How Did Emily Dickinson Influence Her Work
Emily Dickinson is currently considered one of the most famous American authors, despite the
fact that her work was not well known in her own day. Emily was notable to American Literature,
and she sealed the road for several of today s poets. She was a creative poet, determined writer, and
an extreme introvert who never gave up. Emily Dickinsonwas born on December 10, 1830 and
passed away at age 55 on May 15, 1886. ( Emily Famous). Having grown up in poverty, it
influenced her poems greatly. Emily Dickinson s father, Edward Dickinson, was a lawyer, a
member of Congress, and the treasurer of Amherst College ( Emily Encyclopedia). Dickinson s
mother, Emily Norcross Dickinson was from Monson ( Emily Famous). Dickinson was the middle

It is very popular because she uses this metaphor through a bird, showing that even in the hard
times we should still have hope ( Emily Study). Theres many reasons why this poem is so
popular, one being the way she puts commas around the word hope (O Connor). Hope is the
Thing with Feathers is also a very positive poem, and many people feel as if it speaks right to the
heart (O Connor). There is a lot of reviews saying that it just has a pleasant type of message (O
Connor). Many people also find it a very good description of hope, and many people love it
because they feel as if they can relate to it (O Connor). This poem was published in 1891 in the
2nd collection of Dickinson s work, Poems by Emily Dickinson, second series ( Hope
Encyclopedia). My opinion of Hope is the Thing with Feathers would have to be that she was
very clear with her message. Not only do I feel that I can relate to it, I feel as if many other
people can relate to it. That poems main point is about hope and how you should believe in it
whenever things are not looking up for you, and I think that is very true. Many times people get
discouraged and think that there is nothing left but there is, and it is hope. I highly agree with
Dickinson in her poem Hope is the Thing with Feathers . Other people who have written reviews
on the poem say that it gives them chills, and that they adored this poem

Mohammad Iqbal (2012) Many pet lovers have struggle when they take care of
their pet/s because pets needs to be given a lot of attention, especially
when it comes to feeding them on time to keep them healthy. It is very hard
for people who spend too much time on their work to be able to take care of
their pet most of the time. However, with the help of the automatic pet
feeder, things will be a lot easier. Pet lovers can avail the facility of
automatic feeding with the arranged feeding schedule or by simply sending SMS
commands to feed into the automatic tool. The SMS feature does not only
control the feed, but it can also be used to check the feeding schedule and
the status of the food on the tool in real time. The tool has an accurate
timing system that the feeding process can be done in a timely

Classroom Management Plan Essay
Classroom Management Plan
Establishing a well organized plan for classroom management, at the beginning of the year, is
essential for a peaceful and calm classroom that is conducive to instruction and learning for students
with a variety of academic, social, and behavior needs. Team Green created the classroom
management plan that follows. The collaborative group agreed that the evaluation of the student
and their behaviors are essential in promoting positive desired behaviors. Room arrangement,
classroom rules, routine and transition, as well as positive reinforcement rewards/success of task
should be evaluated and adapted to encourage positive behavior.

Classroom Rules
Simple classroom rules created by the class will provide ownership and understanding. A daily
review of the rules will reinforce expectations. The first week of each quarter will include a
review of the explanations for the rules to reinforce the importance of rules. They will be posted
throughout the classroom as reminders for the entire class. Johnny will have a visual
representation taped to the top of his desk for continual cuing of expected behavior. (Sprick,
Garrison Howard, 1998).
All students will receive cueing when displaying minor disruptive behaviors. Students that display
more disruptive behaviors such as those causing the class to stop, running around the room,
throwing items in the room, or hitting will receive consequences (giving up their job, not earning a
star, may not participate in particular activities) for their behavior. Students that display proper
behavior will be reinforced with encouragement. (Sprick, Garrison Howard, 1998).
Classroom Routine and Transitions
The use of routines and transition plans are essential in managing student behaviors. We will
develop routines and transition plans that deter disruptive behaviors, such as Johnny s.
The beginning class routine will include playing quiet, calming music while

This Time Magazine Fred Ritchen Analysis
In this Time Magazine article, writer Fred Ritchen debates the merit of violent photos in media. He
begins with the events that prompted him to write this essay. He lists A recent slew of situations
resulting in catastrophic violence and death (Ritchen, p1). This grouping of events, ranging from
disease to plane crashes, has brought to light again the question of what a journalist s duty is in
reference of how much of a horror to show and how much to keep from the public. Ritchen s
argument culminates to the fact that the space taken up by showing these horrors of war and
similar atrocities could be better used to prevent further events. The first argument that Ritchen
brings up is the idea that those who refrain from posting a photo because... Show more content on

We consider the readers and their effect on the debate that, essentially, is of them. He makes the
point that, a grieving mother in Gaza deserves the whole world s attention (Ritchen, 3), but the
consequences of showing everything that deserves to be shown outweigh the benefits. Showing
all of the horrors that the world has to offer can cause a desensitivity to them as the reader tries
to disconnect (Ritchen, 3). He gives a personal example of how hearing about these travesties
causes already such a large scar on his psyche, that a picture serves to do nothing but cause more
pain. He contrasts the ideas made earlier in the essay of owing the victims of horrors to have
their stories told by making an argument that it is just as important to ensure that those stories
have their full effect. The reader of the essay considers their own experiences and most likely
comes to the same conclusion that when confronted with all of the horrors, they are
overwhelmed, but a small taste of each can strike the perfect balance. The sharing of a story in
words gives a sense of wrong that exists in the world and refraining from shocking the reader can
give them a sense of ability to change. It has a better chance of sparking an idea in a reader to call
their representative and

Light-Evoked Reaction Essay
In addition to using whole cell voltage clamp to detect light evoked response, we can also utilize
the voltage sensitive dye (VSD), bis (1,3 dibutylbarbituric acid) [DiBAC4(3)]6, to observe the
depolarization after light stimulation. VSD provides a real time neural activity monitor with high
temporal resolution (ms) and high spatial resolution (20 um)16. According to previous study, DRG
neurons that had incubated in DiBAC4(3) solution and had received UVR stimulation exhibited
increased fluorescent intensity6. Therefore, it serves as an additional method to detect light evoked
response for investigating inhibition of which class of G proteinaffect DRG phototransduction based

Base on the cDNA fragments that encodes helical domain of G protein which characterizes a
specific class, we will obtain a list of G proteins that might involve in the signaling transduction
of opsin X. Then we further examine the role of each class of G protein on light response for opsin
X. 3) some GPCR signaling cascade also be activated by ОІП’ subunit of G protein such as
regulation pathway of G protein gated inward rectifier potassium (GIRK) channel and GОІОі PLC

phototransduction.
Aim 2. To determine the effective enzyme involved in the GPCR signaling pathway. Effective
enzyme is another key component in GPCR signaling pathway, so we will further determine the
effective enzyme in the opsin X driven phototransduction. Opsin mediated G protein coupled
signaling cascades include four major types: 1) Gt phosphodiesterase (PDE) phototransduction
pathway (fig.1 A) in rods and cones, 2) Go Guanylate cyclase (GC) phototransduction pathway
(fig.1 B) in scallop visual cells, 3) Gq PLC phototransduction pathway (fig.1 C) in fly

on this project for the first year, in hopes that there will be funds left over from this project as a
salary may never actually be paid from these funds in 2016. To fully understand the limitations, and
possible cooperative scenarios, assumptions should be vetted for budgeting accuracy. Assumed
increases in costs to the organization include: general liability insurance, travel costs and per diems,
contracted attorney fees, payroll, taxes, benefits, and worker s compensation insurance, and the
necessity to ass an errors and omissions insurance policy, as medical recommendations pose a new

Enthalpy Of Combustion Of Magnesium Lab Report
Conclusion: In this lab, a calorimeter was used to find the enthalpy of reaction for two reactions,
the first was between magnesium and 1 molar hydrochloric acid, and the second was between
magnesium oxide and 1 molar hydrochloric acid. After the enthalpy for both of these were found,
Hess law was used to find the molar enthalpyof combustion of magnesium, using the enthalpies for
the two previous reactions and the enthalpy of formation for water. The enthalpy of reaction for
the magnesium + hydrochloric acid reaction was found to be 812.76 kJ. The enthalpy of reaction
for the magnesium oxide + hydrochloric acid reaction was found to be 111.06 kJ. These two
enthalpies and the enthalpy of formation for water were manipulated and added together using
Hess s law to get the molar enthalpy of combustion of magnesium. It was found that the molar
enthalpy of combustion of magnesium was 987.5 kJ/mol. The accepted enthalpy was 601.6 kJ/mol,
which means that there is a percent difference of 64%. This percent difference is very high which
indicates that this type of experiment is very inefficient for finding the molar enthalpy of
combustion of magnesium. Most likely, a there are many errors in this simple calorimeter
experiment that make it inefficient for finding the molar enthalpy of combustion of magnesium.
Error Analysis: One possible source of error that can affect the results was that a mercury
thermometer was used instead of an electronic one. The use of a mercury

How Does Police Brutality On Children Affect How Society...
Imagine a young child screaming at the top of their lungs while being carried away, at what
looks like to be against their will. Many children have been removed from areas and even arrested
by police officers who have used unnecessary physical force on the child. Majority of these
altercations between the child and police, the child was unarmed, being cooperative, and not being
violent towards the police officer. When has there ever been a time where it was a justifiable right
to harm a child that isn t causing any physical harm to themselves or others? In this image one can
note that the young boy is terrified while being forcefully removed by authoritative figures, and
one of the officers seem to find the situation to be humorous. The boy was so scared that he
urinated on himself. It s obvious that the child is defenseless and shows no sign of hurting anyone,
but yet the officers choose to handle the situation with unnecessary force. How does police brutality
on children affect how society portrays law enforcement? Have children been traumatized after
having to go through the experience of being physically or even verbally harmed by an officer?
Are the children given justice for this injustice act by police? Police assert themselves,
assumingly as helpful, caring, and always doing what is right for the great or good of mankind,
but this image highlights police officers often behave otherwise. For example, a police officer

The Church On Earth
For the Church on earth is endowed already with a sanctity that is real but imperfect. 1 Throughout
history, God has used many events, personalities and desicions to bring his pilgrim Church closer to
the fullness of sanctity He desires for it. Although throughout history the Church has found herself
confronted with controversy, pain and the imperfect nature of humanity, these moments often
brought opportunities for God to manifest Himself in ways that continue to impact Catholics today.
The Holy Spirit s intervention in dark times has allowed the Church to continue forward. It has
impacted history as a whole, bringing light to a world covered by the cloud of sin. Within this

In this way, St. Paul practiced inculturation, which we continue to see around the world. There are
so many rich and beautiful articulations of the Catholic faith around the world, which not take
away from the universiality of the Church, but rather displays it. St. Paul encouraged this as he
founded churches in different areas, guiding them through the unique challenges of each culture.
This is shown in his letters, as each carries a special significance to those whom he directly
addressed (i.e. Letter to the Romans, Letter to the Hebrews). Even so, they still apply to us today.
His theological insights into the life and teachings of Christ are the foundation upon which many of
doctrines stand, including the Catholic understanding of suffering in union with Christ. Also, St.
Paul s own conversion from persecutor to apostle powerfully reminds us that it is never too late to
turn to Christ. My birthday is the feast of St. Paul s conversion. Personally, St. Paul s teachings,
written two thousand years ago, still speak truth into my life, inspiring me daily to trust that where
sin abounded, grace abounds all the more. 2 The Marian apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe

Residential Schools In Residential Schools
From 1863 to 1996, many Indigenous child were forced to attend residential schools, where they
were separated from their families and culture and experienced neglect, abuse and trauma (Bombay,
Matheson, Anisman, 2011, p.367). This essay will explore the history and purpose of residential
schools, how it impacted Indigenous children and families at the time of the events, and how to this
day it still affects them. Indigenous Residential Schools impacted the First Peoples of Canada
physically, mentally and emotionally which resulted in their loss of identity, culture, spirituality, and
traditions in the past and present.
History and Purpose:
Indigenous Residential Schools were experimented in parts of Canada was early as the 1620s but
they had very minimal success in accomplishing what they wanted. Missionaries ran the residential
school but found it hard to recruit students, keep them at school, and they complained that they
could not physically punish the children. The state got involved in the schooling of Indigenous
children after Canada became a country in 1867 (Blackburn, 2012, p. 290). Canadian residential
schools were also inspired by a similar practice in the USA in the 1880s. Their plan was to
assimilate Indigenous children into Euro Canadian culture. The schools were operated by Christian
churches and they thought that by removing Indigenous children from their parents and
communities they would be more quickly assimilated (Woods, 2013, p. 173 174). Figure 1

Gross Negligence Manslaughter And Homicide Manslaughter
Gross Negligence Manslaughter is a form of involuntary manslaughter in which in which the
persons charged has caused a death without the mens rea of murder. Involuntary manslaughter being
unintentional killings due to recklessness, criminal negligence or an unlawful act that is a
misdemeanour or low level felony. Gross negligence manslaughter is categorised as not committing
an unlawful act but a defendant committing a lawful act in a manor that is considered criminal.
Gross negligence manslaughter can also be committed through not doing something as to result in
death. Gross negligence manslaughter was initially set out in R v. Bateman (1925) in which a
doctor was convicted of manslaughter due to his treatment of a woman during childbirth. The term
gross negligence manslaughter was then more so interpreted that in order to ascertain criminal
liability, the jury must agree that the level of negligence of the accused is beyond compensation
alone and that it is criminal to act so thoughtlessly towards the life and well being of others. This
interpretation was deemed inadequate and later updated to a then considered better interpretation
and a large area of gross negligence manslaughter was replaced with reckless manslaughter. This
interpretation was again contested due to the R v. Seymour (1983) case when the defendant
intended to push their girlfriends car with a lorry, which subsequently resulted in accidental death
of the girlfriend. The judge directed that the jury

valuable lesson about hard work. I have never been tall or even average height. The average height
is around 5 5 and I am 4 11 . I am at a bigger disadvantage in sports where the average height is 5 8
. This puts me at an extreme disadvantage. But out of this disadvantage I learned that if I work

was because only about 8 kids tried out and we had to find kids to come play with us. I realized
fast that baseball would be hard and challenging. I had to be either a lead off hitter or the last
guy in the order because I couldn t hit the ball hard enough to be a power hitter. I also had to
work harder in the field because I couldn t throw the ball nearly as far or hard as most kids. This
was a big challenge for me that I had to overcome. So I started working, I also wanted to be a
pitcher too, so I had to learn how to do that as well. I would throw on one day the next day would
be hitting then the last day was pitching. Throwing, hitting, pitching, over and over again for the
last month and half of summer. Then by the end of summer I had the skills necessary to compete
with the larger kids my age and have a chance to play the positions I wanted in catcher and
shortstop. This made me extremely happy, but our record did not. We only won 6 out of about
30 games. The next year we were better and we continued to improve as a team every year and
we are now winning about 66% of our games. This has taught me that hard work by myself and as

Framing Theory Paper
The attendance quiz question regarding losing and saving lives exhibits the framing theory. This
case scenario defines the framing theory because of the obvious variance in the language used to
describe the same outcome. The framing theory is that by emphasizing a situation or title using a
certain context of wording will activate a certain shelf to influence someone s decision or thought
process.
Therefore, framing is integral to this topic of because choosing to emphasize words such as saving

from seeing they have the same outcome. This studies framing connects information to our

For example, 200 people will be saved versus 400 people will die is merely reframed it to sound
more appealing on a certain side. Therefore, this moral question about gaining or losing is focusing
us to think about our decision in the event of a catastrophic incident in which we need to weight the
risk with a negative effect of those dying and the rewards of those living. As the respondent reads
the question in the survey, our mind s natural shelf unconsciously highlights the positive parts while
interpreting the information. Most people as the study concludes, around в…” who took the survey

strategy and outcome of framing the situation like this is to influence how we think about trade offs

Examples Of Workplace Discrimination
1.How do I define discrimination in my own words and discrimination prevention in my own
words?
Discrimination is a long word, difficult pronunciation, tough to spell; yet, usage is exceedingly
common. Righteous teaching discrimination is simple to define. Unfair, unjust, underserved
treatment upon one is my views of discrimination. Discrimination is done intentionally. One cannot
state unfair treatment upon an induvial was mistaken.
Discrimination is highly found in the workplace. Workplace discrimination is instituted mainly by
employers; however, it transpires among employees. A few examples of workplace discrimination
is not being promoted, hired, friended, praised, heard, or given earned salaries. Leading causes of
the above examples contributes to race, ethnicity, religion, age, weight and gender.
Why should anyone be discriminated in the workplace? Working people in today s society should
know discrimination is immoral! Sadly, many working people are not righteous; therefore,
discrimination is still an ongoing problem. Discrimination prevention program training has been
developed; basically teaching working adults how to be fair.

Literacy Pedagogy Essay
Effective teaching of literacy is developed through a deep understanding of the ways in which
children learn, informing educators on the most beneficial pedagogical methods to utilise
(Tompkins et al, 2012). Literacy pedagogy within the Australian context has changed drastically
over time and has resulted in a myriad of pedagogical choices that influence contemporary literacy
education(Kalantzis Cope, 2012). By critically analysing the changing approaches to literacy
teaching within the Australian educational context, the four major literacy pedagogies: didactic,
authentic, functional and critical can be explored linearly to highlight the theories behind each
approach, their positive and negative attributes and how subsequent approaches have been
integrated to result in a balanced approach to literacy education.
Didactic pedagogy dates to the 1500 s and was the founding approach to literacy pedagogy when
mass, compulsory, institutionalised education was first introduced in the 19th century (Kalantzis
Cope, 2012). Didactic literacy education primarily involves lecturing and is essentially teacher
centered (Banning, 2005). Didactic pedagogy is defined by the teacher controlling what is to be
taught and how this information is to be delivered (Banning, 2005). The students role is to
memorise and reproduce this content (Kalantzis Cope, 2012a). The approach also concerns
comprehension of the meaning of written texts to be interpreted as intended by the author (Kalantzis

Internet and Information Paper
Hello,
It s good to hear from you. You re right to be fascinated about the internet; it can be a great tool. I
use the internet nearly every day it s like having a dictionary, thesaurus, almanac, encyclopedia, and
library all rolled into one and open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The internet is a great tool
however finding the information you re looking for is like finding a needle in a stack of
paperclips, lots of information that s similar but not quite what you re looking for it. The most

The digital divide is a term used for to describe the growing distance between those with access
to information and those who don t have the access. We would be a perfect example of the
digital divide. What makes us a perfect example would be your lack of access to the internet and
electronic devices like smartphone, computers, and the internet and how I have access to all of
that information at the touch of my fingers. One aspect of the digital divide is the speed in
which people can access information. The difference between high speed internet and dialup can
have a major impact on staying informed. One way we are trying to bridge the digital divided is
by trying to increase access to the internet. Organizations like the Bill and Melinda Gates
Foundation have been leading advocates of provided the public access to the internet with
networked computers in libraries since 1997. Some would say we are succeeding at least in the
United States now that nearly 99 percent of public libraries have internet access available to the
public. Now we are working on expanding the number of computers in those libraries. With the
increasing use of smartphones the digital divide between different white Americans and African
Americans shrunk greatly. Globally we face a harder time closing the gap since the digital divide
closely follows behind the economic divide. As the

Determining the Water Potential of Potato Cells
EXERCISE 1C: Determining the Water Potential of Potato Cells
Introduction: Water potential was defined above as an expression of the tendency of water to
diffuse from one region to another. Water potential is a numerical value that must be determined
for a given temperature and pressure. In this exercise you will determine the water potential of
potato cells at room temperature and ambient pressure by placing cores of potato tissue in sucrose
solutions of different concentrations and measuring the net movement of water in each case. In
animal cells, movement of H2O into and out of a cell is influenced by the relative concentration of
solute on either side of the cell membrane. If water moves out of the cell, the cell will shrink or ...

We will assume, for purposes of explanation, that the solute is not diffusing (Figure 1 .2a). The
movement of water into the cell causes the cell to swell, and the cell membrane pushes against the
cell wall to produce an increase in pressure (turgor).
Figure 1.2a
Before
Pure Water
(p= 0;((= 0; ( = 0
(p= 0;((= 3; ( = 3
Figure 1.2b
After
Pure Water
(p= 0; ((= 0; ( = 0
(p= +3; ((= 3; ( = 0
As water continues to diffuse into the cell, the rising positive turgor pressure begins to cancel
out the negative osmotic potential of the cell. This process will continue until the positive turgor
pressure is so large it completely cancels the negative osmotic potential, and the water potential
of the cell = 0 = ( of pure water. At this point, a dynamic equilibrium is reached, and net water
movement will cease (Figure 1.2b). Now imagine starting over with a fresh piece of potato in a
beaker of distilled water. The potato has a water potential of 2.3 bars, as in the above example. If
you add solute to the water outside the potato cells, the water potential of the solution surrounding
the cells will decrease. It is possible to add just enough solute to the water so that the water
potential outside the cell is the same as the water

Are Artificial Selecting Animals Ethical
Based on the book, On the Origin of Species written by Charles Darwin, artificial selection is
defined as taking traits created through natural selection and combining the ones that are useful to
benefit humans (Darwin 1859). For consumption purpose, human artificially selected animals to
breed. However, this causes the domesticated animals to become less able to survive on their own.
So, is artificially selecting animals ethical? Raising animals in captive conditions for domestic
purpose will actually causes the genetic structure of these animals altered in long term by a process
known as relaxation of natural selection. Some say artificial selecting animals for consumption is
ethical since it is directly beneficial to humans, but this is

Class Divisions In The Turn Of The Screw
In The Turn of the Screw, Henry James employs class divisions through clothing, representing
how the characters are inclined to act through their degree of conformity to societal expectations.
First published in 1898, by Collier s Weekly, a magazine company that had a reputation of
reporting on integral societal events and topics people considered important to their lives, the
magazine commissioned the help of famous writers to write on pressing historical events of the
time (Elduff). It grew to be one of the most widely read magazines in the United States by 1892,
which allowed James to write a novella that hit on concerns regarding social mobility on a larger
scale platform. Since the Victorian erawas marked by prosperity and innovations in technology,
incomes rose leading to the growing of the middle class. This had a drastic impact on the culture
and the elites who feared the middle class movement for they had many reasons for resenting their
practical stigmatization as second class citizens (Best 238). James highlights this concern through
pointing out clothing which denotes which class a characters associated with and coupling this
with immoral actions of the times.
Since many people were jostling to get into upper society, certain rules regarding etiquette and dress

We Need Electronic Surveillance Essay
Our society would not survive in the 21st century without the help of electronic surveillance.
Safety is one of the main purposes of electronic surveillance. Safety is the state of being secure and
free from danger of any sort. Today, many would rather give up their privacy for safety
(Smithsimon). In fact, surveillancegadgets such as cameras, radio tracking chips and house alarms
are used in many places to ensure safety. For instance, a parent can easily place a hidden camera
in a stuffed animal in order to see how the babysitter handles his or her child (Public Places Have
Eyes). Cameras are also used to ensure safety on school premises. According to the GCC College
Safety website, the college has an extensive system of surveillance... Show more content on

Some say that the key to success on preventing terrorism, or any crime for that matter, is the use
of massive surveillance enforcement (Someone s Watching). For instance, airlines have used
the Computer Assisted Pre Screening System (CAPS) to spot any dangerous passengers that
have checked into the airline. Additionally, metal detectors are heavily used in airlines to check
for any weapons that a terrorist might use. Video cameras that capture faces and license plates
found all throughout the airport are now equipped with a software that allows images to be
recognized and matched with several databases (Public Places Have Eyes). Cameras in general
are present in every corner of the airport to monitor all irregular activities. Some also believe that
having a floating eye in the sky could prove to be a major deterrent in the war on terror when
talking about aerial surveillance (Surveillance Tech). Moreover, these surveillance tools are not
only used in airlines to prevent crime. These surveillance gadgets can also be used to prevent
other crimes such as robberies, trespassing, assaults, and shopliftings everywhere. In fact, with
the help of aerial cameras, the Tampa Florida Police Aviation Unit was able to perform 500
arrests in the year of 2003 (Surveillance Tech). As for metal detectors, they are found at the
entrances of almost every store we go to as well as school premises that push for a weapon free

from two major influences. The first being my mathematics and physics teachers, both engineers by
qualification, who have helped me enhance the fundamental skills essential for engineeringand
embrace the importance of the field. The second being learning about uses of technology in
computer science, it taught me the magnitude which technology contributes to our lives and has

I ve also spent my summer visiting museums to observe great engineering successes and how they
affect the world. In a noteworthy humanitarian trip to Belarus, where I visited the well renowned
BelAZ factory. This company creates some of the world s largest mining vehicles, including the

large scale products such as BelAZ to nanotechnologies such as artificial muscles.
Outside the curriculum, I am a keen sportsman and musician. Captaining my club and school

it came to his studies. This is because this was before the Naval Academy was created. The
Narrative of a Blockade Runner is a personal narrative, meaning it will mostly include John
Wilkinson s experiences. When one reads this narrative, it will feel as if he is reading a journal

Wilkinson closes his narrative by saying, Her officers and crew turned adrift with the wide
world before them where to choose (page 252). By that, he was saying things are going to
change. The states would have had to change the way they were controlling their societies. After
the war, John Wilkinson lived in Nova Scotia until he died in 1891. His purpose of the war was
that he tried to get all the supplies the Confederates needed through the Union s blockade. In all
honesty, The Narrative of a Blockade Runner was an extremely difficult book to engage oneself
to read. The personality of John Wilkinson in his narrative was rather bland, even though he was
in a part of a major was in this county s history. The only disagreement I have against Wilkinson
is that he mentioned that he would look back on his journal for humor. The outcome of the war
was not humorous in any way for both sides, especially in the south. On a grand scale, Wilkinson
brought me into the war. He explained many of the little tactics that gave them advantages. It was
very descriptive with the procedures they had to do. This narrative is not what I expected out of it.
There was not much action. He hardly mentioned any of the deaths. It was just a strategy game for
him. Without much of a personality coming from him, there was not much impact. There is just a
different view on what happened in the war

Biography of Euripides
Chapter 1: Euripides Biography Part 1: Bob Prescott Euripides lived in a very mysterious time.
We know so little about the era in which he lived because of the loss of many ancient
manuscripts at the burning of the Library of Alexandria. Given this massive loss of knowledge
of the pre modern world, it is hard to cobble together a full biography of Euripides. There is,
however quite a lot of information known about him. This is known due to the fact that Euripides
is a character in some of Aristophanes and the other comic poet s comedies. The largest
comprehensive collection of information on the playwright, however, is from a biography called

Or perhaps, he, like many writers, preferred to write in solitude. Throughout his life, Euripides
married twice and had three sons. His wives were Melito and Choirile and his sons were named
Mnesarchides, Mnesilochus, and Euripides. Two of his sons, Mnesilochus and Euripides,
followed in their father s footsteps and became an actor and producer, respectively (Satyrus
153). Satyrus mentions in his Vita that Euripides first wife was unfaithful, to which Lefkowitz
adds that she slept with their slave, Cephisophon (Lefkowitz 97). Satyrus explains that after
discovering that she had committed adultery, he penned Hippolytus, in which he exposes
women s immorality. (154) After remarrying, Euripides discovered that his second wife was also
unfaithful. This was said to make him even more eager to slander women. (Satyrus 154)
Speculation of how Euripides works were perceived when they were new is a difficult concept.
Given how male dominated society was at the time, a safe assumption is that Hippolytus was
well accepted, as were many of his other works. Medea, as another example, was probably well
accepted by Greeks because of its superficial display of women and foreigners. Today, the play is
known to be an interesting analysis of a complex character oppressed by society, but in ancient
times, it is uncertain whether the theatre patrons would have seen past the surface. At some point in

Donald Trump And Xenophobia In The United States
Xenophobia an intense or irrational dislike or fear of people from other countries. The idea of
xenophobia was heavily prominent in the 2016 presidential campaign, so it is not surprising that it
was voted the word of the year for 2016 (Dictionary.com, 2016). Donald Trump is considered to be
an xenophobic politician based on his comments made against different ethnic groups, such as
Mexicans; however, it is difficult to understand how a generation that supports diversity elected a
xenophobic president.
Historically speaking, there are genuinely xenophobic politicians who achieve votes from a sub
population that is indisputably xenophobic in nature. For example, American President Andrew
Jackson was elected as the 7th American President, resulting in the execution of the Indian
Removal Act of 1830, forcing several Native Americans nation to relocates from their ancestral
homelands . . . all to make way for those enslaved Africans being forcibly hauled into the Deep
South (Kendi, 2016). That being said, Americans maybe xenophobic due to significant historical
events that resulted in xenophobic policies, which eventually grew directly into the ideals of the

The Sandman By E. T. A Literary Analysis
The perplexing short story, The Sandman by E.T.A. Hoffman, conveys an unsettling dark tale about
a man struggling with the effect of a traumatic childhood experience. Hoffman delivers an
imaginatively chilling portrayal of the looming consequences adolescent perception can have on
adult life. Studies have shown that childhoodtrauma may harmfully affect the brain structure and
cause children to be at risk for psychiatric disorders later in life (Bergeron 1). Similarly, this idea is
shown in Hoffman s tale as the main character Nathaniel plunges repeatedly into despair and
madness because of the fear introduced in his youth. Although childhood fears may not always be

Nathaniel, who enjoyed the moments before bed in the company of his father, associated the
Sandman with the unwelcoming separation from his father. Soon after, his sister s nanny teasingly
tells of a darker story about the wicked Sandman, who gouges the eyes out of children who will
not go to sleep, feeding their eyes to his own kids (Hoffman 2). Furthermore, his own imaginings
about the Sandman continued to grow strong. Nathaniel s fear grew more intense when he believes
his father is murdered by Coppelius, whom he believes to be the evil Sandman. Expressively,
Hoffman s story illustrates the power of perception and the dangers of subtle progression. Imposing
threats help to create harmful visualizations. Children are especially taunted by fears and
environmental influences and may silently cope with things they do not fully understand.
Clara is disturbed after she reads the letter meant her brother Lothaire. For this reason, she replies
to Nathaniel to eagerly express her astute insight and discerning opinion into the probable cause of
Nathaniel s affliction; his memories had not been real, but merely misguided by his own
imagination (Hoffman 7 9). The influence of an individual s thought life and belief system can
severely disrupt life and relationships. For instance, when Nathaniel believed that

The Causes of the Seven Years War
The French and Indian war represents the generic notion for what is known in the history of the
European continent as the Seven Years War. This war represented an important moment in the
history of the United States, despite the fact that the actual confrontation and the political disputes
had included the French and the British. Although the political matters were related to the colonial
issues the two sides had on the European continent, the major battlefield in this sense were disputed
in the American colonies. It marked a crucial point in the creation of the United Statesand in
defining the territorial identity of the country.
Causes of the Seven Years War
There are numerous causes that can be stated to justify the war and discussions over the causes of
the war have been vast (Ropes, 1889). Two of the most important however focus on the historical
background on the one hand and the geopolitical control over colonies on the other hand (Evera
n.d) .
The war was a crucial moment in the history of the colonial relations because it codified the total
control of Britain over the sea trade as well as the sovereignty over most part of the North American
continent through the Treaty of Paris.
During the 18th century there was a fierce competition between the British and the French colonial
empires that ultimately led to The Seven Years War. The final result of the conflict favored the
English who, nonetheless, were forced to make appeal to the force of the American

Summary Of Hispanics And The American Dream
In Linda Chavez s, Hispanics and the American Dream she starts by showing the growth of
Hispanics in America and how they are depicted. She sees them as a valuable part of society that
is steadily climbing to new heights on the socioeconomic ladder, yet the population perceives them
to be the lower end and will likely remain that way. She goes on to prove this assumption by the
way Hispanics are shown in the media, which states that poor and Hispanicgoes hand in hand when
thought of. What is failed to be seen is that most Hispanics are steadily in the middle class, but
this varies within the group just as it does with all races. The analysts take into consideration the
immigrants who have just entered America, legal or illegal, which in turn causes the balance to
shift towards the poor side of the spectrum. Our overall perception of Hispanics plays a role in
their place in society. Linda illustrates how the way we view Hispanics is what holds them back
from fully growing in our society. This is mainly done through discrimination that withholds them
from attaining jobs or opportunities that halts their overall progression up the ladder. The U.S.
census and many other federal agencies confirms that the Hispanic race, much like any other race,
works had to make a decent living and support their families. This depicts Hispanics as a race that
shares a common norm of all others, yet is still treated as if they are the bottom rung of society.

Initially the upper lobectomy patient who required an ICU bed was first on the list. However
due to the latex patient it was rescheduled to be the second procedure, but because of the lack of
strycker stack system, all the VAT had to be brought forward resulting in upper lobectomy being
booked as the fourth case. Regardless of its delay, the ICU bed would still not be available if the
surgery was to be performed fourth, thus the bronchoscopy surgery was conducted prior to the
upper lobectomy procedure, in order to preserve time. If this case was done before, then the patient
would have had to be kept in the theatre, thus impeding on the time available to perform the
following surgeries. Hence, by rescheduling the list to allow the upper lobectomy case to be
conducted fifth, it allowed the smoother flow of surgeries while exhibiting a more efficient time
management. As time consumption was also reduced, it decreased the cost as it increased the
amount of patients treated with the same resource (Officer of the Auditor General (OAG) 2015).
However, despite the time management, the theatre went overtime. An element that contributed to
the overrunning of the theatre is due to the VAT surgeries being performed by a training surgeon

God has told us to focus on the humility of others and not our own. These days people are

Shine Light on Millions of Mirrors:
Digital Light Processing Projector
Abstract A digital light processing projector is a type of display device that uses a digital micro
mirror chip. The most common application of this projector is in movie theaters. In movie theaters,
films are shown by digital light processing projector, which emits light through color wheel and
reflects it with micro mirror chip. The two main technologies of digital light processing projector,
color wheel and micro mirror chip are engineered so precisely that it can create at least 16.7
million colors and refresh a screen 120 times per second [1]. The technology of digital light
processing projector is continuously moving forward and soon it will be prevalent in home theaters.
Introduction
Recall our middle school memory in which we used to have one overhead projector in every
classroom. A teacher writes on a transparency sheet with a colored pen and a lamp under the
black box shines on the transparency sheet and the shadow of footprint is shown on the screen
through the mirror that is above the black box. It was very analog in a sense that it could only
project a still sketch and its color reproduction is very limited.
Late 1990 s is the beginning of the digitalization and our engineering endeavor at overhead
projector is Digital Light Processing projector. It may sound very high technologic, however, the
science behind it is quite straightforward

Marine Biology Project Is The Great White Shark
The topic I choose for the final marine biology project is the Great White Shark. The reason I
choose this topic is because sharks have always been in the back of my head and would really
like to learn more about them. People are usually scared to go into the ocean at the beach and I
would like to know more about the creature that caused this. The Great White is very important to
Marine Biology and to the marine environments because it is at the top of the food chain. The Great
White does not have any known natural predators other than the Orca Whale. If this sharkbecomes
endangered or goes extinct, the population of the seals, sea lions, and other animals that it often
feeds on would skyrocket. These animals would then eat themselves out, thus changing the whole
ecosystem around them. So basically, the Great White Sharkcannot be removed without the whole
marine ecosystem becoming disturbed and unbalanced. That s why they are now being
protected in a lot of places. Great Whites are carnivorous sharks that grow from 15 to 20 feet
long; their size is relatable to a school bus. They weigh 5,000 pounds or more and they are listed
endangered by the World Wildlife Foundation. They have gray upper bodies to blend in with the
coastal ocean floor below them and they get their name from their universally white underbellies.
Their torpedo shaped body and strong tail muscles can help them propel through the water at
speeds up to 15 miles per hour.

Cyberbullying And Youth Suicide Ideation And Attempts Essay
Methodology
The purpose of my study would be to see the correlation between cyberbullying and youth suicide
ideation and attempts. This study aimed to examine adolescents experiences with cyberbullying
because, victims of cyberbullying often report feeling frustrated, angry, and depressed (Patchin
Hinduja, 2010). Cyberbullying can have a negative impact on a youth s life and by conducting this
study we can gain a better understanding of how cyberbullying manifests itself in adolescence s
behavior, including suicidal thoughts and attempts. I would use a mixed methods approach to
examine various aspects of cyberbullying, including students involvement in cyberbullying,
reporting behaviors, and suicidal ideation or attempts. To gain more detailed information on the
effects of cyberbullying on youths suicidal ideation and attempts, I would utilize both quantitative
and qualitative data. Since cyberbullying itself is a complex issue combining both quantitative and
qualitative data can help to enhance the theory of the research.

There is of course a lot of interest in this money and lots of ideas on how to use it. The John Wall
Estate has left the City of Alturas more than $2,000,000. It is to be used for the Alturas Swimming
Pool and other youth related activities. It has to be decided how to spend the money, whether it is
for repairing the current pool or building a new community center. If only the repairs are done that
will leave enough funds for other youth related projects. Public member Heather Hadwick feels a
Community Center would be a great idea and benefit this area The Council will continue to get
input from the Alturas Swimming Pool Committee and the Community Center Committees. The
Alturas Rotary Club was also left the same amount of money to be used at the Youth Park; a joint
project could be very beneficial and meet the requirements of the Trust.

Why Chinese Car Brands are Stuck in First Gear
Quality Tech Gaps The luxury segment may be off limits, but some Chinese companies have
been able to move somewhat up market. SAIC successfully entered the high end market in the
last few years with the release of Roewe, a brand based on intellectual property acquired when
British car maker MG Rover went bankrupt in 2005. Geely, a private car maker that acquired
Swedish brand Volvo in 2010, has also won market share by gathering its high end products
together under one nameplate, Emgrand. Overall, however, few Chinese carmakers have been able
to establish a reputation for quality and comfort. Sometimes this is merely a matter of lagging
consumer perception, but often there are still quality and technology gaps between foreign and
Chinese brands. Analysts said many Chinese companies also tend to face operational challenges.

Emotional Intelligence In Healthcare Leaders
Daniel Goleman an author and phycologist once cited that if our emotional abilities aren t in
hand and we do not possess self awareness as well as not able to manage our distressing emotions
and if we can t have empathy as well as effective relationships, then no matter how smart we are,
we are not going to get very far(Goleman, 1995).
Harnessing ones emotions is having emotional intelligence. Emotional Intelligence is the capability

mindset of concentrating on results and make them adaptable to change.
Emotional Intelligence has affected leaders in making them actual change agents which is a key
characteristic and part of being an effective leader. People with a high degree of emotional
intelligence know what they re feeling, what their emotions mean, and how these emotions can
affect other people (The Mind Tools Editorial Team).
What good outcome has come from a leader who has no control of his emotions and screams at
his employees to do what he wants? A leader with emotional intelligence will use a more
effective approach. Let s take for example a business personal with high EI Jeff Bezos CEO of
Amazon is number one on Fortune s World s Greatest Leaders list. Amazon is a very successful
and lucrative business. It is said that Jeff is obsessed with the hearts and minds of his customers

Half of that 21 million does not get the exercise they need, and it jeopardizes their
health(Reinburg). According to Dianna Carroll, 57 percent of adults with limited mobility, 40
percent of adults with memory or thinking problems, 36 percent of those with vision problems and
33 percent of those with serious hearing difficulty get no aerobic exercise. That is in contrast of the
26 percent of adults without a disability and get no exercise. With those stats it shows the
importance of exercise and how vital it is to get out and active. The less active people with
disabilities are, the less function their lungs and heart will have. In those percents there are people
who have difficulty walking or climbing stair, have problems seeing or hearing, or concentrating,
remembering or making decisions(Reinburg). This not only affects their health, but also how much
they are going to learn and respond. These stats tell us what happens when special needs people
don t get the exercise they need and how this affects them.
When special needs have physical activity, it a real change made to them physically, mentally, and
emotionally. Physically it helps them get healthy. But it helps more than that. Exercise helps the
body boost body functions. One of the many functions that it helps is the immune system. With just
that improvement it moves their arms and legs producing more white bloods to fight off bacteria
and other illnesses that could get them sick.

As one is passionate towards their heritage they will not identify or label themselves something
there not. They will show pride and courage by showing they are willing to fight for their cultures

  • 2. How Did Emily Dickinson Influence Her Work Emily Dickinson is currently considered one of the most famous American authors, despite the fact that her work was not well known in her own day. Emily was notable to American Literature, and she sealed the road for several of today s poets. She was a creative poet, determined writer, and an extreme introvert who never gave up. Emily Dickinsonwas born on December 10, 1830 and passed away at age 55 on May 15, 1886. ( Emily Famous). Having grown up in poverty, it influenced her poems greatly. It is very popular because she uses this metaphor through a bird, showing that even in the hard times we should still have hope ( Emily Study). Theres many reasons why this poem is so popular, one being the way she puts commas around the word hope (O Connor). Hope is the Thing with Feathers is also a very positive poem, and many people feel as if it speaks right to the heart (O Connor). There is a lot of reviews saying that it just has a pleasant type of message (O Connor). Many people also find it a very good description of hope, and many people love it because they feel as if they can relate to it (O Connor). This poem was published in 1891 in the 2nd collection of Dickinson s work, Poems by Emily Dickinson, second series ( Hope Encyclopedia). My opinion of Hope is the Thing with Feathers would have to be that she was very clear with her message. Not only do I feel that I can relate to it, I feel as if many other people can relate to it. That poems main point is about hope and how you should believe in it whenever things are not looking up for you, and I think that is very true. Many times people get discouraged and think that there is nothing left but there is, and it is hope. I highly agree with Dickinson in her poem Hope is the Thing with Feathers . Classroom Management Plan Essay Classroom Management Plan Establishing a well organized plan for classroom management, at the beginning of the year, is essential for a peaceful and calm classroom that is conducive to instruction and learning for students with a variety of academic, social, and behavior needs. Team Green created the classroom management plan that follows. The collaborative group agreed that the evaluation of the student and their behaviors are essential in promoting positive desired behaviors. He begins with the events that prompted him to write this essay. He lists A recent slew of situations resulting in catastrophic violence and death (Ritchen, p1). This grouping of events, ranging from disease to plane crashes, has brought to light again the question of what a journalist s duty is in reference of how much of a horror to show and how much to keep from the public. Ritchen s argument culminates to the fact that the space taken up by showing these horrors of war and similar atrocities could be better used to prevent further events. He makes the point that, a grieving mother in Gaza deserves the whole world s attention (Ritchen, 3), but the consequences of showing everything that deserves to be shown outweigh the benefits. Showing all of the horrors that the world has to offer can cause a desensitivity to them as the reader tries to disconnect (Ritchen, 3). He gives a personal example of how hearing about these travesties causes already such a large scar on his psyche, that a picture serves to do nothing but cause more pain. He contrasts the ideas made earlier in the essay of owing the victims of horrors to have their stories told by making an argument that it is just as important to ensure that those stories have their full effect. The reader of the essay considers their own experiences and most likely comes to the same conclusion that when confronted with all of the horrors, they are overwhelmed, but a small taste of each can strike the perfect balance. The sharing of a story in words gives a sense of wrong that exists in the world and refraining from shocking the reader can give them a sense of ability to change. • 10. Enthalpy Of Combustion Of Magnesium Lab Report Conclusion: In this lab, a calorimeter was used to find the enthalpy of reaction for two reactions, the first was between magnesium and 1 molar hydrochloric acid, and the second was between magnesium oxide and 1 molar hydrochloric acid. After the enthalpy for both of these were found, Hess law was used to find the molar enthalpyof combustion of magnesium, using the enthalpies for the two previous reactions and the enthalpy of formation for water. The enthalpy of reaction for the magnesium + hydrochloric acid reaction was found to be 812.76 kJ. The enthalpy of reaction for the magnesium oxide + hydrochloric acid reaction was found to be 111.06 kJ. These two enthalpies and the enthalpy of formation for water were manipulated and added together using Hess s law to get the molar enthalpy of combustion of magnesium. It was found that the molar enthalpy of combustion of magnesium was 987.5 kJ/mol. The accepted enthalpy was 601.6 kJ/mol, which means that there is a percent difference of 64%. This percent difference is very high which indicates that this type of experiment is very inefficient for finding the molar enthalpy of combustion of magnesium. Many children have been removed from areas and even arrested by police officers who have used unnecessary physical force on the child. Majority of these altercations between the child and police, the child was unarmed, being cooperative, and not being violent towards the police officer. When has there ever been a time where it was a justifiable right to harm a child that isn t causing any physical harm to themselves or others? In this image one can note that the young boy is terrified while being forcefully removed by authoritative figures, and one of the officers seem to find the situation to be humorous. The boy was so scared that he urinated on himself. It s obvious that the child is defenseless and shows no sign of hurting anyone, but yet the officers choose to handle the situation with unnecessary force. This essay will explore the history and purpose of residential schools, how it impacted Indigenous children and families at the time of the events, and how to this day it still affects them. Indigenous Residential Schools impacted the First Peoples of Canada physically, mentally and emotionally which resulted in their loss of identity, culture, spirituality, and traditions in the past and present. History and Purpose: Indigenous Residential Schools were experimented in parts of Canada was early as the 1620s but they had very minimal success in accomplishing what they wanted. Missionaries ran the residential school but found it hard to recruit students, keep them at school, and they complained that they could not physically punish the children. The state got involved in the schooling of Indigenous children after Canada became a country in 1867 (Blackburn, 2012, p. 290). Canadian residential schools were also inspired by a similar practice in the USA in the 1880s. Their plan was to assimilate Indigenous children into Euro Canadian culture. The schools were operated by Christian churches and they thought that by removing Indigenous children from their parents and communities they would be more quickly assimilated (Woods, 2013, p. 173 174). Gross Negligence Manslaughter And Homicide Manslaughter Gross Negligence Manslaughter is a form of involuntary manslaughter in which in which the persons charged has caused a death without the mens rea of murder. Involuntary manslaughter being unintentional killings due to recklessness, criminal negligence or an unlawful act that is a misdemeanour or low level felony. Gross negligence manslaughter is categorised as not committing an unlawful act but a defendant committing a lawful act in a manor that is considered criminal. Gross negligence manslaughter can also be committed through not doing something as to result in death. Gross negligence manslaughter was initially set out in R v. Bateman (1925) in which a doctor was convicted of manslaughter due to his treatment of a woman during childbirth. The term gross negligence manslaughter was then more so interpreted that in order to ascertain criminal liability, the jury must agree that the level of negligence of the accused is beyond compensation alone and that it is criminal to act so thoughtlessly towards the life and well being of others. This interpretation was deemed inadequate and later updated to a then considered better interpretation and a large area of gross negligence manslaughter was replaced with reckless manslaughter. This interpretation was again contested due to the R v. Seymour (1983) case when the defendant intended to push their girlfriends car with a lorry, which subsequently resulted in accidental death of the girlfriend. The judge directed that the jury ... Literacy Pedagogy Essay Effective teaching of literacy is developed through a deep understanding of the ways in which children learn, informing educators on the most beneficial pedagogical methods to utilise (Tompkins et al, 2012). Literacy pedagogy within the Australian context has changed drastically over time and has resulted in a myriad of pedagogical choices that influence contemporary literacy education(Kalantzis Cope, 2012). By critically analysing the changing approaches to literacy teaching within the Australian educational context, the four major literacy pedagogies: didactic, authentic, functional and critical can be explored linearly to highlight the theories behind each approach, their positive and negative attributes and how subsequent approaches have been integrated to result in a balanced approach to literacy education. Didactic pedagogy dates to the 1500 s and was the founding approach to literacy pedagogy when mass, compulsory, institutionalised education was first introduced in the 19th century (Kalantzis Cope, 2012). Didactic literacy education primarily involves lecturing and is essentially teacher centered (Banning, 2005). Didactic pedagogy is defined by the teacher controlling what is to be taught and how this information is to be delivered (Banning, 2005). The students role is to memorise and reproduce this content (Kalantzis Cope, 2012a). The approach also concerns comprehension of the meaning of written texts to be interpreted as intended by the author (Kalantzis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One aspect of the digital divide is the speed in which people can access information. The difference between high speed internet and dialup can have a major impact on staying informed. One way we are trying to bridge the digital divided is by trying to increase access to the internet. Organizations like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have been leading advocates of provided the public access to the internet with networked computers in libraries since 1997. • 22. Determining the Water Potential of Potato Cells EXERCISE 1C: Determining the Water Potential of Potato Cells Introduction: Water potential was defined above as an expression of the tendency of water to diffuse from one region to another. Water potential is a numerical value that must be determined for a given temperature and pressure. In this exercise you will determine the water potential of potato cells at room temperature and ambient pressure by placing cores of potato tissue in sucrose solutions of different concentrations and measuring the net movement of water in each case. In animal cells, movement of H2O into and out of a cell is influenced by the relative concentration of solute on either side of the cell membrane. If water moves out of the cell, the cell will shrink or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We will assume, for purposes of explanation, that the solute is not diffusing (Figure 1 .2a). The movement of water into the cell causes the cell to swell, and the cell membrane pushes against the cell wall to produce an increase in pressure (turgor). Figure 1.2a Before Pure Water (p= 0;((= 0; ( = 0 (p= 0;((= 3; ( = 3 Figure 1.2b After Pure Water (p= 0; ((= 0; ( = 0 (p= +3; ((= 3; ( = 0 As water continues to diffuse into the cell, the rising positive turgor pressure begins to cancel out the negative osmotic potential of the cell. This process will continue until the positive turgor pressure is so large it completely cancels the negative osmotic potential, and the water potential of the cell = 0 = ( of pure water. At this point, a dynamic equilibrium is reached, and net water movement will cease (Figure 1.2b). Now imagine starting over with a fresh piece of potato in a beaker of distilled water. The potato has a water potential of 2.3 bars, as in the above example. If you add solute to the water outside the potato cells, the water potential of the solution surrounding the cells will decrease. It is possible to add just enough solute to the water so that the water potential outside the cell is the same as the water

Class Divisions In The Turn Of The Screw In The Turn of the Screw, Henry James employs class divisions through clothing, representing how the characters are inclined to act through their degree of conformity to societal expectations. First published in 1898, by Collier s Weekly, a magazine company that had a reputation of reporting on integral societal events and topics people considered important to their lives, the magazine commissioned the help of famous writers to write on pressing historical events of the time (Elduff). It grew to be one of the most widely read magazines in the United States by 1892, which allowed James to write a novella that hit on concerns regarding social mobility on a larger scale platform. Since the Victorian erawas marked by prosperity and innovations in technology, incomes rose leading to the growing of the middle class. This had a drastic impact on the culture and the elites who feared the middle class movement for they had many reasons for resenting their practical stigmatization as second class citizens (Best 238). Satyrus mentions in his Vita that Euripides first wife was unfaithful, to which Lefkowitz adds that she slept with their slave, Cephisophon (Lefkowitz 97). Furthermore, his own imaginings about the Sandman continued to grow strong. Nathaniel s fear grew more intense when he believes his father is murdered by Coppelius, whom he believes to be the evil Sandman. The analysts take into consideration the immigrants who have just entered America, legal or illegal, which in turn causes the balance to shift towards the poor side of the spectrum. Our overall perception of Hispanics plays a role in their place in society. Linda illustrates how the way we view Hispanics is what holds them back from fully growing in our society. This is mainly done through discrimination that withholds them from attaining jobs or opportunities that halts their overall progression up the ladder. The U.S. census and many other federal agencies confirms that the Hispanic race, much like any other race, works had to make a decent living and support their families.
