The Role Of Fashion During The 1920 S
The 1920 s was a time of great change. (Some changes that happened during 1920s were the nation
s wealth doubled, more americans lived in the cities, advancements in technology, and women being
able to vote.) One big change that occurred during the 1920 s social shift was the fashion industry.
Fashionis something that reflects the beliefs and social standards of that time. This industry, along
with others, had an immense boom during the 1920s. The evolution of fashion during this decade
is described as ... abandoning fussiness and unnecessary details (Anne McEvoy). Fashion played
an important role in the 1920s, for it was a reflection of a period of escapism, women s
independence, a relaxation of morals and standards, and the evolving... Show more content on

Women were looking to become their own person, they wore comfortable and colorful clothing,
they worked, and they went to parties. For once they wanted to live for themselves. A flapper is
one women most people associate with the 1920s. Flappers were generally young women who
bobbed their hair (cut it short). They wore short, loose fitting dresses and enhanced their faces with
makeup (Cynthia Johnson and Lawrence W. Backer). Being a flapper was one way women could
be independent and not be highly criticized for.
Flappers weren t just recognized for the fashionable clothes, it described their unconventional
attitudes and behavior ( Anne McEvoy). Flappers and young women in the 1920s used fashion
as a way to speak for them, wearing certain things to let other people know that they wanted to be
more free and modern as a society. Flappers and young women weren t the only women who
wanted change, older women wanted change too, by fighting for their right to vote. They also
used fashion to reflect what they were fighting for. Many liberated suffragettes wore bright red
lipstick as a symbol of their newfound voices ( by Cynthia Johnston and Lawrence W. Backer).
Women s independence was one of the biggest social changes that occurred.
Women and men started to become more laid back and relaxed about the high expectation that were
expected from the older generations. On both sides of the Atlantic life was now fun, one

The British Colonies
In the 1400s France, Britain, The Dutch and Span were rapidly expanding their empires
globally. These nations were vigorously looking for new sources of income and resources for
their nation. Years previously, these nations participated in extremely costly wars in Europe.
These wars, not only had a negative effect on their citizens morality, they also depleted the
governments fiscal positions. The solution to this (money) problem was to exploit the resources
of the New World by setting up colonies and territories that could send cheap raw material back
to their respected countries to be refined into finished products that in return could be taken to
market. The readings from this semester mainly focused on the evaluation of the British colonies,
this is where my focus will steer you. From the birth of the British settlements, the colonies have
under gone several different economic policies changes. They first started off as a dependant
society, to a society with slaves, to finally settling as slave society which propelled the once
settlers to the brink of a revaluation. The East India Company sponsored settlements to the new
worlds, to all that where willing settle the new world with the promise of striking it rich form gold
as the Spanish where doing in the Caribbean or a large parasol of land. In the thirteenth century,
when the British settlers first arrived on the eastern coast of the new America, it was late fall with
winter fast approaching. That winter was

Main Street In Lake Mills Research Paper
Imagine going on a drive with your family on a beautiful evening. You drive through small towns
with magnificent trees, 100 s of years old, lining the streets. If you drove down that road many of
times, you would know that the trees were amazing. Wouldn t it be a shame to drive down that
street again, and those beautiful trees were gone, and a sidewalk there instead? The trees lining
Main Streetin Lake Mills shouldn t be cut down because the road detours will be an inconvenience
to citizens and businesses, the trees give a natural setting in the downtown area, and the estimated
4.8 million dollars being spent on this project could be used for other funding in the city. One

Also, according to the same article, at some points when concrete is being poured, citizens who
are living on Main Street may not be able to access their homes. This will cause an
inconvenience, as most people work during the day, and when they come home from work, they
may not be able to access their homes. Next, also according to the article South Main Street
Reconstruction Still in Planning Stages By Matt Gardner (www.hngnews.com), the planned
detour as of right now is from Interstate 94 to Highway 26, to Highway 18. Another option would
be to go from Main Street to Madison Street, then heading out Lake Street and to Highway Q.
People who lives on Highway Q, Family s are concerned this road will become overly crowded,
which will lead to traffic jams and accidents. In addition, there will be no way around Pinnacle
Drive and Topel Street. I spoke with Tara Topel, one of the owners of Topel s Towing and Repair,
and asked her some questions. First, I asked, Do you think that your business will be affected by
the Main Street construction project? Topel replied by saying, Yes, it most definitely. `We are

The Responsibility For Romeo And Juliet s Tragedy
The Responsibility for Romeo and Juliet s Tragedy Who s responsible for Romeo and Juliet s
death? There must ve been someone in Verona who caused them to take their lives. Romeo is to
blame because he fell in love with no basis whatsoever, he killed his wife s cousin, and was the
main reason Juliet killed herself. When Romeo met Juliet, he was only amazed by the pure beauty
of her face and forgot all about his last love, Rosaline. O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright!

New Learning Opportunities for Adult Learners Essay
New Learning Opportunities for Adult Learners
The concept of adults as learners emerged both in this country and in Europe shortly after World
War I; however, only in the last few decades has the theory of adult learning matured. Knowles,
Tough, Houle, and Park, among others, have written extensively on the idea of the adult learner. In
Tennant s book (1997), he discussed Knowles adult learning theory. Knowles used the term
andragogy to label adult learning theory. The andragogical model of the adult learner is based on
the assumptions that adults need to know; adults have a need to be self directed learners and
have a self concept of being responsible for their own decisions and for their own lives; adults bring

It is a popular and useful instructional medium for a number of reasons. It is easily accessible, it
supports flexible storage and display options, it provides a simple yet powerful publishing format
and a means to incorporate multiple media elements (Henke,1997). The possibilities of Web based
instructions are boundless and seems to have the potential to meet the needs of adult learners.
The WWW can provide stimulating material to enhance and enrich the learning experience by
using graphics, sound, video and virtual environments. It supports learning in own space, own pace,
and own time (Henke,1997). It has limitless possibilities of interactive computer multimedia
instruction. The potential benefits include personalized instruction, active learning, instant
feedback, real world simulation, as well as faster and more effective teaching and empowerment of
learners (McManus, 1995). With all these benefits, WWW as an instruction delivery medium can
indeed enhance learning and meet the needs of adult learners. In addition, media are not mere
vehicles that deliver instruction but they are important components of the learning process. Studies
have shown certain media attributes are necessary for specific learning tasks, learning situations,
and learners characteristics.
Web based learningprovides flexibility,

Concert At Boy Band Concert
Introduction At boy band concerts, the general admission standing floor is an open space in
front of the stage; concert attendees buy tickets at a single price and try to get as close to the
stage as possible by lining up in front of the concert venue as early as twelve hours before doors
open (Stone, 2015). The vast majority of the concert attendees have the same motivation: 1) to
get a clear view of the stage and 2) to be as close to the front as possible. These motivations in
fans could be combined with such a feeling of desperation that any kinds of hierarchies (like
position int he crowd) or culturally specific paradigms of politeness that could govern their
behavior are dissolved. In the midst of a boy band concert, the general admission floor, constituted
of at least a hundred individuals that are separated by no groups or hierarchies, often sees
widespread pushing at the very least as an emergent property, which can then erupt into more
intense types of violence. For example, at a One Direction concert in Lima, Peru, the pushing in the
general admission crowd was so intense that forty seven people had to be treated for asphyxia
(Gusmaroli, 2014).
On an individual level, certain members of the crowd may begin instigate pushing or physical
conflict because of a self consuming passion for the performers, irritability or ruthlessness. If
confronted with a certain trigger or stimuli (such as the boy band taking the stage for the first time,
or being pushed by

Character Analysis Of Little Women In Little Women
Margaret Meg March Brook, the oldest March sister in Louisa May Alcott s classic novel Little
Women, is demure yet fierce in her loyalty. Although she cares too much about other s opinions,
she learns to focus on kindness rather than charm and propriety, and value hard work over
wealth. Known to be motherly, Meg loves and encourages her friends and younger sisters. She
embodies warmth and compassion in her family throughout the book, first when she is living at
home with her mother and sisters, and later when she is married. Meg is loyal, compassionate,
and gentle. She uses her loving nature to encourage those around her from the time the story
opens, and she is encouraging her sisters to purchase gifts for their hard working mother for
Christmas rather than for themselves, to when she is married to John Brook and described as a
most devoted little wife (page 278). I also put forth my best effort to encourage and care for those I
love. Although she is usually quite docile, when her aunt tells her that she can t love John Brook
because he is poor, Meg shows her strong sense of loyalty, exclaiming, I couldn t do better if I
waited half my life! (page 225). Alcott says that Meg hardly knew herself, she felt so brave and
independent , and describes her as Looking prettier than ever in her earnestness . Although often
reserved, it would be a mistake to describe Margaret March as weak; her strength is evident when
fighting for those she loves, and, if one

Samsung Mobile Will Introduce A Brand New Samsung Galaxy
Samsung Mobile will introduce a brand new Samsung Galaxy S8 model in March 2017. It is
one of the largest mobile events of the year since Samsung is very popular and is the most
competitive product against Apple iPhone. Samsung Mobile is a brand of the Samsung
Corporation and this particular brand is very familiar to a lot of people around the world. Many
appliances made by Samsung, such as washers, dryers, and TVs, are very famous. Samsung s
mobile industry was very new to the market 10 years ago. However, technology and convenience
made Samsung mobile phones become some of the most popular devices in the 21st century. Their
products have been sold to millions of consumers and Samsung Mobile s products continuously
rank as best sellers. I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Information can now reach out too many consumers within a few minutes while relying less
upon a third party seller. Samsung Galaxy is always a great line of products that everyone is
waiting for every year since it always brings the latest innovating technologies. The new phone
will be equipped with very good resolution and an exceedingly powerful processor to run any
applications smoothly. Recording 4K video and mobile gaming will also see vast
improvements. The phone will run on the latest Android software (Android Nougat) with many
new features (Reisinger D, 2016). Therefore, this product is already shaping up to be very
expensive to own. The previous product was the Samsung Galaxy S7, and it costs over $600
dollars. The Galaxy S8 may cost higher since it will have a better battery and more RAM (random
access memory) to satisfy consumers. It does not matter how good a phone can be if the battery
cannot keep up with it. Every mobile manufacturer has invested in improving the battery for their
products so consumers can enjoy more.
The Galaxy S8 also needs to keep up with Apple iPhone upgrades every year. Apple also comes
out a new iPhone every year to compete with other mobile brands. In 2017, Virtual Reality is very
popular because many gaming console manufacturers such as Sony and Microsoft has been heavily
focused on making virtual reality games for consumers. Samsung mobile has been introducing its
own virtual reality devices to be compatible

New Ideas from the Past
New Ideas from the Past Transcendentalism describes a school of thought which teaches that each
person possesses a different set of beliefs that will ultimately lead the person to find an individual
view of truth. It teaches that everyone comes into this world morally sound, and society eventually
becomes responsible for each of their downfalls, because society tries to force its own outlook
about what truth is and how to find truth onto the individual. Problems which plague an individual
can be traced back to parallel the larger problems of the evil society at large. This not only includes
the pressures seen through laws and government, but spans over all influences of the human mind,
for example, religion and philosophy. In Ralph Waldo Emersons Historic Notes of Life and Letters
in New England, he wrote about a specific era in history that teemed with people who started to
believe these ideals three hundred years before he was writing. He asserts that that this
individualistic, self reliant way of thinking was not new, and should not be limited to influence
only one area of human life, but all aspects of society. While the official Transcendental movement
took place in the 1830s, Emerson argued that main ideas from the movement had been causing
conflict for centuries. He claimed when new ideas like these come to the surface, it can be hard to
identify directly where tension with old ideas is coming from at first, but the effects of the conflict
are widespread: At

Peter Elbow s The Doubting Game And Believing Game
In Peter Elbow s essay The Doubting Game and Believing Game he discusses the two types of
games that an individual can use to look for the truth in a situation. The Doubting game, is when
an individual believes everything is false, and prove each assertion wrong, and the Believing
game, is the process where an individual believes that all assertions are correct, and go over each
one separately. With both games, there are certain rules that must be followed.
Taking a look at the doubting game, Elbow writes that in order to doubt well, it helps if you make a
special effort to extricate yourself from the assertions.. (Lines 12 and 13). Additionally, placing the
assertions against one another, letting them work against each other for the pursuit ... Show more

A Broken Teddy Book Report
A Broken Teddy
Rick Yancey s amazing novel, the 5th wave, has topped most young adult novels today, due to
the authors exceptional talent to put his fictional characters in the most realistic and relatable
situations. Typically, most well known authors are capable of this feat, but Yancey went above

most of all, is the challenging questions that Yancey leaves his readers to think about. He is deep,

Hip Hop Vs Jazz Music Essay
What if someone would make a mash up of the two music genres, jazz and hip hop? Jazz music
can date to the early 1900 s but there is no specified founder (www.jazzinamerica.org). Hip hop
can also trace back to an approximate start date, but there is not just one creator (Errey 1997). Jazz
and hip hop have many similarities along with their numerous differences. Jazzmusic and hip hop
music are both genres of music that have long histories and have lots of similarities and
differences, too. First of all, the historical timeline of jazz is very long and complicated, leading
to no single founder of the genre. A thick horde of dark bodies frames into circular gatherings
maybe five or six hundred people moving so as to the pulsations of the music (www.nytimes.com).
This could be an African country or just about everywhere (www.nytimes.com). But, this is New
Orleans, The Big Easy (www.nytimes.com). Crazy, right, how diverse this country is? Anyway,
this is where some people believe jazz first started. However, this source claims, The city that was
the birthplace of jazz was New Orleans...would... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One difference is that both genres use different instruments. Jazz uses many orchestral
instruments, while hip hop, as stated previously, uses mostly computer generated sounds and
beats. An example of this is comparing The Sound of Silence and Hotline Bling s instrumental
use. The Sound of Silence uses a trumpet while Hotline Bling uses technologically edited
sounds. Another difference is the genres birthplaces. Jazz was in the New Orleans area, while
hip hop was more near New York City (Kumar 2011). The genres uses of improvisation are
starkly different (Kumar 2011). Jazz music usually has one musician who goes off and does an
improvised thing as the other musicians keep playing the melody, while in hip hop music, the
melody doesn t usually keep playing while the person rapping

Bromoacetanilide Synthesis
a.Discussion of Yields crude, purified, % recovery chemical reasons Synthesis of Stilbene
dibromide The experiment yielded a mass of 0.32g of dibromostilbene thus a difference of 0.6g
from the theoretical resulting in an 85% yield. A result in less than 100% yield may be due to
the solvent used during the filtration process. The solvent could have dissolved some product
and thus resulted in the loss of product during filtration. Synthesis of Bromoacetanilide In the
synthesis of bromoacetanilide, the crude yield was 0.69g and the purified yield was 0.53g (a
difference of 0.26g from the theoretical and resulting in a 67% yield). The recovery of the pure
product from the initial crystallization was 77%. The less than 100% yield could have been a
result of adding too much hot solvent. Adding too much would result in a solution that is
unsaturated and therefore when cooled, some of the product remains dissolved in the solvent. This
would cause fewer crystals to recrystallize and decrease the yield. b.Discussion of Physical
Properties evidence for correct product Synthesis of Stilbene dibromide The measured melting

Holbrook Perspective On Democracy
Holbrook s and Rose s perspectives on democracy is that some people are taking advantage of
what they have which isn t fair for the people who struggle to maintain their lifestyle with less,
while other people have more opportunities/privileges. Holbrook s response on democracy is that
she feels that they should have equal rights, just as she does. She finds it wrong that the government
is careless when it comes to the people that they think don t need the resources, supplies, when
they really do. To add on to, Holbrook writes on page 114, That same government that issues us
two rolls per day, 94% of the days since our last 6% cut. Two rolls. (Page 114). Holbrook says this
to imply and emphasize the fact that the government is stubborn and won t give more than two rolls
per day which will. In addition, Holbrook states, The same government that issues foodstamps for

The Amazon Rainforest Covering more than forty percent of South America is the Amazon
Rainforest. It s known for being the largest rainforest on the planet. Most of the jungle lies in
Brazil. The Amazon Rainforest also holds the Amazon River. According to the National Science
Foundation, the amazon river is the longest river in the world by volume and contains twenty
percent of the Earths freshwater. But the Nile River is the longest when calculating width.
Being as big a it is, the amazon holds a massive number of dfferent types of species of wildlife
with different kinds of sub ecosystems to provide for them. When I think of the Amazon I first
think of the terrestrial ecosystems. These are the land based eviroments. I m going to take the
first part of this project to talk about the terrestrial ecosystem in the amazon and all the wildlife
that it holds. According to WorldAtlas there are 427 types of mammals, 1,300 types of birds, 378
types of reptiles, more than 400 kinds of amphibians, over 80,000 types of plants and trees, and
estimation of over 2 million differnt types of insects. Unfortunatley I cannot go over ever single
one of these unique species so I will talk about the more popular species that benefit the jungle. The
rainforest is divided in four layers: forest floor, understory, canopy and emergent. The canopy is the

The, The Land Of Opportunity
It is an old problem for societies, how to take care of and rehabilitate the downtrodden. America is
known as the land of opportunity : where anyone can make it no matter their nationality, color, or
sex. And while much of America aspires to, and many Americans achieve a life of relative
economic stability, there are those who, for various reasons, have not been so lucky. Despite the
numerous non profit, and governmental aid programs designed to assist and rehabilitate the
homeless, the homeless population continues to rise (according to a 2013 U.S. Mayors report, 52%
of surveyed cities reported growing homeless populations) (Cochran, 8). For those unfortunate
enough to find themselves without a home, clawing their way out of homelessnesson their own has
proven to be extremely difficult. Not only are the homeless at a disadvantage in the job
marketplace, but many homeless grow a strong connection to the homeless community that
welcomed them in upon landing on the street, and are reluctant to leave it, even if that means
remaining homeless. While the government and aid organizations are attempting to minimize the
crisis, past solutions either provide housing for the few lucky homeless, or they attempt to provide
jobs, but not both. Given the need for a package deal, one potential (yet underused) solution is the
creation of community run working towns which would be able to provide a strong incentive for
whole communities of homeless to move in and begin working, thus

Papers On Psalm 22
Psalms is the biggest book of the Old Testament. It is rich with many wonderful teachings along
with love and praise for God. The pages are bound with every type of emotion from grief to elated
worship. Anyone from any culture, race, or section of society can find common ground with at
least one psalm. We can also use the Psalmsin many different situations whether that be for a
community of people or for ourselves. The book Dictionary of the Old Testament: Wisdom, Poetry
Writings explains this on page 579, The psalms have remained a central fixture for corporate
worship and private devotion over the centuries. Readers have been enamored by their poetic
language, rich imagery and stark honesty. Moreover, there are many different genres... Show more

In this section, we will be reviewing Psalms 22. Although a lament psalm may seem dark and
negative, it can actually be very a beneficial prayer to God. Steven I. Lawson explains the
importance of this genre in his book Psalms 1 75, These highly emotionally charged psalms
record the writer s heart cry to God for divine deliverance from the psalmist s trouble and pain.
As humans, we are not able to control the emotions that we feel and at what extent we feel them.
Meanwhile, we are able to control our actions. Psalm 22:12 14 reads, Many bulls surround me;
strong bulls of Bashan encircle me. Roaring lions that tear their prey open their mouths wide
against me. I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to
wax; it has melted within me . In my case, I bottled up my emotions from a very young age. I
would make a point not to show my sadness what so ever. When I entered my teenage years this
backlashed. Due to the fact that I had no outlet for my emotions, I found another. I started
cutting myself at the age of 15. I did not know why I did. In the meantime, I was so confused.
Hundreds of conflicting emotions filled my heart like they do to any other teenage. I was
terrified that my parents would find out that I cut in places where no one would see. It was not
until two years later that I found out that self harm was a sin. On the other hand, a safer less
sinful way of dealing with our emotions is reading lament prayers. Davida Charney states in his
article Maintaining Innocence Before a Divine Hearer, For those seeing the psalms as therapeutic,
the laments record moment by moment turns in emotion; a despairing individual is eventually
enabled to affirm faith in God We can also see that the passage moves into praise after the writer
is finished grieving: You who fear the Lord, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him!
Revere him, all you descendants of Israel! For he

Why Did The Council Give Equality The Job Of A Street...
Council of Vocations Why did the council give equality the job of street sweeper? Street
sweeper one of the worst jobs you could get. The council thought that by putting equality in one
of the worst positions, they could keep him from being different . Equality provered them wrong
really quick ,and they were somehow surprised. The society believed in no change but equality
had different ideas. The council was scared because they knew equality asked questions and if
asked the right questions he could expose the council for what they were doing. Another reason
the council put equality as a street sweeper is that equality could change the society in a good
way which they didn t want. Equality had good ideas and they don t like different. Equality had
good ideas such as the lightbulb and the experiments that led to the being able to rediscover

Introduction
The study of game like learning systems to improve the quality of learning of students is a
fascinating field of research. In this paper, I will discuss about the various concepts relating to
constructionism framework for designing game like learning system which is based on Li, Cheng,
and Liu s (2013) article on the same. The purpose of this article is to describe the approach of the
game like learning systems and the results achieved after the implementation of this system. This
article is closely related to the game design industry as most of the educational games aim to create
a game like learning system and it is further explained in this paper.

The article describes an experiment to determine efficiency of the game like learning systems,
which was conducted on first year students of an engineering school. Before the experiment the
students were taught about the basic algorithmic skills such as conditions and iterations for 1.5
month in traditional lectures. Later, the students were introduced to a game like learning system
called Train build and program it. This system was designed to teach the students the use of
algorithmic thinking skills including object oriented concepts, conditions, iteration and object
communication. Students could either build trains using the drag and drop by using 3D blocks or
they could use the computational code to program the train system to run. The results were

The Between The Thorey And The Practice Essay
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE THOREY AND THE PRACTICE?
The article of THE RIGHT TO DIE STILL SEEMS MORE THEORY THAN PRACTICE takes a
pro side of the right to die. Due to the problems of protecting the patients from abuse (from ones
who might want the patient dead or prolonging life for ulterior motives), and that the decisions
and views of ethics are been made from professional who may or may not know the patient or the
family well. These decisions such as quality of life are being define and made by society. It seems
as though that the theory is the battle over the patients rights, and the practice is the battle to
enforce them. This battle is catapulted from the fear of liability (civil and criminal), from the
institutes and the doctors. These situations usually leave the patient powerless.
HOW HAS THE TECHNOLOGY AND CAPABILITIES OF MEDICINEAFFECTED THE
DEBATE?
Since the advancement of technology and capability of medicine, the debate has risen to a level
of which it can t be ignored. The fact of prolonging someone life has to be a factor since it is
possibility of prolonging it comfortably. Before there were advancement of technology and
capability of medicine most American died at home, with their love ones around and family
doctors which would provide comfort and solace, also in some occasion the doctor would give
extra dose of morphine for the pain or to help asses in death.

Reducing The Homeless Population Of San Diego Essay
Reducing the Homeless Population in San Diego County While the homeless population in the
United States has declined over the past five years it is still much higher then it needs to be.
Currently San Diego County has the fifth highest homeless population in the United States. The
homeless population of San Diego County is mostly located in and around the downtown and
beach areas of the county however it has started to spread into more areas of the county to include
the San Diego River area of Santee. While there is a portion of the homeless population that
choose to be homeless a large number of them are homeless due to falling on hard times. While it
would be hard to get every homeless person off the streets there are something s that can be done to
help them. One way to solve this problem is to repurpose some of the currently vacant government
building and unused county owned land throughout the county and convert them into homeless
shelters. While this solution may reduce the homeless population we first need to look at who and
why people are homeless in this country. Understanding What Homeless Is When we start talking
about the homeless population there are some key terms that we need to understand. The first of
those terms is sheltered homeless people. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development (2014) defines sheltered homeless people as individuals who are staying in
emergency shelters, transitional housing programs or safe havens (pg. 2). These would

Ludwig Van Beethoven s Creativity
Creativity can sometimes be the result of torment. Ludwig van Beethoven was a famous classical
composer with a hard life. Throughout his entire life, he suffered from various diseases, hearing
difficulties, mental disorders and social problems, (Russell and Nibley 25 ). Yet despite all of
these terrible ailments, he was able to compose music that is considered some of the best ever
composed, and that is still appreciated today.
Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany on December 17, 1770 (F.C.C). His father, Johann, was
an alcoholic who used to bully and beat Ludwig and drag him crying out of bed to practice
piano. His mother, Maria, in contrast, was kind and intelligent (Russell and Nibley 11 12). He
was a natural musician and performed when he was seven on piano and at eight had piano,
violin, and viola lessons. When he was eleven, he was deputy court organist (Russell and Nibley
12). He showed talent at an early age so when he became deaf, it was a tragic loss for him. Even
though Beethoven became deaf, he still managed to become well skilled at composing, a job which
requires hearing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Testing on Beethoven s hair indicated tremendous amounts of mercury in his system. Mercury
could have been prescribed as a remedy for his various illness when he was a child. This
poisoning could explain his early deafness and his odd behavior (Russel and Nibley 1,7).
Beethoven s middle years were spent supporting his family because his father and mother had
died when he was young (Russell and Nibley 14). He was influenced by many people who helped
and encouraged him during these years. Beethoven supposedly got his musical traits from his
grandfather (Russell and Nibley 11). Then as a young organist, Christian Gotlob Neefe, taught
Beethoven and was a good mentor and friend. Later, in 1792, Beethoven left Bonn to live in
Vienna, where Josef Haydn served to promote Beethoven to the Viennese cultural community

Formation Beyonce
For the second time in her career, Beyonce released a new, unexpected single/music video called
Formation . There initially was much chatter about her new album but no one could have expected
it to be so controversial. As a long time fan, I spent some time analyzing what she was trying to
convey to us, the listeners/viewers.
Formation is very different from what we are used to hearing from Queen Bey. It is not at all
main stream as most of her work had been previously. You certainly would not hear this music
playing while you are shopping for groceries. It is miles away from Single Ladies .
Formation is hailed by Beyonce s fans as a black power anthem and declaration that she supports
the Black Lives Matter movement. While BeyoncГ© doesn t officially say or shows the words
Black Lives Matter in the music video, it introduces audiences to a side of BeyoncГ© that her fans
haven t seen before, a gritty and perhaps even a political side.
The video showcases a child dancing in front of police ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Specifically, she targets her haters who criticized her for keeping her daughter s hair in it s
natural afro state. Blue Ivy, Beyonce s beautiful daughter was placed front and centre as the little
girl confidently smiled at the camera, all the while Beyonce sings about I like my baby hair with
baby hair and afros . She is setting an example for her daughter to love herself and be proud of
who she is. She makes reference to liking her negro nose with Jackson Five nostrils as many
African American women undergo surgery to change their looks in order to fit into society.
The music video has much symbolism and displays double meanings. The title of the song
Formation could mean black women need to fall in formation and to be proud of themselves and
their heritage as well. It can also be a pun telling black women to get in formation meaning black
women need to get information about being unapologetically

Russell believed that exercise is to the good of the body as philosophy is to the goods of the mind.
Philosophy keeps alive the interest in the world. It aims the achievement of knowledge through
criticism and self evaluation. Philosophizing allow those who study it to enrich their intellectual

Essay about History of the Eartly Christian Church
Throughout the early centuries of the church s existence, the Roman government suppressed the
spread of Christianity. Many emperors did their absolute best to try to stop the Christian populace
from spreading with none succeeding (demonstrated by the fact that Christianity is still in existence
today). It was not until 322 A.D. when Constantine united all of Europe under his throne that
Christianity could be spread without threat of persecution. Under Constantine, Christianity, in terms
of numerically, thrived. Councils were held, doctrine developed, and great strides were taken in
order to have Christianity be one catholic church. However, in the next couple centuries, the church

The eastern half of the empire believed that the center of the church should be located in
Constantinople with the emperor, but the western half believed that Rome should be the center of
church life. Rome believed that the church center should be located there because, according to the
bishops of Rome, Peter is claimed to have been the first bishop of Rome. Therefore, since Peter,
who was given the keys to the church by Jesus, was the first bishop of Rome, the Roman Bishop
was over the other bishops and was the head of the church at large. Under this truth, various bishops
have risen to power with eventually taking on the title of Pope.
The first Roman Bishop to claim direct Apostolic succession from Peter was
Damasus I. Damasus went to great lengths to attempt to convince the other churches and cities of
this so called truth but to no avail. However, his work was not in vain. The next bishop of Rome,
Siricus, held the same stance as Damasus; however, he took the desire for authority from the other
cities farther. Siricus claimed inherent authority without consideration of the
Scriptures. He believed that because he was Bishop of Rome, he was a direct descendant of Peter
(instead of simply having the same position as Peter), which, according to Siricus, gave him
authority over the rest of the church as Peter was supposedly given. In addition to Siricus belief in
his authority, he also was the first bishop to give himself the title of

Labor costs
Labor costs in the United States are much higher than in many parts of the world. Consequently, the
costs of production for labor intensive manufacturing can be significantly reduced by moving
factories overseas mainly to third world countries this is a common practice of Nike who outsource
there manufacturing to other companies in countries such as Thailand and Indonesia.[ ]
2. Cost of Shipping
The cost of shipping goods has dropped in recent years. Part of this reduction is the result of
improved efficiencies in shipping technologies. Also, tariffs on imports have dropped with the
North American Free Trade Agreement and other international efforts to promote free trade this will
make it easier for companies and corporations such as Nike to outsource the manufacture of their
goods. [4]
3. Free Trade as a Political Tool
Outsourcing manufacturing jobs overseas has the additional benefit of promoting capitalism and
free enterprise in many countries that have been run by communism and totalitarianism
governments. Many political scientists and economists believe that by increasing economic
interdependence with the United States, these foreign nations are more likely to develop into
robust democracies and more likely to establish a middle class of their own this fact can be used
by corporations such as Nike to justify outsourcing to these countries. [4]

Lots of music, fast cuts, fantastic cinematography and superb sets and costumes make it the lively
tale it was meant to be. These features also make the film somewhat cartoon like with a lot of
heightened realism. Don t expect to see British people prancing around in tights when you rent this
one. Luhrmann creates a world where gun toting youths sport Hawaiian shirts and beachfront
brawls are an everyday event.
Purists may hesitate, but the film uses its modern setting to its full potential and should be
required viewing for any director who looks to put a modern spin on the 400 year old play.
Capulet and Montague become warring Mafia leaders, the Prince of Verona is a police chief
trying to overcome the violence, and television anchors represent Shakespeare s traditional chorus.
Other, more subtle narrative devices work equally as well. No modern audience could mistake the
significance of the quot;attempted delivery quot; post it that falls off the door, never to be found.
This isn t just an update; director Baz Luhrmann has created a savvy exploitation of the film
medium that assists the audience with Shakespeare s dated language.
Giving the classic play this modern twist makes for a new understanding of the text and brings
the feud between the Montagues and the Capulets to a whole new, dramatic level. Shakespeare
may be rolling around in his grave after seeing this film, but English classes all over the world can
breathe a little easier when it comes time to take

The Etiology of Addiction Disease Model Essay examples
Addiction is like all behaviours the business of the brain . Addictions are compulsive physical and
psychological needs from habit forming sustenances like nicotine, alcohol, and drugs. Being
occupied with or involved in such activities, leads a person who uses them again and again to
become tolerant and dependent eventually experiencing withdrawal. (Molintas, 2006).
Addictive drugs cause dopamine neurons to release dopamine, the pleasure hormone. The narcotics
disable the neurons that would usually keep the dopamine neurons in check; becoming over
stimulated. Endorphins are produced and released within the brain, creating a high and reinforcing
the individual s positive associations with the activity. Hence the rush (Molintas, 2006) ... Show

(David Capuzzi, 2008, p. 20) Those people who over consumed were regarded as weak willed or
sinful but were not felt to be a threat to society. Records indicate that people sought help for
drinking problems in Egypt approximately 5000 years ago. Even though there has been substantial
research, many questions remain regarding addiction (David Capuzzi, 2008, p. 20).
Historically in the later part of the 18th century, the teachings and writings of Benjamin Rush
actually precipitated the birth of the American disease concept of alcoholism as an addiction (David
Capuzzi, 2008, p. 10). Benjamin Rush; a physician, originally from Philadelphia began to write
about inebriety (UnKnown, 2011). He referred to this condition as a disease of the will, resulting
in loss of control, and that over drinking behaviour is curable but only through abstinence (David
Capuzzi, 2008, p. 10) (UnKnown, 2011). The rationale for this view was that no rational person
would deliberately engage in a behaviour that was both anti social and harmful to them. Hence they
must be consuming substances against their will, which is unlike normal people. They had no
control over their consumption so they had to have a disease (UnKnown, 2011).
In 1960 E.M. Jellinek a scientist, was credited for introducing this controversial and initially
popular model of addiction from past research of the late 1930`s and early 1940`s. His findings
have received wide acceptance however, the research from which he

Plot and Setting The plot starts out with a little boy name Phillip Pirrip. It is a first person

introduces himself, and introduces his dead parents. He is in the graveyard, and then a scary
looking man comes up. The man threatens him. The plot of the story I think is good because it deals
a lot with the struggles in a child. He has no one to turn to. The author really helped us relate to the

around for stuff we never would have to scrounge around for. What is really neat about it, is that
they get an enjoyment out of life. They are not well off either. I can t wait to read on further into
Charles Dickens novel.
Vocabulary So far in this novel there is no vocabulary that really comes to mind. I though I
would use this section to talk about figurative language. Charles Dickens uses a lot of figurative
language. He says that when Pip goes up into his room, he is in the dark. Literally that means he
does not have a candle, so therefore he is in the dark. Figuratively we can interpret it in many
ways. One way is to say that Pip isn t a very smart kid. He is and ignorant person. When someone
says that someone is in the dark, they usually mean that they are naГЇve. Later on in the story, Pip

Difference Between Micro And Macroeconomics
The differences between Macroeconomics and Microeconomics
The two aspects of Macroeconomics and Microeconomics are important factors when considering
an academic approach to economics. The understand their significance it is firstly important to
define these two aspects of economics.
Macroeconomics
This aspect of economics, studies the economy as a whole. Macroeconomics requires a study of
the overall performance of the aggregate economy. This can be achieved by looking key measures
such as GDP, Unemployment rates and inflation, major indicators of the overall performance of the
economy itself. By studying this, it can help economists determine the correct fiscal and monetary
policies that would be required for a country to achieve, or if established, maintain a stable growth.
It is most common in Macroeconomics to use larger variables, which are present in the economy to
determine such growth, if we consider government spending, inflation, employment and
consumption when considering a nation s current and future economic outlook (Investopedia, n.d.).
Microeconomics
While Macroeconomics, discussed above deals with a broad approach to the economy,
Microeconomics is quite different. Instead, microeconomics focuses on key agents of the economy.

What was interesting about the article I found on Business Insider is how, and why these events
can impact microeconomics and that over the weeks to come we may find changes in the market
and certainly the price of oil, according to the article, in the short term. It has been suggested, that
the production, or availability of oil originating in Russia and Iran may be interrupted. This is
likely to be a short change to the market, one of the reasons for this is because Syrian oil
production, although a large reserve had ceased over three years ago (Holodny,

Rhetorical Of Dog Food
For this essay I chose to investigate rhetorical means of dog food advertisements. During this
investigation I will point out what it is exactly that advertisers are using in order to sell their
product. I chose a Blue Bufflo ad, a Pedigree ad, a vintage Ken L Ration ad, and another shorter
Pedigree ad. The first ad by Blue Buffalo shows a dogand a cat as well as a chart and a small
paragraph about the product. The color is a calming blue and actually almost gives somewhat of a
medical appealto the ad. This not only looks like a dog food ad but also has similarities to an
advertisement promoting a medication. Their heading to the ad is Love them like family and feed
them like family with natural, holistic BLUE. This ad appeals to ethos,... Show more content on

The color gives a fun an youthful appeal. The heading is a supposed quote from the pup stating, I
enjoy licking faces. And toilets Koji. This ad also has a slightly medical appeal as it has the
medical cross right at the top of the advertisement. This ad appeals to logos in the fact that it is
promoting a product that boosts the immunity of your pet because dogs will put their mouths on
anything and every dog has his can so this ad is saying that in order to protect your dog, pick this
product, and that you can pin point which food to buy based on the buyer s dog s specific needs.
This ad also appeals to pathos as it mentions that this food is going to not only be tasty for your
dog but also have the healthy ingredients needed in order to protect them, letting the buys know
they are making the right choice fro their animal by buying this product. The vintage Ken L
Ration ad is a simple black and white ad with a drawn, what seemed to be, fox terrier in the
corner. The headline is He Loves it! showing a positive and fun spect to the ad and eating the
readers attention. This ad does a very good job appealing to pathos and logos in a short and sweet
statement pointing out that your dog will not only enjoy the product, but it will also keep him
health and strong, and that it also comes canned making it easy and convenient to serve. This is
similar to the Pedigree ad, although much shorter, and slightly less exciting as it lacks

Stereotypes In Gangs
Gender stereotypes leads kids to gang affiliations. Gangs are growing around the world and are

with a group identity with slogans, signs, symbols, style of color of clothing, and that have a

Elements Of A Hero s Journey
Elements of A Hero s Journey in Literature
Introduction
A Hero s Journey by Joseph Campbell describes the different elements of what it means to be a
hero. A book that utilizes these elements, A Wrinkle in Time, by Madeleine L Engle is a story
about the adventures of a young girl named Meg, her brother Charles Wallace, and friend Calvin.
Meg comes from a supportive and brilliant family with a beautiful mother, but her father who she
adores dearly, has not come home for many months. Meg s genius little brother, Charles Wallace
befriends an old lady that Meg is initially suspicious of, but ends up helping her tremendously in
bringing her father home. Throughout this story Meg faces challenges and grows as a character
after overcoming many obstacles that ultimately aid in saving her father and brothers life.
Another story where the protagonist sets off on an adventure that could potentially be a matter of
life and death, is a book called Coraline. The protagonist, Coraline, is a very curious and
adventurous young girl. The fact that Coraline s parents do not give her any attention, as well as
her curiosity and adventurous spirit, are what lead her to initially get into to trouble. Coraline finds
an old door in her house and steals the key from her parents ... Show more content on

to her father right before she tessers to the planet Camazotz to save Charles Wallace (L Engle

Summary Of Ten Questions By Joel M. Charon
The study of sociology is the study of a society and how people behave in these societies.
According to Joel M. Charon in his book Ten Questions, he states that Sociology is an academic
discipline, an attempt to seek knowledge and understanding through painstaking and critical
investigation (Charon 3). In other words, it is an attempt to become knowledgeable about of
different societies and people in those societies work together. When studying sociology, a person is
trying to understand human society and how humans act and react to certain situations presented to
them in their society. It also seeks to understand how much a person will interact with their society.
When Charon first discusses society he says, Society is not simply a bunch of individuals; it
constitutes a larger whole, a reality that it is more than the sum of the individuals who make it
up (Charon 5). This means that society does not mean lots of people in the same place, it is
people living together as a community, having relationships with each other and having a similar
or the same culture. A culture can be defined as a way of life for a group of people within their
society. Living in a place where everyone comes from the same culture does not necessarily mean
that you automatically have a well working society. While culture is very important to a society, it
is important for the people living there to be able to establish relationships with the people living
around them. For a society to thrive, the

Japan Was Unjustified DBQ
The use of the atomic bomb the U.S used against Japan was Unjustified. The U.S had several
other alternatives to solve the conflict between the two countries. Furthermore, the bomb was
strongly racially motivated and had many inhumane side effects to the dangerous explosion
when the blast had hit Japan. Before resorting to using the bomb the U.S should have considered
the many options they had at hand. For example, the U.S had the choice of using the bomb as a
demonstration to show the destruction of the explosive to the Japanese government. (Doc. E)
Likewise one might say that the demonstration of a bomb may not have convinced the Japanese
to surrender or if the bomb had failed the U.S may have seemed like fools. However, although
those are good points the bomb did in fact work and cost many lives of the Japanese. Also before
the U.S used the bomb they already had the Soviet Union sending back up to their arms. (Doc. E)
If they had waited for the Soviet Union they would have been able to overpower the Japanese with
ease. The fact of the Soviet Union being famous for having a large amount of weaponry would
have caused tension within Japan and would soon eventually lead to Japan s surrender.... Show

The U.S would often refer to the Japanese as big toothed, small eyed, and would repeatedly call
them rats. (Doc. E) Addition to the name calling they also created a video making out the Japanese
as being ruthless and stronger than the Americans to Justify the use of the bomb. (Doc. F) When
portraying the Japanese in the film they seemed more as ferocious animals rather than people. Does
that not seem similar to a situation with the Jews and the

recommended dates and an outlined protocol. The dates are recommended, but are subjected to
change with circumstances. The president presents the proposed budget on the first Monday, in
February, to the congress. Mid February, the CBO presents the economy report and the outlook of
the budget to the budget committees. These committees report the estimates and views on the
budget to the senate committee six weeks after they receive it. On 1st April, the senate budget
committee begins working on resolving the budget. Mid April, the committee finalizes on the
resolution process. On 10th June, the committee of appropriation reports the final regular bill. On
end June, the House completes the legal reconciliation and reconciliation legislation. Mid July, the
president presents the agreed upon bill back to congress and the fiscal year begins on October 1st

audited after several years. Instead, the contracted firms should work basically for the government
from within. Instead of the several budget reviews (an aspect which makes it economical), the
auditors should audit details during implementation. Like other analytical process, the budget
should be audited at the initial stage, during implementation, and after implementation. Years of
workload should not be left to accumulate. My concern on the differences between the federal

ABSTRACT There have been major changes which are witnessed in the world and at the centre is
the ever changing phase of technology, like advances in the way people communicate, do

has revolutionised the way people are communicating and transferring the data and information. The
best part about being that there exists no single entity or person who owns the World Wide Web

The banking industry also involves the practice of offering varied products which are necessary to
ensure that they are able to maintain the advantage in a highly competitive field and the
globalization has brought in different players who are vying for the same number of customers and
this forces the banks and financial institutions to look for various avenues to meet the customer
needs. However, it needs to be understood that the Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) had the most
penetration in the environment in comparison to other measures like phone banking, mobile
banking, and internet banking. There has been an exodus of offers with which the banks have
penetrated in the economy and this sea change has been made possible by the availability of
technology. However, there is a still a percentage of customers who would believe in the concept of
conventional banking in comparison to the modern banking methods which are confusing and at
times intrusive for the conventional customer who would still rely on the bricks and mortar
banking system which works on hard physical currency being transacted over the counter. (Yaha
and Laura, 1990) There are many reasons for the deep distrust towards the advancement that has
been witnessed in the technology front, like the old age people who are not adept at the system feel
that it has nothing new to offer to them. However, the

  • 2. The Role Of Fashion During The 1920 S The 1920 s was a time of great change. (Some changes that happened during 1920s were the nation s wealth doubled, more americans lived in the cities, advancements in technology, and women being able to vote.) One big change that occurred during the 1920 s social shift was the fashion industry. Fashionis something that reflects the beliefs and social standards of that time. This industry, along with others, had an immense boom during the 1920s. The evolution of fashion during this decade is described as ... abandoning fussiness and unnecessary details (Anne McEvoy). Fashion played an important role in the 1920s, for it was a reflection of a period of escapism, women s independence, a relaxation of morals and standards, and the evolving... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Women were looking to become their own person, they wore comfortable and colorful clothing, they worked, and they went to parties. For once they wanted to live for themselves. A flapper is one women most people associate with the 1920s. Flappers were generally young women who bobbed their hair (cut it short). They wore short, loose fitting dresses and enhanced their faces with makeup (Cynthia Johnson and Lawrence W. Backer). Being a flapper was one way women could be independent and not be highly criticized for. Flappers weren t just recognized for the fashionable clothes, it described their unconventional attitudes and behavior ( Anne McEvoy). Flappers and young women in the 1920s used fashion as a way to speak for them, wearing certain things to let other people know that they wanted to be more free and modern as a society. Flappers and young women weren t the only women who wanted change, older women wanted change too, by fighting for their right to vote. They also used fashion to reflect what they were fighting for. Many liberated suffragettes wore bright red lipstick as a symbol of their newfound voices ( by Cynthia Johnston and Lawrence W. Backer). Women s independence was one of the biggest social changes that occurred. Women and men started to become more laid back and relaxed about the high expectation that were expected from the older generations. On both sides of the Atlantic life was now fun, one ... • 3. The British Colonies In the 1400s France, Britain, The Dutch and Span were rapidly expanding their empires globally. These nations were vigorously looking for new sources of income and resources for their nation. Years previously, these nations participated in extremely costly wars in Europe. These wars, not only had a negative effect on their citizens morality, they also depleted the governments fiscal positions. The solution to this (money) problem was to exploit the resources of the New World by setting up colonies and territories that could send cheap raw material back to their respected countries to be refined into finished products that in return could be taken to market. The readings from this semester mainly focused on the evaluation of the British colonies, this is where my focus will steer you. From the birth of the British settlements, the colonies have under gone several different economic policies changes. They first started off as a dependant society, to a society with slaves, to finally settling as slave society which propelled the once settlers to the brink of a revaluation. The East India Company sponsored settlements to the new worlds, to all that where willing settle the new world with the promise of striking it rich form gold as the Spanish where doing in the Caribbean or a large parasol of land. In the thirteenth century, when the British settlers first arrived on the eastern coast of the new America, it was late fall with winter fast approaching. That winter was ... You drive through small towns with magnificent trees, 100 s of years old, lining the streets. If you drove down that road many of times, you would know that the trees were amazing. Wouldn t it be a shame to drive down that street again, and those beautiful trees were gone, and a sidewalk there instead? The trees lining Main Streetin Lake Mills shouldn t be cut down because the road detours will be an inconvenience to citizens and businesses, the trees give a natural setting in the downtown area, and the estimated 4.8 million dollars being spent on this project could be used for other funding in the city. Next, also according to the article South Main Street Reconstruction Still in Planning Stages By Matt Gardner (www.hngnews.com), the planned detour as of right now is from Interstate 94 to Highway 26, to Highway 18. Another option would be to go from Main Street to Madison Street, then heading out Lake Street and to Highway Q. In addition, there will be no way around Pinnacle Drive and Topel Street. I spoke with Tara Topel, one of the owners of Topel s Towing and Repair, and asked her some questions. New Learning Opportunities for Adult Learners Essay New Learning Opportunities for Adult Learners The concept of adults as learners emerged both in this country and in Europe shortly after World War I; however, only in the last few decades has the theory of adult learning matured. Knowles, Tough, Houle, and Park, among others, have written extensively on the idea of the adult learner. In Tennant s book (1997), he discussed Knowles adult learning theory. Knowles used the term andragogy to label adult learning theory. The andragogical model of the adult learner is based on the assumptions that adults need to know; adults have a need to be self directed learners and have a self concept of being responsible for their own decisions and for their own lives; adults bring reservoirs of ... The WWW can provide stimulating material to enhance and enrich the learning experience by using graphics, sound, video and virtual environments. It supports learning in own space, own pace, and own time (Henke,1997). It has limitless possibilities of interactive computer multimedia instruction. The potential benefits include personalized instruction, active learning, instant feedback, real world simulation, as well as faster and more effective teaching and empowerment of learners (McManus, 1995). With all these benefits, WWW as an instruction delivery medium can indeed enhance learning and meet the needs of adult learners. • 7. Concert At Boy Band Concert Introduction At boy band concerts, the general admission standing floor is an open space in front of the stage; concert attendees buy tickets at a single price and try to get as close to the stage as possible by lining up in front of the concert venue as early as twelve hours before doors open (Stone, 2015). The vast majority of the concert attendees have the same motivation: 1) to get a clear view of the stage and 2) to be as close to the front as possible. These motivations in fans could be combined with such a feeling of desperation that any kinds of hierarchies (like position int he crowd) or culturally specific paradigms of politeness that could govern their behavior are dissolved. In the midst of a boy band concert, the general admission floor, constituted of at least a hundred individuals that are separated by no groups or hierarchies, often sees widespread pushing at the very least as an emergent property, which can then erupt into more intense types of violence. For example, at a One Direction concert in Lima, Peru, the pushing in the general admission crowd was so intense that forty seven people had to be treated for asphyxia (Gusmaroli, 2014). On an individual level, certain members of the crowd may begin instigate pushing or physical conflict because of a self consuming passion for the performers, irritability or ruthlessness. If confronted with a certain trigger or stimuli (such as the boy band taking the stage for the first time, or being pushed by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Character Analysis Of Little Women In Little Women Margaret Meg March Brook, the oldest March sister in Louisa May Alcott s classic novel Little Women, is demure yet fierce in her loyalty. Although she cares too much about other s opinions, she learns to focus on kindness rather than charm and propriety, and value hard work over wealth. Known to be motherly, Meg loves and encourages her friends and younger sisters. She embodies warmth and compassion in her family throughout the book, first when she is living at home with her mother and sisters, and later when she is married. Meg is loyal, compassionate, and gentle. She uses her loving nature to encourage those around her from the time the story opens, and she is encouraging her sisters to purchase gifts for their hard working mother for Christmas rather than for themselves, to when she is married to John Brook and described as a most devoted little wife (page 278). I also put forth my best effort to encourage and care for those I love. Although she is usually quite docile, when her aunt tells her that she can t love John Brook because he is poor, Meg shows her strong sense of loyalty, exclaiming, I couldn t do better if I waited half my life! (page 225). Alcott says that Meg hardly knew herself, she felt so brave and independent , and describes her as Looking prettier than ever in her earnestness . Although often reserved, it would be a mistake to describe Margaret March as weak; her strength is evident when fighting for those she loves, and, if one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. New Ideas from the Past New Ideas from the Past Transcendentalism describes a school of thought which teaches that each person possesses a different set of beliefs that will ultimately lead the person to find an individual view of truth. It teaches that everyone comes into this world morally sound, and society eventually becomes responsible for each of their downfalls, because society tries to force its own outlook about what truth is and how to find truth onto the individual. Problems which plague an individual can be traced back to parallel the larger problems of the evil society at large. This not only includes the pressures seen through laws and government, but spans over all influences of the human mind, for example, religion and philosophy. In Ralph Waldo Emersons Historic Notes of Life and Letters in New England, he wrote about a specific era in history that teemed with people who started to believe these ideals three hundred years before he was writing. He asserts that that this individualistic, self reliant way of thinking was not new, and should not be limited to influence only one area of human life, but all aspects of society. While the official Transcendental movement took place in the 1830s, Emerson argued that main ideas from the movement had been causing conflict for centuries. He claimed when new ideas like these come to the surface, it can be hard to identify directly where tension with old ideas is coming from at first, but the effects of the conflict are widespread: At ... • 11. Peter Elbow s The Doubting Game And Believing Game In Peter Elbow s essay The Doubting Game and Believing Game he discusses the two types of games that an individual can use to look for the truth in a situation. The Doubting game, is when an individual believes everything is false, and prove each assertion wrong, and the Believing game, is the process where an individual believes that all assertions are correct, and go over each one separately. With both games, there are certain rules that must be followed. Taking a look at the doubting game, Elbow writes that in order to doubt well, it helps if you make a special effort to extricate yourself from the assertions.. (Lines 12 and 13). • 13. Hip Hop Vs Jazz Music Essay What if someone would make a mash up of the two music genres, jazz and hip hop? Jazz music can date to the early 1900 s but there is no specified founder (www.jazzinamerica.org). Hip hop can also trace back to an approximate start date, but there is not just one creator (Errey 1997). Jazz and hip hop have many similarities along with their numerous differences. Jazzmusic and hip hop music are both genres of music that have long histories and have lots of similarities and differences, too. First of all, the historical timeline of jazz is very long and complicated, leading to no single founder of the genre. A thick horde of dark bodies frames into circular gatherings maybe five or six hundred people moving so as to the pulsations of the music (www.nytimes.com). This could be an African country or just about everywhere (www.nytimes.com). But, this is New Orleans, The Big Easy (www.nytimes.com). Crazy, right, how diverse this country is? Another difference is the genres birthplaces. Jazz was in the New Orleans area, while hip hop was more near New York City (Kumar 2011). The genres uses of improvisation are starkly different (Kumar 2011). A result in less than 100% yield may be due to the solvent used during the filtration process. The solvent could have dissolved some product and thus resulted in the loss of product during filtration. Synthesis of Bromoacetanilide In the synthesis of bromoacetanilide, the crude yield was 0.69g and the purified yield was 0.53g (a difference of 0.26g from the theoretical and resulting in a 67% yield). The recovery of the pure product from the initial crystallization was 77%. The less than 100% yield could have been a result of adding too much hot solvent. Adding too much would result in a solution that is unsaturated and therefore when cooled, some of the product remains dissolved in the solvent. This would cause fewer crystals to recrystallize and decrease the yield. b.Discussion of Physical Properties evidence for correct product Synthesis of Stilbene dibromide The measured melting point of experimental dibromostilbene was 228.0 231.0В°C, a slightly depressed value from the theoretical... It s known for being the largest rainforest on the planet. Most of the jungle lies in Brazil. The Amazon Rainforest also holds the Amazon River. According to the National Science Foundation, the amazon river is the longest river in the world by volume and contains twenty percent of the Earths freshwater. But the Nile River is the longest when calculating width. Being as big a it is, the amazon holds a massive number of dfferent types of species of wildlife with different kinds of sub ecosystems to provide for them. When I think of the Amazon I first think of the terrestrial ecosystems. These are the land based eviroments. I m going to take the first part of this project to talk about the terrestrial ecosystem in the amazon and all the wildlife that it holds. According to WorldAtlas there are 427 types of mammals, 1,300 types of birds, 378 types of reptiles, more than 400 kinds of amphibians, over 80,000 types of plants and trees, and estimation of over 2 million differnt types of insects. Unfortunatley I cannot go over ever single one of these unique species so I will talk about the more popular species that benefit the jungle. The rainforest is divided in four layers: forest floor, understory, canopy and emergent. The canopy is the most heavy populated with plant life, with trees towering up to 200 feet ... • 20. The, The Land Of Opportunity It is an old problem for societies, how to take care of and rehabilitate the downtrodden. America is known as the land of opportunity : where anyone can make it no matter their nationality, color, or sex. And while much of America aspires to, and many Americans achieve a life of relative economic stability, there are those who, for various reasons, have not been so lucky. Despite the numerous non profit, and governmental aid programs designed to assist and rehabilitate the homeless, the homeless population continues to rise (according to a 2013 U.S. Mayors report, 52% of surveyed cities reported growing homeless populations) (Cochran, 8). For those unfortunate enough to find themselves without a home, clawing their way out of homelessnesson their own has proven to be extremely difficult. Not only are the homeless at a disadvantage in the job marketplace, but many homeless grow a strong connection to the homeless community that welcomed them in upon landing on the street, and are reluctant to leave it, even if that means remaining homeless. While the government and aid organizations are attempting to minimize the crisis, past solutions either provide housing for the few lucky homeless, or they attempt to provide jobs, but not both. Given the need for a package deal, one potential (yet underused) solution is the creation of community run working towns which would be able to provide a strong incentive for whole communities of homeless to move in and begin working, thus ... This continues to be an accreditation requirement. Their recommendations to do this are to use at least two patient identifiers when administering medications, and when providing treatments or procedures. Acceptable identifiers may be the individual s name, an assigned identification number, telephone number, or other person specific identifier. Patient room number or physical location may not be used as an appropriate identifier. The pages are bound with every type of emotion from grief to elated worship. Anyone from any culture, race, or section of society can find common ground with at least one psalm. We can also use the Psalmsin many different situations whether that be for a community of people or for ourselves. The book Dictionary of the Old Testament: Wisdom, Poetry Writings explains this on page 579, The psalms have remained a central fixture for corporate worship and private devotion over the centuries. In this section, we will be reviewing Psalms 22. Although a lament psalm may seem dark and negative, it can actually be very a beneficial prayer to God. Steven I. Lawson explains the importance of this genre in his book Psalms 1 75, These highly emotionally charged psalms record the writer s heart cry to God for divine deliverance from the psalmist s trouble and pain. As humans, we are not able to control the emotions that we feel and at what extent we feel them. Meanwhile, we are able to control our actions. Psalm 22:12 14 reads, Many bulls surround me; strong bulls of Bashan encircle me. Roaring lions that tear their prey open their mouths wide against me. I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted within me . In my case, I bottled up my emotions from a very young age. I would make a point not to show my sadness what so ever. When I entered my teenage years this backlashed. Due to the fact that I had no outlet for my emotions, I found another. I started cutting myself at the age of 15. I did not know why I did. In the meantime, I was so confused. Hundreds of conflicting emotions filled my heart like they do to any other teenage. I was terrified that my parents would find out that I cut in places where no one would see. It was not until two years later that I found out that self harm was a sin. On the other hand, a safer less sinful way of dealing with our emotions is reading lament prayers. Davida Charney states in his article Maintaining Innocence Before a Divine Hearer, For those seeing the psalms as therapeutic, the laments record moment by moment turns in emotion; a despairing individual is eventually enabled to affirm faith in God We can also see that the passage moves into praise after the writer is finished grieving: You who fear the Lord, praise him! The society believed in no change but equality had different ideas. Currently San Diego County has the fifth highest homeless population in the United States. The homeless population of San Diego County is mostly located in and around the downtown and beach areas of the county however it has started to spread into more areas of the county to include the San Diego River area of Santee. While there is a portion of the homeless population that choose to be homeless a large number of them are homeless due to falling on hard times. One way to solve this problem is to repurpose some of the currently vacant government building and unused county owned land throughout the county and convert them into homeless shelters. While this solution may reduce the homeless population we first need to look at who and why people are homeless in this country. Understanding What Homeless Is When we start talking about the homeless population there are some key terms that we need to understand. The first of those terms is sheltered homeless people. Throughout his entire life, he suffered from various diseases, hearing difficulties, mental disorders and social problems, (Russell and Nibley 25 ). Yet despite all of these terrible ailments, he was able to compose music that is considered some of the best ever composed, and that is still appreciated today. Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany on December 17, 1770 (F.C.C). His father, Johann, was an alcoholic who used to bully and beat Ludwig and drag him crying out of bed to practice piano. His mother, Maria, in contrast, was kind and intelligent (Russell and Nibley 11 12). He was a natural musician and performed when he was seven on piano and at eight had piano, violin, and viola lessons. When he was eleven, he was deputy court organist (Russell and Nibley 12). Other, more subtle narrative devices work equally as well. No modern audience could mistake the significance of the quot;attempted delivery quot; post it that falls off the door, never to be found. This isn t just an update; director Baz Luhrmann has created a savvy exploitation of the film medium that assists the audience with Shakespeare s dated language. Giving the classic play this modern twist makes for a new understanding of the text and brings the feud between the Montagues and the Capulets to a whole new, dramatic level. Shakespeare may be rolling around in his grave after seeing this film, but English classes all over the world can breathe a little easier when it comes time to take ... • 39. The Etiology of Addiction Disease Model Essay examples Addiction is like all behaviours the business of the brain . Addictions are compulsive physical and psychological needs from habit forming sustenances like nicotine, alcohol, and drugs. Being occupied with or involved in such activities, leads a person who uses them again and again to become tolerant and dependent eventually experiencing withdrawal. (Molintas, 2006). Addictive drugs cause dopamine neurons to release dopamine, the pleasure hormone. The narcotics disable the neurons that would usually keep the dopamine neurons in check; becoming over stimulated. Endorphins are produced and released within the brain, creating a high and reinforcing the individual s positive associations with the activity. Hence the rush (Molintas, 2006) ... Records indicate that people sought help for drinking problems in Egypt approximately 5000 years ago. Even though there has been substantial research, many questions remain regarding addiction (David Capuzzi, 2008, p. 20). Historically in the later part of the 18th century, the teachings and writings of Benjamin Rush actually precipitated the birth of the American disease concept of alcoholism as an addiction (David Capuzzi, 2008, p. 10). Benjamin Rush; a physician, originally from Philadelphia began to write about inebriety (UnKnown, 2011). He referred to this condition as a disease of the will, resulting in loss of control, and that over drinking behaviour is curable but only through abstinence (David Capuzzi, 2008, p. 10) (UnKnown, 2011). The rationale for this view was that no rational person would deliberately engage in a behaviour that was both anti social and harmful to them. Hence they must be consuming substances against their will, which is unlike normal people. They had no control over their consumption so they had to have a disease (UnKnown, 2011). In 1960 E.M. Jellinek a scientist, was credited for introducing this controversial and initially popular model of addiction from past research of the late 1930`s and early 1940`s. His findings have received wide acceptance however, the research from which he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Essay about Analysis of Chapters 1 through 8 of Great... Analysis of Chapters 1 through 8 of Great Expectations Plot and Setting The plot starts out with a little boy name Phillip Pirrip. It is a first person narrative about a boy back in the nineteenth century. The first eight chapters deal mostly with Pip s childhood years. It also deals with who Pip is, and his family. In the beginning of the story Pip introduces himself, and introduces his dead parents. He is in the graveyard, and then a scary looking man comes up. The man threatens him. The plot of the story I think is good because it deals a lot with the struggles in a child. He has no one to turn to. The author really helped us relate to the story. Biddy is a character that cares very much for Pip. She understands Pip more than Pip does. Pip doesn t like Biddy, because she is to common. She is the better girl though. Personal Response So far I really enjoy the book. Charles Dickens really pulls me into the book. He uses great figurative language that makes you feel sorry for a character. The people in this book seem so innocent and harmless. Well, except the guy that threatened Pip. They all also seem to live hard lives. They don t have all the benefits that we have today. They have to scrounge around for stuff we never would have to scrounge around for. What is really neat about it, is that they get an enjoyment out of life. They are not well off either. I can t wait to read on further into Charles Dickens novel. Vocabulary So far in this novel there is no vocabulary that really comes to mind. I though I would use this section to talk about figurative language. Charles Dickens uses a lot of figurative language. He says that when Pip goes up into his room, he is in the dark. Literally that means he does not have a candle, so therefore he is in the dark. Figuratively we can interpret it in many ways. One way is to say that Pip isn t a very smart kid. He is and ignorant person. When someone says that someone is in the dark, they usually mean that they are naГЇve. Later on in the story, Pip ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Difference Between Micro And Macroeconomics The differences between Macroeconomics and Microeconomics The two aspects of Macroeconomics and Microeconomics are important factors when considering an academic approach to economics. The understand their significance it is firstly important to define these two aspects of economics. Macroeconomics This aspect of economics, studies the economy as a whole. Macroeconomics requires a study of the overall performance of the aggregate economy. This can be achieved by looking key measures such as GDP, Unemployment rates and inflation, major indicators of the overall performance of the economy itself. By studying this, it can help economists determine the correct fiscal and monetary policies that would be required for a country to achieve, or if established, maintain a stable growth. It is most common in Macroeconomics to use larger variables, which are present in the economy to determine such growth, if we consider government spending, inflation, employment and consumption when considering a nation s current and future economic outlook (Investopedia, n.d.). Microeconomics While Macroeconomics, discussed above deals with a broad approach to the economy, Microeconomics is quite different. Instead, microeconomics focuses on key agents of the economy. • 43. Rhetorical Of Dog Food For this essay I chose to investigate rhetorical means of dog food advertisements. During this investigation I will point out what it is exactly that advertisers are using in order to sell their product. I chose a Blue Bufflo ad, a Pedigree ad, a vintage Ken L Ration ad, and another shorter Pedigree ad. The first ad by Blue Buffalo shows a dogand a cat as well as a chart and a small paragraph about the product. The color is a calming blue and actually almost gives somewhat of a medical appealto the ad. This not only looks like a dog food ad but also has similarities to an advertisement promoting a medication. The color gives a fun an youthful appeal. The heading is a supposed quote from the pup stating, I enjoy licking faces. And toilets Koji. This ad also has a slightly medical appeal as it has the medical cross right at the top of the advertisement. This ad appeals to logos in the fact that it is promoting a product that boosts the immunity of your pet because dogs will put their mouths on anything and every dog has his can so this ad is saying that in order to protect your dog, pick this product, and that you can pin point which food to buy based on the buyer s dog s specific needs. This ad also appeals to pathos as it mentions that this food is going to not only be tasty for your dog but also have the healthy ingredients needed in order to protect them, letting the buys know they are making the right choice fro their animal by buying this product. The vintage Ken L Ration ad is a simple black and white ad with a drawn, what seemed to be, fox terrier in the corner. The headline is He Loves it! showing a positive and fun spect to the ad and eating the readers attention. This ad does a very good job appealing to pathos and logos in a short and sweet statement pointing out that your dog will not only enjoy the product, but it will also keep him health and strong, and that it also comes canned making it easy and convenient to serve. This is similar to the Pedigree ad, although much shorter, and slightly less exciting as it lacks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Summary Of Ten Questions By Joel M. Charon The study of sociology is the study of a society and how people behave in these societies. According to Joel M. Charon in his book Ten Questions, he states that Sociology is an academic discipline, an attempt to seek knowledge and understanding through painstaking and critical investigation (Charon 3). In other words, it is an attempt to become knowledgeable about of different societies and people in those societies work together. When studying sociology, a person is trying to understand human society and how humans act and react to certain situations presented to them in their society. It also seeks to understand how much a person will interact with their society. When Charon first discusses society he says, Society is not simply a bunch of individuals; it constitutes a larger whole, a reality that it is more than the sum of the individuals who make it up (Charon 5). This means that society does not mean lots of people in the same place, it is people living together as a community, having relationships with each other and having a similar or the same culture. A culture can be defined as a way of life for a group of people within their society. Living in a place where everyone comes from the same culture does not necessarily mean that you automatically have a well working society. While culture is very important to a society, it is important for the people living there to be able to establish relationships with the people living around them. For a society to thrive, the ... Furthermore, the bomb was strongly racially motivated and had many inhumane side effects to the dangerous explosion when the blast had hit Japan. Before resorting to using the bomb the U.S should have considered the many options they had at hand. For example, the U.S had the choice of using the bomb as a demonstration to show the destruction of the explosive to the Japanese government. (Doc. E) Likewise one might say that the demonstration of a bomb may not have convinced the Japanese to surrender or if the bomb had failed the U.S may have seemed like fools. However, although those are good points the bomb did in fact work and cost many lives of the Japanese. Also before the U.S used the bomb they already had the Soviet Union sending back up to their arms. (Doc.
