Frigaliment Importing Co. v. B.N.S. International Sales Corp. Facts: Frigaliment Importing
Company sued B.N.S. claiming that B.N.S. had breached warranties in two contracts that they
had entered. In the first of the two contracts Frigalimnet had agreed to sell 75,000 pounds of 2.5

Furthermore the assumption of Frigaliment claiming that the weight difference of the chickens
was sufficient enough to determine a young chicken from an older chicken, that would not fit
into the lesser weight category did not establish a clear definition. This was clearly an
assumption that was not defined in the contract between the parties. B.N.S. acted accordingly by
delivering per the contract, chickens. II. Discuss the difference between Procedural Due Process
and Substantive Due Process Due Process is the legal requirement that before the government
can deprive a person of their fundamental rights (life, liberty, property) they must be afforded
some sort of hearing, and that the government must (1) inform the individual, usually in a form
of a written notice or other approved means. (2) The individual must be given an opportunity to
present their side of the story to a decision making authority. (3) Finally the right to appeal with
the outcome if the individual is not fully satisfied. Individuals are protected against the power of
the law and land by Due Process. Substantive Due Process is aimed at protecting individuals
against majoritarian policy enactments, such as laws that are too broad or too vague and infringe
on our fundamental rights. Courts may find that a majority s ruling is not a law and should not be

The Conversation Between Men And Women
In the article Talk in the Intimate Relationship: His and Hers by Deborah Tannen, you will begin
to see and discover the differences in conversation between men and women. Discussed
throughout this paper are the importance of metamessages, an overview of Tannen s article,
whether Tannen is fair in her article toward both men and women and whether I agree with
Tannen s article as well as experiences of my peer s and myself. Part 1: Metamessages Deborah
Tannen defines metamessages as a way you want to be understood without saying what you mean
explicitly in words and you must convey meaning somewhere else in how words are spoken.
Tannen points out that it stands to reason that women are often more attuned than men to the
metamessages of talk. She makes a point as to how significant metamessages are. She also
explains that metamessages are a form of indirectness and that women try to reach agreement
through negotiation, which is also a women s way of displaying solidarity or power. Tannen gives
an example of a wedding anniversary where the women wanted to have the cake served that night
because they were thinking of the metamessage; serving a special cake frames an occasion as a
celebration. The men suggested it was a good idea to save the cake for the next day, focusing on the
message that the cake is just food. Tannen says that women are more used to metamessages because
unlike men, women pay more attention to involvement and through metamessages, relationships

COMPAIRING ARTISTIC PERIODS
RENAISSANCE ART AND MANNERISM ART
WESTERN GOVERNORS UNIVERSITY
IWT1 TASK1
COMPARING ARTISTIC PERIODS
The Renaissance period was from roughly the 14th century to the 17th century of the common era
(CE) beginning in Italy later spreading throughout Europe. The word Renaissance comes from the
original Italian word Rinascimento or rinascere which means to be reborn according to Harper
(2012).
The influence of the Renaissance movement can be observed in art, music, science, religion,
politics, philosophy, literature, as well as other areas of intellectual inquiry. The Renaissance
brought about a way of thinking focused on the bettering the person and having a well rounded and
educated person in all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another characteristic of this period is the lack of distinct or realistic perspective in renderings.
Michelangelo was one of the first artist who pioneered the Mannerism at the Laurentian Library in
Florence Italy according to Britannica (2012). One such painting that employed the Mannerism
characteristics such as eroticism and obscure imagery is the Madonna with the Long Neck
painted by Girolamo Francesco Maria Mazzola, also known as Parmigianino (Artble, 2012). In
1520 the humanistic model of the classical Renaissance such as the serenity, beauty, and order
began to break down as a negative world view began to emerge due to machinations and wars of
Spain, France, and the Holy Roman Empire. (Ozarks, 2012)
Both paintings represent the Madonna (the Virgin Mary) with the baby Jesus on her lap. In the
previous painting, the arch vault and throne on which the mother is seated is stylized very
realistically along with the saints surrounding them are all in proportion to themselves and to each
other. In the later painting the pose of the Madonna is elongated and exaggerated, the baby in the
later painting is quite large and the angels in the picture are crammed to one side with a prophet on
the opposite which is very small not coming up to the Madonna s knee.

Battle Of Cowshed Language Analysis
Donald Trump 2016 President of the United States. Well not quite yet. Trump in his campaign for

and scapegoating to boost his political campaign just as like Squealer boosts himself to power.
Throughout the book Squealer, continuously uses biased language, in his rhetoric, which leads to
him control the animals. Squealer says that Snowball was Jones s secret agent the whole time and
the Battle of Cowshed was an arrangement. Did we not see for ourselves how he attempted
fortunately without success to get us defeated and destroyed at the Battle of the Cowshed? This
quote shows the biases Squealer has against Snowball, in which he is basically saying Snowball
had plan this all long and it was his fault for the battle. This evidence is very emotional and well

The Appointment By Aphra Behn
Aphra Behn s The Disappointment addresses three main conflicts regarding gender, power and
sexuality. Behn challenges the traditional gender roles accepted by the British society during the
17th century; that men are always in a position of power, by making Cloris, her female character
dominant over the male character Lysander and giving her the authority. Behn further challenges
the position of men in being the dominant genderin the sexual sphere and discusses masculine
identity and how it is measured by the ability of men to successfully perform and satisfy women s
sexual desires, and how women take charge and be in control when men s perform poorly.
The poem begins with two lovers who are about to make love, and from the very beginning ... Show

Here, Cloris pulls her lover to her body and the poet uses the verb permits which implies that she
is in power to choose whether she wants to give Lysander her virginity or not and that she s not
being forced to do anything without her own desire. Behn expands the conflicts of gender
dominance and sexuality in the rest of the poem. The traditional gender roles are being
overthrown when Lysander is incapable of pleasing Cloris. Here, Behn is addressing the women
dominance over men. Lysander s masculinity is being questioned and, for this reason, he is
feeling ashamed. In addition, Behn is using religious language to support her claims But oh
what envious gods conspire/ To snatch his power, yet leave him the desire! (79,80). Here Behn
is referring to Cloris as god and Lysander isn t satisfying her sexual desires. The fact that his sexual
performance is not fulfilling his lover s needs, Cloris is able to take away her lover s power and
make him feel insecure. In the next stanzas Lysander s impotence is shown as the reason behind
Cloris s empowerment and the purpose of Lysander s feelings of rage and shame Now all the brisk

Throughout most of its history, the Coors Brewing Company (Coors) has been a regionalized
brewer within the United States, specializing in high quality beer through by virtue of its source
water selection, stringent production standards, and cold filtered brewing approach. As the
company expanded its distribution to new markets within the U.S. in attempt to gain market share,
it made a strategic decision to maintain a majority of its brewing operations at its primary

During that time Coors also pioneered the aluminum can a standard in the beverage industry today.
Much of what has been accomplished by Coors over the past century has been at the management
hands of the Coors family. In the 21st century, the beer industry landscape changed dramatically. It
has evolved into a competitive industry that competes internationally at multiple levels. Coors is
looking to continue to grow and become the 5th largest brewer by volume worldwide. Many
questions arise, however, and many challenges must be met to accomplish this goal. Will Coors be
able to maintain its family culture business structure on an international stage or will it have to give
up family control to achieve its growth goal? Will Coors attempt, at least on some level, to grow its
core product organically? And if so, how will the company address its distribution logistics issues of
product delivery from Golden, Colorado? Can Coors maintain the quality level on an international
stage that has become synonymous with its domestic reputation? In essence, does the Rocky
Mountain King have the necessary competencies within the current management, and within its
business strategy/approach to become an international company? III. Industry Analysis

The State Children s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) was initiated in response to the plight
of uninsured children, who were estimated to number 10.1 million (nearly one quarter of all
uninsured) in 1996. SCHIP is available to families with incomes up to 200 percent of the federal
poverty level. The poverty level is a key player in fixing the US health care system (Singh Shi,
2008, p. 219).
Secondly, the United States has en employer based financing system. In most states, employers are
not mandated to offer health insurance to their employees; therefore, some employers, due to
economic constraints, do not offer it. Economic constraints are also a major problem that must be
dealt with. If we started by introducing a bill that mandates employers to offer health insurance, we
could decrease the number of insured. Although many working class Americans cannot afford to
get an insurance policy, the benefit is that employees get group rates through their employer. The
group rates are generally lower than what the rates would be if the employees were to purchase
health insurance on their own (Singh Shi, 2008, p. 8).

such as Canada, the government finances health care

Analysis Of In The Kitchen By Henry Louis Gates
In text In the Kitchen , writer Henry Louis Gates Jnr shows how the importance of culture, pride
and appearance construct the identity of many African Americans. Gates text is centred around the
kitchen , a word with a double meaning, the kitchen is the basis for the whole text where pride is
centred and hair conditioning takes place. Gates uses elements of writing such as textual form,
figurative language, idiom and tone to establish construct the identities of the African American
society through the narrator s eyes. In this academic essay, I will be giving examples for these
elements of writing and how Gates has used them to shed different lights on the narrator s story,
letting the reader experience increasingly of the African American society.
Textual form is an important part of this text, Gates uses first person narration to let the reader
experience the African American culture from his own eyes. At first, we are introduced to the
kitchen at first, we are unaware of what the relation is to hair, in this quote the narrator defines
just this But the word has another meaning, and the kitchen I m speaking of now is the very
kinky bit of hair at the back of the head, where the neck meets the shirt collar. If there ever was
one part of our African past that resisted assimilation it was the kitchen. No matter how hot the
iron, no matter how powerful the chemical, no matter how stringent the mashed potatoes and lye
formula of a man s process neither God nor woman nor Sammy Davis could straighten the kitchen.
The kitchen was permanent irredeemable invincible kink , (42). This quote shows a lot about the
context of the African American society, with a sense of pride in their heritage and who they are
although they may want straightened white hair they don t want to be white. Another aspect of
textual form Gates uses is thematical structure, shown especially through the theme pride. The
narrator shows immense pride for his mother right from the beginning of the text, this quote is
him expressing how he finds his mothers work unbelievable showing great honour to her every
scored kink could be transformed through grease and fire into a magnificent head of wavy hair was
a miracle to me still is . Gates

Effectiveness Of The Reduction Recidivism Rates
Effectiveness
Effectiveness is the reduction in recidivism rates; more specifically, the reduction in the
likelihood to be arrested for a new crime, or for committing a parole violation. Unlike research on
the implementation of DRC s, there is not a need for a more in depth look at the benefits of
overcorwding jails and increasing incarceration costs. Costs, as mentioned earlier, are significantly
more than the costs associated with the implementation of a DRC. In addition, the steady increase
in occupants of the RHRJ has lead to contracting out of beds at other jail facilities due to the lack of
space and reduction in offenders. A continuation of the status quo, housing offenders in the RHRJ
until an additional facility with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, in addition to the trained personnel, the building infrastructure must also be included
in the feasibility of administrative capcity. Unlike the staffing for the DRC, the staffing required
for the continuation of housing offenders in the RHRJ until an additional facility is built, is
heavily reliant on the number of offenders in jail at a given time. As seen in figure 1 in the
appendix, there are several staffing needs to be met. Given the projected growth in the jail
population, the number of personnel required to provide services and programs is not adequate; it
is especially not supportive of future expansion of programs and services for the community
(Moseley Architects, 2014).
Cost
Several cost components factor into the traditional incarceration model. The figure that is
commonly discussed within the correctional system is the per day incarceration cost. It represents
the amount of funding necessary to house one inmate for one day at the RHRJ facility. According
to Captain Shortell, the per day incarceration cost for 2013 was $73.35, and there was a slight
reduction for 2014 down to $72.33. These figures will be used in subsequent calculations to
compare costs of the Day Reporting Center to the traditional incarceration option. With an average
per day incarceration occupancy of 350 beds, the yearly figure for housing the inmates equals a
staggering $9.24 million.
As the Mosely study identified, the RHRJ often was operating at well over 150%

The Iliad s Ares-The Greek God Of War
Ares, God of War
Ares the Greek God of War was a important but highly feared god as well as being hated by most
other gods. His symbols that he is known for is the spear, helmet, dog, chariot, boar, vulture, and
a flaming torch. Ares also has two sacred animals one being a vulture and the other one being a
dog. Ares is described to have almost no personality however he is known to be highly
aggressive, very unstable, and dangerous in battle. In the Iliad he is described to hateful,
murderous, bloodstained, and to be the incarnate curse of mortals. Even though he was feared but
most gods he was also referred to as a coward because if he was just slightly injured in battle he
would become outraged and leave the battle because of that injury. Ares is the son of Zeusand Hera

Analysis Of The Novel Uncle Tom s Cabin
Catlin Hetrick
Literature and Culture
In Uncle Tom s Cabin, Stowe not only tackles the structure of slavery itself, but depicts femininity
through the development and representation of good, Christian values. Stowe designates the role of
mother and homemaker to said females present in the novel, both living and dead. Frequent
establishment of the portrayal of the female figure furthers Stowe s pro domesticity stance and the
woman s ability to indirectly undermine the structure of slavery. These descriptions serve as
testaments to solidify the notion that Stowe s end goal, getting people to feel right, is dependent
upon the potential of the Christian mother figure. While the shortcomings of the mother/child

and Mrs. Byrd, for example. These female/male comparisons illustrate Stowe s faith in the maternal
role and the power that women possess.
To elucidate the aforementioned ability of the maternal figure it must be known that the ideal
nature of this influence is an indirect one. Rather than direct action from the women, Stowe
emphasizes the ability of women to exert a positive moral influence over the men around her.
Moral guidance from the women, then, may serve to subtly sway the actions of men, who can
transform societal structure. An example of said notion in action is found in the aforementioned
Mrs. Byrd berating her husband for his support of the Fugitive Slave Act. Now, John, I don t know

Communistic Ideology In George Orwell s Animal Farm
Communistic Ideology in Animal Farm At fifty everyone has the face he deserves (Orwell). With
these being his last words, I believe Orwell was trying to explain that you make who you will
become, and with this there is a point of no return. In relation to communism this point is
communistic rule. This dictatorship can often be expressed differently depending on the advocate s
ideas, feelings, and views on social status. Communism, in general, was a prominent theme in the
book Animal Farm. George Orwell gives Old Major characteristics not unlike some of the most
largely influential communists. The idea of communism often involves a strong sense of
individualism and selfishness (Shaoqi). In Animal Farm we see this in the quote All animals are
equal but some more than others (Orwell 92). These ethics are strongly conveyed by Karl Marx.
Karl Marx can be compared to Old Major through their mutual ideas of unity and equality. Marx
believed in a state of social equality. [Marx] describes about his concept of a classless society...
[he imagines communism] is the state of equality among people (www.bachelorandmaster.com).
Major expresses this same idea through a similar experience. Last night... [Beasts of England]
came back to me in my dream (Orwell 9). They go on to sing Beasts of England united as one,
paralleling Marx s idea of equality. Vladimir Lenin, another influential communist, can also be
compared to Old Major. Both of them were advocates for socialism and communism but never
got to actually see them go through. Let the socialist snivellers croak, let the bourgeoisie rage
and fume, but only people who shut their eyes so as not to see, and stuff their ears so as not to
hear, can fail to notice that all over the world the birth pangs of the old, capitalist society, which is
pregnant with socialism, have begun (Lenin). He never truly meant for it to progress to a form of
extreme communism, just as Old Major hadn t either. Old Major s ideas and thoughts were different
than what was carried out by some of his supporters. There were many who disagreed with the
views on extremism and wanted to expand their reign both through manipulation and expansion.

Dystopian Differences In The Hunger Games And The Hunger...
Dystopian films and books have become popular over the past few years. These tend to reflect
the way in which society could possibly soon turn if expecting extremes. Dystopian literature and
media also tend to have utopian elements as well. While the societies in these works are strict
and controlling, they do offer something that our society could possibly benefit from. Divergent
has this element. The population is broken up into five factions that represent the different types
of people in society and separate those who would fight easily due to their personal morals. The
Hunger Games on the other hand (when modern society crumbled) they punished their citizens
for fighting the government. While yes there was a chance for riches in the Hunger Games, it
took risking your life to get it. In addition, if one did win the Hunger Games they would have an
extremely easy life due to riches and a free luxury house. Divergent does not have this part, as its
utopian aspect is the fact different ideals are separated from each other. Utopian literature is a
reflectionthat is a perceived direction society may go. In these stories, mirrorsare a device used to
symbolically state the universe of the filmis a reflection not a reality. The Hunger Games series is
based of the book trilogy of the same name. In this series, the Hunger Games are a pageant based
on a punishment for a rebellion that occurred approximately 100 years before. In this pageant, two

piece. I originally heard this piece last summer at a concert performed here at UNI when I came
to visit. I have always been intrigued by history and this song portrayed a very deep historical
meaning. For this reason, I chose to analyze this piece not only musically but through a historical
lens.
Imagine a horrible firestorm of death and destruction now imagine that scene put into music. This is
exactly what Symphony #1 by Daniel Bukvich attempts to do. He uses music in a way to portray a
picture that many of us cannot even imagine. Hours of listening and studying ... Show more content

The bombing of Dresden took place during the second world war between February 13 and 15,
1945. Prior to this time Germany had held a practice of bombing British cities to create chaos
and to break the British Moral in hopes of forcing the British to surrender. This approach had not
been successful up until this point. Both the allied and axis powers soon took up the bombing
of industrial cities. The main goal of these bombings was for the most part to disrupt
communication, and production of materials necessary for the war. The secondary objective
was to disrupt moral of the people hoping that they would push back against the government
pressuring them into surrendering. Dresden was a major cultural and geographical epicenter.
During this time Dresden was a major center for refugees fleeing the on pushing Soviet Union.
The bombing of Dresden helped to prove to the Soviet Union that the rest of the allied powers
would support them with air support. However, the controversy of Dresden arises from the fact
that the allied powers claimed Dresden was a major industrial center with major production
centers for war goods. However, Germany claims that Dresden had no industry whatsoever. The
issue arises that there is no definitive proof either way. The issue that arises from this is the
claim that the allied powers bombed Dresden for the sole purpose of murder of citizens for
morale reasons. In 1945 Dresden had become a major center for refugees fleeing from the
Russian army. The bombing in theory would cause massive chaos among civilians disrupting
troop advancements to and from the front. Either way the Bombing of Dresden was massively
destructive killing many people. On the thirteenth two waves of bombers dropped bombs on the
city. The first wave used high explosive to uncover the wooden frames to buildings. Once the
wood was exposed a second wave of bombings used incendiary bombs to burn the wood. This

Literary Criticism of Swift’s Poetry Essay
Literary Criticism of Swift s Poetry
In her article, Voyeurism in Swift s Poetry, Louise K. Barnett explores the trend of voyeurism m
the works of Jonathan Swift. She speaks broadly about the use of this technique in his work and
concentrates on a few poems including The Lady s Dressing Room. Barnett believes that Swift s
poetry tends to be more voyeuristic than it is obsessed with excrement and decay. To support this,
she maintains that each poem centers around the experience of seeing the obscenity (i.e. The Lady s
Dressing Room revolves around Strephon s response to Celia s dirt and dung) rather than the
obscenity.
Barnett claims that the act should offend readers more than the content: What is seen [in Swift] a

. . once removed from the experience depicted and also distanced from it both by our lack of
responsibility for it and by the medium of language. Conveniently, there is a primary voyeur
who can absorb the opprobrium attached to the forbidden looking, leaving us guiltlessly looking
at words. 18 Barnett makes the distinction between active and passive voyeurism. Swift acts as
the active voyeur insofar that he had to actually wander around a lady s dressing room or watch
a lady strip in order to be able to write his poems. The reader assumes the role of the passive
voyeur, the one who simply listens to or reads the exploits of the active voyeur. However, Barnett
maintains, the passive voyeur stills looks or reads. By choosing to read, [continuing to read,] and
thus recreate the voyeuristic experience, we become implicated, seeing what the poem sees. (18))
Even though the reader is twice removed from the active voyeur in The Lady s Dressing Room,
(Strephon tells the tale to the narrator who tells the tale to the reader) he or she still becomes a
voyeur because he or she continues to read just as the narrator continues his tale despite his protests
to the contrary. This voyeuristic technique entraps the reader, drawing the reader in only to shame
him or her.
However, Barnett claims, the reader rationalizes the experience. First, the reader recognizes his or
her role as a passive voyeur. Then, the

Joseph Haydn s Lifelong Involvement With The String Quartet
Joseph Haydn (1732 1809) s lifelong involvement with the string quartet began in the 1750s with
a series of works that proved to be among the most auspicious fruits of his early maturity. Haydn
had enjoyed success as a singer at the cathedral and at court until his eighteenth year, but from
that time on he was obliged to fend for himself as a freelance teacher and musician. As the
occasion arose Haydn tried his hand in a variety of musical genres, composing sacred works, and
pieces of instrumental music. He attracted the attention of music loving patrons. For several
years before he served as music director to Count Karl Joseph Franz Morzin (1717 83), in 1757 or
58, Haydn worked for the family of Baron Carl Joseph FГјrnberg (ca.1727 67),... Show more

Although this oeuvre mirrors many of the stylistic concerns of the period and of Haydn s music
overall, the features that most distinguish the quartets are their use of conversational textures and
devices, their persistent elevation and seriousness, which is intensified rather than undercut by
their pervasive wit, and their strikingly tactile and performative use of the medium. On the basis
of this achievement, it is proper to regard Haydn as the creator of a new genre. The account
transmitted by Haydn s friend and biographer Georg August Griesinger (1769 1845) makes no
reference to precedents. Although it appears that at least two contemporaries wrote comparable
works for four string parts at around the same time, Haydn s works nonetheless stand out by
virtue of their technical polish, structural control, and sure grasp of the medium s possibilities.
Haydn s quartets were so influential not only because they are great works in a genre whose time
had evidently come, but also because they were so immediately and widely published. In the
summer of 1795, Haydn returned to Vienna from the second visit to England. And in the following
year, he began work on the monumental compositions for vocal soloists, chorus, and orchestra that
dominated the final stage of his career: the two late oratorios, The Creation (1796 98) and The
Seasons (1799 1801), and the large scale concerted

Why School Should Be Searched
firstly, I think that school should be searched because it would make the school safe. It will
make the school safer because it will get rid of drug and weapon in the school. BY searching the
school for drugs it will send the drugs to jail and or to drug abuse place to help them. Also by
arrested the kid that have drugon them it will teaches them a lesson to not do drug and not to
bring them to school. Also you can find there deal and send him to jail for traffic . Over all it
would make the city and the school s better as there is one more drug dealer off the street to sell
to kids. with one of the effect of most drug is that impact your learning, so if there were no
people that do drug in the school the school avenge will go up and less of a chance of doing
stupid thing like starting a fight or bring a weapon to school. Also by getting rid of weapon at
school it will make them safe. there have been many shooting in Canada and around the world.
Most notably in the USA. But Canada still has it fair share of shooting such as 2013: Les
Racines de vie Montessori were two men died during the shooting. 2006: Dawson College,

Immanuel Kant s Formalism Theory
Kant s Formalism Theory The theories of Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher, have had an
impact on the formulation and shaping of ethics today. Immanuel Kant graced this earth from 1724
to 1804. During his eighty year life time, he formulated many interesting ideas regarding ethical
conduct and motivation. Kant is strictly a non consequentialist philosopher, which means that he
believes that a person s choices should have nothing to do with the desired outcome, but instead
mankind simply goes about doing good because it is morally correct. Kant theorizes that moral
reasoning is not based on factual knowledge and that reason by itself can reveal the basic
principles of morality. Ideas contemplated and developed and theorized by... Show more content on

If you want to reach a specific goal, then you will accomplish these tasks. On the other hand,
categorical laws apply to everyone. Regardless of goals or desired outcome, the categorical
imperative commands unconditionally. (Shaw, 67) Kant developed another idea which
exemplifies that of the categorical imperative. The principle of universal acceptability states that
as rational, moral beings, individuals are bound by logic and its demands. Because logic is
consistent, individuals all live by the same moral law. in order to determine whether a rule is a
moral law, we can thus ask if the rule commands would be acceptable to all rational beings acting
rationally. (Shaw, 67) Kant s view of universal acceptability appears to be intertwined with
echoes of the golden rule. Another famous theory developed by Kant further explaining the
categorical imperative is the idea of humanity as an end and never merely as a means. Individuals
should never treat someone a special way in an effort to get gain. In other words, Kant developed
the theory we hear in nursery school of, treat others as you would like to be treated. Logically, this
theory states that rational beings recognize their worth and the worth of others. As a rational
thinker, one would not want to be used as a means to an end. Immanuel Kant s formalism theory
poses many compelling and interesting points of view. On the surface, the categorical imperative
seems to be a great measuring device

Why Is Chivalry To Build A Better World
In a time where vulgar diseases and vile wars were rampant, people needed something to live by,
they needed a purpose, chivalry. Today, we have looming towers, hospitals, structure, and
government. There are no viral diseases like those of the dark ages but, the ideas of chivalry could
still help the world today. Although chivalryhas codes for warfare, it encourages the prevention of
crime and warfare. If people abide by this and don t commit crime then the rising crime rates will
decrease and people will have better lives. Since 2015 there was a 4.1% increase in the crime
rate. This number could be decreasing rather than increasing if people followed the codes of
chivalry. Abiding by chivalry could decrease tension between countries because it encouraged
honor and no desire for war. A great example of how this could help is by looking at Germany in
the early 1900 s, later the Germans lost WWI and were in massive debt then they started WWII and
lost, which put them even more in debt.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of Houston. In response, a professional player named J.J. Watt did a chivalrous act. He began

37 million dollars. Chivalry also gives a guideline between right and wrong. Everyday, people are
put in situations between right and wrong and the easiest response is usually the wrong one. This is
where chivalry would help those that struggle with doing the right

The And Of The Renaissance
When describing Giuseppe Arcimboldo s artwork, scholars consistently use one term: bizarre.
Indeed, among his most famous paintings are that which feature human faces composed out of
food, animals, and household objects. Modern viewers have viewed these composite paintings
amusingly. However, there is more depth and context to Arcimboldo s art than simply to serve as
forms of entertainment. Research suggests Arcimboldo masked social critiques and political
messages in his paintings, which were reflective of the ongoing intellectual currents of the
Renaissance. As best put by Thomas DaCosta Kaufmann, Arcimboldo s paintings can be seen not
as bizarre fancies, but as the expression of the complicated intellectual world of the late sixteenth
century (Elhard 117). Therefore, this paper will examine Arcimboldo s background as an artist,
analyses of his composite paintings, and the relationship his artwork had to Renaissance
scholarship. Arcimboldo was an Italian artist who worked in the courts of emperors Ferdinand I,
Maximilian II, and Rudolf IIduring the sixteenth century, the period of the Renaissance. During his
employment, Arcimboldo produced and designed tapestries, stained glass windows, festival
staging, and costumes. However, he is most famous for his avant garde paintings of composite
heads. These paintings were comprised of objects fruit, vegetables, books, etc. associated with the
allegorical meanings of the subjects (Elhard 116). The inspiration behind these

Henrik Ibsen s Hedda Gabler and Bertolt Brecht s Mother Courage and Her Children
Henrik Ibsen s Hedda Gabler and Bertolt Brecht s Mother Courage and Her Children present two
strongly defined female heroines whose actions not only adversely affect the other characters lives
but also suggest a fundamental problem with their societies. Both playwrights establish the
macroscopic view of society s ills in the microscopic, individual characters of Hedda and Mother
Courage. Both characters have an indomitable magnetism that, on the one hand, allows them to
control others but, on the other, causes them to make desperate choices that reflect a repressive
society.

Though Ibsen depicts Hedda as a cold, unnatural creature who cannot love her husband, her child,
or even her lover Lovborg, she nevertheless remains a victim in life and, by her suicide, in death.
Society holds no place for Hedda other than as a wife or mother, and the implication remains
throughout the play that Hedda, as an intelligent individual, has wasted her intelligence and abilities
on her domestic role. Hedda channels her creative energy into a fruitless, harmful end, and the
coldness of her character matches the idea that anyone opposing the social roles set forth for them
must exist as an unnatural, unfeeling creature. If her life has given her a cage, then her death,
which seems to free Hedda, in actuality only gives yet another destructive manifestation of her
energies. Ibsen implies, by her death, that the only way Hedda finds freedom from an oppressive
system lies in the internalization of her destructive actions, or her suicide.
Though Hedda, in view of this restrictive society, potentially evokes our sympathetic emotions, she
nevertheless makes choices Ibsen carefully delineates in the play that lead to her ultimate
destruction. Perhaps the greatest tragedy underlying both Hedda s character and the play as a
whole remains with Hedda herself, for she ultimately chooses to take what society offers her

3-Acetamidopropane-1 Alcohol Analysis
It is well known that excessive alcohol can produce various side effects to human. However,
giving up drinking is difficult and can bring several symptoms of alcohol withdrawal. To treat this
problem, acamprosate, 3 Acetamidopropane 1 sulfonic acid, is used as a medication with a
common brand name, Campral. Acamprosate is a small moleculethat has a molecular weight about
181.21 g/mol. Its molecular formula is C5H11NO4S and is named as 3 Acetamidopropane 1
sulfonic acid or N acetyl homotaurine. The main function of acamprosate is re balancing the
chemicals in the brain. Before alcoholconsumption, human brain retains a balance of chemicals
called neurotransmitters. When the intake of alcohol is repeated, the brain alters the balance and
turns to adapt to that chemical changes, and finally, this will be lead to tolerance and addiction of
alcohol. By modulating and normalizing the alcohol related... Show more content on

Naturally, the goal is for all to have access to the basic needs; food, health care and happiness,

surrogate may not be available to those less wealthy, but that may be for good reason. Women
who have less income are more likely to not be able to afford the necessities for a child, whereas a
mother who can afford surrogate services is more likely to be able to afford the material aspects
of raising one. The women who are less fortunate income wise, may be that way because they do

The Great Benefits Of Studying History
One of the greatest benefits of studying history is that it allows an opportunity to learn about the
past. History is presented everywhere in numerous forms and historians like John Merriman allow
people to take a look at the past. John Merriman, a professor at Yale University, is the author of A
History of Modern Europe; this textbook consists of history from the Renaissance to present
modern Europe. The text discusses subjects regarding world wars, revolutions, and colonial
completion. Giles Milton, another historian, wrote Nathaniel s Nutmeg; this text is a narrative non
fiction which further elaborates on the colonial competition of the 17th century. These two
historical readings are different; one reading is a textbook and the other is a narrative non fiction.
Different historical texts can operate to foster different ways of thinking about the past. History
presented as narrative non fiction differs from accounts written by academic historians because of
the form of writing, the engagement, and the opportunity of perspective it offers. Firstly, the
difference between these two readings is the form of writing they contain. A textbook provides
factual statements and straightforward information. A narrative non fiction communicates
information or history through a story which includes detailed descriptions. A textbook can contain
precise dates and blunt statements about a given topic. For example in A History of Modern
Europe , Merriman discusses how European

Victor Stoy Gcse
Victor Provost is widely considered one of the premier steel pan jazz artists of the 21st century.
Through appearances at concert halls, clubs, and stages throughout the world, he has been
meticulously developing a reputation as a dazzling soloist, crafting an impressive improvisational
voice and style. Provost possesses a thorough knowledge of Bebop language, with a strong
foundation in Caribbean sensibilities, and is armed with a virtuosic technical ability that allows
him to weave all the elements of music seamlessly in his playing. Provost has two albums to his
credit, including his new project entitled Bright Eyes , which debuted at number five on the iTunes
Top 40 JazzCharts and have received rave reviews from Downbeat Magazine,... Show more content

Generally, the tenor pan is the highest pitched instrument in the steel pan family, with pitches
ranging from D4 to F#6, arranged in the circle of fifths. Provost style of tenor (made by Kyle
Dunleavy) goes down to G3 and has a much richer and warmer tone than its D4 counterpart.
Ranges can be expanded for other instruments in the steel pan family such as the double second
steel pan. The double second, also know as the alto pan is one of the most versatile instruments in
the family of pans. Typically, second pans offer about a two and a half octave range, bolstering
enough register to play both melody, harmony and chords. Double seconds are configured with a
whole tone scale on each side, which means chromatic scales would feature alternating notes.
Normally double seconds range from a F#3 to a C#6, but there are double second instruments that
go down to E3 and yet support the higher register of the C#6. This would open up more choices in
terms of melodic and harmonic contour for a jazz soloist, or any soloist or performer for that

Me Talk Pretty One Day Ethos Pathos Logos
In the essay Me Talk Pretty One Day, David Sedaris talks about his first experiences in France.
He talks about his teacher, and how she degrades every student, but he doesn t understand why.
Sedaris uses various examples of logos, ethos, and pathos, throughout the essay. Logos means an
appeal to logic or reason; ethos means an appeal in one s own character; and pathos means an
appeal to the emotions of one another. Sedaris portrays Logos, Ethos, and Pathos in the essay,
Me Talk Pretty One Day, to achieve a comic effect. Sedaris uses logos by portraying an
unreasonable behavior throughout his essay to achieve an amusing effect. One example of logos
in, Me Talk Pretty One Day, is when Sedaris talks about spending time with his French teacher
and how it would be like the presence of a wild animal, something completely unpredictable.
Statements like the following prove Sedaris as a humorous guy because he compares his teacher to
a wild animal. It paints a picture in the readers head of a wild lion trying to communicate with

In the essay he achieves a comic effect due to the appeal of Ethos. Throughout the essay, Me Talk
Pretty One Day, some would think Sedaris would not learn French with the constant criticism of
his teacher, but towards the end he had a breakthrough and understood everything his teacher said.
He ends up accomplishing his goals because he was determined and had a hard work ethic. Sedaris
tries to explain through his experiences that sometimes when learning a new language it is
important to have to learn in different ways rather than the traditional ways. He had to think outside
of the box in order to fully

Retread Rubber Market Analysis
RETREAD RUBBER MARKET ANALYSIS
Introduction
1. In the manufacture of a new tyre, about 75% of the manufacturing cost is incurred in Tyre
Casing and remaining 25% in the Tread (The portion of the tyre which meets the road
surface).Hence, by applying a new Tread over the body of the worn out tyre, a fresh lease of life is
given to the tyre, at a cost which is less than 30% of the price of a new tyre. This process is termed
as Tyre retreading and the materials used for process are known as Retread Materials.
2. With an estimated turnover of Rs. 2,700 Crore, the Indian tyre retreading industry at present is a
fraction of the overall tyre industry (with a turnover of about Rs. 37000 Crore) and is largely
focused on commercial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
6. Buffing equipment also made tremendous advances. Up until this time, buffing was done either
by using a hand held rasp and rotating the tire a section at a time or by using a rasp wheel on a
pedestal and placing the tirearound the worker s waist. 7. In 1934 and 1935, 35 major tire
companies entered the retreading industry in the world. Federal and state governments of Unite
States experimented with retreads on trucks and official cars while private truck and bus fleets as
well as individual motorists purchased them. By the end of the decade retreads accounted for 5
percent of the replacement passenger tire market and 20 percent of the replacement truck tire market
8. Synthetic rubber was invented to replace natural rubber and was used domestically in retread
tread stock. Between 1942 and 1944 the retreading industry expanded 500 percent. Retreads met
virtually all civilian passenger tire needs, since sales of new tires and tubes were strictly rationed
during world war II.
9. The armed forces in US relied greatly on retreading and repairing, sponsored research and
published numerous guidelines for proper repair and retread procedures. Unfortunately, the first
synthetic rubber used during war time had poor adhesion qualities that resulted in a large
percentage of tread separations. Memories of these retread failures still haunt the

Strength And Conditioning Program Essay
I am about to walk across the stage of graduation at the University of Tennessee. Thoughts are
racing through my head, as I am getting closer to hearing my name being called. These three and
one half years went by so fast. I cannot believe I m getting my bachelor s degree. I am going to
miss the tennis teams so much. I am going to miss the strength conditioning staff here at
Tennessee immensely. As these thoughts raced through my head, I was the next person in line to
walk across the stage. A voice in head told me, You ve set a vision, a long term goal for yourself.
You ve told yourself everyday you are going to obtain that goal, and this is just the beginning. As I

performing individual stretches on players before matches/games, and improving the athlete not
only physically, but also psychologically through enhancing confidence and emotion toward their
respective sport. My passion for the field of sports is beyond measure. I enjoy what I do everyday
and strive to not only be a better strength conditioning professional, but I strive to be a better human

White Camellias In To Kill A Mockingbird Essay
Harper Lee, in her 1960 novel To Kill a Mockingbird, uses white camellias as a symbol to display
the aspects of innocence. The white color of the camellias often goes with simplicity, hope, and
innocence. The first time Lee uses the symbol of the camellias is to demonstrate the destroyal of
innocence when Jem destroys the camellias. Jem is enraged that Mrs. Dubose insulted his mother,
he did not begin to calm down until he had cut the tops off every camellia bush Mrs. Dubose
owned (Lee 103). Crushing the flowers, symbolizes the many ways that those aspects can be
destroyed through rash and hasty decisions. This quote exhibits that when Mrs.Dubose insultes Jem

The flowers indicate that innocence is still in Jem and Scout because they believe Tom is being
treated inhumanely and can see the wrongdoing of the townspeople. They are also staying
strong in their mindset even after people chastise them for their views. White, is often associated
with life after death or rebirth. Lee is showing that the spirit of Mrs. Dubose is still alive in these
flowers and she is showing the children to advocate for what is right. The johnson grass and
weed stand for the naive majority. Because the camellias grow ahead of them, it exposes that
good is always coexisting with evil, it is just up to the townspeople to figure it out. Finally, Lee
used the symbol of the camellias to uncover that innocence can be preserved when Jem threw the
candy box in the fire, but left the camellia untouched. After Mrs. Dubose s death, Jem picked up
the candy box and threw it into the fire. He picked up the camellia, and when I went to bed I saw
him fingering the petals, (112). The action of throwing the candy box into the fire is telling the
readers that Jem is growing up and can see the effects of death or more mature topics. Normally,
candy is for young children and since it is being burned that is displaying that Jem is over his
youth. On the other hand, he keeps the camellia. Since he keeps the camellia that is implying to the
readers that although he is going past his youth, Jem wants to

(2) The individual must be given an opportunity to present their side of the story to a decision making authority. (3) Finally the right to appeal with the outcome if the individual is not fully satisfied. Individuals are protected against the power of the law and land by Due Process. Substantive Due Process is aimed at protecting individuals against majoritarian policy enactments, such as laws that are too broad or too vague and infringe on our fundamental rights. The Conversation Between Men And Women In the article Talk in the Intimate Relationship: His and Hers by Deborah Tannen, you will begin to see and discover the differences in conversation between men and women. Discussed throughout this paper are the importance of metamessages, an overview of Tannen s article, whether Tannen is fair in her article toward both men and women and whether I agree with Tannen s article as well as experiences of my peer s and myself. Part 1: Metamessages Deborah Tannen defines metamessages as a way you want to be understood without saying what you mean explicitly in words and you must convey meaning somewhere else in how words are spoken. Tannen points out that it stands to reason that women are often more attuned than men to the metamessages of talk. She makes a point as to how significant metamessages are. She also explains that metamessages are a form of indirectness and that women try to reach agreement through negotiation, which is also a women s way of displaying solidarity or power. Tannen gives an example of a wedding anniversary where the women wanted to have the cake served that night because they were thinking of the metamessage; serving a special cake frames an occasion as a celebration. The men suggested it was a good idea to save the cake for the next day, focusing on the message that the cake is just food. Tannen says that women are more used to metamessages because unlike men, women pay more attention to involvement and through metamessages, relationships between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Behn challenges the traditional gender roles accepted by the British society during the 17th century; that men are always in a position of power, by making Cloris, her female character dominant over the male character Lysander and giving her the authority. Behn further challenges the position of men in being the dominant genderin the sexual sphere and discusses masculine identity and how it is measured by the ability of men to successfully perform and satisfy women s sexual desires, and how women take charge and be in control when men s perform poorly. In most states, employers are not mandated to offer health insurance to their employees; therefore, some employers, due to economic constraints, do not offer it. Gates text is centred around the kitchen , a word with a double meaning, the kitchen is the basis for the whole text where pride is centred and hair conditioning takes place. Gates uses elements of writing such as textual form, figurative language, idiom and tone to establish construct the identities of the African American society through the narrator s eyes. In this academic essay, I will be giving examples for these elements of writing and how Gates has used them to shed different lights on the narrator s story, letting the reader experience increasingly of the African American society. Textual form is an important part of this text, Gates uses first person narration to let the reader experience the African American culture from his own eyes. At first, we are introduced to the kitchen at first, we are unaware of what the relation is to hair, in this quote the narrator defines just this But the word has another meaning, and the kitchen I m speaking of now is the very kinky bit of hair at the back of the head, where the neck meets the shirt collar. If there ever was one part of our African past that resisted assimilation it was the kitchen. No matter how hot the iron, no matter how powerful the chemical, no matter how stringent the mashed potatoes and lye formula of a man s process neither God nor woman nor Sammy Davis could straighten the kitchen. The kitchen was permanent irredeemable invincible kink , (42). This quote shows a lot about the context of the African American society, with a sense of pride in their heritage and who they are although they may want straightened white hair they don t want to be white. Another aspect of textual form Gates uses is thematical structure, shown especially through the theme pride. The narrator shows immense pride for his mother right from the beginning of the text, this quote is him expressing how he finds his mothers work unbelievable showing great honour to her every scored kink could be transformed through grease and fire into a magnificent head of wavy hair was a miracle to me still is . Furthermore, in addition to the trained personnel, the building infrastructure must also be included in the feasibility of administrative capcity. Unlike the staffing for the DRC, the staffing required for the continuation of housing offenders in the RHRJ until an additional facility is built, is heavily reliant on the number of offenders in jail at a given time. As seen in figure 1 in the appendix, there are several staffing needs to be met. Given the projected growth in the jail population, the number of personnel required to provide services and programs is not adequate; it is especially not supportive of future expansion of programs and services for the community (Moseley Architects, 2014). Cost Several cost components factor into the traditional incarceration model. The figure that is commonly discussed within the correctional system is the per day incarceration cost. It represents the amount of funding necessary to house one inmate for one day at the RHRJ facility. According to Captain Shortell, the per day incarceration cost for 2013 was $73.35, and there was a slight reduction for 2014 down to $72.33. These figures will be used in subsequent calculations to compare costs of the Day Reporting Center to the traditional incarceration option. • 17. Communistic Ideology In George Orwell s Animal Farm Communistic Ideology in Animal Farm At fifty everyone has the face he deserves (Orwell). With these being his last words, I believe Orwell was trying to explain that you make who you will become, and with this there is a point of no return. In relation to communism this point is communistic rule. This dictatorship can often be expressed differently depending on the advocate s ideas, feelings, and views on social status. Communism, in general, was a prominent theme in the book Animal Farm. George Orwell gives Old Major characteristics not unlike some of the most largely influential communists. The idea of communism often involves a strong sense of individualism and selfishness (Shaoqi). In Animal Farm we see this in the quote All animals are equal but some more than others (Orwell 92). These ethics are strongly conveyed by Karl Marx. Karl Marx can be compared to Old Major through their mutual ideas of unity and equality. Marx believed in a state of social equality. [Marx] describes about his concept of a classless society... [he imagines communism] is the state of equality among people (www.bachelorandmaster.com). Major expresses this same idea through a similar experience. Last night... [Beasts of England] came back to me in my dream (Orwell 9). They go on to sing Beasts of England united as one, paralleling Marx s idea of equality. Vladimir Lenin, another influential communist, can also be compared to Old Major. Both of them were advocates for socialism and communism but never got to actually see them go through. Let the socialist snivellers croak, let the bourgeoisie rage and fume, but only people who shut their eyes so as not to see, and stuff their ears so as not to hear, can fail to notice that all over the world the birth pangs of the old, capitalist society, which is pregnant with socialism, have begun (Lenin). He never truly meant for it to progress to a form of extreme communism, just as Old Major hadn t either. • 18. Dystopian Differences In The Hunger Games And The Hunger... Dystopian films and books have become popular over the past few years. These tend to reflect the way in which society could possibly soon turn if expecting extremes. Dystopian literature and media also tend to have utopian elements as well. While the societies in these works are strict and controlling, they do offer something that our society could possibly benefit from. Divergent has this element. The population is broken up into five factions that represent the different types of people in society and separate those who would fight easily due to their personal morals. The Hunger Games on the other hand (when modern society crumbled) they punished their citizens for fighting the government. While yes there was a chance for riches in the Hunger Games, it took risking your life to get it. In addition, if one did win the Hunger Games they would have an extremely easy life due to riches and a free luxury house. Divergent does not have this part, as its utopian aspect is the fact different ideals are separated from each other. Utopian literature is a reflectionthat is a perceived direction society may go. In these stories, mirrorsare a device used to symbolically state the universe of the filmis a reflection not a reality. The Hunger Games series is based of the book trilogy of the same name. The bombing of Dresden took place during the second world war between February 13 and 15, 1945. Prior to this time Germany had held a practice of bombing British cities to create chaos and to break the British Moral in hopes of forcing the British to surrender. This approach had not been successful up until this point. Both the allied and axis powers soon took up the bombing of industrial cities. The main goal of these bombings was for the most part to disrupt communication, and production of materials necessary for the war. The secondary objective was to disrupt moral of the people hoping that they would push back against the government pressuring them into surrendering. Dresden was a major cultural and geographical epicenter. During this time Dresden was a major center for refugees fleeing the on pushing Soviet Union. The bombing of Dresden helped to prove to the Soviet Union that the rest of the allied powers would support them with air support. However, the controversy of Dresden arises from the fact that the allied powers claimed Dresden was a major industrial center with major production centers for war goods. However, Germany claims that Dresden had no industry whatsoever. The issue arises that there is no definitive proof either way. The issue that arises from this is the claim that the allied powers bombed Dresden for the sole purpose of murder of citizens for morale reasons. In 1945 Dresden had become a major center for refugees fleeing from the Russian army. Barnett explores the trend of voyeurism m the works of Jonathan Swift. She speaks broadly about the use of this technique in his work and concentrates on a few poems including The Lady s Dressing Room. Barnett believes that Swift s poetry tends to be more voyeuristic than it is obsessed with excrement and decay. To support this, she maintains that each poem centers around the experience of seeing the obscenity (i.e. The Lady s Dressing Room revolves around Strephon s response to Celia s dirt and dung) rather than the obscenity. Conveniently, there is a primary voyeur who can absorb the opprobrium attached to the forbidden looking, leaving us guiltlessly looking at words. 18 Barnett makes the distinction between active and passive voyeurism. Swift acts as the active voyeur insofar that he had to actually wander around a lady s dressing room or watch a lady strip in order to be able to write his poems. The reader assumes the role of the passive voyeur, the one who simply listens to or reads the exploits of the active voyeur. However, Barnett maintains, the passive voyeur stills looks or reads. By choosing to read, [continuing to read,] and thus recreate the voyeuristic experience, we become implicated, seeing what the poem sees. (18)) Even though the reader is twice removed from the active voyeur in The Lady s Dressing Room, (Strephon tells the tale to the narrator who tells the tale to the reader) he or she still becomes a voyeur because he or she continues to read just as the narrator continues his tale despite his protests to the contrary. Joseph Haydn s Lifelong Involvement With The String Quartet Joseph Haydn (1732 1809) s lifelong involvement with the string quartet began in the 1750s with a series of works that proved to be among the most auspicious fruits of his early maturity. Haydn had enjoyed success as a singer at the cathedral and at court until his eighteenth year, but from that time on he was obliged to fend for himself as a freelance teacher and musician. As the occasion arose Haydn tried his hand in a variety of musical genres, composing sacred works, and pieces of instrumental music. He attracted the attention of music loving patrons. For several years before he served as music director to Count Karl Joseph Franz Morzin (1717 83), in 1757 or 58, Haydn worked for the family of Baron Carl Joseph FГјrnberg (ca.1727 67),... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although this oeuvre mirrors many of the stylistic concerns of the period and of Haydn s music overall, the features that most distinguish the quartets are their use of conversational textures and devices, their persistent elevation and seriousness, which is intensified rather than undercut by their pervasive wit, and their strikingly tactile and performative use of the medium. On the basis of this achievement, it is proper to regard Haydn as the creator of a new genre. The account transmitted by Haydn s friend and biographer Georg August Griesinger (1769 1845) makes no reference to precedents. Although it appears that at least two contemporaries wrote comparable works for four string parts at around the same time, Haydn s works nonetheless stand out by virtue of their technical polish, structural control, and sure grasp of the medium s possibilities. Haydn s quartets were so influential not only because they are great works in a genre whose time had evidently come, but also because they were so immediately and widely published. In the summer of 1795, Haydn returned to Vienna from the second visit to England. And in the following year, he began work on the monumental compositions for vocal soloists, chorus, and orchestra that dominated the final stage of his career: the two late oratorios, The Creation (1796 98) and The Seasons (1799 1801), and the large scale concerted ... Also by arrested the kid that have drugon them it will teaches them a lesson to not do drug and not to bring them to school. Also you can find there deal and send him to jail for traffic . Immanuel Kant graced this earth from 1724 to 1804. During his eighty year life time, he formulated many interesting ideas regarding ethical conduct and motivation. Kant is strictly a non consequentialist philosopher, which means that he believes that a person s choices should have nothing to do with the desired outcome, but instead mankind simply goes about doing good because it is morally correct. Kant theorizes that moral reasoning is not based on factual knowledge and that reason by itself can reveal the basic principles of morality. Ideas contemplated and developed and theorized by... Regardless of goals or desired outcome, the categorical imperative commands unconditionally. (Shaw, 67) Kant developed another idea which exemplifies that of the categorical imperative. The principle of universal acceptability states that as rational, moral beings, individuals are bound by logic and its demands. Because logic is consistent, individuals all live by the same moral law. in order to determine whether a rule is a moral law, we can thus ask if the rule commands would be acceptable to all rational beings acting rationally. (Shaw, 67) Kant s view of universal acceptability appears to be intertwined with echoes of the golden rule. Another famous theory developed by Kant further explaining the categorical imperative is the idea of humanity as an end and never merely as a means. Individuals should never treat someone a special way in an effort to get gain. In other words, Kant developed the theory we hear in nursery school of, treat others as you would like to be treated. Logically, this theory states that rational beings recognize their worth and the worth of others. As a rational thinker, one would not want to be used as a means to an end. Immanuel Kant s formalism theory poses many compelling and interesting points of view. On the surface, the categorical imperative seems to be a great measuring device ... Today, we have looming towers, hospitals, structure, and government. There are no viral diseases like those of the dark ages but, the ideas of chivalry could still help the world today. Although chivalryhas codes for warfare, it encourages the prevention of crime and warfare. If people abide by this and don t commit crime then the rising crime rates will decrease and people will have better lives. Since 2015 there was a 4.1% increase in the crime rate. This number could be decreasing rather than increasing if people followed the codes of chivalry. Abiding by chivalry could decrease tension between countries because it encouraged honor and no desire for war. • 28. The And Of The Renaissance When describing Giuseppe Arcimboldo s artwork, scholars consistently use one term: bizarre. Indeed, among his most famous paintings are that which feature human faces composed out of food, animals, and household objects. Modern viewers have viewed these composite paintings amusingly. However, there is more depth and context to Arcimboldo s art than simply to serve as forms of entertainment. Research suggests Arcimboldo masked social critiques and political messages in his paintings, which were reflective of the ongoing intellectual currents of the Renaissance. As best put by Thomas DaCosta Kaufmann, Arcimboldo s paintings can be seen not as bizarre fancies, but as the expression of the complicated intellectual world of the late sixteenth century (Elhard 117). Therefore, this paper will examine Arcimboldo s background as an artist, analyses of his composite paintings, and the relationship his artwork had to Renaissance scholarship. Arcimboldo was an Italian artist who worked in the courts of emperors Ferdinand I, Maximilian II, and Rudolf IIduring the sixteenth century, the period of the Renaissance. During his employment, Arcimboldo produced and designed tapestries, stained glass windows, festival staging, and costumes. However, he is most famous for his avant garde paintings of composite heads. These paintings were comprised of objects fruit, vegetables, books, etc. associated with the allegorical meanings of the subjects (Elhard 116). The inspiration behind these ... Henrik Ibsen s Hedda Gabler and Bertolt Brecht s Mother Courage and Her Children Henrik Ibsen s Hedda Gabler and Bertolt Brecht s Mother Courage and Her Children present two strongly defined female heroines whose actions not only adversely affect the other characters lives but also suggest a fundamental problem with their societies. Both playwrights establish the macroscopic view of society s ills in the microscopic, individual characters of Hedda and Mother Courage. Both characters have an indomitable magnetism that, on the one hand, allows them to control others but, on the other, causes them to make desperate choices that reflect a repressive society. Though Ibsen depicts Hedda as a cold, unnatural creature who cannot love her husband, her child, or even her lover Lovborg, she nevertheless remains a victim in life and, by her suicide, in death. Society holds no place for Hedda other than as a wife or mother, and the implication remains throughout the play that Hedda, as an intelligent individual, has wasted her intelligence and abilities on her domestic role. Hedda channels her creative energy into a fruitless, harmful end, and the coldness of her character matches the idea that anyone opposing the social roles set forth for them must exist as an unnatural, unfeeling creature. If her life has given her a cage, then her death, which seems to free Hedda, in actuality only gives yet another destructive manifestation of her energies. Ibsen implies, by her death, that the only way Hedda finds freedom from an oppressive system lies in the internalization of her destructive actions, or her suicide. Though Hedda, in view of this restrictive society, potentially evokes our sympathetic emotions, she nevertheless makes choices Ibsen carefully delineates in the play that lead to her ultimate destruction. Perhaps the greatest tragedy underlying both Hedda s character and the play as a whole remains with Hedda herself, for she ultimately chooses to take what society offers her Tesman and the life of a social wife. History is presented everywhere in numerous forms and historians like John Merriman allow people to take a look at the past. John Merriman, a professor at Yale University, is the author of A History of Modern Europe; this textbook consists of history from the Renaissance to present modern Europe. The text discusses subjects regarding world wars, revolutions, and colonial completion. Giles Milton, another historian, wrote Nathaniel s Nutmeg; this text is a narrative non fiction which further elaborates on the colonial competition of the 17th century. These two historical readings are different; one reading is a textbook and the other is a narrative non fiction. Different historical texts can operate to foster different ways of thinking about the past. History presented as narrative non fiction differs from accounts written by academic historians because of the form of writing, the engagement, and the opportunity of perspective it offers. Firstly, the difference between these two readings is the form of writing they contain. A textbook provides factual statements and straightforward information. A narrative non fiction communicates information or history through a story which includes detailed descriptions. A textbook can contain precise dates and blunt statements about a given topic.
