Literature Review On Gout
LITERATURE REVIEW
The imbalance of trace elements was shown is involved in many disorders, such as Gout. Sixty four
elements were measured in the serum samples of Gout patients with in three regionally and healthy
control group by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP MS). An elemental profile of
Gout notably altered Al, Li, Ti, Se, Fe, Cu, Sr, Ta, Hg, U, Th, and Bi. An independent group of 39 gout
patients and 13 healthy controls was further used to confirm the elemental analysis, yielding a
sensitivity of 1.00 and a specificity of 1.00 for Gout forecast. A good link was also observed between
Li, Zn, and Cu and further two risk aspects, age and serum urate concentration, in Gout patients.
Therefore it was accomplished that gout has a distinctive elemental profile despite of many other
nutritional and environmental factors [1]. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In recent decades, studies have shown that the development of Hyperuriemia and Gout is due to effect
of lead on the tubular urate transport causing diminished urate excretion. In the case of lead
intoxication these effects were mostly linked with renal failure. The clinical features of saturnine gout
were basically same as that of primary gout; though, acute attacks were likely to occur in the knee
more recurrently. The analysis of saturnine Gout was based on the history of exposure to lead, lead
toxicity, high serum lead levels and various other abnormalities. The treatment of Gout consists of
eliminating the further exposure to lead from the patient, to utilize chelating agents for removal of
lead, and management of acute Gouty Arthritis and Hyperuricaemia

Donating blood
The Ultimate Gift
Imagine that one day you were driving to the mall and out of nowhere, someone run through a red
light and crashed straight in to you. You end up in the hospital, needing a blood transfusion. The scene
is all too real and it happens every day. In a single car accident, a person could need up to 100 pints of
blood. The average person can donate 3 pints every 56 days (redcrossblood.org). This is why, today, I
urge you to go out and donate blood. I know some of you may hate the thought of needles or think that
giving blood won t really help. But, please consider what I say and make a better informed decision
after hearing the benefits of donating blood. People like you made a conscious decision to donate
blood and it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A blood technician will clean your skin around the veins in your arm and then insert a needle to
extract the blood. The actual extraction of the much needed blood only takes between 15 and 20
minutes and then you may go home or back to class knowing that you just saved up to 3 lives
(Children s hospital pamphlet). Theoretically, there is no reason why hospitals should not have enough
safe blood for their patients. I read from the Children s Hospital 2011 pamphlet, that if just 10% of all
possible donors give blood once a year, we will NEVER have a blood shortage problem. Also, patients
can eliminate their apprehensions about receiving blood if only clean blood donors are donating.
There are numerous benefits of giving blood. Soon after giving blood, you will receive a plastic card
with your blood type on it with the phrase, Congratulations, you have just saved up to three lives!
Also, you get to enjoy your favorite cookies, crackers, and beverages while you donate. Some of you
still many have questions about giving blood. Are you thinking, I would love to donate blood, but
doesn t it hurt really bad? Are you thinking, I m sure I have my blood for a reason, I m not so sure I
want to just give it away to a stranger when I need it to survive. You cannot hurt yourself by giving
blood. According to a 2012 article, Blood Giving in the Weekly Reader authored by Rachel Reyna,

Ethical Issues In Healthsouth
HealthSouth is mentioned in this week s chapter regarding companies that have suffered due to ethical
and fraudulent behaviors. In the early 2000 s, HealthSouth was under investigation by the SEC for
overstating earnings by 2.5 billion dollars. Simply stated, the CEO, Richard Scrushy, and his
leadership team were cooking the books. Fortunately for HeatlhSouth, Jay Grinney succeeded Scrushy
and the company has rebounded better than before, seeing growth across the country and showing
increased stock prices (Macfadyen. 2015).
To recover from this gross negligence and to be able to move forward in a highly regulated health care
industry required the top executives to develop a robust ethics and compliance program to prevent
further unethical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The plan was developed using a comprehensive analysis of the industry risks and HealthSouth s
historical data. The areas listed on the plan were deemed high priority based on vulnerabilities,
regulatory scrutiny, industry trends, and risk assessment results and are monitored and audited
regularly. This document is designed to be dynamic and change organically as issues are identified.
HealthSouth expects the Compliance Work Plan to be implemented and embraced by all stakeholders
in order to ensure success. As they have for years now, the findings are published on the HealthSouth
intranet site for employees to view.
Fortunately, our top executives and board of directors have set a good example and upheld the
business standards and values of the company. Remaining true to our mission to provide high quality
health care in the communities we serve, and maintaining our values of quality, integrity, cost
effectiveness, and respect has led HealthSouth favorably past the scandal of the early 2000 s. The
expectation is to remain true to our principles despite internal or external pressures, and to eliminate
short cuts and special

Cannibal Tours
Cannibal Tours
In Cannibalizing, Commodifying , or Creating Culture? Power and Art in Sepik River Tourism,
Silverman makes several critiques of O Rourke s Cannibal Tours. Silverman argues that O Rourke
constructed a limited view of the New Guinea tribes. Silverman attributes the eroding authenticity to
the tourists pursuit for entertainment in exchange for money. For instance, O Rourke s interviews
mostly covered reactions from tourists and how they gawked over the natives, arrogantly depicting
their primitive lives. Silverman argues that the film portrays tourism as a process that only
disempowers local people and erodes from their lives all genuine, meaningful dimensions of their
culture (Silverman 1996). Tourism is much more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anthropologists and filmmakers differ greatly from the tourists in this situation. The filmmaker is sort
of the in between of the tourists and anthropologist. For example, O Rourke himself is not portrayed in
the same manner that the other tourist are, but in the eyes of the local people, he is as much of a tourist
as anyone for the simple fact that he is white. However O Rourke differs from the tourists because he
is on their land with a goal in mind of creating a film. Lastly, the anthropologists are different from the
latter because they go to primitive cultures with a broader view to understand cross cultural
perspective. Meaning, that they have the job of studying and understanding one culture, but it is
equally as important to compare those finding with customs of another

A Textbook Example Of What s Wrong Summary
Paulo Freire starts out referring to the Fundamentally narrative character (Freire 1) of education.
Loewen starts introduction with high school students hate history (Loewen, 1). At first blush, one
wouldn t think the two had much in common. Perhaps, they don t have that much in common, but they
do have a common complaint. They both have a dislike for what Freire calls the Banking method of
education. Freire defines it as the teacher s task to fill the students with the contents of his narration
(Freire, 2). Freire might have been a wild eyed radical, but he was more or less on point with his
narration complaint. Loewen similarly has issues with the manner in which History is taught, in
particular, he takes great pains to describe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are, literally, volumes written just about the politics of textbooks. The true depth of the chaos is
too much to go into here. Loewen only scratches the surface when he describes the boondoggle that is
the school textbook in his introduction. In an article titled A Textbook Example of What s Wrong with
Education, Tamim Ansary takes it a step further. He describes in detail what Loewen only lightly
touched on. It s real inside baseball type stuff, or probably more accurately described as how the
sausage is made. He describes the biggest issue as ensuring that the books are necessarily bland to
ensure that they will offend no one on the left or right. There are activists groups on both sides of the
political spectrum that do little more than dig through proposed textbooks looking for things to find
objectionable (Ansary). Of course, one mustn t forget the fact that money is always a factor. Texas, a
big fish where textbooks are concerned, spends approx. $42 billion on public schools and there is a
specific amount allocated in adoption years for just textbooks (Ansary). Too much truth can get in the
way of business. It s not about the most accurate or the most interesting textbooks, but rather about
being as inoffensive as possible to the most people. With a model like that, there isn t any real chance
that textbooks will improve any time

Tyler Durden s Loss Of Aggression In Fight Club
The movie Fight Club was based on the story of a man, played by Edward Norton, that had
unmanaged aggression. He met Tyler Durden, played by Brad Pitt, who was a different version of
himself resulting from not releasing aggression. The result of not releasing aggression in a healthy
way started symptoms, including insomnia and getting away from the self, the need for self
destruction, and the need for physical release of aggression. These affect the relationship with one s
self, romantic relationships, and social relationships. The narrator leads a very mundane, materialistic
life. Without releasing aggression, he started feeling the effects of sleep deprivation, depression, and
begins slowly losing his perception of reality. At the beginning of the movie he began to lose track of
the day of the week and was careless at his job. He went to his doctor to try to get medication to help
him deal with insomnia. Unsuccessful, he joined every kind of terminal illness support group to gain
empathy and help him cry; he realized this is the only way to get himself to sleep. He said, When ...

Sweatshops, Violation Of Human Rights, And Labor
The multinational corporation known as Nike Inc. has had some challenges facing ethical issues
concerning sweatshops, violations of human rights, and labor abuses forever changing history and
propelling the anti sweatshop movements. The shoe company, now recognized as Nike was founded in
1964 by CEO, and cofounder Philip Knight. During this time Philip and his co founder Bill
Bowerman were distributing the athletic shoes through the Onitsuka Company. While working with
the Japanese manufacturer Nike was originally known as Blue Ribbon Sports until 1971 when the
famous swoosh trademark was beginning to be used and they were slowly veering away from working
it Onitsuka. The company originated in Portland, Oregon and opened its first store in Santa Monica,
California after being in business for two years.
Nike soon realized that the two manufacturing facilities they owned in the United States were not
obtaining enough profit and had to shut them down. This caused the company to lose 10 million in
1977 and they only saw a profit of 5 million that year. Today most of Nike s factories are in Asia,

Rebalancing In China Essay
Conflicting views
Under the Obama administration, the term rebalancing has been stated when it comes to the
relationships in the South China Sea. The point of rebalancing has come up when speaking about the
confrontation in the South China Sea. The idea is that the United States wants to restore the original
agreement by UNCLOS in order to give its allies a fair piece of the South China Sea and its resources.
China views this not as rebalancing, but as suppression. China has stated that the United States just
wanted to subdue China in the South China Sea and stop it development so it cannot compete. This
along with other factors has created greater tension between these two powerful nations.
In terms of the military, both of these nation boast the as one of the strongest militaries in the world,
but fir different reasons. China has one of the world s largest military s in sheer numbers, mainly
based on the ground. With the current confrontation and placement of the nine dash line, China is
quickly building its navy capable of moving around the world. All though they have the numbers
china does not have the extensive reach that the United States has. China cannot move troops as far
and as quickly. In addition china lacks the relationships with nation to build military bases around the
world. What china does have are technological advances. For example the ASB missile that posses a
great threat to US carrier groups. With the current and continuing growth of its military

Literary Devices In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
The author uses many literary devices in The Epic of Gilgamesh in order to describe the character of
Humbaba, the one who guards the cedar forest, because he wants the reader to be just as fearful of the
character as Enkidu, who is the speaker of lines 155 158 in the text. The character s fear of the ugly
beast is ironic because when Enkidu dies Gilgamesh too becomes afraid to die. Another reason I chose
this short passage is that the author uses imagery and foreshadowing to hint to the reader what
happens later on in the epic and I believe it is essential to the poem. The author also uses repetition in
order to stress the idea that Humbaba is not to be tormented. Enkidu warns Gilgamesh not to go near
the forest of cedars to kill Humbaba, but Gilgamesh laughs at him and asks Enkidu why he is afraid to
die all of the sudden. The paragraph I chose also prepares the reader for unforeseen events that occur
later on in the epic poem, including Enkidu s death.
Enkidu is weary of Gilgamesh s plan and is not in agreeance to join him initially. He questions
Gilgamesh s idea about the quest to kill Humbaba. Enkidu says, How shall the likes of us go to the
forest of cedars, my friend (line 155). Enkidu is not confident in his abilities to conquer Humbaba.
The author includes this line to symbolize Enkidu becoming more civilized. Enkidu shows fear for
someone he used to live amongst in the forest, and he is starting to realize that nature is something to
be feared. Gilgamesh

Canon Essay
Good morning fellow English enthusiasts. I would firstly like to thank you the opportunity talk to you
about the importance and the value of the canon in our school systems. The literary canon is a
controversial topic between english scholars and it has been debated as to whether or not it is
important to continue teaching the canon to students. The canon is quintessential to the school
program and will forever be the what makes Literature special. The canon is the be all end all of
english texts, in its most simple form the canon is a list of texts which is considered to be the best
works of Literature in human history. However each person s opinion on what constitutes a literary
text can differ from one person to another. For me ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The selection for canonical texts is still controversial as there are many criteria required for selection
into the canon such as use of language, imagery, it must stand the test of time, and reflects on the
social views at the time the text was written. Literature and the canon is still important. What do we
lose when we don t teach students about it? This is the question which I will answer for you here
today.
A range of educators including Emily Chiariello have debated that Literature is a waste of time and
should not be taught, because of the difference between the language now and the language that was
used when the texts were written this is what she means when they ask Is the instructional time spent
struggling to understand classics archaic language worth it? Does this lead to teachers reading for
students? in her article titled A Classic Debate . When she says this she ignores how the difference in
language can highlight messages in the novel, as Literature is art. When Edgar Allen Poe wrote his
poems there was a beauty to his words and the way sentences were formed, this only added to the
deep meaning in his poems such as one quote from his poem The Premature Burial The boundaries
which divide Life from Death are at best shadowy and

therapy is important. Antidepressants are giving for long term therapy and take a few weeks to start
working, so that is when the benzodiazepines come in. They act quickly and are given to give rapid
relief to symptoms during a panic

Why I Want To Study Chemical Engineering
Society needs engineers that can and will change the world. I want to study Chemical Engineering
because of its increasingly significant role in our society, particularly across a variety of industries
from petrochemicals to environmental technology. Chemical engineering is a branch of engineering
that applies physical sciences (physics and chemistry), life sciences (microbiology and biochemistry),
together with applied mathematics and economics to produce, transform, transport, and properly use
chemicals, materials and energy. It is about making processes and facilities function more efficiently.
In the first paragraph I will be talking about the founder of Chemical Engineering and how it started.
In the second paragraph I will be talking about how to be a chemical engineer. In the third paragraph I
will be talking about the history of chemical engineering and I will finish everything off in the last
paragraph.
The founding father of chemical engineering is George E. Davis. He was born in July 27, 1850 in
Eton, United Kingdom and died in 1960 in Birmingham, United Kingdom. He was the oldest son in
his family. Davis studied at the Slough Mechanics Institute while working at the local gas works, and
then spent a year studying at the Royal School of Mines in London before leaving to work in the
chemical industry around Manchester, which at the time was the main centre of the chemical industry
in the UK. He worked as a chemist and an inspector for three years. He married

Life Long Learner Approach For Teaching
Having believed in life long learner approach, every now and then I have learned from others at
numerous instances. Before CELTA, teaching was just a mundane practice for me. I was very much an
average teacher and barely try to link with any student. Throughout this whole learning process, I have
enjoyed learning through edutainment, a blend of education and entertainment that enhance learning
tremendously. The guidance and assistance given by my mentors are still working exquisitely; for
certain it was a magnum opus. CELTA reformed my teaching practice; I am on the crest of a wave
since then.
Besides, every teacher can narrate numerous highs and lows in their teaching career. Personally, I
experienced many great moments while teaching. Over my last 8 years of teaching and working in
education, one event stands above the rest as my absolute best teaching experience. Through the years,
I learned so much about teaching and dealing with students. Recently I graduated with TESL Ontario
and TESL Canada from Canadian College of Educators, Canada.
Today TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) plays an imperative role in Canada. TESL
Canada National Certification Standards for Instructors of English as a Second Language or Foreign
Language in Adult Programs were developed for instructors trained in Canada an obligation in today s
ESL or educational world. By all odds, education system has developed more and more than the
previous times and it is one of the leading systems

The Plague Of Fast Food Restaurants
Dru Olson
Marti
English 1A Sec V18

Plague to Society Plague; as defined by dictionary.com is a widespread affliction, calamity, disease or
evil. Fast food has become this plague for America, outgrowing and overrunning the United States
since the opening of Ray Kroc s first McDonalds restaurant in 1955. According to Leslie Patton,
reporter for Bloomberg Business, by 1983 6,000 McDonalds franchises covered the U.S. and for the
next two decades the restaurant has opened about 360 outlets in the U.S. every year. (Patton, Have We
Reached Peak Burger? ) This fast and steady growth has encouraged rivals like Burger King and
Wendy s to do the same; oversaturating communities with corporate giants. The takeover of fast food
franchises has had a direct relation to our health epidemic among American citizens, the decline in
quality of life and the abuse of employees, and even livestock associated with such franchises. The
abundance of fast food restaurants in communities, especially those of lower income, influence
consumer dietary choices and intensifies obesity among adolescents and adults. Obesity is a major
health concern in the United States; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that more
than one third of American adults are obese, and that obesity related conditions such as heart disease,
stroke and type 2 diabetes are the leading cause of preventable death. A study by the Retail Food

Briar Rose Symbolism Essay
The story of Briar Rose is about an evil fairy who wasn t invited to a party. As punishment, she puts a
spell on a child. Her spell was that on her fifteenth year she will fall into deep sleep from a prick on a
spinning wheel. The Brothers Grimm has positioned the audience to see the thirteenth fairy as evil
while Briar Rose and the Prince are seen as good. The theme of good will triumph over evil, is
reinforced through the symbols when good characters defeat evil ones. The Brothers Grimm has
positioned the audience to see the theme of good triumphing over evil through the character
archetypes and symbolic meaning.
The Brothers Grimm has positioned the audience to see the thirteenth fairy as evil while Briar Rose
and the Prince are seen as good. Firstly, the audience has been positioned to see the thirteenth fairy as
an evil villain in the way she dresses herself. The story tells us that she appears in the dining hall

The audience was positioned to see the theme good will always triumph over evil by the symbols. A

transformation. Now that very day the hundred years were ended; and as the prince came to the thicket
he saw nothing but beautiful flowering shrubs . This transform is a sign to the reader that good is
triumphing over evil. As you can see, a thicket of thorns usually indicates evil while flowers usually
show the meaning of good. The theme of good will triumph over evil through the work of symbols

Taking a Look at the Russian Reveloution
In Russia, there were many revolutions, and civil wars, the citizens had an important role. The
Proletariat was the growing class of factory and railroad workers. The Soviets were councils of
workers and soldiers, the secret police were important, they carried out the czar s plans and got rid of
counterrevolutionaries. The Commissar was communist party officials that taught and ensured party
loyalty. The Bolshevik was a general term for the majority, and a Kulak was a wealthy peasant that
was part of a collective, when many peasants farmed together large farms.
After World War one the Russians had boosted their nationality and had high morale. The armies were
enthusiastic to be fighting for Russia. But without enough weapons for everyone, a lot of people died
in battles. The monarchy started to crumble, and the citizens lost trust. Lenin was a Russian
revolutionary in 1870; he grew up with a strong dislike for the Czar and the government. The czar
stepped down from power in 1917, and then Duma politicians set up a temporary government. The
Russians were still at war with Germany and had a weak government. Lenin was the leader of the
Bolsheviks; he used ideas similar to Marx s. The Bolsheviks took over in November 1917; The Red
Guards who were armed workers took over the temporary government. The Bolsheviks later revealed
that they had communist intentions. A civil war in Russia lasted three years between the Reds who

Comparing Media Images Of Criminological Research Essay
iii. Comparing Media Images to Criminological Research
The superhero genre is so popular and influential that many studies have been done on its depictions
of the groups and the impact it has on a large part of society how it has become a staple on film,
television, and in video games (Darowski). The genre is so influential in fact, that it dates back all the
way to the Ancient Greeks, and possibly even further (Haynes). Every group in history has had their
mythologies and epic tales of crime fighters, they just did not call them superheroes. For example,
Achilles only had one weakness (his heel) and was by the Greeks definition, considered a hero (greek
gods.org). The same goes for heroes like Perseus, Theseus, and even Heracles. Back then though
instead of being changed into a super soldier in a lab by a German scientist or creating a flying metal
suit in the desert, these heroes were part god which explained their extra ordinary abilities. Super
crime fighters have always existed, but when comic books began in the 19th century a new set of rules

Representatives of 50 nations met in San Francisco in April through June 1945 to complete the
Charter of the United Nations.
(Messerli,Joe. 2017) The Roosevelt Administration strove at their best and strongest ability to avoid
the mistakes Woodrow Wilson made in the failure of the League of Nations and as well as selling the
League of Nations to the Senate of the United States Of America. This oddly sought bicameral support
from the Republican Party ( Roosevelt s Administration was purely Democrat ) and the Republican
Party endorsed the United States participation in a postwar international organization, in which
Congress overwhelmingly endorsed participation, with a 77% approval rate from Congress itself.
Roosevelt as well sought to convince the public that an international organization was needed and it
would be the best interest to prevent future conflicts in the future. The Senate approved the UN
Charter on July 28, 1945, by a vote of 89 to 2. The United Nations came into existence on October
24,1945, after 29 Nations had ratified the Charter.
The United Nations started on a steep downward trajectory from the high expectations that surrounded
it at its birth. The global security organization envisaged in the Charter of the United Nations, based
on a perpetuation of the victorious alliance against Nazi Germany, was stillborn because of the rapidly
developing rift between the Soviet Union and its Western allies. The

When you think of the Australia you think of how unique it is and how different it is when compared
with the rest of the world. But what does it mean to be an Australian. Do you have to fit into the
typical stereotype of being a bush ranger or a surfer, no Australians are much more than that. Australia
is full of multicularism and diversity then what the rest of the world gives it credit for, which all

Interactive Writing Process Analysis
It has come to my understanding that you have mixed feelings about allowing interactive writing in
the classroom. I m going to pose a few questions for you to think about. What single teaching
technique can be used to aid in the development of phonological skills and help children attribute
meaning to print? How can teachers create a lesson that permits whole group instruction and
individual attention at the same time? How can the teacher practice skills without losing the
engagement of the class? How can learning to read and write be enjoyable for students? The answer to
these questions is interactive writing. Let s first start off with some background information on just
what interactive writing is, its purpose and some uses of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first step in the interactive writing process is to provide active learning experiences. Because
students share countless mutual experiences at school, there s a lot to choose from to write about
during interactive writing. Reading and responding to a story the teacher has read is another way to
share a learning experience. Lastly, allowing students to share personal experiences from their home
life and community initiates a writing experience. Whatever way a teacher decides to start a writing
experience, it s imperative that students are engaged in the process and that the teacher is pulling from
students prior knowledge of an experience they shared together. Establishing the topic comes next in
the interactive writing process. The topic for the interactive writing activity comes by way of the
students joint common experience. Teachers facilitate a discussion with students around their shared
experience as they form sentences they will later put on paper. During this time, the teacher
emboldens students to express themselves in ways that implicitly capture their experience. Composing
the text, or negotiating, follows establishing the topic in the interactive writing experience. During this
step, the teachers and students decide how they will say what they want to write. The wording and
phrasing is a coconstructuve effort between the teacher and students. As always, the teacher facilitates
a discussion to develop a story or a sentence. Once a collective decision is made, the teacher has the
students repeat what they will write numerous times before beginning to write. This is done so the
students remember the sentences and can predict the following word when it comes time to write.
Writing the text, or constructing, is the fourth step of the interactive writing process. While writing,
the teacher and

Easyjet s Business Model Aims
EasyJet s business model aims at using their cost advantage and leading network positions in strong
markets to convey point to point cheap fares and operational efficiency. It provides friendly services to
customers and delivers market leading returns to shareholders, by sustaining a dominant European
network at primary airports, with the main objective of making travel easy and affordable for
customers. Despite the fact that, low priced airline model has been really favoured in recent years,
there are still key issues identified with EasyJet s business model which are; it s cost base, limitation
of airports and oil prices. Firstly, it s cost base. The low priced industry is highly competitive with
various brands contending for the same customer base, which has led to price battles and other actions
that makes it challenging for EasyJet to keep up due to concern over cost involved in trying to cut
fares further or offering any luxury. Secondly, Easy jet stays away from big airports like London
Heathrow airport to cut down cost of landing. However, this makes customers who live nearby the
airports uncomfortable, since time and money are wasted to travel to easy jet landing airports. Lastly,
due to fluctuations in the Middle East, impact of increased oil prices, cost of production is increased
and this eliminates profit margin therefore customers have to pay more.
Companies identified as comparator companies to easy jet include; Ryanair, British airways and

The Royal Bank of Scotland has faced several controversies during the past five years. It had entered
into the mortgage backed securities scandal, the acquisition of Dutch Bank ABN AMRO, suffered
mass losses and had to be bailed out by the British Government which took almost 45 billion British
pounds to keep it afloat. RBC is more than 80% taxpayer owned but this did not help the company to
get rid of their legal problems that included a settlement of $500 million settlement regarding ABN

Symbolism, Allusions And Imagery In Gary Soto s The Jacket
In Gary Soto s short story The Jacket Gary Soto uses symbolism, allusions, and imagery to convey the

boy s jacket starts to fall apart, but he still wears it, which only contributes to the idea that you should

The emphasis on satanic influence and belief in the inferiority of women as conduits of evil made
Puritan communities particularly vulnerable to the hysteria that was constantly inflamed by the
dangerous and uncertain conditions of colonial life. The community atmosphere of seventeenth
century Massachusetts was one of isolationism, paranoia, and repression. Modern historians have
discerned a pattern of crisis and subsequent hysteria among the Puritan villages. Communities in
colonial Massachusetts were extremely vulnerable to famine, attacks from neighboring Indian tribes,
epidemics, and general economic hardship. Communities would generally band together during these
times of crisis, but as soon as the crisis had passed, they would vent their tension and fear by lashing
out at neighbors with accusations of witchcraft as the underlying cause of the crisis. People from
Europe began coming to the U.S to have their religious freedom. In 1691, the new rulers of England,
Mary and William, created a new religious charter, instead of reissuing the old charter, and also
combined the Massachusetts, Plymouth Colony and several other colonies into one. The new charter
and regime basically continued the policies of the Dominion of New England. The puritans, who had
left England due to religious persecution, feared their

The Effects Of Leadership Style On Organizational Performance
Leadership style in an organization is one of the reasons that play a major role in attracting or hold
back the commitment and interest of the individuals in the business. Therefore a manager needs to

organizational relations.
Different researches:
Leadership style has a considerable relation with the organizational performance, and different
leadership styles may have a positive or negative link with the organizational performance. A research

Why Students Should Be A University Essay
Transferring to a four year college or university can be challenging depending on some factors, but it
is not an impossible task. Two year colleges like NOVA are working closely with four year
universities to ensure this transition is smooth and easy. Four year institutions and universities have
also recognized what a transfer student can bring to their schools. Most students attend community
college with a plan of transferring to a four year university. Community Colleges have great
opportunities for their students, with high resources, affordable expenses and small classrooms
students have many reasons for choosing community colleges as a freshman. Nonetheless, an
Associate Degree is designed to be a transition rather than an end goal. According to a study done by
Community College Research Center (CCRC), While 81 percent of entering community college
students indicate they want to earn a bachelor s degree or higher, only 33 percent of entering students
actually transfer to a four year institution within six years (CCRC,2016). There are many factors why
students should consider transferring to a university to at least earn a bachelor s Degree. The main
point being, four year university helps students continue a path of academic and career success. As a
student moves out of the two years community college experience, the academic opportunities become
broader.
Moreover, academic facilities at four year universities offer great resources. University advisors and

Pearl S Buck s The Good Earth

Wang Lung. Wang Lung is, at the beginning of the novel, a traditional poor farmer who works from
sunup to sundown on his field. He marries and has children with a former slave of the great House of

Theme Of Women In The Great Gatsby
Having a successful career and a child is just one of the many skills today s women can achieve.
Present and former expectations of women are dramatically different. The simplest way to compare
the expectations to watch films of different time settings. The 2013 film The Great Gatsby portrays
women to be lower than men during the 20 s, showing audiences the growth of women s rights to
modern day. The women appear as entertainers and trophies to be shown off, while the working men
are providing and pleasing their wife. The women in the film The Great Gatsby are portrayed as
sexual. Two of the main women in the film were involved in sexual affairs. When Daisy and Gatsby
were reconnected it was not long until they were involved sexually with each other. Myrtle and Tom s
affair also lasts throughout the whole film until death does them apart. Non considerate of distributing
his family and guests Myrtle was calling Tom s house at dinner time. Soon after the house calls Tom
and Myrtle met with each other again. This was just one of the instances that Myrtle got Tom involved
in their sexual relationship. Along with involvement in sexual affairs, women in the film were self
obsessed. The first moment we start to recognize a woman s self obsession is when Daisy questions
Tom about Chicago missing her since her marriage. Daisy wants her hometown to miss her so she can

School Programs For Empowering The Youth
After School Programs for Empowering the Youth
The wide spectrum of Los Angeles County has as much variety as tourist sites, as told by the media on
one end. However, on the other end, unfortunately Los Angeles County also consists of highly
disorganized cities and high crime areas. Cities like Huntington Park and Compton are considered
deviant places as described by Siegel (2011) because they are poor, densely populated, and highly
transient neighborhoods (p. 71). Therefore, making these communities at higher risk for engaging in
crime. Also, since the majority of parents living in these communities are working parents, in which
most of them leave their children without parental or guardian supervision during the danger zone,
which consist of after school hours from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. During this time children are unsafe and
have a high possibility to engage in drugs and/ or participate in gang activity. Thus, it is important for
local schools to provide the community with quality after school programs since they deliver a safe
environment where the youth have the ability to learn a variety of skills and more importantly stay out
of trouble. However, there is greater availability of after school programs for K 8 students, leaving
high school students at a disadvantage. Thus, there is a greater need for after school programs to be
implemented in high schools since this is the age group that is most vulnerable to crime activity,
especially teenage males. Youth males are

Examples Of Archetypes In The Odyssey
Adam and Eve, the first people on earth according to the bible, were tempted a lot by the snake or the
devil. One of the tricks that Satan had used was on Eve. God had warned adam and Eve not to eat the
one fruit off of the one tree. While eve was out she had went by the tree, and a snake caught her
attention. This snake turned out to be the devil, and had told Eve to just get a taste of the fruit. Eve
was curious and she took a bite. Now god was after Adam and Eve. They tried to hid behind a bush

Examples Of Conflict In Rules Of The Game By Amy Tan
Within the text Rules of the Game written by Amy Tan, the clash of Chinese beliefs and values with
those of American beliefs and values can be seen. This clash of values and beliefs between two culture
causes many mother daughter conflicts throughout the story. Waverly grew up in San Francisco in a
Chinese American neighborhood while her mother was a first generation immigrant. This difference in
their surroundings has caused their beliefs and values to differ from each other. Due to the clashing of
Chinese and American cultures, there are multiple incidents of conflict between MeiMei and her
mother. A key example of such an incident is when MeiMei is forced to accompany her mother to the
Saturday market. According to the text, MeiMei s mother would proudly walk with MeiMei and tell
everyone who looked towards them that MeiMei was her daughter. MeiMei then told her mom if she
could stop telling everyone who looked their way that MeiMei was her daughter. Her mother
misunderstood what MeiMei said, thinking that MeiMei was ashamed of walking with her. This then
caused MeiMei to tell her mother, If you want to show me off, then why don t you learn to play chess.
When MeiMei had realized that what she said was wrong, she ran away from her mother. To MeiMei,
her mother going around and telling everyone that MeiMei was her daughter was embarrassing
because she didn t want her mom to use her as a source to gain popularity. In MeiMei s beliefs, her
chess victories were her own accomplishments, one she should be the only one to use since she feels
as though she gained them on her own. Her mother on the other hand, sees MeiMei s achievements as
a victory for the whole family and is proud of her daughter. MeiMei misunderstands this, thinking her
mother was just crediting herself for MeiMei s work and so runs off. This clash in values caused this
incident. MeiMei s escape from her mother leads to a new conflict of MeiMei running away from her
mom. It is stated in the text that MeiMei ran through the alleyways until she realized that she was
running from nothing. After two hours, MeiMei returned home and her mother said, We not

My Experience Of My Grandparents s Home
Throughout my childhood my family made a habit of visiting my grandparents home as often as we
could. At six years old, I can remember getting excited on the short, fifteen minute drive to their house
as I sat in my pink floral car seat with my most recent creation from first grade art class laying on my
lap. As my father was driving, I would try to recall and make mental lists of all of the stories I
intended to share with my grandparents as soon as walked in their door. However, I rarely got past my
second anecdote before my grandmother would offer me a sample of her latest baking experiment.
Being a six year old with a quite a sweet tooth, I could never refuse her offer. I always left my
grandparents home with two things: my grandmother s rosy lipstick mark on my forehead and a bag of
sweets in my hands.
Around the holidays, my family s visits to my grandparent s home became more frequent as did my
grandmother s baking. On December afternoons, I would skip up the driveway in my bright red ballet
flats as my curly pigtails bounced, run up the front porch stairs, and burst through the door. Around
this time of the year, I knew to go straight to the kitchen, where I could almost always find my
grandmother standing over a glass mixing bowl full of ingredients for her next creation.
I can remember running up to her and eagerly tugging on her apron to get her attention. No matter
how into her baking she was, my grandmother would always turn around straight away and hug me.

The Legend Of Robin Hood In Anglo-Saxon Lore
The legend of Robin Hood in Anglo Saxon lore represents the people s hero. The histories and other
few writings focused on the great deeds of high kings, lords and knights; English folk lore gave little
attention to the commoner. That is with the notable exception of the yeoman Robin Hood. English
peasants heard the tale of Robin Hood s charismatic rebellion against strict hierarchy and rejoiced.
Robin was the original rebel, the original adventurer, and the hero all Englishmen identified with. For
this reason, Robin Hood has remained a key figure in the collective mythos of the English and of their
cultural children. To understand the importance of Robin Hood and his adventures, one must first
appreciate the extremely mundane lives of the typical English peasant farmer. Born into duty and
loyalty, calcified feudalism forced the serfs to work the land on which they were born for little profit
and gain for a lifetime. Most were illiterate, uneducated, and highly provincial. A serf s purpose was to
remain loyal to his lord and to toil obediently farming the land until death. Even the prospect of
climbing into nobility oneself was impossible. God had made serfs into serfs and lords into lords. To
rebel against one s station in life was to rebel against God. In other words, serfs had nothing to strive
for in the socioeconomic order of medieval England. These fettered minds gave birth to a hero that
captured the hopes and dreams that themselves they could never achieve. The

Sound In The Jungle Book
In the film, The Jungle Book there are different types of sound throughout the movie. The different
types of sound are vocal, music, and sounds effects. These different types of sounds help shapes the
feelings of the audience, helps to reveal the character, and presents the theme of the movie. The Jungle
Book is filled with music from its characters. At different times of the movie the singing gives the
audience a certain type of feeling. When Mowgli and Baloo sing the song about bare necessities it
makes the audience feel joyful and delightful. The audience also gets this same type of feeling from
the song I Wanna Be like You . On the other hand, when Baloo betrayed Mowgli sad music started
playing in the background. This music makes the

Kardashian Informative Speech
A Kardashian (guess who) has recently been reported to separate from a Disick (guess who again)
after spending 9 years and having three children together. The reasons for the break up were the man s
persistent substance abuse problem, and a rumored affair with his ex in Monaco while his baby mama
was celebrating the 4th of July with family and friends in California. These factors combined with
Kardashian s suspicion that he cheated on her with other women was the last straw and her dawning
wake up call. She did it for her kids, and we applaud her for her strength. In light of this woman s
enlightenment, here are a few songs to inspire those who are in a similar shitty situation and to
celebrate those who have been and got themselves out. Below ... Show more content on

The Complex Issue of Climate Change
The effects of climate change are much more complex then a simple rise in temperature. Habitats and
the species that rely on them are disappearing, in what I view as a snowball effect of biodiversity loss.
A reduction in a species habitat will have dire consequences for them as well as other species that co
exist with them, over time every aspect of that environment is affected. In the Artic, sea ice is melting
at a faster then it has in centuries. According to an article published by Aarhus University Climate
change is by far the worst threat to Arctic biodiversity. Temperatures are expected to increase more in
the Arctic compared to the global average, resulting in severe disruptions to Arctic biodiversity some
of which are already visible (Aarhus University, 2013). Among the many species being affected, the
polar bear population has already experienced serious decline because of its reliance on sea ice. Polar
bears rely on the sea ice to hunt, breed, and, in some cases, den. Changes in their population and
distribution are starting to become noticeable within the Arctic ecosystem. There are social,
environmental and economic effects associated with the negative effects climate change has on the
polar bear population. Because of these dire consequences related to climate change, swift action must
be taken in order to help protect this species and its environment. Polar bears have an extensive
history in human culture, starting very early in history and

Analysis Of Eve Harrington
Statement of Intention Eve Harrington is a widely acclaimed Hollywood star with considerable talent,
her career has taken off. Years after 1950, Karen is reflecting about the time they had spent together.
Karen has undergone a period in her life of inaction: Lloyd is still writing esteemed plays, Margo has
settled down by still takes smaller roles for smaller productions. Karen is asked by the New York
Times to write an opinion piece describing honestly her time together. This article would reach both
theatre and film dwellers and fans, eager to find out more about this acclaimed star. In this way its
purpose is to create a true account of the real Eve Harrington. Karen, as being in a high position in
society writes in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Eve I came to discover has insatiable ambition and disregard for kindness that of which I have
never seen in my life. It all started that drizzly night, she didn t seem to be there, waiting for Margo
Channing as she usually did. Strange, never had I seen such devotion toward someone, even a
charismatic and dramatic star like Margo. It was almost odd not to see her, funny how odd behaviours
become normal when repeated. I remember she approached me, pitifully walking out of a dark
doorway, she began to ask about Margo and Bill and Lloyd. I was amazed, never had I seen seemingly
genuine love and devotion for someone as she did. How I did not see through the deliberate ethos and
modesty of the girl is beyond me. From the first moment this tongue tied gushing fan seemed in love
with the theatre, something that she frequently alluded to. We all should have seen, her interest was
not on Margo, it was on the theatre and all its applause. Soon after taking her in to see Margo, she told
her life story. We were transfixed, it seemed tragic and it sent Margo to tears. Only Birdy saw through
the lies that Eve told. Birdy was right and retrospectively it does seem unrealistic that she would have
everything but the blood hounds snapping at her rear end . She then became Margo s personal
assistant, I remember thinking what a helpful and genuine

The Absolute And Constitutional Governments During The...
During the seventeenth century Europe witnessed two prominent forms of government, an absolutist
and a limited/constitutional. Both governments were constructed through several key figures that were
in control of the countries, some more stable than others. Although these key figures tried to dominate
the government under absolute authority their control was still limited. Absolutists monarchies were
trying to be established all over the country, unfortunately many of them failed due to various factors.
Throughout the seventeenth century Europe rulers have tried to maintain an absolutist monarchy
however society still found some holes in their power, which limited the ruler s control. The absolute
and constitutional governments were two very different governments in practice, but also maintained
similar characteristics in both systems of government. The differences between both governments
emerged during the sixteenth and seventeenth century when Europeans began to experiment with
absolutism and constitution monarchies. An absolute monarchy can be defined as the monarch, king or
queen, holds the supreme or absolute powers and rule is based on divine right. In other words, the king
received their power from God, so he only had to answer to God not parliament. The king is entitled to
make all economic and other state related decisions for the country, while the prime minister exercises
effective political power. Absolutism began with the decline of the church and

Statement of Purpose for Becoming a Pediatric Resident
I believe that empathy and interpersonal regard are the foundation stones of human connectedness.
Growing up in the fast growing city of New Delhi in India, I have witnessed several children grow in
front of my eyes. This offered me an opportunity to see how this time of life has an effect on the
whole personality of that person. I always remember my grandma used to tell me how we can only
shape a clay pot when it is soft. Once is it hardened in a kiln, you cannot change the basic structure.
Children are like that soft clay. What they do in childhood defines what they ll be as an adult. This is
After enrolling in medical school, I had firsthand experience in dealing with the pediatric problems
and interacting with their parents. As a pediatrician, it s just not the patients but the parents of the child
that you have to deal with. Working as a medical officer after medical school, I saw many pediatric
cases. I am currently pursuing an observership at the Children Hospital of Orange County, Orange.
The diversity and multiplicity of interesting cases intrigued me on the complexity of the subject.

Sixty four elements were measured in the serum samples of Gout patients with in three regionally and healthy control group by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP MS). An elemental profile of Gout notably altered Al, Li, Ti, Se, Fe, Cu, Sr, Ta, Hg, U, Th, and Bi. An independent group of 39 gout patients and 13 healthy controls was further used to confirm the elemental analysis, yielding a sensitivity of 1.00 and a specificity of 1.00 for Gout forecast. A good link was also observed between Li, Zn, and Cu and further two risk aspects, age and serum urate concentration, in Gout patients. Therefore it was accomplished that gout has a distinctive elemental profile despite of many other nutritional and environmental factors [1]. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In recent decades, studies have shown that the development of Hyperuriemia and Gout is due to effect of lead on the tubular urate transport causing diminished urate excretion. In the case of lead intoxication these effects were mostly linked with renal failure. The clinical features of saturnine gout were basically same as that of primary gout; though, acute attacks were likely to occur in the knee more recurrently. The analysis of saturnine Gout was based on the history of exposure to lead, lead toxicity, high serum lead levels and various other abnormalities. The treatment of Gout consists of eliminating the further exposure to lead from the patient, to utilize chelating agents for removal of lead, and management of acute Gouty Arthritis and Hyperuricaemia ... • 3. Donating blood The Ultimate Gift Imagine that one day you were driving to the mall and out of nowhere, someone run through a red light and crashed straight in to you. You end up in the hospital, needing a blood transfusion. The scene is all too real and it happens every day. In a single car accident, a person could need up to 100 pints of blood. The average person can donate 3 pints every 56 days (redcrossblood.org). This is why, today, I urge you to go out and donate blood. I know some of you may hate the thought of needles or think that giving blood won t really help. But, please consider what I say and make a better informed decision after hearing the benefits of donating blood. People like you made a conscious decision to donate blood and it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A blood technician will clean your skin around the veins in your arm and then insert a needle to extract the blood. The actual extraction of the much needed blood only takes between 15 and 20 minutes and then you may go home or back to class knowing that you just saved up to 3 lives (Children s hospital pamphlet). Theoretically, there is no reason why hospitals should not have enough safe blood for their patients. I read from the Children s Hospital 2011 pamphlet, that if just 10% of all possible donors give blood once a year, we will NEVER have a blood shortage problem. Also, patients can eliminate their apprehensions about receiving blood if only clean blood donors are donating. There are numerous benefits of giving blood. Soon after giving blood, you will receive a plastic card with your blood type on it with the phrase, Congratulations, you have just saved up to three lives! Also, you get to enjoy your favorite cookies, crackers, and beverages while you donate. Some of you still many have questions about giving blood. Are you thinking, I would love to donate blood, but doesn t it hurt really bad? Are you thinking, I m sure I have my blood for a reason, I m not so sure I want to just give it away to a stranger when I need it to survive. You cannot hurt yourself by giving blood. In the early 2000 s, HealthSouth was under investigation by the SEC for overstating earnings by 2.5 billion dollars. Simply stated, the CEO, Richard Scrushy, and his leadership team were cooking the books. Fortunately for HeatlhSouth, Jay Grinney succeeded Scrushy and the company has rebounded better than before, seeing growth across the country and showing increased stock prices (Macfadyen. 2015). To recover from this gross negligence and to be able to move forward in a highly regulated health care industry required the top executives to develop a robust ethics and compliance program to prevent further unethical ... Silverman argues that O Rourke constructed a limited view of the New Guinea tribes. Silverman attributes the eroding authenticity to the tourists pursuit for entertainment in exchange for money. For instance, O Rourke s interviews mostly covered reactions from tourists and how they gawked over the natives, arrogantly depicting their primitive lives. Silverman argues that the film portrays tourism as a process that only disempowers local people and erodes from their lives all genuine, meaningful dimensions of their culture (Silverman 1996). However O Rourke differs from the tourists because he is on their land with a goal in mind of creating a film. • 6. A Textbook Example Of What s Wrong Summary Paulo Freire starts out referring to the Fundamentally narrative character (Freire 1) of education. Loewen starts introduction with high school students hate history (Loewen, 1). At first blush, one wouldn t think the two had much in common. Perhaps, they don t have that much in common, but they do have a common complaint. They both have a dislike for what Freire calls the Banking method of education. Freire defines it as the teacher s task to fill the students with the contents of his narration (Freire, 2). Freire might have been a wild eyed radical, but he was more or less on point with his narration complaint. Loewen similarly has issues with the manner in which History is taught, in particular, he takes great pains to describe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are, literally, volumes written just about the politics of textbooks. The true depth of the chaos is too much to go into here. Loewen only scratches the surface when he describes the boondoggle that is the school textbook in his introduction. In an article titled A Textbook Example of What s Wrong with Education, Tamim Ansary takes it a step further. He describes in detail what Loewen only lightly touched on. It s real inside baseball type stuff, or probably more accurately described as how the sausage is made. He describes the biggest issue as ensuring that the books are necessarily bland to ensure that they will offend no one on the left or right. There are activists groups on both sides of the political spectrum that do little more than dig through proposed textbooks looking for things to find objectionable (Ansary). Of course, one mustn t forget the fact that money is always a factor. Texas, a big fish where textbooks are concerned, spends approx. $42 billion on public schools and there is a specific amount allocated in adoption years for just textbooks (Ansary). Too much truth can get in the way of business. It s not about the most accurate or the most interesting textbooks, but rather about being as inoffensive as possible to the most people. He met Tyler Durden, played by Brad Pitt, who was a different version of himself resulting from not releasing aggression. The result of not releasing aggression in a healthy way started symptoms, including insomnia and getting away from the self, the need for self destruction, and the need for physical release of aggression. These affect the relationship with one s self, romantic relationships, and social relationships. The narrator leads a very mundane, materialistic life. • 9. Rebalancing In China Essay Conflicting views Under the Obama administration, the term rebalancing has been stated when it comes to the relationships in the South China Sea. The point of rebalancing has come up when speaking about the confrontation in the South China Sea. The idea is that the United States wants to restore the original agreement by UNCLOS in order to give its allies a fair piece of the South China Sea and its resources. China views this not as rebalancing, but as suppression. China has stated that the United States just wanted to subdue China in the South China Sea and stop it development so it cannot compete. This along with other factors has created greater tension between these two powerful nations. In terms of the military, both of these nation boast the as one of the strongest militaries in the world, but fir different reasons. China has one of the world s largest military s in sheer numbers, mainly based on the ground. With the current confrontation and placement of the nine dash line, China is quickly building its navy capable of moving around the world. All though they have the numbers china does not have the extensive reach that the United States has. China cannot move troops as far and as quickly. • 10. Literary Devices In The Epic Of Gilgamesh The author uses many literary devices in The Epic of Gilgamesh in order to describe the character of Humbaba, the one who guards the cedar forest, because he wants the reader to be just as fearful of the character as Enkidu, who is the speaker of lines 155 158 in the text. The character s fear of the ugly beast is ironic because when Enkidu dies Gilgamesh too becomes afraid to die. Another reason I chose this short passage is that the author uses imagery and foreshadowing to hint to the reader what happens later on in the epic and I believe it is essential to the poem. The author also uses repetition in order to stress the idea that Humbaba is not to be tormented. Enkidu warns Gilgamesh not to go near the forest of cedars to kill Humbaba, but Gilgamesh laughs at him and asks Enkidu why he is afraid to die all of the sudden. The paragraph I chose also prepares the reader for unforeseen events that occur later on in the epic poem, including Enkidu s death. Enkidu is weary of Gilgamesh s plan and is not in agreeance to join him initially. He questions Gilgamesh s idea about the quest to kill Humbaba. Enkidu says, How shall the likes of us go to the forest of cedars, my friend (line 155). Enkidu is not confident in his abilities to conquer Humbaba. The author includes this line to symbolize Enkidu becoming more civilized. Enkidu shows fear for someone he used to live amongst in the forest, and he is starting to realize that nature is something to be feared. Gilgamesh ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The literary canon is a controversial topic between english scholars and it has been debated as to whether or not it is important to continue teaching the canon to students. The canon is quintessential to the school program and will forever be the what makes Literature special. The canon is the be all end all of english texts, in its most simple form the canon is a list of texts which is considered to be the best works of Literature in human history. However each person s opinion on what constitutes a literary text can differ from one person to another. For me ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The selection for canonical texts is still controversial as there are many criteria required for selection into the canon such as use of language, imagery, it must stand the test of time, and reflects on the social views at the time the text was written. Literature and the canon is still important. What do we lose when we don t teach students about it? This is the question which I will answer for you here today. A range of educators including Emily Chiariello have debated that Literature is a waste of time and should not be taught, because of the difference between the language now and the language that was used when the texts were written this is what she means when they ask Is the instructional time spent struggling to understand classics archaic language worth it? Does this lead to teachers reading for students? in her article titled A Classic Debate . When she says this she ignores how the difference in language can highlight messages in the novel, as Literature is art. I want to study Chemical Engineering because of its increasingly significant role in our society, particularly across a variety of industries from petrochemicals to environmental technology. Chemical engineering is a branch of engineering that applies physical sciences (physics and chemistry), life sciences (microbiology and biochemistry), together with applied mathematics and economics to produce, transform, transport, and properly use chemicals, materials and energy. It is about making processes and facilities function more efficiently. In the first paragraph I will be talking about the founder of Chemical Engineering and how it started. In the second paragraph I will be talking about how to be a chemical engineer. In the third paragraph I will be talking about the history of chemical engineering and I will finish everything off in the last paragraph. The founding father of chemical engineering is George E. Davis. He was born in July 27, 1850 in Eton, United Kingdom and died in 1960 in Birmingham, United Kingdom. He was the oldest son in his family. Davis studied at the Slough Mechanics Institute while working at the local gas works, and then spent a year studying at the Royal School of Mines in London before leaving to work in the chemical industry around Manchester, which at the time was the main centre of the chemical industry in the UK. • 15. Life Long Learner Approach For Teaching Having believed in life long learner approach, every now and then I have learned from others at numerous instances. Before CELTA, teaching was just a mundane practice for me. I was very much an average teacher and barely try to link with any student. Throughout this whole learning process, I have enjoyed learning through edutainment, a blend of education and entertainment that enhance learning tremendously. The guidance and assistance given by my mentors are still working exquisitely; for certain it was a magnum opus. CELTA reformed my teaching practice; I am on the crest of a wave since then. Besides, every teacher can narrate numerous highs and lows in their teaching career. Personally, I experienced many great moments while teaching. Over my last 8 years of teaching and working in education, one event stands above the rest as my absolute best teaching experience. Through the years, I learned so much about teaching and dealing with students. Recently I graduated with TESL Ontario and TESL Canada from Canadian College of Educators, Canada. Today TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) plays an imperative role in Canada. TESL Canada National Certification Standards for Instructors of English as a Second Language or Foreign Language in Adult Programs were developed for instructors trained in Canada an obligation in today s ESL or educational world. The Plague Of Fast Food Restaurants Dru Olson Marti English 1A Sec V18 27 October 2015 Plague to Society Plague; as defined by dictionary.com is a widespread affliction, calamity, disease or evil. Fast food has become this plague for America, outgrowing and overrunning the United States since the opening of Ray Kroc s first McDonalds restaurant in 1955. According to Leslie Patton, reporter for Bloomberg Business, by 1983 6,000 McDonalds franchises covered the U.S. and for the next two decades the restaurant has opened about 360 outlets in the U.S. every year. (Patton, Have We Reached Peak Burger? ) This fast and steady growth has encouraged rivals like Burger King and Wendy s to do the same; oversaturating communities with corporate giants. The takeover of fast food franchises has had a direct relation to our health epidemic among American citizens, the decline in quality of life and the abuse of employees, and even livestock associated with such franchises. The abundance of fast food restaurants in communities, especially those of lower income, influence consumer dietary choices and intensifies obesity among adolescents and adults. Obesity is a major health concern in the United States; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that more than one third of American adults are obese, and that obesity related conditions such as heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes are the leading cause of preventable death. But without enough weapons for everyone, a lot of people died in battles. The monarchy started to crumble, and the citizens lost trust. Lenin was a Russian revolutionary in 1870; he grew up with a strong dislike for the Czar and the government. • 21. Comparing Media Images Of Criminological Research Essay iii. Comparing Media Images to Criminological Research The superhero genre is so popular and influential that many studies have been done on its depictions of the groups and the impact it has on a large part of society how it has become a staple on film, television, and in video games (Darowski). The genre is so influential in fact, that it dates back all the way to the Ancient Greeks, and possibly even further (Haynes). Every group in history has had their mythologies and epic tales of crime fighters, they just did not call them superheroes. For example, Achilles only had one weakness (his heel) and was by the Greeks definition, considered a hero (greek gods.org). The same goes for heroes like Perseus, Theseus, and even Heracles. Back then though instead of being changed into a super soldier in a lab by a German scientist or creating a flying metal suit in the desert, these heroes were part god which explained their extra ordinary abilities. Super crime fighters have always existed, but when comic books began in the 19th century a new set of rules was created to guide their content to be more appropriate than the Greek tales (Coville). The Comics Code was a list of regulations regarding the depiction of certain events in comic books maintained by the Comics Magazine Association of America (Nyberg). The code was very strict and eventually challenged by Stan Lee (one of the creators of Marvel) through a story arc in the Spiderman Comics that dealt with drug abuse. ... How can teachers create a lesson that permits whole group instruction and individual attention at the same time? How can the teacher practice skills without losing the engagement of the class? How can learning to read and write be enjoyable for students? The answer to these questions is interactive writing. The first step in the interactive writing process is to provide active learning experiences. Because students share countless mutual experiences at school, there s a lot to choose from to write about during interactive writing. Reading and responding to a story the teacher has read is another way to share a learning experience. Lastly, allowing students to share personal experiences from their home life and community initiates a writing experience. Whatever way a teacher decides to start a writing experience, it s imperative that students are engaged in the process and that the teacher is pulling from students prior knowledge of an experience they shared together. Establishing the topic comes next in the interactive writing process. The topic for the interactive writing activity comes by way of the students joint common experience. Teachers facilitate a discussion with students around their shared experience as they form sentences they will later put on paper. During this time, the teacher emboldens students to express themselves in ways that implicitly capture their experience. Composing the text, or negotiating, follows establishing the topic in the interactive writing experience. During this step, the teachers and students decide how they will say what they want to write. The wording and phrasing is a coconstructuve effort between the teacher and students. As always, the teacher facilitates a discussion to develop a story or a sentence. Once a collective decision is made, the teacher has the students repeat what they will write numerous times before beginning to write. This is done so the students remember the sentences and can predict the following word when it comes time to write. Writing the text, or constructing, is the fourth step of the interactive writing process. While writing, the teacher and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Little Rock Central High School Research Paper The road to the historic desegregation of Little Rock Central High school began in the 1930 s when the NAACP tasked future Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall with fighting segregation in schools. By 1950 he had helped to strike down segregation in universities in several states. In 1951, the NAACP aided parents of black children attending public schools in Topeka, Kansas in attempting to overturn the state s segregation laws. After a three year court battle, the 1954 Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education Topeka culminated in the abolishment of school segregation laws in 21 states. Faubus ordered the Arkansas National Guard to prevent the students from entering Central High. The students attempted to stay on track with their education via correspondence courses and help from students of the local college for nearly three weeks as the NAACP fought their case in the courts. President Eisenhower met with the governor and convinced him to rescind the National Guard. The nine students once again tried to enter the school on September 23rd with a police escort but were met with a mob of over 1,000 angry whites calling for their deaths. After making their way into a side door, the Little Rock Nine were separated and sent to their first classes. Half way through the day the mob overpowered the police and the nine black students were rushed out of the building in two large cars as TV cameras showed the American people the chaos unfolding in Little Rock. The next day, President Eisenhower federalized the Arkansas National Guard and ordered over 1000 men from the US Army s 101st Airborne division to protect the students. • 44. Examples Of Conflict In Rules Of The Game By Amy Tan Within the text Rules of the Game written by Amy Tan, the clash of Chinese beliefs and values with those of American beliefs and values can be seen. This clash of values and beliefs between two culture causes many mother daughter conflicts throughout the story. Waverly grew up in San Francisco in a Chinese American neighborhood while her mother was a first generation immigrant. This difference in their surroundings has caused their beliefs and values to differ from each other. Due to the clashing of Chinese and American cultures, there are multiple incidents of conflict between MeiMei and her mother. A key example of such an incident is when MeiMei is forced to accompany her mother to the Saturday market. According to the text, MeiMei s mother would proudly walk with MeiMei and tell everyone who looked towards them that MeiMei was her daughter. MeiMei then told her mom if she could stop telling everyone who looked their way that MeiMei was her daughter. Her mother misunderstood what MeiMei said, thinking that MeiMei was ashamed of walking with her. This then caused MeiMei to tell her mother, If you want to show me off, then why don t you learn to play chess. When MeiMei had realized that what she said was wrong, she ran away from her mother. To MeiMei, her mother going around and telling everyone that MeiMei was her daughter was embarrassing because she didn t want her mom to use her as a source to gain popularity. In MeiMei s beliefs, her chess victories were her own accomplishments, one she should be the only one to use since she feels as though she gained them on her own. Her mother on the other hand, sees MeiMei s achievements as a victory for the whole family and is proud of her daughter. MeiMei misunderstands this, thinking her mother was just crediting herself for MeiMei s work and so runs off. This clash in values caused this incident. MeiMei s escape from her mother leads to a new conflict of MeiMei running away from her mom. It is stated in the text that MeiMei ran through the alleyways until she realized that she was running from nothing. After two hours, MeiMei returned home and her mother said, We not concerning this girl. This girl not have concerning for us. From this it can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. My Experience Of My Grandparents s Home Throughout my childhood my family made a habit of visiting my grandparents home as often as we could. At six years old, I can remember getting excited on the short, fifteen minute drive to their house as I sat in my pink floral car seat with my most recent creation from first grade art class laying on my lap. As my father was driving, I would try to recall and make mental lists of all of the stories I intended to share with my grandparents as soon as walked in their door. However, I rarely got past my second anecdote before my grandmother would offer me a sample of her latest baking experiment. Being a six year old with a quite a sweet tooth, I could never refuse her offer. I always left my grandparents home with two things: my grandmother s rosy lipstick mark on my forehead and a bag of sweets in my hands. Around the holidays, my family s visits to my grandparent s home became more frequent as did my grandmother s baking. On December afternoons, I would skip up the driveway in my bright red ballet flats as my curly pigtails bounced, run up the front porch stairs, and burst through the door. Around this time of the year, I knew to go straight to the kitchen, where I could almost always find my grandmother standing over a glass mixing bowl full of ingredients for her next creation. I can remember running up to her and eagerly tugging on her apron to get her attention. No matter how into her baking she was, my grandmother would always turn around straight away and hug me. ... • 46. The Legend Of Robin Hood In Anglo-Saxon Lore The legend of Robin Hood in Anglo Saxon lore represents the people s hero. The histories and other few writings focused on the great deeds of high kings, lords and knights; English folk lore gave little attention to the commoner. That is with the notable exception of the yeoman Robin Hood. English peasants heard the tale of Robin Hood s charismatic rebellion against strict hierarchy and rejoiced. Robin was the original rebel, the original adventurer, and the hero all Englishmen identified with. For this reason, Robin Hood has remained a key figure in the collective mythos of the English and of their cultural children. To understand the importance of Robin Hood and his adventures, one must first appreciate the extremely mundane lives of the typical English peasant farmer. Born into duty and loyalty, calcified feudalism forced the serfs to work the land on which they were born for little profit and gain for a lifetime. Most were illiterate, uneducated, and highly provincial. A serf s purpose was to remain loyal to his lord and to toil obediently farming the land until death. Even the prospect of climbing into nobility oneself was impossible. God had made serfs into serfs and lords into lords. To rebel against one s station in life was to rebel against God. In other words, serfs had nothing to strive for in the socioeconomic order of medieval England. These fettered minds gave birth to a hero that captured the hopes and dreams that themselves they could never achieve. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The reasons for the break up were the man s persistent substance abuse problem, and a rumored affair with his ex in Monaco while his baby mama was celebrating the 4th of July with family and friends in California. These factors combined with Kardashian s suspicion that he cheated on her with other women was the last straw and her dawning wake up call. • 49. The Complex Issue of Climate Change The effects of climate change are much more complex then a simple rise in temperature. Habitats and the species that rely on them are disappearing, in what I view as a snowball effect of biodiversity loss. A reduction in a species habitat will have dire consequences for them as well as other species that co exist with them, over time every aspect of that environment is affected. In the Artic, sea ice is melting at a faster then it has in centuries. According to an article published by Aarhus University Climate change is by far the worst threat to Arctic biodiversity. Temperatures are expected to increase more in the Arctic compared to the global average, resulting in severe disruptions to Arctic biodiversity some of which are already visible (Aarhus University, 2013). Among the many species being affected, the polar bear population has already experienced serious decline because of its reliance on sea ice. Polar bears rely on the sea ice to hunt, breed, and, in some cases, den. Changes in their population and distribution are starting to become noticeable within the Arctic ecosystem. There are social, environmental and economic effects associated with the negative effects climate change has on the polar bear population. Because of these dire consequences related to climate change, swift action must be taken in order to help protect this species and its environment. Polar bears have an extensive history in human culture, starting very early in history and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Eve I came to discover has insatiable ambition and disregard for kindness that of which I have never seen in my life. It all started that drizzly night, she didn t seem to be there, waiting for Margo Channing as she usually did. Strange, never had I seen such devotion toward someone, even a charismatic and dramatic star like Margo. It was almost odd not to see her, funny how odd behaviours become normal when repeated. I remember she approached me, pitifully walking out of a dark doorway, she began to ask about Margo and Bill and Lloyd. I was amazed, never had I seen seemingly genuine love and devotion for someone as she did. How I did not see through the deliberate ethos and modesty of the girl is beyond me. From the first moment this tongue tied gushing fan seemed in love with the theatre, something that she frequently alluded to. We all should have seen, her interest was not on Margo, it was on the theatre and all its applause. Soon after taking her in to see Margo, she told her life story. We were transfixed, it seemed tragic and it sent Margo to tears. Only Birdy saw through the lies that Eve told. Birdy was right and retrospectively it does seem unrealistic that she would have everything but the blood hounds snapping at her rear end . She then became Margo s personal assistant, I remember thinking what a helpful and genuine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. The Absolute And Constitutional Governments During The... During the seventeenth century Europe witnessed two prominent forms of government, an absolutist and a limited/constitutional. Both governments were constructed through several key figures that were in control of the countries, some more stable than others. Although these key figures tried to dominate the government under absolute authority their control was still limited. Absolutists monarchies were trying to be established all over the country, unfortunately many of them failed due to various factors. Throughout the seventeenth century Europe rulers have tried to maintain an absolutist monarchy however society still found some holes in their power, which limited the ruler s control. The absolute and constitutional governments were two very different governments in practice, but also maintained similar characteristics in both systems of government. The differences between both governments emerged during the sixteenth and seventeenth century when Europeans began to experiment with absolutism and constitution monarchies. An absolute monarchy can be defined as the monarch, king or queen, holds the supreme or absolute powers and rule is based on divine right. In other words, the king received their power from God, so he only had to answer to God not parliament. The king is entitled to make all economic and other state related decisions for the country, while the prime minister exercises effective political power. Growing up in the fast growing city of New Delhi in India, I have witnessed several children grow in front of my eyes. This offered me an opportunity to see how this time of life has an effect on the whole personality of that person. I always remember my grandma used to tell me how we can only shape a clay pot when it is soft. Once is it hardened in a kiln, you cannot change the basic structure. Children are like that soft clay. What they do in childhood defines what they ll be as an adult. This is After enrolling in medical school, I had firsthand experience in dealing with the pediatric problems and interacting with their parents. As a pediatrician, it s just not the patients but the parents of the child that you have to deal with. Working as a medical officer after medical school, I saw many pediatric cases. I am currently pursuing an observership at the Children Hospital of Orange County, Orange. The diversity and multiplicity of interesting cases intrigued me on the complexity of the subject. where I regularly see a variety of patients from different socio cultural backgrounds.. through which I conducted research and presented Grand Rounds on efficacy of mental health outreach in religious settings.
