A Procedure For Ear Exception
Ear Irrigation WHAT IS EAR IRRIGATION? Ear irrigation is a procedure to wash dirt and wax out
of your ear canal. It is also called lavage. You may need ear irrigation if you are having trouble
hearing because of a buildup of earwax. You may also have ear irrigation as part of treatment for
an ear infection. Getting wax and dirt out of your ear canal can help some medicines given as
ear drops work better. HOW IS EAR IRRIGATION PERFORMED? The procedure may vary
among health care providers and hospitals. You may be given ear drops to put in your ear 15 20
minutes before irrigation. This helps loosen the wax. Then, a syringe containing water and a sterile
salt solution (saline) can be gently inserted into the ear canal. The saline is used to

Morley Callaghan Symbols
Books are the foundation of diverse characters and themes, though are often overlooked; a reader
finds intrigue by the story rather than the meaning written between the lines of the written text. The
author works feverishly to bring these ideas forward through the variety of literary devices,
however the hard work put into the noveldoes not necessarily achieve recognition. The Loved and
the Lost by Morley Callaghan contains effective use of literary devices to develop the characters
morals, and their position in society concerning social status and societal isolation. The techniques
that author skillfully uses include flashback, dialogue and symbolism. Flashback works to
characterize and shape each character, while dialogue creates interactions... Show more content on

Callaghan excels in using symbolism with his knowledge on both society and the understanding
of what the images represent. Symbols work to break down a character and present their
opinions on society to gain a better understanding of what the individual believes in. Peggy
Sanderson is an advocate for change in the treatment of black culture and is constantly showing
her respect for the group that others oppress. A symbol that best describes Peggy s opinion is the
river, which flows around the city of Montreal. It was those who wanted a change who preferred
the broad flowing river (Callaghan 1), perfectly describing Peggy through the use of symbolism
in nature. Peggy wants to see change in the world and her strive for change is like a river that is
constantly flowing. Water in a river never stops and fresh water replaces it as it flows. Peggy
never stops respecting the African American culture and will always speak her mind on the
subject, despite what others believe. Similar to the river, the mountain is also an important piece
of symbolism in the text. Symbolism creates a representation of the societal mindset and the ways
by which a society works. Segregation in the text is more than common and the isolation between
groups is prominent. In Callaghan s work, the white culture is racist and oppresses the black
culture, remaining stuck in their oppressive ways. The belief that their ways should not change
describes Catherine Carver, a young woman who has a divorce and engages in a romantic
relationship with McAlpine. Catherine is the daughter of Mr. Carver, an aristocrat who is very set
in his ways and does not believe in change, which he passes down to his daughter. In contrast to the
river, the mountain represents Catherine and the overall white culture at the time. A mountain is
firm and never moves nor does it change, which is why those who wanted

How To Write A Santa Monica Essay
Santa Monica I remember when I first went to the beach for the first time, it was amazing. The
good vibes for everyone, how it was so sunny, and the soft smooth breezy that would come from
the ocean. Having such a huge, positive, impact with the different smells, taste, and many
sounds. To begin with, I ve been to many beaches, but the one that sticks out the most is Santa
Monica. You can be a few miles away from the beach and you can smell the salt water. When you
get closer to beach the smell gets stronger, like a pinch of green, seaweed. Getting closer we smell
the different type of food, hot dogs, cotton candy, funnel cakes, burgers. Many different type of
food making my mouth water, and my stomach growl. The pier being overcrowded, smelling the

couple, having a sweet conversation. So many commotion going on all around me, not knowing
what to do. We comunited to walk to the end, and you hear a loud fast swish sound, and people
screaming. As I look up I see a yellow and purple roller coaster, and a ferris wheel. Although, I ve
been to many different beaches, like I said, Santa Monica is always the one that sticks out the

Gettysburg Essay
Gettysburg
Living in close proximity to Gettysburg, I have spent many weekends of my childhood hiking
through the numerous acres of woods on Culp s Hill, climbing the gigantic boulders in Devil s Den,
and tramping through the marshes of Plum Run. Enjoying the scenic beauty is just the beginning as
to what Gettysburg has to offer. However, why is Gettysburg so important to us all as Americans?
What made this small town so famous that tens of thousands of tourists from all over the globe
come to walk through the many wheat fields in the surrounding countryside? While wandering
those same fields that Union and Confederate soldiers fought on some one hundred and forty years
ago, I asked myself why this place was so significant. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next question I asked Mr. Kise focused on why the victory at Gettysburg was so very pivotal
to the Union. In my own analysis of the battle, I did not expect the answer that I received from him.
He said that in his own personal opinion of what makes Gettysburg so important, is Lincoln s
speech four months after the battle (Kise). He goes on to explain that even though the Union Army
won a substantial victory at Gettysburg and helped to turn back the invading Confederate Army, it
was when Lincoln gave his Gettysburg Address that gave the battle meaning. Lincoln turned the
war from merely holding the Union together, to giving a new birth of freedom (Kise).
My next question for Mr. Kise is probably the most asked question of the battle of Gettysburg. I
wanted to know what would have occurred if the Confederacy had won the battle. Mr. Kise came
to the conclusion that Lee would have had to withdraw eventually due to the fact that he did not
have many supplies left and he had lost almost a third of his army (Kise). He also argues that the
North, with its superior transportation system, could have quickly brought up other troops (Kise).
In all, Mr. Kise felt that Gettysburg was indeed a key battle for the Union in that the Army of the
Potomac was victorious. However, there were other factors that made it such a key battle as

Objectifies Women By Jeremy Merkel Summary
This week the essay that made the largest impact on me was Marketing to Tweens Objectifies
Women by Jeremy Merkel. The claim is apparent that after reading the title that young girls are
being objectified by marketing. Merkel clearly dislikes the idea of marketing sexy clothes to
young girls and teens. As a mother to three girls I have kept my girls from these types of stores.
Which is easy to do when you live 280 miles from the nearest mall with any of the stores
mentioned in the article. The rules for my girls were and are they can were light colored eye

Analysis Of The Movie The Return Of Martin Guerre
The role of Bertrande de Rols in the film The Return of Martin Guerre is a firm representation of
the way in which women of this time subscribed to clear gender norms. She was a dutiful wife
who stayed behind while her husband went off to war and to travel the world. She was willing to
submit to him (or Arnaud, the man who ended up being an imposter of Martin) and settle down to
have children upon his return. And when it came time to stand up him, she played her role in that
process too (even though it wasn t her husband for whom she was initially testifying). She doesn t
have the leeway in which to create her own path in life, and seems to constantly bend to the whim
of others. Bertrande is the quintessential example of how women throughout history kept the home
fires burning while their men explored the world, and then were forced to take back whatever
iterations of their mates they got back (which in this case, wasn t even the same man).
To say that Bertrande was likely initially underwhelmed with Martin s return would be putting it
mildly. Historians that have studied this period in French history for women surmise that
Bertrande likely enjoyed the freedom of making her own decisions (Lewis 65). In fact, in her book
The Wife of Martin Guerre, author Janet Lewis envisages an existence for Bertrande that speaks to
just how much she likely enjoyed the freedom of being her own person when Martin first went
away. At the same time, she was clearly vilified for it. Of this,

Music of Robert Schumann as a New Stage in the Development...
Music of Robert Schumann as a New Stage in the Development of Romanticism
Music of Robert Schumann embodies many of the most characteristic features of German
Romanticism deep psychological insight, aspiration for the ideal, intimacy, irony and bitterness.
Advanced aesthetic tendencies of German culture in the period of 1820 40s found vivid expression
in his music. In contradictions, which are inherent in Schumann s music, reflected the complex
contradictions of the social life from his time. His music is filled with a restless, rebellious spirit
that puts him in the same line with Byron, Heine, Goethe, Wagner and others. However, the theme
of rebellion in the music of Schumann has a psychological, but very lyrical representation.
Compared to Heinrich Heine, Victor Hugo, and Ludwig Van Beethoven who viewed the world
through the prism of social injustice, Schumann did not aim towards social revolt. The greatest part
of his diverse heritage was his personal confession in music. Schumann s piano music, for instance,
Kreisleriana, Op.16 and the Symphonic Etudes, op.13, are truly a musical encyclopedia of the
human soul with many nuances and tones, with shades of colors of joy, sorrow, anguish, doubt and
struggle, dreams and anxieties, rush, despair, faith and courage.
E.T.A. Hoffmann in his writing Dichtungen und Schriften defined genius as a person who is able to
touch us, to move us mightily, the artist himself must be deeply affected in his own heart. Effective

Arguments Against Ethical Relativism In The Bible
As you have essentially mentioned, because moral absolutes are true, ethical relativism is false.
Namely, the arguments against ethical relativism are weak. Primarily, your argument used the
Bible. As a Bible believer, I agree with your statements: the Bible argues for moral absolutes rather
than ethical relativism. For instance, the Ten Commandments are true for anyone and the God s
standards are absolute. However, anyone who is skeptical concerning the Bible would not view the
Scriptures as a credible source to argue against ethical relativism. Therefore, knowing and presenting
arguments that do not derive from the Bible would be beneficial. One beneficial method would be
scrutinizing two prime forms of ethical relativism: moral subjectivism and cultural relativism.
These two have shortcomings in their arguments. The former form, moral subjectivism, basically
argues that moralityis whatever one perceives, whereas the latter, cultural relativism, states that the
culture dictates morality for that culture. With the former, one who believes... Show more content on

This is absurd. In addition, subjective morality is inherently logically contradictory since, for
instance, if a person believes that subjective morality is immoral, subjective morality appears to be
immoral and not viable. An apparent stronger form of ethical relativism is cultural relativism since,
as Michael Scott Jones wrote, Cultural relativism is more metaphysical than is moral subjectivism,
which is more epistemological in nature. Therefore, in moral subjectivism, one merely perceives
morality, and in cultural relativism, the culture dictates the reality of morality. In spite of cultural
relativism providing a stronger form of ethical relativism than moral subjectivism, cultural
relativism ultimately fails. A weak argument for cultural relativism is that because a diverse
morality appears to exist in the world, cultural relativism must be true.

Data Security Policy For Ecommerce Payment Card Applications
Data Security Policy for ecommerce Payment Card Applications
This record depicts the IT Security and IT Services strategies and practices for overseeing IT
Services stage for University facilitated ecommerce, particularly installment card transactions, and
the information identified with ecommerce. This arrangement is proposed to consent to the
necessities of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard ( PCI DSS ). The PCI DSS is
incorporated by reference in this; be that as it may, IT Security will be the sole determinant of how
PCI DSS necessities will be connected inside IT Services operations. This report will be yearly
evaluated and upgraded as proper to keep up agreeability with the PCI DSS.
For the reasons of this report, the ecommerce base comprises of the processing assets (i.e., servers,
stockpiling, system and capacity switches, firewalls, physical racks containing these, and related
programming) that process, transmit, or store installment card information, or can straightforwardly
get to such assets. Servers that are a piece of the ecommerce foundation and any frameworks that
can generally specifically get to processing assets that contain installment cardholder information
must be enlisted as directed machines.

Jarvis: Good evening, Colonel. Can I give you a lift? Colonel James Rhodes: Very funny. (Ironman

These are extracts taken from the Marvel blockbuster movie Ironman. By the face of it they seem
as normal conversations taking place amongst three characters. However, in relation to the topic of
this paper, Jarvis will be the example that is being brought into attention. Jarvis is not a person,
rather it is a computer system with the ability to control any machine it is linked to. In fact the
name Jarvis is an acronym J.A.R.V.I.S that stands for Just A Rather Very Intelligent System.
Attention should be drawn to the fact that Jarvis; rather than simply shutting down, goes to sleep,
Tony Stark refers to him as a buddy, which is slang for friend and Jarvis has a sense of humor! This
exemplifies the level of human capacity that the computer has. In line with this, the movie IRobot
also explores a world where machine and robots are an everyday part of life until they decide to
rise against the humans.Now, one

According to Oxford dictionary, art is defined as the expression or application of human creative
skill and imagination, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional
power. Every item of clothing ever made had to have gone through a brainstorming, designing, or
drafting process that requires creativity and imagination. Although not all items of clothing are
appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power, the way one styles clothing can evoke
emotion. People have been using the clothes they wear and how they style their clothing to express
their individuality, personal mood, personality, and/or emotions. The Nike Air Force 1s from the

Essay On Ethnicity And Multiculturalism
The meaning of music and its value has evolved over the years of its birth. In the present world,
music is now interpreted and taken as one can imagine it. The idea and worth of music to an
individual or group can mean anything to them. There is no consistent meaning of music because
anyone can create their own meaning rather than following another s. Ethnicity on the other hand
has a solid definition. From the Oxford Concise Dictionary of Sociology, Ethnicity defines
individuals who consider themselves, or are considered by others, to share common characteristics
which differentiate them from the other collectives in a society within which they develop distinct
cultural behavior. (Marshall, 1994) Ethnicity in a sense is the idea and... Show more content on

I felt like there was no diversity when it came to the repertoire that the ensembles performed. I
bring this up because I grew up in an environment that is filled to the brim with different cultures
and backgrounds, but the music that the children learn only represents one group. I feel like the
town s music program could have been so much more but it fell stuck to traditions. By doing this,
children immediately become uninterested in music and dislike taking music classes and only a
handful of children stay within the program. Their only reason to take the class is to fill the
requirement then afterwards never take a music class again. In the end, the students have more
trouble finding their own identity, ethnically and musically. They had to explore the music for
themselves and find what they like.
I believe it is important to showcase all of the distinct genres and styles of music in a music
classroom because they are all important to whoever is listening and it helps show the students that
they should be proud of what they identify themselves as. It is disappointing to see such a great and
well funded music program such as South Brunswick Township to fall under traditions and norms,
and not further explore other music that can help students find themselves. It is vital to show
children different composers and artists that are like them and are more invested into and better
represent them

During the late 14th century until about the 16th century,...
During the late 14th century until about the 16th century, Italy and other European countries
underwent a time of rebirth of the Ancient Greek and Roman classics. This era was known as the
Renaissance. The citizens of Europe were surrounded by advancements in technology, music, and
culture. However, one of the most prevalent changes that is still in affect today is the newly
founded techniques in the arts. Artists began to think outside of the box, and they made some of
the best paintings of their time. They used different methods than artists from previous centuries
had, including classicism, secularism, humanism, and individualism. One of the greatest artists of

Perspective was important during the Italian Renaissance because it made artworks look more real
and three dimensional. Perspective was a technique in which an artist would use lines to establish a
foreground, middleground, and a background. In centuries past, many of the artists works would
look flat because they didn t use perspective. In the PietГЎ Mary looks farther away from the
audience than Jesus body does. At the same time, Jesus head takes a spot in the middleground of
the artwork. He is able to depict a Jesus foot to look like it is on top of or mixing with the dress
that Mary is wearing. This was important because in the past, many works of arts backgrounds
would all mix together to create a flat painting. In his sculpture, Michaelangelo uses perspective to
give a more realistic feeling to the artwork.
One of the most prominent developments in Michaelangelo s sculpture is his use of realism and
expression. In his sculpture, realism is shown through the creases of Mary s dress and veil and
the ways that the body s of the two subjects were molded. They were more 3 D and didn t look
flat; they showed more dimension than sculptures in the past had. At the same time, Michaelangelo
also used expression in both of the subjects. Mary looks like she is

Rhetorical Analysis Of Speech By Florence Kelley
In the middle of the speech, Florence Kelley states the situation regarding the legality of child labor
in many states, using firm facts, doleful repetition, and ironic diction to arouse within the audience
a sympathetic response to want the children removed from their harmful situations along with the
logical response of wanting to repeal the laws associated with allowing children in damaging
manufacturing industries. Kelley employs several examples of different laws in different states
allowing children to work long hours at young ages. One example given describes even the lack of
restrictions on childlabor whatsoever. In Georgia there is no restriction whatever! A girl of six or

But, before she brings this up, she first convinces her audience just how excruciatingly terrible
child labor is. Kelley focuses on children working long hours through the night, saying, tonight
while we sleep...working all night long. She then goes on to repeat the phrases, while we sleep,
and, all night long, various times throughout the core of her speech. The emphasis on children
working through the night appeals to the audience s pathos; it includes the listeners in the force
enslaving children, making them accountable. While the audience sleeps in the comfort of their
homes, young girls spend all night working to make products for them to enjoy. The sorrowful
repetition gains the listener s sympathy for the speaker s cause. Lastly, Florence Kelley
demonstrates ironic diction in her attempt to persuade her spectators to ally with her campaign.
The speaker says, boys and girls...enjoy the pitiful privilege, to describe young children going off
to their jobs instead of to their playdates. The use of the contradictory phrase pitiful privilege,
reminds the audience that the privilege of having a job, earning a living, becomes a burden when
forced on these young

1) Unwind: Helicase splits a DNA section in half at the replication fork.
2) Unzips: DNA Polymerase breaks the hydrogen bonds and unwinds the section.
3) Copy: DNA Polymerase joins individual nucleotides with their complementary counterparts to
form a new strand of DNA. Replication runs in the 5 to 3 direction.
4) Rewind: The DNA section is zipped back up and winded up again.
DNA replication is considered semiconservative because each new strand of DNA contains only

Examples Of Blindness In King Lear
Lack of insight to one s surroundings is an indicator of failure in one s proper metacognition. This
blindness is a tragic flaw that if one is not quick to realize, can have deadly and long term effects
as developed through William Shakespeare s King Lear. According to Shakespeare, blindness is not
simply a physical issue, but rather a challenge of the mind. In the play, the dominant theme of
figurative and literal blindnesscarries both the main plots and counterplots throughout the play. In
William Shakespeares King Lear, the ineluctable subject of blindness develops through King Lear,
his daughters, and Gloucester as they suffer the repercussions of their lack of perception in their
lives. Firstly, King Lear s pride leads him to appreciate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, Gloucester s lack of clear vision deceives him into believing that Edmund is the
good son while Edgar, despite the fact that he is the good one, is plotting his death to gain his
inheritance. After Edmund informs Gloucester of his attempt to [dissuade Edgar] from his
intent and shows his false wounds, Gloucester claims that of [his] land, / Loyal and natural
[Edmund], / [he will] work the means / [to] make [Edmund] capable (II, i. 84 86). When Edmund
hereafter betrays his father for his wealth and authority, Gloucester is physically blinded as a
punishment and when told the truth of Edmund s betrayal, he cries [t]hen Edgar was abused.
/ King gods, forgive [him] that, and prosper him! (III, vii, 91 92) Gloucester s deeper insight into
the true characters of his sons after he is blind reflects irony: literal blindness ironically yields
insight. Only when Gloucester is blind can he see things for what they are, and his mistake of
his refusal to hear out Edgar is what brings about his punishment. Only after, he finally regains
his sight and discovers that Edger had put all of his effort to save his father s life while playing
poor Tom and that Edgar loves him all regardless of past events. Although Gloucester appears
weak and gullible, his realization helps him to stay capable of great bravery and seeking justice.

What Are The Objectives Of The League Of Nations
Introduction
The League of Nations was borne out of collective desire of the nations around the world to
prevent war, promote world peace and stability. According to Ebegbulem (2011), the unprecedented
destruction and death caused by World War I spurred the victorious nations into formalizing a
system of collective security in the form of League of Nations. The primary motive of the League
of Nations was to prevent/deter or address any aggression by a state through collective response
from other states, thereby ensuring collective security. By ensuring collective security, the member
states aimed to discourage an aggressor nation from waging war against the victim nation through
the prospect of the aggressor having to face the collective power of the members who were
signatories to the League of Nations . The League of Nations aimed to achieve peace by linking
national and international security issues to the promotion of economic development of its member
countries (Schwabach Cockfield, n.d.). The other objectives of the ... Show more content on

Splintering Urbanism
There are many fundamental infrastructures in America that we rely on day to day. When I hear the
word infrastructure, the first thing that comes to mind are networks of transportation such as roads,
bridges, highways, rails, and airports. But infrastructure is so much more. From the water
infrastructure that provides a clean supply of water as well as the removal of water waste, to the
generation and distribution of power infrastructure, or even gas for those who need to heat their
homes and cook on stoves. All of these have their respective purposes and functions in society, but
the focus of this is going to be on the telecommunications infrastructure. The internetis a powerful
system and infrastructure that many people and their technology depend on. Even many other
infrastructures have the internet woven into its core in order to effectively operate. Tim Berners
Lee, the creator of the world wide web, once said, I myself feel that it is very important that my ISP
supplies internet to my house like the water company supplies water to my house. It supplies
connectivity with no strings attached. Sadly, connectivity to the telecommunications infrastructure
is showing symptoms of splintering urbanism in many American cities. Splintering urbanism refers

The Impact Of Internet Legislation On The Internet
The goal of the legislation was to improve the access of the internet and to allow the consumers
to receive equal access to all internet sites no matter what provider they are using. This allows
people to select the applications or sites they wish to get their information, giving them a
freedom not many have. As shown before these companies have been fined and reprimanded for
breaking the law, however this brings forth a probe to see if this policy been successful in
creating an equal internet for the consumer. According to CBS NL it states that the dutch
legislation raised the over population of 84% avidly use the internet in 2012 versus the 78% of
people in 2005. The statistics presented by the Central Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS) show that
as the internet evolved people became more dependent on the internet leading to an expansion of
people using the internet (CBS 2012). Additionally, the Netherlands holds the highest percentage
of internet users than in most developed countries in Europe (CBS). However, as we see that
more people in the Netherlands use the internet ISPs also introduced a raise in prices to help with
the lost revenue the law created. Although consumers were being charged more many advocates
still see it as a victory by stopping ISPs from raising the prices significantly higher than the are now
creating a consensus between the ISPs and its consumers.

The Keystone Pipeline will provide jobs for the U.S. Since the Keystone Pipeline requires a lot

complete the keystone pipeline xl there is an estimated 138.4 million in annual property tax. That

Factors Influencing The Adoption Behavior Of Coffee Producers
Selected explanatory variables
A micro level approach was used in order to test which factors influence the adoption behavior of
coffee producers with regard to SMPs. The model incorporates farm and management
characteristics, the socioeconomic profile of producers and social capital indicators. Table 1
presents the descriptive statistics of the data collected.
Several factors that were considered are accepted as common predictors of adoption in developing
countries. However, three questions related to explanatory variables were not included in the final
questionnaire. Firstly, we did not take into account access to bank loans since coffee farmers in
Mexico are mostly unable to obtain investment credit from lending institutions. Producers usually
have the option of obtaining short term financing (cash advances) either from local traders or
from coffee cooperatives for those who are members. However, the availability of long term credit
has virtually disappeared making it difficult for producers to defer the costs of implementing new
practices over several years (AMECAFE, 2009).
Secondly, tenure arrangements were not considered since households in the sampled area are
governed by a communal land resources committee, an institution independent of the municipality.
Under this system, producers hold usufruct rights to their coffee parcels. While a 1991 amendment
to the Mexican constitution made the privatization of communal lands (ejidos) possible it remains
the dominant type

Communication in Professional Nursing Essay
Communication and interpersonal skills are closely related in the nurse to client professional
relationship. There are several different types of communication in professional nursing. They are
written communication, verbal communication and nonverbal communication.(Craven Hirnle,

In this essay I will recall and describe my experience in a health care environment and reflect on
communication in that interaction. I will look into interpersonal and communication skills used by

paralanguage, eye contact, proxemics, gender, cultural sensitivity, therapeutic use of self, caring,
positive regard.
So let s analyse main communication and interpersonal skills used by the nurse in my interaction in
more depth. I would like to discuss paralanguage, eye contact, and proxemics and gender skills used
by the nurse in communication with me.
Paralanguage is the oral delivery of a verbal message, expressed through tone of voice, inflection,
sighing and so on (Arnold Boggs, 2011, p.165). It is used to communicate attitudes or other shades
of meaning. It is important to understand this aspect of verbal communication because it affects the
interpretation of a verbal message. If the nurse speaks in a rushed, high pitched, hush voice it will
make client feel uncomfortable, uninterested in. It could give the client the message of the nurse
not having enough time for the client. Opposite to it if the nurse is speaking in a soft, unhurried
voice that expresses genuine interest. So this type of talking will be inviting for the client to speak
and join the conversation and share the information with the nurse. Also it makes client to feel

The Enlightenment, or Age of Reason, was a time of great intellectual and moral growth for
humanity. In part because of the increasing effect of the Protestant Reformation, people were
starting to turn to reason for the answers to life s questions, rather than to the dogmas of the
Catholic Church. Scientific inquiry became widespread and accepted as the standard for inquiring
into the nature of the universe. The scientific method was developed. For the first time in the history

(World 11 33) The implication was that the king could perform any action that he wanted to
perform, that this action would be sanctioned by God, and that the people had no recourse in the
event of injustice. During the Enlightenment, the Social Contract theory of government became
popular, in part due to abuse of power by European monarchs. This doctrine was popularized by the
political and philosophical writings of Locke, Hobbes, Kant, and Rousseau, among others. It held
that humanity had originally existed in a state of nature, without any sort of government or law, and
that people entered a compact with other individuals. The people, in entering into the contract, gave
up some personal liberty to gain security and the other benefits of government intended to secure
law and order. (Government 7 22; Philosophy 19 22)
The social contract justification for the existence of government led to the establishment of the idea
of government by the consent of the governed, a view which now forms the basis for the
governments of the United States and other democratic countries. (Government 7 22)
Another philosophical idea which arose and was popular during the Enlightenment was the

Feminine Mystique, By Betty Friedan
In Feminine Mystique, Betty Friedan writes about women s inequality from men to women s
equality to men, while also writing about women accepting the inequality to women and then
fighting for equality. Friedan encourages women to find worth outside of the home and explore
her possibilities but, for the sake of every member of the family, the family needs a head. This
means Father, not Mother. Children of both sexes need to learn, recognize and respect the abilities
and functions of each sex. He is not just a substitute mother, even though he s ready and willing to
do his share of bathing, feeding, comforting, playing. [...] If in that world he is interested,
courageous, tolerant, constructive, he will pass on these values to his children (Friedan 99).
Friedan is attempts to tell her readers that no matter the circumstances, men are handed power when
they re assigned their genderand they dominate the world in every aspect jobs, politics and at
home. Since the beginning, women, believing they didn t have any other choice, would blindly
follow their husband, because they were brought up believing when a woman grows up, they are
to only marry and have children. Girls didn t get excited about things like that anymore. We don t
want careers. Our parents expect us to go to college. Everybody goes. You re a social outcast at
home if you don t. But a girl who got serious about anything she studied, like wanting to go on and
do research would be peculiar, unfeminine.

In 1993, AU Bon Pain Company purchased the Saint Louis Bread Company. In 1995, top
management at Au Bon Pain instituted a comprehensive overhaul of the newly acquired Saint

Between 1993 and 1997, average unit volumes at the revamped locations increased by 75% and

This means a major decline for almost all universities programing as well as environmental change

Getting rid of professors draws a two way deficit on both the programing system and students. Most
programs have been cut due to recent budgeting declining. Without a representative being able to
teach the subject, it no longer has any use to the department. Meanwhile, students then have to be
condensed in larger class sizes for the remaining professors to teach them. Unfortunately, this brings
a significant drawback on each university, making it unsatisfying by some high school graduates
who look into specific career paths which are no longer an option. Enrollment is the next issue
which continues to harm the Passhe system. State funding being second to 70 percent of tuition

discussed earlier on how the state system budgeting can affect Passhe. Enrollment is another
significant factor as well. When addressing enrollment, we must first look at the loss of many high

visible solidarity among those renewed in Christ? become answerable by revisiting and binding
together the three original questions presented at the start of the course. These original questions,
Who is Israel, Who is Jesus, and Who is the church, demonstrate a synchronistic relationship with

Augustine, with Jesus as its head and us as the body, shows an intimacy between the Head and
the body leading us to mystical union with Christ. Continuing, Augustine insists not only will
Christ make us one in Him, but one person, and that the church s structure reflects not a series of
individuals but a unity speaking as one. St Gregory demonstrates this in his expositions on the
Psalms, Psalm 60, The psalm, he says, speaks as though one single person is praying. But it is
not a lone individual; it is a unity speaking as one. In Christ, He molds us into one person whose
head is in heaven and whose limbs are toiling on earth. Gregory the Great echoes Augustine s
usage of the word person in the same way. He says, Our redeemer has shown himself to be one
person with the holy Church, whom he has taken to himself. Hence, one can conclude that as
members united with Christ as the body to the head, Christ transfigured us into his selfless gift of
love. Throughout scripture the imagery depicting a bridegroom s love for his spouse helps to

who happen to have Cystic Fibrosis will have more salt in their sweat than normal healthy babies.

Beyond Bumper Sticker Ethics , by Steve Wilson.
Lessons to Live By In his book, Beyond Bumper Sticker Ethics, author Steve Wilkens discusses nine
ethical views that are prevalent in cultures today. Although the systems are sometimes vague, and
his discussions, a bit biased, I find myself fortunate because I seem to agree with most of his
opinions that he lets slip. The first ethical belief that the author discusses is Cultural Relativism. It
talks about the how diversity is becoming more and more apparent between different cultures
worldwide. The author mentions that often customs that are unquestioningly accepted in one part
of the world are considered abhorrent in another, for example: human sacrifice. Cultural Relativism
claims that there are no absolute standards for moral... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No crime would be anyone s fault. People would not take responsibility for their actions, and this
world in fact, not be ethical at all. Egoism advocates the selfish pursuit of happiness, although it
does seem to put more emphasis on selfishness than happiness. Utilitarianism, which is the next
view discussed, keeps the pursuit of happiness, but eliminates selfishness. This system seems
more socially inclusive, and its main slogan is the greatest happiness for the greatest number. To
me, this is the most wishy washy chapter. One thing from this ethical view that I do agree with is
that it offers a means of balancing individual freedoms with social obligations. While God does
choose certain people to do certain things, we are all judged according to one standard and loved
equally by God. Also, it would seem difficult to imagine a loving God who wants to torture his
creatures. Of course He wants them to be happy. One problem I have with this view is that it
says that actions are judged by their consequences. If this is true, then we can t know if our
actions are good are bad because the decision is dependent on knowing the future. Also, if we
chose one path, we would still not know what the results of the other choices would have been so
how would one know if the one he made was the greatest good. Also, according to Utilitarianism,
we must face the problems concerning the extent ( greatest number ) of actions. We would then
have to face who would be

Punting A Football Movement Analysis
Movement Analysis of Punting a Football Punting a football can be intensively and precisely
explained through the study of structural kinesiology. Punting is a skill that is often referred to as
kicking. It is performed by releasing the ball from the hands and kicking the ball before it strikes the
ground. Punting is an action that takes place in the sagittal plane around the frontal axis. The joints
involved are the: atlantooccipital (cervical), intervertebral (lumbar), scapulothroracic (shoulder
girdle) glenohumeral (shoulder) humeroulnar (elbow) radiocarpal (wrist) metacarpophalangeal and

Effects Of Transcendentalism
Is this a gift?, the cordial cashier asks my mom at the checkout counter at Target during Christmas
season. Around me, I see people bustling in all directions, scrambling to find those perfect
presents that, sooner or later, will be forgotten about, buried in the darkest crevices of one s closet
or, perhaps, already on their way to the dumpster. I have oftentimes wondered what instigates
people to accumulate objects, which end up barely fulfilling their needs, therefore, initiating the
never ending cycle of consumerism. Having lived in the United States for seventeen years, I have
come to acknowledge that Americans possess an unfulfilled desire for purchasing, supposedly
practical and innovative items, ranging from the newest edition of the MacBook Air to a
redesigned model of the Jeep... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To my knowledge, many people, including transcendentalists Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry
David Thoreau have observed these issues begin to develop in America as early as the nineteenth
century. By stressing the ideals of living one with nature, far from the realms of society s corrupting
influence, they have, inevitably, sparked a movement of minimalism, that merits much more
attention than it receives. This motivates me, as an individual who intends to major in urban
studies, to conduct research and statistical analysis to determine why our culture has a
predisposition for consumerism, provided that most Americans are already heavily indebted.
Exploring the multiple factors that account for such a prodigious trend in our country could help us
identify and counteract the effects that it has on our environment and economy. Of course, this is
an immense challenge to overcome, yet it is also one of the most urgency; it is, inevitably, a threat
to our existence, especially once the human population starts being replaced by human

  • 4. Morley Callaghan Symbols Books are the foundation of diverse characters and themes, though are often overlooked; a reader finds intrigue by the story rather than the meaning written between the lines of the written text. The author works feverishly to bring these ideas forward through the variety of literary devices, however the hard work put into the noveldoes not necessarily achieve recognition. The Loved and the Lost by Morley Callaghan contains effective use of literary devices to develop the characters morals, and their position in society concerning social status and societal isolation. The techniques that author skillfully uses include flashback, dialogue and symbolism. Flashback works to characterize and shape each character, while dialogue creates interactions... Symbols work to break down a character and present their opinions on society to gain a better understanding of what the individual believes in. Peggy Sanderson is an advocate for change in the treatment of black culture and is constantly showing her respect for the group that others oppress. A symbol that best describes Peggy s opinion is the river, which flows around the city of Montreal. It was those who wanted a change who preferred the broad flowing river (Callaghan 1), perfectly describing Peggy through the use of symbolism in nature. Peggy wants to see change in the world and her strive for change is like a river that is constantly flowing. Water in a river never stops and fresh water replaces it as it flows. Peggy never stops respecting the African American culture and will always speak her mind on the subject, despite what others believe. Similar to the river, the mountain is also an important piece of symbolism in the text. Symbolism creates a representation of the societal mindset and the ways by which a society works. Segregation in the text is more than common and the isolation between groups is prominent. In Callaghan s work, the white culture is racist and oppresses the black culture, remaining stuck in their oppressive ways. The belief that their ways should not change describes Catherine Carver, a young woman who has a divorce and engages in a romantic relationship with McAlpine. Catherine is the daughter of Mr. Carver, an aristocrat who is very set in his ways and does not believe in change, which he passes down to his daughter. In contrast to the river, the mountain represents Catherine and the overall white culture at the time. A mountain is firm and never moves nor does it change, which is why those who wanted ... The good vibes for everyone, how it was so sunny, and the soft smooth breezy that would come from the ocean. Having such a huge, positive, impact with the different smells, taste, and many sounds. To begin with, I ve been to many beaches, but the one that sticks out the most is Santa Monica. You can be a few miles away from the beach and you can smell the salt water. When you get closer to beach the smell gets stronger, like a pinch of green, seaweed. Getting closer we smell the different type of food, hot dogs, cotton candy, funnel cakes, burgers. Gettysburg Essay Gettysburg Living in close proximity to Gettysburg, I have spent many weekends of my childhood hiking through the numerous acres of woods on Culp s Hill, climbing the gigantic boulders in Devil s Den, and tramping through the marshes of Plum Run. Enjoying the scenic beauty is just the beginning as to what Gettysburg has to offer. However, why is Gettysburg so important to us all as Americans? What made this small town so famous that tens of thousands of tourists from all over the globe come to walk through the many wheat fields in the surrounding countryside? While wandering those same fields that Union and Confederate soldiers fought on some one hundred and forty years ago, I asked myself why this place was so significant. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next question I asked Mr. Kise focused on why the victory at Gettysburg was so very pivotal to the Union. In my own analysis of the battle, I did not expect the answer that I received from him. He said that in his own personal opinion of what makes Gettysburg so important, is Lincoln s speech four months after the battle (Kise). He goes on to explain that even though the Union Army won a substantial victory at Gettysburg and helped to turn back the invading Confederate Army, it was when Lincoln gave his Gettysburg Address that gave the battle meaning. Lincoln turned the war from merely holding the Union together, to giving a new birth of freedom (Kise). My next question for Mr. Kise is probably the most asked question of the battle of Gettysburg. I wanted to know what would have occurred if the Confederacy had won the battle. Mr. Kise came to the conclusion that Lee would have had to withdraw eventually due to the fact that he did not have many supplies left and he had lost almost a third of his army (Kise). He also argues that the North, with its superior transportation system, could have quickly brought up other troops (Kise). In all, Mr. Kise felt that Gettysburg was indeed a key battle for the Union in that the Army of the Potomac was victorious. However, there were other factors that made it such a key battle as ... • 8. Analysis Of The Movie The Return Of Martin Guerre The role of Bertrande de Rols in the film The Return of Martin Guerre is a firm representation of the way in which women of this time subscribed to clear gender norms. She was a dutiful wife who stayed behind while her husband went off to war and to travel the world. She was willing to submit to him (or Arnaud, the man who ended up being an imposter of Martin) and settle down to have children upon his return. And when it came time to stand up him, she played her role in that process too (even though it wasn t her husband for whom she was initially testifying). She doesn t have the leeway in which to create her own path in life, and seems to constantly bend to the whim of others. Bertrande is the quintessential example of how women throughout history kept the home fires burning while their men explored the world, and then were forced to take back whatever iterations of their mates they got back (which in this case, wasn t even the same man). To say that Bertrande was likely initially underwhelmed with Martin s return would be putting it mildly. Historians that have studied this period in French history for women surmise that Bertrande likely enjoyed the freedom of making her own decisions (Lewis 65). In fact, in her book The Wife of Martin Guerre, author Janet Lewis envisages an existence for Bertrande that speaks to just how much she likely enjoyed the freedom of being her own person when Martin first went away. At the same time, she was clearly vilified for it. Of this, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Music of Robert Schumann as a New Stage in the Development of Romanticism Music of Robert Schumann embodies many of the most characteristic features of German Romanticism deep psychological insight, aspiration for the ideal, intimacy, irony and bitterness. Advanced aesthetic tendencies of German culture in the period of 1820 40s found vivid expression in his music. In contradictions, which are inherent in Schumann s music, reflected the complex contradictions of the social life from his time. His music is filled with a restless, rebellious spirit that puts him in the same line with Byron, Heine, Goethe, Wagner and others. However, the theme of rebellion in the music of Schumann has a psychological, but very lyrical representation. Compared to Heinrich Heine, Victor Hugo, and Ludwig Van Beethoven who viewed the world through the prism of social injustice, Schumann did not aim towards social revolt. The greatest part of his diverse heritage was his personal confession in music. Schumann s piano music, for instance, Kreisleriana, Op.16 and the Symphonic Etudes, op.13, are truly a musical encyclopedia of the human soul with many nuances and tones, with shades of colors of joy, sorrow, anguish, doubt and struggle, dreams and anxieties, rush, despair, faith and courage. • 10. Arguments Against Ethical Relativism In The Bible As you have essentially mentioned, because moral absolutes are true, ethical relativism is false. Namely, the arguments against ethical relativism are weak. Primarily, your argument used the Bible. As a Bible believer, I agree with your statements: the Bible argues for moral absolutes rather than ethical relativism. For instance, the Ten Commandments are true for anyone and the God s standards are absolute. However, anyone who is skeptical concerning the Bible would not view the Scriptures as a credible source to argue against ethical relativism. Therefore, knowing and presenting arguments that do not derive from the Bible would be beneficial. One beneficial method would be scrutinizing two prime forms of ethical relativism: moral subjectivism and cultural relativism. These two have shortcomings in their arguments. The former form, moral subjectivism, basically argues that moralityis whatever one perceives, whereas the latter, cultural relativism, states that the culture dictates morality for that culture. With the former, one who believes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is absurd. In addition, subjective morality is inherently logically contradictory since, for instance, if a person believes that subjective morality is immoral, subjective morality appears to be immoral and not viable. An apparent stronger form of ethical relativism is cultural relativism since, as Michael Scott Jones wrote, Cultural relativism is more metaphysical than is moral subjectivism, which is more epistemological in nature. Therefore, in moral subjectivism, one merely perceives morality, and in cultural relativism, the culture dictates the reality of morality. In spite of cultural relativism providing a stronger form of ethical relativism than moral subjectivism, cultural relativism ultimately fails. A weak argument for cultural relativism is that because a diverse morality appears to exist in the world, cultural relativism must be true. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Their only reason to take the class is to fill the requirement then afterwards never take a music class again. In the end, the students have more trouble finding their own identity, ethnically and musically. They had to explore the music for themselves and find what they like. I believe it is important to showcase all of the distinct genres and styles of music in a music classroom because they are all important to whoever is listening and it helps show the students that they should be proud of what they identify themselves as. This era was known as the Renaissance. The citizens of Europe were surrounded by advancements in technology, music, and culture. However, one of the most prevalent changes that is still in affect today is the newly founded techniques in the arts. Artists began to think outside of the box, and they made some of the best paintings of their time. All of these have their respective purposes and functions in society, but the focus of this is going to be on the telecommunications infrastructure. The internetis a powerful system and infrastructure that many people and their technology depend on. Even many other infrastructures have the internet woven into its core in order to effectively operate. Tim Berners Lee, the creator of the world wide web, once said, I myself feel that it is very important that my ISP supplies internet to my house like the water company supplies water to my house. The model incorporates farm and management characteristics, the socioeconomic profile of producers and social capital indicators. Table 1 presents the descriptive statistics of the data collected. Several factors that were considered are accepted as common predictors of adoption in developing countries. However, three questions related to explanatory variables were not included in the final questionnaire. Firstly, we did not take into account access to bank loans since coffee farmers in Mexico are mostly unable to obtain investment credit from lending institutions. Producers usually have the option of obtaining short term financing (cash advances) either from local traders or from coffee cooperatives for those who are members. However, the availability of long term credit has virtually disappeared making it difficult for producers to defer the costs of implementing new practices over several years (AMECAFE, 2009). Secondly, tenure arrangements were not considered since households in the sampled area are governed by a communal land resources committee, an institution independent of the municipality. Under this system, producers hold usufruct rights to their coffee parcels. While a 1991 amendment to the Mexican constitution made the privatization of communal lands (ejidos) possible it remains the dominant type ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

St Gregory demonstrates this in his expositions on the Psalms, Psalm 60, The psalm, he says, speaks as though one single person is praying. The first ethical belief that the author discusses is Cultural Relativism. It talks about the how diversity is becoming more and more apparent between different cultures worldwide. Egoism advocates the selfish pursuit of happiness, although it does seem to put more emphasis on selfishness than happiness. Utilitarianism, which is the next view discussed, keeps the pursuit of happiness, but eliminates selfishness. This system seems more socially inclusive, and its main slogan is the greatest happiness for the greatest number. To me, this is the most wishy washy chapter. One thing from this ethical view that I do agree with is that it offers a means of balancing individual freedoms with social obligations. While God does choose certain people to do certain things, we are all judged according to one standard and loved equally by God. Also, it would seem difficult to imagine a loving God who wants to torture his creatures. Of course He wants them to be happy. One problem I have with this view is that it says that actions are judged by their consequences. If this is true, then we can t know if our actions are good are bad because the decision is dependent on knowing the future. Also, if we chose one path, we would still not know what the results of the other choices would have been so how would one know if the one he made was the greatest good.
