Physical Evidence As Document
Buckland s article raises the question of what is a Document . Buckland gathers opinions from
different articles and documentalists, and explains from different perspectives. From my point of view,
I agree the opinion of Physical Evidence as Document. (Buckland 1997) The document should not be
a natural object or element without any human interpretation or reproduction. It s true that as
mentioned in the article, stones like fossils, are documents but they are natural objects. However, these
stones can convey or express information with human interpretation. For example, the fossils can tell
the existence of an animal, and the life condition in that era. In the article of Enduring Paradigm, New

How Did Indi Build Agile Animals
Many years ago, long before humans were around, animals roamed Africa. There were tigers, lions,
bears, elephants, spiders, and so on and so on. The tigers were the kings of Africa and did whatever
they wanted wherever they wanted. Their leader was Indi and he told all the tigers what to do and how
to act. All other animals envied the big cats for their beautiful orange fur and long envious tails.
Siberias, god of life, favored them over all other creatures that she created. They were one of the
strongest and most agile creatures she had created and she loved them as her own. The one thing she
wishes was different was that they were not as self centered and rude. Indi and his streak got away
with too many things and they did not like to listen. Indi believed that rules did not apply to tigers.
One day Siberias decided to make more animals for Africa. She had created gemsboks, antelope,
cows, wildebeests, and other horse like creatures. She even decided to create some sea creatures for
her lakes. Siberias most proved new animals were her zebras, giraffes, and pufferfish. Siberias decreed
that the tigers and other big cats were allowed to eat any animal they wanted except for her new most
prised possessions. If they did, there would be terrible consequences. ... Show more content on

lake a pride of male lions had already eaten them. Indi decided to turn back and find something else to
eat. What he did not know was after they left the male lions perfect, soft fur blew up on their heads,
like a puffer fish would, and that is why male lions have the mane on their heads

Student Loan Debt And High Cost Of Education
AMERICAN INNOVATION, TOO EXPENSIVE TO EARN Although millions of college students
graduate each year, many of them are not successful after their education. Many jump in without
knowing what they want to do and at the end once they have their degree they realize that it wasn t
what they wanted. Now they have thousands of dollars in debt and a degree they dislike or a degree so
common it earns them but a dollar or two more than a high school diploma would. Some can t even
find job, yet they have the burden to pay back student loans, but what if we as students did not have
the burden of debt? Would that make a difference? Could pursing a second degree be more feasible
without the burden of expanding your debt? Student loan debt and high cost of education has become
a huge issue in this country, they are deterring individuals from pursuing a degree, at times prolongs
their education time frame and more often than not we are left with a huge debt to pay. I believe this
deterrent is gradually affecting the number of innovators in our country. How can we fix this?
With interest rates as high as 9.37% through SallieMae one of the leaders in financing education,
student loan debt has become a big business at the expense of the American people that want to better
themselves. The national student loan debt surpassed 1 trillion dollars with the average individual debt
being thirty thousand dollars. It is obvious why giving an education is more a business than a service.

The Dreams Of Dreams By Carl Jung
Every night people lay their heads down to rest in hopes of having a good night s sleep and as you
sleep during the night, dreams occur. Some remember more than others. However, a dream is always
present even if you may think it is not. The curiosity of dreams is what started the popularity of dream
interpretation. People wanted to know what they meant and how they were getting there which drove
psychologists to go out and study them. (The Dream Experience Chapter 1) Dreams are a very
complex topic because of the various meanings for their appearance. Theories vary from dream simply
being apart of a biological cycle that occurs during sleep to theories, or like Sigmund Freud s who
believed that there is a deeper meaning behind dreams that is driven by sexual aggression. Carl Jung s
theory is also very popular because of its acceptance. Jung, in general, believed dreams had a different
meaning from what the dream actually shows. Several theories and several explanations for dream
causes great disagreement between scientists and psychologists. (You are What you Dream)
Throughout time, however, other theories of dreaming have come about after Freud s. Freud s theory
is, to this say, questioned, by psychologists around the world. Is Freud s theory still hold up in the 21st
century? Freud s theory of dreams which is extremely abstract when it relates to other theories such as
Carl Jung s and Allan Hobson and Robert McCarley. Freud s theory for the most part was used

Personal Narrative- Amazon Experience Essay
Personal Narrative Amazon Experience
Being a curious little twelve year old who was eager to discover the world, when my father asked me
back in 1997 if I wanted to travel to Colombia, I jumped on the opportunity. Little did I know just how
much I would be discovering.
Colombia held sights, sound, and smells that I had never experienced. Crowded city highways with no
marked lanes, the stench of lead exhaust filling the overcrowded streets of the capitol, the freshness of
the Andean Mountains filling the country air. The thought of Colombia brings a dozen images and
adventures to mind. Out of all of these, however, there is one in particular which I shall never forget.

these real? A pretty, young Colombian girl sitting with one long leg thrown over the other while filing
her nails answered without even looking up, Oh yeah, those are real.
Real heads? Human heads? Real human heads? my dad asked in disbelief.
Yep, straight from the Amazon, she answered indifferently. I stared at the skulls in disbelief wondering
who the poor victims were. I ll intentioned intruders who tried to harm an Amazon tribe? Nosy tourists
who entered unwelcome into a prohibited zone?...
Wait a minute, I thought. Weren t we nosy tourists about to enter the depths of the Amazon?
Are you sure you still want to go on that Amazon trip I asked my dad.
Oh yeah, you re right. It is getting late, he misunderstood. Let s get going.
Oh well, I thought. Perhaps my twelve year old imagination is just running wild again. The Amazon
can t have head hunters where we re going. After all, it s a guided tour.
After driving around some breathtaking mountains, the land began to flatten out and the temperature
began increasing. A few hours later, we arrived at the site of they day s planned adventure. We

Comparing Confucianism And Daoism
Confucianism and Daoism (also called Taoism) are two of the main religions in China. Each
represents a different way to live life in balance and harmony.
Confucianism focuses on the community, looking at political philosophies to ensure social harmony.
Daoism focuses on the health of the body and harmony with the natural environment.
Modern Chinese scholars trace the origin of these two philosophies to the ancient belief of the the Yi
Jing; the two opposing forces that control the Universe. The universe must be in balance and any
extreme action in one direction will produce an imbalance in the system. The creative alternation
between the forces of yin and yang is called dao way. (Daoism and Confucianism). origins of

society had devolved because of its abuse of ritual (religious practices) and music. Confucius believed

Essay On Prostate Cancer
Elder Care Services and Prostate Cancer
The Centers for Disease Control says that prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American
men (other than skin cancer). Each year a man ages, his chances of developing prostate cancer
increases. The good news is that prostate cancer does not typically lead to further health problems and
spreads slowly. In fact, many doctors are now recommending, especially in seniors, that the cancer is
monitored (an action known as active surveillance) and not treated unless absolutely necessary, since
the side effects of surgery or other treatment options are often far worse than the prostate cancer itself.

Sometimes and enlarged prostate is not caused by cancer but by a medical problem called benign
prostatic hyperplasia (enlarging of the prostate).
There is currently no one set of traits or behaviors that are linked to prostate cancer. The CDC notes,
however, that if a man has a father, brother, or son who has had prostate cancer [he] is two to three
times more likely to develop the disease himself.
A man may suspect he has prostate cancer if he starts to have difficulty urinating and/or cannot fully
empty the bladder, experiences frequent nighttime urination, has a burning sensation while urinating
or sees blood in the urine, experiences pain the back of the pelvis, or experiences painful ejaculation.
These symptoms do not necessarily mean that prostate cancer is present, but a medical check up is
certainly warranted, especially if more than one of the symptoms is experienced.
The doctor can check for an enlarged prostate through a manual examination of the gland. They will
also draw blood to check for abnormal levels of prostate specific antigen, or PSA. If the levels are too
high, a biopsy of the prostate may be

Mefecane, Used To Describe The Events In African History
Mefecane
Introduction.
Mefecane as generally used to describe the events in African history which can be characterised by
series of wars and migration (especially the African tribes within the sub continent of Africa). There
are many schools of thought as to why these migrations and wars took place, that is generally known
as Mefecane(Wright). There are many schools of thought, based on specific causes for the Mfecane.
These schools are known by the cause they argues, the causes are overpopulation, trade, political
changes and environmental causes. This essay will however argue that there is no monocasual
exsplanation for the Mfecane, but that the Mfecane took place due to all these causes present
simitaneasly. Thus will all the monocasual causes be discuased with their flaw, to support the idea that
the Mfecane is caused by all these causes present at the same time.
What was Mefecane: History

Treatment Of Treatment For Bipolar Disorder
Treatment
Treatment for bipolar disorder has to this day been approach using the biomedical model approach.
Which means that BP disorder has been predominantly treated pharmacologically. Pharmacological
treatment of BP disorder is not to be underestimated, but it is also not to be considered the first and
last option of treatment. Research has shown that the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (along with
various other treatments) combined with pharmacological treatment has been shown to have better
efficacy than each of these approaches separately (Singleton, 2006). However, it has been seen as a
long time technique to use medication as a validator of the diagnosis. This techniques seems

Unfortunately the neurobiology in relation to lithium treatment is not well understood and most of the
research on it is primarily speculative and theoretical, and in turn does not offer much insight.
Although, the great efficacy of this treatment does not come without a price, lithium has a very thin
line between therapeutic effect and toxicity. Blood levels must be check regularly to make sure that
the lithium is within therapeutic levels to avoid lithium poisoning (Jann M. W., 2014). The next
pharmacological treatment that will be discussed is probably the most controversial treatment for BP
disorder, and that is antidepressants. Antidepressant are not a FDA accepted treatment for BP disorder
and the efficacy of this treatment is questionable. Antidepressant may be used on patients with BP
disorder, it is not advised to use them on patients with a history of rapid cycling (of symptoms). There
seems to be a consensus in the research that antidepressants should never be used to treat BP disorder
alone. Antidepressants should be used with antipsychotic or mood stabilizers in order to protect the
patient from potential pharmacologically induced episode of mania that could be a danger to the
patient.
Brief Overview of Psychotherapy People with BP disorder usually end up in therapy by one of
multiple way, either the subject is in a depressive phase and recognizes that they need help. The
subject is in a manic phase and is admitted against their own will

would let the music go away from the elite social groups, and now be for everybody. Also just because
a musician could play swing music well, there was no guarantee that the same musician would be able

The West Memphis Three Case Analysis
The Case of the West Memphis Three involves the three teenage boys accused and convicted of
murdering Michael Moore, Stevie Branch, and Christopher Byers in West Memphis, Arkansas on May
5th, 1993. The investigation, trial, and appeals that followed would put the Arkansas criminal justice
system under scrutiny for their actions. The West Memphis Police Department arrested and charged
Jason Baldwin, Damien Echols, and Jessie Misskelly, Jr. with the three boy s murders. The entire case
was under the constant watch of the media and brought a great deal of attention to the actions and
conduct of the West Memphis Police Department, as well as the Arkansas criminal justice system.
Many outsiders got involved with the West Memphis Three case. Among these outsiders were famous
musicians Eddy Vedder, lead singer of Pearl Jam and Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks, famous
actors including Johnny Depp, and superstar director Peter Jackson. These celebrities helped to raise
awareness of the case as well as to help raise money for the West Memphis three to obtain appropriate
post conviction representation and unbiased forensic testing and analysis in the hopes of exonerating
them of their convictions. While the new forensic evidence (and the new testing and expert analysis of
the original evidence) ultimately helped the West Memphis Three become free men again, the question
still remains as to who really murdered those three boys on May 5th, 1993 in West Memphis,

when bursae, a fluid filled sac at the joints, gets inflamed. A person with Bursitis will have trouble
with movement or pressure because the fluid filled sacs help pressure and lubricate points between our
tendons, bones, and muscles located near our joints; allowing movement in joints without much
friction. When a person has Bursitis, their fluid filled sac gets inflamed so movement and pressure will

Merchant Of Venice Analysis
William Shakespeare s comedy The Merchant of Venice tells the story of Antonio, a merchant, who
borrows money from Shylock a Jewish moneylender to help his friend, Bassanio, marry a woman. The
play highlights the tension between Jews and Christians in society through the interactions between
Shylock and the Christians. In contrast, the play also highlights the positive aspects of both religions.
The main point of The Merchant of Venice is to critique society s treatment of religion.
Shakespeare criticizes society s output on Judaism through his play with the characters Shylock and
Jessica. Shylock and Jessica are seen as outsiders in Venice and are discriminated by the Christian
characters in the play for being Jewish. For instance, Gratiano describes Jessica, a former Jew, as an
infidel (III.ii.223) despite converting and marrying a Christian. By calling Jessica an infidel , Gratiano
is implying that she isn t a true Christian and is still a Jew. Later in the play, Jessica is also told there s
no mercy in heaven.. (III.v.31) because she was Jewish. This statement evokes the idea all Jews are
sinful and can t enter heaven. The two examples above show how Jews are seen as inferior to
Christians in the play. Because of this bigotry, Shylock is vengeful toward Antonio with his bond.
When he finds out about Antonio s lost ships, he exclaims: I ll plague him, I ll torture him. I am glad
of it. (III.i.115 116). This line demonstrates the stereotypical image of Jews that Christians see. What
Shylock says relates to the 16th century where Christians often believed that Jews used their blood in
religious ceremonies. By saying he ll torture and plague Antonio, Shylock is conforming with the
negative image society has of him. However, Shakespeare also paints Shylock as a human character
treated unfairly by the Christians in Venice. After finding out that his daughter Jessica eloped to a
Christian man, Shylock delivers a powerful speech about Jews being equals: Hath not a Jew hands,
organs, dimensions, senses, affections, passions? Fed with the same food, hurt with the same weapons,
subject to the same diseases [...]as a Christian is? (III.i.48 54). This speech presents to the audience
that Shylock is human

Even Shakespeare himself who is covered in the wrap of indistinctness and vagueness is enclosed by a

innumerable multitude of people aim to pierce deeper into his work shipping the mark of Shakespeare

caring for me and the fact that I am Korean. Because when she tried to make me eat Kim chi, she
always used to say like oh, Koreans should eat Kim chi. By that time, however, what she said did not
really come across my mind. Since all the people around me were Korean, I did not really know what
being Korea means. But now I am in America, and being Korean becomes one of the unique
characteristics that represent me.
Another reason why I pick specifically fried Kim chi instead of raw Kim chi is because of its similar
characteristics as mine. Fried Kim chi and I share similar contents in some ways. Fried Kim chi is a
transitional version of raw Kim chi. We can also say it has been a little bit westernized since people
put butter, cheese or whatsoever in it. For me, I have the similar characteristic as it is since I have been
living in western country for several years, and so have been mixed with Korean culture and western
culture at the same time.
The Last point that why Kim chi represents my cultural identity is because it is a side menu. Yes, Kim
chi is a side menu, not a main menu mostly. However even if it is a side menu, it is definitely a must
have dish for Koreans when they have meals. To talk about the America s Society for a little bit,

America s Fascination with Serial Killers
As Boorstin identified, we choose who is famous by our attention, what they do in fact is not what
determines their fate. Fame is no longer about the deed behind it, but simply the spectacle Hitler made
the cover of Time magazine seven times, Stalin following with 12 covers of his own. The line between
people we love to love and people we love to hate is becoming thinner and blurred, so we thrust not
only heroes into the public view but also villains . This confusion between fame and celebrity owes a
lot to the change in newspapers over time; where once they delivered unbiased and detailed factual
accounts on events that happened, in the new age of mass media they began to compete with the
magazines. Tabloidisation meant that rather than objective articles based on fact we were instead
victim to the murder hype , with sensation fuelled stories about the latest fashionable murder trial, the
papers giving the killers their own stage name and persona to match. The idea of giving serial killers
their own moniker is something that has contributed tremendously to the glamorisation of killers,
because it is much like a stage name that you would give an actor or a singer. The names can either
relate to the act or style of killings i.e Jack The Ripper, which conjures a mental image of the killer at
work or could be to do with their location as in The Boston Strangler . This trend seems to originate
from the United States, for it is across their newspapers and news shows that

Japanese Furniture and Interior Design and Shiro Kuramata
Shiro Kuramata (1934 91) was a Japanese designer best known for his furniture and interior design,
which gave the modern culture a creative voice. Many will identify with the chair he designed for the
Vitra Design Museum in 1987 titled, How High the Moon (fig 1). The piece was inspired by an old
jazz song and is part of the permanent collection at New York s Museum of Modern Art. It is designed
as a spacious armchair with woven threads of expanded metal; the piece weighs little more than a leaf,
and can withstand robust use . His other works include entire storefronts designed for his friend Issey
Miyake, for whom Kuramata created over 100 retail interiors . One of these works is Bergdorf
Goodman in New York (fig 2.) designed in 1984 , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, the majority of the paper will focus on the symbolism, form, and aesthetic of Miss
Blanche and other works by Kuramata that force the attention of the viewer to be on a new identity for
an object previously deemed only a chair. Shiro Kuramta was born Yoshiji Sugiura to parents Sei and
Yoshiji on November 29, 1934, in Tokyo, Japan. As is sometimes the tradition in Japan, Kuramata s
father kept the name of his first wife, Chiyo Kuramata, even after she passed and he remarried Sei. At
the time of his birth his parents were living in the staff housing at the Research Institute of Physic and
Chemistry where his father worked . He was the youngest of three girls and four boys, living in a very
disciplined household, and began his education when he was seven years old. Tokyo at this time was
undergoing a change that would allow it to catch up with the First World, and taking steps to become
self sufficient in its development of industries; educating engineers, scientists, architects, and
designers. This interest in the culture of the Western world and the technological advancements all
lead to a policy of modernization and fast pace advancement in which Kuramata was born into.
Homes were simplistic and there was an appreciation for empty space, another facet that can be seen
in Kuramata s work . The bombing of Pearl Harbor marked Japan s entry into World War II, and

Types And Duration Of Surgeries
4. Results
There was no statistically significant difference between the 2 groups of the study as regards their
demographic data (age, BMI, sex, and ASA classification), type and duration of surgeries (Table 1).
All anesthetic and surgical procedures were completed without any major complication, Anesthesia
was inadequate, requiring conversion to general anesthesia and excluded from the study, in 5 cases of
CSA group and in 3 cases of CEA group. In CSA group; patients were excluded from the study
because of technical problems (1 catheter obstruction; 2 accidental dural punctures with Crawford
needle; 2 inability to insert the catheter) and the first dose was not administered. In CEA group; 2
patients did not achieve the desired level of anesthesia after the initial epidural injection and the
additional doses of 5 mL (till the maximum of 25 mL). In another patient, no blockade was achieved
in the twenty minutes after the first injection and anesthetic failure was documented.

The Atlanta Murders Of 1979–1981, Sometimes Called The
The Atlanta murders of 1979 1981, sometimes called the Atlanta Child Murders (although several of
the purported victims were adults), were a series of murders committed in the American city of
Atlanta, Georgia, from the middle of 1979 until May 1981. Over the two year period, at least 28
African American children, adolescents and adults were killed. Wayne Williams, an Atlanta native
who was 23 years old at the time of the last murder, was arrested for and convicted of two of the adult
murders, and sentenced to two consecutive life terms. Police subsequently have attributed a number of
the child murders to Williams and closed the cases, although he has not been tried or convicted in any
of those cases. Police staked out a local river where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A witness said she saw Yusuf getting into a blue car before he disappeared. His body was found on
November 8 in the abandoned E. P. Johnson elementary school by a school janitor who was looking
for a place to urinate. Bell s body was found clothed in the brown cut off shorts he was last seen
wearing, though they had a piece of masking tape stuck to them. He had been hit over the head twice
and the cause of death was strangulation. Police did not immediately link his disappearance to the
previous killings.
On March 4, 1980, the first female victim, 12 year old Angel Lenair, disappeared. She left her house
around 4 pm, wearing a denim outfit, and was last seen at a friend s house watching the television
program Sanford and Son. Lenair s body was found six days later, in a wooded vacant lot along
Campbellton Road, wearing the same clothes in which she had left home. A pair of white panties that
did not belong to Lenair were stuffed in her mouth, and her hands were bound with an electrical cord.
The cause of death was strangulation.

Significance Of The Battle Of Chancellorsville
The Significance of the Battle of Chancellorsville There have been few battles throughout history that
have held an esteemed position of being unprecedented. Stephen Crane s, The Red Badge of Courage,
was able to capture the significance of the battle that occurred at Chancellorsville without specifically
naming the battle. Crane s description of the events of this battle led the readers to realize that The
Red Badge of Courage took place at Chancellorsville. The Battle of Chancellorsville during the
American Civil War in 1863 led to a significant Confederate victory in the face of an overwhelming
imbalance between the North and the South. The impact of this victory guaranteed that Robert E. Lee
s command would be imprinted on the pages of history for all to see and would allow the Union to
realize what type of force with which they were reckoning. The Battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia,
was a relatively short battle, only lasting from May 1 4, 1863, (Davis, Rebels Yankees, 123). By the
end of 1862, the South had held off the Northern Union Army s constant attacks for nearly two years.
The state of Virginia, the home of the Confederate capital, was still intact, and the Union had failed in
every attempt to take it. President Lincoln knew that in order to win the war, the South must lose its
stronghold on Virginia. After the Union army suffered a loss at the hands of the Confederate army in
Fredericksburg, President Lincoln found a new leader, Fighting Joe

Managed Care System
The U.S has many payer systems which many believe it to be its downfall among other countries. This
may be because many view it more as an economic business and not an overall wellness plan. The
United States main public program of funding is Medicare, which once followed a standard form of
payment. It is now envisioned as a futuristic model that encompasses the payments of providers.
Medicare is a national social insurance program that is run by the government since 1966. Also unlike
Great Britain system, the program provides health care to Americans over 65 years of age for those
who have paid their work dues in the system. Medicare has also extended its reach to those Americans
who may be veterans or disabled. Another huge form of payment to providers is through Managed
care which can be beneficial to physicians in the fee for service and capitation aspect. While this form
of payment is similar to Great Britain s programs, their execution of it remains vastly different.
Managed Care is a type of healthcare system with health care plans that has restrictions on its
selection of facilities and health care providers at a reduced cost for the patient. Rather than come to a

How Did Nehemiah Break Their Stone Wall
When Nehemiah s plan was put into action he started to receive opposition from surrounding nations.
Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites were the people that tried to halt the
building of the wall. When Sanballat heard of the rebuilding he became angry and mocked the Jews
saying, Can they revive the stones from the dusty ruble even the burned ones? Tobiah responded with
negativity, Even what they are building if a fox should jump on it, he would break their stone wall
(Neh 4:1 3). In verses 4 5 Nehemiah called out to the Lord against the people who are showing
opposition. Nehemiah asked the Lord to punish the opposition for trying to stop the Lord s plan and
discouraging his people. The wall was built to half the height, and the surrounding nations were
encouraged to work before the enemy started to affect the building. All of these enemies conspired to
come against Jerusalem because the breaches within the walls had been closed and they no longer had
control over Jerusalem (Neh 4:4 8). Amongst the People ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Newton s First Law
1) Newton s First Law is: Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of
motion unless an external force is applied to it. A real world example of this is that a soccer ball does
not move until it is kicked. Newton s Second Law is that the relationship between an object s mass m,
its acceleration a, and the applied force F is F = ma. Acceleration and force are vectors; in this law the
direction of the force vector is the same as the direction of the acceleration vector. This applies to the
design of a bullet. A bullet has low mass with high acceleration behind it, leading to high force on
impact. Newton s Third Law is that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. This law
can be understood as when an individual presses against a wall that they do not fall through the wall as
the wall pushes back against your action.
2) A 10 kg bowling ball is slowing down at a constant rate. In two seconds, its velocity drops from 5
m/s to 4.8 m/s. What is the total force acting on the ball, in N?
Variables: m = mass = 10 kg Vo = initial velocity = 5 m/s V = final velocity = 4.8 m/s t = time of
observation = 2 s a = acceleration = ? m/s2 F = force acting = ? N
Relationships:
a = (V Vo)/t F = ma
Computations:
3) The weight G of an object is BY DEFINITION
G = m*g where g is the acceleration of gravity
Hence g = G/m = 0.3/275 =0.001091 m/s/s

Analysis Of A Room Of One s Own
A Room of One s Own by Virginia Woolf is a narrative that is based upon the twentieth century
feminist concept. She puts a perspective for readers if William Shakespeare was a women or had a
sister. She thoroughly explains how the lifestyle would be like, the characteristics of the woman, and
how they behaved. She goes into further detail about those qualities in her writing. Woolf s writing is
similar to the character Ophelia in the play written by Shakespeare titled Hamlet . Women back in the
day were treated very differently compared to today, they had no rights. Both of the stories covered
similar topic such as women mistreatment, protective parenting, and acts of madness. Women
mistreatment was a very important aspect when it comes to Shakespeare time. Women were treated
like property, they re reputation was very important one slip up and they would be the talk of town,
and they weren t really allowed to do anything. Their main priorities were to take care of the
household and provide for the husband whenever told to do so. In Woolf s narrative women were not
allowed to have any type of jobs or even reach out for their dreams. In the Rooms of One s Own
Judith was trying to pursue her dream working in the theatre it says ...She had a taste for the theatre.

The Effect of Manual Hyperinflation and Suctioning in...
A study was conducted to assess the effect of manual hyperinflation and suctioning in mechanically
ventilated patients to prevent the risk of ventilator associated pneumonia admitted in intensive care
unit of selected hospital, Belgaum, Karnataka A randomised control trial.
Background and objective:
Mechanically ventilated patients are increasingly at the risk of acquiring Ventilator associated
pneumonia (VAP) which is the leading infectious complication, affecting from 8% to 28% of patients
admitted in the intensive care units. Morbidity and mortality associated with the development of VAP
is high, with mortality rates ranging from 20 to 41%.Development of VAP increases ventilator days,
critical care and hospital lengths of stay. Essential airway management is one of the important
interventions to prevent ventilator associated pneumonia. Manual Hyperinflation (MH) enhances
clearance of airway secretions and thereby improved lung compliance, reduced inspiratory resistance,
improved V/Q matching, cleared airway and re expanding the collapsed alveoli. MH could resemble a
forceful cough, with which, sputum could propagate from distal to more proximal areas that is, from
the smaller airways toward the larger airways, where it can be easily removed through endotracheal
suctioning. Hence MH followed by suctioning is considered to be a suitable intervention to prevent
VAP among intubated and mechanically ventilated patients.
The objective of the study was to assess the effect

The Reasons Of The Moon Landing Conspiracy Theory
Moon Landing Conspiracy Theory
On July 20th, 1969, the first man ever stepped on the moon.. Or so we thought, there are many people
who believe moon landings were faked, whether it be apollo Mission 11, 12, or any other number
NASA put on there is up to the public.
Let s start with Apollo Mission 11. July 20th, 1969, One small step for man, one giant leap for

The Flag
The first conspiracy theory being covered is the Flag, When the flag is placed on the moon, it s to be
seen as waving in the air, however, many know that as you start going up through the atmosphere, the
air starts to thin and in space there isn t air for the flag to be waving through. When NASA was
confronted, they responded with saying that there were wrinkles in the flag, my question to NASA is,
if the flag was wrinkled it wouldn t have mattered anyway because, wouldn t the flag have been
drooping?
Photography
Next conspiracy theory is, the photography. There are many pictures showing the astronauts without
cameras or any of those sorts of things. NASA had claimed that cameras were to be placed on chests
yet in a picture of one of the astronauts, no camera is seen, but in the visor you can see the second
astronaut clearly who, you guessed it, doesn t have a camera either. If neither of the two have cameras,
who s is taking these pictures?

Analysis Of Spirited Away By Hayao Miyazaki
When do we truly grow up? In most modern day societies, there is a legal age where young people
legally become adults, in this country it is once the clock strikes 12 on the 18th birthday. In popular
science, becoming mature means your prefrontal cortex has finally fully developed around 24 or 25
years of age for important decision making moments. Others perceive being all grown up when they
move out and are no longer dependent on their parents any longer. In, Hayao Miyazaki s most

Spirited Away is a film that is chock full life lessons. It is very dense in symbolism and filled with

Egyptians lived millions of years ago in Egypt which is in Africa. They were people that believed in
many gods which is called polytheism. They believed in many gods because it was very important to
go to the afterlife. The afterlife was important because they did sacrifices and gave valuable
possessions to prove that they were godly.
Egyptians based their life on gods and where they would be in their afterlife. Invoking gods using
beliefs and practices would help them in their afterlife. They had to overcome many hurdles and saw
this fertile dark mud called Kemet and they called that piece of land The Black Land. They used
hieroglyphics on the walls to represent gods they loved. Hieroglyphics are writing symbols and sound

Symbolism In Rabbit Proof Fence
The 2002 controversial movie, Rabbit Proof Fence, directed by Phillip Noyce, aims to enlighten the
audience about the suffering of Indigenous Australians during The Great Depression. Similar to this,
the 1986 Play No Sugar has the same purpose. Set in Northam, Western Australia, both texts utilise a
first person point of view to explore the hardships of surviving during the Great Depression, but with
vastly different characters. Using different types of characterisation, lighting, flashbacks, dialogue and
symbolism to tell their story, both texts give the audience slightly different views on the Indigenous
people and White Australians.
Rabbit Proof Fence is narrated from the point of view of 14 year old Molly Craig, a half caste
Indigenous girl. Torn from her family, Molly walks 2400km with her cousin and sister in order to find
her way back home to her Mother. The purpose of this movie is to highlight the negative effects of
attempting to assimilate a race that does not want to be a part of the White society. All the Aborigines
wanted was to live their lives the way they always had, without any interference. Noyce s choice to
have an innocent child as the narrator, evokes an empathetic response from the audience. They are

their mothers was not right. Molly is characterised as a strong, stubborn and courageous young girl

The Problem Of Gangs And Violence
The problem of gangs and violence are commonly found in Chicago, especially during the night time.
Although the rate seems to be lower compared to the past, the violence rate is still shocking compared
to other states. Therefore, violence in Chicago s neighborhoods and communities cannot be
overlooked. Statistics show that 1,109 school aged youth were shot, and 216 of those were killed in
2010. As a student of UIC, I often receive crime alert emails as violence cases seemed to occur quite
often around the campus area. In order to improve the public security to ensure residents safety, it is
essential to find ways to solve these issues. It is because violence can cause negative effects in many
different aspects. Besides individual s physical well being, it may also lead to some long term
psychological problems; such as anxiety, eating and sleeping problem. Moreover, violence also affects
the community as it became unsafe to live in. The value of the properties will decrease because the
quality of life became worse.
These days, Chicago launched a cure violence program to help prevent the violence, and this program
is managed by the Chicago Project. The social problem this community intervention is trying to
remedy is to lower down the cases of shooting and killings on the streets. As it could be challenging to
change the individuals behaviors within a short period of time, this program focuses on developing
protecting services towards the population that may have an

Literary Analysis Of August Strindberg s Play Miss Julie
To set up the tone, content, and structure of this sociological analysis of August Strindberg s play Miss
Julie, the following two quotes will be compared and contrasted. One from German economist,
philosopher, and promenade socialist, Karl Marx and another from author, actor, and theatrical
theorist, Jeremy Rockwood. The first quote comes to us from Marx s Manifesto of the Communist
Party, The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles, (Lermert 43). The
second from Rockwood s book The Craftsmen of Dionysus: An Approach to Acting, An exact

No, thank you! Then I have something better myself. Following this he pulls out a bottle of wine
referring to it as pure. He will only indulge in the rituals the class he strives to be apart of does as a
symbolic way of removing himself from his won social standings (Strindberg 3). Marx s quote is
commenting on the class conflict he observed across world cultures. He attributed social stratification,
where oppressors put constant pressure on their oppressed, as the source of conflict. Stratification is
present in all social structures on various gradations and exists on both the large and small sides of the
scale. Within the general overarching classifications, gradation continues to narrow the social position
of people further. Example, in parts of Europe during the middle ages the system in place was the
Feudal System, the king had the most power and agency, while the peasants had the least, in between
were nobles and knights. Inside of each of these groups existed further classifications, within the
peasants category there existed merchants, farmers, craftsmen, serfs, etc.. These smaller titles all held
a different levels of respect, power, and agency. Rockwood was commenting on the intent of
naturalism and realism in the theatre. The most effective purpose, he proposes, is that they are meant
to resemble but heighten real life, never actually replicating it. The job of an artist is to take their
observations

It is a linguistic minority that is worth exploring, with a rich and vibrant language. This language
shapes the community. Daniel S. Koo, a member of this community explains that, ASL exposes
children to the world s knowledge, he says, and it incorporates self esteem and aspects of deaf culture
(Bollag 1). Unlike with Julia, Deaf students who are placed in schools for the deaf, which use sign
language as the primary language during classes, Deaf children do not feel isolated or weird for their
inability to hear. Instead of reaching out to other isolated kids, they walk through their schools making
effortless friendships and learning just as hearing kids do. The only difference? The language they use.
Before ASL was accepted as an official language in these schools, many educators and school
prohibited signing and, students had to wear mittens or sit on their hands as a punishment for signing.
Other schools used more severe reprimands (Oral 1). Because of this history, the modern community
strives to create an environment of open communication, where the stories that are told to friends

close knit community where everyone seems to know everyone. Some parents, aware of this
closeness, opt to learn ASL themselves and immerse themselves into the Deaf community to be a part

Plot and Setting The plot starts out with a little boy name Phillip Pirrip. It is a first person narrative

years. It also deals with who Pip is, and his family. In the beginning of the story Pip introduces

struggles in a child. He has no one to turn to. The author really helped us relate to the story.

uses great figurative language that makes you feel sorry for a character. The people in this book seem
so innocent and harmless. Well, except the guy that threatened Pip. They all also seem to live hard
lives. They don t have all the benefits that we have today. They have to scrounge around for stuff we
never would have to scrounge around for. What is really neat about it, is that they get an enjoyment
out of life. They are not well off either. I can t wait to read on further into Charles Dickens novel.
Vocabulary So far in this novel there is no vocabulary that really comes to mind. I though I would use
this section to talk about figurative language. Charles Dickens uses a lot of figurative language. He
says that when Pip goes up into his room, he is in the dark. Literally that means he does not have a
candle, so therefore he is in the dark. Figuratively we can interpret it in many ways. One way is to say
that Pip isn t a very smart kid. He is and ignorant person. When someone says that someone is in the
dark, they usually mean that they are naΓ―ve. Later on in the story, Pip

Analysis Of In The Next Room Or The Vibrator Play
The Ohio University Theater Division s production of In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play
explored the use of vibration therapy in the early 20th century as a way to cure hysteria. The
playwright Sarah Ruhl beautifully uses the intertwining lives lives of a doctor his patients and his wife
to examine female sexuality, male incompetence, science, marriage, and love. Most of the plot has to
do with female and male patients being treated for hysteria and what outcome the vibrator has on the
lives of the characters in medical and domestic ways. This play really highlights the personal
discovery of sexuality and of women beginning to achieve marital sex that isn t only for their husband
s pleasure. This production of the vibrator play used the contrast of a parlor and a doctor s laboratory
on a rotating set to help the audience understand the constant blend of science and society in a
historical setting.
The rotating set was a unique challenge for this production and while it was a bit distracting at times it
did add a lot to the quality of the production as a whole. There are many instances where the focus
should be on one of the rooms and not the other and to help achieve this very specific blocking is
implemented. For example, there is a scene in the first act where Mrs. Givings sits in the parlor and
hears Mrs. Daldry s moans for the first time as she is being treated in the laboratory. The focus of the
scene is on Mrs. Givings s reaction to the moaning and the flickering

The Importance Of Popular Religion
Popular religion over time has become very common, especially with how much our society focuses
on treating ordinary things as if they are religiously significant to our life. According to Robert
Ellwood, Popular religion can be considered a sector and a very important sector of popular culture.
Two forms of popular religion present themselves: the mainstream religion it is understood and
practiced on the popular level, and religious meaning embedded in ostensibly nonreligious popular
culture, such as making pop culture entertainers or cinematic heroes into religious icons (131).
Baseball has become a huge example of this. Last year, for the first time in 108 years, the Cubs won
the World Series. When this happened, the whole city of Chicago celebrated immensely for this huge
honor given to them.
The Cubs were rewarded for winning the series by being granted a parade in the city of Chicago.
Many things about the parade influenced religious significance. When it comes to religion, individuals
are given certain holidays to celebrate important days. For example, Christmas is a holiday that
celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Usually, adults are given off work, while children are given a
break from school to celebrate this day. This is how the parade was treated. The entire city of Chicago
gave students the day off to be able to go to the parade, although this day is not a holiday at all. The
parade is like a ritual in religion, because of all the things Chicago did that

Which methods will be used to present the operational change?
According to Cummings and Worley (1997) there is a five phase process for managing change,
including: motivating change, creating vision, developing political support, managing the transition,
and sustaining momentum. Motivating change involves creating a work environment that embraces
change and developing approaches to overcome any resistance to change. The general guidelines
include: enlightening members of the organization about the need for change, expressing the current
status of the organization and where it should be in the future, and developing realistic approaches to
change. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly, each Supervisor will have a conversation with the team, rolling out the new performance
appraisal and how the success of sales will be determined. Coaching and training at the supervisor
employee level will continue from there.
How will group and team collaboration facilitate the success of training?
Many times workplaces establish training programs that are focused on individuals completing the
training instead of focusing on team training. With so many changes occurring with the economy and
the communication industry it is important to keep the staff informed of changes that are occurring
and that the whole team is onboard with new training. When training is focused on team collaboration
for the completion of it there are many benefits that will help the team as a whole and the individuals
on achieving success with the new material. Some of the benefits that can be noted with team
collaboration is increased productivity, better team communication skills, brings the team to focus on
the group success rather than just individual, and increases employee engagement. The benefits that
come from team collaboration impact training. When there is a strong collaboration the team is united
and focused on the goal of the training. Through the collaboration the training material can be
discussed and understood by the team as a whole any if any questions come from it they can be
answered. Working as a team to complete training is not just a win for the

Anti Retroviral Drugs For Hiv Essay
HIV is a virus that affects all parts of the globe. However, there are two major global epidemics. The
first being in the west and developing countries. In these areas the pattern of infection is found in
certain groups. These groups being drug injectors, gay men and prostitutes (Pisani p. ) This epidemic
is known as the concentrated epidemic . This particular pattern HIV spreads rapidly in a concentrated
groups. This is because you are most likely to pass on the virus when you are in the first stage of HIV.
In a concentrated tight knit group of people who are having several sex partners and sharing needles
with others it is easy for the virus to be transmitted. The other epidemic pattern is seen in east and
southern Africa as well as some parts of east Africa and the Caribbean. This pattern is also known as
generalised epidemic . This pattern is different because HIV is in the general population appose to a
concentrated population.
2. There are three different classes of anti retroviral drugs for HIV: a) The first class of drugs are
called the entry inhibitors. The entry inhibitors inhibit the HIV virus to bind to the T helper cells, also
called the CD4 T cells. In order for these cells to become infected the virus, the virus has to bind and
enter them. If the binding is eliminated therefore the virus can not enter the cell. b) The second is
called, integrase inhibitors. Once the virus has entered the host cell, it replicates it s DNA into the cell.

Comparison Of Mcdonald s V. Stella Liebeck Case
The details in the McDonald s v. Stella Liebeck case are very similar to the details of the case in Class
Action. However, the legal knowledge surrounding the cases were different. For example, in Class
Action the company Argo knowingly put out a defective car because it was more financially
convenient to pay for settlements than it would have been to recall every single vehicle and fix them.
Similarly, McDonald s was aware that their coffee was held at very hot temperature standards that
were extremely dangerous to their unknowing customers. McDonald s argued on the basis that
consumers preferred hot coffee so it was good for profit (Haltom, McCann 2004). A McDonald s
safety consultant testified that they received 700 complaints of burns ... Show more content on

Additionally, one of the plaintiff s had family members die because of the defective car. They both had
reasonable claims to sue so they both filed a lawsuit against two powerful corporations.
There were differences in the way the case and the prosecution and defendants lawyers were portrayed
in the film and in the McDonald s vs. Liebeck case. Stella Liebeck s case was portrayed as acquisitive
and soon was manipulated to represent the flaws in the civil justice system. The media reconstructed
her case into fragmented bits and transformed it to symbolize the lawsuit crisis (Haltom, McCann
2004). The media left out a great amount of crucial information and evidence that was critical to the
decision making of the jury (Haltom, McCann 2004). In fact, mass media stressed the amount of
money Liebeck was awarded by the jury, and failed to mention that Liebeck actually received less
than 1/5th of what the jury mandated (Haltom, McCann 2004). They also failed to mention the
severity of Liebeck s burns and the extreme heat of the coffee as well as McDonald s complete
disregard for consumer safety (Haltom, McCann 2004). Most general knowledge surrounding the case
is false and in favor of McDonald s perspective.
In Class Action, the plaintiff s attorney was depicted as a civil rights attorney whose main focus was
not to make money. Rather, he was more interested in attacking the establishment and defending
victims who were

Literary Analysis Of Roman Fever
In Roman Fever by Edith Wharton s, Grace Ansley and Alida Slade begin to discuss their past and
present with one another revealing some skeletons in the closet. Wharton wanted the readers to focus
on the betrayal from a so called friend Mrs. Ansley. Furthermore, Wharton wanted the readers to think
about deceit in the story by actively misleading Mrs. Slade. In the end, what was noted to be
miserable, gains notoriety by revealing the ultimate secret.
The setting of Roman Fever takes place in a Roman restaurant terrace. Surrounded by beautiful
sunsets and prior history, It tends to take a toll on both women that leads to a great deal of emotion.
As young aged women in Rome, young Grace was always sweet and quiet. Alida was engaged to
Delphin. Suspecting that her friend may have feelings for her fiancΓ©, Alida wrote a misleading letter to
Grace, requesting that they meet at the Colosseum, signed with Delphin Slades initials. However, the
temperatures near the Forum and Colosseum at night can be brutal, and young Grace is liable to
become ill. It ultimately led to Grace and Alida s friendship to deteriorate.
One can find it rather difficult to believe that these two women were actually childhood companions.
They appear to be the opposite of one another. Mrs. Slade, who is described as fuller, and higher in
color, with a small determined nose supported with vigorous black eyebrows, (Wharton) seems to be
as arrogant and envious of Mrs. Ansley. Mrs. Ansley, however, was

Judicial Branch Importance
Under the constitution of the United States we split the power of the government up into three
sections, Executive Legislative and Judicial. The Judicial Branch is one though of extreme importance
basically because it sets the standards of right and wrong in a sense. At the top of the Judicial branch
sits the Supreme Court which consists of 9 Justices, one supreme and 8 associate which could be
subject to change by congress (Brief Overview of the Supreme Court). There is one justice though
whom stands out when I think of the Supreme Court ant that is Earl Warren. A self made man, Chief
Justice Earl Warren transformed the judicial system during a tumultuous time for American politics.

  • 2. Physical Evidence As Document Buckland s article raises the question of what is a Document . Buckland gathers opinions from different articles and documentalists, and explains from different perspectives. From my point of view, I agree the opinion of Physical Evidence as Document. (Buckland 1997) The document should not be a natural object or element without any human interpretation or reproduction. It s true that as mentioned in the article, stones like fossils, are documents but they are natural objects. However, these stones can convey or express information with human interpretation. For example, the fossils can tell the existence of an animal, and the life condition in that era. In the article of Enduring Paradigm, New Opportunities written by Anne J. Gilliland Swetland, ... • 4. How Did Indi Build Agile Animals Many years ago, long before humans were around, animals roamed Africa. There were tigers, lions, bears, elephants, spiders, and so on and so on. The tigers were the kings of Africa and did whatever they wanted wherever they wanted. Their leader was Indi and he told all the tigers what to do and how to act. All other animals envied the big cats for their beautiful orange fur and long envious tails. Siberias, god of life, favored them over all other creatures that she created. They were one of the strongest and most agile creatures she had created and she loved them as her own. The one thing she wishes was different was that they were not as self centered and rude. Indi and his streak got away with too many things and they did not like to listen. Indi believed that rules did not apply to tigers. One day Siberias decided to make more animals for Africa. She had created gemsboks, antelope, cows, wildebeests, and other horse like creatures. She even decided to create some sea creatures for her lakes. Siberias most proved new animals were her zebras, giraffes, and pufferfish. Siberias decreed that the tigers and other big cats were allowed to eat any animal they wanted except for her new most prised possessions. If they did, there would be terrible consequences. ... • 5. Student Loan Debt And High Cost Of Education AMERICAN INNOVATION, TOO EXPENSIVE TO EARN Although millions of college students graduate each year, many of them are not successful after their education. Many jump in without knowing what they want to do and at the end once they have their degree they realize that it wasn t what they wanted. Now they have thousands of dollars in debt and a degree they dislike or a degree so common it earns them but a dollar or two more than a high school diploma would. Some can t even find job, yet they have the burden to pay back student loans, but what if we as students did not have the burden of debt? Would that make a difference? Could pursing a second degree be more feasible without the burden of expanding your debt? Student loan debt and high cost of education has become a huge issue in this country, they are deterring individuals from pursuing a degree, at times prolongs their education time frame and more often than not we are left with a huge debt to pay. I believe this deterrent is gradually affecting the number of innovators in our country. How can we fix this? With interest rates as high as 9.37% through SallieMae one of the leaders in financing education, student loan debt has become a big business at the expense of the American people that want to better themselves. The national student loan debt surpassed 1 trillion dollars with the average individual debt being thirty thousand dollars. It is obvious why giving an education is more a business than a service. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Dreams Of Dreams By Carl Jung Every night people lay their heads down to rest in hopes of having a good night s sleep and as you sleep during the night, dreams occur. Some remember more than others. However, a dream is always present even if you may think it is not. The curiosity of dreams is what started the popularity of dream interpretation. People wanted to know what they meant and how they were getting there which drove psychologists to go out and study them. (The Dream Experience Chapter 1) Dreams are a very complex topic because of the various meanings for their appearance. Theories vary from dream simply being apart of a biological cycle that occurs during sleep to theories, or like Sigmund Freud s who believed that there is a deeper meaning behind dreams that is driven by sexual aggression. Carl Jung s theory is also very popular because of its acceptance. Jung, in general, believed dreams had a different meaning from what the dream actually shows. Several theories and several explanations for dream causes great disagreement between scientists and psychologists. (You are What you Dream) Throughout time, however, other theories of dreaming have come about after Freud s. Freud s theory is, to this say, questioned, by psychologists around the world. Is Freud s theory still hold up in the 21st century? Freud s theory of dreams which is extremely abstract when it relates to other theories such as Carl Jung s and Allan Hobson and Robert McCarley. Which means that BP disorder has been predominantly treated pharmacologically. Pharmacological treatment of BP disorder is not to be underestimated, but it is also not to be considered the first and last option of treatment. Research has shown that the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (along with various other treatments) combined with pharmacological treatment has been shown to have better efficacy than each of these approaches separately (Singleton, 2006). Blood levels must be check regularly to make sure that the lithium is within therapeutic levels to avoid lithium poisoning (Jann M. W., 2014). The next pharmacological treatment that will be discussed is probably the most controversial treatment for BP disorder, and that is antidepressants. Antidepressant are not a FDA accepted treatment for BP disorder and the efficacy of this treatment is questionable. Antidepressant may be used on patients with BP disorder, it is not advised to use them on patients with a history of rapid cycling (of symptoms). This paper s aim is look at musicians who impacted this era, exploring more in depth Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker. In the early 1940 s, the swing bands began to all sound the same as well as work along predictable chord changes.1 The music was now not used for dancing. Some people believed that this would let the music go away from the elite social groups, and now be for everybody. The West Memphis Three Case Analysis The Case of the West Memphis Three involves the three teenage boys accused and convicted of murdering Michael Moore, Stevie Branch, and Christopher Byers in West Memphis, Arkansas on May 5th, 1993. The investigation, trial, and appeals that followed would put the Arkansas criminal justice system under scrutiny for their actions. Many outsiders got involved with the West Memphis Three case. Among these outsiders were famous musicians Eddy Vedder, lead singer of Pearl Jam and Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks, famous actors including Johnny Depp, and superstar director Peter Jackson. • 16. Bursitis Research Paper The disorder/disease I decided to write about is called Bursitis. By definition, Bursitis are caused when bursae, a fluid filled sac at the joints, gets inflamed. A person with Bursitis will have trouble with movement or pressure because the fluid filled sacs help pressure and lubricate points between our tendons, bones, and muscles located near our joints; allowing movement in joints without much friction. When a person has Bursitis, their fluid filled sac gets inflamed so movement and pressure will cause pain. In our human body, the shoulder, elbow, ankle, knee, buttocks, hips, and thigh are the most common parts of our body that are likely to experience Bursitis. Why? Because those are a few places where joints can be found. Bursitis is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Merchant Of Venice Analysis William Shakespeare s comedy The Merchant of Venice tells the story of Antonio, a merchant, who borrows money from Shylock a Jewish moneylender to help his friend, Bassanio, marry a woman. The play highlights the tension between Jews and Christians in society through the interactions between Shylock and the Christians. In contrast, the play also highlights the positive aspects of both religions. The main point of The Merchant of Venice is to critique society s treatment of religion. Shakespeare criticizes society s output on Judaism through his play with the characters Shylock and Jessica. Shylock and Jessica are seen as outsiders in Venice and are discriminated by the Christian characters in the play for being Jewish. For instance, Gratiano describes Jessica, a former Jew, as an infidel (III.ii.223) despite converting and marrying a Christian. By calling Jessica an infidel , Gratiano is implying that she isn t a true Christian and is still a Jew. Later in the play, Jessica is also told there s no mercy in heaven.. (III.v.31) because she was Jewish. This statement evokes the idea all Jews are sinful and can t enter heaven. The two examples above show how Jews are seen as inferior to Christians in the play. Because of this bigotry, Shylock is vengeful toward Antonio with his bond. When he finds out about Antonio s lost ships, he exclaims: I ll plague him, I ll torture him. I am glad of it. (III.i.115 116). This line demonstrates the stereotypical image of Jews that Christians see. What Shylock says relates to the 16th century where Christians often believed that Jews used their blood in religious ceremonies. By saying he ll torture and plague Antonio, Shylock is conforming with the negative image society has of him. However, Shakespeare also paints Shylock as a human character treated unfairly by the Christians in Venice. After finding out that his daughter Jessica eloped to a Christian man, Shylock delivers a powerful speech about Jews being equals: Hath not a Jew hands, organs, dimensions, senses, affections, passions? Fed with the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject to the same diseases [...]as a Christian is? (III.i.48 54). This speech presents to the audience that Shylock is human ... • 22. America s Fascination with Serial Killers As Boorstin identified, we choose who is famous by our attention, what they do in fact is not what determines their fate. Fame is no longer about the deed behind it, but simply the spectacle Hitler made the cover of Time magazine seven times, Stalin following with 12 covers of his own. The line between people we love to love and people we love to hate is becoming thinner and blurred, so we thrust not only heroes into the public view but also villains . This confusion between fame and celebrity owes a lot to the change in newspapers over time; where once they delivered unbiased and detailed factual accounts on events that happened, in the new age of mass media they began to compete with the magazines. Tabloidisation meant that rather than objective articles based on fact we were instead victim to the murder hype , with sensation fuelled stories about the latest fashionable murder trial, the papers giving the killers their own stage name and persona to match. The idea of giving serial killers their own moniker is something that has contributed tremendously to the glamorisation of killers, because it is much like a stage name that you would give an actor or a singer. The names can either relate to the act or style of killings i.e Jack The Ripper, which conjures a mental image of the killer at work or could be to do with their location as in The Boston Strangler . A real world example of this is that a soccer ball does not move until it is kicked. Newton s Second Law is that the relationship between an object s mass m, its acceleration a, and the applied force F is F = ma. Acceleration and force are vectors; in this law the direction of the force vector is the same as the direction of the acceleration vector. This applies to the design of a bullet. A bullet has low mass with high acceleration behind it, leading to high force on impact. Newton s Third Law is that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Background and objective: Mechanically ventilated patients are increasingly at the risk of acquiring Ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) which is the leading infectious complication, affecting from 8% to 28% of patients admitted in the intensive care units. Morbidity and mortality associated with the development of VAP is high, with mortality rates ranging from 20 to 41%.Development of VAP increases ventilator days, critical care and hospital lengths of stay. Essential airway management is one of the important interventions to prevent ventilator associated pneumonia. Manual Hyperinflation (MH) enhances clearance of airway secretions and thereby improved lung compliance, reduced inspiratory resistance, improved V/Q matching, cleared airway and re expanding the collapsed alveoli. MH could resemble a forceful cough, with which, sputum could propagate from distal to more proximal areas that is, from the smaller airways toward the larger airways, where it can be easily removed through endotracheal suctioning. Similar to this, the 1986 Play No Sugar has the same purpose. Set in Northam, Western Australia, both texts utilise a first person point of view to explore the hardships of surviving during the Great Depression, but with vastly different characters. Using different types of characterisation, lighting, flashbacks, dialogue and symbolism to tell their story, both texts give the audience slightly different views on the Indigenous people and White Australians. Rabbit Proof Fence is narrated from the point of view of 14 year old Molly Craig, a half caste Indigenous girl. Torn from her family, Molly walks 2400km with her cousin and sister in order to find her way back home to her Mother. The purpose of this movie is to highlight the negative effects of attempting to assimilate a race that does not want to be a part of the White society. All the Aborigines wanted was to live their lives the way they always had, without any interference. Noyce s choice to have an innocent child as the narrator, evokes an empathetic response from the audience. They are able to imagine their children in Molly s situation and realise that stealing the Aborigine children from their mothers was not right. Molly is characterised as a strong, stubborn and courageous young girl who does everything she can to make it back ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Problem Of Gangs And Violence The problem of gangs and violence are commonly found in Chicago, especially during the night time. Although the rate seems to be lower compared to the past, the violence rate is still shocking compared to other states. Therefore, violence in Chicago s neighborhoods and communities cannot be overlooked. Statistics show that 1,109 school aged youth were shot, and 216 of those were killed in 2010. As a student of UIC, I often receive crime alert emails as violence cases seemed to occur quite often around the campus area. In order to improve the public security to ensure residents safety, it is essential to find ways to solve these issues. It is because violence can cause negative effects in many different aspects. Besides individual s physical well being, it may also lead to some long term psychological problems; such as anxiety, eating and sleeping problem. Moreover, violence also affects the community as it became unsafe to live in. The value of the properties will decrease because the quality of life became worse. These days, Chicago launched a cure violence program to help prevent the violence, and this program is managed by the Chicago Project. The social problem this community intervention is trying to remedy is to lower down the cases of shooting and killings on the streets. As it could be challenging to change the individuals behaviors within a short period of time, this program focuses on developing protecting services towards the population that may have an ... Literary Analysis Of August Strindberg s Play Miss Julie To set up the tone, content, and structure of this sociological analysis of August Strindberg s play Miss Julie, the following two quotes will be compared and contrasted. One from German economist, philosopher, and promenade socialist, Karl Marx and another from author, actor, and theatrical theorist, Jeremy Rockwood. The first quote comes to us from Marx s Manifesto of the Communist Party, The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles, (Lermert 43). The second from Rockwood s book The Craftsmen of Dionysus: An Approach to Acting, An exact duplication of real life is not the purpose of the theatre nor of any art. Following this he pulls out a bottle of wine referring to it as pure. He will only indulge in the rituals the class he strives to be apart of does as a symbolic way of removing himself from his won social standings (Strindberg 3). Marx s quote is commenting on the class conflict he observed across world cultures. He attributed social stratification, where oppressors put constant pressure on their oppressed, as the source of conflict. Stratification is present in all social structures on various gradations and exists on both the large and small sides of the scale. Within the general overarching classifications, gradation continues to narrow the social position of people further. Example, in parts of Europe during the middle ages the system in place was the Feudal System, the king had the most power and agency, while the peasants had the least, in between were nobles and knights. Inside of each of these groups existed further classifications, within the peasants category there existed merchants, farmers, craftsmen, serfs, etc.. These smaller titles all held a different levels of respect, power, and agency. Rockwood was commenting on the intent of naturalism and realism in the theatre. The most effective purpose, he proposes, is that they are meant to resemble but heighten real life, never actually replicating it. The job of an artist is to take their observations ... Cochlear implants are approved by the FDA for implantation into children as young as two years old (FDA). A hearing parent with a new deaf child is faced with choosing between two distinct lifestyles and paths for their children within weeks; oral or manual. The oral method relies on lip reading, mainstream schools, and nowadays, cochlear implants or hearing aids. The manual method relies on sign language, residential schools, and accepting Deafness as a culture worth nurturing. Both methods have their strong suits. Both have their weak points. This language shapes the community. Daniel S. Koo, a member of this community explains that, ASL exposes children to the world s knowledge, he says, and it incorporates self esteem and aspects of deaf culture (Bollag 1). Unlike with Julia, Deaf students who are placed in schools for the deaf, which use sign language as the primary language during classes, Deaf children do not feel isolated or weird for their inability to hear. Instead of reaching out to other isolated kids, they walk through their schools making effortless friendships and learning just as hearing kids do. The only difference? The language they use. Before ASL was accepted as an official language in these schools, many educators and school prohibited signing and, students had to wear mittens or sit on their hands as a punishment for signing. Other schools used more severe reprimands (Oral 1). Because of this history, the modern community strives to create an environment of open communication, where the stories that are told to friends could be seen as oversharing to hearing people unused to Deaf culture. But this environment creates a close knit community where everyone seems to know everyone. Some parents, aware of this closeness, opt to learn ASL themselves and immerse themselves into the Deaf community to be a part of their child s source of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a first person narrative about a boy back in the nineteenth century. The first eight chapters deal mostly with Pip s childhood years. It also deals with who Pip is, and his family. In the beginning of the story Pip introduces himself, and introduces his dead parents. He is in the graveyard, and then a scary looking man comes up. The man threatens him. The plot of the story I think is good because it deals a lot with the struggles in a child. He has no one to turn to. The author really helped us relate to the story. Personal Response So far I really enjoy the book. Charles Dickens really pulls me into the book. He uses great figurative language that makes you feel sorry for a character. The people in this book seem so innocent and harmless. Well, except the guy that threatened Pip. They all also seem to live hard lives. They don t have all the benefits that we have today. They have to scrounge around for stuff we never would have to scrounge around for. What is really neat about it, is that they get an enjoyment out of life. They are not well off either. I can t wait to read on further into Charles Dickens novel. Vocabulary So far in this novel there is no vocabulary that really comes to mind. I though I would use this section to talk about figurative language. Charles Dickens uses a lot of figurative language. He says that when Pip goes up into his room, he is in the dark. Literally that means he does not have a candle, so therefore he is in the dark. Figuratively we can interpret it in many ways. One way is to say that Pip isn t a very smart kid. He is and ignorant person. When someone says that someone is in the dark, they usually mean that they are naΓ―ve. Later on in the story, Pip ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Analysis Of In The Next Room Or The Vibrator Play The Ohio University Theater Division s production of In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play explored the use of vibration therapy in the early 20th century as a way to cure hysteria. The playwright Sarah Ruhl beautifully uses the intertwining lives lives of a doctor his patients and his wife to examine female sexuality, male incompetence, science, marriage, and love. Most of the plot has to do with female and male patients being treated for hysteria and what outcome the vibrator has on the lives of the characters in medical and domestic ways. This play really highlights the personal discovery of sexuality and of women beginning to achieve marital sex that isn t only for their husband s pleasure. This production of the vibrator play used the contrast of a parlor and a doctor s laboratory on a rotating set to help the audience understand the constant blend of science and society in a historical setting. The rotating set was a unique challenge for this production and while it was a bit distracting at times it did add a lot to the quality of the production as a whole. There are many instances where the focus should be on one of the rooms and not the other and to help achieve this very specific blocking is implemented. For example, there is a scene in the first act where Mrs. Givings sits in the parlor and hears Mrs. Daldry s moans for the first time as she is being treated in the laboratory. The focus of the scene is on Mrs. Givings s reaction to the moaning and the flickering ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Importance Of Popular Religion Popular religion over time has become very common, especially with how much our society focuses on treating ordinary things as if they are religiously significant to our life. According to Robert Ellwood, Popular religion can be considered a sector and a very important sector of popular culture. Two forms of popular religion present themselves: the mainstream religion it is understood and practiced on the popular level, and religious meaning embedded in ostensibly nonreligious popular culture, such as making pop culture entertainers or cinematic heroes into religious icons (131). Baseball has become a huge example of this. Last year, for the first time in 108 years, the Cubs won the World Series. When this happened, the whole city of Chicago celebrated immensely for this huge honor given to them. The Cubs were rewarded for winning the series by being granted a parade in the city of Chicago. Many things about the parade influenced religious significance. When it comes to religion, individuals are given certain holidays to celebrate important days. For example, Christmas is a holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Usually, adults are given off work, while children are given a break from school to celebrate this day. This is how the parade was treated. The entire city of Chicago gave students the day off to be able to go to the parade, although this day is not a holiday at all. The parade is like a ritual in religion, because of all the things Chicago did that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Anti Retroviral Drugs For Hiv Essay HIV is a virus that affects all parts of the globe. However, there are two major global epidemics. The first being in the west and developing countries. In these areas the pattern of infection is found in certain groups. These groups being drug injectors, gay men and prostitutes (Pisani p. ) This epidemic is known as the concentrated epidemic . This particular pattern HIV spreads rapidly in a concentrated groups. This is because you are most likely to pass on the virus when you are in the first stage of HIV. In a concentrated tight knit group of people who are having several sex partners and sharing needles with others it is easy for the virus to be transmitted. The other epidemic pattern is seen in east and southern Africa as well as some parts of east Africa and the Caribbean. This pattern is also known as generalised epidemic . This pattern is different because HIV is in the general population appose to a concentrated population. 2. There are three different classes of anti retroviral drugs for HIV: a) The first class of drugs are called the entry inhibitors. The entry inhibitors inhibit the HIV virus to bind to the T helper cells, also called the CD4 T cells. In order for these cells to become infected the virus, the virus has to bind and enter them. If the binding is eliminated therefore the virus can not enter the cell. b) The second is called, integrase inhibitors. Once the virus has entered the host cell, it replicates it s DNA into the cell. Stella Liebeck s case was portrayed as acquisitive and soon was manipulated to represent the flaws in the civil justice system. The media reconstructed her case into fragmented bits and transformed it to symbolize the lawsuit crisis (Haltom, McCann 2004). The media left out a great amount of crucial information and evidence that was critical to the decision making of the jury (Haltom, McCann 2004). Wharton wanted the readers to focus on the betrayal from a so called friend Mrs. Ansley. Furthermore, Wharton wanted the readers to think about deceit in the story by actively misleading Mrs. Slade. In the end, what was noted to be miserable, gains notoriety by revealing the ultimate secret. The setting of Roman Fever takes place in a Roman restaurant terrace.
