The Charge Of The Light Brigade Poem
Imagine charging into a battle where the odds of winning are close to none. Now imagine charging
forward where the enemy is attacking from three sides. This was the reality for a certain British
Brigade during the Crimean War in 1854. In his 1854 poem, The Charge of the Light Brigade, Alfred,
Lord Tennyson describes the Battle of Balaclava where the British ride into their untimely death.
Tennyson ends the poem with a significant few lines that read, Honor the charge they made/Honor the
light Brigade/Noble six hundred. (Lines 53 55). By looking at the last lines Tennyson writes in his
poem, one is able to realize the significance of the Charge of the Light Brigade, and how these lines
add to the glorification of war and honor theme seen throughout the poem. The Light Brigade was a
unit of British men who misinterpreted the orders given to them by the commander in chief of the
British army during the Crimean war. In the result of this misinterpretation, the Light Brigade charged
into heavy Russian artillery where they were attacked from three sides (Greenspan). Tennyson
describes this scene in his poem when he states, Cannon to the right of them/Cannon to the left of
them/Cannon in front of them, (Lines 18 20). The British cavalry was slaughtered as they headed
down into what is known as The Valley of Death (Greenspan). According to the poem, there were six
hundred men who fought in this charge. By stating that they were noble, Tennyson believes these men
to be of

Tartuffe Essay
Tartuffe
In his most notorious play Tartuffe, Molière relates the story of an attempt, by a manipulative
hypocrite, to destroy the domestic happiness of a citizen who, charmed by his seeming piety, has taken
him into his home as a respectable guest. The play was disallowed after its first performance because
it was deemed anti religion. However this ruling was made unfairly since true religion is never
confounded with hypocrisy, but is upheld with warmth, which shows his characteristic hatred of
imposture in any shape.
Through out Tartuffe, Molière s play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They never will attack a sinner viciously—

Their zeal isn t excessive, and it never seems
The interests of God have pushed them to extremes.
These are my heroes. They re the men I think are great.
And they re the men whom I would want to imitate.
On first seeing Tartuffe performed in Versailles, the King immediately recognized and appreciated its
genius. He understood that it was strictly addressing hypocrisy, however concern about the play began
to grow as its performance moved to Paris. Molière s adversaries claimed that under the fake motive
of trying to expose hypocrisy, he actually sought to undermine the foundations of religion itself.
Pressure from the opposition, which included the Catholic Church, the archbishop of Paris, the Queen
Mother Anne of Austria, and the Company of the Holy Sacrament forced Louis XIV to ban the play in
Paris.
The argument could be made that The King s initial approval stemmed from the fact that Tartuffe
includes patronage in the form of not so subtle flattery and references to Louis XIV and his family and
associates, rather than the theme of hypocrisy versus sincerity. One instance of this being in the final
act where the King s authorities come to arrest Tartuffe for a history of swindling people out of their
fortune. The officer refers to his King as:
He sees things as they are; you ll find that wicked schemes

The Reid Report
The Reid Report is an overt integrity test that measures counterproductive behavior in potential
employees, such as theft, tardiness, drug use, turnover, and absenteeism. It currently is called the Reid
Report Risk Assessment and can be used in any organization for any job position. The Reid Report has
five different measures to predict the potential employee s performance, attitude, and behavior. The
five measures are business ethics, integrity attitudes, social behavior, substance use, and work
background (Human Capital Risk Management, 2015). The first measure, business ethics, is used to
assess whether the applicant would behave ethically in the workplace and follow the policies and rules
set by the organization. Integrity attitudes assesses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Assessment with ethics was created by Vangent, Inc. in 2010, however, General Dynamics
Information Technology took over Vangent Inc. and gained the copyright to the Reid Report (Reid
Report Risk Assessment Features Critical New Ethics Scale, 2010). Soon afterwards, General
Dynamics Information Technology added the Reid Report Risk Assessment for cybersecurity and the
Reid Report Risk Assessment for collusion avoidance (Human Capital Risk Management, 2015). The
two new tests are specialized for certain areas. One focuses on identifying those applicants who have a
history of hacking into systems and posing a threat to the company s database. The other focuses on
identifying potential candidates who could work with organized criminals to steal information from
the company or valuable products (Human Capital Risk Management, 2015). The Reid Report Risk
Assessment with ethics scale is a little different from the original Reid Report. The newest version has
new questions pertaining to social behavior and substance use (Reid Report Risk Assessment Features

Characteristics Of Servant Leadership In Starbucks
What Leadership style make successful in Starbucks?
Starbucks has more than 100,000 stores in the world. It is one of the most famous and successful
companies in the world. Starbucks s chain stores have expanded all over the world, including the
United States, Canada, China and many more countries. Starbucks shows their statements of
leadership: Through our unwavering commitment to excellence and our guiding principles, we bring
the unique Starbucks Experience to life for every customer through every cup. (Chris, 2015)
According to this statement, Starbucks shows their leadership style as servant leadership (Chris,
2015).
Servant leadership
Servant leadership is a selfless leadership philosophy that exists in practice. People who are servant
leadership are willing to become servants and serve as leaders. Servant leadership encourages
cooperation, trust, listening, and power. Servant leadership is very different from the general leader.
The leaders who are in servant leadership style cherish the good sentiments of service. They would
use prestige and aspiration to inspire people and establish leadership.
People who are in servant leadership style have ten characteristics. The first characteristic is listening.
They listen to the voice of others initiatively and sincerely. The second characteristic is empathy. They
try hard to understand others, and accept and recognize the uniqueness of others. The third
characteristic is healing. They have abilities to heal oneself and others. The fourth characteristic is
awareness. They have a deep sense of self, and a clear understanding of their own beliefs and values.
They also have a comprehensive and systematic view of the issue. The fifth characteristic is
persuasion. They make decisions which rely on persuasion primarily rather than on job power, and
they can build consensus effectively among groups. The sixth characteristic is conceptualization. They
have the long term point of view. The seventh characteristic is foresight. They are good at summing up
experience in the past, and make the decisions which impact on the future. The eighth characteristic is
stewardship. They manage a variety of business for the client, and serve their needs. The ninth
characteristic is

The World Of The House By Oscar Wilde
Wordplay is used extensively in all of Oscar Wilde s plays, and perhaps never more so than in The
Importance of Being Earnest, where every scene is peppered with double entendres, puns and
aphorisms. The world of the play is a high parody of Victorian society at the time it both follows the
rules and doesn t; norms are undermined through wordplay, and language is endlessly adaptable
through puns and paradoxes. Sos Eltis notes of the characters in this play that nothing stands in the
way of their self creation, for reality itself is infinitely adaptable. Eltis argues that the characters in this
play are able, through language, to create their own realities as well as adapting to one another s.
Characters who seem to exemplify Victorian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His name was Ernest all along, after all, so to his own surprise as much as anyone else s, it turns out
that Jack was being honest throughout the play (about his name, that is all other Bunburying aside).
Wilde makes use of puns for a variety of reasons in this play. Some of his punning reveals something
about the character speaking, for instance when Algernon speaks of his musical prowess at the
beginning of the play: As far as the piano is concerned, sentiment is my forte. This is a play on the
word forte , which means both my strength as well as being a musical term related to piano playing.
The pun ties into Eltis s idea of the language of the play adapting reality sentiment is indeed Algernon
s forte, as we see again and again throughout the play (more on this later). Algernon s talent for
sentiment outweighs any obligation he may feel for honesty. For Algernon, life is not about rules, and
because of his adaptability he never has to take anything seriously. Another type of pun used by Wilde
in the play is the double entendre, in this quote from Lady Bracknell a play on the word terminus : Mr.
Worthing, is Miss Cardew at all connected ... with any of the larger railway stations in London? I
merely desire information.

Cave In The Snow Movie
Tibetan Buddhism originated in Tibet, but was based off and inspired by Indian Buddhism. Tibetan
Buddhists practice the Tantric principles, which are about the attachment to things and desires.
Another key practice, with the same name as the early sect of Tibetan Buddhism, is Nyingma, which
is that we all can obtain Buddhahood, but individuals must discover it for themselves; with guidance
from a teacher. The practice of Nyingma also teaches the gradual discovery of self and to purify the
mind.
In class, we watched a documentary movie called, Cave in the Snow . The movie discusses a Tibetan
nun named Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo, formerly known as Diane Perry, a journey where she spent

In everyday life, I feel like I must play all these different roles and it does get exhausting, that I find it
overwhelming and wonder what is my true self. I have this plan to seclude myself in a cabin in the
mountains, one day, and just experience the world and my own spirituality through this journey of
seclusion. I just want to have the chance to forget about these roles for a few months and just deeper
my own consciousness and self. Also, I feel the same as Palmo when she discusses loneliness. About
how when she was in the cave it did not feel lonely but when she is in the community it felt lonelier. I
relate to this because for some reason when I am around people I feel lonelier and left out. That when
I am around people they make me feel like I am an outsider, but when I am alone, in a sense it feels
less lonely. No one is there to make me feel like I do not belong, no one is there to make me feel like I
stick out. When Palmo discusses her own journey in the cave, it inspires me to follow a similar
journey to hers, one day. To start my own journey of self discovery and strengthen my own

President Harry S. Truman s National Prayer Day
First signed in 1952 by President Harry S. Truman, National Prayer Day was recognized and
celebrated on the first Thursday in May.
In honor of this monumental event, residents of Blythe joined in with millions of people around the
country on May 4, to call humbly before God, seeking his guidance for local, state and federal leaders
and current issues.
Asking for God s grace to fall upon this lost world, members of the community opened up the
program with prayer, followed by singing, America The Beautiful.
Being reminded by the lyrics of the song, voices punctuated the line God shed His grace on thee.
With this year s theme inspired by Daniel 9:19, master of ceremony Clifford Short said, For Your

Having every president since 1952 signed a National Day of Prayer proclamation, Donald Trump
followed suit and signed the proclamation during the early morning of May 4.
President George Washington said in 1789, it is the duty of all the Nations to acknowledge the
providence of the Almighty God. He said, If we ever forget the that we are One Nation under God,
then we will be a Nation gone under, Short recited.
Through its purpose of having National Prayer Day, the task force organization seeks to mobilize
prayer in America and to encourage personal repentance and righteousness throughout the world. With
over five pastors in attendance and 20 plus of their church members present, prayer began around 5:30
p.m.
Turning to 2 Chronicles 7:14, Short read, If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble
themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from
heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Asking for prayer and repentance on behalf of everyone, Pastor Brandon of The Church of the
Nazarene prayed for the federal government, followed by Pastor Mick Catron of Calvary Chapel of
Blythe praying for local and state leaders, including the police, fire department and Mayor Joey

Advice For First Writing Course At The University Of...
Advice to First Writing Course at the University of Central Florida
Writing courses can be challenging and that is why I decided to write this personal narrative. I believe
that a personal narrative is better for an advice column than a research paper. A personal narrative
would give more personal experience and insight on how the course was. It would be more valid since
it is true. I think people learn better when they read and hear something from the person they are
talking to rather than being about other people, especially when it comes to advice.
English courses, just like any core class, expects a lot from the students. ENC 1101 is the first english

They can properly quote it or paraphrase it using MLA format. This will demonstrate the student using
strategies to better comprehend difficult texts. Students should also learn to adapt to different writing
contexts. Throughout this course, I had to learn new vocabulary such as rhetorical situation and
discourse community. These are actually types of essays I had to write during this course. When
writing these types of essays, one has to keep in mind their audiences and their own experience.
Lastly, students will consider how social, rhetorical, and technological contexts shape writing because
it reflects sensitivity to school writing as a social affair (McCarthy 231).
There are some constraints that I had to think about when deciding the genre of this paper. One
constraint to this personal narrative is the time I took this course. I took ENC 1101 during the Summer
B section. Summer B was only six weeks long and I had to learn the concepts of this course in that
amount of time when it usually takes around sixteen weeks. This made the course much harder for me
and other students. Especially because English is my second language, it takes me longer to read and
analyze articles. This was also one out of two of my first classes as a college students. It is a different
environment and I had to adapt to different situations and expectations. Another constraint is about
those students that already have credit for ENC

The Porter s Five Forces
The Porter s five forces is a competitive position analysis and business strategy format created by
Michael Porter in 1979. The premise behind the format is to provide them with five forces that shape
every industry. Mr. Porter s theory is that if a company analyzed the information received from
reviewing the five forces, the company would be able to compete in a higher fashion against its
competitions. Following the five forces would allow a firm to determine the type of market or industry
it is operating in. Each of the five works as an individual factor in the microenvironment, but one
force could not exist without the out force in a stable economy. The five forces are Supplier Power,
Buyer Power, Threat of substitutes, the threat of new entrant and Competitive Rivalry. Three forces
affected the market horizontally while two affected, it vertically from each side. A review of the movie
rental market from the Porter s five forces. Competition Rivalry is at the center of the Diagram. This
force receives pressure from all of the remaining forces. The pressure from those forces defines the
way a competitor will be able to compete inside of an industry. A highly competitive market may
prohibit additional competitors from entering the marketplace. Lower competitors are willing to lower
prices cause a price war and maintain a low price that would slash or narrow a perspective competitor
from entering the marketplace. Current industry leaders are already having market share

The Oresteia Literary Analysis
The Oresteia is a story of tragedy and compromises an outline of revenge. In modern Western
principles, revenge appears to be a slightly restricted concern. However, in the hierarchical world of
Greece, revenge is an enacted and endorsed principle that is a societal norm. In the Oresteia, revenge
is used to examine the nature of human act and impulse, just like justice and transgression. The
Oresteia emphases on revenge happening within a family that leads to ferocity and differing
commitments. The concern with revenge opens a horizon to ferocity, responsibility, punishment, and
justice. Exacting its debt, vengeance shouts loud: let the payment for bloody blow be bloody blow.

Atreus wife. On planning the revenge against Thyestes, Atreus pretended to reconcile with Thyestes
by having dinner. Atreus revenge was cruel and made the innocent suffer; being the children of
Thyestes. Atreus had to kill, cook, and serve Thyestes his own children. The revenge between Atreus
and Thyestes did not only come from the adultery committed, but from both of them wanting to obtain
power. It was thought that Gods would indicate with signs who were supposed to get the power.
Atreus found a golden lamb thinking that that was the Gods sign of power belonging to him; however,
Thyesetes, being so envious, he asked Aerope to take that golden lamb for him so he can have the
power. In fact, the stories behind Atreus and Thyestes are part of unique cruelty tragedies in the Greek
Mythology. In the Eumenides, Orestes wants revenge. He wants to kill his mother Clytemnestra for
having killed Agamemnon. Clytemnestra asks Orestes if he is not afraid of a mother s curse but he

A Brief Note On The Federal Aviation Agency Essay
dministration (FAA) is a federal agency within the United States Department of Transportation.
The Federal Aviation Administration was first named the Federal Aviation Agency . The Federal
Aviation Agency was established when the Federal Aviation Act of 1958 was created. With the
creation of the Federal Aviation Act of 1958 it then gave more responsibilities to the FAA. These
responsibilities included complete control of oversight and regulation for safety within the aviation
industry. And the FAA was also responsible for military and civilian aircrafts within American
airspace. This was a great idea because it s better to have one agency overseeing both entities to
ensure accuracy and safety. Since there is one agency responsible for oversight this will lead to faster
problem solving because this agency has the final say and it does not have to rely or get a
confirmation from another agency about a particular issue relating to American airspace. The Federal
Aviation Agency name was changed to the Federal Aviation Administration when the United State
Department of Transportation adopted the Federal Aviation Agency. *** you input: collabration,

What I found out is that after doing the lab is that there are three cycles that the CPU goes through in
order for the program to be executed. I was able to come up with small programs for 2a and 3b that
will execute according to the instructions given in the lab, which is shown below.
Conclusions:
I thought this lab was really awesome because I was able to construct a machine language program in
binary code, as well as being able to put together a short assembly language program. What I have

Investment Case Study
Do the circumstances surrounding the sale of the Collinsville plant play any role in your willingness to
buy the assets? If so, how, if not, why not?
On the one hand, the circumstances of the sale make me less willing to buy. In particular, both
Universal and the federal government think that American s acquisition creates antitrust issues. If this
is the case, American could use its market power to change the nature of the market and make Dixon s
new plant unprofitable by setting lower prices for sodium chlorate in its other plants. On the other
hand, the circumstances make me more willing to buy the assets because American has to divest the
plant to comply with a court order. Therefore, they have less leverage during the sale ... Show more

With these assumptions, the present value of the total cash flows value the plant at $7.9M.[5] Under
this valuation, the $12M offer seems high and that Dixon should not make the investment without the
laminate technology. Even if we relax the assumptions and use the lower end WACC in our range of
14.5% and assume that capital expenditures will be the low end of the range at $475k per annum after
1984, the deal at $12M would still be dilutive because the DCF value is still only $8.9M.[6] At the
other extreme, assuming a WACC of 18.5% and capital expenditures of $600k per annum, the plant is
only worth $7.5M.
While the model above does not account for the return of working capital at the end of year in 1989,
the discounted value of this working capital is only worth about $650k and therefore does not
substantially alter the analysis.
Given this analysis, the deal is dilutive and Dixon should not make the investment.
2) Evaluate the marginal impact of the laminate technology (i.e. net present value of the costs savings
and expenses assuming that without laminate, graphite costs go up 5% per year after 1984 and power
costs rise 12% after 1984).
The laminate technology requires an upfront capital expenditure of $2.25M that can be straight line
depreciated over 10 years. This laminate will eliminate graphite costs completely and reduce power
costs by 15 20%. Assuming the

Why Is Sociological Research Important
We know what we know because our parents and grandparents have thought us many things. The
traditions we follow were passed down from many generations. We trust them because they have
worked for many years. And people in the family or colony are still practicing those same traditions.
For example, when we have a wedding the bride always wears blue. It has been that way since the
Huterrites came to America, or the tradition could have come from even farther back. According to the
text Much of our knowledge us based on tradition, a handing down of statements, beliefs, and customs

Why Is Sociological Research Important in Our Everyday Lives? Cite Specific examples from your
own life in your response. We need it in our everyday lives because it helps us understand why people
do what they do. Like when we ask our minister if we can do something and he says no, then we have
to accept it and take no for an answer, trusting he had a good reason why he said no. Because he
always has a good reason when he says something. Sometimes he says no because he doesn t want us
to get hurt emotionally or physically, which we could. Sometimes we think adults don t let us do
things just to control us and to make our lives miserable, which I believe a lot. But do they really, or
are they just trying to teach us something because they made the same mistake. But I also think that
we all need to learn from our mistakes, as much as our parents love us they can t always teach us to do
something different because they made that mistake. We sometimes have to learn it on our own, our
parents have been through much more in life then we have, so they understand quite clearly what we
are going through. For example my sister and I really want a dog and my parents say NO every time
because they are afraid we won t take care of him or something like

The Fallout
If a nuclear fallout were to occur, the earth would turn into a radiated wasteland. The earth would be
essentially non liveable, but it could be possible to survive. People, with the help of fallout shelters
and bunkers, would be able to survive the initial attack and quite possibly live in the shelters until the
radiation has dropped to a level in which they can survive.
Now, the difference between a nuclear explosion and a convention explosion is that a nuclear
explosion can be thousands, or even millions of times more powerful than the largest conventional
detonations. There are a few different places a nuclear weapon can erupt at. These explosions are
called air, high altitude, underwater, underground, and surface ... Show more content on

Bunkers and shelters all over the world would be packed with as many people as they can fit and some
would be overrun with hoards of people trying to get in. The world would panic and do what they
think would help them survive. The initial attack of a nuclear weapon would be catastrophic. The blast
of these bombs would cause massive destruction. City areas would be completely destroyed by
overpressures of 5 psi. These explosions can produce around an overpressure of 50 psi. If an explosion
occurs above ground, the blast wave is reflected off the ground, causing a second wave to follow the
first. Behind the blast wave comes the thermal radiation; two pulses of thermal radiation emerge from
the explosion. The first pulse consists of radiation in the ultraviolet region, and the second pulse
carries around ninety nine percent of the thermal radiation energy. Along with the thermal radiation is
the fireball, an extremely hot and spherical mass of air, which occurs in less than one millionth of a
second of detonation and continues to grow in size. The fireball will grow and cool down, then the
vapors condense to create a cloud containing solid particles of the weapons debris. This cloud is
widely know as The Mushroom Cloud . In some conditions, the many fires created by the explosion
can turn into a massive fire known as a Firestorm .

My Instructional Design For Developing My Students ...
The theoretical framewok that informed my instructional design for developing my students
communicative competency in Spanish is the work of Helena Anderson Curtain and Carol Ann
Dahlberg Languages and Children, Making the Match (2004) which ...emphasize the importance of a
thematic center to support comprehension, providing a context to involve students in use of the target
language . Their theory links to my planning and instructions as I use a thematic center on health to
achieve the learning objectives and allow students to engage in conversations. My instructional design
is also inform by the Howard Gardener s theory on multiple intelligences (Gardner, Howard. Frames

students learn information through a variety of sensory modalities. My theoretical framework is also

Secret Life Of Bees Analysis
In 1960 the Civil Right Act occurred which allowed African Americans more rights in return this
return more attention to racism. American Sue Monk Kidd s The Secret Life of Bees suggests that
accepting taboo actions does not necessarily compromises a person s moral compass and can lead to
an awareness and understanding of the world. In the first couple of chapters we see Roseleen, an
African American servant standing up to a group of white guys. Rosaleen lifted her snuff which was
filled with black spot, and calmly poured it across the shoes of the men s shoes moving her hand in
little loops like she was writing her name Rosaleen Daise just the way she d practiced. (pg 32) This
quote shows that Roseleen will not take crap from anybody. She is willing to protect her freedom and
her rights. She stood up to the racism she had endured and by doing so, stood up for herself and the
oppressed. The action of an African American woman pouring snuff on the shoes of a white male, then
being able to break out of jail itself is a taboo of that time period. By having a strong will woman of
color that is taking action because she was denied the right to be able to vote shows the injustice and
prejudice of the time period. Roseleen standing up for herself is the first part of many that sheds light
on unspoken issues.
Similar to Rosaleen, August is shown as an independent business woman, unlike a stereotypic women
of that time period. Having a smart business woman in the novel creates

Analysis Of I Ll Be Forty-Three On Friday
I ll Be Forty Three on Friday (How I m Living Now) presents a relatively simple premise that of a
man on the precipice of growing older walking through a park and thinking while revealing a complex
lens into life as the man perceives it. This complexity is present throughout the story within the
artwork, which features thin, unsteady lines and a notable absence of panel borders. The thin, unsteady
lines feel uncertain, failing to strongly assert themselves. They also leave plenty of negative space on
the page, especially on page 6, often merely suggesting the presence of an object through the absence
of line, a style which reflects recurring themes in American Splendor, where the presence or
significance of something is merely hinted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Visually, panel 4 moves its focus back onto Pekar. He is no longer a full figure, taking up the entire
space in the panel with his head and arms with his face becomes more visible as well. Additionally,
the language in the caption reflects this refocus, using the first person plural pronoun we as opposed to
the third person they used in tier 2. This shift, while making the language in the caption more
personal, also admits that Pekar feels comfortable including himself in the group about which he is
speaking when he says we really think we re very important.... After all, we re the only ones living in
our heads. Panel 5 draws the focus even closer in on Pekar. He begins to talk about his interpretation
of what significance is valuable, saying that in a hundred years maybe it won t matter, but the trouble
is that in the next few hours or days or weeks it matters a lot. Within the caption, the timeline
considered for the rest of the page shrinks, and with the reappearance of the first person I pronoun, so
too does the scope of humanity being considered. The Pekar figure finally shifts to a standing position
in this panel, with his face turned skyward in the clearest depiction of it seen on this page. His mind is
a little clearer, and his standing pose suggests that he feels more in control of his thoughts and himself
than he was earlier on in the

The Catholic Church And Nazi Party Essay
One is a faith that billions of people have worshiped for hundreds of years, and the other is a regime
based on racist theories. Catholicism and Nazism. These two congregations have more in common
than anyone could have imagined. Both had principles and theories. History shows that both parties
shared hatred and sought out those they disapproved of for questioning, torture and even execution.
The medieval Catholic Church and Nazi Party had common motives. However, those in disagreement
argue that one is a faith and the other is politics. The actions of the Nazi Party were distinct
replications of those of the medieval Roman Catholic Church, which is a reminder to all that any
prevailing party, whether it be political or religious, can command a threatening power.
Catholicism was a prominent religion for over 1,000 years. Before the Reformation of the 1500s,
anyone who was Christian belonged to the Catholic Church any other form of Christianity was
considered a denomination. To eliminate denominations, the Church turned to inquisition. The Papal
Inquisition began in the late 12th century, when Pope Innocent III sent cardinals to Southern France,
where heresy was popularizing. However, the official inauguration is considered 1231, when Pope
Gregory IX sent Dominicans to Southern France, Germany, Austria, Lombardy, and Aragon to convict
heretics. Heretics were granted the chance to admit their deceit and return to the Roman Catholic
Church. If their heresy was sustained,

because she remembers the sun and they don t believe her because last time the sun came they were

They only know the sun by blushing the Author says. This shows a way of metaphor, because this is

Grapes Of Wrath Allusions
In his novel Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck integrated many biblical references and values
throughout the book. This provided a more intriguing and complex style of writing that he used to tell
about the Dust Bowl of the early 1900 s and the arduous journey the Joad family and many others took
to reach California. The first biblical reference is revealed when the Joad family leaves for California.

Another biblical reference is shown when the Joad s move to California. Their journey to California
from Oklahoma is a biblical reference due to the similarity to the exodus of the Jews to Israel from
Egypt. This is distinguished by the similarities between the Joad s and the Jews, the Joad s were
captives of their farm while the Jews were captives of Egypt. Throughout their journey, Ma becomes a
Moses like figure but leading the family through hard times and tries to keep the family together. She
kept the family moving towards California even though Grandma was dead in her lap. California was
the promised land for the Joad s and other Okies and Ma led the family there. California brings about
another biblical allusion. As part of Moses bringing his people out of Egypt, he told of a promised
land to where he would take the Israelites, and that land was Canaan. For the Joad s and many other
migrants, California was the promised land they were searching for. Apart from both of the promised
lands beginning with the letter C, they had many things in common. The vineyards, the orchards, the
great flat valley, green and beautiful...the peach trees and the walnut groves, and the dark green
patches of oranges (Steinbeck 227). This is an allusion to the promised land of the Jews, where in
Numbers 13:27 it states We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and
honey! Here is its fruit (Zondervan 207). Both lands were bursting with

International Car Buying Behaviour
Total worldwide sales of premium luxury and entry luxury saloons and sports cars are of the order of

This is
because retail customers are amateur purchasers who spend their own money for non routine
consumption. Thus, they seek to gain experiential or symbolic (Keller, 1993) benefits from the car
brand instead. This demonstrates that there exist differences in specificity among individual
customers. Specificity may depend largely on how buyers discriminate, between essential and special
need (Oliver, 1997: 54) in importance: in other words needs and wants. If some buyers regard
importance as meaning essential, then all requisite features of the cars, such as maximum speed,
acceleration rate, horse power, and engine size become very important. On the other hand, if buyers
perceive importance as a special need, then some features may not be anticipated. For example, if the
luxury car buyer is only interested in the country of origin of the brand (German in this case), then the
technical characteristics will be unimportant. When customers seek to purchase a product, they pay
attention to whether the product will satisfy basic needs and desires in their lives. Here, the fleet car
customers have the basic needs (to choose a cost effective car), and desires (to possess a luxury car).
The most reasonable choice is Lexus GS300 SE. However, most retail customers have a more
preferable attitude towards BMW 728i. When having to select among alternatives, customers are
interested in differences across brands in the same product

may not be immediately recognized as mononucleosis. In most cases, mono symptoms are mild and
can be resolved at home. Mono is not typically serious and usually clears up within one to two

symptoms of mononucleosis are severe fatigue, headaches, jaundice, tiny red spots inside the mouth,

The female reproductive system is composed of the breasts...
The female reproductive system is composed of the breasts and a number of systems in the lower
torso. The ovaries are where a number of crucial things happen. The ovaries are two identical glands
that are almond shaped, about one inch in length and located in the pelvic cavity. The ovaries produce
the primary female hormones, estrogen and progesterone. As well, the ovaries produce the female
gamete or egg. All the rest if the organs related too reproduction are all centred around the eggs that
the ovaries produce. Ligaments help support the ovaries and keep them in place relative to the uterus

Outwardly the menstrual cycle is demonstrated by bleeding which lasts three to seven days. Two
different hormones (luteinizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone), which are produced in the
pituitary gland are what then stimulate the ovaries to produce estrogen and progesterone. The
menstrual cycle can be broken down into three main phases.
After puberty every month one egg in one of the two ovaries matures and is then sent out to the
fallopian tubes. There are two fallopian tubes, one connected to each ovary. The fallopian tubes meet
in the middle in a structure called the uterus. Each month when the egg is released from the ovaries,
which is called ovulation, hair like projections in the fallopian tubes help push the egg along the tube
to its destination. The fallopian tubes are not directly connected to the ovaries so when an egg is
released it is caught by a fimbria, which facilitates getting the egg from the ovaries to the fallopian
tubes. The egg is also pushed along the fallopian tubes by contractions in conduction with the cilia (3).
The uterus cavity varies on size depending on whether the female has given birth before or not, but the
size of a uterus for a woman who has never given birth is about the size of a pear. The uterus is located
behind the bladder and in front of the bowel, the uterus is situated at an angle that varies depending on
each person, but in the

The Vietnam War Changed America
The Vietnam War greatly changed America forever. It was the longest war fought in America s
History, lasting from 1955 to 1973. The Vietnam War tarnished America s self image by becoming the
first time in history the United States failed to accomplish its stated war aims, to preserve a separate,
independent, noncommunist government. The war also had great effects on the American people. It
was the first war ever broadcast on television. The public was able to see what happened on the
battlefield. One of the chief effects of the war was the division it caused among the people. Not since
the Civil War had America been so divided. This war would have lasting affects on the United States.
Many people to this day still believe that America had no business getting involved in the Vietnam
War. It was a very controversial decision made by John. F Kennedy to send over American troops to
aid in the battle against communism. The people that supported this decision to participate in the war
always said that it would work out better for the United States in the long run. Well, they could not be
more wrong. America entering into the vietnam war was the least helpful thing to America in the long
run. Simply it took America s self image and through it in the garbage. The Vietnam war, for the
Americans, was an unwinnable war. The half a million United States troops as well as the 700,000
southern Vietnamese troops were no match for the 250,000 northern vietnamese troops. The

I believe we should cease making speech after speech accepting that our fate, and the fate of the
world, will inevitably be decided by the operation of impersonal, uncontrolled market forces and the
sooner we accept this the better off we will be. Let us examine the matter form an even more logical
point of view. According to the Gleaner dated Wednesday September 10, 2008 in the business section,
The European Union represents a market of 490 million people, but critics of the agreement say that
regional businesses are too small to adequately exploit such large markets, and that those companies

Essay on Theory Of Knowledge
Theory Of Knowledge In today s society, science is regarded as being the most trusted form of
knowledge, leading to many claiming it to be the supreme form of knowledge. To investigate whether
or not this is justified we must compare science to other forms/areas of knowledge and consider what
they each contribute. The strongest argument science has to claim this title, is the objectivity and
empirical nature of its method and in particular its verifying processes; mainly based on inductive and
deductive reasoning. Modern science is closely related to inductive reasoning and is presented as a
distinctive feature of scientific activity today. Induction works by verification: correspondence ...

The most prolific of these adapted verification processes are the Hypothetico deductive model, a
modern formulation associated with famous scientists such as Popper and Hemple. It works by using a
combination of both verification techniques, claiming that what distinguishes scientific hypothesis
from a non scientific hypothesis is not its origin, but the formers capacity to stand up to testing. The
name comes from the claim that the starting point is the hypothesis, from which we can predict that
particular events will occur under particular circumstances. This prediction is a deduction from the
initial hypothesis, and if events occur as predicted then the hypothesis is confirmed. Confirmation of
the hypothesis is inductive, simply because if the hypothesis holds true x number of times, we claim
that it always will hold true. This confirmation of the hypothesis process is the part of the model that
encompasses inductive reasoning, as when using this method one only has access to a limited number
of events. Although the Hypothetico model was developed to incorporate advantages of both types of
verifications, by using inductive reasoning as confirmation processes, it is still affected by the
fundamental flaws of inductivism and basic criticism of the original scientific model. Questions such

Going To Eat At Home Or Restaurants Essay
People all around the world are busy. Busy with school, work, and other extra activities. People find
that going out to a restaurant would be quicker and more convenient. The fact remains that people
have to eat, whether it be cooking at home or going out. Though cooking at home and eating out are
are completely different ways to eat, they could not be any more different in quality, portion, and cost.
When families eat at home, they know the ingredients that have been added to their meals and the
quality of the food. Moreover, they know the cleanliness of where the food has been prepared. At
home, they know if the person preparing has washed his/her hands. When going out to eat, the family
has no idea what happens in the kitchen. Their food could have been spit on, dropped, or even
possibly a hair from a cook could fall into their dish. The quality of food is important to the consumer,
due to if the food does not taste well, more than likely they will not eat it. Also, the restaurant serves
sometimes less quality than what you buy and less quantity. When going out to eat at a restaurant,
people prefer to recieve their money s worth in the food they order. That typically comes down to
portion sizes. as unhealthy as it is, most people do not know the proper portion and tend to eat the
entire meal that is presented to them. While, at home, when families cook the meal themselves, the
portions are smaller due to the recommended serving size of the meal. Most restaurants are guilty of
serving anywhere from double to triple a normal food portion. Portion control is an important part in
food. That makes it important to understand what a recommended serving size is for the food prepared
is, and only ordering that amount. When families prepare their meals at home, they are able to control
what goes on the plate, and what not to eat. Eating out at restaurants are typically portioned
excessively, and some dishes can contain an entire day s worth of calories.
It s hard to beat the convenience of going to a restaurant and having cooks prepare and serve the food
is relaxing and eliminates the hassle of having to cook dinner. On the other hand, there are many great
benefits of that cooking at home, such as price. The

The Wellcome Collection Museum Analysis
The Wellcome Collection is a London museum that explores the connections between medicine, life
and art in the past, present and future. One of the prominent ways in which The Wellcome Collection
is utilising digital media is through the use of digital storytelling. This is a relatively new term that
describes a form of digital media production that allows people to share stories through video,
animation, photography, and audio. This makes the stories compelling and emotionally engaging, and,
like narrative based computer games, often involve user interaction. The resources available to
incorporate into a digital story are virtually limitless, giving the storyteller enormous creative latitude.

Chris Mccandless Argumentative Essay
Having to live and act a certain way towards the outside world when you feel completely different on
the inside would make one feel trapped and restricted. Restricted from being free to be who they really
are. Everyone deserves the freedom to have the opportunity to live life the way they feel they were
born to live it. Why do we criticize Chris McCandless for doing that same thing? I can relate to Chris s
desire to live life according to his dreams, not his parents. Chris came from a very well off family with
high expectations as you would imagine from a family with their financial success. So much so that
Walt and Billie McCandless instilled in Chris he had to finish college to move forward with his life, as

know this, because those are the same feelings I felt when I left for the military. Ultimately, what
really ties us together is the fact that at the end of both our adventures we felt like a better person for
the experience. Chris confirmed it with us when he wrote this, I have had a happy life and thank the
lord, goodbye and God bless all (Krakauer 199). Everything I endured throughout my life has made

Abstract: Effect of various concentrations of NSAIDs (Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs) on
growth of commercial probiotic preparations (A, B, C, and D) were observed by agar well diffusion
assay. Zone of inhibition was recorded after 24 h and found that different samples of probiotics
showed more or less susceptibility to different doses of NSAIDs. This indicates that NSAIDs beside
anti inflammatory response may give antibiotic effect as well.
Keywords: NSAIDs, antibiotic, probiotics.
1. Introduction:
According to the definition by WHO and FAO, probiotics are live microorganisms which when
administered in adequate amounts confers a health benefit on the host. Probiotics are available to
consumers mainly in the form of foods and as dietary supplements.
NSAIDs have analgesic, antipyretic effects and also have anti inflammatory effects in higher doses.
Use of NSAID is associated with increased risk of gastrointestinal and cardiovascular effects mainly
due to the inhibition of prostanoid biosynthesis. NSAIDs have many applications in pharmacokinetics
and medicinal.
This review aims to examine antimicrobial property of NSAIDs (ibuprofen, aspirin, and diclofenac).
2. Materials and Methods:

  • 2. The Charge Of The Light Brigade Poem Imagine charging into a battle where the odds of winning are close to none. Now imagine charging forward where the enemy is attacking from three sides. This was the reality for a certain British Brigade during the Crimean War in 1854. In his 1854 poem, The Charge of the Light Brigade, Alfred, Lord Tennyson describes the Battle of Balaclava where the British ride into their untimely death. Tennyson ends the poem with a significant few lines that read, Honor the charge they made/Honor the light Brigade/Noble six hundred. (Lines 53 55). By looking at the last lines Tennyson writes in his poem, one is able to realize the significance of the Charge of the Light Brigade, and how these lines add to the glorification of war and honor theme seen throughout the poem. The Light Brigade was a unit of British men who misinterpreted the orders given to them by the commander in chief of the British army during the Crimean war. In the result of this misinterpretation, the Light Brigade charged into heavy Russian artillery where they were attacked from three sides (Greenspan). Tennyson describes this scene in his poem when he states, Cannon to the right of them/Cannon to the left of them/Cannon in front of them, (Lines 18 20). The British cavalry was slaughtered as they headed down into what is known as The Valley of Death (Greenspan). According to the poem, there were six hundred men who fought in this charge. By stating that they were noble, Tennyson believes these men to be of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Tartuffe Essay Tartuffe In his most notorious play Tartuffe, Molière relates the story of an attempt, by a manipulative hypocrite, to destroy the domestic happiness of a citizen who, charmed by his seeming piety, has taken him into his home as a respectable guest. The play was disallowed after its first performance because it was deemed anti religion. However this ruling was made unfairly since true religion is never confounded with hypocrisy, but is upheld with warmth, which shows his characteristic hatred of imposture in any shape. Their zeal isn t excessive, and it never seems The interests of God have pushed them to extremes. These are my heroes. They re the men I think are great. And they re the men whom I would want to imitate. On first seeing Tartuffe performed in Versailles, the King immediately recognized and appreciated its genius. He understood that it was strictly addressing hypocrisy, however concern about the play began to grow as its performance moved to Paris. Molière s adversaries claimed that under the fake motive of trying to expose hypocrisy, he actually sought to undermine the foundations of religion itself. Pressure from the opposition, which included the Catholic Church, the archbishop of Paris, the Queen Mother Anne of Austria, and the Company of the Holy Sacrament forced Louis XIV to ban the play in Paris. The argument could be made that The King s initial approval stemmed from the fact that Tartuffe includes patronage in the form of not so subtle flattery and references to Louis XIV and his family and associates, rather than the theme of hypocrisy versus sincerity. One instance of this being in the final act where the King s authorities come to arrest Tartuffe for a history of swindling people out of their fortune. The officer refers to his King as: He sees things as they are; you ll find that wicked schemes Don t take him by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The World Of The House By Oscar Wilde Wordplay is used extensively in all of Oscar Wilde s plays, and perhaps never more so than in The Importance of Being Earnest, where every scene is peppered with double entendres, puns and aphorisms. The world of the play is a high parody of Victorian society at the time it both follows the rules and doesn t; norms are undermined through wordplay, and language is endlessly adaptable through puns and paradoxes. Sos Eltis notes of the characters in this play that nothing stands in the way of their self creation, for reality itself is infinitely adaptable. His name was Ernest all along, after all, so to his own surprise as much as anyone else s, it turns out that Jack was being honest throughout the play (about his name, that is all other Bunburying aside). Wilde makes use of puns for a variety of reasons in this play. Some of his punning reveals something about the character speaking, for instance when Algernon speaks of his musical prowess at the beginning of the play: As far as the piano is concerned, sentiment is my forte. This is a play on the word forte , which means both my strength as well as being a musical term related to piano playing. The pun ties into Eltis s idea of the language of the play adapting reality sentiment is indeed Algernon s forte, as we see again and again throughout the play (more on this later). Algernon s talent for sentiment outweighs any obligation he may feel for honesty. For Algernon, life is not about rules, and because of his adaptability he never has to take anything seriously. Another type of pun used by Wilde in the play is the double entendre, in this quote from Lady Bracknell a play on the word terminus : Mr. Worthing, is Miss Cardew at all connected ... with any of the larger railway stations in London? The practice of Nyingma also teaches the gradual discovery of self and to purify the mind. In class, we watched a documentary movie called, Cave in the Snow . In honor of this monumental event, residents of Blythe joined in with millions of people around the country on May 4, to call humbly before God, seeking his guidance for local, state and federal leaders and current issues. Asking for God s grace to fall upon this lost world, members of the community opened up the program with prayer, followed by singing, America The Beautiful. Being reminded by the lyrics of the song, voices punctuated the line God shed His grace on thee. With this year s theme inspired by Daniel 9:19, master of ceremony Clifford Short said, For Your Great Name s Sake! Hear Us, Forgive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He said, If we ever forget the that we are One Nation under God, then we will be a Nation gone under, Short recited. With over five pastors in attendance and 20 plus of their church members present, prayer began around 5:30 p.m. Turning to 2 Chronicles 7:14, Short read, If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. • 9. Advice For First Writing Course At The University Of... Advice to First Writing Course at the University of Central Florida Writing courses can be challenging and that is why I decided to write this personal narrative. I believe that a personal narrative is better for an advice column than a research paper. A personal narrative would give more personal experience and insight on how the course was. It would be more valid since it is true. I think people learn better when they read and hear something from the person they are talking to rather than being about other people, especially when it comes to advice. Students should also learn to adapt to different writing contexts. Throughout this course, I had to learn new vocabulary such as rhetorical situation and discourse community. These are actually types of essays I had to write during this course. When writing these types of essays, one has to keep in mind their audiences and their own experience. Lastly, students will consider how social, rhetorical, and technological contexts shape writing because it reflects sensitivity to school writing as a social affair (McCarthy 231). There are some constraints that I had to think about when deciding the genre of this paper. One constraint to this personal narrative is the time I took this course. I took ENC 1101 during the Summer B section. Summer B was only six weeks long and I had to learn the concepts of this course in that amount of time when it usually takes around sixteen weeks. This made the course much harder for me and other students. Especially because English is my second language, it takes me longer to read and analyze articles. This was also one out of two of my first classes as a college students. It is a different environment and I had to adapt to different situations and expectations. Another constraint is about those students that already have credit for ENC ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Porter s Five Forces The Porter s five forces is a competitive position analysis and business strategy format created by Michael Porter in 1979. The premise behind the format is to provide them with five forces that shape every industry. Mr. Porter s theory is that if a company analyzed the information received from reviewing the five forces, the company would be able to compete in a higher fashion against its competitions. Following the five forces would allow a firm to determine the type of market or industry it is operating in. Each of the five works as an individual factor in the microenvironment, but one force could not exist without the out force in a stable economy. The five forces are Supplier Power, Buyer Power, Threat of substitutes, the threat of new entrant and Competitive Rivalry. Three forces affected the market horizontally while two affected, it vertically from each side. A review of the movie rental market from the Porter s five forces. Competition Rivalry is at the center of the Diagram. This force receives pressure from all of the remaining forces. The pressure from those forces defines the way a competitor will be able to compete inside of an industry. However, in the hierarchical world of Greece, revenge is an enacted and endorsed principle that is a societal norm. In the Oresteia, revenge is used to examine the nature of human act and impulse, just like justice and transgression. The Oresteia emphases on revenge happening within a family that leads to ferocity and differing commitments. The concern with revenge opens a horizon to ferocity, responsibility, punishment, and justice. Exacting its debt, vengeance shouts loud: let the payment for bloody blow be bloody blow. Atreus had to kill, cook, and serve Thyestes his own children. The revenge between Atreus and Thyestes did not only come from the adultery committed, but from both of them wanting to obtain power. It was thought that Gods would indicate with signs who were supposed to get the power. Atreus found a golden lamb thinking that that was the Gods sign of power belonging to him; however, Thyesetes, being so envious, he asked Aerope to take that golden lamb for him so he can have the power. • 13. A Brief Note On The Federal Aviation Agency Essay dministration (FAA) is a federal agency within the United States Department of Transportation. The Federal Aviation Administration was first named the Federal Aviation Agency . The Federal Aviation Agency was established when the Federal Aviation Act of 1958 was created. With the creation of the Federal Aviation Act of 1958 it then gave more responsibilities to the FAA. These responsibilities included complete control of oversight and regulation for safety within the aviation industry. And the FAA was also responsible for military and civilian aircrafts within American airspace. This was a great idea because it s better to have one agency overseeing both entities to ensure accuracy and safety. Since there is one agency responsible for oversight this will lead to faster problem solving because this agency has the final say and it does not have to rely or get a confirmation from another agency about a particular issue relating to American airspace. • 19. Investment Case Study Do the circumstances surrounding the sale of the Collinsville plant play any role in your willingness to buy the assets? If so, how, if not, why not? On the one hand, the circumstances of the sale make me less willing to buy. In particular, both Universal and the federal government think that American s acquisition creates antitrust issues. If this is the case, American could use its market power to change the nature of the market and make Dixon s new plant unprofitable by setting lower prices for sodium chlorate in its other plants. On the other hand, the circumstances make me more willing to buy the assets because American has to divest the plant to comply with a court order. Therefore, they have less leverage during the sale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With these assumptions, the present value of the total cash flows value the plant at $7.9M.[5] Under this valuation, the $12M offer seems high and that Dixon should not make the investment without the laminate technology. Even if we relax the assumptions and use the lower end WACC in our range of 14.5% and assume that capital expenditures will be the low end of the range at $475k per annum after 1984, the deal at $12M would still be dilutive because the DCF value is still only $8.9M.[6] At the other extreme, assuming a WACC of 18.5% and capital expenditures of $600k per annum, the plant is only worth $7.5M. While the model above does not account for the return of working capital at the end of year in 1989, the discounted value of this working capital is only worth about $650k and therefore does not substantially alter the analysis. Given this analysis, the deal is dilutive and Dixon should not make the investment. 2) Evaluate the marginal impact of the laminate technology (i.e. net present value of the costs savings and expenses assuming that without laminate, graphite costs go up 5% per year after 1984 and power costs rise 12% after 1984). We need it in our everyday lives because it helps us understand why people do what they do. Like when we ask our minister if we can do something and he says no, then we have to accept it and take no for an answer, trusting he had a good reason why he said no. Because he always has a good reason when he says something. Sometimes he says no because he doesn t want us to get hurt emotionally or physically, which we could. Sometimes we think adults don t let us do things just to control us and to make our lives miserable, which I believe a lot. But do they really, or are they just trying to teach us something because they made the same mistake. But I also think that we all need to learn from our mistakes, as much as our parents love us they can t always teach us to do something different because they made that mistake. We sometimes have to learn it on our own, our parents have been through much more in life then we have, so they understand quite clearly what we are going through. City areas would be completely destroyed by overpressures of 5 psi. These explosions can produce around an overpressure of 50 psi. If an explosion occurs above ground, the blast wave is reflected off the ground, causing a second wave to follow the first. Behind the blast wave comes the thermal radiation; two pulses of thermal radiation emerge from the explosion. The first pulse consists of radiation in the ultraviolet region, and the second pulse carries around ninety nine percent of the thermal radiation energy. Along with the thermal radiation is the fireball, an extremely hot and spherical mass of air, which occurs in less than one millionth of a second of detonation and continues to grow in size. The fireball will grow and cool down, then the vapors condense to create a cloud containing solid particles of the weapons debris. This cloud is widely know as The Mushroom Cloud . • 24. Secret Life Of Bees Analysis In 1960 the Civil Right Act occurred which allowed African Americans more rights in return this return more attention to racism. American Sue Monk Kidd s The Secret Life of Bees suggests that accepting taboo actions does not necessarily compromises a person s moral compass and can lead to an awareness and understanding of the world. In the first couple of chapters we see Roseleen, an African American servant standing up to a group of white guys. Rosaleen lifted her snuff which was filled with black spot, and calmly poured it across the shoes of the men s shoes moving her hand in little loops like she was writing her name Rosaleen Daise just the way she d practiced. (pg 32) This quote shows that Roseleen will not take crap from anybody. She is willing to protect her freedom and her rights. She stood up to the racism she had endured and by doing so, stood up for herself and the oppressed. The action of an African American woman pouring snuff on the shoes of a white male, then being able to break out of jail itself is a taboo of that time period. By having a strong will woman of color that is taking action because she was denied the right to be able to vote shows the injustice and prejudice of the time period. Roseleen standing up for herself is the first part of many that sheds light on unspoken issues. Catholicism and Nazism. These two congregations have more in common than anyone could have imagined. Both had principles and theories. History shows that both parties shared hatred and sought out those they disapproved of for questioning, torture and even execution. The medieval Catholic Church and Nazi Party had common motives. However, those in disagreement argue that one is a faith and the other is politics. The actions of the Nazi Party were distinct replications of those of the medieval Roman Catholic Church, which is a reminder to all that any prevailing party, whether it be political or religious, can command a threatening power. This provided a more intriguing and complex style of writing that he used to tell about the Dust Bowl of the early 1900 s and the arduous journey the Joad family and many others took to reach California. The first biblical reference is revealed when the Joad family leaves for California. the rest swarmed up on top of the load, Connie and Rose of Sharon, Pa and Uncle John, Ruthie and Winfield, Tom and the preacher. Their journey to California from Oklahoma is a biblical reference due to the similarity to the exodus of the Jews to Israel from Egypt. This is distinguished by the similarities between the Joad s and the Jews, the Joad s were captives of their farm while the Jews were captives of Egypt. Throughout their journey, Ma becomes a Moses like figure but leading the family through hard times and tries to keep the family together. She kept the family moving towards California even though Grandma was dead in her lap. California was the promised land for the Joad s and other Okies and Ma led the family there. California brings about another biblical allusion. As part of Moses bringing his people out of Egypt, he told of a promised land to where he would take the Israelites, and that land was Canaan. For the Joad s and many other migrants, California was the promised land they were searching for. Apart from both of the promised lands beginning with the letter C, they had many things in common. The vineyards, the orchards, the great flat valley, green and beautiful...the peach trees and the walnut groves, and the dark green patches of oranges (Steinbeck 227). This is an allusion to the promised land of the Jews, where in Numbers 13:27 it states We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Thus, they seek to gain experiential or symbolic (Keller, 1993) benefits from the car brand instead. This demonstrates that there exist differences in specificity among individual customers. Specificity may depend largely on how buyers discriminate, between essential and special need (Oliver, 1997: 54) in importance: in other words needs and wants. If some buyers regard importance as meaning essential, then all requisite features of the cars, such as maximum speed, acceleration rate, horse power, and engine size become very important. On the other hand, if buyers perceive importance as a special need, then some features may not be anticipated. For example, if the luxury car buyer is only interested in the country of origin of the brand (German in this case), then the technical characteristics will be unimportant. When customers seek to purchase a product, they pay attention to whether the product will satisfy basic needs and desires in their lives. Here, the fleet car customers have the basic needs (to choose a cost effective car), and desires (to possess a luxury car). The most reasonable choice is Lexus GS300 SE. However, most retail customers have a more preferable attitude towards BMW 728i. Two different hormones (luteinizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone), which are produced in the pituitary gland are what then stimulate the ovaries to produce estrogen and progesterone. The menstrual cycle can be broken down into three main phases. After puberty every month one egg in one of the two ovaries matures and is then sent out to the fallopian tubes. There are two fallopian tubes, one connected to each ovary. The fallopian tubes meet in the middle in a structure called the uterus. Each month when the egg is released from the ovaries, which is called ovulation, hair like projections in the fallopian tubes help push the egg along the tube to its destination. The fallopian tubes are not directly connected to the ovaries so when an egg is released it is caught by a fimbria, which facilitates getting the egg from the ovaries to the fallopian tubes. The egg is also pushed along the fallopian tubes by contractions in conduction with the cilia (3). The Vietnam War tarnished America s self image by becoming the first time in history the United States failed to accomplish its stated war aims, to preserve a separate, independent, noncommunist government. The war also had great effects on the American people. It was the first war ever broadcast on television. The public was able to see what happened on the battlefield. One of the chief effects of the war was the division it caused among the people. Not since the Civil War had America been so divided. This war would have lasting affects on the United States. Many people to this day still believe that America had no business getting involved in the Vietnam War. It was a very controversial decision made by John. F Kennedy to send over American troops to aid in the battle against communism. The people that supported this decision to participate in the war always said that it would work out better for the United States in the long run. Well, they could not be more wrong. America entering into the vietnam war was the least helpful thing to America in the long run. Simply it took America s self image and through it in the garbage. • 37. Essay on Theory Of Knowledge Theory Of Knowledge In today s society, science is regarded as being the most trusted form of knowledge, leading to many claiming it to be the supreme form of knowledge. To investigate whether or not this is justified we must compare science to other forms/areas of knowledge and consider what they each contribute. The strongest argument science has to claim this title, is the objectivity and empirical nature of its method and in particular its verifying processes; mainly based on inductive and deductive reasoning. Modern science is closely related to inductive reasoning and is presented as a distinctive feature of scientific activity today. Induction works by verification: correspondence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most prolific of these adapted verification processes are the Hypothetico deductive model, a modern formulation associated with famous scientists such as Popper and Hemple. It works by using a combination of both verification techniques, claiming that what distinguishes scientific hypothesis from a non scientific hypothesis is not its origin, but the formers capacity to stand up to testing. The name comes from the claim that the starting point is the hypothesis, from which we can predict that particular events will occur under particular circumstances. This prediction is a deduction from the initial hypothesis, and if events occur as predicted then the hypothesis is confirmed. Confirmation of the hypothesis is inductive, simply because if the hypothesis holds true x number of times, we claim that it always will hold true. This confirmation of the hypothesis process is the part of the model that encompasses inductive reasoning, as when using this method one only has access to a limited number of events. Although the Hypothetico model was developed to incorporate advantages of both types of verifications, by using inductive reasoning as confirmation processes, it is still affected by the fundamental flaws of inductivism and basic criticism of the original scientific model. • 38. Going To Eat At Home Or Restaurants Essay People all around the world are busy. Busy with school, work, and other extra activities. People find that going out to a restaurant would be quicker and more convenient. The fact remains that people have to eat, whether it be cooking at home or going out. Though cooking at home and eating out are are completely different ways to eat, they could not be any more different in quality, portion, and cost. When families eat at home, they know the ingredients that have been added to their meals and the quality of the food. Moreover, they know the cleanliness of where the food has been prepared. At home, they know if the person preparing has washed his/her hands. When going out to eat, the family has no idea what happens in the kitchen. Their food could have been spit on, dropped, or even possibly a hair from a cook could fall into their dish. The quality of food is important to the consumer, due to if the food does not taste well, more than likely they will not eat it. Also, the restaurant serves sometimes less quality than what you buy and less quantity. When going out to eat at a restaurant, people prefer to recieve their money s worth in the food they order. That typically comes down to portion sizes. as unhealthy as it is, most people do not know the proper portion and tend to eat the entire meal that is presented to them. While, at home, when families cook the meal themselves, the portions are smaller due to the recommended serving size of the meal. Most restaurants are guilty of serving anywhere from double to triple a normal food portion. Portion control is an important part in food. That makes it important to understand what a recommended serving size is for the food prepared is, and only ordering that amount. When families prepare their meals at home, they are able to control what goes on the plate, and what not to eat. Eating out at restaurants are typically portioned excessively, and some dishes can contain an entire day s worth of calories. It s hard to beat the convenience of going to a restaurant and having cooks prepare and serve the food is relaxing and eliminates the hassle of having to cook dinner.
