The Character of Blanche DuBois in Tennessee Williams A...
Blanche, the main character in William s play A Streetcar Named Desire invokes many contrasting
emotions. To analyze one s emotions concerning Blanche is no easy task, to do so effectively one must
break the play into different parts and analyze them separately. The problem with Blanche is that she
presents a character so mixed up in her own motives and opinions that one never knows if it is really
her or an act she s putting on. The audience will find itself constantly readjusting its position towards
Blanche and the other characters as the play unfolds and we learn more about her story and the
reasons behind her inadequacies. Williams makes sure nothing is white or black but grey so that at
some moments in the play we struggle to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see how surprised she is that her sister lives in such place: They mustn t have understood what
number I wanted... and the story for the moment seems to be the typical tale of two sisters, one who
rebelled against her family and married a poor immigrant while the other was left with the decaying
family business. We soon learn that because of some terrible event she is desperate for affection, we
see this by the way she assaults Stella and talks non stop. She seems well educated and mentions Mr.
Edgar Allan Poe . We are vaguely surprised by her apparent taste for alcohol and see that No, one s my
limit is a lie as she has already had one while Stella was away, however this habit was not uncommon
in Southern women and we let it pass. Lying about her taste for alcohol can be considered fairly
understandable given the circumstances .We think at this point that she is, at least with her sister, quite
an open person so that when she talks of the apartment she does not hide her disappointment: What?
Two rooms, did you say? . She talks so fast and seems so nervous that we sense something is wrong,
Stella says: You seem a little bit nervous or overwrought or something. We think we have discovered
all her secrets when she blurts that Belle Reve is lost and sympathize with her since all her relations
are dead and she has lost the family house. However her paranoia about her looks and In bed with

Why Was Mexico So Much Poorer Than The United States
Why was Mexico so much poorer than the United States in the 1980s? Most economists would answer
this question by pointing to Mexico s boom and bust cycles, and the United States pattern of relatively
stable growth. These cycles occur in Mexico because of political instability and the fluctuation of
capital availability. This answer is not wrong, but it is incomplete. Behind economics and politics,
geography looms, tying political science and economics together. Geography, more than any other
factor, explains why the United States in the 1980s was so rich and Mexico was so poor. The United
States and Mexico together take up the majority of the habitable lands of North America. In 1763, the
Viceroyalty of New Spain controlled most of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The income disparity between them and the core then causes insurrections to arise. This makes the
maintenance of a professional standing army of a fairly substantial size necessary. It also means that in
times of political instability in the center, the areas around the core tend to either break away
temporarily (best case scenario) or become staging points for assaults on the core (worst case
scenario). The second weakness of the core lies in its elevation. As a result of its elevation, it is
difficult for Mexico to economically integrate with the rest of the world or even to create internal
economies of scale that connect the core to the surrounding states. For example, it was not until 1877
that the first rail line between Mexico City and its main port of Veracruz was completed. This means
that, although the Mexico City core will always be heavily populated, it is incapable of generating
large sums of capital. To the north, across the Chihuahua, Sonora, and Baja deserts, sit the fertile,
capital rich lands of Louisiana, California, and East Texas. Of these, Louisiana is the most promising,
as it is the single most valuable piece of territory on the planet. Part of what makes it so valuable is the
rain shadow effect created by the Rocky Mountains that separate

The Importance Of Transformational Leadership
A leader is an important aspect to have in nursing. Many times a manager and a leader are used
interchangeably but in fact there is a big difference between a manager and a leader. A manager has an
allocated position and has power over decisions as well as having specific responsibilities to carry out.
A leader might not have official power but the capability to inspire others and anyone can display
leadership skills. A nurse manager can be more effective if they have well rounded leadership qualities
which include motivation, accepting input from others, commitment to excellence, passion about their
work, clear vision, trustworthiness, respectfulness, accessibility, empathy, commitment to coaching
and developing their staff. Both managers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Positive inspiration has a progressive effect on staff nurses by uplifting the environment. This greatly
effects job satisfaction. Creating such a team is a very important nurse leader task that can drastically
impact staff self esteem, efficiency and staff preservation as well as improve patient care, quality and
safety. Clinical nurses and unit managers should foster a team approach that encourages shared
governance, ownership of practice, and the expression of ideas and opinions in unit councils and
committees (Linnen and Rowley, 2014). Nursing must have involvement and leadership from the staff.
Over time, lack of engagement from the team ends in decreased quality of care and staff turnover.
More emphasis should be seen on empowerment and work atmosphere suggestions. This greatly
influences staff retention. No team can deliver the best possible care for patients when morale is low,
nurses are burned out, and their voices and concerns are largely being ignored (Linnen and Rowley,

Analysis Of Hesiod s The Vase Essay
A) The excerpt from Hesiod s text illustrates different characters who serve a myriad of purposes.
There are 3 main characters in the text Zeus, Hephaestus and Hermes. Zeus orders the creation of the
first woman, Pandora, and commands Olympians to present Pandora with gifts. Hephaestus crafts
Pandora because of Zeus s orders. Hermes provided Pandora with a deceitful nature, (Hesiod) and
delivered her to Epimetheus. There are other characters with minor roles in the text. The most
important character is Zeus, because he was orchestrating the whole event. He assigned tasks to the
Olympians and all the other characters were just following his command.
B) The scene on the vase shows only a part of the woman present on the far right. Additionally, this
woman is wearing a crown. The person who is holding the hammer seems to be moving his arm
towards the woman. The person left of center is facing the man on the far left and it looks like they are
conversing. On the basis of Hesiod s text people depicted on this vase, from right to left, are Pandora,
Hephaestus, Hermes and Zeus. There are numerous attributes that allow the identification of these
characters. Pandora in Hesiod s text is being made using mud, which might answer why only a part of
the woman is shown on the vase. Furthermore, the woman depicted on the vase is wearing a crown
and Hesiod s text mentions crowned her (Pandora) head with spring flowers, (Hesiod) these two
things allow me to identify this woman as

The Shot Boundary And Classification Of Digital Video Essay
Shot boundary and classification of digital video is most important step for effective management and
retrieval of video data. Shot transitions include abrupt changes and gradual changes. Recent automated
techniques for detecting transitions between shots are highly effective on abrupt transitions. But
finding gradual transition is major challenge in the presence of camera and object motion. In this
paper, different shot boundary detection technique has studied. The main focused on to differentiated
motion from various video effects noise, illumination changes, gradual transition, and abrupt
transition. Specially, the paper focuses on dissolve detection in the presence of camera and object

I.INTRODUCTION: The advances in the data capturing, storage, and communication technologies
have made vast amounts of video data available to consumer and enterprise applications [1]. However,
interacting with multimedia data, and video in particular, requires more than connecting with data
banks and delivering data via networks to customers, homes or offices. We still have limited tools and
applications to describe, organize, and manage video data. The fundamental approach is to index
video data and make it a structured media. Manually generating video content description is time
consuming and thus more costly to the point that it s almost impossible. This is because of the
structure of video data,

The Role Of Leptin And Its Effects On The Reproductive...
Role of leptin in PCOS. Leptin is a hormone secreted mainly from the adipose tissue, serum levels of
which are influenced by obesity, insulin resistance and the levels of sex steroids (androgens and
estrogens) and insulin. It is mainly involved in the regulation of body weight by decreasing appetite
and increasing energy expenditure. Besides regulating the energy metabolism of the body, leptin has
important actions on the reproductive system, which makes it an important link between the adipose
tissue and hypothalamus pituitary gonadal (HPG) axis (2). Long term hyperinsulinemia in humans, as
is the case in PCOS patients, stimulates leptin secretion from adipose tissue (9). Significantly higher
leptin (P = 0.0028), and insulin concentrations, insulin: glucose ratio (IGR), and a significant
correlation between leptin and fasting insulin concentrations, IGR, WHR and LH have been reported
in obese PCOS women than in normal weight women with PCOS. There is a significant negative
correlation between leptin and LH concentrations, independently of either BMI or IGR, suggesting a
possible involvement of leptin in LH hypersecretion (10). Estrogens increase, whereas androgens
suppress leptin production, suggesting sexual dimorphism in leptin levels (2).
The direct and indirect effects of leptin on the HPG axis, such as acceleration of GnRH pulsatility (but
not the pulse amplitude) in a dose dependent manner, suggest that leptin may play an important role in
the pathogenesis of PCOS.

opportunity for this research paper writing. I would also like to thank all those who have directly or
indirectly contributed to the information cited in this academic research paper. CPM : Critical path
method LoB : Line of Balance LBMS : Location based management system INTRODUCTION Most
of the construction projects are planned and managed using Critical Path Method scheduling technique
(CPM). This is evident in the research done by Tavakoli and Riachi in 1990, in which they surveyed
400 contractors regarding usage of Critical path method approach in scheduling. During the study they
found that very high percentages (93%) of the construction companies were using CPM for their
construction projects. This reflected that the industry is pleased with the traditional approach (CPM)
for plan and management of their projects. However, in a survey conducted by the members of the
Associated General Contractors of America identified that the scheduling technology of CPM is vital
area which required improvements. However, if we compare CPM with LoB, a lot of researchers have
also identified that there are lot of essential advantages

Rhetorical Analysis Paper Three
This semester, I am taking Intro to Sociology and we have been looking at different perspectives of
our society. One thing we are studying is how from at such a young age, we are taught to assign
gender roles. In Patricia J. Williams magazine article, Are We Worried about Storm s Identity or Our
Own , an essay taken out of the Nation magazine (June 2011), she tells a story about Storm, whose
parents choose not to reveal the sex of their baby. She is a legal scholar and examines issues related to
law and culture. Williams focuses on all the stereotypes that we associate with gender, how we as a
society find social order in assigning gender roles, and the need to have the proper pronouns so that
we know how/what to label a person. The author s use of ethos and logos really brings the point home
that we need to be more open about all the possibilities associated with gender and pronouns. In the
beginning of her essay, Williams use of ethos makes the reader question as to why we have to
associate certain words with boys and girls. She wants us to feel her

Definition Of White Collar Crime
White Collar Crime was first defined by Edwin Sutherland in 1939, as a crime committed by a person
of respectability and of high social status in the course of his occupation. This definition has been
further explored, refined and redefined by several successors in various fields. His definition was
offender based (and crime based) and gave theorists a way to label offenses committed by the wealthy
and successful who have high status and part of an elite collective group. However, this definition
focuses heavily on the characteristics of the offender (such as one s high social status) and or the
characteristics of the crime (crimes carried out within the scope of offender s employment).

an individual s actions. For a crisis of this magnitude to occur it would require misconduct from a
large collective of individuals. It would be difficult to find these individuals and prove that they had

It makes sense to give people a glimpse into the animal world once in awhile, maybe even in hope to
slow down the risk of endangerment. What doesn t make sense and is not in any way reasonable are
the use of circus animals. The reason circus animals came to be is that zookeepers realized what a
drive people have to see exotic animals. They realized how much money people would pay just to see
an exotic animal in a cage, then imagined what they could earn by making them perform. What people
need to realize when they buy their tickets to the show is that these animals are not in any way meant

How Different Temperatures Effect The Cell Membrane Of A...
How different temperatures effect the cell membrane of a beetroot
Hypothesis: The more betalain is leaked when the membrane is in higher temperatures
Abstract:
The experiment which was conducted was to identify the effects of temperature of the beetroot discs.
Majority of the pigment from the beetroot is found within the vacuole which is called anthocyanin and
each of the vacuole is surrounded by a tonoplast membrane. Externally the cytoplasm is surrounded
by the plasma membrane hence the foundation of the experiment depends on the temperature which
will rapture the membrane and lead to a leakage of the pigment. The experiment consists of several
different temperatures and same sized beetroot discs, the beetroot discs will be placed in 3 sets of discs
in a tube test tube which will be placed in the distilled water in same test tube. Using a colorimeter
once the beetroot have been exposed to the temperatures the colour of the distilled water will change
therefore leaving a coloured water to be measured by a colorimeter, this is because the colorimeter
measures the light being passed through the solution.
Introduction:
The experiment is conducted to find out how the membrane is affected by different temperatures.
Betalain pigment increases with high temperatures because most mammalian proteins denature and
tertiary structure unravels because the strong covalent bonds between the R groups of amino acids in
the polypeptide chains are destroyed at temperatures over 45°C.

During the development of archaeology, various different kinds of scientific techniques have been

Encyclopaedia Britannica also states that it is proved to be a versatile technique of dating fossils and
archaeological specimens from 500 to 50,000 years old (1998). This method of age determination is
dependent upon the decay of nitrogen and radiocarbon (Carbon 14) (Encyclopaediea Britannica, 1998;
Opinions of Radiocarbon Dating, 2011). Carbon 14 is continually formed in nature by the interaction
of neutrons with nitrogen 14 in the Earth s atmosphere (Encyclopaediea Britannica, 1998; Opinions of
Radiocarbon Dating, 2011) and all living things exchange the gas carbon 14 with the atmosphere
surrounding them. The amount of carbon 14 exchanged into the living organism is perfectly balanced
with its surroundings, but when an organism dies, they stop taking in the gas and that equilibrium is
damaged. Because Carbon 14 slowly decays at a known rate called its half life in a dead organism,
scientists can figure out how long ago it had stopped exchanging carbon with its atmosphere. Thus, its
age can be determined by measuring the amount of Carbon 14 in a sample (Hirst, 2017; Opinions of
Radiocarbon Dating, 2017; Oxford Radiocarbon Accelerator Unit Research Laboratory for
Archaeology, n.d.; Earthsky, 2017; Cram, 1993). With the utilisation of Radiocarbon Dating, scientists
have been able to discover that Lindow

Romanov Dynasty Essay
The Romanov Dynasty held the Russian Empire as one of the most powerful European states for over
three centuries. In 1917, during Nicholas II s opposed reign, a revolution began that transformed the
empire into the first ever communist nation, replacing the infamous autocratic rule and introducing the
Union of Soviet Socialist Republic. The First World War acted as a catalyst for change and
exacerbated any existing grievances to the point at which they overpowered all loyalty to the Tsar and
destroyed the monarchy. The war brought many of Russia s underlying social, political, economic, and
military problems into sharp focus which were destructive forces leading to the downfall of the
Russian dynasty. On a military scale Russia was no match ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The diversion of resources to the war effort caused severe problems for the civilian population of
Russia. The loss of agricultural workers and horses to the army, alongside the takeover of railway lines
by the army lead to drastic shortages of food in towns and cities due to poor internal communications.
Due to the limited resources it was difficult for those peasants who hadn t joined the army to sustain
agricultural output. The lack of workers and resources in the rural areas put a strain on the already
backwards Russian agricultural system. For example Moscow, in 1914, had received 2200 railway
wagons of grain per month, but by Christmas of 1916 this was limited to only 300 wagons. Inadequate
transport saw the already limited city food supplies left rotting at rural railway stations. Due to the
limited supply of food, rationing was taking place, under which each person was entitled to a mere
50g of bread per day. The main priority was to supply the soldiers with food and this took precedence
over food supply of the cities. The lack of food triggered agitation in the society, and caused the
people to take part in strikes and demonstrations in Petrograd, which led to the abdication of the Tsar.
Living standards were on the decline. The rapid industrial growth during war caused problems as it
enlarged the working class and drew labourers from the countryside, putting strain on antiquated
urban infrastructure and overstretching

Comparison Of Two Occupations, Social Work And Skills,...
Compare and Contrast Two Occupations
Final Interview Paper
Occupations require a myriad of skills, training, and requirements. The personality and talents of
individuals can guide them into their choosing a profession. For example, someone who is an
accountant may prefer little interaction with others and for information to be very precise in every
situation. Compare that to a therapist whom interacts with people daily and no two situations are the
same or precise. I am going to compare two professions, Social Work versus Information Technology,
to explore the similarities and differences in these two occupations.
Social Worker
Social Work is defined as, The professional activity of helping individuals, groups, or communities
enhance or restore their capacity for social functional and creating societal conditions favorable to this
goal. Social work practice consists of the professional application of social work values, principles,

Character Analysis Of Calvin And Hobbes
Calvin and Hobbes is a humorous newspaper comic strip developed by the American cartoonist Bill
Watterson. The comic follows the everyday life of an impish six year old by the name of Calvin and
the adventures he has with his best friend and stuffed tiger, Hobbes (Watterson, Characters ).
Watterson explores ideas of childhood innocence and imagination from the perspective of Calvin and
his interactions with the characters around him. The underlying message is that it is okay to be
different and ask questions because the opinion of the majority is not always correct. Watterson
portrays this message through Calvin by having him point out when adults are being unreasonable and
asking questions. The comic does an excellent job of achieving its intended purpose of engaging
readers while urging them to question the world around them.
The storyline of Calvin and Hobbes revolves around the daily life of Calvin and the relationships that
he has with other characters. The bulk of the comic features commentary by Calvin in relation to the
observations he makes on the world around him. Hobbes usually replies to Calvin sarcastically, but
still humors his criticisms. Calvin s parents and peers are usually annoyed by his comments, but
Calvin stands by his opinions and stays true to himself. Calvin s active imagination leads him to create
his own idea of entertainment. This is especially apparent in Calvin s view of Hobbes. Calvin
perceives Hobbes as a living tiger of which takes on

American Identity In Anna Quindlen s A Quilt Of A Country
In the story s A Quilt of a Country, The Immigrant Contribution, and American History all explore on
American Identity in some ways. An American identity to me is being what you want to be and being
however you want to be. These stories although different, all show what a American identity means.
The idea of American identity has changed over time. One of my own experiences with this was the
Boston bombing on April 15, 2013.The Boston bombing changed my identity and how I think today.
The author of A Quilt of a Country by Anna Quindlen show American identity in a lot of ways. One
way the ways Quindlen shows american identity is how after the 9/11 terrorist attack, Americans hold
on together even though all different, like a quilt. Also the author touches on how different we are as a
country and how that s not a bad thing at all. A famous quote from the story by Daniel Boorstin is Of

Kennedy. American identity is shown in the story by talking about how immigrants shape our country
in many ways. Immigrants help our country by spreading their culture in things like food, songs, games
etc.. Another way the story shows American identity is America is a country of all different people and
all different cultures which helped shape this county. The story The Immigrant Contribution shows
American identity in a lot of ways. Another good example of American identity is shown in the story
American History by Judith Ortiz Cofer. This story shows American identity by how Alenas and
everyone else reacts to President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. This showed that people really
look up to the president and care about him. Although everyone in America was sad they held on
together as one country like in the story A Quilt of a Country by Anna Quindlen. This story is another

Refugee Literacy Program Analysis
As an avid volunteer with the Westminster Economic Development Initiative s ENERGY refugee
literacy program, I have worked with elementary to middle school aged children hailing from
countries including Burma, Somalia, and Thailand in my community. Despite their young age, each
child demonstrates the importance of fostering diversity in faith and culture with a level of maturity
that rivals that of many adults, while exhibiting the exuberance and innocence of typical children.
Thus, when Sisi, a seven year old ENERGY student, received her leukemia diagnosis, the news
devastated our community. It was unfathomable that such a young girl should have to deal with a level
of hardship that many will never encounter in their lifetime; even more

The Real Slumdog s Documentary
a. Globalization/pg. 29: The growing interconnections among nations due to the expansion of
capitalism
The Real Slumdog s documentary was very interesting and eye opening. The amount of businesses
that are run in the one square mile area of Dharavi affect the entire capitalism of the world. Look at it
this way, the Slumdog s as they re called make crappy money to make some very intricate products.
These products will be shipped from Mumbai to the rest of the world eventually. As the products are
marked up by middle men, the money does not filter its way back to the Dharavi slum. Thus, the
products might be ten dollars in a store, but initially the slum workers get paid barely anything and do
not get to see the profit that they could. These people work to survive. Mumbai is a very intricate and
bustling city, and has a large amount of money and products moved through it each day. In the inner
city though, it is not as cheap to make the products. There also are not the massive amounts of laborers
that are found in Dharavi. Moving away from product production we can look at the dumps of
Dharavi. A large amount of the trash from the inner city is sent to the slum to be processed. The
workers that sort through the trash are called rag pickers. The rag pickers make very little money for
what they do, but the work that they do is very important. They separate the waste into different
categories to be processed and recycled accordingly. They separate the metals from plastics, and

The Genius by Frank O’Connor Essay
The Genius by Frank O Connor
The boy s personality and his intelligence are swiftly established in the opening paragraph. His mother
is presented as being a strong influence on him and appears as a kind of ally against the rough children
savages as she describes them that live and play in the area. It is clear that she encourages him to
regard himself as
different and separate from them, but it is equally obvious that he is not anxious to associate with them
anyway. He describes himself as
a cissy by conviction and says that he regarded the idea of fighting as both unattractive and dangerous
. He avoids rough games and prefers the company of girls to boys only because they don t fight so
much . Religion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the story is supposedly written from the point of view of the boy himself, the tongue in
cheek humour is extremely adult. The adult writer describes how the boy s desire to become an
explorer is expressed through his journeys that take him a whole mile from his home, the findings of
which are recorded in a book called by the very grand title of The Voyages of Johnson Martin !
Similarly, the adult writer communicates much more sympathy with the long suffering father who
stares moodily at the son whose behaviour and whose interests he does not understand than he does
with the little boy who takes himself so very seriously and is determined to be a proper genius . In
fact, the writer gently mocks the boy s very elevated opinion of himself by repeatedly referring to him
as a genius . Thus, if the story is autobiographical, he is laughing at the serious and pretentious child
he used to be.
The incident of the lame leg is a particularly interesting one because the writer uses it as a means of
presenting the relationships that exist between the boy and both his mother and his father. The
Greek word Oedipus means swollen foot and, in Greek mythology,
Oedipus was a Greek prince who married his mother and murdered his father. The strong attachment
of a son to his mother combined with unconscious feelings of

A Leader Within A Sport Organization
Consider the discussion of various sources of power as related to leadership. Provide a discussion of
how a leader within a sport organization (be sure to identify this leader) uses those sources of power
when exercising leadership behavior.
Sport Leadership in the 21st Century discussed the theory of leadership and the sources of powers that
leaders tend to use in order to have influence over a group or individual and provides the ability to
change another person s behavior, actions, or attitude (5). The sources of power that are mentioned in
the reading are: Reward Power, Coercive Power, Legitimate Power, Referent Power, Expert Power,
and Informational Power.
A leader in a sport organization that I feel showcases all the sources of power would be the President
of the New York Knicks, Phil Jackson. Whether he was in the position of a player, coach, or
administration, he showcased his leadership traits. While showcasing his leadership skills, the sources
of power were evident. Reward power is the condition in which a leader has the ability or authority to
reward their followers. As President of the team, he completely has the ability to reward people. For
example, when hiring Derek Fisher to coach the Knicks, his contract came equipped with incentives
and bonuses. Although those incentives aren t common knowledge, one could assume that Fisher
would receive a bonus if the Knicks were to win a certain amount of games or advanced to a certain
round in the playoffs. Along with

How Does Holden Mature
The gap from childhood and adulthood is far apart. It is difficult for a person to transition from one to
another because it is a long process of maturing and accepting that being a child is over. In The
Catcher in the Rye Holden Caulfield is struggling with his transition to adulthood, in fact he doesn t
want to mature because the adult life is something he is completely terrified of. JD Salinger cleverly
writes an astonishingly novel with the theme of maturity and the struggles of a teenager by using
many literary and rhetorical devices. Early in the novel, Salinger shows that Holden is struggling with
his emotions. Holden would like to still act as a child by [throwing] snow ( Salinger 36) at a hydrant
but his mature side of him told him not to. In fact, Salinger uses juxta position to further emphasize
how Holden contradicts himself because at first he wanted to throw it but he never did. This is
powerful because it represents human beings vividly. People trend to always think twice about ...

once again he tries to cover it up. He does this by putting on the red hunting hat. The red hunting hat is

shows his infamous red hat. Everytime he is going to experience something new and adventurous he

Women s Influence On Society Essay
In today s society, there is often a misconception among women and men and the roles they are
expected to follow through with. Although there has been advances in the way women are treated, it is
unfortunately still an unbalanced dynamic in our society. From an early age, women are often
persuaded, even if subconsciously, to follow a certain pathway in life. They are most often associated
with staying home, keeping the house clean, cooking, baking, and raising children. Certain mediums
that girls are exposed to tend to sway them towards these specific wants and aspirations. The way in
which certain products are presented to little girls create an image they feel like they need to master.
Men, on the other hand, are taught something completely different. They are regularly habituated with
more masculine and self reliant tasks. From an early age, they are automatically seen as people that
deserve to be educated and use their smart, resourceful assets to contribute to society. They are
without a doubt going to get a job and become a father and husband that provides for his family. In
most situations, even if the woman has a job, men are the main bread winner. Going along with this
belief, the products boys are often marketed portray the idea of strength and independence. Whether it
is a toy or a book, men are more often than not characterized as the heroic, more capable gender.
There are many cases in which different mediums exhibit the ideas of men being the superior

Essay On Wound Drainage
The orthopedic literature has a long history of investigating the use of postoperative wound drains
(Cobb, 1990). In total joint arthroplasty, wound drains were associated with increased rates of
transfusion (Hallstrom and Steele, 1992; Quinn et al., 2015) but not a decrease in the rate of wound
complications. A systematic review of the orthopedic literature comparing closed suction drainage
systems with no drainage system for all types of elective and emergency orthopedic surgery found that
there is insufficient evidence from randomized trials to support the routine use of wound drains in
orthopedic surgery (Parker et al., 2007). Similarly, a meta analysis of randomized controlled trials of
wound drainage after hip fracture surgery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They found that the group without drains developed epidural fluid collection by MRI detection at a
much higher rate of 89% compared to the drain group at 36% (Mirzai et al., 2006). Their data
suggested that drains could help clear excess fluid from the surgical site and adjacent spaces.
However, they did not observe a difference in clinical outcomes between groups. A meta analysis of
seven studies of postoperative suction drain use after posterior spine surgery included 2,098 patients
and found that drains did not influence healing rates and or infection (Andrew Glennie et al., 2015).
The relationship between surgical drains and hematoma prevention could not be established. Similarly,
another recent meta analysis failed to demonstrate an association between surgical site drains and
decreased odds of hematoma and infection (Waly et al., 2015). While the benefit of surgical site drains
in the lumbar spine remains to be demonstrated, the benefit of surgical site drains in the cervical spine
remains an unanswered question.
The study of surgical site drains in the posterior cervical spine is limited. Payhs et al. suggested
surgical site drains in the posterior cervical spine in combination with alcohol foam or vancomycin
powder are associated with reduced odds of surgical site infection among patients undergoing any
posterior cervical spine surgery (Pahys et al., 2013). Our data regarding

Araby Coming Of Age Examples
Coming of age stories are an important subset of English literature. Araby and The Ball Poem are both
examples of such pieces. They both depict disappointment or loss in the main characters lives, as well
as the recognition that a replacement is something less than the original. In addition to this, they show
the characters thoughts changing in tone after a moment of significance in the plot. Araby in particular
shows a change in the main character due to it being a short story rather than a poem, and having more
time to develop the characterization.
In The Ball Poem, the child, the initial subject of the poem, loses his ball and watches it bounce all the
way down into the harbor, beyond recovery. After this, the speaker tells how the boy, senses first

Often, the event of growing up is represented as a series of events and experiences, culminating in the
realization that one is a child no longer. However, some forms of literature, due to length restrictions,
are unable to show the process in full, and so will describe the initiating event, which it is assumed
will eventually lead to the subject maturing over time. One example of this is the poem The Ball
Poem, by John Berryman; do to its relatively short length, Berryman told of the loss of the ball, which
was a metaphor for innocence and childhood, and how the child would now have to learn to deal with
the loss and keep going. Araby, in comparison, is a longer text, though still a short story, and as such is
not constrained by the same length restrictions. The main character s coming of age is, as such, shown
over several events, although they are still in a very short time span when compared to a full life of

Essay On Teacher Observation
The art of teaching is a difficult to define. The evaluation tools used by school administrators must be
counted upon to do just that, define what an excellent teacher looks like and does. Danielson (2010)
says that teaching describes not only the teaching that occurs in the classroom but also the behind the
scenes work of planning and other professional work, such as communicating with families and
participating in a professional community. The Framework for Teaching encompasses all of these
aspects and more within the teacher evaluation process.
Administrators should enter a teacher s classroom with the idea that the teacher is a terrific teacher.
Preconceived optimistic feelings are essential because the administrator wants to build on the positive
aspects of their teaching ability. Nonetheless, it is also important to keep in mind that every teacher
can improve in some area. The administrator s goal for observations should be to build a relationship
with each member of the faculty so that offers of advice and ideas on how to improve in areas where
refinement is needed can be given in a way that is comfortable for both parties. I chose to observe
someone that teaches in close proximity to me, both personally and physically. This teacher, who will
in this report called Ms. Merry, has been teaching for over 20 years and has looped this year with her
class from the first grade into the second grade. When I first requested to complete the observation

  • 2. The Character of Blanche DuBois in Tennessee Williams A... Blanche, the main character in William s play A Streetcar Named Desire invokes many contrasting emotions. To analyze one s emotions concerning Blanche is no easy task, to do so effectively one must break the play into different parts and analyze them separately. The problem with Blanche is that she presents a character so mixed up in her own motives and opinions that one never knows if it is really her or an act she s putting on. The audience will find itself constantly readjusting its position towards Blanche and the other characters as the play unfolds and we learn more about her story and the reasons behind her inadequacies. Williams makes sure nothing is white or black but grey so that at some moments in the play we struggle to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We see how surprised she is that her sister lives in such place: They mustn t have understood what number I wanted... and the story for the moment seems to be the typical tale of two sisters, one who rebelled against her family and married a poor immigrant while the other was left with the decaying family business. We soon learn that because of some terrible event she is desperate for affection, we see this by the way she assaults Stella and talks non stop. She seems well educated and mentions Mr. Edgar Allan Poe . We are vaguely surprised by her apparent taste for alcohol and see that No, one s my limit is a lie as she has already had one while Stella was away, however this habit was not uncommon in Southern women and we let it pass. Lying about her taste for alcohol can be considered fairly understandable given the circumstances .We think at this point that she is, at least with her sister, quite an open person so that when she talks of the apartment she does not hide her disappointment: What? Two rooms, did you say? . She talks so fast and seems so nervous that we sense something is wrong, Stella says: You seem a little bit nervous or overwrought or something. We think we have discovered all her secrets when she blurts that Belle Reve is lost and sympathize with her since all her relations are dead and she has lost the family house. However her paranoia about her looks and In bed with your Polak! seem to indicate some deeper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Why Was Mexico So Much Poorer Than The United States Why was Mexico so much poorer than the United States in the 1980s? Most economists would answer this question by pointing to Mexico s boom and bust cycles, and the United States pattern of relatively stable growth. These cycles occur in Mexico because of political instability and the fluctuation of capital availability. This answer is not wrong, but it is incomplete. Behind economics and politics, geography looms, tying political science and economics together. Geography, more than any other factor, explains why the United States in the 1980s was so rich and Mexico was so poor. The United States and Mexico together take up the majority of the habitable lands of North America. In 1763, the Viceroyalty of New Spain controlled most of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The income disparity between them and the core then causes insurrections to arise. This makes the maintenance of a professional standing army of a fairly substantial size necessary. It also means that in times of political instability in the center, the areas around the core tend to either break away temporarily (best case scenario) or become staging points for assaults on the core (worst case scenario). The second weakness of the core lies in its elevation. As a result of its elevation, it is difficult for Mexico to economically integrate with the rest of the world or even to create internal economies of scale that connect the core to the surrounding states. For example, it was not until 1877 that the first rail line between Mexico City and its main port of Veracruz was completed. This means that, although the Mexico City core will always be heavily populated, it is incapable of generating large sums of capital. To the north, across the Chihuahua, Sonora, and Baja deserts, sit the fertile, capital rich lands of Louisiana, California, and East Texas. Of these, Louisiana is the most promising, as it is the single most valuable piece of territory on the planet. Part of what makes it so valuable is the rain shadow effect created by the Rocky Mountains that separate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Importance Of Transformational Leadership A leader is an important aspect to have in nursing. Many times a manager and a leader are used interchangeably but in fact there is a big difference between a manager and a leader. A manager has an allocated position and has power over decisions as well as having specific responsibilities to carry out. A leader might not have official power but the capability to inspire others and anyone can display leadership skills. A nurse manager can be more effective if they have well rounded leadership qualities which include motivation, accepting input from others, commitment to excellence, passion about their work, clear vision, trustworthiness, respectfulness, accessibility, empathy, commitment to coaching and developing their staff. Creating such a team is a very important nurse leader task that can drastically impact staff self esteem, efficiency and staff preservation as well as improve patient care, quality and safety. Clinical nurses and unit managers should foster a team approach that encourages shared governance, ownership of practice, and the expression of ideas and opinions in unit councils and committees (Linnen and Rowley, 2014). Nursing must have involvement and leadership from the staff. Over time, lack of engagement from the team ends in decreased quality of care and staff turnover. More emphasis should be seen on empowerment and work atmosphere suggestions. This greatly influences staff retention. No team can deliver the best possible care for patients when morale is low, nurses are burned out, and their voices and concerns are largely being ignored (Linnen and Rowley, ... • 5. Analysis Of Hesiod s The Vase Essay A) The excerpt from Hesiod s text illustrates different characters who serve a myriad of purposes. There are 3 main characters in the text Zeus, Hephaestus and Hermes. Zeus orders the creation of the first woman, Pandora, and commands Olympians to present Pandora with gifts. Hephaestus crafts Pandora because of Zeus s orders. Hermes provided Pandora with a deceitful nature, (Hesiod) and delivered her to Epimetheus. There are other characters with minor roles in the text. The most important character is Zeus, because he was orchestrating the whole event. He assigned tasks to the Olympians and all the other characters were just following his command. B) The scene on the vase shows only a part of the woman present on the far right. Additionally, this woman is wearing a crown. The person who is holding the hammer seems to be moving his arm towards the woman. The person left of center is facing the man on the far left and it looks like they are conversing. On the basis of Hesiod s text people depicted on this vase, from right to left, are Pandora, Hephaestus, Hermes and Zeus. There are numerous attributes that allow the identification of these characters. Pandora in Hesiod s text is being made using mud, which might answer why only a part of the woman is shown on the vase. Furthermore, the woman depicted on the vase is wearing a crown and Hesiod s text mentions crowned her (Pandora) head with spring flowers, (Hesiod) these two things allow me to identify this woman as ... However, interacting with multimedia data, and video in particular, requires more than connecting with data banks and delivering data via networks to customers, homes or offices. We still have limited tools and applications to describe, organize, and manage video data. The fundamental approach is to index video data and make it a structured media. Manually generating video content description is time consuming and thus more costly to the point that it s almost impossible. This is because of the structure of video data, ... • 7. The Role Of Leptin And Its Effects On The Reproductive... Role of leptin in PCOS. Leptin is a hormone secreted mainly from the adipose tissue, serum levels of which are influenced by obesity, insulin resistance and the levels of sex steroids (androgens and estrogens) and insulin. It is mainly involved in the regulation of body weight by decreasing appetite and increasing energy expenditure. Besides regulating the energy metabolism of the body, leptin has important actions on the reproductive system, which makes it an important link between the adipose tissue and hypothalamus pituitary gonadal (HPG) axis (2). Long term hyperinsulinemia in humans, as is the case in PCOS patients, stimulates leptin secretion from adipose tissue (9). Significantly higher leptin (P = 0.0028), and insulin concentrations, insulin: glucose ratio (IGR), and a significant correlation between leptin and fasting insulin concentrations, IGR, WHR and LH have been reported in obese PCOS women than in normal weight women with PCOS. There is a significant negative correlation between leptin and LH concentrations, independently of either BMI or IGR, suggesting a possible involvement of leptin in LH hypersecretion (10). Estrogens increase, whereas androgens suppress leptin production, suggesting sexual dimorphism in leptin levels (2). The direct and indirect effects of leptin on the HPG axis, such as acceleration of GnRH pulsatility (but not the pulse amplitude) in a dose dependent manner, suggest that leptin may play an important role in the pathogenesis of PCOS. ... CPM : Critical path method LoB : Line of Balance LBMS : Location based management system INTRODUCTION Most of the construction projects are planned and managed using Critical Path Method scheduling technique (CPM). This is evident in the research done by Tavakoli and Riachi in 1990, in which they surveyed 400 contractors regarding usage of Critical path method approach in scheduling. During the study they found that very high percentages (93%) of the construction companies were using CPM for their construction projects. This reflected that the industry is pleased with the traditional approach (CPM) for plan and management of their projects. However, in a survey conducted by the members of the Associated General Contractors of America identified that the scheduling technology of CPM is vital area which required improvements. Rhetorical Analysis Paper Three This semester, I am taking Intro to Sociology and we have been looking at different perspectives of our society. One thing we are studying is how from at such a young age, we are taught to assign gender roles. In Patricia J. Williams magazine article, Are We Worried about Storm s Identity or Our Own , an essay taken out of the Nation magazine (June 2011), she tells a story about Storm, whose parents choose not to reveal the sex of their baby. She is a legal scholar and examines issues related to law and culture. Williams focuses on all the stereotypes that we associate with gender, how we as a society find social order in assigning gender roles, and the need to have the proper pronouns so that we know how/what to label a person. The author s use of ethos and logos really brings the point home that we need to be more open about all the possibilities associated with gender and pronouns. In the beginning of her essay, Williams use of ethos makes the reader question as to why we have to associate certain words with boys and girls. She wants us to feel her Reed 2 frustration of why children need to have labels put on them at such a young age. Why can t kids just be kids? The story is, her son and his little girl friend were performing the same task at school, but her son was described as a sturdy little security guard, while the little girl was described as our mini hostess with the mostest. This definition has been further explored, refined and redefined by several successors in various fields. His definition was offender based (and crime based) and gave theorists a way to label offenses committed by the wealthy and successful who have high status and part of an elite collective group. However, this definition focuses heavily on the characteristics of the offender (such as one s high social status) and or the characteristics of the crime (crimes carried out within the scope of offender s employment). For a crisis of this magnitude to occur it would require misconduct from a large collective of individuals. It would be difficult to find these individuals and prove that they had criminal intent. Strain theory can be applied in this case, as it states that certain stressors increase the likelihood of crime. Working for large organisations, can involve a large number of stressors, that can cause a large amount of stress and frustration. • 17. How Different Temperatures Effect The Cell Membrane Of A... How different temperatures effect the cell membrane of a beetroot Hypothesis: The more betalain is leaked when the membrane is in higher temperatures Abstract: The experiment which was conducted was to identify the effects of temperature of the beetroot discs. Majority of the pigment from the beetroot is found within the vacuole which is called anthocyanin and each of the vacuole is surrounded by a tonoplast membrane. Externally the cytoplasm is surrounded by the plasma membrane hence the foundation of the experiment depends on the temperature which will rapture the membrane and lead to a leakage of the pigment. The experiment consists of several different temperatures and same sized beetroot discs, the beetroot discs will be placed in 3 sets of discs in a tube test tube which will be placed in the distilled water in same test tube. Using a colorimeter once the beetroot have been exposed to the temperatures the colour of the distilled water will change therefore leaving a coloured water to be measured by a colorimeter, this is because the colorimeter measures the light being passed through the solution. Introduction: The experiment is conducted to find out how the membrane is affected by different temperatures. Betalain pigment increases with high temperatures because most mammalian proteins denature and tertiary structure unravels because the strong covalent bonds between the R groups of amino acids in the polypeptide chains are destroyed at temperatures over 45°C. ... Encyclopaedia Britannica also states that it is proved to be a versatile technique of dating fossils and archaeological specimens from 500 to 50,000 years old (1998). This method of age determination is dependent upon the decay of nitrogen and radiocarbon (Carbon 14) (Encyclopaediea Britannica, 1998; Opinions of Radiocarbon Dating, 2011). Carbon 14 is continually formed in nature by the interaction of neutrons with nitrogen 14 in the Earth s atmosphere (Encyclopaediea Britannica, 1998; Opinions of Radiocarbon Dating, 2011) and all living things exchange the gas carbon 14 with the atmosphere surrounding them. The amount of carbon 14 exchanged into the living organism is perfectly balanced with its surroundings, but when an organism dies, they stop taking in the gas and that equilibrium is damaged. Because Carbon 14 slowly decays at a known rate called its half life in a dead organism, scientists can figure out how long ago it had stopped exchanging carbon with its atmosphere. Thus, its age can be determined by measuring the amount of Carbon 14 in a sample (Hirst, 2017; Opinions of Radiocarbon Dating, 2017; Oxford Radiocarbon Accelerator Unit Research Laboratory for Archaeology, n.d.; Earthsky, 2017; Cram, 1993). In 1917, during Nicholas II s opposed reign, a revolution began that transformed the empire into the first ever communist nation, replacing the infamous autocratic rule and introducing the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic. The First World War acted as a catalyst for change and exacerbated any existing grievances to the point at which they overpowered all loyalty to the Tsar and destroyed the monarchy. The loss of agricultural workers and horses to the army, alongside the takeover of railway lines by the army lead to drastic shortages of food in towns and cities due to poor internal communications. Due to the limited resources it was difficult for those peasants who hadn t joined the army to sustain agricultural output. The lack of workers and resources in the rural areas put a strain on the already backwards Russian agricultural system. For example Moscow, in 1914, had received 2200 railway wagons of grain per month, but by Christmas of 1916 this was limited to only 300 wagons. Inadequate transport saw the already limited city food supplies left rotting at rural railway stations. Due to the limited supply of food, rationing was taking place, under which each person was entitled to a mere 50g of bread per day. The main priority was to supply the soldiers with food and this took precedence over food supply of the cities. The lack of food triggered agitation in the society, and caused the people to take part in strikes and demonstrations in Petrograd, which led to the abdication of the Tsar. Living standards were on the decline. The comic does an excellent job of achieving its intended purpose of engaging readers while urging them to question the world around them. The storyline of Calvin and Hobbes revolves around the daily life of Calvin and the relationships that he has with other characters. Look at it this way, the Slumdog s as they re called make crappy money to make some very intricate products. These products will be shipped from Mumbai to the rest of the world eventually. As the products are marked up by middle men, the money does not filter its way back to the Dharavi slum. Similarly, the adult writer communicates much more sympathy with the long suffering father who stares moodily at the son whose behaviour and whose interests he does not understand than he does with the little boy who takes himself so very seriously and is determined to be a proper genius . In fact, the writer gently mocks the boy s very elevated opinion of himself by repeatedly referring to him as a genius . Although there has been advances in the way women are treated, it is unfortunately still an unbalanced dynamic in our society. From an early age, women are often persuaded, even if subconsciously, to follow a certain pathway in life. They are most often associated with staying home, keeping the house clean, cooking, baking, and raising children. Certain mediums that girls are exposed to tend to sway them towards these specific wants and aspirations. The evaluation tools used by school administrators must be counted upon to do just that, define what an excellent teacher looks like and does. The Framework for Teaching encompasses all of these aspects and more within the teacher evaluation process. Administrators should enter a teacher s classroom with the idea that the teacher is a terrific teacher.
