Music And Its Effect On Life
Music, a vocal or instrumental sound (sometimes both) combined in a way that produces beauty of form,
harmony, and expression of emotion or some might say the art or skills of creating or performing a piece. A
favorite song is probably your favorite because it is associated with an emotional event in your life (Music).
Over the years, music has drastically altered and has become very different from what it used to be. There was
once a purpose, but as time progressed, it is sad to say the importance or significance is basically gone. Music
is said to have begun during the time of the cavemen it was the grunts, groans, and whines that created the
soul sound that would eventually become something so beautiful and unique. They began by hitting rocks and
logs and soon after language was formed, and their voices became one with the instruments (N.A.). Now
within each time period, music made more of an impact and established a distinctive sound. From Medieval to
Renaissance, to the Baroque, Classical and the Romantic period each individual time span brought more to the
meaning of what music really is. An emotional connection that could change a person mood in an instant. A
sound that allowed anyone to connect with not only the words but also the instruments as well. As music
evolved during the 1900 s more genres were created, for example, ragtime, big band, jazz, blues, hip hop, etc.
(N.A., Music History). Now today s compositions tend to bring out the worst in this particular

Consequences Of The American Revolution
Was the American Revolution really necessary? Yes, I think the American Revolution was necessary and it
was inevitable because of the continuing tension and problems between the colonists and the British, the
Revolution would have eventually happened.
As the thirteen British colonies formed and developed, King George was sitting atop his throne with a grin.
The profit that would come out of these territories would surely be an immense benefit for Britain for many
years to come. Then, in the early 1600 s, the king certainly did not realize the sense of separation the new
colonists would feel being so far away from Britain. The longer they were apart, the more they experienced
what life without Britain was like According to the dictionary, Salutary Neglect refers to the seventeenth and
eighteenth century British Crown policy of avoiding strict enforcement of parliamentary laws meant to keep
American colonies obedient to England. And that is what it initially was Britain putting the colonies on cruise
control or autopilot. But what Britain didn t know was that once the colonies tasted freedom, it would be
really hard to take it back from them, which can be seen through the American Revolution...So the colonists
were angry when salutary neglect ended because Britain was monitoring everything they were doing. They
were no longer allowed to conduct their assembly town meetings and their trade with other countries was
strictly regulated. The end of salutary neglect was what

Near Ascetic Hermits In Tohoku
SANSUI 2014,film A myth that dwells within Tohoku. Mountain of the sun, and mountain of the moon.
Beauty that transcends its ascetic practices. SANSUI drew its first breath when the artist visited the Tohoku
Region of Japan. The artist determined the fabuleux pilgrimage route of the lost mountain worship by
interacting with mountain ascetic hermits and hi own research. By bridging the two brutal mountains of the
North in mid winter ーthe mountain of the sun (Mount Choukai) and the mountain of the moon (Mount
Gassan) ー with a straight line upon a map, he captured the whirl circulation of the rivers and the waterfalls as
a riverine system, forests, earth and sky on exquisite film. These footages attained through near ascetic

a medium that conduced to the aesthetic of this piece. The power of the super resolution sensor made it

My Final Grades From The Past Two Semesters
What you see before you are my final grades from the past two semesters. While I know you re concerned
with the letters and numbers, rest assure that these are about as insightful as an Instagram photo. My first
semester of freshman year, for the most part, went by without much of a hiccup. I was able to coast by with
the same mindset towards learning I carried in high school, and I finished with a 3.30 GPA. Afterward, my
second semester was what lead me to buckle down. I realized that I would need to dedicate my time outside of
the classroom to studying and comprehending the material. My classes were going to become harder, each
assignment more crucial, and my time more valuable. Thus, about midway through the semester, I was
building better habits with studying and learning in general. Keep in mind that at this point; I was still
adapting to the routine of a college curriculum. Even though I adopted a serious attitude towards each of my
classes, there was still something working against my favor. Looking back now, I realize that I had been
enrolled in more credit hours than, perhaps, what I could handle. The increase was only one extra credit hour
(16 to 17) which came from a chemistry lab that I needed to take as a science. But, considering that I went
from taking all 100 level classes to 200 level classes, including a 300 level class, the extra credit hour was
enough to stretch my workload. Plus, we had a lab report due almost every week, which is more than what

Cesar Chavez Struggle In The Fields Analysis
SSCI 100 Assignment #2
The Struggle in the Fields has always been a controversial issue. In the PBS series, we get to learn how many
obstacles came along, when many Filipino farm workers along with Mexican American workers began to
demand a change in the fields.
The struggle in the fields was a movement that was primarily started as a strike in 1965 by Filipino farm
workers in Coachella, California than it was led by Cesar Chavez throughout the central valley, they
demanded better working conditions from the Growers. Many Mexican American farm workers in Delano,
California started to walk off the fields, refusing to pick grapes until the demands they had were heard. The
workers were tired of inhuman treatment and the poor working conditions, ... Show more content on

Their faith allowed them to feel stronger when the movement was taking place, it allowed them to fight in
several different ways. The movement was already in the fifth month and they had not seen any type of
change, this was when Cesar Chavez decided to start a peregrinacion to Sacramento. His goal was to recruit or
inspire as many people so they could join the movement and have a louder voice. This brought an opportunity
to take their voices all around the San Joaquin valley, they saw the valley as a place that had been full of
limitations for them and the peregrinacion made the limitations disappear, they were able to surpass those
walls, and as they walked throughout many towns more and more people became sympathetic to their cause
and joined them on this journey. When they were on the peregrinacion their mornings began with the faith
they had held they went to mass, after they would begin to walk to the next town, following a sacred image of
La Virgen de Guadalupe it gave them hope. His nonviolence policy also had a lot to give to the movement, as
years pass many of the farm workers became frustrated at the fact that they had not seen any changes, they
began to talk about using violence against the growers, this was when Cesar Chavez began to worry about the
things they could do, and he took matters into his own hands. In 1968 he started a

Beowulf as an Epic Hero
Beowulf as an epic hero
Beowulf is a poem that was written in Anglo Saxon, between 700 and 1000 A.D., and is probably one of the
most important works of Anglo Saxon literature. It tells the story of the heroic acts in the life of our
protagonist, Beowulf. It takes place in Scandinavia (Denmark and Sweden precisely), around 500 A.D.
Beowulf is a hero of the Geats who arrives in Denmark from Geatland to help the king of the Danes, Hrothgar.
Hrothgar enjoyed a successful and prosperous reign: he built a great mead hall, called Heorot, which mere
purpose was to serve as a place where warriors could gather to drink, tell stories and enjoy the songs of the
scops or bards. But, these gatherings were quite loud and jubilant, and they had ... Show more content on

The definition of a hero implied facing the impossible with only courage and strength, and even if that
resulted in his death, he would consider it a most honourable way to die. After he wins the fight against
Grendel, he has the option to stay back while Grendel s mother tries to avenge him. But Beowulf was a great
warrior, and he knew that if Grendel s mother wanted someone to pay for her son s death, it must be him, the
one who killed Grendel in the first place. However, he doesn t go to her lake just to let her have her revenge;
he is determined to free Denmark from the horrifying monsters: first Grendel, and now his mother. Another
key factor in his decision is the fact that Grendel s mother kills Aeschere, a man of Hrothgar s. But this is not
all of Beowulf s greatness as a hero. He was a loyal warrior, never betraying or letting down his lord, Hygelac.
Even after Hygelac s death, he showed loyalty and respect to both his king and the throne, and supported the
son of Hygelac in becoming the new king of the Geats. However, after a while, Hygelac s son died, and
Beowulf became the new king. His reign brought peace and prosperity to Geatland, and this lasted for fifty
years, until one day, a dragon was awoken and threatened to burn down the country. Even though he was not
the same young and strong warrior anymore, Beowulf was still brave. This shows another phase of Beowulf s
life: in his youth, he was a warrior

Developing Social Network and Strengthening Social Support for New International Students of Ohio
University
Background
International students need social support because they will face at least two challenges in the new academic
settings. First, the adaptation to the new environment because of different geographic location, climate and
also different culture. Second, adaptation to new educational system that may differ with home country system
with different academic demand. Moreover, International students will also challenged by being away from
family and relatives and also will deal with technical and financial aspects. Consequently developing the new

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
Counseling therapies are as diverse as the counselors who practice them and the clients who experience them.
Most counselors use a specific theory when working with their diverse clients. Understanding and applying
the appropriate therapy for each unique client in the counseling session is imperative. Common theories
include, person centered therapy, solution focused therapy, Adlerian therapy, and cognitive behavior therapy.
These theories can be applied when counseling, however they do have their limitations. Specifically, Solution
Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) contains methods that can be used with all age groups because of its broad
techniques such as, exception questions, the miracle question, and scaling questions. This theory can be
especially helpful when working with college students. Solution focused brief therapy (SFBT) has been in
development since the early 1980 s, and has been described as a postmodern solution talk approach. Steve De
Shazar and Insoo Kim Berg developed SFBT at the Brief Family Therapy Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
After marriage, they continued to modify their research and brief therapy is used successfully today in
psychotherapy and coaching (Corey, 2017). SFBT is a goal directed, future focused, short term therapeutic
approach. According to Gerald Corey (2017), De Shazar believes clients ... Show more content on

diagnosis, therefore allowing the individual freedom of expression. For instance, a case where a student is

When are the times you managed to pass an English class? This technique will help the client reframe their
situation and show that at a certain point in time they were passing, and that this goal is

To Kill A Mockingbird Dystopian Essay
The Oxford English Dictionary defines dystopia as an imagined place or state in which everything is
unpleasant or bad, typically a totalitarian or environmentally degraded one. The novel To Kill a Mockingbird
is a sad novel with mystery and excitement. There is prejudice against black people, and little seems to be
right. One may wonder if the book meets the standards of a dystopian novel. The book overall does not meet
the qualifications of a dystopian novel for many reasons. To start, the first reason that To Kill a Mockingbird is
not a dystopian novel is its setting. A dystopian novel usually has a futuristic science fiction setting. The novel
is set in the tired old town of Maycomb, Alabama during the 1930 s (Lee 5). There are no advanced
technological advancements; it is a plain simple town. Macomb, while it is fictional, is very realistic. To Kill a
Mockingbird does not match the setting of a typical dystopian novel like Fahrenheit 451 and Hunger Games.
Both of those books fit the cookie cutter dystopian book perfectly as far as the setting of each novel goes. ...

To Kill a Mockingbird the protagonist is Scout. At the end of the book she realizes that awful prejudice
society had against black people; however, she in no way tries to fix it. In dystopian novels such as Divergent
the main character realizes that there is something radically wrong with their society, such as division of
people. The protagonist, Tris, wants to repair society. There is a fundamental injustice in the society in To Kill
a Mockingbird of segregation. Scout being a young girl can have little effect on the views of the people
around her and she does nothing

Perception Of Blind And Fair Justice
Despite the appealing notion of blind and fair justice, many question the existence of this ideal in reality and
rightly so. Many of the challenges to law s claim of impartiality concern the influence of social characteristics
such as race or sex when they should be irrelevant. Marc Galanter introduces a more structural argument,
related to the frequency with which one litigates, bringing disputes before a court. Galanter claims that those
who regularly engage in similar litigation, whom he labels repeat players (RPs) have multiple advantages over
one shotters (OSs), who rarely enter the forum of law, where courts interpret and apply official rules to settle
disputes, in their ability to achieve desired legal outcomes. The fact that ... Show more content on

Though not all repeat players are necessarily society s haves some of the residents of the urban neighborhood
studied by Sally Engle Merry are examples of exceptions in American society, most are. One often thinks of
haves and have nots in terms of material differences, but where Galanter adds the most value to the discussion
of inequality is his explanation of the more dynamic advantages that come from more frequent legal
engagement and which continually reinforce this inequality.
Part of Galanter s project in identifying the mechanism behind systematic biases in the courts is his desire to
prescribe potential avenues for reform. It is not only important to recognize that the haves come out ahead but
also why they do. Though he does discuss tangible differences in resources, including access to specialized
knowledge, those factors alone can miss the less tangible benefits that certain parties enjoy. For example, due
to their ongoing contact with the court, RPs uniquely have the opportunity to become more embedded in the
community of legal actors and build social capital through these informal relationships. Though Eisenstein,
Flemming, and Nardulli specifically study county criminal courts in their study, their observations of the
unique cultures of court communities can extend to the forum of law more broadly. They note that
membership in such a community allows for trust to be established and credit to be built.

The Effect Of Lying Had On Nervous System By Monitoring...
Introduction:
During this study we assessed the effect lying had on the autonomic nervous system by monitoring galvanic
skin response (GSR). We used GSR, a measure of the skin conductivity, as a very basic form of polygraph
test. The electronic conductivity of skin in not held constant. Instead, it changes based on the current state of
the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS is comprised of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous
system (Gazzaniga and Heatherton, 2015). The sympathetic branch causes increases in arousal. It controls
responses such as pupil dilation, increased heart rate, and decreased digestive activity that are normally
associated with the fight or flight response (Gazzaniga and Heatherton, 2015). The parasympathetic branch
acts in opposition to the sympathetic nervous system. It lowers arousal and returns the body to normal resting
conditions. We believe that the act of lying will cause the sympathetic nervous system to increase arousal
resulting in higher skin conductivity and therefore larger changes in GSR. As a result, we hypothesize that
lying will cause a larger mean change in GSR height then telling the truth.

One Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovich
The novel One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, follows the life of Ivan Denisovich Shukhov, a Stalinist
labor camp prisoner of the Soviet Union. The story only spends one day in Shukovs life in the camp, but
throughout this one day, Shukovs struggles and hardships in the camp are shown. This day is filled with his
daily struggles and chores, but to him, it ends up being a good day. Throughout the novel many themes are
shown. One major theme, in One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, is the battle for humanity and dignity.
There are many examples in the novel of the prisoner s dignity being taken away from them, yet they
somehow still manage to go on living their lives in the labor camps, with the little dignity they have left. In the
novel, Shukov and the other prisoners have little to no control over their own lives, which is ... Show more

not surprised when he is denied the day off of work. His dignity is affected, because he has no control over his
own life and even sickness cannot help him. No sympathy from the guards is shown to any of the prisoners in
the camp, this goes hand in hand with how Stalin shows no sympathy for anyone in the Soviet Union and it
represents the decay of individuality, during this time. No one had control over their own lives, in the novel,

). The amount of nutrient runoff is measured by measuring the number of dead zones , and zones which are
said to be eutrophied (Rabalais, 1528 HYPERLINK http://icesjms.oxfordjournals.org/content/66/7/1528.full ).
There are an estimated 169 dead zones and 415 coastal areas that suffer from eutrophication (Steiner, 25).
Several indicators of resilience are measurable. Biodiversity and indicators like thermal tolerance, dispersal
ability and adaptive capacity of a species indicate resilience and are measured in many different regions
(Bernhardt, 379). The productivity of an ecosystem is measured by measuring the primary productivity which
is monitored globally by using satellite ocean colour sensors and measuring the dissolved oxygen content of
water (Bernhardt, 381). There are several indicators of how sustainable the level of fishing is. The percentage
of mature fish indicates whether the rate of fishing is unsustainable. If the percentage of mature fish is low,
there is a large proportion of fish that are unable to mature, indicating overfishing (Froese, 87). This measure
is widely monitored in many coastal regions with large fishing industries. The amount of illegal, unreported
and unregulated fishing is measured globally and is known to be approximately 20% of the world s fish trade.

Scanning Electron Microscopy And Microscopy
1. SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPY
Scanning electron microscopy uses a focused beam of electrons to develop an image of the surface. Signal is
generated by the interaction of electrons with the surface, which are then detected and perceived to obtain
image and desired information related to the characteristics and topography.
1.1. WHY SEM USES ELECTRONS?
The resolution power of an eye is about 0.2 mm. However, utilizing a microscope magnify this resolution
power. The modern light microscope has a magnifying power of 1000x. The wavelength of the light used can
alter the resolving power of the microscope. Visible light as compared to an electronic beam can focus the
minute details of the surface. The signals that are derived from electron ample interaction displays information
about the physico chemical structure, crystalline morphology and orientation of the arrays of molecules that
make up the sample. A dimensional image is generated showing spatial changes in properties (1) .
Areas of around 1 to 5 microns can be imaged by using conventional SEM techniques with a magnifying
range from 20x to 30,000x. SEM precision to view can be analyzed by keeping in view a fact that it is cable of
analyzing a particular sample point. This methodology can be employed for quantitative determination. SEM
is advantageous over traditional microscopic technique. SEM has more deep investigational details as
compared to the conventional characterization techniques. SEM has much higher resolution

Kinetic Energy Lab Report
Speed, height, and mass do affect kinetic energy. In our lab work, we had to do multiple tests by dropping a
can onto a clay ball. We wrote down our data to prove that speed, height, and mass affect kinetic energy. This
is the lab data explained.
In our first lab, we had to drop different masses of cans from a height onto a 3cm clay ball and see how much
it got squished. Our data consisted of dropping a 418g, 227g, 624g, and 425g can from 30cm to a clay ball.
For example, with a 418g can, the ball was squished down to 2.7cm while a 227g can squished a ball down to
2.9cm. This shows that the larger mass of the can, the more the clay got squashed, so the more mass the object
is, the more kinetic energy takes place.

A resilient female fighter leads a mission of peace, but her quest becomes a pursuit of revenge against a

STORY COMMENTS
TERRATOO: RETURN TO EARTH (version 6) is a sci fi, action thriller that explores the moral argument
about man s nature for war over man s desire for peace. This is exactly what the heroine is forced to confront.
She s a woman of peace, but her life is turned upside down when she has to declare war on a worthy
adversary.
Solid themes about destiny, revenge, and freedom drive the plot, as well as saving humanity.
The highlight of the story is the presences of two resilient females that go up against each other. One
represents noble and virtuous forces, while the other one represents evil.
It s invigorating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of him killing Angelique s mother makes him deadly and ruthless, but the dialogue hinders the scene.
The idea of Chris attempting to open the Joriah program and later he does, unfortunately really doesn t engage
the audience. The audience, who doesn t know the twist, doesn t really understand what he s doing.
One assumes this is how he learns about Beth, but one has to ask what is the purpose of Chris knowing if
nothing becomes of it. If it were the enemy who came upon the origins of her birth and then used it against her
one could see a possible reason for a scene like this. Chris knowing and not telling her actually in some ways
brings up more questions than answers. Either his snooping around and unlocking the program should have a
payoff, or it should be cut.
One way to make this a payoff is for Chris to blurt the truth out to Beth vs. Joriah. Beth doesn t believe him
and goes to Joriah who finally tells Beth the truth. This could add conflict for Chris and Beth. She could also
question why Chris cares for her is it because she s different.

Political Rhetoric
How Form Highlights Lack of Logic in Political Rhetoric next to of course god america i, a poem by E.E
Cummings is a political speech written in the form of a sonnet. The last line of the poem, He spoke. And
drank rapidly a glass of water signifies to the reader that the first thirteen lines of the poem which is in
quotation marks is a speech given to an audience. The poem is filled with patriotic songs in the first and
second quatrain that echo common political rhetoric. The lines of the poem demonstrate poor command of
language, which contradicts the expectations for a political speech, which is expected to be intelligent and
written or spoken in proper and formal language. The poem has empty exclamatory words and uses metaphors

The politician in this poem is ignorant of his language. Cummings arrangement highlights a common attribute
of politicians. Their address to the public usually has no meaning, makes no logical sense and is filled with
empty words like those used by the speaker in this poem. Cummings attracts the reader s attention to this
political situation by the gap in the last line of the poem, He spoke. And drank a glass of water. He spoke is a
complete sentence and the only place in the poem with punctuation. The completeness of the sentence creates
a space between it and the continuation of the line, And drank rapidly a glass of water. The gap here makes the
reader think about what He says. It becomes more apparent to the reader that the speaker does not
communicate any message. The speaker does not inform the audience but only tries to stir them up
emotionally through his recital of common patriotic

The Good In Everyone and The Example of Anne Frank
Anne Frank was a young girl who lived during the holocaust who lived during Hitler s reign in Amsterdam.
Only one problem: She was Jewish. In July of 1942, Margot Frank was called to report to a concentration
camp. The Franks were forced into hiding in an annex behind Mr. Frank s business. The Franks, along with
the Van Pels and Mr. Pfeffer, hid in the annex for about two years. During her time in hiding, Anne confided in
a diary. In her diary, she wrote Despite everything, I believe people are really good at heart. I agree with Anne.
In my opinion, everyone is good at heart; they just show it in different ways. People do what they think is
right. Even though there is evil in the world, I believe that deep down, everyone is good at heart. Anne Frank
believed everyone was good at heart, despite what was happening to her. I believe that everyone has good in
their hearts; they just have different ways of showing it. The Nazi s were considered evil by most Jews. Yet, in
the movie Anne Frank, the soldier gave Mr. Frank extra time to pack because he saw that Mr. Frank was also a
soldier. This shows he has good in his heart, at least in my opinion. Even though he is a Nazi, who are
supposed to despise Jews, he was kind to Mr. Frank. Take a look at Miep Gies. She hid her friends to try and
save them, jeopardizing her own freedom for others. In Miep Gies: A Dangerous Secret, it says But every day

The Lottery Summary
In the story The Lottery , it s tradition, every year on June 27th to have the head of each household choose a
slip of paper from the black box. The family whose head of household chooses the coal marked slip of paper
picks again. The person in the houshold who picks the paper with the coal mark is stoned to death by everyone
in the village. As I read the story I examined the characters and how they felt about this tradition. At the start
of the story, the author, Shirley Jackson, explains how the people in the village prepared for the lottery and
how people gathered to the town square for the event. At this point none of the characters acted like something
horrible was about to happen. They were casual. Then the author went on to explain how the lottery worked,
leaving out details about the prize. While also advancing the plot to the lottery s commencement. As the story
moved forward the mood got more tense and suspenseful. While names were being called Jackson explained
how the villagers started to get more nervous while choosing out of the box. It seems like they were trying to
hide how anxious they were actually feeling. After everyone had chosen, it was the Hutchinsons. They had to
pick again. Tessie Hutchinson chose the coal marked paper. She started to object the tradition, once it was her
who was going to die that day due to the lottery. In lines 15 21, the story explains how the children start
collecting rocks, for what we dont know, the lottery. The author does not make it clear to us that someone is
going to die. The characters act like this is a normal thing. Another example, lines 25 37. No one is having
second thoughts or protesting.
They are assembling in the town square. Soon the men began to gather... speaking of planting and rain,
tractors and taxes. There are normal conversations among the villagers being held. Mrs. Hutchinson ends up
being late, she walks in very calmly. She even makes a joke, Wouldn t have me leave m dishes in the sink,
now, would you, Joe. The mystery of what this lottery really is persists throughout the story. As the story
continued, you can tell that there s something odd about this lottery. most of them were quiet, wetting their
lips, not looking around. .

A fragment of DNA was then amplified using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) with a forward primer and a
reverse primer. PCR is a technique used to make as many copies as possible of a specific section of the DNA
extracted. The five necessities for PCR to be successful is the DNA template that one wants to copy, a buffer,
nucleotides (ATCG), polymerase, and primers. PCR occurs in 3 stages: (1) Denaturing, (2) Annealing, and (3)
Extending. During the Denaturing stage, the stand containing the DNA template (in this case the fetus ) is
heated to separate the double stranded DNA. Next during the Annealing stage, the stand is then cooled to
allow the primers to attach to a specific location on the single stranded DNA template (primers are usually 20
to 30 bases long). Lastly during the Extending stage, the stand s temperature is increased to permit the making
of new DNA by a specific DNA polymerase. The result is multiple new strands of DNA that has been
successfully copied (What is PCR, WEB), followed by electrophoresis in 1% agarose gel. Electrophoresis is a
technique commonly used to separate DNA, RNA, and proteins according to their sizes. The result was then
purified with a PCR purification kit (removing any remaining DNTPs, or nucleotides that could result in
contamination). The products were

Neuron Synthesis
The papers Integrating the molecular and cellular basis of odor coding in the Drosophila antenna and The
receptors and coding logic for bitter taste try to understand how sensory neurons interacting with chemicals
produce the sensation of smell or taste in the brain. With chemosensation, a chemical molecule binds to a
receptor neuron, where transduction occurs. An action potential can be generated which can travel along
interneurons until it reaches the brain, which can process the information and perceive a specific smell or
taste. While all the steps from reception to perception are important, both papers focus on receptor neurons
and their role in chemosensation. Integrating the molecular and cellular basis of odor coding in the Drosophila
antenna looks at mapping the olfactory system using Drosophila as a model organism. Or genes encode
olfactory receptor neurons (ORNs) which map to a neuron class. The neuron projects to a specific glomerulus,
and the signal eventually gets to the brain. This paper demonstrates three methods of mapping a receptor to a
neuron and odor and uses them to show that Or22a receptor maps to the ab3A neuron and that Or47a receptor
maps to the ab5B neuron. Dobritsa et al. also found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

axonal pathfinding of ORNs to glomeruli occur at different life cycle stages and that the number of ORNs in

from these papers can be extended to humans as well as other sensory

The Double Complications Of Explorary Protocols
A minor critique concerning the model is the double representation of the total population size in the set of
explanatory variables, namely individually and included in the CINC measure. This multicollinearity can lead
to biased estimators of the dependent variable. A similar analysis is dealing with the question whether the
content of various human rights conventions and the costs associated with their ratification will influence state
s decision to join the treaty in the first place (Cole, 2005, p. 472) .On the one hand, associated costs are the
costs occurring with harmonizing policies and practices with the treaty provisions. On the other hand, there
are the reputation costs occurring in the case the terms of the treaty are violated ... Show more content on

This holds true especially for new democracies as these often maintain some dubious human right practices at
the beginning of their transformation. Furthermore, a strong civil society, measured in its citizens membership
in international nongovernmental organizations (INGOs), has a negative effect on the ratification of covenants
with strong enforcement mechanisms. This follows logically from INGOs role as monitors of human rights
treaties and their thrive to hold to account the violators. If the INGOs are more embedded within a country, it
is easier for them to detect potential violations; this is anticipated by the state and consequently the rate of
ratification decreases (pp. 490, 491). Considering the Clash of civilization approach, the analysis renders no
support. Communist regimes were just as likely as democracies to participate in both human rights treaties,
namely the political and economic rights covenants (p. 492). The question posed in the article s title, whether
states relinquish their sovereignty by joining such treaties, can be answered with no. Participation is voluntary.
Therefore, rational states will only sign treaties with which they would comply anyways and which do not
impose additional cost on them. Hence, further research should rather focus on potential legitimacy costs
arising from not signing such treaties (p. 492). Regarding the reputation costs resulting from violating the
treaties terms, literature does not reach consensus.

Fatty Acid Composition Of Adipose Tissue And Colorectal...
Fatty acid composition of adipose tissue and colorectal cancer: a case control study
Colorectal cancer is considered as the third most common cancers worldwide that usually leads to the death of
the patient. Studies have proved that lifestyle factors great influence the development and spread of cancer.
Modifying the lifestyle can reduce the risk of getting colorectal cancer by 70%. It is noted that more
consumption of red and processed meat increase the risk of developing colorectal cancer. However, high
intake of dietary fibers decreases it. On the contrary epidemiologic studies that connect the fat intake with
colorectal cancer are varying and unreliable. The concentrations of fatty acids in human serum and in the
membranes of red blood cells depict the intake of previous days or weeks. Conversely, the fatty acid
concentration in the adipose tissue truly show the habitual dietary intake in the previous two to three years.
Hence, various studies that aim to explore the correlation between the concentration of fatty acids and cancer
risk use adipose tissue in this request.
The case study discussed in this paper is conducted in Five University hospitals located in Northeastern
France (Cottet and others 2015). Subcutaneous adipose tissue samples were acquired from the surgery
departments through surgeons. The samples belonged to the patients who were admitted for elective
abdominal surgery. These patients were recently diagnosed of primary colorectal cancer.

How Does Temperature Effect Earthworms?
Introduction
When one thinks of earthworms usually one thinks about slimy and nasty creatures that are only used for
fishing. Wrong! If there were no worms on earth, farms and many plants could not be properly maintained.
This paper will explain how important earthworms are to the earth and to our environment. In addition, this
paper will cover the origin of an earthworm, the anatomy and other important characteristics. Origin The
origin of earthworms were said to be on earth around 200 millions ago. Their ancestors were marine worms,

Earthworms slowly bring soil to the surface and cover objects on the ground. This is one reason why
archaeologists have to dig down underneath the ground to find fossils. Night crawlers burrows can go as far as
15 feet underground. Night crawlers have something that no other animal has. They have five pairs of hearts.
The hearts pump blood with the earthworm s muscular contractions. Only two main blood vessels make up the
earthworms body. The ventral blood vessel sends blood to the rear end of the worm. The dorsal vessels pumps
blood to the front end of the body and blood travels through the ventral vessels into the capillaries on the body
wall and the many other organs. Anatomy The body of the earthworms is considered slimy and weird.
Earthworm s body contains 80% water and 70% protein. Fat makes up anywhere from 1 to 17 percent. The
body divided into 100 segments. These segments contain a pair of metanephridia, which drain the adjacent
anterior segments. The bristles help the earthworm hold its ground when trying to be pulled from its burrow.
For instance, a bird pulls off 6 to 7 segments; therefore new segments will grow back. Earthworms are
invertebrates, which mean they have no backbone. The mucus on the body helps the worm travel through their
burrow smoothly. As the earthworm travels underground the mucus holds the dirt from collapsing on the
worm.

Communist Manifesto Social Class
The first part of the Communist Manifesto focuses on the bourgeoisie and the proletariats. Throughout the text
Marx focuses on the divide between the two classes, and the impact it had on society. Marx the history all
hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles. Before the bourgeoisie rose to power, Feudal society
was the dominant social system in which the upper class provided land and protection for the working class.
Eventually the feudal society could not keep up with the growing demand of the market and the bourgeoisie
arose from the remnants of the feudal society. As the bourgeoisie rise to power this divide of the social class
was known as the oppressor vs the oppressed.

Marx points out that the laborers life is to merely increase capital, and is allowed to live only in so far as the
interest of the ruling class. The more bourgeoisie exploited the proletariats for work, the wealthier the
bourgeoisie became, thus reaping the benefits of the proletariats.
The bourgeoisie society was unlike many in the past. They held onto this facade of capitalism, economic
wealth and means of production. Individuality, family, and property were still prevalent among the
proletariats, but were suppressed by the bourgeoisie. The bourgeoisie were considered the ruling class, and
tore apart the family sentiment focusing on money, stripped the proletariats of their individuality, and owned
all of the factories and industries. Although they prided themselves on being a wealthy social class, their
means of production and wealth relied heavily on the labor of the proletariats. Marx criticized that the
proletariats want to fight against the bourgeoisie, to save from extinction their existence. The proletariats came
to realization that under the rule of the bourgeoisie they would only be viewed as a machine in means of
production. If the bourgeoisie continued to obtain power and create more capital, there would always be class
struggle and conflict, history all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles. Marx pointed out
that what the bourgeoisie therefore

opportunity to speak, act and pursue happiness without having any restrictions forced upon us. In Kurt

American culture, like it has been for generations. But now in this futuristic society depicted by Vonnegut,
enforcing the law that makes those who are above normal equal to those who are normal has become one of
the main priorities. In this society, all living people are equal in every which way. This type of equality is only
focused on altering beauty, strength and intelligence instead of concentrating on the main problems of race,
religion, and sex, the true issues we face as a society. Although many people believe total equality is
something that we should all strive for, it is just a misguided goal that is both dangerous in execution and
outcome. To accomplish physical and mental equality among all Americans, the government forces its citizens

Francisco De Goya Black Paintings
Francisco de Goya s Pinturas negras, or Black Paintings, are some of the most grotesque and unsettling
images in art history, with one painting in particular, Saturno devorando a su hijo, or Saturn Devouring One of
His Sons, standing out the most amongst them all. With his wildly staring eyes, gaping mouth and half eaten
son in his hands, it makes one wonder what would drive an artist to create an image like this. Goya, however,
was not uneducated in the horrors of the world, witnessing the travesties of the Peninsular War, the atrocities
of the Spanish Inquisition, surviving two life threatening illnesses, with one leaving him completely deaf, and
the death of six of his seven children. Perhaps it was one of these instances in particular that encouraged him
to conceiving this disconcerting figure, or perhaps it was a combination of the three.
At the beginning of Goya s career, in 1777, he was commissioned to create a series of tapestry cartoons from
the Royal Tapestry Factory, designing some 42 patterns over five years. Some of his more popular paintings
were originally tapestry cartoons such as The Parasol. His use of the popular Rococo style, brought him to the
attention of the aristocracy of Spain. In 1789, he was appointed to court painter to Charles IV and then the
following year, he became First Court Painter. His portraits of the king, queen and royal family, were anything

Tax Vs Flat Tax
Life would be so much simpler if taxes were a flat percentage for all income levels, with maybe a few
exceptions for the lowest income levels. A flat tax system is a very simplified version of our current
progressive tax system. One with no itemized deductions or credits, and increased personal exemption
amounts.
To increase savings and investments, the following types of income would be taxed at reduced rates, by
allowing a 50% deduction, qualified interest and dividend income, long term capital gains, and retirement and
Social Security. We could take the social engineering out of our system; stop catering to the special interest
groups, and make the system fair, simple, and easy to administer for everyone who wants to pay his fair share.

A flat tax is a single rate that covers all income brackets of taxpayers, rather than the current progressive
system, in which taxes higher income individuals at increased rates and includes numerous deductions and
exemptions. Under A 9% plan, Americans would pay a flat 9 percent rate on their personal incomes, corporate
incomes, and on sales. Another option would be a Cut, Balance and Grow system that would give taxpayers
the choice to opt out of the current system and pay 20 percent on individual income and allow for a few of the
deductions in the current code. Proponents of the flat tax argue that it would simplify the tax code while
broadening the tax base. Opponents say the flat tax would shift much of the revenue burden to middle and low

to read thus this far. It was definitely a wise decision to go ahead and read the two articles discussing
fundamentalism to catch me up so that I did not have trouble keeping up with Fosdick s movement that he
established in his sermon. Initially, I believe that the arising church is, amongst other things, is a rectifying of
liberalism for a postmodern age. And I m convinced that the same claims made by Fosdick in 1922 are just

  • 2. Music And Its Effect On Life Music, a vocal or instrumental sound (sometimes both) combined in a way that produces beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion or some might say the art or skills of creating or performing a piece. A favorite song is probably your favorite because it is associated with an emotional event in your life (Music). Over the years, music has drastically altered and has become very different from what it used to be. There was once a purpose, but as time progressed, it is sad to say the importance or significance is basically gone. Music is said to have begun during the time of the cavemen it was the grunts, groans, and whines that created the soul sound that would eventually become something so beautiful and unique. They began by hitting rocks and logs and soon after language was formed, and their voices became one with the instruments (N.A.). Now within each time period, music made more of an impact and established a distinctive sound. From Medieval to Renaissance, to the Baroque, Classical and the Romantic period each individual time span brought more to the meaning of what music really is. An emotional connection that could change a person mood in an instant. A sound that allowed anyone to connect with not only the words but also the instruments as well. As music evolved during the 1900 s more genres were created, for example, ragtime, big band, jazz, blues, hip hop, etc. (N.A., Music History). Now today s compositions tend to bring out the worst in this particular ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Yes, I think the American Revolution was necessary and it was inevitable because of the continuing tension and problems between the colonists and the British, the Revolution would have eventually happened. As the thirteen British colonies formed and developed, King George was sitting atop his throne with a grin. The profit that would come out of these territories would surely be an immense benefit for Britain for many years to come. Then, in the early 1600 s, the king certainly did not realize the sense of separation the new colonists would feel being so far away from Britain. The longer they were apart, the more they experienced what life without Britain was like According to the dictionary, Salutary Neglect refers to the seventeenth and eighteenth century British Crown policy of avoiding strict enforcement of parliamentary laws meant to keep American colonies obedient to England. And that is what it initially was Britain putting the colonies on cruise control or autopilot. But what Britain didn t know was that once the colonies tasted freedom, it would be really hard to take it back from them, which can be seen through the American Revolution...So the colonists were angry when salutary neglect ended because Britain was monitoring everything they were doing. They were no longer allowed to conduct their assembly town meetings and their trade with other countries was strictly regulated. The end of salutary neglect was what ... • 4. Near Ascetic Hermits In Tohoku SANSUI 2014,film A myth that dwells within Tohoku. Mountain of the sun, and mountain of the moon. Beauty that transcends its ascetic practices. SANSUI drew its first breath when the artist visited the Tohoku Region of Japan. The artist determined the fabuleux pilgrimage route of the lost mountain worship by interacting with mountain ascetic hermits and hi own research. By bridging the two brutal mountains of the North in mid winter ーthe mountain of the sun (Mount Choukai) and the mountain of the moon (Mount Gassan) ー with a straight line upon a map, he captured the whirl circulation of the rivers and the waterfalls as a riverine system, forests, earth and sky on exquisite film. These footages attained through near ascetic physical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (The artist states that this is the reason he chose to film its ambience with his own hands.) Kangawa s ability to present reality in an abstract fashion differs from the generic archived videos; he replicates the experience by including not only the location but also the tension evoked within the air the use of the 6K camera serves as a medium that conduced to the aesthetic of this piece. While I know you re concerned with the letters and numbers, rest assure that these are about as insightful as an Instagram photo. My first semester of freshman year, for the most part, went by without much of a hiccup. I was able to coast by with the same mindset towards learning I carried in high school, and I finished with a 3.30 GPA. Afterward, my second semester was what lead me to buckle down. I realized that I would need to dedicate my time outside of the classroom to studying and comprehending the material. My classes were going to become harder, each assignment more crucial, and my time more valuable. Thus, about midway through the semester, I was building better habits with studying and learning in general. Keep in mind that at this point; I was still adapting to the routine of a college curriculum. Even though I adopted a serious attitude towards each of my classes, there was still something working against my favor. Looking back now, I realize that I had been enrolled in more credit hours than, perhaps, what I could handle. The increase was only one extra credit hour (16 to 17) which came from a chemistry lab that I needed to take as a science. But, considering that I went from taking all 100 level classes to 200 level classes, including a 300 level class, the extra credit hour was enough to stretch my workload. Plus, we had a lab report due almost every week, which is more than what you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Cesar Chavez Struggle In The Fields Analysis SSCI 100 Assignment #2 The Struggle in the Fields has always been a controversial issue. In the PBS series, we get to learn how many obstacles came along, when many Filipino farm workers along with Mexican American workers began to demand a change in the fields. The struggle in the fields was a movement that was primarily started as a strike in 1965 by Filipino farm workers in Coachella, California than it was led by Cesar Chavez throughout the central valley, they demanded better working conditions from the Growers. Many Mexican American farm workers in Delano, California started to walk off the fields, refusing to pick grapes until the demands they had were heard. Their faith allowed them to feel stronger when the movement was taking place, it allowed them to fight in several different ways. The movement was already in the fifth month and they had not seen any type of change, this was when Cesar Chavez decided to start a peregrinacion to Sacramento. His goal was to recruit or inspire as many people so they could join the movement and have a louder voice. This brought an opportunity to take their voices all around the San Joaquin valley, they saw the valley as a place that had been full of limitations for them and the peregrinacion made the limitations disappear, they were able to surpass those walls, and as they walked throughout many towns more and more people became sympathetic to their cause and joined them on this journey. When they were on the peregrinacion their mornings began with the faith they had held they went to mass, after they would begin to walk to the next town, following a sacred image of La Virgen de Guadalupe it gave them hope. His nonviolence policy also had a lot to give to the movement, as years pass many of the farm workers became frustrated at the fact that they had not seen any changes, they began to talk about using violence against the growers, this was when Cesar Chavez began to worry about the things they could do, and he took matters into his own hands. • 7. Beowulf as an Epic Hero Beowulf as an epic hero Beowulf is a poem that was written in Anglo Saxon, between 700 and 1000 A.D., and is probably one of the most important works of Anglo Saxon literature. It tells the story of the heroic acts in the life of our protagonist, Beowulf. It takes place in Scandinavia (Denmark and Sweden precisely), around 500 A.D. Beowulf is a hero of the Geats who arrives in Denmark from Geatland to help the king of the Danes, Hrothgar. Hrothgar enjoyed a successful and prosperous reign: he built a great mead hall, called Heorot, which mere purpose was to serve as a place where warriors could gather to drink, tell stories and enjoy the songs of the scops or bards. But, these gatherings were quite loud and jubilant, and they had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The definition of a hero implied facing the impossible with only courage and strength, and even if that resulted in his death, he would consider it a most honourable way to die. After he wins the fight against Grendel, he has the option to stay back while Grendel s mother tries to avenge him. But Beowulf was a great warrior, and he knew that if Grendel s mother wanted someone to pay for her son s death, it must be him, the one who killed Grendel in the first place. However, he doesn t go to her lake just to let her have her revenge; he is determined to free Denmark from the horrifying monsters: first Grendel, and now his mother. Another key factor in his decision is the fact that Grendel s mother kills Aeschere, a man of Hrothgar s. But this is not all of Beowulf s greatness as a hero. He was a loyal warrior, never betraying or letting down his lord, Hygelac. Even after Hygelac s death, he showed loyalty and respect to both his king and the throne, and supported the son of Hygelac in becoming the new king of the Geats. However, after a while, Hygelac s son died, and Beowulf became the new king. His reign brought peace and prosperity to Geatland, and this lasted for fifty years, until one day, a dragon was awoken and threatened to burn down the country. Even though he was not the same young and strong warrior anymore, Beowulf was still brave. This shows another phase of Beowulf s life: in his youth, he was a warrior ... Most counselors use a specific theory when working with their diverse clients. Understanding and applying the appropriate therapy for each unique client in the counseling session is imperative. Common theories include, person centered therapy, solution focused therapy, Adlerian therapy, and cognitive behavior therapy. These theories can be applied when counseling, however they do have their limitations. Specifically, Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) contains methods that can be used with all age groups because of its broad techniques such as, exception questions, the miracle question, and scaling questions. This theory can be especially helpful when working with college students. Solution focused brief therapy (SFBT) has been in development since the early 1980 s, and has been described as a postmodern solution talk approach. Steve De Shazar and Insoo Kim Berg developed SFBT at the Brief Family Therapy Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. To Kill A Mockingbird Dystopian Essay The Oxford English Dictionary defines dystopia as an imagined place or state in which everything is unpleasant or bad, typically a totalitarian or environmentally degraded one. The novel To Kill a Mockingbird is a sad novel with mystery and excitement. There is prejudice against black people, and little seems to be right. One may wonder if the book meets the standards of a dystopian novel. The book overall does not meet the qualifications of a dystopian novel for many reasons. To start, the first reason that To Kill a Mockingbird is not a dystopian novel is its setting. A dystopian novel usually has a futuristic science fiction setting. The novel is set in the tired old town of Maycomb, Alabama during the 1930 s (Lee 5). There are no advanced technological advancements; it is a plain simple town. Macomb, while it is fictional, is very realistic. To Kill a Mockingbird does not match the setting of a typical dystopian novel like Fahrenheit 451 and Hunger Games. Many of the challenges to law s claim of impartiality concern the influence of social characteristics such as race or sex when they should be irrelevant. Marc Galanter introduces a more structural argument, related to the frequency with which one litigates, bringing disputes before a court. Galanter claims that those who regularly engage in similar litigation, whom he labels repeat players (RPs) have multiple advantages over one shotters (OSs), who rarely enter the forum of law, where courts interpret and apply official rules to settle disputes, in their ability to achieve desired legal outcomes. Though not all repeat players are necessarily society s haves some of the residents of the urban neighborhood studied by Sally Engle Merry are examples of exceptions in American society, most are. One often thinks of haves and have nots in terms of material differences, but where Galanter adds the most value to the discussion of inequality is his explanation of the more dynamic advantages that come from more frequent legal engagement and which continually reinforce this inequality. Part of Galanter s project in identifying the mechanism behind systematic biases in the courts is his desire to prescribe potential avenues for reform. It is not only important to recognize that the haves come out ahead but also why they do. Though he does discuss tangible differences in resources, including access to specialized knowledge, those factors alone can miss the less tangible benefits that certain parties enjoy. For example, due to their ongoing contact with the court, RPs uniquely have the opportunity to become more embedded in the community of legal actors and build social capital through these informal relationships. Though Eisenstein, Flemming, and Nardulli specifically study county criminal courts in their study, their observations of the unique cultures of court communities can extend to the forum of law more broadly. They note that membership in such a community allows for trust to be established and credit to be built. In the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Effect Of Lying Had On Nervous System By Monitoring... Introduction: During this study we assessed the effect lying had on the autonomic nervous system by monitoring galvanic skin response (GSR). We used GSR, a measure of the skin conductivity, as a very basic form of polygraph test. The electronic conductivity of skin in not held constant. Instead, it changes based on the current state of the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS is comprised of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system (Gazzaniga and Heatherton, 2015). The sympathetic branch causes increases in arousal. It controls responses such as pupil dilation, increased heart rate, and decreased digestive activity that are normally associated with the fight or flight response (Gazzaniga and Heatherton, 2015). The parasympathetic branch acts in opposition to the sympathetic nervous system. It lowers arousal and returns the body to normal resting conditions. We believe that the act of lying will cause the sympathetic nervous system to increase arousal resulting in higher skin conductivity and therefore larger changes in GSR. As a result, we hypothesize that lying will cause a larger mean change in GSR height then telling the truth. Signal is generated by the interaction of electrons with the surface, which are then detected and perceived to obtain image and desired information related to the characteristics and topography. 1.1. WHY SEM USES ELECTRONS? The resolution power of an eye is about 0.2 mm. However, utilizing a microscope magnify this resolution power. The modern light microscope has a magnifying power of 1000x. The wavelength of the light used can alter the resolving power of the microscope. Visible light as compared to an electronic beam can focus the minute details of the surface. The signals that are derived from electron ample interaction displays information about the physico chemical structure, crystalline morphology and orientation of the arrays of molecules that make up the sample. A dimensional image is generated showing spatial changes in properties (1) . Areas of around 1 to 5 microns can be imaged by using conventional SEM techniques with a magnifying range from 20x to 30,000x. SEM precision to view can be analyzed by keeping in view a fact that it is cable of analyzing a particular sample point. This methodology can be employed for quantitative determination. The family whose head of household chooses the coal marked slip of paper picks again. The person in the houshold who picks the paper with the coal mark is stoned to death by everyone in the village. As I read the story I examined the characters and how they felt about this tradition. At the start of the story, the author, Shirley Jackson, explains how the people in the village prepared for the lottery and how people gathered to the town square for the event. At this point none of the characters acted like something horrible was about to happen. They were casual. Then the author went on to explain how the lottery worked, leaving out details about the prize. While also advancing the plot to the lottery s commencement. As the story moved forward the mood got more tense and suspenseful. While names were being called Jackson explained how the villagers started to get more nervous while choosing out of the box. It seems like they were trying to hide how anxious they were actually feeling. After everyone had chosen, it was the Hutchinsons. They had to pick again. Tessie Hutchinson chose the coal marked paper. She started to object the tradition, once it was her who was going to die that day due to the lottery. In lines 15 21, the story explains how the children start collecting rocks, for what we dont know, the lottery. The author does not make it clear to us that someone is going to die. A fragment of DNA was then amplified using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) with a forward primer and a reverse primer. PCR is a technique used to make as many copies as possible of a specific section of the DNA extracted. The five necessities for PCR to be successful is the DNA template that one wants to copy, a buffer, nucleotides (ATCG), polymerase, and primers. PCR occurs in 3 stages: (1) Denaturing, (2) Annealing, and (3) Extending. During the Denaturing stage, the stand containing the DNA template (in this case the fetus ) is heated to separate the double stranded DNA. Next during the Annealing stage, the stand is then cooled to allow the primers to attach to a specific location on the single stranded DNA template (primers are usually 20 to 30 bases long). Lastly during the Extending stage, the stand s temperature is increased to permit the making of new DNA by a specific DNA polymerase. The result is multiple new strands of DNA that has been successfully copied (What is PCR, WEB), followed by electrophoresis in 1% agarose gel. Electrophoresis is a technique commonly used to separate DNA, RNA, and proteins according to their sizes. The result was then purified with a PCR purification kit (removing any remaining DNTPs, or nucleotides that could result in contamination). The products were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Neuron Synthesis The papers Integrating the molecular and cellular basis of odor coding in the Drosophila antenna and The receptors and coding logic for bitter taste try to understand how sensory neurons interacting with chemicals produce the sensation of smell or taste in the brain. With chemosensation, a chemical molecule binds to a receptor neuron, where transduction occurs. An action potential can be generated which can travel along interneurons until it reaches the brain, which can process the information and perceive a specific smell or taste. While all the steps from reception to perception are important, both papers focus on receptor neurons and their role in chemosensation. Integrating the molecular and cellular basis of odor coding in the Drosophila antenna looks at mapping the olfactory system using Drosophila as a model organism. Or genes encode olfactory receptor neurons (ORNs) which map to a neuron class. The neuron projects to a specific glomerulus, and the signal eventually gets to the brain. This paper demonstrates three methods of mapping a receptor to a neuron and odor and uses them to show that Or22a receptor maps to the ab3A neuron and that Or47a receptor maps to the ab5B neuron. This multicollinearity can lead to biased estimators of the dependent variable. A similar analysis is dealing with the question whether the content of various human rights conventions and the costs associated with their ratification will influence state s decision to join the treaty in the first place (Cole, 2005, p. 472) .On the one hand, associated costs are the costs occurring with harmonizing policies and practices with the treaty provisions. This holds true especially for new democracies as these often maintain some dubious human right practices at the beginning of their transformation. Furthermore, a strong civil society, measured in its citizens membership in international nongovernmental organizations (INGOs), has a negative effect on the ratification of covenants with strong enforcement mechanisms. This follows logically from INGOs role as monitors of human rights treaties and their thrive to hold to account the violators. If the INGOs are more embedded within a country, it is easier for them to detect potential violations; this is anticipated by the state and consequently the rate of ratification decreases (pp. 490, 491). Considering the Clash of civilization approach, the analysis renders no support. Communist regimes were just as likely as democracies to participate in both human rights treaties, namely the political and economic rights covenants (p. 492). The question posed in the article s title, whether states relinquish their sovereignty by joining such treaties, can be answered with no. Participation is voluntary. Therefore, rational states will only sign treaties with which they would comply anyways and which do not impose additional cost on them. Hence, further research should rather focus on potential legitimacy costs arising from not signing such treaties (p. 492). Regarding the reputation costs resulting from violating the treaties terms, literature does not reach consensus. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fatty acid composition of adipose tissue and colorectal cancer: a case control study Colorectal cancer is considered as the third most common cancers worldwide that usually leads to the death of the patient. Studies have proved that lifestyle factors great influence the development and spread of cancer. Modifying the lifestyle can reduce the risk of getting colorectal cancer by 70%. It is noted that more consumption of red and processed meat increase the risk of developing colorectal cancer. However, high intake of dietary fibers decreases it. On the contrary epidemiologic studies that connect the fat intake with colorectal cancer are varying and unreliable. The concentrations of fatty acids in human serum and in the membranes of red blood cells depict the intake of previous days or weeks. Conversely, the fatty acid concentration in the adipose tissue truly show the habitual dietary intake in the previous two to three years. Hence, various studies that aim to explore the correlation between the concentration of fatty acids and cancer risk use adipose tissue in this request. The case study discussed in this paper is conducted in Five University hospitals located in Northeastern France (Cottet and others 2015). This is one reason why archaeologists have to dig down underneath the ground to find fossils. Night crawlers burrows can go as far as 15 feet underground. Night crawlers have something that no other animal has. They have five pairs of hearts. The hearts pump blood with the earthworm s muscular contractions. Only two main blood vessels make up the earthworms body. The ventral blood vessel sends blood to the rear end of the worm. The dorsal vessels pumps blood to the front end of the body and blood travels through the ventral vessels into the capillaries on the body wall and the many other organs. Anatomy The body of the earthworms is considered slimy and weird. Earthworm s body contains 80% water and 70% protein. Fat makes up anywhere from 1 to 17 percent. The body divided into 100 segments. These segments contain a pair of metanephridia, which drain the adjacent anterior segments. The bristles help the earthworm hold its ground when trying to be pulled from its burrow. For instance, a bird pulls off 6 to 7 segments; therefore new segments will grow back. Earthworms are invertebrates, which mean they have no backbone. The mucus on the body helps the worm travel through their burrow smoothly. As the earthworm travels underground the mucus holds the dirt from collapsing on the worm. During the 1950s, Backenstoe taught leather crafts, copper enameling and ceramics to the girls. Eventually, she was named camp director and lived at Camp Mosey Wood during the summer (Negley). They held onto this facade of capitalism, economic wealth and means of production. Individuality, family, and property were still prevalent among the proletariats, but were suppressed by the bourgeoisie. The bourgeoisie were considered the ruling class, and tore apart the family sentiment focusing on money, stripped the proletariats of their individuality, and owned all of the factories and industries. Although they prided themselves on being a wealthy social class, their means of production and wealth relied heavily on the labor of the proletariats. Marx criticized that the proletariats want to fight against the bourgeoisie, to save from extinction their existence. Francisco De Goya Black Paintings Francisco de Goya s Pinturas negras, or Black Paintings, are some of the most grotesque and unsettling images in art history, with one painting in particular, Saturno devorando a su hijo, or Saturn Devouring One of His Sons, standing out the most amongst them all. With his wildly staring eyes, gaping mouth and half eaten son in his hands, it makes one wonder what would drive an artist to create an image like this. Goya, however, was not uneducated in the horrors of the world, witnessing the travesties of the Peninsular War, the atrocities of the Spanish Inquisition, surviving two life threatening illnesses, with one leaving him completely deaf, and the death of six of his seven children. Perhaps it was one of these instances in particular that encouraged him to conceiving this disconcerting figure, or perhaps it was a combination of the three. At the beginning of Goya s career, in 1777, he was commissioned to create a series of tapestry cartoons from the Royal Tapestry Factory, designing some 42 patterns over five years. Some of his more popular paintings were originally tapestry cartoons such as The Parasol. His use of the popular Rococo style, brought him to the attention of the aristocracy of Spain.
