A Study Of The Stonehenge
The study of the Stonehenge is one of the greatest impasses in human history. While astronomers and
surveyors think the Stonehenge is an observatory for the solar and lunar cycles, archaeologists insist
that it was primarily built for magic and rituals. Countless theories have been made about the
Stonehenge, but the truth is that the lack of archeological record at Stonehenge exacerbates any
convincing explanation about the site. (Ray) Depending on the culture of the interpreter, Stonehenge
can have different meanings based on preexisting beliefs. Historians of religion, as well as of
prehistoric experiences, venture that Stonehenge was a sanctuary for the worship of ancestors. This
view is based on the study of other megalithic religions, in which the stones represent the life and
death of their ancestors. The question remains of applying these theories into the unique prehistoric
context of Southern England. Indeed, understanding Stonehenge entails a comprehension of what it is
made of, how those rocks were transported and erected, what the purpose of the structure was and
what myths stem from it. Located in England, two miles west of Amesbury and eight miles north of
Salisbury, Stonehenge is composed a many different rocks. The main types of stones at Stonehenge
are bluestone and sarsen sandstone. The sarsen sandstone forms the outside wall of the circle, while
the vertical sarsen is connected to a horizontal sarsen, which is called sarsen lintel. Trilithons, made of

Future Plans and Opportunities
Within the next five years of the company, we are putting forth a plan to achieve a catering
department. We want to be able to provide the planning and set up of the events that we offer, as well
as the food for our clients. Our plan is to lease a kitchen facility big enough to house our staff and
store our products while working out of the kitchen. During this five year goal, we plan on opening a
second branch in the Chicago Illinois area, while having our branch in Erie, PA still running.
Industry Analysis
The events industry is an ever growing part of the hospitality world. There is a bigger need for the
attention to detail than most people will think about, and event planners are trained to think about
these issues. Event planners have to be able to handle budgets that the clients will set for them while
still maintaining a high quality of service. The events industry is an ever growing business. There is
always something new that people will want and request at their parties. There is a big need for tight
budgets within the economy as well as some weddings that will be very extravagant.
Future Trends
Once our catering department is added to our company, we will start to look at the trends that the food
industry is currently providing. These trends will include things such as healthier options for courses
as well as smaller portions. These small portions will control the amount of food a person is advised to
eat, but we

The Pros And Cons Of Hypertension
According to CDC (2016), one out of three American adults suffers from hypertension (HTN). This
accounts for about 75 million or 29% of the adult population in the United States. Uncontrolled HTN
is the leading cause of myocardial infarction, chronic kidney diseases (CKD), strokes, and
hypertensive heart diseases (HHD) (CDC, 2016). According to a report from CDC (2016), HTN costs
48.6 billion dollars including health care expenditures, medications and missed days of work.
According to the Texas Department of State Health Services (2013), among 26,448,196 residents of
Texas, 170.1 death rates related to HHD, 40.1 related to stroke and 15.9 related to CKD consecutively.
AHRQ (2013) health expenditure data demonstrates that the southern region of the United States,
which includes Texas, exceeded the average health expenditure for a hypertensive patient to a cost of
$805 per hypertensive person. Two recent peer review audits of twenty charts at Southmore Medical
Clinic revealed that we were practicing with only a 45% compliance rate with the Joint National
Committee (JNC) 8 guideline recommendations for managing HTN. In Southmore Clinic HTN
management protocol is based on JNC 6 guidelines and HTN parameters are more relaxed due to
patients noncompliance and the physician s laid back attitude. Therefore, the revision of existing
protocol and the aggressive management of HTN is recommended in conjunction with JNC 8
guidelines (see Appendix A for more details). Available

Life Is A Of Life
Life is something that requires a considerable amount of physical and mental effort. Some are
fortunate enough to have everything prepared for them. Such as some are born into money; some
come across good fortune yet most work hard from the start to get somewhere in the world. It just all
depends on how you were brought into this world. For some people, life is full of stress and hardships.
That s how life was for someone very dear to me Kimberly Domonique. She had it difficult from the
start however, she chose not to let life get her down. When life gave her lemons, she made lemonade.
Kimberly is from the island of Haiti, she moved to the states at the age of ten years old. She lived in
Queens, New York with her step ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She moved to New Jersey to get away from the violence and that s when she started high school.
When she got to high school at the age of fourteen years old, that is when she met other students of
Haitian descent. She thought she moved away from the discrimination but she actually ran head onto
it. In school the Haitians and the black Americans were separated voluntarily because of the same
issues that occurred in Queens. The difference was that there were more Haitians in New Jersey and
they stood together to defend each other. Meanwhile during the drama, she found her high school
sweetheart which became her husband of twenty five years. Throughout the years of their relationship
they went through several changes and hardships, they were blessed with three amazing kids who
reside in the USA today.
Life in Haiti was not a walk in the park for Kimberly. Now, school is extremely difficult and back then
the competition for scholarships was at an all time high. Not many people were wealthy. Most could
barely afford to pay for school and only a small amount was considered well off.
Placing monetary value on an individual s life is measured not by the way an individual has lived, but
rather the individual s income; at least that is how society views life. Every individual values life from
a different perspective. And while every human will find value in life, those values will not be the
same as everybody else. Some people will value life as a privilege and believe life

Utilization Rates of Pedestrian Bridges in Kuala Lumpur
Introduction
Traffic congestion and air pollution are becoming growing problems in many cities in Malaysia. In
order to discourage automobile dependency, and increase pedestrian activities particularly for short
trips, the government has begun to promote non motorized travel options by improving pedestrian
facilities that promote an assured level of convenience, comfort, and security for potential users. One
of the facilities that have been provided by the government is the pedestrian bridge.
A pedestrian bridge or footbridge is a bridge constructed for pedestrians and sometimes for cyclists
and bikers as well. It reduces the conflicts of traffic flow between the pedestrians and the vehicles by
separating them. Hence, it helps in overcoming accidents and offers safety.
However, due to the added travel distance, most of the pedestrians normally avoid using these bridges.
This in turn, adds to traffic congestion and accidents that involve pedestrians.
For the purposes of this research evaluation, the site selections are around the city of Kuala
Lumpur.¬¬
Background to the Study
Pedestrian bridges may offer safety and protection to the users but pedestrians often avoid using these
facilities. According to the survey that has been conducted by H. Rizati, Siti Zaharah Ishak, Intan
Rohani Endut (2013), this is due to several factors. They are the added travel distance, the location of
the facility, and the vehicle volume. Pedestrians prefer to utilize pedestrian

Symbolism In The Swimmer By John Cheever
By the time the alcohol touches the tongue, the storm has already begun. John Cheever s relationship
with alcohol presents itself throughout the short story The Swimmer , and uses the character, Ned
Merrill, to represent the struggles he was experiencing. Addiction and the need for alcohol drove this
character into a storm he couldn t retreat from. In The Swimmer Cheever uses a physical storm and
the changes in the weather to show the path of drinking and becoming an alcoholic. The short story
begins with joy and excitement, then turns into something casual and frequent, but eventually leads to
misfortune and a misery. Nobody desires to be led to an unpleasant storm, that comes with drinking
alcohol. Cheever uses nature and the storms to represent the life of an alcoholic.
Drinking may not seem to be so bad at first, but the consequences come later in the journey. John
Cheever begins this short story with an initial sign of casual drinking. Ned Merrill and his wife are
accompanied by friends who all say they drank too much last night as if they were all drinking
together (Cheever 726). Right from the beginning, Cheever gives readers the hint that characters from
this story drink a lot. He makes it a part of the social norm, so it seems to be something done on the
regular. Before Ned decides to begin a journey to swim the Lucinda River, he notices the weather.
Cheever directs the focus to the fact that it was a fine day. In the west there was a massive stand of
cumulus cloud so like a city seen from a distance , marking the beginning of the storm (726). Looking
into the West, a place of death and misfortune, are where fluffy and cotton like clouds are on display.
In literature, the West is often symbolic of death and dying since the sun sets over that horizon. A time
where leaves and plants die, and the start of darkness. Those clouds may look peaceful, but they
represent the beginning of a storm coming from the disastrous West.
Eventually, the fun and laughter turn into something normal and boring, and drinking more serves to
reanimate his social interactions. Unfortunately, those problems are only gone for a little while, and
Ned Merrill finds this out the hard way by continuing his journey. Each house

this time. There were no warm touches or cute giggles distracting her from all the waiting. All she was

other loud members in the dressing room, taking selcas of themselves, probably to be posted online.
Taeyeon resisted the urge to roll her eyes, not wanting to ruin her eye makeup. If Tiffany was here, she

Economic Policies And The Great Recession Of 2008
Demand side policies and the Great recession of 2008
Recession is a term that looms over any society at some point or another but what does recession
mean for the economy, in short it is an economic decline. This essay will examine the meaning of
recession and will discuss the fiscal and monetary policies that are used to pull economies out of
recessions. The great Recession of 2008 will shed light on how these policies were successful at
restoring economic growth and reducing unemployment.
The economic meaning of a recession is that the gross Domestic Product (GDP) has declined for two
or more consecutive quarters. Unemployment rises, housing falls, stocks fall and the economy is in
trouble. Whenever the government sees that the economy is entering a recession it is important for it
to act. The U.S acted in two ways during the Great recession of 2008 through fiscal and monetary
policies. Renaud Fillieule identifies that Monetary and credit expansions have been the main tools
used by the U.S. government and central bank to try and recover economically from the Great
Recession of 2008 (Fillieule r, Pg. 99 2016). These Keynesian policies are debatable among
economist, none the less they were implemented and put the U.S on the road to recovery.

Of Mice And Men Quotes About Lonliness
No one ever said lonliness is a great passtime, our whole is filled with it. We witness it almost
everyday and are, once in a while, affected by it, but never longer than we can bear. However, many
individuals during the Great Depression lived with this unbearable and inescapable lonliness, working
all day and not having anyone but themselves to care for them or to care for. Jhon Stienbeck, the
author of Of Mice and Men, demonstrates that too much lonliness can cause a person to live with the
unbearable pain of knowing that they only have themselves, shown with Candy, Crooks, and Curley s
wife Candy the old swamper showed how seniors were treated during the Great Depression, and how

During the great depression coloured people were highley discriminated. In the book Crooks said, S

loneliness by clearly stating he has nobody. Crooks is the stable buck on the ranch, and completes the
tasks that are too difficult for others to do. He is seen as inferior and is completley unwanted, which
leads to lonliness because no one wants to talk to him. He is never talked to, so he is aloof and lonely
and all he ever wishes for is someone to care for him or just be near him. Another part of the novella
Crooks shows lonliness is , long as you wont get out and leave me alone, you might as well set down.
this quote indicates that Crooks is aloof and unfriendly to white men but, enjoys everyones company.
That is because he is left all alone and never talked to, so he finds great pleassure in the smallest
interaction with others. Crooks tries to hide this but he cannot because he is lonely some times he can
not even bear it. Stienbeck demonstrate that when an individual is always alone, he will find pleasure

AMS Bowfishing Gator Kit
The alligator, even more than the alligator gar, represents the ultimate of big game bowfishing within
the confines of the United States. These large, sinister looking reptiles look exactly like what they are
the ancient, unchanged survivors of a world millions of years dead, still gliding through the muddy
waters of the American South after countless other species have perished. Quick moving when
necessary, dangerously aggressive on occasion especially when provoked heavily armored with thick,
knobby scales, and instantly recognizable, alligators are rapidly becoming a favorite target of sport
bowfishermen, who appreciate their unique challenge.
The AMS Bowfishing Gator Kit is designed to help you in handling these robust, vigorous reptiles
with your bowfishing bow and arrows. Since alligators are so strong and aggressive, not to mention
well protected by their squamose hides, special tools are needed to cope effectively with them it might
be possible to bowfish an alligator without this kit, but it will definitely make the task easier. ... Show

Abstract
An Adverse event is defined as any undesirable event that a patient experiences while taking a
medication. This includes many things, such as a motor vehicle collision or falling down the stairs. An
Adverse event is different from an Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR). An Adverse Drug Reaction, as
defined by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency, is a response to a medicinal
product that is noxious or unintended1. These adverse reactions may be an already known side effect
or a new side effect not previously recognized. ADRs are very burdensome to the patient s wellbeing,
they increase healthcare cost, and roughly half of the reactions may be preventable.
Introduction
The following case report discusses a Type B ADR to Celecoxib of a 54 year old female and the
events that led to the diagnosis and treatment. Celecoxib is a non steroidal anti inflammatory medicine
that inhibits the production of prostaglandins by inhibiting cyclooxygenase 2. This drug is indicated
for acute pain, primary dysmenorrhea, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid
arthritis.3 The patient had been prescribed a therapeutic dose of Celecoxib for osteoarthritis and was
tolerating the medicine up until the ADR. Although the diagnosis was discovered, there were
challenges that led to the delay in

Explanation Of The Bayeux Tapestry
The Bayeux Tapestry The Bayeux Tapestry (1070 80, Fig. 1) is, in fact, not a tapestry at all. It is a
piece of linen cloth embroidered with wool thread, that measures about 200 feet in length and three
feet in width. The cloth is embroidered with images, ranging from battle scenes (Fig. 2) to banquets
(Fig. 3) to Halley s Comet (Fig. 4). The colors are muted, including dark blue, yellow, rust red, grey,
and green. The proportions are unnatural and there seems to be no care given to liner perspective or
scale; instead, the work seems to focus on developing a cohesive narrative. The figures are flat and
expressionless, yet they have a sense of movement and purpose as they move from one scene to
another. The figures have a believable space, which is especially vivid in the battle scenes, as the
figures appear to fall over one another in a animated struggle. The transition from one scene to the
other is fluid and the story line is easy enough to follow. The tapestry is divided into three sections, the
top, middle and bottom. Each section appears to have its own independent, though complementary,
narrative. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Brace argues that despite low wages and hard labor they were not the cause of the upcoming
revolution in 1789. Brace argues that high prices of bread and scarcity of grain due to bad harvests
where the cause of the civil unrest. Subsistence for peasantry was largely dependent on bread. When
the bread ran and out and starvation became a problem the working class looked to the government for
relief. Brace goes in depth on the government s failure to fix its grain problem, regulate bread prices,
and feed it citizens. Bread is the staple food of the majority of France, without it revolution was
inevitable.

The Creation Of Discourses Throughout Media
The creation of discourses throughout media is presumably why most Americans feel the way they do
about certain migrants and their cultures. Discourses are the illusions created by actions within media
to create a certain bias. They are seen throughout all global media, not just immigration. However,
immigration is a hot topic in our society today. Transnationalists, migrants, and refugees are all terms
relative to the subject. Media today has changed these terms and coined phrases such as illegal aliens
and other explicit terms defining people. Our country was built on migrants coming here for a better
life, yet today, new migrants are considered illegal and taking Americans jobs. Chavez s excerpt
explains discourses several decades ago. Today, we face relative discourses throughout media,
especially with our current republican candidates for the next election. Mentioned in Chavez s,
Covering Immigration the Statue of Liberty plays a significant role in American views toward
immigration. From the 1970 s to 90 s, the Statue of Liberty is seen on thirteen separate magazine
covers. According to polls, 57% picked the statue as their favorite national icon. In the fall of 2015,
Time released a magazine covering of the Statue showing a dirty hand, relaying the message, Who
gets to be an American again? This image reflects discourses of a broken society, in which we have to
become an American again.
The underlying message here is that our national symbol of freedom

Speed Loss Lab Report
RECONSTRUCTION:
Pre Crash:
On 05 25 2015 at approximately 1940 hours, Vehicle 1 was westbound on County Road 672, east of
Dupree Road. The driver of Vehicle 1, for reasons unknown, drove off the north side of CR 672 and
onto a grassy shoulder. Vehicle 1 drove approximately 229 feet through the grass before he returned to
the roadway. In returning to the roadway, Driver 1 overcorrected his steering and continued in a
southwest direction across both lanes of CR 672, for approximately 76 feet, as Vehicle 1 rotated
slightly in a counterclockwise direction. As Vehicle 1 left the south road edge, Driver 1 again tried to
overcorrect and began to rotate in a clockwise direction, as he drove onto the grassy shoulder.

I used Limpert s analysis of a rotating vehicle for the distance of 76 feet. The result of this speed loss
was less than 1 mile per hour in the overall speed loss of Vehicle 1 and was not factored into the
overall speed loss for Vehicle 1.
After leaving the south side of the roadway, and driving onto a grass shoulder, Vehicle 1 began to
rotate in a clockwise direction, for a distance of approximately 45.16 feet. To determine the speed loss
over this distance, the percentage of braking of Vehicle 1 in relation to the rotation angle, must be
considered.
I utilized the coefficient of friction values based on skid testing conducted by the Institute of Police
Technology and Management, (IPTM). IPTM testing, indicates a coefficient of friction of .90 1.50 for
a vehicle furrowing.
For this speed analysis, I used Limpert s analysis of a rotating vehicle. I utilized the sine value of the
angle determined by the path of travel of Vehicle 1 versus the angle of approach at measured distances
during the rotation. In conjunction with the standard speed loss equation, the sine value is applied to
the coefficient of friction value. The result based on this analysis is a speed loss range of 22.85 mph to
29.50 miles per hour during

A Note On Crime Prevention
Crime Prevention
Businesses that use a cash drawer, can be particularly susceptible to employee theft. Cash is always a
higher temptation because it is easy to take and easy to hide and difficult for employers to trace. Still,
there are quite a few processes that can be put into place to dissuade employees from stealing and
from the business. A few options include:
1) Separate Cash Drawers At the beginning of every shift a counted cash drawer should be given to
each cashier. This provides a definitive starting amount for reference. Each cashier should be
responsible for their own individual drawer. Shared drawers will make it impossible to pinpoint which
employee might be the one stealing if a situation occurs.
2) Verifying Cash Drawer Counts Each cashier should count the cash in the drawer provided to them
at the beginning of the shift. After counting, the employee must sign the register tape to confirm that
the cash amount and the sales tape are in balance. This prevents discrepancies regarding the amount a
drawer had when the shift began.
3) Mid shift Readings At some point during each shift, without advanced notice, a manager should
take the current drawer and provide a new drawer to each cashier. A sales report should be run on the
used drawer to verify that it is in balance. This measure will prevent cashiers from storing stolen cash
in the drawer during their shift. A second drawer swap should periodically be conducted as well to
prevent predictability of the

A Golden Age
Student Name Professor Name Subject Date A Golden Age Less than 30 years after the war of
Independence, East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and West Pakistan (now Pakistan) had grown so
further apart, even from the obvious geographical disconnect, that the liberation war of 1971 could be
termed as inevitable. For some it was the war of liberation but for many who lost their friends,
neighbors and other loved ones, it was a time of selfish loss. Bengal s growing need for an identity,
equal and ethnic acceptance and a pride in their mother language eventually led to many conflicts both
emotional and political. Having been recently independent from British India, the Two Nation Theory
was engraved in everyone s minds. But the geographical division of East and West Pakistan was much
more than distance; it was felt as a conspiracy for West Pakistan to govern the entire country (Bose,
1).The war was considered an unnecessary act by some as autonomy was the desired result and not a
new country. However as the story of the lives of civilians unfold the distrust and unfairness of the
situation in the country is seen to be evident. Perhaps it was this feeling of unequal representation and
a desire for provincial autonomy that led to an ever present sense of estrangement. That time was
considered the golden age of Bengal and the characters are faced with that piece of history that
eventually helped change the map of the world. In addition to the linguistic, racial, temperamental,

Problem Statement Stereotype threat, or the fear of being judged through the lens of a negative
stereotype, has been shown to hurt one s performance (Spencer, Steele, Quinn, 1999; Steele, Spencer

This finding suggests that humor can be used to cope with threat, and students may view threat as a
challenge to simply overcome other that simply a threat. Stereotype threat has also been shown to
cause self handicapping, or internal factors that impair performance (Stone, 2012) as well as claimed
self handicapping, or external factors that impair performance (Keller, 2002), both of which could be
used intra personally or interpersonally. The previous studies show that coping mechanisms for
stereotype threat are vast, and those susceptible to threat should have access to resources on ways to
deal with some of underperformance effects of threat especially in academic settings.
Purpose The purpose of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of the Reducing Stereotype
Threat website, www.reducingstereotypethreat.org, which offers resources, coping mechanisms and
referrals for dealing with feelings of threat and its aftermath.
Specifically, the purpose of the current study is to:
1. Obtain general site feedback from students impacted by threat;
2. Obtain feedback on specific resources from the site, focusing on design, usability, and impact of
those resources. This website serves as, not just information and literature on the topic, but an online
resource portal for students and educators who are faced with this phenomenon directly (as students or

Symptoms Of Disorder, By John Warns
One of the most obvious, yet in the nineteenth century completely unrecognised and undiagnosed,
reasons behind symptoms of supposed insanity would be post natal depression. Gilmans narrator
suffers from just this as she exclaims: Such a dear baby! And yet I CANNOT be with him, it makes
me so nervous , conveying a certain disconnection with her son. The narrator feels her husband fails to
understand her perspective: she is the complete opposite of her public sphere husband who is practical
in the extreme... and he scoffs openly at any talk of things not to be felt and seen and put down in
figures . She yearns for a life which she believes this domestic role has stolen from her: Gilman s

The intersection of confinement and gender is shown in the passage where the narrator says and she is
all the time trying to crawl through. But nobody could climb through that pattern it strangles so; I
think that is why it has so many heads. , the narrator sometimes sees many, many women imprisoned
by the pattern. The pattern she sees on the wallpaper is a microcosm of society in which she, along
with all women, is supressed of any desires other than those seen as etiquette.
The narrator comes to an epic epiphany in TYW as she becomes empowered by confidence and self
belief, which she desperately lacks throughout the story. When she says I ve got out at last , it is
arguable that this sudden confidence was sprouted from her challenge with her self identity, leading
her to mental degradation. The mental degradation is ambiguous however; it could be argued that this
is only a stage of imaginative and possibly even physical freedom that the character is experiencing.
Without this effect of insanity the change in status between John and the narrator would not have been
possible because she would remain as subdued as she ever was. There is a similar revelation in ADH
with Nora seemingly breaking away from Torvald s restraints however, this time with a lack of mental
illness. Nora s realisation involves more of a conscious decision in the sense that her mind was not
obscured by any mental illness; she finally

The Baroque School Of French Organ
Introduction: Rarely in the documented history of music can we found a collection of compositions
more perfectly tied to an instrument, than that of the Baroque school of French organ composition.
Looking at the earliest examples of music from this period (which stem from even earlier vocal
polyphony), one will find forms and techniques indubitably connected to the organ. By the start of the
sixteenth century, the establishment of colloquial categories of organ composition, and independent
vocal forms, were finally acknowledged. For the following two centuries the technical progression of
the organ in conjunction with musical development, resulted in every stop on Baroque French organs
being given a standardised function. This function was almost always outlined at the beginning of a
score by the composer. Since medieval times French organ building has been well documented and
recorded. Later on, Marin Mersenne compiled a book that outlined music happenings in Paris,
Harmonie Universelle (1636), this book included French organ specifications and designs. Even from
the middle ages, French organs placed an emphasis on tone color. Early French organs had an array of
principals, mixtures and mutations, allowing for the creation of registrations such as Plein Jeu.
However, organs of this time (late 1500s) were restricted a lot by the available wind power (how fast
the boys in the basement could move the bellows!). Fortunately, as we come into the 1600s vast
strides were made in

The Leap
In James Dickey s poem The Leap, he tells about his memory of a thin/and muscular, wide mouthed,
eager to prove (21 22) girl, Jane MacNaughton. He talks about how she goes from being, the fastest
runner in the seventh grade , (3) to a Mother of four. (28) Jane who spurned the earth, as a seventh
grade runner, left behind the slow footed yokels (44) in her cloud of dust. The playground champion is
finally overcome by reality. She returns to dust as a victim of the eternal process .
During a school dance, Jane with a light/Grave Leap , touches the end of a paper ring. Dickey sees this

He does not go into detail to describe the second leap. This may be because he knows more about her
in her childhood, or it may be because he does not want to know about her death at length. When she
commits suicide, he knows she is not the same person that he once knew; she is now a, mother of four.
(28) She has changed, but it has not been for the better because she may have had a hard life. One day
she was unable to handle the pressures of her life any longer and committed suicide. He says, as he
holds the newspaper containing the article of her suicide, that I held / without trembling a picture of
her lying cradled / in the papery steel as though lying in the grass. (30 32) It is not that he does not
care about her death; he just cannot face her death and this is why he does not tremble. She is hardly
the same person to him, and so he is able to save the image of her first leap. He will always use this
one image as her identity, full and alive, to him.
These two leaps are different, but are used to represent the same idea. Jane leapt in order to express
her sense of freedom in the first leap. She leapt with strength; she showed to everyone around her that
she was very alive, free and capable. Yet, the second leap was a cry for help, a searching for freedom.
By taking this second leap she was able to become free by death. Her life was hard by, some boy who

Software Testing
Software Testing

Authors: Jiantao Pan mailto:%20jpan@cmu.edu Abstract:
Software testing is any activity aimed at evaluating an attribute or capability of a program or system
and determining that it meets its required results. [Hetzel88] Although crucial to software quality and
widely deployed by programmers and testers, software testing still remains an art, due to limited
understanding of the principles of software. The difficulty in software testing stems from the
complexity of software: we can not completely test a program with moderate complexity. Testing is
more than just debugging. The purpose of testing can be quality assurance, verification and ... Show
more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But this alone will not guarantee to make the software better, because the Complexity Barrier
[Beizer90] principle states: Software complexity(and therefore that of bugs) grows to the limits of our
ability to manage that complexity. By eliminating the (previous) easy bugs you allowed another
escalation of features and complexity, but his time you have subtler bugs to face, just to retain the
reliability you had before. Society seems to be unwilling to limit complexity because we all want that
extra bell, whistle, and feature interaction. Thus, our users always push us to the complexity barrier
and how close we can approach that barrier is largely determined by the strength of the techniques we
can wield against ever more complex and subtle bugs. [Beizer90]
Regardless of the limitations, testing is an integral part in software development. It is broadly
deployed in every phase in the software development cycle. Typically, more than 50% percent of the
development time is spent in testing. Testing is usually performed for the following purposes: * To
improve quality.
As computers and software are used in critical applications, the outcome of a bug can be severe. Bugs
can cause huge losses. Bugs in critical systems have caused airplane crashes, allowed space shuttle
missions to go awry, halted trading on the stock market, and worse. Bugs can kill. Bugs can

Aesthetics Should Never Take Precedence Over Function
From the early Greek temples of yesteryear, to the high tech autonomous buildings of tomorrow, the
question of whether the function of a building or its aesthetics qualities are more important has
plagued the minds of architects around the world. Webster s II New College Dictionary (Please do not

The branch of philosophy that provides a theory of the beautiful and of the fine arts (18). The

They were the pilotis, the roof garden, the free plan, the elongated window and the free façade. These
five topics were essentially very new ideas at the time and were regarded as the cutting edge in design
(Von Moos 70). Corbusier used all of these elements in his Villa Savoye located in Paris, France,
which was designed in the purist fashion. In order to incorporate the idea of purity into the structure,
the building is painted completely white, exaggerating the smooth flow of the planar walls and
ceilings. Corbusier s intent was for the building to stay clean and completely white, devoid of stains to
resemble purity of spirit (Palermo, 23 Feb 1999). While he sticks to this idea, the function and
practicality of the building is lost because of all the extra work that has to go into the building to keep
it pristinely white. Apart from Villa Savoye, there are other buildings in which Corbusier sacrificed
function for aesthetics. In the Salvation Army building in Paris he attempted to design a building with
it s own form of heat control system by using different layers and thickness of glass to regulate air
currents. Instead of keeping a constant 18 degree temperature on the interior, the buildings glass
panels worked like a greenhouse and kept hot air inside making the interior practically uninhabitable
(Leatherbarrow and Mostafavi 30).
But for as many Corbusier buildings that were not functional, there were just as many that

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as the Food Stamp program, was
established as a safety net against hunger and malnutrition for low income Americans and their
families. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance programs help millions of families, seniors, people with
disabilities, and low wage working Americans afford access to enough food. Food stamps was first
introduced to the American public as a pilot program during the Great Depression in the 1930s. Mabel
McFadden of Rochester, NY was the first food stamp recipient. She paid four dollars and received six
dollars worth of stamps in return.
An orange stamp could buy any food, while a blue stamp was good for only what the Department of
Agriculture deemed to be in surplus. That program lasted through the early 1940s. Food stamps were

The Prisoner s Dilemma is a mathematical game theory that refers to a game in which the payoff from
playing the dominant strategy is not the highest payoff possible and illustrates how self interest can
lead rational individuals and companies to pursue a course leading to mutual self destruction, even
when that destruction is foreseeable or in the case of companies certain decisions could have financial
impact for better or worse. It seems that the Prisoner s Dilemma impacts the many small decisions we
consider making. The dilemma provides the logical framework for many situations we face every day

Hezbollah has not done so yet . In the real prisoner s dilemma, the only possible equilibrium for the

Ethical Issues In Huck Finn
Throughout its history, Huck Finn has faced many controversies. It was shunned by many news outlets
at the time of its writing for its subject matter, being called trash by many publications. It was even
banned from some libraries for this reason. However, despite its flaws, Huck Finn proves to be an
entertaining novel that offers an interesting look into pre Civil war America, and should be freely
avaliable for all to read. Despite its inherent value as an examination of its time, many people had a
problem with the manner in which it was portrayed. One of these apparent issues was noted by a
censor of the Concord public library, who called into question the use of the dialect and grammatical
style of the book. To quote the New York Herald, who were reporting on the situation, Another
committeeman perused the volume with great care and discovered that it was couched in the language
of a rough, ignorant dialect and that all through its pages there is a systematic use of bad grammar and
an employment of inelegant expressions. These mannerisms, combined with other offenses, led to the
book garnering a trashy reputation in the eyes of the censors, who quickly banned it from their library.
however, to view these mannerisms as trashy and nothing more would be to misunderstand a large
portion of the novel s appeal. This novel is a period piece, set in the south before the onset of the Civil
War. In order to fully immerse the reader into this setting, Twain made sure to include all of the
different dialects that a person in that setting might hear. As the Athenaeum deftly explains, (The
characters are) schooled in half a dozen extraordinary dialects the Pike County dialect in all its forms,
the dialect of the Missouri negro, and the extremest form of the backwoods South Western dialect, to
wit. This makes the story and characters more entertaining, as it allows the reader to truly immerse
themselves into the narrative. However, some would argue that this immersion isn t entertaining in it s
own right. These people would say that, despite its the lengths it take to immerse you in its story, it s
generally coarse nature would drive off anyone who would try to endure it for more than five minutes.

What Are The Impact Of Detecting Range On The Throughput...
Several studies of routing protocol based on the physical and MAC layers have been done in the
literature. Jing Deng, et al. [1] and Kim et al. [2] argued that the carrier sensing range is a tunable
parameter that can significantly affect the MAC performance in multihop ad hoc networks. Mustapha,
et al. [3] investigated the impact of sensing range on the throughput of MANET by taking into
consideration two essential issues in MAC they are concurrent transmission, which is referred to
spatial reuse, and collision in terms of transmission range persistent probability and back off time.
Vaidya [4] investigated the impact of choosing an optimal carrier sense range by using an analytical
model as well as simulation results. Their results ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In their approach, a node identified as blackhole node is blacklisted and an ALARM packet is sent so
that the RREP packet originated from that malicious node is discarded and the routing table for that
node is not updated. However, this algorithm suffers from excessive overhead due to the update of the
threshold value at every time interval and the handling of special ALARM control packets. In [11],
Tamilselvan et al. proposed a solution for preventing blackhole attacks in MANETs based on AODV
protocol. In their solution, the source node waits till other replies with the next hop details. When the
source node receives the RREP packets, it records the sequence number along with the time the packet
arrived in a collect route reply table (CRRT). After recording the route replies in the CRRT, it
calculates the timeout value for each RREP based on the time first RREP arrived, then it checks the
CRRT for any repeated next hop nodes. The path with the repeated next hop node is considered to be
safe. If there is no repeated next hope node in the CRRT, the algorithm chooses a random path from
the CRRT. The main drawback of this solution is that if there are no repeated next hop nodes in the
CRRT, therefore the algorithm increases the risk of blackhole attack by choosing a random path. In
[12], Weerasinghe and Fu proposed a solution for prevention cooperative blackhole attacks in
MANETs. In their solution, each node maintains a table called Data Routing Information (DRI),
which

Exploring Different Types of Video Games Essay
Video games in today s society have become very popular. Every new game that comes out to be
played and conquered by the average gamer has its own category. There are several other types of
genres of games that people play but because of big hit titles and the new popular game systems like
the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, people become more interested in a game that is well known than a
game they have never even heard of before. Every game has its own storyline and own way of how it
unfolds and where the game ends according to game play. Some of the biggest reasons people sway to
certain genres of games is because of the game titles released under them and the demand of people
who want a good game under that category. The top three most ... Show more content on

Unlike action/adventure games, people don t have to run to a particular spot in the game to get that
special item they wanted, instead, they just simply unlock it when he or she has accomplished the
necessary requirements to get the item.
Action/Adventure categories of games are very unique. These types of games generally feature long
term obstacles that must be overcome using a tool or object that is acquired at the beginning of the
game. These types of games are generally a more item gathering, simple puzzle solving, and combat
game. Games such as Assassins Creed and Ratchet and Clank are perfect examples of this category of
games. Assassins Creed is a bit more puzzle solving and more stealth like than Ratchet and Clank
whereas Ratchet and Clank is more of an action pack filled game with more item gathering and small
obstacles along the way encountering combat in every turn that is made. Another famous
action/adventure game would be Super Mario. The perfect storyline of saving a princess and while
looking for her one would encounter different but strong enemies in each level he or she would go in;
along the way he or she would also benefit from picking up certain items and having to complete
certain obstacles to obtain that item that does later on become very handy when used it at the right
time. Role playing games play similar to action/adventure games but has a much more difficult way of
how the game is completed.

The Attitudes Of Aronnax And Captain Nemo
There are two characters in this story that have major attitudes, this is Aronnax and Captain Nemo.
They way they look at the world is very clear through out the chapters. Captain Nemo takes matters
into his own hands and is placed to explore the nature and conquer his own accomplishes. Nemo looks
at the world as if he can own it. Aronnax, on the other hand sees the world as amazing, a great master
piece.
I believe that Captain Nemo s outlook on the world and mankind is based off of hatred. I say this
because he believes that the world must be his even though he did not create it, he wants to destroy it
if he can not make it his own. Nemo is showed to be a private character, this makes it more hard for

Cuba s Current Gross National Income Per Person Of $ 5890...
Jason Lee
Captain Czak
History 300
21 October 2016
Cuba
Cuba s current gross national income per person of $5,890 (Talley), enormous debt, and other poor
economic conditions can be explained by events tracing back post World War II in 1945. The island of
Cuba was inhabited by different Mesoamerican cultures but introduced to European cultures in 1492
with the arrival of Christopher Columbus. Spain began to colonize Cuba among other Caribbean
islands in the 16th century and utilized the island as a stopping point before the New World. This all
changed when the collapse of Haiti initiated a sugar boom causing Cuba to emerge as a major world
sugar producer. Freedom from Spain was finally gained with the help of the United States after the
Spanish American War when the Treat of Paris was signed. About three years later, the Platt
Amendment was passed which provided the United States control and great influence in Cuba s
domestic and international affairs. The United States control was further strengthened after World War
II when Fulgencio Batista became President of Cuba in 1952. But this created many issues which
fueled the Cuban Revolution ending in 1959 when Fidel Castro overthrew Batista, propelling Cuba
into a new era of communism. The period of decolonization for Cuba after World War II sparked a
surge of nationalism which helped Fidel Castro dissolve American political, economic, and diplomatic
ties as well as establish a communist regime after the Cuban Revolution.

Assess The Role Of A Professional Learning Community In...
According to Hord, Roussin Sommers (2012), the PLC centers on quality teaching that results in
students successful learning, Quality teaching is strengthened and increased through continuous
professional learning, and the PLC setting promotes this adult learning. Understanding the purpose of
a PLC is foundational to its creation and support. In fact, According to DuFour, DuFour Eaker (2006)
PLC, is a group of educators who meet regularly, sharing knowledge and skills, and who work
collaboratively and harmoniously to improve teaching skills and the performance of students.
Additionally, Provini (2012) stated that a professional learning community represents the act of
transforming custom, law or pattern of behavior into institution that focus on constant improvement in
staff performance as well as student learning. Reichstetter (2006) offered the following comprehensive

Powerful Enlightened Depots
Enlightened despotism is defined as a form of government in the 18th century in which absolute
monarchs pursued legal, social, and educational reforms inspired by the Enlightenment (The Editors
of Encyclopaedia Britannica). The magnitude of the philosophy movement known as the
Enlightenment sent ripples throughout Western society. The philosophers believed that in order to
improve society they had to enlighten the monarchs. The views of the Enlightenment did to find their
way inside the palaces of Europe s leaders; however, the monarchs retained their great power of
absolute rule. Among these enlightened despots of the age were Frederick the Great of Prussia,
Catherine the Great of Russia, and Joseph II of Austria. These leaders all attempted to bring their
respective countries into a new age. The basis of enlightened despotism was the idea of improving the
lives of a country s citizens. This concept of leadership during this time was ultimately a good idea,
but it was not successfully exercised to its fullest extent. From a young age, Frederick the Great took a
great liking to culture and literature. He was especially infatuated with the language and lifestyle of
the French. The French philosopher Voltaire was a friend to Frederick and had a great influence on his
Enlightenment ideals. He initially hid his love of the Enlightenment during his reign, but later he
began to realize how the philosophies of the movement could actually advance and fortify his state.

  • 2. A Study Of The Stonehenge The study of the Stonehenge is one of the greatest impasses in human history. While astronomers and surveyors think the Stonehenge is an observatory for the solar and lunar cycles, archaeologists insist that it was primarily built for magic and rituals. Countless theories have been made about the Stonehenge, but the truth is that the lack of archeological record at Stonehenge exacerbates any convincing explanation about the site. (Ray) Depending on the culture of the interpreter, Stonehenge can have different meanings based on preexisting beliefs. Historians of religion, as well as of prehistoric experiences, venture that Stonehenge was a sanctuary for the worship of ancestors. This view is based on the study of other megalithic religions, in which the stones represent the life and death of their ancestors. The question remains of applying these theories into the unique prehistoric context of Southern England. Indeed, understanding Stonehenge entails a comprehension of what it is made of, how those rocks were transported and erected, what the purpose of the structure was and what myths stem from it. Located in England, two miles west of Amesbury and eight miles north of Salisbury, Stonehenge is composed a many different rocks. The main types of stones at Stonehenge are bluestone and sarsen sandstone. The sarsen sandstone forms the outside wall of the circle, while the vertical sarsen is connected to a horizontal sarsen, which is called sarsen lintel. Trilithons, made of ... We want to be able to provide the planning and set up of the events that we offer, as well as the food for our clients. Our plan is to lease a kitchen facility big enough to house our staff and store our products while working out of the kitchen. During this five year goal, we plan on opening a second branch in the Chicago Illinois area, while having our branch in Erie, PA still running. Industry Analysis The events industry is an ever growing part of the hospitality world. There is a bigger need for the attention to detail than most people will think about, and event planners are trained to think about these issues. Event planners have to be able to handle budgets that the clients will set for them while still maintaining a high quality of service. The events industry is an ever growing business. There is always something new that people will want and request at their parties. There is a big need for tight budgets within the economy as well as some weddings that will be very extravagant. Future Trends Once our catering department is added to our company, we will start to look at the trends that the food industry is currently providing. These trends will include things such as healthier options for courses as well as smaller portions. These small portions will control the amount of food a person is advised to eat, but we ... This accounts for about 75 million or 29% of the adult population in the United States. Uncontrolled HTN is the leading cause of myocardial infarction, chronic kidney diseases (CKD), strokes, and hypertensive heart diseases (HHD) (CDC, 2016). According to a report from CDC (2016), HTN costs 48.6 billion dollars including health care expenditures, medications and missed days of work. According to the Texas Department of State Health Services (2013), among 26,448,196 residents of Texas, 170.1 death rates related to HHD, 40.1 related to stroke and 15.9 related to CKD consecutively. AHRQ (2013) health expenditure data demonstrates that the southern region of the United States, which includes Texas, exceeded the average health expenditure for a hypertensive patient to a cost of $805 per hypertensive person. Two recent peer review audits of twenty charts at Southmore Medical Clinic revealed that we were practicing with only a 45% compliance rate with the Joint National Committee (JNC) 8 guideline recommendations for managing HTN. In Southmore Clinic HTN management protocol is based on JNC 6 guidelines and HTN parameters are more relaxed due to patients noncompliance and the physician s laid back attitude. Therefore, the revision of existing protocol and the aggressive management of HTN is recommended in conjunction with JNC 8 guidelines (see Appendix A for more details). Available ... • 6. Utilization Rates of Pedestrian Bridges in Kuala Lumpur Introduction Traffic congestion and air pollution are becoming growing problems in many cities in Malaysia. In order to discourage automobile dependency, and increase pedestrian activities particularly for short trips, the government has begun to promote non motorized travel options by improving pedestrian facilities that promote an assured level of convenience, comfort, and security for potential users. One of the facilities that have been provided by the government is the pedestrian bridge. A pedestrian bridge or footbridge is a bridge constructed for pedestrians and sometimes for cyclists and bikers as well. It reduces the conflicts of traffic flow between the pedestrians and the vehicles by separating them. Hence, it helps in overcoming accidents and offers safety. However, due to the added travel distance, most of the pedestrians normally avoid using these bridges. This in turn, adds to traffic congestion and accidents that involve pedestrians. For the purposes of this research evaluation, the site selections are around the city of Kuala Lumpur.¬¬ Background to the Study Pedestrian bridges may offer safety and protection to the users but pedestrians often avoid using these facilities. • 7. Symbolism In The Swimmer By John Cheever By the time the alcohol touches the tongue, the storm has already begun. John Cheever s relationship with alcohol presents itself throughout the short story The Swimmer , and uses the character, Ned Merrill, to represent the struggles he was experiencing. Addiction and the need for alcohol drove this character into a storm he couldn t retreat from. In The Swimmer Cheever uses a physical storm and the changes in the weather to show the path of drinking and becoming an alcoholic. The short story begins with joy and excitement, then turns into something casual and frequent, but eventually leads to misfortune and a misery. Nobody desires to be led to an unpleasant storm, that comes with drinking alcohol. Cheever uses nature and the storms to represent the life of an alcoholic. Drinking may not seem to be so bad at first, but the consequences come later in the journey. John Cheever begins this short story with an initial sign of casual drinking. Ned Merrill and his wife are accompanied by friends who all say they drank too much last night as if they were all drinking together (Cheever 726). Right from the beginning, Cheever gives readers the hint that characters from this story drink a lot. He makes it a part of the social norm, so it seems to be something done on the regular. Before Ned decides to begin a journey to swim the Lucinda River, he notices the weather. Cheever directs the focus to the fact that it was a fine day. In the west there was a massive stand of cumulus cloud so like a city seen from a distance , marking the beginning of the storm (726). Looking into the West, a place of death and misfortune, are where fluffy and cotton like clouds are on display. In literature, the West is often symbolic of death and dying since the sun sets over that horizon. A time where leaves and plants die, and the start of darkness. Those clouds may look peaceful, but they represent the beginning of a storm coming from the disastrous West. Eventually, the fun and laughter turn into something normal and boring, and drinking more serves to reanimate his social interactions. Unfortunately, those problems are only gone for a little while, and Ned Merrill finds this out the hard way by continuing his journey. Each house ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a piece of linen cloth embroidered with wool thread, that measures about 200 feet in length and three feet in width. The cloth is embroidered with images, ranging from battle scenes (Fig. 2) to banquets (Fig. 3) to Halley s Comet (Fig. 4). The colors are muted, including dark blue, yellow, rust red, grey, and green. The proportions are unnatural and there seems to be no care given to liner perspective or scale; instead, the work seems to focus on developing a cohesive narrative. The figures are flat and expressionless, yet they have a sense of movement and purpose as they move from one scene to another. The figures have a believable space, which is especially vivid in the battle scenes, as the figures appear to fall over one another in a animated struggle. Discourses are the illusions created by actions within media to create a certain bias. They are seen throughout all global media, not just immigration. Cash is always a higher temptation because it is easy to take and easy to hide and difficult for employers to trace. Still, there are quite a few processes that can be put into place to dissuade employees from stealing and from the business. A few options include: 1) Separate Cash Drawers At the beginning of every shift a counted cash drawer should be given to each cashier. This provides a definitive starting amount for reference. Each cashier should be responsible for their own individual drawer. Shared drawers will make it impossible to pinpoint which employee might be the one stealing if a situation occurs. 2) Verifying Cash Drawer Counts Each cashier should count the cash in the drawer provided to them at the beginning of the shift. After counting, the employee must sign the register tape to confirm that the cash amount and the sales tape are in balance. This prevents discrepancies regarding the amount a drawer had when the shift began. 3) Mid shift Readings At some point during each shift, without advanced notice, a manager should take the current drawer and provide a new drawer to each cashier. A sales report should be run on the used drawer to verify that it is in balance. This measure will prevent cashiers from storing stolen cash in the drawer during their shift. Bengal s growing need for an identity, equal and ethnic acceptance and a pride in their mother language eventually led to many conflicts both emotional and political. Having been recently independent from British India, the Two Nation Theory was engraved in everyone s minds. But the geographical division of East and West Pakistan was much more than distance; it was felt as a conspiracy for West Pakistan to govern the entire country (Bose, 1).The war was considered an unnecessary act by some as autonomy was the desired result and not a new country. However as the story of the lives of civilians unfold the distrust and unfairness of the situation in the country is seen to be evident. Stereotype threat has also been shown to cause self handicapping, or internal factors that impair performance (Stone, 2012) as well as claimed self handicapping, or external factors that impair performance (Keller, 2002), both of which could be used intra personally or interpersonally. The previous studies show that coping mechanisms for stereotype threat are vast, and those susceptible to threat should have access to resources on ways to deal with some of underperformance effects of threat especially in academic settings. Purpose The purpose of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of the Reducing Stereotype Threat website, www.reducingstereotypethreat.org, which offers resources, coping mechanisms and referrals for dealing with feelings of threat and its aftermath. Specifically, the purpose of the current study is to: 1. Obtain general site feedback from students impacted by threat; 2. Obtain feedback on specific resources from the site, focusing on design, usability, and impact of those resources. Symptoms Of Disorder, By John Warns One of the most obvious, yet in the nineteenth century completely unrecognised and undiagnosed, reasons behind symptoms of supposed insanity would be post natal depression. Gilmans narrator suffers from just this as she exclaims: Such a dear baby! And yet I CANNOT be with him, it makes me so nervous , conveying a certain disconnection with her son. The narrator feels her husband fails to understand her perspective: she is the complete opposite of her public sphere husband who is practical in the extreme... and he scoffs openly at any talk of things not to be felt and seen and put down in figures . The intersection of confinement and gender is shown in the passage where the narrator says and she is all the time trying to crawl through. But nobody could climb through that pattern it strangles so; I think that is why it has so many heads. , the narrator sometimes sees many, many women imprisoned by the pattern. The pattern she sees on the wallpaper is a microcosm of society in which she, along with all women, is supressed of any desires other than those seen as etiquette. The narrator comes to an epic epiphany in TYW as she becomes empowered by confidence and self belief, which she desperately lacks throughout the story. When she says I ve got out at last , it is arguable that this sudden confidence was sprouted from her challenge with her self identity, leading her to mental degradation. The mental degradation is ambiguous however; it could be argued that this is only a stage of imaginative and possibly even physical freedom that the character is experiencing. Without this effect of insanity the change in status between John and the narrator would not have been possible because she would remain as subdued as she ever was. There is a similar revelation in ADH with Nora seemingly breaking away from Torvald s restraints however, this time with a lack of mental illness. Nora s realisation involves more of a conscious decision in the sense that her mind was not obscured by any mental illness; she finally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. The Baroque School Of French Organ Introduction: Rarely in the documented history of music can we found a collection of compositions more perfectly tied to an instrument, than that of the Baroque school of French organ composition. Looking at the earliest examples of music from this period (which stem from even earlier vocal polyphony), one will find forms and techniques indubitably connected to the organ. By the start of the sixteenth century, the establishment of colloquial categories of organ composition, and independent vocal forms, were finally acknowledged. For the following two centuries the technical progression of the organ in conjunction with musical development, resulted in every stop on Baroque French organs being given a standardised function. This function was almost always outlined at the beginning of a score by the composer. Since medieval times French organ building has been well documented and recorded. Later on, Marin Mersenne compiled a book that outlined music happenings in Paris, Harmonie Universelle (1636), this book included French organ specifications and designs. Even from the middle ages, French organs placed an emphasis on tone color. Early French organs had an array of principals, mixtures and mutations, allowing for the creation of registrations such as Plein Jeu. However, organs of this time (late 1500s) were restricted a lot by the available wind power (how fast the boys in the basement could move the bellows!). [Hetzel88] Although crucial to software quality and widely deployed by programmers and testers, software testing still remains an art, due to limited understanding of the principles of software. The difficulty in software testing stems from the complexity of software: we can not completely test a program with moderate complexity. Testing is more than just debugging. The purpose of testing can be quality assurance, verification and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But this alone will not guarantee to make the software better, because the Complexity Barrier [Beizer90] principle states: Software complexity(and therefore that of bugs) grows to the limits of our ability to manage that complexity. By eliminating the (previous) easy bugs you allowed another escalation of features and complexity, but his time you have subtler bugs to face, just to retain the reliability you had before. Society seems to be unwilling to limit complexity because we all want that extra bell, whistle, and feature interaction. Thus, our users always push us to the complexity barrier and how close we can approach that barrier is largely determined by the strength of the techniques we can wield against ever more complex and subtle bugs. [Beizer90] Regardless of the limitations, testing is an integral part in software development. It is broadly deployed in every phase in the software development cycle. Typically, more than 50% percent of the development time is spent in testing. Testing is usually performed for the following purposes: * To improve quality. As computers and software are used in critical applications, the outcome of a bug can be severe. Bugs can cause huge losses. Aesthetics Should Never Take Precedence Over Function Essay Aesthetics Should Never Take Precedence Over Function From the early Greek temples of yesteryear, to the high tech autonomous buildings of tomorrow, the question of whether the function of a building or its aesthetics qualities are more important has plagued the minds of architects around the world. Webster s II New College Dictionary (Please do not use the encyclopedia or the dictionary to open your essay way too high school.) defines aesthetics as The branch of philosophy that provides a theory of the beautiful and of the fine arts (18). These five topics were essentially very new ideas at the time and were regarded as the cutting edge in design (Von Moos 70). Corbusier used all of these elements in his Villa Savoye located in Paris, France, which was designed in the purist fashion. In order to incorporate the idea of purity into the structure, the building is painted completely white, exaggerating the smooth flow of the planar walls and ceilings. Corbusier s intent was for the building to stay clean and completely white, devoid of stains to resemble purity of spirit (Palermo, 23 Feb 1999). While he sticks to this idea, the function and practicality of the building is lost because of all the extra work that has to go into the building to keep it pristinely white. Apart from Villa Savoye, there are other buildings in which Corbusier sacrificed function for aesthetics. In the Salvation Army building in Paris he attempted to design a building with it s own form of heat control system by using different layers and thickness of glass to regulate air currents. Instead of keeping a constant 18 degree temperature on the interior, the buildings glass panels worked like a greenhouse and kept hot air inside making the interior practically uninhabitable (Leatherbarrow and Mostafavi 30). Food Stamp Program Thesis The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as the Food Stamp program, was established as a safety net against hunger and malnutrition for low income Americans and their families. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance programs help millions of families, seniors, people with disabilities, and low wage working Americans afford access to enough food. Food stamps was first introduced to the American public as a pilot program during the Great Depression in the 1930s. Mabel McFadden of Rochester, NY was the first food stamp recipient. She paid four dollars and received six dollars worth of stamps in return. An orange stamp could buy any food, while a blue stamp was good for only what the Department of Agriculture deemed to be in surplus. That program lasted through the early 1940s. • 40. Ethical Issues In Huck Finn Throughout its history, Huck Finn has faced many controversies. It was shunned by many news outlets at the time of its writing for its subject matter, being called trash by many publications. It was even banned from some libraries for this reason. However, despite its flaws, Huck Finn proves to be an entertaining novel that offers an interesting look into pre Civil war America, and should be freely avaliable for all to read. Despite its inherent value as an examination of its time, many people had a problem with the manner in which it was portrayed. One of these apparent issues was noted by a censor of the Concord public library, who called into question the use of the dialect and grammatical style of the book. To quote the New York Herald, who were reporting on the situation, Another committeeman perused the volume with great care and discovered that it was couched in the language of a rough, ignorant dialect and that all through its pages there is a systematic use of bad grammar and an employment of inelegant expressions. These mannerisms, combined with other offenses, led to the book garnering a trashy reputation in the eyes of the censors, who quickly banned it from their library. however, to view these mannerisms as trashy and nothing more would be to misunderstand a large portion of the novel s appeal. This novel is a period piece, set in the south before the onset of the Civil War. In order to fully immerse the reader into this setting, Twain made sure to include all of the different dialects that a person in that setting might hear. As the Athenaeum deftly explains, (The characters are) schooled in half a dozen extraordinary dialects the Pike County dialect in all its forms, the dialect of the Missouri negro, and the extremest form of the backwoods South Western dialect, to wit. In their approach, a node identified as blackhole node is blacklisted and an ALARM packet is sent so that the RREP packet originated from that malicious node is discarded and the routing table for that node is not updated. However, this algorithm suffers from excessive overhead due to the update of the threshold value at every time interval and the handling of special ALARM control packets. In [11], Tamilselvan et al. proposed a solution for preventing blackhole attacks in MANETs based on AODV protocol. In their solution, the source node waits till other replies with the next hop details. When the source node receives the RREP packets, it records the sequence number along with the time the packet arrived in a collect route reply table (CRRT). After recording the route replies in the CRRT, it calculates the timeout value for each RREP based on the time first RREP arrived, then it checks the CRRT for any repeated next hop nodes. The path with the repeated next hop node is considered to be safe. If there is no repeated next hope node in the CRRT, the algorithm chooses a random path from the CRRT. The main drawback of this solution is that if there are no repeated next hop nodes in the CRRT, therefore the algorithm increases the risk of blackhole attack by choosing a random path. In [12], Weerasinghe and Fu proposed a solution for prevention cooperative blackhole attacks in MANETs. In their solution, each node maintains a table called Data Routing Information (DRI), which ... Jason Lee Captain Czak History 300 21 October 2016 Cuba Cuba s current gross national income per person of $5,890 (Talley), enormous debt, and other poor economic conditions can be explained by events tracing back post World War II in 1945. The island of Cuba was inhabited by different Mesoamerican cultures but introduced to European cultures in 1492 with the arrival of Christopher Columbus. Spain began to colonize Cuba among other Caribbean islands in the 16th century and utilized the island as a stopping point before the New World. This all changed when the collapse of Haiti initiated a sugar boom causing Cuba to emerge as a major world sugar producer. Freedom from Spain was finally gained with the help of the United States after the Spanish American War when the Treat of Paris was signed. About three years later, the Platt Amendment was passed which provided the United States control and great influence in Cuba s domestic and international affairs. The United States control was further strengthened after World War II when Fulgencio Batista became President of Cuba in 1952. But this created many issues which fueled the Cuban Revolution ending in 1959 when Fidel Castro overthrew Batista, propelling Cuba into a new era of communism.
