The Media Access Control System Essay
This layer conveys the bit stream electrical impulse, light or radio signal through the network at the
electrical and mechanical level. It provides the hardware means of sending and receiving data on a
carrier, including defining cables, cards and physical aspects. Data Link (Layer 2) At this layer, data
packets are encoded and decoded into bits. It furnishes transmission protocol knowledge and
management and handles errors in the physical layer, flow control and frame synchronization. The
data link layer is divided into two sub layers: The Media Access Control (MAC) layer and the Logical
Link Control (LLC) layer. Network (Layer 3) This layer provides switching and routing technologies,
creating logical paths, known as virtual circuits, for transmitting data from node to node. Routing and
forwarding are functions of this layer, as well as addressing, internetworking, error handling,
congestion control and packet sequencing. Transport (Layer 4) This layer provides transparent transfer
of data between end systems, or hosts, and is responsible for end to end error recovery and flow
control. It ensures complete data transfer. Session (Layer 5) This layer establishes, manages and
terminates connections between applications. The session layer sets up, coordinates, and terminates
conversations, exchanges, and dialogues between the applications at each end. It deals with session
and connection coordination. Presentation (Layer 6) This layer provides independence from

My Career Goals
Success, failures, experiences, trials, and tribulations usually shape up the life and career of a person. I
am no exception to this idea. My experiences have taught me lessons. My mistakes have helped me to
grow. My successes have humbled me. My fear of the unknown has helped me face life.
I hail from a city called Chennai from the South of India and I grew up in a family rich in traditions
and orthodoxy. An age long tradition in India dictates children to decide on a career path as early as
sixth grade. Especially in a family of educated people like the one I was brought up in, children are
encouraged to think about what they want to become ever since they are toddlers trying to learn the
alphabets. Furthermore, it is also customary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This company organized various events such as music concerts, weddings, and even corporate events.
It was during that audit I found an echo of my passion for management and planning. In addition to
the audit work, I closely observed other things happening in the company and its management. My
interactions with the employees, the management staff, and the promoters helped me to learn about the
management and the running of a company. There was never a dull moment as I grasped a lot of
knowledge from what they did. My stint in the event management company sowed the seeds of my
enthusiasm for organization and management. Thereafter, I was dreaming of running my own
company and thoroughly enjoying the work. Although my father s efforts could not convince me to
like accounting, it led me to my new found passion. There was some genuine excitement in knowing
that the field of accountancy, in a way, was chosen for me, but a career in management would reflect
my choice. Furthermore, this choice was purely motivated by my passion and enthusiasm.
In the next couple of days, a bone curdling thought that I could have committed a blunder by
continuing the Chartered Accountancy profession dawned on me. Muddled and terrified, I prepared
myself to verbalize my decision to my parents. I knew that they would not take it very well but I also
had to believe that at the end of the day they would put my happiness ahead of their feelings.
Ever since I was a toddler, I dreamed of breaking free

Howard Becker Essay
Howard Becker (1963) was the main theorist that constructed the modern labelling theory in the
context of deviance. In his research, Becker (1963) finds that when individuals or a particular group s
actions or characteristics have been labelled as deviant by the wider society, it brands this individual
or group for life. The effect of this label is so powerful that Becker s research discovered that
individuals and groups that have been branded as deviant begin to be associated with the word deviant
. As a result all other characteristics and roles this individual or group plays in society such as mother,
father or priest etc. all become dwarfed by this deviant label. Therefore it becomes so severe in some
cases that the deviant label becomes their sole identity (Becker 1963). ... Show more content on

This research observed that in some tribes, stuttered speech transpired in some individuals and their
language also incorporated some aspects of stuttering. In contrast other tribes did not have stuttering
as part of their language and no individuals of the tribe stuttered. Hence this investigation found that
tribes that placed extreme importance placed on oral traditions, instilled in their children the emphasis
on not stuttering and good speaking skills. However the children that did not have good oratory skills
in storey telling were ridiculed and socially excluded, as they did not follow what the majority tribe
emphasized, which is exemplary skills in speech (Lemert, 1967). On the contrary this research found
that in tribes where exemplar oral tradition skills were not expected, there was no negative stigma or

The First English Poor Law Legislation
16th century The first English Poor Law legislation.
According to Spicker (2014) the English Poor Laws were a system of poor relief which existed until
the emergence of the modern welfare state after the Second World War. These laws purpose was
provision for setting the poor on work . The parish was the basic unit of administration. People were
tied to particular locations. If they tried to get relief outside the parish of their birth they could be
removed which means not given relief or transported to another parish. The Poor Laws relief did not
generally include accommodation but in 17th century first few workhouses were established. In
Scotland they were called houses of correction .
Workhouse is a building where very poor people in Britain used to work, in the past, in exchange for
food and shelter (Cambridge Dictionaries Online, 2015, available online at
http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/british/workhouse, retrieved on 07 June 2015).
19th century The increase of poor and working class population due to mass industrialisation and
capitalism leaded to development of more central and state controlled but still basic welfare system.
1834 The Poor Law Amendment Act sets up a national Poor Law Commission which was a start point
to state education and health care system.
1839 1840 The Poor Law Commission enquiry identified disease as a major cause of pauperism .

The Human Reproduction Act, An Individual
Under s.60 of the Assisted Human Reproduction Act, an individual (a) is liable, on conviction on
indictment, to a fine not exceeding $500,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years, or
to both; or (b) is liable, on summary conviction, to a fine not exceeding $250,000 or to imprisonment
for a term not exceeding four years, or to both for not complying with the guidelines set out regarding
the duties of the reproduction of a child. A surrogate mother is defined as a woman who carries a fetus
conceived through an assisted reproduction procedure which is derived from the genes of a donor or
donors, and with the intent of surrendering such child at the time of birth (AHRA, 2004). However,
there is still ambiguity felt between surrogates and parents related to what the law sets out as their
legal duties in conceiving a child, and this is also pertinent in relation to the context of a working
contract. Having said that, this essay aims at addressing the unclarity, pointing to the main arguments
in favor of the Assisted Human Reproduction Act, and how the decision was aimed to safeguard the
rights of those involved; including the child, and to prevent culpability issues within the health sector
and many others linked to the overall process.
To understand why this is a highly controversial issue today, we must look at some of the main
objectives of why this law was enacted and the compromises made in order to achieve satisfaction of
all. First, what are the

Wicked Women
Women are treacherous beings who only wish to bring trouble and torment to mankind. In Roger
Lancelyn Green s King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table, women are portrayed as horrible
human beings because they are evil, disloyal, and tempting.
The first reason women are considered horrible human beings is because they are portrayed as evil.
On the very day of the battle she found her husband King Urience lying asleep on his couch; and at
once she called for one of her damsels to her and said:
Go fetch me my lord s sword, for I never saw a better moment than this wherein to slay him!

formulate new perspectives as truth is uncovered. Exploring new worlds, people and places, thrilling
the individual to reevaluate their understanding of the world and society transforming perceptions.
This is explored in the reality documentary series directed by Ivan O Mahoney s Go Back To Where

Discovery can be confronting and distressing at times triggers the responders to empathise with the

Nudgee Beach Lab Report
Abstract
The aim of this experiment is to test the changes in and effects o abiotic and biotic factors along a
transect line form low tide to high tide in the mangroves at Nudgee Beach. The hypothesis is that at
low tide the soil texture would be a brown clay with a pH of 9 10, however; at high tide the soil would
be light brown sand with a ph of 8 9. The purpose of this report is to analyze whether the hypothesis
true. The results found match with the hypothesis. At low tide the pH was 8 ½ , whereas at high tide
the pH was 8. At each tide, the air temperatures were similar, except for the low tide, where the
temperature was 17.5°C. The conclusion made was that because mangroves grow better on
ecosystems where there is a high level of rainfall

final question focus on relationship between social status and the environmental awareness.
1 The article of Josée Johnston (2007), focuses about the possibility of being a consumer and
citizenship at the same time. The author pointed out, the contradiction between the two concepts.
According to him, the citizen consumer hybrid provides relatively superficial attention to citizenship
goals (Johnston, 2007, p. 262), and it serves the marketed oriented adaptation than conserving the

Effects of Alcohol on Coordination Essay examples
BIO103 Environmental Biology Effects of Alcohol on Human Coordination
Introduction:
Alcohol is known to produce many chronic abnormalities that are attributable to parietal lobe
dysfunction. The self becomes aware of the body being a distant object but it feels a strange
attachment feeling (Miller et al, 1991). Considerable laboratory research indicates that different levels
of alcohol consumption contributes to overall behavioural and cognitive functions and therefore the
reason for carrying out this study is to test the effects of alcohol on human coordination. According to
Allum et al (1998) Alcohol effects information received by brain receptors causing the working ones

Although this is the case, the investigation was poorly set out. Only one standard alcoholic drink was
consumed which, as shown in the data, isn t enough to lose coordination unless the subject had
extremely low tolerance to alcohol. Subjects were not discriminated by age gender and body weight
which would have shown different results if these points were discriminated against and would have
displayed a stronger correlation between the effects of alcohol on human coordination. The sample
was not large enough to show a strong enough correlation between alcohol and coordination in the
data therefore making the test inaccurate. Overall it seemed that as the subjects had more practice at
the game, the better they became.
In a past investigation carried out by Patel et al (2010), three groups of adults were assessed at 0.00%,
0.06% and 0.10% blood alcohol concentration to assess if alcohol affected body coordination.
Subjects were asked to rate their drunkenness on a scale from 1 to 10 for each group. Results had
shown that their score had no effect on body movement coordination patterns but those who consumed
a higher amount of alcohol experienced a more significant effect on their coordination due to blood
alcohol concentration. In this experiment, the groups showed a larger correlation between effects of
alcohol on human coordination and therefore more accurate

The New Tax Law Through President Obama s Term, Congress
With possibly the last changes to the tax law through President Obama s term, Congress agrees on
making many of the Tax Extenders permanent. These so called Tax Extenders are tax provisions that
Congress has passed over the past few years with short term expiration dates, at which point the
provision would lapse. Typically, after the provision lapsed, Congress would retroactively reinstate the
provisions, thus extending its life through the current tax year. This has led to some tax planners
relying on the hopes that Congress will reinstate these provisions, without the explicit knowledge that
they would do so. Therefore, the now permanent provisions (those that have been extended without a
set expiration date) are able to give tax planning professionals more certainty in their projections. The
act made several changes to Section 529 Plans alongside with these extenders . The chart below
briefly summarizes the new tax law changes from the PATH Act of 2015 that most closely affect
individuals and small businesses. It should be noted that this does not encompass all aspects of the act,
as there are several changes that apply to larger corporations, IRS reform, and the prevention of fraud
and abuse. *Adapted from Congress Approves (Mostly Permanent) 2015 Tax Extenders Legislation

Essay on Manipulation through Language in The Memorandum
Manipulation through Language in The Memorandum
How one utilizes language to perpetuate certain images or perspectives can greatly influence the way
people think. One can use language to manipulate the minds of others and bring them under some
form of subjugation. In Vaclav Havel s The Memorandum certain characters use this tactic of
manipulation through different means that involve language, and in the process, they gain the
authority or recognition they are seeking. Ballas promotes the new creation of the synthetic language,
Ptydepe, which reduces humans by mechanizing them for the purpose of a more scientific and

What Is The Positive Impact Of The Stock Market Crash Of 1929
In the years leading up to 1929, the American economy was thriving and stock trade sales were at their
highest peak. The majority of people were thriving in this newfound success, and had been constantly
building off their fortunes. The people of the United States had never lived through such a time, so
experiencing this for the first time they were ignorant of any negative effects that could occur. They
never would have expected the economy to undergo such a drastic change in such a short period of

learning. If a learner earns high grades it is concluded that they may also have learned a lot while low
grades indicate lesser learning. However, many experiences and studies found out that there are also
several factors that would account for the grades. No single factor can be definitely pointed out as

My Job At The Club
Rained Out I ve settled into my job at the club pretty quickly. The manager and I have decided that I
will wear a bikini top with either pants or skirts while I work. We talked about having me work
topless, but since the front door opens and people outside could see me, we ruled against it. At this
point, I have been here several weeks. I have become friends with most of the girls, but especially
with Angel. I also get along well with Rochelle, Candy, and Sky. Not their real names, of course.
There is a group of other dancers that seem to hang out together and keep to themselves. They say hi
to me when they walk in, but that s about the extent of our relationships. It can get a little bitchy in
here with the majority of employees being women. I tend to be viewed as a neutral party since I m not
a direct threat to the other dancers. Inside the club, the competition tends to be a little fierce, and
sometimes it s so catty I m happy I sit on the outside. On this particular Tuesday, I get to work a
couple minutes early. I look at the schedule and see that Angel, Sky, Roxy, Misty, and Sabrina are
scheduled to work the afternoon shift, which starts at 4:00. I page back to the dressing room to find
out which dancers have arrived. Angel answers the call and tells me that so far only her and Sky are
back there. I m supposed to know which dancers are working in case customers call and ask. I ve even
had a guy leave before because the girl he wanted to see wasn t working.

Food Safety Modernization Act ( Fsma ) Into Law
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention documented that about one out of six Americans get
sick (approximately 48 million people), 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die each year from
foodborne diseases (CDC.gov). According to the FDA this is a significant public health concern which
can be preventable (FDA.gov). This was the main reason why on January 4th, 2011, President Obama
signed the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) into law. Some specific examples and major
events that might have led to signing the FSMA into a law are major outbreaks that have happened in
the past few years. Some examples are the Escherichia coli O157:H7 outbreak which was linked to
spinach, contamination of wheat gluten with melamine, and the outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium
in Peanut Corporation of America s peanut butter (Acheson, 2015). The FSMA amends the Federal
Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD C) with respect to safety of the food supply. The FD C Act consists
of the regulation of food, drugs, devices, and biological products by the FDA. These changes were
made in order to highlight that the FDA has to adapt the way it operates according to what is
happening in the food industry. Our food now travels more to get to us and the pathogens that we
encountered before are now changing, adapting and sometimes becoming stronger and harder to
defeat. In addition, people live longer and develop chronic diseases, making them susceptible to
getting a foodborne illness. FSMA provides

Warren E Buffett, 2005 Essay
UV0016 Version 2.5 WARREN E. BUFFETT, 2005 On May 24, 2005, Warren E. Buffett, the
chairperson and chief executive officer (CEO) of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., announced that
MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, would acquire the
electric utility PacifiCorp. In Buffett s largest deal since 1998, and the second largest of his entire
career, MidAmerican would purchase PacifiCorp from its parent, Scottish Power plc, for $5.1 billion
in cash and $4.3 billion in liabilities and preferred stock. The energy sector has long interested us, and
this is the right fit, Buffett said. At the announcement, Berkshire Hathaway s Class A shares closed up

What were Buffett s probable motives in the acquisition? What did Buffett s offer say about his
valuation of PacifiCorp, and how would it compare with valuations for other regulated utilities?
Would Berkshire s acquisition of PacifiCorp prove to be a success? How would Buffett define
success? Berkshire Hathaway Inc. Berkshire Hathaway was incorporated in 1889 as Berkshire Cotton
Manufacturing, and eventually grew to become one of New England s biggest textile producers,
accounting for 25% of the United States cotton textile production. In 1955, Berkshire merged with
Hathaway Manufacturing and began a secular decline due to inflation, technological change, and
intensifying competition from foreign competitors. In 1965, Buffett and some partners acquired
control of Berkshire Hathaway, believing that its financial decline could be reversed. Over the next 20
years, it became apparent that large capital investments would be required to remain competitive and
that even then the financial returns would be mediocre. Fortunately, the textile group generated

The Dynamic Gastric Model ( Dgm )
The dynamic gastric model (DGM) was invented and designed by Dr. Martin Wickham and Dr.
Richard Faulks from the United Kingdom. Even though the model is only half the size of the human
digestive system, it can be used to investigate the effects of diet, drugs, alcohol and other factors on
digestion. The figure is made of plastic and metal and is composed in two parts. The upper section is a
funnel and a cylinder shaped container where food, enzyme, and gastric acid are mixed. After the
hydration reaction, the mixture is transported down a metal tube to get crushed and is later stored in a
transparent container to test the level of fat, protein or bacteria. Based on the various functions of the
model, technology replaces human body and is ethically friendlier. Hence DGM well illustrates the
digestive system, which brings a great contribution to development in science.
The major limitation that differs dynamic gastric model from real organism is the inability to process
active transportation. Without transport channel, molecules could not flow against the gradient.
Consequently, the model fails to mimic the property of parietal cells, which the hydrochloric acid is
secreted by active transport into the stomach of hydrogen ion against a concentration gradient of about
1 million to 1. Thus, the limitation of the model does show the detail and uniqueness of a living
organism.
On the other hand, dynamic gastric model mimics real organism from dialysis tubing, uneven mixing,

Culture And Identity ( Rough Draft ) Essay
Essay 1: Culture and Identity (Rough Draft)
Imagine a life without writing, and without art; it s pretty grim isn t it? Without these essential cultural
components, life would be a sad place to live in, because no other cultural aspect would survive. The
most essential cultural elements are Art and Literature, because art and literature lead into the other
cultural aspects.
Without arts and literature, you couldn t have the rest of the cultural elements. Culture manifested
itself with the aid of art and literature, without the help of writing or art, cultural unity would be
impossible. A good example of a culture without writing and art would be the early humans; their
culture did not carry along, and one tribe would be completely different than the other, and they
couldn t even speak to express their ideas. It wasn t until early humans began to draw cave art that
ideas could be expressed, and then culture grew and evolved and spread into government s and
civilizations and certain ways of doing things, as well as religion and any of the other cultural
elements. That s why art and literature are prerequisite to the development of all the other elements of
culture. Art and literature are necessary to communicate and spread the rest of the cultural elements.
Civilization is the backbone of culture, and you need art and literature to connect a civilization.
Art is important to culture and our society. Society is culture, or more accurately, society is the people

Beyond The Things They Carried
Beyond the Things They Carried
The Vietnam War began in 1954, consisting of many extensive, horrific years of battle that seemed to
create more harm to the United States and its soldiers rather than to North Vietnam. The 500,000
United States military personnel returned home with the loss of the war and the loss of their friends on
their minds. Although the physical and emotional experiences that the men went through is
unfathomable, Tim O Brien does a great job portraying what life as a soldier was truly like in the
Vietnam War. In the book The Things They Carried, Tim O Brien depicts the unstable emotional and
psychological condition of the American soldiers through the symbolism of their belongings and
personal anecdotes from their lives. The book opens with Tim O Brien listing items that the soldiers
needed to carry with them for life in Vietnam, such as a P 38 can opener, mosquito repellent, C
rations, dog tags, and many more necessities, weighing around twelve to eighteen pounds in total.
Many men also had the added weight of weapons needed for combat, which then added another five to
twenty six pounds depending on what weapon and the amount of ammunition necessary. On average,
most men carried around thirty pounds, but the load was much higher when considering the emotional
and psychological weight put on their shoulders from the impact of these items. Early on in the book
Tim O Brien states, They carried all they could bear, and then some, including a silent

Amusing Ourselves To Death Essay
Question Two:
While having read many different authors this semester for this class, two seemed to jump out at me in
having the most in common. Neil Postman(1985) does not specifically discuss the societal pressures
of forced gender roles in advertising the same way the Jean Kilbourne addresses in her book and film
series, but there is a connection in the topics they discuss. I was a bit put off by the task of reading the
entire Postman book, Amusing Ourselves to Death, however, the topics in each chapter make for some
thought provoking and tantalizing ideas of the societal issues that we seem to take for granted. The
chapter about public discourse and the new methods that were employed to create communication
through the age of exposition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These two authors do not necessarily have much in common on the surface but just below when one
can ascertain the message being put out by each author it is clearly connected in the form of
technology, its historical and current uses and how the advent of easy communication technology has
allowed us to water down our vast culture by making it easy to objectify humans, animals and nature
if the explanation is sensational enough. I ve learned through reading Neil Postman s book(1985),
Amusing Ourselves to Death, that we seem to look at forms of communication as following a linear
path. The invention of easy communication created a niche in societies that became a place for further
discourse, sharing of ideas and knowledge, but in the end, was used ultimately to control, shape and
form the masses. Neil Postman delved into topics that I think are somewhat forgotten by history and
societies as they become so engrained in our way of viewing the world around us. Jean Kilbourne
(1999) taught me that we are all subjected to societal gender normalization through mass media, print
media and news programs. The sheer lack of honest and open communication in our society puts us at
risk for being objectified, sexualized and demoralized, all without realizing that this is

On September 30th, I had the pleasure of attending the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at the Fisher
Auditorium. We walked in quietly to the back row of our section because the show had already
started, so it would have been rude to walk up to where our actual seats were. As we took our seats the
orchestra sat up there in the beautiful auditorium dressed in their all black formal attire holding their
various instruments including the woodwinds, strings, brass, and percussions. The orchestra was in the
middle of playing Symphony No. 8 in F major, Opus 93. This symphony included 5 compositions that
were all very similar to each other. In most of the compositions they took the audience on a roller
coaster ride. The rhythm of the compositions would

Medea By Euripides Play Analysis
Power in itself is not good or evil. The use of power is heavily influenced by the moral compass of
those with power. It isn t uncommon for someone with the possession of power to bend and change
their morals to gain more power. Power used corruptly does not always have to be from someone like
a king. Greed for power in itself can corrupt someone. Emotions of vengeance, envy, and lust can
make a person in power corrupt too. Whether or not power has corrupted someone, their character
determines how they use their power in the end. In Euripides play, Medea, Jason s greed for power
corrupts him. During the beginning of Euripides play, Medea and Jason are two lovers that had just
moved to Corinth, and together they had two children. Jason decides that he will try to marry king
Creon s daughter Glauce to make him the heir of the kingdom. Jason allowed his moral compass to
change for his search of power. Power corrupted Jason even though he did not have it. Leaving Medea
for Glauce will turn out to be Jason s worst decision for his families future. Jason s actions angered
Medea, leading her be filled by vengeance. Medea lets vengeance get the best of her, and thinks that
killing Jason would not be enough to fulfill her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sita. After Sita angered Ravana in an argument he said, For your stupid statement, I would have
crushed and eaten you, except for the fact you are a woman and I want you and will die if I don t have

  • 5. Howard Becker Essay Howard Becker (1963) was the main theorist that constructed the modern labelling theory in the context of deviance. In his research, Becker (1963) finds that when individuals or a particular group s actions or characteristics have been labelled as deviant by the wider society, it brands this individual or group for life. The effect of this label is so powerful that Becker s research discovered that individuals and groups that have been branded as deviant begin to be associated with the word deviant . As a result all other characteristics and roles this individual or group plays in society such as mother, father or priest etc. all become dwarfed by this deviant label. A surrogate mother is defined as a woman who carries a fetus conceived through an assisted reproduction procedure which is derived from the genes of a donor or donors, and with the intent of surrendering such child at the time of birth (AHRA, 2004). However, there is still ambiguity felt between surrogates and parents related to what the law sets out as their legal duties in conceiving a child, and this is also pertinent in relation to the context of a working contract. Having said that, this essay aims at addressing the unclarity, pointing to the main arguments in favor of the Assisted Human Reproduction Act, and how the decision was aimed to safeguard the rights of those involved; including the child, and to prevent culpability issues within the health sector and many others linked to the overall process. • 15. The New Tax Law Through President Obama s Term, Congress With possibly the last changes to the tax law through President Obama s term, Congress agrees on making many of the Tax Extenders permanent. These so called Tax Extenders are tax provisions that Congress has passed over the past few years with short term expiration dates, at which point the provision would lapse. Typically, after the provision lapsed, Congress would retroactively reinstate the provisions, thus extending its life through the current tax year. This has led to some tax planners relying on the hopes that Congress will reinstate these provisions, without the explicit knowledge that they would do so. Therefore, the now permanent provisions (those that have been extended without a set expiration date) are able to give tax planning professionals more certainty in their projections. The act made several changes to Section 529 Plans alongside with these extenders . The chart below briefly summarizes the new tax law changes from the PATH Act of 2015 that most closely affect individuals and small businesses. Inside the club, the competition tends to be a little fierce, and sometimes it s so catty I m happy I sit on the outside. On this particular Tuesday, I get to work a couple minutes early. I look at the schedule and see that Angel, Sky, Roxy, Misty, and Sabrina are scheduled to work the afternoon shift, which starts at 4:00. I page back to the dressing room to find out which dancers have arrived. Angel answers the call and tells me that so far only her and Sky are back there. I m supposed to know which dancers are working in case customers call and ask. I ve even had a guy leave before because the girl he wanted to see wasn t working. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Food Safety Modernization Act ( Fsma ) Into Law The Center for Disease Control and Prevention documented that about one out of six Americans get sick (approximately 48 million people), 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die each year from foodborne diseases (CDC.gov). According to the FDA this is a significant public health concern which can be preventable (FDA.gov). This was the main reason why on January 4th, 2011, President Obama signed the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) into law. Some specific examples and major events that might have led to signing the FSMA into a law are major outbreaks that have happened in the past few years. Some examples are the Escherichia coli O157:H7 outbreak which was linked to spinach, contamination of wheat gluten with melamine, and the outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium in Peanut Corporation of America s peanut butter (Acheson, 2015). The FSMA amends the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD C) with respect to safety of the food supply. The FD C Act consists of the regulation of food, drugs, devices, and biological products by the FDA. These changes were made in order to highlight that the FDA has to adapt the way it operates according to what is happening in the food industry. Our food now travels more to get to us and the pathogens that we encountered before are now changing, adapting and sometimes becoming stronger and harder to defeat. In addition, people live longer and develop chronic diseases, making them susceptible to getting a foodborne illness. FSMA provides ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Berkshire Hathaway was incorporated in 1889 as Berkshire Cotton Manufacturing, and eventually grew to become one of New England s biggest textile producers, accounting for 25% of the United States cotton textile production. In 1955, Berkshire merged with Hathaway Manufacturing and began a secular decline due to inflation, technological change, and intensifying competition from foreign competitors. In 1965, Buffett and some partners acquired control of Berkshire Hathaway, believing that its financial decline could be reversed. Over the next 20 years, it became apparent that large capital investments would be required to remain competitive and that even then the financial returns would be mediocre. • 28. The Dynamic Gastric Model ( Dgm ) The dynamic gastric model (DGM) was invented and designed by Dr. Martin Wickham and Dr. Richard Faulks from the United Kingdom. Even though the model is only half the size of the human digestive system, it can be used to investigate the effects of diet, drugs, alcohol and other factors on digestion. The figure is made of plastic and metal and is composed in two parts. The upper section is a funnel and a cylinder shaped container where food, enzyme, and gastric acid are mixed. After the hydration reaction, the mixture is transported down a metal tube to get crushed and is later stored in a transparent container to test the level of fat, protein or bacteria. Based on the various functions of the model, technology replaces human body and is ethically friendlier. Hence DGM well illustrates the digestive system, which brings a great contribution to development in science. The major limitation that differs dynamic gastric model from real organism is the inability to process active transportation. Without transport channel, molecules could not flow against the gradient. Consequently, the model fails to mimic the property of parietal cells, which the hydrochloric acid is secreted by active transport into the stomach of hydrogen ion against a concentration gradient of about 1 million to 1. Thus, the limitation of the model does show the detail and uniqueness of a living organism. On the other hand, dynamic gastric model mimics real organism from dialysis tubing, uneven mixing, ... • 29. Culture And Identity ( Rough Draft ) Essay Essay 1: Culture and Identity (Rough Draft) Imagine a life without writing, and without art; it s pretty grim isn t it? Without these essential cultural components, life would be a sad place to live in, because no other cultural aspect would survive. The most essential cultural elements are Art and Literature, because art and literature lead into the other cultural aspects. Without arts and literature, you couldn t have the rest of the cultural elements. Culture manifested itself with the aid of art and literature, without the help of writing or art, cultural unity would be impossible. A good example of a culture without writing and art would be the early humans; their culture did not carry along, and one tribe would be completely different than the other, and they couldn t even speak to express their ideas. It wasn t until early humans began to draw cave art that ideas could be expressed, and then culture grew and evolved and spread into government s and civilizations and certain ways of doing things, as well as religion and any of the other cultural elements. That s why art and literature are prerequisite to the development of all the other elements of culture. Art and literature are necessary to communicate and spread the rest of the cultural elements. Civilization is the backbone of culture, and you need art and literature to connect a civilization. Art is important to culture and our society. • 32. Beyond The Things They Carried Beyond the Things They Carried The Vietnam War began in 1954, consisting of many extensive, horrific years of battle that seemed to create more harm to the United States and its soldiers rather than to North Vietnam. The 500,000 United States military personnel returned home with the loss of the war and the loss of their friends on their minds. Although the physical and emotional experiences that the men went through is unfathomable, Tim O Brien does a great job portraying what life as a soldier was truly like in the Vietnam War. In the book The Things They Carried, Tim O Brien depicts the unstable emotional and psychological condition of the American soldiers through the symbolism of their belongings and personal anecdotes from their lives. The book opens with Tim O Brien listing items that the soldiers needed to carry with them for life in Vietnam, such as a P 38 can opener, mosquito repellent, C rations, dog tags, and many more necessities, weighing around twelve to eighteen pounds in total. Many men also had the added weight of weapons needed for combat, which then added another five to twenty six pounds depending on what weapon and the amount of ammunition necessary. On average, most men carried around thirty pounds, but the load was much higher when considering the emotional and psychological weight put on their shoulders from the impact of these items. • 33. Amusing Ourselves To Death Essay Question Two: While having read many different authors this semester for this class, two seemed to jump out at me in having the most in common. Neil Postman(1985) does not specifically discuss the societal pressures of forced gender roles in advertising the same way the Jean Kilbourne addresses in her book and film series, but there is a connection in the topics they discuss. I was a bit put off by the task of reading the entire Postman book, Amusing Ourselves to Death, however, the topics in each chapter make for some thought provoking and tantalizing ideas of the societal issues that we seem to take for granted. The chapter about public discourse and the new methods that were employed to create communication through the age of exposition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These two authors do not necessarily have much in common on the surface but just below when one can ascertain the message being put out by each author it is clearly connected in the form of technology, its historical and current uses and how the advent of easy communication technology has allowed us to water down our vast culture by making it easy to objectify humans, animals and nature if the explanation is sensational enough. I ve learned through reading Neil Postman s book(1985), Amusing Ourselves to Death, that we seem to look at forms of communication as following a linear path. The invention of easy communication created a niche in societies that became a place for further discourse, sharing of ideas and knowledge, but in the end, was used ultimately to control, shape and form the masses. Neil Postman delved into topics that I think are somewhat forgotten by history and societies as they become so engrained in our way of viewing the world around us. Jean Kilbourne (1999) taught me that we are all subjected to societal gender normalization through mass media, print media and news programs. The sheer lack of honest and open communication in our society puts us at risk for being objectified, sexualized and demoralized, all without realizing that this is ... • 35. Medea By Euripides Play Analysis Power in itself is not good or evil. The use of power is heavily influenced by the moral compass of those with power. It isn t uncommon for someone with the possession of power to bend and change their morals to gain more power. Power used corruptly does not always have to be from someone like a king. Greed for power in itself can corrupt someone. Emotions of vengeance, envy, and lust can make a person in power corrupt too. Whether or not power has corrupted someone, their character determines how they use their power in the end. In Euripides play, Medea, Jason s greed for power corrupts him. During the beginning of Euripides play, Medea and Jason are two lovers that had just moved to Corinth, and together they had two children. Jason decides that he will try to marry king Creon s daughter Glauce to make him the heir of the kingdom. Jason allowed his moral compass to change for his search of power.
