Family Therapy In The Film The Laramie Project
The film The Laramie Project discusses the truth behind the horrific death of one of the worst
documented anti gay hate crimes in American history. Prior to his death, Matthew Shepard, was
attending the University of Wyoming, he had a great interest in political affairs, and was known to be
an outstanding member of the community. On the night of October 6, 1998, upon leaving a bar in
Laramie, Wyoming, Matthew Shepard was robbed, tortured, continuously beaten and terrorized by
Russel Henderson and Aaron McKinney. According to the transcripts from over 200 people in the
town of Laramie reported that many individuals in this particular town were raised not to agree with
homosexuality, although many of them also reported that even though they ... Show more content on

According to the American Psychological Association (APA), psychologists provide services with
populations and in areas only within the boundaries of their competence, based on their education,
training, supervised experience, consultation study, or professional experience, together with
safeguarding my understanding of factors associated with age, gender, gender identity, sexual
orientation, etc. (APA, 2017, 2.01a, 2.01b). Along the same lines, psychologists do not engage in
unfair discrimination or harassment based on age, gender, gender identify, sexual orientation, etc.
(APA, 2017, 3.01, 3.03). Thus, although in this case I would be treating Matthew s parents or family,
they were deeply affected by the outcome of a gruesome anti gay hate crime, therefore I would need to
ensure that I would not be inclined to discriminate in any way. Furthermore, even though at the time
of Matthew s assault there was not any legislation regarding hate crimes that referred to anti gay acts
and same sex marriage was not yet legalized, as an ethical psychologist it is important to remain
cognizant that regardless of any conflicts between ethics and the law or regulations, under no
circumstances should psychologists use said law or regulations to justify or defend the

The Impact of Puritans on the Development of America and its influence on modern society
The Puritans came to America in search of greater freedom for religious liberty. They felt unable to
worship and practice their theological perspectives as long as they were under the umbrella of the
Church of England. The puritans views with the Church of England began differ greatly and they felt
they could no longer be under their control. The Puritans decided that they needed to break free from
the Church of England and find a place where they could practice their religion without persecution or
interference. The new world in the American colonies provided a great opportunity for the Puritans to

They believed that the Church of England was moving toward the same doctrine as the Catholic
Church and they refused to be associated with that type of teaching. They believed the Church of
England worshipped idols and prayed to many gods, for example the Catholic Church praying to the
Saints. The Puritans broke away from the Church of England for these reasons and wanted a world
where there was one true God according to their religion. The new world in America offered the
Puritans this opportunity to be free from the Church of England and form their own communities
according to the way they viewed Christianity. The Puritan term comes from the belief that one should
remain pure in body and in thought to God. It was very important for them to live a life of strict order
and obedience to God and His Word in order to gain eternal life. The Puritans arrived in New England
and started to set up communities to practice their religion. The Puritans had no sooner landed in the
New World than they began coercively to purify their surroundings ( Rothbard, 1999) They purified
their surroundings by purging everyone who was not a Christian by setting up communities that
elusively Christian and ruled with a theocratic mindset.
The Massachusetts colony was organized in towns. The church conĀ¬gregation of each town selected

Short Essay About Muay Thai
Muay Thai Philippines
What is Muay Thai?
Muay Thai is a kind of martial arts practiced not only in Thailand but in large parts of the world
including Southeast Asian countries. This kind of martial arts is quite similar to some others kinds of
martial arts prevailed in Southeast Asia like Pradal serey in Cambodia, tomoi in Malaysia, Lao boxing
in Laos and lethwei in Mayanmar. Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand and has a long history.
Traditional Muay Thai is quite similar to Western boxing in terms of using kicks and punches with
gloves in fights which make Muay Thai more significant from the ancient art Muay Boran. Muay Thai
is also known as The Art of the Eight Limbs because of the extensively used of hands, shins, elbows,
and knees in this type of martial arts. The practitioners of Martial arts execute various types of fighting
styles including stand up strikes, clinches etc. Like many other disciplines of martial arts, Muay Thai
requires serious dedication and passion in order to learn this combat sport. Muay Thai philosophy is
very significant through turning the whole body into fatal weapons like hands serves as the swords,
elbows serve as hammers, knees, legs serve as axes and the forearms and shins are like armors in

Modern And Brazilian Jujutsu
There are three main types of Jujitsu: Traditional, Gendai or modern, and Brazilian . Traditional jujitsu
is considered a Japanese art just as kado, or flower arrangement; and chado, or tea ceremony. JuJitsu is
composed of techniques and moves such as joint locking, throwing, sweeping, chokes, and striking.
Weapon training is also a relevant although not necessary part of Jujutsu, typically, knife, sword, or
staff. The main goal or objective of Jujutsu is to defeat the enemy by any means necessary but also
using as little effort as possible. In JuJItsu techniques should never require one to have to be stronger
then the other member, in other words Jujitsu is about technique and manipulation and less about brute

understand that teaching is a good way to consolidate the knowledge you has gained up to this point.
You will also have developed counters to almost all the most commonly encountered techniques. This
means you will be one or two steps ahead of lower level opponents. You should also have several

Genesis Creation
The book of Genesis starts with God creating the heavens and the earth. He later creates man, Adam,
in His own image. Out of man He creates woman, Eve, and He blesses them. They live in the Garden
of Eden and are commanded to work and keep the grounds. However, Satan came in and tempted
them into sinning by eating the forbidden fruit. They are cast out of the garden, and God promises that
a man will come from His offspring to reconcile humanity back to God.
Adam s lineage continued and man becomes more evil and God could not endure watching man s
wickedness. Therefore, God planned to flood the whole world and make all things new again. This led
Him to anointing Noah to build an ark to save humanity and animals from extinction. The flood came

God also reminded Abraham of the promise He made back in the garden where a king shall come
from his line and Abraham forms a covenant with God that all males in his line shall be circumcised.
God keeps His promise and gives Abraham a son, Isaac and his son, Jacob; he was the younger
brother but got the blessing because he deceived his father. Years pass and Jacob wrestled with God
and demanded that He bless him and the Lord blessed him by fulfilling his promise to Abraham. The
Lord changed Jacob s name to Israel and from Israel came twelve sons which later are the twelve
tribes of Israel. Joseph, the youngest son, Jacob favors him and gives him a colorful coat and his
brothers become jealous and plan to kill Joseph. They end up selling him into slavery and the traveler
took Joseph to Egypt and was sold to Potiphar. As time passed he gained favor in the Pharaoh s eyes.
However, the Pharaoh s wife took notice of Jacob and she wanted him to sleep with her. When Jacob
denied, she made up a story to throw him in jail. While in jail he gained favor with the prisoners by
interpreting dreams. Pharaoh heard about it and made Joseph second in command in Egypt when he
predicted a devastating famine. Famine came to the land and he saves all of Egypt and his family.

Unintended Consequences
Pity from the Holocaust
A common argument for the Holocaust s causation in the creation of Israel and generous partition of
Palestine is the potential for nations to pity the Jews for their suffering. In truth, Zionism wasn t
offered any gains by the Holocaust. Not only was the genocide irrelevant to the argument of Zionism
to the rest of the world, but it also couldn t be pitied, as it was not yet understood. Overall, the
Palestine question and it was just that: a question regarding Palestine, not Israel was answered based
on the state of events in the Middle East. The events of the Holocaust in Europe were largely, if not

Israel is still a dynamic body. It manifests the very concept that clever management and tact are
inescapably valuable in all aspects of life, and if used correctly can be cast into resounding successes
from life s challenges. Attempting to achieve one s goals without consideration of others, additionally,
can be a grave mistake. It can harm entities in the surroundings without one even knowing it and
become a failure from a result that was a success in all other aspects.
The effects of the creation of Israel are still important today. The support of Israel from the United
States as well as the Partition and the creation of the State itself are sticking points with Arab nations
presently. The war of 47 and 48 is still a travesty for the Palestinians. Arabs were rife with sorrow
following their hopeless stance. They ve given the conflict the name ad naqba, or the
disaster/catastrophe (Altman 84, qtd. Tessler). The lives of Arabs, they argue, were inalterably
corrupted and defiled by the influx of external influence in the region, and they argue that the creation
of Israel was an event that both should never have happened and should be protested and fought
against. Immell states, [A] significant problem created by Israel s rise to independence is the lasting ill

To My Dear and Loving Husband by Anne Bradstreet
If ever two were one, then surely we.
If ever man were loved by wife, then thee;
If ever wife was happy in a man,
Compare with me ye women if you can.
I prize thy love more than whole mines of gold.
Or all the riches that the east doth hold.
My love is such that rivers cannot quench,
Nor ought but love from thee recompense
Thy love is such I can no way repay,
The heavens reward thee manifold I pray.
Then while we live, in love let s so persevere,
That when we live no more, we may live ever.

that in marriage, they are one. We also see throughout these lines that she gives her marriage as an
example If ever two were one , if ever man were loved by wife , if ever wife was happy in a man .
Compare with me ye women if you can.
In this verse the poet seems boastful of her relationship; she calls out to women in a bragging manner.
She sees her love as rare, personal. Something that very few other couples share.
To Anne Bradstreet, her husband is exactly what he should be; the love of her life. Over and over she
expresses her devotion to him with a repetition pf images; an example of such images is evident in the
following:
I prize thy love more than whole mines of gold.
Or all the riches that the east doth hold.
My love is such that rivers cannot quench,
In here she states that the love to her husband is much more precious than gold and all the riches of the
east. She would also accept nothing in return for the love that she and her husband share and that no
power would be able to destroy it, her love to her husband is indestructible and eternal.
Nor ought but love from thee recompense
Thy love is such I can no way repay,
The heavens reward thee manifold I pray.

Ky-Nos Castle Analysis
The Hauntings of Craig Y Nos Castle in Wales
By Claire Barrand
Craig Y Nos Castle which in Welsh, means Rock of the Night, Maintains a reputation as the Most
Haunted Castle in Wales, having been visited by Most Haunted, alongside numerous other TV shows
which have also filmed at the castle. My sister Linzi and I have investigated this location together
twice and have not been disappointed, in fact, we would have to say this location is in our top three for
paranormal activity!
The Early Years
The history itself is epic enough to inspire a Hollywood feature film. The story begins in 1840 when
the neo gothic castle, set beside the River Tawe on the edge of the breathtaking Brecon Beacons, was
built by an ambitious Captain Rice Davies. Using local limestone to form the impressive structure he
got carried away with turrets and pyramids and ran out of money being unable to complete the north
wing before moving in in 1843 to begin his life as a country gentleman.
Davies became a county magistrate and a High Sheriff of Brecknock. However, rumours of a curse on
the family spread as misfortune fell upon the family when his younger son died of cholera in 1851,
and he lost both his wife and his daughter to illness before he died in 1862.
Two years later, his Davies son died in a hunting accident on the Isle of Wight. Sarah, the eldest
daughter, and her husband Captain Allaway lived at the castle after his death, until disaster struck once
more and the Captain also died a few years later. His widow relocated to Tenby, and the property sold
in 1875 76, purchased by the Morgan family of Abercrave for Ā£6000.
The Adelina Patti Years
In 1878, the castle and its setting attracted the attentions of the leading opera star of that day Italian
Adelina Patti, who announced that she had found the home of her dreams and an offer of Ā£3500
accepted for the castle and surrounding parkland.
A demanding soprano with a colourful private life, she was said to have had numerous affairs
including one with the tenor Mario. The prima donna was the at the peak of her spectacular career and
desired to spend the rest of her life at Craig y nos. She built an incredible private theatre which held

Compare And Contrast Ancient Greece And Rome
The ancient Greeks and Romans were among the most influential civilizations in the history of the
world. Even though the Roman Empire eventually conquered Greece, Greek culture lived on within
the Empire. The Roman form of government was the foundation of the design of the United States
Senate. Ironically, the office of the President of the United States is the same as a tyrant in ancient
times, that is a person who appealed of the common people to gain power. The Greeks and Romans
had many differences, but there are also interesting similarities.
The way the Greek Empire fell in XXX XXX B.C. was very similar to how the Roman Empire fell in
XXX XXX A.D. Both Empires were suffering from weak economies. The Greeks had just ended a
civil war while the Romans on the other hand suffered from hyperinflation . Both Empires were
invaded by forces that mostly likely would not have attacked had the Empires not already been weak
militarily and economically. After the western part of the Roman Empire was conquered by Germanic
Tribes in XX A.D. the eastern part became the Byzantine Empire, which blended many cultures and
lasted for hundreds of years, ensuring that elements of Roman culture would survive. Similarly, after

Suicide And Teen Suicide
Talking about teen suicide can be a very uncomfortable subject to discuss. For those who have lost a
child or a teen close to them, or those in the middle of a battle for a teen s life. For those who are
afraid to bring the topic up with their teen for fear of planting ideas in their head. With assertive
sensitivity we will look at the statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on
suicide percentage rates in teens, possible warning signs to watch for, safety measures for teens in
crisis, seeking professional help, and last but most important, opening the lines of communication.

Nearly 60% of suicides in the United States are committed with a gun. Firearms should be kept in
lockboxes or safes that only you or another adult in the house has access to. Another very common
method for attempting suicide is over the counter prescription drugs should be stored in a safe place as

I know we all want to respect our teenager s space and do anything that would make the situation
worse or get them more upset than they already are. But, when teens are in crisis there is nothing
wrong with parents checking in their belongings for their safety. Nothing is more important than
saving a child s life. If at any point you feel your child in in immediate danger you should bring your
child to the emergency room. Remember, Prevention is worth a pound of cure. If you see warning
signs, talk to your teenager s Primary care. They can give you referrals to a Psychiatrist or other
mental health professional that can assist you. Make an appointment, if your child refuses to go, go by
yourself and discuss what s going on.

Conformity In Stargirl

Conformity is when a person changes him or herself to fit into a group. In order for someone to do
this, he or she usually has to give up one of their personal qualities. It is highly argued over whether
this is a good or a bad thing. One such book called Stargirl, demonstrates both the negative, and
positive side of conformity. In the novel, author Jerry Spinelli suggests that conformity isn t
necessarily a bad thing, many just use it to become a leader. When someone has conformed to fit into
a group they might not realize what they did. Some people conform subconsciously to a person. They
follow without knowing it. In the novel Stargirl, a boy named Wayne Parr was the leader of Mica High

three types of rental assistance programs that include privately owned subsidized housing, public

The housing choice voucher allows a housing subsidy to be paid directly to the landlord on behalf of a
local public housing agency. The public housing agency is able to make payments as the Department
of Housing and Urban Development federally funds the voucher program. After the subsidy is paid the
participant pays the difference between the actual rent and that paid by the subsidy. Upon receiving
the housing voucher the public housing agency determines a payment standard for the local housing
market chosen by the voucher participant. The payment standard, however doesn t limit the amount a
landlord may charge or the voucher holder s portion of payment. The housing voucher family
[participant] must pay 30% of its monthly adjusted gross income for rent and utilities, and if the unit
rent is greater than the payment standard the family is required to pay the additional amount (Housing

and morally affronted perspective. The theme of The Tyger is creation and the ability of divine figure
to create evil. The poem mainly focuses on the beauty and ferociousness of creation in general and
how we think we see the whole story. William Blake wrote this piece in the voice of a witness that
watched the making of the so called Tyger and what it has become. This witness describes to the
audience which is directed to society of what he/she sees in order to open their eyes to see the bigger
picture. The poem is written in a rhythm of both trochaic and iambic meter where the author purposely
changes the last line of each stanza in order to make that specific line stand out the most for the
audience to notice. The Tyger is composed of six stanzas, each containing four lines, and is written
with an AABB rhyme scheme. Many of the sentences are written as interrogative sentences as Blake
asks several rhetorical questions. Also, the first and last stanzas are almost identical, with the
exception of a single word, which emphasizes this text and at the end forces the reader to reevaluate
these words after reading the rest of the poem. The author uses words such as fearful, dread, and
deadly to draw an image for the reader that the creature is a beast capable of destruction. The first 2
lines begin with the repetition of the character ( Tyger, Tyger ). The repetition creates a chant like
mood to the whole poem, which contributes to the mysteriousness. It quotes burning bright (1) which
is an example of alliteration. This piece may describe the appearance of the Tyger as tigers have fiery
orange fur, or it may on a deeper analyzation describe a kind of energy or power that this Tyger
possesses. The Tyger s presence in the forests of the night (2) further increases the mystery and power
of the creature it s mysterious, while at the same time burning with some sort of inner force. The
speaker uses the symbolic character of a tiger as something so fearsome yet very beautiful. William
Blake is building on the idea that nature, like a work of art, can in some way contain a reflection of its

Comparing and Contrasting ā€œIn Cameraā€ by Nawal EL Saadawi...
Between these two stories In Camera by Nawal EL Saadawi and Punishment by Rabbindranath
Tagore, there are many similarities and differences. First, both of these two stories took place in the
Middle East country, Arab and India, which Arab is a monarchical country and India is a post
monarchical country. Meanwhile, both stories reflected about how women were treated in different
time, culture and country and how did the two protagonists fight against the injustice. What s more,
the women s placement is also a important topic which I would like to compare with. In the story In
Camera, Saadawi illustrated how women were treated by the legal system in Arabic country when
they did something against the system. The protagonist, Leila ... Show more content on

and ask Chandara whether she killed her sister in law or not, Chandara admitted the murder without
hesitation and regret. After the trial, Chandara refused to see Chidam as she was going to be executed
for the murder. However, this refers back to the title of the story, Punishment , which indicates that
Chidam who brings punishment down upon himself by losing the only woman he loved and even that
Chandara refuses to see him before the execution. Unlike the story In Camera , which Leila was
tortured by the government and the corrupt system under a monarchial nation, while in the story
Punishment Chandara was only ill treated and abused by her husband and no other external forces.
Tagore shows us abuse and ill treatment towards women only from immediate family. Like in the case
of Chandara where she was ill treated and abused by her husband. Her husband threatened her by
saying If I ever hear that you have been to the ghat on your own, I will break every bone in your body.
This quote shows that the abuse receives on a daily basis. The other two quotes, which refer back to
the title Punishment , is that when the judge asked Chandara who is he? He is my

Liesel Theme In The Book Thief
Book thief Liesel s life, in the book The Book Thief by Mark Zuasak, represented the beauty in the
wake of brutality. Liesel went through a lot of hardship but also saw some of the best things, as in the
meaning in friendship and many other things. She also when all odds were against her she would still
want to live unlike most people if they were put through some of stuff that she did. She also would
take things that were bad and turn them into something good into something that wasn t as awful as it
could ve been as she got older. Zuasak completes this by the way he tells her story and always by the
way he has Death tie in color with everything he was to see as he read Liesel s book. As Liesel was on

When Liesel had first started out in her new foster parents house she didn t trust anyone and didn t
have any friends. And she didn t really had any until Papa had started to coax her out of the car and
then started helping when she had nightmares and teaching her how to roll cigarettes. Then she had
found out the meaning of friendship and to be able to trust people again. Also when Max had come to
live with them and she had became very very close with Max. She would spend time with him in the
basement reading, writing, talking, and imagining things. She then had truly learned then what it was
like to become very close to someone. You saw the friendship start and then blossom. I think Mark
does a wonderful job at making this beautiful all the way through the book. At first he really makes
Liesel seem to have issues with people when she first arrived at her foster parents house. Then he has
where she begins to trust and go have friendships start to form. For instance, another point about the
beauty in her brutal story is that also when Liesel s family and first love had bombed to death. She had
found them dead when she was dug out of the rubble that was her house. And she saw them all before
she had her break down and was taken away from Himmel Street. Instead of wishing that she had

To sum up, same sex marriage has destroyed the traditional system of marriage. This cannot be solved
by adopting children, in addition, homosexual parents may lead the negative impacts to their adopted
child and may affect their childhood. Furthermore, labour force will be lowered if same sex marriage
be legalized since the amount of offspring are lowered cause the rate of traditional marriages
decreased. With less amount of labour force in the society, the productivity may also decreased.
Consequently, same sex marriage should not be legalized in Hong Kong.

Solar Power Appliances
Introduction
Founded in 1987 by a professor of electrical engineering at the University of Stanford, the SunPower
Company has lived to beat adversities and emerged as a formidable force to reckon with in the
provision of solar energy in the past few decades. Markedly, Dr. Richard Swanson acted on a market
gap and spearheaded the company s establishment from a research and development corporation to a
fully fledged production firm that produces and sells solar panels globally. Owing to worldwide
warming and climate change, there have been entrants in the same line of business that compete with
SunPower. As a result, a reduction in the company s market share occurred over the past decades.

Despite its marked development, the SunPower Company still experiences aggressive competition
from larger solar cells producers in the world. Since solar energy is a permanent solution to concerns
on climate change, there have been scores of entrants into the same line of business. For instance, the
company faces stiff competition from the Asian and Middle East countries. Some of its main
competitors include Sharp Solar, who is the chief competitor, Q cells, REC Cells, First cells, and Sun

Remember The Titans Reflection

The U.S. Since 1865
Professor Abdul Salaam
Remember the Titans is a film based on the true story of Coach Herman Boone, who takes on the task
of integrating a racially divided football team in order to achieve victory. In 1970, the Supreme Court
ruling in Swann v Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education permits busing students to achieve
racial integration in public schools. In 1971, T. C. Williams High School hires successful, black coach,
Herman Boone as head coach to lead the school s newly integrated football team, depriving Bill Yoast,
former head coach and nominee for the Virginia High School Hall of Fame, of the head coach
position. Yoast debates pursuing opportunities elsewhere, but when most of his white players vow to
sit out the season unless he coaches, he changes his mind and stays on as Boone s assistant and
defensive coordinator. Throughout training camp and the season, Boone and Yoast s black and white
players learn to accept each other, to work together, and that football knows no race. As they learn
from each other, Boone and Yoast also learn from them and in turn, the whole town learns from the
team, the Titans. During their practices, black and white football team members often clash in racial
conflicts. The biggest fights occur between the white captain, whom also acts as the unofficial leader
for the white football players, Gerry Bertier, and black player, whom also acts as the unofficial leader
for the black football

Why Was J. Edgar Hoover Played A Role In The Assassination...
It seems that J. Edgar Hoover had an obsession with stopping Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and the
Sothern Christian Leadership Conference, but why? How was the Federal Bureau of Investigations
linked to King and his Christian Conference? In the investigation of the assignation of King, many
suspicious activities from the FBI were uncovered. I will argue that King was wrongfully watched by
the FBI, J. Edgar had a personal vendetta against him, and ultimately, he played a role in the
assassination of King.
First, why was King under surveillance by J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI? The Federal Bureau claims
that Dr. Martin Luther King was initially monitored under its Racial Matters Program, which focused
on individuals and organizations involved in racial politics (FBI). Also, the FBI stated that the agency

Edgar Hoover played a role in the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It is fact that the FBI
and Hoover were running surveillance on King the day of the assassination and years prior to it. So,
how did the team not realize that an assassin was housed one building over from the Lorraine Motel?
Even more, how did this assassin, James Earl Ray, escape the murder scene and stay on the run for the
next two months? It all seems unreal to me. How incompetent is the Federal Bureau of Investigations?
It would be all too easy to believe but it is possible that a more sinister plot was formed. I think a
reasonable theory for why James Earl Ray was able to shoot King and escape from the law for two
months is because they let him. I believe that the FBI had evidence that King was being watched and
that an assassination attempt would be made that day. Hoover did not legally report this information
but instead drew away all law enforcement officers from the area. These irresponsible actions allowed
Ray a perfect time slot to assassinate King and benefit Hoover by eliminating one of his biggest

Israeli Security Concerns
Abstract The following essay takes a realist approach to the issue of Israel s refugee problem. The
essay addresses the security issue of the Right of Return where more than 4 million Palestinian termed
refugees clamor to return to their homes that they were displaced from during the 1948 war. Whilst
Palestinians demand the right to return to their Israeli located homes under the right of United Nations
General Assembly article 11 of Resolution 194, Israelis fear the displacement of their state by a huge
and exponential number of Palestinian refugees returning. The essay summarizes historical points that
constitute the problem. Analysis of the problems shows that the traditional definition of refugee has
been corrupted to suit UNRWA agenda where the refugee number has grown and will continue to
grow to absurd lengths. One policy therefore recommends that the UN amend this definition to reflect
a more solid reality. An alternate policy recommends that the UNRWA be replaced by its more
affective predecessor, the UNHRCA. The essay, too, recommends that America work in amending this
change since by so doing America will be assisting her own terrorist problem. Table of contents A

Literary Devices Used In The Hobbit
J.R.R. Tolkien wrote not only a series of books, but also created an entire fantasy land known as
Middle Earth. To make this far away land more tangible to the reader, Tolkien told the story from the
perspective of an omniscient narrator. By using the perspective of an omniscient narrator, Tolkien
wove different literary elements into the plot of The Lord of the Rings. Throughout the trilogy, J.R.R.
Tolkien uses various literary devices to bring to life his fantasy world, Middle Earth. John Ronald
Reuel Tolkien was born on January 3, 1892. Tolkien was born prematurely, but he was surprisingly

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie. (Tolkien 1)
In this poem, Tolkien describes the Ring as one would describe a person. Tolkien gives the Ring
several human characteristics. In line six of poem, Tolkien says that this Ring has the power to rule
over the people like a king. Tolkien also states in line six and seven that the Ring has the power to find
people and bring them together. He also says that the Ring ability to bind the people together even
through the darkness (Tolkien 1). By using personification, Tolkien was able to quite literally bring the
Ring to life. Tolkien uses irony throughout The Lord of the Rings, but particularly in the Prologue of
The Fellowship of the Rings. In this section of the book, he speaks of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins and of
finding the Ring. In this section of narration, Tolkien leads the reader to believe that the ring will be
found by people of diminutive size (Ari 1). Before Bilbo Baggins ever finds the ring, Gollum, who is
similar to the hobbits, finds the ring and takes it for himself. Gollum chose to use the Ring in a corrupt
way, but Bilbo Baggins chose to use the Ring for good. This is an example of situational irony,
because two similar characters take drastically different routes (Ari

Ethical behavior in the workplace is paramount to a successful organization. Commitment to
supporting ethical behavior in the workforce must be a top priority for all public service employees.
The ethical culture of the organization starts at the very top of the organization. The standards of the
agency are adhered to across the entire structure through fair and consistent ethical conduct as defined
by leadership. Effective leaders must demonstrate through their behavior that they believe what they

Retaliatory termination refers to firing an employee as revenge for an employee s protected activity.
Protected activities include such acts as refusing to participate in something illegal, reporting sexual

Aristotle Good Life Analysis
Contrary to popular belief, Aristotle is the father of modern psychology and took a very early crack at
helping folks achieve happiness. In Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle attempted to define the good life a
term that had a very different meaning then. Aristotle believed that happiness was determined by a
person s understanding of virtue and how closely their behaviors mirrored those virtues. Good action,
if practiced enough, turned into good habits which led to a good life even in suffering.
In other words, virtue was not simply a matter of what one believed but how one behaved. In striving
for identity, then, what you do is as important as what you believe.

The individuals charged with maintaining cohesion in this balancing act of freedom and order are the
same ones shaking the tree.
Part of what exacerbates the problem, even more, is the free and pluralistic nature of our society,

differences may exist, but the norms are largely reinforced and there are common core values that are
shared with the same degree of priority from household to household. We are also relatively young

My Experience As A Non-Traditional College Student
Seneca once noted that Travel and change of place impart new vigor to the mind. To me, that sums up

The Fire Breather By Garrett Morgan
Garrett Morgan, an inventor of the 20th century, saved many lives with his inventions. The Scope
article, The Fire Breather , Informational text, Could You Be the Next Garrett Morgan? and the
Discovery ED video Garrett Morgan all give good evidence on Garrett s most remarkable inventions
and his perseverance.
According to The Fire Breather , Garrett had to quit school when he was only in 6th grade in order to
support his family. When he was 18, Morgan moved from Ohio to Cleveland. Morgan then worked at
a factory in Cleveland as a janitor sweeping floors and paid a small pittance. At the factory, the sewing
machines broke down every once in awhile, so Morgan repaired them and eventually made a better on

Morgan often said If it s in a book, you can do it, if it s not, then use your imagination meaning that
don t give up, if you find it in a book, you can make it happen, if it s not, then make your own steps on
how to make it happen. If Garrett never went by this quote, fires would be more deadly than they are
now and car crashes would happen more often than they are now. Morgan made the first illuminated
traffic lights to direct traffic. How Morgan thought of this was when he witnessed a horrible car crash
leaving a poor girl in critical condition. With his Morgan s don t stop attitude and creativity, Morgan
found a solution to car accidents. To this day forward, we still use them today. Finally, Garrett created
the Gas Mask . Back then, fires were deadly due to the toxic gasses and of course the flames. Morgan
s gas mask was popular, but not well known. Then, Morgan had the chance to show that his invention
truly worked. When a mining tunnel blew up, the tunnel as filled with toxic gasses, many were either
passes out or they had died. Morgan got a call from the police officers at the scene at 3 O clock in the
morning, explaining what had happened. Morgan grabbed as many gas masks as possible and flew
down to the scene. Once he got there, 3 volunteers, volunteer to put on the gas masks, including
Garrett. After 15 minutes the volunteers went down, they came up the

The research will help identify why telecommuting is becoming a popular subject and why it is
desired for both employees and employers. Also to understand the differences of working in an office
environment or telecommuting and what the outcomes may be. If employers and employees fail to
have awareness of the challenges that come with telecommuting it can be damaging. Understanding
the challenges to help employers identify if telecommuting is beneficial or negative for their
employees. This paper has research of productivity, job satisfaction, and functionality of environment
regarding the subject of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More employees are converting to telecommuting due to a variety of reasons. The current business
paradigm shift recognizes that space and time no longer contractually define the mode and nature of
work. Workers do not have to go to where the work is instead, work is now sent to where the workers
are in homes, satellite offices, and neighborhood work centers, (Nyaanga, 2012). Author Solomon
makes a valid point in his article since many people do not want to do the daily commute five to six
days a week. Not only does it waste actual work time, money for transportation, but also the
convenience capabilities for employees. The convenience certainly applies to employees who do not
live close to the office setting or live in a very populated area with heavy traffic.
Telecommuting Advantages
For over 30 years, the workplace has undergone a series of transformations such as the integration of
technology into business work design, product innovation, development, processes, performance,
delivery, productivity, creativity, competitiveness, and worker flexibility, (Nyaanga, 2012). Having the
technology accessible to the Intel of employee s homes enables more employees to have the
capabilities

Childhood In Harry Potter
The Heroic Childhood: Joseph Campbell s Hero Characteristics in Rowling s Harry Potter J.K.
Rowling s Harry Potter demonstrates the characteristics of a hero as described by Joseph Campbell in
The Hero With A Thousand Faces. These characteristics are largely demonstrated in the hero s
childhood though they extend through the hero s journey. Mostly, the hero must grow up as an orphan
or an outsider and endure a difficult childhood as a result of this. The child s guardians are often cruel
or ignorant of the child s needs. By surviving loneliness the hero will learn kindness and empathy
which will allow him to build important relationships with peers and mentors. The hero s isolation
from the society to which they belong will develop the child s humility and consequently their ability
to ask for assistance. However, the hero must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These childhood events are all important to this development, however the most significant is the
isolation of the hero as an orphan. Not only does this loneliness teach the hero how to be kind, but the
hero learns the value of loyalty. The hero does not have a family to rely on and thus the friendships
built with empathy and loyalty are the most important ones to the hero and his quest. These friends
offer crucial assistance to the hero s success and since the hero has learned humility from years of
hardship he is able to ask for help. Since the hero is an outsider, he does not benefit from power
structures in place, they are more than willing to break apart any biased societal norms. The hero has a
greater insight into unjust societies since they can view them from outside instead of within. Without
the hardships of the hero s childhood they would not develop heroic characteristics and thus would not
be successful in their

The American Constitution Essay

Political Science 300: The American Constitution
12/01/2016
Marijuana
Throughout the history of the republic, there has been controversy between state and federal power.
The state and federal power has been an ongoing dilemma regarding the separation of powers since
the beginning of the constitution. An issue was brought to the Supreme Court of the United States
(SCOTOS) that could change the future of upcoming court cases. There has been question whether the
Constitution grants certain laws as void or not. Others question whether the Constitution should
evolve, concurrent as the United States has evolved since the establishment of the constitution.
Colorado passed the legalization of marijuana in 2012 (The Controlled Substance Act (CSA):
Overview). Nebraska and Oklahoma challenged Colorado s legalization of recreational marijuana for
over stepping their state power (Nebraska and Oklahoma v. Colorado). Because of the impact that this
case could have on upcoming cases, the Supreme Court refused to hear the case under Art. III sec. two
of the Constitutions, which elaborates on their original jurisdiction (Nebraska and Oklahoma v.
Colorado). Upon the refusal of SCOTOS to hear Nebraska s and Oklahoma s challenge on Colorado s
legalization of marijuana, the federal court will support the states challenge due to Colorado s
violation of the controlled substance act, Colorado over stepping its 10th amendment rights, and
Colorado s attempt to regulate a

The belt loops, waistband, back panel, pockets, and leggings of the jeans will be all made of indigo
dyed denim. The zipper will be produced using the finest spandex that will allow for room and
comfort. They will also be produced with a button fly style. The fastening of the jeans will be
designed using only removable designer buttons and rivets at the original opening, and additional
removable designer buttons with an extended fastener that will rest in the belt loop. Two additional
removable designer buttons and rivets will be supplied and attached to the sales tag on the back panel.
In an effort to reduce the concern of lost buttons and rivets after the purchase, Levi Strauss will also
design and market an array of replaceable designer buttons and rivets at all retail outlets that sell the
jeans. LS amp; Co. currently sells women s jeans in the same space as men and children jeans.
However, there is a need for specialization in women s sizes. With the success of the current maternity

Personal Narrative-Cloudy Day In Vermont
It was another cloudy yet chilly day in Vermont. Snow could be seen covering roads and the roofs of
several buildings that I had passed by. Whilst on a bandwagon, I was makin my way towards the
Vermont train station. Feeling a gust of wind pass by, I heard the sound of a train coming to a stop
skreeee . In a swift motion, I whipped the reins in my hand, commanding my stallions to come to a
halt. Tlot tlot tlot! As I stood patiently by the station, I could hear the conductor instruct, This marks
our stop! Carefully grab your luggages and make your way towards the exits! One by one, passengers
stepped off the train, bustling around in a hurry until one of them appeared to be Elizabeth. Glancing
over the people waiting, finally she had made eye contact with me, Over here, Betsy! I hollered. Uncle
Henry! she exclaimed, quickly grabbing her belongings and making her way over. ... Show more

Betsy struggles lots at home, so I often hafta help her out. It s become so daily that she s become way

Virginia Satir s Family Therapy Model
John Banmen said Virginia Satir, the pioneer of conjoint family therapy, has, over the years taught,
and developed a family therapy system based on the belief that people have the resources to move
their life patterns from a basic survival level to a higher level of becoming more fully human. A brief
overview of Satir s work will define communication and self esteem as Satir would use them, create
an understanding of family dynamics, which allows the reader to fully conceptualize how Satir s put
her theory into practice.
Satir breaks down communications, the giving and receiving information, into 2 categories; the
denotive and the metacommunitive. Congruent communications occurs when the denotive message

This conflict between mates leaves the child feeling at risk of losing one or both parents. Children see
themselves as the only pain relief or distraction for their parents. Kids feel over whelmed, especially if
addressing their own need is seen as misbehavior. This misbehavior the families see as a problem and
bring them to therapy. In this model the misbehaving child (the identified patient or IP) is not the
problem. Not coping with is the problem. (Banman 1987). Satir operate[s] from the assumption that
when there is pain in the family, all family members feel it in some way (Satir, 1967). This means the
therapists work is to help family understand that most family problem are a derivative of a struggling
relationships. The IP, responsible for the family s homeostasis, family balance , develops symptoms
such as drug abuse or depression and low self esteem due to the pressure of this responsibility.
Individual change for the IP is difficult because as the IP starts to improve, the IP puts the family s
homeostasis in jeopardy. Other family members take action to retain homeostasis by pressuring the IP
to revert back to old family norms via threats or guilt. Most family therapy issues are not a result of
pathology but of dysfunctional relationships caused by poor communication and low self esteem. Satir
puts greater effort into teaching, modeling and repairing

Latin American Immigration And The Growth Of The Latino...
Critical Response
Latin American immigration to the United States and the growth of the latino and hispanic population
is currently one of the most controversial topics being debated right now. What started as a small,
regionally concentrated population of fewer 6 million in 1960, is now broadly scattered population of
more than 50 million. Latino population keeps growing and exerting enormous impact on social,
cultural, political, and economic aspects in the U.S. However, unlike what a lot of people think, Latino
immigration to the United states is more than a population s aspirations to the american dream, it has
been influenced by multiple factors such as national, regional, and global developments, the history of
the U.S. military and its foreign policy in the Western Hemisphere, the controversial history of
international border enforcement. When latino immigrants get to the United States, they make it their
nation. However, their nation often fails to protect them and their interests, as well as embrace them.
In this essay, I will explore in detail the various factors that drove the Latino community to immigrate
to the U.S., and how the role of the U.S. as their nation shapes their experience.
Latino migration to the United States has been largely influenced by the economic and political unrest
Latin American countries have experienced and still experience. Latin American countries are still
experiencing things as drug wars, dictatorships, etc. To Latinos, the U.S. is

  • 2. Family Therapy In The Film The Laramie Project The film The Laramie Project discusses the truth behind the horrific death of one of the worst documented anti gay hate crimes in American history. Prior to his death, Matthew Shepard, was attending the University of Wyoming, he had a great interest in political affairs, and was known to be an outstanding member of the community. On the night of October 6, 1998, upon leaving a bar in Laramie, Wyoming, Matthew Shepard was robbed, tortured, continuously beaten and terrorized by Russel Henderson and Aaron McKinney. According to the transcripts from over 200 people in the town of Laramie reported that many individuals in this particular town were raised not to agree with homosexuality, although many of them also reported that even though they ... Along the same lines, psychologists do not engage in unfair discrimination or harassment based on age, gender, gender identify, sexual orientation, etc. (APA, 2017, 3.01, 3.03). Thus, although in this case I would be treating Matthew s parents or family, they were deeply affected by the outcome of a gruesome anti gay hate crime, therefore I would need to ensure that I would not be inclined to discriminate in any way. Furthermore, even though at the time of Matthew s assault there was not any legislation regarding hate crimes that referred to anti gay acts and same sex marriage was not yet legalized, as an ethical psychologist it is important to remain cognizant that regardless of any conflicts between ethics and the law or regulations, under no circumstances should psychologists use said law or regulations to justify or defend the ... The Impact of Puritans on the Development of America and its influence on modern society The Puritans came to America in search of greater freedom for religious liberty. They felt unable to worship and practice their theological perspectives as long as they were under the umbrella of the Church of England. The puritans views with the Church of England began differ greatly and they felt they could no longer be under their control. They believed that the Church of England was moving toward the same doctrine as the Catholic Church and they refused to be associated with that type of teaching. They believed the Church of England worshipped idols and prayed to many gods, for example the Catholic Church praying to the Saints. The Puritans broke away from the Church of England for these reasons and wanted a world where there was one true God according to their religion. The new world in America offered the Puritans this opportunity to be free from the Church of England and form their own communities according to the way they viewed Christianity. The Puritan term comes from the belief that one should remain pure in body and in thought to God. It was very important for them to live a life of strict order and obedience to God and His Word in order to gain eternal life. The Puritans arrived in New England and started to set up communities to practice their religion. The Puritans had no sooner landed in the New World than they began coercively to purify their surroundings ( Rothbard, 1999) They purified their surroundings by purging everyone who was not a Christian by setting up communities that elusively Christian and ruled with a theocratic mindset. Ky-Nos Castle Analysis The Hauntings of Craig Y Nos Castle in Wales By Claire Barrand Craig Y Nos Castle which in Welsh, means Rock of the Night, Maintains a reputation as the Most Haunted Castle in Wales, having been visited by Most Haunted, alongside numerous other TV shows which have also filmed at the castle. My sister Linzi and I have investigated this location together twice and have not been disappointed, in fact, we would have to say this location is in our top three for paranormal activity! The Early Years The history itself is epic enough to inspire a Hollywood feature film. The story begins in 1840 when the neo gothic castle, set beside the River Tawe on the edge of the breathtaking Brecon Beacons, was built by an ambitious Captain Rice Davies. Using local limestone to form the impressive structure he got carried away with turrets and pyramids and ran out of money being unable to complete the north wing before moving in in 1843 to begin his life as a country gentleman. Davies became a county magistrate and a High Sheriff of Brecknock. However, rumours of a curse on the family spread as misfortune fell upon the family when his younger son died of cholera in 1851, and he lost both his wife and his daughter to illness before he died in 1862. Two years later, his Davies son died in a hunting accident on the Isle of Wight. Sarah, the eldest daughter, and her husband Captain Allaway lived at the castle after his death, until disaster struck once more and the Captain also died a few years later. His widow relocated to Tenby, and the property sold in 1875 76, purchased by the Morgan family of Abercrave for Ā£6000. The Adelina Patti Years In 1878, the castle and its setting attracted the attentions of the leading opera star of that day Italian Adelina Patti, who announced that she had found the home of her dreams and an offer of Ā£3500 accepted for the castle and surrounding parkland. A demanding soprano with a colourful private life, she was said to have had numerous affairs including one with the tenor Mario. Even though the Roman Empire eventually conquered Greece, Greek culture lived on within the Empire. The Roman form of government was the foundation of the design of the United States Senate. Ironically, the office of the President of the United States is the same as a tyrant in ancient times, that is a person who appealed of the common people to gain power. The Greeks and Romans had many differences, but there are also interesting similarities. The way the Greek Empire fell in XXX XXX B.C. was very similar to how the Roman Empire fell in XXX XXX A.D. Both Empires were suffering from weak economies. The Greeks had just ended a civil war while the Romans on the other hand suffered from hyperinflation . Both Empires were invaded by forces that mostly likely would not have attacked had the Empires not already been weak militarily and economically. • 22. The Tyger Poem Analysis This poem dramatizes the conflict between the divine perspective and the speaker s terrified human and morally affronted perspective. The theme of The Tyger is creation and the ability of divine figure to create evil. The poem mainly focuses on the beauty and ferociousness of creation in general and how we think we see the whole story. William Blake wrote this piece in the voice of a witness that watched the making of the so called Tyger and what it has become. This witness describes to the audience which is directed to society of what he/she sees in order to open their eyes to see the bigger picture. The poem is written in a rhythm of both trochaic and iambic meter where the author purposely changes the last line of each stanza in order to make that specific line stand out the most for the audience to notice. The Tyger is composed of six stanzas, each containing four lines, and is written with an AABB rhyme scheme. Many of the sentences are written as interrogative sentences as Blake asks several rhetorical questions. Also, the first and last stanzas are almost identical, with the exception of a single word, which emphasizes this text and at the end forces the reader to reevaluate these words after reading the rest of the poem. The author uses words such as fearful, dread, and deadly to draw an image for the reader that the creature is a beast capable of destruction. The first 2 lines begin with the repetition of the character ( Tyger, Tyger ). The repetition creates a chant like mood to the whole poem, which contributes to the mysteriousness. It quotes burning bright (1) which is an example of alliteration. This piece may describe the appearance of the Tyger as tigers have fiery orange fur, or it may on a deeper analyzation describe a kind of energy or power that this Tyger possesses. The Tyger s presence in the forests of the night (2) further increases the mystery and power of the creature it s mysterious, while at the same time burning with some sort of inner force. The speaker uses the symbolic character of a tiger as something so fearsome yet very beautiful. In 1970, the Supreme Court ruling in Swann v Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education permits busing students to achieve racial integration in public schools. In 1971, T. C. Williams High School hires successful, black coach, Herman Boone as head coach to lead the school s newly integrated football team, depriving Bill Yoast, former head coach and nominee for the Virginia High School Hall of Fame, of the head coach position. Yoast debates pursuing opportunities elsewhere, but when most of his white players vow to sit out the season unless he coaches, he changes his mind and stays on as Boone s assistant and defensive coordinator. Throughout training camp and the season, Boone and Yoast s black and white players learn to accept each other, to work together, and that football knows no race. As they learn from each other, Boone and Yoast also learn from them and in turn, the whole town learns from the team, the Titans. The essay addresses the security issue of the Right of Return where more than 4 million Palestinian termed refugees clamor to return to their homes that they were displaced from during the 1948 war. Whilst Palestinians demand the right to return to their Israeli located homes under the right of United Nations General Assembly article 11 of Resolution 194, Israelis fear the displacement of their state by a huge and exponential number of Palestinian refugees returning. The essay summarizes historical points that constitute the problem. Analysis of the problems shows that the traditional definition of refugee has been corrupted to suit UNRWA agenda where the refugee number has grown and will continue to grow to absurd lengths. One policy therefore recommends that the UN amend this definition to reflect a more solid reality. An alternate policy recommends that the UNRWA be replaced by its more affective predecessor, the UNHRCA. The essay, too, recommends that America work in amending this change since by so doing America will be assisting her own terrorist problem. • 38. Aristotle Good Life Analysis Contrary to popular belief, Aristotle is the father of modern psychology and took a very early crack at helping folks achieve happiness. In Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle attempted to define the good life a term that had a very different meaning then. Aristotle believed that happiness was determined by a person s understanding of virtue and how closely their behaviors mirrored those virtues. Good action, if practiced enough, turned into good habits which led to a good life even in suffering. In other words, virtue was not simply a matter of what one believed but how one behaved. In this model the misbehaving child (the identified patient or IP) is not the problem. Not coping with is the problem. (Banman 1987). Critical Response Latin American immigration to the United States and the growth of the latino and hispanic population is currently one of the most controversial topics being debated right now. What started as a small, regionally concentrated population of fewer 6 million in 1960, is now broadly scattered population of more than 50 million. Latino population keeps growing and exerting enormous impact on social, cultural, political, and economic aspects in the U.S. However, unlike what a lot of people think, Latino immigration to the United states is more than a population s aspirations to the american dream, it has been influenced by multiple factors such as national, regional, and global developments, the history of the U.S. military and its foreign policy in the Western Hemisphere, the controversial history of international border enforcement. When latino immigrants get to the United States, they make it their nation. However, their nation often fails to protect them and their interests, as well as embrace them. In this essay, I will explore in detail the various factors that drove the Latino community to immigrate to the U.S., and how the role of the U.S. as their nation shapes their experience.
