Differences Of The North And South During The 1800s
During the 1800s, life in America was very different depending on where, on the map, people were
located, the North or the South. The North and the South were different in three ways,
economically, politically, and, lastly, socially. Even through their differences, there were also a few
simularites. To begin, the Northand South were different economically mainly because one, the
North, was an Industrial economy, and the other, the South, was an Agricultural economy. Meaning,
in the North, they mainly made their money through northern factories and inventions. Middle class
workers would work up to twelve to fourteen hour shifts in factories to make a little income. The
owners of these factories tended to make the most money while the Artisans,... Show more content

In the North, the owners of factories tended to be more wealthy. The more wealthier the person is,
the more likely they could run in politics. These wealthy factory owners tended to hold the most
political power because they were mainly looked up to in the northern society. People assumed
that if they were rich they must be smart or important, making the rich perfect canidates to be
politics. White people had some political power just because of their skin but, on the other hand,
immigrants and free African Americans had little to no political power, meaning, their say was of
no importance. In the South, the plantation owners, or people with more than five slaves, tended to
hold the most political power. Slave owners lived in beautiful large homes and acted as though they
were wealthy Europeans, attracting the attention of many. People in the South looked up to the
wealthy, similar to the North. Their elegant homes and beautiful life threw these plantation owners
right to the top of the political power. In the South, whites with no slaves had some political power
but not nearly as much as the plantation owners did. People with no politcal power, would be the
free African Americans and slaves. As made clear, the wealthy, in both the South and the North,
held the most politcal power and usually took role as political

Australian Gold Rush Research Paper
History Essay: The Australian Gold Rush
The Australian Gold Rush was often described as the making of a country. The Gold Rush was
undeniably one of the most significant events in the history of Australia. In May 1851, the first
grain of gold was discovered in Australia (Australian Government, 2015). This discovery led to the
boom of Australia s economy. Prior to the discovery, Australia was a lawless unknown prison
colony because of committed crimes from England. The Australian Gold Rush also brought in
multiculturalism and population, it also created the wealth of Australia s economy of today. If the
Australian Gold Rush did not exist, Australia would have been a whole different nation. The Gold
Rush also played a major role, leading to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Interlopers Thesis
Thesis statement: The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin has a unique and intelligent concept, but
is defeated by lack of story building and a rushed, badly constructed ending. The Interlopers by
Saki has a much more basic premise, but uses natural storytelling elements to create seamless story
progression and a more powerful message.
Setting
The Story of an Hour: The audience is keyed into the time period by mention of how popular
newsstands are, the lack of cell phones, and the social restrictions within marriages that Mrs.
Millard, the main character, describes. When Mrs. Millard s manic episode begins, she retires to
an armchair by an open window, symbolic of her newfound inner freedom. This creates imagery for
the audience and helps to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, said story cheats itself of a meaningful message and ending by not taking time to
create a believe and rich setting.
Suspense
The Story of an Hour: The first sentence sums up all that is wrong with suspense in this story,
Knowing that Mrs. Mallard was afflicted with a heart trouble, great care was taken to break [...]
the news of her husband s death. In The Interlopers, story pertaining details were introduced as
scene setting, a subtle plot motivating technique this story abandons. The remaining suspense is
developed entirely through Mrs. Millard s hyperactive imagination as she dreams of the future. Her
euphoric visions are repeated, and repeated again. An uneasiness is created for the sole reason that
most people know that sane people don t think this way. Ultimately, the lazy suspense building
cheapens the ending and while successfully creates tension, dissolves itself by being overly obvious
and unvaried.
The Interlopers: Organic tension is built by atmosphere, dialogue, and subtle set up of the closing

quarry, but to keep a lookout for the prowling thieves whom he suspected of being afoot from across
the land boundary. The roebuck, which usually kept in the sheltered hollows during a storm wind,
were running like driven things tonight, and there was movement and unrest among the creatures
that were wont to sleep through the dark hours. The

Vegetation Mcs In The Edwards Plateau
In the Edwards Plateau the estimated annual interception loss that is, the proportion of precipitation
that never reaches mineral soil for a given site dominated by stoloniferous grass was 10.8% of
annual precipitation, while a bunchgrass dominated site had an annual interception loss of 18.1%.
Oak trees and the litter beneath the trees intercepted about 46% of annual precipitation (Thurow et
al., 1987). This indicated that shifts in the kind or amount of vegetation affect interception.
Vegetation mosaics are created due to the different infiltration capacities of various vegetation
types, where areas under some species receive more water from a precipitation event than others
with lower infiltration capacities (Thompson et al., 2010).

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Deficit Spending
Deficit Spending and the Crowding Out Effect
Andrew L. Petereck
American Public University System
Abstract
Deficit spending applies to businesses, governments, and individuals alike. In relation to
governments, deficit spending refers to spending more money than taking in over a given period
(Investopedia, n.d.). Some Keynesian economists argue that deficits are a necessary evil needed to
stimulate an economy. In theory, the deficitspending fills a gap in consumer spending during a
recession by increasing government purchases to balance out the aggregate demand and stabilize
the unemployment rate (Investopedia, n.d.). However, the downsides to deficit spending include
possibly lowering GDP and increasing debt. Lastly, crowding out is known as the process where
high government spending takes opportunities away from private sectors, hence the name crowding
out (Investopedia, n.d.). This paper will explain some of the advantages and disadvantages to
deficit spending while reviewing some of the effects of crowding out in an economy. Keywords:
deficit spending, crowding out,
Deficit Spending and the Crowding Out Effect The debate over the effectiveness of deficit
spending has been ongoing for years and will continue to be debated for years to come. Keynesian
economists argue deficit spending is necessary for the survival of an economy, claiming the
economy would not recover fast enough without it. Other economists argue an economy shouldn t

karate Essay
Fighting
Fighting, or kumite, is the freestyle use of moves one has learned. During this freestyle match, the
students may use any technique they have learned in their training for either defensive or offensive
purposes. Fighting is involved with probably only 30 % of skill the student has. However, this is a
very important part of the whole. As mention earlier, katas help in perfecting the moves and the
focus of executing them. On the other hand, fighting employs these moves.
Practicing in fighting will assist in the timing and rhythm of the execution of the move. In a kata
you have as long as you want to throw each kick, each block, each punch, and as much time to
move into the next stance.
During a fight, you must use these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of blocking all of these attacks, you can stop them. If you block the kick and follow up
quickly with your own set of attacks this will surprise the opponent and interrupt his rhythm. The
only way to get a good grasp on these ideas mentioned is to practice.
The only way to become a good fighter is to practice fighting. I don t mean to go out on the streets
and pick a fight with one person after another. Not only is that stupid it is also illegal. I mean to
practice fighting in a controlled environment where both fighters have respect for one another.
Fighters having respect for one another doesn t mean they are going to take it easy on each other ,
it means that if one is knocked to the ground the other isn t going to jump on top of him and
continue beating the crap out of him or if a good punch or kick is thrown the fighter getting hit
should acknowledge the attack and not get pissed off.
The Tae Kwon Do style of fighting is different than many other styles of martial arts fighting. Tae
kwon do could best be described as street fighting. It is mainly composed of kicks punches and
blocks, however there are a few take downs and throws. When a throw or take down is executed
in TKD, one or two attacks are executed at the downed opponent, after that the attacker backs away.
This is because TKD is not wrestling or rolling around on the ground throwing

Short Story Of Tom Brady The Great
The Greatest
Is Tom Brady the greatest QB of all time ? The question a 13 year old boy had asked his father

basketball game. Almost everybody around New England think s so .The father answered . As
they watched the game they constantly talked about how well he was playing. Just making players
that everybody said are An amazing player appear as idiots.
Later, after watching the Patriots win 41 25 and watching Tom Bradyhave an impressive game they
listened to players stats it stunned me how well Tom Brady did without making it look like he
wasn t putting any effort in to it. He threw for 315 yards and 4 touchdowns with no
interceptions. But this isn t anything special for him this season. On October 9th Tom Brady threw
for 406 yards and 3 touchdown passes with 0 interceptions with another win against the Cleveland

providers to institute a policy of using at least two patient identifiers when providing care,
treatment, and services. This goal has two objectives, one to verify the individual as the person for
whom the service or treatment for and to match the service or treatment to that individual.

Big cities like New York with dense popularity should be extremely concerned about this
phenomenon by introducing new feasible energy saving proposal to mollify this challenge.
One of the main solution is to decrease or maintain the same greenhouse gas (GHG) emission
level for temperature control. Since nearly three quarters of the GHG in New York City is emit
from buildings , targeted project aim at renew existing low energy efficiency building and expand
more new clean energy technology in both public and private housing. The new plan named New
City, Built to Last should be activate to transform New York City s Buildings for a Low Carbon
Future . With this affordable project, every citizen could enjoy the benefit of an advanced low
carbon city, improving the public health in long term. Moreover, the new plan will generate large
amount of addition job positions to better boost the economy.
To better analysis the effect of this new plan, a stakeholder map is illustrate below, by placing each
stakeholder in their position.
The most affected group will be residents living in New York which could be grouped by low
income, middle income and high income residents. The low income residents tend to have negative
attitude since they pay a higher share of their rent for energy than wealthier residents, and often live

The Jungle Essay example
The book, The Jungle, by Upton Sinclair had a major impact on the way the world saw the
American Meat Packing Industry. While Upton Sinclair originally intended to appeal to the
public s heart concerning the conditions and the treatment of workers, it was obvious that the
book had more of an impact on the meat industry. The public was outraged by the stories of waste
meat being canned as wholesome meat, workers falling into vats and being processed as lard, and
dead animals being processed when the inspectors weren t looking. Upton was quoted in saying, I
aimed at the public s heart, and by accident I hit it in the stomach (Kantor 1976). The impact that
this fictitious novel had, can still be seen today. After the outrage of hearing... Show more content

On numerous occasions, the packing companies were tried for selling bad products, but the
packing companies always came out on top (Yeager 1906). Many people felt that the trials were
unfair and that the Beef Trust had its hands in the politics that lead to the false innocence of the
packing industries (Yeager 1906). In 1902, Dr. Harvey Wiley created the Division of chemistry,
also known as the Poison Squad. This Division of Chemistry analyzed products that were created
by the packing companies. They looked for any kind of dyes, preservatives, or adulterants that
may have been added to the meats. The Division of Chemistry found, in the numerous products
sampled, that the meat was wholesome and contained no adulterants, dyes, or any preservatives
other than the types and amounts that were allowed. They also inspected meat packing plants to
find that the sanitation was acceptable in almost all cases (Young 1908). The book gave
examples of potted ham, which was said to be the waste of beef or pork. The pieces of meat
were too small for any other product so they were gathered together and made into its own
product. Some of the parts included tripe, which were supposedly dyed so that they would not
appear white. Harvey Wiley at first was very pessimistic about this potted meat. Upon analyzing the
product, he found that the meat was indeed wholesome and free of dyes or adulterants (Young
1908). In 1906, the Pure Food and

The Privilege For False Privilege
1.Does the absolute privilege for statements made in judicial proceedings protect defamatory
statements made in letters to a judge submitted into evidence at a criminal trial?
2.Does the qualified privilege to publish to someone who shares a common interest or in defense
of the interest of others apply when a party in a criminal matter solicited individuals to submit

II.Brief Answers
1.Likely yes. Because the statements were related to judicial proceedings, and there was an

Peck, 43 Md. App. 168, 173 (1979).
This doctrine has a fascinating history beginning on June 13, 1888, when the Court of Appeals
decided three cases involving this privilege on the same day. One case involved statements made
by an attorney in the course of judicial proceedings, Maulsby v. Reifsnider, 69 Md. 143 (1888),
another involved statements by a witness providing testimony, Hunckel v. Voneiff, 69 Md. 179
(1888), and the final involved statements made by party litigants in a case, Bartlett v. Christhilf, 69
Md. 219 (1888). The theme that emerged from these three cases is that when a witness is providing
testimony to the court, that witness should be answerable only to the court, and not to third parties,
for untrue statements by means of the power find someone guilty of perjury. Under these three
cases, then, it would appear that the privilege would only apply to statements made under the
penalty of perjury. As such under this 1888 rule the doctrine would not likely apply because the
letters submitted to the court would not likely be punishable by perjury.
In Kennedy v. Cannon, 229 Md. 92, 96 (1962), however, the Court of Appeals extended the 1888
rule to apply to a witness in any pleadings, affidavits, depositions, and

Taking a Look at BioMarin
1. Background
BioMarin is a biotechnology company headquartered in Novato, California and with operations in
Europe, South America, USA and Asia. BioMarin originally began developing carbohydrate
enzymes for rare diseases. Their first candidate drug was AldurazymeВ® which is currently being
used to treat patients of Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS I). MPS I patient census consists of about
3,400 patients in developed countries; 1,000 of which reside in the United States of America.
Because of the rare nature of this condition and the rareness of other conditions being treated by
BioMarin, they are considered an orphan drug company. Receiving orphan drug designation has
resulted in BioMarin gaining certain advantages from the FDA such as: seven year exclusive
period on marketing after a drug has been approved and tax incentives. As such, BioMarin has
not necessarily faced competition in the therapeutic areas of their approved products. BioMarin
was founded as a subsidiary of Glyko Biomedical in 1996 and started operations in 1997. While
Glyko provided the initial start up funds, BioMarin also sold 2.5 million common stock to its
founders. The company has a history of success in fundraising. Examples of some key financing
activities experienced a few years after inception include private placements to independent
investors and Glyko Biomedical in 1999 worth $26 million and a 50:50 joint venture with
Genzyme in 1998 worth $30 million. BioMarin raised a combined sum of $58 million

John Paul II Hero
Joseph Campbell, American mythologist and religious writer, once said, A hero is someone
who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself. A human being who is brave and

Great Philosophers
For this assignment, I chose the following three ethical philosophers: Confucius, Immanuel Kant,
and Paulo Freire. Each of these ethicists differs in the way they resolved ethical dilemmas and the
assignment will focus on how each ethicists would respond to a certain situation. Confucius
reasoning is that all humanare good; however, when face with an ethical dilemma, there is an
inequality between what is good and bad. I believe that the response from Confucius it would not
be acceptable to steal food to feed a starving child. The reason why I believe this is because
Confucius was a virtueethicist and believed in loyalty, which is respect for the law and stealing, is
not showing respect for the law (Great Philosophers, n.d.). I believe that Confucius would go to the
store and ask the store manager and tell him the situation about starving child. One of Confucius
central virtues is honest, which is respect for the truth. Telling the store manager the truth is not
only respecting the store but also respecting you (Great Philosophers, n.d.).... Show more content on

The next ethicist is Kant; whose reasoning I believe is that everything that is was illegal and
morally wrong is unacceptable. If we look at the situation regarding the stealing of food for a
starving child, I believe that Kant would response favorable to someone stealing food for a starving
child. According to Kantian ethics, we have a perfect to others not to steal; however, we also have

U.s. Airline Carriers And Canada
Case Situation
Over the past three years, the number of Canadians crossing the border to take the advantage of
the cheaper U.S. airline carriers was increasing. The young adults from 18 24 years old led the
way with 32% have down so. Also, survey suggests that the residents from Ontario and British
Columbia were most frequent flyers from the U.S. airports with 23% of the respondents.
Canadians make up 88% of the customers at the Fall Airport. YVR and YWG are estimated to lose
nearly 1,000,000 and 250,000 passengers to the U.S. each year respectively. WestJet is affected by
this situation in the price battle. In order to keep its fares competitive, WestJet announced baggage

America. I will address the why and the how benefits of using the career advancement planner, the
use of my personal career advancement planner.
Analysis
In most of the organizations, HR team doesn?t design the job on the basis of team, though they
interact with different functional departments in order to understand the job requirement and then
after starts the hiring and recruiting process. Studies done by Deepa and Seth suggest that most of
the competencies are related to the soft skills, that different teams are look for, but during the
interaction, departments call for hard skills. In such

Distal Radioulnar Joint
The wrist is an anatomic linkage bridging the hand to the forearm. Eight bones of carpus and the
distal radius and ulna form complex articulation that allow 3 degrees of movement. The hand,
relative to the forearm, can flex and extend, pronate and supinate, and deviate ulnar and radial. [17]
In order to have such mobility while maintaining stability, the wrist has complex configuration of
ligaments and bones. Malfunction of the wrist occurs when the structural alignment of the bones
has changed or when the ligamentous constraints have been disrupted. [17]
The distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ)
Problems of the DRUJ have been called by Palmer as the low back pain of the wrist. [18]
Over the last years, there has been a tremendous surge in research involving the anatomy, function,
and treatment of DRUJ pathology.
In the DRUJ: The shallow concave sigmoid notch of the distal radius articulates with the convex
asymmetric shaped ulnar head.

There is also reported a palmar osteocartilagenous lip in 80% of the people which acted as a stable
buttress to palmar dislocation of the ulna.
The articulation of the sigmoid notch with the ulnar head allows rotation of the radiocarpal unit in
the transverse plane.[ 19]
The ulna head:
The medial area of it has a bony prominence, whichis known as the ulnar styloid process. This is
the point of attachment for soft tissue structures. The dorsal nonarticular portion of the ulnar head
has an osseous groove to accommodate the extensor carpi ulnaris tendon (ECU). Articular
cartilage covers a 90 to 135 degrees arc of the ulnar head, and only a 47 to 80 degree arc on the
sigmoid notch.[20]
One important geometric joint characteristic of the DRUJ is the radius of curvature between the
two articulating surfaces. The radius of curvature of the ulnar head (averages 10 mm) is different
from the radius of curvature of the sigmoid notch (averages 15 mm). Consequently,

Analysis Of The Interactive Model Of Product Development
Introduction:
In design and fabrication of metallic equipment and structures, often weight saving is often used to
improve efficiency in in service performance of the item. This paper will explore the interactive
model of product development, which includes the important of: the uses of alternative materials
on the design, fabrication and in service behaviour of the item in order to provide awareness of
how issue of the underlying principles of each of these weight saving alternatives and the
advantages to be gained, using the benchmark grade 350 steel.
Grade 350 steel
In general, the strength of a steel is controlled by its microstructure which changes according to its
chemical composition, its thermal background and the deformation processes it undergoes during
its production schedule. Hence, different steels will have different strengths and most nations
measure its strengths by a national standard. According to engineers Australia, Australia grades
their steel according to their yield strength, thus the value of applied stress at which permanent
deformation occurs, in smooth lab specimen. (Engineering austraila,2008 ).So, a grade 350 means
yield strength of 350 Mpa. We typically uses a 350 grade which is classified as a medium steel to
design bridges, high rise building, storage tanks, structural members and general fabrication. This
medium strength structural steel is excellent of weldability, good formability and guaranteed
minimum strength levels.

Comparing The Soldier by Rupert Brooke and Dulce Et...
Comparing The Soldier by Rupert Brooke and Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen
World War I, probably the most horrible of modern wars, inspired some of the most beautiful and
powerful poetry of the 20th century. Two very good examples are The Soldier by Rupert Brooke
and Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen, both were written before and during the this war.
Rupert Brooke was a well educated English man who lived the enthusiasm of the whole country
when the war started. He wrote this and many other poems with the illusion of a very short war
with a happy ending. He joined the army and went to war. However, he didn t have the chance to
fight because during the journey to the front he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brooke poem tell us about the good things of dying and even sounds perfect to died in a war and
Owen portrays the image of grotesque death in the field during the war. This difference is mainly
due to what poets experience. It is probable that if Brooke had experience war his poems could
have change of point of view.
The structure and the language both poems have very little similarities and many differences. One
similarity is the consistency of their rhyme scheme. Both poems have a regular rhyme scheme, this
is because… The language Owen s use in the poem is very informal and colloquial. For
example when he wrote Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots / of disappointment shells that
drop behind . The poem doesn t have a formal stanza laid out, the first stanza has eight verse and
the third only two verses. By not using ceremonial words and not having formal stanza laid out,
Owen try to point us again that the war is not elegant or has formal structure. Brooke poem is quite
different, he is language and the structure of the poem is very formal. This suggests that his way of
thinking of war is very formal and by some means without suffering.
Dulce et Decorum Est is full of similes and metaphors, For example, Bent double like old beggars,
under sacks/ knock kneed, coughing like hags or his hanging face, like devil s sick of sin the

Loss of Civilization After a plane crash carrying a group of young British school boys, they are

The Reading Process Analysis
Reading is believed to be an easy task, something we all learning and develop through the years as
we grow, however, is it really that simple? To reading and understanding are both essential when a
student begins to read. It is a complex action that requires a multitude of different actions
/components, all working at the same time, to become a successful reader. The components that are
pertinent to reading are: comprehension, oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, fluency
and vocabulary. Without these components, reading may very well be irrelevant because it does not
make sense to read and not understand what is being transmitted/relayed. According to the National
Reading Panel (NRP), a combination of techniques is effective for... Show more content on

That being said, comprehension is not just understanding the singular words that are being read, but
being able to put them together, along with activating previous knowledge, make sense and develop
meaning to the text. Essentially, when a reader is immersed and engaged in text, they are actively
developing meaning to the text while formulating questions that may later be answered by the text
itself.
Oral language is also an important component in reading. When a child enters school, they enter
with an amount of oral language and background knowledge that would come from their
experiences so far. This knowledge helps them to understand their peers and others around them.
The amount of oral language development within is student, directly reflects upon their reading
level. The easier it is for a child to speak, the easier it is for them to pick up reading. Reading is
not an easy task, but oral language does help with the process. Additionally, oral language would
also help with the recognizing and association of words to text that is being read. There may be a
situation in which the student is reading about for which they can relate too. This could be due to
their prior oral language development. Associating words that are recognized in their vocabulary
with words that are in the text creates a link that the student can expand on. This

Food Intake In Adolescents
Food Intake A poor diet containing high levels of fat or sugar and few nutrients can cause kids
to gain weight quickly (Sallis Glanz, 2006, pg. 100). Fast food, candy, and soft drinks are
common culprits. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that 32
percent of adolescent girls and 52 percent of adolescent boys in the United States drink 24
ounces of soda or more per day (School Health Guidelines, 2011). Convenience foods, such as
frozen dinners, salty snacks, and canned pastas, can also contribute to unhealthy weight gain
(Kuhl, Clifford, Bandstra, Filigna, Yeomans Maldonado, Rausch, Stark, 2014, pg. 96). Children
can become obese due to their parents lack of knowledge on how to properly prepare healthy
foods. Other families may not be able to easily afford or access fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats
(Stadler, Oettingen Gollwitzer, 2010, pg. 276) and foods priced lower often contain more salt and

Nuclear Weapons And Its Effect On The World
Many world leaders claim that nuclear weapons are vital to maintain a healthy balance of power.
They guarantee that nuclear weapons are hindrances that keep the world from aggregating war.
Analysts are supporting this contention by pronouncing how nuclear weapons have been
keeping peace. In any case, different specialists and researchers prevent the viability from
claiming nuclear weapons as hindrances and announce that nuclear weapons will prompt more
confusion. The issue is that amidst a world, as of now, loaded with war and turmoil, global
leaders keep on insisting that the world s supply of nuclear weapons is really a shield, an
advantage in keeping the world from complete turmoil. Nuclear weapons have vastly impacted the
world, starting from the use of the atomic bomb in World War II. Simply stated, nuclear weapons
are explosives that are manipulated by nuclear reactions. The improvement of nuclear weapons
took years of experimentation and research dating back to the 18th century. Numerous individuals
support nuclear weapons in light of their compelling capacity to serve as deterrents of war and
their capacity to safeguard parity, globally. The principle safeguard for nuclear weapons originates
from the thought that nuclear weapons are going about as deterrents. Various specialists have
concentrated on the adequacy of this capacity and depict how the rate of the world s populace lost
to war every year dropped significantly with the onset of atomic prevention. The

The Dangers Of Texting And Driving
Another solution that has been put into practice is the fact that texting and driving is illegal.
However, the restriction of using mobile devices while driving is currently only applied in 39
states (Simon). This makes it so that 11 states do not enact such legislation and therefore, this
solution does not work. Many of these states laws are generally not enforced due to the fact that
it is difficult to execute. Although it is illegal, the law has not stopped people from texting and
driving. Because punishments are not regularly recognized and are not strict enough, this
dangerous crime is often overlooked. The issue of texting and driving is often advertised in
campaigns on signs, the radio, or television. Although these advertisements encourage drivers
not to participate in this hazardous habit, they are just as disregarded as the law for restricted
cell phone use. These signs often do not appeal to the emotions of the audience in order to have
the effect they are looking for. The ads would be more effective if they brought in real life
experiences and showed the consequences that occur by texting and driving. The success of
these ads may increase if they showed a person in jail for murder from texting and driving or a
person who may have been paralyzed from being in an accident that may have been caused by
distracted driving. In these cases, the audience will see the physical effects that this problem causes
and will have a better chance of remembering the ad and

A Comparative Analysis of the Characters of King Lear and...
Kurosawa and Shakespeare Introduction: The greatest narratives in human history don t just
resurface in critical analysis but are also given new life when channeled through modern media.
This is well exemplified by legendary Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa s 1985 epic, Ran. The
highly regarded and high budgeted film, based on William Shakespeare s 1606 play King Lear,
demonstrates the power retained by the original play even when dramatically recontextualized.
Indeed, in a comparative discussion of King Lear and Hidetora, his counterpart in the Kurosawa
film, we are confronted with the universal themes of power, mortality, vanity and insanity. These
are the themes that connect not just both pieces but the otherwise vastly historical periods and
cultures represented within. Compare: The strongest point of comparison between the two
characters in question is their mutual descent into mental instability and the degree to which this
influences their behavior. Indeed, the common ground in the two stories is at the outset, when an
ailing ruler is manipulated into divided his kingdom amongst his children. This division of
territories, an event stimulated by individual vanity and infirmity, would have consequences
kingdom wide. The unraveling of civility and familial bonds which would occur thereafter is
common to both tellings. Contrast: Perhaps the most important conceptual difference between the
fading monarch presented in either story is the degree to which

Respect
You firstly have to have respect for yourself before you can earn respect of others, in saying this
you have to see yourself as someone worthy of respect. This quality of management includes
consideration for other people s privacy, their physical space and belongings. In the same light it
also includes respecting different viewpoints, philosophies, physical ability, beliefs and
personality. Regardless of the quality or standard of work of the employee, respect still has to be
shown and the corrective procedures should be followed where need be but negative criticism
should definitely not be tolerated.
From experience in my market existence I have gathered that i still have quite a bit of learning to

When I measure my emotional intelligence up to what it effectively should be then I can

My opinions on Deism are very mixed. I can see why it a solid option for people to think because, it
can seem like a more logical approach on life and is a belief that requires little faith. It is more of a
way of thinking than a way of living life, but also I can see a few cracks in their system. This
may sound a little absurd, but it seems like a cover of up somebody s interest in God that is not

any question of what occurred between them in their somewhat scandalous past, while exciting the
theme simultaneously. Although many themes are portrayed throughout the novel, the most
prominent is the concept of living in the past. There is nothing wrong with remembering the
good times, but living in the past leads to tragedy. In The Great Gatsby, characters pursue future
visions that are determined by their pasts. Gatsby suffers from past memories of Daisy and tries
to relive the relationship and in the process, Gatsby was murdered. In the key passage above it
states She wanted her life shaped now, immediately (line ) This quote explains that Daisy could no
longer wait for Gatsby to return, which is ironic considering many years later, Gatsby could not

Hence the results of this study can provide valuable insights and lead to a better understanding of
the perceptions of each of these two major groups towards creating an overall effectiveness
measurement to evaluate the CAIS Control System practices in a less developed country. This
study to the best of the researchers knowledge is the first that attempts to create an overall
effectiveness measurement for evaluating the CAIS Control System through specifying all required
components that should exist in the effective control system in the Jordanian banking sector.
Following consultations with experts in this field, a questionnaire was developed for the purpose
of this study to evaluate the general CAIS control procedures that would be applied to all CS,
which affect all computer applications in the organization. This questionnaire covers different parts
of CS in CAIS. This research attempts to answer the following questions: (1) What is the actual
practice in the Jordanian domestic banks regarding information CS? In addition, are these CS
adequate to protect the domestic banks against perceived security threats? (2) Are there significant
differences among the respondents in the research sample (Internal Auditors and HOCD) regarding

A Report on the Evacuation at Dunkirk
Beyond question, the evacuation at Dunkirk was the culmination of a major military disaster for
the British military, one of the worst it ever suffered in its history. Churchill also stated as much
on June 4, 1940, when he told the House of Commons that the defeat in France had been a
colossal military disaster (Source G). Only the fall of Singapore to the Japanese was a
comparable to the military disaster Britain suffered in France in 1940, and Churchill was well
aware of this. Nevertheless, it did not affect his determination to continue the war and to do
whatever was necessary to maintain the morale of the British military and civilian population. At
Dunkirk, the army had left behind all its tanks, vehicles and heavy weapons, while the Royal Air
Force (RAF) had suffered heavy losses in France and in its efforts to protect the evacuation
beaches. British losses would have been even greater had bad weather not hampered the Germans
or had Hitler unleashed the Panzers as his generals wanted. About the only victory Britain won
was on the propaganda side, by playing up the efforts of the small boats coming to the rescue even
though they played a relatively minor role and by affirming that the morale of the army and the
public had not been broken. Sources A, E and F. offer various contradictory recollections and
eyewitness reports about conditions on the beach and whether the bombing had a destructive effect.
These are all anecdotal evidence that reflect the opinions of

Ffa Reflection Paper
My mom sends me inspirational quotes when I am faced with a challenge in my life. In high
school I faced a challenge that I thought would mark the end of my career in FFA, or Future
Farmers of America. It was officer election time in my FFA chapter for my senior year and there
was a lot being thrown my way. Losing the people who I thought were my best friendswas the main
problem I faced after the election. I was the new chapter presidentand I was afraid of what was
going to happen with my friendships because of my position. I thought about quitting and running
the other way in order to avoid it all. I told my mom what was going on and she sent me this quote,

I walked out of class later that day and was confronted by the group of girls that I had called my
best friends. They told me that I didn t deserve the position and that I should just quit and save
myself from failing proving that I really didn t deserve the position. I did think about quitting, I
thought about it a lot actually because I was afraid my friends were right and that I would fail,
and I was also afraid of them, but then I went back and looked at the quote my mom sent me,
Forget Everything And Run, or Face Everything And Rise, at that point I didn t know what the
best thing to do would be. I talked to one of my Ag teachers about it after school that day and I
told him I didn t know what to do. He told me to face it head on, and that he would be right by
my side helping me face each obstacle that was thrown my way. When my friends found out I
wasn t going to give up and run away from the challenges I was faced with they started spreading
rumors about me and talking about how rigged the elections were if someone like me could ve
gotten president. I was hurt, and the more they talked bad about me the more I wanted to quit

sent me and I remembered all I had to do was face the challenges, rise above, and deal with them

Comparison Of Bambi And The Lion King
The camera migrates into the forest passing various creatures with big, bulging, brown eyes. The
fluffy irresistible fur of the rabbits begs to be stroked. The rabbits skip away laughing leaving the
grass blowing in the cool breeze. Then, the camera travels to the right where an owl plays tag with
a speedy mouse under the blue sky. Finally, the technology races towards the sky revealing heart
shaped clouds. Peaceful scenes such as the one just described constantly appear in Disney films
since Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. However, when depicting nature, should unrealistic
imagines occupy the screen? Consider a political film such as Bambi, when making such an
enormous statement regarding hunting, should the film illustrate nature accurately? How about
more recent movies such as The Lion King? Parents take their prized possessions, their children, to
see these shows. Children absorb their information and experiences around them like a sponge. In
addition, Disney and other films to this day are instrumental in a minor s childhood. Considering
the impact of the films, one would predict that two popular Disney films, Bambi and The Lion
King, would portray nature factually. Nonetheless, The Lion King and Bambi both depict nature
accurately.
Anthropomorphism. The attribution of human characteristics or behavior to an animal.
Anthropomorphism is used in both of the films being compared. Specifically, in Bambi, the artists
drew the animals with certain characteristics. As a

War and Modernism Poems During the Earky 1900 s Essay
During the tumultuous early 1900s, many poems were written on the horrors both heard of and
encountered first hand. Some poets, like William Butler Yeats, wrote about the horrors of
rebellion they encountered; others, like Wilfred Owen, were part of the dreadful World War I and
were urged by their memories to start writing ( Wilfred Owen ). Both were part of the modernist
movement, of which Yeats is often regarded as one of the founders. Modernismwas a movement that
outstretched literature and poetry, yet provided a new amount of freedom for war poets, as it
allowed them to express themselves in the modernist fashion of free forms and room for criticism
on the modern world (Matterson). William Butler Yeats

While the poem does rhyme, it was freely written in the way the poet felt was most fitting.
Secondly, this poem is fitting for the Modernist movement because it expresses what millions of
people might have felt after the soldiers started shooting each other and all hell broke loose: it
was the end of the world as they knew it. The part about the millions of people is important for
this point, because Modernists like Yeats desired to move away from the personal towards the
intellectual or collective. The poem criticizes the war by using cryptic images that are clear
enough to convey their true meaning: Yeats was shocked at what had happened to his world.
While Ireland was no part of the World War, the violent Easter Rising took place in 1916, when
Ireland tried to break free from the British domination ( The 1916 Easter Rising ). Yeats, a
Dubliner, was there to experience it himself. Wilfred Owen s Dulce et Decorum est , on the other
hand, did not paint a very poetic picture of the war; instead, it illustrates in a gruesome and to the
point manner how horrible it was, while still fitting in with the Modernist movement. This poem
tells in harsh words the story of young soldiers like Owen himself, who were stuck in the trenches
when they were attacked with poison gas. One of them was not as lucky as the others and could not
save himself in time. Nothing is left to the imagination in this poem. The image of the dying young
man, choking at

How Did Louis Pasteur Contribute To The Germ Theory Of...
Louis Pasteur was a French chemist and microbiologist. He studied microbes and disease
including vaccinations and how to kill pathogens. He is most famous for the pasteurization
process that quickly kills most of the disease producing pathogens in dairy and wine. His most
important work though was probably in the development of vaccines for rabies and anthrax. At the
time he was working people still didn t understand where disease came from or how bacteriaand
viruses multiplied. Many people believed in the theory of spontaneous generation, where microbes
sprang from nothing to infect wounds, food, or plants. Pasteur helped prove that disease was the
result of microscopic organisms, the germ theory of disease, and that life must spring from life.
Pasteur began working on the problem of bacterial contamination when a local wine merchant
approached him asking advice on how to keep his wine from souring. Pasteur s goal was to prove
that yeast, which produces lactic acid, caused the souring of both wine and milk. One experiment
he did was to prove that no fermentation of grape juice would happen if the grapes and the
containers they were kept in remained sterile through the experiment. He inserted ... Show more

Essay On Tinker Vs Des Moines
In the Tinker vs. Des Moines court case the judges decided for Tinker even though both
arguments from the lawyers where not well made. The judge s decision was made by who they
thought they should go for even though both sides had bad arguments and made a bigger deal of
this case than what it should really be. Tinker was fighting for the right of freedom of speech,
even though they were using their freedom of speech for a bad cause. They should have not have
used their freedom of speech against the rule of the school because they were going against
authority. They should have used it for the good of the school. Des Moines was fighting for their
right of authority, even though they were using that authority for a bad cause also. They should...

Truly, I don t know anything about this court but I did read the website of what happened but yet
somehow the Tinkers won in the court case mainly because the school did not lay any good
arguments on the table. The school started out with an understandable argument but then it just
went downhill from there because they did something totally wrong when they should have done
something better about it. Even though the Tinkers were doing wrong in suing the school but
they did that because the school kicked their kids out. The school should have just talked to the
parents about the situation and ask them politely to take the armbands off instead of just making
a rule about it and kicking them out. I think this court case had a really bad reason for being
made into a court case. Even though there was a reason they should have found a better one to
make a court case. In this court case we somehow argued for five to ten minutes with each
argument that the lawyers laid on the table. We then went out and voted for money to be given to
the Tinkers and to let them wear their armbands. So now the school should think of how they re
going to treat matters better instead of just kicking kids out for wearing an armband that says what
they think of the Vietnam War. So I think that armbands are allowed because they re armbands why

Comparing Poe And Hitchcock s Use Of Suspense
Poe and Hitchcock have published numerous stories and movies that follow the same guidelines.
Poe s poems and writings are very dark and mysterious, he draws you in with depression or
suspension that builds terror. Hitchcock is the same way, he develops terror through his movies
by building suspense to create a horror movie. Hitchcock and Poe developed their pieces with
suspense to build terror in similar and deferent ways by using literary devices and mise en scene.
Within Poe s writings he uses a vast amount of imagery to symbolize main concepts, as well as, to
explain what is happening in depth to the reader or audience. Hitchcock demonstrates the same
technique except he uses the lighting when making his films. In Poe s story The Masque... Show

This device develops suspense because the reader is unaware of the outcome or the possible
twist. Most people do not realize the foreshadowing done until the climax is relied. In The
House of Usher, Poe foreshadows the sister s , of the main characters, death is false through
numerous word plays. She was never dead, but un responsive, until finally she is alive and after
them. I did actually hear (laugh from what direction it proceeded I found it impossible to say) a
low and apparently distant, but harsh, protracted, and most unusual scream and granting sound
(Poe 22). This line from Poe, foreshadows that the sister will wake, and that she will be
overturned by the events that unraveled. By Poe foreshadowing her wake and revenge, he leaves
the reader analyzing the future, building the suspense for what may or may not happen, and this
suspense build terror within the story and the reader. Hitchcock does the same technique in his
film The Birds but instead he uses music within the film. In the movie, birds attack the town and
kill or injure the townspeople. During one scene at the school, the children keep singing a song
that has really long chorus that gets creepier and creepier as the keep singing. While they sing, the
film makers use jump cuts to show the school then how the birds keep collecting around the school
( The Birds). The music and cuts bind together to create suspense and horror because the audience
knows something horrific and terrible is going to

Editing In The Battle At Ambush Gulch
Fox News constantly shows and support Trump s remarks on Hispanic and Muslims and his
political views while other networks question his them. The media manipulates images, videos,
and messages in order to convey it according to the networks moral compass through a procedure
called editing. Editing is a vital part of the media, and an effective use of it in films can
convincingly persuade audience into believing the filmmaker s narrative of good and bad. The
Battle at Elderbush Gulch by D.W. Griffith and The Shirt by Shelly Niro edit their films
effectively to convey their story and messages. In The Battle of Elderbush Gulch, the Aboriginals
are depicted as the bad guys, while The Shirt shows the Aboriginal s side of the story by conveying

Given the fact that the film was made in 1913, it would be safe to assume that discrimination
and prejudice are still present against the Aboriginals. For example, the federal Department of
Indian Affairs did not do a good job of encouraging an interest in literature and the Aboriginals
did not get much out due to this. The film shows more of the arc of the protagonists showing
them move to their uncle s home where dogs are not allowed. Meanwhile, the Aboriginals nearby
are having some sort of ceremony. The way the film is edited at its beginning shows in great
detail how well mannered the girls are and how nice the people of the town are while the scenes
with the Aboriginals are shown in a way that the audience is not able to understand what the
Aboriginals are doing and what the ceremony is for because their scene is shortened when
compared to the scenes with the white people. Furthermore, the editing in the scenes leading up to
and including the murder of the Chief s son clearly portrays the Aboriginals as the villains. One of
the battle scenes, when the Aboriginals are surrounding the house the shot is taken from afar. This
scene is edited in such that the shot has a vignette which is concentrated at and around the house. It
shows the Aboriginals are killing all these white people but whatever is happening in the areas of
the shot that are black is open to speculation.

Technology And Cell Phones For Granted
Nowadays we take technology like internet and cell phones for granted. They allow us to operate
more efficiently and provide us with solutions to various issues. There was a time however
when cell phones and the internet did not exist and technology was not as evolved. A time when
fax machines were new and few in numbers due to its value and only the telephone was the
central means of communication. During the 1970 s, many or close to all businesses relied on
postal service for financial papers such as stocks, checks, and bonds. Back then most department
stores received 85% of their accounts receivable through the mail (Chesterton, 1970). At that
time, Richard Nixon was President and the congress had passed motions that would give
members of congress a 41% pay raise (3). Meanwhile they only gave postal employees a mere
4% raise. This would be the ultimate reason and trigger of the largest walkout ever on the federal
government in U.S history. In those times postal workers were not unionized and also strikes by
public employees were illegal. Regardless, just after midnight on March 18th 1970 the members
of the National Association of Letter Carriers also known as the NALC went on a wildcat strike.
The local Branch 36 had voted previously on March 17th and it resulted in 1,555 to 1,055 to walk
out the next day (Chesterton, 1970). James Rademacher, president of the NALC had urged his
workers to return to work. Postmaster General Winton Blount didn t have the power to end the

  • 2. Differences Of The North And South During The 1800s During the 1800s, life in America was very different depending on where, on the map, people were located, the North or the South. The North and the South were different in three ways, economically, politically, and, lastly, socially. Even through their differences, there were also a few simularites. To begin, the Northand South were different economically mainly because one, the North, was an Industrial economy, and the other, the South, was an Agricultural economy. Meaning, in the North, they mainly made their money through northern factories and inventions. Middle class workers would work up to twelve to fourteen hour shifts in factories to make a little income. The owners of these factories tended to make the most money while the Artisans,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the North, the owners of factories tended to be more wealthy. The more wealthier the person is, the more likely they could run in politics. These wealthy factory owners tended to hold the most political power because they were mainly looked up to in the northern society. People assumed that if they were rich they must be smart or important, making the rich perfect canidates to be politics. White people had some political power just because of their skin but, on the other hand, immigrants and free African Americans had little to no political power, meaning, their say was of no importance. In the South, the plantation owners, or people with more than five slaves, tended to hold the most political power. Slave owners lived in beautiful large homes and acted as though they were wealthy Europeans, attracting the attention of many. People in the South looked up to the wealthy, similar to the North. Their elegant homes and beautiful life threw these plantation owners right to the top of the political power. In the South, whites with no slaves had some political power but not nearly as much as the plantation owners did. People with no politcal power, would be the free African Americans and slaves. As made clear, the wealthy, in both the South and the North, held the most politcal power and usually took role as political ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Australian Gold Rush Research Paper History Essay: The Australian Gold Rush The Australian Gold Rush was often described as the making of a country. The Gold Rush was undeniably one of the most significant events in the history of Australia. In May 1851, the first grain of gold was discovered in Australia (Australian Government, 2015). This discovery led to the boom of Australia s economy. Prior to the discovery, Australia was a lawless unknown prison colony because of committed crimes from England. The Australian Gold Rush also brought in multiculturalism and population, it also created the wealth of Australia s economy of today. • 5. The Interlopers Thesis Thesis statement: The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin has a unique and intelligent concept, but is defeated by lack of story building and a rushed, badly constructed ending. The Interlopers by Saki has a much more basic premise, but uses natural storytelling elements to create seamless story progression and a more powerful message. Setting The Story of an Hour: The audience is keyed into the time period by mention of how popular newsstands are, the lack of cell phones, and the social restrictions within marriages that Mrs. Millard, the main character, describes. When Mrs. Millard s manic episode begins, she retires to an armchair by an open window, symbolic of her newfound inner freedom. This creates imagery for the audience and helps to ... Suspense The Story of an Hour: The first sentence sums up all that is wrong with suspense in this story, Knowing that Mrs. Mallard was afflicted with a heart trouble, great care was taken to break [...] the news of her husband s death. In The Interlopers, story pertaining details were introduced as scene setting, a subtle plot motivating technique this story abandons. The remaining suspense is developed entirely through Mrs. Millard s hyperactive imagination as she dreams of the future. Her euphoric visions are repeated, and repeated again. An uneasiness is created for the sole reason that most people know that sane people don t think this way. Ultimately, the lazy suspense building cheapens the ending and while successfully creates tension, dissolves itself by being overly obvious and unvaried. The Interlopers: Organic tension is built by atmosphere, dialogue, and subtle set up of the closing reveal, Ulrich had banded together his foresters to watch the dark forest, not in quest of four footed quarry, but to keep a lookout for the prowling thieves whom he suspected of being afoot from across the land boundary. Vegetation Mcs In The Edwards Plateau In the Edwards Plateau the estimated annual interception loss that is, the proportion of precipitation that never reaches mineral soil for a given site dominated by stoloniferous grass was 10.8% of annual precipitation, while a bunchgrass dominated site had an annual interception loss of 18.1%. Oak trees and the litter beneath the trees intercepted about 46% of annual precipitation (Thurow et al., 1987). This indicated that shifts in the kind or amount of vegetation affect interception. • 9. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Deficit Spending Deficit Spending and the Crowding Out Effect Andrew L. Petereck American Public University System Abstract Deficit spending applies to businesses, governments, and individuals alike. In relation to governments, deficit spending refers to spending more money than taking in over a given period (Investopedia, n.d.). Some Keynesian economists argue that deficits are a necessary evil needed to stimulate an economy. In theory, the deficitspending fills a gap in consumer spending during a recession by increasing government purchases to balance out the aggregate demand and stabilize the unemployment rate (Investopedia, n.d.). However, the downsides to deficit spending include possibly lowering GDP and increasing debt. Lastly, crowding out is known as the process where high government spending takes opportunities away from private sectors, hence the name crowding out (Investopedia, n.d.). This paper will explain some of the advantages and disadvantages to deficit spending while reviewing some of the effects of crowding out in an economy. Keywords: deficit spending, crowding out, Deficit Spending and the Crowding Out Effect The debate over the effectiveness of deficit spending has been ongoing for years and will continue to be debated for years to come. Keynesian economists argue deficit spending is necessary for the survival of an economy, claiming the economy would not recover fast enough without it. Other economists argue an economy shouldn t ... • 10. karate Essay Fighting Fighting, or kumite, is the freestyle use of moves one has learned. During this freestyle match, the students may use any technique they have learned in their training for either defensive or offensive purposes. Fighting is involved with probably only 30 % of skill the student has. However, this is a very important part of the whole. As mention earlier, katas help in perfecting the moves and the focus of executing them. On the other hand, fighting employs these moves. Practicing in fighting will assist in the timing and rhythm of the execution of the move. In a kata you have as long as you want to throw each kick, each block, each punch, and as much time to move into the next stance. During a fight, you must use these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of blocking all of these attacks, you can stop them. If you block the kick and follow up quickly with your own set of attacks this will surprise the opponent and interrupt his rhythm. The only way to get a good grasp on these ideas mentioned is to practice. The only way to become a good fighter is to practice fighting. I don t mean to go out on the streets and pick a fight with one person after another. Not only is that stupid it is also illegal. I mean to practice fighting in a controlled environment where both fighters have respect for one another. Fighters having respect for one another doesn t mean they are going to take it easy on each other , it means that if one is knocked to the ground the other isn t going to jump on top of him and continue beating the crap out of him or if a good punch or kick is thrown the fighter getting hit should acknowledge the attack and not get pissed off. The Tae Kwon Do style of fighting is different than many other styles of martial arts fighting. Tae kwon do could best be described as street fighting. It is mainly composed of kicks punches and blocks, however there are a few take downs and throws. When a throw or take down is executed in TKD, one or two attacks are executed at the downed opponent, after that the attacker backs away. This is because TKD is not wrestling or rolling around on the ground throwing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While Upton Sinclair originally intended to appeal to the public s heart concerning the conditions and the treatment of workers, it was obvious that the book had more of an impact on the meat industry. The public was outraged by the stories of waste meat being canned as wholesome meat, workers falling into vats and being processed as lard, and dead animals being processed when the inspectors weren t looking. Upton was quoted in saying, I aimed at the public s heart, and by accident I hit it in the stomach (Kantor 1976). The impact that this fictitious novel had, can still be seen today. Many people felt that the trials were unfair and that the Beef Trust had its hands in the politics that lead to the false innocence of the packing industries (Yeager 1906). In 1902, Dr. Harvey Wiley created the Division of chemistry, also known as the Poison Squad. This Division of Chemistry analyzed products that were created by the packing companies. They looked for any kind of dyes, preservatives, or adulterants that may have been added to the meats. The Division of Chemistry found, in the numerous products sampled, that the meat was wholesome and contained no adulterants, dyes, or any preservatives other than the types and amounts that were allowed. They also inspected meat packing plants to find that the sanitation was acceptable in almost all cases (Young 1908). The book gave examples of potted ham, which was said to be the waste of beef or pork. The pieces of meat were too small for any other product so they were gathered together and made into its own product. Some of the parts included tripe, which were supposedly dyed so that they would not appear white. Harvey Wiley at first was very pessimistic about this potted meat. Upon analyzing the product, he found that the meat was indeed wholesome and free of dyes or adulterants (Young 1908). In 1906, the Pure Food and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This doctrine has a fascinating history beginning on June 13, 1888, when the Court of Appeals decided three cases involving this privilege on the same day. One case involved statements made by an attorney in the course of judicial proceedings, Maulsby v. Reifsnider, 69 Md. 143 (1888), another involved statements by a witness providing testimony, Hunckel v. Voneiff, 69 Md. 179 (1888), and the final involved statements made by party litigants in a case, Bartlett v. Christhilf, 69 Md. 219 (1888). The theme that emerged from these three cases is that when a witness is providing testimony to the court, that witness should be answerable only to the court, and not to third parties, for untrue statements by means of the power find someone guilty of perjury. Under these three cases, then, it would appear that the privilege would only apply to statements made under the penalty of perjury. Grade 350 steel In general, the strength of a steel is controlled by its microstructure which changes according to its chemical composition, its thermal background and the deformation processes it undergoes during its production schedule. Hence, different steels will have different strengths and most nations measure its strengths by a national standard. According to engineers Australia, Australia grades their steel according to their yield strength, thus the value of applied stress at which permanent deformation occurs, in smooth lab specimen. (Engineering austraila,2008 ).So, a grade 350 means yield strength of 350 Mpa. • 34. Nuclear Weapons And Its Effect On The World Many world leaders claim that nuclear weapons are vital to maintain a healthy balance of power. They guarantee that nuclear weapons are hindrances that keep the world from aggregating war. Analysts are supporting this contention by pronouncing how nuclear weapons have been keeping peace. In any case, different specialists and researchers prevent the viability from claiming nuclear weapons as hindrances and announce that nuclear weapons will prompt more confusion. The issue is that amidst a world, as of now, loaded with war and turmoil, global leaders keep on insisting that the world s supply of nuclear weapons is really a shield, an advantage in keeping the world from complete turmoil. Nuclear weapons have vastly impacted the world, starting from the use of the atomic bomb in World War II. Simply stated, nuclear weapons are explosives that are manipulated by nuclear reactions. The improvement of nuclear weapons took years of experimentation and research dating back to the 18th century. Numerous individuals support nuclear weapons in light of their compelling capacity to serve as deterrents of war and their capacity to safeguard parity, globally. The principle safeguard for nuclear weapons originates from the thought that nuclear weapons are going about as deterrents. Various specialists have concentrated on the adequacy of this capacity and depict how the rate of the world s populace lost to war every year dropped significantly with the onset of atomic prevention. • 35. The Dangers Of Texting And Driving Another solution that has been put into practice is the fact that texting and driving is illegal. However, the restriction of using mobile devices while driving is currently only applied in 39 states (Simon). This makes it so that 11 states do not enact such legislation and therefore, this solution does not work. Many of these states laws are generally not enforced due to the fact that it is difficult to execute. Although it is illegal, the law has not stopped people from texting and driving. Because punishments are not regularly recognized and are not strict enough, this dangerous crime is often overlooked. The issue of texting and driving is often advertised in campaigns on signs, the radio, or television. Although these advertisements encourage drivers not to participate in this hazardous habit, they are just as disregarded as the law for restricted cell phone use. These signs often do not appeal to the emotions of the audience in order to have the effect they are looking for. The ads would be more effective if they brought in real life experiences and showed the consequences that occur by texting and driving. The success of these ads may increase if they showed a person in jail for murder from texting and driving or a person who may have been paralyzed from being in an accident that may have been caused by distracted driving. In these cases, the audience will see the physical effects that this problem causes and will have a better chance of remembering the ad and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. A Comparative Analysis of the Characters of King Lear and... Kurosawa and Shakespeare Introduction: The greatest narratives in human history don t just resurface in critical analysis but are also given new life when channeled through modern media. This is well exemplified by legendary Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa s 1985 epic, Ran. The highly regarded and high budgeted film, based on William Shakespeare s 1606 play King Lear, demonstrates the power retained by the original play even when dramatically recontextualized. Indeed, in a comparative discussion of King Lear and Hidetora, his counterpart in the Kurosawa film, we are confronted with the universal themes of power, mortality, vanity and insanity. These are the themes that connect not just both pieces but the otherwise vastly historical periods and cultures represented within. Compare: The strongest point of comparison between the two characters in question is their mutual descent into mental instability and the degree to which this influences their behavior. Indeed, the common ground in the two stories is at the outset, when an ailing ruler is manipulated into divided his kingdom amongst his children. This division of territories, an event stimulated by individual vanity and infirmity, would have consequences kingdom wide. The unraveling of civility and familial bonds which would occur thereafter is common to both tellings. Contrast: Perhaps the most important conceptual difference between the fading monarch presented in either story is the degree to which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scott Fitzgerald is a flashback, it is crucial to recognize the relevance between this passage and the plot of the book. Looking closer at the passage, it is apparent that Fitzgerald uses characterization and theme to relate this section back to the plot. The characterization of Gatsby and Daisy eliminates any question of what occurred between them in their somewhat scandalous past, while exciting the theme simultaneously. Although many themes are portrayed throughout the novel, the most prominent is the concept of living in the past. There is nothing wrong with remembering the good times, but living in the past leads to tragedy. In The Great Gatsby, characters pursue future visions that are determined by their pasts. Gatsby suffers from past memories of Daisy and tries to relive the relationship and in the process, Gatsby was murdered. A Report on the Evacuation at Dunkirk Beyond question, the evacuation at Dunkirk was the culmination of a major military disaster for the British military, one of the worst it ever suffered in its history. Churchill also stated as much on June 4, 1940, when he told the House of Commons that the defeat in France had been a colossal military disaster (Source G). Only the fall of Singapore to the Japanese was a comparable to the military disaster Britain suffered in France in 1940, and Churchill was well aware of this. Nevertheless, it did not affect his determination to continue the war and to do whatever was necessary to maintain the morale of the British military and civilian population. At Dunkirk, the army had left behind all its tanks, vehicles and heavy weapons, while the Royal Air Force (RAF) had suffered heavy losses in France and in its efforts to protect the evacuation beaches. British losses would have been even greater had bad weather not hampered the Germans or had Hitler unleashed the Panzers as his generals wanted. About the only victory Britain won was on the propaganda side, by playing up the efforts of the small boats coming to the rescue even though they played a relatively minor role and by affirming that the morale of the army and the public had not been broken. • 50. War and Modernism Poems During the Earky 1900 s Essay During the tumultuous early 1900s, many poems were written on the horrors both heard of and encountered first hand. Some poets, like William Butler Yeats, wrote about the horrors of rebellion they encountered; others, like Wilfred Owen, were part of the dreadful World War I and were urged by their memories to start writing ( Wilfred Owen ). Both were part of the modernist movement, of which Yeats is often regarded as one of the founders. Secondly, this poem is fitting for the Modernist movement because it expresses what millions of people might have felt after the soldiers started shooting each other and all hell broke loose: it was the end of the world as they knew it. The part about the millions of people is important for this point, because Modernists like Yeats desired to move away from the personal towards the intellectual or collective. The poem criticizes the war by using cryptic images that are clear enough to convey their true meaning: Yeats was shocked at what had happened to his world. While Ireland was no part of the World War, the violent Easter Rising took place in 1916, when Ireland tried to break free from the British domination ( The 1916 Easter Rising ). Yeats, a Dubliner, was there to experience it himself. Wilfred Owen s Dulce et Decorum est , on the other hand, did not paint a very poetic picture of the war; instead, it illustrates in a gruesome and to the point manner how horrible it was, while still fitting in with the Modernist movement. This poem tells in harsh words the story of young soldiers like Owen himself, who were stuck in the trenches when they were attacked with poison gas. One of them was not as lucky as the others and could not save himself in time. Nothing is left to the imagination in this poem. The image of the dying young man, choking at ... His most important work though was probably in the development of vaccines for rabies and anthrax. At the time he was working people still didn t understand where disease came from or how bacteriaand viruses multiplied. Many people believed in the theory of spontaneous generation, where microbes sprang from nothing to infect wounds, food, or plants. Pasteur helped prove that disease was the result of microscopic organisms, the germ theory of disease, and that life must spring from life. Pasteur began working on the problem of bacterial contamination when a local wine merchant approached him asking advice on how to keep his wine from souring. Pasteur s goal was to prove that yeast, which produces lactic acid, caused the souring of both wine and milk.
