Cinderella And Little Mermaid Analysis
While researching a topic for this paper I recalled all of the fairy tales and concepts we
discussed in class and decided to compare the Grimm Brother s Cinderella and Andersen s Little
Mermaid. I decided to research these two fairy tales because they were the two main stories that I
read and watched as a child, and since the original stories are completely different than what I
have grown up with. The two stories start out in similar ways, a young girl longing to venture
somewhere and experience what is unfamiliar to them; however, these stories end up going in two
completely different directions. I would like to focus on the two main characters compare by
curiosity and the actions they took in order to achieve their dreams. In order... Show more content

As I stated before, once the Little Mermaid reaches the top of the water, she begins to wonder
more and more, going further than any of her sisters. She also begins to dream of a life on land
and is curious about what a life with the prince on shore would be like. This is unlike Cinderella
because she goes to the festival night after night to try and conform to society, Andersen never
wrote that Cinderella dreamt of a life with the prince. The only characters in Cinderella that
dreamt of a life of fame and fortune were the stepsisters, who wanted to marry the prince, and the
stepmother, who wanted one of her biological daughters to marry the prince. Next, I would like
to compare is the course of action Cinderella and the Little Mermaid took in order to achieve all
of their dreams. While Cinderella was forbidden by her stepmother to take part in the festivities
after completing a list of tedious chores she only goal to be like everyone else and dance at the
festival. This would allow her to transform from an almost slave like daughter to a normal
member of society. Cinderella wanted to better the situation she was in, which is a goal that
everyone has; however, because she was forbidden to attend and since she had no clothes she
cried on her mother s grave. To our surprise, the tree, that she planted on her mother s grave, was
magic and gave her the proper clothes for her

Eagle-Headed Apkallu Guardian Figure Analysis

Explained in the dissertation written by Gane, the Assyrian name of the bucket is banddudГ»
which translates exactly to bucket , and the name for the cone is mulluli which translates to
purifier. The bucket is said to contain holy water, so when the purifying cone is dipped into the
bucket and then sprinkled atop the Sacred Tree, it leads to the conclusion that the apkallu figure is
performing an act of purification for the land of Ashur. However, another interpretation of these
items is that the shape of the cone also resembles that of the male flower of date palms, and is held
in the right hand of the subject which symbolizes masculinity. The bucket could be interpreted as
containing pollen, and thus when the cone is dipped into the bucket held in the feminine hand and
sprinkled atop the Sacred Tree, it leads to the conclusion that the apkallu figure is performing an
act of fertilization for the land of Ashur. Either way, the apkallu figure is performing some kind of
ritual to secure the abundance of the

Difference between Dementia, Delirium and Alzheimer s
INTRODUCTION:
Delirium refers to confusion or acute confusional state of mind. It can be caused by physical illness
or mental illness .delirium is most common in elderly patients. Basically delirium is condition
which results in confusion, also includes changes in behavior, thinking, attention and mood.
Difference between delirium, dementia and Alzheimer s disorder:
People suffering from dementia are highly susceptible to delirium but dementia should not be
confused with delirium.
In dementia changes in memory occurs very slowly like in months and years.
Whereas delirium is more referred to confusion emerging over days and weeks.
CONDITIONSDELIRIUMDEMENTIA
ONSETWithin a short timeWorsen gradually overtime
ATTENTIONInability to maintain attentionRemain generally alert at early stages
FLUCTUATIONSymptoms fluctuate throughout the dayMemory and thinking remain constant

Delirium is also different from Alzheimer s disease that in delirium confusion fluctuates over the
day dramatically. Thinking and conversation can be disorganized at any time, in delirium patient
may become hyper alert or drowsiness state can be occurred.
CLASSIFICATION OF DELIRIUM:
Clinically delirium can be classified as:

A Summary Of John Locke And Jean-Jacques Rousseau
The Enlightenment period questioned traditional methods of educating children and introduced
revolutionary new ways of thinking to bring about improvements in education and to actual allow
students to enjoy learning. Before the Enlightenment, children were treated like small adults with
no thought given to the development of very young children and once they were old enough to
receive educationit consisted of forced memory work along with harsh discipline (Platz Arellano,
2011). The Enlightenment changed this way of thinking by questioning what we are like naturally
like (human nature), vs how we are influence by society (Norris, 2017, slide 25). It brought about
the belief in the possibility of improvement of all of humanity... Show more content on

When Locke left London to live in France and Holland because of health issues, he wrote letters to
Edward and Mary Clark telling them his thoughts on how they should educate their son. These
letters were later published in 1632 as Some Thoughts Concerning Education (Murphy, 2006 ).
Locke s Some Thoughts Concerning Education criticizes the teaching methods of that time and
suggests improvements but it also covers a wide range of other topics like how children should
be dress, what they should eat, the importance of regularly going to the bathroom, and the need
for physical activity, all of which goes towards making a sound mind in a sound body (Locke,
1692, sec.1). Locke (1692) states the importance of education when he writes, that of all the men
we meet with, nine parts of ten are what they are, good or evil, useful or not, by their education
(sec. 1). Although Locke s treatise on education was written for boys of the gentlemen class
(Shouse, 1931. p. 25), it was implied that he was writing for the education of all children,
including girls. Locke s educational theory emphasized nurture over nature because as Henson
(2003) states, he introduced the idea of tabula rasa or blank slate, proposing that at birth the mind
is a blank slate the only way to fill it is through having experiences, feeling these experiences, and
reflecting on them (p.7). Locke believed in finding a virtuous tutor when children were young to
lead them by good

Francis Scott Key s The Star-Spangled Banner
The Star Spangled Banner was written by Francis Scott Key as he watched his fellow Americans
stand strong in their darkest hour. For over twenty four hours Fort McHenry was bombarded by
British Navy, but the American troops fought, and so did their families. The Americans rallied
around the singular flag that stood high in the fort, and a flag that was a target for the British
armada. They planned to destroy the flag to disrupt moral, but the Americans refused to let it fall.
They used that singular flag as motivation, and motivation that eventually won them the battle. The
flag still holds the same purpose today. To remember those who have fought, or are currently
fighting in our armies. It also serves as a source of pride, motivation, and patriotism towards our
country. Knowing what our flag means to our history and our country, we can t possibly keep
letting our countries source of pride be disrespected by those attempting to promote their own cause.

show the strength and unity of our nation. Kneeling, on the other hand, goes against both of these
ideas, and disrespects those who have fought for us. Kneeling shows a lack of care for the country

Presidency And The Media Essay
Presidency: The Strategies of the Media Richard Elliot Neustadt, a profound political scientist and
advisor to many presidents, has often argued over the years that presidential power is probably
best understood as the power to persuade. Over the years, the presidency has evolved from what
our Founder s had to endure and has now turned into an obsession with news media. The President
of the United Statesis the most powerful being in our country with the ability to control what
Americans can and cannot know for better or worse. The presidency and news media have a more
complicated relationship than what others might say. There are times where the president is more
than willing to cooperate with the news, but there is also an equal amount of time where the
presidency and the press are at odds. In our country s lifetime of presidents, there have been
numerous attempts and successions to control the flow of information by using the media in a
strategic manner such as being able to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Arab Republic of Egypt has recently experienced a political revolution. In order to understand

significant socioeconomic change on top of political reform; however, while mass media gives
extensive coverage to the violence and turmoil occurring on Egyptian soil, little is known to the
outside world about the nation s people and culture. As such, this paper not only provides

Furthermore, Muhammad Ali encouraged students, businessmen, and scholars to go to France.
Colonial rule and European modernization eclipsed the institutions of an Islamic state and society
the sultan, Islamic law, and ulama. Egypt s relationship to the west was further exacerbated with
the Suez Canal project in 1869, as Egypt obtained loans from Europe reaching 100 million pounds.
Through these means, Egypt became incorporated within the European economic system. While
France and England ultimately accepted Egyptian independence in 1922, Egypt was still
completely rooted in and relied on Europe through the political, economic, and historic ties. Even
after achieving independence, the King and Prime Minister installed were loyal to British powers.
This brief history illustrates the difficulties Egypt faces in trying to embrace the Islamic union of
religion and society amongst colonial and western intrusion.
The once hailed western lifestyle was now criticized as responsible for the westernization and
secularization of Muslim societies from its institutions, to values, to dress, music, and cinema. This
led to a moral decline and spiritual malaise. The initial reaction of revivalists was aimed at
colonialism because it

Forgive your enemies, but never forget their names (John F. Kennedy Quotes). John F. Kennedy
was a very influential man in American history, along with one of the most recognizable names in
the world. John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the thirty fifth president of the United States from 1961 to

The Effects Of Violent Video Games On Children
The question is why children are being affected by these games. Is it that the child are
mimicking what they see or is it effecting the child s brain. At Indiana University, Dr. Vincent
Matthews decided to create a study to watch brain patterns after playing violent video games.
They performed three different tests to find out how these games impacted the brain. They
picked out 28 students from campus to play either violent video games, first person shooter
games, or non violent games. What they found was after a couple hours playing these games
that those who play violent video games showed no brain activity in areas involving emotions,
attention, and impulses. There is science behind violent video games and their negative effects
on people. Researchers ran another test after the participants played the games. They held up
cards with non violent words like run or walk, and they were in different colors. They also held
up cards with violent words like hit or push which were also in different colors. Those who play
violent video games were equal to the non violent video gameplayers in the original testing but
when it came to the violent words, violent video gamers should no brain activity in the area of
emotion like the non violent gamers. When faced with violent topics, the gamers were desensitized
to the topic. Alice Park stated in her article, How Playing Violent Video Games May Change the
Brain, The brain changes that Matthews group saw were similar to those seen in

Louisiana Wetlands Research Paper
A wetland is an area of land that retains it water on it surface as in swamps, marshes, and bogs.
Although we would prefer to keep the wetlands they are being destroyed very rapidly. Louisiana
loses about 25 35 square miles of wetlands each year. By 2050 it s estimated that the annual loss of
fishing income due to coastal wetlanderosion will be around $550 million dollars of revenue. The
wetlands are valuable in many ways. They provide fish for commercial fishing and eating. The
wetlands also act as a sponge for floodwater during storms and heavy rains. Also retaining its
water during dry spells as a flash flood preventer. When it comes to the culture of Louisiana, the
wetlands play a very large role in it, mainly in seafood. In Louisiana we are the first to harvest

A swamp is a wetland that has a very high concentration of woody plants. The soil has a very
lackluster drainage system and retains the majority of its water that it soaks up. Swamps are
deeper than marshes (another type of wetland) which can be about 3 feet deep. You can find a
swamp on slow moving streams, rivers, or low isolated areas. An example of an area that low
and isolated would be the Everglades in Florida, which are a massive system of wetlands.
Although you may think of a swamps as having mainly trees, some swamps are completely
dominated by shrubs. Those are the two categories of a swamp: Shrubs and Trees. Swamps are a
wetland, and wetlands are known for having an abundance of animals, some of those are:
Alligators, beavers, otters, snakes, insect, bobcats, and very large amounts of birds. Swamps
have rich soils for sustaining plant life as in the cypress tree. Cypress trees have a reputation of
being able to sustain being submerged in water and not dying from it. This is most stems from the
fact that the cypress tree grows with its roots and part of its base

Ammonium Cyanate Synthesis
This chemical reaction was discovered in 1828 by Friedrich Wohler in an attempt to synthesize
ammonium cyanate. It is considered the starting point of modern organic chemistry. Wohler wanted
to prove, contrary to scientific thinking of the time, that a product of the living processes of
animals could be made in the laboratory from inorganic materials. The synthesis was almost an
accident, as Wohler had been trying to make another compound, ammonium cyanate, to continue a
study of cyanates he had been working on for the previous few years. When he added silver
cyanate to ammonium chloride solution he obtained a white crystalline material, which proved
identical to urea obtained from urine. His investigation was questioned by the theory of the
vitalism. Vitalist chemists predicted that organic materials could not be synthesized from inorganic
components His discovery was the beginning of the process of preparing organic compounds from
inorganic substances. It is used on an industrial scale for the manufacture of fertilizers,
pharmaceuticals and resins. For example, urea is one of the precursors to the various barbiturates,
which are widely used as sedatives and sleeping pills. Urea is also used in the production of
urethanes, which are then... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

up proteins. These amino acids are metabolized and converted in the liver to ammonia, CO2, water

discovery of Friedrich Wohler in 1828 was very important, as this made urea the first organic
compound to be synthesized from wholly inorganic starting materials. Wohler wrote triumphantly to
Berzelius: I must tell you that I can make urea without the use of kidneys, either man or dog.

Pcp Research Papers
Angel dust, PeaCe pills, super grass, and zoom are all street names for Phencyclidine, or PCP
for short. If PCP is mixed with marijuana, it is known as dust blunt, happy sticks, or dippers. If
PCP is mixed with ecstasy, or also known as MDMA, then it is called elephant flipping or
Pikachu. Only the history of PCP can tell us where some of these exotic names for this drugcame
from. PCP was originally developed as an anesthetic for human in the 1950 s and eventually
made its way to become a tranquilizer in veterinarian medicine (Rudgley, 1998. Karch, 1998).
Eventually in 1965, the legal use of this drug was ended due to severe side effects to the user.
Despite the fact that PCP became illegal, Clandestine laboratories manufactured and sold this
drug in a pill form, which gave way to one of its strange name known as the PeaCe Pill (Karch,
1998). A clandestine laboratory is an illegally run operation usually by gangs to manufacture
illegal drugs. By 1978 the drug became widely popular due to these illegal laboratories and... Show

Human Trafficking Is A Crime Against Humanity
I was brought here a few years ago, I lived in the streets at that time. A man took me to Daulatdia,
the biggest brothel in Bangladesh. He sold me to the owners, who kept me in a room and gave
me drugs. Then, a man suddenly came in and started taking off my clothes. I was so scared, I
didn t understand what was happening (Halima, 17). Halima was brought into the world of sex
trafficking as a child and now lives in a brothel in central Jessore, the last town before the border
into India from Bangladesh. Human traffickingis a crime against humanity and although all forms of
slaverywere completely abolished in 1981, for the last 35 years on average 800,000 to 4 million
people are exploited annually (CNN.com). This phenomenon affects every country whether it be
place of origin, transit or destination; and it is more prominent in developing countries and eastern
Asia. The United Nations Refugee Agency claims that Bangladeshis made up 40 to 60 percent of
the migrant traffic in 2015. Human trafficking in Bangladesh exploits men, women and children
into forced sexual acts and labor and keeps victims in captivity. Human trafficking violates basic
human rightssuch as the right to freedom, equality, security, health and most importantly protection
from slavery or servitude. The absence of these basic human rights leads to anguish, a lost sense of
security and a loss of identity which alters the quality of life for an individual. To minimize

The Pros And Cons Of Counselling
Counselling is a form of conversational therapy to help individuals with psychosocial difficulties
that are unlikely to benefit from prescribed medication (Changing opinion on value of
counselling, 2001). Counselling occurs between a trained professional known as a counsellor
and an individual in distress, which is the client (Sibbald B et al, 1996). Counselling is a method
of identifying practical solutions to assist to help resolve an individual s problem. During the
counselling session, the client speaks about his or her inner emotions, thoughts and feelings
(Corey G, 1995). Counsellors play various roles and use various styles, but what they have in
common is an intention to let the client speak more, while they speak less and listen more.
Thereby, a counsellor s first task is to determine what the issues are for the client and how the client
tends to view them (Lord W, 1993). The client may not be in an agreement with the current situation

Long And Short Term Effects Of Caffeine
Caffeine is the most widely consumed drug in the world (Harland 2000). This naturally occurring
substance found in more than 60 plants is ingested mainly through coffee and tea (Harland 2000;

Screen s Influence On American Culture
American Culture and the Screen s Influence
During the 1920s, movies grew in popularity in the United States due to their affordability and
availability. This led to a general curiosity about the actors lives themselves and gave Hollywood a
harsh reputation due to all of the scandals that occurred. In the 1950s, movies declined in their
popularity and the American public turned their attention toward television. As a result, television
became an American staple and TV shows were more convenient than movies, seeing as they could
be watched without leaving the house. Now Americans can watch both movies and TV shows at
home via DVDs, and are still interested in the personal affairs of the actors and actresses involved.

During the 1920s, the general public associated Hollywood with immorality. There were scandals
like William Desmond Taylor s and Virginia Rappe s murders. Although the two cases were not
related, many people correlated the two and other crimes within the industry. Despite this, many
Americans found themselves enraptured by the lives the actors led, the more dangerous, the more
interesting. Charlie Chaplin, a comedic actor and director, was stopped on the street constantly by
rabid fans begging for autographs. Now, most actors have or will have these issues once they
reach a certain height of fame. Charlie Chaplin was also one of the many actors accused of
being a communist during the Second Red Scare. Actors were publicized so frequently and
tended to be more liberal than the average person, so they made easy targets for the CIA during
this period. Some of the trials could be watched on TV, which also led to Americans questioning
their favorite actors political beliefs in order to be more like them, or just out of general curiosity.
Actors deaths were also seen as American tragedies. James Dean died in 1956 and Americans took
it very personally, calling him a personification of alienated American youth. He represented how
teenager s values differed from their parents throughout the 1950s but did not necessarily shape an
entire generation

The Issue Of Income Inequality Essay
Income inequality has slowly become an issue gaining momentum over the last thirty five years,
did we see it coming, I think so. It has always been an issues, only after decades of misleading
political leadership spanning decades are people finally fed up of being misled and lied to. The
current election for the next president has brought about a voice of the American people to
demand a change within our three failing political systems that govern America. Only this change,
I believe is going to bring a country to its knees, the wealth holders are not, going to just step
aside and willing unlock the scales of wealth that to encumber its poor, they are going to dig in and
hold fast to what they have stolen and hoarded since the time of slavery. Broken at the foundation
Congress failed in its obligation to keep a close watch on the small increasing hikes in taxation, that
repeatedly brought sanctions on the poor, that created a false redistribution of wealth in America,
for the last three decades income disparity has reach an all time high for selective groups of
Americans. The government influenced income inequality and growth by shifting support to
ambiguous government supported programs, that benefitted a selective groups of Americans by
lessening their taxation rate, while snowballing the tax imposed on the poorest Americans. The
riches 1 10% have accumulated an increase in wealth approximately 7.5 times over the normal
working household in the US. The article

This feeling in my nose tickles throughout. I let out a loud sneeze. I would be lying to you if I

I stayed on the mound even when there were three outs. I belonged to both sides. At this point

through his baseball cap squinting. He always said the same line, Janie, you want me to give this a

I brushed him off and continued doing what I was there for. I felt if I would walk away then it
would be a book missing a couple chapters. After the game was finished, I stood at the first base
line and watched the losing team doing laps. This concept of running because you lost always
made me think. I tried to incorporate this into everyday life. If you failed a game of red rover or
you did poorly on a test, would this be an incentive to do better. Could you really look at this as
something more then a punishment? Running your sins away. Maybe this view on life is closer
to me then I think. In the Jewish religion we have a day of repentment, Yom Kippur, which
occurs once a year. This holiday gives you a clean slate for all the mistakes you ve made but
maybe on an everyday stand you need to make sacrifices to yourself to have this pure slate once

The Conscious Mind Analysis
Throughout the opening examples presented in Miller s essay, the conscious mind is typically
observed inadvertently, usually as a byproduct of attempting socioeconomic and political gains and
typically through some form of pseudoscience as its medium. However, as the essay progresses and
the time frame the examples take place within advances the conscious mindbegins to be observed
both intentionally and in ways more closely resembling the principles of modern science. For
instance, Braid s investigations of hypnotic phenomena failed to thoroughly recognize the role of
consciousnessin the results of his experimentation. Rather, the concept of such a role, the condition
of the patient s nervous system, (14), in the causing of the hypnotic... Show more content on

Mesmer s work was severely clouded by his subjective beliefs, which make his studies more of
exercises in self indulgence than scientific process. Much of the same can be observed for the
works of Elliotson, Baron Dupotet and Braid, as they also succumbed to desire for personal gain
from their work building and maintaining popular private practices despite their scientific
faults, with Elliotson specifically being described as enjoying a prosperous professional life
with a wide circle of admiring and affectionate friends, (12). It should be noted, though, that their
respective work did contribute as portions of a base for future scientists to work from. Their
successors, the likes of Carpenter, Laycock and Hall, were able to find pieces of the work that
could be investigated such as the state of individuals while experiencing a trance and develop
those aspects into more scientific queries. Thus the evolution of the study of consciousness can
be observed in the essay. The development over time of theories of consciousness is similar to the
development of theoretically accepted models of the atom. From Dalton s Billiard Ball model, to
Rutherford s nucleus as a result of his gold foil experiments, to Schrödinger s electron cloud
model and beyond, several different scientists built upon each others work to develop the models

The Consequences Of Prison Recidivism
Improving Prison Reentry and Reducing Recidivism
Recidivism is a social problem that continues year after year. The National Institute of Justice
claims that this is one of the most fundamental concepts in criminal justice. They also provide
some statistic. Within three years of release, about two thirds (67.8 percent) of released prisoners
were rearrested. Within five years of release, about three quarters (76.6 percent) of released
prisoners were rearrested. Of those prisoners who were rearrested, more than half (56.7 percent)
were arrested by the end of the first year. Recidivism is the act of an individual continuing a bad
behavior after they have experienced negative consequences or repercussion from that behavior. In

This title alone may cause individuals to be over looked for jobs they are qualified for. To help
solve this problem he suggests something called Second Chance Legislation. Based on the nature
of the crime, evidence supports that if an individual has not reoffended or recommitted a crime,
enough time has passed for an individual to learn from there mistake and if they have not commit
a crime will not due so. Heroux suggests expunging their criminal record as if it never happened at
all. There are other things to consider when discussing recidivism. Yes, it s important to note how
the issue can be solved, but it s also important to note why it is happening so often.

Fiestas are best in the Philippines because people has the sense unity and it reflects their beliefs.
Filipinos love fiestas. Here in our country, Philippines, we can witness different festivals in each
and every corner of our region. However, even Fiestas look as if our own, these have originally
come from Spaniards. When Spanish missionaries entered the Philippines during the mid 1500s,
they found that the fiesta was a convenient tool to help teach Filipinos the Roman Catholic faith.
That is why, in the Philippines and many other former Spanish colonies, the Spanish word fiesta is
used to denote a communal religious feast to honor a patron saint (Wikipedia, n.d). The Philippines

The s The Egg And The Sperm
The Construction and Use of Nature for Authority One common perception of nature is that it is
something raw, untouched by human civilization. This point of view suggests that humans are
completely separated by nature and that our cultures and technologies are in some way
unnatural. However, I believe that not only are we a part of nature, but our cultures are also
deeply entwined with how we view nature. In this paper, I will review Emily Martin s The Egg
and the Sperm: How Science Has Constructed a Romance Based on Stereotypical Male Female
Roles as well as Michael Pollen s Why Natural Doesn t Mean Anything Anymore in order to
examine how nature, culture, and power relate with each other. Martin asserts that gender
stereotypes affect biologists description of the natural world, particularly in the human reproduction
process. Pollen makes a case that nature in fact lacks any meaning yet is often used as strong
rhetoric. I argue that nature is constructed through cultural values and is used for rhetorical
purposes, which shows that people manipulate facts in order to gain authority. Martin investigates
how cultural stereotypes of the two sexes are subtly incorporated into descriptions of the egg and
sperm in scientific papers. She expresses that giving stereotypical roles to the egg and sperm has the
power to naturalize our social conventions about gender (501). By associating the egg with feminine
traits and the sperm with masculine traits, scientists make these

Violence, Power, and Goals in the Hebrew Bible and The...
Violence is a means to an end. Violence is not something most humans resort to for enjoyment.
Violence is, however, the right thing to be done in certain situations. With violence, comes great
power. Power and violence walk together, hand in hand. When violence is exhibited, the power of
the individual is shown to those around him. In both the Hebrew Bible and The Iliad, violence is
depicted as a mode to reach goals. The reason for this is that violence allows an individual or a
deity to flaunt their powers, while they simultaneously achieve their personal and communal
ambitions. Just like how mortals have their own goals, deities also have an agenda. God, in the
Hebrew Bible, has only two goals: to have humans obey Him blindly and to... Show more content

Sacrifices are, in nature, very violent. Innocent blood is spilled to please the vengeful God. In
Exodus 12, the Lord struck down all the first born in the land of Egypt, from the first born of
Pharaoh who sat on the throne the first born of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the
first born of the cattle (Exodus 12:29). God did all that just because the Pharaoh stubbornly
refused to let the Israelites leave his country. The immense sacrifice of the first borns of man
and beast was an act of violence that led the exodus of the Israelites. The mass murder of the
Egyptian people and livestock also proves to the Pharaoh the great power of God, a power that
would have remained unseen if not for the plagues and the executions. For after the Pharaoh
witnessed the death of at least one man or one beast in each Egyptian s household, he said, Up,
depart from among my people...Go, worship the Lord as you said (Exodus 12:31). With this
final act of violence, God helped reach the Israelites communal goal: to leave the oppressive
Egypt and to enter the liberal Promise Land of Canaan. Because humans were created in God s
image, it makes perfect sense that humans will use violence as a way to achieve their own goals,
just like what God does. In I Samuel, David had one goal during the Goliath episode: to let this
whole assembly (the soldiers) know that the Lord can give victory without sword or spear. For

Organized Crime In The 1800s
Organized crime has been present in the history of the United States and can be traced back to
the streets of the early 1800 s. Organized crime occurs when a group of people congregate

groups have evolved over time from small rackets to grand organizations like the Italian Mafia.
Crime particularly began to become prominent in urban areas during the prohibition. Organized

The Complexity Of John Wayne In Film
John Wayne (1907 1979), an iconic American actor, director, and producer, known for playing
heroes in westerns on the big screen for fifty years. He won an Academy Award for True Grit
(1969) and is consider one of the top leading actors during Hollywood s classic period. In Red
River, Wayne stars in the unusual role of Thomas Dunson, who borders on good and bad tendencies
throughout the film. Wayne, often typecast, is given a tortured, conflicted character to play (Ebert
392), and does remarkably well portraying someone with questionable values. Wayne is sometimes
considered more of a natural force than an actor, but here his understated acting is right on the
money; the critic Joseph McBride says that John Ford, who had directed Wayne many times, saw
Red River and told Hawks, I never knew the big son of a bitch could act (Ebert 393). Some of
Wayne s best films include Stagecoach (1939), Angel and the Badman (1947), She Wore a

Everyone has a passion in life. Whether it s gardening, teaching, designing clothes, or whatever
else it may be, everybody lives for something. For Roy Hobbs in Bernard Malamud s The Natural,
his passion is baseball. Roy lives, breathes, and loves baseball with all of his heart, mind, and soul.
Roy, wants more than anything to be the greatest baseballplayer to ever play. The problem with this

Years ago, during a rough patch in life, I started seeing a behavioral psychologist to deal with some
anxiety issues and insomnia. Part of his sessions often consisted of a guided meditation, where he
would speak to me in gentle tones while I lay on the sofa, breathing deeply. The meditations
were probably a good 20 minutes or so, and frankly, I wondered if perhaps these sessions were
just a way for my therapist to get a break from listening to my life nonsense, but I found them very
relaxing and left afterwards feeling calm and refreshed, two feelings that didn t come naturally to
me.
After one session, my therapist complimented me on my breathing. He noted that I could slow
my breath down and take very long, deep breaths that helped me reach a different state. Higher
consciousness? Maybe. Calm and relaxed? Definitely, at least during and for a bit after the
meditation. He asked if I had learned this somewhere. I told him about the years I had spent taking
Kundalini Yoga from a prominent LA teacher. It wasn t daily

You go from sitting on the side lines watching, from finally getting to know what it is like to

Tournament sparring is much more competitive. It is where you finally put your training to the

as well, such as states, or national. Some sparring tournaments allow full contact where knock out
is allowed. In a standard sparring match, you versus opponents with the same rank and usually
people within the same age range. Judges stand in the four corners of the rings, and when
someone makes contact on another person without being blocked, it is a point. In a sparring
match, the opponents might clash which means both strike each other at the same time, and no
points are counted. All points usually count as one, but if someone throws a successful and
controlled kick to the head with slight touch, it is two points. Three rounds will usually occur and
whoever has the most points by the end of the rounds will win. From there, the winners from each
round will continue to spar until there is one final winner. The winners will either get some sort or
trophy or medal for the place they come in. When you walk away from a tournament, you will
always learn some sort of lesson. It might be about what to do better next time, or how you should

Home explains it as, any harassment that occurs via the Internet (Hardcastle). Cyber bulling
messages can be communicated through text, e mails, instant messaging, web pages, blogs, chat
rooms, or any other information communication technologies. For example, Michigan s assistant
attorney general, who is a grown adult, has been harassing the University of Michigan s openly gay
student body president. Andrew Shirvell, assistant Michigan attorney general, created a blog in
April of 2010 targeting Chris Armstrong, University of Michigan s student body president. On this
blog he has posted many rude, untrue, and unnecessary comments towards Chris Armstrong, along
with distorted pictures. According to the article, Assistant Michigan AG targets openly gay college

Fenian Raids and the Liberation of Ireland
The Fenians sought to outflank the British Coast Guards stationed in Canada with guerilla
warfare. Their plan was to cause a bloody rebellion until news that the treatment of the Irish has
improved or until the patience of England is quite worn out. The lyrics ..we re going to fight for
Ireland.... And we ll go and capture, for we ve got nothing else to do exemplifies the Fenians
rentlesslesnes and the pride they took in trying to liberate Ireland.
Copies of the proclamation of General T. W. Sweeny to the People of British America had been
distributed around Fenian camps. In his proclamation, General Sweeny makes it evident that he
opposes British rule in Ireland. He quickly moves forward and states that the people of Ireland are
taking action against their oppressors, the British. Sweeny then informs the British Americans that
while the Irish are at war with the British power in England, they have no quarrel with the people
in the British Provinces of Canada. In fact, he points out that the Irish wish to have nothing more
than friendly relations with the British Americans. Sweeny asserts that the Irish are not seeking to
invade the privileges of the British Americans but are seeking to invade those of the power of
England. He again points out that the Irish are not in Canada as murderers, robbers, nor plunderers,
but are there as the Irish Army of Liberation, the friends of liberty against despotism, of democracy
against aristocracy, and of the people against their

Shang Bronze Age
Shang was the first dynasty in ancient China. The workers became highly skilled in pottery,
weaving, tool making, and other crafts and trades (McLenighan 18). They were the first to invent
bronze. They mixed tin and copper together, heated it, then poured it carefully and quickly into
molds before it dried (Chun). Weapons and tools were made better with bronze (McLenighan 18).
This dynasty was known as the bronze age because bronze was so important to them (Chun). The
Shang used shells for money. The inventions of the chariots and wheeled carts increased wealth
and trade (McLenighan 18). They made things to use in ceremonies to honor their ancestors like
cooking pots, tools, and bells. The bells were used to calm the spirit. The biggest celebration was

Ancient Chinese writing included pictographs, characters representing objects and ideographs.
These symbols represent words, not letters (Spielvogel 283). Calligraphy was China s most
important art. It made beautiful pictures. Block printing was used to make seals for documents
(Chun). Ancient Chinese art was made on bronze. These included vases, sculptures, cups,
daggers, and urns. Clothes were made with colorful silk which was woven by artisans (Spielvogel
283). Yellow and red clothes were a symbol of beauty and power (Chun). Statues were carved from
jade and ivory. Dishes were made from kaolin, a white clay (Spielvogel 283).
Ancient Chinese people fished in the many rivers, but later farming became very important to
them. They farmed along three rivers, the Huang He, Chang Jiang, and the Yangtze river where the
soil was very rich. (Lambert 16). Farmers worked for the aristocrats growing wheat and millet in
the north, and rice in the south (Lambert 14, Spielvogel 282). Everything was done by hand
including the planting and irrigation. The farmers also raised mule, ox, pigs, chicken, sheep, and
cattle (Lambert

Pros Of Kneeling During The Anthem
Pro of Kneeling During the Anthem
In this paper I will be talking about the players in the NFL that have been kneeling for the
anthem. One of the players I will be referring to a lot is Colin Kaepernick. He is the one that
started the kneeling and everybody else followed. I am in pro of players kneeling for the national
anthem. I unlike a lot of people don`t feel like he is disrespecting the American flag or national
anthem.
On August 14 and 20 of 2016 Colin Kaepernick made headlines by sitting on the bench during the
49ers first two regular season games. He wasn`t in uniform so he wasn`t expected to play in those
games anyways. There was no grand unveiling of Kaepernick s sitting protest. Instead, on August

Situations such as the Michael Brown one, Freddie gray one and Tamir rice are all reasons NFL
players such as Colin Kaepernick have been kneeling. The Alton Sterling incident is on camera
which is heartbreaking to even think about. Police kill black African Americans and then try to
stand behind self defense and the law. That isn`t right that families especially moms have to
bury their son and live with not never ever seeing their son again. A lot of people say it`s
disrespecting the flag which is wrong. African Americans go through things other races could
never. I am in pro of players kneeling because of the injustice inequality and the lack of respect
we simply just don`t get. Kneeling brought attention to all of the issues that America is going
through also. Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks didn`t do things like they did for the world to
be at the place it is now. One of the first amendments is freedom of speech and to peacefully
assemble. People like white

Relationship Between William And Dorothy Wordsworth
William and Dorothy Wordsworths literary relationship has many different aspects to it but
Dorothy was never as famous as her brother. By using feminist theory we can truly understand their
relationship between the brother and sister and the linking in their writings. By looking at William
s poem I wandered lonely as a cloudwhich is also known as The daffodils and Dorothy s Grasmere
Journal a deep connection is also shown. Both William and his sister Dorothy were great writers,
but William seemed to have out shone his sister. By using feminist theory one might see exactly
why William received more fame than his sister. One might also see why William got this fame by
using historical criticism. By using these two particular schools of... Show more content on

It is clear that the two were in the field that day and they both saw very similar things which the
also interpreted very similarly. When we compare William s poem and Dorothy s journal we
can see both comparisons and contrasts between the texts. The different comparisons we see
may help us understand why Dorothy did not achieve such fame as her brother had. Dorothy s
description of the text is very natural as she is simply describing what she saw and how she saw
it then and there. When she first saw the daffodils she simply says When we were in the woods
beyond Gowbarrow park we saw a few daffodils close to the water side. We fancied that the lake
had floated the seeds ashore and that the little colony had so sprung up. (Journals of Dorothy
Wordsworth: The Alfoxden Journal 1798, The Grasmere Journals 1800 1803). When William
describes the field full of Daffodils he uses a great deal of description to emphasis the beauty of
the flowers and to make it clear about how he felt. In contrast to Dorothy s initial reaction to the
daffodils William says When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the
lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. (William Wordsworth, I wandered
lonely as a cloud , 1807). It is clear that that William and Dorothy had very different writing
techniques. Dorothy has a plain and simple flow to her writings whereas William has a dramatic
and descriptive style. This is a clear contrast between the two

Tao-Te Ching Morality
The idea of Taoism is expanded more through Stephen Mitchell s explanatory introduction of the
Tao Te Ching. Mitchell translates that the teaching of the Tao Te Ching is moral in the deepest
sense and that it is unencumbered by any concept of sin seeming to not reject that evil is alive
but instead seeing it as an a state of self absorption which is in disharmony with the universal
process (ix). This idea is expressing how being concerned with evil behavior should not be a
priority and is not looked at when dealing with Taoism and its teachings. Taoism is in no concern
of moral being and does not look at any type of higher power or code saying that what they are
doing is wrong. There is a strong advocacy and support to throw away morality and justice...
holiness and wisdom... industry and profit and then that is when everything will settle in place and
people will do the right thing (19).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each verse of the classic text fit together seamlessly and seem to all relate back to one and other
in the end. Even though some may see morality as distinguishing between either good or bad, the
Tao Ching Te is a deeper sense of morality because it subtracts evil. The Tao Te Chingfocuses on
two things, Tao, which is The Way of The Universe , and Te, The Virtue . In reference to Te, the
virtue aspect of it has to do with one not seeking to do good but knowing that there is good within
him. Mitchell translates The Master doesn t try to be powerful; thus he is truly powerful. The
ordinary man keeps reaching for power; thus he never has enough (38). This is a key component in
the virtue aspect of things how Stephen Mitchell introduced the text, stating its true depth in
morality. The text teaches that sin should not be at the forefront of ones mind in order to truly be

Symbolism In Avatar
In James Cameron s film, Avatar, the plot begins by introducing the protagonist Jake Sully. Jake, a
paraplegic marine, is sought out to join the Avatar Program, a scientific journey through space to
discover an unknown world and its people. Because its atmosphere is poisonous to humans, the
scientists who are a part of the project have created genetically engineered human Na vi bodies,
called Avatars, that they use to explore the planet of Pandora. Jake Sully and his team end up
overstepping the bounds and using the information gained from the Na vi against them in an
attempt to destroy their home and take the precious materials that lay beneath the surface (IMDB).
Avatarby James Cameronsymbolizes European s exploitation of Native American lands by
portraying the aggressive exploration of a new world. Cameron emphasizes the symbolism by
comparing the new planet of Pandora to the new world of North America and by depicting a native
culture extremely similar to Native American Indians. He even goes as far as creating a modern
day Pocahontas inspired plot to further suggest a connection to European s conquest.
Cameron s film shows humans leaving earth to inhabit the newly discovered moon, Pandora. The
newcomers quickly grow meaningful connections to the alien natives of Pandora, the Na vi, while
they covertly plot for an aggressive exploitation of the moon s resources. This situation is
thoroughly representative of early European s encounters with Native Americans. The

Humans Need to Belong
Belonging is at the core of the human condition. A significant individual can nurture or prevent a
sense of belonging in individuals, groups or communities and is a prevalent concept in the
autobiographies Romulus, My Father by Raimond Gaita and I know why the caged bird sings by
Maya Angelou, a story about growing up African American in 1930s. These texts explore how a
mentoring figure, an individual s insecurities and how confidence and self esteem in a community
can instil or prohibit a sense of belonging.
An individual s insecurities can prevent a sense of belonging in a community is an idea
demonstrated in Romulus, My Father through Christine. Social pressures of gender roles and the
barrenness feed an insecurity that is artificially relieved by longing for company and seducing men
to gain a sense of power and connection. However it further alienates herself My mother had other
lovers and he was tormented by jealousy... my mother and he quarrelled over her infidelities. The
use of vivid language tormented and quarrelled, highlight how her actions, result of her insecurities,
strain the relationship between her and Mitru. This also serves to characterise Christine in the early
chapters, as the villain and due to the autobiographical nature of this text, reflects Raimond s
disconnect to his mother. Therefore Christine and her insecurities prevent a sense of belonging
between her, Mitru and Raimond.
Similarly in I know why the caged bird sings Maya s

Zindal Kordan Analysis
Nineteen year old Zindal Kordan stood at the window on the 409th floor of the unfinished Pax
City Capitol Building and surveyed the rebuilding efforts going on far below. Over three weeks
ago, he killed Henry Cavanaugh, the leader of the Naturalist Rebellion that had caused this
bloody civil war Zin had fought in for almost a year now, on this alien planet so far from Earth
where Zindal had grown up, but what he had come to call home. He hoped his actions, as brazen
and dirty as they were, would come to fruition, but he knew how dangerous it was to hope. After

hand felt like an IV. Io stepped into view, motionless in the flutter of movements around Zindal.
When Zindal met his eyes, he was surprised to find sorrow there, actual sorrow. He said nothing.
The group of people lifted Zin from the table and lowered him into a narrow container. They
pulled a door over the top of it was it a coffin? Were they burying him alive? Panic burned in his
stomach but light still made its way to his unresponsive eyes. Again, he tried to move, and again,
he failed. Something started to churn beneath him. The temperature dropped until he could see
his breath. A thick, freezing liquid pumped out of the holes in the walls surrounding him. It
inched higher, sending goosebumps down his arms. He was going to drown. The realization
sprung tears from his eyes, and again, he looked for Io. The liquid covered his legs and chest,
inched its way up to his ears, seeped into his mouth and nose. He held his breath for as long as he
could, but soon, he was forced to inhale. To his surprise and relief, he could

The Findings At The 21st Century A Study Created By Dr....
The Findings Partners in the 21st Century is a study created by Dr. Ron Rogge, who is a
relationship expert psychologist. He does plenty of research on individual factors, health factors
/behaviors, and couples behavior (Rogge). The overall concept of this study was to explain what
individuals seek for in their relationships with another person. The study was completed online
that consisted of questions that ranged from personality questions that included one s gender,
personality background, romantic and sexual partners, drug and alcohol use, and sexually
transmitted infections, etc. (Rogge). However, the key part of the survey was to explain whether
an individual is single or in a relationship. For instance, if someone was single, in a relationship,
engaged, or married etc. Based on answering that question, the upcoming questions would have
changed to other directions dependent on the answers. The importance of answering the
questions correctly played a role in the follow up questions because it allows the user doing the
study to pick what the user is looking for. For example, I selected I am single and questions
indicated if I use geo social apps to meet people. When someone selected single, the survey began
to dive into what the person wanted in a relationship. The questions contained many different
variations, including if one uses the survey to satisfy their sexual curiosity, experience new people,
have nothing better to do, or it s exciting. However, another

Ensemble Vagabond s The Rite Of Spring
Ensemble Vagabond s debut performance of The Rite of Spring changed the history of Igor
Stravinsky s outrageous ballet. Arranged for Winds and Piano, Peter Facer has taken this
momentous piece to an entirely new level. With the Callaway Music Auditorium at maximum
capacity, Vagabond strode confidently onstage to roaring applause to give the performance of a
lifetime. Adam Mikulicz s bassoon solo to open the piece captured the audience while Emily
Clements added colour and ornamentation with both the flute and piccolo. Jodie Upton on clarinet
and Peter Facer on the oboe encompassed style, texture and timbre which broadened the sound of
this small ensemble. Conducting on the side, Facer kept the ensemble together in demanding
sections. Julia Brooke with her angelic horn sounded like an entire brass section packed into one

helped the ensemble stay together. They moved and played together as one organism. Thus,
short notes were played identically by every person, creating sections of order in a piece of
pandemonium. As the piece ended, the performers smiled. Having put 7 years of work into this
score, they stood proudly and bowed. The audience erupted in applause. The Rite of Spring was

Essay On The American Empire
While learning more and more about the American empire, I have come to a few conclusions, that
when the American empire makes a move it is carefully thought out and it so perfectly always ends
up the way they want. No matter the outcome it will always work out in their favor if they have
military force and control in business affairs. Also, the American empire does the same things
repeatedly.
The United states tend to get involved in global affairs. Becoming almost a Hero for foreign
counties but the similarities between all the cases the United States global affairs they gain
something out of the deal. if we think about it, the United States gains control of small countries

These two major changes alone are enough to make the Cubans want their own independent
because the smothering would have just been too much. I believe annexing Cuba would have been
better for America but not so great for the Cuban people. If the American empire already made
deals and got their agreements met they should have completely pulled out of Cuba to let the
Cuba people do as they wish. If the American empire would have done that Cuba would have had
nothing negative to say about America. They would be required to go to war with Spain. per
president Theodore Roosevelt this is a natural sugar and tobacco country and as we must, in any
case, control its destinies, and will probably soon own it. America was draining Cuba. However,
if America would have annexed Cuba, the Cuban people would have a lot of help with American
education, public health and jobs. I believe America could have made up their minds faster. If
America wanted to help Cuba, they could have done things for the Cubans that they need help
with. Not just build a base and close trade with other countries then leave and do nothing for the
people of Cuba. It s like

This would create and elastic effect on the corn market because the huge demand for corn oil
will remain the same but with the discovery corn for energy it has made it a hot commodity and
very profitable amongst farmers therefore corn oil would take a back seat for now until other
resources can be used to produce energy. These farmers are going to slow down their
productions of corn for corn oil and increase the production of corn for energy because it is the
more profitable thing to do and its makes perfect business sense. Now the demand for the corn
oil remains the same, but the productions for it has slowed greatly if not stopped, this means that
farmers and corn producers will need to raise the price of corn for corn products so they will be
able to stay on the market longer and have a longer shelf life until another year or harvest comes
around.

Cretaceous Time Period Research Paper
Cretaceous Period
Everyone knows about the dinosaurs and how they went extinct. This was one of the major
events that took place in the Cretaceous Time Period. The Cretaceous Period was the longest and
last of three time periods in the Mesozoic Era. This time period lasted from about 144 million
years ago until about million years ago (about 79 million years), and over that 79 million years the
earth changed dramatically. Way back in the Cretaceousall of earth s land was together in one big
super continent we call Pangea. The average temperature was warmer throughout earth then in

Approximately 65.5 million years ago most of the planet s land animals and many of the animals
in the seas went extinct. As far as we know this was caused by a massive asteroid colliding with
earth in what is now the Chicxulub crater in the Yucatan peninsula. The collision is thought to have
caused tsunamis and clouds of hot dust were sent into the atmosphere and probably started huge
wild fires. Many of the animals that survived all of that would later die when the sun was blocked
out for months or possibly years causing temperatures to drop and plants to die.
I would not like to have lived in the Cretaceous Period. For one thing pretty much all of the
planet s land area was in a much hotter climate than we live in which I don t think I would like.
Another reason is the fact that the land and plants were different in a way that may have been
interesting to see but not so great to live in. And of course the obvious reason that there were still
dinosaurs which would probably be pretty dangerous and make life

  • 2. Cinderella And Little Mermaid Analysis While researching a topic for this paper I recalled all of the fairy tales and concepts we discussed in class and decided to compare the Grimm Brother s Cinderella and Andersen s Little Mermaid. I decided to research these two fairy tales because they were the two main stories that I read and watched as a child, and since the original stories are completely different than what I have grown up with. The two stories start out in similar ways, a young girl longing to venture somewhere and experience what is unfamiliar to them; however, these stories end up going in two completely different directions. I would like to focus on the two main characters compare by curiosity and the actions they took in order to achieve their dreams. In order... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As I stated before, once the Little Mermaid reaches the top of the water, she begins to wonder more and more, going further than any of her sisters. She also begins to dream of a life on land and is curious about what a life with the prince on shore would be like. This is unlike Cinderella because she goes to the festival night after night to try and conform to society, Andersen never wrote that Cinderella dreamt of a life with the prince. The only characters in Cinderella that dreamt of a life of fame and fortune were the stepsisters, who wanted to marry the prince, and the stepmother, who wanted one of her biological daughters to marry the prince. Next, I would like to compare is the course of action Cinderella and the Little Mermaid took in order to achieve all of their dreams. While Cinderella was forbidden by her stepmother to take part in the festivities after completing a list of tedious chores she only goal to be like everyone else and dance at the festival. This would allow her to transform from an almost slave like daughter to a normal member of society. Cinderella wanted to better the situation she was in, which is a goal that everyone has; however, because she was forbidden to attend and since she had no clothes she cried on her mother s grave. To our surprise, the tree, that she planted on her mother s grave, was magic and gave her the proper clothes for her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Explained in the dissertation written by Gane, the Assyrian name of the bucket is banddudГ» which translates exactly to bucket , and the name for the cone is mulluli which translates to purifier. The bucket is said to contain holy water, so when the purifying cone is dipped into the bucket and then sprinkled atop the Sacred Tree, it leads to the conclusion that the apkallu figure is performing an act of purification for the land of Ashur. However, another interpretation of these items is that the shape of the cone also resembles that of the male flower of date palms, and is held in the right hand of the subject which symbolizes masculinity. The bucket could be interpreted as containing pollen, and thus when the cone is dipped into the bucket held in the feminine hand and sprinkled atop the Sacred Tree, it leads to the conclusion that the apkallu figure is performing an act of fertilization for the land of Ashur. Either way, the apkallu figure is performing some kind of ritual to secure the abundance of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. A Summary Of John Locke And Jean-Jacques Rousseau The Enlightenment period questioned traditional methods of educating children and introduced revolutionary new ways of thinking to bring about improvements in education and to actual allow students to enjoy learning. Before the Enlightenment, children were treated like small adults with no thought given to the development of very young children and once they were old enough to receive educationit consisted of forced memory work along with harsh discipline (Platz Arellano, 2011). The Enlightenment changed this way of thinking by questioning what we are like naturally like (human nature), vs how we are influence by society (Norris, 2017, slide 25). It brought about the belief in the possibility of improvement of all of humanity... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Locke left London to live in France and Holland because of health issues, he wrote letters to Edward and Mary Clark telling them his thoughts on how they should educate their son. These letters were later published in 1632 as Some Thoughts Concerning Education (Murphy, 2006 ). Locke s Some Thoughts Concerning Education criticizes the teaching methods of that time and suggests improvements but it also covers a wide range of other topics like how children should be dress, what they should eat, the importance of regularly going to the bathroom, and the need for physical activity, all of which goes towards making a sound mind in a sound body (Locke, 1692, sec.1). Locke (1692) states the importance of education when he writes, that of all the men we meet with, nine parts of ten are what they are, good or evil, useful or not, by their education (sec. 1). Although Locke s treatise on education was written for boys of the gentlemen class (Shouse, 1931. p. 25), it was implied that he was writing for the education of all children, including girls. Locke s educational theory emphasized nurture over nature because as Henson (2003) states, he introduced the idea of tabula rasa or blank slate, proposing that at birth the mind is a blank slate the only way to fill it is through having experiences, feeling these experiences, and reflecting on them (p.7). Locke believed in finding a virtuous tutor when children were young to lead them by good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Francis Scott Key s The Star-Spangled Banner The Star Spangled Banner was written by Francis Scott Key as he watched his fellow Americans stand strong in their darkest hour. For over twenty four hours Fort McHenry was bombarded by British Navy, but the American troops fought, and so did their families. The Americans rallied around the singular flag that stood high in the fort, and a flag that was a target for the British armada. They planned to destroy the flag to disrupt moral, but the Americans refused to let it fall. They used that singular flag as motivation, and motivation that eventually won them the battle. The flag still holds the same purpose today. To remember those who have fought, or are currently fighting in our armies. It also serves as a source of pride, motivation, and patriotism towards our country. Knowing what our flag means to our history and our country, we can t possibly keep letting our countries source of pride be disrespected by those attempting to promote their own cause. • 7. Presidency And The Media Essay Presidency: The Strategies of the Media Richard Elliot Neustadt, a profound political scientist and advisor to many presidents, has often argued over the years that presidential power is probably best understood as the power to persuade. Over the years, the presidency has evolved from what our Founder s had to endure and has now turned into an obsession with news media. The President of the United Statesis the most powerful being in our country with the ability to control what Americans can and cannot know for better or worse. The presidency and news media have a more complicated relationship than what others might say. There are times where the president is more than willing to cooperate with the news, but there is also an equal amount of time where the presidency and the press are at odds. In our country s lifetime of presidents, there have been numerous attempts and successions to control the flow of information by using the media in a strategic manner such as being able to... Egypt s relationship to the west was further exacerbated with the Suez Canal project in 1869, as Egypt obtained loans from Europe reaching 100 million pounds. Through these means, Egypt became incorporated within the European economic system. While France and England ultimately accepted Egyptian independence in 1922, Egypt was still completely rooted in and relied on Europe through the political, economic, and historic ties. Even after achieving independence, the King and Prime Minister installed were loyal to British powers. This brief history illustrates the difficulties Egypt faces in trying to embrace the Islamic union of religion and society amongst colonial and western intrusion. The once hailed western lifestyle was now criticized as responsible for the westernization and secularization of Muslim societies from its institutions, to values, to dress, music, and cinema. • 10. The Effects Of Violent Video Games On Children The question is why children are being affected by these games. Is it that the child are mimicking what they see or is it effecting the child s brain. At Indiana University, Dr. Vincent Matthews decided to create a study to watch brain patterns after playing violent video games. They performed three different tests to find out how these games impacted the brain. They picked out 28 students from campus to play either violent video games, first person shooter games, or non violent games. What they found was after a couple hours playing these games that those who play violent video games showed no brain activity in areas involving emotions, attention, and impulses. There is science behind violent video games and their negative effects on people. Researchers ran another test after the participants played the games. They held up cards with non violent words like run or walk, and they were in different colors. They also held up cards with violent words like hit or push which were also in different colors. Those who play violent video games were equal to the non violent video gameplayers in the original testing but when it came to the violent words, violent video gamers should no brain activity in the area of emotion like the non violent gamers. By 2050 it s estimated that the annual loss of fishing income due to coastal wetlanderosion will be around $550 million dollars of revenue. The wetlands are valuable in many ways. They provide fish for commercial fishing and eating. The wetlands also act as a sponge for floodwater during storms and heavy rains. • 12. Ammonium Cyanate Synthesis This chemical reaction was discovered in 1828 by Friedrich Wohler in an attempt to synthesize ammonium cyanate. It is considered the starting point of modern organic chemistry. Wohler wanted to prove, contrary to scientific thinking of the time, that a product of the living processes of animals could be made in the laboratory from inorganic materials. The synthesis was almost an accident, as Wohler had been trying to make another compound, ammonium cyanate, to continue a study of cyanates he had been working on for the previous few years. When he added silver cyanate to ammonium chloride solution he obtained a white crystalline material, which proved identical to urea obtained from urine. His investigation was questioned by the theory of the vitalism. Vitalist chemists predicted that organic materials could not be synthesized from inorganic components His discovery was the beginning of the process of preparing organic compounds from inorganic substances. It is used on an industrial scale for the manufacture of fertilizers, pharmaceuticals and resins. Much of the same can be observed for the works of Elliotson, Baron Dupotet and Braid, as they also succumbed to desire for personal gain from their work building and maintaining popular private practices despite their scientific faults, with Elliotson specifically being described as enjoying a prosperous professional life with a wide circle of admiring and affectionate friends, (12). It should be noted, though, that their respective work did contribute as portions of a base for future scientists to work from. Their successors, the likes of Carpenter, Laycock and Hall, were able to find pieces of the work that could be investigated such as the state of individuals while experiencing a trance and develop those aspects into more scientific queries. This point of view suggests that humans are completely separated by nature and that our cultures and technologies are in some way unnatural. However, I believe that not only are we a part of nature, but our cultures are also deeply entwined with how we view nature. In this paper, I will review Emily Martin s The Egg and the Sperm: How Science Has Constructed a Romance Based on Stereotypical Male Female Roles as well as Michael Pollen s Why Natural Doesn t Mean Anything Anymore in order to examine how nature, culture, and power relate with each other. Martin asserts that gender stereotypes affect biologists description of the natural world, particularly in the human reproduction process. Pollen makes a case that nature in fact lacks any meaning yet is often used as strong rhetoric. I argue that nature is constructed through cultural values and is used for rhetorical purposes, which shows that people manipulate facts in order to gain authority. Martin investigates how cultural stereotypes of the two sexes are subtly incorporated into descriptions of the egg and sperm in scientific papers. She expresses that giving stereotypical roles to the egg and sperm has the power to naturalize our social conventions about gender (501). Violence is, however, the right thing to be done in certain situations. With violence, comes great power. Power and violence walk together, hand in hand. When violence is exhibited, the power of the individual is shown to those around him. In both the Hebrew Bible and The Iliad, violence is depicted as a mode to reach goals. The reason for this is that violence allows an individual or a deity to flaunt their powers, while they simultaneously achieve their personal and communal ambitions. Just like how mortals have their own goals, deities also have an agenda. God, in the Hebrew Bible, has only two goals: to have humans obey Him blindly and to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sacrifices are, in nature, very violent. Innocent blood is spilled to please the vengeful God. In Exodus 12, the Lord struck down all the first born in the land of Egypt, from the first born of Pharaoh who sat on the throne the first born of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the first born of the cattle (Exodus 12:29). God did all that just because the Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let the Israelites leave his country. The immense sacrifice of the first borns of man and beast was an act of violence that led the exodus of the Israelites. The mass murder of the Egyptian people and livestock also proves to the Pharaoh the great power of God, a power that would have remained unseen if not for the plagues and the executions. For after the Pharaoh witnessed the death of at least one man or one beast in each Egyptian s household, he said, Up, depart from among my people...Go, worship the Lord as you said (Exodus 12:31). With this final act of violence, God helped reach the Israelites communal goal: to leave the oppressive Egypt and to enter the liberal Promise Land of Canaan. Because humans were created in God s image, it makes perfect sense that humans will use violence as a way to achieve their own goals, just like what God does. • 34. The Complexity Of John Wayne In Film John Wayne (1907 1979), an iconic American actor, director, and producer, known for playing heroes in westerns on the big screen for fifty years. He won an Academy Award for True Grit (1969) and is consider one of the top leading actors during Hollywood s classic period. In Red River, Wayne stars in the unusual role of Thomas Dunson, who borders on good and bad tendencies throughout the film. Wayne, often typecast, is given a tortured, conflicted character to play (Ebert 392), and does remarkably well portraying someone with questionable values. Wayne is sometimes considered more of a natural force than an actor, but here his understated acting is right on the money; the critic Joseph McBride says that John Ford, who had directed Wayne many times, saw Red River and told Hawks, I never knew the big son of a bitch could act (Ebert 393). Some of Wayne s best films include Stagecoach (1939), Angel and the Badman (1947), She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949), Sands of Iwo Jima (1949), The Searchers (1956), Rio Bravo (1959), The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962), and True Grit (1969). The change in appearance (much like Star Wars Anakin Skywalker transformation into Darth Vader) is more than just dark clothing, it symbolizes the lack of goodness and virtues now harden by pain and lost love, and a burden Dunson must bare. Part of his sessions often consisted of a guided meditation, where he would speak to me in gentle tones while I lay on the sofa, breathing deeply. The meditations were probably a good 20 minutes or so, and frankly, I wondered if perhaps these sessions were just a way for my therapist to get a break from listening to my life nonsense, but I found them very relaxing and left afterwards feeling calm and refreshed, two feelings that didn t come naturally to me. After one session, my therapist complimented me on my breathing. He noted that I could slow my breath down and take very long, deep breaths that helped me reach a different state. When we compare William s poem and Dorothy s journal we can see both comparisons and contrasts between the texts. The different comparisons we see may help us understand why Dorothy did not achieve such fame as her brother had. Dorothy s description of the text is very natural as she is simply describing what she saw and how she saw it then and there. When she first saw the daffodils she simply says When we were in the woods beyond Gowbarrow park we saw a few daffodils close to the water side. We fancied that the lake had floated the seeds ashore and that the little colony had so sprung up. (Journals of Dorothy Wordsworth: The Alfoxden Journal 1798, The Grasmere Journals 1800 1803). When William describes the field full of Daffodils he uses a great deal of description to emphasis the beauty of the flowers and to make it clear about how he felt. In contrast to Dorothy s initial reaction to the daffodils William says When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. Mitchell translates that the teaching of the Tao Te Ching is moral in the deepest sense and that it is unencumbered by any concept of sin seeming to not reject that evil is alive but instead seeing it as an a state of self absorption which is in disharmony with the universal process (ix). This idea is expressing how being concerned with evil behavior should not be a priority and is not looked at when dealing with Taoism and its teachings. Taoism is in no concern of moral being and does not look at any type of higher power or code saying that what they are doing is wrong. There is a strong advocacy and support to throw away morality and justice... holiness and wisdom... industry and profit and then that is when everything will settle in place and people will do the right thing (19).... Now the demand for the corn oil remains the same, but the productions for it has slowed greatly if not stopped, this means that farmers and corn producers will need to raise the price of corn for corn products so they will be able to stay on the market longer and have a longer shelf life until another year or harvest comes around. • 53. Cretaceous Time Period Research Paper Cretaceous Period Everyone knows about the dinosaurs and how they went extinct. This was one of the major events that took place in the Cretaceous Time Period. The Cretaceous Period was the longest and last of three time periods in the Mesozoic Era. This time period lasted from about 144 million years ago until about million years ago (about 79 million years), and over that 79 million years the earth changed dramatically. Way back in the Cretaceousall of earth s land was together in one big super continent we call Pangea. The average temperature was warmer throughout earth then in comparison to present day. The north and south poles were still colder than places along the equator even back then. But still, the earth was warmer than it is now with excessive rains in some places and little to no rain in deserts. Maybe the most notable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Approximately 65.5 million years ago most of the planet s land animals and many of the animals in the seas went extinct. As far as we know this was caused by a massive asteroid colliding with earth in what is now the Chicxulub crater in the Yucatan peninsula. The collision is thought to have caused tsunamis and clouds of hot dust were sent into the atmosphere and probably started huge wild fires. Many of the animals that survived all of that would later die when the sun was blocked out for months or possibly years causing temperatures to drop and plants to die. I would not like to have lived in the Cretaceous Period. For one thing pretty much all of the planet s land area was in a much hotter climate than we live in which I don t think I would like. Another reason is the fact that the land and plants were different in a way that may have been interesting to see but not so great to live in. And of course the obvious reason that there were still dinosaurs which would probably be pretty dangerous and make life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
