Concrete Nouns
Concrete nouns can be physically touched and detailed. Concrete nouns can also have different
meanings to anyone that reads them, looks at them, or touches them. A story is created by a series
of concrete nouns coming together.
First, my favorite concreate noun is heart. Heart is my favorite because the heart feels love or feels
broken. The heart is also what you would use for passion and most people would listen to their
heart to decide whether their action or emotion is right or wrong.
Secondly, the heart works for me because I try to listen to my heart as frequently as I can. My
heart has the intentions to make me happy and show me who I truly care about. the heart also
works for everyone else because everyone has a heart to use, but it might also express emotions
differently from somebody else. The heart is also relatable when in a discussion because it is
experienced by everybody in different ways. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The concrete nouns themselves are very descriptive without the story bringing back your own
memories to relate to the words, but by also creating a story in the process of reading through the
list of concrete nouns.
Lastly, I think the point of this activity was to build a bigger picture with the small subjects
given. This will help me become a better writer by assisting me by looking at the bigger picture
and by looking at a different perspective. The concrete nouns enable people to create a solid story
built by their own memories or emotions while abstract nouns make them look at the endless stream
of possibilities making it difficult to understand the moral or meaning behind the story, because it
could mean

Figurative Language In Hamlet
Authors express the complexities of being human by using figurative language. figurative
language exaggerates feelings or just simply expresses them in a way compared to something
else so you understand the way the character feels. Figurative language can take one emotion and
describe it in many different ways. For example one feeling can be expressed using a smile,
metaphor, personification, or any literary device. In Hamlet Act 1, he expresses his dismay on
how his mother could go from being married to a man who is so much less King Hamlet. He says
My fathers brother, but no more like my father than I to Hercules. This is a simile that means his
uncle that is now married to his mom is nothing like the man his father, King Hamlet was. Hamlet

Self Objectification Paper
How the Medias Standard of Beauty Leads to Self Objectification and Eating Disorders Article
One. An impressive set of researchers, Antonios Dakanalis, Giuseppe CarrГ , Rachel Calogero,
Roberta Fida, Massimo Clerici, Maria Assunta Zanetti, and Giuseppe Riva, hypothesized that
societal standards of beauty are leading to self objectification and subsequent eating disorders.
Specifically, there experiment attempts to answer the question of whether the internalization of
media idealized images result in negative body images and self objectification among middle
adolescents that can lead to eating disorders (Dakanalis et al., 2014, p. 1). The question is
interesting because it aims to measure the possible physical health risk factors resulting from...

Researchers Dirk Smeesters and Naomi Mandel in their study titled Positive and Negative
Media Image Effects on the Self aimed to show how exposure to media images of models of
different body types effect self esteem. It is significant because it measures both the positive and
negative effects that body ideal standards represented by the media has on self esteem.
Additionally, the research is interesting because it not only measures the effects of the thin ideal
but also measures the effects that different, some might say more realistic, body types have on self
esteem. Dirk and Smeesters hypothesized that When completing a free response measure,
participants will demonstrate higher self esteem after exposure to moderately thin models than
after exposure to moderately heavy models and lower self esteem after exposure to extremely thin
models than after exposure to extremely heavy models (Smeesters Mandel, 2006, p. 2). To test this
hypothesis, in a blind study, experimenters exposed women to pictorial images of models of
varying sizes to measure

Differences Of Disneyland And Disneyland
Families have different preferences to what they like either fantasy or real animal experience.
Some families like to bring back childhood experiences at Disneyland. While others seem to like
the adventures at SeaWorld and getting that 1 on 1 experience with wildlife. Both amusement parks
are alike with one another because both parks offer an amazing shows and spectaculars to see, but
both of those parks are not the same thing.
Disneyland is referred to the happiest place on Earth because children s favorite Disney
characters come to life. Kids and adults can experience a magical day at Disneyland taking
pictures with the famous Mickey Mouse and watch their parades around the park through out the
day. At night time families watch the amazing firework show. Even though Disneyland gives
families to enjoy Disney characters in life it s costly if you have big families. Just by staying at the
Disneyland resort is expensive just for a couple of days spent there. There are several fun rides to
go on all over the park, but with those fun rides are very long lines that take ages to advance
closer to the rides. Once upon a favorite ride, it seems that it doesn t last long enough for the wait.
With, the food is very pricy inside the park as well as Disney souvenirs and clothing. Its highly
recommended to eat outside the park and buy any clothing or souvenirs at stores outside of
Disneyland. Other than those reasons Disneyland gives an experience that could never be forgotten

The Destruction Of The Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant
The destruction of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in March 2011, caused by an
earthquake and subsequent tsunami, resulted in massive radioactive contamination of the
Japanese mainland. In November 2011, the Japanese Science Ministry reported that long lived
radioactive cesium had contaminated 11,580 square miles of the land surface of Japan.
Approximately 4,500 square miles an area almost the size of Connecticut was found to have
radiation levels that exceeded Japan s allowable exposure rate of 1 mSV (millisievert) per year.
For perspective, 1 mSV is equivalent to 100 milliRem, which is the standard unit of dose used
here at the shipyard. In a normal background radiation field, an individual is exposed to .02
milliRem/hr dose. Studies of the disaster have identified design changes, response actions and other
safety improvements that could have reduced the amount of radioactivity released from the plant.
As a result, nuclear plant safety requirements around the world have been reexamined, including
here in the United States. Figure 1 shows normal operation of a reactor along with the meltdown
process to put in to perspective the summary of Fukushima Daiichi disaster events. In Short it does
something like this: The Tohoku earthquake, March 11 2011, triggered a tsunami both of which
caused damage to the 4 power plants at Fukushima. The damage caused equipment failures and a
loss of coolant accident due to the in ability to supply the reactors with cooling

Janis Ian Literary Devices
In the excerpt we got to hear about Janis Ian s experience, about how much hate she got during
her concert in 1960th. People yelled words like Nigger lover at her. It was hard to accept the
black people in the 60 s people didn t like her song, because of the interracial relationship was
considered as an outrageous thing. Her style of writing bears on her way of thinking. It is very
personal and gets influenced by her thoughts. She seems trustworthy because of her utilize of
credibility in the way she speaks to the reader, and also her knowledge as she had experience it
on her own, which is ethos. Janis also appeals to pathos; she writes for instance I could feel tears
welling up my eyes , Just the thought of going back on stage with those people still in the
audience was enough to put me in a state of panic by these sentences we get the story told from her
own point of view... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A hero doesn t give up, which Janis didn t do either in the end. Janis uses literary devices in
orders for instance: I was singing, I was fifteen, I was having a record etc. By using these
techniques is to make the reader more at home, as if she was writing directly to the readers
themselves. She also uses anaphors and repetitions which magnifies her message and enhance
her opinions Yes, I was going to stand for that Of course I was going to stand for it The intention
behind this story must be the moral of it. The theme is to believe in yourself and stand by your
principles. Even though she feels everything is against her, she decided to go back and sing
even though she didn t want to. She had something in her, that was more important than to be
scared, and that was to be a hero, a hero for herself because heroism was something she had in her
family. She is a brave young girl because it takes a lot of courage to stand by something other
people might don t like, and especially the racism in

Carl Freud And Freud s Three Stages Of Development
The third stage of development in Freudian theory is the Phallic stage , which starts at the age of
three and goes on until the age of six. During this particular stage according to Freud, children
are said to take pleasure in their genitals and they also struggle with sexual desires, especially
strong desires towards their opposite sex parent (girl desiring her father and boy desiring his
mother). This kind of behavior in boys is called as Oedipus complex , which according to Freud
means that the boys during this stage desire their mother and want to replace their fathers, who
are seen to be seeking the mother s attention, because of this desire the boy is afraid that his
father might find out and punish the boy by the process of castration(cutting off the penis) due
to which they may develop castration anxiety. And the same desire called Electra complex
which is the desire developed in girls for their fathers and in the thought of replacing their
mothers is discussed during later on by Carl Jung. This stage helps in the development of
Superego in life. The fourth stage of development according to Freudian theory is the Latency
stage , which starts at age six and continued until puberty or twelve years of age. During this
particular stage, the child s sexual desires than to subside and they start to additionally develop
their conscience or superego. They begin to act and behave socially accepted by learning
appropriate values from their parents or caregivers as their sex instincts are sublimated into
hobbies, school activities, and sports and they also start focusing on developing and maintaining
same sex friendships amongst their groups. The fifth and last stage of development according to
the Freudian theory is the Genital stage , which starts from puberty to adulthood. During this
particular stage, the sexual desire re emerges if every stage was developed correctly. In this stage,
adolescents join in appropriate sexual behavior with their partners and develop a secure relationship
which can later lead to lifelong commitment, marriage and focus more on reproducing their future
offsprings through sexual intercourse. During this stage, individuals find satisfaction in their work
and love. In order

Russian Nesting Dolls, Matryoshka
Russian Nesting Dolls, Matryoshka
Every nation has various forms of representing its people, their believes and culture through their
unique rituals, fascinating customs, and their possessions. All of these representations of culture
behold a specific meaning and unique purpose that has to be passed on to the next generation. The
same can be said about Russian famous Babushka Dolls. Babushka Dolls are also called Russian
Nesting dolls or Matryoshka, which is a famous Russian wooden set of dolls that are designed in a
very specific way, so that the wooden figures of decreasing size could be placed one inside another.
In order to do so, each figure could be taken apart in two halves like plastic Easter eggs. These dolls
are decorated in different styles, but the original way had changed since the first Matryosha was
made in 1890 by Vasily Zvyozdochkin, who is a Russian turning craftsman, and painted by Sergey
Malyutin, who is a Russian painter and a stage designer (Terletski). Nowadays, anyone, mostly
tourists, can purchase Matryoshkas at any craft stores in Russia. However, Russian Nesting Doll
is not just a very popular souvenir, but it is also an interesting representation of our culture
because it is considered to be a very educating toy for children, a remarkable representation of
female beauty, and also a symbol of a family and fertility.
Russian Nesting Dolls is the best educating toy for children of the age of about from three and

Quantitative Thinking In The Workplace
Part 1
Significance of quantitative thinking in work place
For accountability measures, an individual is necessitated to acquire quantitative thinking. This a
good process that helps in decision making when dealing with critical issues in workplaces for it;
helps one to interpret the models that deal with mathematics like tables, formulas, schemes, graphs
and they help to draw inferences from the models, it helps a quant to realize that there is a limit
with mathematical methods as well statistical methods and it provides several ways to solve the
problems like geometric, statistical and algebra.

It provides a wide look at things and gets a more and accurate understanding on the ongoing event.
At most time, misinterpretation of statistical data causes wrong results (Blanche, 2011). Some of
data (statistic data) may be biased in relation to opinion despite the misconception that statistics
displays a true measure regarding certain research. Not all the statistical numerals that the person
analyzing data can be able to notice, lack of further explanation can lead to misinterpretation of data
thus wrong decision making. Also bad sampling can too lead to misinterpretation of data for most
samples assume that the whole population possesses the same characteristics as the sample. At the
other hand use of definitional terms that are not in relation to the information being used can lead
too to misinterpretation of statistical data. This has been seen most in elections where there is
miscounted statistical data that results to false election.

The First Three Phases Of The War, The Bohemian Phase (...
The thirty years war was an important conflict in the Holy Roman Empire that started in 1618 and
ended in 1648. It was fought between the German states and the Emperor; it was fought between
Catholics and Protestants, and it was also fought between outside nations against each other. The
thirty years war started with religious rivalries between Catholics and Protestants with some
political ambitions, but eventually developed mainly into a war of dynastic ambitions with many
groups attempting to gain political power over their opponents. The first three phases of the war,
the Bohemian phase (1618 1625), the Danish phase (1625 1629), and the Swedish Phase (1630
1635) were mainly fought over religious reasons with Catholics on one side and Protestants on the
other. Lutheranism was accepted in the Holy Roman Empiresince the Peace of Augsburg in 1555,
but Calvinism wasn t. However, many states still turned Calvinist, including the Palatinate whose
ruler was one of the seven people that elected the Holy Roman Emperor. In 1608, led by the
Palatinate, the protestant groups formed a protestant union. The Protestant states wanted to gain
more rights and weaken the empire by remaining independent. In response, some Catholic states
formed the Catholic union in 1609 led by Bavaria. The Austrian Habsburgs wanted to completely
eradicate Protestantism that was threatening the stability of their Empire. The tension between
these two sides was what caused war to break out when the

African Elephants:
Guess what can weigh about 3 cars and can be 13 feet tall? The African elephant. The height and

is by the ear shape. They are shaped like the land of Africa. The African elephantis also the largest

Their Body:
African elephants body is large in size, has big ears, and a long trunk. A full grown one can weight
about 6 tons and is 13 feet tall. They have teeth on the inside and the outside of their bodies!
They have only four on the inside and two on the outside of their mouths. The teeth that are on
the outside of their mouth are called tusks and they weigh about 40 to 44 pounds for a female but
the largest one recorded was 220 pounds. However, the teeth on the inside weigh about a much as
a brick! They use their ears to cool themselves when they get hot by flapping them. Another way
they stay cool is by spraying themselves with water because they start to feel unbearably hot a lot
sooner than a human. The African elephant is able to live in dry or hotter climates because their
bodies can go without water for a long time. The elephant s skin is as thick as one inch but is every

Essay On Infective Endocarditis
National statistics of maintaining a lifestyle of poor diet, little exercise, and frequent drug use
are steadily climbing. Increases in lipid and cholesterol intake, as well as decreases in regular
physical activity is causing an increase in obesity and disease with widely known effects. 1 These
behaviors are deeply rooted in the cause of heartdiseases. It has been shown through animal testing
that a high lipid, calcium, and carbohydrate increases the incidence of aortic valvehardening,
thickening, and lipidemic lesion formation. 2 Obesity is alarmingly prevalent in children at or

Infective endocarditis is an infection of microorganisms, whether it be bacterial or viral, which
form colonies within the endothelial lining of the heart tissue. This initiates an immune response
that causes the infected sites to grow. Figure 1 8 shows vegetations on the aortic valve which
prevent it from functioning properly. Without the ability to fully seal during diastole, blood is
pulled back through the aortic valve from the aorta. This disrupts the pressure in the left ventricle
in such a way that creates unnecessary stress on the muscle. Infective endocarditis that is present on
the right side of the heart (including the aortic valve) is of highest incidence within the population
of recreational intravenous drug users at 46% 78% of reported cases. 9 The risk of infective
endocarditis causing vegetation on and around the aortic valve increases after valve replacement
surgery. A study done in Australia observed 2443 aortic valve replacement surgeries, taking into
consideration their pre and post operation condition. Of said patients, 3.7% developed infective
endocarditis. All valve prostheses were either of allograft (human), xenograft (porcine, bovine, or
equine), or mechanical design (composite synthetics), the xenograft being the most popular.

Archetypes In King Arthur And Odysseus
Archetypes have persisted in literary works through the sands of time and continue to be applied in
today s literature. Throughout traditional and modern literature, the formulaic structure of myths
and the use of archetypes has been utilized in a consistent manner. Although many would argue that
the universal application of archetypes has been erratic and intermittent through time, the
implementation of the major hero and mentor archetypes within the tale of King Arthur and The
Odyssey, and the refined utilization of archetypes in modern literature, exhibit the universality of
archetypes in different cultures and time periods.
The hero archetype in both the tale of King Arthur and The Odyssey exemplifies its omnitude in
British and Greek culture respectively. Although each hero delineates his own culture s values
during different times, it is evident that both share similar qualities and traits pertaining to the hero
archetype. In Homer s The Odyssey, Odysseusis representative of the Greek values of rule through
Gods and Goddesses. In contrast, King Arthur represents British values of rule without the
significant influence of supernatural beings. Granted that each story contains nearly opposite
values, the hero archetype is still able to resonate in both characters. One of the main heroic aspects
portrayed by each character is their dynamic personalities. Both King Arthur and Odysseus are
distinguished as vigorous, audacious, and most importantly wise in each of their

The Viewer Is The Witness In Night And Fog
How the Viewer is the Witness in Night and Fog Alain Resnais Night and Fog is a Holocaust
documentary shot in 1955 that served as a lens into the hellish landscape of the Holocaust. It was
shot with footage of the Holocaust combined with a voiceover narration that provides a detailed
look into the horrors of the Holocaust. The filmproved to be a success but it struggled through
censorship due to its inherent gruesome nature. This is because the film uses various techniques in
such a way that the viewer of the film feel that they themselves have become witnesses of these
tragedies, as opposed to just being a viewer of a documentary about the Holocaust, thus making the
viewer experience of the film much more impactful. Traditional documentaries use interviews and
first hand witness accounts to tell the story, but Night and Fog does not. It presents everything
objectively and lets the powerful, fast paced cinematography and narration tell the story. Another
technique used is the rapid juxtaposition shots from the past and present, thus giving the film a
sense of timelessness. The last technique used is toward the end when the narrator asks the
harrowing question whether or not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Night and Fog refrains from all of this, and accomplishes its goal of educating about the Holocaust
by simply showing horror after horror after horror of the Holocaust, giving the viewer no time to
digest and process the information. Without anytime for the viewer to breathe, the fast pace makes
for a truly painful viewing experience which is precisely what the director intended. Some
documentaries might refrain from the utmost revolting of content for fear of deterring their viewers
but Night and Fog never censors the unquestionable reality of the past. Even though the film is only
half an hour long, this stylization allows the film to encompass plenty of information about the

Marriage And Arranged Marriages
So this topic that I have been wanting to address for awhile. I was talking to a friend the other
day about the whole dating aspect of BYU Idaho as well as just in the Mormon community. Now
my friend grew up outside of the church and so she has seen both the Mormon culture of dating
as well as the way that the world does it. Now she pointed out to me something that I never really
thought of before. She told me that it almost seems like we are so focused on the aspect of dating
and getting married because in our culture that is something that we strongly believe in because of
the covenants that we make with marriage. She said that we are in a sense having these arranged
type of marriages, in the sense that everyone around us is telling us to date this person or that
person or get married because it is a commandment and we are making these decisions not
because we truly love this person or we even truly believe that we want to get married, or even
fully understand the promises we will be making to that person and also to God. We aren t fully
making this decision because we truly believe that it is a good choice but because others around
us think so and to me that does seem a little bit like an arranged marriage.
I m not totally knocking arranged marriages because there are a lot of people out there who make
them work, even more than people who choose the person that they marry. The only thing I
disagree with arranged marriages is the fact that agency is taken out of marriage,

The Innumerable Meanings of Moby Dick Essay
The Innumerable Meanings of Moby Dick
Call me Ishmael. The first line of this story begins with an assertion of self identity. Before the
second page is reached, it becomes quite clear to me that within this assertion of self identity lay an
enticing universality. Ishmael represents every man somehow and no man entirely. He is an
individual in his own right, while personifying a basic human desire for something more, something
extraordinary. As his name implies, he is an outcast from a great family (p.18). Although we all
share Ishmael s yearning for adventure (however deeply hidden it may be), to throw aside our
civilization (despite its discontents ) could mean societal suicide. So, we look through his eyes, we

When our world becomes too restrictive and society s dictates threaten to overwhelm him, rather
than lashing out at his fellow landlocked prisoners he quietly takes the ship (p. 18). And for those
too apprehensive to leave the safety and steadiness of land, Ishmael recounts his adventure so that
others can vicariously experience his freedom.
Here we have come across one of the many wonders of story telling: Stories allow us to see
things we might not have the audacity to see ourselves and to become things well beyond our own
perceived potential. And so we turn to stories to fill our voids, to quench the fires of our hopes and
dreams, to calm our restless spirits. We might choose security rather than spontaneity and comfort
rather than jeopardy, but we are able to do so and remain sane only with promise of participation in
something outside of ourselves.
Through our relationships to the boundless expanse inherent in the telling of stories, the great
flood gates of the wonder world swing open (p. 20). The story of Moby Dick is particularly
compelling, as it presents us with the ungraspable phantom of life and then subsequently offers us
the key to it all (p. 20). Through a first person narrative dictating a story intrinsically linked to the
universality of human restlessness, Melville offers each of us a window of reprieve. We may
choose to take it as an important life lesson and throw caution and practicality to the wind in

Bryant Thanatopsis Theme
William Cullen Bryant in Thanatopsis, represents the romantic era theme of the love of nature. He
appreciates the beauty of nature and explains how nature teaches truths that are universal to
everyone. It is a poem that focuses on finding comfort in nature for death. He concludes by stating
that man should live life and be fulfilled in the things they ve done, not regretting things that have
been done during their lives.
In Thanatopsis, Bryant accurately depicts the romantic era s theme of a love for nature. He
reveals this theme first and foremost in the way he finds nature as a source of joy. Thanaptopsis is
a meditation on death. He recognizes the beauty of nature and finds joy in nature as a lover for
nature. Bryant begins is poem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He feels when one dies, he is very lonely because no one goes with him; however, he comes to
realize that man is not lonely because the earth is decorated with several beautiful elements of
nature. He describes the earth as the great tomb of man (51). He also gives a scenario when one
dies in the midst of nowhere and no one ever finds the individual just like a situation where a
client has a run of ventricular tachycardia which ends up being fatal and leads to death of the
client. The death occurred because no one was around to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation
(CPR) on the client within the window, Bryant says this death is lonely but the earth, nature, will
provide you with company from all the elements present. Bryant uses a metaphorical statement,
as the long train of ages glide away, the sons of men, the youth in life s green spring, and he who
goes in the full strength of years, matron, and maid, the speechless babe, and the gray headed
man, shall one by one be gathered to thy side, by those who in their turn shall follow them (51), to
emphasize that death will come. No matter what age, whether you be a newborn or an elderly
individual, death will knock on your door

What Does Mrs Potato Head Mean
Mrs. Potato Head is a song by the musical artist Melanie Martinez, from her Crybaby album,
which I enjoy listening to for its dark themes mixed with innocent and childlike elements. This
song is a part of the album s collective story following a girl named Crybaby, and her experiences
with many issues such as poor family structure, loneliness, heartbreak, and societal pressures.
This song specifically follows Crybaby taking in the societal pressures to be beautiful, and
trying to understand the messages of it and if it is worth all the changes she would have to make
to herself. Mrs. Potato Head is a look at how modern society s beauty standards for women are
observed and questioned through the eyes of a young girl; it shows us how far people... Show more

At the end of many lines, there are also multiple dactylic feet, sexual and vegetable (Martinez 5
7), creating an aloof sing song pattern which does not often sound appropriate for serious
subject matter (Literary). The sing song pattern contradicting the very serious subject of this
song are how Melanie s songs usually sound. The disruption of patterns and volatile tones of her
songs achieve a unique perspective for her listeners. I believe it s a way to make people see how
chaotic life can be, exposing the fact that we like to believe we have total control over our lives
when we don t. We can be easily influenced by others. There is also a pattern of iambic feet in key
portions of the song, particularly where Crybaby is asking Mrs. and Mr. Potato Head whether
the pain and money are worth their perfect looks, and if their love lasts beyond those looks: tell
me and pain is on line 12, afford on line 16, and you ll stay on line 17 all examples of the happy
sounding feet surrounded by mostly trochaic (somber) or anapestic (child like) feet (Writer). This
small pattern can symbolize the innocence and hope Crybaby is putting into beauty not being too
painful, and love not disappearing once beauty has

Solution Focused Therapy And Experiential Therapy
This term paper is about solution focused therapy and experiential therapy. In solution focused
therapy, the therapy does not emphasize the problem at all; it stresses and highlights the solution.
The client is the expert and not the therapist. The experiential approach is often used to facilitate
meaningful changes in individuals. SFBT is a short term goal focused therapeutic approach which
directs clients to focus on developing solutions, rather than on dwelling on problems. The
theoretical framework, how change occurs, therapeutic techniques, postmodern perspective, the role
of the therapist and some clinical examples are given in this term paper.
My Family Therapy Models Term Paper on Solution Focused Therapy and Experiential Therapy
Family therapy is a technique that has many alternative approaches to every aspect of treatment
which Nichols (2014), states may present a challenge when describing a basic technique. The two
models of family therapy in which I feel that I would be most effective and comfortable with
would be, experiential family therapy and solution focused brief therapy. I feel most comfortable
with these models because, I adapt to the role of the therapist of both therapies naturally. According
to Nichols (2014), when families seek therapy they are stuck in a life cycle transition, sometimes
they are obvious and sometimes they are not obvious. I ve found that during the first session an
excellent question is to ask the client why now so that they can

How Is Adolf Hitler Related To The Rise Of The Nazi Party
Anton Drexlers establishment of the National Socialist German Workers Party in 1920, brought
about the rise of Adolf Hitler who led the most significant German political party of the twentieth
century. By famous historians such as Alan Bullock, the Nazi Party is regarded as an organized
conspiracy against the State which pursued power and position, for the sole object was to secure
power by one means or another. Therefore, it may be misunderstood that Hitler and his Party gained
considerable support, thereby controlled the Weimar Republicfrom its creation until the end of
World War ||. There is a large degree of truth that Hitler gained support from 1919 to 1923, when the

Holbrook s and Rose s perspectives on democracy is that some people are taking advantage of
what they have which isn t fair for the people who struggle to maintain their lifestyle with less,
while other people have more opportunities/privileges. Holbrook s response on democracy is that
she feels that they should have equal rights, just as she does. She finds it wrong that the government
is careless when it comes to the people that they think don t need the resources, supplies, when
they really do. To add on to, Holbrook writes on page 114, That same government that issues us

The US College Enrollment and the Third Law of Demand A theorem proposed by Professors
Alchian and Allen in their text, University Economics (1964) has had several rebirths of interest

The Pros And Cons Of Language Pedagovation
Kurt Lewin(1942), was known as the founder of social psychology, he also proposed the theory that
behavior of the person is generated from different interactions of the learner and his environment.
He suggested that learning should be observed holistically with relation to the psychological factors
of the learners environment and also the other factor that effect the learners behavior.
Jean Piaget s(Piaget s Duckworth, 1970), genetic epistemology also finds a relation between the
learning process and the interaction with the environment. Piaget s theory denies this factor that the
knowledge already exists in the society or it is inborn characteristic of the learner.

The concept of language motivation already exists and adds nothing new in the acculturation and
language motivation or in the existing knowledge.
Then in the start of 1960s to 1980s, Gardner presented and remolded the socio educational model,
the most influential model of language learning motivation in the already existing literature
(Keblawi; 2009, p. 12). Through this model, Gardner (1985a, p. 8) explains language motivation as
a combination of effort plus desire to achieve the goal of learning the language plus favorable
attitudes towards learning the language .
With the further description of integrative and instrumental motivation, it refers to the wish of the
learner to interact and communicate with the natives of the target language for the assimilation of
the language. On the other hand, the instrumental motivation is described with the functional point
of view of getting a better job and handsome salary or getting the success in the examination and for
getting supremacy and good status in the society (Keblawi,

Classical music was known to be used in churches or for fanciful distractions during his time
frame. However he changed it to where now it is an emotional art form, very popular to the
world to listen to his music for pleasure and not of distraction. Without Beethoven pushing the
boundaries todays classical music could still be lacking in the emotions and expressions that
Beethoven put into his work. It is said that he was the link between romantic and classical
musical art. Not only did he influence the classical music, but he has influenced all music in
today s world. All music goes back to the basics of classical music. The tempo and the notes that
were most commonly used in Beethoven s work can be heard throughout songs of hip hop nature.
Beethoven may not have lead an easy life but he was very influential to the musical world.
Beethoven was known for his deafness and being a great composer but he was so much more than
these common stereotypes. As this paper has shown Beethoven was not only a human being, but a
human being that had to overcome many obstacles. Everyone should know what he did during his
life to get recognition that he was able to reach. One should know that he worked hard and life was

Some hold the position that this method is inhumane and should not be allowed. However, others

While animal cruelty is the largest issue that arises from factory farming, there are also many other
problems that stem from this type of production such as environmental impacts. With this type of
food production, modern animal agriculture puts an incredible strain on natural resources like land,
water, and fossil fuel (Factory Farming). This is causing non reversible environmental damage such
as contaminating water supplies and producing mass amounts of exhaust due to production. These
practices are going unnoticed by both the government and the companies responsible. Laws and
regulations for the environment are not doing their job and need to be changed in order to save the
resources that future generations have a right to experience. The industry as a whole stand idly by
as they destroy the environment by the practices they perform. This puts a major strain on the fight
against environmental degradation by the lack of regard for conserving what is not the industries to

equally affected. Some of the impacts that transpire from factory farming include an increase in
respiratory, neurobehavioral, and mental illness among the residents of communities next to factory

Reconstruction And Reconstruction
The Emancipation Proclamation of 1863, issued by Abraham Lincoln, launched the United
States into a groundbreaking point in history where blacks were no longer to be considered
property, but free individuals. Following the Civil War, The Reconstruction Era was led by
President Andrew Johnson and spanned the time between 1865 and 1877. This period was an
attempt to rejoin the Southern Confederates with the Union, as well as to haul blacks from a
status of subjugation to become active participants in the American society. On a broad scale,
Reconstruction helped blacks to gain freedom; they obtained citizenship and had a political role in
society. However, on a narrower level, this period failed in achieving its goal. Blacks continued to
be segregated socially and weren t treated as equals to their white counterparts.
During the Reconstruction era, a series of laws were passed to give blacks a position in political
American society. These laws were implemented into the Constitution as the Thirteenth, Fourteenth
and Fifteenth Amendments. The thirteenth amendment was added at the start of Reconstruction in
1865. It strengthened the emancipation proclamation, officially abolishing slavery. In 1868, the
fourteenth amendment made all people born in the U.S. American citizens and are therefore
equally protected under the law and entitled to vote if they are male and over twenty one years of
age. This included blacks. The fifteenth amendment reinforced the fourteenth by mandating

State after the Second World War which was the turning point (watershed) in British History. The
freshly appointed Labour government by then took on the job of setting up a welfare state that

As much as the five giant differs from each other, there is a connection between the five of them,
for example, unemployment in society causes people to lack financially and this can lead to
lack of good medical care, want, poor housing and etc. The Five giant evils; Want, essentially
this refers to poverty or lack, during the post war a lot of the British people were in need, they
had no basic financial support and health care to keep them alive as well as keeping them above
the poverty line by which income does not cover necessities. Due to lack of financial support
people could not afford education and this resulted in lack of knowledge which is referred to as
Ignorance, this was due to poor education. To make matter worst there was no national health
care because, this had to be paid for, but there was no money and medical care was not free and
this led to the outbreak of many diseases such as cholera, this was also linked to want, no money
no medical care. Nevertheless, there were hospitals and only the rich in society could afford

Arid Climate
The Arid climate has irregular seasons. Say for instance, the Sahara Desert is mainly always hot
and dry. However, some areas change in temperature depending on the latitude, and surrounding
climate. So the two main seasons, summer and winter.
Can range from as hot as 130 degrees, to as cool as negative 30 degrees. Also, latitude determines
what the temperature and seasons will be like.
Is the main factor that determines Arid climate. An area must receive less than 10 inches in a year
to be Arid. However. Some don t receive any rain.
Because the temperatures are so dry, there aren t many plant life here. But, a vast majority of the
plants consist of shrubs, bushes, and grasses. Examples are the Saguaro Cactus, the Prickly Pear,

Similarities Between the Scottsboro Boys and Tom Robinson...
There are many similarities between the Scottsboro trial and the trial of Tom Robinson in the
novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. No crime in American history let alone a crime that never
occurred produced as many trials, convictions, reversals, and retrials as did an alleged gang rape of
two white girls by nine black teenagers on a Southern railroad freight run on March 25, 1931
(Linder 1). The author of To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee, was a young girl during the
Scottsboro trial and based the trial of Tom Robinson in her novel off of the Scottsboro trial of
1931. The three main similarities between the Scottsboro trial and the trial of Tom Robinson are the
geographic settings, the portrayal of racism, and the specifics of the court... Show more content on

Both trials were based off of false accusations against black men. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Tom
Robinson was accused of rape by Mayella Ewell. And in the Scottsboro trial Charles Weems,
Clarence Norris, Andy Wright, Ozie Powelll, Olen Montgomery, Eugene Williams, Willie
Roberson, Roy Wright, and Haywood Patterson were accused of rape by Ruby Bates and Victoria
Price, a known prostitute. The witnesses for the state have presented themselves to you gentlemen,
to this court, on the cynical confidence that their testimony would not be doubted, confident that
you gentlemen would go along with them on the assumption the evil assumption that all Negros
lie, that all Negros are basically immoral beings, that all Negro men are not to be trusted around
our women, an assumption one associates with minds of their caliber (Lee 204). This quote was
stated by Atticus in To Kill a Mockingbird in the court and he is stating the beliefs of most people
in the south during the Great Depression. These trials took place during a time of segregation and
racism so most people took the side of the white women. Both of the juries and judges for these
trials were white. Because of this, the accused had no chance of getting equal treatment or justice.
The last and most important similarity between the Tom Robinson trial and the Scottsboro trial is
the similarities within the court.

History of The Ancient Religion Called Wicca
One of the greatest myths precipitated about Wicca is that it is an ancient religion. Wicca is not an
ancient religion. It has no ties to medieval or even pre ‐Christian religious beliefs. Wicca was
inspired by a theory of Margaret Murray, who proposed that there was one organized Cult of Diana.
This idea is largely dismissed as inaccurate and Murray s work is considered by scholars to be full
of factual errors.
Where Wicca began, is with Gerald Gardner in the early 1950 s. Gardner was stationed in India
for several years and while he was there, he studied the Hindu religion. He also had an interest in
magick and the occult . Once he returned to England and retired, he was initiated into a coven of
witches in 1939. This coven was practicing magick and rituals from fragments of undetermined
origin. Gardner took these fragments and fleshed them out, adding and changing them until he
had something that was workable and more spiritually fulfilling than just the fragments. His
work was heavily influenced by Murray s work as well as Leland s Aradia: Gospel of the
Witches and his studies into high ceremonial magick, Hinduism, and the work of Alastair
Crowley. Crowley s work features fairly prominently in Gardner s work and there is debate about
whether or not Gardner hired Crowley, just conversed with him, or possibly stole his work to use.
These filled in rituals received another re ‐write in the mid to late 50 s when Gardner initiated
Doreen Valiente into his coven.

It was curiosity, and a recommendation from an upper classman, that brought me to the Engage

difference in the community as well as stepping out of my comfort zone and exploring new
experiences. Engage Chicago provides a perfect opportunity to achieve my goals for the summer.

THE O.J. SIMPSON TRIAL
On June 12,1994, Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were murdered. Their bodies
were discovered outside Nicole Simpson s condominium. Nicole Simpson was the estranged wife
of the famous football player and T.V. star O.J. Simpson. The people directly involved with this
case are Judge Lance Ito, the prosecution lawyers, Marcia Clark and Christopher Darden, the
defense lawyers, Johnnie Cochran, Robert Shapiro and Robert Blasier , the jury and the defendant,

Defence lawyers say Mark Fuhrman was the chief conspirator and depict him as a racist with a
motive to put a bloody glove on O.J. s property. Fuhrman testified under oath that he did not use
any racial slurs in the past ten years but tapes, clearly depicting Fuhrman s racial slurs, prove
otherwise. The defence s theory that he planted the glove is unsupported by any evidence.
Detective Philip Vannatter testified that he didn t consider O.J. a suspect when police entered
his estate without a warrant. Defence called upon Craig and Larry Fiato s testimony to try and
prove that Vannatter was one of many investigators who assumed Simpson was the killer and
later lied to cover up their motives for a warrantless search of O.J. s property. The defence
suggested that Vannatter carried a vial of O.J. s blood and used it to stain pieces of evidence.
The defence suggested that the police pulled a pair of socks out of O.J. s hamper, sprinkled them
with blood and then placed them at the foot of his bed. The prosecution has set out a very specific
timeline. They say Simpson could have committed the murders, rushed back to his place, slipped
inside and got ready to meet a limousine that was waiting to take him to the airport all within this
timeline. The defence says this makes no sense. The defence has a series of witnesses who were
near the condominium at the hour in question and saw

Argumentative Essay Zoos
Do zoos benefit and improve the lives of animals, or are they catastrophic and disastrous to all
these creatures? This has been a huge debate ever since zoos have been created. Numerous people
believe they are horrid and an issue to animals. In reality, zoos benefit and improve the lives of
these animals for a great amount of reasons.
To illustrate, zoos promote animal conservation. Most animals that have lived in a zoo never
experienced the wild. According to the Conversation, it implies, Everyone believes the wild is a
safer habitat than in zoos, despite drastic threats of climate change, increased poaching, and
destruction of animal s habitats for palm oil. Other examples of how zoos promote animal
conservation are how after ten years of hard work to support and strengthen the amount of
endangered California condors, a type of vulture, the Los Angeles and San Diego zoos have
increased the population from about two dozen to about 170 birds (Are Zoos Good or Bad for
Animals?). In addition, there are 232 accredited zoos with Association of Zoos and Aquariums

The Coronation Of Haile Selassie I As Emperor Of Ethiopia
The Rastafarian tradition was born in the early 1930s with the coronation of Haile Selassie I as
emperor of Ethiopia. Although, not initially a religious movement, its religious future was
prophesied by a western black political activist named Marcus Garvey when, in a newspaper article
and after frequent correspondence with Selassie, he stated, The Psalmist prophesied that Princes
would come out of Egypt and Ethiopia would stretch forth her hands unto God. We have no doubt
that the time is now come. Ethiopia is now stretching forth her hands. It is a religious tradition that
is Afrocentric in its upbringing and focuses on defending and protecting the dignity of Africans and
those of African ancestry. The religion itself holds many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rastafarian tradition is one that is founded and built upon the respect of all peoples. It is a new
religion that has seen rapid change since its conception and continues to see change even today.
This paper will explain how gender is understood in the Rastafarian tradition both at its inception
and today. Despite the fact that Rastafarian ideology states that respect of all people is necessary
in the ethic code, women are often left out of the traditions and practices. As said by Tracey
Nicholson of women in Rasta culture, If serious business is at hand, it is likely that women will
not be . It is hard to believe that the religion could lean one way or another based on gender
because it started as a conscious social movement that dealt solely with the horrors of the
oppression and exploitation of an entire race. Women, during the inception of the religion, were
seen as inferior, they were kept in a place of subordination and a realm of domestication for a
long time. Despite this fact, the role of women in the tradition is a bit indecisive in and of itself.
Chevannes, in his book Rastafari: Roots and Ideology, states, On the one hand, women are
respected, perhaps even feared, for their powers of fertility and command greater allegiance and
love from males and females alike than do their male counterparts. This idea that women are
somehow higher beings because of their child bearing abilities is prevalent throughout Rastafarian
ideology. They are bestowed with titles

Essay on Artillery and Weapons of the Civil War
Every war, though happens for a reason and bring a better change, is often gruesome. The Civil
War broke America in two groups and, at the time, was the war with the most casualties and injured
men. As the fight to preserve the Union progressed, so did a number of other areas, such as
weaponry and artillery. The advanced technology produced through the Civil War assisted in
increasing number of casualties. The North was more fortuitous than the South in multitudinous
ways. One of which includes the fact that their industrial society allowed them to produce a larger
amount of weapons of a higher quality. One of the major reasons the Union triumphantly defeated
the Confederate army was because of their more superior types of weapons. A... Show more content

Unfortunately, the South had a large disadvantage in this area. The Confederacy was dependent on
stolen weapons to fight in the war (Morgan). Although the South advanced in agriculture, this did
not assist them in producing a high quality and quantity of weaponry and artillery.
Artillery caused a greater commotion than weaponry amongst people. It was better at targeting and
accurately shooting targets. The Parrott rifle, as previously mentioned, was used frequently yet was
unpopular amongst the soldiers. As a solution, the 3 inch Ordnance replaced the Parrott rifle. This
cannon was more accurate and had a longer range, up to about 2,300 yards. It was a hundred
pounds lighter than the Parrott. The Union army produced about a thousand Ordnances. Lacking
the technology, the Confederates did not and could not produce them. However, the Ordnance
was unnecessary during most battles since the shooter had to see his target in order to shoot
with any accuracy (Morgan). The Ordnance, though not necessary, was a commonly used
weapon. In order to solve the flaws of the Ordnance, the Napoleon was created. It is believed that
the Napoleon was the cause of more artillery casualties than all the other models combined
during the Civil War. It could fire as far as 1700 yards, but was deadly accurate within a range of
300 yards. The Napoleon was a favorite amongst some Northern artillerists because of

  • 2. Concrete Nouns Concrete nouns can be physically touched and detailed. Concrete nouns can also have different meanings to anyone that reads them, looks at them, or touches them. A story is created by a series of concrete nouns coming together. First, my favorite concreate noun is heart. Heart is my favorite because the heart feels love or feels broken. The heart is also what you would use for passion and most people would listen to their heart to decide whether their action or emotion is right or wrong. Secondly, the heart works for me because I try to listen to my heart as frequently as I can. My heart has the intentions to make me happy and show me who I truly care about. the heart also works for everyone else because everyone has a heart to use, but it might also express emotions differently from somebody else. The heart is also relatable when in a discussion because it is experienced by everybody in different ways. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lastly, I think the point of this activity was to build a bigger picture with the small subjects given. This will help me become a better writer by assisting me by looking at the bigger picture and by looking at a different perspective. The concrete nouns enable people to create a solid story built by their own memories or emotions while abstract nouns make them look at the endless stream of possibilities making it difficult to understand the moral or meaning behind the story, because it could mean ... • 3. Figurative Language In Hamlet Authors express the complexities of being human by using figurative language. figurative language exaggerates feelings or just simply expresses them in a way compared to something else so you understand the way the character feels. Figurative language can take one emotion and describe it in many different ways. For example one feeling can be expressed using a smile, metaphor, personification, or any literary device. In Hamlet Act 1, he expresses his dismay on how his mother could go from being married to a man who is so much less King Hamlet. He says My fathers brother, but no more like my father than I to Hercules. This is a simile that means his uncle that is now married to his mom is nothing like the man his father, King Hamlet was. • 4. Self Objectification Paper How the Medias Standard of Beauty Leads to Self Objectification and Eating Disorders Article One. An impressive set of researchers, Antonios Dakanalis, Giuseppe CarrГ , Rachel Calogero, Roberta Fida, Massimo Clerici, Maria Assunta Zanetti, and Giuseppe Riva, hypothesized that societal standards of beauty are leading to self objectification and subsequent eating disorders. Specifically, there experiment attempts to answer the question of whether the internalization of media idealized images result in negative body images and self objectification among middle adolescents that can lead to eating disorders (Dakanalis et al., 2014, p. 1). Researchers Dirk Smeesters and Naomi Mandel in their study titled Positive and Negative Media Image Effects on the Self aimed to show how exposure to media images of models of different body types effect self esteem. It is significant because it measures both the positive and negative effects that body ideal standards represented by the media has on self esteem. Additionally, the research is interesting because it not only measures the effects of the thin ideal but also measures the effects that different, some might say more realistic, body types have on self esteem. Dirk and Smeesters hypothesized that When completing a free response measure, participants will demonstrate higher self esteem after exposure to moderately thin models than after exposure to moderately heavy models and lower self esteem after exposure to extremely thin models than after exposure to extremely heavy models (Smeesters Mandel, 2006, p. 2). To test this hypothesis, in a blind study, experimenters exposed women to pictorial images of models of varying sizes to measure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Differences Of Disneyland And Disneyland Families have different preferences to what they like either fantasy or real animal experience. Some families like to bring back childhood experiences at Disneyland. While others seem to like the adventures at SeaWorld and getting that 1 on 1 experience with wildlife. Both amusement parks are alike with one another because both parks offer an amazing shows and spectaculars to see, but both of those parks are not the same thing. Disneyland is referred to the happiest place on Earth because children s favorite Disney characters come to life. Kids and adults can experience a magical day at Disneyland taking pictures with the famous Mickey Mouse and watch their parades around the park through out the day. At night time families watch the amazing firework show. Even though Disneyland gives families to enjoy Disney characters in life it s costly if you have big families. Just by staying at the Disneyland resort is expensive just for a couple of days spent there. There are several fun rides to go on all over the park, but with those fun rides are very long lines that take ages to advance closer to the rides. Once upon a favorite ride, it seems that it doesn t last long enough for the wait. With, the food is very pricy inside the park as well as Disney souvenirs and clothing. Its highly recommended to eat outside the park and buy any clothing or souvenirs at stores outside of Disneyland. Other than those reasons Disneyland gives an experience that could never be forgotten for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Destruction Of The Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant The destruction of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in March 2011, caused by an earthquake and subsequent tsunami, resulted in massive radioactive contamination of the Japanese mainland. In November 2011, the Japanese Science Ministry reported that long lived radioactive cesium had contaminated 11,580 square miles of the land surface of Japan. Approximately 4,500 square miles an area almost the size of Connecticut was found to have radiation levels that exceeded Japan s allowable exposure rate of 1 mSV (millisievert) per year. For perspective, 1 mSV is equivalent to 100 milliRem, which is the standard unit of dose used here at the shipyard. In a normal background radiation field, an individual is exposed to .02 milliRem/hr dose. Studies of the disaster have identified design changes, response actions and other safety improvements that could have reduced the amount of radioactivity released from the plant. As a result, nuclear plant safety requirements around the world have been reexamined, including here in the United States. Figure 1 shows normal operation of a reactor along with the meltdown process to put in to perspective the summary of Fukushima Daiichi disaster events. In Short it does something like this: The Tohoku earthquake, March 11 2011, triggered a tsunami both of which caused damage to the 4 power plants at Fukushima. She also uses anaphors and repetitions which magnifies her message and enhance her opinions Yes, I was going to stand for that Of course I was going to stand for it The intention behind this story must be the moral of it. The theme is to believe in yourself and stand by your principles. Even though she feels everything is against her, she decided to go back and sing even though she didn t want to. She had something in her, that was more important than to be scared, and that was to be a hero, a hero for herself because heroism was something she had in her family. • 8. Carl Freud And Freud s Three Stages Of Development The third stage of development in Freudian theory is the Phallic stage , which starts at the age of three and goes on until the age of six. During this particular stage according to Freud, children are said to take pleasure in their genitals and they also struggle with sexual desires, especially strong desires towards their opposite sex parent (girl desiring her father and boy desiring his mother). This kind of behavior in boys is called as Oedipus complex , which according to Freud means that the boys during this stage desire their mother and want to replace their fathers, who are seen to be seeking the mother s attention, because of this desire the boy is afraid that his father might find out and punish the boy by the process of castration(cutting off the penis) due to which they may develop castration anxiety. And the same desire called Electra complex which is the desire developed in girls for their fathers and in the thought of replacing their mothers is discussed during later on by Carl Jung. This stage helps in the development of Superego in life. The fourth stage of development according to Freudian theory is the Latency stage , which starts at age six and continued until puberty or twelve years of age. During this particular stage, the child s sexual desires than to subside and they start to additionally develop their conscience or superego. They begin to act and behave socially accepted by learning appropriate values from their parents or caregivers as their sex instincts are sublimated into hobbies, school activities, and sports and they also start focusing on developing and maintaining same sex friendships amongst their groups. The fifth and last stage of development according to the Freudian theory is the Genital stage , which starts from puberty to adulthood. During this particular stage, the sexual desire re emerges if every stage was developed correctly. In this stage, adolescents join in appropriate sexual behavior with their partners and develop a secure relationship which can later lead to lifelong commitment, marriage and focus more on reproducing their future offsprings through sexual intercourse. It was fought between the German states and the Emperor; it was fought between Catholics and Protestants, and it was also fought between outside nations against each other. The thirty years war started with religious rivalries between Catholics and Protestants with some political ambitions, but eventually developed mainly into a war of dynastic ambitions with many groups attempting to gain political power over their opponents. The first three phases of the war, the Bohemian phase (1618 1625), the Danish phase (1625 1629), and the Swedish Phase (1630 1635) were mainly fought over religious reasons with Catholics on one side and Protestants on the other. Lutheranism was accepted in the Holy Roman Empiresince the Peace of Augsburg in 1555, but Calvinism wasn t. However, many states still turned Calvinist, including the Palatinate whose ruler was one of the seven people that elected the Holy Roman Emperor. In 1608, led by the Palatinate, the protestant groups formed a protestant union. The Protestant states wanted to gain more rights and weaken the empire by remaining independent. In response, some Catholic states formed the Catholic union in 1609 led by Bavaria. • 18. Archetypes In King Arthur And Odysseus Archetypes have persisted in literary works through the sands of time and continue to be applied in today s literature. Throughout traditional and modern literature, the formulaic structure of myths and the use of archetypes has been utilized in a consistent manner. Although many would argue that the universal application of archetypes has been erratic and intermittent through time, the implementation of the major hero and mentor archetypes within the tale of King Arthur and The Odyssey, and the refined utilization of archetypes in modern literature, exhibit the universality of archetypes in different cultures and time periods. The hero archetype in both the tale of King Arthur and The Odyssey exemplifies its omnitude in British and Greek culture respectively. Although each hero delineates his own culture s values during different times, it is evident that both share similar qualities and traits pertaining to the hero archetype. In Homer s The Odyssey, Odysseusis representative of the Greek values of rule through Gods and Goddesses. In contrast, King Arthur represents British values of rule without the significant influence of supernatural beings. The Viewer Is The Witness In Night And Fog How the Viewer is the Witness in Night and Fog Alain Resnais Night and Fog is a Holocaust documentary shot in 1955 that served as a lens into the hellish landscape of the Holocaust. It was shot with footage of the Holocaust combined with a voiceover narration that provides a detailed look into the horrors of the Holocaust. The filmproved to be a success but it struggled through censorship due to its inherent gruesome nature. This is because the film uses various techniques in such a way that the viewer of the film feel that they themselves have become witnesses of these tragedies, as opposed to just being a viewer of a documentary about the Holocaust, thus making the viewer experience of the film much more impactful. Traditional documentaries use interviews and first hand witness accounts to tell the story, but Night and Fog does not. It presents everything objectively and lets the powerful, fast paced cinematography and narration tell the story. Another technique used is the rapid juxtaposition shots from the past and present, thus giving the film a sense of timelessness. The last technique used is toward the end when the narrator asks the harrowing question whether or not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Night and Fog refrains from all of this, and accomplishes its goal of educating about the Holocaust by simply showing horror after horror after horror of the Holocaust, giving the viewer no time to digest and process the information. • 20. Marriage And Arranged Marriages So this topic that I have been wanting to address for awhile. I was talking to a friend the other day about the whole dating aspect of BYU Idaho as well as just in the Mormon community. Now my friend grew up outside of the church and so she has seen both the Mormon culture of dating as well as the way that the world does it. Now she pointed out to me something that I never really thought of before. She told me that it almost seems like we are so focused on the aspect of dating and getting married because in our culture that is something that we strongly believe in because of the covenants that we make with marriage. She said that we are in a sense having these arranged type of marriages, in the sense that everyone around us is telling us to date this person or that person or get married because it is a commandment and we are making these decisions not because we truly love this person or we even truly believe that we want to get married, or even fully understand the promises we will be making to that person and also to God. We aren t fully making this decision because we truly believe that it is a good choice but because others around us think so and to me that does seem a little bit like an arranged marriage. I m not totally knocking arranged marriages because there are a lot of people out there who make them work, even more than people who choose the person that they marry. The only thing I disagree with arranged marriages is the fact that agency is taken out of marriage, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. The Innumerable Meanings of Moby Dick Essay The Innumerable Meanings of Moby Dick Call me Ishmael. The first line of this story begins with an assertion of self identity. Before the second page is reached, it becomes quite clear to me that within this assertion of self identity lay an enticing universality. Ishmael represents every man somehow and no man entirely. He is an individual in his own right, while personifying a basic human desire for something more, something extraordinary. As his name implies, he is an outcast from a great family (p.18). Although we all share Ishmael s yearning for adventure (however deeply hidden it may be), to throw aside our civilization (despite its discontents ) could mean societal suicide. So, we look through his eyes, we cling to his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When our world becomes too restrictive and society s dictates threaten to overwhelm him, rather than lashing out at his fellow landlocked prisoners he quietly takes the ship (p. 18). And for those too apprehensive to leave the safety and steadiness of land, Ishmael recounts his adventure so that others can vicariously experience his freedom. Here we have come across one of the many wonders of story telling: Stories allow us to see things we might not have the audacity to see ourselves and to become things well beyond our own perceived potential. And so we turn to stories to fill our voids, to quench the fires of our hopes and dreams, to calm our restless spirits. We might choose security rather than spontaneity and comfort rather than jeopardy, but we are able to do so and remain sane only with promise of participation in something outside of ourselves. Through our relationships to the boundless expanse inherent in the telling of stories, the great flood gates of the wonder world swing open (p. 20). The story of Moby Dick is particularly compelling, as it presents us with the ungraspable phantom of life and then subsequently offers us the key to it all (p. 20). Through a first person narrative dictating a story intrinsically linked to the universality of human restlessness, Melville offers each of us a window of reprieve. We may choose to take it as an important life lesson and throw caution and practicality to the wind in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Does Mrs Potato Head Mean Mrs. Potato Head is a song by the musical artist Melanie Martinez, from her Crybaby album, which I enjoy listening to for its dark themes mixed with innocent and childlike elements. This song is a part of the album s collective story following a girl named Crybaby, and her experiences with many issues such as poor family structure, loneliness, heartbreak, and societal pressures. This song specifically follows Crybaby taking in the societal pressures to be beautiful, and trying to understand the messages of it and if it is worth all the changes she would have to make to herself. Reconstruction And Reconstruction The Emancipation Proclamation of 1863, issued by Abraham Lincoln, launched the United States into a groundbreaking point in history where blacks were no longer to be considered property, but free individuals. Following the Civil War, The Reconstruction Era was led by President Andrew Johnson and spanned the time between 1865 and 1877. This period was an attempt to rejoin the Southern Confederates with the Union, as well as to haul blacks from a status of subjugation to become active participants in the American society. On a broad scale, Reconstruction helped blacks to gain freedom; they obtained citizenship and had a political role in society. However, on a narrower level, this period failed in achieving its goal. Blacks continued to be segregated socially and weren t treated as equals to their white counterparts. During the Reconstruction era, a series of laws were passed to give blacks a position in political American society. These laws were implemented into the Constitution as the Thirteenth, Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments. The thirteenth amendment was added at the start of Reconstruction in 1865. It strengthened the emancipation proclamation, officially abolishing slavery. No crime in American history let alone a crime that never occurred produced as many trials, convictions, reversals, and retrials as did an alleged gang rape of two white girls by nine black teenagers on a Southern railroad freight run on March 25, 1931 (Linder 1). The author of To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee, was a young girl during the Scottsboro trial and based the trial of Tom Robinson in her novel off of the Scottsboro trial of 1931. • 44. History of The Ancient Religion Called Wicca One of the greatest myths precipitated about Wicca is that it is an ancient religion. Wicca is not an ancient religion. It has no ties to medieval or even pre ‐Christian religious beliefs. Wicca was inspired by a theory of Margaret Murray, who proposed that there was one organized Cult of Diana. This idea is largely dismissed as inaccurate and Murray s work is considered by scholars to be full of factual errors. Where Wicca began, is with Gerald Gardner in the early 1950 s. Gardner was stationed in India for several years and while he was there, he studied the Hindu religion. He also had an interest in magick and the occult . Once he returned to England and retired, he was initiated into a coven of witches in 1939. This coven was practicing magick and rituals from fragments of undetermined origin. Gardner took these fragments and fleshed them out, adding and changing them until he had something that was workable and more spiritually fulfilling than just the fragments. His work was heavily influenced by Murray s work as well as Leland s Aradia: Gospel of the Witches and his studies into high ceremonial magick, Hinduism, and the work of Alastair Crowley. Crowley s work features fairly prominently in Gardner s work and there is debate about whether or not Gardner hired Crowley, just conversed with him, or possibly stole his work to use. These filled in rituals received another re ‐write in the mid to late 50 s when Gardner initiated Doreen Valiente into his coven. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The advanced technology produced through the Civil War assisted in increasing number of casualties. The North was more fortuitous than the South in multitudinous ways. Unfortunately, the South had a large disadvantage in this area. The Confederacy was dependent on stolen weapons to fight in the war (Morgan). Although the South advanced in agriculture, this did not assist them in producing a high quality and quantity of weaponry and artillery. Artillery caused a greater commotion than weaponry amongst people. It was better at targeting and accurately shooting targets. The Parrott rifle, as previously mentioned, was used frequently yet was unpopular amongst the soldiers. As a solution, the 3 inch Ordnance replaced the Parrott rifle. This cannon was more accurate and had a longer range, up to about 2,300 yards. It was a hundred pounds lighter than the Parrott. The Union army produced about a thousand Ordnances. Lacking the technology, the Confederates did not and could not produce them. However, the Ordnance was unnecessary during most battles since the shooter had to see his target in order to shoot with any accuracy (Morgan). The Ordnance, though not necessary, was a commonly used weapon. In order to solve the flaws of the Ordnance, the Napoleon was created. It is believed that the Napoleon was the cause of more artillery casualties than all the other models combined during the Civil War.
