the strongest man on earth. Although Beowulf is a fine piece of writing on its own, it fails to tell all of the story, just like any other one sided story does. But, thanks to the novel, Grendel, written by John Gardner, we get to peek inside the villain s life for a change, which ultimately very well may change the reader s view of the story completely. These two versions of the same story are told from two different perspectives, Grendel s (the monster) and Beowulf s (the epic hero), the story told in Beowulf s favor insinuates that Grendel is a terrible monster with no soul, whose whole life is dedicated to killing anything and everything in his sight. However, in Grendel, we see a completely different side of Grendel that isn t over shadowed by the hatred that the people have on Grendel. In the book, Grendel, we learn about Grendel, and how he feels about himself. We are taken on a journey through the last twelve months of Grendel s life and what lead up to his, as some would have described it in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The expansion of drums and the melodic guitar sounds changes the entire state of mind of the tune from the first, Lissie, utilizing her own particular vocal voice and her style of singing to decide an alternate topic of the tune, drawing out a high and substantial tone. In other words, Kid Cudi`s original melody throughout the song is played by a piano and that tune remains consistent to the end. Which is changed from piano to a Guitar that essentially plays the main background tone of the cover song, the pitch of the guitar begins from a moderate pitch and ends on a very high rock pitch. This is one of the fundamental contrasts between the two versions, the pitch distinction of a similar melody. The cover version changes the understanding of the original version which separates the voice style of two distinct artists, changes from electronic hip hop style to forming a rock and pop version. He sees the universe as a harmonious whole, in which every subject reflects and echoes the other. The daffodils became the speaker s companions in the third stanza, and they were describing as the jocund company by the poet. He enjoys the company of the dancing daffodils, which brings him happiness and joy. As the poem goes on, the second emotion from the speaker occurs in the last stanza: the state of solitude. For oft, when on my couch I lie, in vacant or in pensive mood, they flash upon that inward eye, which is the bliss of solitude, the first emotion of isolation and loneliness seems to reappear here. But his mood is no longer just vacant as a lonely cloud, but pensive. His mind is now thoughtful and meditative because the existence of the daffodils. Alternative Energy is the Solution to the Fossil Fuel Dilemma Alternative Energy is the Solution to the Fossil Fuel Dilemma If the United States continues to employ fossil fuels for energy, the nation will ultimately become more dependent upon fuel imports from the troublesome nations of the Middle East, and we will continue to damage our precious environment. Since the United States relies so heavily on fuel from the Middle East, the U.S. is subject to the will of those quarrelsome nations in order to maintain our fuel reserve. A shortage of oil can happen at any time and would cause an energy crisis that would hinder the United States. Another reason for us to substitute fossil fuels with alternative energy sources is that fossil fuels are hazardous to the environment. In order to minimize ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The price of oil went from $2.50 a barrel to $30.00 a barrel in six years (2). This price change caused us to plunge into an energy crisis. Fogel also says that many experts believe the oil crisis will inevitably repeat itself if the U.S. does not curb its high demands for imported oil (2). This means that if we do not use some other form of energy, then the U.S. will fall into another energy crisis. Alternative energy is crucial to the preservation of a habital environment. According to Christine A. Erwin, doctors say that fifty thousand American deaths per year are directly connected to airborne particulate matter. About one third of this pollution comes from power plants (1). Therefore, if we were to produce power without producing the pollutants, then we would cut the airborne particulates by one third, thus reducing American deaths. Solar energyis one answer to producing power without pollution. This energy is inexhaustible and available for use anywhere. Fogel says that if everyone could make full use of the sun s light and heat, we would have about twenty thousand times as much energy as the entire world uses now (73). We can never use up solar energy because it is enormous and limitless. According to Erwin, solar energy is already being used everywhere in many different applications.
