Bitter Political Enemies
In Badger s and Choksi article How We Became Bitter Political Enemies as published by the New
York Times, the authors discuss the matter of the worsening political relations between the Democrat
and Republican party. This article presents the sore relations of the two parties as an occurrence that
has only significantly worsened over the last 50 years due to both sides of the aisle fostering a
growing animosity towards the other side. The animosity, however, has evolved from disagreeing over
policies and legislation, to outright disliking someone just due to the party they represent. As a result,
the Democrat and Republican party tension has become more personal over recent decades, and
bipartisanship has suffered due to this. Those who identify as either a Democrat or Republican view
the other party through a negative lens. For example, Badger and Choksi concluded that individuals
who affiliated with one of the two parties perceive that the opposing party isn t just misguided, ...

In short, we use our political affiliation as means of identifying our own person; similar to how one
identifies as a Christian (religion background) or as someone who is LGBT+ (sexuality). Despite that
different social subgroups can be found within the other party, it is party identification that prevails in
how partisans will view one another. A study that was discussed during class demonstrates that inter
group animosity based on partisanship exceeds animosity based on race. Badger and Choksi revealed
that after analyzing a Pew research poll, Republicans considered members of the opposing party to be
more close minded than other Americans, and that Opposing partisans [view each other as]

Blooms Taxonomy
Implementing Bloom s Taxonomy into instructional planning in lieu of high stakes standardized

individuals to strengthen and/or reinforce certain areas of study. With the case of high stakes
standardized tests, students are being taught at lower levels of cognition, thus impacting their
cognitive development for application in furthering education and career readiness. Given that
education plays a significant role in social status and economic prosperity, school should prepare
students with skills to be able to prosper and become successful. This paper will discuss how Bloom s

Education is an essential indicator of success in the 21st century, students need to be acquiring skills
that prepare them for the demands of the real world. Despite the mandating of high stakes
standardized tests, teachers can align their goals with higher order thinking to develop students
cognition, problem solving abilities, and critical thinking initiatives. Cognitive development is a
crucial element of a student s success, which can be enhanced through metacognitive awareness.
Implementation of Bloom s taxonomy into instructional planning can guide educational practice such
that students develop a range of cognitive skills. Essentially, the main goal of education is to prepare

Importance of Mountains in Kerouac s Dharma Bums and Barthelme s The Glass Mountain
Mountains are significant in the writing of Jack Kerouac and Donald Barthelme as symbolic
representations of achievement and the isolation of an individual from the masses of the working class
in industrialized capitalist American society. The mountains, depicted by Kerouac and Barthelme, rise
above the American landscape as majestic entities whose peaks are touched by few enduring and
brave souls. The mountains of Kerouac s The Dharma Bums symbolize personal freedom and
accomplishment through achieving a connection with nature distant from the constraints of
materialism and a polluted industrialized American society. Barthelme s ... Show more content on

The mountains, being so colossal, have many levels and plateaus in which some people may find
comfort and a sense of accomplishment where they may choose to live out the remainder of their
lives, although they are far from the peak. Morley s decision to stay behind while Japhy and Ray
continue their climb to the peak of Matterhorn is comparable to Barthelme s depiction of the crowd on
the streets watching cynically as their hero climbs to the golden castle of the glass mountain. This
crowd symbolizes the growing middle class, comfortable in their conformity as working stiffs and
homemakers who do not want to risk their current contentment for a chance to reach the heights of
American capitalism. Morley is content to remain a dreaming spot by the little lake in the eyes of Ray
Smith who is miles ahead on the mountain questioning his own decision to tackle the frightening
height of the Matterhorn. (p.82). Morley represents, through his actions, Americans living
comfortably, yet always dreaming the American dream to be more successful, powerful, or rich as he
says I don t think I can make it. Ill wait here (P. 81). The plateaus in the Glass Mountain are equally

Case Study 2: Denny Clifford
Preliminary Analysis Question
Describe how the identified resources can be repurposed to address specific ID needs. Denny Clifford
(ID) has identified resources such as numerous published articles related to children learning based on
Dr. Oakes problem centered science curriculum, a list of 24 teachers with experiences in the problem
solving technique, a box of videotapes of teachers applying the problem solving technique in their
classrooms, a list of local teachers interested in learning about Dr. Oakes problem centered science
curriculum, and a copy of the grant proposal that funded the development of the materials for science
teachers (Ertmer and Cennamo, 2007). These resources can be repurposed into something new and
different by creating a website for professional training tailored for teachers and administrators
interested in the problem centered science curriculum. The website can include:
New resources and tools personalized for various groups of audience. For example; adding closed
captions to videos in various languages to meet the needs of learners from across the country.
Detailed information about the problem solving science curriculum which can be obtained from the
published articles and copy of the grant proposal.
Videos, podcasts or links to them, which explains the problem solving learning approach
A blog and forum section for teachers to access additional information and to answer some of their
frequently asked questions. The blog will provide opportunities for Dr. Oakes to add new information
and updates which might come from her research or/and other teachers. Whereas, the forum section
can address specific issues or concerns that will benefit teachers from across the country. It will also
allow teachers to collaborate and work with each other over similar issues or concerns. The continued
interaction and feedback from the blog and forum can help Dr. Oakes review the content and progress,
and provide Denny with opportunities to solve individual problems in a timely manner.
Testimonials of some of the 24 teachers that participated in previous workshops. These testimonials
can show novice teachers how to approach and interact with students

A. Then, once I started going to college, I was immediately exposed to the danger that our world faces
due to the effect of global warming caused by the use of coal power plants.
B. With the knowledge I gained from my classes and from my work experience at a nuclear power
plant, as well as the research I have done for this speech, I am aware of the immediate attention that
global warming requires and how the use of nuclear power to produce electricity is more preferable
than coal power plants.
C. I will be graduating with Bachelor of Science in Nuclear and Mechanical Engineering on May 2015

To A Mouse Analysis
The best laid schemes o mice an men, gang aft agley. Robert Burns states this in his famous poem To a
Mouse, this is believed to have influenced the title of the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck.
The reason this line from the poem influences the novel does not seem apparent at first, but by the end
of the novel it becomes clear. This novel focuses on two friends, Lennie and George who are migrant
workers in the 1930 s during the great depression. They move from ranch to ranch with each other,
which sets them apart from most because they have each other, while the majority of migrant workers
travel alone. George is a small man who is smart and responsible, and takes care of Lennie. Lennie is a
very large, strong, man, but he is very simple minded, as he is a little mentally challenged. Although
Lennie seems intimidating, he is a very nice man and has the mentality of a child. The novel focuses
on the dream that George and Lennie have of getting their own farm. This is a very important
component of the novel, because presumably, it is the idea of George and Lennie s dream that inspired
the novel s title. Steinbeck conveys the message of Robert Burns poem by showing how easily a
dream or plan can be shattered.
George and Lennie talk about their dream of owning a farm near the beginning of the novel, so we can
assume that they have had this dream for quite some time, especially from the detail George includes
when telling Lennie about it. They want to have their

The Decline Of The Twentieth Century
1. Introduction
One of the major medical achievements of the twentieth century was the dramatic increase in the
average global life expectancy. In 1950, the global median age was 23.6 years; by the year 2000, it
rose to 26.4 a gain of three years. The United Nations has projected that by the year 2050, the median
age will jump to 37 years a ten year gain (Kochhar, 2014). People are living longer. At the same time,
people are having fewer children. The consequence will be a situation without precedent: by the year
2020, there will be more of people over 65 years of age than children. World Health Organization
(WHO) and many of the developed as well as developing nations are raising questions such as ¬ Will
longer lives result in longer periods of good health, longer periods of productive careers and social
engagements, or will old age mean prolonged illness, disability, and dependency on family and the
State. How will the healthcare and social costs be borne by high income and low income nations?
Managing the demographic forces will require creation of institutions and infrastructures that may
seem costly; waiting could be costlier (Dobrianskt, Suzman and Beard 2011). The first part of the
paper describes the projected changes in the population and the attitudes towards aging and coping
with aging related issues. An aging population, without appropriate policies, can become an economic
and social burden in many of the European countries. The second section describes some

The Fulbright Program Essay
The Fulbright Program
A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He
experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest a kind of optical
delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal
desires and to affections for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this
prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature

approximately 4,500 new grants each year. (U.S. Department of State, 2002).
Although the program was build with the mission of promoting capacity for empathy and
understanding among nations its launch was also prompted by a very practical purpose, namely the
need to deal with the millions of pieces of war surplus equipment that remained overseas after the war.
II. The Historical Context
Exchange of Scholars in early U.S. Higher Education
There is no record of any state or federally funded scholar exchange program until the twentieth
century. However, it wasn t uncommon for American students and scholars to study in educational
institutions abroad even early in the history of U.S. higher education. German universities were
usually the early favorites. Benjamin Franklin had become the first American to visit a German
university, when he went to Gottingen in 1766. In the 19th century many professors in the American
universities, including the ones that had German origin had studied in Germany and most of them had
received their doctoral degrees from German universities.
Number of students who were officially enrolled in German Universities between 1815 and 1870 is
estimated to be 640 (Goldschmidt, 1991). Although the number of students enrolled slightly
diminished towards the First World War, there were 255 American students enrolled in a

Analysis Of Stephen A. Brighton s Article
Purpose: Stephen A. Brighton s article is primarily a portrayal of the steps that today s archeologists
are working to implement. According to the article, it is explained how archeology have changed
horizons compared to previous years. The case discussed in this article focuses on the fact that in order
for archeology to have greater impact in communities and in general, it should deviate a bit from its
merely scholar course to a more socially oriented pathway, ruled by community collaboration and
committed service to the underserved members of the community. It states that former ways of
archeology were not particularly focused on social that is why occasionally the most oppressed
members of the society were excluded and deprived of their rights. This flaw is now being improved.
Therefore, this article is aimed to expose the way modern archeology works to empower the people to
stand for their heritage and fight for social justice in spite of political policies without neglecting the
ethical guidelines of the profession. Population of Study: Brighton s article explores the field of study
of public archeology on the area of the Town of Texas in the region of Baltimore County in Maryland.
The project focuses on a specific ethnic group: the earliest settlers of the area who were mainly
emigrants from Ireland that populated the area from the last half of the 19th century to the 20th
century. The Irish population migrated as a result of land tenure difficulties and lack of

Greek Architecture
The Greek culture has had a huge impact on the history of the world. There is something Greek in
almost everything, especially in the world s architecture. Greece no longer had one king, so they
focused on building temples for their gods. Architecture began small and plain but evolved into
impressive pieces of art. As time passed from the Archaic period to the Hellenistic period, the people
of Greece developed a type of formula for their buildings and their pieces of art. In Ancient Greece,
religion dominated their life, so it is understandable that their architecture would be dominated by
their religion. Before Greece became many different city states, they had kings, and they would build

They didn t want a column in the middle because than you would have to walk around the column to
get into the temple. The most common temples would be called hexastyle because it would have six
columns in the front. If there was four columns across then it would be called tetrastyle or eight across
would be called octastyle. Another way to classify a temple is how the columns are distributed. When
a temple only has a row of columns on the front and has end walls, it is called in antis. If the temple
has a row of columns on the front with no end walls, it is called prostyle. If a temple has a front and
back portico with columns, it is called amphiprostyle. The most famous Greek temples would be
considered to be peripteral, meaning that it has columns all the way around the building. The Greeks
had a certain formula on how many columns would go on each side of a peripertal temple. They
would take the number of columns in the front portico and multiply it by two and add one. If your
temple was hexastyle and peripertal, than there would be thirteen columns on each side ( 6+6+1= 13).
The Greeks had developed a type of formula when it came to the construction of a temple. There is not
a major difference in architecture between the Archaic period and the Classical period. During the
Archaic period they began to use stone instead of wood. Some of the most preserved remains

Analysis Of Thomson s Argument Of Determining The...
Through the words of Thomson, the argument of determining the implementation of life exists.
Thomson examines the conflict between practicality and impracticality. Practicality stands on
empiricism where science based beliefs as factual concrete information structures the overall argument
of pro choice. Impracticality stands on faith where it could be argued that religious based knowledge
serves as concrete information to defend pre life. In my essay I will argue Thomson s claim of the
special cases in which abortion is acceptable and challenge the morality of deciding the fate of a
human life who does now have a voice of input.
Thomson begins her argument by discussing when life begins. There are two theoretical ideas of how

The sport of baseball was not established until the late 1800 s. The sport was not played at the
collegiate or even pro level until the early 1900 s. Whenever the first colleges started playing baseball,
there were two colleges that aided in the help to form the Tokyo Big Six University League: Keio and
Waseda. There was also a high school championship that occurred in Osaka, which helped spark the
love of baseball across the nation. The country of Japan didn t have a professional team at this time,

Pacific League and the Central League. Each of these leagues were made up of six teams that played
each other up until the Japan Series, as well as the All Star game. Despite the many athletes that Japan
has, not very many of them went on to play in the Major League. One major factor that kept Japanese
players from playing in the Major League during this time was World War II. The Japanese players
felt that they shouldn t leave their country during that time of turmoil, so many of them turned down
contracts to play in the majors. Another reason many of them stayed to play in Japan was the contracts
that many of them had with the NPB. Around 2000, the NPB and MLB worked out the differences, in

Below I have summarized an explanation to the questions that came about during your examination of
a subsidiary that has been set up as a corporation.
The methodology used to determine deferred taxes.
The deferred taxes reported are a temporary difference. The deferred taxes were calculated based on
what needed to be reported versus what has been posted to the corporations books. The temporary
difference is the difference between the tax basis of an asset or liability and its reported (carrying or

The Character of Moth in Love s Labor s Lost Essay
The Character of Moth in Love s Labor s Lost
Like much of Love s Labor s Lost, the young character Moth is full of paradox. When Shakespeare
has little Moth play great Hercules in the Nine Worthies, the playwright offers humor in contrasting
the physiques of the actor with his role, or as Armado puts it, Moth is not quantity enough (5.2.130) to
play the Greek god. However, Shakespeare may also be using this contradiction to compare physical
strength with mental. Although physical ability doesn t carry significance in Love s Labor s Lost,
mental ability does, and Moth (mentally superior to his contemporaries) proves himself worthy of a
high status. Using Moth as a Herculean figure is one of the most obvious paradoxes in the ... Show

First, Moth delivers a contrasting image swift lead and then defends his oxymoron by completing the
image: lead bullets. This example demonstrates the page s cleverness, but his rhetoric always refers to
the real world and not to the one in books. Unlike Armado, who relies too heavily on literary figures
like Hercules and Sampson for self validation, Moth claims his intellect comes from [m]y father s wit
and my mother s tongue (1.2.95). Moth s roots are firmly grounded in reality.
Since Moth lives in the real world, he hasn t pursued academic interests; instead, he has studied and
understands people, and this perspective often gives him an advantage over the scholarly characters.
Most of the play s characters try using language in order to impress others. Some do this effectively,
but most do not. Moth succeeds with rhetoric where many fail because he knows that words are tools,
not toys. In other words, Moth knows how to use words to serve his purpose, and he also knows when
to keep his mouth shut. When the boy first encounters Holofernes and Nathaniel, he calls the men s
versions of Latin scraps (5.1.37). And if that isn t insulting enough, Moth claims the two learned men
have stol n such crumbs. In the face of pretentiousness, words come easily to the boy. The page
ridicules helpless Holofernes, calling the old man a cuckold in various clever and humorous ways.
Here, Moth appears to play with

Some years ago I accompany a group of youth of the parish to the WYD in Rio De Janairo. The most
important day this pilgrimage is the vigil night and the following mass with the Pope. The vigil and
the mass took place in Copa Cabana Beach. To get there on time we had to walk for 15 miles. We start
to walk, we we happy, talking a having a good time. Everything was fine until a girl, stumbled upon a
stone, she fell, and sprained ankle, bruised forehead and much of the arm was scratched. We were all
worried; we helped as we could, hope to find a hospital soon. I determined that she could not walk and
said, do not you worry, continue, I stay here and then I pick up the return. We all looked at each other.
Until a brave boy said, I will not continuo; I prefer to stay here with her, then another, then another, at

Question I 1. What do you want to review and why to begin your assessment of the organization s
compliance with HIPAA regarding the use and disclosure of PHI for research? My initial review
would begin with conducting a risk assessment involving these areas: a. Patient HIPAA agreements I
would review the organization patient HIPAA information release forms to ensure that the form
follows the laws and regulations provided by HHS. Covered entities must comply with HIPAA rules
requirements protecting the privacy and security of patient s health information and must provide
patients with rights regarding access to their healthcare records. b. EHR agreements A covered entity

Women s Health Assessment Part II
Women s Health Assessment Part II: Labor There are various stages of labor. According to Chuma,
Kihunrwa, Matovelo, and Mahendeka (2014) the initial stage of labor occurs at the onset of cervical
change to complete cervical dilatation, and is further divided into latent and active phases (Chuma,
Kihunrwa, Matovelo, Mahendeka, 2014). When the cervix starts to efface and dilate up to 3cm, this is
considered to be the latent phase. The active phase is declared when cervical dilatation increases, and
occurs from 4 cm to 10 cm (Chuma, Kihunrwa, Matovelo, Mahendeka, 2014). Case Study and History

Essay The Use of Drugs by 1950s Artists
A movement arose among the artists of 1950s America as a reaction to the time s prevailing
conformity and affluence whose members attempted to extract all they could from life, often in a
strikingly self destructive way. Specifically, the Beat writers and jazz musicians of the era found
escape from society in drugs and fast living. But what exactly led so many to this dangerous path?
Why did they choose drugs and speed to implement their rebellion? A preliminary look at the
contradictions that prevailed in 1950s American society may give some insight into these artists world.

Times were conducive to materialism and few seemed eager to change anything about their society. As
Halberstam pointed out, it could be dangerous to alter a system that was working so well (xi). Fear of
change, as well as fear of a sudden atomic death, led to anxiety within the superficially satisfied
culture. This nebulous fear of change, which needed to be directed at some enemy, found sanctuary in
vehement anti Communism (McNally 95), most extremely manifested in Senator McCarthy s witch
hunts in the 1950s. Anxiety focused on Russia; as Allen Ginsberg facetiously wrote in America, The
Russia wants to eat us alive (43). The Cold War indirectly resulting from this anxiety brought with it
the constant threat of annihilation. The fearsome power of nuclear weaponry had been demonstrated
against Japan and could at any time be turned against the United States, whose citizens would then
serve as sitting ducks for their own destruction. As tensions mounted, preparations of sorts were made
for nuclear war. Schoolchildren crawled under their desks during air raids, probably knowing at some
level that they could not hide from a bomb. A shelter was set up in rural West Virginia to which those
deemed important to rebuilding the country (including my grandfather, a Defense Department

Online Shopping And Mobile Transactions
INDUSTRY DEFINITION E COMMERCE Today, consumers steadily use multiple devices for online
shopping and mobile transactions rise steeply. The e commerce market has transformed the way
businesses are managed, conducted and executed, locally or globally. Earlier with the Internet, success
in retail was said to be depending on location. But at present, the Internet is said to be a global
marketplace, and have come up with even the tiniest retailer a national if not a global existence. The
span of the e commerce marketplace is tough to measure. The e commerce market has become such a
dynamic part of the economy that is hard to identify precisely where e commerce commences and the
old world economy ends. The e commerce industry made a notable progress in 2014 with goods and
services worth $1.5 trillion bought by consumers via desktops, tablets and smartphones. That is why,
most advertisers are now spending a cumulative part of their marketing resources on Internet
promotion and marketing. The world s leading markets for e commerce are led by the United States,
China, and the United Kingdom. Across the world, the previous years carried a continuous remarkable
growth and progress of retail e commerce all over the world. Revenues increased and had a raise more
than 20% worldwide in 2014 to almost $840 billion, as online retailers are constantly expanding to
new layouts and physical merchants move in to new markets through e commerce One of the leading

John Smith And William Bradford
There are times where you want to have a fresh start in a new place for many different reasons. John
Smith and William Bradford were originally from England and came to settle in America and were
very successful in their own ways but also had challenges. They both came to the new world for
opportunities. William Bradford and his people were trying to look for religious freedom away from
England and, they believed in God and predestination. Smith came to Jamestown in Virginia and was
looking for land and many riches to make more money and to take back to his home land and, at the
time tobacco was a big thing.
John Smith wasn t the guy that we all thought he was. John was boastful, a bad captain and he bragged
about himself a lot, To Captain Smith, who by his own example, good words, and fair promises, set
some to mow and cared about himself and no one else. (Smith 73) John would have his own food like
eggs, beef and many more and the other people would have to eat worms as grains,a pint of wheat and

Why The Wicked Don t Care About Preferences
It was once said that since outer space was practically infinite, there was no way that alternative
universes couldn t exist. They say that s where we came from, there are endless theories from all types
of viewpoints. Some call us godsends, some call us monsters. We call ourselves people. We didn t
mean for it to happen, most of us would have prefered if it didn t. The wicked don t care about
preferences, they don t care about anything besides themselves. They weren t thinking of anyone but
themselves when they cast that spell, they weren t thinking on anyone but themselves when they sent a
world that didn t belong to them into panic. It s been years since we arrived and so much has changed.
Those of us that came over didn t age, how could animations age? We were given human personas to
help blend in, some of us tried to construct lives knowing that we may never reach home again but,
ultimately we gave up. It s rather demotivating when you have to watch the people you care about
grow older while you never age. They changed our names, most of us. I m Cindy now, Mickey got
turned into Mick. They said that it s better this way so we don t attract unwanted attention to
ourselves. That s not hard, the country that we re trapped in has been reduced to rubble because of our
villains and the most magical place on Earth is the hell that we re forced to stay in. We got turned into

The Red Guard Group Analysis
What do Girl Scout troops and the Chinese Red Guard groups have in common? At first glance, there
may not be any clear similarities. Girl Scouts are known for selling cookies and helping the elderly;
the Red Guard consisted of Communist teenagers who want to do away with outdated Chinese culture
and traditions. However, if one disregards the surface levels details, there are fundamental similarities
between the two groups: both were popular youth organizations that had a sense of influence in the
community (by selling Samoas or writing dazibaos) and that offered a sense of community and
belonging for the teenagers involved. These two aspects are catnip to teenagers; hey can make young

that just because the youth were swept up in the Cultural Revolution, does not mean they understood

overwhelming ignorance of the matter at hand when she wrote, In fact, we [the Red Guard] did not

Literature Review Theoretical Framework
An Overview:
The literature that I have been gathering and going through since last few weeks, have just mounted
the evidence that Positionality is interpreted uniquely by the diverse group of people.
Positionality always existed; it s only that people have become more responsive to it now.
Every person is unknowingly or knowingly positioning himself in the mind of the other. This can
occur when a person is in the company of his colleagues, his friends, relatives, or even in his own
house! This impact or the impression as we call it casually can be through very subtle signs of the
person s expressions and responses to some particular views, ideas or opinions. Even a person s
appearance through the way he presents himself, contributes enormously in constructing an image or a
position of that particular person in the mind of the other.
Looking at a wider perspective, ones own positionality can prove to be a big hurdle in his/her life.
Positionality stops a person from being creative or thinking outside the box. It makes a person very
rigid very confound. And this in itself is a barrier to your success.
Corporates today are constantly under pressure. The pressure of giving the right

Persepolis Historical Events Essay
Discuss particular historical events that are imported into the graphic novel, as well as her rebellious

of text and image. In Marjane Satrapi s Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi utilizes important Iranian
historical events to give us a detailed account of how certain events affected her life throughout the
graphic novel. For example, the two main events that hard the largest impact, not only on her, but to
the country as well, was the invasion from Iraq and the step down of the Iranian king Mohammad
Reza Shah Pahlavi. These two events are connected by time and how they both originated during the
time of the revolution. Also, Satrapi struggled with a rebellious phase that caused her to get in trouble
and possibly cause major ordeals. The introduction of the Iran Iraq War happened with not only
consequences for Iran, but a lasting and influential effect on Marjane Satrapi. The Iran Iraq War is

Cambodia s Dominant Textiles Today
Cambodia is a country that has endured an abundance of war and turmoil, however over recent
decades the country has slowly recovered their rich culture and traditions that they lost during the
Vietnam War. The country today, still suffers from the loss they have endured within the structure of
their culture and society. In fact, Cambodia s dominant textiles today are an affect of the lost traditions
that have faded during the Vietnam War. Though warfare has torn a hole into their history taking
valuable traditions away from the country, Cambodia has adapted their way of dress and textiles
slowly to the modern world.
Located in Southeast Asia bordered by Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam, Cambodia has a tropical warm
climate that is present year round. This accounts for the light daily attire as well as temple attire that
are worn throughout the country. Buddhism is practiced by 96.4 percent of Cambodians. The vast
majority of these belong to the Theravada school of Buddhism, which is also the official state religion
(Colgan, A. n.d. The People section, para. 3). The country s predominantly Buddhism following have
a profound impact on the art and textiles that have remained the same throughout the turmoil of the
Vietnam War. Between 1975 and 1979, under Pol Pot s leadership, the Khmer Rouge unleashed a
reign of terror that killed approximately a quarter of Cambodia s population through forced labor,
starvation, torture, and execution (Medvedev, 2010, p. 228). In fact with it

Paired Arthropods
The universality of body segments with paired appendages in arthropods indicates that at least some
parts of the developmental networks responsible for segmentation and appendage patterning cannot be
changed. Arthropods are developmentally constrained in that these networks must be conserved and in
that the networks for alternative appendage development do not exist. Variations in parts of the
developmental pathways responsible for segmentation and appendage patterning explain the
differences in body plan across the phylum. However, certain portions of the pathway must be
conserved, resulting in body segments with paired appendages in all arthropods. Research on the
developmental pathways that control segmentation in arthropods has shown that gene expression is
more highly conserved across the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, though the pattern of expression of pair rule genes may vary across arthropods, they are
consistently activated during development and play an important role in determining body segments
(Damen, 2007). Compared to genes further upstream in the segmentation pathway, pair rule genes are
highly conserved. The Notch/Delta system is much more divergent among arthropods (Damen, 2007).
Though Notch/Delta signaling plays an important role in Drosophila development, it is not greatly
involved in segmentation in Drosophila or other insects, but is very important in segmentation in
chelicerates (Damen, 2007). Additionally, while gap genes are crucial to determining segmentation in
insects, they play a much less significant role in non insect arthropods like chelicerates and myriapods
(Damen, 2007). Genes involved in appendage patterning in arthropods are also highly conserved. The

The Iranian Hostage Crisis wasn t the result of a spontaneous uproar of the Iranian people in an
overtaking of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, Iran. Rather, the crisis was the result of a lengthy series of
chaotic events that caused many of the Iranian people to develop a severe hatred of the United States.
According to Mark C. Carnes and John A. Garraty s The American Nation: A History of the United

Iran and forced its pro German shah into exile, replacing him with his twenty two year old son,

Because his American supplied army and his American trained secret police kept the shah in power,
his opponents hated the United States almost as much as they hated their autocratic ruler. The shah s
rule was not one of constant decency (Carnes and Garraty). From 1977 to 1979, Iran grew more and
more unstable, as the Iranian people s hatred of the shah further intensified. 1977 saw numerous riots,
along with both the wounding and even killing of large numbers of the Iranian people. The Iranian
people finally rose up against the shah in 1978, by January of the next year the shah was forced to

assumed power. He that freedom was an enemy of Islam, as well as that Islam condoned terror.
Khomeini denounced the United States as the Great Satan whose support of the shah, he said, had
caused the Iranian people untold suffering (Carnes and Garraty). Upon his exile, the shah was dying of
cancer, after seeking refuge in numerous countries he was finally given refuge in the United States.
The Iranian people wouldn t have it, and began protesting outside the U.S. Embassy demanding the
shah be returned, tried, and hanged. The Iranian Hostage Crisis was quickly approaching.

Love Of Love In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Shakespeare s tale Romeo and Juliet is all about the love displayed by characters, including the
platonic love that is demonstrated by best friends Romeo and Mercutio. Both Baz Luhrmann and
Franco Zeffirelli are able to portray this perfectly in their own different ways during the major fight
scene between Tybalt and Mercutio. Baz Luhrmann is able to portray love in this fight scene with
dramatic and intense music, along with fast paced camera work and close up shots. The close ups, for
example, are very important in displaying the love between Mercutio and Romeo. Whilst Mercutio
intervenes between the fight of Romeo and Tybalt, Luhrmann uses close ups to demonstrate how
much Romeo and Mercutio mean to each other. From the close up of the two, the audience can clearly
see the distress that is shown on Romeo s face when he sees that Mercutio is dead. For the love of
family that is displayed throughout this scene especially by Tybalt, Luhrmann uses fast paced intense
music to show how heated it is for Tybalt, and how much he dislikes the Montague household, due to
the love for his own household, the Capulets. On the other hand, Franco Zeffirelli isn t able to use
these cinematic techniques due to them not appealing to the target audience. Zeffirelli doesn t need to
use over dramatised cinematic techniques to portray the friendship that Romeo and Mercutio share as
they don t appeal to his target audience. Instead, Zeffirelli uses the emotions of the characters and the
way that

After the end of World War Two in 1945, the Western Powers, which included the United States of
America, France and Great Britain, entered a period of military and political tension between them
and the Soviet Union, despite the tentative alliance during World War Two. The first major
international crisis of the Cold War started on June 24, 1948, when the Soviet Union tried to starve the
Western held sectors of Berlin into submission and imposed the Berlin Blockade, by cutting off all
water, rail, and road connections to West Berlin, where the allies occupied. In response to this, the
United States and Great Britain resolved to sustain and keep Berlin supplied by air, or through flight,

Teachers Options Essay
Teachers Options
There are many options open to teachers of deaf children in a variety of situations. In teaching deaf
and hard of hearing children there is such a wide range of children, each with their own abilities. Each
child also has a different family situation to take into account. Some children come from deaf families,
some they are the only deaf family member, and some have no support from their families because
they are deaf. There are also students that have family members that make an effort to learn how to
best communicate with them, while some do only what they must to communicate the needed
information. Along with this is the severity of each child s hearing loss. Some suffer from only slight

Teaching with Sign Language
The most common educational teaching method for the deaf is to use a combination of both American
Sign Language (ASL) and English in the classroom. The signing of the English language is called
Pidgen Sign Language (PSL) or Signed Exact English (SEE). ASL is the accepted language of the
deaf in America and the preferred method of communication for the majority of the deaf culture. It is a
language of concepts instead of actual forming of sentences and has no relation to English. ASL has a
topic comment syntax, while English uses subject object verb (Nakamura, 2002). In this format, they
are able to understand each other best, but this can also cause problems for education. The downside
to ASL is that there is no use of sentence structure, so this is where a combination of ASL with English
comes in the education picture. This system of bilingual teaching (Mason, 1995) with ASL and SEE
teaches the children English, the language of the United States, but by using many of the signs of
ASL. The students are taught with the signs and concepts of ASL but in areas like reading and writing,
SEE and the grammar rules of English are learned and applied. Some teachers, when in a classroom
like this, also use some aspect of voice along with ASL and SEE because many students have hearing
aids or cochlear implants, surgically implanted forms of hearing assistance, and teachings of

Salem Witch Theory Of Ergotism
In 1692, people started doing strange behaviors such as convulsing uncontrollably, or crying in fear
from a terrifying hallucination such as something dark and scary in their chimney. Due to the lack of
medical knowledge at that time, the citizens automatically assumed it was witchcraft and out of panic,
the Salem Witch Trials began. However, with advanced medical scientific experts around today, the
theory that actual witchcraft was a thing has been dropped. What remains a mystery is What was the
real cause of the strange behaviors? . The only thing that is certain is that it was not witchcraft. Even
though the reasons behind the strange behaviors is unknown, there are many theories. One of them is
the ergot poisoning theory. Ergot poisoning (also known as ergotism) comes from a fungus called
Claviceps purpurea. This harmful fungus often sprouts up around grains such as rye; and a lot of bread
is made from rye or wheat. Since bread was eaten a lot in Salem Massachusetts, this philosophy does
have some valid points. The symptoms of ergot poisoning match what the supposed victims of
witchcraft had as well; creating another supporting point to this theory. However, this philosophy also
has some questionable considerations as well such as the fact that animals used for meat could have
given the people alkoid poisoning from eating the fungus or the grains that it touched; or the fact some
scientists also say that the people of Salem Massachusetts were too healthy to have a

Adenosine Function In The Body
Function in the body Adenosine primarily acts in the central nervous system. It promotes sleep in the
evening and assists the brain to wake up in the morning. The concentration of adenosine is highest in
the brain during waking hours and it builds up the longer a person is awake. Since the ATP reserves
are depleted and stored in the brain, it results in the buildup of adenosine in the brain. When a person
is asleep, adenosine is metabolized by adenosine deaminase, which results in a decreased
concentration in the brain in the morning which causes a person to wake up. In the brain there are
several receptors for adenosine, one being the A1 receptors which are mostly in the cerebellum, it
helps with memory storage. A2 receptors are in the striatum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Before, characterizing the family was straightforward. Couples had a tendency to live together after

area, therefore you need not panic about it. However, if you re facing multiple signs of balding then
this is a crucial sign that you should change a few routines to ensure the hair fall is natural and not
aggravated. Ensure that you re not combing or brushing your hair too hard, the same goes to drying
your hair too roughly with a towel after a shower. Tugging or applying too much pressure to your hair
aggravates hair loss. Changing these simple lifestyle habits can change the rate of your hair falling out
and reduce the chances of balding or hair loss. Thinning Hair More Visible Scalp If you re starting to

WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH (Orwell, p. 6) versus
Sharing is caring. Privacy is theft. Secrets are lies (Eggers, p. 305). Orwell sets up the book by place
the main character Winston stood in front of the slogan in the prison. Readers can suppose from this
slogan that everyone in the prison must change their real self in order to survive under totalitarianism.
War is peace is given a sense of anxiety that the Party can control the war anytime since they have
well enemy. Freedom is slavery, this seem to be ironic because the people only can get their while they
are a slavery, which mean that the have freedom when they are being a slave. As we noticed, slavery is
not a positive word to use for describing a free person. Since having a title of being a slave is already
taken away their freedom and human rights. And ignorance is strength, which shows that the Party
wants to control people s ability or right to learn. The Party thinks that no education is the power,
which they might afraid of anyone who was educated and try to go against them. Therefore, the Party
also create the language called Newspeak. The main aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of
thought, it is the only language that destroys words instead of adding new ones, and the vocabulary
continually gets smaller. In this way,

What Was The Positive Impact Of The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution is seen as one of the most evolutionary and impactful turning points in our
globe s history. Countries such as Britain, France, Germany, and the United States all took part in the
revolution, and many more countries took part along the way. This lengthy event had both positive and
negative factors that varied from the invention of Ford s Model T, to the output of pollution due to
increased industry. Between 1700 and 1850, the population skyrocketed and many rural workers
migrated to the city due to the availability of jobs. The first industry to come together were the textile
factories. It produced clothing and is now looked back at as the beginning of something new. The
output of products went from being a domestic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One invention was the telegraph, invented by Samuel Morse in the 1830s. The telegraph used
electricity in order to send signals over long wires. Morse then developed a language named after
himself called Morse Code. Once the code was sent over the wires, the person receiving it could then
translate it into letters or words. This new equipment invented during the revolution was very
impactful towards future events. It allowed long ranged communications during World War One and
Two. It was used extensively during these events mainly because communication was key in the
battlefield. The telegraph created a completely new technique of communication that allowed a great
change in many societies worldwide. A second invention was the lightbulb, developed by Thomas
Edison in the late 1800s. This electric powered, glass container was useful then, is useful now, and
will be used in the future to come. Towards the end of the Industrial Revolution, when the bulb was
invented, factories began to use them as a replacement for the gas lamps. The lightbulb is safer,
brighter, and more energy efficient. It brought workers a safer environment because it allowed for a
more visible workspace, resulting in less casualties. The lightbulb was an innovative invention that
positively impacted many workers of the past and lit up the globe s future both, literally and

Aguirre denied and was more concerned about the knife that he went inside to the station to pay for
his gas and told the cashier Lopez to call the police. As Aguirre went into his van and drove off he
noticed that the man with the knife had went in to the store and was struggling with the victim Lopez.
Aguirre then pulled off the freeway and drove to a nearby bowling alley to ask a security guard to call
the police. Aguirre returned 30 minutes later to the Shamrock gas station right when the police began
arriving. Right when Aguirre arrived he began identifying Deluna as the man with the knife, except
this time Deluna no longer had on a white shirt. Around the same time two other witnesses observed a
hispanic man jogging east away from the Shamrock; in an untucked white dress shirt rolled up
sleeves. Both witnessed that it was Deluna running away from the Shamrock gas station. Now it was
in the hands of the witnesses and police officers on what information to rely on to catch the killer.
Though the first witness Baker was face to face with the attacker he said that the killer had a
mustache. However the last two witnesses that encountered the man jogging away from the gas station
stated that the man had no beard or visible hair on the face. They described his face as clean shaved.
Because Carlos Deluna was running away from the scene and looked like the attacker, police
suspected him and arrested him immediately. Police found him hiding a few blocks

Evaluating Unethical Decision Consequences Of An Organization
Evaluating Unethical Decision Consequences
This paper provides an identification of potential means whereby Information Technology (IT)
managers, acting on the organization s behalf as purchase agents with IT vendors, participate in
fraudulent activities. Further included are a series of recommendations for measures and actions that
chief information officers or chief technology officers should consider as mandates to reduce fraud
and other unethical practices while protecting the reputation of the organization, and the infrastructure
of the computer systems of the organization. Finally, the paper elaborates regarding how these
identified measures reduce the frequency of fraudulent activities.
Identification of Potential Information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Identified Types of Fraudulent Activity
At almost any stage, there is a potential for fraud occurring in the IT procurement process. Fraud
activities may include a range of activities on the part of a fraudulent manager. As reported by the
ACFE (2010), these fraudulent activities on the part of procurement managers potentially include
various actions that negatively affect the organization. Accordingly, some identified types of
fraudulent activities reported in the ACFE (2010) study included categories such as: selecting only
information technology projects that provide higher return values with specifications tailored to limit
competitive bidding, or instituted through abuse by the IT managers of confidentiality. Moreover,
other potential fraudulent activity might include manipulations in the preparation stage of the contract
resulting in limits to the submission of and evaluation relative to contract bids, as well as the potential
for instances of false invoice and over billing, or contract underperformance and an inability to meet
the contract specifications (ACFE, 2010). Consequently, as stated by the Office of the New York
Comptroller (2010), procurement activities that involve corruption commonly fall into one of three
general categories:
Demand for payment occurs when an Information Technology Manager receives improper bribes or
kickback from the customer, in exchange for

My Defining Moment Analysis
I think as doctors and nurses, most of us have had that defining moment in our lives when we knew
we were supposed to be in medicine. For me, that moment was about twenty years ago. I was outside
helping my mom in the front yard. She was pushing a lawnmower and tripped over a root. She fell
hard to the ground splitting her knee open to the bone. I ran inside the house; not to get my dad, but to
go get a towel and bandages to stop the bleeding. I begged and pleaded with my mother to let me
come with her to the ER. Reluctantly she gave in and agreed to let me come. From the moment I
walked in the door, I was fascinated with everything I saw. The doctors and nursing scurrying around,
the lights, the sounds; I couldn t soak it up fast enough. I must have asked that poor ER ... Show more

He was so kind and patient with me. He sat there and explained everything to me. He pulled back each
layer of skin as he was working, and explained what I was looking at. He showed me how to sterilize
a wound and why it was important (he even let me squirt saline into the wound to help him wash it
out). I remember watching him, and not wanting to leave the ER that night. It was at that point I knew
that I wanted to work in medicine.
Fast forward twenty years and my love for medicine has not changed; in fact I think it has only
deepened. I started working in a high intensity medical ICU over three years ago, and have never
looked back. I consider myself incredibly lucky to be able to say that I truly love my job. My face
lights up when I talk about critical care and the things I have been a part of. Honestly, there days when
I would rather be at the hospital learning about and caring for a sick patient than at home with my
family. I live for those stressful

Electro-Chemical Cells Lab Report
Unit P4 Electro Chemical Cells.
Redox reaction.
The procedure for producing EMF in an electrochemical cell is due to an internal chemical reaction
which is the redox reaction this is a reaction that involves electrons being transferred from the
reducing agent to the oxidizing agent.
The reaction is between the electrolyte and negative electrode which will create a buildup of free
electrons, each of which has a negative charge at the anode of the battery which is the negative
terminal.
The chemical reaction which occurs between the electrolyte and the positive electrode internally in the
battery then produces a buildup of positive ions, which are atoms that are missing electrons. The
positive ions buildup at the cathode of the battery which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They do not require being fully discharged before re charging unlike some other batteries (No memory

Disadvantages:
High temperatures can cause damage to the battery cause it to degrade at a much faster rate than
normally.
If the battery is entirely discharged it cannot then be recharged and is no good.
Lithium batteries have a chance of bursting into flames if used under incorrect conditions.
Alkaline batteries:
In an alkaline battery the anode of the battery is constructed of a zinc powder and the cathode of the
battery is made of manganese dioxide, the electrolyte in an alkaline battery is potassium hydroxide.
The majority of alkaline batteries are not able to be charged after they have been discharged. Some
alkaline batteries can be recharged which involves the reversal of the chemical reaction between the
anode and cathode; this will allow the battery to be either partially or completely recharged. Charging
some alkaline batteries can result in the casing of the battery splitting and

Poehler Antique Mall In Empori Unpacking The Object
1. Unpacking the Object
What is this object? An antique wooden chair
What does the object look like? Antique, old, worn wood. There are curvy edges on the backrest
portion. The wood is very worn on the seat part, and there is a lot of dust on the chair. The right side of
the chair is broken in a jagged break.
Where did you obtain this object? I found this at the Poehler Antique Mall in Emporia, KS. The
antique mall is located on Commercial Street.
Where can you find similar objects? At this antique store, there were tons of old chairs. You could find
more there. I would assume that a lot of antique stores have old pieces of furniture like this chair.
There are probably a lot of these types of chairs in older style homes. They could be found in table and
chair sets, or they could be possibly found in a church.
What is it made of? Wood and screws.
Who made it? Back in history the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I found this object because I like upcycling. Taking old antique items and turning them into something
more modern and useful. I think restoring an object and making it personal to yourself.
Who or what does this object represent? I think this object represents middle class people. Often the
middle class is overlooked and are considered average. This chair is overlooked too because it is a
piece of furniture that almost everyone has, and we don t often think about how the chair got there or
how the chair was made. I think this is similar with a lot of people in the world. Many people go
unnoticed. I hope that by adding color to this old chair, will be like the colorful personalities many
people have, which makes them stand out above others.
What does this object mean to you? I became invested in this chair, I spent a lot of time and money on
this project. I hope the chair will add a new style to my room. It means something special to me
because I took something old and gave it a new look, but the object still does the same

Defining Zero-Based Budgeting
ZERO BASED BUDGETING
What is Zero Based Budgeting?
Zero based budgeting is an innovative approach towards budgeting in corporations that is based on the
framing of assumptions about costs and benefits each time the budget is prepared. A budget is a plan
for the allocation of financial resources by an organization. Organizations possess finite financial
resources that managers allocate among various projects with the expectation that the utilization of
financial resources during the operation of these projects will enable the organization to earn a
targeted level of revenues or profits.
Like every plan, the budget is based on some assumptions about what the costs and revenues will be
affected by, and what the magnitude of these effects will be. These assumptions may change each time
a budget is made and thus may need to be incorporated in the new budget. As opposed to the
conventional form of budgeting which will be discussed later in this paper, zero based budgeting does
not assume that the assumptions made at the time of the last budget are still valid in the present
context. Therefore, the assumptions have to be developed again and justified before senior
management in order to win approval for the allocation of financial resources planned in the budget
(Prokopenko, 1987).
In revising the assumptions afresh, in zero based budgeting, the planner does not base his or her
estimates for the next year on the basis of the figures of the previous year. This is the historic

  • 2. Bitter Political Enemies In Badger s and Choksi article How We Became Bitter Political Enemies as published by the New York Times, the authors discuss the matter of the worsening political relations between the Democrat and Republican party. This article presents the sore relations of the two parties as an occurrence that has only significantly worsened over the last 50 years due to both sides of the aisle fostering a growing animosity towards the other side. The animosity, however, has evolved from disagreeing over policies and legislation, to outright disliking someone just due to the party they represent. As a result, the Democrat and Republican party tension has become more personal over recent decades, and bipartisanship has suffered due to this. Those who identify as either a Democrat or Republican view the other party through a negative lens. For example, Badger and Choksi concluded that individuals who affiliated with one of the two parties perceive that the opposing party isn t just misguided, ... In short, we use our political affiliation as means of identifying our own person; similar to how one identifies as a Christian (religion background) or as someone who is LGBT+ (sexuality). Robert Burns states this in his famous poem To a Mouse, this is believed to have influenced the title of the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. The reason this line from the poem influences the novel does not seem apparent at first, but by the end of the novel it becomes clear. This novel focuses on two friends, Lennie and George who are migrant workers in the 1930 s during the great depression. They move from ranch to ranch with each other, which sets them apart from most because they have each other, while the majority of migrant workers travel alone. George is a small man who is smart and responsible, and takes care of Lennie. Lennie is a very large, strong, man, but he is very simple minded, as he is a little mentally challenged. Although Lennie seems intimidating, he is a very nice man and has the mentality of a child. The novel focuses on the dream that George and Lennie have of getting their own farm. This is a very important component of the novel, because presumably, it is the idea of George and Lennie s dream that inspired the novel s title. Steinbeck conveys the message of Robert Burns poem by showing how easily a dream or plan can be shattered. According to the article, it is explained how archeology have changed horizons compared to previous years. The case discussed in this article focuses on the fact that in order for archeology to have greater impact in communities and in general, it should deviate a bit from its merely scholar course to a more socially oriented pathway, ruled by community collaboration and committed service to the underserved members of the community. It states that former ways of archeology were not particularly focused on social that is why occasionally the most oppressed members of the society were excluded and deprived of their rights. Essay The Use of Drugs by 1950s Artists A movement arose among the artists of 1950s America as a reaction to the time s prevailing conformity and affluence whose members attempted to extract all they could from life, often in a strikingly self destructive way. Specifically, the Beat writers and jazz musicians of the era found escape from society in drugs and fast living. But what exactly led so many to this dangerous path? Why did they choose drugs and speed to implement their rebellion? A preliminary look at the contradictions that prevailed in 1950s American society may give some insight into these artists world. As Halberstam pointed out, it could be dangerous to alter a system that was working so well (xi). Fear of change, as well as fear of a sudden atomic death, led to anxiety within the superficially satisfied culture. This nebulous fear of change, which needed to be directed at some enemy, found sanctuary in vehement anti Communism (McNally 95), most extremely manifested in Senator McCarthy s witch hunts in the 1950s. Anxiety focused on Russia; as Allen Ginsberg facetiously wrote in America, The Russia wants to eat us alive (43). The Cold War indirectly resulting from this anxiety brought with it the constant threat of annihilation. The fearsome power of nuclear weaponry had been demonstrated against Japan and could at any time be turned against the United States, whose citizens would then serve as sitting ducks for their own destruction. As tensions mounted, preparations of sorts were made for nuclear war. Schoolchildren crawled under their desks during air raids, probably knowing at some level that they could not hide from a bomb. Both Baz Luhrmann and Franco Zeffirelli are able to portray this perfectly in their own different ways during the major fight scene between Tybalt and Mercutio. Baz Luhrmann is able to portray love in this fight scene with dramatic and intense music, along with fast paced camera work and close up shots. The close ups, for example, are very important in displaying the love between Mercutio and Romeo. Whilst Mercutio intervenes between the fight of Romeo and Tybalt, Luhrmann uses close ups to demonstrate how much Romeo and Mercutio mean to each other. From the close up of the two, the audience can clearly see the distress that is shown on Romeo s face when he sees that Mercutio is dead. For the love of family that is displayed throughout this scene especially by Tybalt, Luhrmann uses fast paced intense music to show how heated it is for Tybalt, and how much he dislikes the Montague household, due to the love for his own household, the Capulets. Since bread was eaten a lot in Salem Massachusetts, this philosophy does have some valid points. The symptoms of ergot poisoning match what the supposed victims of witchcraft had as well; creating another supporting point to this theory. Aguirre denied and was more concerned about the knife that he went inside to the station to pay for his gas and told the cashier Lopez to call the police. As Aguirre went into his van and drove off he noticed that the man with the knife had went in to the store and was struggling with the victim Lopez. Aguirre then pulled off the freeway and drove to a nearby bowling alley to ask a security guard to call the police. Aguirre returned 30 minutes later to the Shamrock gas station right when the police began arriving. Right when Aguirre arrived he began identifying Deluna as the man with the knife, except this time Deluna no longer had on a white shirt. Around the same time two other witnesses observed a hispanic man jogging east away from the Shamrock; in an untucked white dress shirt rolled up sleeves. Both witnessed that it was Deluna running away from the Shamrock gas station. Now it was in the hands of the witnesses and police officers on what information to rely on to catch the killer. Though the first witness Baker was face to face with the attacker he said that the killer had a mustache. However the last two witnesses that encountered the man jogging away from the gas station stated that the man had no beard or visible hair on the face. They described his face as clean shaved. Because Carlos Deluna was running away from the scene and looked like the attacker, police suspected him and arrested him immediately. Police found him hiding a few blocks ... • 47. Evaluating Unethical Decision Consequences Of An Organization Evaluating Unethical Decision Consequences This paper provides an identification of potential means whereby Information Technology (IT) managers, acting on the organization s behalf as purchase agents with IT vendors, participate in fraudulent activities. Further included are a series of recommendations for measures and actions that chief information officers or chief technology officers should consider as mandates to reduce fraud and other unethical practices while protecting the reputation of the organization, and the infrastructure of the computer systems of the organization. Finally, the paper elaborates regarding how these identified measures reduce the frequency of fraudulent activities. Identification of Potential Information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Identified Types of Fraudulent Activity At almost any stage, there is a potential for fraud occurring in the IT procurement process. Fraud activities may include a range of activities on the part of a fraudulent manager. As reported by the ACFE (2010), these fraudulent activities on the part of procurement managers potentially include various actions that negatively affect the organization. Accordingly, some identified types of fraudulent activities reported in the ACFE (2010) study included categories such as: selecting only information technology projects that provide higher return values with specifications tailored to limit competitive bidding, or instituted through abuse by the IT managers of confidentiality. Moreover, other potential fraudulent activity might include manipulations in the preparation stage of the contract resulting in limits to the submission of and evaluation relative to contract bids, as well as the potential for instances of false invoice and over billing, or contract underperformance and an inability to meet the contract specifications (ACFE, 2010). Consequently, as stated by the Office of the New York Comptroller (2010), procurement activities that involve corruption commonly fall into one of three general categories: Demand for payment occurs when an Information Technology Manager receives improper bribes or kickback from the customer, in exchange for ... • 48. My Defining Moment Analysis I think as doctors and nurses, most of us have had that defining moment in our lives when we knew we were supposed to be in medicine. For me, that moment was about twenty years ago. I was outside helping my mom in the front yard. She was pushing a lawnmower and tripped over a root. She fell hard to the ground splitting her knee open to the bone. I ran inside the house; not to get my dad, but to go get a towel and bandages to stop the bleeding. I begged and pleaded with my mother to let me come with her to the ER. Reluctantly she gave in and agreed to let me come. From the moment I walked in the door, I was fascinated with everything I saw. The doctors and nursing scurrying around, the lights, the sounds; I couldn t soak it up fast enough. I must have asked that poor ER ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was so kind and patient with me. He sat there and explained everything to me. He pulled back each layer of skin as he was working, and explained what I was looking at. He showed me how to sterilize a wound and why it was important (he even let me squirt saline into the wound to help him wash it out). I remember watching him, and not wanting to leave the ER that night. It was at that point I knew that I wanted to work in medicine. Fast forward twenty years and my love for medicine has not changed; in fact I think it has only deepened. I started working in a high intensity medical ICU over three years ago, and have never looked back. I consider myself incredibly lucky to be able to say that I truly love my job. My face lights up when I talk about critical care and the things I have been a part of. Honestly, there days when I would rather be at the hospital learning about and caring for a sick patient than at home with my family. I live for those stressful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Electro-Chemical Cells Lab Report Unit P4 Electro Chemical Cells. Redox reaction. The procedure for producing EMF in an electrochemical cell is due to an internal chemical reaction which is the redox reaction this is a reaction that involves electrons being transferred from the reducing agent to the oxidizing agent. The reaction is between the electrolyte and negative electrode which will create a buildup of free electrons, each of which has a negative charge at the anode of the battery which is the negative terminal. The chemical reaction which occurs between the electrolyte and the positive electrode internally in the battery then produces a buildup of positive ions, which are atoms that are missing electrons. The positive ions buildup at the cathode of the battery which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They do not require being fully discharged before re charging unlike some other batteries (No memory effect). Have the capability of handling hundreds of charge and discharge cycles. Disadvantages: High temperatures can cause damage to the battery cause it to degrade at a much faster rate than normally. If the battery is entirely discharged it cannot then be recharged and is no good. Lithium batteries have a chance of bursting into flames if used under incorrect conditions. Alkaline batteries: In an alkaline battery the anode of the battery is constructed of a zinc powder and the cathode of the battery is made of manganese dioxide, the electrolyte in an alkaline battery is potassium hydroxide. The majority of alkaline batteries are not able to be charged after they have been discharged. Some alkaline batteries can be recharged which involves the reversal of the chemical reaction between the anode and cathode; this will allow the battery to be either partially or completely recharged. Charging some alkaline batteries can result in the casing of the battery splitting and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. Defining Zero-Based Budgeting ZERO BASED BUDGETING What is Zero Based Budgeting? Zero based budgeting is an innovative approach towards budgeting in corporations that is based on the framing of assumptions about costs and benefits each time the budget is prepared. A budget is a plan for the allocation of financial resources by an organization. Organizations possess finite financial resources that managers allocate among various projects with the expectation that the utilization of financial resources during the operation of these projects will enable the organization to earn a targeted level of revenues or profits. Like every plan, the budget is based on some assumptions about what the costs and revenues will be affected by, and what the magnitude of these effects will be. These assumptions may change each time a budget is made and thus may need to be incorporated in the new budget. As opposed to the conventional form of budgeting which will be discussed later in this paper, zero based budgeting does not assume that the assumptions made at the time of the last budget are still valid in the present context. Therefore, the assumptions have to be developed again and justified before senior management in order to win approval for the allocation of financial resources planned in the budget (Prokopenko, 1987). In revising the assumptions afresh, in zero based budgeting, the planner does not base his or her estimates for the next year on the basis of the figures of the previous year. This is the historic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
