Family History Research Paper
When I enrolled in Columbia southern college to further my education, the enrollment counselor told
me I needed 6 credits of history. The first thought that popped into my mind was; I do not need to
learn anything else about history at this point in my life/career, I have learned all I needed to know
about history in grade school and high school . After multiple failed attempts at trying to convince my
counselor why I should not have to take history, I realizing that there was no way around taking this
course. As I began to read over the syllabus and the unit assignments, I began to have an open mind
and second thoughts about the course. I was intrigued by unit 1 scholarly activity; answer the
following question in your own words: Why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Understand our family heritage gives one a sense of pride. History teaches us about our language and
our roots. Knowing the history of your family can help prove a sense of identity because getting to
know yourself gives you the opportunity to understand new things about culture. This will result in
you realize who you really are. Learning the history of your people will form a connection to certain
customs, values, and beliefs. I have learned many stories of my family history from just talking to the
elderly within my family. Stories about their trials and tribulation of those previous generations show
me how far we came overall. I have passed on those same stories along to the generation under me
and emphasized how important it is for them to do the same. Understand your culture will open your
mind to learning to respect others cultures as well.
In conclusion, know your past has a lot to do with your present and future. All things that are
happening in society today, such as political, racial, and power, are all a reflection on our past. The
motivations, practices, and outcomes from the European quests of God, gold, and glory is a factor in
today s world. The Cultural history that is past from one generation to the next reflects

Aldo Leopold The Land Pyramid
In his essay titled The Land Ethic, Aldo Leopold argues that humans should extend ethical behaviors
to the natural environment or in other words, the land. The author points out that, thus far, humans
have only acted ethically towards one another. However, he believes that it is time for humans also to
start to treat the environment with the same respect and dignity that we have for the members of our
own species. The author states that he is aware that we cannot entirely prevent utilizing nature as a
resource and a commodity. Nonetheless, he concludes that humans should have the responsibility to
take care of the environment and to assure its continued existence.
Leopold does not believe that humans are the inferior species, the conquerors of the land as he puts it.
Instead, he argues, humans are just plain citizens who simply share the planet with millions of other
species and who are a part of an intricate and sophisticated system that makes life possible for all
living beings. Nonetheless, he believes that in order for people to realize this, and for them to
recognize nature as valuable and worth loving, they must be able to envision it as a tangible object. To
make this possible, Leopold creates the idea of The Land Pyramid, whose purpose is to create a
mental image of the environment as a complex biotic mechanism. The food pyramid is comprised of
many layers. The bottom layer is the widest because it represents the species that are most abundant

Speech On Endangered Elephants

Endangered Elephants Elephant numbers fell dramatically in the 19th and 20th centuries ( Elephants).
Due to poaching and ivory trade the Elephant population had been dramatically dwindling. Habitat
loss is another major contributor to the decrease in these extraordinary animals. There are many
different things you can do to help slow their decline in population. Raising awareness about this
problem could help us save the Elephants. The Elephant is the largest land mammal on Earth (
Elephant | Species | WWF. ). As you can imagine, Elephants need a lot of food, land, water and space
to roam with their herd. The rainforests they call home are being cut down, causing them to migrate
closer to humans. This causes elephants to get into farmers crops, putting them at risk of being killed.
Elephants use their trunks to dig for food, water and strip the bark off of trees ( African Elephant |
National Geographic. ). Only the male elephants use their tusks to battle each other. Elephants are very
fond of water and Elephants ears radiate heat to help keep these large animals cool, but sometimes the
African heat is too much, ( African Elephant | National Geographic. ). The Asian elephant is very
intelligent. It is one of the only land mammals known to recognize itself in the mirror ( Asian
Elephant. ). Asian elephants are much smaller than African elephants. They have much smaller ears
and tusks. They are also

how their research showed when students have consistent diverse experiences they meaningfully
affect important learning and democracy outcomes of a college education (pp. 34, 2002). When it
comes to developing one s personal educational philosophy, empirical data is important and has the
ability to give us information that we can use to assess whether or not our beliefs and strategies we
intend to use will be effective and have the outcomes we are seeking.
The established higher education model that I tend to gravitate toward and support in my higher
education philosophy is the student centered learning theory also sometimes called learner centered
teaching or a student centered model. The theory of student centered learning can be contributed to
Hayward as early as 1905 and in 1956 to John Dewey (O Neill and McMahon, n.d.). The student
centered model is driven by a need for a change in the traditional educational environment and when
incorporated and implemented correctly we will see

Analysis Of Dante Alihieri s Purgatorio By Dante Is...
In Dante Alihieri s Purgatorio, Dante is climbing up the Mount of Purgatory. Dante encounters many
trials that he must face with the help of Virgil (human reason). The closer Dante gets the to the top of
Purgatory the more and more Virgil fades away and when he finally does disappear Beatrice is there to
be Dante s guide.. Throughout Purgatorio, Alihieri uses Beatrice not only as a symbol to portray the
medieval church but also a light. This is why Dante is blinded by the sight of Beatrice when she drops
the veil. Most commentators agree with idea of Beatrice being a symbol of both the church and light
while Bernard Stambler agrees with this but he expands upon that symbol. While most commentators
believe that Beatrice is an accurate example of the Church, others tend to believe that the chariot that
Alihieri talks about in Canto 32 is a more accurate representation of the church. John Carroll was one
of the ones to believe this. In Stambler s book, Dante s Other World; the Purgatorio as Guide to the
Divine Comedy, he talks about how Beatrice is more than just one symbol in Canto 32 and 33 in
Purgatorio. He says that first, the essential function of the Church throughout the purgatorial process
and through the further preparation of the soul for its entrance to heaven; second, the material decay
into which the Church as an institution had fallen through her usurpation of temporal functions
(Stambler 271). He is saying that Beatrice is a symbol for Church but he expands

The Core Of Android Architecture
It is the core of Android architecture that forms the foundation of Android. Linux kernel includes
hardware drivers, power management, memory management, process management and binder driver,
which provides all the fundamental services needed by the system. Although it is called Linux kernel,
it is not a standard Linux kernel; Google has customized it for Android devices. The main difference
between them is the binder driver, which is an Android specific inter process communication
mechanism that enables one Android process to call a procedure in another Android process. Another
major difference is the ashmem module, which is an Android version of shared memory allocator,
similar to Portable Operating System Interface (POSIX) shm but with a simpler file based API. And
also the Power Manager has been enhanced to save battery, which is critical for smartphones.
Libraries
On top of Linux kernel are Libraries, which provide services written in native language like C and
C++. It contains a long list of middle wares that include SQLite, WebKit, SSL, Media, C runtime
library. SQLite is responsible for database, WebKit is for browser support, SSL is used to secure
network transmissions.

Android applications. DVM is the Android implementation of Java Virtual Machine (JVM), which

Symbolism In Persepolis By Marjane Satrapi
Each author has their own special technique that they use in their work that makes their novel unique.
Symbolism is a common technique that is used by authors all over the world. It is an artistic style,
consisting of images and indirect thoughts to express a certain idea or emotion. Authors use
symbolism to add depth and meaning to a story. (Blogger p1) When a symbolic feature is put into a
story, the readers begin to think about the literal meaning and then compare it to the symbolic meaning
that could be interpreted from the text. Symbolism displayed throughout the novel Persepolis by
Marjane Satrapi portrays different views of the novel; historical, childlike views. The novel takes
place in Iran during the 1980 s which marked the beginning of political and religious confusion
throughout the country. Marjane Satrapi lives with a family who supports revolutionaries and attends
political protests where she obtains knowledge about the world and the social and political problems
that are occurring around her. Since she was introduced to these situations at such a young age, she
grew up as a strong and independent woman, wanting to make the world a better place. The author,
Marjane Satrapi tells the story and adds in the symbolic aspects to share her stories of her growing up
during one of the largest revolutions in Iran s history and to share her views, feelings and opinions
throughout that time period. The symbolic use of color throughout the novel, the veil the women

Fourth Of July Themes
Born On the Fourth of July like a spoken narrative, has many themes that overlap throughout the story.
It s I think inaccurate to say that there is one theme that encompasses the idea and spirit of the book as
it is more like an autobiography than a fictional narrative. Throughout the length of the story, themes
of dehumanization, sacrifice, feelings of betrayal and having to rebuild oneself weave into the
narrative. These themes are dependent on each other and are in some ways a part of a bigger theme.
They cannot in the case of this story stand alone because they play a role in the overall story that
would be incomplete if all of the themes weren t included.

Non Substance Disorder Support Group Meeting
Having thought about which non substance disorder support group meeting I would like to attend, I
originally choose Sex Addicts Anonymous (SA) because I knew someone decades ago who became a
member, and knowing the person well, I have been curious about the meetings for some time now.
However, the SA meetings are closed, in retrospect this makes sense for a variety of reasons, and since
I could not tell them that I considered myself to qualify as a sex addict, I had to make another choice.
My next choice was an Overeaters Anonymous meeting because there was one at the Atonement
Church, of which I am familiar. Once again plans changed, and I was destined to arrive at the
Wyomissing Church of the Brethren at 2200 State Hill Road. Consequently, this was a Wednesday
evening meeting at 5:15 p.m. I live across from Centre Park in Town and I got stuck in an obscene
amount of traffic trying to get on the Warren Street Bypass. At one point, I figured that I maybe could
turn around and try the Thursday OE meeting at Atonement because I was getting so anxious worrying
where exactly I had to go, and if I would walk in late, and this I definitely did not want to do.
Deciding to press on, I pulled into the parking lot at 5:17, so I continued into what I presumed to be
the front lobby. There were signs strewn about regarding community meetings and such, but nothing
about OE specifically, and no signs of life. Thankfully, my meeting instincts kicked in, and I stood

A Powerful Argument Analysis
The introduction section comprises of powerful argument techniques and the use of rhetoric
everywhere. One key point is the technique of commonplace, one of the building blocks of persuasion,
which is information or knowledge that is commonly shared among an audience that creates an
attitude of shared thinking. For example, Heinrichs uses pop culture examples of the Matrix, Britney
Spears and Animal House to better connect with the audience, therefore, making his topic more
interesting and relatable. Another key point is the technique of seduction where you manipulate
someone to desire something through appeals to emotion and the senses. Heinrichs uses the Food
Network as an example with its pleasing visuals and sounds of food. Another key ... Show more

The first step is setting your goal in what you what you want to achieve or obtain. True victory is
achieved when you get what you want from the other person not, necessarily, when you outscore your
opponent. The second step is determining your goals for your audience so you can determine different
techniques to change their mind. The persuasion of people can be achieved easier when you change
their mood, their opinion and their desire. The third step is determining the issue so you can meet your
goals. Blame, values and choice make up the three key categories of issues. To produce a productive
argument pinpointing the issue is imperative. The fourth step is selecting a correct tense to prevent
misinterpretations and accusations. The use of past tense determines guilt and deals out punishment
while the present tense distinguishes groups, gives praise and condemnation. The future tense
indicates future goals and how to achieve them. The final step is understanding and fitting into the
audience. In knowing the audience s beliefs and values you gain the mentality and the knowledge of
commonplace. The knowledge of this allows you to use decorum to better connect with the audience
and meet their expectations.
In chapter 13 of Thank you for Arguing, deductive and inductive logic are used to reach from a
commonplace to a conclusion and likewise, however, I m still confused in how the process of that

We intend to explore Critical Network Security Issues for IoT in general, and then focus on the
privacy concerns arising. We have surveyed multiple papers, articles and other publishings to achieve
this goal.
Motivation and Interest
IoT encompasses different devices which connect to the internet and talk to each other. By 2020, the
Internet of Everything expected to connect 50 Billion . IoT leads to a multitude of things(devices)
sharing data over the internet, which would definitely contain a lot of private information. Thus,
information security on the shared data is of utmost importance. Security and privacy related issues
are bound to explode if not addressed succinctly.
With the growth of IoT new security challenges arise traditional challenges become more severe
Understanding and exploring the existing and possible vulnerabilities in IoT systems is critical at the
current point of time. People will use a technology if the perceived benefit is larger than the perceived
risk. My (Teja s) areas of interest are Machine Learning and IoT. Yoonie, the other team member also

What Is The Difference Between A PAnd Harrison Bergeron
Tim Kenda English 102 Short Story Essay 2/28/10 Heroism Through Choice When people think of
heroes, they often think of muscle bound men in spandex with unrealistic powers of flight, strength, or
x ray vision. But in real life, heroes are often determined based on the smallest of situations and their
outcomes. In both of the stories I have chosen (A P and Harrison Bergeron), the main characters are
classified as heroes because of their willingness to defy the authoritive forces around them, whether it
be the store manager Lengel in A P or the Handicapper General in Harrison Bergeron, as well as their
willingness to strike out on their own instead of adhering to social norms. In Harrison Bergeron, the

and then goes on to describe Lengel by saying His face was dark gray and his back stiff, as if he d just

before that had been him. At the end of the story, the cashier becomes a symbol of the thoughts of
many young people during the late fifties and early sixties. He does not want to work in the same
dreary place for his whole life. He does not want to be just like his parents and Lengel. And despite
that fact that he knows it will be hard, he makes the decision to strike out on his own, and
consequently to fight back against what he views as a dreary and depressing reality. That is a hard
decision to make, and a heroic one as well. As a result of his actions, the cashier in A P not only
commits a heroic gesture, he also becomes a symbol of the change that was taking place in the late
fifties and early sixties. Many young people at that point in time were breaking away from what their
parents were doing and were bravely striking off onto their own paths, just like the hero in our story.

used in the war on the American side were: Browning M1919A4/A6 that fired up to 500 rounds in one
minute, and the Browning M2HB (.50 BMG) that had grown a reputation for itself, because it was

Factors Influencing Dynamic Control Of The Helicopter Pilots
The helicopter pilots, in general, are required to be skillful in operations on both improved and
unimproved surfaces. During normal or slope takeoffs and landings with some degree of bank angle or
side drift with one skid or wheel on the ground causes the helicopter to roll. When the rollover
happens, the lateral cyclic control response becomes more sluggish and less effective than for a
hovering helicopter. Consequently, if a roll rate is permitted to develop, a critical bank angle may be
reached where roll cannot be corrected, even with full lateral cyclic, and the helicopter will roll over
onto its side. As the roll rate increases, the angle at which recovery is still possible is significantly
reduced. The critical rollover angle is also reduced. So, the goal of this essay is to cover the factors
influencing dynamic control such as solo flight, cross wind, tail rotor thrust etc. and understand the
recognition of dynamic rollover, how to avoid it and steps required for recovery. In addition, the
effects of critical rollover angle on dynamic rollover and factors influencing dynamic rollover are also
discussed.
Introduction:
An increasing percentage of helicopter accidents are attributed to dynamic rollover, results in
destruction of helicopter and some serious injuries to the helicopter pilots and crew. The dynamic
rollover is a condition of power flight, where helicopter tends to roll laterally. When a helicopter is
lifting off the ground or it is hovering with one

Essay on Economic Growth and Development
Economic growth is a necessary but not sufficient condition of economic development.
There is no single definition that encompasses all the aspects of economic development. The most
comprehensive definition perhaps of economic development is the one given by Todaro:
Development is not purely an economic phenomenon but rather a multi dimensional process involving
reorganization and re orientation of the entire economic and social system.
Development is a process of improving the quality of all human lives with three equally important
aspects. These are:
1. Raising peoples living levels, i.e. incomes and consumption, levels of food, medical services,
education through relevant growth processes.
2. Creating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amartya Sen defines economic development in terms of personal freedom, freedom to choose from a
range of options. While economic growth may lead to an increase in the purchasing power of people,
if the country has a repressed economy, there is lack of choice and hence personal freedom in
restricted. Hence once again growth has taken place without any development.
While economic growth may result in an improvement in the standard of living of a relatively small
proportion of the population whilst the majority of the population remains poor. It is how the
economic growth is distributed amongst the population that determines the level of development.
Taking into consideration the trickle down theory of economics by
Lewis, if the growth in economy is not sufficient to satisfy the needs and wants of the upper sections,
nothing or very little shall trickle down to the lower sections in the hierarchy of society. Thus, the gap
between the rich and poor widens and though economic growth has impacted a certain section of
society, this cannot be considered development. Another example is an increase in the defence output
of a nation, which accounts for an increased GDP but does not in any way contribute to economic
development.
Economic growth is not enough in itself to measure economic development as even if there has been a
leap in the income of people in a particular nation,

Social Equality In Ralph Ellison s Battle Royal
Marriages between African Americans and whites were prohibited by sixteen states, including
Virginia, until the revolutionary United States supreme court case of Loving v. Virginia. Gunnar
Myrdal illustrates in his essay, Social Equality, how society, specifically white men, felt about white
women being romantically involved with black men. Ralph Ellison in his short story Battle Royal,
gives an example of how African American men felt around white women before intermarriage was
permissible. Before the case of Loving v. Virginia, various influential African Americans were in
intermarriages. Today, miscegenation and/or interracial marriages are not only tolerable, but accepted
by most United States citizens. White men were appalled and outraged by the idea of white women
and black men being in an intimate and romantic relationship, especially if it resulted in having
children. It is more directed toward women because in regard to white men it is taken more or less for
granted that they would not stoop to marry Negro women... and since the popular doctrine says that
maternity is stronger than paternity the child of a Negro women and a white man would be considered
Negro and vice versa (Myrdal, 1090). Essentially, white men wanted to maintain the purity of the
white race, retain their superiority of the white race, and avoid pollution of Negro blood into the white
race (Myrdal, 1090). People in the South agreed that there was a high allure to prevent intermarriage,

Easter Island was once a haven for its inhabitants. It provided them with all of their needs, food,

into a disaster, with almost no natural resources. This could very well happen to us, because our earth
is the same Eden that Easter Island once was.
The people of Easter Island came over to their new land, and recognized that it was ideal for them to
settle. The land was lush; the sea was providing a bounty of fresh fish, and other seafood. The earth
was dark brown, and very rich. Everything was just the way it needed to be to support a growing
community of people.

The soil was losing its great growing powers, because of over cultivation. There were hardly as many
seabirds as could be remembered in recent years. Slowly but surely, their way of life was dwindling,
like a slowing dying flame. They couldn t directly see their end, but it was near. When their major
population finally did go, it went out with a whimper. Slowly and quietly they went the way of their
beloved fern trees. With the loss of all of the necessary items to sustain their eco system, such as the
fern, the trees, which they used to make rope, the birds they used, hunt. All gone now, because they
could not replenish them selves in a quickly enough time to meet the needs of the people.
This should act as a rude awakening to us. The planet could be considered a large Easter Island. We
have a potentially non sustainable eco system. If we are not careful, we could go the same way as the
inhabitants of the island. It is possible for us to use up everything so there is nothing left for our
children to use. If we look at our progression over the last 300 years that we have inhabited North
America, we will notice that we have removed many natural resources. Trees in the Northwest, plains
in the Midwest, the marshes of Florida, all of which have been devastated by humans in the past
centuries. Our great grandparents did not notice the destruction, nor will I ever be

Christianity And The Rise Of Christianity
Christianity is the historical religion stemming from the teachings of Jesus Christ in the 1st century
AD. Of all the great religions Christianity is the most widespread and has the largest number of
adherents. It is the world s largest and most influential religion in history. Christianity can be found on
every corner of the globe with nearly two billion followers at the beginning of the 21st century. It is
the predominant religion in Europe, the Americas, and Southern Africa. This religion based on faith
began as a small sect of Judaism during the 1st century in ancient Israel and spread to the Americas
and the rest of the world through colonization and Christian missionaries. Christianity has played a
conspicuous role in the shaping of Western civilization. The impact and the rapid spread of this
religion eventually came to dominate the Western world.
Christianity
Christianity is the monotheistic religion based upon the life, oral teachings and miracles of Jesus of
Nazareth. Jesus lived in Palestine during the first century. The adherents of this religion believe that
Jesus is the messiah prophesied in the Old Testament. They believe that Jesus is the son of God and
the anointed one that God sent to this world to save people from their sins. Most Christians believe in
one God in three Persons; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. A Christian hopes to attain eternal
life after death through faith in Jesus Christ and tries to live according to his teachings. The

Syntax In Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address
In Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address, he addresses the nation. At the end of the Civil War,
both the North and South still had issues with each other. Lincoln s speech calls both the North and
South to put their problems aside that s preventing them from getting along. In this speech, Lincoln
uses tone, diction, and syntax to help reach the purpose of the speech. Lincoln s tone encourages the
Americans to finish the Civil War and the progress as becoming a nation. According to The Avalon
Project it says, let us strive on to finish the work we are in and to do all which may achieve and
cherish a just and lasting peace. Lincoln s tone, that he uses, is hopeful: he wished for the war to finish

it all sought to avert it. The differentiation in the lengths of the sentences can show the difference
between the North and South, and Lincoln s tendency to combine them to make a strong country. This
syntax helps highlight Lincoln s purpose of joining a divided country by merging two different
sentence lengths to make a powerful speech, showing that the combination of the Confederacy and the
Union will make a strong country. Lastly, Lincoln uses syntax to make a call for a unified country,
mainly as he concludes. According, to the article The Avalon Project it says let us strive to finish the

The Effect Of Temperature On Blood Pressure And Heart Rate
Teacher s Instruction:
Design a lab that will examine a factor that affects blood pressure and heart rate.
Research Question:
What is the effect of temperature on blood pressure and heart rate?
Introduction:
Blood transports nutrients, oxygen, carbon dioxide, hormones, antibodies, urea and heat through our
body. The heart is transports blood by pumping it through blood vessels.
Blood flows from areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure. The pressure of blood in the
circulatory system is a value called blood pressure (mmHg: millimeters of mercury ), which is
measured by two numbers: systolic pressure and diastolic pressure. The systolic number is the
pressure in the arteries when the heart beats (when the heart muscle contracts), while the diastolic
number is pressure in the arteries between heartbeats (when the heart muscle is resting between beats
and refilling with blood). The ideal blood pressure is 120/80 mmHg.
Heart rate on the other hand is the number of times (in one minute) that the heart beats or contracts. A
heart rate can be anywhere between 60 and 100 beats per minute.
This experiment will involve five individuals putting their left hand in different samples of water of
varying temperatures. Their blood pressure and heart rate will be recorded before the experiment, and
after each water trial, to determine the effect it has on both the blood pressure and heart rate.
Variables:

House Essay
House, despite having a sexist main character and hardly and characters who are women, is my very
favorite television show. When I watch (which, by the way, is every week; religiously), I do so
because of the intensity and intrigue of the program. The various medical cases that the show involves
keep me on my toes and excited for what is about to happen next. It wasn t until this week, however,
that I noticed just how many inequalities and separations there are between men and women in the
show. First of all, the main character of House, Dr. Greg House, is a man. Whether or not the position
could be played as either a man or a woman, I do not know. However, I should say that Hugh Laurie,
the actor, does a truly remarkable job (he won a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He has absolutely no tact in dealing with her, and has mentioned on made many remarks about her
gender. Later, I will discuss how this is evident even in this one particular episode. To only look at
House s relationship with Cameron, however, would prove as an injustice. House is equally rude and
uncouth with his other two employees. One is black, and one is British. To say that House ignores
either of these factors would be completely incorrect. House refers to the black man as darky , asks
him about crime related incidents, all in an effort to spite him. This is the same way he speaks with
Cameron about her womanhood. Is he sexist? Is he racist? Maybe. Personally, I feel that he is not
meant to be portrayed as such. I think he is just an old, angry man. Tonight s episode did not
disappoint, and has actually proved quite pertinent to this assignment. It revolves around a sixteen
year old supermodel who has a panic attack on the runway, punches a fellow model, and then
collapses to the ground, unable to move, but still aware of what is around her. When she arrives at the
hospital, her father admits to giving her Valium prior to her performance in order to help with nerves.
Also, he later admits to having had sex with her a year or so again. House is not concerned with this
information, and decided to keep the father around to ask him more questions about the daughter.
Cameron, however, finds this information very troubling and reports him. At the very end of the

Death Penalty Too Harsh Punishment Essay
The death penalty is the only suitable punishment for murderers. The death penalty insures that
criminals know that if they kill they will be killed, and they are going to receive a harsh punishment.
Also it could be cheaper than sentencing a prisoner to life in prison. People feel that the death penalty
is too harsh of a punishment. Which that would be a harsh punishment but they took another human s

The Man to Send Rain Clouds
The Man to Send Rain Clouds is a short story based on the death of a very old man at the Pueblo
Indian reservation. This results to various issues from the conflicting spiritual aspects and Christianity
aspects. At the beginning of the story, the body of the old man is identified lying under a cottonwood
tree in the indicant reservation. The sheep owned by the old man are scattered in all locations of the
arroyo Lavine. The two men who identify the body are Leon and Ken and they manage to bring back
the camp where they found the old man s body. The story focuses on the life of individuals in Laguna,

determined to change the religious practices of the Native Americans religious practices. The setting
of the book is modern although it entails of rituals and traditions of the ancient Laguna Pueblo
individuals. The Laguna s believe that the dead individuals become the cloud people who eventually
give them a gift of rain. Rain is a vital element of the Native American life because it is one of the
factors that sustain life. According to the short story, The Man to Send Rain Clouds by Leslie Marmon

Church after the death of the old man. According to the traditional rituals, the dead man is supposed to
have a feather tied on their head, their faces smeared with four colors, they should be wrapped in a red
blanket and buried with corn meal and water should be sprinkled around their graves. These are the
traditional rituals practiced by the Laguna individuals which are symbolic to their culture. The feathers

Border Patrol Nation Essay
BORDER PATROL NATION
A nation without borders is not a nation. Today, every country is putting efforts to secure its borders
not only from terrorists and drugs smuggling, but also from the illegal immigration. All these recurring
activities have sparked the United States to secure its borders against illegal immigrants and terrorism
by creating a special department named the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). DHS is headed
by the Secretary of Homeland Security. After the terrorist attack of 9/11, terrorism and illegal
immigration were two striking issues for the DHS. To solve these issues, the Department of Homeland
Security further created two immigration enforcement agencies: U.S. Immigration and Customs
Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in year 2003. The United
States has over seven thousand miles of border to cover each day. The US shares its borders with
Canada and Mexico. That s why the CBP was established to safeguard our borders through the
deployment of technology, personnel, and infrastructure. The US Border Patrol is the most visible of
DHS s agencies and is now touching majority of population than ever before. It has increased its
strength to more than 21,000 agents, up from 8,500 in 2001and 4,000 in 1994(17). The primary
function of the Border Patrol Agency is apprehension of terrorists, drug interdiction and immigration
enforcement. The book Border Patrol Nation by Todd Miller is a classic example of the Border Patrol

Issues Surrounding Narrative Design Essay
Narrative design is useful to the advancement of educational research because the stories collected
have the power to communicate key information otherwise not possible through other research
designs. Through stories it is possible to learn about personal account about classrooms, schools,
educational issues and the setting in which they work (Creswell, 2008, p. 511). Everyone has a story
to tell about incidents, events and experiences whether long or short that are useful in understanding
occurrences within a given context. With the information provided through storytelling, researchers
are then able to engage in the restorying process to gain a better perspective of the individual s story.
Yet despite its wonderful offerings, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a major concern to researchers, especially because they rely heavily on self reported
information from participants (Creswell, 2008, p. 522). Based on my personal experience, two
common reasons why people provide false data is to provide a happy conclusion, which makes people
comfortable, or to victimize because they seek attention. Fortunately, researchers may use several
techniques to address the issue of collecting false data. The techniques used include the collection of
multiple field texts, the triangulation of data, and member checking (Creswell, 2008). These
techniques are useful to review and assess the data collected through stories as false or reliable. On the
one hand, multiple field texts provide data from various sources, triangulation, and member checking
assist in confirming the data provided as well as the findings as per the interpretation of the researcher
(Creswell, 2008). Even though gathering stories poses a threat to the study, these techniques are useful
to the researcher as he or she ensures the validity of the research. The second issue in gathering stories
traces back to the concern of whether or not the participants are able to tell the real story (Creswell,
2008). At times, presenting the real story is dangerous to the participant because of the degree of detail
and information provided as part of the story. For example,

island goddess, created all life and became an island after falling asleep. Her heart, a small pounamu

Heroic As A Hero
What does the word heroic mean to you? What pops into your mind? For me when I think of the word
heroic, I think of my dad. My dad has always supported me on all my decisions and he is alway
reliable. Not only does my dad supports me on everything, he is also very understanding and humble.
He has always been loving and patient, not only with me, but with the small town of Manton. He also
goes out of his way to make others feel good before himself. It was the year of 2010, the sun was
shining and the wind was slight. I was on my way home from school when my aunt Angie s phone
started ringing. She was driving so she let my cousin Haley answer her phone. It was my dad, he was
calling with the most life changing news I have ever heard. It was about my mom, she couldn t be
found, no one has heard from her all day. My dad made me come home right away. When I got home
he ran over to me and wrapped his soft arms around me and held me so very closely. That life
changing day, has made my dad and I more closer. Since she has been gone, there hasn t been one day
that he hasn t been by my side. Not only is he always there for me he is also a very reliable person. In
our town of Manton, my dad has been a very flexible, helping, and a very patient community member.
Along with that, he has been a great role model for me. My father has been the host of the Bluegrass
Festival, Harvest Festival, and many more Community gatherings. He volunteers his own personal
time to help others that are in need. An example of this is his career. His career of being a pharmacist
changed from employee to boss very quickly. He helps others when they are in need of medicine or
have medical concerns during out of business hours. He makes time to deliver from five to ten pm on
his own time. When I watch him do all this community service, volunteer, and put others first, it
makes me do the same. That is why he is a very loving flexible, helping, patient, role model. For not
only me, but including with the rest of the citizens of Manton. When someone makes mistakes usually
there is a lot of disappointment. Perhaps you do something you re not supposed to, or you let your

Global Warming Is A Serious Problem
Global warming is a serious problem the world faces today. Most people don t know, or just don t
care, what global warming is and how it affects them. What causes global warming? What effect is it
or will it have on my life? How can we fix it? It is not too late to save our planet but it will take some
effort from everyone. The earth s atmosphere is supposed to trap heat or the earth would freeze
overnight and it would be uninhabitable. The problem is all the extra chemicals that we are putting up
in the atmosphere like methane and co2. When we put all these chemicals in the air they build up in
the atmosphere and trap even more heat than is needed resulting in rising temperatures. However
chemicals in the air are not the only reason for climate change and the decline of our environment.
Five millions gallons of toxins are dumped into the oceans every day and as a result of this and over

growth forests are gone(The 11th Hour). The ice caps are melting which is causing sea levels to rise.
Sea levels are expected to rise between seven and twenty three inches by the end of the century and
continued melting at the poles could add another four to eight inches(NationalGeographic). Almost

The High Dynamic Range Compression Operator
4 METHODOLOGY HDR image given as an input with radiance map I^h, f (.) is the high dynamic
range compression operator computes the radiance map in a low dynamic range I^l = f (I^h). An
important goal of this method is to decrease the large radiance values and increase small ones. To
correctly keep the local structures, however, the monotonic mapping of radiance should be satisfied
regarding each pixel s neighborhood in a small local region, similar to the global tone mapping curves
monotone characteristic. Firstly, generate guidance map c according to eq (4) which indicates the area
of the input HDR image that should be enhanced or compressed, then divide input HDR image into
windows or blocks. Secondly, compare guidance map values in each window with threshold value.
Thirdly, determine if linear or nonlinear tone mapping method applied for selected window in image.
Then, if we describe the window w_i with pixel i in the center, the linear function is: I^l (j)=p_i I^h
(j)+q_i , j ∈w_i (1) A simple yet complete representation has been provided that satisfy the local
monotonic constraint. Control the mapping in different ways through the coefficients p_i and q_i

the base radiance level. The terms q and p directly control the local contrast as shown in Fig. 1. If p 1,

Non diegetic sound and cross cutting are implemented in this sequence to build tension as well as
preparing the audience for the inevitable climax. We see the action from three different perspectives

shot of the scope on Chris s rifle to show Chris point of view. As the scene builds to its climax,
additional shots are added. This includes a shot of Chris placing his finger on the trigger of the rifle as

When critically analyzing an academic work we must analyze not only the work, but the source as
well. Evaluating the source of the work not only gives better a foundation for the work itself but also
creates a validation and a measure of the level of integrity. This typically involves looking at both the

Aubrey Malphurs (2003) believes that those who lead set the example to those who follow. Someone
showing religious leadership also demonstrates the capabilities of a good follower. One using the
belief system of this writer would understand what a follower is through Biblical Scripture. but the
one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the servant.
Luke 22:26 In other words a leader who serves is worth following but a leader who does not serve is
not worth following, especially someone who follows self. Religious leadership can also describe a
group of people following a particular belief system and having influence over others. Examples
would be the Southern Baptist Convention or the Evangelical Church Alliance and many others.
Although a particular group of people may not set out to provide religious leadership, they do lead by
making decisions for members in that particular group. It could be considered a selective form of
religious leadership.
If a religious leader is one who influences others to follow a particular set of beliefs, then someone
who does not influence others should not be considered as one who provides leadership. Within the

Is It Possible to Restore a Balance between the...
Recently everyone has started hearing the out cry surrounding the problem of the degradationof the
worlds ecosystems that have a negative effect on the biodiversity and the livelihoods of people
worldwide. People are beginning to realise that that these bio systems can not be conserved just
through the protection of critical areas alone.
A new solution whos potential hasn t been fully taken advantage of until now is ecological restoration
which is a process whereby not only the recovery of eco systems that have been degraded damaged or
destroyed are looked at but also the human influences that surround them.
In order for ecological restoration to be effective it needs to pay attention to four main aspects namely:
Improvement of biodiversity conservation,
Improvement of the livelihoods of people,
The empowerment of the native and local people and
The improvement of the productivity of the ecosystems.
The difference between typical conservation where only the environment is considered and ecological
restoration is that it has the potential to make opportunities available not only to repair the damage
done to the ecosystems but also to improve the condition of the people involved in rescuing it.
Because people belive they are helping themselfs ecological restoration has been able to alter the
perspective of people in the local community, allowing new economic opportunities to form aswel as

Why Tattoos Should Be Allowed In The Military
Tattoos are a growing trend that continues to become more popular as the years go by. However, the
trend does not stop the rules and regulations that are set in the U.S. military. The paper examines the
reasons why tattoos should be allowed in the U.S. military. The history of tattoos date back to the
pyramid times and they have also been a longstanding tradition in the military. Tattoos are a form of
art, which express a significant meaning. The artwork reflects a positive image of individuality and
self expression for people. Tattoos are a lifelong commitment. People who view the art of tattoos as
trashy can be quick to judge others who have tattoos. However, it is impossible to know the true colors
of a person based on their tattoos. As long as the tattoos are not offensive to anyone, service members
should be allowed to have them in the U.S. military. Tattoo Policies in the U.S. Military It is inevitable
that tattoos are becoming more popular as time goes by. There are more people today with tattoos than
there were years ago. Before it was only common for bikers and servicemen to have tattoos. Now it is
one of the most cultural trends out there. Some call them trashy, rebellious, and unprofessional when
others would disagree stating that they are pieces of art and beautiful. There are troops that sacrifice
their lives for our country that have been involved in many combat operations that are denied re

Imagine living in a world without role models. Creation would be an immense chaotic mess with the
population acting like heathens. Similar to a flower that does not receive enough nourishments
gradually perishing, without positive role models feeding our youth, creation would inhabit
senselessness and eventually terminate. Today, in the society we live in, people are more concerned on
the public status, or simply the exterior appearance, of a person rather than the example they are
setting. Leading to the question, what is a positive role model? Well, this can be very complex in
explaining, everyone s ideal role model can vary from one and another. One of the most generic
definitions according to Collins English Dictionary, of role a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A value is something someone believes to be important or admirable. Values can include, although are
not limited to, relationships, religion, health, and etc. An important value of a wonderful role model is
honesty. This does not entail insulting, and pointing out others misfortunes in interest of the truth.
Instead, an honest person is accurate, shows fairness, and has consideration for others feelings. One
value that would be worthy to follow, is someone to does not participate in drug misuse, underage
drinking, or any other illegal activities. This represents integrity, at the same time as exhibiting to
others that they can have increased fun without breaking the law. One of the utmost commendable
values of a good role model is one who values religion. Gods translucent light presents itself through
this person s speech, in addition to his actions. This displays obedience, willingness to listen to
authority, love, and commitment. Worthy values of a great role model further extend to a variety of
other things depending on one s moral values. In order to demonstrate one s values, he must display
them to everyone, much like a farmer would display his

Deductive Databases
subsection{Deductive Databases}
In the field of deductive databases there has been extensive research on the optimization of queries for
Datalog (and its variants). The major interest has been the optimization of recursive queries. Ceri et
al~cite{ceri gottlob tanca 1989} provide an excellent summary of the field. The evaluation or
comparison of optimization strategies is typified by Bancilhon and
Ramakrishnan~cite{br1986,br1988} who develop analytical cost models for the optimization
strategies when applied to four queries (related to the parent and ancestor relations) and then generate
numerical data from the analytical models using synthetic data driven by three shapes tree, inverted

item A new genomics query benchmark framework is developed to help the evaluation of the
efficiency and effectiveness of the graph database system with visual queries in a standard and
systematic way. It consists of a genomics domain model, a benchmark database with the raw data sets
based on the real world genome sequencing and annotation scenarios, a set of test queries and several
performance metrics. The genomics benchmark database has five typical fungal species data that are
of interest to the fungal genomics research community.
item A visual query language is designed based on the existing visual metaphor of genome browsers.
Its semantics via an algebra and translation to SQL3 are provided. It incorporates a type system for
genomics data with a set of topological and logical operations. New operations can be designed using
function composition based on the data model. The operations have equivalent translation to SQL3.
The algebra provides the semantics for the visual query language and facilitate a visual query
language implementation based on this algebra. A database architecture using a visual query language
based on this algebra is proposed.

Redemption In Khaled Hosseini s The Kite Runner
One of the most primary ways to achieve redemption is through the means of acceptance. At the same
time, a majority of people who are not ready to accept their mistakes will either end up making
another mistake or live their entire life in guilt. This situation can be observed in Khaled Hosseini s
The Kite Runner when Amir attempts to achieve redemption by accusing Hassan for theft. Before
Amir could accept his mistake, he attempts to redeem himself by intentionally tempting Hassan to
fight back and speak up. However, this attempt backfires on Amir when Hassan and Ali decide to
leave Baba s house after accepting and apologizing for Hassan s mistake. Therefore, acceptance plays
a key role in redemption. Meanwhile, there are multiple variations of ... Show more content on

While attempting to achieve redemption, Amir hurled the pomegranate at [Hassan]. It struck him in
the chest, exploded in a spray of red pulp (Hosseini 92). This is important because the red pulp of the
pomegranate that struck Hassan on the chest symbolizes blood and violence that is on Amir s mind.
Thinking that Amir could achieve redemption by tempting Hassan to fight back, he decides to throw
pomegranates at him until he eventually realizes that this approach would not work. Over time as
Amir matures he continues his quest for a new approach. While searching for Sohrab, Amir engages
into a fight with Assef; where after a very long time he surprisingly felt at peace. [He] laughed
because [he] saw that, in some nook in the corner of [his] mind, [he] had been looking forward to this
(Hosseini 303). This is ironic because while Amir used to fear Assef at the time when Hassan got
raped, he now looks forward to this fight. The fear that caused Amir to betray Hassan, now allows
Amir to achieve redemption. Ironically, through the means of violence, Amir successfully finally
achieves

Pullman Strike Essay
The Pullman Strike was a disturbing event in Illinois history. It occurred because of the way George
Mortimer Pullman, founder and president of the Pullman Palace Car Company, treated his workers.
Organized in 1867, the company manufactured sleeping cars and operated them under contract to the
railroads
The Pullman Palace Car Company, a manufacturer of railroad cars cut the already low wages of its
workers by about 25 percent, but didn t introduce corresponding reductions in rents and other charges
at Pullman s company town near Chicago, where most Pullman workers lived. In result of this many
worked and their families faced starvation. A large section of workers tried to present their problems
about low wages, poor living conditions, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the ARU was not technically involved in the Pullman workers decision to strike, union
officials had been in Pullman and at the meeting at which the strike vote was taken, and Pullman
workers undoubtedly believed that the ARU would back them. A great deal of sympathy existed in
Chicago and elsewhere for the Pullman workers, who were seen as common men and women
tyrannized by an abusive employer and landlord. One plan was to refuse to hitch Pullman cars to
trains and to unhitch those that were already attached. Another idea was a boycott: ARU members
would refuse to handle Pullman cars or any trains with Pullman cars until the railroads severed their
ties with the Pullman Company. ARU members would refuse to handle Pullman cars or any trains with
Pullman cars until the railroads severed their ties with the Pullman Company. As any success for a
boycott would be the Switchmen who had joined the ARU in large numbers. The ARU s president,
Eugene V. Debs, predicted that, once the switchmen refused to add or remove Pullman cars from
trains, the railroads would fire them and try to replace them with nonunion workers, and that in turn
would lead other union members to walk out in solidarity, thus bringing more and more trains to a

  • 3. Aldo Leopold The Land Pyramid In his essay titled The Land Ethic, Aldo Leopold argues that humans should extend ethical behaviors to the natural environment or in other words, the land. The author points out that, thus far, humans have only acted ethically towards one another. However, he believes that it is time for humans also to start to treat the environment with the same respect and dignity that we have for the members of our own species. The author states that he is aware that we cannot entirely prevent utilizing nature as a resource and a commodity. Nonetheless, he concludes that humans should have the responsibility to take care of the environment and to assure its continued existence. Leopold does not believe that humans are the inferior species, the conquerors of the land as he puts it. Instead, he argues, humans are just plain citizens who simply share the planet with millions of other species and who are a part of an intricate and sophisticated system that makes life possible for all living beings. Nonetheless, he believes that in order for people to realize this, and for them to recognize nature as valuable and worth loving, they must be able to envision it as a tangible object. To make this possible, Leopold creates the idea of The Land Pyramid, whose purpose is to create a mental image of the environment as a complex biotic mechanism. The food pyramid is comprised of many layers. The bottom layer is the widest because it represents the species that are most abundant such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Due to poaching and ivory trade the Elephant population had been dramatically dwindling. Habitat loss is another major contributor to the decrease in these extraordinary animals. There are many different things you can do to help slow their decline in population. Raising awareness about this problem could help us save the Elephants. The Elephant is the largest land mammal on Earth ( Elephant | Species | WWF. ). As you can imagine, Elephants need a lot of food, land, water and space to roam with their herd. The rainforests they call home are being cut down, causing them to migrate closer to humans. This causes elephants to get into farmers crops, putting them at risk of being killed. Elephants use their trunks to dig for food, water and strip the bark off of trees ( African Elephant | National Geographic. ). Only the male elephants use their tusks to battle each other. Elephants are very fond of water and Elephants ears radiate heat to help keep these large animals cool, but sometimes the African heat is too much, ( African Elephant | National Geographic. ). The Asian elephant is very intelligent. It is one of the only land mammals known to recognize itself in the mirror ( Asian Elephant. ). Asian elephants are much smaller than African elephants. Dante encounters many trials that he must face with the help of Virgil (human reason). The closer Dante gets the to the top of Purgatory the more and more Virgil fades away and when he finally does disappear Beatrice is there to be Dante s guide.. Throughout Purgatorio, Alihieri uses Beatrice not only as a symbol to portray the medieval church but also a light. This is why Dante is blinded by the sight of Beatrice when she drops the veil. Most commentators agree with idea of Beatrice being a symbol of both the church and light while Bernard Stambler agrees with this but he expands upon that symbol. While most commentators believe that Beatrice is an accurate example of the Church, others tend to believe that the chariot that Alihieri talks about in Canto 32 is a more accurate representation of the church. John Carroll was one of the ones to believe this. In Stambler s book, Dante s Other World; the Purgatorio as Guide to the Divine Comedy, he talks about how Beatrice is more than just one symbol in Canto 32 and 33 in Purgatorio. He says that first, the essential function of the Church throughout the purgatorial process and through the further preparation of the soul for its entrance to heaven; second, the material decay into which the Church as an institution had fallen through her usurpation of temporal functions (Stambler 271). Symbolism is a common technique that is used by authors all over the world. It is an artistic style, consisting of images and indirect thoughts to express a certain idea or emotion. Authors use symbolism to add depth and meaning to a story. (Blogger p1) When a symbolic feature is put into a story, the readers begin to think about the literal meaning and then compare it to the symbolic meaning that could be interpreted from the text. Symbolism displayed throughout the novel Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi portrays different views of the novel; historical, childlike views. The novel takes place in Iran during the 1980 s which marked the beginning of political and religious confusion throughout the country. The persuasion of people can be achieved easier when you change their mood, their opinion and their desire. The third step is determining the issue so you can meet your goals. Blame, values and choice make up the three key categories of issues. To produce a productive argument pinpointing the issue is imperative. The fourth step is selecting a correct tense to prevent misinterpretations and accusations. The use of past tense determines guilt and deals out punishment while the present tense distinguishes groups, gives praise and condemnation. The future tense indicates future goals and how to achieve them. The final step is understanding and fitting into the audience. • 19. Factors Influencing Dynamic Control Of The Helicopter Pilots The helicopter pilots, in general, are required to be skillful in operations on both improved and unimproved surfaces. During normal or slope takeoffs and landings with some degree of bank angle or side drift with one skid or wheel on the ground causes the helicopter to roll. When the rollover happens, the lateral cyclic control response becomes more sluggish and less effective than for a hovering helicopter. Consequently, if a roll rate is permitted to develop, a critical bank angle may be reached where roll cannot be corrected, even with full lateral cyclic, and the helicopter will roll over onto its side. As the roll rate increases, the angle at which recovery is still possible is significantly reduced. The critical rollover angle is also reduced. So, the goal of this essay is to cover the factors influencing dynamic control such as solo flight, cross wind, tail rotor thrust etc. and understand the recognition of dynamic rollover, how to avoid it and steps required for recovery. In addition, the effects of critical rollover angle on dynamic rollover and factors influencing dynamic rollover are also discussed. Introduction: An increasing percentage of helicopter accidents are attributed to dynamic rollover, results in destruction of helicopter and some serious injuries to the helicopter pilots and crew. The dynamic rollover is a condition of power flight, where helicopter tends to roll laterally. When a helicopter is lifting off the ground or it is hovering with one ... There is no single definition that encompasses all the aspects of economic development. The most comprehensive definition perhaps of economic development is the one given by Todaro: Development is not purely an economic phenomenon but rather a multi dimensional process involving reorganization and re orientation of the entire economic and social system. Development is a process of improving the quality of all human lives with three equally important aspects. These are: 1. Raising peoples living levels, i.e. incomes and consumption, levels of food, medical services, education through relevant growth processes. 2. Creating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Amartya Sen defines economic development in terms of personal freedom, freedom to choose from a range of options. While economic growth may lead to an increase in the purchasing power of people, if the country has a repressed economy, there is lack of choice and hence personal freedom in restricted. Hence once again growth has taken place without any development. While economic growth may result in an improvement in the standard of living of a relatively small proportion of the population whilst the majority of the population remains poor. It is how the economic growth is distributed amongst the population that determines the level of development. Taking into consideration the trickle down theory of economics by Lewis, if the growth in economy is not sufficient to satisfy the needs and wants of the upper sections, nothing or very little shall trickle down to the lower sections in the hierarchy of society. Thus, the gap between the rich and poor widens and though economic growth has impacted a certain section of society, this cannot be considered development. Another example is an increase in the defence output of a nation, which accounts for an increased GDP but does not in any way contribute to economic development. Economic growth is not enough in itself to measure economic development as even if there has been a leap in the income of people in a particular nation, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Social Equality In Ralph Ellison s Battle Royal Marriages between African Americans and whites were prohibited by sixteen states, including Virginia, until the revolutionary United States supreme court case of Loving v. Virginia. Gunnar Myrdal illustrates in his essay, Social Equality, how society, specifically white men, felt about white women being romantically involved with black men. Ralph Ellison in his short story Battle Royal, gives an example of how African American men felt around white women before intermarriage was permissible. Before the case of Loving v. Virginia, various influential African Americans were in intermarriages. Today, miscegenation and/or interracial marriages are not only tolerable, but accepted by most United States citizens. White men were appalled and outraged by the idea of white women and black men being in an intimate and romantic relationship, especially if it resulted in having children. It is more directed toward women because in regard to white men it is taken more or less for granted that they would not stoop to marry Negro women... and since the popular doctrine says that maternity is stronger than paternity the child of a Negro women and a white man would be considered Negro and vice versa (Myrdal, 1090). Essentially, white men wanted to maintain the purity of the white race, retain their superiority of the white race, and avoid pollution of Negro blood into the white race (Myrdal, 1090). At the end of the Civil War, both the North and South still had issues with each other. Lincoln s speech calls both the North and South to put their problems aside that s preventing them from getting along. In this speech, Lincoln uses tone, diction, and syntax to help reach the purpose of the speech. Lincoln s tone encourages the Americans to finish the Civil War and the progress as becoming a nation. According to The Avalon Project it says, let us strive on to finish the work we are in and to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace. • 26. The Effect Of Temperature On Blood Pressure And Heart Rate Teacher s Instruction: Design a lab that will examine a factor that affects blood pressure and heart rate. Research Question: What is the effect of temperature on blood pressure and heart rate? Introduction: Blood transports nutrients, oxygen, carbon dioxide, hormones, antibodies, urea and heat through our body. The heart is transports blood by pumping it through blood vessels. Blood flows from areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure. The pressure of blood in the circulatory system is a value called blood pressure (mmHg: millimeters of mercury ), which is measured by two numbers: systolic pressure and diastolic pressure. The systolic number is the pressure in the arteries when the heart beats (when the heart muscle contracts), while the diastolic number is pressure in the arteries between heartbeats (when the heart muscle is resting between beats and refilling with blood). The ideal blood pressure is 120/80 mmHg. Heart rate on the other hand is the number of times (in one minute) that the heart beats or contracts. A heart rate can be anywhere between 60 and 100 beats per minute. This experiment will involve five individuals putting their left hand in different samples of water of varying temperatures. Their blood pressure and heart rate will be recorded before the experiment, and after each water trial, to determine the effect it has on both the blood pressure and heart rate. The various medical cases that the show involves keep me on my toes and excited for what is about to happen next. It wasn t until this week, however, that I noticed just how many inequalities and separations there are between men and women in the show. To only look at House s relationship with Cameron, however, would prove as an injustice. House is equally rude and uncouth with his other two employees. One is black, and one is British. To say that House ignores either of these factors would be completely incorrect. House refers to the black man as darky , asks him about crime related incidents, all in an effort to spite him. This is the same way he speaks with Cameron about her womanhood. Is he sexist? Is he racist? Maybe. Personally, I feel that he is not meant to be portrayed as such. I think he is just an old, angry man. Tonight s episode did not disappoint, and has actually proved quite pertinent to this assignment. It revolves around a sixteen year old supermodel who has a panic attack on the runway, punches a fellow model, and then collapses to the ground, unable to move, but still aware of what is around her. Today, every country is putting efforts to secure its borders not only from terrorists and drugs smuggling, but also from the illegal immigration. All these recurring activities have sparked the United States to secure its borders against illegal immigrants and terrorism by creating a special department named the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). DHS is headed by the Secretary of Homeland Security. After the terrorist attack of 9/11, terrorism and illegal immigration were two striking issues for the DHS. To solve these issues, the Department of Homeland Security further created two immigration enforcement agencies: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in year 2003. The United States has over seven thousand miles of border to cover each day. The US shares its borders with Canada and Mexico. Through stories it is possible to learn about personal account about classrooms, schools, educational issues and the setting in which they work (Creswell, 2008, p. 511). This is a major concern to researchers, especially because they rely heavily on self reported information from participants (Creswell, 2008, p. 522). Based on my personal experience, two common reasons why people provide false data is to provide a happy conclusion, which makes people comfortable, or to victimize because they seek attention. Fortunately, researchers may use several techniques to address the issue of collecting false data. The techniques used include the collection of multiple field texts, the triangulation of data, and member checking (Creswell, 2008). These techniques are useful to review and assess the data collected through stories as false or reliable. On the one hand, multiple field texts provide data from various sources, triangulation, and member checking assist in confirming the data provided as well as the findings as per the interpretation of the researcher (Creswell, 2008). Even though gathering stories poses a threat to the study, these techniques are useful to the researcher as he or she ensures the validity of the research. The second issue in gathering stories traces back to the concern of whether or not the participants are able to tell the real story (Creswell, 2008). At times, presenting the real story is dangerous to the participant because of the degree of detail and information provided as part of the story. For example, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My dad has always supported me on all my decisions and he is alway reliable. Not only does my dad supports me on everything, he is also very understanding and humble. He has always been loving and patient, not only with me, but with the small town of Manton. He also goes out of his way to make others feel good before himself. It was the year of 2010, the sun was shining and the wind was slight. I was on my way home from school when my aunt Angie s phone started ringing. She was driving so she let my cousin Haley answer her phone. It was my dad, he was calling with the most life changing news I have ever heard. It was about my mom, she couldn t be found, no one has heard from her all day. My dad made me come home right away. The High Dynamic Range Compression Operator 4 METHODOLOGY HDR image given as an input with radiance map I^h, f (.) is the high dynamic range compression operator computes the radiance map in a low dynamic range I^l = f (I^h). An important goal of this method is to decrease the large radiance values and increase small ones. To correctly keep the local structures, however, the monotonic mapping of radiance should be satisfied regarding each pixel s neighborhood in a small local region, similar to the global tone mapping curves monotone characteristic. Firstly, generate guidance map c according to eq (4) which indicates the area of the input HDR image that should be enhanced or compressed, then divide input HDR image into windows or blocks. Secondly, compare guidance map values in each window with threshold value. Thirdly, determine if linear or nonlinear tone mapping method applied for selected window in image. Then, if we describe the window w_i with pixel i in the center, the linear function is: I^l (j)=p_i I^h (j)+q_i , j ∈w_i (1) A simple yet complete representation has been provided that satisfy the local monotonic constraint. The evaluation or comparison of optimization strategies is typified by Bancilhon and Ramakrishnan~cite{br1986,br1988} who develop analytical cost models for the optimization strategies when applied to four queries (related to the parent and ancestor relations) and then generate numerical data from the analytical models using synthetic data driven by three shapes tree, inverted tree, and cylinder for the ``family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... item A new genomics query benchmark framework is developed to help the evaluation of the efficiency and effectiveness of the graph database system with visual queries in a standard and systematic way. It consists of a genomics domain model, a benchmark database with the raw data sets based on the real world genome sequencing and annotation scenarios, a set of test queries and several performance metrics. The genomics benchmark database has five typical fungal species data that are of interest to the fungal genomics research community. item A visual query language is designed based on the existing visual metaphor of genome browsers. Its semantics via an algebra and translation to SQL3 are provided. It incorporates a type system for genomics data with a set of topological and logical operations. New operations can be designed using function composition based on the data model. The operations have equivalent translation to SQL3. The algebra provides the semantics for the visual query language and facilitate a visual query language implementation based on this algebra. A database architecture using a visual query language based on this algebra is proposed. end{itemize} section{Thesis Organization} The rest of this thesis is organized as follows. Chapter 2 illustrates the background knowledge that is related to this thesis work. Chapter 3 describes the implemented visual graph ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Redemption In Khaled Hosseini s The Kite Runner One of the most primary ways to achieve redemption is through the means of acceptance. At the same time, a majority of people who are not ready to accept their mistakes will either end up making another mistake or live their entire life in guilt. This situation can be observed in Khaled Hosseini s The Kite Runner when Amir attempts to achieve redemption by accusing Hassan for theft. Before Amir could accept his mistake, he attempts to redeem himself by intentionally tempting Hassan to fight back and speak up. However, this attempt backfires on Amir when Hassan and Ali decide to leave Baba s house after accepting and apologizing for Hassan s mistake. Therefore, acceptance plays a key role in redemption. Meanwhile, there are multiple variations of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While attempting to achieve redemption, Amir hurled the pomegranate at [Hassan]. It struck him in the chest, exploded in a spray of red pulp (Hosseini 92). This is important because the red pulp of the pomegranate that struck Hassan on the chest symbolizes blood and violence that is on Amir s mind. Thinking that Amir could achieve redemption by tempting Hassan to fight back, he decides to throw pomegranates at him until he eventually realizes that this approach would not work. Over time as Amir matures he continues his quest for a new approach. While searching for Sohrab, Amir engages into a fight with Assef; where after a very long time he surprisingly felt at peace. [He] laughed because [he] saw that, in some nook in the corner of [his] mind, [he] had been looking forward to this (Hosseini 303). This is ironic because while Amir used to fear Assef at the time when Hassan got raped, he now looks forward to this fight. The fear that caused Amir to betray Hassan, now allows Amir to achieve redemption. Ironically, through the means of violence, Amir successfully finally achieves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Pullman Strike Essay The Pullman Strike was a disturbing event in Illinois history. It occurred because of the way George Mortimer Pullman, founder and president of the Pullman Palace Car Company, treated his workers. Organized in 1867, the company manufactured sleeping cars and operated them under contract to the railroads The Pullman Palace Car Company, a manufacturer of railroad cars cut the already low wages of its workers by about 25 percent, but didn t introduce corresponding reductions in rents and other charges at Pullman s company town near Chicago, where most Pullman workers lived. In result of this many worked and their families faced starvation. A large section of workers tried to present their problems about low wages, poor living conditions, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the ARU was not technically involved in the Pullman workers decision to strike, union officials had been in Pullman and at the meeting at which the strike vote was taken, and Pullman workers undoubtedly believed that the ARU would back them. A great deal of sympathy existed in Chicago and elsewhere for the Pullman workers, who were seen as common men and women tyrannized by an abusive employer and landlord. One plan was to refuse to hitch Pullman cars to trains and to unhitch those that were already attached. Another idea was a boycott: ARU members would refuse to handle Pullman cars or any trains with Pullman cars until the railroads severed their ties with the Pullman Company. ARU members would refuse to handle Pullman cars or any trains with Pullman cars until the railroads severed their ties with the Pullman Company. As any success for a boycott would be the Switchmen who had joined the ARU in large numbers. The ARU s president, Eugene V. Debs, predicted that, once the switchmen refused to add or remove Pullman cars from trains, the railroads would fire them and try to replace them with nonunion workers, and that in turn would lead other union members to walk out in solidarity, thus bringing more and more trains to a ...
