The American Colonial Life During The Late 1700 S
Whether by land or by sea, eighteenth century colonial travel was arduous, expensive, and many times
dangerous. Because of this, few people traveled very far from their homes. Transportation has changed
dramatically since the late 1700 s. It was during this time that Colonial America was budding as a new
country. This was before airplanes, which appeared in the very early stages of the 1900 s. Cars showed
up about the same time, so rewind about 200 plus years and we re back in colonial America. It wasn t
civilized like it is today. The dirt roads were bumpy, grimy, and when the rains came, they were mud
baths. So how did people during this time get around? Often, they didn t. Not many people could
afford the cost of travel back then. Daily American Colonial Life was extremely harsh for the first
settlers and colonists. They were faced with a new country, unknown territory and no friends, relatives
or neighbors to help them In those days, it was fairly expensive to travel. Because of this, generally
only government officials, merchants, and planters took the risk (Constitution Facts). Women were
supposed to stay home and look after the children while the husband went off to do business. America
was still a budding country, so there were not as many cities as there are now and they were more
spread out. If the man wanted to travel, it would require several hours, or even several days to ride on
horseback. Often the husband wouldn t return for a couple of days, and when he

Essay Comparing The Storm And The Story Of An Hour
Kate Chopin s The Storm and The Story of an Hour seem to be very similar in style by the way she
uses the era she lives in to make certain thoughts and ideas occur. Throughout both stories Kate
Chopin depicts how the women in her story are sexually oppressed and are looking for true love.. She
also shows how during her time in life women seemed to struggle with unhappy marriages and false
feelings of love.
The Storm is about a young boy and father that venture out and are soon caught in the middle of
storm. So they stop a local store for shelter but are worried for Clixta who is the boy s mother and man
s wife. While at home, Clixta is worried about her family as well but is soon visited by an old lover of
hers who is seeking shelter from the storm as well. As the story progresses Clixta soon finds herself
cheating on her husband as she makes love with her past lover not only to keep her mind off the storm

In The Story of an Hour they show that Mrs. Mallard is supposed to be sad about her husband dying
especially in the time period when women were supposed to be loyal to their husbands. Also, women
didn t have many rights during this point in time so leaving her husband wasn t an option. So when
Mr. Mallard is reported dead from a train accident she is happy because for once in her life she is free
from her horrible relationship. While In The Storm Clixta felt that her relationship between her and
Bobbinet was slowly fading away, so she decides to take advantage of her husband and son being
stuck at a store during the storm and allows her ex lover to take shelter in her house when she is fully
aware that it will more than likely lead to them having sex which in this case it does. The last
similarity that both of these stories have is that the women seem to be happy after something wrong

Civil War And A Revolution
According to the UN, the death toll in Syria almost reached two hundred thousand over the last three
and a half years, and the number of displaced Syrians reached 9.5 million. Because of the complexity
of the situation, a lot of people don t even know exactly what is happening over there. The first thing
that might pop into one s mind is that a civil war is going on there. On the other hand, others argue
that it is a revolution against oppression that has been brutally responded to. Evaluating the situation
in Syria requires solid understanding of specific terms of a civil war and a revolution. Also, is there a
general consensus on what a civil war or a revolution is? Can the situation in Syria simply be
classified into one of these two?
The first important thing to know is that there is no single definition of a civil war that historians or
political scientists have agreed upon. However, a commonly used definition to judge a situation is that
of the correlate of war project, which explains a civil war as a sustained military combat, primarily
internal, resulting in at least 1,000 battle deaths per year, in which government forces are in conflict
with a revolting force capable of effective resistance, determined by the latter s ability to inflict upon
the government forces at least 5% of the fatalities that the insurgents sustain. Under this classification,
there have been 53 civil wars from 1946 to 1992 (Civil War in the Post Colonial World 1946 92).

The Monster Of Living With Grief

The Monster of Living with Grief
As Keanu Reeves once said, Grief changes shapes, but it never ends ( Tragic ). When it comes to grief
there are usually five shapes or stages that people go through: denial, anger, bargaining, depression
and, finally, acceptance. The book A Monster Calls, by Patrick Ness, is about a young boy who is
struggling with school, bullies, friends, and family when his mother develops a terminal illness. He is
visited by the monster, a massive yew tree, who comes alive to teach Conor the ways of the world. He
also teaches Conor the truth in order to move past his mother s sickness. Ness shows how people in
both literature and real life tend to go through five stages of grief while dealing with a loved one who
has a terminal illness because of the overwhelming lamentation it inflicts.
The first stage of grief is as the sharks say in Finding Nemo, DENIAL. In the book, Conor s grandma
told him that his mother s condition would not get better with one of the new treatments. He denied it
by saying, The treatments are making her better... (42). Even though the treatments had not worked,
Conor refused to believe that the treatments will not work because he needs his mother to get better.
The American Psychological Association says that most people deny the problem because it is easier
to distance oneself from friends or family. Once a person isolates from those who can help, it can lead

Essay On Newark
Newark has only in recent years stemmed the population outflow. The city has begun in recent
decades to attract a high immigrant population, a reflection of its status as a major center in the New
York Metropolitan area, one of America s major gateway cities for new immigrants. The percentage of
foreign born residents in Newark is 26.5%, above the national average of 12.5%, and 44.5% of
residents speak a language other than English in the home (U.S. Census Bureau, 2008). The influx of
new immigrants can contribute to economic growth. Many such immigrants, especially when there are
limited outside employment prospects, turn to entrepreneurial activity.
The type of urban renewal that Newark is pursuing supports an increase in middle class professional ...

This strategy has focused on infrastructure investments (everything from sewers to arenas) and tax
cuts to attract investment and the development of new industries. The result is that Newark is showing
signs of economic renewal, in particular in its ability to attract middle class professionals back to the
city. Over time, this trend will create a more dynamic Newark with a diverse economic base and a
vibrant demographic. However, the impacts of these changes on the existing residents, most of whom
are poor minorities, are largely going to be negative. They have neither the education nor training to
take advantage of the new jobs and industries, and may find themselves priced out of their own
neighborhoods. Newark appears headed for economic renewal, but social renewal may be stifled by
rising tensions between the existing citizens and the new citizens that Newark intends to attract. These
citizens, already facing lower social spending as the city shifts its funding priorities to infrastructure
projects, may be compartmentalized into smaller pockets of the city or forced outside of Newark
altogether, resulting in civic disharmony that the city will need to manage in order to continue to
experience economic

Summary Of Digging By Seamus Heaney
The free verse poem called Digging by Seamus Heaney is about a boy who admires his father s work,
but wants to be different from him. The poem takes place at a farm in Toner s Bog; we know this
because during the time when he flashes back, the father and grandfather are working on digging, and
also because they are harvesting potatoes it must be on a farm. The poem is about the speaker who is a
boy, and who wants to be someone different from his father. He looks out the window when he hears a
rasping sound of his father putting the spade into the ground, and then he flashes back 20 years before.
Although he admires the work his father does, he himself does not have it in him to follow in his
footsteps. But I ve no spade to follow men like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Number Of Mobile Cellular Networks Operators Who Can...
The work has been able to verify that the number of mobile cellular network operators who can
effectively share infrastructure on a base station is limited by the following parameters:
Sensitivity degradation threshold
E field threshold or radiation limit
Allowable BTS noise floor limit
Require antenna isolation
Interference level (from spurious emission, leakages, etc.)
Tower wind loading
From the result, it was observed that six (6) GSM operators can share infrastructure for a passive
infrastructure sharing scheme without severe and unacceptable degradation of system performance.
For number of BTS operators greater than six (6), the noise floor becomes larger than 110dB, which is
not acceptable. However, as the number of users of a tower increase, the wind loading and tower
bending moment increases. Therefore, when designing towers, wind loading analysis for collocation
scenario should be carried out.
Among the parameters, the level of sensitivity degradation should be monitored closely, since its value
aid in determining system performance for a specific interference level and BTS noise floor, which
depends on the number of collocating operators. When the sensitivity degradation is greater than 3dB
it indicates that the interference threshold is larger than the noise floor limit, which is temperature and
bandwidth dependent.
It was also observed that the higher the antenna gain, the longer the antenna separating distance.
The coverage radius is affected by

The Challenges Of Smallholder Dairy Farming Systems
Climate change and variability (CCV) is one of the greatest challenges to Smallholder Dairy Farming
Systems (SDFS) yet demand for Animal Source Foods (ASF) is projected to rise (FAO, 2011) due to
population growth, urban migration coupled with increased spending in developing countries as a
result of improved incomes (Giovannucci et al., 2012). In Kenya SDFS form one of the most
important key livelihood strategies of rural communities with dominance over the national milk sector
accounting for 80% of total milk produced and a corresponding agricultural Gross Domestic Product
(GDP) of 30% (FAO, 2011a). Other factors that negatively impact SDFS include: poor agronomic
practices; reduced fodder and crop residue yields (; land fragmentation; ... Show more content on

taurus dominated systems (Knox et al., 2012; FAO, 2011a; FAO, 2014; Kabirizi et al., 2014; Niang et
al., 2014; Thornton and Herrero, 2014). Reduced LGP is likely to trigger shifts from SDFS (mixed
crop and livestock production) to more dominant livestock based production systems with a high
probability of offsetting the food balance due to increased frequency of failure of traditionally grown
crops (Anyamba et al., 2014; Niang et al., 2014). These scenarios lead to dynamic complexities and
dynamic farming systems where SDFS test and adopt both indigenous methods based on perceptions
of CCV and modern technologies that work best for increased productivity (Mertz et al., 2009; Below
et al, 2014). According to Giovannucci et al. (2012) rural urban migration in Sub Saharan Africa
(SSA) is associated with CCV (FAO, 2015) and directly impacts labour availability resulting to
women and the elderly taking on additional and non traditional gendered roles that include offering
social protection (WHO, 2011) thus increasing exposure to climate related risks that further affect
productivity (Beddington et al., 2012a; Giovannucci et al., 2012; FAO, 2015). Production is further
compounded by limited access and control over factors of production (land, credit, assets, knowledge,
technology and efficient extension services) (Giovannucci et al., 2012; Antwi Agyei et al., 2013) that
aid in adaptation strategies by women who own and manage most SDFS (FAO, 2015). Yet

Vibrio cholera

Taxonomy and Morphology
Vibrio cholerae is a gram negative bacterium which is causative agent for the diarrheal disease
cholera. Vibrio cholerae is a member of the Vibrionaceae family, which is a facultative anaerobic and
is capable of respiratory and fermentative metabolism. It does not form spores and its motility is due
to the single polar flagellum. Vibrios are highly halophylic and are very sensitive to low pH. (Nair,

Resistance to cholera may be related to the antibody, local immunoglobulin A against the cholera
bacterium or cholera enterotoxin. It can prevent the attachment of the bacteria to the mucosal surface
and also block the binding of cholera enterotoxin. IgA is found in breast milk, and breastfeeding can
increase the immunity of the infants to cholera and other diarrheal diseases. Patient s recovery from
cholera depends on the antibiotics or patient s own immune system and regeneration of the epithelial
cell s of the intestine. (Finkelstein, 1996)
Hygiene and sanitary control
Cholera is closely connected with the poor hygiene and sanitation. The simplest way to control this is
to protect drinking water and food from being contaminated with the human feces. For example,
education and compulsion may help to eradicate careless defecation by the people. Also, it is
necessary to provide such areas with temporary trench type latrines, and the powdered chloride should
be dropped over excreta and soiled surfaces in and around latrines. In the cities, the public latrines
should be maintained properly. Safe disposal of excretes should be certainly done to prevent the
contamination of water sources. Before the sewage would be poured into the rivers and lakes, it
should be chlorinated. (Formadi, 2007)

Spanish American War Research Paper
A Growth in National Power
The Spanish American War Overtime, several historical events have shaped our country into the
strong, independent, nation it is today. One of these events was the Spanish American War. The
Spanish American War took place in April 1898 and lasted until August 1898. The battle between
Spain and America had multiple causes, followed by various consequences. Contributing to American
expansion, this war might have been viewed as short, but it was brutal in the process. Leading up to
the war, the country of Cuba have been struggling to become a self reliant nation from Spain since
1895. Under Spanish rule, Cuba was forbidden to do business with other foreign countries. Spain was

The Treaty of Paris of 1898 outlined these agreements that ended the war. For example, Spain agreed
to forfeit their power over Guam and Puerto Rico, giving these territories to the United States.
Furthermore, Cuba finally gained its independence from Spain and their government. However,
America intervened for three years after they were given freedom. This means that America was
involved in Cuba s government until Cuba added the Platt Amendment in 1901 to their constitution.
The Platt Amendment emphasized the relationship between Cuba and America. To explain, Cuba was
not permitted to give territory to any other nation, except for America in any circumstance. Also, Cuba
had limited, restricted power in foreign relations and treaties. This was to ensure Cuba remained
neutral and to America s advantage. The Platt Amendment gave the United States control of a naval
force in Guantánamo Bay as well. To add, the Philippines was bought for $20 million by the United
States, which at the time contributed to American

Attack And Die Book Review
In terms of considering why the Southern Confederacy lost the Civil War, Grady McWhiney and Perry
Jamieson have published an interestingly well researched book that offers a fresh, new interpretation
for southern defeat. In Attack and Die, McWhiney and Jamieson submit that the foremost reason for
southern defeat came from an aggressive southern heritage that was steeped in a culture taken from
their ancestors, the Celts. McWhiney and Jamieson offer another, more salient reason why the
Confederacy lost the Civil War. Because Southerners were imprisoned in a culture that rejected careful
calculation and patience, often refusing to learn from their mistakes, the real reason the Confederates
lost was because the offensive warfare that was so foundational to Confederate wartime strategy, also

The Biodiversity At Lido Beach
Abstract This study investigated the biodiversity at Lido Beach in Long Island. The objective was to
investigate how biodiversity changed for areas away from human habitat. Salt marshes and wetland
are under severe threat due to irresponsible actions on the part of humans. There needs to be an
awareness and understanding in the general public as to the importance of these natural habitats and
their significance to the general ecosystem. There is enough evidence to suggest the degradation has
already happened, and how critical it is to protect salt marshes and wetlands. The results were
encouraging as they pointed in the general direction that diversity was not impacted close to the
pathway that was subjected to human traffic. However, the data collected did not point to any specific
conclusions. Nonetheless, it provided valuable information on the subject of the study. The results for
the entire class data indicated that for richness, there was a positive correlation between the family
richness of the samples and the distance from the path. Specific results for one group for each sample
point indicated that for richness, there was more richness observed near the path than away from it.
For evenness, the results indicated that as the distance from the path increased, the evenness did not
have a clear pattern, even though there was a general increase in evenness away from the path,
especially, as shown by the 30m and 50m sampling points. For proportional

When doing business in Italy dressing well is a priority. Italians perceive how you dress as a reflection
of your social standing and relative success, as well as your competence as a businessperson. The
dress tends to be on the formal side whether for business or for social situations. You should do your
best to make clothing choices that are both tasteful and stylish. Italians would never wear scuffed,
unshined or unfashionable shoes. Men should wear expensive sophisticated, ties and well cut dark
suits. Men often wear accessories such as cuff links, tie clips, and stylish watches. Women are advised
to dress simply and with elegance. Italian businesswomen usually wear more makeup and jewelry than
American women do. Women do not wear stockings in the summer. Both men and women use
perfumes and colognes.
When getting ready to make a deal with an Italian businessperson you should have a translator close
by because many Italians do not speak English very well. When you are selecting your negotiating
team, Italians prefer to do business with the most important people in an organization. Use business
cards that are translated into Italian on the back; make sure to included any advanced educational
degrees you hold and your full title or position. Italians like to know whether they are dealing with an
important person. Very senior Italian businesspeople have less information on their business cards. In

Analysis Of Travel With Steinbeck
In the novel, Travels With Charley , John Steinbeck goes on a journey across all of America, but what
he inscribed was not just a diary describing the places of which he traveled to, it is a story composed
of smaller stories within the book that he uses to describe what he discovered about American society
along the way. One of the excerpts from Travels With Charley that Steinbeck wrote is describing a
waitress he meets at a small restaurant right outside of Bangor, the financial struggle she is in, and
how there are two different types of people in this world. Also, it describes when Steinbeck wants so
badly to give the waitress a tip, but he doesn t because he believes that she won t take it. I believe the
message that John ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is explaining that the waitress he met at the restaurant, after having a conversation with her, is a
depressing and boring human being. Steinbeck figures this out by noticing that she has a tone in her
voice, which he doesn t describe, but she has a tone that we can detect by the dialogue he includes in
this section of the novel. Also, by the context of the conversation. Steinbeck includes that the waitress
was the type of person that puts a cloud over everyone s heads and brings out not the positive, but the
negative in every situation. He however does not explain a particular person that brings exuberance to
a situation and always blocks out the negative. This is because John Steinbeck says that the waitress
gets him. From this we can infer that he is not normally a happy and exciting guy. The text says, I d
been driving a long time, and perhaps my energy was low and my resistance down. She got me... For a
moment I considered giving her a five dollar tip, but I know what would happen. She wouldn t be
glad. She d think I was crazy(pg. 47). Looking at the message that John Steinbeck portrays from a
different angle, we can see that the reason a person is such a Buzzkill or a Debbie Downer is because
they are constantly in a bad situation from a financial perspective or from something else. Such as the
waitress John Steinbeck meets, who is struggling financially

Review of Literature
Health promotion is an essential health care issue that should be implemented by all members of the
health care team (Hosseini, Torab, Taghdisi, Vardanjani, 2013). Nurses play a critical role in health
promotion for patients, family, and community because we provide direct patient care and are able to

increasing and the health care needs of clients is trending in an upward fashion (Jadelhack, 2012). As

cultural, spiritual, emotional, and educational data are collected during the nursing assessment. The
next step is to develop nursing diagnosis(es) and prioritize the identified problems (Edelman, Kudzma,
Mandle, 2014). Once the problems are identified, the planning of care can take place. The plan
includes written goals, problems, expected outcomes from the patient/family/community, and
interventions that will be taken to achieve the goals and improve outcomes (Edelman, Kudzma,
Mandle, 2014). In planning for health promotion, the nurse needs to taylor the plan to suit the learning
needs, environment, and health needs of the client, family, or community (Povlsen, 2011).
Interventions by the nurse are meant to empower and education the person to make changes in health
behavior including screening, education, and crisis intervention. Ongoing evaluation of the health
promotion process is essential in improving methods and health outcomes.

environmentally friendly strategies in a large corporation, such as M S, and how those strategies could
be implemented in a US based startup food and retail business, specifically located in central Florida.
Environmentalism in the UK: A Look into the Environmental Strategies Incorporated at Marks and

Author and environmentalist Richard Welford asserts: There is a recognition that the environmental
crisis exists but a great deal of helplessness about what to do about it (1997, p. x). Marks and Spencer
(M S), founded in 1884, is a thriving, sustainable, environmentally friendly retail and food company
located in the United Kingdom. Marks and Spencer adheres to a strategy by what they deem as Plan

Limitations Of Social Identity Theory
Introduction
Social identity theory proposed by Tajfel Turner (2004) is a theory of group membership and
behaviour which has made significant contributions in explaining in group favouritism, out group
denigration, competition and other interactions of an individual among social groups (Korte, 2007;
Brown, 2000; Tajfel Turner, 2004). Social identity theory can be defined as an individual s sense of
who they are based on the group that they belong to through a process of self categorisation and
depersonalisation (Tajfel Turner, 2004). In this essay, I will define social identity theory through its
three mental processes involved in group evaluation which are: social identification which is a process
whereby we are placed into certain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, a female individual who believes in feminism will most likely identify higher with a
group of feminists than a group of females that are ant feminist. This strength in social identification
leads to in group favouritism whereby members see the members of their group in a positive manner
and see members of other groups in a negative or denigrative manner (Swann Jr et al., 2009). Through
the process of depersonalisation. self categorisation and group membership, an individual develops a
social identity that serves as a social cognitive schema for behaviours that are related to the group
(Korte, 2007; Swann Jr et al., 2009).
Depersonalisation occurs when an individual identifies with a certain group as he/she adopts the group
s identity wherein his/her personal identity takes less priority and he/she tends to downplay his/her s
own personal attributes in favour of acquiring the group s attributes (Swann Jr et al., 2009; Korte,
2007). An individual constructs meaning of this social identity through self categorisation and adopts
the appropriate behaviour that is expected and utilised within the group (Korte, 2007). This further
suggests that individuals have the tendency to display behaviours that the group they identify with
displays even if it conflicts with their personal identity (Korte, 2007). Also, the more salient an
individual s social identity, the more likely the

Human Language And Animal Communication
Introduction
Firstly it is important to distinguish what is meant by human language and animal communication . By
providing definitions for both in my opening section I will then be able to go onto compare their
similarities and differences. Throughout this essay I will refer to the design features of language and
by comparing animal communication behaviours to them I will be able to show the extent to which
human language and animal communication are similar or different.
Defining Communication and Language
Communication can be defined as when ...the action of or cue given by one organism [the sender] is
perceived by and thus alters the probability pattern of behavior in another organism [the receiver] in a
fashion adaptive to either one both of the participants (Wilson 1975, p.111). Both humans and animals
are able to communicate.
Communication can be split into two categories: informative and communicative signals. Informative
signals are signs sent unintentionally, for example a human could talk fast to show nerves. Animals
can display this behavior too, for example an antelope running away from a lion would indicate it is
frightened. Communicative signals are intentional forms of communication by telling someone I am a
student you are intentionally telling them that you are a student. In animals, by barking a police dog is
intentionally telling the police to check a person.
The Oxford English Dictionary defines language as a system of human communication .

Hell s Angels By Hunter S. Thompson Summary
Hunter S. Thompson was the author of Hell s Angles published in 1967 by Random House. In this
book Thompson follows Hell s Angles for a two year period, focusing on the Oakland and San
Francisco chapters. The Hell s Angels were known for their violent nature and disregard for authority.
Thompson illustrates this by saying, when you re asked to stay out of a bar you don t just punch the
owner. You come back with your army and tear the place down, destroy the whole edifice and
everything it stand for. No compromise. If a man gets wise, mash his face. If a woman snubs you, rape
her. This is the thinking, if not the reality, behind the whole Hell s Angels act. The Hell s Angels were
an infamous motorcycle gang. Hell s Angels were founded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This style of journalism is a first person narrative to report on personal experiences and emotions,
compared with traditional journalism, which relies on some degree of detachment and with its use of
facts and quotations. Hell s Angels should be regarded as an important piece of journalism because,
Thompson reported on events that were relevant to the counter culture and the struggles of defying
social status in the United States. Furthermore the events that are covered in this book were of interest
to people throughout the nation. This book would be of interest to a wide variety of people. For
instance, motorcycle enthuses would likely take interest because, the book is about a notorious
motorcycle gang. People interested in counter culture might also take an interest in this book due to
the fact that the Hell s Angles questioned the social class system. Even people interested in sociology
could also take an interest in the book because, sociology is the study of the development, structure,
and functioning of human society ad social problems. A sociology professor could use this book as an
example for their class to understand a subculture, similarly to the Street Corner Society by William

Research Paper On Richard Branson
Richard Branson Innovation happens when people are given the freedom to ask questions and the
resources and power to find the answers. (Richard Branson) Richard Branson lived a troubled, yet
successful life. He is an inspiration to people all over the world. To me, Branson is living proof that
even if you fail, you can still succeed if you have the mindset and will to do so. Richard Branson had
three children by the names of Sam Branson, Holly Branson, and Clare Sarah Branson. He s had two
wives. In 1972 1979, he was married to a woman named Kristin Tomassi. His current spouse, married
in 1989, is Joan Templeman. A famous quote by Richard Branson says If you fall flat on your face, at
least you re moving forward. Branson was born on July 18th, 1950 in Surrey, England. According to
Biography Reference Bank , pg. 1 on Richard Branson, Branson s Father was a barrister, and his
mother, a flight attendant in London. My parents brought me up with this philosophy, Branson has
said, as quoted by Fred Goodman for Vanity Fair (May 1992): You must do things you mustn t watch
what other people are doing; you mustn t listen to what other people are doing. Branson took this
advice seriously and he ended up doing more sports than studying. His academic performance was
poor. Branson s dyslexia did not help his academic performance.. He went through several schools and
struggled for a long period of time with schooling. Virgin.com is Richard Branson s website today

The Lewis s The Four Loves Essay
Many cruel actions in the world have been carried out in the name of love. Because of that, it s clear to
see how not all forms of love are pure. The nature of love is a prominent theme in Till We Have Faces.
All of the relationships in this book are unique there are no two alike. In every relationship, there is a
love factor. Unfortunately, in English, there are no words to distinguish different types of the love
being felt. A person can love creatures, reading, and family members, but those are all entirely
separate interpretations of the word love. In the book, The Four Loves, Lewis dissects the different
forms of love. There are many connections to be made between characters throughout Till We Have
Faces and the four different types of love: Storge, Philia, Eros, and Agape. Each of the four loves
plays a part in the plot of the story.
The first of these loves is storge. Storge, Greek for affection, is the love in which physical features do
not have importance. An example would be a love for a family member or close friend (Four Loves 31
32). In Till We Have Faces, Orual the narrator and heroine of the novel receives love from her younger
sister, Psyche. The Fox, a Greek slave and father figure, also loves Orual even though she frightens
people with her face (26). The Fox, Orual, and Psyche have a special bond. Psyche and Orual look at
the Fox as a father figure because he acts as a true grandfather towards them (21). Storge is found
between the three

What Is Literary Nonsense In Alice In Wonderland
Nonsense
Nonsense Literature or Literary Nonsense balances elements that make sense with some that do not
with the effect of subverting language conventions or logical reasoning even though the most well
known form of literary nonsense is nonsense verse. The effect of nonsense is often caused by an
excess of meaning rather than a lack of it it s humor is derived from it s nonsensical nature rather than
wit or the joke of a punchline. Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, who is better known as Lewis Carroll, has
authored diverse amount of poems, novels, and short stories in his career. The Hunting of the Snark
display his wonderful ability in the genre of literary nonsense. However, Carroll is most distinguished
for his infant s nonsense novels: Alice s Adventures in Wonderland and the sequel Through the
Looking Glass. His work, principally the two mentioned, have inspire many people over the years.
Alice s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass are designed for a child s
entertainment, but both books are full of symbolism. To lectors with no experience with Carroll s
work, this term seems to describe Carroll s confusing and often rambling style perfectly, but when
more thoroughly inspected, it becomes obvious that this nonsense has a far more profound meaning.
Alice s Adventures in Wonderland is about a young girl, Alice, who gets bored doing her
multiplication tables one day and follows a white rabbit into a hole. Through this hole, she ends up
falling into

A complex between crystal violet and iodine (CV I) is formed within the cell. The structure that
determines the Gram reaction is the cell wall structure and not that shape. Bacillus cereus and
Staphylococcus aureus are stained purple in the Gram staining as they have a high amount of
peptidoglycan which forms the outer layer of the cell. This thick peptidoglycan layer is able to trap the
purple CV I complex even after alcohol treatment. Escherichia coli is stained pink in the Gram
staining and it is a Gram negative bacteria. Gram negative bacterias usually have a thin peptidoglycan
layer compared to Gram positive bacterias. The peptidoglycan layer is located between the plasma
membrane and an outer membrane containing lipopolysaccharide and this outer layer is dissolved
during the alcohol treatment which results in a loss of the CV I complex, hence the pink safranin
counterstain is trapped by the peptidoglycan layer (ASM, 2004). Gram staining allows us to observe
the characteristics and cell size, shape and arrangement. For Bacillus cereus, endospores were also
viewed during microscopic observation. During Gram staining, the most crucial step in determining
the outcome is the decolourisation by alcohol step. If alcohol is applied too long, the alcohol may
wash all the CV I complex that is trapped in peptidoglycan layer. Therefore, alcohol is only applied

Poverty Vs Poverty
Poverty In any society or group of people, it will always exist, no matter the circumstances. Even in
the early modern ages of Europe, where guilds thrived, there was still a large, countless group of
individuals and families that did not just have a struggle to find power, but it was simply a struggle to
survive from day to day (Friedrichs). Even today with modern technology and an abundance of
resources, people still have the same struggles. Nearly 1 in 7 people are at risk of poverty. (Palmer).
Seeing that poverty is still very well prevalent in Europe today, surprisingly, the views and opinions of
it are still somewhat similar compared to ones of the Renaissance. Public opinions about poverty and
government action taken today are similar to those in early modern European history because today
there are still an abundance of dishonest beggars, charities run by churches in order to help those that
are poverty stricken, and forms of welfare to insist them.
In Europe, public begging was at times the only way one was able to find money and resources to
survive. There were so many, that they were categorized. One category was geographical: the local
person...A second category was physical: the person unable to work due to illness...The third category
was moral: the person who was willing to work was more deserving than the shirker...the healthy
person who was able to work but unable to do so. (Friedrichs). In the third category, it can be seen that
not all beggars may

Option A: How do different theoretical perspectives and methodologies create different forms of
knowledge about close relationships? Discuss with reference to the cognitive social and social
psychoanalytic perspectives. Social Psychology is divided into four different theoretical perspectives.
Every perspective is strengthened by a set of ontological and epistemological assumptions, that profile
the kinds of research questions that can be generated and the sorts of methodologies used to address
research questions. Then, methods employed delimit the kinds of social psychological knowledge that

Love is thus expressed in a cultural context and those who are not in the frame can feel pressures from
their respective cultures to not reveal their love (affairs, homosexual relationships). Looking at
cohabitation, using statistical researches, it has been showed that the frequency of cohabitation is
higher in young couples than old ones, demonstrating a change over time in the cultural way of seeing
it. Looking for further factors that can predict love and allow us to foresee its success or failure,
specific stimuli or characteristics were highlighted such as matched characteristics, demographic
origins or backgrounds, personality characteristics (similarities and differences), intimacy or idea of
being a couple , that can predict the progress, stability and success of relationships. Those
characteristics were, for example, stated after analysis of questionnaire presenting question such as
what sorts of people get into the most stable and happy relationships? . This kind of methods enable
the researchers to analyze people s belief and knowledge about relationships and find that they are
often related to religion, economic, background, race, age, intelligence, and so on. Social influences
can also take control of relationships by pressuring people with expectations for a successful marriage.

  • 2. The American Colonial Life During The Late 1700 S Whether by land or by sea, eighteenth century colonial travel was arduous, expensive, and many times dangerous. Because of this, few people traveled very far from their homes. Transportation has changed dramatically since the late 1700 s. It was during this time that Colonial America was budding as a new country. This was before airplanes, which appeared in the very early stages of the 1900 s. Cars showed up about the same time, so rewind about 200 plus years and we re back in colonial America. It wasn t civilized like it is today. The dirt roads were bumpy, grimy, and when the rains came, they were mud baths. So how did people during this time get around? Often, they didn t. Not many people could afford the cost of travel back then. Daily American Colonial Life was extremely harsh for the first settlers and colonists. They were faced with a new country, unknown territory and no friends, relatives or neighbors to help them In those days, it was fairly expensive to travel. Because of this, generally only government officials, merchants, and planters took the risk (Constitution Facts). Women were supposed to stay home and look after the children while the husband went off to do business. America was still a budding country, so there were not as many cities as there are now and they were more spread out. If the man wanted to travel, it would require several hours, or even several days to ride on horseback. Often the husband wouldn t return for a couple of days, and when he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay Comparing The Storm And The Story Of An Hour Kate Chopin s The Storm and The Story of an Hour seem to be very similar in style by the way she uses the era she lives in to make certain thoughts and ideas occur. Throughout both stories Kate Chopin depicts how the women in her story are sexually oppressed and are looking for true love.. She also shows how during her time in life women seemed to struggle with unhappy marriages and false feelings of love. The Storm is about a young boy and father that venture out and are soon caught in the middle of storm. So they stop a local store for shelter but are worried for Clixta who is the boy s mother and man s wife. While at home, Clixta is worried about her family as well but is soon visited by an old lover of hers who is seeking shelter from the storm as well. As the story progresses Clixta soon finds herself cheating on her husband as she makes love with her past lover not only to keep her mind off the storm but ... In The Story of an Hour they show that Mrs. Mallard is supposed to be sad about her husband dying especially in the time period when women were supposed to be loyal to their husbands. Also, women didn t have many rights during this point in time so leaving her husband wasn t an option. So when Mr. Mallard is reported dead from a train accident she is happy because for once in her life she is free from her horrible relationship. While In The Storm Clixta felt that her relationship between her and Bobbinet was slowly fading away, so she decides to take advantage of her husband and son being stuck at a store during the storm and allows her ex lover to take shelter in her house when she is fully aware that it will more than likely lead to them having sex which in this case it does. • 5. Civil War And A Revolution According to the UN, the death toll in Syria almost reached two hundred thousand over the last three and a half years, and the number of displaced Syrians reached 9.5 million. Because of the complexity of the situation, a lot of people don t even know exactly what is happening over there. The first thing that might pop into one s mind is that a civil war is going on there. On the other hand, others argue that it is a revolution against oppression that has been brutally responded to. Evaluating the situation in Syria requires solid understanding of specific terms of a civil war and a revolution. Also, is there a general consensus on what a civil war or a revolution is? Can the situation in Syria simply be classified into one of these two? The first important thing to know is that there is no single definition of a civil war that historians or political scientists have agreed upon. However, a commonly used definition to judge a situation is that of the correlate of war project, which explains a civil war as a sustained military combat, primarily internal, resulting in at least 1,000 battle deaths per year, in which government forces are in conflict with a revolting force capable of effective resistance, determined by the latter s ability to inflict upon the government forces at least 5% of the fatalities that the insurgents sustain. Under this classification, there have been 53 civil wars from 1946 to 1992 (Civil War in the Post Colonial World 1946 92). Other Definitions are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Monster Of Living With Grief Abby Wigand Mr. Mitchell Communication Art IV 30 September 2016 The Monster of Living with Grief As Keanu Reeves once said, Grief changes shapes, but it never ends ( Tragic ). When it comes to grief there are usually five shapes or stages that people go through: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and, finally, acceptance. The book A Monster Calls, by Patrick Ness, is about a young boy who is struggling with school, bullies, friends, and family when his mother develops a terminal illness. He is visited by the monster, a massive yew tree, who comes alive to teach Conor the ways of the world. He also teaches Conor the truth in order to move past his mother s sickness. Ness shows how people in both literature and real life tend to go through five stages of grief while dealing with a loved one who has a terminal illness because of the overwhelming lamentation it inflicts. The first stage of grief is as the sharks say in Finding Nemo, DENIAL. In the book, Conor s grandma told him that his mother s condition would not get better with one of the new treatments. He denied it by saying, The treatments are making her better... (42). Even though the treatments had not worked, Conor refused to believe that the treatments will not work because he needs his mother to get better. The American Psychological Association says that most people deny the problem because it is easier to distance oneself from friends or family. Once a person isolates from those who can help, it can lead to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay On Newark Newark has only in recent years stemmed the population outflow. The city has begun in recent decades to attract a high immigrant population, a reflection of its status as a major center in the New York Metropolitan area, one of America s major gateway cities for new immigrants. The percentage of foreign born residents in Newark is 26.5%, above the national average of 12.5%, and 44.5% of residents speak a language other than English in the home (U.S. Census Bureau, 2008). The influx of new immigrants can contribute to economic growth. Many such immigrants, especially when there are limited outside employment prospects, turn to entrepreneurial activity. The type of urban renewal that Newark is pursuing supports an increase in middle class professional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This strategy has focused on infrastructure investments (everything from sewers to arenas) and tax cuts to attract investment and the development of new industries. The result is that Newark is showing signs of economic renewal, in particular in its ability to attract middle class professionals back to the city. Over time, this trend will create a more dynamic Newark with a diverse economic base and a vibrant demographic. However, the impacts of these changes on the existing residents, most of whom are poor minorities, are largely going to be negative. They have neither the education nor training to take advantage of the new jobs and industries, and may find themselves priced out of their own neighborhoods. Newark appears headed for economic renewal, but social renewal may be stifled by rising tensions between the existing citizens and the new citizens that Newark intends to attract. These citizens, already facing lower social spending as the city shifts its funding priorities to infrastructure projects, may be compartmentalized into smaller pockets of the city or forced outside of Newark altogether, resulting in civic disharmony that the city will need to manage in order to continue to experience economic ... The poem takes place at a farm in Toner s Bog; we know this because during the time when he flashes back, the father and grandfather are working on digging, and also because they are harvesting potatoes it must be on a farm. The poem is about the speaker who is a boy, and who wants to be someone different from his father. He looks out the window when he hears a rasping sound of his father putting the spade into the ground, and then he flashes back 20 years before. • 9. The Number Of Mobile Cellular Networks Operators Who Can... The work has been able to verify that the number of mobile cellular network operators who can effectively share infrastructure on a base station is limited by the following parameters: Sensitivity degradation threshold E field threshold or radiation limit Allowable BTS noise floor limit Require antenna isolation Interference level (from spurious emission, leakages, etc.) Tower wind loading From the result, it was observed that six (6) GSM operators can share infrastructure for a passive infrastructure sharing scheme without severe and unacceptable degradation of system performance. For number of BTS operators greater than six (6), the noise floor becomes larger than 110dB, which is not acceptable. However, as the number of users of a tower increase, the wind loading and tower bending moment increases. Therefore, when designing towers, wind loading analysis for collocation scenario should be carried out. Among the parameters, the level of sensitivity degradation should be monitored closely, since its value aid in determining system performance for a specific interference level and BTS noise floor, which depends on the number of collocating operators. When the sensitivity degradation is greater than 3dB it indicates that the interference threshold is larger than the noise floor limit, which is temperature and bandwidth dependent. It was also observed that the higher the antenna gain, the longer the antenna separating distance. The coverage radius is affected by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Challenges Of Smallholder Dairy Farming Systems Climate change and variability (CCV) is one of the greatest challenges to Smallholder Dairy Farming Systems (SDFS) yet demand for Animal Source Foods (ASF) is projected to rise (FAO, 2011) due to population growth, urban migration coupled with increased spending in developing countries as a result of improved incomes (Giovannucci et al., 2012). In Kenya SDFS form one of the most important key livelihood strategies of rural communities with dominance over the national milk sector accounting for 80% of total milk produced and a corresponding agricultural Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 30% (FAO, 2011a). Other factors that negatively impact SDFS include: poor agronomic practices; reduced fodder and crop residue yields (; land fragmentation; ... Reduced LGP is likely to trigger shifts from SDFS (mixed crop and livestock production) to more dominant livestock based production systems with a high probability of offsetting the food balance due to increased frequency of failure of traditionally grown crops (Anyamba et al., 2014; Niang et al., 2014). These scenarios lead to dynamic complexities and dynamic farming systems where SDFS test and adopt both indigenous methods based on perceptions of CCV and modern technologies that work best for increased productivity (Mertz et al., 2009; Below et al, 2014). According to Giovannucci et al. (2012) rural urban migration in Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) is associated with CCV (FAO, 2015) and directly impacts labour availability resulting to women and the elderly taking on additional and non traditional gendered roles that include offering social protection (WHO, 2011) thus increasing exposure to climate related risks that further affect productivity (Beddington et al., 2012a; Giovannucci et al., 2012; FAO, 2015). Production is further compounded by limited access and control over factors of production (land, credit, assets, knowledge, technology and efficient extension services) (Giovannucci et al., 2012; Antwi Agyei et al., 2013) that aid in adaptation strategies by women who own and manage most SDFS (FAO, 2015). Patient s recovery from cholera depends on the antibiotics or patient s own immune system and regeneration of the epithelial cell s of the intestine. (Finkelstein, 1996) Hygiene and sanitary control Cholera is closely connected with the poor hygiene and sanitation. The simplest way to control this is to protect drinking water and food from being contaminated with the human feces. For example, education and compulsion may help to eradicate careless defecation by the people. Also, it is necessary to provide such areas with temporary trench type latrines, and the powdered chloride should be dropped over excreta and soiled surfaces in and around latrines. In the cities, the public latrines should be maintained properly. Safe disposal of excretes should be certainly done to prevent the contamination of water sources. Before the sewage would be poured into the rivers and lakes, it should be chlorinated. (Formadi, 2007) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of these events was the Spanish American War. The Spanish American War took place in April 1898 and lasted until August 1898. The battle between Spain and America had multiple causes, followed by various consequences. Contributing to American expansion, this war might have been viewed as short, but it was brutal in the process. This means that America was involved in Cuba s government until Cuba added the Platt Amendment in 1901 to their constitution. The Platt Amendment emphasized the relationship between Cuba and America. To explain, Cuba was not permitted to give territory to any other nation, except for America in any circumstance. Also, Cuba had limited, restricted power in foreign relations and treaties. Attack And Die Book Review In terms of considering why the Southern Confederacy lost the Civil War, Grady McWhiney and Perry Jamieson have published an interestingly well researched book that offers a fresh, new interpretation for southern defeat. In Attack and Die, McWhiney and Jamieson submit that the foremost reason for southern defeat came from an aggressive southern heritage that was steeped in a culture taken from their ancestors, the Celts. McWhiney and Jamieson offer another, more salient reason why the Confederacy lost the Civil War. Because Southerners were imprisoned in a culture that rejected careful calculation and patience, often refusing to learn from their mistakes, the real reason the Confederates lost was because the offensive warfare that was so foundational to Confederate wartime strategy, also known as the Celtic charge, ... • 16. The Biodiversity At Lido Beach Abstract This study investigated the biodiversity at Lido Beach in Long Island. The objective was to investigate how biodiversity changed for areas away from human habitat. Salt marshes and wetland are under severe threat due to irresponsible actions on the part of humans. There needs to be an awareness and understanding in the general public as to the importance of these natural habitats and their significance to the general ecosystem. There is enough evidence to suggest the degradation has already happened, and how critical it is to protect salt marshes and wetlands. The results were encouraging as they pointed in the general direction that diversity was not impacted close to the pathway that was subjected to human traffic. However, the data collected did not point to any specific conclusions. Nonetheless, it provided valuable information on the subject of the study. The results for the entire class data indicated that for richness, there was a positive correlation between the family richness of the samples and the distance from the path. Specific results for one group for each sample point indicated that for richness, there was more richness observed near the path than away from it. For evenness, the results indicated that as the distance from the path increased, the evenness did not have a clear pattern, even though there was a general increase in evenness away from the path, especially, as shown by the 30m and 50m sampling points. One of the excerpts from Travels With Charley that Steinbeck wrote is describing a waitress he meets at a small restaurant right outside of Bangor, the financial struggle she is in, and how there are two different types of people in this world. Steinbeck figures this out by noticing that she has a tone in her voice, which he doesn t describe, but she has a tone that we can detect by the dialogue he includes in this section of the novel. Also, by the context of the conversation. Steinbeck includes that the waitress was the type of person that puts a cloud over everyone s heads and brings out not the positive, but the negative in every situation. He however does not explain a particular person that brings exuberance to a situation and always blocks out the negative. This is because John Steinbeck says that the waitress gets him. For a moment I considered giving her a five dollar tip, but I know what would happen. She wouldn t be glad. She d think I was crazy(pg. 47). Social identity theory can be defined as an individual s sense of who they are based on the group that they belong to through a process of self categorisation and depersonalisation (Tajfel Turner, 2004). For example, a female individual who believes in feminism will most likely identify higher with a group of feminists than a group of females that are ant feminist. This strength in social identification leads to in group favouritism whereby members see the members of their group in a positive manner and see members of other groups in a negative or denigrative manner (Swann Jr et al., 2009). Through the process of depersonalisation. self categorisation and group membership, an individual develops a social identity that serves as a social cognitive schema for behaviours that are related to the group (Korte, 2007; Swann Jr et al., 2009). Depersonalisation occurs when an individual identifies with a certain group as he/she adopts the group s identity wherein his/her personal identity takes less priority and he/she tends to downplay his/her s own personal attributes in favour of acquiring the group s attributes (Swann Jr et al., 2009; Korte, 2007). An individual constructs meaning of this social identity through self categorisation and adopts the appropriate behaviour that is expected and utilised within the group (Korte, 2007). This further suggests that individuals have the tendency to display behaviours that the group they identify with displays even if it conflicts with their personal identity (Korte, 2007). By providing definitions for both in my opening section I will then be able to go onto compare their similarities and differences. Throughout this essay I will refer to the design features of language and by comparing animal communication behaviours to them I will be able to show the extent to which human language and animal communication are similar or different. Defining Communication and Language Communication can be defined as when ...the action of or cue given by one organism [the sender] is perceived by and thus alters the probability pattern of behavior in another organism [the receiver] in a fashion adaptive to either one both of the participants (Wilson 1975, p.111). Both humans and animals are able to communicate. Communication can be split into two categories: informative and communicative signals. Informative signals are signs sent unintentionally, for example a human could talk fast to show nerves. Animals can display this behavior too, for example an antelope running away from a lion would indicate it is frightened. Communicative signals are intentional forms of communication by telling someone I am a student you are intentionally telling them that you are a student. In animals, by barking a police dog is intentionally telling the police to check a person. The Oxford English Dictionary defines language as a system of human communication . ... The nature of love is a prominent theme in Till We Have Faces. All of the relationships in this book are unique there are no two alike. In every relationship, there is a love factor. Unfortunately, in English, there are no words to distinguish different types of the love being felt. A person can love creatures, reading, and family members, but those are all entirely separate interpretations of the word love. In the book, The Four Loves, Lewis dissects the different forms of love. There are many connections to be made between characters throughout Till We Have Faces and the four different types of love: Storge, Philia, Eros, and Agape. Each of the four loves plays a part in the plot of the story. The first of these loves is storge. Storge, Greek for affection, is the love in which physical features do not have importance. An example would be a love for a family member or close friend (Four Loves 31 32). In Till We Have Faces, Orual the narrator and heroine of the novel receives love from her younger sister, Psyche. The Fox, a Greek slave and father figure, also loves Orual even though she frightens people with her face (26). The Fox, Orual, and Psyche have a special bond. The structure that determines the Gram reaction is the cell wall structure and not that shape. Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus are stained purple in the Gram staining as they have a high amount of peptidoglycan which forms the outer layer of the cell. This thick peptidoglycan layer is able to trap the purple CV I complex even after alcohol treatment. Escherichia coli is stained pink in the Gram staining and it is a Gram negative bacteria. Gram negative bacterias usually have a thin peptidoglycan layer compared to Gram positive bacterias. The peptidoglycan layer is located between the plasma membrane and an outer membrane containing lipopolysaccharide and this outer layer is dissolved during the alcohol treatment which results in a loss of the CV I complex, hence the pink safranin counterstain is trapped by the peptidoglycan layer (ASM, 2004). Gram staining allows us to observe the characteristics and cell size, shape and arrangement. For Bacillus cereus, endospores were also viewed during microscopic observation. Even in the early modern ages of Europe, where guilds thrived, there was still a large, countless group of individuals and families that did not just have a struggle to find power, but it was simply a struggle to survive from day to day (Friedrichs). Even today with modern technology and an abundance of resources, people still have the same struggles. Nearly 1 in 7 people are at risk of poverty. (Palmer). Seeing that poverty is still very well prevalent in Europe today, surprisingly, the views and opinions of it are still somewhat similar compared to ones of the Renaissance. Public opinions about poverty and government action taken today are similar to those in early modern European history because today there are still an abundance of dishonest beggars, charities run by churches in order to help those that are poverty stricken, and forms of welfare to insist them. In Europe, public begging was at times the only way one was able to find money and resources to survive. There were so many, that they were categorized.
