Human Experimentation
TOPIC #4: Human Experimentation PRO: Prisoners should be allowed to participate in human
research CON: Prisoners should not be allowed to participate in human research History and
definitions Dating back to 1965, seventy five prisoners at Holmesburg prison in Pennsylvania were
purposely exposed to a poisonous agent. This study was conducted to determine the effects of dioxin,
a potentially harmful substance. Dermatologist Dr. Albert Kligman, exposed prisoners to a dosage 468
times greater than the required dosage for the experiment. All evidence has been destroyed; however,
participants are still experiencing dermatologic issues. As a result of research and experiments like

(p. 11) Prisoners have a constitutional right to exercise their autonomous choice to participate in such
trials. Although autonomy is limited due to incarceration, it should be expressed if the opportunity is
presented. Going beyond constitutional rights, the contemporary code of decency suggests that if there
is a chance that prisoners with life threatening diseases, can be alleviated of pain or have death
delayed through therapeutic treatment, than decency should be upheld (Pacquerella, 2002). Because of
research done in the past, where ethical questions arose, there are rules and guidelines in place to
prevent the abuse of prisoners. Advocates say that, in certain instances where the risks for general
participants are equivalent to those of prisoner participants, and the risks were approved and accepted
by general participants then prisoners should not be restricted in order to protect them from abuse
(Pacquerella, 2002). Prisoners should not be allowed to participate in human research argument.
Generally, research participants are offered incentives as compensation for their time. In a correctional
facility incentives may include, cash, more suitable living quarters and a reduced sentence. The

Broadway Housing Case Study
The Broadway Housing: Intimate Enclave is a great example of architects such as Daly designing
housing for the masses with great inspiration. It is amazing to see and read how affordable housing
can be so aesthetically pleasing and well designed while still taking advantage of the funds and be
economical. Indeed having had moved to Los Angeles recently, it is hard to believe or even notice that
Santa Monica was once a small cheap town and that compared to previous realities, it is now a very
expensive area to live and work and is recognized as an elite place to inhabit. Projects like such make
it possible to people from all kinds of economic status to live and work in great spots of Los Angeles

This project is considered an infill design maximizing the amounts of units on site but still providing
great senses of spaces within the building itself. Further, the idea of the terraces to overlook the city is
a great illustration of architecture that cares about its users since it integrates nice relaxing spaces for
the residents to congregate or just be. On the other hand, the Star Apartments are units strictly used for
the homeless population. We had the great opportunity to tour it and even walk in one of the single
resident units. This marvelous project must inspire other architecture firms and city programs to
design and incentivize buildings like such. In fact, the homeless population in Los Angeles grows
every year making it the largest population in the United States because of weather conditions and
perhaps social communities. In previous lectures, we had learned that a law was passed in L.A. to
raise money from the government directly strictly towards homeless housing and programs to help
them. In fact, this topic in specific awakes great interest on me, making it my top choice for our final
presentations in class. Moreover, I have visited the building several times after our first toured visit,
and I believe it has great potential to make a difference in the urban fabric because of its location and
notorious design. One of the aspects that I enjoyed the most that Webb mentions in his book is the
second level social space on the building and the amazing opportunities spaces like this

Prenatal And Early Postnatal Periods
Introduction
Season of Birth (SOB) is influenced during prenatal and early postnatal periods and is thought to
affect the brain resulting in various personality traits (Kazanteva et al., 2014). SOB may also affect a
person psychologically or physiologically, such as with sleep patterns and handedness (Dome et al.,
2010). Many of the research done on SOB define season base on the northern hemisphere as spring
(March to May), summer (June to August), autumn (September to November) and winter (December
to February) (Merriam Webster, 2015).
Some scientists postulate that SOB is also influenced by environmental factors, such amount of
sunlight exposed to the individual. Which SOB has been seen in some people with disorders, such as

Installing A Wireless Sensor Network Essay
INTRODUCTION A Wireless Sensor Network or WSN is supposed to be made up of a large number
of sensors and at least one base station. The sensors are autonomous small devices with several
constraints like the battery power, computation capacity, communication range and memory. They also
are supplied with transceivers to gather information from its environment and pass it on up to a certain
base station, where the measured parameters can be stored and available for the end user. In most
cases, the sensors forming these networks are deployed randomly and left unattended to and are
expected to perform their mission properly and efficiently. As a result of this random deployment, the
WSN has usually varying degrees of node density along its area. Sensor networks are also energy
constrained since the individual sensors, which the network is formed with, are extremely energy
constrained as well. The communication devices on these sensors are small and have limited power
and range. Both the probably difference of node density among some regions of the network and the
energy constraint of the sensor nodes cause nodes slowly die making the network less dense. Also it is
quite common to deploy WSNs in harsh environment, what makes many sensors inoperable or faulty.
For that reason, these networks need to be fault tolerant so that the need for maintenance is minimized.
Typically the network topology is continuously and dynamically changing, and it is actually not a
desired solution to

Epictetus Vs 90210
The Handbook vs. 90210
Finding happiness in life is the ultimate goal for many people; this task, however, is not easy. In a
world surrounded by temptation, it is often extremely difficult to distinguish the difference between
what leads to true happiness and what only temporarily gratifies. Innumerable philosophers have tried
to tackle this challenge, and each has left behind various theories on how to achieve happiness. One of
the most famous philosophers, Epictetus, came to the conclusion that Stoicism is the best way to find
happiness in the mortal world. Epictetus lived from approximately 50 130 A.D. and the stoic
movement began to catch on even earlier, around 300 B.C. (Epictetus 1). Stoicism, however, takes an
extreme approach of both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps this was plausible hundreds of years ago when the world was a much smaller place, but
modern society certainly won t allow for that type of behavior. The television show 90210 depicts the
modern take on happiness, and is quite the opposite of Epictetus teachings. The characters on the
show attribute opulent wealth and rising social status to the concept of the good life. While Epictetus
and the characters of 90210 have very different ideas of happiness and the good life, both parties
would benefit greatly from each other. 90210 and Epictetus show two extreme and opposite versions
of the good life, neither of which can be successful on their own. Achieving the good life a state of
well being, tranquility, and happiness requires a combination of Epictetus teachings and the modern
conception as depicted in 90210. Doing so will allow people to find a happy medium without

The Start of My Love for Wrestling
I believe wrestling is one of the hardest sports around the world. There are only a few who stick
around throughout the season because they are willing to endure the pain. I had difficulties deciding
which sport to play, and I chose the one that called out to me the most. I had difficulties throughout the
season at first, and then I loved wrestling even more after it ended.
Ever since I was little and saw WWE RAW, a wrestling TV show, for the first time, I enjoyed
watching wrestling on TV. I would always jump up throwing my arms in the air when my favorite
wrestler was winning. I would invite some of my friends over on Saturdays to mimic the wrestling
moves that the wrestlers were doing from the TV on a trampoline in my backyard during the afternoon
because it looked awesome and it was very fun. The wrestling TV show inspired me to join wrestling
in High School. During my freshmen year in Oroville High School the winter sports basketball and
wrestling were about to start. I kept asking myself Agh, why do both of the sports I want to play have
to be at the same time? After the second week of school passed by since the fall sports started, some of
my friends in basketball kept telling me, You should play basketball because you got a fine arm.
I replied, I would have to think about it a bit more. Later on in the school day when I was in weight
training class the teacher, Coach Rice, who was also the wrestling coach called me over to talk
because he had seen

Sherman Alexie The Joy Of Reading
Academic Blog Post: EJ Goings (9/4/2015)
Thinking back on all of the academic posts that we have worked on, I believe that there is some sort of
pattern between Villanueva, Mellix, and Alexie stories. All have been able to overcome struggle, face
adversity, and strive and maintain excellence in mastering English and literacy skills. Their adversity
allowed them to grow internally, allowing their external layer to be polished and perfected. In the
Alexie piece, Alexie believed that Indian children were expected to be stupid . (Sherman Alexie, The
Joy of Reading and Writing) When a child expectations are low and they are told they will not amount
to anything, they begin to believe and process those thoughts. Thus, making it very hard for a child to

The Tourism Industry In The Hospitality Industry
According to the World Bank, the hospitality industry revenue has been the largest contribution to the
world GDP, for the sixth consecutive year, outdoing a total of 10.2% (US$7.6 Trillion) in the year
2016. The hospitality industry currently employs around 292 million of people, and that means that 1
in 10 jobs around the globe is linked to the hospitality industry (Oxford Economics for World Travel
Tourism Council, 2017)
A good example of this is the Popular Republic of China, located in the Asia. According to the World
Bank, it s the most populated country in the world, leading the global rank with 1.3 Billion of people
(World Bank, 2016). With 7 billion people around the globe, China represents 20% of the world s
population.
However, how can this information relate to industry? China s domestic tourism industry has earned
about 3.9 trillion of yuans in 2016. That s approximately 563.6 billion of US dollars, representing
more than 10% of China overall GDP. It also has developed 10.2% of the entire employment of the
country (China National Tourism Administration, 2016).
Nevertheless, the inbound tourism has decreased since 2007 due to problems such as currency
fluctuation which makes tourists considerate other locations, corruption, bad government reputation,
the lack of novelty and competitiveness and the polluted environment. These are some of the problems
that inbound tourism has been facing for the past ten years. The Chinese government has been

Sources of funds
About 42% of Nigeria s independent funds are sourced mainly from US and European government
and aid agencies, 17% from local banks, 25% from local pension funds, and
15% from partners and other sources. In Nigeria, institutional investors are reluctant to invest in
private equity. A large reason for this is might be lack of familiarity with the private equity asset class.
In the short term, Nigeria may see increased commitments from US and European government and aid
agencies is most likely, however foreign pension funds are not likely to be significant source of
commitments.
Investments
Private equity investments in CAPE portfolio companies grew from approximately $5 million in 5
companies in 1999 to approximately $12 million in 4 companies in 2000.
The average deal size has increased from approximately $1 million to approximately $3 million for

1960s Counterculture Movement Research Paper
In addition to religion, politics were a key part of the 1960s counterculture movement in America.
Notable political events that occurred during the 1960s were the Vietnam War and the Cold War.
These events stirred conflict and a beginning of distrust and a questioning of authority when it came to
government in the 1960s. In the 1960s, the Cold War was intensifying around the world and the
United States started to solidify its policies regarding communism. As a result, America sided with the
southern split of Vietnam to support democracy. America would engage in military efforts in Vietnam,

Also, both movements were reactions to the period before them, the Renaissance was a reaction to the
Middle Ages and the 1960s were a reaction to the 1950s. Religious turmoil during the Renaissance
allowed people to free think and come up with their own beliefs which sparked advancements in art,
science, and exploration. Also, the strict religious constructs in the Middle Ages pushed people to
oppose the church which resulted in new branches of the church during the Renaissance as a reaction.
Politics during the Renaissance and the ideals of the Medici family allowed more people access to
knowledge and therefore sparked resurgence of education and which led to the Renaissance
movement. In contrast, the strict politics of the Middle Ages disallowed many freedoms from people,
as a reaction to the renaissance more people pushed for change. Society during the Renaissance went
under a substantial change with the end of the feudalism. This change allowed more people to gain
access to different occupations and education which led to more advancements in art, knowledge, and

Pros And Cons Of DRE Research
There are a great deal of reforms and frustration due to the DRE machines because they are outdated

lawsuits that were filed against states in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Arizona, New York, California,

Consequently, the matter gets worse in some states and local counties. In order to fulfill the people

Athletes Vs Pro Sports Players
A man that fights in the military should make more money than a professional sports player. A soldier
can t see his or her family on holidays, birthdays, or anniversaries, while a sports player can bring
their families to their games. A man who plays for the NBA makes up to 5 million dollars per year
according to moneynation.com. A sergeant in the U.S Army makes only 35,592 dollars per year. A
college football coach in Alabama makes 75,000 dollars for having a title and 125,000 for winning a
game. This is much more than soldier. Soldiers risk their lives, and know that they may not wake up in
the morning and see the light of day. Pro sports players do not risk their lives, and only have to worry
about getting an injury while playing.

Eassy On Homework
Homework was an essential feature of my own life whilst growing up. If memory serves me correct,
the practice was always considered important and was enforced throughout grade school by both my
teachers and parents. I remember coming home from school in second grade and completing a thick
booklet of blank, squared pages that required me to print my numbers out from 1 1000. I sat at the
kitchen table to complete it, with all seven of my family members conversing around me, as I was a
child that lacked an adequate place to study. Envy invaded my mind as my brothers and sisters played
joyfully around me, making it difficult to remain concentrated; nevertheless, I was forced to sit at the
table until the booklet was completed. Instances such as the one previously mentioned were a regular
occurrence in my youth and negatively impacted my playtime, although my brothers and sisters
eventually joined me at the table to complete their own homework.
Completing homework was a necessity in my household, and failing to do so would result in harsh
consequences. One particular instance of an incomplete homework assignment stands out prominently
in my memory. As I got older, my interests grew, but the amount of homework that I was required to
accomplish gradually increased as well. During my upper level elementary years, I was absolutely
obsessed with the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. In the final month of sixth grade I was assigned
a year end project to complete for English Language Arts. Unfortunately, the assignment became a
conflict of interest for me owing to the fact that the weekend that it was assigned was also the
weekend in which I would be acquiring the new Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix book at the
pre release event at midnight.
While at the bookstore with my mother, jumping with excitement might I add, she asked me if I had
any homework to complete over the weekend and explained to me that if I did, the book would have
to wait until summer vacation arrived before I could begin reading it. Upon receiving this information,
I lied to my mother and told her that our teacher did not give any homework during the last week of
school because I did not want the book withheld from me until doing so. The

Similarities Between Jamestown And Plymouth Colonies
Coming to America, many different groups of people had a hard time migrating here and trying to
survive. Although many came well equipped for the hard journey, being new to the land made it
harder for them to build colonies and thrive. This is because they came across many unexpected
hardships that they were not prepared for mentally and physically. In this essay, I will talk about two
different groups that migrated to America and how they adjusted to the new land and the new way of
life. The colonies of Jamestown and Plymouth Plantation both had many similarities and a few
differences when they came to America in the journey to build more and more colonies. When

they all came to the conclusion that Smith should be elected president because he had learned from the
tribe how to set up and run an efficient government. Although Smith was very strict with the colonists,
by being so, the colony was able to get back on their feet and thrive. Later on as time passed, Smith
was injured and had to return to England. Of the 214 colonists that arrived in America, only 60

Pros And Cons Of Senior Care Texas And Companionship
Senior Care Texas and Companionship
As we age, there are many positive events that happen in our lives. We get to witness the marriage of
our children, the birth of our grandchildren or great grandchildren, and hopefully enjoy the fruits of
our labor during retirement. There are some negative parts to aging as well. Friends and family pass
on or move away, the excitement of the workforce is replaced with endless numbers of unscheduled
days, and even your closest allies, such as a spouse, may move on in divorce or death. The result of
these changes, despite the many positives, is loneliness.
According to studies by the University of California at San Francisco, nearly half of seniors report
having regular feelings of loneliness. Surprisingly, half of those seniors ... Show more content on

The University of Rochester Medical Center found that social interaction is important for health, and
loneliness leads to medical problems. One study found fewer colds, lower blood pressure, and lower
heart rates in seniors with strong social ties. Statistics show that marriage, perhaps the strongest tie,
adds years to life expectancy. And suicide, mental illness and alcoholism rates are much lower when
people feel a sense of belonging.
Studies at UC San Francisco support the Rochester findings. They found that seniors over 60 who
experience prolonged bouts of loneliness have a 45 percent increase in their risk of death. They were
also nearly 60 percent more likely to have mental and physical problems develop as a result of the
loneliness.
Supporting the idea that more people does not necessarily resolve loneliness, Dr. T. Byram Karasu
Albert Einstein College of Medicine s chair of psychiatry and behavioral sciences found that Even
when they re being taken care of by family caregivers, there is often little attention paid to deep,
engaging communication between a senior and the rest of the family. The result is a feeling of being

Joshua 1:9
The purpose of this paper is to tell you what I think is the meaning of this bible verse/passage. Most
people miss interpret Joshua 1:9 because they think it is a literal thing. That is a legit literal thing. That
even if we walk into a bar he will be there with us. Which I don t personally believe is the case.
If we check with history, most of the book of Joshua was written by Joshua himself, after the four
hundred years of the Israelites living in Egypt, and after the forty years of the Israelites living in the
desert.
When looking through five specific versions of the bible, you will find that the phrase the Lord your
God (New Living Translation, Josh. 1.9) is said in every one of the versions. When you research some
more you find out that the phrase the Lord your God (New Living Translation, Josh 1.9) is also the
opening line of the Ten Commandments. The name for God used in the opening of the Ten
Commandments is YHWH Elohim, which means god.
The introduction of the Ten Commandments sets forward the identity of God. The pattern and
language that it uses is like the language that was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go (New Living
Translation, Josh. 1.9) the promise of God always being with us is also something that can be
applicable to Christians today. In one sense, the promise in this passage was specific to Joshua s role
as leader of the Israelites as he took them into the Promised Land. Joshua had a tremendous task to
fulfill after the death of Moses the responsibility of leading an entire nation into a new land. God s
words of boldness and encouragement served as an important message to strengthen Joshua as the
leader of God s people. While the promise that God would be with Joshua was specific to Joshua, the
principle extends to us today. (GotQuestions,

Religion In Appalachia Summary
Along with a territory, comes its traditions and ways of living. One key aspect of the Appalachian life
is religion. Religion plays a major role in Appalachia as well as the creation of Berea college.
Focusing on the Christian traditions found in central and southern Appalachia, numerous scholars
examine the theology and religious doctrines of the various mountain, Evangelical, Pentecostal and
mainline denominational churches throughout the region. In the last several decades, the research of
Appalachian scholars such as Ronald L. Lewis, Dwight B. Billings, Wilma Dunaway, and others
contributed to the deconstruction of numerous economic and social myths. Until the 1970s, most of
the literary and academic works on Appalachia failed to recognize ... Show more content on

Weller, a United Presbyterian minister who had served as a home missionary in the coalfields of West
Virginia since the early 1950s, published a small book, Yesterday s People: Life in Contemporary
Appalachia (1965). From its first day to the present, the book, Yesterday s People: Life in
Contemporary Appalachia, has served as the defining statement of Appalachia in the collective
American consciousness, and in particular of religious life distinctive to the mountain regions of
Appalachia. During this time in 1965, the Appalachian Region Commission (ARC) was formed by the
government for the redevelopment of the region. The first step was to map out the region, but the map
quickly expanded from the commonly and historically understood area (McCauley). Today Berea
college finds itself keeping its religious beliefs at the forefront, but they do not force its religious
aspect upon the students. For example, Berea college does not require chapel like most Christian
colleges do. Instead Berea College has focused and devoted itself to love and inclusiveness. The world
today has so many labels and different stipulations as to what you can and cannot do based upon the
religion, sex, or race you identify with. Berea college strives to be as inclusive as possible, allowing

Education Act 1996 Case Study
1.1.8 The Education Act 1996 Education Act 1996 places a legal duty on the parent or guardian of a
child aged five to sixteen years (known as compulsory school age), to ensure that their children or
child attends and receives full time education, either in a traditional school or any other means that is
appropriate for their age, ability, and aptitude, taking into account any special needs they may have.
The Act makes it a criminal offense for a parent or guardian to take their child out of school without
authorisation from the school, and an offense for parents who are aware that their child is failing to
attend school to not take reasonable action to ensure that the child attends. The offense of failing to
ensure regular attendance at school is punishable by up to three months imprisonment and/or fine up
to one thousand pounds. 1 Where a child is not attending school regularly, the Local Education
Authority (LEA) has the option of taking criminal or civil action against the parent or guardian. It may
then decide to mount a prosecution for breach of s 444 of the 1996 Act, just as it can for breach of s
443. Before the 1989 Children Act, the LEA was obliged to consider whether it was appropriate to
bring care proceedings based on truancy and failure by the parent or guardian. A review by DHSS
reasoned that care proceedings were inappropriate where the problem was the child s absenteeism.
Where the child s absences were part of the wider family problem and the child

What Is The Role Of Henry Clay In The Great Compromise In...
For so long, Robert Remini has been a significant player the political history. In the analysis of the
critical moment in the United States, Robert Remini paints a vivid picture of Henry Clay. Clay is
brought out as a man who was contradictory. He fought against the slavery, but on the other hand, he
equally owned slaves. He was a common man but unfortunately could not be elected as the president
of the country. Clay was an outstanding man who however was identified with lack of discipline. His
dedication to an idea that the nation was a continuous union of people was not certain. Robert Remini
explores the role of Henry Clay in the molding of the Great Compromise in 1850 (19). In as much as

Then the author outlines the situation of politics that cropped up due to the war between Americans
and Mexicans which seemed to be controversial that took place at around 1846. He then highlights of
the crisis that had threatened to bring the union to an end in a scramble of separation and the civil war.
Finally, the author paints vividly esteemed Clay who was determined to avert the catastrophe with the
great and last compromise. The credible and heroic portrait is what emerges throughout this book. All
along, Remini reminds the readers the advanced age and the illness of Clay that hindered his hard
work and lastly made him leave Washington before completing his task. In Remini s thesis, there a
robust, authentic element: starting with the convention of the constitution someone can argue that the
Union was able to be together because of many compromises made initiated by the leaders who were
aware for the need of a neutral standing position. Remini, however, transfers the point in extreme and
oversimplifies the debate to a point he ignores the six scholarship decades and goes back to the ham
handed group explanation. Robert Remini says of Great Triumvirate which he alludes to the era s great
men who passed away like Henry clay; the nation would lack men who will be devoted zealously to

Blood Vessels Lab Report
Introduction
The main types of blood vessels in the systemic system are arteries, arterioles, capillaries, veins and
venules. In this experiment, the main blood vessels that were explored in depth were the arteries and
the veins. An artery is a muscular or elastic tube that carries oxygenated blood from the heart to the
tissues of the body. The only exception to this is the pulmonary, which carries oxygen to the lungs for
oxygenation and removal of excess carbon dioxide. A vein is a type of blood vessel that transports
oxygen depleted blood to the right atrium of the heart. In a blood vessel, the diameter is extremely
important. It can affect the movement of blood flow. The diameter is one of the three sources of
resistance, and it is intertwined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The clay may not have flattened enough when used as a seal in part two. The straw may not have been
exactly half way up the cup, and the water my not have been exactly three quarters full. Also, the
depth of the straw may not have been exactly the same over the entire lab. Moreover, the seal may
have been pressed too hard onto the straw, which could have made for more pressure that was not
intended. In the experiment, when there was an inner clay plug in the straw, air built up inside.
Arteries observe a considerable amount of more blood pressure compared to veins. If plaque were to
build up inside an artery, the higher blood pressure it experiences would force it to pop. This lab
illustrates this concept in numerous ways. First, the inner clay plug in the straw forces the air to build
up inside. The clay acts as an obstruction that forces the plaque(air) from exiting the straw. When there
is an obstruction, more pressure (in this case blowing effort) is required to blow the air through the
straw. In a blood vessel, even when plaque is building up, the pressure is kept constant and forces
more plaque to stick. To maintain a constant rate of bubbles, more pressure (blowing effort) had to be
applied, even at the cost of air building up inside the straw. In a blood vessel, to maintain a constant
flow of blood when there is an obstruction, more blood pressure is applied, even though plaque will
build up. As a side note, the marker on the cup was simply a marker, however, it was important to
keep the depth of the straw in the cup consistent so that the results could be as accurate as possible.
The plastic straw in the experiment represented the blood vessel that blood (in this case air) had to
flow through. The flattened clay seal represented the wall that is present in blood vessel. The seal was
supposed to rupture due to the fact that it was supposed to represent the thin wall that is present in
veins.

Introduction
This report will discuss the phenomenon of Globalisation in Australia. The report will analyse the
social, economic, political and environmental factors of globalisation in Australia. In these factors will
discuss the positives and negatives of each impact. Then an overall conclusion will be made about
whether Globalisation is a negative or positive in Australia.
Background ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The process of globalisation has been the catalyst for increased global interconnections. (Costello,
2004). Global interconnections are linked to developments in transport, communications technologies
along with the increased influence of large regions of the globe. These changes are also responsible
for the breaking down of national borders and the creations of a virtual business globe. The
enhancement of business opportunities in social globalisation in Australia has benefited the creation of
jobs and employment.
Negatives
Particular drawbacks of social globalisation are our reliance on technology, loss of cultural identities,
and fear of job loss in developed countries, increased risk of epidemics as people are more mobile and
the increased threat of terrorism.
Our reliance on technology can be a negative effect on social globalisation as we miss social exchange
with countries that do not have the technology to communicate in this matter. Another disadvantage is
the potential dominance of other countries on Australian society. Australia is influenced by more
established regions such as; USA, Britain and Europe. This can be a negative as other cultures begin
to flourish through our country and Indigenous people and smaller cultures lose value and meaning.
Fear of job loss is another negative impact of social globalisation. As new technology begins to
rapidly grow through the world,

Good health care for pregnant teenager begins with great satisfactory prenatal care, which begins in
the first trimester of the pregnancy. Prenatal care is essential for monitoring the growth of the fetus
and the health of the mother.
Teenage mothers and their babies face a number of health risks, as a result of emotional disorder,
poverty, lack of resource, limited access to health care, and low quality of life style living, causing to
birth babies born with low birth weight, health issues, and infant mortality as a result of living in
poverty limits healthy lifestyle choices which makes it difficult to access health care and resources
that can promote health and prevent illness. Unemployment and unaffordable housing are also
associated with poverty and poor health, and because of this many teenage mothers have poor eating
habits and are less likely to gain adequate weight during their pregnancy, leading to low birth weight.
Low birth weight babies are more likely to have organs that are not fully developed, which can result
in complications, such as bleeding in the brain, respiratory distress syndrome, and intestinal problems.
Teenage pregnant mothers are more likely to smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol, or take drugs during

Analysis OfAll Quiet On The Western Front, By Erich Maria...
With WWI came a generation of young men that were lost forever, regardless if they exited in a
coffin. In Erich Maria Remarque s landmark novel All Quiet on the Western Front , he illustrates the
everyday hell soldier s face fishing in the battlefields of WWI. The novel, Paul Baumer, is a foot
soldier fighting for the German army; he shares a first hand account of the war s atrocities on himself
and his comrades in arms. In the novel, All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque, the
author reveals the horrifying yet calmness between the main characters of the story, and his
relationship to the first industrialized war between Germany and others through the use of a variety of
literary elements to emphasize the impact of the war on young men as well as employing imagery to
appeal to the readers senses to illustrate how the war changed boys into men of the lost generation.
Erich Maria Remarque utilizes morbid imagery in order to teach readers how is war is vile and putrid.
Early on the soldiers get acquainted to sounds of war when ear piercing screams come from fatally
wounded horses that fell victim to enemy artillery fire. The author creates this imagery But this
appalling noise, these groans and screams penetrate, they penetrate everywhere. (Remarque 62)
Remarque creates a noise that can t be forgotten and really displays the effect it has on the soldiers
even after the horses have perished. Another example of imagery is the smell of the freshly made

Algonquin Natives In Black Robe
The film Black Robe is set in New France, later known as Quebec in 1634. A young Jesuit priest and
his companion are sent through the wilderness to find the Huron Mission. They are escorted by the
Algonquin Natives. This 1500 mile journey begins in late fall and continues through the harsh winter,
leaving survival seemingly slim to impossible.
Different Perspectives The perspectives of both the Jesuit priest and the Algonquin Natives are both

each set of culture beliefs. The Jesuit priest (Father Laforgue) attempts to bring Catholic faith ... Show

shown quite accurately. As to my personal reaction to the film at first I was on the side of Jesuit priest,
cheering him on his mission, sympathizing with him in his lack of understanding the environment and
the Algonquians their language, rituals and beliefs. As the movie progressed my opinion changed and I
found the priest rather unforgiving towards Daniels attraction and relationship to Annuka, he seem
lacking in compassion when trying to get his Christian message across and is pretty adamant and
pushy trying to get Chomina to accept Christ when he was dying, when all Chomina wanted to do was
die and peace and be with his people. As a Christian myself, I actually became rather upset and
enraged with how the Europeans went in with the idea that they were right and the Algonquians were
wrong. I don t think anyone belief system or anyone culture is more correct than another and that it
was pretty arrogant and conceited of the Europeans to believe this was the case. The Natives had a

  • 2. Human Experimentation TOPIC #4: Human Experimentation PRO: Prisoners should be allowed to participate in human research CON: Prisoners should not be allowed to participate in human research History and definitions Dating back to 1965, seventy five prisoners at Holmesburg prison in Pennsylvania were purposely exposed to a poisonous agent. This study was conducted to determine the effects of dioxin, a potentially harmful substance. Dermatologist Dr. Albert Kligman, exposed prisoners to a dosage 468 times greater than the required dosage for the experiment. All evidence has been destroyed; however, participants are still experiencing dermatologic issues. As a result of research and experiments like these conducted in prisons, the Department of Health, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (p. 11) Prisoners have a constitutional right to exercise their autonomous choice to participate in such trials. Although autonomy is limited due to incarceration, it should be expressed if the opportunity is presented. Going beyond constitutional rights, the contemporary code of decency suggests that if there is a chance that prisoners with life threatening diseases, can be alleviated of pain or have death delayed through therapeutic treatment, than decency should be upheld (Pacquerella, 2002). Because of research done in the past, where ethical questions arose, there are rules and guidelines in place to prevent the abuse of prisoners. Advocates say that, in certain instances where the risks for general participants are equivalent to those of prisoner participants, and the risks were approved and accepted by general participants then prisoners should not be restricted in order to protect them from abuse (Pacquerella, 2002). In a correctional facility incentives may include, cash, more suitable living quarters and a reduced sentence. The American Medical Association (AMA) claims that such ... • 3. Broadway Housing Case Study The Broadway Housing: Intimate Enclave is a great example of architects such as Daly designing housing for the masses with great inspiration. It is amazing to see and read how affordable housing can be so aesthetically pleasing and well designed while still taking advantage of the funds and be economical. Indeed having had moved to Los Angeles recently, it is hard to believe or even notice that Santa Monica was once a small cheap town and that compared to previous realities, it is now a very expensive area to live and work and is recognized as an elite place to inhabit. Projects like such make it possible to people from all kinds of economic status to live and work in great spots of Los Angeles County, such as Santa Monica. In fact, Daly s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This project is considered an infill design maximizing the amounts of units on site but still providing great senses of spaces within the building itself. Further, the idea of the terraces to overlook the city is a great illustration of architecture that cares about its users since it integrates nice relaxing spaces for the residents to congregate or just be. On the other hand, the Star Apartments are units strictly used for the homeless population. We had the great opportunity to tour it and even walk in one of the single resident units. This marvelous project must inspire other architecture firms and city programs to design and incentivize buildings like such. In fact, the homeless population in Los Angeles grows every year making it the largest population in the United States because of weather conditions and perhaps social communities. Moreover, I have visited the building several times after our first toured visit, and I believe it has great potential to make a difference in the urban fabric because of its location and notorious design. One of the aspects that I enjoyed the most that Webb mentions in his book is the second level social space on the building and the amazing opportunities spaces like this ... • 7. Installing A Wireless Sensor Network Essay INTRODUCTION A Wireless Sensor Network or WSN is supposed to be made up of a large number of sensors and at least one base station. The sensors are autonomous small devices with several constraints like the battery power, computation capacity, communication range and memory. They also are supplied with transceivers to gather information from its environment and pass it on up to a certain base station, where the measured parameters can be stored and available for the end user. In most cases, the sensors forming these networks are deployed randomly and left unattended to and are expected to perform their mission properly and efficiently. As a result of this random deployment, the WSN has usually varying degrees of node density along its area. Sensor networks are also energy constrained since the individual sensors, which the network is formed with, are extremely energy constrained as well. The communication devices on these sensors are small and have limited power and range. Both the probably difference of node density among some regions of the network and the energy constraint of the sensor nodes cause nodes slowly die making the network less dense. Also it is quite common to deploy WSNs in harsh environment, what makes many sensors inoperable or faulty. For that reason, these networks need to be fault tolerant so that the need for maintenance is minimized. Typically the network topology is continuously and dynamically changing, and it is actually not a desired solution to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If memory serves me correct, the practice was always considered important and was enforced throughout grade school by both my teachers and parents. I remember coming home from school in second grade and completing a thick booklet of blank, squared pages that required me to print my numbers out from 1 1000. I sat at the kitchen table to complete it, with all seven of my family members conversing around me, as I was a child that lacked an adequate place to study. Envy invaded my mind as my brothers and sisters played joyfully around me, making it difficult to remain concentrated; nevertheless, I was forced to sit at the table until the booklet was completed. Instances such as the one previously mentioned were a regular occurrence in my youth and negatively impacted my playtime, although my brothers and sisters eventually joined me at the table to complete their own homework. Completing homework was a necessity in my household, and failing to do so would result in harsh consequences. One particular instance of an incomplete homework assignment stands out prominently in my memory. While at the bookstore with my mother, jumping with excitement might I add, she asked me if I had any homework to complete over the weekend and explained to me that if I did, the book would have to wait until summer vacation arrived before I could begin reading it. • 25. Education Act 1996 Case Study 1.1.8 The Education Act 1996 Education Act 1996 places a legal duty on the parent or guardian of a child aged five to sixteen years (known as compulsory school age), to ensure that their children or child attends and receives full time education, either in a traditional school or any other means that is appropriate for their age, ability, and aptitude, taking into account any special needs they may have. The Act makes it a criminal offense for a parent or guardian to take their child out of school without authorisation from the school, and an offense for parents who are aware that their child is failing to attend school to not take reasonable action to ensure that the child attends. The offense of failing to ensure regular attendance at school is punishable by up to three months imprisonment and/or fine up to one thousand pounds. 1 Where a child is not attending school regularly, the Local Education Authority (LEA) has the option of taking criminal or civil action against the parent or guardian. It may then decide to mount a prosecution for breach of s 444 of the 1996 Act, just as it can for breach of s 443. Before the 1989 Children Act, the LEA was obliged to consider whether it was appropriate to bring care proceedings based on truancy and failure by the parent or guardian. A review by DHSS reasoned that care proceedings were inappropriate where the problem was the child s absenteeism. Where the child s absences were part of the wider family problem and the child ... In the analysis of the critical moment in the United States, Robert Remini paints a vivid picture of Henry Clay. Clay is brought out as a man who was contradictory. He fought against the slavery, but on the other hand, he equally owned slaves. He was a common man but unfortunately could not be elected as the president of the country. Clay was an outstanding man who however was identified with lack of discipline. His dedication to an idea that the nation was a continuous union of people was not certain. Robert Remini explores the role of Henry Clay in the molding of the Great Compromise in 1850 (19). In as much as the 1850 compromise did not prevent the civil ... Finally, the author paints vividly esteemed Clay who was determined to avert the catastrophe with the great and last compromise. The credible and heroic portrait is what emerges throughout this book. All along, Remini reminds the readers the advanced age and the illness of Clay that hindered his hard work and lastly made him leave Washington before completing his task. In Remini s thesis, there a robust, authentic element: starting with the convention of the constitution someone can argue that the Union was able to be together because of many compromises made initiated by the leaders who were aware for the need of a neutral standing position. Remini, however, transfers the point in extreme and oversimplifies the debate to a point he ignores the six scholarship decades and goes back to the ham handed group explanation. Robert Remini says of Great Triumvirate which he alludes to the era s great men who passed away like Henry clay; the nation would lack men who will be devoted zealously to be of service in the Union and men who possessed candid capabilities in leadership and ... • 28. Blood Vessels Lab Report Introduction The main types of blood vessels in the systemic system are arteries, arterioles, capillaries, veins and venules. In this experiment, the main blood vessels that were explored in depth were the arteries and the veins. An artery is a muscular or elastic tube that carries oxygenated blood from the heart to the tissues of the body. The only exception to this is the pulmonary, which carries oxygen to the lungs for oxygenation and removal of excess carbon dioxide. A vein is a type of blood vessel that transports oxygen depleted blood to the right atrium of the heart. In a blood vessel, the diameter is extremely important. It can affect the movement of blood flow. The diameter is one of the three sources of resistance, and it is intertwined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The clay may not have flattened enough when used as a seal in part two. The straw may not have been exactly half way up the cup, and the water my not have been exactly three quarters full. Also, the depth of the straw may not have been exactly the same over the entire lab. Moreover, the seal may have been pressed too hard onto the straw, which could have made for more pressure that was not intended. In the experiment, when there was an inner clay plug in the straw, air built up inside. Arteries observe a considerable amount of more blood pressure compared to veins. If plaque were to build up inside an artery, the higher blood pressure it experiences would force it to pop. This lab illustrates this concept in numerous ways. First, the inner clay plug in the straw forces the air to build up inside. The clay acts as an obstruction that forces the plaque(air) from exiting the straw. When there is an obstruction, more pressure (in this case blowing effort) is required to blow the air through the straw. In a blood vessel, even when plaque is building up, the pressure is kept constant and forces more plaque to stick. To maintain a constant rate of bubbles, more pressure (blowing effort) had to be applied, even at the cost of air building up inside the straw. In a blood vessel, to maintain a constant flow of blood when there is an obstruction, more blood pressure is applied, even though plaque will build up. As a side note, the marker on the cup was simply a marker, however, it was important to keep the depth of the straw in the cup consistent so that the results could be as accurate as possible. The plastic straw in the experiment represented the blood vessel that blood (in this case air) had to flow through. The flattened clay seal represented the wall that is present in blood vessel. The seal was supposed to rupture due to the fact that it was supposed to represent the thin wall that is present in veins. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Particular drawbacks of social globalisation are our reliance on technology, loss of cultural identities, and fear of job loss in developed countries, increased risk of epidemics as people are more mobile and the increased threat of terrorism. Our reliance on technology can be a negative effect on social globalisation as we miss social exchange with countries that do not have the technology to communicate in this matter. Another disadvantage is the potential dominance of other countries on Australian society. Australia is influenced by more established regions such as; USA, Britain and Europe.
