Authoritative Parenting Style In The Little Mermaid
In 90210 the parents were Authoritarian parents, in the clip the parents established the rules and the
child wasn t allowed to say anything. Furthermore the household was patriarchal the dad was the
leader and everyone followed suite.
In The Little Mermaid the father was Authoritative, although the father laid down the rules he gave his
daughter and explanation of why she was in trouble. He was stern but he still showed compassion, and
he was just.
In Home Alone the mother was authoritative, she was a great disciplinarian, and however by using this
parenting style the son Kevin was able to use his problem solving skills to keep him safe.
In the movie Sister Act 2 the mother was Authoritarian, she didn t allow her daughter to explain

In the beginning she used borderline Authoritarian Authoritative parenting style to lay down the rules,
however after she did her probing she used Authoritative parenting style by allowing her daughter to
work with her classmate and trusting that she would do the right thing.
In the movie brave the mother used Authoritarian parenting style, she established she is the Queen and
the Queen has the last say. However the daughter was strong willed, and she felt as though the mother
was a non involved parent stating she s never there for her. The dangers of being an Authoritarian
parent is that children quite often mix it up with the parent not caring or not being involved at all
because they don t take the time to hear them out.
On the TV show Sopranos the parent s were Authoritative parents, they allowed their son to make
decisions on his own and when he messed up they explained to him why he was wrong. However at
first the mother was being an Authoritarian because she was upset that she didn t use her better
judgment when allowing her son to go to NY although she knew he wasn t ready to make such a trip.
Mom decided to compete with dad by being an uninvolved parent and it backfired. The household was
Egalitarian both parents made decisions in raising their son although they hey joint

Characteristics Of Inspirational Women In The 19th Century

Inspirational Women Women in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries have faced many obstacles. Many
of these obstacles included inequality of the sexes, slavery, and unheard voices and most importantly
recognition. These women all have different stories to tell. Many of these stories progress into
greatness despite the difficulties and hardships to hear that voice of victory they ve searched their
whole life for. As I observe writers in the 17th 19th century, I ve learned these women struggle with
the darkness of being unheard for many years hiding behind their husbands, masters, and etc. because
society prefer to treasure men over women who work twice as hard as they normally would do. Phillis
Wheatley had to fight in court to prove she wrote her poems because people didn t believe a slave
could write poems that speak to the human soul. In her first book , Poems of Various Subjects,
Religious and Morals in the poem Imagination she is letting readers know that she imagines herself
having a free soul that travels through the air to meet god in heaven. Soaring through air to find the
bright abode,Th empyreal palace of the thund ring God (Line 15 16). She became the first African
american author to have her work published in 1773.
Secondly, in 1797, Sojourner Truth was born in Swartekill Ulster County New York. Sold at the age
nine Isabella Baumfree. She was born into slavery along with her other siblings. She

Cultural Differences Surrounding Religious Beliefs And...
Cultural differences can dramatically hinder the dynamic, communicative practices of collegiate
students living in a dormitory. Specifically, the cultural differences surrounding religious beliefs and
video game habits can create barriers to everyday communication that is necessary between
roommates. Choosing the correct dorm to live in can be a very stressful decision for many high school
seniors and lead to many unintended consequences by being assigned a roommate that is culturally
different. During the summer of 2014, my roommates and I connected through Facebook and began to
learn about each other s lives. Being assigned a triple room, we began to find many similarities
between us, such as snowboarding, longboarding, and music ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These small differences did not bring me to believe we were culturally different, but that we majored
in different subjects, which led to our differences in hobbies and lifestyles.
When arriving in Boulder, I was faced with more intercultural communicative interactions than at any
other time throughout my life in Michigan. While both my roommates were from California, they had
shared meanings of certain phrases that I was unfamiliar with before socializing with my roommates.
In the greater context, the majority of the intercultural communication that I had practiced back in
Michigan were inapplicable while dealing with these new cultures that I was unfamiliar with;
however, due to the large amount of immigration to the United States, I was able to adapt to and
understand most people I communicated with because of my wide variety of past experiences. Spencer
(2002) suggests in one publication that multicultural communication is virtually unavoidable within
the United States ( p. 610). Although I agree with Spencer, I would take it a step further to argue that
students at the University of Colorado Boulder in particular have the one of the highest rates of
intercultural communication interactions based on the wide variety of locations students originate
from, the many different belief systems, and the natural open mindedness of the Boulder citizens
harnesses the myriad of subcultures that strive in such an accepting

How The Disadvantaged Social Status Of The First...
The occupation of Australia involved an inventory of prejudiced and misguided policies against
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples that manifested in the dispossession, physical ill
treatment, social disruption, population decline, economic exploitation, codified discrimination and
cultural devastation of the first people of this land (Vos, Barker, Begg, Stanley Lopez, 2008, p. 471). It
is undisputed that compared with mainstream Australians, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
are still experiencing significantly worse health, social and economic outcomes. This essay will
investigate how the disadvantaged social status of the First Australians has impacted Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander children s health, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (2005) states Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
experience lower levels of employment, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait adults in 2002 being more
than twice as likely to be unemployed, compared to mainstream Australian adults.
According to international research, there is indication that low socioeconomic status is associated
with poor health and increased exposure to health risk factors (Blakely, Hales Woodward, 2004;
Turrell Mathers, 2000; Carson, Dunbar, Chenhall Ballie, 2007, as cited in Australian Bureau of
Statistics, 2008). Data shows that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people without completion of
education were more likely to habitually smoke, consume high volumes of alcohol, engage in low
levels of exercise and were less likely to eat fruit and vegetables on a day to day basis (ABS, 2008).
Other social influences relating to the issue of poor health include low income, unhygienic living
conditions and remote location (Healey, 2002). Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with low
income have little available funds for purchasing health care and dietary needs and those living in
remote areas have restricted access to health facilities and resources (ABS, 2008; Australian
HealthInfoNet, 2013).
From this, it is evident that due to the social status and outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander people, an

as exhibiting a nonlinear relationship between voltage and current. Such nonlinear relationships can
lead to several forms of distortion as summarized below: * A periodic steady state exists and the
distorted waveform can be expressed as a Fourier series with a fundamental frequency equal to the
power frequency. * A periodic steady state exists and the distorted waveform can be expressed as a
Fourier series with fundamental frequency that is a sub multiple of power frequency. * The waveform
is aperiodic but perhaps almost periodic. A trigonometric series expansion may still exist (as an exact
representation or as an approximation). The first case is commonly encountered in harmonic studies.

Internal Rate of Return
Internal Rate of Return Meaning of Capital Budgeting  Capital budgeting can be defined as the
process of analyzing, evaluating, and deciding whether resources should be allocated to a project or
not.  Capital budgeting addresses the issue of strategic long term investment decisions.  Process of
capital budgeting ensure optimal allocation of resources and helps management work towards the goal
of shareholder wealth maximization. Why Capital Budgeting is so Important?  Involve massive
investment of resources  Are not easily reversible  Have long term implications for the firm 
Involve uncertainty and risk for the firm Capital Budget Techniques Net PresentValue Discounted

In cases where one project has a higher initial investment than a second mutually exclusive project,
the first project may have a lower IRR (expected return), but a higher NPV (increase in shareholders
wealth) and should thus be accepted over the second project. A method called marginal IRR can be
used to adapt the IRR methodology to this case.  Another problem with the IRR method is that it
may give different rates of return. Suppose there are two discount rates (two IRRs) that make the
present value equal to the initial investment. In this case, which rate should be used for comparison
with the cutoff rate? The purpose of this question is not to resolve the cases where there are different
IRRs.  Under IRR it is assumed that all the intermediate cash flows are reinvested at the IRR which
always not hold true. Which approach is better  Both NPV and IRR methods yield better decision
making data based off them being sophisticated capital budgeting techniques and consider time value
of money and life time of the project.  NPV and IRR methods yield better decision making data
based off them being sophisticated capital budgeting techniques as NPV implicitly assumes that any
intermediate cash inflows generated by an investment are reinvested at the firm s cost of capital. 

Battelheim Meaning
In the introduction of Bruno Bettelheim s, The Uses of Enchantment, the struggle for meaning is not
just something that the young deal with but people in all stages of life. Bettelheim suggest that our
experiences in life can contribute to our development in understanding the meaning of life. Bettelheim
states that, The child, as he develops, must learn step by step to understand himself better; with this he
becomes more able to understand others, and eventually can relate to them in ways which are mutually
satisfying and meaningful. Bettelheim acknowledges that children s literature should add significance,
adee access to a deeper meaning, stimulate emotions, and enrich a child s life. Bettelheim suggest that
this kind of meaning can be found in fairy tales. Bettelheim quotes the German poet Schiller who
wrote: Deeper meaning resides in the fairy tales told to me in my childhood than in the truth that is
taught by life. Bettelheim believed that fairy tales can be influential at an age. ... Show more content

with all great art, the fairy tale s deepest meaning will be different for each person, and different for
the same person at various moments in his life. Bettelheim emphasizes that fairy tales have important

both very good things, they both teach you a lesson, but in very different ways. The Circle of Justice
teaches you to become calm and be a better person, but the US Criminal Justice System punishes you
by giving you an amount of time in jail.
The Circle of Justice is a Native American form of justice, originating in Canada that seeks healing in
contrast to the regular punishment ways. Some of the good things about this is that you don t have to

Don Quixote Sparknotes
In Miguel de Cervantes book Don Quixote, the protagonist of this book is Don Quixote, a man who
has gone mad and assumed the identity of a knight errant. Don Quixote wanders the countryside in
search of maidens to save, duels to engage in, and enchanters to stop. The comedic element of this
book revolves around Don Quixote s unbreaking faith in the stories of chivalry which he reads. Our
main character gets himself into countless embarrassing scrapes due to the fact that he thinks fairies,
enchanters, and dragons exist. In the famous story of the windmill, where Don Quixote mistakes a
windmill for a giant, we see that his worldview is greatly warped by the stories which he has read.
Miguel de Cervantes is by no means a silent narrator, he often inputs his opinions and uses insults to
describe the protagonist, using phrases such as madman or fool . Cervantes uses the great faith Don
Quixote exhibits to input his own raillery against faith. In fact, it can be said that one of the main
points behind the story of Don Quixote was a ridicule of blind faith. ... Show more content on

Teenagers And The Young Adult Chart
Teenagers are the most perceptive individuals in every society they are just learning and experiencing
the real world without yet developing the mask and filter of adults; they see things how they are, and
they say things the way they are. They still have the innate curiosity of children without the apathy
that seems so rampant among those who actually have the power to change. This is why it is so
important to know how teenagers view the world, because they will be making up the world in a few
decades. There is no better way to know how they think than by examining the literature they read.
Over the past few years, dystopian novels have topped the young adult charts. It is easy to just write
off the similarities between teenage aimed novels as just a standard story writing formula for making
money. However, by looking deeper into what these similarities really mean, we can learn that these
stories are similar for very important reasons. As Utopian scholar Lyman Tower Sargent s states, It is
particularly important that we understand the dreams and nightmares that are directed at children and
young adults (Hintz Ostry, 234). First, we need to take a look at what dystopian fictions are, by
definition. According to Aristotle, author of the Poetics, all forms of art perform mimesis. Epic poetry
and tragedy, as also comedy, dithyrambic poetry, and most pipe playing and lyre playing, are all,
viewed as a whole, modes of imitation (Aristotle) This concept of mimesis

Elizabeth I And Later The English Monarchs Essay
Elizabeth 1
To the best of my understanding Elizabeth I and later the English Monarchs with regard to religious
uniformity, believed in, and were in search of a religious settlement that would bring peace for all the
people. You could draw the conclusion that this very Act of Uniformity proclaimed by Elizabeth I in
1559 which was actually made up of two separate acts of Parliament, have in part created the religious
freedoms we enjoy today. My thesis would be that this religious uniformity would shape a lot of
things that would come to pass later on in life, as Elizabeth I ideas and beliefs would set a tone that
would shape religion and the beliefs on how to worship that still go on this this current day. One of
The act of Supremacy and the act of uniformity, the act of Supremacy re established England s
independence from Rome, while the act of uniformity established a set form of worship and made
church attendance on Sundays and holy days something that was obligatory. This very act would go
on to shape some of the laws, and a lot of the thinking behind the way things are still done to this very
day. Some of the laws are influence by the act of uniformity... In this time period different religious
beliefs were being questioned and shaped, and the act of uniformity was designed to create order so
that all the different religious groups could follow a unified religious belief. Elizabeth I ultimate goal
was to create and build a stable, peaceful nation

Ray Bradbury s Essay A Sound Of Thunder
How can the simplest forms of binary coding drive humanity to absolute insanity? The notion that
technology can now make your lives worthless should be a clear and present threat that should push
humanity to fix the problem at hand, but we as humans are the most indecisive, naive, and ludicrous
beings that this earth has to offer. If we could fix the problem, why are we so quick to filter out and
seek methods to destroys us? Ray Bradbury exclaims that technology can destroy humanity; he shows
us examples of corruption affecting both man and machine, traveling in time destroying a set path, and
people betraying one another for the glory of simplicity to emphasize how hazardous technology
could really be.
A wholesome idea that both sides of the defining spectrum between man and machine could

The Human Genome Project Essay
The Human Genome Project is a worldwide research effort with the goal of analyzing the structure of
human DNA and determining the location of the estimated 100,000 human genes. The DNA of a set of
model organisms will be studied to provide the information necessary for understanding the
functioning of the human genome. The information gathered by the human genome project is expected
to be the source book for biomedical science in the twenty first century and will be of great value to
the field of medicine. The project will help us to understand and eventually treat more than 4,000
genetic diseases that affect mankind. The scientific products of the human genome project will include
a resource of genomic maps and DNA sequence information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The overall budget needs for the effort are expected to be about $200 million per year for
approximately 15 years.
Lasers are used in the detection of DNA in many aspects of the project; a very important use is in
sorting chromosomes by flow cytometry. Lasers are also used in confocal fluorescence laser
microscopy to excite fluorescently tagged molecules in genome mapping, in addition to other mapping
uses. In diagnostic applications, lasers are used with fluorescent probes attached to DNA to light up
chromosomes and to create patterns on DNA chips.
From the beginning of the human genome project it was clearly recognized that acquisition and use of
such genetic knowledge would have momentous involvements for both individuals and society and
would pose a number of consequential choices for public and professional deliberation.
As Thomas Lee writes, quot;the effort underway is unlike anything ever before attempted, if
successful, it could lead to our ultimate control of human disease, aging, and death quot;.
Whatever its justification, the human genome project has already inspired society with the hope of
quot;better quot; babies, and one way to deploy pragmatism in the analysis of genetic engineering is to
look at this promise of quot;better quot; babies in its social context: parenthood. Parents hope for
healthy children and, if they could afford it, make choices (such as choosing parental care) to help
quot;engineer quot; healthier babies.

Analysis Of Sandra Bland And The Long History Of Racism In...
We The People A phrase said by many but what power does it hold? America has been overcome with
division of the people from skin color to sides of citizen and law enforcement. Issues that occur on the
streets of America bring authors to write articles in hope to sway readers to support their thoughts, but
instead lead people to see the worst in the opposite side. Sandra Bland 28 year old Female African
American, dies in jail after abuse of a police officer, officer does not get charged with as much as
people believe and this causes an uprise in articles that are used to give readers an opinion on the

He proceeds to explain how because of this the possibility of Officer Encinia ( officer involved with
the case) being a racist or having the mindset of a KKK member is higher than if from a place with
little to no history with racism. The history is especially painful because Waller County was for a time
a beacon of black progress (Long History of Racism). The intended audience are the people who
haven t decided whether they support Sandra Bland or Officer Encinia. An inexperienced audience
would analyze the reading as If the article is either good or bad instead of credible or not credible. But
the last two decades of the century saw an influx of white immigrants from Eastern Europe, and that
dilution of the black vote, along with the end of Reconstruction, reduced blacks to a minority and
slashed their political power. (Long History of Racism). What makes this article not credible is the
amount of bias used to persuade the reader. Last June, a black clergyman alleged that Mathis has
threatened him over such accusations. (Long History of Racism) The authors language and how he
explains the case is what causes this article to be not credible and how the author doesn t stay neutral
to explain both sides of the case. Waller County, as Leah Binkovitz notes, had among the highest
numbers of lynchings in the state between 1877 and 1950, according to a comprehensive report by the

resembles spying because an author writes a story line that containing characters who interact and

The United States and Illegal Immigration Essay
Illegal immigration was an issue in the past and is a pressing problem in the present. The U.S.
Government has been trying to find a resolution to this issue for years. The United States approved the
Immigration Reform and Control Act in 1986, which allowed the American Government to punish
American companies that consciously employed illegal immigrants (Nadadur 1037 1052). The United
States Government Immigration Reform and Control Act has been unsuccessful in controlling illegal
immigration. It is estimated that illegal immigration into the U.S. has a yearly interval of three
hundred fifty thousand people (Rousmaniere 24 25). It is apparent that the 1986 act was not able to
keep a handle on illegal immigration. Illegal immigration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Illegal immigrants help boost the United States economy by paying some taxes. Like American
citizens, illegal immigrants may pay local, state, and federal taxes including sales tax that helps
support government services that they may not be able to access (Ewing 9). Since more American
citizens are becoming aware of the benefits of an education, openings are being created for illegal
immigrants in low paying jobs (Nadadur 1037 1052). Americans, unlike illegal immigrants, have more
diverse careers. Aliens are more concentrated in specific job areas, resulting in a decrease in
immigrant labor cost. This helps boost the United States economy (Carter 777 795). Of the
approximate eleven million illegal immigrants in the U.S., most work in labor intensive jobs. Careers
such as construction and agriculture tend to attract illegal aliens and they account for about twenty
five percent of the work force in these areas (Ewing 9). Ben Bernanke, chairman of the Federal
Reserve admits that illegal immigrants help improve the United States economy and does not suggest
turning them away (qtd. in Quindlen 90). Anna Quindlen, in her article Newcomers By Numbers,
agrees with Bernanke and believes that immigrants are the factor that helps keep prices low. She also
adds that immigrants are not causing American citizens unemployment, but are simply taking the low
wage jobs that citizens are not willing to do and even boosting the economy (90). On the other hand,

Relationships In The Endurance
The Endurance is about the struggle of 28 men who journey through the Antarctic. Shackleton was
able to recruit men to sail on the Endurance to the Antarctic and cross by foot. The men were ready for
adventure and excited to begin the journey with haste, not realizing that they were going to encounter
the struggles of survival. Some of the many ways that they were able to overcome adversity was by
strong relationships, purpose, and cheerfulness.
Having a strong relationship with piers is essential for the times of crisis in times of survival. During
the long polar nights, the crew on board the Belgica suffered from insanity and many lost their lives
due to it. The crew members that were on the Endurance had the reverse effect. They had the desire to
get to know each other even though their characters were contrasting, and they began to draw closer to
each other by talking and sharing experiences. On the Belgica, there was no relationship between the
men, and even one man feared that the men wanted to kill him. The crew members of the Endurance
valued relationship and were able to survive the polar nights. Even in the Bible, God gave Adam a
wife because He knew that it was better for Adam. In Genesis 2:18 it says, And the Lord God said, It
is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him. God created Eve to
be with Adam. God knew that it was better for Adam to have a companion/relationship with Eve. In

a 1,700 year old creature called The Ripper that would take small children, rip them of their skin, and
eat their remains. Supposedly, it was snake like with faded blue and green scales, arms and legs with
six claws each, full blazing yellow eyes, and a long tail with three rows of four sharp spikes. As you
can tell, my grandma was really graphic and dramatic. In a way, her graphicness worked and kept me
away from the street. She would tell my that if I had ever went to the street and it took me, she would
never be able to get over the anguish she would feel. I was always so curious on where the creature
lived; a house, on the streets, in the drains. My mission was to find out where it lived, and defeat it. I
was really intimidated by it, but I knew that with my strength and confidence, I could do great things.
Such as, defeat the old creature.
One windy Friday night, my grandma said she needed to go to the grocery store to pick up some

How Did Marie Antoinette Have A Failing Economy
Infamous queen Marie Antoinette is said to be a very misunderstood girl in history (Covington). Marie
enjoyed a life of luxury, as did many other queens did in history. But during her reign, the country of
France had a failing economy. In any country if the economy is good, people generally believe that
their leaders are great, but if the economy is bad then that s when the people starts turning against their
leaders. That poor economy that France faced had to be blamed on someone, which were blamed on
Marie Antoinette. Marie Antoinette s love of fashion has gotten her killed, but her love has kept her

A1. Bill Bailey
Adam s Equity Theory is a model of motivation which basically states that employees will perform at
a more productive rate if they feel that they are being treated fairly (Kreitner amp; Kinicki, 2010).
Equity is achieved when a worker perceives their reward for their amount of work to be equal to that
of a relevant worker. Negative inequity is perceived by the employee when the relevant worker
receives greater rewards for the same amount of work. Positive inequity is perceived by the employee
when the relevant worker receives fewer rewards for the same amount of work (Kreitner amp;

add that mistakes, if any, were not thoroughly noticeable. The musicians blended well and produced
the right effect based on the musical context. However, when the vocal soloists sang in the final
movement of the Ninth Symphony, their voices were drowned out by the loudness of the orchestra and
large chorus. It did not help that the soloists were located lower than chorus, which made the
perception of hearing the soloists more difficult. The conductor, Hector Guzman, was effective in

Justification And Justification For The Act Of Being Set...
The simple noun justification refers to the act of being set right or made right. Justification, however,
is not just limited to just being corrected. It has influences in other various meanings to it as well. For
example, justification also means the act of removing debt, being vindicated by judge, or having a
relationship restored all fall under the meaning of justification. This is essentially God s act of
removing the sin within us humans while considering us to be righteous through Christ s sacrifice. As
stated in Christ Our Salvation , Those who are righteous will live by faith (Larondelle, 10). This
means that justification must exist in order to have people who live by faith and for these people to be
saved and redeemed. Justification helps to show that we humans are in need of daily justification
through faith in Christ (Abrams, 97). Sanctification is defined to be the act or process by which people
are cleansed and set apart from others to do God s will. Some synonyms used in the New Interpreter s
Dictionary of the Bible are: to be set apart, to dedicate, to purify, to make sacred, and to manifest
holiness. The Dictionary states that to be sanctified is to be graciously taken up and set apart for
participation in the saving or reconciling purposes of God. For Christians, this happens when they
become and remain part of the community of God s people, who are shaped by the Holy Spirit in the
image of God. This is where God makes us Holy. It is done by

If an undesirable had not been sent to an extermination camp, they d be sent to transit camps,

The prisoners were heavily guarded, and if they disobeyed, they would promptly be shot or taken to a

Creativity Is Not An Oxymoron
Introduction
In an ever diversifying global market, creativity has become imperative in empowering innovation
within the market. The demand for creativity has increased, especially in the business market sphere
and a need for managing creativity is evident. However, the coming together of management and
creativity is believed to be incompatible , and mutually destructive by parties from both arts and
management backgrounds (Howkins, 2002, p. 120). If management where a square, creativity would
be a circle, and the two are not complementary shapes, thus many would argue managing creativity to
be oxymoronic. Because of the different characteristics and methods of creativity and management,
this statement seems true surface level. Creativity is an ambiguous term that is subjective and difficult
to measure in a definite form and makes it difficult to manage in one specific way. So how can a
manager maximize the creativity of an individual and how can one manage creativity most effectively
and collectively?
This paper will focus on the idea that managing creativity is not an oxymoron if the right approaches
are implemented. Creativity is necessary for new innovation to happen, but a business s foremost
focus is on growth and profit (Howkins, 2002). Managing creativity is the first step to cultivating new
forms of innovation. For this to happen most successfully acknowledging characteristics consistent to
creative individuals and applying a specific manager or leader who can

What Does Bourdieu s Thinking Tools Mean
Bourdieu s Thinking Tools Explain in writing each concept in your own words Pierre Bourdieu is a
French sociologist who approaches the notion of power via a theory of society. He has six critical
concepts which he believes are the cause of domination in a social structure Habitus, Field, Capital,
Symbolic Violence, Hysteresis and Doxa. He uses these terms to explain the reproduction of
inequality in society. This essay will demonstrate Bourdieu explanations of social structures through
socialisation, wealth, education, culture, norms, opinions and social space. Bourdieu attempts to
answer the question: Will there always be prevalent inequality in society? Habitus: Habitus results
from early socialisation experiences in which external structures are internalised (Swartz, 1997).

A change in one causes a change in the other (Grenfell, 2012). The durability of one s habitus is
dependent on early socialisation and it can be subject to change. In this sense Bourdieu is not
deterministic but he does acknowledge how challenging it would be to change. However, it is possible
for change to occur but it may take some time and only some will benefit. People with high capital can
predict the change in society, therefore they are essentially the only people that will benefit from the
change. In contrast, working class with less capital now move into the previous positions acquired by
those with high volumes of capital. The people with high capital have the power to predict a change in
habitus. Steve Jobs is a prime example of this in that he revolutionised thinking and thus changed
habitus through his development of the iphone. He has high volumes of capital and he determines
what people will need in the future. Context is important because it is how inequality is reproduced
the agents with the high capital create the social structures and in the instance it is Steve

Before this class began, I thought of myself as a person who tended to lean towards science as fact

by experimentation and evidence. Five weeks later, my views haven t changed drastically, but have
instead been developed and broadened. I now understand the importance of the philosophy of science
and why philosophy and science should be interconnected. The need to question things that may

Examples like the theory of Plate Tectonics or the Alvarez Theory of mass extinction are cited as
examples of theory acceptance and when it is appropriate. The overarching theme from Losee is that
there are no rules that can objectively decide the acceptance or rejection of a new theory. This is a
confusing aspect of science, but is reflected in the history of scientific discoveries and those theories
we still hold to be true. Some theories are not necessarily confirmed, but are at the very least agreed
upon from empirical observations. By Lecture Four we covered multiple conceptions of method.
Method is central to the scientific enterprise. The founders of modern science were looking for an
impersonal, objective basis for their knowledge claims. This was coming at a time when science was
separating from religion based belief systems. Method is crucial to determining truth and developing
scientific hypotheses. Without a method in place, the goal of objectivity within science is
compromised. Method is discussed throughout the entirety of Losee s book. Losee generously
discusses theory acceptance, rejection, falsification, and replacement. He aims to show the method
behind these based on historical accounts in science, but as stated before, there is no set group of rules
that govern this. Instead the development of hypotheses and theories that we take are integrated,
comprehensive explanation of many facts. These hypotheses and

The Rise Of The Italian Renaissance
The Italian Renaissance, in contrast to the conservative attitude of the Middle Ages, introduced a
society dominated by a secular, humanistic spirit. One of the most historically significant events of the
Renaissance was the Reformation. Some people argue that the Reformation was a rejection the secular
spirit of the Italian Renaissance. Others assert that the Reformation was an embracement of these
secular ideas. However as with many questions, this issue cannot be given a definite answer. The
events of sixteenth century Europe shows that the Reformation rejected secular ideas in some ways
and embraced them in others. Martin Luther defied the Catholic Church and formed his own ideas on
salvation, embracing secularism. In England, Henry VIII would reject Catholic authority, thereby
accepting the secular spirit. However, he also rejected secularism by continuing to uphold traditional
Catholic theology. Edward VI and Mary I would both establish national religion, of which there was
no questioning, and reject the secular spirit. Elizabeth I also established a national religion, but her
more conservative religious policies reflected her embracement of secular ideas. On the other hand,
John Calvin created a religious sect that was dedicated to ardent religious devotion and righteousness,
thereby rejecting secularism. Thus, the Reformation both rejected and embraced the secular spirit of
the Italian Renaissance.

Preventing Obesity Among School Children through Healthier School Meals
Obesity and overweight are among the pressing health problems among children and adolescents in
the developed world.
Obesity refers to an excess amount of body fat whereas overweight can be measured by the BMI index
or height weight ratio.
According to the WHO (2012), obesity and overweight are the fifth largest risk for global deaths.
Introduction
Obesity and overweight among children and adolescents has increased to more than a third of children
and adolescents (CDC, 2012).
Children and adolescents consume 700 to 1000 more calories per day than required (NCCOR, 2012).
School lunches mostly consist of fried and salty foods, which has prompted ex military officers to call
for legislation on healthy school lunches (Spillius, 2010).
Problem Identification
Such children are likely to have higher risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes in later years (CDC,
2012).
Obesity in children and adolescents can lead to greater susceptibility to the following in later years:
Asthma
High blood pressure
Bone and joint problems
Sleep apnea
Low self esteem
Problem Identification
Children and adolescents often resort to unhealthy ways of controlling weight including: Crash diets
Binge eating, leading to bulimia nervosa Starvation Drugs, e.g. cocaine Laxatives
Hence, there is a need to develop healthy ways of controlling obesity in children.

Regret by Kate Chopin Essay
Regret by Kate Chopin
In the short story Regret by Kate Chopin a woman called Mamzelle Aurélie has to keep a neighbour s

One example for this is that the action takes places within a short period of time, which is quite
precisely two weeks, and the place of action doesn t change; it only plays on the farm.
You could also say that the story features an important and critical moment in Mamzelle Aurélie s life
and that there are just a few characters.
Another very important aspect is the symbol used in this short story. I suppose it is justified to say that
the children are the symbol uniting all different aspects in the story. Before Mamzelle Aurélie had to
keep the children she was leading a very lonely life. As the children were living with her, her life got a
sense and she became a happy person. But after they left her she realized that she wasted her whole
life and regrets everything. Through those children all the different themes of the story like family or
loneliness come together.
Now this is the one hand, but on the other several typical aspects of a short story aren t part of the text.
Already at the beginning of the story we get to know a lot about the main character what gives you the
impression of an introduction.
Additionally Mamzelle Aurélie isn t really an everyday person. She is very special and represents just
a very small part of the readers.
But all in all my opinion is that the story features many typical elements and you can definitely call it

DEBT RELIEF KEY TO POVERTY REDUCTION
The World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) with its view that no poor country faces a
debt burden that it cannot manage, came up with an initiative in 1996 called HIPC initiative. Since
then, the International financial community and the multilateral organizations and governments have
worked tirelessly together to reduce external debt to sustain levels for the many Highly Indebted Poor
Countries. The World Bank and its partner IMF believes that poverty reduction will come by reducing
debt levels of the country.
NEGATIVE OUTCOMES OF HIPC INITIATIVES ON ZAMBIA
The World Bank and the IMF, almost always put conditions to members states to access financial
assistance. HIPC countries like Zambia were not an exceptional.
Four conditions were put in place for HIPC to meet, this includes:
1. be eligible to borrow from the World Bank s International Development Agency.
2. Face an unsustainable debt burden, that cannot be sustain through traditional mechanism debt relief.
3. Have established a track record of reforms and sound policies.
4. Develop a Poverty Reduction Strategic Paper
The technicalities behind the above conditions came at a price, which to date, a little of progress has
been seen. Civic leaders under the leadership of President Levy Mwanawasa of the Republic of
Zambia, were on each other s tails.

The Death Of A Man
He Who Goes Unknown
It was a dark, cold morning, around two or three, when a piercing scream was heard from within a
woods. It was the scream of a man, and it would be the last sound he ever made before his very
unfortunate death. The man would never be seen again by anyone who tried to search, unless they
were smart enough to search for every tiny clue left behind. It was now six in the morning when the
sun shined through Arthur s window. His phone rang, which caused him to wake. He blindly reached
over to the table beside his bed, picking up the phone before he answered it, sitting up in his bed.
Hello?...
A shaky voice replied to his answer.
Yes, hello. I need your help, and I need it now. Someone broke into our house and ... Show more

I just want you to help me find my brother, please!
Arthur sighed.
Could you tell me where you live? I am sure I could investigate and try to see who broke in.
Of course. I live down Maple Street. House number is 880.
I see. That should be nearby. I will arrive as soon as I can.
Thank you so much.
And with that, Arthur hung up the phone, placing it on the table once again. He made his way out of
bed, and began to get dressed as quickly as he could, and ran a brush through his hair to tame it
somewhat. His own brother, Allistair, woke due to the noise Arthur made.
Another case?...
Yes. Someone s brother went missing when a stranger broke into their house. I am going to
investigate, as usual. I am sorry, but I have no time to chit chat. I must go.
Arthur then grabbed up a briefcase, threw on a coat, and took off outside, giving his older brother no
time to ask any more questions.
I suppose I could walk there... His house should not be far if the given address was correct.
Arthur began to walk down the street, looking at the signs with street names until he found Oak Street.
He then began to look at all the different houses, looking for one with the number 880. Not much later,
he found the house, and walked up to the door, knocking on the door with his fist. No answer, He
knocked a little harder and someone finally answered.
You must be Arthur... Please, do come inside. My son is waiting for you in the living room.
A man stood before

How Does Julius Lester Use Of Situational Irony
In the story Brer Rabbit and Brer Lion Julius Lester uses several forms of situational irony and comic
language. An example of situational irony in this story is when the little Brer Rabbit manages to tie
Brer Lion to a tree, capturing him. An example of comic language is what is said in the story once the
animals find out what Brer Rabbit had done. When the animals saw what Brer Rabbit had done to Brer
Lion, you d better believe it was the forty eleventh of Octorerarry before they messed with him again.
In this story the smaller animal outsmarts the bigger and stronger animal.
In the story The Ransom of Red Chief by O. Henry, there is also situational irony and comic language
used throughout the tale. For example Johnny, an ornery

Furthermore the household was patriarchal the dad was the leader and everyone followed suite. In The Little Mermaid the father was Authoritative, although the father laid down the rules he gave his daughter and explanation of why she was in trouble. He was stern but he still showed compassion, and he was just. In Home Alone the mother was authoritative, she was a great disciplinarian, and however by using this parenting style the son Kevin was able to use his problem solving skills to keep him safe. In the movie brave the mother used Authoritarian parenting style, she established she is the Queen and the Queen has the last say. However the daughter was strong willed, and she felt as though the mother was a non involved parent stating she s never there for her. The dangers of being an Authoritarian parent is that children quite often mix it up with the parent not caring or not being involved at all because they don t take the time to hear them out. On the TV show Sopranos the parent s were Authoritative parents, they allowed their son to make decisions on his own and when he messed up they explained to him why he was wrong. However at first the mother was being an Authoritarian because she was upset that she didn t use her better judgment when allowing her son to go to NY although she knew he wasn t ready to make such a trip. Mom decided to compete with dad by being an uninvolved parent and it backfired. The household was Egalitarian both parents made decisions in raising their son although they hey joint ... • 3. Characteristics Of Inspirational Women In The 19th Century B.M.C.C Taneisha Frompton English 353 05W June 18, 2017 Inspirational Women Women in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries have faced many obstacles. Many of these obstacles included inequality of the sexes, slavery, and unheard voices and most importantly recognition. These women all have different stories to tell. Many of these stories progress into greatness despite the difficulties and hardships to hear that voice of victory they ve searched their whole life for. As I observe writers in the 17th 19th century, I ve learned these women struggle with the darkness of being unheard for many years hiding behind their husbands, masters, and etc. because society prefer to treasure men over women who work twice as hard as they normally would do. Phillis Wheatley had to fight in court to prove she wrote her poems because people didn t believe a slave could write poems that speak to the human soul. In her first book , Poems of Various Subjects, Religious and Morals in the poem Imagination she is letting readers know that she imagines herself having a free soul that travels through the air to meet god in heaven. Soaring through air to find the bright abode,Th empyreal palace of the thund ring God (Line 15 16). She became the first African american author to have her work published in 1773. Secondly, in 1797, Sojourner Truth was born in Swartekill Ulster County New York. Sold at the age nine Isabella Baumfree. She was born into slavery along with her other siblings. She ... Specifically, the cultural differences surrounding religious beliefs and video game habits can create barriers to everyday communication that is necessary between roommates. Choosing the correct dorm to live in can be a very stressful decision for many high school seniors and lead to many unintended consequences by being assigned a roommate that is culturally different. During the summer of 2014, my roommates and I connected through Facebook and began to learn about each other s lives. Being assigned a triple room, we began to find many similarities between us, such as snowboarding, longboarding, and music ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These small differences did not bring me to believe we were culturally different, but that we majored in different subjects, which led to our differences in hobbies and lifestyles. When arriving in Boulder, I was faced with more intercultural communicative interactions than at any other time throughout my life in Michigan. While both my roommates were from California, they had shared meanings of certain phrases that I was unfamiliar with before socializing with my roommates. In the greater context, the majority of the intercultural communication that I had practiced back in Michigan were inapplicable while dealing with these new cultures that I was unfamiliar with; however, due to the large amount of immigration to the United States, I was able to adapt to and understand most people I communicated with because of my wide variety of past experiences. Spencer (2002) suggests in one publication that multicultural communication is virtually unavoidable within the United States ( p. 610). Although I agree with Spencer, I would take it a step further to argue that students at the University of Colorado Boulder in particular have the one of the highest rates of intercultural communication interactions based on the wide variety of locations students originate from, the many different belief systems, and the natural open mindedness of the Boulder citizens harnesses the myriad of subcultures that strive in such an accepting ... The occupation of Australia involved an inventory of prejudiced and misguided policies against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples that manifested in the dispossession, physical ill treatment, social disruption, population decline, economic exploitation, codified discrimination and cultural devastation of the first people of this land (Vos, Barker, Begg, Stanley Lopez, 2008, p. 471). The Australian Bureau of Statistics (2005) states Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experience lower levels of employment, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait adults in 2002 being more than twice as likely to be unemployed, compared to mainstream Australian adults. According to international research, there is indication that low socioeconomic status is associated with poor health and increased exposure to health risk factors (Blakely, Hales Woodward, 2004; Turrell Mathers, 2000; Carson, Dunbar, Chenhall Ballie, 2007, as cited in Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2008). Data shows that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people without completion of education were more likely to habitually smoke, consume high volumes of alcohol, engage in low levels of exercise and were less likely to eat fruit and vegetables on a day to day basis (ABS, 2008). Other social influences relating to the issue of poor health include low income, unhygienic living conditions and remote location (Healey, 2002). Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with low income have little available funds for purchasing health care and dietary needs and those living in remote areas have restricted access to health facilities and resources (ABS, 2008; Australian HealthInfoNet, 2013). Such nonlinear relationships can lead to several forms of distortion as summarized below: * A periodic steady state exists and the distorted waveform can be expressed as a Fourier series with a fundamental frequency equal to the power frequency. * A periodic steady state exists and the distorted waveform can be expressed as a Fourier series with fundamental frequency that is a sub multiple of power frequency. * The waveform is aperiodic but perhaps almost periodic. In cases where one project has a higher initial investment than a second mutually exclusive project, the first project may have a lower IRR (expected return), but a higher NPV (increase in shareholders wealth) and should thus be accepted over the second project. A method called marginal IRR can be used to adapt the IRR methodology to this case.  Another problem with the IRR method is that it may give different rates of return. Suppose there are two discount rates (two IRRs) that make the present value equal to the initial investment. In this case, which rate should be used for comparison with the cutoff rate? The purpose of this question is not to resolve the cases where there are different IRRs.  Under IRR it is assumed that all the intermediate cash flows are reinvested at the IRR which always not hold true. Which approach is better  Both NPV and IRR methods yield better decision making data based off them being sophisticated capital budgeting techniques and consider time value of money and life time of the project.  NPV and IRR methods yield better decision making data based off them being sophisticated capital budgeting techniques as NPV implicitly assumes that any intermediate cash inflows generated by an investment are reinvested at the firm s cost of capital.  ... Battelheim Meaning In the introduction of Bruno Bettelheim s, The Uses of Enchantment, the struggle for meaning is not just something that the young deal with but people in all stages of life. Bettelheim suggest that our experiences in life can contribute to our development in understanding the meaning of life. Bettelheim states that, The child, as he develops, must learn step by step to understand himself better; with this he becomes more able to understand others, and eventually can relate to them in ways which are mutually satisfying and meaningful. Bettelheim acknowledges that children s literature should add significance, adee access to a deeper meaning, stimulate emotions, and enrich a child s life. Bettelheim suggest that this kind of meaning can be found in fairy tales. • 14. Don Quixote Sparknotes In Miguel de Cervantes book Don Quixote, the protagonist of this book is Don Quixote, a man who has gone mad and assumed the identity of a knight errant. Don Quixote wanders the countryside in search of maidens to save, duels to engage in, and enchanters to stop. The comedic element of this book revolves around Don Quixote s unbreaking faith in the stories of chivalry which he reads. Our main character gets himself into countless embarrassing scrapes due to the fact that he thinks fairies, enchanters, and dragons exist. In the famous story of the windmill, where Don Quixote mistakes a windmill for a giant, we see that his worldview is greatly warped by the stories which he has read. Miguel de Cervantes is by no means a silent narrator, he often inputs his opinions and uses insults to describe the protagonist, using phrases such as madman or fool . Cervantes uses the great faith Don Quixote exhibits to input his own raillery against faith. Teenagers And The Young Adult Chart Teenagers are the most perceptive individuals in every society they are just learning and experiencing the real world without yet developing the mask and filter of adults; they see things how they are, and they say things the way they are. They still have the innate curiosity of children without the apathy that seems so rampant among those who actually have the power to change. This is why it is so important to know how teenagers view the world, because they will be making up the world in a few decades. There is no better way to know how they think than by examining the literature they read. Over the past few years, dystopian novels have topped the young adult charts. It is easy to just write off the similarities between teenage aimed novels as just a standard story writing formula for making money. However, by looking deeper into what these similarities really mean, we can learn that these stories are similar for very important reasons. As Utopian scholar Lyman Tower Sargent s states, It is particularly important that we understand the dreams and nightmares that are directed at children and young adults (Hintz Ostry, 234). First, we need to take a look at what dystopian fictions are, by definition. According to Aristotle, author of the Poetics, all forms of art perform mimesis. Epic poetry and tragedy, as also comedy, dithyrambic poetry, and most pipe playing and lyre playing, are all, viewed as a whole, modes of imitation (Aristotle) This concept of mimesis ... Elizabeth I And Later The English Monarchs Essay Elizabeth 1 To the best of my understanding Elizabeth I and later the English Monarchs with regard to religious uniformity, believed in, and were in search of a religious settlement that would bring peace for all the people. You could draw the conclusion that this very Act of Uniformity proclaimed by Elizabeth I in 1559 which was actually made up of two separate acts of Parliament, have in part created the religious freedoms we enjoy today. My thesis would be that this religious uniformity would shape a lot of things that would come to pass later on in life, as Elizabeth I ideas and beliefs would set a tone that would shape religion and the beliefs on how to worship that still go on this this current day. One of The act of Supremacy and the act of uniformity, the act of Supremacy re established England s independence from Rome, while the act of uniformity established a set form of worship and made church attendance on Sundays and holy days something that was obligatory. In this sense Bourdieu is not deterministic but he does acknowledge how challenging it would be to change. However, it is possible for change to occur but it may take some time and only some will benefit. People with high capital can predict the change in society, therefore they are essentially the only people that will benefit from the change. In contrast, working class with less capital now move into the previous positions acquired by those with high volumes of capital. • 33. The Philosophy Of Science And Science Before this class began, I thought of myself as a person who tended to lean towards science as fact based and found it hard to believe in some philosophical and religious claims that were not backed up by experimentation and evidence. Five weeks later, my views haven t changed drastically, but have instead been developed and broadened. I now understand the importance of the philosophy of science and why philosophy and science should be interconnected. The need to question things that may appear to be factual is something I now consider more than ever crossed my mind before this course. At the beginning of the course, starting in Lecture One, we discussed the problem of knowledge and the nature of scientific knowledge. The problem of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Examples like the theory of Plate Tectonics or the Alvarez Theory of mass extinction are cited as examples of theory acceptance and when it is appropriate. The overarching theme from Losee is that there are no rules that can objectively decide the acceptance or rejection of a new theory. This is a confusing aspect of science, but is reflected in the history of scientific discoveries and those theories we still hold to be true. Some theories are not necessarily confirmed, but are at the very least agreed upon from empirical observations. By Lecture Four we covered multiple conceptions of method. Method is central to the scientific enterprise. The founders of modern science were looking for an impersonal, objective basis for their knowledge claims. This was coming at a time when science was separating from religion based belief systems. Method is crucial to determining truth and developing scientific hypotheses. Without a method in place, the goal of objectivity within science is compromised. Method is discussed throughout the entirety of Losee s book. Losee generously discusses theory acceptance, rejection, falsification, and replacement. He aims to show the method behind these based on historical accounts in science, but as stated before, there is no set group of rules that govern this. Instead the development of hypotheses and theories that we take are integrated, comprehensive explanation of many facts. These hypotheses and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. The Rise Of The Italian Renaissance The Italian Renaissance, in contrast to the conservative attitude of the Middle Ages, introduced a society dominated by a secular, humanistic spirit. One of the most historically significant events of the Renaissance was the Reformation. Some people argue that the Reformation was a rejection the secular spirit of the Italian Renaissance. Others assert that the Reformation was an embracement of these secular ideas. However as with many questions, this issue cannot be given a definite answer. The events of sixteenth century Europe shows that the Reformation rejected secular ideas in some ways and embraced them in others. Martin Luther defied the Catholic Church and formed his own ideas on salvation, embracing secularism. In England, Henry VIII would reject Catholic authority, thereby accepting the secular spirit. However, he also rejected secularism by continuing to uphold traditional Catholic theology. Edward VI and Mary I would both establish national religion, of which there was no questioning, and reject the secular spirit. Elizabeth I also established a national religion, but her more conservative religious policies reflected her embracement of secular ideas. On the other hand, John Calvin created a religious sect that was dedicated to ardent religious devotion and righteousness, thereby rejecting secularism. Thus, the Reformation both rejected and embraced the secular spirit of the Italian Renaissance. In order to effectively analyze the Reformation in relation the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is why Mamzelle Aurélie, who has never ever has children before, has to keep them. At the beginning she has great problems with managing those children. One example for this is that the action takes places within a short period of time, which is quite precisely two weeks, and the place of action doesn t change; it only plays on the farm. You could also say that the story features an important and critical moment in Mamzelle Aurélie s life and that there are just a few characters. Another very important aspect is the symbol used in this short story. I suppose it is justified to say that the children are the symbol uniting all different aspects in the story. Before Mamzelle Aurélie had to keep the children she was leading a very lonely life. As the children were living with her, her life got a sense and she became a happy person. But after they left her she realized that she wasted her whole life and regrets everything. Through those children all the different themes of the story like family or loneliness come together. Now this is the one hand, but on the other several typical aspects of a short story aren t part of the text. Already at the beginning of the story we get to know a lot about the main character what gives you the impression of an introduction. Additionally Mamzelle Aurélie isn t really an everyday person. She is very special and represents just a very small part of the readers. But all in all my opinion is that the story features many typical elements and you can definitely call it a short ...
