Final Project: Research Essay
Leonard Hermoso
Art Institute of California: Hollywood Abstract
Since its early days, the media have always had a hand at molding who we are as a society. It is
an extension of our culture and who we are. It has been a conduit of knowledge and information
from person to person. A consistent attribute of media is the desire of the elites to control it and a
resistance from people that want more freedom from such influences. Today, it is all around us,
affecting most, if not all, of our daily lives. It influences how kids grow up in our society. It creates
ideals that we want so much to achieve; labels us in order to promote the consumer culture. Being
filled with media all the time, it can affect our society in a way that most people would think are
negative. It can be a source of unrealistic expectations, a distorted look on reality, a distorted
image of beauty and a reason health to deteriorate, be it physically or mentally. The media is a
blessing for us, but one must be careful with it for it will always be accompanied with things that
can have a negative effect on us.
The media has become a part of us, a part of something that shapes who we are, our desires, and
what we expect to have in life. Throughout his book: Understanding Media Cultures: Social Theory
and Mass Communication, Stevenson Nick asserted that the media has become an extension of
who we are, and an extension of what we have become and can

head because of the fear of death , but then again being someones isn t really living a life.
Leaving tonight just feels right. My own damn husband wasnt willing to go on this route with
me. My two old brothers were soon brave enough to go along with me. One of my masters was a
black man though he was a slave owner he wasn t fond of the fact his own people being slaves.

I just was hoping by praying to Moses I was headed towards my freedom. I kept traveling and
walking until I finally came to some stop. I looked around and from a very far , I could see a
cardboard sign. I immediately collapsed to the ground crying , when I realized the sign said ,
Welcome to Pennsylvania . I had made it , Me , a runaway slave I made , I am free at last.
Section 2; Being born into slavery wasn t anything you really could get out of , or anything you
really had control over, Slavery wasn t a choice. America has been a slave owning country more
than ot has been a free country. In 1619 , A ship appeared with African Americans , that were
baptized and given Christian names , they were eventually purchased and worked as servants to
slave owners in Virginia. They were rich English Men.They would select strong African Men
and Women sometimes children too. A slave had no right to a vacation , a right to wages , nor a
right to property. Slaves were prohibited to read and write. Slaves had no protection to their
suffering. When a slave got a whippen they had no right to fight back nor take the master to
court.Slaves only help was probably God. Slaves could turn to God with all of their problems , they
would ask to free them from their day to day struggle they would go through.Slave families would

Nt1310 Unit 2 Check Time
We live in an age that every second matters, an update happens every second and it could be a
revolutionary life changer. Every second a decision is made, a business deal is done or its
meeting is starting. We live in a world where keeping this second where it belongs, it is all about
time keeping! As simple as checking time is today looking at the watchrounding your wrist or
looking at the clockput on the wall in front of you or simply take out your mobile from your
pocket to check it, at any time given you can update your timing to be accurate, but we are all
sure this wasn t the case six thousand years ago. It all started as water containers filled with water

The first pendulum clocks had a width of range 100 degrees and analysts wanted to increase that
range but Huygens showed that increasing the range of pendulum swing will decrease its
accuracy. Then clockmakers realized that only pendulums with small range of swing of a few
degrees are isochronous. The Second Pendulum (The royal pendulum), its range of swing is one
meter long where each swing takes one second became widely used. The long narrow clocks built
around these pendulums were first made by William Clement in the 1680s. The increased accuracy
resulted from these type of developments caused minute hand to be added to the clock dials in the
1690s. Observation that pendulum clocks were affected by summer that the thermal expansion and
contraction of the pendulum was changed by changing the temperature which was a large source of
error, this error was solved by George Graham when he invented the temperature compensated
pendulum back in 1721 and the gridiron pendulum by John Harrison in 1726.Pendulum clocks

Peanuts History
1950: First Peanuts cartoon strip. On October 2, 1950, Charles M. Schulz had his very first
Peanuts comic strip published in a U.S. newspaper. It was one of the first comic strips ever, and
one of the first ones to blow up so fast. Peanuts became a major part of daily lives and it was
eventually made into films that are played every year. Every Thanksgiving and Christmas there is a
Peanutsmovie that plays for each of those holidays. Kids these days are even introduced to a new
version of Peanuts with the 2015 film that came out last year. Peanuts was pretty much everywhere
and is still here to this day, and frankly with the new movie I don t see it dying any time soon.

Intellectual Progress Of Mankind By Martin Luther King Jr.
Intellectual Progress of Mankind
Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable...every step toward the goal of justice requires
sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated
individuals Martin Luther King, Jr. Intellectual progress of mankind is the progression towards
discovering the questions about curiosity on why something is what it is or what makes
something work the way that it does. The discovery of which we make on defining, proving, and
supporting scientific and theoretical issues is a reflection of how far we have come on particular
issues of study. this can be defined as changes that take place as a result of growth in the thinking of
mankind resulting from one s capability to think, experience, reasoning judgement and ability to
conceptualize. This helps humankind to progress in different aspects of life and make
advancements on daily basis in relation to his life. Three main subject leads toward Intellectual
Progress of mankind, philosophies, ideologies, and theories which this paper examines as related
themes that often intersect in educational ideas (Gutek, 2004). Philosophy falls somewhere between
the arts and sciences. On the one hand, it offers idiosyncratic worldviews that may be too disparate
to compare. It is not surprising, then, that the question Is philosophy progressive? is hardly ever
raised. From one viewpoint, it offers quirky perspectives that might be excessively unique, making

Freedom Of African American Freedom
The fight for freedom is like drowning. Some people have been under the water for so long they
are no longer conscious of their surroundings. Others try to resurface. Once we do resurface, we
must never stop swimming or we will be dragged back under the dark, devastating water. The
freedom we create for ourselves may change our lives, but there is always room for improvement
in this ever changing world. In order to make the best for ourselves and our families, we need to
liberate ourselves from these forces repeatedly as the pressure the controlling forces put on us
becomes too much. Throughout history, different groups of people have been mistreated due to
stereotypes. One minority group is the African Americanpopulation in our country. For hundreds of
years, America has limited the freedom of African Americans.
In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, African Americans were made slaves, because the
Caucasian people who lived here thought of them as less of people than they were. In the Three
Fifths Compromise , when deciding how many representatives should be for each state, they
decided slaves were counted as three fifths of a person, an extremely insulting fraction. African
American slaves suffered for centuries enduring hard labor and abuse in return for no money. This
treatment was unbearable and some decided to try to escape. Using the Underground Railroad, a
system of safe houses for slaves escaping the dangerous south to come to the north, people such as

Marginalation Of Women In Tennessee WilliamsA Streetcar...
Women are marginalised in A Streetcar Named Desire through their economic status, their mental
health and their place as a woman in the society of 1940s. They are held as possessions for
admiration and housework. Neither of the men in the play treat them as they should be treated, and
see them as nothing more than a housemaker and a child bearer. Also, it is made prominently clear
by Williams that no womanwould be able to survive without a man at that time. However, at some
occasions, Williams portrays that women can prove to be challenging if undermined.
Blanche Dubois is an epitome of this portrayal of women in the 1940s. She s portrayed as a
character who is running away from her past, whilst still dragging it with her, everything ... Show

They were meant to be flirtatious whist also being chaste. Blanche Dubois tries to maintain this
image. However, without any people witnessing her, she s antithesis to this role. Her solution to
her problems is via escaping to alcohol consumption, promiscuity and madness. This escape
portrays that women in the new emerging world can no longer keep up with the role of a
Southern Belle. It is the character of Stanley that forces her to fall out of this character and show
other people who she really is. Here, Blanche is shown suppressed by him, which leads to her
becoming powerless. She cannot overcome the power and dominance of Stanley. They have an
ongoing feud with each other during the play. And as we know, it is Stanley who prevails
through his rape of Blanche. This victory isn t just of Stanley over Blanche, it is a victory of
masculinity over femininity, oppression over suppression, New America over Old South. By
Stanley winning the feud, Williams displays that it s the man who holds all the cards. The rape
implies the ultimate powerlessness of Blanche and women in the play. By Stanley raping Blanche,
it is not just defeat for Blanche, however, it is a defeat for all women in the play. Through this
gesture, Williams has shown that in the 1940s, a woman cannot take home the prize in a man
dominated world.
In addition to this, Williams decides to include the role of a Southern Belle. However, why does he
do this? According to the

not fond of taxes being imposed on them or the amount of soldiers stationed in their towns. On
March 5, 1770, a boston mob insulted and threw snowballs and pieces of ice and rock at the
soldiers. The soldiers in turn panicked and shot their guns at the mob. Five men were killed in
the incident referred to by the colonists as the Boston Massacre. Even though John Adams did not
delight in the King s actions, He believed that everyone deserved a fair trial. He became the
defense attorney for the soldiers. He proved that the Captain was not guilty. Only two of the
soldiers were found guilty and their thumbs were branded. Even though he had defended the
British, Adams did not approve of many of the King s actions. He was one of five to represent
Massachusetts in the First Continental Congress meeting on September 5, 1774. He seconded the
idea that the colonists should get independence from Great Britain. When a Second Continental

The Jane Austen
Jane Austen was born in Hampshire, England on December 16, 1775. Her father was Reverend
George Austen and her mother was Cassandra Leigh Austen. Jane was the youngest daughter of
a large, close family. She had six brothers and one sister. She was especially close to her sister
and brother, Cassandra and Henry. When Jane was eight, she and her sister were sent to Oxford
and then Southampton. Because of an outbreak of typhus, a bacterial disease spread by lice or
fleas, Jane nearly died. After this, both girls returned home. Jane and her sister then attended the
Reading Ladies Boarding School, where they studied spelling, French, dancing, music and
needlework. Jane continued to expand her knowledge after she left school. Under the supervision
of her father, Jane learned to become the great author she is known as. In her teen years Jane
started writing. She wrote poems, stories, and comical pieces for her family s entertainment. She
consolidated several of these pieces of work into notebooks. As she continued to practice within her
writing, Jane became proficient at mocking the over romantic and Gothic styles of the eighteenth
century novels. In some of her earlier publishing, you can find humorous novels with deliberately
misspelled titles, Love and Freindship ; an ironic History of England ; and the book, Lady Susan.
In 1795Jane met Tom Lefroy, the nephew of their neighbors. According to her letters to Cassandra,
Jane spent an immense amount of time with Tom

Topic #2: Long Term Sustainability of Outer Space Activities
As a long standing member of the COPOUS, the European Space Agency (ESA), and various
intergovernmental space organizations, the Republic of Austria applauds the significant
advancements of space technologies, yet remains deeply concerned about the long term
sustainability of space in relation to the growth of human activities at such exponential rates. Of
equally as great importance as the threat of terrorist attacks, the happenings in outer space must be

Austria participates greatly in its space weather research segment. As well, Austria has a Satellite

extensive participation. With deep concern, Austria has cooperated with many countries last year in
the proposal of a set of guidelines along with a refined and renewed work plan for the Working

Subcommittee. And in the same year of 2016, Austria has established an European Space Education
Research Office for space education for Austria s future generations.
Through devoted research, Austria proposes a few potential resolutions and calls other countries to

believes that countries should develop a world wide, unified platform to share information on their

Crime And Punishment And The Idiot Analysis
Everyone is the same, only different. People need the same things to survive, such as food, water,
shelter, and clothing, so in that sense, everyone is the same. Their differences come from their own
unique dispositions and temperaments. Crime and Punishment and The Idiot, two of Dostoevsky s
novels, have two very seemingly similar protagonists, creating an illusion for the readers. When in
reality, the characters can be labeled as being near opposites. Through the use of the novels of
Crime and Punishment and The Idiot, Dostoevsky creates the protagonists of each novel similarly,
but alters their destinies to differentiate them. It seems that Dostoevsky has created a pattern in his
novels, as they concern themselves with behavioral... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alienation occurs to both protagonists of Crime and Punishment and The Idiot. Alienation can be
defined as the state or experience of being isolated from a group or an activity. For both
Raskolnikov and Myshkin, they are both isolated from society, whether society isolates them or
they isolate themselves from society. Raskolnikov isolates himself from society early on in the
novel because of his presumptuous mentality and theories. His extraordinary man theory dictates
his life and motivates him to commit a murder. In an explanation of his theory to Porfiry
Petrovich, the murder investigator, Raskolnikov says: I only believe in my leading idea that men
are in general divided by a law of nature into two categories, inferior (ordinary), that is, so to say,
material that serves only to reproduce its kind, and men who have the gift or the talent to utter a
new word. (Crime 141) He labels those men who have these gifts and talents as extraordinary men
and places himself into that category. He believes that he is the best and better than everyone else
in the world. After murdering Alyona Ivanovna, something unexplainable happens to Raskolnikov:
Something was happening to him entirely new, sudden and unknown. It was not that he understood,
but he felt clearly with all the intensity of sensation that he could never more appeal to these people
in the police office with sentimental effusions like his recent outburst, or with anything whatever;
and that if they had been his own

Benefits Of Stereotyping
Stereotyping is useful although only used if to make things easier and the goal is for
empowerment and improvement. I have a son who has a learning disability and in this case this
term can get sticky!
Most people automatically assume that speaking, communication and interaction with someone
with a learning disability is difficult, impossible and some may say useless. These are stereotypes
that are unproductive.
Yet knowing that people feel this way is an empowerment to those who work so diligently to make
sure that this does not happen. By stereotyping say a child with slow processing speed or ADHD as
a child that cannot pay attention long or needs things to be concrete and direct you know how to
hold a conversation effectively. Without these stereotyping characteristics there is bound to be
information that is not received. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

most children with the same type of disability have the same hardships with communication!!!
Wow, I cannot believe I am saying this!!! I never realized or sat and thought that by stereotyping
different things it can be useful....again only if it is done in the manner of making it useful. I think
without singling out the disabilities and stereotyping and generalizing the specifics of somethings
there would be less advancements. This must be why professionals do constant testing to make
sure that they do not stereotype a child into one category and leave that stereotype as a label!
Again making sure that is is always for the betterment of the child not what we know of a typical

The Project Life Cycle Of The Production Bubble Gum And...
Introduction
Quality standards pervade all aspects of society, from quality management systems standards for
nuclear power stations to technical specifications for manufacturing bubble gum (Keystone and
Accountability, 2006). For NGOs, the story is no different(optic). In general, NGOs are engaged in
a wide range of activities, they set up projects to help people in poverty areas. But little attention
has so far been given to their organization and management so that the quality of NGOs project
could not be guaranteed. As for the quality of the project, it is primarily determined by a series of
uncertainties and flexibilities at all stages of project life cycle(Roger Atkinson, L.C., S.W., 2006).
Therefore, the central argument of this article is going to find out how these two factors influence
the projects and which two quality management reforms could help to promote the NGOs project in
the context of a complex environment. In doing this, comparisons will be made with two examples
of Nokia and Lions Clubs International from their private sectors.
The Definition of Quality Management in NGOs
Quality (or performance)forms the third corner of time cost quality triangle which is the basis of
project management(Albert Lester, 2007). It is generally defined as a degree of excellence . In the
context of organizational performance it can be defined as the way in which an organization,
through its activities and underlying management systems, succeeds in meeting the needs of

First of all, rabies virus structure consists of negative sense, unsegmented, a rod which has the
shape of a bullet, single stranded, and enveloped RNA virus. It s genome is based on a leader
sequence (LDR) of about fifty nucleotides which is followed mainly by five proteins such as
phosphoprotein (P), nucleoprotein (N), glycoprotein (G), polymerase (L), and matrix protein (M).
These proteins are synthesized and play a role with translation process which occurs on free
ribosomes in the cytoplasm.
The infection process starts by the synthesis of the rabies virus encapsulated to the host cell
membrane (adsorption). Interactions between the G protein and receptors from a specific cell
surface may be involved. Once adsorption has occurred, the virus penetrates the host cell and
makes its entrance to the cytoplasm by pinocytosis through coated pits made of clathrin. In the
large endosomes, also known as cytoplasmic vesicles, a conglomeration of virions can be found.
The viral membranes join the endosomal membranes to allow the releasing of viral RNP into the
cytoplasm (uncoating). In order to enable replication of the virus, messenger RNAs (mRNAs) have
to be transcribed owing to the fact that lyssaviruses have a linear single negative stranded
ribonucleic acid (RNA) genome.
The incubation time period for rabies generally takes 30 to 90 days but it can take few as 5 days
and extend up to 2 years or more after

Analysis Of The Three Golden Hairs By Parker Fillmore
The Three Golden Hairs by Parker Fillmore, is a Czechoslovak folktale which is about a charcoal

revolves around the king doing everything in order to keep his daughter free from this marriage.
However, in the reading, there is a great deal of emphasis on power. This leads to the conclusion
that power through monarchy s in the culture of Czechoslovakia are a great deal of importance.
Throughout the story, the king steadily tried to control his own power as king. Until, the
obsession of power fell out of his hands and led to a complete downfall. A King who was a hunter

Panama Canal Thesis Statement
Thesis Statement
There is no doubt that the building of the Panama Canal was a major feat in history that has made
a huge impact on the way many countries trade with each other. It was a great struggle to complete
but it also was very rewarding.
The Land Area
The Isthmus of Panama is about 50 miles wide at its narrowest point. The land was thick with
jungle, deep swamp, and mountains. What the surveyors did not realize is that the geology behind
the land made it much harder to build the canal than in other places around the world. The
surrounding mountain range was formed differently than most mountain ranges, commonly formed
by folding due to lateral pressure. These mountains were formed by individual volcanic actions.

In 1876, French Navy Lieutenant Lucien N. B. Wyse, a grandson of Lucien Bonaparte, was sent
to explore locations and different possibilities for the canal. He returned home in April 1877 and
showed De Lesseps the construction plans. De Lesseps rejected all of the plans because they
required tunnels and locks to be built. De Lesseps prefered to build a sea level canal like the
Suez Canal. Wyse went back to the isthmus on December 6, 1877. He explored two routes in
Panama, one through Nicaragua and one through Panama. In the end he chose the Panamanian
route, which would be sea level. The route would follow the Panama Railroad and require a 7,720
meter long tunnel through the Continental Divide at Culebra. He traveled to Bogota and the
Colombian government signed a treaty on March 20th, 1878 that granted rights to build the canal
through Panama, then part of Colombia. The treaty promised Colombia ownership of the canal
after 99 years. It was estimated to take six years and $240 million. The digging started the first day
of 1880
By March 1883, construction was behind schedule and 660,000 out the promised 5,000,000 cubic
meters have been excavated. After visiting Panama in 1886, De Lesseps claims construction will
be done by July 1889. Later that year, only a few feet out of hundreds have been removed from the
Culebra Cut. De Lesseps hired

The South Was Prepared For A Major War
By the 1860s, neither the North nor the South was prepared for a major war. However, while the
north at least had a functioning government in place, more resources to begin with, and a more
effective leader, the South had virtually nothing in comparison. They lacked infrastructure and
population to serve in the military, their finances were in shambles, and they had a weak leader.
These factors played a great impact in determining the outcome of the war. Having sufficient
resources is imperative to success during a time of war. Whether it is monetary or material, it lays
the foundation for the other factors of success to come together and ultimately win the war. In the
south, however, they lacked many of these vital resources needed... Show more content on

This allowed their soldiers to be more well equipped at all times versus the southern soldiers who
were sporadically armed and whose basic necessities sometimes weren t met. Along with material
resources, the North s population was much greater than that of the South s. 2.1 million people
fought for the North, which represented nearly half of the eligible population, whereas only
900,000 people fought for the South, which made up 90 percent of its eligible population. The
North also had an inflow of Irish and German immigrants who enlisted to fight in place of some
native Northerners. Many ex slaves from the South also fought for the Union, again increasing the
North s numbers. Another hindering resource for the Confederacy was their financial situation.
Their unstable finances turned out to set them back more than their lack of industrial capacity.
Their economy relied on cotton exports, however a Union blockade made this revenue stream
almost nonexistent. To make up for this loss in revenue, the government tried to raise taxes, but
southerners resisted taxation (Goldfield, The American Journey, 408). The government then sold
bonds, but as the Confederacy lost money, bond sales drastically decreased. With few options left,
the Confederate government started printing money to finance the rest of the war. This

Personal Statement Of Purpose In Journalism
I was 18 when we moved to the United States from Cameroon in 2010. I had always known I
wanted to be in journalism, yet had little knowledge of how the media worked or what being a
journalist even entailed. I had a passion for telling stories, and zero experience or hope that I would
someday be able to do so in a way that affects everyday people, and effects positive change. As far
as I knew, journalismwas the ruling government s tool for communicating what it deemed fit for
public knowledge, and stifling any information that remotely threatened the political status quo.
Only in the following years would I come to grasp the power of media and communication, in a
journey that has led me to this very moment.
In the summer of 2011 after persuading my father that journalism was my passion and not
nursing, I enrolled in Price George s Community College. For two years, I studied Public
Relations and Journalism. I learned about the power of free speech and free media. I gained respect
for the First Amendment; the bedrock for Watergate. Here, anyone could share their opinion no
matter how unpopular. This was new and fascinating considering the restrictive nature of my free
press in my home country. So the more I learned, the more intrigued I became.
Two years and an Associate s degree later, I transferred to Phillip Merrill College of Journalism
(University of Maryland College Park) to study broadcasting. There, I learned the tricks of the
journalism trade; how to shoot,

Analysis Of Rebecca West s The Return Of The Soldier
In Rebecca West s novel, The Return of the Soldier the reader is introduced to a man named Chris
Baldry who suffers from shell shock fighting in the war. When he returns home, he has no
recollection of the past fifteen years of his life. What he remembers, is being in love with a woman
named Margaret, the daughter of an innkeeper. However, what he inevitably comes home to is a
wife named Kitty and a cousin named Jenny who have been earnestly awaiting his return. Although
West portrays Chris to be a victim so to speak within the novel due to his amnesia, the real
trauma that he would experience was awaiting him at home, back at Baldry Court. Chris return
would lead to a major upset in the lives of the women in his life, but for himself as well despite
the fact he cannot account for a little over a decade of his past.
When Chris returns home, West makes it abundantly clear through the accounts of all of the
characters that he is not the man he was when he left to fight in the war. His own cousin Frank
even says, I never realized the horror of warfare until I saw my cousin... (pg. 40). Even Jenny
admits that he doesn t seem to be the same when she admits, By nights I saw Chris running
across the brown rottenness of No Man s Land, starting back here because he trod upon a hand,
not even looking there because of the awfulness of an unburied head... (pg. 7). The shell shock he
experiences causes him to lose not only parts of his past, but parts of himself as well. However,

The Relationship Between Art And Commerce
Historically, the relationship between art and commerce has been viewed as hierarchical. In this
hierarchy of power, commerce dominates art and negatively influences artistic and creative
potential of the art while art is viewed as a form of creative and cultural luxury that needs protection
from external corruption. This argument has been brought up continually in academia, all similarly
suggesting that there is something inherent in commerce and economics that undermines the
purpose and authenticity of art. Whether this be the classic Bourdieun analysis of for profit
industries and their negative influence on art culture or the modern day parent who views the
popular music and culture of her child s generation as absent of value, there is a consistent
contention at the core of commerce and arts relationship. While I undoubtedly agree that the
politics of commerce and commercial activity has an effect on art, I do not believe that art therein
lacks value because it was produced by a commercial entity or for profit. In this paper, I will argue
that the contemporary relationship between art and commerce is one in which commerce does not
domineer art and art culture but rather preserves and sustains it. Throughout the historical debate of
this topic, many fallacies about the relationship between art and commerce have presented
themselves. One of the most common misconceptions about this relationship is that commerce
controls and debases art. Rather than a harmonious

Similarities Between Good Night And Good Luck In The Crucible
Arthur Miller s The Crucible, has many unique and complicated characters, purposed to show the
severe injustice of the Joseph McCarthy trials in the 1950 s. The injustices created by these trails
creates many different conflicts, both internal and external between many different characters. A
similar motif is expressed in George Clooney s Good Night and Good Luck. Arthur Miller uses
many different characters to show the chaos the trails created, by relating it to the story of the
Salem Witch Trials. The characters of John Proctor and Reverend Hale both resemble different
ways of dealing with internal conflict. John Proctor, had a struggle between his head and his heart.

The Salem witch trials cause confusion among people, because it forces them to question their
beliefs, which are the basis of their entire lifestyle in Salem. Reverend Hale, coming to Salem
believes he is doing good, and helping to destroy the devil, but as the trials progress, we learn
that he is doubtful of his faith. Arthur Miller masterfully shows the counterproductiveness of the
trials. The purpose of the trials was to preserve the people of Salem, but it actually achieves to
opposite by destroying people s belief in their beliefs. During the trial scene, Arthur Miller also
uses the character of Mary Warren to show confusion. Mary Warren knows the truth, but she
manages to convince herself otherwise. In Act three, during the court scene, there are a few
solid moments, where Mary Warren is unsure of her own beliefs, and of what she saw, or didn t
see. Another example of this is in Good Night and Good Luck by George Clooney when Edward
R Murrow is unsure if he should continue his quest to end the Joseph McCarthy trials. His boss
seems to be unhappy with his program on CBS, and he is unsure of what to do. Finally, an
example of this confusion caused by the trials is illustrated in Elizabeth Proctor, when she differs
from her beliefs to state that she doesn t believe in witches. In Puritan society, witches were the
ultimate evil. In some ways, they were a

the bad guy who tries to destroy or hurt the hero of the story. Villains can come in many different
shapes and sizes, race and ethnicities. This one villain that catches my eyes is Abomination. The
reason to why he is my favorite villain is because he starts off by hating the hulk. Before the
abomination turns to what it was Blonsky. As they are fighting, Blonsky stands up to hulk as he
is still in human for which I think takes a lot of guts to do because hulk is a huge guy. Blonsky
has a way to get hulk to chase him to get hulk to go into a trap. Blonsky shows a great amount of

Defense Counsel And For The Prosecution
A topic of conversation that always comes up when I mention that I m doing a placement with a
criminal barrister, one who works as both defence counsel and for the prosecution, is the idea of
representing a client who is guilty . I m asked but what if you know that they did it? and wouldn t
you feel bad if they got off? The thing is, as defence counsel these are not your concern, for the
most part. I believe that it is counterproductive and unnecessary to determine the guilt of a client
prior or during your time representing them, for a number of reasons that I will outline. Firstly, the
burden of proof depends on the state. The prosecution, with the assistance of evidence gathered

It was a drug trafficking case, and C has prior convictions for similar offences. Briefly, the drug
investigation branch found C at home with almost $10,000 in cash hidden in his underwear, and
flushed remnants of methamphetamine in his toilet. Nick and I were convinced that C needed

because, as it became evident, the prosecutor had effectively no evidence: no samples had been
taken from the sink that C had allegedly used to flush drugs down. A trained police dog that had
run to the bathroom, and knelt down to indicate the presence of drugs. This came an enormous
shock to the courtroom. I had assumed that the prosecution had had some solid evidence to go to

was annoyed and said, You wanted me to plead guilty! By a stroke of luck, Nick s client escaped
unscathed. Nick jumped on Her Honour s observations and a nolle prosequi resulted. This was a
valuable lesson for me because I realized that sometimes matters that appear obvious (for
example: the absence of evidence) might go unnoticed, even through a number of good hands at
the DPP. It is for you, then, as a lawyer, to ensure that the state, at all stages, is held to a high

Compare And Contrast Babylon And Kassite
Kassite dynasty, a dynasty that ruled in the XVIII XVII centuries. before Kh. in Khan, and in the
years 1595 1155. before the Christianity owned Babylon.
Kassites mountain cattle breeding tribes, anciently inhabited the central ranges of Zagros. They
were good horse breeders, as a result of which the strike force of their troops consisted of battle
chariots. In the second half of the XVIII century. before the Kh., the Kassites began an invasion of
Upper Mesopotamia and around 1742 BC, they captured the town of Turk in the Euphrates, near
the mouth of Khabur. Here arose the Kassite kingdom of Khan, the history of which and the kings
who ruled it, we know almost nothing. In the XVII century. BC, using the weakening of

divided within himself by war. Tim has seen war divide him with everything. His Father is a
Loyalist, and his brother is a Patriot. He hasn t chose his side so he is very confused. He admires
his brother, and is scared of his Father. If Tim were to make a decision it would drastically change
the story. But, he would be betraying one of his close familymembers. Since Tim is so divided do
you think he will make a big decision or stay neutral. Tim could be a Loyalist because the
Loyalist save him. On page 97 the Loyalists save him and his Father from the Cowboys. They
saved his life so he feels he shouldn t pay them back. Also, on page 103 Tim says, The Loyalist, I
guess. when the Pratt s asked him who he fought for. Tim is very unsure which side to be on, but
he can t say it in front of his Father. And, on page 43 Tim says, I wish Sam gave Father back the
Brown Bess. This shows that Tim is scared that his Father will get mad at Sam. This is all
important because Tim as a Loyalist will change his relationship with Sam.... Show more content on

This is shown on page 35 when Tim said, Sam made it seem that he was right, and that Father
was wrong. He trusts Sam and wants to be exactly like him one day. He and Sam have a special
bond that will always make Tim love Sam. On page 145 Tim says, When the British had all the
things in the house they set it on fire. I infer that Tim looks terrified so he believes that the British
are wrong. Tim love s Father and hates Father at the same time. He knows that the British saved his
life, but they just killed this man. He is beginning to think about how much he hates

Albatross Research Paper
Albatross secrets for energy efficient long distance flying An albatross crosses thousands of
kilometres of ocean during a single foraging trip. Once airborne the albatross does not flap its
wings and expends almost no energy through muscle use. For many years scientists have
wondered how the energy requirement for this foraging strategy is sustained. New work has now
uncovered the albatrosses secrets of flying for free. Figure 1 A recent study by Sachs et al used
Global Positioning System (GPS) data to go beyond merely observing the remarkable long distance
voyages to also describe the underlying flight dynamics. These are the first experimental results to
track the small scale movements of the albatross flight pattern. Albatrosses... Show more content on

In the study the wind speed was estimated by interpolation between widely spaced measuring
points. Even better results might be achieved if GPS data was more tightly coupled to actual wind
speed. Another way to improve the study would be more detailed description of the very fine
adjustments of orientation to the wind that are used to optimise the flight. Could this be done by
flying a drone alongside an albatross to record precise wind speed and capture high definition visual
data? This would augment the understanding of dynamic soaring to survival value with insight to
the causal factors that control the

Importance Of Polite Speech
People use polite speech to greet people or either to start something like a conversation with
friends or strangers and to express their gratitude to someone. Some people don t really like
polite speech since it never helped them out or they thought of polite speech as something
unnecessary to life; however, other people would think otherwise because polite speech is kind
away to talk to someone or address someone or even get what you want from someone like
making someone go somewhere or even tagging along to a party. This demonstrates that polite
speech as a big function in today s society because everyone uses polite speech to get something.
Polite speech can used as a way to persuade someone into doing what they want or getting
something important. Polite speech can be used to start a conversation or keep the conversation
going. Polite speech can be used to get information from someone or getting out of a sticky
situation.Polite speech can used as a way to persuade someone into doing what they want or
getting something important. People in today s society use polite speech to lower the guard of a
person so that they can talk them into doing an activity or helping themselves out. For example,
Henry got three tickets to go to a concert and that person doesn t want to go alone to the concert so
he decides to persuade his two friends that got nothing better to do. The way Henry persuades them
is when he gets both of their attention he says How s the weather

Compare And Contrast French And Indian War
French and Indian war was the dispute between French and British over the Ohio River territory.
The American Revolution marked the war that eventually led to America s independence from
Britain. The major similarities between the French and Indian War and the American Revolution
are the battle field territory and countries involved in the war. The major differences are the battle
purposes and the alliances. Both French and Indian War and the American Revolution were fought
in America, more specifically, within the British colonies area. The French and Indian War started
when French tried to claim land between the Allegheny and Ohio Rivers. Even though the war
eventually started in Europe, it was primarily fought on the colonies frontier.... Show more content

Dog Safety Research Paper
During the winter, dog safety, and the safety of all pets, is critical. When it gets cold outside,
many pet owners are extra cautious with outdoor temperatures, bringing pets inside. Also, space
heaters and other methods of warmth are being utilized. It was estimated that about 500,000 pets
are affected yearly by home fires, and nearly 1,000 of home fires were started by our four legged
family members. While in most cases home fires are accidental, many could be prevented with a
few safety tips. In hopes that more accidental fires can be prevented.
Steps to pet proofing and preventing fires

A few simple safety measures can help you prevent fires. However, if a fire does happen there are a
few things you can do ahead of time to help your pet.
When you leave secure you pet in an area that is closest to an exit and free from hazards. While
crates will keep a pet out of trouble, they can also leave them with no way to escape if a fire
starts. If you must leave your pet created, leave them near an exit where a firefighter can quickly
get them out.
Younger pets may be more likely to get into trouble and potentially cause a fire. Leave them in an
area that is free from any fire hazards. Use a baby gate to block them from no no areas while you
are away. The same goes for cats. Since they love to jump on things and knock things over, be sure
they are not free to roam in the kitchen or other areas that may hold fire hazards.
Have your leashes near a door as well, this way a firefighter not only knows you have pets, but
can use the leash to help your pets out. You can also post a window cling for firefighters. These are
available for free through the ASPCA. This informs anyone that is entering of the animals inside as
well as how many.

Investigating the Water Potential of a Potato
Investigating the water potential of a potato
Aim
Osmosis is the movement of water molecules from a region of high water concentration to a low
water concentration through a semi permeable membrane. Our aim is to investigate the water
potential of a potato through osmosis, by finding the difference in weight before and after the potato
has been set in a solution of water, sugar or salt.
Trial Method
Firstly we collected the equipment. This included a scalpel, potato cutter, and test tubes. Then we
cut the potato using the potato cutter into cylinders. Then we used the scalpel to cut each potato
strip down to size. To get each strip as close as possible the same length and width we used a ruler

The Case Of British Airways
Discussion Board # 1
Johan Rivera
Liberty University British Airways (BA) is a company that encountered several difficulties back in
the 1970 s and 1980 s. The poor performances of the organization, was leading the company to
failure. BA was offering a service that even though it accomplished the mission of the company, was
not providing customer satisfaction. The organization was not taking into consideration the needs
of the costumer and was not providing an acceptable customer service experience. Productivity at
BA in the 1970s was strikingly bad, especially in contrast to other leading foreign airlines (Jick,
Peiperl, 2010, p.28). Due to numerous changes, the company increased their revenues and became a
respectful and well know organization.
Re Energizing
In the reading Re energizing the Mature Organization , the authors provide several stages that
organizations can approach in order to achieved success in organizational change. The case of
British Airways, can be related to this article because the company went through the changing
challenges that allowed the organization to overcome the idea of failure. BA understood that in
order to increase sales and remain competitive, they had to develop new strategies and concepts
that would re energize the company. Mr. Colin Marshall, Chief Executive of British Airways, took
the responsibility to grow and re stablish the costumer services department. As a leader, he provided
tools that allowed employees to connect with

The South
The Impact of Structure in Borge s The South Ordinarily, a short story is characterized by the
inclusion of crucial details, consistent characters, linear plots, and a significant closure; Argentine
novelist Jorge Luis Borges 20th century compilation of short stories, Ficciones, defies these
characteristics, and, upon its release, conclusively revolutionized the genre. Such fictions hold
incomplete backgrounds, thinly sketched characters, non linear plots, and open ended conclusions.
The emerging genre, affectionately titled Borgesian Literature, is illustrative of the aforementioned
qualities, where texts under this genre are often composed of concise language with critical detail
laced throughout the narrative. In The South , the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Effects Of War On The Economy
The impact on the economy is strongly overlooked when people mention the consequences of war.
Most people believe the consequences of war are simply just a destruction of land and a large
number of casualties. However, going to war has a devastating economic impact in any country for
a countless number of reasons. No matter how wealthy a country may be, going to war can still
strongly affect the economy without a doubt. Many of the reasons on why this is true is mainly
because of the macroeconomic cost for manufacturing weapons, financing veteran care, and even
borrowing money from other countries that turns into financial debt. As a result, the economy faces
many consequences such as declining economic growth, decreasing wealth,... Show more content

As stated earlier, Europe had suffered one of the most devastating impacts during and after
WWII. In fact, Europe had suffered more economically after World War II for multiple reasons.
Capital depletion was seen everywhere after the war, with cities torn apart and there were bomb
craters on every street. Great Britain, inflation had increased rapidly and reached its peak following
the war along with France. The currency started to become worthless because of how crumbled the
economy had become. Even during the war, massive amounts of money were loaned from the
United States to the allies in Europe just to keep the war funded. As a result, many countries in
Europe ended up in an enormous amount of debt to America. This left millions of people having
to live extremely hard and rough in Europe. Luckily, with the help of the United States, Europe
was able to become stable again through the use of the Marshall Plan. The Marshall Plan was
created by George Marshall who was the United States Secretary of the State and the idea was to
help and support any European countries that had fell victim to the war such as France for
example. So, these countries would then receive currency from the United States, which helped
Europe extremely well and would have most likely fallen economically if the U.S. did not aid them
through the use of the Marshall Plan.
In post WWII Europe, one of the major factors that affected the economy by the war was the

Individual Waste Reduction Versus Industrial Waste Reduction Who enjoys going to a body of
water for recreational activities to find the lack of water or that it is too polluted to enjoy? I
know I find it quite frustrating. Having Smoky Mountains National Park as my back yard
growing up, I enjoyed fishing and tubing on the vast lakes, rivers, and streams. Now, living in
Illinois, I still try to enjoy lakes and rivers, but find many of the bodies of water are either depleted
or polluted. Like Derrick Jensen shows in Forget Shorter Showers , I believe that large scale waste

Jensen provides statistical evidence and proof that industries consume more and waste more than
individuals. He keeps his credibility by providing proof for his evidence and avoiding stereotyping.
While I do agree with Mckibben s ideas to an extent, I am not convinced that merely getting back to
the basics is enough to repair the damage already done to the environment. Individuals can
minimize wasteful habits and provide a positive impact, but it will be minimal. Jensen s thoughts
that corporations and industries must reduce waste and pollution to repair the environment is proven
through the examples he provides. Individuals should recycle and reduce waste to help, but
industries need to do their part as well.

The s Relationship With Abraxas
Olsen goes on to ask important questions when it comes to the Templars relationship with
Abraxas, such as why the Templars used the Abraxas seal and did the Order use it like Lamy
suggested? And if they did use it, was it utilized by an inner secret circle of Templars? Olsen also
mentions a mysterious text called the Levitikon, which is probably written in the early 1800 s
which presents Jesus as an initiate of the Egyptian higher mysteries, just as Simon Magus is
depicted in the Clementines. Further onward, Olsen writes (p. 123): In 1877 a German Masonic
specialist named Merzdorf claimed to have found, among other Masonic manuscripts, two Latin
Rules of Templars (purported to date from the 13th Century). One was the Rule for the chosen
brothers, and the other for the consoled brothers. The first Rule describes the church as the
Synagogue of Anti Christ, and stipulates an elect reception ceremony (involving various ritual
kisses one on the male member and including readings from open verses from the Koran). The
latter Rule implies strongly the Templars shared the doctrines of the Cathars, including that of the
consolamentum, or mystical baptism. Still authenticity of these has yet to be determined. What is
the most tantalizing of what Oslen is saying here is that there is a Medieval text from 1240 called
The Book of the Baptism of Fire which was transcribed by Robert Standford, the Grand Master in
England. In this text, it talks about more about these

The Bean Trees Mother Figures Essay
The author Barbara Kingsolver once said, Sometimes the strength of motherhood is greater than
natural laws. This means that mothers can go through great lengths and even break laws for their
children. In the book The Bean Trees , Kingsolver portrays that quote by writing about Taylor s
experiences with an abandoned child named Turtle. Kingsolver included several characters in the
book that act as mother figures. Barbara Kingsolverseems to be saying that a mother does not have
to come biologically through the characters of Taylor, Lou Ann, and Mattie. Lou Ann is a character
that was introduced in the second chapter. Lou Ann is single and has a son whom she loves. Lou

Starting right now, you ve only got one Ma in the whole world, (Kingsolver 302). Taylor made a
comeback to Turtle calling Esperanza by Ma by telling Turtle that she only has one ma in the

Turtle. Even though she had a child, Taylor was still a child inside that tried to avoid pregnancy.
Mattie is the older character in this book that was owned Jesus is Lord Tires and was a character
that acted as a mother to multiple characters. She looked at me the way Mama would have,
(Kingsolver 252). This quote was found near the end of the book that signified Mattie looking at
Taylor and Taylor observing that look and thinking that it is similar to her real mother s. Mattie
gave some money to Taylor for the trip and Taylor refused to take it, so Mattie said that it was
for everyone in the car and gave her the look that reminded Taylor of her biological mother. I ve

(Kingsolver 252). Mattie seemed worried about Turtle and offered her something to eat. She
acted as a mother figure to Turtle because she fed her and gave her more food when Turtle hinted
for it. Mattie was the one that fit as a mother figure to a lot of characters in the book. She was the

  • 2. Art Institute Of Californi Hollywood Visual Language and Culture Final Project: Research Essay Leonard Hermoso Art Institute of California: Hollywood Abstract Since its early days, the media have always had a hand at molding who we are as a society. It is an extension of our culture and who we are. It has been a conduit of knowledge and information from person to person. A consistent attribute of media is the desire of the elites to control it and a resistance from people that want more freedom from such influences. Today, it is all around us, affecting most, if not all, of our daily lives. It influences how kids grow up in our society. It creates ideals that we want so much to achieve; labels us in order to promote the consumer culture. Being filled with media all the time, it can affect our society in a way that most people would think are negative. It can be a source of unrealistic expectations, a distorted look on reality, a distorted image of beauty and a reason health to deteriorate, be it physically or mentally. The media is a blessing for us, but one must be careful with it for it will always be accompanied with things that can have a negative effect on us. The media has become a part of us, a part of something that shapes who we are, our desires, and what we expect to have in life. Throughout his book: Understanding Media Cultures: Social Theory and Mass Communication, Stevenson Nick asserted that the media has become an extension of who we are, and an extension of what we have become and can ... The first pendulum clocks had a width of range 100 degrees and analysts wanted to increase that range but Huygens showed that increasing the range of pendulum swing will decrease its accuracy. Then clockmakers realized that only pendulums with small range of swing of a few degrees are isochronous. The Second Pendulum (The royal pendulum), its range of swing is one meter long where each swing takes one second became widely used. The long narrow clocks built around these pendulums were first made by William Clement in the 1680s. The increased accuracy resulted from these type of developments caused minute hand to be added to the clock dials in the 1690s. Observation that pendulum clocks were affected by summer that the thermal expansion and contraction of the pendulum was changed by changing the temperature which was a large source of error, this error was solved by George Graham when he invented the temperature compensated pendulum back in 1721 and the gridiron pendulum by John Harrison in 1726.Pendulum clocks remained the world standard for timekeeping accuracy for over 200 ... Intellectual Progress Of Mankind By Martin Luther King Jr. Intellectual Progress of Mankind Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable...every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals Martin Luther King, Jr. Intellectual progress of mankind is the progression towards discovering the questions about curiosity on why something is what it is or what makes something work the way that it does. The discovery of which we make on defining, proving, and supporting scientific and theoretical issues is a reflection of how far we have come on particular issues of study. this can be defined as changes that take place as a result of growth in the thinking of mankind resulting from one s capability to think, experience, reasoning judgement and ability to conceptualize. This helps humankind to progress in different aspects of life and make advancements on daily basis in relation to his life. Three main subject leads toward Intellectual Progress of mankind, philosophies, ideologies, and theories which this paper examines as related themes that often intersect in educational ideas (Gutek, 2004). • 7. Freedom Of African American Freedom The fight for freedom is like drowning. Some people have been under the water for so long they are no longer conscious of their surroundings. Others try to resurface. Once we do resurface, we must never stop swimming or we will be dragged back under the dark, devastating water. The freedom we create for ourselves may change our lives, but there is always room for improvement in this ever changing world. In order to make the best for ourselves and our families, we need to liberate ourselves from these forces repeatedly as the pressure the controlling forces put on us becomes too much. Throughout history, different groups of people have been mistreated due to stereotypes. One minority group is the African Americanpopulation in our country. For hundreds of years, America has limited the freedom of African Americans. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, African Americans were made slaves, because the Caucasian people who lived here thought of them as less of people than they were. In the Three Fifths Compromise , when deciding how many representatives should be for each state, they decided slaves were counted as three fifths of a person, an extremely insulting fraction. African American slaves suffered for centuries enduring hard labor and abuse in return for no money. This treatment was unbearable and some decided to try to escape. Women are marginalised in A Streetcar Named Desire through their economic status, their mental health and their place as a woman in the society of 1940s. They are held as possessions for admiration and housework. Neither of the men in the play treat them as they should be treated, and see them as nothing more than a housemaker and a child bearer. Also, it is made prominently clear by Williams that no womanwould be able to survive without a man at that time. However, at some occasions, Williams portrays that women can prove to be challenging if undermined. Blanche Dubois is an epitome of this portrayal of women in the 1940s. They were meant to be flirtatious whist also being chaste. Blanche Dubois tries to maintain this image. However, without any people witnessing her, she s antithesis to this role. Her solution to her problems is via escaping to alcohol consumption, promiscuity and madness. This escape portrays that women in the new emerging world can no longer keep up with the role of a Southern Belle. It is the character of Stanley that forces her to fall out of this character and show other people who she really is. Here, Blanche is shown suppressed by him, which leads to her becoming powerless. She cannot overcome the power and dominance of Stanley. They have an ongoing feud with each other during the play. And as we know, it is Stanley who prevails through his rape of Blanche. This victory isn t just of Stanley over Blanche, it is a victory of masculinity over femininity, oppression over suppression, New America over Old South. By Stanley winning the feud, Williams displays that it s the man who holds all the cards. The rape implies the ultimate powerlessness of Blanche and women in the play. By Stanley raping Blanche, it is not just defeat for Blanche, however, it is a defeat for all women in the play. Through this gesture, Williams has shown that in the 1940s, a woman cannot take home the prize in a man dominated world. In addition to this, Williams decides to include the role of a Southern Belle. For both Raskolnikov and Myshkin, they are both isolated from society, whether society isolates them or they isolate themselves from society. Raskolnikov isolates himself from society early on in the novel because of his presumptuous mentality and theories. His extraordinary man theory dictates his life and motivates him to commit a murder. In an explanation of his theory to Porfiry Petrovich, the murder investigator, Raskolnikov says: I only believe in my leading idea that men are in general divided by a law of nature into two categories, inferior (ordinary), that is, so to say, material that serves only to reproduce its kind, and men who have the gift or the talent to utter a new word. Introduction Quality standards pervade all aspects of society, from quality management systems standards for nuclear power stations to technical specifications for manufacturing bubble gum (Keystone and Accountability, 2006). For NGOs, the story is no different(optic). In general, NGOs are engaged in a wide range of activities, they set up projects to help people in poverty areas. But little attention has so far been given to their organization and management so that the quality of NGOs project could not be guaranteed. As for the quality of the project, it is primarily determined by a series of uncertainties and flexibilities at all stages of project life cycle(Roger Atkinson, L.C., S.W., 2006). Therefore, the central argument of this article is going to find out how these two factors influence the projects and which two quality management reforms could help to promote the NGOs project in the context of a complex environment. In doing this, comparisons will be made with two examples of Nokia and Lions Clubs International from their private sectors. First of all, rabies virus structure consists of negative sense, unsegmented, a rod which has the shape of a bullet, single stranded, and enveloped RNA virus. It s genome is based on a leader sequence (LDR) of about fifty nucleotides which is followed mainly by five proteins such as phosphoprotein (P), nucleoprotein (N), glycoprotein (G), polymerase (L), and matrix protein (M). These proteins are synthesized and play a role with translation process which occurs on free ribosomes in the cytoplasm. The infection process starts by the synthesis of the rabies virus encapsulated to the host cell membrane (adsorption). Interactions between the G protein and receptors from a specific cell surface may be involved. Once adsorption has occurred, the virus penetrates the host cell and makes its entrance to the cytoplasm by pinocytosis through coated pits made of clathrin. In the large endosomes, also known as cytoplasmic vesicles, a conglomeration of virions can be found. The viral membranes join the endosomal membranes to allow the releasing of viral RNP into the cytoplasm (uncoating). In order to enable replication of the virus, messenger RNAs (mRNAs) have to be transcribed owing to the fact that lyssaviruses have a linear single negative stranded ribonucleic acid (RNA) genome. The King wrote his wife the letter which read, Have the young man who delivers this letter run through with a sword at once. He is a dangerous enemy. Let him be dispatched before I return... • 19. Panama Canal Thesis Statement Thesis Statement There is no doubt that the building of the Panama Canal was a major feat in history that has made a huge impact on the way many countries trade with each other. It was a great struggle to complete but it also was very rewarding. The Land Area The Isthmus of Panama is about 50 miles wide at its narrowest point. The land was thick with jungle, deep swamp, and mountains. What the surveyors did not realize is that the geology behind the land made it much harder to build the canal than in other places around the world. The surrounding mountain range was formed differently than most mountain ranges, commonly formed by folding due to lateral pressure. These mountains were formed by individual volcanic actions. Formations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1876, French Navy Lieutenant Lucien N. B. Wyse, a grandson of Lucien Bonaparte, was sent to explore locations and different possibilities for the canal. He returned home in April 1877 and showed De Lesseps the construction plans. De Lesseps rejected all of the plans because they required tunnels and locks to be built. De Lesseps prefered to build a sea level canal like the Suez Canal. Wyse went back to the isthmus on December 6, 1877. He explored two routes in Panama, one through Nicaragua and one through Panama. In the end he chose the Panamanian route, which would be sea level. The route would follow the Panama Railroad and require a 7,720 meter long tunnel through the Continental Divide at Culebra. He traveled to Bogota and the Colombian government signed a treaty on March 20th, 1878 that granted rights to build the canal through Panama, then part of Colombia. The treaty promised Colombia ownership of the canal after 99 years. It was estimated to take six years and $240 million. The digging started the first day of 1880 By March 1883, construction was behind schedule and 660,000 out the promised 5,000,000 cubic meters have been excavated. After visiting Panama in 1886, De Lesseps claims construction will be done by July 1889. Later that year, only a few feet out of hundreds have been removed from the Culebra Cut. De Lesseps hired ... • 20. The South Was Prepared For A Major War By the 1860s, neither the North nor the South was prepared for a major war. However, while the north at least had a functioning government in place, more resources to begin with, and a more effective leader, the South had virtually nothing in comparison. They lacked infrastructure and population to serve in the military, their finances were in shambles, and they had a weak leader. These factors played a great impact in determining the outcome of the war. Having sufficient resources is imperative to success during a time of war. Whether it is monetary or material, it lays the foundation for the other factors of success to come together and ultimately win the war. The North also had an inflow of Irish and German immigrants who enlisted to fight in place of some native Northerners. Many ex slaves from the South also fought for the Union, again increasing the North s numbers. Another hindering resource for the Confederacy was their financial situation. Their unstable finances turned out to set them back more than their lack of industrial capacity. Their economy relied on cotton exports, however a Union blockade made this revenue stream almost nonexistent. To make up for this loss in revenue, the government tried to raise taxes, but southerners resisted taxation (Goldfield, The American Journey, 408). The government then sold bonds, but as the Confederacy lost money, bond sales drastically decreased. With few options left, the Confederate government started printing money to finance the rest of the war. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Personal Statement Of Purpose In Journalism I was 18 when we moved to the United States from Cameroon in 2010. I had always known I wanted to be in journalism, yet had little knowledge of how the media worked or what being a journalist even entailed. I had a passion for telling stories, and zero experience or hope that I would someday be able to do so in a way that affects everyday people, and effects positive change. As far as I knew, journalismwas the ruling government s tool for communicating what it deemed fit for public knowledge, and stifling any information that remotely threatened the political status quo. Only in the following years would I come to grasp the power of media and communication, in a journey that has led me to this very moment. In the summer of 2011 after persuading my father that journalism was my passion and not nursing, I enrolled in Price George s Community College. For two years, I studied Public Relations and Journalism. I learned about the power of free speech and free media. I gained respect for the First Amendment; the bedrock for Watergate. Here, anyone could share their opinion no matter how unpopular. This was new and fascinating considering the restrictive nature of my free press in my home country. So the more I learned, the more intrigued I became. Two years and an Associate s degree later, I transferred to Phillip Merrill College of Journalism (University of Maryland College Park) to study broadcasting. There, I learned the tricks of the journalism trade; how to shoot, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Rebecca West s The Return Of The Soldier In Rebecca West s novel, The Return of the Soldier the reader is introduced to a man named Chris Baldry who suffers from shell shock fighting in the war. However, what he inevitably comes home to is a wife named Kitty and a cousin named Jenny who have been earnestly awaiting his return. Although West portrays Chris to be a victim so to speak within the novel due to his amnesia, the real trauma that he would experience was awaiting him at home, back at Baldry Court. Chris return would lead to a major upset in the lives of the women in his life, but for himself as well despite the fact he cannot account for a little over a decade of his past. • 26. The Relationship Between Art And Commerce Historically, the relationship between art and commerce has been viewed as hierarchical. In this hierarchy of power, commerce dominates art and negatively influences artistic and creative potential of the art while art is viewed as a form of creative and cultural luxury that needs protection from external corruption. This argument has been brought up continually in academia, all similarly suggesting that there is something inherent in commerce and economics that undermines the purpose and authenticity of art. Whether this be the classic Bourdieun analysis of for profit industries and their negative influence on art culture or the modern day parent who views the popular music and culture of her child s generation as absent of value, there is a consistent contention at the core of commerce and arts relationship. While I undoubtedly agree that the politics of commerce and commercial activity has an effect on art, I do not believe that art therein lacks value because it was produced by a commercial entity or for profit. In this paper, I will argue that the contemporary relationship between art and commerce is one in which commerce does not domineer art and art culture but rather preserves and sustains it. Throughout the historical debate of this topic, many fallacies about the relationship between art and commerce have presented themselves. One of the most common misconceptions about this relationship is that commerce controls and debases art. Rather than a harmonious ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A similar motif is expressed in George Clooney s Good Night and Good Luck. Arthur Miller uses many different characters to show the chaos the trails created, by relating it to the story of the Salem Witch Trials. Arthur Miller masterfully shows the counterproductiveness of the trials. The purpose of the trials was to preserve the people of Salem, but it actually achieves to opposite by destroying people s belief in their beliefs. During the trial scene, Arthur Miller also uses the character of Mary Warren to show confusion. Mary Warren knows the truth, but she manages to convince herself otherwise. In Act three, during the court scene, there are a few solid moments, where Mary Warren is unsure of her own beliefs, and of what she saw, or didn t see. Once airborne the albatross does not flap its wings and expends almost no energy through muscle use. For many years scientists have wondered how the energy requirement for this foraging strategy is sustained. New work has now uncovered the albatrosses secrets of flying for free. Another way to improve the study would be more detailed description of the very fine adjustments of orientation to the wind that are used to optimise the flight. Could this be done by flying a drone alongside an albatross to record precise wind speed and capture high definition visual data? Most people believe the consequences of war are simply just a destruction of land and a large number of casualties. However, going to war has a devastating economic impact in any country for a countless number of reasons. No matter how wealthy a country may be, going to war can still strongly affect the economy without a doubt. Many of the reasons on why this is true is mainly because of the macroeconomic cost for manufacturing weapons, financing veteran care, and even borrowing money from other countries that turns into financial debt. As a result, the economy faces many consequences such as declining economic growth, decreasing wealth,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As stated earlier, Europe had suffered one of the most devastating impacts during and after WWII. In fact, Europe had suffered more economically after World War II for multiple reasons. Capital depletion was seen everywhere after the war, with cities torn apart and there were bomb craters on every street. Great Britain, inflation had increased rapidly and reached its peak following the war along with France. The currency started to become worthless because of how crumbled the economy had become. Even during the war, massive amounts of money were loaned from the United States to the allies in Europe just to keep the war funded. As a result, many countries in Europe ended up in an enormous amount of debt to America. This left millions of people having to live extremely hard and rough in Europe. Luckily, with the help of the United States, Europe was able to become stable again through the use of the Marshall Plan. The Marshall Plan was created by George Marshall who was the United States Secretary of the State and the idea was to help and support any European countries that had fell victim to the war such as France for example. So, these countries would then receive currency from the United States, which helped Europe extremely well and would have most likely fallen economically if the U.S. did not aid them through the use of the Marshall Plan. While I do agree with Mckibben s ideas to an extent, I am not convinced that merely getting back to the basics is enough to repair the damage already done to the environment. Individuals can minimize wasteful habits and provide a positive impact, but it will be minimal. Jensen s thoughts that corporations and industries must reduce waste and pollution to repair the environment is proven through the examples he provides. • 48. The s Relationship With Abraxas Olsen goes on to ask important questions when it comes to the Templars relationship with Abraxas, such as why the Templars used the Abraxas seal and did the Order use it like Lamy suggested? And if they did use it, was it utilized by an inner secret circle of Templars? Olsen also mentions a mysterious text called the Levitikon, which is probably written in the early 1800 s which presents Jesus as an initiate of the Egyptian higher mysteries, just as Simon Magus is depicted in the Clementines. Further onward, Olsen writes (p. 123): In 1877 a German Masonic specialist named Merzdorf claimed to have found, among other Masonic manuscripts, two Latin Rules of Templars (purported to date from the 13th Century). One was the Rule for the chosen brothers, and the other for the consoled brothers. The first Rule describes the church as the Synagogue of Anti Christ, and stipulates an elect reception ceremony (involving various ritual kisses one on the male member and including readings from open verses from the Koran). The latter Rule implies strongly the Templars shared the doctrines of the Cathars, including that of the consolamentum, or mystical baptism. Still authenticity of these has yet to be determined. What is the most tantalizing of what Oslen is saying here is that there is a Medieval text from 1240 called The Book of the Baptism of Fire which was transcribed by Robert Standford, the Grand Master in England. In this text, it talks about more about these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
