Abstract Learning: understanding of different ideas and phenomena and how they work together;
learning by looking at patterns and similarities between different things. Focus on deeper meaning
rather than individual thoughts.
Example 1: A study by Jennifer Vonk of Oakland University demonstrated in a study that various
primates, such as orangutans and gorillas, are capable of abstract thinking. The primates were shown a
picture of an animal, e.g. a snake. They were then shown two animal pictures: one from the same
group (e.g. another reptile) and one from a different group (e.g. a bird). The primates were rewarded

Tolman. Rats were put into a maze and split into three groups: group 1 received food at the end, group
2 received nothing, and group 3 received no food for the first ten days and food at the end on the
eleventh. Group 1 rats finished the maze quickly, group 2 rats wandered around the maze, and group 3
rats demonstrated similar behavior as group 2 rats until the eleventh day, when they learned to rush
through the maze as quickly as group 1. Group 3 rats thus showed latent learning by using the
knowledge they gained without the incentive (wandering around) to finish the maze much more
quickly.
Example 2: A study done by Harold Stevenson on children. Children were motivated to explore
irrelevant objects to open a box. When the experiment was repeated, the children were able to identify
objects that they had previously seen (not used) more quickly than before, demonstrating latent
learning. This ability increased with age.

Essay About Fairy Tales
Introduction As a child, I am fond of fairy tales. In fact, my night would not be complete without my
mother reading me a fairy tale story before going to sleep. One of my favorite fairy tale stories, for
instance, is the story of Aladdin. As a child, it amazes me to think that I have a genie friend who can
give me anything I want. I was thinking about wishing for a castle full of chocolates and goodies and
imagine myself riding that magic carpet while sneaking up on the houses of my friends. Fairy tales
gave me wonderful experience as a child, which I believe enhanced my creativity and imagination.
Some fairy tales are meant to give children life s lessons while others are purely for entertainment
purposes. In my young age, I do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some scholars believe that as soon as humans were able to speak, they might have already formulated
their own version of fairy tales in their story telling (Evolution of Storytelling and Fairly Tales, n.d.).
Apparently, fairy tales are deeply embedded in human culture that it can be found even in the earliest
writings of the Aryans and the Hindus (Bunce, 1878). The early Greeks Iliad and Odyssey as well as
the early Anglo Saxons Beowulf are just a few examples of folk tales that have been told until today.
Although these stories are not meant for children, these folk tales laid the foundations of today s
modern fairy tales (Anderson, 2006). Most likely, every culture has their own version of fairy tale,
which could have evolved from the folk tales of their ancient pasts. Modern fairy tales combines the
elements of fables and fantasy in order to instruct moral values. Among the most common are Snow
White, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beasts, The Frog Prince, Pinocchio and many other fairy tales of
such genre, which highlights moral values such as goodness, loyalty and honesty. On the other hand,
some modern fairy tales such as Alice s Adventures in Wonderland are purely entertaining without the
need for moral emphasis (Anderson,

The Chesapeake Bay
Scene in Fig. 1.1., the Chesapeake Bay is substantial in size; at roughly 64,000 miles, it contains
roughly fifty rivers and thousands of streams and creeks. It encompasses parts of 6 states, including all
of Washington, DC. The Chesapeake Bay is what is known as a watershed, an area that contributes to
the drainage to a water body, stream, river, lake or ocean. Rainwater that falls within the 64,000 square
miles that is the Chesapeake Bay will subsequently travel through many streams and rivers, eventually
making its way into the largest estuary system in the United States.
The Estuary System
An estuary system is the resulting collisions of sweet and salt fresh river water flowing seaward and
ocean water inland. It is an aquatic system where salt and freshwater are constantly mixing. An
estuary system is one of most active systems of the planet; it is a hybrid system that contains the best
and worst qualities of the ocean, river, and lake systems it conglomerates. Estuaries are unique in
nature because of their ability to be the most productive ecosystem on the entire planet; humans have
attempted and failed to reach the productivity that estuaries naturally grant. There productivity lies it
the constant change that occurs from the conflicting flows of fresh and ocean water. Ocean and
freshwater are measured largely based on salinity, or the level of parts of salt per thousand. Ocean
water usually has around 35 parts per thousands of salt water, while freshwater

Double Media In Social Media
Social media is the 21st century s way of connecting to others, especially in the technologically
dominated society that 2017 is. Social media platforms, such as Instagram and Snapchat, although
different ways of interacting allows for those that use it to connect with celebrities such as Serena
Williams. Serena Williams, although an active and dominating tennis player still maintains contact
and connections to her audience through multiple social media platforms. However, when analyzing
her social media platforms, her activity is shown to differ depending on the platform. Williams often
uses her Instagram for marketing, her ideals, and promotion while her Snapchat is centered on her
daily routine and life. Therefore, in my essay a holistic analyzation of Williams Snapchat versus her
Instagram is presented in that celebrity social media is shown to represent more than just pictures but
concepts of self representation and double consciousness.
Serena Williams Instagram upon first glance is shown to reflect a typical user, in that it has her
friends, dogs, self ideals, and selfies throughout the page. However, once analyzed further reflects
something that Williams Snapchat does better at concealing, double consciousness. Double
consciousness is defined as individual sensation of feeling as though your identity is divided into
several parts.... (Kristen) Du Bois said this of double consciousness in Of Our Spiritual Striving a
peculiar sensation, this double consciousness,

Dual Tasking And Cognitive Tasks
Dual tasking is the simultaneous execution of two tasks, (McArdle, 2015) these tasks include two
elementary cognitive tasks (ECT), or secondary tasks. ECTs are basic tasks which require a small
number of mental processes (Caroll, 1993.) Dual tasking is the combination of two ECTs. Main
cognitive functions, utilised in ECTs, are affected during the process of dual tasking specifically in
executive function and attention. Executive function includes complex mental processes such as:
problem solving, planning and dual tasking as shown in a study by Zelazo (2002.) Attention includes
mental processes such as the ability to concentrate on people; actions, objects and restraint from
impulsive actions. This cognitive function, along with executive ... Show more content on

This refers to focusing on one task until it is completed, rather than sharing attention to another task
and simultaneously trying to complete both (Jayne, 2006.) Patients inflicted with PD, which are
subject to dual task conditions, are seen with an increase in festinating steps and a worsened state of
bradykinesia. In other words; an increased amount of shuffling steps and a slower pace of gait (Brauer,
et al. 2011.) Furthermore, patients with the disorder whilst dual tasking demonstrate: increased
variability in step length and width, leading to asymmetry in gait, and frequent motor blocks compared
to walking alone (Yogev, Plotnik, Peretz, Giladi, Hausdorff, 2007; Spildooren, et al. 2010; Bloem,
Valkenburg, Slabbekoorn, Dijk, 2001.) Therefore, it can be argued that gait present in PD worsens
once a patient is subject to dual tasking

Realism Vs Classical Realism
Realism is considered the most leading school of thought in international relations, as realism is also
one of the oldest and most entrenched theories of International Relations (Steans, Pettiford, Diez El
Anis 2013, p. 53). All realist share a perspective that states are unitary rational actors that are
encouraged by the desire for military power and security rather than principles or ethics. Realists view
human nature as self seeking, conflictual and competitive and consider that states are inherently
violent as realism values order and does not welcome change. There are several forms of realism such
as, structural, neo and classical, however this essay will focus on classical realism, its key theorists, its
strength and weakness and how my view on international politics has changed over the course of this
unit.
Classical realism is a theory of international relations that was founded in the post world war 2 time
that pursues to explain international politics as a result of human nature. Classical realism is also a
state level theory that argues that all states seek power, which is driven by desire to achieve national
interests. Classical realists concentrate on two areas of politics; restrictions imposed by human self
interest such as, egoism and anarchy in the absence of international government (Donnelly 2013, p.
32). Power is the key concept for realists and they argue that to survive, states must increase their
power by internal development such as in the economic

Persuasive Essay Wrestling
Many argue that wrestling should be excluded out of the olympics. Some say wrestling is a boring
sport to watch, unhealthy, causes injuries and leads to children being violent. I find this to be very
false. I think that wrestling is one of the most important sports, mentally physically and just all
around. Wrestling is a sport that creates character and has children and young adults working hard for
what they want to achieve.
As a wrestler myself, I want to be the best I can be. Therefor I have to commit to it. Employers often
look to hire wrestlers because we are dedicated and do anything we need to do to the best of our
ability. If a wrestler chose to be a ditch digger for a living, he would be the best and most dedicated
ditch digger ever.

I cut back on high calorie, sugary foods. I also eat healthier and drink more water to stay hydrated. I
condition myself so i won t be tired during matches, so that means lots of running, which is great for
anybody. When wrestlers cut weight to drop to a lower weight class, it s not the sports fault, it s
simply the determination brought on by the athlete.
Some say that wrestling also influences kids to be aggressive or have anger issues. Studies show that
kids who wrestle tend be be more calm and also more caring than any regular person. I personally let
everything out at practice so I don t take it out on other people outside of the training room. Wrestling
gets things off of my mind and all you re really focused on every day during those few hours at
practice mis getting better at something you love to do.
Wrestling is one of the oldest sports known to man. It was also the first sport to be brought into the
olympics in Ancient Greece. To cut out the oldest sport known to man out of the olympics is
unthinkable. Most importantly, wrestling teaches self respect, self control, self confidence, self

Research Paper On Cuban Embargo
It is said that President John F. Kennedy secured nearly 1,200 Cuban cigars just hours before enacting
the Cuban trade embargo in 1962. Many Americans probably wished they could have done this before
all trade between the United States and Cuba ceased as the United States now marks the 55th year of
an ongoing embargo against Cuba. On February 3, 1962 President Kennedy signed Proclamation 3447
to declare an embargo against all trade between the United States and Cuba. This embargo consists of
trade, travel, and commerce restrictions for all people and companies under United States jurisdiction.
The United States cut off all ties with this neighboring nation just ninety miles off the coast of Florida.
This was Kennedy s defense against communism, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What do these countries have to do with Cuba? While despite these countries records of human rights
violations and differing governments, the United States continues trade, travel and commerce with all
of these nations. Wayne Smith explains how former President George W. Bush lifted trade sanctions
on North Korea in 2008 even amidst concerns about the nations desire to develop nuclear weapons
(Smith, Wayne). Cuba has tried to meet the high standards of the United States with no avail. After the
CDA was passed in 1992, Havana initiated a number of reform measures in 1993, permitting farmers
markets and small private enterprises, including private restaurants and repair shops, use of the U.S.
dollar as legal daily tender, and more favorable terms for foreign investment. Americans are allowed
to travel to other communist countries, nations known for human rights violations, and even places on

Measuring Gross Income Data Is A Measure Of Economic Welfare
Evaluate the extent to which Gross Income Data is a measure of economic welfare.
Morven Chan
Economic welfare is defined as the level prosperity and financial satisfaction of participants in an
economy. Economic welfare can often be assessed through statistics such as the level of employment.
National income statistics is defined as the value of goods and services produced in an economic
system over a period of time. National Income can be broken down into four different parts which
include Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Gross National Product (GNP), GDP per capita, and GNP per
capita. National Income is used for variety of purposes in our economy. Firstly, national income
statistics are important in that most of the government s future ... Show more content on

Therefore as is shown through the expenditure method, the equation for GDP becomes:
GDP=C+G+I+(X M)
Looking at the equation we can see that the issue arises that from the equation, there is absolutely no
calculation which addresses the economic welfare of the people and thus, as an economic indicator
GDP excels, but as a welfare indicator, this could suggest that it may not be the best choice. Gross
national product of a specific country is the sum of the goods and services produced by citizens of a
country domestically and the output from external sources which are owned/part of the specific
country. The symbol used to represent gross national product is GNP and the equation for the GNP can
be simply written as:
GNP=GDP+Net property income from abroad
GNP and GDP per capita are the values for GDP and GNP divided by the population of the country.
They give an average value for the output of product per individual in the country. Before looking at
the cons of national income statistics, we must first note that there are redeeming points to using
national income. For one, national income does a very good job of representing growth in the
economy. However as we know economic growth is not necessarily always a positive thing.
The issue with wealth distribution is one of the many reasons why national income

The Government Protecting Citizens from Corruption
Introduction The fundamental ground of our democracy is The First Amendment that gives its citizens
the promise of freedom of expression. The First Amendment may be seen as a concept of basic
freedom, which carries the idea that it, is more important to practice rather than to protect it.
Regardless if a person is liberal or conservative, Republican or Democrat, the role within the United
States government is to carry out essential responsibilities its citizens cannot perform. The United
States citizens are responsible of electing politicians into government positions to solve the problems
the country faces. One of those problems is corruption.
The power of money is at the center of political corruption and even though fraud has been in
existence for a long time, in recent years it has become a lot worse. In the past when politicians sought
to run for office each individual had to raise a few thousand dollars, businesses in the past were
smaller, manageable and the risk factors were minimal. Currently political contributions run in the
millions, making Washington a booming business. Most of the money that is raised goes to lobbyist,
campaign aids, deceiving PR operations, and pretentious grass roots groups. The American citizens
have felt the repercussion with the political and lobbying establishments who are now in control of the
public debates and the policy making process all for the benefit of the well financed special interest
groups. My paper will focus on how the

Summary
France and Brazil have shown to have different economies, but are both significant contributors in the
global economy. The two countries are active and of importance to international trade, and although
France has more access to the European Markets, Brazil has an opportunity in the international
markets. The opportunity comes because Brazil has high interest rates, which investors will probably
find attractive. There are differences in the economic profiles of the two countries and also
similarities. One of the differences is in the government s role in international affairs, where, the
French government plays minimal roles, whereas the Brazilian government plays a significant role in
terms of policy making. Because of this the expansionary monetary policy put in place failed to realise
the anticipated economic growth. The fiscal policies are also similar; while Brazil has experienced a
fiscal restraint, France has followed parts of the EU fiscal stability to achieve economic stability.
Despite this the two countries, for the

Crips And Bloods Film Summary
The second film directed by Stacy Peralta that I have scene is Crips and Bloods: Made in America.
Just like his other documentary films, this film takes a historical perspective. I was introduced to this
film last month when we were covering historical documentaries. I believe that I had seen parts of this
documentary but I had never watched the entire film until now. Crips and Bloods: Made in America
was released in 2008 and explores the origins of the Crips and Bloods, two of the most prominent
gangs found all over America. The films run time is about the same as Dogtown and Z Boys, at ninety
three minutes. Forest Whitaker is the narrator for this film. Instead of just focuses on the gangs and
their impact, the film focuses on the different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This technique might be associated with Peralta s authorship, but I have not seen enough of his films
to determine that. I also noticed the sped up interview sections in this film as well. I believe that the
fancy editing and animations are to meant to keep the viewer interested by presenting the message in a
visually compelling way to hold the audience s attention. In order for the filmmakers to understand
how each group worked on a very personal level, they had to immerse themselves in the scenes
directly. Before beginning production, Peralta spent months hanging in these neighborhoods
WITHOUT a camera, trying to establish relationships and gain peoples trust, as well as looking for
interviewees. This effort is shown when Peralta can get some of these guys to open up and talk about
things that they would not normally talk about. Patience and communication were absolutely critical
in achieving that level of trust. He is not telling the stories from his perspective, because he did not
experience it. Instead, he is giving a platform to these gang members and member of the community to
share their opinions and beliefs. There were also people questioning Peralta s credibility, suggesting
that a white former surfer/skateboarder has no type of relation to the gang culture of South Central La
and that he does not fit to tell the story. People also criticized the film because they think that it is an
exaggeration of what was/is really going on in South Central LA. Another concern was that this film is
one sided and depicts the police, institutions and organizations as the culprits for why our black
communities have suffered thanks to gang violence. The film did not really mention anything about
the mechanics of the gang lifestyle. Why not? I do think that there could have been some information
included about the structure of the gangs and their daily

• Explain How The Device And Procedures Support The Body...
How does the device and procedures support the role of the body systems?
The artificial heart supports the body just like a normal heart would, pumping blood around the body.
The artificial hearts are used when the original heart is damaged and needs time to recover. The
artificial heart can replace the function of the person s original heart for either a short period of time
while a donor heart is being sort or for the duration of the person s life. Why is the device needed?
The device is needed when a person s heart fails to operate correctly. A person needing an artificial
heart would be extremely ill that is they would not be able to function like an everyday person. E.g.
walking.
People, who receive artificial hearts, fall into two categories being bridge or destination. The bridge
group, are those people who would most likely die waiting for a suitable donor heart. The destination
group are those patients who s body would not suit a donor heart transplant but would benefit in
additional years lived from an artificial heart.

There are two types of artificial hearts, the first being a pump that is connected to the patient s
circulatory system; it maintains life when the patient s heart is stopped for the surgeons to be able to

patient s chest cavity. This second type of heart is known as a VAD pump which pumps blood from
the left ventricle to the aorta. Most mechanical hearts use a centrifugal pump, which is quieter, uses
less energy and lasts longer than the piston type mechanical hearts. The centrifugal pump produces a
constant flow of blood around the body; therefore the patient will not have a

Separation Between the Narration in Response to...
In reading Frankenstein, by Mary Shelly, a motif of distance and separateness can be discerned from
the text. In the structure of the narrative, the reader is distant from the action. The setting of the
narrative is situated often in isolated and nearly inaccessible areas, creating separateness between the
action of the story and the everyday world. The Frankenstein monster is remote compared to the rest
of world by narrative structure, geographic area, and his namelessness. The reader must look through
several lenses throughout the novel. The letters that begin the book are addressed to Mrs. Saville from
Robert Walton. So already in the beginning, the reader is asked to participate in voyeurism, looking in

The light of the story is passing through the lenses of Robert Walton, Victor Frankenstein, and finally
the antagonist of the story: the nameless Frankenstein monster. Shelly gradually drops these lenses
once again until we are back to Walton s letters to Mrs. Saville. The three main lenses of this narration
are also separate in space from the rest of humanity for the majority of this novel. Walton first sees the
Frankenstein monster and then Victor on his voyage north into the ice. It is only these two creatures,
and the adventurers of Walton s crew that would travel this far away from the comfort and
companionship of humanity. The first spoken encounter between Frankenstein and his monster occurs
on the icy glacier in the Swiss Alps near the source of the Arveiron. After Victor s ascent into the
mountains he is confronted by the monster and is led to an even higher peak to the hut of the monster
where the he begins his tale. The monster exists outside the sphere of humanity, right on the fringe. He
spends his formative months in the woods or inside his hiding place outside the cottage of the exiled
French Nationals. The only people who ever hear the monster are Victor, the blind father of the
cottage, and William right before he dies. The rest of humanity, even if the monster tries to speak, is
unable to hear him. The monster is so far from what is right and normal that the capacity for
understanding is not within the grasp of normal human experience. The

The Flight Research Paper
The Flight
Maritza Nunez
Keiser University
The Flight Flying on an airplane has always been one of the most exciting experiences in the life of a
person. For many people it is a process that causes them fear. Others love the idea of flying. For me it
was the first time I flew in an airplane, it was an experience full of adrenaline, and one of the best
moments of my life. Love every part of being in an airplane. Going into the airplane, takeoff, landing
and of course the best moment of all was to see my mom again. Boarding the airplane was interesting.
After arriving at the airport and saying goodbye to my family, it was time to move to check in my
flight. While in the line he could hear a sweet voice calling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The more we advanced they were seeing more lights. These turned into a big city, Miami . At that time
I did not know whether it was fantasy or reality. Seeing Miami for the first time from the sky gave me
the idea of a toy city. A city where the night is full of life, lights and movement. Suddenly again the
same pleasant voice that greeted us on the plane ride. This time to inform us that we were about to
land. When we flew over the airport and see that big building made me feel that many surprises were
to come. During the landing there was a bit of turbulence, it was funny because it felt like when you
go in a car and there are bumps in the road. After landing, I went to the emigration office. This office
was filled with people in suits and all talking in English, giving me the security that I was in right
place. After finish the whole process of emigration, came the most anticipated part of my entire trip,
see my mom. Down the ramp my mom was the first thing I saw. Seeing her was as if time stopped, as
if it were a movie meeting. While I hug her, her skin felt so soft. I feel that sweet smell that has always
characterized her. Tears began to show up in our eyes witnessing a beautiful family

Evaluating American Values
Hartz and Tocqueville concur that Americans embrace and agree on essential points or fundamental
values like liberty, democracy, and equality. These are easy words to agree to but the application of
these values can be vastly different depending on who is asked. How American values are defined and
applied has split Americans along racial, gender, and class lines since the formation of the United
States. The declaration of independence brought with it differences in the application of American
values. The founding fathers had different ideas of equality and liberty for different groups of people.
Thomas Jefferson wrote in the declaration, all men are created equal (The Declaration of
Independence) . At the time, women could not own land, African Americans were considered ... Show

Everyone supports the concept of free speech, but disagrees on how it should be exercised. Some
people feel that speech should be limited when they find it hateful or disrespectful. Others believe free
speech should be applied equally to everyone. The debate of kneeling during the national anthem has
stimulated a large debate and split public opinion. Some argue that kneeling is distasteful and
dishonors the flag. Others feel that kneeling is a peaceful protest that the first amendment protects.
Some believe that the factor of race has exaggerated the issue because the first person to protest by
kneeling during the anthem is black. Free speech divides the public opinion and some feel it should be
restricted depending on what the protest consists of.
All americans believe in certain core values. Everyone can agree that they support democracy, liberty,
and equality. A split in public opinion occurs because people have different opinions on these basic
american values and how they should be enforced or regulated. In other words, Americans support
universal concepts and values, but do not agree on how they should be

Analysis of Sidgwick s Third Axiom Essay
This paper will object to Sidgwick s axiom that from the point of view of the universe, the good of one
is no more important than the good of another on the ground that it is analytic. I present the purpose
and content of the axiom with a further explanation of what I take the point of view of the universe to
mean. I then consider the response of the Egoist to the axiom and Sidgwick s counter response to
illustrate the tautology of the argument. The tautology of the argument brings it in line with other
axioms that Sidgwick rejects as insignificant. Thus, I argue that the third axiom fails to meet Sidgwick
s own standards, making its utility and significance questionable. In response to this, I consider that
the axiom may be analytic but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, the axiom holds that we must regard the good of others as equal to our own good unless, when
viewed from an impartial position, it is less due to special circumstances . For example, Sidgwick
states that it would be wrong for a man to pursue his own good on any occasion if it would result in
another individual having to sacrifice a greater amount of their good. The problem with the axiom lies
in the use of the phrase from the point of view of the universe . The phrase must be included because
without it an Egoist could easily reject the axiom, which would be unacceptable for Sidgwick.
However, the inclusion of this phrase could lead one to object to the axiom on the basis that it is
analytic. As it stands, the Egoist can escape the axiom so long as he holds his happiness as his ultimate
end. He can simply say he is not interested in taking up that point of view and thus it does not apply.
Sidgwick acknowledges this to be true, so long as the Egoist does not believe that his happiness or
pleasure is Good, not only for him but from the point of view of the Universe... as by saying that
nature designed him to seek his own happiness. If the Egoist believes something like this, Sidgwick
thinks it becomes relevant to tell him that, when taken universally, his good is no more important than
that of any other person. Thus, his argument becomes, if you adopt the

Camera Lucida By Roland Barthes
After Reading Camera Lucida written by Roland Barthes, I was both confused and interested by his
ideas. Though I did not understand much of the book, I was able to take a couple of his ideas and
really think about how I see photos. In the future, I intend to use these ideas when I look at photos.
One of his ideas that I was able to understand is the way he looks at pictures. The other one is his
second definition of punctum. The first of the two ideas that interested me the most was the way
Barthes looked at photos. He did not say that he liked a photo because it had his favorite animal or
color. He looked deeper into the photo. He looked to see what had caught his eye the most about a
photo he enjoyed. He called the catching of his eye the punctum. Barthes described the punctum as, ...
is that accident which pricks me... (Barthes 27). This prick didn t always hit him with every photo.
Throughout the book, he described certain photos that I thought were interesting, but he did not enjoy
them. An example of a photo that he didn t enjoy was the photo of the two nuns and three helmeted
soldiers, which was photographed by Koen Wessing in 1979. The main reason that it didn t appeal to
him was that it didn t have much of a, duality (Barthes 23) to it. Then there were photos that had
caught his eye. An example of an image he enjoyed and had his prick was a photo of an African
American family; photographed by James Van Der Zee in 1926. The family is not what the punctum
was. The

What are the appropriate hurdle rates for each segment of their business? (2) Is the Products and

established Telecommunications Services segment, and the recently added Products and Systems

radically different growth rates and characteristics. In 2004 the Telecommunications segment earned a

The complete list of companies statistics reviewed along with the comparable businesses ( Comps )
selected for use in the analysis can be found in Appendix A. Comps for the Telecommunications
Services segment are highlighted in light orange, and the Comps for the Products and Systems
segment are highlighted in light blue. Initially statistics (Including Betas, and equity debit ratios) for
the Comps was averaged to calculate the individual WACCs. Telecommunications Services Segment
Using the Comps we assume a Cost of Equity of 10.81% and a 23.92%: 76.08% Debit Equity ratio.
The resulting WACC would be 9.05%. (See Appendix B for the details of the calculation) This is
slightly below the current companywide WACC (hurdle rate) of 9.3%. Thus if viewed from this
perspective it does appear that if this segment WACC was implemented and managers invested in
projects. In practicality however the cost of the various forms of capital for the Telecommunications
will likely not change, this is what Helen Buono refers to when she says all money is green . Thus to
adjust for the practicality of how the company actually receives funding we assume that the various
forms of capital would not change from their present value and recalculate the WACC using only the
updated mix of capital from our Comps. The result is a WACC of 9.17% that is both risk adjusted and
practical. One important not is that this is currently below corporate hurdle rate and thus if this rate

Realism And Romanticism In The Boarded Window By Ambrose...
Many of our time rely on credit and debit cards when purchasing items. While the two seem identical
to one another, failure to know the difference can result in an economic catastrophe on the card owner
s part. Debit cards are used as a way to spend money that the consumer already has by withdrawing
the purchase amount directly from their account. On the other hand, credit cards allow the card owner
to borrow money from the bank, in which the card is issued, up to a certain amount in order to make a
purchase which they will pay back to the bank at a later date. Literature can be the same way. A story

Realistic one. Murlock s average life clearly portrays the story as one of the Realistic movement,
classically portraying a slice of life mentality. Although this story has evidence of being a Realistic
writer s work, some may portray the story as one from the Romanticism movement, a movement
which is nearly the opposite of Realism. The writers of the Romanticism added supernatural ideas and
events into their story in order to focus on imagination. In The Boarded Window Murlock s house is
seen as dismal and dreary by his fellow town members and it is rare that he receives a visit from a
neighbor. When describing the house, Bierce says all the children were afraid of the house and would
run away to avoid the ghost (17). This supernatural element allows the reader to think this story is
Romantic and is solely of the imagination. In addition, after the passing of Murlock s wife, he
prepares for her burial, and decides to keep his lifeless wife in his house until the day of her final
departure. One night,

The Scarlett Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne Essay
Middle class women in the early nineteenth century became known only for their passionless sexuality
and the ability to bear children (Myers Shirk). While married men had the option to impregnate any
woman they chose, women had the primary responsibility of raising the children while remaining
faithful. During this era, common practice dictated that only women would face prosecution for
infidelity or else face charges of a serious crime (Mawa). Society s frame of mind during this time
served to place men at the top of the gender hierarchy until, later in the century (Myers Shirk). The
notion that women received unjust treatment as compared to men also existed in the literature of that
era. The Scarlett Letter written by Nathaniel Hawthorne illustrates the disparity of equality at the time.
In this book, the author writes of a woman, Hester Prynne, who committed adultery and bore a child
out of wedlock. Hester s punishment handed down by the church resulted in incarceration followed by
parading her through the town in an effort to shame her for her misdeeds (Hawthorne).
During this time period, women in New York formed a Female Moral Reform Society Program. This
program s primary goal encouraged women to end men s immoral view of them in general.
Specifically, the program appealed to society to view women as more than just a vessel for
reproduction. Moreover, there existed an inherent desire to educate future generations with regard to
the respect that women

condition of the endocrine system that affects women, which can cause infertility in women of
reproductive age. Women with PCOS have abnormal cysts in at least one of their ovaries which cause
the eggs not to fully mature and be released during ovulation. The female reproductive organs are the

menstruation or amenorrhea and tend to develop hirsutism known as an increase in unwanted hairs,
especially on the face, legs, stomach, chest, and back. Some of the additional symptoms are high
cholesterol, high blood pressure, Pelvic pain, acne, skin tags, weight gain, oily or dry skin, patches of
skin on arms, breast and neck and anxiety (Thornton et al, 2015).

Complication
PCOS can cause inability to conceive and miscarriages in women. Sleep apneas can lead to heart
attack to occur. There is a high risk of developing endometrial cancer in women with PCOS because
the innermost layer is not shedding; overtime the cells from endometrium develop into uterine cancer.
It can spread to other regions of the body. Another complication of PCOS is liver disease can occur
due to the inability of the liver to metabolize the excess glucose secreting in the body which can lead
to insulin resistance, eventually the development of type 2 diabetes in PCOS patients (Caserta,
Adducchio, Picchia, Ralli, Matteucci, Moscarini, 2014).

Into The Darkness Symbolism
After reading the poem, Into the darkness, I have decided to focus on symbolism, archetypes, and
myths when referring to the owl and darkness. After researching I have found out that an owl operates
mainly late at night or all night. The author stated that The great horned owl calls to me each night
from the deep, tree shadows nearby, and I shape shift in the darkness, and shed human form, to fly .
When the owl shows up in your life, pay attention to the winds of change. Perhaps the author is about
to leave some old habits, a situation no longer serves or perhaps bring something new in your life.
When referring to symbolism there are several myths about owls that have been around for years. For

Sexual Exploitation Of The Police Station

Before I end my placement, I would like to have more to do with clients before their matters reach

already been done prior to the matter before it reaches Nick because he is briefed by solicitors, and
sometimes by the Commonwealth or State DPP. Of course I understand the issues surrounding liability
so I cannot conduct the interviews myself, but I was disappointed to have so little do with the clients
prior to reaching trial. The extent of the client contact that I have had is the police interview, and
another occasion at the District Court in an area where the accused stayed and spoke with Nick, not at
any great length. This is something that I should have considered before deciding to do my placement

emotional clients, and making sure that I ve provided the correct legal advice to those clients, I have
missed out on a great opportunity for my professional development, specifically regarding client
contact. This is something that I hope to address before the end of my placement, and it is something

The Anunciation And Expulsion From Paradise Analysis
Giovanni di Paolo s The Annunciation and Expulsion from Paradise is currently in the National
Gallery of Art in Washington DC, was finished in 1435 CE, and is made of tempera on panel. This
Sienese panel from the start of the Italian Renaissance is believed to be one of five from the lower part
of the altarpiece. Giovanni di Paolo uses golden texture to display divinity, line to illustrate
architectural perspective, and a strategic use of scale throughout the composition in order to portray
the importance of the religious context. His personal artistic stylization, the experimentation of the
Italian Renaissance but still firmly painting with Medieval Pictorial Tradition, and the use of
symbolism can also demonstrate the religious meaning of the piece. Furthermore, in the context of
Giovanni di Paolo s The Annunciation and Expulsion from Paradise, the conversation between
monetary and cultural value and the controversy of art being exhibited in its country of origin will be
discussed.
Giovanni di Paolo gained distinction in the Sienese School of painting in the Gothic style. Believed to
use a style book for reference while painting, Giovanni di Paolo was extremely influenced by Trecento
and Quattrocento Italian artists. He started by mimicking other artists like Gentile da Fabriano, but
developed his own experimentation with religious pieces later on in his life. Although he copied the
concepts in his earlier works, like the Raising of Lazarus by Duccio, his scenes were more lively,
vivid, and realistically represented. Later in his life, Giovanni became skilled in painting illuminated
manuscripts, which are recognized today because the early influences of the Italian Renaissance are
present in his depiction of naturalism, like his experimental linear perspective in The Annunciation
and Expulsion from Paradise. Like all artists in the early Italian Renaissance, Giovanni only painted
religious narratives correlating to the Catholic influences. Uniformed biblical narratives that most
could understand were sought after, so schools and monasteries taught artists and those artists were
later commissioned by Catholic churches. The lack of other means for patronage lead to strict
representation of religious art as

Attracting younger customer also help us improve brand image compare to competitor. From data
(Chart 4) we can see that BMW driver are younger compare to main competitor, such as Lexus and
Mercedes, if we can make BMW brand attach with young and then make other competitor brand look
old this will help to attract more younger customer and make them commit to use BMW for the rest of
their life. Another thing that we can see from BMW customer base is while average ages of BMW
owner are younger but their average incomes are higher we make people remember that BMW is the
car for highly educate, bright, affluent person who want to have a great driving experience . If we can
own that position which utilize BMW strong point as Ultimate driving machine then push other

thing that associate with BMW brand such as Status symbol, Yuppie Machine and also stress what
BMW is all about amazing performance and try something new and exciting. This show people what

this group of people because I realized many colleges make medical records mandatory for only
students in the health related courses and also freshmen living on campuses. I asked myself, what
about those other students who are doing other courses or major who may also be at risk. The main
purpose for viral hepatitis teaching is to inform the students of the importance or benefits from
vaccines to prevent hepatitis virus. This will take place in the school auditorium to get access to
internet and projector to present the information.
After this teaching, students will be able to learn the following:
The types of viral hepatitis
Causes of the types of hepatitis
Ways of preventing viral hepatitis
The leading cause of liver damage due to viral hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus represents a
major health problem in the United States. CDC estimates that approximately 3.2 million of
Americans are chronically infected with hepatitis C virus, with an estimate of 8,000 to 10,000
hepatitis C virus related deaths annually (CDC foundation).
Hepatitis can be defined as liver inflammation caused by viral infection or toxins like drugs or alcohol

Is Tachylectin 5a A Protein Found During The Immune System...
Tachylectin 5A is a protein found in the immune system of the Japanese horseshoe crab, Tachypleus
tridentatus. Tachylectin 5A, which has a PBD reference number of 1JC9, is mainly found in the
hemolymph plasma of horseshoe crabs (1). This protein was determined on June 8th, 2001 via x ray
diffraction (1). The X ray diffraction results in an absorbance of 2.01 Å (2). It shows that the protein
contains 269 residues, and the molecular weight ot is 380 400 kDa (2). Proteins similar to tachylectin
5A have been found in various organisms like slime molds, sponges, bony fish, and lancelets (3).
Tachylectin 5A is structurally related to the fibrinogen γ fragment, which is found in mammals
plasma; and it is similar to a protein in humans called ficolin, which is involved in host defense
through nonself recognition (4).
Tachylectin 5A is an ellipsoidal molecule that is an asymmetrical monomer, which is subdivided into
three different domains that interact with each other (2). The primary structure of Tachylectin 5A
constitutes 269 amino acid residues (1). The amino acid composition of this protein has a cis peptide
bone between Arg 218 and Cys 219 (3). It contains one protein modification called prryolidone
carboxylic acid, which is the twenty fourth amino acid in the sequence (1). And the secondary
structure of the protein consists of 16% alpha helical and 24% beta sheets. There are 9 helices with 44

Technology: Embrace Change
If there is one consistency in life, then it is the one of change and we as a human race will need to find
a way to adapt to it. As the ancient philosopher Heraclitus of Ephesus articulated with a brilliant and
memorable statement on the river of flux that life is like a river: We both step and do not step in the
same rivers. We are and are not (B49a). What Heraclitus points out for those who are unfamiliar with
this school of thought is, that the natural state of life is change where everything including ourselves is
constantly shifting, changing, and becoming something other to what it was before. This theory that
life is like a river is useful because it sheds light on a human challenge to accept change. According ...

important war in U.S. history between Great Britain and the original British 13 colonies in North
America. It was the beginning of the start of the United States of America. There were many events
that led to the war, some being unfair and others being fair, but was the American Revolution a just
war overall? This war was justified because the colonists were taxed unfairly, being mistreated, and
were being oppressed with soldiers, later causing many riots to break out. Many colonists were being
taxed unfairly by the king. In the 18th century, Britain began to tax the American colonies to pay for
debt caused by the French and Indian war. Although these taxes were not severe, they were unjust,
because the American colonies had no representation in parliament. One instance was when the British
Parliament passed the Sugar Act. It placed taxes on sugar and strictly enforced laws. This led to
protests and boycotts around the colonies. In addition, the British Parliament also passed the Stamp
Act, imposing a tax on many types of printed materials used in the colonies such as legal documents,
newspapers, and even playing cards. Several ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to an incident known as the Boston Massacre. A group of British soldiers were sent to support
a soldier who was being harassed by a crowd of colonists protesting, but later ending up shooting,
causing mayhem throughout the colonies. In Document C, a picture shows a group of British soldiers
firing into a crowd, killing a few colonists. Another instance was when King George sent troops to
destroy some ammunition stored in Lexington. But the colonists were prepared to resist the British
troops, and the standoff later developed into a battle. This ignited the American

Kimchee and Fermentation Essay
Kimchee and Fermentation
Introduction
Each country has its own unique food item that is special and has been providing local community

product. By fermentation, Koreans were able to preserve much nutritional values of the cabbage,
improve and develop layers of different flavors, and significantly increases shelf life of the product.
Moreover, Kimchee fermentation has been providing Koreans with rich source of vitamin C and B ...

Results and Discussion
For the first three days, little pH change is observed, this is due to Leuconostoc mesenteriodes that is
changing substrate to anaerobic condition, but not producing lactic acids (Mheen and Kwon 1984). In
addition, microbes are not large in number; therefore, more time is necessary for rapid growth of the
microbial community. As expected, pH of the Kimchee drops from 7 to 4.5 within the next 7

Epstein s Pigeon Insight Study Vincent Liu, James Wittrig, Andrew Moscone Abstract Learning: understanding of different ideas and phenomena and how they work together; learning by looking at patterns and similarities between different things. Focus on deeper meaning rather than individual thoughts. Example 1: A study by Jennifer Vonk of Oakland University demonstrated in a study that various primates, such as orangutans and gorillas, are capable of abstract thinking. The primates were shown a picture of an animal, e.g. a snake. They were then shown two animal pictures: one from the same group (e.g. another reptile) and one from a different group (e.g. a bird). The primates were rewarded for identifying the similar animal, and they were able to do this better than would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tolman. Rats were put into a maze and split into three groups: group 1 received food at the end, group 2 received nothing, and group 3 received no food for the first ten days and food at the end on the eleventh. Group 3 rats thus showed latent learning by using the knowledge they gained without the incentive (wandering around) to finish the maze much more quickly. Example 2: A study done by Harold Stevenson on children. Children were motivated to explore irrelevant objects to open a box. When the experiment was repeated, the children were able to identify objects that they had previously seen (not used) more quickly than before, demonstrating latent learning. This ability increased with age. • 3. Essay About Fairy Tales Introduction As a child, I am fond of fairy tales. In fact, my night would not be complete without my mother reading me a fairy tale story before going to sleep. One of my favorite fairy tale stories, for instance, is the story of Aladdin. As a child, it amazes me to think that I have a genie friend who can give me anything I want. I was thinking about wishing for a castle full of chocolates and goodies and imagine myself riding that magic carpet while sneaking up on the houses of my friends. Fairy tales gave me wonderful experience as a child, which I believe enhanced my creativity and imagination. Some fairy tales are meant to give children life s lessons while others are purely for entertainment purposes. In my young age, I do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some scholars believe that as soon as humans were able to speak, they might have already formulated their own version of fairy tales in their story telling (Evolution of Storytelling and Fairly Tales, n.d.). Apparently, fairy tales are deeply embedded in human culture that it can be found even in the earliest writings of the Aryans and the Hindus (Bunce, 1878). The early Greeks Iliad and Odyssey as well as the early Anglo Saxons Beowulf are just a few examples of folk tales that have been told until today. Although these stories are not meant for children, these folk tales laid the foundations of today s modern fairy tales (Anderson, 2006). Most likely, every culture has their own version of fairy tale, which could have evolved from the folk tales of their ancient pasts. Modern fairy tales combines the elements of fables and fantasy in order to instruct moral values. Among the most common are Snow White, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beasts, The Frog Prince, Pinocchio and many other fairy tales of such genre, which highlights moral values such as goodness, loyalty and honesty. On the other hand, some modern fairy tales such as Alice s Adventures in Wonderland are purely entertaining without the need for moral emphasis (Anderson, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It encompasses parts of 6 states, including all of Washington, DC. The Chesapeake Bay is what is known as a watershed, an area that contributes to the drainage to a water body, stream, river, lake or ocean. Rainwater that falls within the 64,000 square miles that is the Chesapeake Bay will subsequently travel through many streams and rivers, eventually making its way into the largest estuary system in the United States. The Estuary System An estuary system is the resulting collisions of sweet and salt fresh river water flowing seaward and ocean water inland. It is an aquatic system where salt and freshwater are constantly mixing. An estuary system is one of most active systems of the planet; it is a hybrid system that contains the best and worst qualities of the ocean, river, and lake systems it conglomerates. Estuaries are unique in nature because of their ability to be the most productive ecosystem on the entire planet; humans have attempted and failed to reach the productivity that estuaries naturally grant. There productivity lies it the constant change that occurs from the conflicting flows of fresh and ocean water. Ocean and freshwater are measured largely based on salinity, or the level of parts of salt per thousand. Ocean water usually has around 35 parts per thousands of salt water, while freshwater ... Social media platforms, such as Instagram and Snapchat, although different ways of interacting allows for those that use it to connect with celebrities such as Serena Williams. Serena Williams, although an active and dominating tennis player still maintains contact and connections to her audience through multiple social media platforms. However, when analyzing her social media platforms, her activity is shown to differ depending on the platform. Williams often uses her Instagram for marketing, her ideals, and promotion while her Snapchat is centered on her daily routine and life. Therefore, in my essay a holistic analyzation of Williams Snapchat versus her Instagram is presented in that celebrity social media is shown to represent more than just pictures but concepts of self representation and double consciousness. Serena Williams Instagram upon first glance is shown to reflect a typical user, in that it has her friends, dogs, self ideals, and selfies throughout the page. However, once analyzed further reflects something that Williams Snapchat does better at concealing, double consciousness. ECTs are basic tasks which require a small number of mental processes (Caroll, 1993.) Dual tasking is the combination of two ECTs. Main cognitive functions, utilised in ECTs, are affected during the process of dual tasking specifically in executive function and attention. Executive function includes complex mental processes such as: problem solving, planning and dual tasking as shown in a study by Zelazo (2002.) • 8. Realism Vs Classical Realism Realism is considered the most leading school of thought in international relations, as realism is also one of the oldest and most entrenched theories of International Relations (Steans, Pettiford, Diez El Anis 2013, p. 53). All realist share a perspective that states are unitary rational actors that are encouraged by the desire for military power and security rather than principles or ethics. Realists view human nature as self seeking, conflictual and competitive and consider that states are inherently violent as realism values order and does not welcome change. There are several forms of realism such as, structural, neo and classical, however this essay will focus on classical realism, its key theorists, its strength and weakness and how my view on international politics has changed over the course of this unit. Classical realism is a theory of international relations that was founded in the post world war 2 time that pursues to explain international politics as a result of human nature. Classical realism is also a state level theory that argues that all states seek power, which is driven by desire to achieve national interests. Classical realists concentrate on two areas of politics; restrictions imposed by human self interest such as, egoism and anarchy in the absence of international government (Donnelly 2013, p. 32). Wrestling is a sport that creates character and has children and young adults working hard for what they want to achieve. As a wrestler myself, I want to be the best I can be. Many Americans probably wished they could have done this before all trade between the United States and Cuba ceased as the United States now marks the 55th year of an ongoing embargo against Cuba. On February 3, 1962 President Kennedy signed Proclamation 3447 to declare an embargo against all trade between the United States and Cuba. • 12. Measuring Gross Income Data Is A Measure Of Economic Welfare Evaluate the extent to which Gross Income Data is a measure of economic welfare. Morven Chan Economic welfare is defined as the level prosperity and financial satisfaction of participants in an economy. Economic welfare can often be assessed through statistics such as the level of employment. National income statistics is defined as the value of goods and services produced in an economic system over a period of time. National Income can be broken down into four different parts which include Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Gross National Product (GNP), GDP per capita, and GNP per capita. Therefore as is shown through the expenditure method, the equation for GDP becomes: GDP=C+G+I+(X M) Looking at the equation we can see that the issue arises that from the equation, there is absolutely no calculation which addresses the economic welfare of the people and thus, as an economic indicator GDP excels, but as a welfare indicator, this could suggest that it may not be the best choice. Gross national product of a specific country is the sum of the goods and services produced by citizens of a country domestically and the output from external sources which are owned/part of the specific country. The symbol used to represent gross national product is GNP and the equation for the GNP can be simply written as: GNP=GDP+Net property income from abroad GNP and GDP per capita are the values for GDP and GNP divided by the population of the country. They give an average value for the output of product per individual in the country. Before looking at the cons of national income statistics, we must first note that there are redeeming points to using national income. For one, national income does a very good job of representing growth in the economy. However as we know economic growth is not necessarily always a positive thing. The First Amendment may be seen as a concept of basic freedom, which carries the idea that it, is more important to practice rather than to protect it. Regardless if a person is liberal or conservative, Republican or Democrat, the role within the United States government is to carry out essential responsibilities its citizens cannot perform. The United States citizens are responsible of electing politicians into government positions to solve the problems the country faces. One of those problems is corruption. The power of money is at the center of political corruption and even though fraud has been in existence for a long time, in recent years it has become a lot worse. In the past when politicians sought to run for office each individual had to raise a few thousand dollars, businesses in the past were smaller, manageable and the risk factors were minimal. Currently political contributions run in the millions, making Washington a booming business. Most of the money that is raised goes to lobbyist, campaign aids, deceiving PR operations, and pretentious grass roots groups. The American citizens have felt the repercussion with the political and lobbying establishments who are now in control of the public debates and the policy making process all for the benefit of the well financed special interest groups. The two countries are active and of importance to international trade, and although France has more access to the European Markets, Brazil has an opportunity in the international markets. The opportunity comes because Brazil has high interest rates, which investors will probably find attractive. There are differences in the economic profiles of the two countries and also similarities. One of the differences is in the government s role in international affairs, where, the French government plays minimal roles, whereas the Brazilian government plays a significant role in terms of policy making. Because of this the expansionary monetary policy put in place failed to realise the anticipated economic growth. The fiscal policies are also similar; while Brazil has experienced a fiscal restraint, France has followed parts of the EU fiscal stability to achieve economic stability. I believe that I had seen parts of this documentary but I had never watched the entire film until now. I believe that the fancy editing and animations are to meant to keep the viewer interested by presenting the message in a visually compelling way to hold the audience s attention. In order for the filmmakers to understand how each group worked on a very personal level, they had to immerse themselves in the scenes directly. Before beginning production, Peralta spent months hanging in these neighborhoods WITHOUT a camera, trying to establish relationships and gain peoples trust, as well as looking for interviewees. This effort is shown when Peralta can get some of these guys to open up and talk about things that they would not normally talk about. Patience and communication were absolutely critical in achieving that level of trust. He is not telling the stories from his perspective, because he did not experience it. Instead, he is giving a platform to these gang members and member of the community to share their opinions and beliefs. There were also people questioning Peralta s credibility, suggesting that a white former surfer/skateboarder has no type of relation to the gang culture of South Central La and that he does not fit to tell the story. People also criticized the film because they think that it is an exaggeration of what was/is really going on in South Central LA. Another concern was that this film is one sided and depicts the police, institutions and organizations as the culprits for why our black communities have suffered thanks to gang violence. The film did not really mention anything about the mechanics of the gang lifestyle. Why not? The artificial heart supports the body just like a normal heart would, pumping blood around the body. The artificial hearts are used when the original heart is damaged and needs time to recover. The artificial heart can replace the function of the person s original heart for either a short period of time while a donor heart is being sort or for the duration of the person s life. Walton first sees the Frankenstein monster and then Victor on his voyage north into the ice. Analysis of Sidgwick s Third Axiom Essay This paper will object to Sidgwick s axiom that from the point of view of the universe, the good of one is no more important than the good of another on the ground that it is analytic. I present the purpose and content of the axiom with a further explanation of what I take the point of view of the universe to mean. I then consider the response of the Egoist to the axiom and Sidgwick s counter response to illustrate the tautology of the argument. The tautology of the argument brings it in line with other axioms that Sidgwick rejects as insignificant. Thus, I argue that the third axiom fails to meet Sidgwick s own standards, making its utility and significance questionable. In response to this, I consider that the axiom may be analytic but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, the axiom holds that we must regard the good of others as equal to our own good unless, when viewed from an impartial position, it is less due to special circumstances . For example, Sidgwick states that it would be wrong for a man to pursue his own good on any occasion if it would result in another individual having to sacrifice a greater amount of their good. The problem with the axiom lies in the use of the phrase from the point of view of the universe . The phrase must be included because without it an Egoist could easily reject the axiom, which would be unacceptable for Sidgwick. However, the inclusion of this phrase could lead one to object to the axiom on the basis that it is analytic. As it stands, the Egoist can escape the axiom so long as he holds his happiness as his ultimate end. He can simply say he is not interested in taking up that point of view and thus it does not apply. Sidgwick acknowledges this to be true, so long as the Egoist does not believe that his happiness or pleasure is Good, not only for him but from the point of view of the Universe... as by saying that nature designed him to seek his own happiness. If the Egoist believes something like this, Sidgwick thinks it becomes relevant to tell him that, when taken universally, his good is no more important than that of any other person. Though I did not understand much of the book, I was able to take a couple of his ideas and really think about how I see photos. In the future, I intend to use these ideas when I look at photos. One of his ideas that I was able to understand is the way he looks at pictures. The other one is his second definition of punctum. The first of the two ideas that interested me the most was the way Barthes looked at photos. He did not say that he liked a photo because it had his favorite animal or color. He looked deeper into the photo. He looked to see what had caught his eye the most about a photo he enjoyed. He called the catching of his eye the punctum. Barthes described the punctum as, ... is that accident which pricks me... (Barthes 27). This prick didn t always hit him with every photo. Throughout the book, he described certain photos that I thought were interesting, but he did not enjoy them. An example of a photo that he didn t enjoy was the photo of the two nuns and three helmeted soldiers, which was photographed by Koen Wessing in 1979. The main reason that it didn t appeal to him was that it didn t have much of a, duality (Barthes 23) to it. Then there were photos that had caught his eye. Initially statistics (Including Betas, and equity debit ratios) for the Comps was averaged to calculate the individual WACCs. Telecommunications Services Segment Using the Comps we assume a Cost of Equity of 10.81% and a 23.92%: 76.08% Debit Equity ratio. The resulting WACC would be 9.05%. In practicality however the cost of the various forms of capital for the Telecommunications will likely not change, this is what Helen Buono refers to when she says all money is green . Thus to adjust for the practicality of how the company actually receives funding we assume that the various forms of capital would not change from their present value and recalculate the WACC using only the updated mix of capital from our Comps. • 29. The Scarlett Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne Essay Middle class women in the early nineteenth century became known only for their passionless sexuality and the ability to bear children (Myers Shirk). While married men had the option to impregnate any woman they chose, women had the primary responsibility of raising the children while remaining faithful. During this era, common practice dictated that only women would face prosecution for infidelity or else face charges of a serious crime (Mawa). Society s frame of mind during this time served to place men at the top of the gender hierarchy until, later in the century (Myers Shirk). The notion that women received unjust treatment as compared to men also existed in the literature of that era. The Scarlett Letter written by Nathaniel Hawthorne illustrates the disparity of equality at the time. In this book, the author writes of a woman, Hester Prynne, who committed adultery and bore a child out of wedlock. Hester s punishment handed down by the church resulted in incarceration followed by parading her through the town in an effort to shame her for her misdeeds (Hawthorne). During this time period, women in New York formed a Female Moral Reform Society Program. This program s primary goal encouraged women to end men s immoral view of them in general. Specifically, the program appealed to society to view women as more than just a vessel for reproduction. Moreover, there existed an inherent desire to educate future generations with regard to the respect that women ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After researching I have found out that an owl operates mainly late at night or all night. The author stated that The great horned owl calls to me each night from the deep, tree shadows nearby, and I shape shift in the darkness, and shed human form, to fly . When the owl shows up in your life, pay attention to the winds of change. Perhaps the author is about to leave some old habits, a situation no longer serves or perhaps bring something new in your life. • 34. Sexual Exploitation Of The Police Station I have been involved in a number of activities in my placement at Wright Chambers, mostly to do with criminal matters rather than civil. I have accompanied Nick and a client to the Hindley Street Police Station. We met with Nick s client and the client s wife outside of the station and Nick gave him some brief directions about not saying anything, even if he believed it would help his situation. At the time, I did not know what the client was being accused of, and it turned out that it was persistent sexual exploitation of his niece. I felt confident but somewhat wary that I had to maintain my friendly (if that is the right word) but professional manner towards the client. This was not difficult for me, although I am unable to reflect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before I end my placement, I would like to have more to do with clients before their matters reach trial. From my perspective as a CLE student, I have found that doing my placement with a criminal barrister has its limitations. The main one being that the groundwork , such as the initial interview, has already been done prior to the matter before it reaches Nick because he is briefed by solicitors, and sometimes by the Commonwealth or State DPP. Of course I understand the issues surrounding liability so I cannot conduct the interviews myself, but I was disappointed to have so little do with the clients prior to reaching trial. The extent of the client contact that I have had is the police interview, and another occasion at the District Court in an area where the accused stayed and spoke with Nick, not at any great length. This is something that I should have considered before deciding to do my placement at Wright Chambers, and it s something that I regret. While I haven t had the pressure of dealing with emotional clients, and making sure that I ve provided the correct legal advice to those clients, I have missed out on a great opportunity for my professional development, specifically regarding client contact. This is something that I hope to address before the end of my placement, and it is something that I regret not having considered at any earlier ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. The Anunciation And Expulsion From Paradise Analysis Giovanni di Paolo s The Annunciation and Expulsion from Paradise is currently in the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, was finished in 1435 CE, and is made of tempera on panel. This Sienese panel from the start of the Italian Renaissance is believed to be one of five from the lower part of the altarpiece. Giovanni di Paolo uses golden texture to display divinity, line to illustrate architectural perspective, and a strategic use of scale throughout the composition in order to portray the importance of the religious context. His personal artistic stylization, the experimentation of the Italian Renaissance but still firmly painting with Medieval Pictorial Tradition, and the use of symbolism can also demonstrate the religious meaning of the piece. Furthermore, in the context of Giovanni di Paolo s The Annunciation and Expulsion from Paradise, the conversation between monetary and cultural value and the controversy of art being exhibited in its country of origin will be discussed. Giovanni di Paolo gained distinction in the Sienese School of painting in the Gothic style. Believed to use a style book for reference while painting, Giovanni di Paolo was extremely influenced by Trecento and Quattrocento Italian artists. He started by mimicking other artists like Gentile da Fabriano, but developed his own experimentation with religious pieces later on in his life. Although he copied the concepts in his earlier works, like the Raising of Lazarus by Duccio, his scenes were more lively, vivid, and realistically represented. Later in his life, Giovanni became skilled in painting illuminated manuscripts, which are recognized today because the early influences of the Italian Renaissance are present in his depiction of naturalism, like his experimental linear perspective in The Annunciation and Expulsion from Paradise. Like all artists in the early Italian Renaissance, Giovanni only painted religious narratives correlating to the Catholic influences. Uniformed biblical narratives that most could understand were sought after, so schools and monasteries taught artists and those artists were later commissioned by Catholic churches. The lack of other means for patronage lead to strict representation of religious art as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the ancient philosopher Heraclitus of Ephesus articulated with a brilliant and memorable statement on the river of flux that life is like a river: We both step and do not step in the same rivers. We are and are not (B49a). What Heraclitus points out for those who are unfamiliar with this school of thought is, that the natural state of life is change where everything including ourselves is constantly shifting, changing, and becoming something other to what it was before. This theory that life is like a river is useful because it sheds light on a human challenge to accept change. According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 41. Essay On How Fair Was The American Revolution The American Revolution, a fight for rights full of deaths. The American Revolution was a very important war in U.S. history between Great Britain and the original British 13 colonies in North America. It was the beginning of the start of the United States of America. There were many events that led to the war, some being unfair and others being fair, but was the American Revolution a just war overall? This war was justified because the colonists were taxed unfairly, being mistreated, and were being oppressed with soldiers, later causing many riots to break out. Many colonists were being taxed unfairly by the king. In the 18th century, Britain began to tax the American colonies to pay for debt caused by the French and Indian war. Although these taxes were not severe, they were unjust, because the American colonies had no representation in parliament. One instance was when the British Parliament passed the Sugar Act. It placed taxes on sugar and strictly enforced laws. This led to protests and boycotts around the colonies. In addition, the British Parliament also passed the Stamp Act, imposing a tax on many types of printed materials used in the colonies such as legal documents, newspapers, and even playing cards.
