Preindustrial Society Compared To Today
Week one
Life in preindustrial society was very similar to today
During the 18th and 19th centuries, there were significant changes to lifestyles due to the industrial
revolution. This event allowed us to modernise and build the world we are living in today. Yet life
before the industrial revolution compared to today s society cannot be stated similar. In the modern
society, people rely on mechanisations and machinery for living, however, before the 1750,
everything was mostly done manually as countries had not yet adopted machines. This caused a
significant changes in lifestyles from the preindustrial times to the modern world.
The industrial revolution was a global turning point socially, economically and environmentally.

Disadvantages Of Surfers Paradise
Surfers Paradise is a Coastal area on the Gold Coast south of Brisbane, with a population of
19,688 (2015 ABS). Surfers Paradise is a small suburb that is well known as one of the most
renowned party districts in Australia. The facilities which are positioned in Surfers Paradise are
largely made for tourists, who want to visit the sun and the beach, or who want to come to an area
with various party facilities, for example nightclubs. Industry wise, there are many hotels and
casinos that can be utilised for tourist s holidays. There are also various restaurants and cafГ© s
which explore many different cultures, and provide a wide selection of food, furthering the industry
for tourism.
Surfers Paradise is constantly undergoing renovations in order to modernise the Gold Coast and
make it desirable to live or come to stay on the Gold Coast, but during the renovations are taking
place, which is basically a constant, the area is not the ideal place to stay or live in. Surfers
Paradise does have various first class facilities for people to stay in, but there is constantly
construction being done, which can repel business for companies and business that rely on a
constant tourist flow. Local businesses are not the only people to suffer from the noise of
construction and parties and unscrupulous aesthetics of the buildings, as the tourists who are on the
Gold Coast peg the area as not a good holiday destination. With the wild people as well as the
construction, Surfers Paradise can

Caffeine Overdose Research Paper
How To Overcome Caffeine Overdose In 12 Days
Caffeine overdose is so common in our midst. Caffeine is not only found in coffee and tea but in
other food and drink products such as energy drinks.
If you are really tired of starting, continuing, and ending your day with a cup of coffee or tea, then
this natural caffeine detox remedy is for you.
Is caffeine bad for us?
We do hear often how people, the news media, and whole food marketers emphasize on the side
effects of caffeine. We tend to believe that it is all that bad.
Caffeine does some good things such as lowering the risk of gallstones, parkinson s disease,
inducing bowel movement and decreasing the possibility of colon cancer.
Caffeine overdose effects
However it has its bad effects when we take too much of it. Some of the effects include sleep
deprivation, rise in level of blood pressure, and increased chances of infertility. These effects can
be very serious so there is a need to prevent them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A quantity of 350mg or 3 4 cups becomes toxic to the body. That is considered as caffeine
overdose and it can be dangerous to our health. It s permissible to stay within the limit.
However this situation can be aggravated by combining smoking with coffee drinking.
Others go to a different dimension entirely. After drinking cola, tea or coffee, they take a cigarette
break or place some tobacco in their mouth. By the end of the day they top it up with alcoholic
drinks. This may call for multiple detox programs. For now, we will concentrate on caffeine users
only.
Where does the caffeine drive come from?
Adenosine is a natural substance in our body which is sent to the brain to calm down some nerve
cells that are too active. Unfortunately when caffeine enters the body, it tries to pass through the
same channel the adenosine uses to calm the

Essay about Freedom
Freedom Freedom is never more than one generation from extinction. These are the words of
Ronald Reagan, former President of the United States of America, speaking on the topic of
freedom, a subject he frequently dealt with during his long presidency. Over the years, freedom in
the U.S. has become an increasingly controversial topic, and the effectiveness of the government in
affording these freedoms has been called into question. Through certain historical documents and
events, the government s effectiveness at ensuring freedoms for all can be confirmed. The
occurrences of several major events in the history of America eventually gave all blacks equal
rights and fostered a culture of change in American society. The Emancipation... Show more content

Additionally, approximately a century later, bigotry received its final, most important, blow when
the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed. The act was one of the most important pieces of
legislation in American history, outlawing discrimination of not only blacks, but women, in terms
of voting, public education, and workplaces. The passing of this act was a catalyst for social
reform, and racial and sexual acceptance. Although delayed and incredibly late, Lincoln and the
United States government eventually granted and ensured all American citizens the same freedoms
that still exist in the country today. A prime example of the freedom afforded to citizens can be
seen through the exploits of the immensely controversial Westboro Baptist Church. The church,
according to the Anti Defamation League, is a small virulently homophobic, anti Semitic hate
group that regularly stages protests around the country (Extremism in America 1). According to
Bill Mears with CNN, the church, which has long been a source of controversy, was recently
sued for inflicting emotional distress upon a family as a result of protesting at the funeral of a
dead marine. However, despite a powerful statement by Chief Justice John Roberts in which he
claimed that speech is powerful and that it can inflict great pain, he also said that we cannot react
to that pain by punishing the speaker (Mears 1).

Elvis Presley s Hound Dog
Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller wrote one of the greatest hits of all times.
This soulful beat, legend song Hound Dog, has had many covers as the years have past. The first
date recorded was August 13, 1952. Hound Dog, is classified in the classic blues in 1952 and
Willie Mae Thornton was the first to press this through the recording studio. This song hit the blues
genre of music in the early 1950 s, and later doubled into rhythm and blues before taking off onto
rock and roll with Elvis Presley. Fans raved as Elvis moved to the beat of Hound Dog and moved
soulfully to the rhythm as Jimi Hendrix pumped out the melody.
The version of Hound Dog by Willie Mae Thornton, was very soul worthy. After listening to Willie

The inspiration has also touched more than just these three artists to produce and record Jerry
Leiber s Hound Dog. There is no bad or better cover for Hound Dog but, in my opinion I have
enjoyed Elvis Presley s cover of Hound Dog the most because it is uplifting and brings a
charming spice into my soul. His cheer and smile as he gave all he had to present Hound Dog to
the audience wins my heart. I have a love as well for rhythm and blues. Willie Mae and Jimi
Hendrix are talented artists, but do not win my top vote because this song and lyrics are about a
spicy woman who is fired up and is throwing out of her life the undesirable things. The man in
her life she is fed up with and ready to move on. I feel that Willie Mae Thornton and Jimi
Hendrix covers are full of emotions that cause you to feel lament and soul quenching pain. The
woman in the story I do not feel is experiencing lost pain or guilt. I love the spice that Elvis
Presley throws at

Principle Component Analysis ( Pca )
PCA model Principle component analysis (PCA) is often used to reduce the dimensionality of a
data set, and the reduced data can then explain most of the variance within the original data
(Guo, Wang Louie, 2004). The main function of the PCA is to convert a number of interrelated
variables into a smaller set of independent variables. The new independent variables which are
called principal components (PCs). They are the linear combinations of the original variables
(Jackson J.E., 2005). The PCA model can be expressed as (Miller et al., 2002):
Z_ik=∑_(j=1)^pв
–’гЂ–G_ij H_jk гЂ— i=1,2,...,m;k=1,2,...,n (1) Where: G_ij= the correlation of
compound i with factor j H_jk= the relative impact of jth factor for the total contaminant of the kth

Standardization of the original data before the PCA can help us better understand how the
variables influence the analysis (Thurston Spengler, 1985). Before applying the standardized
data to the PCA, the outliers should be excluded. A sensitivity analysis should be done to
determine the outliers which should be removed. The suspected outliers should be removed
from the data set one at a time until the PCA reaches a stable result and the further exclusion of
the samples has very little effect on the PCA results (Swietlicki et al., 1996). Outputs The output
of the PCA based on Matlab includes the following: coeff file, score file, latent file, tsquared file,
and the explained file. The coeff file is a matrix of the principal component coefficients, or we can
call them loadings. If the input matrix is n by p, then the coefficient matrix should be p by p. The
columns of the coefficient matrix represent the principal components, and the columns are placed
in descending order according to the component variance. The score file gives us a matrix of the
principal component score which represents the input matrix in the new principal component space.
The score file represents the projection of the

To prevent and control an infection, we as healthcare providers; nursing homes staff have to break
the cycle of infection by putting proper practices in place. A part of the cycle is the reservoir where
the infectious agent lives. Common reservoirs where infectious agents exist can be non living
objects like a toilet seat, or a door knob, or an alive reservoir, like an animal or the human body.
Another part of the infection cycle is how the agent was transmitted? Was it transmitted by direct
contact with human, animal or environmental reservoir? Or was it transmitted indirectly with food,
insects, medical equipment? Nursing homes must require staff to wash their hands after each direct
resident contact for which hand washingis designated

Exploring The Anglo-Saxon Hero
What is a hero? Perhaps it should be rephrased: who is a hero? Of course, it now becomes easy to
answer we can say Odysseus, as he didn t just assist in the victory at Troy, but fought the gods
with his longing for his home; or Beowulf, who fought of the terrible monsters in Hrothgar s
kingdom as well as his own; or Byrhtnoth, who died while defending the land he loved. Clearly, it
is easy to list off the heroes in these ancient poems. However, why is this so, why can we so easily
identify heroes without consciously recognizing the clues that lead us to those conclusions? While
this question may remain unanswerable without understanding psychology, it is still possible to
understand what makes a hero tick his set of features... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
143). By telling Wiglaf to bring the treasure to him, Beowulf is showing the audience that despite
his imminent departure from the mortal world, he still possesses a greed for treasure. While some
argue that Beowulf is merely trying to understand the fate of his kingdom based on its newfound
wealth, the desire for treasure is nonetheless childish telltale signs of selfish attributes in Beowulf s
character. The story of the Volsung family contains the tale of Sigmund in The Saga of the
Volsungs. Sigmund is also a mythological character, due to his immediate relation to the mythical
Volsung family, just like Beowulf. His actions, such as becoming a wolf (just like Beowulf) with
his incestuous son Sinfjotli in the forest, embarking on an adventure to fight hunters, are clearly
impossible without the mythological or legendary setting. For this reason, we classify Sigmund as
being mythological, since he could not have been real, at least based this description.
Similar to Beowulf, audiences can observe crucial, dark characteristics of Sigmund that distinguish
him. His legendary feats are just that legendary. However, they also possess negative qualities. In
the previous example of how Sigmund and Sinfjotli put the skins on (The Saga of the Volsungs, p.
44), Sigmund does not just run about the forest happily, he and Sinfjotli terrorize hunters by
competing to kill more

The Legality Of Abortion In The United States
This paper will explore the opinions of older and younger American adults regarding abortion.
Abortion has long been a topic of strong debate and gray areas. There are many laws put into place
stipulating aspects of the legality of abortion. It is often assumed that those of the younger
generation identify as pro choice, meaning they agree with the legality of abortion. On the other end
of the spectrum, it is speculated that older adults lean more toward being pro life, meaning they
do not agree with the legality of abortion. I predict that older adults (40 years of age and older) will
identify as pro life more than younger adults (18 25). I will analyze previous research that has been
done, as well as interpret surveys conducted by myself.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

this point in time, 60% of abortions are obtained by women in their twenties. 75% of all

Impressionism began in the mid 1800 s while Paris was the artistic capital of Europe. While
Impressionism was rejected by the Salon de Paris, numerous artists grouped together so they could

Michael Lambek s Toward An Ethics Of The Act
In Michael Lambek s Toward an Ethics of the Act, Lambek discusses the ethics of performance and
practice rituals through perlocution and illocution. Anthony Gidden s talks about the duality of
agency (action) and structure and argues that that s two cannot exist without each other. These two
compare and contrast in analyzing social actions. In Toward an Ethics of the Act, Lambek uses the
speeches that are also know as performatives that utter a performance is to do something .
Illocution and perlocution are two of the performatives of speech that Lambek discusses in his work
that are derived from J.L. Austin s philosophy. According to Lambek, Illocution is doing something
in saying something . Perlocution on the other hand, is doing something by saying something .
Lambek uses the terms felicitous and infelicitous from Austin s philosophy to define the illocution
and perlocution of an act. In other words, felicitous is good or fortunate and infelicitous is bad or...

Gidden s argues that agency and structure cannot exist without each other. Agency is the
individual s ability to make free choices in society. These choices that they make are not guided by
anything but their own desires, needs and wishes to fulfill. The concept of the agency is free will
and the ability of an individual to make decisions in their world that they want to make as an
individual choice. Another way Giddens sees agency is that it is not a combination of separate acts,
but a continuous flow of conduct . Structure on the other hand, is social forces that exist outside of
the individual thoughts that influence the decisions that people make. The structure has a bigger
influence on the individual than the individual can on the structure of society. The structure has a

These verses show that Macklemore is not afraid to show that he is man who buys his clothes
on a budget and preferences to save money by buying second apperal. Another example of
repeating verses that to make clear to listeners that Macklemore s song is a ballad to celebrate
looking good on less, is the repeated verse I m in this big ass coat, big ass coat from that thrift
shop down the road, which puts forth that the artist is satisfied that he in the way that he looks
in his cheap, second hand clothing and wants people to know that and he wants to flaunt it. By
repeating this verse and others, Macklemore is telling his audience that he doesn t care about
how cheap his clothes are because his feels good and is saving is hard earned cash. After a
person listens to Macklemore s song, listeners get a clear message that Macklemore take delight
in looking great while spending very little by repeating these and others verses in his hit song.
Usually the main point of a music video is to help tie into the message of the song and give
listeners a clearer perspective of what the artist is trying to convey, and that is true with the music

While President Obama is hard at work reviving the economy, a rookie in the MLB is earning

Post Colonialism Essay
Introduction Post colonialism is a period of time following colonialism, and postcolonial literature
is typically characterized by its opposition to the colonial. Postcolonial literature often targets on
race relations and the outcome of racism along with generally implies white and/or colonial
societies. Simon During, in his essay discussing the nature and boundaries of post colonialism,
argues for a more inclusive definition, calling it the need, in nations, or groups which have been
victims of imperialism to achieve an identity uncontaminated by universalist or Eurocentric
concepts or images. Works of literature that are defined as postcolonial often record racismor a
history of genocide including slavery, apartheid, and the mass extinction of people, such as the
Aborigines in Australia. Post colonialism includes a vast array of writers and subjects. In fact, the
very different geographical, historical, social, religious, and economic concerns of the different ex
colonies dictate a wide variety in the nature and subject of most postcolonial writings. In this regard
some women colonial writers sketch a relationship among post colonialism... Show more content on

Are Nuclear Fusion Good Or Bad
To understand how and why nuclear weapons cause so much disaster and pain, it is first necessary
to understand how they work. There are two types of nuclear bomb: fission and fusion. What is
fission? Well, everything in the world is made up of atoms. Atoms are made up of a nucleus, which
consists of a ball of protons and neutrons, and electrons, which orbit the nucleus. Fission is the
process by which atoms are hit with neutrons and split into lighter atoms. In this process, the huge
amount of binding energy which holds the protons and neutrons of the nucleus together is released,
and pieces of the nucleus fly apart with enormous energy called radioactivity. This energy is turned
into heat, which vaporizes all nearby material. When the inventors realized how frighteningly
powerful their discovery could... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anyhow, using their new knowledge of fission, scientists set to work and created a fission bomb. In
the fission bomb, neutrons are purposefully given energy. They naturally collide with atoms, which
fission, or split apart, and release two or three more neutrons and a lot of energy. These extra
neutrons run into other atoms, causing them to fission and repeat the process. This starts a chain
reaction. Every time the number of fissions doubles, it is called a generation. When the number of
neutrons produced in one generation of fissions equals the fissions in the next, critical mass is
attained. Because some neutrons are lost or absorbed, the chain reaction can only be maintained
when there is critical mass. A frightening fact about the fission bomb is that each new generation
has as much energy in it as all the generations before it put together. Thus, every moment after the
chain reaction has started, the bomb becomes twice as dangerous as the moment before. Although
they are operated differently, uranium and plutonium bombs both use

this manner doesn t allow for a cohesive sales team, which is going to be critical for the new team

Life presents questions to every person that experiences it. Many of these question will forever
remain unanswered. The social and psychological problems and questions that life throws at it
attendants are stressed by one of the mid to late 1800 s best problem play authors, Henrik Ibsen.
Ibsen spend most of his writing career exploring the human mind. He had a passion for the truth,
and due to this he conveyed his thoughts through writing. His time period offered many scenarios
for him to write about which still apply to today s society. One of these scenarios is the societal
roles that given to people. Ibsen stressed the importance of societal and gender roles in his ... Show

People, p. 30).The majority follows what Peter has to say, seeing as how society has placed him
in a leadership role. The minority follow the doctor. Now, both aspects of the conflict are in full
blast. Society is forcing these brothers to work against each other, ironically for one main shared
purpose. Both of these stories show the affect that society has on communities and individuals,
alike. The need for specific people, such as Torvald and the Stockman brothers, to be what society
wants them to be creates conflicts that are larger than themselves. It creates problems with others.
This is the result of human doing what they do best, make mistakes. The human race evolves over
time, both mentally and physically. With these changes come new responsibilities and decisions.
When people fail to fulfill their responsibilities, conflicts arise. That is seen in these stories. This is
a similar pattern as that of the gender role throughout history. Women were seen as the more
submissive gender. This is because human beings made it this way. All of these conflicts and
problems that are still to this day present are because of humans. As a race, humans create
problems between each other because they feel some sort of unearned privilege to be better than
others. Henrik Ibsen understood this concept; he loved to explore the minds of humans. That is
what made his writing so

Common Sense Understanding of Crime ? Criminology may be defined as the scientific
commitment to the gathering of fact (Walkate,2003) or as defined by the Collins dictionary as the

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Essay
It is hypothesized that when the subject implements the mindfulness intervention she will
experience less rumination. In other words, by improving the participant s self care routine we will
also improve her SWB.
Mindfulness therapy falls under the umbrella of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is an
evidenced based treatment that was derived as a way to treat individuals who are at risk for
emotional dysregulation on a more long term basis (Craighead, 2016). Mindfulness includes
education about the client s illness, meditation techniques and drawing a connection between
specific thoughts and feelings. This is all done in an effort to teach individuals to more routinely
notice their thoughts and avoid rumination and negative thinking patterns that can lead to feelings
of negative self worth, guilt and excessive self criticism (Williams Kuyken, 2012). According to
research from six randomized controlled trials with a total of 593 participants Mindfulness Based
Cognitive Behavioral therapy was shown to reduce relapses of depression in 44% (Williams
Kuyken, 2012).
Rumination is considered a negative attentional focus on the origin and ramifications of emotions
which lasts for an extended amount of time ( Nolen Hoeksema, 1991). Rumination is often
correlated with symptom of depression and anxiety. Specifically, rumination is operationalized as
repetitive and intrusive thoughts about a previous personal experience. The rumination period can

At first, it would be easy to assume that it was a cross sectional research because the article said
that it was over a 48 hour period. After reading more into the article, I believe that they used the
longitudinal research design. To begin, a longitudinal study is where someone takes a group of
people of the same age range and studies them over the course of several years or more. All the
children tested were initially monitored prenatally and later on in life at age five, before they
started school. For it to have been considered a cross sectional study, the researchers would have
used a variety of people from all different age ranges in a much shorter timeframe of a few weeks
or months.
In the beginning, the research started with 249 children, but later when they did the IQ testing there
was only a total of 150 children and that even included other children from outside the initial study
group. So the question begs, how many of the 150 were from the initial group? Without the actual

would go against what the researchers were trying to prove, therefore the researcher also

Compare and contrast the Frankenstein novel and...
Mary Shelley and Samuel Taylor Coleridge are two established writers of the Romantic era. Works
by both writers are unique in many ways. The profound influence of Coleridge s The Rime of the
Ancyent Marinere is reflected in Shelly s Frankenstein in terms of narrative structure, themes and
literary techniques. This essay will compare and contrast the Frankenstein extract and the poem,
The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere in three aspects, namely the narrating voice, the themes and the
literary techniques used.
In the Frankenstein passage, Victor s creation, the creature, is the narrator. Here, a framed narrative
is presented by the creature to allow his side of the story to be heard as he attempts to gain self
definition and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The creature begins as an innocent and lonely being who longs for love and compassion but
realizes that he will never be accepted by the community because of his abomination. He was first
abandoned by Victor, leaving him to fend for himself and later rejected again and again by the
community with anger, hatred and violence. Shelly uses this theme to reflect the shallowness of
society where social prejudice is founded on appearances and stress the idea of society s injustice
towards abnormalities. It can be understood that the monstrosity in the creature is a social product.
On the other hand, the mariner experiences solitude as part of his punishment for his sin. His
experience came about as a result of his impulsive act of killing the albatross. Unlike the creature
who has been unjustly subjected to isolation without a choice, the mariner has a choice. He could
have chosen not to kill the bird. In a way, his solitude is self induced.
With solitude comes sufferings and that leads us to another common theme of sufferings and
impact. In the extract, the creature laments that his sufferings came from the ill treatment he
received from human beings. His sufferings left a negative impact on his innocent soul as his hatred
for his creator and his species grew from this injustice which ultimately led him to murder the lovely
and the helpless...strangle the innocent...grasp to death his throat... (prose

what chronic pain means by providing the foremost chronic pain encountered in life such as low
back, joints, or other kinds. Next, this paper will cover why it is important to address conditions
related to chronic pain, and will explore methods and strategies showing how to cope with

Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Euro
The European Union is not perfect. It has its own weaknesses and faults as well. Therefore, now
I would like to write a short description about the mistakes of the monetary union. Then I put a
question to all of us if the Eurozone, and especially the Euro, need to be reformed after the last
years experiences. Finally at the end of this subsection I briefly summarize the negative effects of
the crisis on the EU as a single currency area.
First of all, there is some structural mistake which should be corrected. For instance, there were a
lot of real estate price bubbles and credit bubbles among the countries in the periphery of the Union
because of cheap credits. The Eurozone had no proper institutional background to predict the

Additionally, in connection with this topic, I would like to bring up the example of Sweden just
in very briefly. Sweden has had the opportunity to adopt the Euro since 2006 but they have not
introduced it yet. Their government supports the idea of that the main and last judgement should
be done by the population but they are waiting for the proper time for the referendum. This kind
of behaviour could be experienced in Hungary too, probably in order to profit from the process as
much as we could. Therefore, the next question is: What if this behaviour could make negative
effects on other countries, for example on Hungary, and influence them towards denying the Euro?
However, we can see on Figure 14 that most of the people in Hungary want to introduce the single
currency according to that opinion poll. Hence, it seems that temporarily we do not want to follow
the way of the northern country. In addition, recently Sweden does [also] not have a target date to
adopt the euro just like Hungary. Anyway, our government has a lot to do (e.g. implementing all the
convergence criteria) up to that time we could think about this decision whether the best solution is

Karl Popper Science As Falsification Summary
In Karl Popper s paper Science as Falsification , he attempted to explain what exactly separates
hard science from pseudoscience. He came to the conclusion that all theories which are to be
deemed scientific must be falsifiable. In other words, the theory must have the ability to be tested
and proven to be true, and not just deemed to be true because it happens to be true in some
instances. Popper s logic was that the only reason to test a theorywas to find a way to deem it
untrue, and so theories which are unable to be tested cannot be considered as science. I believe that
this was a great turning point in the history of science because there were many theories which
were considered as scientific because there was no basis of proving them otherwise. Many people
who were studying in certain unfalsifiable... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Astronomy is concerned with the study of celestial bodies like planets, stars, comets, asteroids,
moons, etc., the physics of these objects, and their relation to each other. Almost all information
obtained in astronomy is through direct observation and mathematical calculations. Any
astronomical theory can be tested by just looking up in the sky with a telescope. Further
knowledge can be obtained by observing the relationships between these bodies and using theories
from other branches of science such as physics and chemistry. Astrology, on the other hand,
attempts to use the information observed from celestial bodies, such as the location of the sun, the
moon, stars, and constellations in space, and their alignment relative to each other, to try to predict
and explain things which are happening here on Earth. Astrologers use things such as the time of

The Importance Of Food In My Life And My Family Life
Food it is something that we need to survive, it is essential for us as a species to grow and be
healthy. Some people see food as something that they need to live, but some people see it as
something more than something that we need to do. I am person who loves food. Food has been a
huge part of my life and my family life. Foodis not just something that tastes good, it gives me

what role food plays in my life and what food I eat. Food is ingrained in are daily culture, we see
food everywhere on billboards on TV we even see it on are phones. I believe that food is such a
daily occurrence in our life that we forget how much we actually eat and see it and talk about it.
I personally love to eat food. Eating food is one of those experiences that cannot mimic by doing
something else. I consume all sorts of food from fast food to high end restaurants. Food it isn t
just the physical object, every single dish of food has a story behind that dish. When I was a kid
my mother and I went to Lowe s to get a birthday present for my dad. As I walked into the store I
thought we were getting him a new tool. But I ended up finding out we got him this grilled call an

bottom of the Weber on the sides and then put lighter fluid on the charcoal and lit it on fire. Then he
waited till the charcoal started the smolder and put mesquitewood chips on the charcoal creating
this smoke that smelled amazing. Then the best part he laid a full rack of season ribs, as he laid
it on the grill you could hear the meat simmer and start to smell the meat cooking. After waiting
for seems like an eternity I finally got to partake of the ribs. This was the first time I ever ate ribs, it
was something I never tasted before my life it was so good. This is just one story out of hundreds

Workplace Reflection Essay
There are racial things happening all around us every day but many times people can block it
out or don t notice it because it seems normal. This week I decided to watch and see what racial
or gender type things happen at my place of work. I work at a restaurant in downtown Green
Bay, it a bit more expensive than most places. I m going to cover the way customers are served
and how they are treated and how things are a little more advanced in the kitchen staff. First of
all, I am a host at the restaurant so I watch closely to make sure all tables are getting service, when
a table is first sat the tableis greeted by the server in a happy tone Usually if the customers reply
back in a happy way and friendly way that table will get more attention from the server throughout
their time at the restaurant. When the customer tends to treat the server more as a servant and not
as a real person the servers tendto not check up on the table as much because the table doesn t
seem friendly. Another thing I noticed is that when a table sits and they are dressed nicely and
servers my pay more attention to them compared to a table that is in sweatpants. Servers pay
more attention to the tables that are dressed nicely because they expect them to tip better, I have
seen this first hand with two tables sat at about the same time and the family dressed nicer tip
decently and the table in sweats tipped 74 cents on a $35 bill. Now I know that I don t know the
financial backgrounds of these two families but this is a more expensive restaurant so customers
tend to spend more than going to a Red Robins. Another factor in how you are served at a
restaurant is younger couples and elderly couples are less likely to tip well. Younger couples
tend to be seen as not having significant funds to pay and tip well. Elderly couples are seen as
small tippers because they are used to saving and a lower tipping percentage. For a long time the
tipping percentage was 15% percent but over the last few years, it has been raised to about 18%
to 20%. Next, I want to talk about how usually when you think of a restaurants kitchen staff you
may think low income men maybe even Mexican. At the restaurant, I work at we have a wide

The Raft Of The Medusa Essay
The Raft of the Medusa depicts the minute when, following thirteen days drifting on the raft, the

the greater part of the figures rendered are life sized and those in the frontal area twice life

CLIMATE CHANGESHOULD BE A POLITICAL AND NOT A SCIENTIFIC PROBLEM
Introduction
Global warming has become one of the most important scientific, political and economic issues.
According to the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), the period between 1995 and
2006 seems to have been one of the warmest yet recorded since 1850 relevant variables such as
changes in ocean temperatures, changes in terrestrial ecosystems, the decrease in the extent of
snow and ice in the northern hemisphere, the shortening of the cold seasons, melting glaciers,
reduction in the extent of permafrost and rising sea level, provide clear evidence of that the world

effort. The most important is the current via the United Nations Convention on Climate Change has

Victimization In The Millennium Trilogy
The Interrelation of Corruption and Victimization in The Millennium Trilogy
Stieg Larsson s acclaimed crime fiction book series, The Millennium Trilogy, is not only
remarkable for its thrilling plot, but also for Larsson s adroit ability to provide perceptive social,
economical, and political commentary. This essay will concentrate on Larsson s commentary
regarding the corruption of the socio political system and how it relates to victimization. In order to
best illustrate this thesis, I shall analyze these themes in Larsson s second novel in the series, The
Girl Who Played with Fire, and with references to his first novel, The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo.
In the following exploration, one will see Bo Tao Michäels The Ten Commandments... Show

This almost conflicts directly to a majority of Larsson s Millennium Trilogy. In The Girl with the
Dragon Tattoo, there are many signs of corruption from Hans Erik Wennerström s illegal
industries to the Vanger corporation covering up Martin and Gottfried s murders. Larsson
continues this motif as well in The Girl Who Played with Fire. It is the corruption of the
Swedish government and the police that allows Zara to rape and abuse Salander s mother,
allows Zara to stay out of prison for his crimes, and forces Salander to a psychiatric ward. It is
the corruption of the guardianship system for psychiatrics that allows Salander to be raped by
Bjurman and to be held hostage by the law. Furthermore, it is the leaders of society, the prominent
social, economic, and political upper crust of Sweden, that are subject to investigation for sex
slavery by Dag and Mia. It would not be unreasonable to state that corruption exists at every level.
Moreover, this corrupted system is truly the creator behind all of Salander s psychiatric problems. If
the Swedish system was free of corruption, as suggested in The Ten Commandments, then one could
argue that Salander s mental and physical health would drastically

Introduction
A Thousand Plateaus Outline
Treatise On Nomadology The War Machine
In the overview of the chapter Treatise on Nomadology The War Machine of the book A Thousand
Plateaus the writer describes how the chess game has been used to represent the state whereas the
nomad and smooth allowance relationship has been expounded using the Go player. The writer,
Deleuze explains how chess and Go are different. According to the text, chess encodes and decodes
the spaces within the game whereas Go is different from chess because it territorializes and
deterritorializes the spaces. In other words, Deleuze is explaining how the war machine and state
tools are way different in their purity. According to the writer, a state is not just a state that is
governed by administration officers like chiefs, he views a state as a society that has arms of
government at work or rather mechanisms. According to this chapter, Treatise On Nomadology
The War Machine , mechanisms are way beyond primitive structures such as the primordial,
rhizomatic which are nomadic and arborescent and are majorly based on the organs of power (p.
357 358). This book review explains into details the chapter Treatise On Nomadology The War
Machine of the book A Thousand Plateaus on various aspects such as the war vs. the state, the war
machine rules, how the war machine maintains nomad science and the methods utilized by the
writers in

Sherman Alexie Indian Analysis
Sherman Alexie s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian captures the life of Junior, a
young boy who lives on the Spokane Indian Reservation in poverty. Junior describes the unique
experience of killing his own dog because of his family s financial status through a bitter and
helpless tone. This tone appeals to the audience s feelings of compassion and guilt towards Junior s
life in order to demonstrate what life can genuinely be like in povertyas an Indian on the
Reservation.
Junior s youthful and informal language generates the tone with examples such as Oh, maybe you
ve done the math in your head and you figure: Poverty= empty refrigerator + empty stomach . In
this quote Junior simplifies the generalization of poverty into a ... Show more content on

These words encompass the feelings of spite, guilt, and compassion throughout the excerpt.
Junior s spiteful tone aims to make the reader feel uncomfortable because he needs to write and
put down how he feels. Junior desires to explain how his pain carries throughout his life with
events such as taking away his best friend. This instills an overarching feeling of guilt within the
reader. The direct diction chosen by Alexie amplifies the way Junior is directly speaking to the
reader about his problems. It s known that the Native Americans were moved off of their land and
put into Reservations. Junior takes his anger from these events and writes them in the diary to share
his discontent about the way these people are treated and put on reservations in which they don t
have proper jobs or funding. Junior s bitter tone wouldn t be revealed without the addition of
gloomy diction with their underlying negative connotations. Junior describes his life of poverty on
the Spokane Indian Reservation. He wants the readers to know how life truly is on the Reservation
by incorporating informal, youthful, and conversational language and gloomy diction. These
elements together in his writing develop a bitter and helpless

Savior Sibling
The Life of a Savior Sibling
What is more wonderful than a birth of a baby? Human genetics is tremendously increasing each
day. Scientists have figured out which genes causes what diseases and where at in the embryos.
Vitro fertilization also refers to IVF, is a medical procedure which allows selected embryos that
don t have diseases into a petri dish. Prior to IVF, is when Pre Implantation Genetic Diagnosis
also known as PGD, occurs. This is where the doctors will identify which embryos are healthy so
no diseases will be passed onto the child and the baby will then be born healthy. PGD and IVF is
being used to implant healthy embryos into the mother to conceive a baby to save the parents
sick child known as a savior sibling. A savior sibling is a child whose only purpose of being
conceived is to provide an organ or a cell transplant to a sibling that is affected with a fatal disease.
With the help of Pre implantation genetic diagnosis, sick children have the possibility of being
cured by their brother or sister. According to the American PregnancyAssociations, the possible
candidates include carriers of sex linked genetic disorders, carriers of single gene disorders, those
with chromosomal disorders, women age 35 and over but that s not all. But, another ... Show more

According to the Advanced Fertility Center of Chicago, IVF that includes genetic testing and
frozen embryos cost usually around $17,000 to $25,000. With getting the procedure PGD done,
the majority of women will need to get medication and the medicine alone will cost at the
minimum $3500. But the cost depends also on your BMI or your age. So, if a woman has a higher
BMI then she will be needing a higher dose of medication which will indicate that she will be
paying as much as $6,000. Whereas a thin, young woman will be on a lower dosage of medicine
therefore will be a lower cost. If you re getting your embryos frozen, it ll cost

Theories of the Etiology of Addiction Essay
Certain models and theories regarding addiction have a tremendously valuable impact con society
s reaction toward addiction. There are certain aspects of each theory which are very important in
the treatment of addiction. Not all addicts and alcoholics fit into the specific criteria of one theory
or model so it is beneficial for Chemical Dependency Counselors to have an in depth understanding
of various theories to draw from. Most theories about addictionfail to provide a comprehensive
account of chemical abuse, dependence or addiction. There is truth and speculation to every theory.

36). It has been established that addiction is related to several genes and that no one gene is
considered a genetic marker for identifying those whom are at risk for developing alcoholism. E.M.
Jellinek has been called the father of alcohol studies because his work has played a primary role
in the shift from alcoholism as viewed as a defect, to alcoholism as understood, recognized, and
treated in the illness and disease model. The disease model suggests that addiction is an illness. It
proposes that addiction and alcoholism are a result of the impairment of healthy neurochemical or
behavioral processes. The disease model is widely leveraged in therapeutic settings and it actually
forms the basis for Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and Nar Anon.
As alcohol dependence and addiction has been categorized as a disease, it has opened up
numerous possibilities for treatment which were formerly nonexistent. Jellinek was a trained
biostatistician who effectively established a definite patter to the appearance of the symptoms of
alcoholism. He also explained that there was progression of the disease in terms of increasing
dysfunction. He further identified the symptoms and signs of alcoholism (which tend to cluster
together), which is also applied to addiction. Jellinek developed the idea of the four phases of
alcohol addiction:

The American Of The Mexican American War Essay

The Mexican American War
28 January 2015
US History
University of Phoenix
In 1846 1848 was the first time the U.S would fight a war on foreign soil, it was called the
Mexican American war. At this time Mexico was just starting to develop into a government and
was extremely confused and leadership was split between decisions. While the U.S government
was head over heels about pushing the country s borders farther and farther across North America
with only expansion in his mind. President James K. Polk faith was in one thing and one thing only
to the Manifest Destiny. He believed that the country shouldn t be limited to just the Atlantic
coastline that it should be connected to the Pacific Ocean as well. It began alongside the Rio
Grande. Mexico controlled Texas, Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah, and New Mexico in 1835. In
1836, Texas was the first Mexican territory that gained its independence from them. The United
States originally believed that another state would cause major issues because one it wasn t
controlled by the government and there was a lot of unknown politics. Texas was another major
slave state and most of the major northern states didn t believe slavery should be allowed. Another
reason was because Mexico consistently threatened Texas after they gained independence that they
would raid the borders and destroy whatever laid in front of them. The Mexicans are actually the

Transitioning From A Licensed Practical Nurse
Transitioning from a licensed practical nurse to a registered nurse I feel will be a fairly
challenging task. This is due to the fact that responsibilities and expectations of a registered nurse
are much higher. Consider the many reasons for returning to school. You may think the
recognition for your work and pay differential are the primary reasons. These may be
considerations but you are embarking on a journey of professional development that will further
your knowledge, skills, and abilities compared with just a quick fix to a distressing situation. You
will be facing change. (Kearney Nunnery, Rose) The adjustment from being primarily a psychiatric
nurse to venturing out into skilled nursing will be a challenge in itself. Some nurses... Show more

Psychiatric nurses have to build trust, explore feelings, assist the patient to problem solve
enabling then to meet psychosocial needs. Transitioning from a practical nurse to a registered
nurse will build upon my already existing knowledge and expertise by developing my skills and
gaining more experience. My future role as a registered nurse will involve being able to think
critically and analyze issues more deeply. I also must be able to consider underlying conditions
and how they relate to my patient s status. As a registered nurse I must examine my personal
qualities and analyze whether I have the mental or emotional capacity to do what is required of
me. There are some very exciting areas of nursing practice from which the LPN can choose to
work. Each area is very unique as is every LPN! It is a great idea to work in many areas of
nursing over time to increase your marketability. (praticalnursing.org) Duties of LPNs and LVNs
vary depending on their work setting and the state in which they work. For example, they may
reinforce teaching done by registered nurses regarding how family members should care for a
relative; help to deliver, care for and feed infants; collect samples for testing and do routine
laboratory tests; or feed patients who need help eating. (bls.gov) As a practical nurse duties also
include administering medications, educating patients on their medications and possible adverse

Over the years, freedom in the U.S. has become an increasingly controversial topic, and the effectiveness of the government in affording these freedoms has been called into question. The act was one of the most important pieces of legislation in American history, outlawing discrimination of not only blacks, but women, in terms of voting, public education, and workplaces. The passing of this act was a catalyst for social reform, and racial and sexual acceptance. Although delayed and incredibly late, Lincoln and the United States government eventually granted and ensured all American citizens the same freedoms that still exist in the country today. A prime example of the freedom afforded to citizens can be seen through the exploits of the immensely controversial Westboro Baptist Church. The church, according to the Anti Defamation League, is a small virulently homophobic, anti Semitic hate group that regularly stages protests around the country (Extremism in America 1). According to Bill Mears with CNN, the church, which has long been a source of controversy, was recently sued for inflicting emotional distress upon a family as a result of protesting at the funeral of a dead marine. Before applying the standardized data to the PCA, the outliers should be excluded. A sensitivity analysis should be done to determine the outliers which should be removed. The suspected outliers should be removed from the data set one at a time until the PCA reaches a stable result and the further exclusion of the samples has very little effect on the PCA results (Swietlicki et al., 1996). While some argue that Beowulf is merely trying to understand the fate of his kingdom based on its newfound wealth, the desire for treasure is nonetheless childish telltale signs of selfish attributes in Beowulf s character. The story of the Volsung family contains the tale of Sigmund in The Saga of the Volsungs. Sigmund is also a mythological character, due to his immediate relation to the mythical Volsung family, just like Beowulf. His actions, such as becoming a wolf (just like Beowulf) with his incestuous son Sinfjotli in the forest, embarking on an adventure to fight hunters, are clearly impossible without the mythological or legendary setting. For this reason, we classify Sigmund as being mythological, since he could not have been real, at least based this description. On the other end of the spectrum, it is speculated that older adults lean more toward being pro life, meaning they do not agree with the legality of abortion. Atoms are made up of a nucleus, which consists of a ball of protons and neutrons, and electrons, which orbit the nucleus. Fission is the process by which atoms are hit with neutrons and split into lighter atoms. In this process, the huge amount of binding energy which holds the protons and neutrons of the nucleus together is released, and pieces of the nucleus fly apart with enormous energy called radioactivity. Anyhow, using their new knowledge of fission, scientists set to work and created a fission bomb. In the fission bomb, neutrons are purposefully given energy. They naturally collide with atoms, which fission, or split apart, and release two or three more neutrons and a lot of energy. These extra neutrons run into other atoms, causing them to fission and repeat the process. This starts a chain reaction. Every time the number of fissions doubles, it is called a generation. When the number of neutrons produced in one generation of fissions equals the fissions in the next, critical mass is attained. A standardization and consolidation of customer records needs to be implemented for the sales team to be more successful in the future. The CRM will consolidate the sales team into one unit rather than individuals servicing specific accounts. Customer relations will be proficient due to the ability of multiple sales personnel being able to acquire and update account information rather than a single person maintaining individual account records. Not to mention when a sales person is not available due to health, personal issues or vacation, another employee will be able to provide information and support. Now, both aspects of the conflict are in full blast. Society is forcing these brothers to work against each other, ironically for one main shared purpose. Both of these stories show the affect that society has on communities and individuals, alike. The need for specific people, such as Torvald and the Stockman brothers, to be what society wants them to be creates conflicts that are larger than themselves. It creates problems with others. This is the result of human doing what they do best, make mistakes. The human race evolves over time, both mentally and physically. With these changes come new responsibilities and decisions. When people fail to fulfill their responsibilities, conflicts arise. That is seen in these stories. This is a similar pattern as that of the gender role throughout history. Women were seen as the more submissive gender. This is because human beings made it this way. All of these conflicts and problems that are still to this day present are because of humans. As a race, humans create problems between each other because they feel some sort of unearned privilege to be better than others. In other words, by improving the participant s self care routine we will also improve her SWB. Mindfulness therapy falls under the umbrella of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is an evidenced based treatment that was derived as a way to treat individuals who are at risk for emotional dysregulation on a more long term basis (Craighead, 2016). Mindfulness includes education about the client s illness, meditation techniques and drawing a connection between specific thoughts and feelings. This is all done in an effort to teach individuals to more routinely notice their thoughts and avoid rumination and negative thinking patterns that can lead to feelings of negative self worth, guilt and excessive self criticism (Williams Kuyken, 2012). According to research from six randomized controlled trials with a total of 593 participants Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioral therapy was shown to reduce relapses of depression in 44% (Williams Kuyken, 2012). Rumination is considered a negative attentional focus on the origin and ramifications of emotions which lasts for an extended amount of time ( Nolen Hoeksema, 1991). After reading more into the article, I believe that they used the longitudinal research design. To begin, a longitudinal study is where someone takes a group of people of the same age range and studies them over the course of several years or more. All the children tested were initially monitored prenatally and later on in life at age five, before they started school. For it to have been considered a cross sectional study, the researchers would have used a variety of people from all different age ranges in a much shorter timeframe of a few weeks or months. In the beginning, the research started with 249 children, but later when they did the IQ testing there was only a total of 150 children and that even included other children from outside the initial study group. This essay will compare and contrast the Frankenstein extract and the poem, The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere in three aspects, namely the narrating voice, the themes and the literary techniques used. Shelly uses this theme to reflect the shallowness of society where social prejudice is founded on appearances and stress the idea of society s injustice towards abnormalities. It can be understood that the monstrosity in the creature is a social product. On the other hand, the mariner experiences solitude as part of his punishment for his sin. His experience came about as a result of his impulsive act of killing the albatross. Unlike the creature who has been unjustly subjected to isolation without a choice, the mariner has a choice. He could have chosen not to kill the bird. In a way, his solitude is self induced. With solitude comes sufferings and that leads us to another common theme of sufferings and impact. However, we can see on Figure 14 that most of the people in Hungary want to introduce the single currency according to that opinion poll. Hence, it seems that temporarily we do not want to follow the way of the northern country. In addition, recently Sweden does [also] not have a target date to adopt the euro just like Hungary. Popper s logic was that the only reason to test a theorywas to find a way to deem it untrue, and so theories which are unable to be tested cannot be considered as science. This week I decided to watch and see what racial or gender type things happen at my place of work. I work at a restaurant in downtown Green Bay, it a bit more expensive than most places. I m going to cover the way customers are served and how they are treated and how things are a little more advanced in the kitchen staff. First of all, I am a host at the restaurant so I watch closely to make sure all tables are getting service, when a table is first sat the tableis greeted by the server in a happy tone Usually if the customers reply back in a happy way and friendly way that table will get more attention from the server throughout their time at the restaurant. When the customer tends to treat the server more as a servant and not as a real person the servers tendto not check up on the table as much because the table doesn t seem friendly. Another thing I noticed is that when a table sits and they are dressed nicely and servers my pay more attention to them compared to a table that is in sweatpants. Servers pay more attention to the tables that are dressed nicely because they expect them to tip better, I have seen this first hand with two tables sat at about the same time and the family dressed nicer tip decently and the table in sweats tipped 74 cents on a $35 bill. Now I know that I don t know the financial backgrounds of these two families but this is a more expensive restaurant so customers tend to spend more than going to a Red Robins. Another factor in how you are served at a restaurant is younger couples and elderly couples are less likely to tip well. Younger couples tend to be seen as not having significant funds to pay and tip well. Elderly couples are seen as small tippers because they are used to saving and a lower tipping percentage. For a long time the tipping percentage was 15% percent but over the last few years, it has been raised to about 18% to 20%. Next, I want to talk about how usually when you think of a restaurants kitchen staff you may think low income men maybe even Mexican.
