Social Support System
Drug Addiction: Importance of a Support System
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, between 40 to 60 percent of patients relapse.
However, substance abuse addiction is a lifelong condition that can be successfully managed through
treatment providers. One of the keys to success with addiction recovery is a social support system.
http://www.drugabuse.gov/publications/principles drug addiction treatment research based guide third
edition/frequently asked questions/how effective drug addiction treatment Why Patients Drop Out
There are different reasons why patients drop out of treatment. For example, patients may be
unprepared to change, poorly motivated or inadequately committed to recovery. Certain patients also
struggle with limited resources, such as finances, housing or transportation. However, according to a
recent National Institute of Health report, the reasons for dropping out of treatment are not typically
related to the program, but are in fact personal. Surveyed clients cited lack of social support and
relationship with treatment staff as the primary reasons for dropping out of treatment. Specifically,
clients stated that treatment success was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chronic substance abuse results in harmful changes to a person s body and biochemistry makeup. As a
result, drug addicts need constant social support in order to maintain sobriety. A safe and stable home
environment is critical for drug addicts to properly recover. One of the biggest problems that people in
outpatient treatment experience is being exposed to drugs and temptations at home. In addition to this,
unsupportive individuals, who are opposed to treatment, may pressure or persuade addicts to abandon
treatment. The more positive support a patient receives, the more likely they are to successfully
recover. This includes social, physical, emotional and resource

Humming Bird Benefits
Although people enjoy viewing wildlife and hunting animals for food and fur, conflicts arise because
wild animals kill livestock, cause vehicle collisions, and damage crops. On another note, relationships
with other organism can be more than just seeing the humming bird as an eye catching small bird. It is
a benefit for the long tubed flowers because the Buff Bellied hummingbird has its long beak and small
body to remove the nectar which allows the survival of the long tubed flower. Experiments indicated
that flowers having recurved spurs deposit significantly more pollen grains on hummingbird visitors
than flowers having perpendicular spurs, apparently as a result of greater contact between the
androecium of curve spurred flowers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Praying Mantis have their own benefits within a garden as do hummingbirds, but the praying mantis
does not carry a relationship with the hummingbirds. The praying mantis waits on flowers and on
feeders to capture them. Humming birds are not resistant to bees/wasp venom. They can out maneuver
a hummingbird with just one sting and can be fatal. Hawks prey on hummingbirds due to their size
advantage. Hummingbirds are typically 3 4 grams of size and can provide nutrients to large birds.
Although their size is not a great advantage they still stand tall to a hawk to defend their habitat and
offspring. Their strong manner against their huge odds is one of the reasons that hummingbirds arouse
our interest. Hummingbirds have a symbiotic relationship with plants. They have a mutualistic
relationship because they both benefit from it. The hummingbird gets nectar from flowers which also
helps the flower because it is being pollinated. Many flowers have a tube like shape which makes it
hard for bees to get nectar from them. This benefits the hummingbird because they will have a reliable

Eck Scottish Accent Summary
Eck lives in Glasgow so he would have a very broad Scottish accent that I would need to work on. As
well as the Scottish accent, I would also need to work on the Scottish language that the speech is
written in as well. The speech consists of multiple very short sentences that are all sequentially
formed. I would need make these run smoothly and not be jumpy at all. Because of the speed of the
Scottish accent, I would need to focus on Articulation to avoid words not being properly annunciated.
The speech is about Eck s plans for the day I would need to convey the fact he is planning what to do
rather than actually doing them at that time. I would need to work on Intonation during the speech to
avoid sounding monotonous when listing Eck s

IS, LM model and explanations(in the form of an essay).
Essay topic1.
Introduction:
During the years after World War II, the development of the IS LM model took several directions.
Probably, the most prominent ideas on that theory were expressed in the work of John Hicks called
Mr. Keynes and the Classics . The model expressed in the article was largely based on the works of
John Maynard Keynes and became a widely accepted as the alternative framework to standard
Keynesian analysis. The IS LM model is a way of modelling equilibrium in the economy by looking
at equilibrium in the goods and services markets (the IS curve) and equilibrium in the money markets
(LM curve). Where both these markets are in equilibrium will be the equilibrium level of income. The
IS LM model looks at income against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the amount of income from Y`1 to Y1 will be anattainable because of outcrowding of the
private sector by the public sector investment (shaded area).
The degree of crowding out depends on severeal factors. One of them is the extent of multiplier effect.
Multiplier effect occurs when increase in investment or any other autonomous expenditure leads to
even greater increase in income. For example, it may become widely believed that the MPC
(Monetary Policy Committee) is going to reduce the rate of interest. In that case, number of leackages
in the economy in the form of savings is likely to decline and consumption to increase. This will result
in the larger propensity to consume for every marginal unit of income. Increase in consumption should
lead to increase in investment and more flatter IS curve (see figure 3), which will mean greater degree
of crowding out.

There are other factors influencing the extent of crowding out effect. Effectivness of fiscal policy also
depends on the elasticities of IS and LM schedules. If investment is relatively sensetive to the changes
in the rate of interest, than for any change in interest rate there will relatively big change in investment
and correspondingly equilibrium rate of output. In that case the IS curve will be relatively interest
elastic and flatter. If the IS curve is

My Reflection August 28, 2017, the first day of my fresh and scary journey. My first day as a
Colorado Christian University student, English composition online is my first class. Part of me is
ready; part of me is ready to throw in the towel. I hadn t even had a chance to turn a paper in, and the
first assignment, a 5 paragraph essay had me thinking you re a crazy person for going back to school,
it s been 11 years since you had to write a paper. What are you thinking? I told myself its 5 weeks
(later I would realize actually 6) you can make it 5 weeks! Although I knew writing wouldn t be my
easiest subject, I knew I had to try my hardest. This class was condensed and hard, but effective and
informative; I ve learned so much, felt all sorts of emotions and know I can apply what I ve learned in
classes to come. When I reflect back on this class, I m grateful for what I ve learned. I can t imagine
starting the online college experience with a different class. I imagine what that would have been like,
and I can t help but think, it would have been rough and I wouldn t have some of the basic resources
needed. APA formatting, I didn t have the slightest idea what that meant. Learning the basics on APA
will ensure I have a great skill moving forward to write my papers during college. Citing properly,
although I m still working on this, I would have been even further behind. If I didn t have this as my

Vouchers Should Not Be Allowed In Schools Essay
The idea of vouchers being given to families to pay the cost of a private education has generated much
debate within the United States for years. The Swedish experience with vouchers might offer
invaluable insights into the efficacy of school vouchers. In the early 1990s, Sweden introduced
vouchers into their educational system. According to a slate.com article titled Sweden s School Choice
Disaster written by Ray Fisman, the system was put in place by a center right (by Swedish standards)
government, inspired by the ideas of the godfather of free market economics, Milton Friedman. In
1955, Friedman wrote an article titled The Role of the Government in Education, in which he
advocated for a system in which governments would issue vouchers to parents that would be
redeemable toward tuition payments at a private school of their choice (Fisman). To be ... Show more

According to the U.S. Department of Education, most of the religious schools found throughout the
country seek to indoctrinate as well as educate. They integrate religion throughout their curriculum
and often require all students to receive religious instruction and attend religious services. Thus, there
is no way to prevent publicly funded vouchers from paying for these institutions religious activities
and education (AUSCS). In other words, a voucher program would force all Americans to pay taxes to
support religion, even if it is not their own religion. This runs counter to the First Amendment s
guarantee of religious liberty because in the United States, there should be a separation between
involuntary religious activities and schooling (AUSCS). Therefore, under the United States
Constitution, all religious activities should be supported with voluntary contributions, thus, voucher
systems should not be allowed in the United States

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Using Ultrasound Over...
Advantages of using ultrasound over conventional methods. Low equipment cost. Easy installation.
No additional emulsifier is required to be added in the process. Production of smaller sized particles
with the help of ultrasound is much easier. The process is environment friendly. There are less chances
of mechanical failure as a stirrer (impeller) is not required. Micro and Nano spheres produced by this
method show a better size distribution. As the temperatures involved in this method is not that high the
drug are safe from being decomposed. There is no need of purification in this method as there is no
residual solvent obtained in this method. It is a cost effective method as compared to other methods.

Summary Of Ordinary Men And Lest Innocent Blood Be Shed
Christopher Browning and Philip Hallie are the authors of Ordinary Men and Lest Innocent Blood Be
Shed respectively. Two extremely interesting books about the World War II and the different behaviors
and reactions of the society during that rough time. On his writing, Browning shows how ordinary
men can change their beliefs and their common sense because of the influence of others. In this book,
soldiers of the WWII were influenced by the government of Hitler. Browning called it atrocity by
policy because the damage caused by soldiers wasn t spontaneous but indeed planned methodically by
the government, they had calculations and plans. In addition, Browning explains how members of the
police battalion (a Nazi paramilitary formation) slowly started enjoying the idea of murder and torture
innocent people. As in combat, the horrors of the initial encounter eventually became routine
(Browning 1992, p. 161). Browning describes the behavior of the policemen as if they didn t have
their own sense of knowing what was right or what was wrong. Perhaps because of legitimate

accountants often use their auditing and investigation skills to assist the court with cases. Forensic
accountants deal with white collar crimes such as securities fraud, embezzlement and bankruptcies. A
lot of the times forensic accountants will be working on cases like the Ponzi scheme Bernie Madoff

ANALYSIS OF A RECENT SERVICE EXPERIENCE
A recent service experience Recently, I had a very awful experience with Uber service which makes
me realize the difficulty of perfect service. I tried to call an Uber car, two month ago, to the Miami
international airport. It took about 30 minutes before the driver finally showed up and she claimed that
my apartment was very hard to locate. Meanwhile, I was aware that she barely speaks English. She
told me she just came from Cuba one month ago and only speaks Spanish but I merely speak.
According to recent study found that there are 66.37% of Miami Dade s residents speak Spanish,
while those who only speak English make up 28.07% (MLA, 2010). Then, she set up navigation bring
me to the destination. However, she missed the first exit of highway without noticed and refused my

kept following the navigator, eventually stopped at a cargo warehouse and told me she got lost. I had
no choice but to use my GPS got us arrived at the airport finally. Moreover, I was charged for those

The Late 19th Century Hypersexualization Of Salome, By...
The main focus of this article was on the depiction of the figure Salome, and the meanings behind
these interpretations. Lawrence Kramer discusses this topic on two fronts: the late 19th century
hypersexualizing of Salome and a more critical approach that stresses the study of the music itself.
The author presents the works of many late 19th century artists and draws upon criticism/discussion of
more modern scholars to help make his point. He concludes that though it would be easy to analysis
Salome, especially in the late 19th century, as the Freudian trend towards sexualizing everything, it
also provides a deeper view of the cultural underpinnings that create some of these dated and
misogynistic notions/ideas.
The author begins by presenting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As was mentioned in class, Kramer highlights to artistic and cultural depictions of Salome not only as
a product of their time, but as objects with social agency, object that created the zeitgeist of their time.
This demonstrates a real life example of Frith s idea that identity is created through music, or in this
case that arts. In this discussion around a female figure, the artists who present their interpretations of
her not only contribute to the artistic realm, but inform and reinforce social dynamics. The musical
examples that the author presents in his discussion serve as bridge between the literary criticism their
musical embodiment. It also highlights the manner in which issues surrounding gender were discussed
which, as seen with previous examples (Crawford and Copland), shares much of the same language
when addressing issues around race and ethnicity. Also, when looking at the dichotomies inherent in
the representations of John and Salome (Christian v.s. Hebrew, tonal v.s. atonal, male v.s. female), the
emerging sentiment is that of us v.s. them, which serves as the basis for many misunderstandings or
problems around race and ethnicity. This then ties into the idea of politics in music, such that a
composer or group of people are not only creating and accepting a certain identity, the very act of
doing so can be against mainstream or country currents. It could be understood as revolutionary acts.

My Language Are The Limits Of My World
It is argued that the human species are a class of animal. However, the distinctive characteristic that
makes us unique, which makes humans different from all other species, is our ability to use complex
language. Language is thought of as multi sensory, containing not only the verbal and writing, but also
touch, smell, sound, and body elements. As humans are very social beings, people have the natural
instinct to connect and communicate with others, to share our emotions and ideas, and as a result,
learning a language becomes an instinct for each individual. Language is the device used for
communication, Ludwig Wittgenstein, an Austrian philosopher on language, said, The limits of my

been more or less thrown away. The idea itself originated with the traditional notion that all migrations
came from Asia. Throughout the past few decades the trend of opinion has swayed in favor of Eastern

birthplace was someplace close to Scandinavia and the neighboring parts of northern and central

This idea is based on a study conducted of the Indo European vocabulary. If specific vocabulary terms

The Gospel Of Luke
All of the Gospels have a special and important message within them. It is the Gospel of Luke that
today s Christians need the most, because of the powerful message that it provides. It seems as though
today s Christians have lost the understanding that God loves everyone and that Jesus came for
everyone. In the Gospel of Luke, the main focus of it is that Jesus is for everyone. This can be seen in
many different aspects of the Gospel. Starting when Jesus was born in the barn, to His resurrection, as
well as when it was stated that He is the Son of Man (Luke 24:7). Luke was written by a Gentile
Christian for a group of Gentile Christians. Just by these points it can be seen that Jesus is for

It is known that Jesus was from the Middle East, and yet He is still pictured as being Caucasian which
could be a reason for this issue. A way that this issue could be attempted to be settled is once again,
through the Gospel of Luke. In Luke, it talks about Jesus s genealogy and this is used to show that
once again, that Jesus is for everyone. Jesus s genealogy starts with himself, goes through to the son of
Joseph, then son of David, son of Abraham, and then ends with the first man of the world which is
Adam (Luke 3:23 38). The author of Luke does this to help show the readers that Jesus is a relative of
many different men of many different backgrounds themselves, but in the end that are all a dependent
on the same man who started off the human race. Now if when modern Christians read this they could
understand more upon this. Looking at the current situation, the reader could compare two different
people, let s say one is Caucasian and the other is African American, it would take some time, but it is
very possible that there would be a cross between the two people somewhere in their own genealogy.
So comparing this situation with the Gospel of Luke, can show that we are all a descendant of Adam
in the long run. Even though the color of one s skin is going to be a constant

Martin Luther And The Protestant Reformation
In the early days of November 10, 1483, Martin Luther was born in Eisleben, Saxony, in modern
southeast Germany and it was an extremely tense world. But on the other hand great changes were
waiting around the corner, and Luther too, would take a part in these changes.
On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther, angry with Pope Leo X s new round of indulgences to help build
St. Peter s Basilica, nailed a sheet of paper with his 95 Theses on the University of Wittenberg s
chapel door. Martin Luther was a German monk who began the Protestant Reformation in the 16th
century, becoming one of the most influential and controversial figures in Christian history. Luther
called into question some of the basic tenets of Roman Catholicism, and his followers soon split from
the Roman Catholic Church to begin the Protestant tradition.
The first few years of monastic life were difficult for Martin Luther, as he did not find the religious
enlightenment he was seeking. A mentor told him to focus his life exclusively on Christ and this
would later provide him with the guidance he sought.
At age 27, Luther was given the opportunity to be a delegate to a Catholic church conference in Rome.
He came away more disillusioned, and very discouraged by the immorality and corruption he
witnessed there among the Catholic priests. Upon his return to Germany, he enrolled in the University
of Wittenberg in an attempt to suppress his spiritual turmoil. He excelled in his studies and received a
doctorate,

Daniel Orozco s Orientation
The short story, Orientation by Daniel Orozco will leave the reader with many questions. Think about
a horror film. Is there always killing or ghosts? Not always. In this short story we are introduced to a
different type of a horror. A horror in the way of control, inhumane thoughts, actions, and, even

The Challenge For E Learning Practitioners
While the phrase a picture is worth a thousand words is often used to emphasize the importance of
visuals, recent research from neuroscience reveals the science behind that saying. However, the
challenge for e learning practitioners arises when they attempt to integrate learning theory into the
design and creation of visuals and video. Although elearning practitioners and instructional designers
are educated in learning theory, what is often overlooked is the design of effective visuals and/or video
that has a basis learning theory.
To that end, there is a difference between the way the brain remembers words and remembers visuals.
The brain has an extraordinary capacity to remember visual information. Memory experiments with
visuals have shown that people can recall seeing hundreds, even thousands, of pictures. Pictures seem
to operate as chunks and while the brain can hold only a few chunks in working memory at a time,
visual images allow the brain to hold and enlarge the scope of those chunks. This is because visual
processes evolved over millions of years, so the brain machinery is highly efficient in storing and
recalling visual information.
Humans are predominantly processors of visual information, where neuroscience has revealed 90% of
what the brain processes is visual information. In Jensen s 2008 book on Brain Based Learning, he
states that 80 90% of information absorbed by the brain is visual in nature. What s more, the brain
processes visual information

The Sayings Of Poor Richard By Benjamin Franklin
One lesson I learned from The sayings of Poor Richard by Ben Franklin was that actions speak louder
than words. Franklin said He that composes himself is wiser than he that composes books. (Franklin)
This analogy is saying I shouldn t criticize how others act, if I don t act the way I should. In the story,
Poor Richard was trying to find the ways to achieve moral perfection. He believed that being able to
compose yourself is way more important than telling others what to do. Composing yourself means to
watch your own actions, and strive to be morally excellent. Somebody s actions shows the kind of
person they are, not what they say. Being all talk can make an individual appear a fool. It s a lot easier
to say something then do something.

The Creation Story Of The Lakota Indians
For the Lakota Indians, stories were passed down through the generations as a way of teaching
lessons. Their creation story places an emphasis on maintaining a balance between man and nature.
This balance was broken for the Indians when, after violating the Dawes Act, a treaty that gave them
full rights to their sacred land, white men pushed them out of their homeland and forced them into a
society that they never wanted to be a part of. In doing this, their culture was greatly diminished, along
with their hope of a better future. Today, the Lakota Indians face poverty and other challenges that all
stem from a time when their rights were violated, peace broken, and stories forgotten. Stories are
central to the Lakota way of life, specifically their story of how the world came to be. The Lakota
Indians believe that the Great Spirit created everything. They say that there was once another world,
but the Great Spirit was upset with those people because they had lost the sacredness of the land, so he
destroyed it and made a new one. To bring water, he sang a song, but by the fourth song, the Earth was
flooded. The flood killed all of the animals except the crow, Kangi, illustrating the necessity of
balance in life. Kangi begged the Great Spirit for a place to rest, so the Great Spirit called forth four
animals that could survive under the water, they were an otter, beaver, loon, and a turtle. The Great
Spirit then asked them to go and retrieve some mud from under the water.

Analysis Of Weldon Kees The Doctor Will Return
Weldon Kees was an American poet who was born on February 24, 1914 and died on July 18, 1955.
He had so much love to write poems along the lines of death. The Doctor Will Return is about a poem
that illustrates what the hospital looks like and what it consists of if a person chose to walk inside for a
treatment or recovery for their diagnosis. Groucho Marx once said, A hospital bed is a parked taxi with
the meter running (Brainyquote.com). In other words what he was trying to say was, the longer a
person is in the hospital, the bigger the bill is going to be no matter how much or how less the doctor s

Essay on Battle of Gen X and Gen Y
The Battle of Gen X and Gen Y
There¡¦s no doubt about it, the newest diversity issue in the workplace is age diversity. Many
organizations have finally figured out how to recruit young talent only to watch them drive down a
collision course with seasoned employees over issues like work ethic, respect for authority, dress code
and every work arrangement imaginable. And they re not sure what to do about it.
With this paper, I decided to take this concept because of the people that I have to work with on a

Generation Y. Just the other day I heard from someone I am working with, ¡§Those god d* amp;#

It is this realism and ability to deal with issues rather than ignore them. Most are decent, pragmatic,
creative, strongly independent, self reliant, and hard working. They have a surprisingly good work
ethic including a strong sense of company loyalty, as long as it s reciprocal and we want to get ahead,
even though we aren t as concerned with the trappings of quot;success quot; as earlier generations
were. However, they are very concerned with financial and emotional security, and hopeful that the
future will be good to us, but shockingly realistic and honest about the struggles that they are going to
face in a rapidly changing world of diminishing resources.
On the downside of the two generations, a lot of the Generation X¡¦ers will butt heads with their
younger counterparts. The old fashioned way of communicating via personal phone is being replaced
with an e mail or cell phone. Technology is ok but Gen Y is proficient and not afraid to use it, and this
kind of attitude demands change where as the Gen X just accepts it. Also, when it comes to employer
loyalty, if the Gen Y doesn¡¦t get their Saturday off they will quit; whereas the Gen X thinks if I do this
it could give me a promotion. The battle lines are clearly drawn in the line of attitude and influences of
the age diversity of this group.

The Importance Of Religion And Politics In Bangladesh
Religion and politics are interdependent from the beginning. Political and religious power are
interconnected. In 1905, the separation between state and religious institutions occurred. But, that
doesn t mean that religion has lost its important in terms of politics. Still, religion plays and important
part in the political system. Religion influence the politics from the core. Religion is a mandatory part
of politics which cannot be replaced (Fox, 2013).
Religion has not only influence over our political aspects but also in our social aspects too. More
accurately, religion has more influence over our social life than political. Religion is an element of
social control. As Karl Marx has said, religion is the opium of mass people (Eggers, 2015). Through
socialization process a human being entangled in the chain of Social control. It is a process which
enlighten a person about the rules, regulations and procedures of the society. It tells an individual his

that no one can break the traditional norms and values of the society. Thus religion preserve the
traditions as they were and control the society (Liska, 1992).

Fear Manifests In Lord Of The Flies
Fear Manifests Fear is the most powerful thing in the universe. It can bring grown men to tears and
tear apart nations. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a rescue plane full of schoolboys crashes
on a deserted island. Without any adults, the children must maintain order, find supplies to survive and
keep hope of being rescued while dealing with their own struggles and suspicions. Throughout their
time on the island, the boys are overcome by fear which shows that in a time of weakness people are
capable of committing inhumane actions. The fear the boys acquire on the island becomes detrimental
to their self worth and their ability to function normally. A thin wail out of the darkness chilled them
and set them grabbing for each other. Then the wairl rose, remote and inearthly, and turned to an
inarticulate gibbering. Percival Wemys Madison of the Vicarage, Harcourt St. Anthony, lying in the
long grass, was living through circumstances in which the incantation of his address was powerless to
help him (94). After all the time the boys spend on the island they lose their sense of who they are. As
kids, they take pride on where they are from and it helps bring them comfort throughout their troubles.
But, as time goes, on they start to forget who they are and it becomes unimportant. The way Percival
feels shows us how it affects them. The kids, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Why Division 1 Athletes Should Be Paid
Abstract
This paper debates whether Division 1 athletes should be paid or not. I explain the situation to the
readers that do not have much background knowledge of the topic. I go on to say that Division 1
players should be paid because they do not have much money to buy necessities. The NCAA does not
allow players to get jobs due to the workload required for their particular sport. The athletes also
cannot sell their items or autographed items for revenue. My next reason athletes should be paid is
because they are the core of the collegiate sports. Without the players, there would be no revenue
period. My next point is that the scholarships are not enough to compensate or the time the athletes put
into their sport. Although the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gary Clark, a Wake Forest basketball player, gives his opinion on the situation:
At a lot of schools, players come from underprivileged families. I know we are getting a scholarship,
but some folks don t have enough cash to get something to eat when he school cafeteria is closed, or
money to buy a used car. . . . I am not saying we should get paid with a full time salary, but a stipend
would be nice. (W. Ford, personal communication, April 28, 2011)
It is true. Many players are from unfortunate situations and being stripped of the rights to work for
necessities to get their college paid for is an unethical burden the NCAA has placed on these young
adults shoulders. At the least, these athletes should be getting a return on the time they put in (H.
Bruinius, personal communication, April 3, 2000)

In 2012, the NCAA generated 10.6 billion dollars in revenue; 5.6 billion due to ticket sells and 433

Surely the NCAA has enough money to provide a stipend all of the 420,000 student athletes. These

millions off of the merchandise. It is only right that the athletes wonder why they bring in millions to

Nursing Shortage Of Maryland And How Does It Effect...
Nursing Shortage in Maryland and How does it Effect Healthcare Renita Scott March 17, 2015 PUAD
751.TW1 Sp15 What is the nursing shortage and why does it exist in Maryland? The History of
Nursing The practice of nursing started in the past around the Middle Ages, where women in primitive
societies where made to take care of the sick whether they wanted to or not. For example, in Ethiopia
among the Zuni tribe, if a baby is born with part of the placenta covering the face, it was taken as a
sign that the baby would be marked as one destined to become a caregiver. (Henly Moss, 2007). In
many societies, nurses were mostly untrained women who helped deliver babies or were wet nurses.
According to The History of Nursing (2013) religious figures like nuns had more training and cared
for the sick. However, by the 13th through the 16th centuries, religious orders felt as if it was their
duty to care for the physical needs of people as well as their spiritual needs and formed sisterhoods to
carry out this mission. In 1645, Jeanne Mance, a nurse from France, established the Hotel Dieu de
Montreal in Canada, the first hospital in North America. By the 18th century, the United States was
beginning to realize the need for organized nursing services. In 1751, Benjamin Franklin and Dr.
Thomas Bond opened Pennsylvania Hospital, the nation s first hospital. It served the poor and
homeless in Philadelphia. When the American Revolutionary War broke

The post WWI political and societal climate produced a steep increase in the number of American
expatriates in Europe. These expatriates were disillusioned by the horrors that they witnessed during

has destroyed his love life, leading him to conclude that The Purple Land portrays an inaccurate
representation of love. Jake has lost all hope for himself, and this mindset proves it. One night, after
looking at himself naked in the mirror, Jake started to cry after getting lost in his thoughts, revealing

The Organisational Process Of Buying A Train Ticket
This essay uses technological determinism to analyse the organisational process of buying a train
ticket. In particular, I will be looking at concepts such as the rate of diffusion, the technological
agency and also the views of hard and soft technological determinism. Smith and Marx (1998:14)
describe technological determinism as the human tendency to create the kind of society that invests
technologies with enough power to drive history . This definition of technological determinism can be
related to the process of buying a train ticket as this essay shows how organizations used technology
to make this process more efficient and as a result, changed the way that society buys train ticket,
which became the norm now. L J (2004:617) believe that technological determinism represent the
belief that the progress of society is driven by technological innovation and this has an inevitable path.
Society will evolve and adapt to these new technological changes. The way that society has changed
their ways of buying train tickets and how they view buying it online is the way forward, can be best
shown by the quote from L J. Buying a train ticket has changed a lot in the last 15 years especially
with the introduction of the World Wide Web which changed the way society works and this essay
focuses specifically on the collection of train tickets after you have bought them and how technology
has enabled us to do that.
There are two forms or two extremes of technological determinism

Julius Caesar Comparison
William Shakespeare Julius Caesar includes the comparison between characters in the same work or
two different ones. How are their differences and similarities important to the work? William
Shakespeare portrays the conspiring of Brutus, Cassius, Casca, Cinna, Trebonius, Ligarius, Decius,
and Metellus to assassinate Caesar in the play Julius Caesar, which parallels the dangers of gaining
power, trusting wholeheartedly, and retaining one s status within society.
Mark Antony is a loyal friend to Caesar he wanted to take revenge from Brutus, Cassius, Casca,
Cinna, Trebonius, Ligarius, Decius, and Metellus because they killed Caesar in Forum (Atchity).
Marcus Brutus is a conspirator against Caesar Brutus is a friend of Caesar too but he is not loyal or
true he is like a normal friend but he got convinced by Cassius to be a conspirator against Caesar
(Atchity). Portia is Brutus s wife and Cassius sister Portia tried to explain Brutus that he was doing a
wrong thing against his friend but Brutus didn t listen and got convinced by Cassius and then Portia
swallowed hot coals and committed suicide (Atchity). Calpurnia is Caesar s wife she saw a dream said
that her husband s statue with a hundred wounds spouting blood. Calpurnia tried to stop his husband

The European Colonization Of Africa
The European colonization of Africa, also known as the Scramble for Africa, Partition of Africa, or
Conquest of Africa, occurred between the 1870s and 1900s, and was the invasion, occupation,
colonization, and annexation of African territory by European powers during a period of New
Imperialism. European control of the continent increased from 10 percent (1870) to 90 percent (1914),
with only three territories, Saguia el Hamra, which was later integrated into Spanish Sahara, Ethiopia
and Liberia remaining independent of Europe s control. There were many reasons for the European
colonization of Africa, including economic and political motives, with the Berlin Conference serving
as a catalyst. Africans resisted the European invasions of their lands, with the two main methods of
opposition were guerilla warfare and direct military engagement. European influence on Africa still
remains today, though these influences are generally negative and hurt Africa s overall development.
The imperatives of capitalist industrialization, including the call for guaranteed sources of raw
materials, especially copper, cotton, rubber, tea, and tin (European consumers had become accustomed
to, and thus depended on these resources), and the search for guaranteed markets and profitable
investment outlets, which territories like the gold and diamond rich Egypt and South Africa provided,
caused the European conquest for Africa. Therefore the primary reason for European colonization in
Africa was

Spirituality In The Ten Principal Virtues Of The Blessed...
One of the ten principal virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary is continual mental prayer. During her life,
the Blessed Mother was constantly in tune with God s will. Every morning she woke up thinking
about God, she thought about Him continually throughout the day, and she went to bed thinking about
Him. She was the new Eve, who possessed the same preternatural gifts that Adam and Eve possessed
before they sinned.
As a reminder, in addition to an immortal soul, God gave our first parents, Adam and Eve, the
preternatural gifts of integrity, bodily immortality, and infused knowledge. The definition of
preternatural is that which is beyond the natural but is not strictly supernatural.
The preternatural gift of integrity (the absence of concupiscence) gave Adam and Eve the natural
ability to control their desires and passions. Although they could be tempted from outside forces, they
could not be tempted from within. The preternatural gift of bodily immortality meant that Adam and
Eve possessed bodies that would never die. The preternatural gift of infused knowledge meant that
they did not have to study, work, or sacrifice to obtain knowledge. They were created with some
knowledge of God and complete knowledge of the secular world.
It was the first sin of Adam and Eve that destroyed the preternatural gifts of integrity, bodily
immortality, and infused knowledge. From then on, every person who has come into existence has
been conceived without the preternatural gifts, except for

Symbols of the Hopi Pottery Essay
Symbols of the Hopi Pottery
When most people look at a piece of pottery the first thing that comes to mind is the significance of
the symbols and the stories behind these symbols. There are some symbols of Hopi pottery that have
stories behind them and some that are symbols of either lost significance or the story is unknown.
Some of the symbols we think of as symbols, are really the potters own design. Most people make the
mistake that symbols and designs are the same thing, but in fact they are very different. Hopi potters,
mostly women, have been instrumental in both preserving and developing traditional symbols and
innovating designs in response to changes in and challenges to their culture.
In the beginning, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The potter does not look at the design or shape of piece of pottery until the complete piece is finished.
Once the pot is finished, the potter looks at it and if there is something wrong with it, such as it is lop
sided or the design is corked, he/she takes it as a learning experience , and will know what not to do
the next time ( Museum Notes 3).
If on the other hand, he/she has not decided on a design he/she may take the pot in his/her hands and
close his/her eyes and imagine a design that would fit the pot which would be attractive on the piece.
A very famous potter, Maria Martinez creates all of her pottery by first closing her eyes with the piece
in her hands and then imagining what would look good on this piece and what will fit perfectly.
Another artist, Carol Duwyenie, states My creations in art revolve around symbolism in the
relationship to life and Hopi Philosophy of the earth. Just like the paths of life change, twist, and turn,
so has my work. I have taken different paths to express my creativity.... (Duwyenie 1). Everyone has
there own way of deciding what to place on their art. As mentioned above, some artists know right
from the start what the design will be , but some do not and some use both strategies depending on the
piece.
There are several strategies to keep the pot flawless. The most common strategy is to border the area
to be designed with several lines to keep it from becoming slated or lopsided. The area is first

Andrew Carnegie A Captain Of Industry
Captains of Industry Captains of Industry were very important in the reconstruction of America after
the Civil War. These people s fortunes impacted the country very positively in its time of need. One of
these Captains is named Andrew Carnegie. Carnegie emigrated from Scotland to Pennsylvania at the
young age of thirteen. After his father failing multiple times to start a handloom business, Carnegie,
like many commoners, worked as a labourer earning only $1.20 a week. Surprisingly, a game of
chequers between his uncle and manager of a local telegraph office is what led Carnegie on the road to
wealth and fortune. Andrew was known as a robber baron, or wartime profiteers who would
manipulate the stocks and bonds. Carnegie became the first

Comparing Bartleby, The Scrivener And The Overcoat
In both Herman Melville s Bartleby, the Scrivener and Nikolai Gogol s The Overcoat, the reader is
given insight about the different workings society has on two copyists. Both, Akaky and Bartleby
make a living off copying papers, and can be considered as the heros of their stories. Though, both of
their mannerisms are out of place and foolish in their given society; the authors display different
settings, character arcs, and motivations to showcase the slow burn psychological and physical effects
society has on the protagonist. Even though Bartleby s passive nature in a capitalist dominant
economy leads him to his death, Akaky stumbling upon materialism in a classist Russia can be
ascertained to have been deadlier than passiveness. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly to Bartleby, in The Overcoat, Akaky Akakievich is a copyist who went about his work
mindlessly. Gogol depicts Akaky as an outlier among his peers, and deemed to be the only clerk who
served his job with love (313). The author portrays Akaky as an aloof fellow, who has no idea about
his surrounding for he is always focused on his writings (Gogol 313). When the Russian s worst
enemy, winter, arrives; his overcoat is too old and broken down to protect him from the cold weather.
His current overcoat is ridiculed and mockingly called a peignoir by his fellow clerks (Gogol 315).
The arc shifts when his tailor, Petrovich, makes him a new overcoat from cheap material that
resembles the ones worn by the rich (Gogol 320). The coat heightens how Akaky viewed himself, and
how his peers view him. However, he is robbed of his coat on the way home from his Chief Assistant
Clerk s party (Gogol 323). In the latter part of his character arc, he valued the search of his overcoat
more than his livelihood. He decides to search for the overcoat with the help of higher officials. After
failed attempts with different people, he tries his luck with the Very Important Person who put the nail
to the coffin in Akaky s life but not his arc(Gogol 324) . After his death Akaky is seen as an apparition
trying to steal the overcoats of others. He tormented other s until he steals the overcoat of the Very
Important person (Gogol

For example, patients may be unprepared to change, poorly motivated or inadequately committed to recovery. Certain patients also struggle with limited resources, such as finances, housing or transportation. However, according to a recent National Institute of Health report, the reasons for dropping out of treatment are not typically related to the program, but are in fact personal. Humming Bird Benefits Although people enjoy viewing wildlife and hunting animals for food and fur, conflicts arise because wild animals kill livestock, cause vehicle collisions, and damage crops. On another note, relationships with other organism can be more than just seeing the humming bird as an eye catching small bird. It is a benefit for the long tubed flowers because the Buff Bellied hummingbird has its long beak and small body to remove the nectar which allows the survival of the long tubed flower. Experiments indicated that flowers having recurved spurs deposit significantly more pollen grains on hummingbird visitors than flowers having perpendicular spurs, apparently as a result of greater contact between the androecium of curve spurred flowers ... Hawks prey on hummingbirds due to their size advantage. Hummingbirds are typically 3 4 grams of size and can provide nutrients to large birds. Although their size is not a great advantage they still stand tall to a hawk to defend their habitat and offspring. Their strong manner against their huge odds is one of the reasons that hummingbirds arouse our interest. Hummingbirds have a symbiotic relationship with plants. They have a mutualistic relationship because they both benefit from it. The hummingbird gets nectar from flowers which also helps the flower because it is being pollinated. Many flowers have a tube like shape which makes it hard for bees to get nectar from them. This benefits the hummingbird because they will have a reliable source of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. IS, LM model and explanations(in the form of an essay). Essay topic1. Introduction: During the years after World War II, the development of the IS LM model took several directions. Probably, the most prominent ideas on that theory were expressed in the work of John Hicks called Mr. Keynes and the Classics . The model expressed in the article was largely based on the works of John Maynard Keynes and became a widely accepted as the alternative framework to standard Keynesian analysis. The IS LM model is a way of modelling equilibrium in the economy by looking at equilibrium in the goods and services markets (the IS curve) and equilibrium in the money markets (LM curve). Therefore, the amount of income from Y`1 to Y1 will be anattainable because of outcrowding of the private sector by the public sector investment (shaded area). The degree of crowding out depends on severeal factors. One of them is the extent of multiplier effect. Multiplier effect occurs when increase in investment or any other autonomous expenditure leads to even greater increase in income. For example, it may become widely believed that the MPC (Monetary Policy Committee) is going to reduce the rate of interest. In that case, number of leackages in the economy in the form of savings is likely to decline and consumption to increase. This will result in the larger propensity to consume for every marginal unit of income. Increase in consumption should lead to increase in investment and more flatter IS curve (see figure 3), which will mean greater degree of crowding out. Figure 3. r LM r` r IS` IS 0

The Swedish experience with vouchers might offer invaluable insights into the efficacy of school vouchers. In the early 1990s, Sweden introduced vouchers into their educational system. According to a slate.com article titled Sweden s School Choice Disaster written by Ray Fisman, the system was put in place by a center right (by Swedish standards) government, inspired by the ideas of the godfather of free market economics, Milton Friedman. In other words, a voucher program would force all Americans to pay taxes to support religion, even if it is not their own religion. This runs counter to the First Amendment s guarantee of religious liberty because in the United States, there should be a separation between involuntary religious activities and schooling (AUSCS). In this book, soldiers of the WWII were influenced by the government of Hitler. Browning called it atrocity by policy because the damage caused by soldiers wasn t spontaneous but indeed planned methodically by the government, they had calculations and plans. In addition, Browning explains how members of the police battalion (a Nazi paramilitary formation) slowly started enjoying the idea of murder and torture innocent people. Lawrence Kramer discusses this topic on two fronts: the late 19th century hypersexualizing of Salome and a more critical approach that stresses the study of the music itself. The author presents the works of many late 19th century artists and draws upon criticism/discussion of more modern scholars to help make his point. He concludes that though it would be easy to analysis Salome, especially in the late 19th century, as the Freudian trend towards sexualizing everything, it also provides a deeper view of the cultural underpinnings that create some of these dated and misogynistic notions/ideas. The author begins by presenting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As was mentioned in class, Kramer highlights to artistic and cultural depictions of Salome not only as a product of their time, but as objects with social agency, object that created the zeitgeist of their time. This demonstrates a real life example of Frith s idea that identity is created through music, or in this case that arts. In this discussion around a female figure, the artists who present their interpretations of her not only contribute to the artistic realm, but inform and reinforce social dynamics. The musical examples that the author presents in his discussion serve as bridge between the literary criticism their musical embodiment. It also highlights the manner in which issues surrounding gender were discussed which, as seen with previous examples (Crawford and Copland), shares much of the same language when addressing issues around race and ethnicity. Also, when looking at the dichotomies inherent in the representations of John and Salome (Christian v.s. Hebrew, tonal v.s. atonal, male v.s. female), the emerging sentiment is that of us v.s. them, which serves as the basis for many misunderstandings or problems around race and ethnicity. This then ties into the idea of politics in music, such that a composer or group of people are not only creating and accepting a certain identity, the very act of doing so can be against mainstream or country currents. It could be understood as revolutionary acts. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jesus s genealogy starts with himself, goes through to the son of Joseph, then son of David, son of Abraham, and then ends with the first man of the world which is Adam (Luke 3:23 38). The author of Luke does this to help show the readers that Jesus is a relative of many different men of many different backgrounds themselves, but in the end that are all a dependent on the same man who started off the human race. Martin Luther And The Protestant Reformation In the early days of November 10, 1483, Martin Luther was born in Eisleben, Saxony, in modern southeast Germany and it was an extremely tense world. But on the other hand great changes were waiting around the corner, and Luther too, would take a part in these changes. On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther, angry with Pope Leo X s new round of indulgences to help build St. Peter s Basilica, nailed a sheet of paper with his 95 Theses on the University of Wittenberg s chapel door. Martin Luther was a German monk who began the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century, becoming one of the most influential and controversial figures in Christian history. Luther called into question some of the basic tenets of Roman Catholicism, and his followers soon split from the Roman Catholic Church to begin the Protestant tradition. The first few years of monastic life were difficult for Martin Luther, as he did not find the religious enlightenment he was seeking. A mentor told him to focus his life exclusively on Christ and this would later provide him with the guidance he sought. The Challenge For E Learning Practitioners While the phrase a picture is worth a thousand words is often used to emphasize the importance of visuals, recent research from neuroscience reveals the science behind that saying. However, the challenge for e learning practitioners arises when they attempt to integrate learning theory into the design and creation of visuals and video. Although elearning practitioners and instructional designers are educated in learning theory, what is often overlooked is the design of effective visuals and/or video that has a basis learning theory. To that end, there is a difference between the way the brain remembers words and remembers visuals. The brain has an extraordinary capacity to remember visual information. Memory experiments with visuals have shown that people can recall seeing hundreds, even thousands, of pictures. Pictures seem to operate as chunks and while the brain can hold only a few chunks in working memory at a time, visual images allow the brain to hold and enlarge the scope of those chunks. This is because visual processes evolved over millions of years, so the brain machinery is highly efficient in storing and recalling visual information. Humans are predominantly processors of visual information, where neuroscience has revealed 90% of what the brain processes is visual information. Their creation story places an emphasis on maintaining a balance between man and nature. This balance was broken for the Indians when, after violating the Dawes Act, a treaty that gave them full rights to their sacred land, white men pushed them out of their homeland and forced them into a society that they never wanted to be a part of. In doing this, their culture was greatly diminished, along with their hope of a better future. Today, the Lakota Indians face poverty and other challenges that all stem from a time when their rights were violated, peace broken, and stories forgotten. Stories are central to the Lakota way of life, specifically their story of how the world came to be. The Lakota Indians believe that the Great Spirit created everything. They say that there was once another world, but the Great Spirit was upset with those people because they had lost the sacredness of the land, so he destroyed it and made a new one. To bring water, he sang a song, but by the fourth song, the Earth was flooded. The flood killed all of the animals except the crow, Kangi, illustrating the necessity of balance in life. The Doctor Will Return is about a poem that illustrates what the hospital looks like and what it consists of if a person chose to walk inside for a treatment or recovery for their diagnosis. Groucho Marx once said, A hospital bed is a parked taxi with the meter running (Brainyquote.com). In other words what he was trying to say was, the longer a person is in the hospital, the bigger the bill is going to be no matter how much or how less the doctor s may help an individual heal. Nursing Shortage in Maryland and How does it Effect Healthcare Renita Scott March 17, 2015 PUAD 751.TW1 Sp15 What is the nursing shortage and why does it exist in Maryland? The History of Nursing The practice of nursing started in the past around the Middle Ages, where women in primitive societies where made to take care of the sick whether they wanted to or not. For example, in Ethiopia among the Zuni tribe, if a baby is born with part of the placenta covering the face, it was taken as a sign that the baby would be marked as one destined to become a caregiver. (Henly Moss, 2007). In many societies, nurses were mostly untrained women who helped deliver babies or were wet nurses. According to The History of Nursing (2013) religious figures like nuns had more training and cared for the sick. However, by the 13th through the 16th centuries, religious orders felt as if it was their duty to care for the physical needs of people as well as their spiritual needs and formed sisterhoods to carry out this mission. In 1645, Jeanne Mance, a nurse from France, established the Hotel Dieu de Montreal in Canada, the first hospital in North America. By the 18th century, the United States was beginning to realize the need for organized nursing services. In 1751, Benjamin Franklin and Dr. Thomas Bond opened Pennsylvania Hospital, the nation s first hospital. It served the poor and homeless in Philadelphia. In particular, I will be looking at concepts such as the rate of diffusion, the technological agency and also the views of hard and soft technological determinism. Smith and Marx (1998:14) describe technological determinism as the human tendency to create the kind of society that invests technologies with enough power to drive history . This definition of technological determinism can be related to the process of buying a train ticket as this essay shows how organizations used technology to make this process more efficient and as a result, changed the way that society buys train ticket, which became the norm now. The European Colonization Of Africa The European colonization of Africa, also known as the Scramble for Africa, Partition of Africa, or Conquest of Africa, occurred between the 1870s and 1900s, and was the invasion, occupation, colonization, and annexation of African territory by European powers during a period of New Imperialism. European control of the continent increased from 10 percent (1870) to 90 percent (1914), with only three territories, Saguia el Hamra, which was later integrated into Spanish Sahara, Ethiopia and Liberia remaining independent of Europe s control. There were many reasons for the European colonization of Africa, including economic and political motives, with the Berlin Conference serving as a catalyst. Africans resisted the European invasions of their lands, with the two main methods of opposition were guerilla warfare and direct military engagement. European influence on Africa still remains today, though these influences are generally negative and hurt Africa s overall development. The imperatives of capitalist industrialization, including the call for guaranteed sources of raw materials, especially copper, cotton, rubber, tea, and tin (European consumers had become accustomed to, and thus depended on these resources), and the search for guaranteed markets and profitable investment outlets, which territories like the gold and diamond rich Egypt and South Africa provided, caused the European conquest for Africa. During her life, the Blessed Mother was constantly in tune with God s will. Every morning she woke up thinking about God, she thought about Him continually throughout the day, and she went to bed thinking about Him. She was the new Eve, who possessed the same preternatural gifts that Adam and Eve possessed before they sinned. As a reminder, in addition to an immortal soul, God gave our first parents, Adam and Eve, the preternatural gifts of integrity, bodily immortality, and infused knowledge. The definition of preternatural is that which is beyond the natural but is not strictly supernatural. The preternatural gift of integrity (the absence of concupiscence) gave Adam and Eve the natural ability to control their desires and passions. They were created with some knowledge of God and complete knowledge of the secular world.
