Gender Stratification in the Workplace
Student s Name Professor s Name Course Title April 12, 2013 The Experience of Gender in Gender
Biased Professions Ruth Simpson interviewed 40 males working in the female dominated professions
of primary school teachers, flight attendants, nursing, and librarians to better understand their
experiences. Of those interviewed, only two found their career choice unsatisfactory and had plans to
leave (356). The rest were glad they chose or stumbled upon their current career. Simpson contrasted
the experiences of male flight attendants, nurses, librarians, and primary school teachers with the
theory that minority workers are generally penalized by increased performance expectations, isolation,
and limited opportunities for promotion (352). Researchers have shown that women in a male
dominated workplace suffer from what has been called token status. A token female employee s high
visibility often increases the pressure to perform at levels above their male peers, their isolation as
male employees exaggerate the differences between men and women, and stereotyping which tends to
limit opportunities for advancement. By contrast, men seem to benefit on several levels by choosing a
career in a female dominated workplace (Simpson 356 364). Simpson found four main effects that
were experienced by her interviewees and these were: (1) career effect, (2) assumed authority effect,
(3), special consideration effect, and (4) zone of comfort effect. The career effect experience was

Free Your Mind En Vogue Free your mind preaches about judgment and how people jump to
conclusions before learning the real story. The song describes stereotyping and how looking a certain
way gives you a reputation based on the generalization of people that look the same way. It expresses
that you should not judge people and open up your mind to a different way of thinking. This song
relates to transcendentalism by expressing spiritualism by expressing how people should not be
materialistic. The song tells people to open your mind to show the goodness of mankind. En Vogue

Ethan Frome By Edith Wharton
Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton is set in a small New England town in the early twentieth century. It
revolves around three main characters: Ethan Frome, a rural farmer; Zeena Frome, his chronically ill
wife; and Mattie Silver, Zeena s cousin who lives with them in a serving capacity. These characters
each have their own journey through this story, but those journeys entwine and affect everyone else
with the actions each character takes. Ethan Frome as the title character perhaps has the most
important journey in this novel, though, and several recurring themes affect each of his actions and
decisions. Marriage, love and desire, and desire versus duty are the themes most guiding Ethan Frome
as he works through his feelings for the two women in his life because they define every step of his
journey from beginning to end.
To begin, Ethan s unhappy marriage with Zeena is the starting point from which all of his decisions
are made. The marriage itself happened under almost false pretenses when Zeena came to help care
for his sick mother. After being in such an oppressive, silent environment for so long, Zeena s
volubility was music in his ears, and her capable, competent attitude restored his shaken balance and
magnified his sense of what he owed her (26). This initial exposure to Zeena led Ethan to a kind of
bedazzlement, so when he saw her ready to leave after his mother s funeral, he was seized with an
unreasoning dread of being left alone on the farm and asked her to stay

Traditional Education vs. Online Education
Nowadays, education is becoming one of the fundamental things in a human lifetime; most people are
trying to achieve a higher education. As technology develops considerably, it has bearings on every
area of our life, even in the way of education. The development of technology has a large impact on
education. Before this progression of technology, the education system was only traditional. Currently,
the education system has been changed. The development of technology has allowed the education
system online along with traditionally. Traditional and online instructions are both great ways to learn.
While both types of instructions have the same purpose of educating students having good skills about
everything, but there are some significant differences between them such as flexibility, learning the
course content, communication, and the cost.
The first distinction between traditional education and online education is flexibility. The motivation
of flexible learning is offering students choices about when, where and how they learn. It assists
students to acquire skills and characteristics to adapt successfully to shift. Traditional education
requires a particular place or environment for learning and instruction. It limits the number of students
that can study at the same time and it would depend on the size of class and education institution.
Moreover, traditional

Local-Color Regionalism in Tennessees Partner Essay
The literary movement of local color regionalism in American literature is a very distinctive and
interesting form of fiction writing that effectively combines regional characteristics, dialect, customs
and humor. In Bret Harte s Tennessee s Partner, these characteristics helped the story jump off the
page, allowing the reader to understand the times rather than just the characters. And, for that reason, I
feel that this is an outstanding piece of work.
One of the most distinguishable characteristics of local color regionalism writing is the usage of
authentic dialect based on the story s setting. In Tennessee s Partner, Harte uses this tactic best when
quoting the title character. For example, when Tennessee s Partner suddenly appears ... Show more

I call.
LYNCH: Two bowers and an ace.
TENNESSEE: That takes me.
Another local color characteristic that Harte used in Tennessee s Partner was the development of
characters based on their setting. The reader never feels like he knows much at all about any of the
characters even Tennessee and his partner at all. In fact, neither does the narrator. But through the use
of description, the two main characters become more stereotypes of miners in the Gold Rush era; they
were typical rugged, gambling, scorched skinned, strong, simple womanizing men.
This much is true with no one more than the title character, as his actions reveal more about the time s
concept of death during his friend s execution and burial rather than going too deep into his own
personal feelings about this particular death. Tennessee s Partner quickly compares his friend s burial
to all the other drunken trips his shouldered with Tennessee in the past and seemingly moves on from
the finality of the situation with ease.
Lastly, Harte uses the setting as a major element of the story, almost turning the vast land of Tennessee
s Partner into a character itself. The settings in most local color stories usually have an emphasis on
nature and the land is usually remote and out of the way, and the setting of this story is no different.
When reading the section of the story regarding

Alcoholics Anonymous ( A.a )
Founded in 1935, Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.) is a 12 step spiritual program for those who have a
desire to stop drinking. It is open to all those who seek help all over the world. Thousands of
alcoholics have become victorious because of the spiritual foundation it was built on. In 1939 the first
book, Alcoholics Anonymous, was published. It held all of the struggles and hope filled stories of
some of the first alcoholics that joined the group. This book, later called The Big Book , would lay
down all of the suggestions for an alcoholic if he or she wanted to live a sober life. The program
focuses on the 12 steps to help newcomers adjust to this way of life. Upon entering the program, it is
suggested that the newcomer pick a sponsor to help guide them through the steps. Furthermore,
service work within the fellowship is also recommended. The sole purpose of Alcoholics Anonymous
is to help someone achieve sobriety. As a non alcoholic, it is easy to look at a fellowship as big as A.A.
and think there may be other motives. There is no other purpose in A.A. In the Big Book, it states, Our
primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. To have any other
mission would be to destroy the foundation this program was built on. Alcoholic Anonymous is for
any sex, race and religious background. The program targets anyone with an alcohol problem. In some

Role Of Business In Business
The responsibility to society is that of government; certainly not that of business Discuss the role of
business in the social development of the communities in which they operate.
Corporate Social Responsibility, More Than Charity Work an article written by Don Wehby where he
stated that all companies have obligations to the society and environment in which they operate that
go beyond simply following the law . The responsibility of social development is a share
responsibility of government, citizens and the businesses that operate in these communities. According
to Investopedia.com social responsibility is the idea that businesses should balance profit making
activities with activities that benefit society; it involves developing businesses with a positive
relationship to the society in which they operate. The relationship to the society and environment in
which businesses operate is a critical factor in their ability to continue to operate effectively. It is also
increasingly being used as a measure of their overall performance.
According to ***** until the 1960s, profit maximization was considered the primary business goal.
However, in the 1970s and 1980s, due to the higher intensity of globalization, IT development, higher

Sabrina Estrada Mr. Shiflette Freshmen English 4 8 December 2016 To Kill A Mockingbird Theme
(Good VS. Evil) To Kill a Mockingbird is a book that shows the gith and war that goes on with
goodness or evilness of people. Atticus, the father of Scout and Jem in the story, and Atticus is very
much like a teacher in this story, for his children and his town. Atticus very much believes that people
usually contain both good and evil, but that good will usually fall in other words fail. Atticus teaches
this to his children, but also to the town, just like when he defends Tom Robinson, an innocent black
man accused of raping and beating Mayella Ewell. In a town that accused back then being the racist
town in america. Despite the challenge of overcoming the town s having racism and forcing people to
change themselves just to fit in with the rest of society, Atticus struggles with this because he believes
that one day, goodness will defeat the evils of racism and peace will come, Atticus mentions that on
what he wants society to see saying I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the

showed this by giving Scout advice saying First of all, he said, if you can learn a simple trick, Scout,
you ll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you

Decision Support Systems in Organizational Decision Making
Decision Support Systems in Organizational Decision Making Decision making refers to the process
of finding and selecting options according to the priorities and values of the person making the
decision. Since there are many choices involved, it is important to identify as many options as possible
so as to pick the option that best fits a company s target, goals, values and vision. Due to the integral
role of decision making in company growth and financial progress, many firms such as Amazon.com

Web based DSS used at Amazon.com, for instance, provides the company with original, high risk,
company wide DSS that ease decision making and company growth in the highly competitive e
commerce market. DSS also increase the satisfaction level of the decision maker by minimizing the
frustrations involved in the process. In addition, DSS also reduce the costs associated with decision
making in a company. This is good news to managers and decision makers. DSS (especially Data
driven Decision Support Systems) also increase the level of control that managers and decision
makers have over the company. Decision Support Systems promote a learning culture in an
organization. Employees and managers learn new concepts and more efficient ways of improving the
organization, either as a byproduct of the application of DSS or from the direct implementation of
DSS as training tools. This learning process is good for the company s future decision making
processes. Disadvantages of Decision Support Systems Though DSS are integral to the decision
making process of organizations, it introduces some problems. For instance, DSS can overemphasize
decision making. Therefore, it is important that managers be exposed to other factors that contribute to
organizational success such as socio political factors. These factors should be considered when
building DSS. Another danger posed by DSS lies in their inappropriate use by managers who assume
that they are always

Lord Brahm The Father Of Hindu Gods And God
Brahma, the father of Hindu gods and men, is depicted as the creator of the universe. He is the first
member of the Hindu Trinity and ruler of all. Brahma is acknowledged as the creator as he
periodically creates everything in the universe, periodically due to the Hindu cyclical belief of
everything being created for a certain period of time and destroyed only to be renewed in a new form
once again. Of the three greatest Hindu deities, Lord Brahma dominates the first position, that of the
creator. As creator of all things, Brahma must have people of his own flesh; the most significant one,
Goddess Saraswathy, consort and daughter of Brahma. Besides Saraswathy, there are four sages that
roam the universe as Brahma s first mind born creations and sons; Sanaka, Sanatana, Sananadana and
Sanatkumara. The four Kumaras were the only sons born out of Brahma s mind rather than his body
and were the only ones who refused his order to procreate, therefore devoted themselves to Vishnu
and celibacy. Brahma then went on to creating ten sons (Prajapatis) from his mind, who are
acknowledged as the fathers of the human race.
Lord Brahma s birth story is unique in its setting. He is said to have been born from Vishnu s navel
through the lotus flower. After the great flood, Vishnu summoned his creative powers and formed
earth in the shape of a lotus escalating from his navel. It is believed that Brahma developed from this
lotus, therefore having the lotus symbolize his birth. Brahma then

Religion, Judaism, And Islam
The city of Jerusalem, located in the country of Israel, is considered to be one of the holiest cities on
Earth. 890,428 individuals are currently living in the city ( Where is Jerusalem ). What makes
Jerusalem such a holy land is because of its significance to three religions: Christianity, Judaism, and
Islam ( History of Jerusalem ). While Jerusalem is considered the holy land , it is also a place that has
endured countless wars, bloodshed, and controversy. The city has been ruled by infamous leaders and
praised individuals, it is a city with a very rich history, and its history allows one to understand the
vital role it plays in the Palestine Israel conflict. Abraham, the father of Judaism, is the root of
Jerusalem s holiness. It is said that the Lord appeared to Abraham and said that a land (Jerusalem)
would be given to both him and his descendants ( History of Jerusalem ). It is said God spoke to
Abraham and set him through a series of trials in which Abraham proved time after time. His loyalty
to the lord never faltered, and thus, Judaism was born ( Abraham ). Jews revere this man as the first
person to teach the idea of monotheism, and it is Abraham as well, who is deeply rooted with the
beginnings of Islam ( Abraham ). The Jewish king David captured the city of Jerusalem from the
Jebusites about 1,000 years before the birth of Christ ( History of Jerusalem ). King David is explicitly
known for his wish to build a beautiful new temple in which he could honor

Radio Talk Show Host, Rush Limbaugh
Advocacy Journalism is when a journalist takes a non objective stance while speaking about a specific
topic. It is generally used to argue a specific viewpoint in politics or social matters. This form of
journalism has been around for many years. Traces of advocacy journalism date back all the way to
the 17th century with John Milton s Areopagitica (Applegate 11 12). Radio talk show host, Rush
Limbaugh, would be a modern example of an advocacy journalist because of his commonly subjective
viewpoints that he expresses to his audience. With so many media outlets for people to get their word

Voting in National Elections Should be Compulsory Not...
It was in 1928 that universal suffrage had been granted in the United Kingdom. Prior to that time,
people fought to have the right to vote so their opinions could be voiced, yet now we have that right,
voting does not seem so significant. Before deciding whether voting should be compulsory or
optional, understanding what exactly is meant by the term compulsory voting is essential. It is also
important to educate the general public more about politics so they can make an informed decision if
and when they do choose to vote. Finally, there should be a comparison with other countries which
currently enforce compulsory voting to better understand how it would work.
The term compulsory voting is a misnomer as it is impossible to monitor ... Show more content on

Perhaps making voting compulsory would encourage apathetic and apolitical people to become more
politically active and express their opinions.
There are some people who believe that they are not well informed so they do not know who to vote
for in elections. Others are prepared to express a view without having the slightest knowledge about
the subject (Kavanagh, 1983:13). However, if voting were made compulsory, political parties would
spend less money on getting out the vote , and spend more time on campaigning their policies
(Electoral Reform Society, 2009; IDEA, 2009) and so making the public more aware of what they are
trying to achieve and why people should vote for them. As less money is spent on (often negative)
campaigning, there would be a decrease in the opportunity for corruption in politics by reducing the
need for party fundraising (Faulks, 2001:24). The public should be more educated about politics and
the policies of the parties they may or may not vote for because the more intense, informed and stable
an opinion is, the more likely a person is to act on it (Kavanagh, 1983:14). Nevertheless, the
information provided in educating the public has to be interesting, something which engages public
interest and stimulates debate, as opposed to apathy and alienation (Heywood, 2007:255) and this
would be much easier to do with the enforcement of compulsory voting rather than politicians

Separtion of Church and State Essay
The Constitution of the United States was written to give citizens certain privileges and rights in the
way of free thought and freedom. The Establishment Clause was one way that civilians were
protecting religious liberty by the separation of church and state. Within our political and school
systems there have been a number of controversial issues to include religious holidays, school prayer,
teaching evolution and aid to church based schools. The Supreme Court has ruled in many cases in
regards to these religious controversial issues. The First Amendment states Congress shall make no

given vouchers to help pay for private schools. Some say this is an issue regarding the Establishment
clause. In 1973 Committee for Public Education v. Nyquist, the high court invalidated a New York
state program that provided tuition reimbursements to poor parents whose children attended private
schools, 85% of which were religious (Leaming, n.d.). The courts ruled that New York had a primary
effect of advancing religion. Since Nyquist the voucher programs are one step closer to being
recognized as constitutional through the Supreme Court. The Constitution permits vouchers to be
available for both religious and private schools through the government. School vouchers also raised
arguments from opponents and proponents. Opponents raised concern that talented students were
pulled from public schools which lowered their quality of learning while the proponents claimed their
children would receive a much better education. In 1962 Engel Et Al v. Vitale Et Al case were Prayer

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green Essay
For this project, I decided to read The Fault in Our Stars, a novel written by John Green. This book is
about 16 year old Hazel Grace, who is diagnosed with thyroid cancer. She attends weekly Cancer
Support Group, where she meets Augustus Waters, a very intelligent and hot boy who is currently in
remission. They both take a liking for each other, their relationship growing and developing
throughout the book as they fight cancer together. Along the way, Hazel learns many important lessons
about life.
To begin with, this story takes place mainly in Indianapolis in the 21st century. The story also takes
place in hospitals, support groups in churches, as well as each other s homes. From this, I can
understand when Hazel describes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This curiosity causes Augustus and Hazel to make a trip to Amsterdam to meet the author. During
their trip, Hazel finds out the Augustus s cancer has come back, which deals quite a huge blow to
Hazel. Sadly, Augustus passes away. I chose a rollercoaster to represent the plot because it
demonstrates how there are so many ups and downs in life. This takes us to the theme of the book.
I think the theme of the book was that you should always try to live every day to the fullest, as if it s
your last day. Don t spend your time mourning, but rather, cherish it. Even though Augustus finds out
before the trip that his cancer has relapsed, he decides to go to Amsterdam because he wants to make
the most of his time left. I chose a dragonfly to represent the theme because the dragonfly lives most
of its life as a nymph, flying only for a fraction of its life. The adult dragonfly only has a few months
to do everything that it needs to and wants to do. It lives its life and leaves the world without any
regrets.
The protagonist of the book is 16 year old Hazel Grace. She loves to read and watch reality TV shows
with her parents. She also is very witty, considerate and has a dry sense of humor. In my opinion, the
best symbol to represent Hazel would be a dog because dogs are intelligent, they can make you laugh,
and they re also really considerate. (They re a man s best friend!) Hazel is not

My Personal History With Communication Technology
As I look back at my personal history with communication technology I remember using many forms
of social media to communicate with my friends and family. Back in the day when I was in junior high
I remember using MySpace, Skype, and phone calls. Today on the other hand I mainly use Facebook,
Instagram, and Snapchat. There are many reasons why I use these sites but I use some sites more
frequently than others it just depends on the person I want to communicate with.
My social media usage varies on the purpose I want to use it for or with whom I want to communicate
with. The reason I used MySpace in the past was to be cool like the rest of my friends that were using
it during that time. Before I had my own cell phone I was able to have my own MySpace account. The
reason I would use MySpace is because everyone at school would use it, so I wanted to fit in with the
rest of my friends. I used MySpace to talk friends that had added me or friends of friends that I knew
about but had never met in person. I would use it to communicate with them rather than calling them
on the phone. MySpace was the site where I could portray myself in any way I wanted. I had the
choice of what pictures people could see of me, which music I liked, and other personal things that I
could choose to display. MySpace was a way for me to have some kind of social interactions with
people I did not necessarily know, love, or have an attraction to. MySpace was just a way to keep
myself connected with society

The Pros And Cons Of Zoos
During February 2014, Tania, a female Indian Elephant has been shunted around from zoo to zoo,
ending up in the Targu Mures Zoo in Romania. During her time as a captive elephant Tania has rarely
been given time to bond with other members of her species. Tania has been living for 39 years. At the
Targu Mures Zoo she is confined into a tiny enclosure, not given the company of any other elephants,
and forced to stand in her own urine and feces. This is due to sporadic, and very unsanitary cleaning of
the practices of the zoo. Tania the elephants story began in 1978 when her herd was wiped out in the
wild. After that she had spent every one of her days looking through the bars of zoos across the
continent. This story and many others is the sad truth of what zoos do to the animals that live behind
their bars. This is why Zoos should be exterminated. In the United Kingdom there was a welfare
concern for all of the elephants. 75% of elephants were overweight, only 16% could walk normally,
and solitary 20% of the elephants were free of foot problems. This is why zoos do more harm than
good. CAPS (captiveanimals.org ) states Wild animals in zoos suffer physically and mentally as their
complex social, behavioural and physical needs cannot be met in the unnatural manmade
environments. Many animals suffer from being captive in the children s fun center we now call zoos.

The problem is that some managers will search for whatever information that they can get, without
thinking what they really need. That is the problem, because too much information can be harmful as
too little, because it is not important to have a lot of information, it is important to have useful ones.
The MIS helps to provide decision makers with information that they should have to make effective
marketing decisions. Also, company needs to decide whether the benefits of having additional
information are worth of costs of providing it, and both cost and the value are hard to assess. That
means that the managers should weigh the costs of getting more information against the benefits
resulting from it. After assessing information needs, MIS develops information from internal
databases, marketing intelligence activities and marketing research. Internal database information

analysis of publicly available information about competitor and developments in the marketplace.

Nicomachean Ethics By Aristotle
In the Book X of the Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle concludes that a life of contemplation is the
highest human activity. Aristotle states that the life of reason and contemplation will be the happiest
because the gods are the happiest among all of us, and contemplation is characteristic of their own
lives. Aristotle explained this statement in details when he states that the life of contemplation is more
Godlike and since God is all powerful it is safe to say that this life will lead us to the happiest and best
life. These arguments are sound because he believes the life of contemplation to be the best life
because it is the most Godlike. And since it is Godlike it can be considered the best life. This is
therefore sound because what is considered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He explains this by stating that the gods do not have any need to worry about things humans worry
about, will not the gods seem absurd if they make contracts and return deposits, and so on? Acts of
brave men, then confronting dangers and running risks because it is noble to do so? the circumstances
of action would be found trivial and unworthy of the gods (Aristotle, p.12). Aristotle states that since
the gods do not take part in any of these actions then they are left with only the life of contemplation.
Since the life of contemplation is seen as a way of acquiring knowledge and wisdom, then
contemplative life is most worthy of the gods. And since the gods are wise and powerful it makes
sense that they are continuously contemplating. Humans have the mind of fearing the gods and always
want to please them. And we since we want to please the gods then we should follow how they live
their lives which is the life of contemplation. Therefore as the followers of the gods it is only
reasonable that if the gods live a life of contemplation we the followers should as

White Horse Character Analysis
White Horse
This novel by Alex Adams is based around a main character Zoe. She is a single 30 year old woman
who leads a normal life until a deadly virus kills 90% of the human population and genetically
changes those who survive the virus. Zoe s part time occupation is being a janitor at a pharmaceutical
company. Her goal is to make enough money to return to college one day. Zoe finds out she is
pregnant and takes herself on a journey to save her unborn baby and find the man she loves.
The main character in the text made me feel Sad that she had to leave her family but also worried
about what Zoe was going to experience on the way to find the man she loves. I could relate with the
ideas in this text as I have experienced moving away for the people I love. When I had to move
leaving my friends/family was the hardest this I have ever done. I grew up with them. The main
character was effected by this because she had never left her home town she was about to embark
herself on a journey half way across the world to find the man she loves. She doesn t even know if he

A Research Study On The Snowshoe Hare
The snowshoe hare is an animal that seems to have a high predation rate and has struggled at times to
avoid predators and different types of climate. According to Dashiell Feierabend, Knut Kielland,
(2015) the survival and predation of these snowshoe hares was researched for quite some time, yet no
true leads have been discovered such as hare s vulnerability, which leaves the question of what
predators and climates can influence their vegetation and coverage. (Feierabend Kielland, 2015).

(Feierabend Kielland, 2015). In this case, predation was the cause of death by 86%. Feierabend and
Kielland state that hares were frequently killed by goshawks within the successional forest, lynx in the
black spruce forest, and other predators. These are just some of the problems that the hares face day to
day. Hares change color depending on their climate, as well. For example, Sarah Zielinski stated that
since most animals who change color do not have control over that, they may be ill dressed and
underdressed for certain weather conditions. (Zielinksi, 2016). Zielinski stated that there was not
much evidence to back up a claim scientist made that a species could possibly be wiped out due to
weather changes and coat changes for the hares. (Zielinski, 2016). Marketa Zimova of NCSU located
in Raleigh and some other colleagues tracked around 186 snowshoe hares over the span of three years,
in two locations in Montana. The data found the result of coat color and landscape color which is
significant in both cases. The transition can take some time, and this could be deadly for the snowshoe
hare. Zielinski noted that in a study, a snowshoe hare who matched their background had a survival
rate of about 96% from week to week. Then, down to 89% when both were completely mix matched.
While that did not cause issues then, it could in the near future. (Zielinski, 2016).

Emotional Flexibility Module Analysis
Module 5 spoke of adaptive leaders and included many elements of adaptability. I found the
Emotional Flexibility concept to be the most important in the module. The concept describes one s
ability to consider their own emotions versus the emotions of others. I found emotional flexibility to
be very important because considering others emotions is key in successfully enforcing change.
Change is an exchange or give and take between the agents advocating for it, and the individuals
affected. Often times the change process is faced with many concerns and sometimes resistance due to
differences in opinions and emotions between the parties involved (leaders and followers). The
negative impact this concept would have on subordinates, peers, ... Show more content on

I will focus on active listening, while balancing when to be compassionate versus when to be firm. I
will encourage understanding the difference between empathy and sympathy, which will help us
identify how to quickly, and effectively help our people overcome negative emotions. Although we
should welcome the expression of negative feelings, we should not allow it to fester. Application of
this concept will cause subordinates to develop a higher sense of trust and loyalty to me as a leader. I
will have enabled open, effective discussions, when faced with opposing views from them. This in
turn will allow me to maneuver the unit s intent (change), while accounting for the airmen s concerns.
My peers will develop increased confidence in my competence, as they see how the application of the
concept is benefiting our airmen. This will also erase possible misunderstanding between my peers
and myself because they too, will see and feel that their emotions matter. The concept of emotional
flexibility is a great tool for productive interpersonal relationships. Hence, its application will further
develop and strengthen the relationships I have with my supervisors, enabling them to empower me to

trust me, it s the best approach. Women love jewelry. The more we get, the happier we become. But
please, we don t collect them to wear all of them together! After all, you really don t want to get

Dainty over Fine Jewelry
Recently, a picture of a bride went viral. She was covered in gold jewelry from head to below her

yourself, how many of you want that? I am sure none, if you consider yourself fashion conscious.
Well, dainty jewelry used in everyday fashion may not be an option for our traditional weddings; but

Sklovsky Art As Device Essay
Viktor Shklovsky: Art as Technique or Art as Device Viktor Borisovich Shklovsky (1893 1984) was
one of the founders of the intellectual movement OPOJAZ (Obščestvo izučenija Poètičeskogo

formalist and closely tied to Russian Formalism; Shklovsky, Boris Eichenbaum, [Vladimir Propp],
Yary Tynyanov, and other Formalists sought to put literary theory on a par with the natural sciences
(Davis 51). For one thing, these gentlemen sought to understand art by breaking it down into parts and
identifying the different devices in play, collections of devices that interact in a textual field (Davis

which Teodor Mladenov says; Human relations are seen through the eyes of a horse, which
defamiliarizes the institution of private property, illuminating its conventional and contingent

philosopher Martin Heidegger even claims that: One needs to experience the world as uncanny

Essay On The Leisured Gentleman Of Letters By Howells
It is a form that Howells came to connect with the leisured gentleman of letters, a figure who, in the
larger culture, was increasingly and pejoratively being associated with the feminine, and consequently
with leisure and consumption (Kaplan 16).
The subject of divorce provided Howells the opportunity to show himself as a serious minded author,
who focused on matters of social significance. With his democratic philosophy, Howells wanted to
disturb a class bound order that hindered the growth of democracy in the same way he wanted to put a
truthful spin on the usual love plot. Howells recognized that divorce carried the potential to do both, in
real life and in fiction. However, not without complications. Riley explains how, After the ... Show

looked at her with strong self disgust [. . .]. There is something in a young man s ideal of women at
once passionate and ascetic, so fine that any words are too gross for it. The event which intensified the
interest of his mother and sisters in Marcia had abashed Halleck; when she came so proudly to show
her baby to them all, it seemed to him like a mockery of his pity for her captivity to the love that
profaned her. [. . .] Little by little his compassion adjusted itself to the new conditions; it accepted the
child as an element of her misery in the future, when she must realize the hideous deformity of her
marriage. His prophetic feeling of this, and of her inaccessibility to human help here and hereafter,
made him sometimes afraid of her, but all the more severely he exacted of his ideal of her that she
should not fall beneath the tragic dignity of her fate through any levity of her own. Now, at her
innocent laugh, a subtle irreverence, which he was not able to exorcise, infused itself into his sense of
her. (Howells, A Modern Instance 178)
Here, we watch as Halleck s intense emotional struggle begins to take shape. Marcia s baby is a reality
that wounds his moral value, provoking his own self disgust at his reaction. By showing him like this,
he indicates that self disgust is a realistic modification to these idealizing tendencies. However,
Howells displays Halleck as being too fragile to act inversely.

Judith With The Head Of Holofernes
As artistic movements sweep certain time periods, location is an important factor in the development
of an artist s vision. While Europe is a compact continent, it s artistic productions can be largely
influenced by the country of origin. This can be seen in multiple artistic movements such as the
Renaissance where works from Italy and England while largely influenced by the same artistic goals
produce works with stylistic differences. Baroque style art was also subject to these geographical
differences influencing the vision of the artist. Understanding the complex layers of an artistic
movement requires one to analysis works of art and how they compare to other pieces produced
during the same time. By taking two works with the same subject matter, one can effectively dissect
the influences that time and place have had on the artist s execution. In 1530 Germany, Lucas Cranach
the Elder produced a painting titled Judith with the Head of Holofernes depicting the biblical heroine
Judith with the severed head of Holofernes. A little more than a hundred years later in 1640 Italy,
Massimo Stanzione created a similar representation of this story in his work, Judith with the Head of
Holofernes. Both artist took the same biblical story but produced two individual works invoking
different effects one through Baroque style and the other a Renaissance interpuation.

Historical Development Of The Ruled Based System Methodology
Historical Development of the Ruled based system methodology 95 Computer based clinical decision
support (CDS) system employ decision rules that either uses procedure rules or production rules. A
procedure is a compilation of data and logical statements that influence them by using control
structures to control the decision making flow. A rule based system, utilizing a heuristic approach,
comprises a set of statements called production rules. Production rules were initially studied in the
1940s and used in a different field of grammar. According to Greenes (2014), they were created as
axioms to aid in rewriting strings as a section of the specification of a formal grammar. This concept
was then transferred to solving problems. It took the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A final advantage to using the production rule is that only some rules may be altered to achieve a
result, compared to modifying the immense code in procedural rule systems (Greenes, 2014).
However, the production rules independence in itself creates a disadvantage. Due to its independent
nature, the output action may not be able to be determined. This is amplified when the knowledge base
comprises over one hundred rules in its system. This vast rule system prevents a knowledge engineer
from finding similar rules when updating the knowledge base. Hence, specific tools were created to
circumvent this issue (Greenes, 2014). Furthermore, a rule based system can implement either a
backward chain reasoning or a forward chain reasoning. In Figure 2.6: Rule based system, it illustrates
the backward chain method, also referred to as goal directed reasoning. Here, the goal is to diagnose a
disorder y which resides in the action part of the equation. Now, the inference engine must ascertain if
x (i.e., the condition) is true. Thus, the inference engine locates any data/rules that make the condition
x true. The rule is abandoned if it cannot fulfill the goal (Greenes, 2014). In contrast, the forward
chain (also known as data driven reasoning) is utilized when data assembles consistently in an
application such as in patient monitoring. Here, the inference engine employs new information or
concluded values to apply any rules

Erasmus And The Praise Of Folly
During the Renaissance of the sixteenth century, Europe experienced a golden age of new works of
art, literature, and advancement in medicine. However, as these advancements spread across the
European nation states, the order of the Protestant Reformation began to rise. Christian humanists and
middle class patrons opposed the religious mores, creating unorthodox standpoints of the European
Christendom. Likewise, in Erasmus The Praise of Folly, the allegorical figure, Dame Folly, criticizes
the follies of influential groups and individuals of the sixteenth century. Rather than creating a written
work that agrees with the conventional views and methods of the period, Erasmus takes a modern
approach instead. Erasmus uses a peculiar technique ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When one provides criticism, it is usually directed to those in the same social division, especially
those one is close with. In addition, the feedback is delivered in a calm and courteous tone. This
combination would prevent those that are receiving the feedback from feeling embarrassed or uneasy.
However, Erasmus does the opposite, through which he bluntly attacks groups that are highly
influential during the Renaissance period: doctors, lawyers, artists, scientists, and theologians. Dame
Folly appoints them as having the greatest affinity with folly (lines 29 30). More specifically,
medicine is more rhetoric than true, artists are merely complacent, and those in the religious
community do not deserve the religious and monks titles. In addition, although Erasmus specifically
addresses these disciplines, his discernments also expose the follies of all human beings. However, it
is easier to use the titles of those of higher status, for it receives more attention. Essentially, it is a bold
decision to stand out against those that make up what is the Renaissance or what has become socially
accepted. Similar to the function of satire, attacking higher individuals creates a controversial quarrel.
Furthermore, modern works usually result in these quarrels and unexpected reactions, for the audience
are not accustomed to what they are viewing. As a result, Erasmus usage of modern techniques helps

Business and Management in Context
INTRODUCTION
A number of different major schools of management thoughts have been emerged since 100 years ago.
Various views of management have been arisen and affected the managerial skills both in the past and
the present.
The whole world had been changed dramatically during the last 100 years. As Clarke and Clegg point
out that the increasing rate of change and increasing complexity in the business world is making it
harder and harder for managers to find simple statements of management truth. This assignment is
going to discuss the changes in the last 50 years which have been affected the three basic skills,
Technical skill, Human skill and Conceptual skill, cited by Robert L. Katz in 1950s. And try to

Technical skill is still one of the important elements for effective management.
Katz considered that human skill was significant for effective management. Managers should have
ability to work with, understand and motivate people as individuals or groups. Workers are critical
success factor to the implementation of management thoughts in achieving company s goal.
Respectively, managers have to show their support to their workers and provide them incentive to
work hard for the organisation.
Human relation approach would enhance the workers efficiency: the Hawthorne experiments have
pointed out the relationship between the human factors and productivity, such as by giving workers a
break and hot snack could increase the productivity. Furthermore, some new management ideas were
generated in this experiment, such as, leadership, communications, output restrictions, motivation and
job design (Morden, 1996). These skills are adopted by vast majority of modern management.
Conceptual skill was also recommended by Katz. Managers are required to have mental ability to
coordinate and integrate all things related to organisation and to perceive things broadly.
Specialization is good enough to classify tasks into specific area; however, different management
functions shall not be put together. Therefore, manager should integrate all the elements of the
organisation s situation in order to maximize the productivity and profitability. This skill is very

American society and of human nature, and brought about a new tradition in American literature. ...

They did so again the next summer, and in 1818 became, in Elizabeth s words, permanent residents of
Raymond (Van Doren 11). In the Maine wilderness, Nathaniel, who because of his injury had become
gloomy and listless with the belief that he would never be active again, learned once more to have a
good time. His foot had gradually healed, and the woods of Raymond were a place for him to run free
and recuperate from the town life that had cramped him. He enjoyed the time in Raymond thoroughly,
and hated to leave when, in 1819, his mother decided it was time for him to prepare for the rest of his
life. Nathaniel was sent back to Salem, to live once more with his Manning relatives while he was
being tutored by Benjamin Oliver in preparation for college.
For admission to Bowdoin College, he had to learn to write Latin grammatically, and to be well versed
in Geography, in Walsh s Arithmetic, Cicero s Select Orations, the Bucolics, Georgics, and the Aeneid
of Virgil, Sallust, the Greek Testament, and the Collectanea Graeca Minora (Van Doren 16). This was
accomplished by the fall of 1821, and then he entered Bowdoin College in Maine. During his years
there he made many friends, two of which were to remain his closest friends throughout his life:
Franklin Pierce, later to be President; and Horatio Bridge. Hawthorne was not an outstanding student.
He had never liked school, which in those days was

Buddhist Meditation Practice Essay
Over this past year I have been involved in a buddhist meditation practice, I have been through stages
of resisting, doubting, and now more accepting this practice. The buddhist meditation practice I
participated in is a controversial religion in Taiwan. Even though the religion has almost a hundred
thousand followers including celebrities and business leaders, the religion itself is still being judged by
others due to its beliefs. The leader himself, Miao Chan, used to be a stuntman and established the
religion twenty years ago. Few years later, he claimed that he has attained full Buddhahood just like
Buddha did 2600 years ago. The practice consists of meditation and buddhism learning. On weekdays,
followers attend small sessions of meditation and learn about buddhism. On Sundays, followers go to
a stadium and meditate with Miao Chan for two hours. My mother joined the religious group one and
a half year ago and invited me to meditate with her. I was persuaded to join the group and hated it at
first. I always heard that meditation is a healthy exercise for people, so when my mother started doing
it I was really happy for her. Then it all changed once I joined her. I realized that there was not just
meditations, we were also asked to pray to Master Miao Chan. Master Miao Chan was not like any
monk I see in other buddhist group, he is relatively young and has a wife that attends all the Sunday
meditation session with him. To me, bowing down to a man that claims himself

Lamps In The Whirlpool Character Analysis
Rajam krishnan s perception of triumphing over the whirlpool of societal clutches in
Lamps in the Whirlpool.
Contemporary Tamil Literary Scene is rich with the contributions of more than thirty writers both men
and women. Rajam Krishnan is one among these great writers who had made their imprints in the
pages of history of Tamil Literature. She was born in 1925 Musiri, Trichy district of Tamil Nadu. Her
childhood and early adult life were remarkably traditional. Her education was interrupted by her
marriage at the age of fourteen. Rajam Krishnan writes that it was unthinkable that a girl brought up in
a conventional middle class Brahmin family in a village would become a writer especially in her case,
since she was the youngest member ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She has been instructed that a woman s only goal is to be a dutiful wife and daughter in law. She is a
post graduate and has served as a teacher in a school for eight years. She married Swaminathan who is

womanhood. After bearing two daughters and a son, and serving her mother in law with
uncompromising devotion for seventeen years she realizes the emptiness of her life. She is shocked to
know that she has all along been exploited both by her husband and mother in law. Girija s mother in

A Brief Note On Climate Change, Biodiversity, And...
Using the Eurobarometer 83.4: Climate Change, Biodiversity, and Discrimination against Minority
Groups (May June 2015, ICPSR 36403) for the purpose of comparing various counties in the
European Union. Eurobarometer is a series of public opinion surveys conducted regularly on behalf of
the European Commission. The scope of the project would be to look into the information given in the
Eurobarometer and to compare why some countries have common characteristic while others have a
great range between them on certain characteristics. In addition, it covers these various countries the
geographic coverage is Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark,
Estonia, European Union, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy,
Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Poland, Portugal, Romania,
Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden. From a time period of 2015 05 30 2015 06 08.
For this data collection project, I wanted to focus on countries that came from a wide range of
economic and social backgrounds. The purpose of doing so was to gain a better understanding on how
differing histories of certain countries could affect the answers that they responded with. The wide
array of answers would better show the diversity of these countries. I theorize that citizens in these
countries will have a high response rate of citizens who answer affirmatively to being informed.
Meaning that the citizens in these

Descriptive Essay About My Wife
My wife is a lovely woman who is surrounded by people who love her, has food to eat, clothes to
wear, and a roof over her head, but often spends her time wondering about the things she doesn t have
in life. These things being jewelry, fancy clothes, lots of money, and an overall luxurious life style. I
want to give her all these things and give her a chance to go out. So I spent a very long time working
to get an invitation to The Minister of Education and Mme Georges evening reception. One day I
finally received the invitation and rushed home.
I walked inside my home, closed the door behind me,took off my coat and hung it up, walked into the
kitchen to see my wife, envelope in hand with excitement. I walk up to my wife and greet her, I hand
her the envelope and she begins to tear it open. I watch and listen as she pulls out the envelope and
begins reading it, when she s done I expect to see her face lit up with happiness but am disappointed
when I see her expression change drastically. She seems angry and sad at the same time. Its complete
silence as she throws the letter onto the table. I m about to ask if she is ok when she stops me and
murmurs the words What good is that to me?
I am almost at a lost of words and confused. But, my dear, I thought you would be thrilled to death.
You never get a chance to go out, and this is a real affair, a wonderful one! I had an awful time getting
a card. Everybody wants one. You ll see all the most important people there. Then

The World Order s And Private Institution
Over 20 percent of the global population live in unsustainable impoverished conditions, surviving on
less than a dollar a day, with approximately 50 percent living on less than two dollars. Over 2 ½
billion people have a 10% infant mortality rate versus the 0.006% of infant deaths in developed
countries. As conditions worsen the poor rich gap widens through progressive decades, reaching an
average per capita income of 74:1 in 1997. A debate has emerged as the whether developed countries
possess a duty to ameliorate the living condition of the global poor and on what grounds said duty is
justified. This inquiry prompts an ethical analysis of the world order s role, as well as individual
institutions role in worsening or failing to improve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, I will critically analyze and disprove the counter argument, which attempts to relieve us of the
aforementioned duties, by discrediting the roles of institutions and the developed in prolongation of
impoverishment. Elements of Pogge s philosophical argument will also be addressed, though the
overall arguments of this paper take a differentiated approach in justifying the acceptance of Western
Society s obligation to the global poor. There exists a global order that proclaims its primary purpose
is to facilitate cooperation between rich and poor nations. The presence of said order creates an
uneven distribution of advantage among nations, an imbalance sometimes thought to be the result of
an array of independent factors. Mathias Risse suggests the global order harms third world nations
through Uncompensated Exclusion; where privileged countries are given several advantages over the
worse off in regards to natural resources. Here the benefits of the impoverished are minimal. This
defies the moral rule of Egalitarian Ownership, which describes all natural resources as belonging to
all humankind. By denying the global poor an equal portion of natural resources during international
commerce the order violates their people s human right to a standard of living adequate for the health
and well being of oneself and one s family, including food, clothing, housing and

Tutankhamen Case Study
In Chapter three, Carnarvon and Carter find the tomb of Tutankhamen. It takes a total of six seasons to
finish the excavation due to complications other than the site itself. These complications including
workers that were untrustworthy, the government implementing new rules, newspapers fighting over
who gets the story first, and natives upset with the foreigners excavating the site. Carter decided it was
best to narrow it down to just one journalist to exclusively report the site, he chose the Times, which
didn t go over well with other reporters. A few years later he decided to add a local paper that could
report new news about the excavation the following day. In previous chapters there were issues of
incorrect documentation of artifacts.

physicians to report reasonable suspicion of child abuse. The National Association of Counsel for
Children (NACC) was founded in 1977. Congress passed the Adoption Assistance and Child Welfare
Act in 1980, this act was designed to remedy problems in the foster care system and made federal
funding for foster care dependent on certain reforms. It was amended in 1983 to include reasonable
efforts which provided special procedures before removing a child and reunification strategies after
removal. In 1981, Title XX of the Social Security Act was amended to include the Social Services

Failure to report suspected cases of child abuse places them at risk for professional and legal
sanctions, including fines and jail sentences. Those who do not report abuse may be charged for
negligence or accessory to assault. Professionals are ethically and legally mandated to report
suspicions of child abuse to authorities. Most states designate early childhood caregivers, specialists,
and administrators (the common term educators consists of professionals who work with children) as
delegated reporters of child neglect and abuse. Reporting suspicions of abuse enables child protection
services and/or law enforcement to move towards early intervention. Once a person is found to have
neglected or abused a child by criminal or family court, they are registered into the Central Registry of
Child Abuse and Neglect. This registry is confidential by federal and state statute and can only be
accessed as permissible by the law. The service is to ensure that a person who has been determined as
a threat to children are not working in certain fields that involve the supervision or care of children.
Central registry and department records are used increasingly to screen adults for various employment
or volunteer positions. Approximately 30 states and the District of Columbia allow or require a check

  • 2. Gender Stratification in the Workplace Student s Name Professor s Name Course Title April 12, 2013 The Experience of Gender in Gender Biased Professions Ruth Simpson interviewed 40 males working in the female dominated professions of primary school teachers, flight attendants, nursing, and librarians to better understand their experiences. Of those interviewed, only two found their career choice unsatisfactory and had plans to leave (356). The rest were glad they chose or stumbled upon their current career. Simpson contrasted the experiences of male flight attendants, nurses, librarians, and primary school teachers with the theory that minority workers are generally penalized by increased performance expectations, isolation, and limited opportunities for promotion (352). Researchers have shown that women in a male dominated workplace suffer from what has been called token status. A token female employee s high visibility often increases the pressure to perform at levels above their male peers, their isolation as male employees exaggerate the differences between men and women, and stereotyping which tends to limit opportunities for advancement. By contrast, men seem to benefit on several levels by choosing a career in a female dominated workplace (Simpson 356 364). Simpson found four main effects that were experienced by her interviewees and these were: (1) career effect, (2) assumed authority effect, (3), special consideration effect, and (4) zone of comfort effect. The career effect experience was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Ethan Frome By Edith Wharton Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton is set in a small New England town in the early twentieth century. It revolves around three main characters: Ethan Frome, a rural farmer; Zeena Frome, his chronically ill wife; and Mattie Silver, Zeena s cousin who lives with them in a serving capacity. These characters each have their own journey through this story, but those journeys entwine and affect everyone else with the actions each character takes. Ethan Frome as the title character perhaps has the most important journey in this novel, though, and several recurring themes affect each of his actions and decisions. Marriage, love and desire, and desire versus duty are the themes most guiding Ethan Frome as he works through his feelings for the two women in his life because they define every step of his journey from beginning to end. To begin, Ethan s unhappy marriage with Zeena is the starting point from which all of his decisions are made. The marriage itself happened under almost false pretenses when Zeena came to help care for his sick mother. After being in such an oppressive, silent environment for so long, Zeena s volubility was music in his ears, and her capable, competent attitude restored his shaken balance and magnified his sense of what he owed her (26). This initial exposure to Zeena led Ethan to a kind of bedazzlement, so when he saw her ready to leave after his mother s funeral, he was seized with an unreasoning dread of being left alone on the farm and asked her to stay ... Henderson English 1101 29 October 2015 Traditional Education vs. Online Education Nowadays, education is becoming one of the fundamental things in a human lifetime; most people are trying to achieve a higher education. As technology develops considerably, it has bearings on every area of our life, even in the way of education. The development of technology has a large impact on education. Before this progression of technology, the education system was only traditional. Currently, the education system has been changed. The development of technology has allowed the education system online along with traditionally. Traditional and online instructions are both great ways to learn. While both types of instructions have the same purpose of educating students having good skills about everything, but there are some significant differences between them such as flexibility, learning the course content, communication, and the cost. The first distinction between traditional education and online education is flexibility. The motivation of flexible learning is offering students choices about when, where and how they learn. It assists students to acquire skills and characteristics to adapt successfully to shift. Traditional education requires a particular place or environment for learning and instruction. It limits the number of students that can study at the same time and it would depend on the size of class and education institution. Moreover, traditional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Local-Color Regionalism in Tennessees Partner Essay The literary movement of local color regionalism in American literature is a very distinctive and interesting form of fiction writing that effectively combines regional characteristics, dialect, customs and humor. In Bret Harte s Tennessee s Partner, these characteristics helped the story jump off the page, allowing the reader to understand the times rather than just the characters. And, for that reason, I feel that this is an outstanding piece of work. One of the most distinguishable characteristics of local color regionalism writing is the usage of authentic dialect based on the story s setting. In Tennessee s Partner, Harte uses this tactic best when quoting the title character. For example, when Tennessee s Partner suddenly appears ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I call. LYNCH: Two bowers and an ace. TENNESSEE: That takes me. Another local color characteristic that Harte used in Tennessee s Partner was the development of characters based on their setting. The reader never feels like he knows much at all about any of the characters even Tennessee and his partner at all. In fact, neither does the narrator. But through the use of description, the two main characters become more stereotypes of miners in the Gold Rush era; they were typical rugged, gambling, scorched skinned, strong, simple womanizing men. This much is true with no one more than the title character, as his actions reveal more about the time s concept of death during his friend s execution and burial rather than going too deep into his own personal feelings about this particular death. Tennessee s Partner quickly compares his friend s burial to all the other drunken trips his shouldered with Tennessee in the past and seemingly moves on from the finality of the situation with ease. Lastly, Harte uses the setting as a major element of the story, almost turning the vast land of Tennessee s Partner into a character itself. The settings in most local color stories usually have an emphasis on nature and the land is usually remote and out of the way, and the setting of this story is no different. When reading the section of the story regarding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1939 the first book, Alcoholics Anonymous, was published. It held all of the struggles and hope filled stories of some of the first alcoholics that joined the group. This book, later called The Big Book , would lay down all of the suggestions for an alcoholic if he or she wanted to live a sober life. The program focuses on the 12 steps to help newcomers adjust to this way of life. Upon entering the program, it is suggested that the newcomer pick a sponsor to help guide them through the steps. Furthermore, service work within the fellowship is also recommended. The sole purpose of Alcoholics Anonymous is to help someone achieve sobriety. As a non alcoholic, it is easy to look at a fellowship as big as A.A. and think there may be other motives. There is no other purpose in A.A. In the Big Book, it states, Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. To have any other mission would be to destroy the foundation this program was built on. • 12. Lord Brahm The Father Of Hindu Gods And God Brahma, the father of Hindu gods and men, is depicted as the creator of the universe. He is the first member of the Hindu Trinity and ruler of all. Brahma is acknowledged as the creator as he periodically creates everything in the universe, periodically due to the Hindu cyclical belief of everything being created for a certain period of time and destroyed only to be renewed in a new form once again. Of the three greatest Hindu deities, Lord Brahma dominates the first position, that of the creator. As creator of all things, Brahma must have people of his own flesh; the most significant one, Goddess Saraswathy, consort and daughter of Brahma. Besides Saraswathy, there are four sages that roam the universe as Brahma s first mind born creations and sons; Sanaka, Sanatana, Sananadana and Sanatkumara. The four Kumaras were the only sons born out of Brahma s mind rather than his body and were the only ones who refused his order to procreate, therefore devoted themselves to Vishnu and celibacy. Brahma then went on to creating ten sons (Prajapatis) from his mind, who are acknowledged as the fathers of the human race. Lord Brahma s birth story is unique in its setting. He is said to have been born from Vishnu s navel through the lotus flower. After the great flood, Vishnu summoned his creative powers and formed earth in the shape of a lotus escalating from his navel. It is believed that Brahma developed from this lotus, therefore having the lotus symbolize his birth. Brahma then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Religion, Judaism, And Islam The city of Jerusalem, located in the country of Israel, is considered to be one of the holiest cities on Earth. 890,428 individuals are currently living in the city ( Where is Jerusalem ). What makes Jerusalem such a holy land is because of its significance to three religions: Christianity, Judaism, and Islam ( History of Jerusalem ). While Jerusalem is considered the holy land , it is also a place that has endured countless wars, bloodshed, and controversy. The city has been ruled by infamous leaders and praised individuals, it is a city with a very rich history, and its history allows one to understand the vital role it plays in the Palestine Israel conflict. Abraham, the father of Judaism, is the root of Jerusalem s holiness. It is said that the Lord appeared to Abraham and said that a land (Jerusalem) would be given to both him and his descendants ( History of Jerusalem ). It is said God spoke to Abraham and set him through a series of trials in which Abraham proved time after time. His loyalty to the lord never faltered, and thus, Judaism was born ( Abraham ). Jews revere this man as the first person to teach the idea of monotheism, and it is Abraham as well, who is deeply rooted with the beginnings of Islam ( Abraham ). • 16. Voting in National Elections Should be Compulsory Not... It was in 1928 that universal suffrage had been granted in the United Kingdom. Prior to that time, people fought to have the right to vote so their opinions could be voiced, yet now we have that right, voting does not seem so significant. Before deciding whether voting should be compulsory or optional, understanding what exactly is meant by the term compulsory voting is essential. It is also important to educate the general public more about politics so they can make an informed decision if and when they do choose to vote. Finally, there should be a comparison with other countries which currently enforce compulsory voting to better understand how it would work. The term compulsory voting is a misnomer as it is impossible to monitor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Perhaps making voting compulsory would encourage apathetic and apolitical people to become more politically active and express their opinions. There are some people who believe that they are not well informed so they do not know who to vote for in elections. Others are prepared to express a view without having the slightest knowledge about the subject (Kavanagh, 1983:13). However, if voting were made compulsory, political parties would spend less money on getting out the vote , and spend more time on campaigning their policies (Electoral Reform Society, 2009; IDEA, 2009) and so making the public more aware of what they are trying to achieve and why people should vote for them. As less money is spent on (often negative) campaigning, there would be a decrease in the opportunity for corruption in politics by reducing the need for party fundraising (Faulks, 2001:24). The public should be more educated about politics and the policies of the parties they may or may not vote for because the more intense, informed and stable an opinion is, the more likely a person is to act on it (Kavanagh, 1983:14). Nevertheless, the information provided in educating the public has to be interesting, something which engages public interest and stimulates debate, as opposed to apathy and alienation (Heywood, 2007:255) and this would be much easier to do with the enforcement of compulsory voting rather than politicians ... The courts ruled that New York had a primary effect of advancing religion. Since Nyquist the voucher programs are one step closer to being recognized as constitutional through the Supreme Court. The Constitution permits vouchers to be available for both religious and private schools through the government. School vouchers also raised arguments from opponents and proponents. During their trip, Hazel finds out the Augustus s cancer has come back, which deals quite a huge blow to Hazel. Sadly, Augustus passes away. I chose a rollercoaster to represent the plot because it demonstrates how there are so many ups and downs in life. This takes us to the theme of the book. I think the theme of the book was that you should always try to live every day to the fullest, as if it s your last day. Don t spend your time mourning, but rather, cherish it. Even though Augustus finds out before the trip that his cancer has relapsed, he decides to go to Amsterdam because he wants to make the most of his time left. I chose a dragonfly to represent the theme because the dragonfly lives most of its life as a nymph, flying only for a fraction of its life. The adult dragonfly only has a few months to do everything that it needs to and wants to do. It lives its life and leaves the world without any regrets. The protagonist of the book is 16 year old Hazel Grace. She loves to read and watch reality TV shows with her parents. She also is very witty, considerate and has a dry sense of humor. In my opinion, the best symbol to represent Hazel would be a dog because dogs are intelligent, they can make you laugh, and they re also really considerate. (They re a man s best friend!) My Personal History With Communication Technology As I look back at my personal history with communication technology I remember using many forms of social media to communicate with my friends and family. Back in the day when I was in junior high I remember using MySpace, Skype, and phone calls. Today on the other hand I mainly use Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. There are many reasons why I use these sites but I use some sites more frequently than others it just depends on the person I want to communicate with. My social media usage varies on the purpose I want to use it for or with whom I want to communicate with. The reason I used MySpace in the past was to be cool like the rest of my friends that were using it during that time. Before I had my own cell phone I was able to have my own MySpace account. The reason I would use MySpace is because everyone at school would use it, so I wanted to fit in with the rest of my friends. I used MySpace to talk friends that had added me or friends of friends that I knew about but had never met in person. I would use it to communicate with them rather than calling them on the phone. MySpace was the site where I could portray myself in any way I wanted. I had the choice of what pictures people could see of me, which music I liked, and other personal things that I could choose to display. This is due to sporadic, and very unsanitary cleaning of the practices of the zoo. Tania the elephants story began in 1978 when her herd was wiped out in the wild. After that she had spent every one of her days looking through the bars of zoos across the continent. This story and many others is the sad truth of what zoos do to the animals that live behind their bars. This is why Zoos should be exterminated. In the United Kingdom there was a welfare concern for all of the elephants. 75% of elephants were overweight, only 16% could walk normally, and solitary 20% of the elephants were free of foot problems. This is why zoos do more harm than good. CAPS (captiveanimals.org ) states Wild animals in zoos suffer physically and mentally as their complex social, behavioural and physical needs cannot be met in the unnatural manmade environments. Aristotle states that the life of reason and contemplation will be the happiest because the gods are the happiest among all of us, and contemplation is characteristic of their own lives. Aristotle explained this statement in details when he states that the life of contemplation is more Godlike and since God is all powerful it is safe to say that this life will lead us to the happiest and best life. These arguments are sound because he believes the life of contemplation to be the best life because it is the most Godlike. And since it is Godlike it can be considered the best life. Aristotle states that since the gods do not take part in any of these actions then they are left with only the life of contemplation. Since the life of contemplation is seen as a way of acquiring knowledge and wisdom, then contemplative life is most worthy of the gods. And since the gods are wise and powerful it makes sense that they are continuously contemplating. Humans have the mind of fearing the gods and always want to please them. These are just some of the problems that the hares face day to day. Hares change color depending on their climate, as well. The subject of divorce provided Howells the opportunity to show himself as a serious minded author, who focused on matters of social significance. With his democratic philosophy, Howells wanted to disturb a class bound order that hindered the growth of democracy in the same way he wanted to put a truthful spin on the usual love plot. There is something in a young man s ideal of women at once passionate and ascetic, so fine that any words are too gross for it. The event which intensified the interest of his mother and sisters in Marcia had abashed Halleck; when she came so proudly to show her baby to them all, it seemed to him like a mockery of his pity for her captivity to the love that profaned her. [. . .] Little by little his compassion adjusted itself to the new conditions; it accepted the child as an element of her misery in the future, when she must realize the hideous deformity of her marriage. His prophetic feeling of this, and of her inaccessibility to human help here and hereafter, made him sometimes afraid of her, but all the more severely he exacted of his ideal of her that she should not fall beneath the tragic dignity of her fate through any levity of her own. Now, at her innocent laugh, a subtle irreverence, which he was not able to exorcise, infused itself into his sense of her. While Europe is a compact continent, it s artistic productions can be largely influenced by the country of origin. This can be seen in multiple artistic movements such as the Renaissance where works from Italy and England while largely influenced by the same artistic goals produce works with stylistic differences. Baroque style art was also subject to these geographical differences influencing the vision of the artist. Understanding the complex layers of an artistic movement requires one to analysis works of art and how they compare to other pieces produced during the same time. By taking two works with the same subject matter, one can effectively dissect the influences that time and place have had on the artist s execution. In 1530 Germany, Lucas Cranach the Elder produced a painting titled Judith with the Head of Holofernes depicting the biblical heroine Judith with the severed head of Holofernes. A little more than a hundred years later in 1640 Italy, Massimo Stanzione created a similar representation of this story in his work, Judith with the Head of Holofernes. A rule based system, utilizing a heuristic approach, comprises a set of statements called production rules. Production rules were initially studied in the 1940s and used in a different field of grammar. A final advantage to using the production rule is that only some rules may be altered to achieve a result, compared to modifying the immense code in procedural rule systems (Greenes, 2014). However, the production rules independence in itself creates a disadvantage. Due to its independent nature, the output action may not be able to be determined. This is amplified when the knowledge base comprises over one hundred rules in its system. This vast rule system prevents a knowledge engineer from finding similar rules when updating the knowledge base. Hence, specific tools were created to circumvent this issue (Greenes, 2014). Furthermore, a rule based system can implement either a backward chain reasoning or a forward chain reasoning. In Figure 2.6: Rule based system, it illustrates the backward chain method, also referred to as goal directed reasoning. Here, the goal is to diagnose a disorder y which resides in the action part of the equation. Now, the inference engine must ascertain if x (i.e., the condition) is true. Thus, the inference engine locates any data/rules that make the condition x true. The rule is abandoned if it cannot fulfill the goal (Greenes, 2014). Examples Of Stigma In The Elephant Man ERVIN GOFFMAN S SOCIAL STIGMA , AND PRESENTATION OF SELF IN EVERYDAY LIFE Stigma is a corrupting and degrading demeanor of the society that dishonors a person or a group of persons because of a trait, (for example, a sickness, disfigurement, colour, nationality, religion and so forth). The subsequent adapting conduct of the influenced individual results in internalized stigma. This apparent or disguised disgrace by the disparaged individual is equally destructive regardless of whether genuine discrimination happens. Stigma wrecks a man s nobility; underestimates the affected people; abuses fundamental human rights; especially reduces the chances of a stigmatized individual of accomplishing maximum capacity; ... Goffman said that we display a progression of veils to others, enacting, controlling and staging how we appear. We are always concerned with how we come across, always attempting to showcase ourselves in the best light. No matter where we are, we always put on a mask to get what we want and to be where we want to be. We get influenced by what is considered to be beautiful and good by the society. We become who others want us to be. According to Goffman, we are active and knowledgeable. We devise our own conduct and guide and control how others see us. We are different in social settings than alone. Thus we are special con artists . We play many diverse roles dictated by the circumstances we are in. We try to appear as what we would want to appear, depending upon who we are interacting with. This is apparent in awkward situations where we suddenly find ourselves attempting to assume two conflicting parts, like when we meet people from different social circles, and need to juggle the masks that we ve put ... • 40. The Power of Nathaniel Hawthorne Essay The Power of Nathaniel Hawthorne New England in the early 1800 s, before the Civil War, was a place teeming with artists, intellectuals, and reformers of every sort. Many of America s great literary geniuses came out of this era; and among the greatest of these was Nathaniel Hawthorne. He was, as Q. D. Leavis put it, the critic and interpreter of American cultural history and thereby the finder and creator of a literary tradition (Kaul 27), and, a sociological novelist in effect, employing a poetic technique which communicates instead of stating his findings (Kaul 28). In his stories, Hawthorne pointed out many characteristics of American society and of human nature, and brought about a new tradition in American literature. ... In the Maine wilderness, Nathaniel, who because of his injury had become gloomy and listless with the belief that he would never be active again, learned once more to have a good time. His foot had gradually healed, and the woods of Raymond were a place for him to run free and recuperate from the town life that had cramped him. He enjoyed the time in Raymond thoroughly, and hated to leave when, in 1819, his mother decided it was time for him to prepare for the rest of his life. Nathaniel was sent back to Salem, to live once more with his Manning relatives while he was being tutored by Benjamin Oliver in preparation for college. For admission to Bowdoin College, he had to learn to write Latin grammatically, and to be well versed in Geography, in Walsh s Arithmetic, Cicero s Select Orations, the Bucolics, Georgics, and the Aeneid of Virgil, Sallust, the Greek Testament, and the Collectanea Graeca Minora (Van Doren 16). This was accomplished by the fall of 1821, and then he entered Bowdoin College in Maine. During his years there he made many friends, two of which were to remain his closest friends throughout his life: Franklin Pierce, later to be President; and Horatio Bridge. Hawthorne was not an outstanding student. He had never liked school, which in those days was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Buddhist Meditation Practice Essay Over this past year I have been involved in a buddhist meditation practice, I have been through stages of resisting, doubting, and now more accepting this practice. The buddhist meditation practice I participated in is a controversial religion in Taiwan. Even though the religion has almost a hundred thousand followers including celebrities and business leaders, the religion itself is still being judged by others due to its beliefs. The leader himself, Miao Chan, used to be a stuntman and established the religion twenty years ago. Few years later, he claimed that he has attained full Buddhahood just like Buddha did 2600 years ago. The practice consists of meditation and buddhism learning. On weekdays, followers attend small sessions of meditation and learn about buddhism. On Sundays, followers go to a stadium and meditate with Miao Chan for two hours. My mother joined the religious group one and a half year ago and invited me to meditate with her. I was persuaded to join the group and hated it at first. I always heard that meditation is a healthy exercise for people, so when my mother started doing it I was really happy for her. Then it all changed once I joined her. I realized that there was not just meditations, we were also asked to pray to Master Miao Chan. Master Miao Chan was not like any monk I see in other buddhist group, he is relatively young and has a wife that attends all the Sunday meditation session with him. To me, bowing down to a man that claims himself ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The purpose of doing so was to gain a better understanding on how differing histories of certain countries could affect the answers that they responded with. The wide array of answers would better show the diversity of these countries. I theorize that citizens in these countries will have a high response rate of citizens who answer affirmatively to being informed. Meaning that the citizens in these ... Descriptive Essay About My Wife My wife is a lovely woman who is surrounded by people who love her, has food to eat, clothes to wear, and a roof over her head, but often spends her time wondering about the things she doesn t have in life. These things being jewelry, fancy clothes, lots of money, and an overall luxurious life style. I want to give her all these things and give her a chance to go out. So I spent a very long time working to get an invitation to The Minister of Education and Mme Georges evening reception. One day I finally received the invitation and rushed home. I walked inside my home, closed the door behind me,took off my coat and hung it up, walked into the kitchen to see my wife, envelope in hand with excitement. I walk up to my wife and greet her, I hand her the envelope and she begins to tear it open. I watch and listen as she pulls out the envelope and begins reading it, when she s done I expect to see her face lit up with happiness but am disappointed when I see her expression change drastically. She seems angry and sad at the same time. Its complete silence as she throws the letter onto the table. I m about to ask if she is ok when she stops me and murmurs the words What good is that to me? I am almost at a lost of words and confused. But, my dear, I thought you would be thrilled to death. You never get a chance to go out, and this is a real affair, a wonderful one! The World Order s And Private Institution Over 20 percent of the global population live in unsustainable impoverished conditions, surviving on less than a dollar a day, with approximately 50 percent living on less than two dollars. Over 2 ½ billion people have a 10% infant mortality rate versus the 0.006% of infant deaths in developed countries. As conditions worsen the poor rich gap widens through progressive decades, reaching an average per capita income of 74:1 in 1997. A debate has emerged as the whether developed countries possess a duty to ameliorate the living condition of the global poor and on what grounds said duty is justified. This inquiry prompts an ethical analysis of the world order s role, as well as individual institutions role in worsening or failing to improve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, I will critically analyze and disprove the counter argument, which attempts to relieve us of the aforementioned duties, by discrediting the roles of institutions and the developed in prolongation of impoverishment. Elements of Pogge s philosophical argument will also be addressed, though the overall arguments of this paper take a differentiated approach in justifying the acceptance of Western Society s obligation to the global poor. There exists a global order that proclaims its primary purpose is to facilitate cooperation between rich and poor nations. The presence of said order creates an uneven distribution of advantage among nations, an imbalance sometimes thought to be the result of an array of independent factors. Mathias Risse suggests the global order harms third world nations through Uncompensated Exclusion; where privileged countries are given several advantages over the worse off in regards to natural resources. Here the benefits of the impoverished are minimal. This defies the moral rule of Egalitarian Ownership, which describes all natural resources as belonging to all humankind. By denying the global poor an equal portion of natural resources during international commerce the order violates their people s human right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well being of oneself and one s family, including food, clothing, housing and ...
