Roman Catholic Church Part 2 Summary
Part 2:
The two big splits in 1054, resulted in the Roman catholic church breaking into separate branches.
One being the Eastern Orthodox Catholics, and the other being the Roman Catholics who belong in
the West. The separation had been influenced by Germanic tribes invading across Europe and the
effect plunged the whole of Europe in the Dark Ages . A mixture of many political, social, cultural,
economic, theological, linguistic differences caused a split in the Roman church.
Within the whole church, there were only five patriarchs. They were spread out mainly in the east
(Antioch, Alexandria, Jerusalem and Byzantium) which all spoke Greek and were also located in the
west of Rome, with their principal language Latin. Both of these two sides could not read nor have
any access to the writings of the theologians on the opposite side as the western theology was
supported by a small number of Latin theologians, whereas the east focused on Greek theology.
With all the lack of agreement and contrast, it had been the substructure for the Great Schism.

Even though Luther s questions were quite humble rather than accusing, the Pope found Luther s

The Similarities Of Mother Teresa And Angelina Jolie
Who do you look up to? Many different people are considered an inspiration for many different
reasons. When looking at Mother Teresa and Angelina Jolie, you may not immediately see a whole lot
of similarities. The things that come to my mind when I think of them is their fame or popularity, their
way of inspiring thousands, and the controversy behind their names. Their popularity may be the
biggest thing they share. They are hugely known all around the world, although their popularity may
be more well known to more past generations compared to the newer ones. Mother Teresa is known
for her catholic religion and her devotion to it. When she was just eighteen she felt the desire to
become a missionary, in September 1928 she took off to fulfill that dream. On May 24, 1937 she made
her final vows to her religion and after that she was called Mother Teresa. She traveled the world
spreading word of love and her religion. She s helped many in need, this is how she got her popularity.
Angelina Jolie began her study of theatre at age eleven, five years later she started modeling and was
in a few music videos. Her big launch into fame was in 1999 in the movie The Bone Collector . As
you can see they made their way to fame in two pretty different ways, but they actually are well
known for one thing in common. They are both humanitarians. Angelina Jolie became interested in
humanitarian work after her first adoption from Cambodia in 2002. She adopted three kids overall,
and shares three with her now divorced husband, Brad Pitt. Mother Teresa became dedicated
humanitarian work after her final vows. Both were born and raised with influence in their legacies.
With fame comes inspiration. Both women traveled the world, although for different reasons both
gained knowledge from their travels. Mother Teresa met many in need of help while spreading the
word of love from Jesus. If you look up Mother Teresa it is likely you will find the webpage dedicated
to her, on this page you will find many testimonies from lots of people, whether they knew her
personally, admired her, or were helped by her. She has lived a life devoted to her religion, and when
her question of faith was released to the public many found it admirable and saw

Mariott Corporation Case Study
Marriott s corporation: the cost of capital What is the weighted average cost of capital for Marriott
Corporation? Are the four components of Marriott s financial strategy consistent with its growth
objective? Marriott Corporation is an international company who s the growth over the year has been
more than satisfactory. In 1987, Marriott s sales grew up by 24% and its return on equity stood at
22%. Moreover the sales and earnings pr share has doubled over the previous year. The company
operates in three divisions: lodging, contract services and restaurants which represents 41%, 46% and
13% of sales in 1987 respectively. Marriott is determined to develop and to enhance its position in
each division. This main goal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To determine the opportunity cost of capital, Marriott required three inputs: debt capacity, debt cost,
and equity cost consistent with the amount of debt. The cost of capital depends on each division. In
fact the evaluation of the WACC is an appropriate tool to calculate the cost of capital for the
corporation as a whole and for each division. The cost of equity One of the two major component of
WACC is the cost of equity. The cost of equity model takes into account three values which we must
calculate a risk free rate (rf), risk premium rate (expected market return rf), and Beta Value. Before
doing the calculations, we will justify our choices. We based it on the Stocks, Bonds, Bills and
Inflation (SBBI). This workmanship is a standard reference source for business appraisers. It has been
published annually since 1983. The beta value As it is said in the case, we already know the equity
beta (0,97). But the capital structure (leverage) affects beta estimates. In order to eliminate the effect
of leverage, we will calculate the asset beta, which reflects the sensitivity of the firm s assets
abstracting from capital structure. That is why we have to convert the equity beta into the asset beta.
Then we can calculate the equity beta without the leverage effect. To calculate the asset beta, we need
the current debt value. The ratio D/V for the company is set at 41% so we can find the ratio E/V is set
at 59%. It comes from the exhibit 3 which

technology used, in addition to a special heat activated nickel titanium archwire, actually creates less
friction than traditional braces, allowing for faster, more effective treatment under the correct
circumstances. If you are looking for a more convenient, possibly faster orthodontic option, self
ligating braces may be the solution for you.
Are self ligating braces right for me?
In addition to being convenient and effective, self ligating braces have a few other perks. Self ligating
braces are easier to clean than traditional braces due the absence of ligatures, require fewer visits to
our office, and require less time at each appointment. Self ligating braces work great for many
patients. However, to determine if our self ligating braces option is right for you, you will need to
schedule a consultation with Dr. Eckelson. Your specific situation will largely determine whether or

The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fist Fight In Heaven Analysis
Throughout the book, The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight in Heaven, life is heavily portrayed on
the Spokane Indian Reservation. Some factors of life such as tradition and storytelling are easily
noticed throughout the book; however, some less noticed factors of life such as resilience and
forgiveness might forgo the reader s attention. The challenges faced by those living on the reservation
are abundant. The way these individuals, especially Victor, overcome these challenges is just a
testimony to their character and emotional strength. Tradition plays a huge role in the characters lives
that live on the reservation. Thomas portrays his respect towards traditional Spokane culture by
participating in Spokane storytelling. He is always trying to convince Victor to join in on the
storytelling, dancing, and ceremonies, but Victor seems uninterested. Compared to Thomas, Victor
seems to be quite removed at the beginning of the book. Victor actively makes fun of Thomas and
how much he cares about the culture on the reservation. Although Thomas is constantly being made
fun of by Victor, he still continues his traditions and still continues to try to convince Victor to join in
on the traditions. Towards the end, Victor begins to connect more with ... Show more content on

How Personal Branding And Maintenance Of One Is Crucial...

maintenance of one is crucial for the development and success of future careers. With today s tough
and competitive job market, jobseekers are struggling to stand out from their peers and are used to

that individuals are not left behind and that they develop the competitive advantage that positions
them for the career opportunities they deserve.

Personal branding has become an important aspect for candidates within job searches (Kaputa, 2006).
While many companies are using the opportunity of search engines and social media as hiring tools
for future employees, personal branding has become a crucial part of the hiring process.
Developing a Personal Brand
One of the most important aspects of developing a personal brand is differentiating between important
terminologies within the branding spectrum. the first step begins by establishing a brand identity and
communicating that through brand positioning to a specific target audience. Brand identity is defined
as how the marketer wants the brand to be perceived, Brand positioning uses that specific brand
identity to differentiate the person from other candidates within their target audience by highlighting
important values and aspects of the brand identity. The brand image is then noted as a reflection of the
person from their audience. This reaction is generally based on visible behavior, nonverbal behavior,
and other observable cues. (Frischmann, 2014) In order to begin the process of establishing a brand
identity, one must acknowledge what it is about themselves that is worthy of branding. suggests that to
start the branding process, it s necessary to develop a processional biography that includes a personal
brand statement, which includes visions, goals, and passions that

Levitt And Dubner s Freakonomics
In Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything, the authors, Steven D.
Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, explore and analyze highly charged economic subjects. The authors take
well known topics, such as popular culture, and analyze them from an economic standpoint, in ways
that may have not been thought of before. However, these diverse and controversial topics are
presented in such a way that does not offend the reader. Levitt and Dubner achieve the delicate
balance between the offensive and non offensive by using an unconventional combination of tone,
language, phrasing, syntax, and repetition. An important part of the book is the way the tone is set.
The authors discuss complicated and occasionally controversial topics, but the narration uses a casual
tone, which is unexpected for a book about economics. The conversational tone makes the ideas
presented easier to understand for any reader. Since the book is written in a way that it feels as though
the reader is being spoken to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They repeat the subject regularly in order for the reader to become accustomed to it. The constant
repetition not only keeps the reader thinking about the themes, but also gets them used to the ideas, so
that the proposed theories are not as offensive. Levitt and Dubner make their points clear, and each
chapter follows a similar formula. It opens with a question, then uses skills and tactics explained in
earlier chapters to analyze new subjects. They teach the importance of incentives, that conventional
wisdom is not always correct, along with dramatic effects having subtle causes and experts using their
information to help themselves. The continual reiteration of these ideas shown in a formulaic is
another point that helps the audience to comprehend the often confusing concepts that are

The Function Of James And Musculoskeletal System
Case Introduction
James Walsh, a 55 year old male presented symptoms including weakness inferiorly in his right lower
limb and difficulty performing simple tasks such as walking or tying his shoelace. He also had some
difficulties swallowing and often experiences unpredictable movements due to lack of control. As a
result, he primarily uses a wheelchair and requires careful assistance when performing everyday
activities.
The function of James musculoskeletal system is primarily to facilitate movement as the contraction
of his muscles pull on bone to carry out an action. It also contributes to heat production for enzymes to
function, stability by resisting unwanted movement and maintains his posture (Saladin, K S., 2007).

However, James case of spastic cerebral palsy alters the interaction between the musculoskeletal and
nervous system in some areas which are affected.
Case Examination
James condition of spastic cerebral palsy impacts the regulation of muscle tone due to the effect of
spinal reflexes when muscles are slightly contracted (Ballard, F., 2016). Muscle tone is dependent on
the release of alpha motor neurons in the spinal cord (Albright, A.L., 1995). This is regulated when
there is a balance between excitatory impulses and inhibitory impulses. James condition of cerebral
palsy indicates that there is an imbalance between excitatory impulses and inhibitory impulses. The
imbalance between these impulses causes a lack in regulation of muscle tone due to the insufficient
release of alpha motor neurons in the spinal cord (Albright, A.L., 1995). James excess production of
excitatory impulses originates in the golgi tendons of organs and muscle spindle, a specialised sensory
receptor in the muscle (Albright, A.L., 1995). The impulse then passes through afferent nerves into the
spinal cord and releases excitatory neurotransmitters. In contrast, the lack of ability to generate
inhibitory impulses suggest that the regions of the brain responsible for the generation of inhibitory
impulses including the basal ganglia, brain stem and cerebellum may be damaged (Albright, A.L.,
1995). Consequently, the excess of excitatory impulses may result in

The Search for Truth in Hamlet by William Shakespeare
Hamlet will always be well known for his delay in killing Claudius. After the interaction with his
fathers ghost. The ghost informes Hamlet that he must get revenge and now kill Claudius. But from
the start hesitation was in effect. There are many different theories of why Hamlet delayed revenge the
most well know are finding of a perfect moment and him questioning death and the ghost itself.
Hamlet was never unfaithful, he always want to go, but that he had never finished thinking the matter
out.
Hamlet feels the moment of death is important and has to come at the right time. Hamlet had one well
known opportunity to kill Claudius, but his hesitation came in when he realized he was praying.
According to Karl S Guthke hamlet did not kill Claudius while he was praying because if he was to
have stabbed him in the back at that moment he would go straight to heaven no matter how sinful his
life was. ( Guthke 91) Hamlet shows how important the moment of death is when he says that he will
wait until lust and sin come back, and when his soul would be at the door of hell. (Kilgore)He is
constantly putting it off, because he is not ready, because he has not done thinking about it. Hamlet
says he will not kill him now, he wants to find a moment that when killed he will be sent to hell.
(Shakespeare)
A main reason for the delay was questioning the truth. He wanted to make sure his uncle Claudius was
the one actually guilty of murdering his father the king .He didn t want

Corruption Of British Rule And Imperialism In George...
Corruption of British Rule and Imperialism: The killing of an Elephant Shooting an Elephant explores
the parallels between Britain s imperialism and a British officer s moral quandary with killing an
elephant. Orwell s use of political critique is not lost in Shooting an Elephant. George Orwell s distrust
and dislike of British rule is a common theme in most of his works like 1984 and Animal Farm, and is
the hidden main idea of the Shooting an Elephant. By using themes of tyranny and conscience and
symbols like the elephant Orwell conveys his contempt for Britain and imperialism as a whole.
Shooting an Elephant takes place in 1920 s Burma which is now known as Myanmar. At this time
Burma had lost a sixty year fight with Britain and was under British rule. The Burmese people and the
British officers that keep them in line are in a constant state of tension with each other. George Orwell
was a British soldier in Burma from 1922 to 1927 (Kozak 64) much like the main character of this
essay. Shooting an Elephant is written in first person, and in this way, the essay can be seen as an
autobiography. Orwell has long been known for is distrust of government, and uses this distrust in his
writings. In Shooting an Elephant Orwell conveys the life of a British soldier in Burma and the
struggle of obtaining power from a source that is hated. In many of Orwell s writings his distaste for
government is accompanied by a fondness for the lower class. The soldier in Shooting an Elephant

Essay On African American Reconstruction
The reconstruction after the civil war did provide more rights for African Americans. However,
despite the efforts, reconstruction in general failed to meet its goals of protecting the rights of African
Americans. African Americans faced poverty and as the US began to be in deficit, their struggles
increased. Social pressure by terror groups as well as general culture promoted the ideas of inferiority
of African Americans. Furthermore, the government passed laws, such as Black codes or the Jim Crow
laws, that supported these cultural ideas and increased the challenges of economical stability.Through
these oppressive economic, social and political situations, African Americans found themselves in a
disadvantaged position in society.

Two sets of laws which persecuted African Americans appeared. The first were the Black codes.
Initially, discriminating laws were passed mostly in the southern states. After the civil war, southern
states passed Black Codes, a series of laws meant to restrict the rights of African Americans. These
laws persecuted African Americans in a variety of ways. African Americans were stopped from voting
and serving on juries. They were not allowed to marry white people, and also could own arms. The
second set of laws, the Jim Crow laws, was used to segregate African Americans from the rest of
society. In addition to restricting African Americans from participating in the aforementioned
activities, African Americans were segregated in schools. The court case Plessy vs Ferguson defined
that segregation was legal because both parties were being given equal services. However, this was
not the case. White school had newer books, better classrooms, and were funded significantly more
than the non white schools. The government of the United States became increasingly less involved in
protecting the rights of African Americans, and the white supremacist culture continued to become a
norm. This stalled political change and increased racism in

Cathedral Essay
Cathedral
Sometimes we have to look beyond what we see on the outside to understand something more deeply.
In the short story Cathedral By Raymond Carver, the narrator has an attitude of being selfish, and
jealous through the story. The narrator s wife invites a blind man, Robert, to come stay in their house
for a short time while the man visits family members of his own wife who recently passed. The
narrator is not enthusiastic because blind people make the narrator uncomfortable, mainly because the
narrator has no real experience with the blind. In addition, to his uneasiness with the blind the narrator

The narrator assumes that that he is more capable of making his own wife happy than Robert simply
because he can see. When the narrator makes this assumption it shows that he doesn t know the
difference between seeing and understanding something more deeply for the true meaning.
When Robert first arrives, things are a little awkward. The narrator isn t sure what to say to Robert. As
the night goes on they share many drinks, eat dinner, and even smoke some dope. Even the simple
concept of smoking weed was one of the first real connections the narrator and Robert had. The
narrator, seeing that Robert wanted to smoke some dope with him might have made him feel more
comfortable and think Robert as just an normal, easy going man. Once the wife falls asleep on the
couch, we begin to see how Robert begins to open up the narrators eyes. Robert is an insightful and
compassionate man who takes the time to truly listen to others , which helps him to see them better
than he could with his eyes. These are qualities that the narrator is strongly lacking which start to
inspire him to change. The only thing on television is a documentary about cathedrals the narrator
wonders if Robert knows what a cathedral looks like so he asks him. Roberts asks him to describe the
cathedral for him, because he can t picture one. I stared hard at the shot of the cathedral on the TV.

Capital as a Factor of Production and the Capital Theory...
1.1. Capital as a factor of production and the capital theory debates
Beginning in the mid 1950s and for the following twenty years or so, a debate concerning the
neoclassical treatment of capital turned apparent in the discipline. This gave rise to a series of
exchanges between scholars associated with Cambridge, England, and Cambridge, Massachusetts,
(US). This debate is broadly known in the literature as the Cambridge capital theory controversies .
The relevance of this controversy lies in that the criticisms of neoclassical theory raised by Cambridge
(UK) concern both the theoretical illegitimacy of measuring capital as a single magnitude in value
terms to determine prices and distribution, and the foundational premise underlying the dominant
supply and demand approach: the factor substitution principle. In the controversies it has been shown
that this principle cannot in general be posited to explain the distribution of the social product in terms
of supply and demand. This result, discovered by means of the analysis of the relation between prices
and distribution in economies with heterogeneous capital goods, has been revealed as theoretically
irrefutable, and, as this study will argue, concerns the hard core of the neoclassical or marginal theory
both in its traditional (capital measured in value terms) and in its contemporary formulations (capital
as a set of heterogeneous goods).
Capital as a single magnitude has been the treatment on which, under conditions

The higher concentrations of sucrose, more water will move inside the dialysis tubes at a faster rate.
Therefore dialysis bag with higher concentrations of sucrose will have greater difference in mass over
time and thus a greater rate of osmosis. The variables were controlled by keeping the amount of
sucrose concentration to be at 20 ml and the distilled water to be at 200 ml. Weight balance was
covered to stop letting the air affect the weight of each bags. Although the data supports my
hypothesis, there has been outliers. For example, in the control group there happens to be osmosis
going on but at a smaller rate than the other concentrations. This wasn t supposed to happen because
due to isotonic nature of solution. This might have been due to excess water in dialysis bag. Since this
experiment heavily relies on the handling of the experiments, errors could have easily occurred. The
dialysis might not have been properly dried. One of the example of this 2% sucrose having 21.4 grams
at 30 minutes from 21.9 grams at 20 minutes. The air conditioner could have affected the results
during the data collection phase although steps were taken to prevent this from happening. Not having
the same experimenter for the dialysis bag might have affected the results. Not tying the dental floss
tightly may have caused the loss in mass for certain bags. Errors could have occurred from the time it
took to out the bag from the distilled

How To Ride A Horse
There are many days that I believe I can just saddle up my horse and ride away into the sunset like the
ending to a movie. It s wonderful knowing what it takes to get to that level of success, and to an
outsider, it may look like I am a great rider. In reality, I had to learn somewhere too. It comes with a
process that will help with any ride; however, it won t take away the unexpected situations that could
ruin your perfect vision for that day. There s a way to learn and develop your technique because
learning to ride a horse is more than a process: It s practice. The way to begin is to have a horse that
you can ride. This can either mean that you lease a horse from a nearby stable and use their facility to
ride, or you have a horse of

Analysis Of Peter Singer s Argument On Famine, Affluence,...
I m a strong believer in that anyone can make their own choices in life. There is no such thing as
moral obligation in my books, however there does exist courtesy or kind heartedness. Peter Singer s
argument regarding famine, affluence, and morality is, in my opinion, strongly influenced by
sympathetic and empathetic feelings based on observations in a still developing country. In a sense,
his reasoning is subjective and biased because he seems to focus only on the problem, and not the
circumstances that could have prevented such problems from the beginning. I will elaborate on some
of the loopholes in his arguments, and further clarify why the more fortunate people (in terms of
wealth) should NOT be morally obligated to help the poor, rather they should have the choice of being
courteous or kind, and they should have the freedom to spend the money they worked so hard for
according to their own agenda. To start, I would like to establish that suffering and death from lack of
food and other necessities is indeed a bad thing. There is no counter argument to that statement.
However, the problem lies in the second and third premises, which states that (2) if it is in our power
to prevent something bad from happening, then we have a moral duty to do it; (3) therefore, we have a
moral duty to help the poor. According to Singer, the second premise is comprised of a strong and
weak argument. The strong argument states that the wealthy people should help the poor people at a

Comparing Gilgamesh And The Book Of Genesis
The Epic of Gilgamesh depicts a story about Gilgamesh, a king on earth who is two thirds god and
one third human. However, he is young and oppresses his people ruthlessly. The story takes the reader
on a journey through a series of events that ultimately leads Gilgamesh to find his true self. One
important historical event that took place is the flood, which occurs in both the Epic of Gilgamesh and
the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament. The Epic of Gilgamesh and the Book of Genesis in the Old
Testament share a great amount of similarities.
In both books, there are Gods who possess almighty powers on earth. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Enlil,
the god of the winds, calls for a flood to end all of mankind because man was too noisy. Similarly, in
the Book of Genesis, God calls for a great flood to destroy all mankind because they were sinning. In
the Epic of Gilgamesh, Ea, the god of wisdom tells Utnapishtim in a dream to tear his house down and
build a boat. On the other hand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

ended with only just heavy rain no ground water. Also the shape of the ark was a big difference, in
Genesis its shape is a rectangular type of shape. In Gligamesh its more of a square shaped boat. When
the flood was all over they released birds to test the land and find a secure location. In Genesis the
birds that were used was raven and three doves but on the other hand Gilgamesh used a Dove,

Descriptive Essay About A New School
A New School Have you ever had to move before? If you have you know it s a scary feeling having to
start all over with friends and join a new school. Early in the morning when we moved made the nice
peaceful weather cold and rainy. The feeling sent shivers down my spine as if there was a
thunderstorm. Sweat trickled down my back. I was so scared to move that my teeth were chattering.
First I ran over to my neighbors for one last Goodbye! Then out of the blue the moving truck was all
packed so I scurried back into the house that used to be ours and peered around. Driving away I knew
that was the last time I will ever see that house again. A move from LA to Chicago is a giant move.
The weather is different and so are the people. We found our new extremely awesome house that was
so tall and wide that you had to stand a good distance to see what s on the other side of the house. I
wandered in and found myself standing in a enormous room with a red brick fireplace. I strolled
around until I got to the very next floor where I found a bedroom that I called dibs on! Peering out the
window at my Mom and Dad unpacking the car, so far down they appeared like mini figures playing
with Hot wheels. My mom came in and asked me Do you guys like this house? My brother and I
responded in unison This place is AWESOME! I screamed to my brother, George, in excitement Look
at the rooms they are so big and cool! Follow me this way. Oh and I already call dibs on the first

Pilate Benefits
This article discusses about Pilates for the older people to keep body proper and balance, which it is
necessary. Since it says that for Pilates for elder in so many forms of exercise may cause stress or
frustration on themselves. So, while staying in shape while reducing the risk of injury that weight
bearing exercises may cause, they are more focus on the controlled breathing and quality of
movements of the body instead of the boundaries (arms and legs), where the potential for injury is
greater. In difference with other forms of exercise, Pilates develops the midrange and gradually works
toward the endurance, while maintaining complete control around the joints. To the benefit of older
adults, Pilates teaches control and stability in a small range of motion, graduating to a larger range of
motion as they gain control and confidence. Pilates also help with a variety of age related weaknesses.
Arthritis sufferers benefit because the gentle mid range movements decrease the chance of joints
compressing while maintaining the range of motion around them. For sufferers of osteoporosis or
stenosis, Pilates can also help. For osteoporosis the simple and standing Pilates leg exercises may
increase bone density in both the spine and the hip.

An Essay On Frida Kahlo
Considered one of Mexico s greatest artists, Frida Kahlo was a self portrait artist and is still admired
as a feminist icon. She was born on July 6, 1907 in Coyoacan, Mexico City and grew up in the family
s house where was later referred as the Blue House. During her childhood, Frida had poor health
causing her to contract polio at age six and had to be in her bed all the time for nine months, this
disease caused her right foot and leg to grow much thinner than her left extremity. Kahlo began
painting after she was severely injured in a bus accident where a steel handrail impaled her through
the hip. She later became politically active and on 1929 she married fellow communist activist, Diego
Rivera. In 1938, Frida had a greater exhibition at a New York City gallery, selling about half of the
total paintings shown there. A few years later, she went to live to Paris for an amount of time, there
she exhibited some of her paintings and befriended important artists such as Marcel Duchamp and
Pablo Picasso. Her health issues began consuming her around 1950 even though she continued to
paint and support political causes despite her lack of mobility. Deeply depressed, and about a week
after her 47th birthday, Kahlo died on July 13 at her precious Blue House.

How I approached writing my Genre Analysis:
I approached my genre writing based on Writing in the Health Sciences guidelines for research papers.
Since my chosen paper was a research paper, I looked for the sections in a research paper that
included the abstract, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, and references. This
helped me decide what needed to be in each section so I could elaborate on if it was included or was
not.
How I found my sources:
I started out by going through articles on google scholar and found the one that made me most
interested. I have known people that have smoked during pregnancy and what happened to their child
so I wanted to see if children could potentially have asthma from their mom smoking. ... Show more

Here I also stated if my paper had that convention and if they had any variation in a research paper
regarding to Writing in the Health Sciences. This helped me write my paper because we were to
describe each convention in our genre analysis so it gave me a start. It also helped me analyze the
effectiveness of the genre which was step 4 in our paper. Here in step 4 I think was my most difficult
part in the paper because after gaining your input on that you should not say I believe I understand
why it sounds more confident. I will now write my ideas as such, but then when proofreading go back
and delete it because it sounds better stating why x causes y.
What went well in my Genre Analysis:
After receiving your comment on my genre analysis paper, I noticed that I did have a lot of
information in my paper. I went over the minimum word count because I felt that it was necessary
because I wanted to incorporate the information from the study into my paper. What also went well in
my paper was that I appropriately cited information in APA, which included in text citations and
references. If I did these wrong, I wish you could tell me since from my understanding I did them right
and want to do well on the test paper.

Human Resource Frames
Change Analysis
Despite higher education institutions being a place of learning and reflection. The political and
symbolic frames captures most school s typical organizational life, which is steeped in structured
policies, roles and hierarchy; tradition, ceremonies and rituals (Bolman Deal, 2013). Due to these
complexities COCE deans do not prescribe to human resource frame relationships (Bolman Deal,
2013). Too often, Bolman and Deal (2013) assert organizations rely on a limited perspective in
addressing organizational problems and challenges. Such limited perspectives, Bolman and Deal

and Deal (2013) as the factory or machine the element of organizations need to exist for effectiveness.
Because this frame is more or less one sided, and emphasizes rules and policies dictated from COCE
leadership to its adjuncts. It is not the most appropriate framework for a collaborative efforts, such as a

Human Resource Frame
The human resource frame tends to be most challenging for COCE deans, as well as many other
leaders. The human resource frame provokes the concept of an organizations being like an extended

compassion, support and empowerment. This is the frame and leadership characteristics needed to

The Medical And Scientific Aspect Of Happiness
Is Happiness Within Our Grasp of Understanding Happiness is a very broad yet complex topic to
discuss. While most people try to explain happiness with philosophy, I will be writing more about the
medical and scientific aspect of happiness. There are two schools of thought on happiness, first one
being social happiness and the second one being solitary happiness with me learning towards the
former over the ladder. Medically, happiness comes down to a handful of chemicals (also called
neurotransmitters) in the brain and if you are happy or not it comes down to the levels of these
chemicals in the brain.
Endocannabinoids or also known as the bliss chemical, contrary to popular belief adrenaline is not a
cause of runner s high as it can not cross the blood brain barrier but endocannabinoids levels are
elevated after a run suggesting that endocannabinoids are the cause of runner s high. This is in the
same group of chemicals that cannabis THC is in. The Endocannabinoid system is not found in all
animals, it is mainly found in mammals most notable humans and canines. Not very well known but
this is main feel good neurotransmitter.
The reward neurotransmitter called dopamine is the chemical that causes you to feel good after you
reach a set goal you have made. Most drugs make people happy by causing dopamine to remain in the
synaptic cleft longer which is the space between where the neurons (brain cells in this case) touch
other cells. Risk seekers have elevated

Streamers are people who broadcast them playing video games through a broadcasting service. This
service is twitch , as it has a monopoly on the video game broadcasting market. The broadcasters gain
ad revenue and viewers can subscribe to streams, allowing them to gain an income from streaming and
interacting with viewers, however, it is a free service and can be viewed by anyone without any
payments needing to be made. Esports has influenced this due to the immense amount of organisations
requiring professional players to implement streaming in their day to day activities. Streaming is an
integral part of a professional gamer s life in the western world due to the ad revenue it provides.
Companies attempt to raise the profile of the players through content on youtube such as gaming
house tours, making the players seem more likeable and approachable, directly influencing the user
interaction gained from streaming, thus, increasing revenue. By observing twitch streams I was able to
find that the top 3 twitch streams on avg. at any one time would have 10 20 thousand viewers in the

Stereotype A Thought By Beverly Daniel Tatum
Stereotype a Thought Today, many believe that stereotypes have been eradicated throughout our
modern world, this is far from the truth. Beverly Daniel Tatum, an author of several books including
Why Are Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria asks, How did academic achievement become
defined as exclusively white behavior? Tatum has an interesting point, however stereotyping is not
just about race it can be about gender bias, or body issues too. Ann DuCille, author of From
Multicultural Barbie and the Merchandising of Difference says; Barbie s body is a consumer object
itself a vehicle for display of clothing and spectacular trappings of a wealthy teenage fantasy life .
Ducille gives a good example of body politics, and the importance of not only focusing on race. Thus,
is a good example of how stereotypes are learned by how one is treated in school or at home.
Education about racial identity, gender equality, and body shaming, to an extent, will help eliminate
some forms of stereotyping and create a more understanding and equal society. Therefore schools are
not the problem, stereotypes, however racist, sexist, or just plain mean, are learned at home and in
schools from peers, parents and teachers alike. In a way, stereotypes will never truly be eliminated
from our world because from the day we are born we notice differences. One may argue that it is just a
distinction between people, which constitutes stereotyping. Just

The Evolution Of Tourism
Since the beginning of human civilization in the world, travelling has been an ongoing event. The
early humans travelled for hunting and food gathering. Later, as society evolved, travelling became
more prominent but became limited to trade, pilgrimage, studies, migration, royal affairs and
exploration, rather than for pleasure and entertainment. From this knowledge it is evident that
travelling is part of human nature but tourism is a process and activities of a new and moderately
recent phenomenon. The evolution of tourism can be divided into three phases.
The First Phase
This beginning phase can be referred to as tourism before railways which represent the period before
1840 where travelling was primarily undertaken for the purpose of trade and pilgrimage. In the
medieval period (12 17th century), the Europeans had different notions of travelling. According to
their belief, if someone did not visit any new places in one s own lifetime, they were highly neglected
in the society. So, every individual was supposed to visit at least Italy, as Rome was recognized as
their place of origin and a religious shrine too. This reveals that the nature of tour was spiritually
oriented. But towards the late medieval period, the reason for travel drastically changed as most
people started to travel abroad for the purpose of receiving higher education during this period. The
Aristocrats of the Europe used to send their children abroad for attaining higher education. This kind
of tourism is called Proto Tourism . In the 18th century, the motive for travelling took a drastic change
again. During this period sick people started to undertake travel to spa for those days, Nice in France,
Baden in Germany and Carlsberg in Czechoslovakia were very popular for a spa in Europe. Gradually,
the way of taking mineral water and spa was changed to coastal areas where people believed that after
taking a bath in the sea, they would get recovered. From this, the sea bathing concept emerged. Due to
the increase of tourists visiting coastal areas, there became a dire need to build and as a result resorts
started to emerge in such destinations.
The Second Phase
The second phase of tourism marks the onset of the industrial revolution.

Explain the way in which Duffy presents the strengths and...
Explain the way in which Duffy presents the strengths and limitations of language in two poems.
When drawing from both Warming Her Pearls and Selling Manhattan , it is evident that Carol Anne
Duffy maintains a certain avant garde approach to the vast array of possibilities that language presents.
She acutely exposes the ambiguity that language holds in its meanings, presenting the reader with
endless connotations to consider. Duffy also draws attention to its inability to fully express the extent
of human emotions.
Both of the above stated poems focus on societal and cultural stratification, with Duffy s use of
language carefully designed to emphasise the distance between different social groups. Selling

While Duffy again has used the word I , the context of the language in which it is employed
consequently generates a distance from Minuit. While the colonist clearly does not care to consider the
feelings of any being other than himself, the very first line of the
Indian embodies the exact opposite. Not only is the Indian seen to
wonder about the thoughts of others, more specifically, he is even contemplating how the ground is
feeling. This again creates a lucid contrast to the capitalist views of the settler, emphasising the
Indian s value in the natural earth around. The personification that
Duffy has shaped through language for the ground adds human qualities, suggesting that all
surroundings are as important as the self, even the ground that we walk upon. The Indian s esteem in
valuing, and his general respect for the natural surroundings is echoed again in the first line of his next
stanza. Here he wonders about the water s spirit . No language is evident in Peter Minuit s stanza that
would suggest a genuine concern for the spirit. Minuit does nevertheless state, Praise the Lord , which
would at first glance suggest the possession of similar principles and beliefs to the
Indian s interest in the spirit . Minuit s referral to God is however extremely cruel and entirely ironic,
with him almost joking about powers beyond his own greedy hands. It is evident that if he did in fact
with honesty Praise the Lord that he would not

Justification Public Policy
Explain the justifications for and goals of public policy, please discuss factors inherent in government
that provides opportunities for public/Government failure?
When it comes to intervention in private affairs, policy analysts should use great caution and stay
away from it. Most single decision encourages such social values as productivity and freedom. In any
case, some individual decision can be distinguished as market failures and can diminish social values
in unsurprising ways. As a result, aggregate decision practiced through government structures offers,
at any rate, the possibility of correcting the apparent insufficiencies of individual choice. Be that as it
may, similarly as individual decision now and then neglects to advance

Education, Training and Social Care Policies and Procedures
Social Care has got Policies and Procedures staff has to follow, same as in Education and Training.
Some of the Policies are :
Data Protection Act (1998) made provision for the regulation of the processing of information relating
to individuals, including the obtaining, holding, use or disclosure of such information. It was amended
in 2003 to include electronic data.
Protection of Children Act (POCA) (1999) was designed to protect children. It gives responsibility to
Local Authorities to make enquiries when anyone contacts them with concerns about child abuse.
Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (2006) introduced a vetting and barring scheme to make decision
about who should be barred from working with children and vulnerable adults. Teachers may need to
have a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB)
Equality Act (2010) replaced all previous anti discrimination legislation and consolidated in into one
act (England, Scotland and Wales). It provides rights for the people not to be discriminated against or
harassed because they have an association with a disabled person or because they were wrongly
perceived as disabled.
Health and Safety at Work 1974 imposes all staff within an organisation commensurate with other role
and responsibility. Risk assessments should be carried out where necessary. In event of accident,
particularly one resulting in death or serious injury, an investigation by Health and Safety Executive
may result in the prosecution.

Nature And Scope Of The Issue
Nature and Scope of the Issue An unfortunate reality in today s society is the gross overrepresentation
of persons with mental illness in the criminal justice system. According to Teplin (1984), persons with
mental illness have been found to be almost twice as likely as individuals without any known mental
illness to be arrested for their behavior in similar situations. Furthermore, several other studies have
even shown that roughly half of all persons with a mental illness have been arrested at least once in
their lifetime (Solomon Draine, 1995; Walsh Bricourt, 2003). Although these statistics seem to further
support the common belief among many citizens that mentally ill persons are dangerous criminals,
research indicates that the mentally ill are more often arrested for nonviolent minor charges (Cuellar,
Snowden, Ewing, 2007). Not surprisingly, a considerable portion of individuals within the criminal
justice population have a diagnosable mental illness. According to Ditton (1999), 7% of federal
inmates, 16% of state inmates, and 16% of jail inmates have a mental illness. These percentages may
be inflated because persons with mental illness tend to spend longer periods of time in custody than
those without a mental illness. Perhaps the greatest indication of the brokenness of the system is the
fact that there are more mentally ill persons in jails and prisons today than in public psychiatric
hospitals (Lamb Bachrach, 2001). In fact, according to the

Analysis Of The Transformation Of Home Depot
Organization transformation is one of the ways companies can reinvent themselves to survive a crisis.
However, organization transformations don t always work for some companies. The purpose of this
paper is to discuss the positive and negative changes that took place at Home Depot during the time
Bob Nardelli was CEO. The writer will discuss current performance and other company information.
And last, the writer will conclude with a Christian worldview regarding Home Depot s transformation
and present success. Bob Nardelli s top down approach that he was used to for so many years at
General Electric was not the path to take for Home Depot (Brown, 2011). The managers at Home
Depot were used to being independent and decentralized. They were not used to taking orders from
the corporate office. In fact, they had always made their own decisions doing what they thought would
work best for their stores. Because of Home Depot s entrepreneurial culture that they were
accustomed to for twenty two years, the stores would not survive a top down approach to change.
Moreover, a change that drastic would have to be strategically done to have any success. Nardelli,
coming from a background of structured management, failed to realize that what worked for one
organization might not work for another. Home Depot was known to have an unstructured and
entrepreneurial type of culture, entirely different from GE where Nardelli had previously worked
(Brown, 2011). Therefore,

Here Dead We Lie By Alfred Edward Housman
The poem Here dead we lie , by Alfred Edward Housman, is about young soldiers who died fighting
in the war for their country. Many soldiers died because they chose not to coward away and watch the
war from the distance. Instead they sacrificed their young life to fight. They thought there is nothing
much to lose, yet they still chose to die for their country because it was a worthy and honorable thing
to do. Perhaps by Vera Brittain is a poem dedicated to her fiancé, who was killed in the war in 1915.
She explains how time has passed, and her thoughts about getting over her fiancé s death. Many
people had lost their loved ones due to the war. Countless of soldiers die leaving their loved ones
mourning over their partner s death. While Vera s

Hillary Clinton Thesis
The Face of America Born in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A., she attended Wellesley College, then earning a
J.D. (Juris Doctor) from Yale Law School in 1973. This hardworking presidential candidate is a
woman who s been fighting for children and families for over forty years. Someone who has provided
her best works in reaching over the limits of a woman and providing millions of children with health
care. This person is Hillary Clinton, and these are the only some of the biggest accomplishments she
has made during her lifetime, there can and will be more if she gets voted as President of the United
States of 2016 2020. She has been through many experiences in government, such as being an

She is willing to take action on this situation with a gun lobby, going for reforms, banning guns from
terrorists. I m running for president to protect our families and communities from the plague of gun
violence, she told the crowd. Clinton strongly supports comprehensive background checks. Hillary s
overall goal is to reduce the number of guns going into the wrong hands, considering that it s
beginning to be the leading cause of death of many young African American men.
Clinton is introducing a comprehensive immigration reform. She will establish a complete
immigration reform that includes extensive and fair citizenship. At the same time, it will protect our
borders with a national security, and treat each citizen with admiration, welcoming millions of hard
workers who deserve to live in the economy. We should be deporting criminals, not hard working
immigrant families who do the very best they can, Clinton said. This statement can be a harder one to
debate, considering every American ancestors or families now can only have the American Dream.
Hillary believes that having an immigration reform will also create more than enough jobs for
everyone. It is very necessary for American citizens to have pride and pleasure in their

An Interview On Child Welfare
As a helping professional focused on child welfare, educational resources are essential to provide
children with adequate support. Often times, the children s advocates, caregivers and volunteers, need
assistance connecting with the school to secure social work services. There have been countless
occurrences where the child is faltering academically and the school is unaware that they are in foster
care. The teachers are overworked and unable to identity which children are in the greatest need
because there are many who struggle. Linking the advocates with social workers will help increase the
likelihood of the children s success. Increasing the awareness of the children s advocates, informing
them of the available resources, enhances their support system. An interview was conducted with a
social worker for several public schools to increase awareness of the free services offered to families
and children within the district. An interview was conducted with Ashley Fortune MSW, a school
social worker for several schools within Gilbert Public School District. Ashley Fortune received her
Bachelors in Social Work from Arizona State University, subsequently receiving her Masters in Social
Work. Throughout the duration of Mrs. Fortune s professional career, she explored various roles
within the field of social work. Post completion of her Bachelors, she worked in residential center for
people with disabilities. She provided direct care services and assisted clients with

Analysis Of Articles On The Patriots
Upon further analysis of the Herald articles on the Patriots from January 19, 2015 through the 25th,
there was a clear and cautious decision to keep journalism standards and not wanting to alienate
themselves from the already falling readership through their agenda setting and framing. In this
context, the journalistic standards being used are the ones provided by The Society of Professional
Journalists (SPJ). These standards include, seeking the truth, accuracy, context, and [being] correct.
Agenda setting is defined as the specific topics published by the Herald setting the agenda for the day
and framing, defined as the context in which the articles are written.

For example, The Herald s January 20, 2015 edition included 10 articles about the Patriots as a whole,
and of those 10, only three pertained to the Patriots cheating accusation or even mentioned the
scandal. Although there was still a limited amount of information regarding the scandal, it was one of
the hottest topics in sports. It is rather peculiar that only two the third article only sarcastically
mentions it articles were written when it s the hometown club. It should be noted that the investigation
and news were still light and it could explain the light amount of the articles mentioning deflategate.
However, it wasn t the only day. The Herald s January 24, 2015 edition had five articles pertaining to
the Patriots playing in the Super Bowl (no mention of deflategate) and only two focusing on
deflategate. However, the January 22 edition of the Herald went Deflategate heavy in content,
producing eight deflategate articles only three not related to the scandal. The heavy pro deflategate
coverage is equated to how much more information was learned on January 21st, giving the Herald the
opportunity to expand on the story without having too much to worry about from the readership. From

King Congo King Analysis
King Leopold set his focus on the Congo because he wanted to rule a colony of his own, something
bigger than just little old Belgium, and the Congo provided that. It had waterways that connected the
land, as well as people that he could use as slaves. A book that he had read titled Java, or How to
Manage a Colony had sparked Leopold s interest for a colony of his own (Hochschild, p. 37).
According to the quote, In the mid 1870s, sub Saharan Africa was a logical place for an aspiring
colonialist to look...about 80% of the entire land area of Africa was still under indigenous rulers. It
was ripe for conquest or, as Leopold was now learning to say, for protection (Hochschild, p. 42), this
land was an opportunity for Leopold to finally build a colony; especially after Stanley had found the
Congo River during an expedition. Leopold s purpose was shaped by a desire not only for money but
for power (Hochschild, p. 39). The Congo s resources were rubber and ivory, ivory was made into
false teeth, or piano pieces, among other things and this produced a lot of profits once sold. However,
the profits for rubber were much higher than that of ivory. The land itself provides the power that
Leopold wanted. Leopold was successful in the sense that he did become the ruler of the Congo, he
did gain profits out it, he did have slaves that built railways, as well as an army made majority of its
own people, the natives. Leopold failed in the sense that he thought the truth would never come to

Palm Oil And Heart Disease
What is the relationship between rates of consumption of palm oil and incidence of heart disease? A
huge niche in the grocery market is occupied by products designed to stay fresh for surprisingly long
periods of time, such as cookies, chips, chocolate, which have some type of vegetable oil incorporated
in them . We consume these snacks everyday, they are always in demand. Previously, sunflower oil
was one of the most popular oils to be used. It is relatively expensive, but harmless to some extent.
Not so long ago palm oil became a well known component in many market products intended for
consumption. It is ideal for baking, as well as for confectionery, especially those that are designed for
long term storage. It will improve the appearance

  • 2. Roman Catholic Church Part 2 Summary Part 2: The two big splits in 1054, resulted in the Roman catholic church breaking into separate branches. One being the Eastern Orthodox Catholics, and the other being the Roman Catholics who belong in the West. The separation had been influenced by Germanic tribes invading across Europe and the effect plunged the whole of Europe in the Dark Ages . A mixture of many political, social, cultural, economic, theological, linguistic differences caused a split in the Roman church. Within the whole church, there were only five patriarchs. They were spread out mainly in the east (Antioch, Alexandria, Jerusalem and Byzantium) which all spoke Greek and were also located in the west of Rome, with their principal language Latin. Both of these two sides could not read nor have any access to the writings of the theologians on the opposite side as the western theology was supported by a small number of Latin theologians, whereas the east focused on Greek theology. With all the lack of agreement and contrast, it had been the substructure for the Great Schism. Part 3: Traveling 500 years forward ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. The Similarities Of Mother Teresa And Angelina Jolie Who do you look up to? Many different people are considered an inspiration for many different reasons. When looking at Mother Teresa and Angelina Jolie, you may not immediately see a whole lot of similarities. The things that come to my mind when I think of them is their fame or popularity, their way of inspiring thousands, and the controversy behind their names. Their popularity may be the biggest thing they share. They are hugely known all around the world, although their popularity may be more well known to more past generations compared to the newer ones. Mother Teresa is known for her catholic religion and her devotion to it. When she was just eighteen she felt the desire to become a missionary, in September 1928 she took off to fulfill that dream. On May 24, 1937 she made her final vows to her religion and after that she was called Mother Teresa. She traveled the world spreading word of love and her religion. She s helped many in need, this is how she got her popularity. Angelina Jolie began her study of theatre at age eleven, five years later she started modeling and was in a few music videos. Her big launch into fame was in 1999 in the movie The Bone Collector . As you can see they made their way to fame in two pretty different ways, but they actually are well known for one thing in common. They are both humanitarians. Angelina Jolie became interested in humanitarian work after her first adoption from Cambodia in 2002. She adopted three kids overall, and shares three with her now divorced husband, Brad Pitt. Mother Teresa became dedicated humanitarian work after her final vows. Both were born and raised with influence in their legacies. With fame comes inspiration. Both women traveled the world, although for different reasons both gained knowledge from their travels. Mother Teresa met many in need of help while spreading the word of love from Jesus. If you look up Mother Teresa it is likely you will find the webpage dedicated to her, on this page you will find many testimonies from lots of people, whether they knew her personally, admired her, or were helped by her. She has lived a life devoted to her religion, and when her question of faith was released to the public many found it admirable and saw ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To determine the opportunity cost of capital, Marriott required three inputs: debt capacity, debt cost, and equity cost consistent with the amount of debt. The cost of capital depends on each division. In fact the evaluation of the WACC is an appropriate tool to calculate the cost of capital for the corporation as a whole and for each division. The cost of equity One of the two major component of WACC is the cost of equity. The cost of equity model takes into account three values which we must calculate a risk free rate (rf), risk premium rate (expected market return rf), and Beta Value. Before doing the calculations, we will justify our choices. We based it on the Stocks, Bonds, Bills and Inflation (SBBI). This workmanship is a standard reference source for business appraisers. It has been published annually since 1983. The beta value As it is said in the case, we already know the equity beta (0,97). But the capital structure (leverage) affects beta estimates. In order to eliminate the effect of leverage, we will calculate the asset beta, which reflects the sensitivity of the firm s assets abstracting from capital structure. That is why we have to convert the equity beta into the asset beta. Then we can calculate the equity beta without the leverage effect. To calculate the asset beta, we need the current debt value. The ratio D/V for the company is set at 41% so we can find the ratio E/V is set at 59%. It comes from the exhibit 3 which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While many companies are using the opportunity of search engines and social media as hiring tools for future employees, personal branding has become a crucial part of the hiring process. Developing a Personal Brand One of the most important aspects of developing a personal brand is differentiating between important terminologies within the branding spectrum. the first step begins by establishing a brand identity and communicating that through brand positioning to a specific target audience. Brand identity is defined as how the marketer wants the brand to be perceived, Brand positioning uses that specific brand identity to differentiate the person from other candidates within their target audience by highlighting important values and aspects of the brand identity. The brand image is then noted as a reflection of the person from their audience. This reaction is generally based on visible behavior, nonverbal behavior, and other observable cues. • 9. Levitt And Dubner s Freakonomics In Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything, the authors, Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, explore and analyze highly charged economic subjects. The authors take well known topics, such as popular culture, and analyze them from an economic standpoint, in ways that may have not been thought of before. However, these diverse and controversial topics are presented in such a way that does not offend the reader. Levitt and Dubner achieve the delicate balance between the offensive and non offensive by using an unconventional combination of tone, language, phrasing, syntax, and repetition. An important part of the book is the way the tone is set. The authors discuss complicated and occasionally controversial topics, but the narration uses a casual tone, which is unexpected for a book about economics. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, James case of spastic cerebral palsy alters the interaction between the musculoskeletal and nervous system in some areas which are affected. Case Examination James condition of spastic cerebral palsy impacts the regulation of muscle tone due to the effect of spinal reflexes when muscles are slightly contracted (Ballard, F., 2016). Muscle tone is dependent on the release of alpha motor neurons in the spinal cord (Albright, A.L., 1995). This is regulated when there is a balance between excitatory impulses and inhibitory impulses. James condition of cerebral palsy indicates that there is an imbalance between excitatory impulses and inhibitory impulses. The imbalance between these impulses causes a lack in regulation of muscle tone due to the insufficient release of alpha motor neurons in the spinal cord (Albright, A.L., 1995). James excess production of excitatory impulses originates in the golgi tendons of organs and muscle spindle, a specialised sensory receptor in the muscle (Albright, A.L., 1995). The impulse then passes through afferent nerves into the spinal cord and releases excitatory neurotransmitters. In contrast, the lack of ability to generate inhibitory impulses suggest that the regions of the brain responsible for the generation of inhibitory impulses including the basal ganglia, brain stem and cerebellum may be damaged (Albright, A.L., 1995). Consequently, the excess of excitatory impulses may result in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Corruption of British Rule and Imperialism: The killing of an Elephant Shooting an Elephant explores the parallels between Britain s imperialism and a British officer s moral quandary with killing an elephant. Shooting an Elephant takes place in 1920 s Burma which is now known as Myanmar. At this time Burma had lost a sixty year fight with Britain and was under British rule. The Burmese people and the British officers that keep them in line are in a constant state of tension with each other. • 18. Cathedral Essay Cathedral Sometimes we have to look beyond what we see on the outside to understand something more deeply. In the short story Cathedral By Raymond Carver, the narrator has an attitude of being selfish, and jealous through the story. The narrator s wife invites a blind man, Robert, to come stay in their house for a short time while the man visits family members of his own wife who recently passed. The narrator is not enthusiastic because blind people make the narrator uncomfortable, mainly because the narrator has no real experience with the blind. In addition, to his uneasiness with the blind the narrator is uncomfortable with the relationship his wife and the blind man have. The wife and Robert, the blind man, have maintained a close ... When the narrator makes this assumption it shows that he doesn t know the difference between seeing and understanding something more deeply for the true meaning. When Robert first arrives, things are a little awkward. The narrator isn t sure what to say to Robert. As the night goes on they share many drinks, eat dinner, and even smoke some dope. Even the simple concept of smoking weed was one of the first real connections the narrator and Robert had. The narrator, seeing that Robert wanted to smoke some dope with him might have made him feel more comfortable and think Robert as just an normal, easy going man. Once the wife falls asleep on the couch, we begin to see how Robert begins to open up the narrators eyes. Robert is an insightful and compassionate man who takes the time to truly listen to others , which helps him to see them better than he could with his eyes. These are qualities that the narrator is strongly lacking which start to inspire him to change. The only thing on television is a documentary about cathedrals the narrator wonders if Robert knows what a cathedral looks like so he asks him. Roberts asks him to describe the cathedral for him, because he can t picture one. I stared hard at the shot of the cathedral on the TV. How could I even begin to describe it? But say my life ... • 19. Capital as a Factor of Production and the Capital Theory... 1.1. Capital as a factor of production and the capital theory debates Beginning in the mid 1950s and for the following twenty years or so, a debate concerning the neoclassical treatment of capital turned apparent in the discipline. This gave rise to a series of exchanges between scholars associated with Cambridge, England, and Cambridge, Massachusetts, (US). This debate is broadly known in the literature as the Cambridge capital theory controversies . The relevance of this controversy lies in that the criticisms of neoclassical theory raised by Cambridge (UK) concern both the theoretical illegitimacy of measuring capital as a single magnitude in value terms to determine prices and distribution, and the foundational premise underlying the dominant supply and demand approach: the factor substitution principle. In the controversies it has been shown that this principle cannot in general be posited to explain the distribution of the social product in terms of supply and demand. This result, discovered by means of the analysis of the relation between prices and distribution in economies with heterogeneous capital goods, has been revealed as theoretically irrefutable, and, as this study will argue, concerns the hard core of the neoclassical or marginal theory both in its traditional (capital measured in value terms) and in its contemporary formulations (capital as a set of heterogeneous goods). Capital as a single magnitude has been the treatment on which, under conditions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Concentration Of Sucrose Lab Report Choudhury Asif Ibne Yusuf Lab Section 1 Using different concentrations of sucrose affecting movement of water in and out of dialysis tube to find the concentration of an unknown solution Introduction This experiments attempts to find how different concentrations of sucrose affect the amount of osmosis that occurs in a dialysis tubing and finally to find concentration of the unknown sucrose solution. The dialysis tubing represents a cell with a semi permeable membrane therefore water with along with some other substances are able to move. A gradient is exist when there is an uneven distributions. The higher concentrations of sucrose, more water will move inside the dialysis tubes at a faster rate. Therefore dialysis bag with higher concentrations of sucrose will have greater difference in mass over time and thus a greater rate of osmosis. The variables were controlled by keeping the amount of sucrose concentration to be at 20 ml and the distilled water to be at 200 ml. Weight balance was covered to stop letting the air affect the weight of each bags. Although the data supports my hypothesis, there has been outliers. For example, in the control group there happens to be osmosis going on but at a smaller rate than the other concentrations. This wasn t supposed to happen because due to isotonic nature of solution. This might have been due to excess water in dialysis bag. Since this experiment heavily relies on the handling of the experiments, errors could have easily occurred. The dialysis might not have been properly dried. One of the example of this 2% sucrose having 21.4 grams at 30 minutes from 21.9 grams at 20 minutes. The air conditioner could have affected the results during the data collection phase although steps were taken to prevent this from happening. Not having the same experimenter for the dialysis bag might have affected the results. Not tying the dental floss tightly may have caused the loss in mass for certain bags. Errors could have occurred from the time it took to out the bag from the distilled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Analysis Of Peter Singer s Argument On Famine, Affluence,... I m a strong believer in that anyone can make their own choices in life. There is no such thing as moral obligation in my books, however there does exist courtesy or kind heartedness. Peter Singer s argument regarding famine, affluence, and morality is, in my opinion, strongly influenced by sympathetic and empathetic feelings based on observations in a still developing country. In a sense, his reasoning is subjective and biased because he seems to focus only on the problem, and not the circumstances that could have prevented such problems from the beginning. I will elaborate on some of the loopholes in his arguments, and further clarify why the more fortunate people (in terms of wealth) should NOT be morally obligated to help the poor, rather they should have the choice of being courteous or kind, and they should have the freedom to spend the money they worked so hard for according to their own agenda. To start, I would like to establish that suffering and death from lack of food and other necessities is indeed a bad thing. There is no counter argument to that statement. However, the problem lies in the second and third premises, which states that (2) if it is in our power to prevent something bad from happening, then we have a moral duty to do it; (3) therefore, we have a moral duty to help the poor. According to Singer, the second premise is comprised of a strong and weak argument. The strong argument states that the wealthy people should help the poor people at a ... While most people try to explain happiness with philosophy, I will be writing more about the medical and scientific aspect of happiness. There are two schools of thought on happiness, first one being social happiness and the second one being solitary happiness with me learning towards the former over the ladder. Medically, happiness comes down to a handful of chemicals (also called neurotransmitters) in the brain and if you are happy or not it comes down to the levels of these chemicals in the brain. Endocannabinoids or also known as the bliss chemical, contrary to popular belief adrenaline is not a cause of runner s high as it can not cross the blood brain barrier but endocannabinoids levels are elevated after a run suggesting that endocannabinoids are the cause of runner s high. This is in the same group of chemicals that cannabis THC is in. The Endocannabinoid system is not found in all animals, it is mainly found in mammals most notable humans and canines. Not very well known but this is main feel good neurotransmitter. The reward neurotransmitter called dopamine is the chemical that causes you to feel good after you reach a set goal you have made. Beverly Daniel Tatum, an author of several books including Why Are Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria asks, How did academic achievement become defined as exclusively white behavior? Tatum has an interesting point, however stereotyping is not just about race it can be about gender bias, or body issues too. Ann DuCille, author of From Multicultural Barbie and the Merchandising of Difference says; Barbie s body is a consumer object itself a vehicle for display of clothing and spectacular trappings of a wealthy teenage fantasy life . Ducille gives a good example of body politics, and the importance of not only focusing on race. Thus, is a good example of how stereotypes are learned by how one is treated in school or at home. Education about racial identity, gender equality, and body shaming, to an extent, will help eliminate some forms of stereotyping and create a more understanding and equal society. Therefore schools are not the problem, stereotypes, however racist, sexist, or just plain mean, are learned at home and in schools from peers, parents and teachers alike. • 36. The Evolution Of Tourism Since the beginning of human civilization in the world, travelling has been an ongoing event. The early humans travelled for hunting and food gathering. Later, as society evolved, travelling became more prominent but became limited to trade, pilgrimage, studies, migration, royal affairs and exploration, rather than for pleasure and entertainment. From this knowledge it is evident that travelling is part of human nature but tourism is a process and activities of a new and moderately recent phenomenon. The evolution of tourism can be divided into three phases. The First Phase This beginning phase can be referred to as tourism before railways which represent the period before 1840 where travelling was primarily undertaken for the purpose of trade and pilgrimage. In the medieval period (12 17th century), the Europeans had different notions of travelling. According to their belief, if someone did not visit any new places in one s own lifetime, they were highly neglected in the society. So, every individual was supposed to visit at least Italy, as Rome was recognized as their place of origin and a religious shrine too. This reveals that the nature of tour was spiritually oriented. But towards the late medieval period, the reason for travel drastically changed as most people started to travel abroad for the purpose of receiving higher education during this period. The Aristocrats of the Europe used to send their children abroad for attaining higher education. This kind of tourism is called Proto Tourism . In the 18th century, the motive for travelling took a drastic change again. During this period sick people started to undertake travel to spa for those days, Nice in France, Baden in Germany and Carlsberg in Czechoslovakia were very popular for a spa in Europe. Gradually, the way of taking mineral water and spa was changed to coastal areas where people believed that after taking a bath in the sea, they would get recovered. From this, the sea bathing concept emerged. Due to the increase of tourists visiting coastal areas, there became a dire need to build and as a result resorts started to emerge in such destinations. When drawing from both Warming Her Pearls and Selling Manhattan , it is evident that Carol Anne Duffy maintains a certain avant garde approach to the vast array of possibilities that language presents. She acutely exposes the ambiguity that language holds in its meanings, presenting the reader with endless connotations to consider. Duffy also draws attention to its inability to fully express the extent of human emotions. Both of the above stated poems focus on societal and cultural stratification, with Duffy s use of language carefully designed to emphasise the distance between different social groups. Selling Manhattan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Duffy again has used the word I , the context of the language in which it is employed consequently generates a distance from Minuit. While the colonist clearly does not care to consider the feelings of any being other than himself, the very first line of the Indian embodies the exact opposite. Not only is the Indian seen to wonder about the thoughts of others, more specifically, he is even contemplating how the ground is feeling. This again creates a lucid contrast to the capitalist views of the settler, emphasising the Indian s value in the natural earth around. The personification that Duffy has shaped through language for the ground adds human qualities, suggesting that all surroundings are as important as the self, even the ground that we walk upon. The Indian s esteem in valuing, and his general respect for the natural surroundings is echoed again in the first line of his next stanza. Here he wonders about the water s spirit . No language is evident in Peter Minuit s stanza that would suggest a genuine concern for the spirit. Minuit does nevertheless state, Praise the Lord , which would at first glance suggest the possession of similar principles and beliefs to the Indian s interest in the spirit . Minuit s referral to God is however extremely cruel and entirely ironic, with him almost joking about powers beyond his own greedy hands. It is evident that if he did in fact with honesty Praise the Lord that he would not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When it comes to intervention in private affairs, policy analysts should use great caution and stay away from it. Most single decision encourages such social values as productivity and freedom. In any case, some individual decision can be distinguished as market failures and can diminish social values in unsurprising ways. As a result, aggregate decision practiced through government structures offers, at any rate, the possibility of correcting the apparent insufficiencies of individual choice. • 43. Nature And Scope Of The Issue Nature and Scope of the Issue An unfortunate reality in today s society is the gross overrepresentation of persons with mental illness in the criminal justice system. According to Teplin (1984), persons with mental illness have been found to be almost twice as likely as individuals without any known mental illness to be arrested for their behavior in similar situations. Furthermore, several other studies have even shown that roughly half of all persons with a mental illness have been arrested at least once in their lifetime (Solomon Draine, 1995; Walsh Bricourt, 2003). Although these statistics seem to further support the common belief among many citizens that mentally ill persons are dangerous criminals, research indicates that the mentally ill are more often arrested for nonviolent minor charges (Cuellar, Snowden, Ewing, 2007). Not surprisingly, a considerable portion of individuals within the criminal justice population have a diagnosable mental illness. According to Ditton (1999), 7% of federal inmates, 16% of state inmates, and 16% of jail inmates have a mental illness. These percentages may be inflated because persons with mental illness tend to spend longer periods of time in custody than those without a mental illness. Perhaps the greatest indication of the brokenness of the system is the fact that there are more mentally ill persons in jails and prisons today than in public psychiatric hospitals (Lamb Bachrach, 2001). In fact, according to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Analysis Of The Transformation Of Home Depot Organization transformation is one of the ways companies can reinvent themselves to survive a crisis. However, organization transformations don t always work for some companies. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the positive and negative changes that took place at Home Depot during the time Bob Nardelli was CEO. The writer will discuss current performance and other company information. And last, the writer will conclude with a Christian worldview regarding Home Depot s transformation and present success. Bob Nardelli s top down approach that he was used to for so many years at General Electric was not the path to take for Home Depot (Brown, 2011). The managers at Home Depot were used to being independent and decentralized. They were not used to taking orders from the corporate office. In fact, they had always made their own decisions doing what they thought would work best for their stores. Because of Home Depot s entrepreneurial culture that they were accustomed to for twenty two years, the stores would not survive a top down approach to change. Moreover, a change that drastic would have to be strategically done to have any success. Nardelli, coming from a background of structured management, failed to realize that what worked for one organization might not work for another. Home Depot was known to have an unstructured and entrepreneurial type of culture, entirely different from GE where Nardelli had previously worked (Brown, 2011). Therefore, ... • 49. King Congo King Analysis King Leopold set his focus on the Congo because he wanted to rule a colony of his own, something bigger than just little old Belgium, and the Congo provided that. It had waterways that connected the land, as well as people that he could use as slaves. A book that he had read titled Java, or How to Manage a Colony had sparked Leopold s interest for a colony of his own (Hochschild, p. 37). According to the quote, In the mid 1870s, sub Saharan Africa was a logical place for an aspiring colonialist to look...about 80% of the entire land area of Africa was still under indigenous rulers. It was ripe for conquest or, as Leopold was now learning to say, for protection (Hochschild, p. 42), this land was an opportunity for Leopold to finally build a colony; especially after Stanley had found the Congo River during an expedition. Leopold s purpose was shaped by a desire not only for money but for power (Hochschild, p. 39). The Congo s resources were rubber and ivory, ivory was made into false teeth, or piano pieces, among other things and this produced a lot of profits once sold. However, the profits for rubber were much higher than that of ivory. The land itself provides the power that Leopold wanted. Leopold was successful in the sense that he did become the ruler of the Congo, he did gain profits out it, he did have slaves that built railways, as well as an army made majority of its own people, the natives. Leopold failed in the sense that he thought the truth would never come to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
