Indigenous People In Canada
Introduction It is very difficult to define indigenous people. No philosopher has invented a holistic
definition of these people of the world. However, they are those people too impoverished in all
societies worldwide, reorganized by their respective societies as indigenous natives, are identified with
the pre and post colonial continuity, having links with historical kingdoms and live around natural
resources with a peculiar political, economic and social set up. Over seventy nations of this world
habit indigenous people estimated to be 370 millions. What is so important is that they a rich in
cultural archeology, linguistically exorbitant with diverse religions, storytelling, art and traditions. In
states where colonial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mental health or disorders Mental and health disorders also give a measure of hospital management
for the mentally indigenous people. Statistics show that for the period 2005 2006, health officials
registered a high number of mentally sick patients of this kind in Australia. (Australian institute of
Health and welfare and australian Bureau of statistics, 2008, p. P.111). Majority of them had
psychoactive problems at 5:3 ratios for both male and female respectively, some of which were self
induced. In Canada, the situation is caused by induced and self imposed racial discrimination. For all
these reasons, the United Nations argued countries to avoid racial discrimination by promoting
equality in the provision of health services and affirmative action in indigenous communities. (United
Nations Development Program (UNDP) , 2000, P.10). Life expectancy In Australia, the life
expectancy at birth for the males had reduced and health authorities expressed the desire to improve it.
Based on statistics for 2005 2007, males expectancy was 67.2 years showing a drop by 11.5 years for
non indigenous people. For females, the standing is 72.9 years below non indigenous people by 9.7
years. From 1996 2001, the male to female ratio was at59.4:64.8 years. This meant that the Australian
government had taken up

Analyzing Wes Anderson s Stop Motion
To begin with, Wes Anderson s stop motion feature has a unique story compared to his other films
being based off books. I always admired Wes Anderson s collection of work throughout his years as a
director. Just like his other films, his style with films is going to be jammed pack with beautiful color
palettes, symmetrical framing, unique camera cuts, and lovable recurring character traits. My only
worries before watching this film that this was going to flop due to having high hopes with classics
like Fantastic Mr. Fox under his belt. The main high points I m going to review over is the story,
production design, and cinematography.
The Isle of Dogs was directed by Wes Anderson and features the voice talents of Edward Norton, Bill
Murray, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A pack of mangy mutts joins him on an adventure to locate his missing dog. Wes Anderson is no
stranger to stop motion having directed Fantastic Mr. Fox which was charming and gorgeously
rendered. But with the Isle of Dogs virtually everything about the technique has been improved while
3d animation has reached stunning new heights hand drawn and stop motion will always hold a
special place in my heart there s a rough around the edges feel to almost every shot it s obvious that a
painstaking amount of hard work has gone into each and every single frame. Alexandre des plots score
propels the film along with a steady pace creating a surprising amount of suspense as well. Some
scenes were actually riveting and a lot of that can be attributed to his wonderful music in typical Wes
Anderson style the actors are almost self aware in their delivery. The line readings feel idiosyncratic of
the stars themselves. Almost as if Anderson is knowingly allowing the actors public persona to seep
through. For instance, every line from Bill Murray or Jeff Goldblum feels almost tailor made for them
for their style. This can sometimes be a distraction but a minor one in Bryan Cranston s performance
as chief of the stray

Political Corruption, Inequality, And The Socially Excluded
Floid Krajcovic
Political Corruption, Inequality, and the Socially Excluded
Everyone knows that in our current society there are large amounts of political, equality, and social
gaps that occur and can be clearly seen between the wealthy and the poor when it comes to politics,
equality, and being socially accepted in the United States by others. People who are affected by these
issues can and will experience social and political exploitations along with political and social abuse
from numerous entities (Salas, 2013). These political and social exploitations and abuses occur on a
daily basis and can cause great harm to those affected by them. People that are affected by these issues
are usually the targets of corrupt politicians, inequalities, and social exclusion from others and must
find a way to fight back in order to gain some form of or type of social justice for themselves and
those of the same social class as them. If everyone in this social class decides or chooses to keep quite
or continue to keep remaining silent then social change concerning exploitations and the social abuses
they face will never occur and these injustices will keep happening over and over again (Salas, 2013).
However, the approach that is used in seeking that change must be respectful to and of all involved
wanting and seeking the change.
One way that many of these injustices or social exploitations and abuses can be changed forever is by
taking our old/current political injustice system of

Analysis Of Follower By Seamus Heaney
Seamus Heaney s poems Digging and Follower focus on family life, tradition and the pride Haney
feels towards his family, particularly his father and grandfather. They also talk of generation, role
reversal and the passing of the time. The poems describe his father and grandfather working on the
farm and the admiration Heaney feels towards them. This essay will analyse the techniques Heaney
used to convey his deep pride and admiration for his family.
Throughout Follower Heaney consistently describes the strong sense of pride he feels towards his
father.
All I ever did was follow
Is an excellent example of this pride. Heaney uses a hyperbole (all I ever did) to show how much he
looked up to his father and wanted to be him. This child like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It also shows that despite being a hard worker, Heaney s father always had time for his son.
Heaney speaks frequently about his father s skill.
Mapping the furrow exactly
This is a connotation which implies that Heaney s father worked precisely and was experienced in his
job. It reflects pride as it suggests he was extremely intelligent, furthering Heaney s hero complex
towards his father.
Another example of Heaney praising his father s skill is show in this quote;
The sod rolled over without breaking
It is an example of assonance which helps build on the idea that Heaney s father made his work seem
easy. It also shows that Heaney s father was very technically skilled, once again showing that Heaney
saw his father as a hero.
Moving onto the poem Digging which shows the admiration not only for his father but for his
grandfather as well.
By God, the old man could handle a spade. Just like his old man
Heaney s use of emotive language (by God) shows just how strongly he feels about his father and
grandfather. It also suggests the ease and comfort of their

Importance Of Black History Month
The purpose of this paper is to inform readers about the importance of the celebration of African
American History Month. There is a misconception about African American or Black History Month.
Black History Month is the annual festivals that have been observed in the United States to recognize
the achievements of African American Social Reformers, Civil Rights Activists, and other essentials
people in Black History. This paper will focus on the reasons behind the celebration. I ponder the
importance of celebrating African American History Month. I also contemplate on the main reason to
celebrate the event in February.
Black History Month or African American History Month is celebrated every year to recognize the
vital role of African American in the United States History. Black History Month has been honor in
February. The main reasons to mark February as a History Month was because the birthday of
President Abraham Lincoln who abolished slavery is in February. Also, the birthday of Frederick
Douglass, who was a social reformer and abolitionist, is on the week of February. The other reason is
an African American gain the right to vote in February. Those ideas make February commemorate
African American and American History Month. There are several reasons for the celebration of
African American History Month.

Kayak Creative Writing
When I want to feel safe and at peace with the world at large, I always find myself sitting on an
expansive pond resting within a kayak. In my vision the daylight sun has already yielded itself to the
calm twilight of the evening, taking the excitement of the day with it. The sharp contrast between the
complexities of the world, and the simplicity of this scene set before me is one of the few thoughts
that can bring my mind at ease in times of stress. My memory begins immediately after the last of the
motorboats, which had been roaming the lake earlier, were pulling into the boat landing. The final
remnants of their wake were passing under me, causing the boat to bob in the water ever so slightly.
Eventually, the sunset which had accompanied

Lifetime Plums
Once In a Lifetime Plums The poem This Is Just to Say by William Carlos Williams differs from the
standard meaning of confession. The easy going tone of the poem questions the reader s thoughts
about the rhetor s credibility of being truthfully sorry for eating the audience s plums as he almost
seems to brag about how tasty the plums were. In spite of the fact that the tone changes the credibility
of the rhetor, the author still remains credible because he was able to fathom his mistake of eating the
plums when he confessed to the audience after he consumed them. Confession is a formal statement
admitting that one is guilty of a crime. In the poem This Is Just to Say by William Carlos Williams, the
narrator concedes to consuming the audience s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author writes a note in an informal tone that suggests intimacy with the audience that makes the
reader question the author s sincerity if he is truly sorry for eating the plums. The narrator claims to
have eaten the plums: Forgive me/they were delicious/so sweet/and so cold (Williams 9 12). This
signifies that the narrator hopes the audience will not be mad at him for devouring the plums since he
confessed to eating them. Yet the narrator seems to brag about how good the plums were. He is not
bragging about the fruit because he wants the audience to understand how great their breakfast could
have been if they had woken up earlier before the narrator could have eaten the plums. Indeed the
plums seemed to have been enchanted the author and he admits the plums were too good to pass up as
the plums are described with enough detail to have the audience s mouth water. Hence, the narrator
seems comfortable enough that he believes the audience will accept his

Avoiding the Possessive Shadow of Society
Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote, It is easy in the world to live after the world s opinion; it is easy in
solitude to live after our own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect
sweetness the independence of solitude. (Emerson 1) Being one s self in today s society is increasingly
difficult every year and can have a major effect on the mental state of teenagers. It is easy to follow
the pack, but then one is just a faceless person marching in with the crowd with no true purpose; true
strength is in those who try to be themselves in the face of society. Many teens struggle with their
identities and can turn to self harm or even suicide to relieve their pain, yet not enough effort goes into
trying to help these struggling teens. In fact in a recent study done for Curing the illness: suicide
prevention , professor John Wensly states that Suicide rates are increasing alarmingly. Every year we
see a ten percent increase in suicide attempts alone. (Wensly 23) In his book Into the Wild, Jon
Krakauer writes about Christopher McCandless, who did anything but live in society s large and
possessive shadow. Chris broke free from society s chains and lived his life with adventure despite the
numerous people telling him to stop. Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer focuses on Christopher
McCandless and his mysterious decision to live on the road.

College Campus Security Issues
As you well know, the safety and security of students on campus is a major concern for universities
and colleges nationwide. However, crime in urban areas, such New Brunswick and the campuses
surrounding the city, have reached an all time high in recent years. This is distressing because it
directly affects the Rutgers community. I have reviewed the 2016 Rutgers crime logs issued by your
police department and I have observed that a substantial amount of crime, primarily assault and theft,
have occurred in university parking lots and decks. Approximately ten criminal incidents occurred in
Rutgers Parking lots in August and September 2016 alone. You are well aware of the aggravated
assault that took place in Lot 103 on Livingston Campus. One ... Show more content on

Some parking lots on campus, primarily staff parking lots, have access controls in which the staff
member must swipe a key card to gain entrance. The parking lots I would like to focus on are Lot 30
on College Avenue, The College Avenue Parking Deck, and the Douglass Parking Deck. Access
control will increase safety these university parking facilities. In the decks, a security booth, such as
the Par Kut booth or Portafab Guard Booths, will be installed to monitor who comes in and out of the
parking lots. A security guard, stationed in each booth, will double check that the individuals entering
the parking lot are only students, faculty, or authorized visitors. Attached or next to the booth will be a
gate arm. Students who have registered their cars to that specific parking lot or garage will be able to
swipe their Rutgers University Identification card. This will trigger the gate arm to life and allow them
entrance to the parking lot or garage. As a result, students who park in these facilities would not have
to pay for parking passes and employment opportunities would open for security booth personnel as
well as guards. Under this project, there will be a heightened presence of of security guards on bikes
and T3 s in Lot 30 and both decks, particularly at night. There will also be an increased presence of
more maintenance workers, who will help keep Rutgers parking facilities

20th Century and New World
NUOVOMONDO (Golden Door) by Emanuele Crialese, 2006. Nuovomondomeans New wolrd in
Italian, but its English title, Golden Door, has been taken from Emma Lazarus poem about the Statue
of Liberty. This is in fact an immigrants tale from Sicily to Ellis Island at the turn of the 20th century.
In a desolate corner of the Sicilian countryside, a family s apparently changeless life of hardship and
toil is interrupted by tales of the New World and its inhabitants, of the riches of this paradise.
Salvatore makes the momentous decision to sell all he has his land, his home, his livestock and to take
his children and aged mother to a better life across the ocean. As Salvatore embarks on his epic
journey, he meets a mysterious English woman, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their romantic joining does not revolve around common language or experience, but emotional desire

Italians, to step outside of everything and everyone they know in search of a life of opportunity. She is
English, has red hair, and has very little in common with Salvatore. However, they understand each
other s dreams perfectly, no words necessary. 5) The language: make comments on the way peasants
communicated among each other and with strangers. There is very little dialogue in the film and I
think this is done on purpose. However, keeping a faithful use of Sicilian dialect, the viewer develop a
closeness to the characters who in their language express their cultural identities. The peasants could
easily understand each other because it was their own language, an army of its own as we discussed
earlier in the semester. However, strangers could not understand their dialect and therefore perceived
them as uneducated and

The Texts Of The Bhagavad Gita
The Bhagavad Gita, also know as the divine song, is a small fraction of a very long epic poem called
the Mahabharata (Molloy, 2013, p. 86). There are many lessons that the Bhagavad Gita holds, but
there are a few that are more important than others: the three modes of material nature, and the path to
attain freedom and attain the supreme goal. The three modes of material nature are goodness, passion,
and ignorance; these modes control what happens to your soul once you have passed away. The only
way to gain freedom to the supreme goal is to die in the mode of goodness, which will take him to the
higher planets (Prabhupāda, 1972, 14.14). Through the lessons taught by the Bhagavad Gita one can
learn the resources to live in the mode of goodness. If you choose not to live in the mode of goodness
you will not be able to achieve enlightenment. In the Bhagavad Gita there are three modes of material
nature: goodness, passion, and ignorance. Each mode is given characteristics and the aftermath of
what happens to one who lives in each mode. To begin we will start with the most pure mode,
goodness, which is commonly compared to being happy. Being in the mode of goodness is what
everyone should aim for since leading a life of goodness results in gaining wisdom (Prabhupāda,
1972, 14.6). The next mode is known for being very active it is passion. The mode of passion can be
described by the attraction between a man and a woman. This is the mode that civilization today is
most advanced

The Membrane And Cytoplasmic Membranes
The plasma membrane and cytoplasmic membranes of plants, like those of animal cells, are composed
of lipids and proteins that are often glycosylated. Likewise, the composition from one membrane type
to another is highly diverse. There is some evidence to suggest that the composition, particularly of
the lipid component, may change in response to environmental conditions such as temperature, water
stress, etc. as well as during growth, development and ultimately senescence of the cell. It is believed
that these changes are required to adjust the physical characteristics of membrane structures so that
they may perform their necessary physiological tasks when environmental factors change. If the
environmental conditions are altered beyond the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this review the importance of lipid phase behaviour is discussed in the context of membrane
stability at different temperatures.
The dark red and purple pigments in beetroot are located in the cell vacuole and are chemical
compounds called betalains . The pigments cannot pass through membranes, but can pass through the
cellulose cell walls if the membranes are disrupted by heat (for example cooking) or after a long
period pickled in vinegar.
Method:
First collect a cylinder of beetroot by pushing the corer into the beetroot and withdrawing it. The
cylinder remains inside the corer so push it out with the end of a pencil.
Collect 6 cylinders, with the pieces of 5 cm long with a segregated knife.
The beetroot was cut to 5cm. Because the beetroot has been cut some of the cell membranes had been
broken, which means some anthocyanin will leak out. This must be completely washed off in order to
maintain the reliability of the results.
The water must then be heated to 70oC (the first temperature for the experiment)
Once the water is at the correct temperature (measured using the thermometer), one piece of beetroot
is placed into the hot water, in a test tube, directly and left for exactly 2 minute (using a stopwatch).
This procedure will be repeated with the other 5 pieces of beetroot and the temperature should be
changed accordingly. The temperatures will be

How to Have Flawless Skin
Flawless skin is all the rage these days and rightfully so but dark spots can form and detract from our
beauty. Hyperpigmentation, as it s technically referred to, can happen to any skin type, manifest in any
size, shape, shade or quantity. It s defined as the build up of melanin, the pigment responsible for your
skin s color. What causes dark spots anyway?
Dark spots can appear for a number of reasons, here are some common ones:
Sun Exposure
A little sun a day is in fact good for the skin but extended periods of sunlight can do much harm. This
is the most common cause of hyperpigmentation because melanin soaks up the sun s uv ray energy.
Sun damage may not even show until years after exposure!
Injured or Acne prone skin.
Conditions that compromise the skin, like acne or eczema, can leave behind scars (dark spots). These
can either heal and fade completely over time or get worse due to sun exposure.
Aged Skin
Aged skin is thin and weak. Though dark spots are not caused by the natural aging proces, these spots
appear in the form of sun spots, liver spots or age spots.
So how do I avoid or remove dark spots? Well, prevention is always cure but you wouldn t be reading
this article if you didn t already have dark spots. Lets get right to it!
There are 2 main methods to remove dark spots, the natural or pharmaceutical way:
The Natural Way:
Natural cures for hyper pigmentation can be found in your refrigerator if not a quick trip to the

Designing A Building Or Interior Design For Lure Customers
Many restaurants and shops use the look of their building or interior design to lure customers in. Some
businesses try to appeal to everyone by using common things that everyone likes, while some
businesses try to aim at a certain group of individuals that are into a specific type of theme. In general,
we can all agree that a boring place isn t very appealing to go into to eat or shop so business owners
try to appeal to their customers so that they can attract more business. One tactic for bringing in more
customers can be seen through the use of color among the business s interior or exterior. Use of wall
space also has an important role in catching people s eye; what is on the walls and how they are used
is a common way to lure in people. Another common and great tactic includes the use of music or
media like T.V, what the T.V is showing or the music being played can help bring more people into a
place. Buffalo Wild Wings use all three of these strategies to attract its customers, mainly targeting
those who have a love of sports.
The way a store or restaurant looks and is set up can often affect people s opinion of the business and
can even determine who shops or eats at the location. When looking for restaurants the first thing one
sees is either the sign or the exterior of the building. The colors of Buffalo Wild Wings are yellow and
black which creates a pop effect due to the contrasting colors of the bright yellow and the dark black.
This contrast serves to make

Essay On Gentrification Of Venice
This paper assesses the evolution and impact of gentrification on a beautiful beachside neighborhood
known as Venice over the past two decades. Due to the fact that I ve spent a fairly good amount of my
time throughout Venice, I have a great sense of the community and the culture. But this community
had gone through a lot, one being gentrification. Before gentrification, Venice had a very natural
society, accepting everyone for who they are. Venice was and frankly still is a beautiful place to go for
a jog or hang out with friends on the beach. However, the cost to live there has soared through the
roof. Merely renting an office in Venice has doubled since 2011 with the average cost of renting a two
bed room apartment falling slightly north of five thousand dollars (Dave). Gentrification happened in
Venice ultimately very quickly, causing rapid change in the culture and the overall lifestyle of its long
term residents. Venice, some consider, is the nicest area in Los Angeles, due to its ethnic community
and splendid attractions. Venice was discovered by Abbot Kinney, a tobacco millionaire, around 1905
(Hormann). It was originally made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

affected Oakwood towards the end of the 20th century. Even though the neighborhood is essentially

Angeles City Beat, In Venice, the transformation is ... obvious. Homes are fetching sometimes more
than $1 million, and homies are being displaced every day. (Romero) When wealthier whites started to

integration in the neighborhood due to reconstruction of former homes and having built long fences

The Role Of Centralized Policies On The State Capacities
This part explains the centralized policies with focus on the state capacities, which is the vital factor of
developmental states model, and emphasizes on implications of the centralization for resource rich
developmental states. The initial stage of the extractive industry demands the centralization in which
the government exerts the strong state capacities, such as abilities to autonomously have its policy
ownership (e.g. design and implement industrial policies), to efficiently mobilize resources and to
rationally allocate revenues from the resources to more productive sectors in a given society (Arellano
Yanguas and Mejía Acosta, 2014). Such a state led development often results from political leadership
based on a strong ideology called developmentalism and requires the trained and efficient bureaucracy
to devise national development schemes and implement relevant legal frameworks (Reinert, 2010).
In addition to the capacities of setting up development plans, the successful development in resource
based economy depends on their ability to save all or part of the revenues from the extractive
industries (Lewin, 2011). Since the non renewable resources are destined to be depleted in the future,
the mineral wealth is limited, and it means the state should save the revenues as much as possible to
prepare for the future depletion (Lange and Wright, 2002). Moreover, the natural resources tend to
have volatile prices, so the countries need to stabilize the income, for

Who Has Spent Time With Children
Anyone who has spent time with or around children will notice that each one has a special personality
all of their own. Children, like adults, have different traits that make up their personalities. Experts
have researched this phenomenon in detail and classified children into different categories. Some
experts have named more than three categories, but Peter L. Manigone has chosen three that most
experts agree with. These categories have been named flexible, fearful, and feisty. Children generally
may have similar interests, but the way they interact and deal with these interests displays their
personality type.
The first personality type is called flexible. This is the most common of the three types. About 40
percent of all children fall into the flexible or easy group (Mangione). These children usually handle
feelings of anger and disappointment by reacting mildly upset. This does not mean that they do not
feel mad or disappointed, they just choose to react mildly. These actions mean the flexible child is
easy to take care of and be around. According to Mangione, they usually adapt to new situations and
activities quickly, are toilet trained easily, and are generally cheerful. Flexible children are subtle in
their need for attention. Rather than yelling and demanding it, they will slowly and politely let their
caregiver know about the need. If they do not get the attention right away, they seldom make a fuss.
They patiently wait, but they still make it known

San Diego Environmental Impacts
Climate change is affecting humans every day, and yet most of us have found that every region of the
globe is affected in some way or another. For us here in San Diego, California, in the Western
Hemisphere, on the west coast, United States, North America, that impact is felt mostly with rising sea
temperatures and rising sea levels. There are noticeable predictions that by 2050, rising sea levels here
will rise as stated: At least a 16 inch sea level rise is expected in San Diego, Ca by 2050, with a
projected rise of 50% by the turn of the century. San Diego, Ca has several beaches locally therefore
this is a concern here. There are multiple beachfront properties and businesses that would be impacted
by loss of profit margins, and potentially flooding if this was to occur. The property losses would
potentially be in the millions and this does not take into consideration the impact that sea mammals
would feel. By 2100, the projected sea level rise (SLR) would be 5 meters above normal...and some
widely projected margins estimate those 7 23 inches possible for SLR in the coming years. The Fourth
Assessment (4AR) by the IPCC of 2001 gives these projections for the 21st. century. Certainly not

Free Trade And Its Effects On Society
Free trade hates certain things. It hates regulations, tariffs, taxes, subsidies for local business, and
cultural customs that interfere with efficient production and trade. This is why international
organizations, governments, and corporations have created free trade zones. These zones are perfect
because they have little or no regulation, environmental or social, tariffs, taxes, or subsidies. Basically,
a free trade zone is a regulation free, haven for factories where pieces of goods can be shipped,
assembled, and shipped back out at the very lowest cost possible. But there is a catch, once the
countries have allowed sweatshops (factories, assembly plants) to take hold, a chain reaction is set in
motion. The low wages that sweatshops pay create three things in poverty, which creates hunger,
disease, and lack of funds for medicine. The hunger and disease can cause more hunger and disease
because the victims of hunger and disease can no longer work to get the money that could fix their
hunger and disease. They just cause more poverty.
The mechanisms of this global stage are complicated and, for the most part, hidden. The players are
more easily named. The World Trade Organization (WTO) and the World Bank loan money to poor
countries to help their economies and infrastructures. But they loan at a price: deference. Once the
poor countries are in debt, they must make concessions in their spending like cutting health care. In
this way, free trade takes advantage of poverty.

The Crested Gecko
The New Caledonian Crested Gecko is one of the most sought out reptiles in the herptoculture hobby
today. This medium sized gecko has all the qualities of what to expect of a pet lizard. They combine
their sheer beauty and low maintenance and docile tempers, making it an all around great pet to own
(Rhacodactylus, p. 16). In the herpetological society, the crested gecko s popularity has grown above
hobbyist, into the hands of many first time pet owners, giving a first time experience made easy.
According to Fester, (2007) the rare Crested Gecko thought to be extinct but rediscovered in New

In my experience, holding these animals are not a challenge, making them easy to hand train by
holding them three times a week for a few minutes at a time. They do, however have the tendency to
leap like frogs so I would recommend letting them leap from hand to hand. The benefit of owning an
animal of this size is also the enclosure they are kept in. According to De vosjoli, Fast, and Repashy
(2003) Baby crested geckos can be kept in small plastic keepers until they reach juvenile size, which
is about five inches (p. 19). I recently purchased a juvenile crested gecko, and its habitat is a medium
sized terrarium, where it will live throughout its life span. In observing my daughters interaction with
her crested gecko, it is clear that he is a manageable size and is not skirmish giving her an enjoyable
experience with her new pet. While the crested gecko s size makes them easy to handle, the care for
crested geckos becomes easier and less expensive with little or no special lighting and heating needed.
Heating and lighting are not necessary for crested geckos, keeping the cost of the supplies down, as
well as the cost of electricity. According to Caponetto (2013) crested geckos are one of very few
reptile species that thrive in virtually the same temperature range that humans also find comfortable
(Ciliatus.com). Since our family has owned this gecko our family has not

Interactivity In Art Essay
Interactivity In Art
Abstract:
This essay examines the nature of interactivity in the arts through a cybernetic model, to arrive at an
understanding of how interactive artworks can maintain and augment the subjectivity of the viewer.
The cybernetic discourse foregrounds the relationship between the physical artifact (machine and/or
work of art), the participant/spectator, and information/data/content. By examining the shifts in focus
from each part of the cybernetic equation, several models for interactivity in art emerge. In a search
for a definitive and user centered working model of interactivity in the arts, a logical place to look is at
the history of cybernetics. Cybernetics, defined by Norbert Wiener in ... Show more content on

My object in writing is to examine interactivity in art from a local, personal point of view as an artist
involved in the design and production of interactive immersive virtual environments, and to
subsequently seek the construction, through historical and philosophical bricollage, of a model for the
conceptualization and actualization of consequent works of art. To this end, my attention will finally
turn to an evolving collaborative project that is constructing a low budget, user centered model for the
creation of an immersive virtual environment/augmented reality called The Dance of the Body w/o
Organs .
According to the discourse surrounding interactive art, the art object is no longer static, no longer an
object of contemplation, but a dynamic, responsive engine able to tailor its construction and outcome
to the unique dataset of choices for each individual that enters its input field.
Often in my experience of interactive artworks, my physical action or signifying; that is, pushing a
button, triggering a sensor, etc; seems only related to the consequence or signification of my action in
a purely literal way, that is, push button, something occurs. Frequently I wonder what, on a less
obvious level, is the relationship between the trigger and the triggered? What if the

Transactional Distillation Lab Report
Discussion: Extraction is a process in which one or more compounds is selectively dissolved with an
appropriate solvent. The compounds can then be isolated from their impurities through extracting the
original solvent into a second solvent. This requires that the compound be more soluble in the second
solvent than it is in the first. Also, the impurities are to be insoluble in the second solvent.
Furthermore, these two solvents must be immiscible, unable to dissolve into each other. These two
solvents are then mixed together then allowed to separate. This separation also allows the specific
compounds to also operate into the two different layers, removing the impurities from the desired
compounds. Chromatography is a term that refers to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They each have their own advantages and disadvantages. For example, extraction is a relatively
simple process with controlled recovery and a large range of selectivity and flexibility. However,
emulsion can hamper the results, making it less accurate and efficient due to compound loss. The three
types of chromatography that were cover in lab each have their own pros and cons as well. Thin layer
chromatography (TLC) is beneficial in that it is also requires a simple set up. It is also a a relatively
quick and sensitive process. Furthermore, the components that are separated in the process can be
recovered by scratching the coating on the top of the plate. Some of the disadvantages of TLC come
from the fact that the plate length works as a limiter, only being able to separate to the maximum
length of the plate. This separation also happens in an open system which brings room for error do to
conditions such as humidity and temperature effecting the process of separation. Gas chromatography
(GC) shares in the fact that it is relatively quick and it is also highly sensitive. It is also useful in that it
gives fully quantitative results. One of the main disadvantages of GC is that it only works with volatile
substances that will vaporize within the inlet. For this reason, things such as sugars cannot be used.

3.3 Clear Statement of Requirements
According to Mueller (2005), the FBI did not have complete set of system requirements when the
contract was awarded to SAIC. Even though the FBI had an 800 plus requirements document, the
requirements were too complicated, incomplete and not sufficiently defined. Also the requirements
documents focused more on the finer details of the system layout instead of the high level functions of
the system (Goldstein, 2005). Failure of the VCF project was also caused by continuously changing
requirements. During the project life cycle, the FBI made 400 change requests most of which had
major impact on what was already designed and produced.
3.4 Proper planning
The VCF project lacked of proper planning. Firstly, the FBI had no Chief Information Officer (CIO) at
the start of the project. Without a CIO, the FBI had no standard software infrastructure. The FBI had
23 divisions, each with their own IT budget, investigations database and applications (Goldstein,
2005).
Secondly, the FBI had no Enterprise Architecture (EA) in place to assist them in making effective
decisions about IT projects. This shortage lead to the SAIC developers having no formal
documentation of how the FBI s IT structure and systems are mapped to its processes to guide them
during the development of the VCF system. Also SAIC was awarded a contract that did not have a
defined project schedule and milestones.

Triumph of the Will and Jud Suess as Nazi Propaganda
It has been readily admitted that propaganda has little to do with the truth. Why then is it so
convincing? Why does the demagogic appeal of propaganda triumph over reason and truth? The
answer is that the power of our emotions and our prejudices clouds our reasoning; and even more,
propaganda uses our emotions against us by manipulating them. We are shown what the propagandist
wants us to see; we feel what the propagandist wants us to feel. And in that way, propaganda becomes
a tool for exploiting the masses, for shaping public opinion and turning ordinary people into
supporters, participants and onlookers of genocide. Both Triumph of the Will and Jud Suess function

In addition to manipulating people s sense of nationalism, the film seeks to manipulate people s
religious beliefs; it uses common religious themes and images to imply an endorsement of Hitler and
the Nazis. In the opening scene, Hitler s plane flies above the clouds, high up in the sky; and then
descends to earth to land. Here Hitler is portrayed as coming from Heaven; he alone can restore order
to the chaos, he alone can save Germany and her people. The Nazi motto One People, One Empire,

Understanding Military Culture
There are major changes that have transformed the military from the old force which was seen to
focus only on winning battles without caring much about their forces to the highly skilled force it is
today that is all rounded. In order to comprehend the changes in the military there is need for
understanding the military culture. Like any other culture, military culture has evolved from
unorganized forms of administration and organization to the current modern force it is today. There
are different viewpoints on military culture and understanding it requires delving in their systems.
Explanation of military culture has two dimensions; one, the actual service where the force is required
to interact with others while serving and two, the personal life of the veteran and the life off the
military environment.
The picture that explains best about the need to understand military culture is the citizen solder that
serves for a few years and is not likely to return t active duty but associates with the military though
totally disengaged. The lives of military in active service and the veteran are different but swayed by
the same forces, the military culture. Therefore, there is need to understand the military structure and
basic military culture tenets and its elements such as missions, core values and ideals. This paper
seeks to illustrate the importance of military culture training, its foundations and its effects both
locally and internationally.

Case Study: Internal Supplies by Kamp Motors
CASE:

2. Kamp ▪ One of Vecu s subsidiaries ▪ An International leader in the field of engine production ▪

In my own opinion the transfer price that Kamp should insist on for the Type 2A engine now is €3450
per unit. This is using the principle of the minimum transfer price which is the variable cost plus the
profit if it sells its engines externally then adds the cost of €200 of developing the Type 2A engine.
However in the future the price may increase because fixed cost will be added as capacity may
become a problem with the expected rise of demand for cars and engines, and also if Kamp is allowed
to sell externally the type 2, 3, and 4 engines, so the price in the future should be €4750.
The proposed transfer price now is also lower than the expected prices from Black and FER so it
should not be a problem with Guy Mercier who is pressuring Kamp to sell the engine at a reasonable
price so that he can raise profit and bonus for his division.
Problem No. 2
Please discuss the possibilities of increasing Kamp s profit by using the formula for basic cost per unit
and by reorganizing. Please use a concrete example to indicate how the board of Kamp can manipulate
the unit costs for the types 2, 3, and 4 by reorganizing its cost information system. How, do you think,
can the boards of the Vecu concern and the MB division determine whether Kamp manipulates data on
unit costs?

Market Structure Of A Business
Today, the forces of competition, technology, and globalization have converged to spur innovation and
to transform the way business is done in the securities industry. (Arthur Levitt) Market structure is
best defined as the organization and other characteristics of a market. How a business succeeds is
based on the market, they choose to enter into. Another tool to analyze a company s market structure,
which includes the bargaining power of buyers, bargaining power of suppliers, threat of new
competitors entering into the market, threat of substitutes and the intensity of competition. Some of
the most important work in the development of economic theory is associated with the study market
structure. From the perspective of a platform owner, when it owns part of the business on one side of
the market, there are no straightforward answer as to whether having the rest of the business owned by
another is advantageous or not. In my opinion a perfectly competition market is the best to open a
business. I have outlined my thoughts and why a perfectly competitive market is the best market. A
perfect competing market is a hypothetical market where competition is at its greatest possible level.
Neoclassical economists argued that perfect competitive would produce the best possible outcomes for
consumers, and society. The best market to have a business grow and develop in, would be a prefect
competing market. There are many key characteristics of perfectly competitive markets to

Individualism in China
Individualism the lack of it or the excess of it has often been considered a major problem in the
modernization of China. In the early decades of this century reformers championed individualism in
opposition to traditional authority in both thought and social life, and especially in opposition to the
Confucian family system. Others contended that what thwarted China s modernization was not the
absence of individualism but rather a surplus of it. The common term for individualism in modern
East Asia (in Chinese ge ren zhu i) represents a Western idea, and implies that no such ism exsited in
traditional thought. Thus it symbolizes the challenge of a new idea to traditional values and suggests
the advocacy of change. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though it has a positive aspect in affirming the individual s freedom from society and his own
transcendent value, from the standpoint of society this has no effect on the status of other individuals.
It makes no positive claim within society. (Etienne Balaza) By contrast, there is a more affirmative
and socially defined individualism which seeks to establish the place of the individual or self in
relation to others, to secure his status in some institutional framework. Confucianism attempts this in
relation to the family and state. However, Confucianism made a bad bargain for the individual. He was
made to sacrifice more to the group than he got in return. It remains true that the Confuican almost
alone in traditional China concerned himself with defining and establishing some positive role for the
individual in society. It was by virtue of this active social and political endeavor that Confucianism
became a vehicle for the growth of a new humanism and individualism in Neo Confucianism. At the
same time, the question of the relation between this new trendcies deriving from Buddhism and
Taoism remains a real one throughout this period. This is because none of these systems falls wholly
within one or the other of our categories. The Confucian conception of the self is not without a
metaphysical aspect, nor the Buddhist and Taoist wholly without some social orientation. All three

The Text Of The Meno By Plato
In the text of the Meno by Plato, the dialogue develops and attempts to answer the question of what
virtue is, and whether it is teachable. The paradox explained can be used to discuss merely anything,
and we can thus say that either one knows or does not know. If a person knows, then they cannot
investigate or question their knowledge. However, if a person does not know, they cannot inquire
about it which means a person cannot question for not knowing what they do not know. Plato goes
ahead and resolves the paradox in the Meno by saying that, one would not seek what he knows, for
since he knows it there is no need of the inquiry, nor what he does not know, for in that case he does
not even know what he is to look for. (Meno 80E)
The Meno dialogue elaborates that in order to understand ways of finding the diagonal of a given
square, a person needs to prompt knowledge that is concealed to the source. The Meno clearly states
that knowledge is an essence to belief. Therefore, what matters and draws an ethical line between
belief and knowledge is justification. If a person knows and believes, then it is not enough for one to
justify it solely on those means. The Meno dialogue explains that in knowledge, a belief needs an
account to tie it down and set a better example.
The Platonic theory of forms that Plato raised relies on the belief that the forms or ideas and not the
materialistic example or material is the highest most fundamental kind of reality. He uses the principle

The Five Competitive Forces That Shape Strategy
Central Theme In the article, The Five Competitive Forces that Shape Strategy, Michael Porter argues
that the five forces are an important element for managers and investors in the business industry.
Porter stated that it is important to understand the competitive forces, and their underlying causes
which many companies will use to determine if they will gain profit or not (Porter 80). Companies
determine their profitability of the industry through the level of the force that they face. For instance,
when the forces are favorable, most companies will be profitable. Porter gives a detail description of
the five forces and explains the importance of each force. The five forces are the threats of new
entrants, the power of the buyers, the power of the suppliers, the threats of substitute for products or
services, and the rivalry among existing competitors. Porter believes that a company strategist who
understands the competition extends well beyond existing rivals will detect wider competitive threats
and be better equipped to address them (Porter 93). In other words, when strategists understand the
different forces it will benefit them to make better decisions and to be ready to face the different

The Handmaids Tale By Margaret Atwood
The Handmaids Tale by Margaret Atwood Introduction The Handmaids Tale by Margaret Atwood and
I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou are both very well known texts. They explore
the characters horrible situations, retell the experiences through a variety of literary features which all
link back to my main theme of freedom to, and freedom from. The Handmaids Tale is set in a not so
distant future dystopia, the totalitarian Republic of Gilead. It is centred around Offred, a handmaid
given to the Commander and his wife, Serena Joy, for reproductive purposes because of the
dangerously low fertility. Handmaids are given to elite couples who have trouble conceiving in the
hopes they can bear children. I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings ... Show more content on

Similarly, the theme of I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings is freedom and lack thereof, confinement.
The poem talks of a free bird flying through sun rays and how it dares to claim the sky . It also talks of
a caged bird with clipped wings and tied feet hoping for freedom and how it sings with fearful trill of
things unknown and longed for still... for the caged bird sings of freedom . Narration The narration
style of both texts are different, but are similar in that the readers have the opportunity to interpret the
texts in their own ways and gain understanding of what the characters are going through. The
Handmaids Tale is written in first person narrative and we get reflections from Offred s past before
Gilead, accounts from her time in the Red Centre, where woman were taught to be subservient, and
insights to her thoughts and experiences at the present. The method of first person narration gets the
reader fully immersed into Offred s story and what she is going through allowing the reader to
empathise with her, but is limited by that it does not allow the reader into other characters thoughts
and feelings, with this interaction, ...she (Ofglen) is looking right at me... directly, steadily...
unwavering... reader has to come their own interpretation of what Ofglen means. The narration of I
Know Why The Caged Bird Sings is fairly simple third person narrative, it takes on a somewhat literal
interpretation of freedom and lack thereof, ...wings are

Successful implementation of the procedures in computer programs requires a thorough understanding
of the associated algorithms. It is important to familiarize with the theoretical formulations along with
pertinent equations. A brief description about the procedure is presented in the following sections.
MEMBER FORCE DISPLACEMENT RELATIONS Case 1: Member orientation coinciding with
Global Coordinate System
Consider a member of plane truss undergoing deformation as shown in the Fig.4.1 Figure 4 1:
Deformation and Member axial Force
The displacement can be expressed as u = L L
Axial stress and axial strain is given by σ = Q/A and Ɛ = u/L
The stress strain relation is given by: σ = E Ɛ Q= [(E A)/L]u
Case 2: Member with arbitrary orientation in Global Coordinate System
The deformation and member axial force in Local coordinate system are shown in Figure 4.2.
Figure 4 2: Deformation and member axial force in Local coordinate system
Let (xb,yb) and (xe,ye) be the global coordinates of the joints in the undeformed configurations.
Member length of undeformed configuration is given by
L = √((x_b x_e )^2+(y_b y_e )^2 )
Let the displacement components in global directions at ends b and e be (v1,v2) and (v3,v4)
respectively. The deformed member length is expressed as

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF VLDC
A) Advantages:
1) Vehicle remains secured. 2) Vehicle position and accident data gets recorded.
3) Sense gas fuel leakage and display it on LCD screen. 4) Detects whether the driver has consumed
alcohol or not.
5) Detects whether the driver is sleepy.
6) They are recorded and stored in a black box.
B) Disadvantages:
1) Monitoring sensor must be checked regularly to ensure that it works efficiently.
2) Cost of implementing this system is quite high.
VII.BACK END STORAGE AND DISPLAY
The storage and display can be implemented via Visual basic or Visual Studio. The visual studio gets
the information from GSM and maps the vehicle based on the longitude and latitude value. It also logs
the information about the components while driving. The back end can be controlled by any individual
via a computer system from anywhere. The performance about any component can be detected by a
single click. The system is updated twice a minute such that the user gets the current status of the
vehicle.
VIII.CONCLUSION:
Thus, this system will have a great scope in the future and rate of accidents can be reduced. The
information about the vehicle can be stored in the cloud so that the data can last for a long period of
time. This system is small in size but it is more reliable. It will now become easier to position the

Increase In Rent
In the United States rent has been increased by 52.8 % from 2000 2014 and in a city like Chicago, the
median household has to spend over 31.2% of their income to afford rent according to a 2014 analysis
by Zillow Real Estate Research. These statistics are outrageous high, but not surprisingly shocking to
a lot of people. The reason being is that in many up and coming neighborhoods throughout Chicago
rent has been increased significantly over the years, one of them being Logan Square. With an
increase in rent the gentrified neighborhood has seen a 11.2% decrease in population since 2000
(Hernandez 1). Numerous of low income families have been displaced while the neighborhood has

There are huge number of residents who are being displaced because of the increase in rent, and the
amount of wealthy and upper middle class people moving into a neighborhood like Logan Square.
With the decrease in population, the area has been becoming less and less diverse and more
whitewashed than anything. According to Nacho Gonzalez, a UIC professor, there are many aspects
needed towards creating a gentrification situation, One element is a gentrification industry, realtors,
developers, mortgage lenders, and construction companies eager to capitalize in the area. The second
is a neighborhood with an attractive location preferably a disinvested area with run down but attractive
architecture ripe for rehabbing. The third necessity is a population of low income people inhabiting the
area with little political or economic power to fight for their territory. Closing the ring are people with
disposable income looking to move into the area, usually young, childless professionals seeking
location and action (Gonzalez). Developers and landowners view the area as a potential investment
and not a community or the idea that they might be commercializing the

I always admired Wes Anderson s collection of work throughout his years as a director. Just like his other films, his style with films is going to be jammed pack with beautiful color palettes, symmetrical framing, unique camera cuts, and lovable recurring character traits. My only worries before watching this film that this was going to flop due to having high hopes with classics like Fantastic Mr. Fox under his belt. Some scenes were actually riveting and a lot of that can be attributed to his wonderful music in typical Wes Anderson style the actors are almost self aware in their delivery. The line readings feel idiosyncratic of the stars themselves. Almost as if Anderson is knowingly allowing the actors public persona to seep through. Political Corruption, Inequality, And The Socially Excluded Floid Krajcovic Political Corruption, Inequality, and the Socially Excluded Everyone knows that in our current society there are large amounts of political, equality, and social gaps that occur and can be clearly seen between the wealthy and the poor when it comes to politics, equality, and being socially accepted in the United States by others. People who are affected by these issues can and will experience social and political exploitations along with political and social abuse from numerous entities (Salas, 2013). These political and social exploitations and abuses occur on a daily basis and can cause great harm to those affected by them. People that are affected by these issues are usually the targets of corrupt politicians, inequalities, and social exclusion from others and must find a way to fight back in order to gain some form of or type of social justice for themselves and those of the same social class as them. If everyone in this social class decides or chooses to keep quite or continue to keep remaining silent then social change concerning exploitations and the social abuses they face will never occur and these injustices will keep happening over and over again (Salas, 2013). However, the approach that is used in seeking that change must be respectful to and of all involved wanting and seeking the change. One way that many of these injustices or social exploitations and abuses can be changed forever is by taking our old/current political injustice system of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Emerson 1) Being one s self in today s society is increasingly difficult every year and can have a major effect on the mental state of teenagers. It is easy to follow the pack, but then one is just a faceless person marching in with the crowd with no true purpose; true strength is in those who try to be themselves in the face of society. • 13. The Texts Of The Bhagavad Gita The Bhagavad Gita, also know as the divine song, is a small fraction of a very long epic poem called the Mahabharata (Molloy, 2013, p. 86). There are many lessons that the Bhagavad Gita holds, but there are a few that are more important than others: the three modes of material nature, and the path to attain freedom and attain the supreme goal. The three modes of material nature are goodness, passion, and ignorance; these modes control what happens to your soul once you have passed away. The only way to gain freedom to the supreme goal is to die in the mode of goodness, which will take him to the higher planets (Prabhupāda, 1972, 14.14). Through the lessons taught by the Bhagavad Gita one can learn the resources to live in the mode of goodness. If you choose not to live in the mode of goodness you will not be able to achieve enlightenment. In the Bhagavad Gita there are three modes of material nature: goodness, passion, and ignorance. Each mode is given characteristics and the aftermath of what happens to one who lives in each mode. To begin we will start with the most pure mode, goodness, which is commonly compared to being happy. Being in the mode of goodness is what everyone should aim for since leading a life of goodness results in gaining wisdom (Prabhupāda, 1972, 14.6). Some businesses try to appeal to everyone by using common things that everyone likes, while some businesses try to aim at a certain group of individuals that are into a specific type of theme. In general, we can all agree that a boring place isn t very appealing to go into to eat or shop so business owners try to appeal to their customers so that they can attract more business. One tactic for bringing in more customers can be seen through the use of color among the business s interior or exterior. Use of wall space also has an important role in catching people s eye; what is on the walls and how they are used is a common way to lure in people. Another common and great tactic includes the use of music or media like T.V, what the T.V is showing or the music being played can help bring more people into a place. Due to the fact that I ve spent a fairly good amount of my time throughout Venice, I have a great sense of the community and the culture. But this community had gone through a lot, one being gentrification. Before gentrification, Venice had a very natural society, accepting everyone for who they are. Merely renting an office in Venice has doubled since 2011 with the average cost of renting a two bed room apartment falling slightly north of five thousand dollars (Dave). Gentrification happened in Venice ultimately very quickly, causing rapid change in the culture and the overall lifestyle of its long term residents. • 19. The Role Of Centralized Policies On The State Capacities This part explains the centralized policies with focus on the state capacities, which is the vital factor of developmental states model, and emphasizes on implications of the centralization for resource rich developmental states. The initial stage of the extractive industry demands the centralization in which the government exerts the strong state capacities, such as abilities to autonomously have its policy ownership (e.g. design and implement industrial policies), to efficiently mobilize resources and to rationally allocate revenues from the resources to more productive sectors in a given society (Arellano Yanguas and Mejía Acosta, 2014). Such a state led development often results from political leadership based on a strong ideology called developmentalism and requires the trained and efficient bureaucracy to devise national development schemes and implement relevant legal frameworks (Reinert, 2010). In addition to the capacities of setting up development plans, the successful development in resource based economy depends on their ability to save all or part of the revenues from the extractive industries (Lewin, 2011). Since the non renewable resources are destined to be depleted in the future, the mineral wealth is limited, and it means the state should save the revenues as much as possible to prepare for the future depletion (Lange and Wright, 2002). Children, like adults, have different traits that make up their personalities. Experts have researched this phenomenon in detail and classified children into different categories. Some experts have named more than three categories, but Peter L. Manigone has chosen three that most experts agree with. These categories have been named flexible, fearful, and feisty. Children generally may have similar interests, but the way they interact and deal with these interests displays their personality type. The first personality type is called flexible. This is the most common of the three types. About 40 percent of all children fall into the flexible or easy group (Mangione). These children usually handle feelings of anger and disappointment by reacting mildly upset. This does not mean that they do not feel mad or disappointed, they just choose to react mildly. These actions mean the flexible child is easy to take care of and be around. According to Mangione, they usually adapt to new situations and activities quickly, are toilet trained easily, and are generally cheerful. Flexible children are subtle in their need for attention. Rather than yelling and demanding it, they will slowly and politely let their caregiver know about the need. If they do not get the attention right away, they seldom make a fuss. It hates regulations, tariffs, taxes, subsidies for local business, and cultural customs that interfere with efficient production and trade. This is why international organizations, governments, and corporations have created free trade zones. These zones are perfect because they have little or no regulation, environmental or social, tariffs, taxes, or subsidies. Basically, a free trade zone is a regulation free, haven for factories where pieces of goods can be shipped, assembled, and shipped back out at the very lowest cost possible. But there is a catch, once the countries have allowed sweatshops (factories, assembly plants) to take hold, a chain reaction is set in motion. The low wages that sweatshops pay create three things in poverty, which creates hunger, disease, and lack of funds for medicine. The hunger and disease can cause more hunger and disease because the victims of hunger and disease can no longer work to get the money that could fix their hunger and disease. They just cause more poverty. The mechanisms of this global stage are complicated and, for the most part, hidden. The players are more easily named. The World Trade Organization (WTO) and the World Bank loan money to poor countries to help their economies and infrastructures. But they loan at a price: deference. Interactivity In Art Essay Interactivity In Art Abstract: This essay examines the nature of interactivity in the arts through a cybernetic model, to arrive at an understanding of how interactive artworks can maintain and augment the subjectivity of the viewer. The cybernetic discourse foregrounds the relationship between the physical artifact (machine and/or work of art), the participant/spectator, and information/data/content. By examining the shifts in focus from each part of the cybernetic equation, several models for interactivity in art emerge. In a search for a definitive and user centered working model of interactivity in the arts, a logical place to look is at the history of cybernetics. Cybernetics, defined by Norbert Wiener in ... My object in writing is to examine interactivity in art from a local, personal point of view as an artist involved in the design and production of interactive immersive virtual environments, and to subsequently seek the construction, through historical and philosophical bricollage, of a model for the conceptualization and actualization of consequent works of art. To this end, my attention will finally turn to an evolving collaborative project that is constructing a low budget, user centered model for the creation of an immersive virtual environment/augmented reality called The Dance of the Body w/o Organs . According to the discourse surrounding interactive art, the art object is no longer static, no longer an object of contemplation, but a dynamic, responsive engine able to tailor its construction and outcome to the unique dataset of choices for each individual that enters its input field. Often in my experience of interactive artworks, my physical action or signifying; that is, pushing a button, triggering a sensor, etc; seems only related to the consequence or signification of my action in a purely literal way, that is, push button, something occurs. The compounds can then be isolated from their impurities through extracting the original solvent into a second solvent. This requires that the compound be more soluble in the second solvent than it is in the first. Also, the impurities are to be insoluble in the second solvent. Furthermore, these two solvents must be immiscible, unable to dissolve into each other. These two solvents are then mixed together then allowed to separate. This separation also allows the specific compounds to also operate into the two different layers, removing the impurities from the desired compounds. Chromatography is a term that refers to ... It is also a a relatively quick and sensitive process. Furthermore, the components that are separated in the process can be recovered by scratching the coating on the top of the plate. Some of the disadvantages of TLC come from the fact that the plate length works as a limiter, only being able to separate to the maximum length of the plate. This separation also happens in an open system which brings room for error do to conditions such as humidity and temperature effecting the process of separation. Gas chromatography (GC) shares in the fact that it is relatively quick and it is also highly sensitive. It is also useful in that it gives fully quantitative results. One of the main disadvantages of GC is that it only works with volatile substances that will vaporize within the inlet. For this reason, things such as sugars cannot be used. Also, it can ... Even though the FBI had an 800 plus requirements document, the requirements were too complicated, incomplete and not sufficiently defined. Also the requirements documents focused more on the finer details of the system layout instead of the high level functions of the system (Goldstein, 2005). Failure of the VCF project was also caused by continuously changing requirements. During the project life cycle, the FBI made 400 change requests most of which had major impact on what was already designed and produced. 3.4 Proper planning The VCF project lacked of proper planning. Firstly, the FBI had no Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the start of the project. Without a CIO, the FBI had no standard software infrastructure. The FBI had 23 divisions, each with their own IT budget, investigations database and applications (Goldstein, 2005). Secondly, the FBI had no Enterprise Architecture (EA) in place to assist them in making effective decisions about IT projects. This shortage lead to the SAIC developers having no formal documentation of how the FBI s IT structure and systems are mapped to its processes to guide them during the development of the VCF system. Also SAIC was awarded a contract that did not have a defined project schedule and milestones. 3.5 Realistic

Why then is it so convincing? Why does the demagogic appeal of propaganda triumph over reason and truth? The answer is that the power of our emotions and our prejudices clouds our reasoning; and even more, propaganda uses our emotions against us by manipulating them. We are shown what the propagandist wants us to see; we feel what the propagandist wants us to feel. Like any other culture, military culture has evolved from unorganized forms of administration and organization to the current modern force it is today. There are different viewpoints on military culture and understanding it requires delving in their systems. Explanation of military culture has two dimensions; one, the actual service where the force is required to interact with others while serving and two, the personal life of the veteran and the life off the military environment. The picture that explains best about the need to understand military culture is the citizen solder that serves for a few years and is not likely to return t active duty but associates with the military though totally disengaged. The lives of military in active service and the veteran are different but swayed by the same forces, the military culture. In the early decades of this century reformers championed individualism in opposition to traditional authority in both thought and social life, and especially in opposition to the Confucian family system. Others contended that what thwarted China s modernization was not the absence of individualism but rather a surplus of it. • 42. The Text Of The Meno By Plato In the text of the Meno by Plato, the dialogue develops and attempts to answer the question of what virtue is, and whether it is teachable. The paradox explained can be used to discuss merely anything, and we can thus say that either one knows or does not know. If a person knows, then they cannot investigate or question their knowledge. However, if a person does not know, they cannot inquire about it which means a person cannot question for not knowing what they do not know. Plato goes ahead and resolves the paradox in the Meno by saying that, one would not seek what he knows, for since he knows it there is no need of the inquiry, nor what he does not know, for in that case he does not even know what he is to look for. (Meno 80E) The Meno dialogue elaborates that in order to understand ways of finding the diagonal of a given square, a person needs to prompt knowledge that is concealed to the source. The Meno clearly states that knowledge is an essence to belief. Therefore, what matters and draws an ethical line between belief and knowledge is justification. If a person knows and believes, then it is not enough for one to justify it solely on those means. The Meno dialogue explains that in knowledge, a belief needs an account to tie it down and set a better example. They explore the characters horrible situations, retell the experiences through a variety of literary features which all link back to my main theme of freedom to, and freedom from. The Handmaids Tale is set in a not so distant future dystopia, the totalitarian Republic of Gilead. It is centred around Offred, a handmaid given to the Commander and his wife, Serena Joy, for reproductive purposes because of the dangerously low fertility. Handmaids are given to elite couples who have trouble conceiving in the hopes they can bear children. I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similarly, the theme of I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings is freedom and lack thereof, confinement. The poem talks of a free bird flying through sun rays and how it dares to claim the sky . It also talks of a caged bird with clipped wings and tied feet hoping for freedom and how it sings with fearful trill of things unknown and longed for still... for the caged bird sings of freedom . Narration The narration style of both texts are different, but are similar in that the readers have the opportunity to interpret the texts in their own ways and gain understanding of what the characters are going through. The Handmaids Tale is written in first person narrative and we get reflections from Offred s past before Gilead, accounts from her time in the Red Centre, where woman were taught to be subservient, and insights to her thoughts and experiences at the present. The method of first person narration gets the reader fully immersed into Offred s story and what she is going through allowing the reader to empathise with her, but is limited by that it does not allow the reader into other characters thoughts and feelings, with this interaction, ...she (Ofglen) is looking right at me... directly, steadily... unwavering... reader has to come their own interpretation of what Ofglen means. The narration of I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings is fairly simple third person narrative, it takes on a somewhat literal interpretation of freedom and lack thereof, ...wings are ... • 46. Formulation And Familiarization Study Of Geometrically... THEORITICAL FORMULATION AND FAMILIARIZATION STUDY OF GEOMETRICALLY NONLINEAR ANALYSIS OF TRUSS SYSTEMS PREAMBLE Successful implementation of the procedures in computer programs requires a thorough understanding of the associated algorithms. It is important to familiarize with the theoretical formulations along with pertinent equations. A brief description about the procedure is presented in the following sections. MEMBER FORCE DISPLACEMENT RELATIONS Case 1: Member orientation coinciding with Global Coordinate System Consider a member of plane truss undergoing deformation as shown in the Fig.4.1 Figure 4 1: Deformation and Member axial Force The displacement can be expressed as u = L L Axial stress and axial strain is given by σ = Q/A and Ɛ = u/L The stress strain relation is given by: σ = E Ɛ Q= [(E A)/L]u Case 2: Member with arbitrary orientation in Global Coordinate System The deformation and member axial force in Local coordinate system are shown in Figure 4.2. Figure 4 2: Deformation and member axial force in Local coordinate system Let (xb,yb) and (xe,ye) be the global coordinates of the joints in the undeformed configurations. Member length of undeformed configuration is given by L = √((x_b x_e )^2+(y_b y_e )^2 ) Let the displacement components in global directions at ends b and e be (v1,v2) and (v3,v4) respectively. The deformed member length is expressed as 〖L 〗^ = √([(x_e+v_3 ) (x_b+v_1 ) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Global... Abstract Using the Global Positioning System technology this system determine the location of the vehicle, and an embedded wireless system using ARM 7 micro controller controls the vehicle determining the condition of the vehicle and the driver. This system was mainly proposed for security reasons. This ARM 7 micro controller has a control over both the software and hardware. The two hard wares used here are GSM system and GPS system. The software stores the data and retrieves it for the user guidance. ARM 7 monitors all the components of the vehicle. Keywords ARM 7, components, GSM system, GPS system. I. INTRODUCTION In the developing new technologies in the world we find lack of security in many fields. Security must be enhanced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF VLDC A) Advantages: 1) Vehicle remains secured. 2) Vehicle position and accident data gets recorded. 3) Sense gas fuel leakage and display it on LCD screen. 4) Detects whether the driver has consumed alcohol or not. 5) Detects whether the driver is sleepy. 6) They are recorded and stored in a black box. B) Disadvantages: 1) Monitoring sensor must be checked regularly to ensure that it works efficiently. 2) Cost of implementing this system is quite high. VII.BACK END STORAGE AND DISPLAY The storage and display can be implemented via Visual basic or Visual Studio. The visual studio gets the information from GSM and maps the vehicle based on the longitude and latitude value. It also logs the information about the components while driving. The back end can be controlled by any individual via a computer system from anywhere. The performance about any component can be detected by a single click. The system is updated twice a minute such that the user gets the current status of the vehicle. VIII.CONCLUSION: Thus, this system will have a great scope in the future and rate of accidents can be reduced. The information about the vehicle can be stored in the cloud so that the data can last for a long period of

  • 49. Increase In Rent In the United States rent has been increased by 52.8 % from 2000 2014 and in a city like Chicago, the median household has to spend over 31.2% of their income to afford rent according to a 2014 analysis by Zillow Real Estate Research. These statistics are outrageous high, but not surprisingly shocking to a lot of people. The reason being is that in many up and coming neighborhoods throughout Chicago rent has been increased significantly over the years, one of them being Logan Square. With an increase in rent the gentrified neighborhood has seen a 11.2% decrease in population since 2000 (Hernandez 1). Numerous of low income families have been displaced while the neighborhood has been going through development to attract more wealthy and affluent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are huge number of residents who are being displaced because of the increase in rent, and the amount of wealthy and upper middle class people moving into a neighborhood like Logan Square. With the decrease in population, the area has been becoming less and less diverse and more whitewashed than anything. According to Nacho Gonzalez, a UIC professor, there are many aspects needed towards creating a gentrification situation, One element is a gentrification industry, realtors, developers, mortgage lenders, and construction companies eager to capitalize in the area. The second is a neighborhood with an attractive location preferably a disinvested area with run down but attractive architecture ripe for rehabbing. The third necessity is a population of low income people inhabiting the area with little political or economic power to fight for their territory. Closing the ring are people with disposable income looking to move into the area, usually young, childless professionals seeking location and action (Gonzalez). Developers and landowners view the area as a potential investment and not a community or the idea that they might be commercializing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
