Experiment to Determine How Heart Rate is Affected by...
Throughout this investigation, I will be conducting a number of experiments to help solve whether or
not heart rate is affected by exercise. My aim is to identify the difference of every volunteer s heart
rate and take down how old they are so I can evaluate whether or not the age of a person make a
difference in their bpm (beats per minute).
Many people know when you exercise for long periods of time; your breathing becomes more shallow
and quick. The main human organ system used when exercising is the respiratory system. There are
two types of respiration your body can carry out, aerobic, with oxygen, and anaerobic, without. The
reason for getting tired from exercise is because when the body runs out of the oxygen it needs,
anaerobic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The exercise I have chosen to do throughout this investigation is skipping (jumping). The reason I
have chosen this specific activity is because I think it will produce more interesting results than a basic
exercise, such as running.
I managed to gather a total of 10 people to help conduct my experiment. Four people for year 9, three
for year 7 and three for sixth form. The reason I have chosen at least three people per age group is
because it is the smallest number of people you can have to find an accurate average. As said, I have
chosen four people for the year 9 age group. This is because the heart rates of the first original three
people varied far more than in the other two groups. I then decided to bring a fourth person so they
could help justify my results and show they are as valid as possible.
There are three variables in my experiment. The amount of time, the pulse rate and the age of the
people. I asked my volunteers to skip for five short but different periods of time. These time periods
varied from 30 seconds to 2 and a half minutes. I asked the people who had volunteered to jump for
the given time, and straight after jumping, count their pulse rate for 20 seconds (which was timed) and
I would then multiply it by three, to give a total of 60 secind/1 minute.
You can see the results fit very well with what was expected to occur. You could see that the heart rate
was increasing the

Christopher Mcdougall s Born To Run
Born to Run by Christopher McDougall is a nonfiction book about how Chris searches throughout the
world on the journey to find out why does your foot hurt. In this book, Chris travels the world in
search of the best runners and stumbles across barefoot runners, which totally revolutionised what he
believed was good for your feet. This search brought him to Mexico s Copper Canyons. Christopher,
on his journey to find out what makes your feet hurt, met the Tarahumara people who were the tribal
people of Northwestern Mexican Mountains, famous for their long distance running. The Tarahumara
people lived isolated from western societies, living in caves and living and growing their own food of
corn, potatoes and beans. Running for Tarahumara

American Imperialism In Australia Essay
The reasons for colonisation by the Spanish in the Americas and the British in Australia had many
similarities. These similar factors included, improving trade routes, expanding their colonies for
wealth and power and obtaining new resources. In addition, both groups wanted to explore beyond
their own country. However, there were also a few big differences. For example, the British used
Australia for the keeping of convicts, due to the overcrowded prisons in their own country. They also
wanted to claim the land, preventing settlement in Australia from other countries, such as the
Netherlands (Dutch). An aim for the Spanish, in the Americas, was to convert more people to
Christianity, as well as becoming more well known and important. In the ... Show more content on

In both the Americas and Australia, the native dwellers were forced to relocate and adapt to new
circumstances, due to the taking of land by the Europeans, who felt that they had the right to, due to
their self proclaimed superiority. The weapons of the Aztec and the Aboriginal cultures were also
influenced in big ways after the colonisation; as they adopted many of the settlers more technological
weaponry. The Indigenous in the Americas and Australia were forced to change their religious beliefs,
and become Christians. The Aboriginals in Australia were sent to mission stations, and were made to
forget their own beliefs and traditions, which were seen as nomadic to the British.
The Indigenous people were thought to be inferior by the colonisers, and as a result, were the victims
of injust treatment. In both situations, the Indigenous people were met with torture and abuse, as well
as manipulation. Their rights were cruelly taken away and they were forced to become slaves for the
colonisers, who took advantage of the skills and abilities of the Indigenous people. In Australia, the
Indigenous Aboriginals were poisoned and hunted by the European settlers, and were victims of racist

Southern Charm Or False Living Analysis
Southern Charm or False Living? Luigi Pirandello once said Anyone can be heroic from time to time,
but a gentleman is something you have to be all the time. I think this quote truly sums up what our
culture lacks today. Anyone can do something nice once in a while, but it takes a true spirit of valor to
serve and love those around them all the time. Southern Culture tends to have this impression that all
men are gentlemen, and the ladies are all charming and gracefully kind. This then begs the question;
what does a true gentlemen or lady look like? In my opinion these types of people serve other
unconditionally, respect those in authority over them, and a true gentlemen loves the Lord most of all.
Second Throughout life one of the hardest things to do, is to respect those over us. Whether our
parents, bosses, or even when we disagree politically with our leaders, we are called to honor them.
Often times those who respect those over them, without griping or complaining, are the true
gentlemen or ladies of today s culture. When I m around complainer, it totally changes the way I look
at my leaders, or even sometimes peers. I start to not want to listen to what they tell me, or I m always
talking behind their back instead of respecting the role they have over me. Thus true people with
southern charm tend to have a positive outlook ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When in a crowded room, I can pick out who is a Christian, and who is not simply by the attitude they
presume. Christians have this unexplainable joy in their lives, which permeates everything they do.
Whether at work, in the car, or in their homes, true gentlefolk live their lives to please the one who
made them, and not to please man. However, this does not mean they do not serve their fellow man.
On the contrary, this makes them love God s image bearers more. Therefore, a true follower of Christ
can be called nothing other than a gentleman, or

Vivian Bearing Character Analysis
The plot of W;t starts with Vivian Bearing being diagnosed with stage four metastatic ovarian cancer.
She goes through eight cycles of an aggressive experimental chemotherapy. While this aggressive
chemotherapy will not cure her, she is able to provide much needed research in this specific cancer
field.
When asked to evaluate each character from this play and if they are good or not is very challenging.
When dealing with someone with a terminal illness, people definitely act differently. E.M. Ashford is
a professor of literature and a mentor of Vivian. Being the mentor, he helped her get through school
and, while she was dying, was there caring for Vivian. Reading her a book to ease the pain and
comforting her. In my eyes, this makes him ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Did the cancer unrightfully take her life? Vivian dedicated herself to educating herself and others. She
spends many years studying John Donne and her courses were considered some of the hardest at the
university. She is very unfamiliar with the field of medicine and asks many questions while she is
being treated so she can understand better as to what is going on. While she may come off as stand
offish, she has a really good meaning at heart. Teachers today don t get paid near as much as they
should, having to deal with all the students problems as well as trying to educate them and deal with
your own problems is very tough. She wants to leave an impression on every student she teaches and
she has to contemplate that question in her head as she s being treated. Will she be remembered as
being a good professor and a good mentor like Ashford was to her? She comes off as not scared and
braces the cancer with a tough face, but as the play goes on you can tell she s scared to pass away and
was just hiding behind her wit and knowledge, because that s what she does. She has to make tough
decisions throughout the play and had to think about what she wanted in life. She decided to sign a
DNR or do not resuscitate because she knew the cancer was going to get her anyway and wanted the
suffering to end. She is a good character because she has a big heart to see herself grow and others as

Heavy Price of Defense Spending Cuts by Victor Davis Hanson
Renowned historian and classicist scholar Victor Davis Hanson s January 11, 2012 commentary
entitled Heavy Price of Defense Spending Cuts: Nations That Choose Butter over Guns Atrophy and
Die warrants a thoughtful analysis of its merits and shortcomings by U.S. military officers entrusted
with leading this nation s youth while implementing our national strategy. Hanson s 2012 premise,
albeit over two years old today, is immediately discernible: America faces devastating self inflicted
wounds by implementing the current Administration s defense spending budget. The dawn of 2014
finds this debate ongoing and the implementation of this budget well in progress, with even more
drastic cuts taking effect than the ones analyzed by Hanson previously. While few historians of repute
would argue against the reality that the siren song of defense reductions has lured the nation onto the
shoals of unpreparedness for future conflict many times in the past, two shortcomings in Hanson s
piece beckon us to pause and reexamine. First, Hanson appeals to the dignity of the American
character by the psychologically compelling assertion many Americans would probably prefer a new
frigate manned by highly trained youth to discourage our enemies, rather than another Solyndra like
investment or a nearly $1 trillion stimulus. Even if this is so, a critical evaluation of his self described
probability raises the question of relevance to his premise. What is deemed best for national

Organizational Culture Aspects Essay
Organizational Culture Aspects
The impact of culture is very important when it comes to attempting and achieving personal goals and
business goals. Organizational cultures are the characteristics that are based on morals, values,
traditions and personnel behavior. Values are very important because people act out upon his or her
values, and values channel behavior. Saying and doing the right thing are two different things and if
managers are trying to set the culture they have to set the example. Physical manifestations such as
ethical codes or written rules are some ways the organization reflects its values. General Electric,

corporations that strive to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lockheed Martin uses The Diversity Maturity Model (DMM) to measure employee s thoughts and
perceptions to a better work environment.
We all have heard the slogan We never forget who we are working for. Well, that is exactly what
Lockheed s mission is based on, What s good for people is good for business (2008). Many companies
are customer based and like General Electric they also depend upon the imaginations, intelligence and
curiosity of its employees (2008) to serve customers better. Diversity is accepted and welcomed at
Lockheed Martin because they rely heavily on teamwork. Ethical standards and behaviors are given to
all from top executive leadership positions to every level at the corporation. They have values they
rely on to respect each person s individuality. Do what is right, Respect others, Perform with
excellence.
Creating the right culture is not easy but there are programs that help alleviate conflicts. For example,
Lockheed uses the internet base software programs that give training on ethics and legal compliances.
This type of training can address different topics such as sexual harassment and with technology has
helped many companies in giving training where there is no time for seminars.

For the first time, perhaps, since that land emerged from the waters of the geologic ages, a human face

Any difference or deviation is frowned upon in the most serious manner. Mrs Lee s comment about
hot water baths is that she cannot clean herself, cannot make a strong suds (page 54), so she pretends
to conform. There is no tolerance for the traditional ways or for non conformists. This disharmony
within society is a greater division for Cather; it is a division between those who can only think within
the constraints of the past and the present; there is no evidence of a hunger for progress, only for the
rapid accumulation of wealth (as demonstrated by Lou s eagerness to sell out to Charlie Fuller.)
Randall quotes Cather herself in this: A pioneer should have imagination, should be able to enjoy the
idea of things more than the things themselves. Only this second category of people are those who
own the land. Cather is making a case in this novel (and subsequently in the similarly themed My

Automotive Industry And Porter s Five Forces
Automotive Industry and Porter s Five Forces

Abstract
According to the AMA dictionary of Business and Management (2013), Porter s Five Forces can be
described as a Framework developed by business professor Michael Porter for analyzing the balance
of power within a particular industry and its profitability. The following are the five forces: Bargaining
Power of Buyers, Bargaining Power of Suppliers, Competitive Rivalry in the Industry, Threat of New
Entrants, and Threat of Substitutes.Porter originally developed the five forces to explain why the
structures of some industries lead to exceptional profitability, and other structures do not (Kiechel III,

Automotive Industry Defined
Binder Rae (2017) defined the automotive industry as an industry that consists of all companies and
activities involved in the manufacturing of motor vehicles. It is key to note that this includes aspects
such as the building of components such as engines, and bodies of automobiles, but, according to
Binder Rae, excludes aspects such has tires, batteries, and fuel. Binder Rae states that the primary
products that the automotive industry manufactures are passenger automobiles and light trucks, and
commercial vehicles.
Automotive Industry Profile Outlook
Ferro (2015) identifies that the automotive industry is both capital and labor intensive. This is shown
through the management of costs and expenses associated with the manufacturing of vehicles (e.g.,
facilities, materials, parts, equipment, product development, and employment). Further, Ferro
discusses that the prices of key raw materials, such as steel, can fluctuate which requires the industry
to be strategically flexible.
In the United States the automotive industry is the largest single manufacturing enterprise in terms of
total value of products, value added by manufacture, and number of wage earners employed,
according to Binder Rae (2017). As well, Bind Rae state that one of every six American

is the therapeutic use of self to understand clients health needs and their knowledge and skills to

In addition, the nurse must maintain profession boundaries, during interaction with the client some

An Exposition of Kant’s, Arendt’s, and Mill’s Moral...
An Exposition of Kant s, Arendt s, and Mill s Moral Philosophy
Immanuel Kant adheres to Deontological ethics. His theory offers a view of morality based on the
principle of good will and duty. According to him, people can perform good actions solely by good
intentions without any considerations to consequences. In addition, one must follow the laws and the
categorical imperative in order to act in accordance with and from duty. Several other philosophers
such as Hannah Arendt discuss Kant s moral philosophy. In her case study: The Accused and Duties of
a Law Abiding Citizen , Arendt examines how Adolf Eichmann s actions conformed to Kant s moral
precepts but also how they ran of afoul to his conception of duty. In contrast, John Stuart ... Show

Kant s supreme principle of morality is also based on reason. According to him, acting on principle
signifies that we should do something simply because it is the right thing to do. In addition, he argues
that the morality of an act depends on a person s intentions. A moral act is one done for the right
reasons, even if it has bad consequences or it is not in the agent s best interest. In other words, the
highest function of reason is to establish good will, not happiness (Kant, P.96). In his view of morality,
self interest and duty come into conflict since performing one s duty does not necessarily make
someone or others happy. In fact, being ethical often hurts. Overall, happiness plays almost no role in
Kant s morality. In his opinion, a good will is not good because it tries to promote some good end.
Firstly, a good will is always good, good unconditionally, and never in any way bad. Secondly, all
other goods, for instance, gifts of nature or fortune, are good only conditionally and are worthless or
even bad when the relevant conditions are not satisfied. Lastly, the goodness of any conditioned good
depends on it being combined with a good will. This concept of a will estimable in itself and good
without regard to any further end is captured in Kant s first proposition: Only an act done from duty
has moral worth (Kant, P.98). Having a good will is the condition to be satisfied for any other good

Health Insurance Fraud Essay
Faking a death is the most common type of life insurance fraud and has even been the plot of many
movies, books and shows; although it is difficult to pull off. This occurs after a person takes out a life
insurance policy on their self and after a few months of it being in effect they disappear and are
declared dead. Then the beneficiary, a family member or spouse, then attempts to collect the life
insurance policy
Double billing is a scheme that is common in health insurance fraud. Doctors will bill for treatments

Insurers can refuse to pay claims or delete claims, deny or cancel coverage as well as underpay
medical expenses. Fraudulent insurance companies can also collect premiums and pay for inexpensive
care before disappearing if a large claim is filed. It has also been known for companies to look through
insurer claims to intentionally drop them saying the insurer did not disclose previously.
One of the most targeted insurance lines is auto insurance fraud. There are many known schemes that
take place in this fraud that can vary in seriousness and complexity. There are small schemes to
defraud; filing multiple claims for a single injury, filing claims for vehicle damage or injuries that
were not caused by and auto accident and padding the cost of repairs. The schemes can become more
complex involving staged accidents, faking injury or falsely reporting a stolen vehicle.
Other schemes in auto insurance fraud occur mostly to avoid paying higher premiums. People might
register their car in a different town so they have cheaper rates. It is also common for fake primary
drivers to be listed to avoid a bad driving record or young drivers that are indeed the sole driver.
Another scheme is a policy holder reporting a false auto insurance claim that occurred before the
policy period

Human Pollination On Bees
Are we obligated to protect and secure the future of the bees? Humankind tends to take for granted
where our food comes from and do not think twice about it, let alone the process of pollination. The
manner in which we regard the bees not only has an effect on us but, it also affects a multitude of
species. However, we are able to do our part to lessen our negative impact on the bees. If educating
humankind would alleviate suffering of many species such as bees, we would then be obligated to
save the them. Bees are some of the most feared insects on the planet but aside from their sting they
are quite a complex and beneficial creature. There are over 20,000 species of bees on the planet
(Spivak,2013). They are often associated with honey however, they play a far more important role,
they pollinate. Bees are responsible for about 80 percent of pollination worldwide and a single colony
is able to pollinate upwards of 300 million flowers each day (Greenpeace.org). Although there are
ways for human pollination it is often a painstaking and time consuming process. Studies have also
shown that human pollination is not as effective (Spivak, 2013)). With 90 percent of the worlds
nutrition dependent upon bees we need to support the bees with pollination (Greenpeace.org). If we

the types of threats that DBR may face:
Advanced Persistent Threats: It includes basic malware, to targeted and state sponsored attacks which

They normally gain control using socially engineered Trojans or phishing attacks
One of the popular methods for APT is spearphishing which is created to send a specific phishing

within a few hours
Individuals cannot be termed APT as they rarely own resources which are both advanced and

The Development And Analysis Of Microsatellite Dna Essay

THE DEVELOPMENT AND ANALYSIS OF MICROSATELLITE DNA
Summary
Due to the significant negative impact of the industrial activities on the habitat, many species have
become endangered. To conserve the species, a thorough investigation is needed. In this case, the
research is based on the study the interdependencies between the genotype and spatial dispersal of
populations.
Despite being endangered, turtles comprise rather specific object for such investigations, as well as
any other long lived organisms, because their reproduction cycles complicate the genetic
investigations using conventional methods. That is why the novel DNA markers, microsatellites, were
chosen for this research.
Although the microsatellites are very informative and universal, the overall cost for research is higher
than for RAPD and AFLP. This is mostly due to the cost of the fluorescent dye which is used in the
PCR. To eliminate this, I will apply an interesting technique which allows for incorporation of the dye
by the forward primer into the product of polymerization thus saving a considerable amount of the
dye.
Generally, I plan to base research on such steps:
Studying the populations of Apalone spinifera and Apalone mutica based on available data;
Taking samples of blood from the animals which are going to be caught by hand in their usual habitat.
The sampling will occur in the least possible harmful way;
Testing 12 pairs of primers initially developed for Apalone spinifera using the

The Life of Spanish Baroque Painter Martolome Esteban Murillo
On January 1st, 1618, Bartolome Esteban Murillo was born in Seville Spain. Murillo was the most
famous Spanish Baroque painter of his time, known for his religious works.
Murillo was the youngest of fourteen children, born to Gaspar Esteban, a barber, and María Perez .
Murillo gained his surname from a traditional Andalusian custom, taking the name of his grandmother,
Elvira Murillo. In 1627, Murillo s father passed away, and his mother died a year later. Murillo was an
orphan at ten years old, and was sent to live with his older sister and her husband.
Murillo was exposed to the art world from a young age. His uncle was a painter, who married the
daughter of another successful artist. All the daughters of this couple went on to marry ... Show more

Even despite this, the 1660 s were the busiest in Murillo s entire career. His portraits from this time are
some of his best,.
In 1680, Murillo was commissioned to paint the main altarpiece for the Capuchins church in Cádiz.
This was an incredible honor. While working up on a scaffold, Murillo fell and died soon after.
During his lifetime, Murillo left an incredible art legacy. His style has similarities from his teacher,
and Zurbarán, the most popular painter in Seville before himself. In his early years, Murillo painted in
the style known as Chiaroscuro. Chiaroscuro is a style with strong contrast between light and dark.
Murillo used a lot of lighting techniques he learned from Zurbaran, but Murillo s works were lighter
and softer than Zurbaran. Overtime, Murillo stopped painting in Chiaroscuro, and his style evolved to
be lighter and more like the style of Federico Barocci. His trip to Madrid further changed his style,
encouraging him to use thick brushstrokes, warm tones, highlights, and richer color. In Murillo s late
life, his style changed again. Murillo used looser brush strokes, and sober colors. It is said that his
work during this time in his life was vaporous and more refined.
One of his more famous paintings is called The Young Beggar and is on display at the Musée du
Louvre, in Paris, France. This painting shows a sad beggar boy sitting alone on a street

science and knowledge can be destructive to the human mind and possibly harmful to the human body
as well. The Birth Mark , written by Nathanial Hawthorne in 1843, is the story of scientist, Aylmer,
and his obsession over human perfection; specifically, his sentiments on the red, hand shaped
birthmark on his wife, Georgiana s, left cheek. This passage, found more so near the beginning of the
story, describes a dream Aylmer had of performing an unsuccessful operation on Georgiana s
birthmark. Though he was unable to cut the flaw out of her skin, it did not stop him from wanting to
cut deeper into her skin, despite the grasp the Hand had on her heart. The passage functions to
foreshadow Georgiana s fate while demonstrating Aylmer s passion and dedication for science and
personifying the Hand s connection with Georgiana. While presenting oneself well and knowledge are
typically seen as useful characteristics, Hawthorne reminds his readers that flaws are a necessity
aspect of human nature that can not and should not be scientifically managed. Aylmer s dream
describes a procedure and result in which the reader anticipates will occur at the end of the story,
creating suspense of Georgiana s outcome and highlighting the relationship between Aylmer and
Georgiana as well. Georgiana s dissatisfaction with her birthmark only arose because of Aylmer s
displeased nature with its

Stalin And Holmes Essay
The acclaimed authors, Edgar Allan Poe and Arthur Conan Doyle, formulate the characters of Auguste
Dupin and Sherlock Holmes respectively, to be similar in the way they analyze, deduce, and connect
segments of often thought unsolvable cases. Through their comparable techniques and system of
deduction, Dupin and Holmes never fail to trace back evidence to the scene of the crime. However,
due to vast differences between the authors writing styles, the audience observes the main characters
as distinct individuals, ultimately reinforcing the notion that Dupin and Holmes are not clones, but
rather characters from different backgrounds that evolve to epitomize heroic private detectives. The
ability to arrive to conclusions through careful analysis of the obvious and the hidden, is a trait not
present in many figures. Dupin and Holmes are akin to one another in the way that they ... Show more

Dupin is sent to search Minister D. s apartment for a letter that is stolen from a personage with great
rank, assumably the Queen. Because Minister D. is both a poet and mathematician, Dupin deduces
that Minister D. is too clever to leave the letter somewhere the police will check first, that being

of the premises, including microscopic searches of the rungs of the chair and the jointings of each
furniture, Dupin focuses his search on random piles of letters and papers left near Minister D. s
writing table. Dupin glimpses across a letter that is radically different from the one of which the
Prefect had read [him] so minute a description (Poe 476). Careful observation of specific elements of
this particular letter, such as the excessive crumples and tears, lead Dupin to finalize his speculation
that the purloined letter is indeed the one right before his very

I was inspired by abstract art when I was undergraduate student and it triggered to make abstract style

The defendants Glen Sebastian Burns and Atif Ahmad Rafay were accused to have committed
aggravated first degree murder in Washington State. In a confession to an undercover RCMP officer in
British Columbia, posing as a mob boss, it is clamed that Burns was a contract killer hired by Rafay to
kill his parents so that Rafay could get insurance money for their deaths. It is claimed that Burns beat
the victims with a baseball bat while Rafay watched (para.10). They threw their cloths away and took
a bath to wash away the blood. The accused claim that the alleged confession was a lie to gain the

The Minister of Justice appealed the British Columbia Court of Appeal s decision to nullify the

The Supreme Court of Canada s Decision
The Supreme Court of Canada (SCC) said in regards to the section 12 of the charter claim, that in R. v.
Schmidt, Judge La Forest J. concluded that the charter cannot be used to govern how criminal
proceedings in a foreign country are to be conducted (para.51) and therefore the respondents section

case, and made their decision based on the interpretation of s. 7. The SCC found that s.7 evidently was
the real issue they had to deal with (para.31). The minister in this case, depended on the courts
agreeing that the precedent in Kindler and Ng applied to this case. In Kindler and Ng the courts
allowed for the accused to be extradited without assurances by the Minister of Justice. In Kindler, the
courts decided that each extradition case, where convictions could result in the death penalty, each
hearing should be reviewed on a case by case basis known as the balancing process (para.65). The
respondents claim that unlike Kindler and Ng, which were decided nearly 10 years

What Is A Restaurant Planning
Production Needs Milestone 2 The part of opening a new restaurant location is choosing the location
so that the plans can be drawn up. I decided that using an existing building is the best option for both
price and time. By utilizing an existing building, the permits will be cheaper since most tenant
improvements don t require permits. If the location previously was a restaurant, then the kitchen will
already have gas ran into it. With the location decided we can bring in the architect to draw up the
building plans and get them submitted for permits. This should take 1 to 6 months depending on how
busy the architect and permitting office is. Once you have the building permits the contractor can
begin construction. According to Aaron Allen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Lean Management
In the production of a restaurant the first lean management principal of finding what creates value for
the customer (Russell Taylor, 2016), can be applied during the concept of the restaurant. By
determining what is valuable you can plan around it. If you determine that the guests come to the
restaurant for the quality of food and great service, then we can develop a menu that meets or exceeds
expectations. The sequence of activities would be the chefs in the kitchen preparing the food for the
guests to enjoy while the server tends to the guest s immediate needs such as taking their drink order
and filling it for them. The server might also be asked for suggestions of wines to pair with the meal
they just ordered. The third is the process of identifying waste in the value stream and removing it. In
the construction of the building the designer will need to look at the flow of traffic and see if there is
anything that can be done to reduce wasteful tasks (Russell Taylor, 2016). This includes considering
how many steps it takes to get something out of the fridge or how far the chef needs to go to get a
mixing bowl or tools. The cooks and servers must also pay attention to these as well to minimize
waste. The designer should also pay attention to green technology available to them in the design
phase. This is

A customer of The Container Store completed her purchase and headed for her car, children in tow.
She placed her package on the ground as she put the children in the car and then drove off forgetting
the package. Realizing her mistake just a few minutes late, she returned to the parking lot, but the
package was gone. She re entered the store hoping that someone had turned in her package, but no one

Distinctive Characteristics of Services Vis a Vis Products
Fundamentally services differ from products in terms of how they are produced, consumed, and
evaluated. Some of the key characteristics unique to service are:
a. Intangibility:
Services are basically intangible. The intangible nature of services also presents a problem for
customers. When buying a product, the customer is able to see it, feel it, and test its performance
before purchase. For a service, however, the customer must rely on the reputation of the service firm.
b. Inseparability:
Production and consumption of many services are inseparable e.g. delivering a lecture.

Stereotypes And Exploitation Of Gender Profiling
Abstract. Successful investigations of the process of gender embodiment must use these three basic
principles. First nature/nurture is indivisible. Second organisms humans and otherwise are active
processes, moving targets, from fertilization until death. Third, no single academic or clinical
discipline provides us with the true or best way to understand human sexuality (Fausto Sterling, 2000)
Throughout this study I compared to of the largest toy brands in the world LEGO and Barbie, they are
both iconic pop culture symbols and were perfect for this paper. Researching thoroughly the effects
that negative stereotypes and exploitation of gender profiling can have. Through this investigation I
believe it was found that attitudes towards genders shift over time and as time goes by the attitudes
towards women for example in the work place have become more liberal. However there will always
be negative connotations around these matters as everyone s ideologies are different. It is an
interesting and important topic that everyone from all backgrounds, social statues and ethnicities are
part of yet it is a very multi layered and complicated topic as there are so many factors that come into
play.
Intro.
Gender is complex (Lippa, A R 1994) there are unlimited influences that affect each and every one of

The Leather Flight Chair Enclosed Olbarwulf
The leather flight chair enclosed Olbarwulf in its embrace like an old friend which, all things
considered, it might as well be. The blaring klaxons, the stamping flight boots, and the incessant
shouting filtered through the cockpit canopy. All were familiar to him. And yet, even after all these
years of deployment, the constant din still was still unnerving. Exhaling slowly, Olbarwulf leaned
back, feeling through his coarse mane, feeling for the socket at the base of his neck. When did I last go
under? he queried, touching the depression, thumbing the optic and data input cables. He needed to go
under, to feel the Thunderbolt as a part of him, to fly. He yearned for that kind of freedom. But it
would have to wait. His co pilot was late, and a failure to launch fully crewed would land Olbarwulf
directly in the sights of a commissar. The sounds of labored breathing and the unsteady clump of flight
boots on the walkway to Olbarwulf s right announced the belated arrival of his co pilot, Gustaf
Krienger. One of the heavily persecuted Flavix, Gustaf s life as a co pilot was harsh and violent,

Definition Essay On Judgement
People judge each other on a daily basis. The way an individual presents themselves, speaks, and
behave are all qualities other people base their perception off of. Consequently, these inferences are
quite useful in determining who you would and would not enjoy being in any type of relationship with
based on surface appearance. However, people may take judging people on surface appearance too far.
Therefore, although making a judgement on about a person may not be a negative inference, people
take their judgmental attitude to the extreme. Consequently, they have placed themselves in a negative
lifestyle which negatively impacts their mood and social interactions. The word judgment can have
multiple definitions; however, for the purpose of this essay, the Dictionary.com definition is referred
to. Judgment defined by Dictionary.com is the process of forming an opinion or evaluation by
discerning and comparing. Therefore, judgements form when an individual compares their definition
of what is acceptable to that of the person they are analyzing. Using this type of judgement, an
individual can quickly form a surface based opinion about an individual and determine whether ...

Distinguishing Between Bad and Evil
Distinguishing Between Bad and Evil
John Milton s works Paradise Lost, Paradise Regained and A Masque Presented at Ludlow Castle all
have antagonists that are Milton s representations of evil. However, when closely examining Satan in
Paradise Lost to Paradise Regained it is easily recognizable that Satan s character has taken a
remarkable shift in that he no longer questions his immoral actions just like Comus never questions
his actions in A Masque Presented at Ludlow Castle. This close examination brings about the question
what s the difference between being an evil being and a person with bad character? This essay will
evaluate how Satan in Paradise Lost is just a bad character whereas Satan in Paradise Regained and
Comus are evil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Milton creates Satan s character in this way in order to tempt and test his reader by appealing to the
reader s sinful side. His constant manipulation of the reader and the characters within the text does not
necessarily make him evil it just reflects poor judgment and bad character.
In Paradise Regained Satan no longer possesses the same conflicting dualities of good and bad;
instead his character illustrates a malevolent being. Satan no longer questions or reacts with
conflicting feelings towards his demonic actions and sentiments as he did in Paradise Lost. His
character is completely detached from the purity that was once within him and commits atrocities
without remorse or question. It is evident in Paradise Regained that Milton has completely
reconstructed Satan in such a malicious manner that there leaves no room for question whether Satan
is a bad or evil. Satan is presented as nothing other than pure evil. His speeches are no longer alluring
and infectious instead they reek with toxic flow. He is no longer apologetic for his rebellion and his
respect for the position on God represented in Book 1 of Paradise Regained has diminished:

Comparing Christianity, Morality In Islam, And The Bible
What is the meaning of life? Is there a universal source that serves as an instruction manual to direct
each person s life? Time has shown that multiple sources have found their own answers on the purpose
of human existence, and the most helpful answers derive from religious roots. Specifically, Islam and
Christianity both give answers to the questions of human existence and morality through their holy
scriptures, The Qur an in the Muslim faith, and the Bible in the Christian faith. While the Bible and
the Qur an offer helpful instruction to the lives of the followers of their respective religions and stand
out as long lasting pieces of literature, the two books differ on their bases for morality due to key

My Experience At The Mountain View Hospital

This semester I volunteered my time at the Mountain View Hospital in the Women s Department,
specifically in the postpartum section. I chose this volunteer opportunity because it significantly

Psychology minor (pre medical) and the goal of my medical career is to become an
Obstetrician/gynecologist and then potentially specialize in the fertility and infertility of women.
Throughout the course of this semester I would volunteer at Mountain View on Friday evenings. My

However, I can do other things to provide care, compassion, and relief to the post partum mothers. On
one of my days volunteering I had a particularly nice experience, which reflects how volunteers can
provide a service to their community through small acts of kindness. A mother just had her third child,
her other two children, who seemed to be no older that 5 or 6 years old, were restless and quite out of
control. There was a male figure who came and went a few times, but he didn t seem to have any
attachment to the other two children. The mother seemed overwhelmed probably because of the
exhaustion and stress of childbirth. Also, she was stuck in bed while her incisions from her C section
healed. According to the nurses, she was only permitted to walk a lap around the nurse s station every
few hours, let alone chase around her other rowdy children. So I had an idea: in the post partum
department we have these wagons that are decorated with characters from Winnie the Pooh and
Finding Nemo. To offer the mother some rest, I asked if I could pull her children around the Women s
Department in the wagon. The mother accepted my offer and I loaded the two children, Leah and
Ryder, into the wagon. I pulled the two kids around for about 45 minutes. When I came back to the
mother s room, she thanked me many times. It was personally rewarding to help the mother, even
though it was just a small gesture.

The Giver Right
I do believe that Jonas did the right thing at the end of The Giver. The releasing of the memories was
very important in reshaping the Community and his actions also saved Gabriel who was about to be
released, or killed. Leaving the Community was necessary to release the memories and there have
been many examples in the Bible of people leaving their homelands to fulfill a promise or prophecy.
Once Jonas crossed the boundary into Elsewhere, all of his memories were given back to the
Community. These included his memories of color, snow, sun, and others. With those good memories,
however, came bad memories as well. These were memories of war, hunger, loss, and pain. Bad
memories are not meant to be locked away forever. Instead, they should be ... Show more content on

He did seem hesitant to do so at first. However, he realized what staying behind would cause, so he
went along with his plan. If he stayed behind, Gabriel would have been murdered, the people of the
Community would have never been able to experience and learn from the memories, and Jonas would
spend his entire life longing for the true feelings of love. There were many people in the Bible who
had to leave there homes behind for the good of them and those around them. For example, God told
Abraham to leave his home and find the land God had promised him. The details of his journey are
shown in Genesis 12. When he arrived in the land, which was near Canaan, God said that He would
give all of the land to his offspring and bless Abraham and those who bless him.
While I can see how Jonas s actions could be seen as hasty, I also see the good that came from those
actions. Now that he has escaped, the memories have been released and now everyone can experience
what Jonas has experienced and learn from it. Gabriel is safe and free with Jonas and, even though he
was hesitant, I still see the good that came from Jonas leaving the Community. His actions have
greatly benefitted both him and Gabriel and all of those who live in the

Dante And The Nature Of Sin
Dante and the Nature of Sin
Often, we cannot see the good until we have experienced the bad. Dante Alighieri, a poet who makes
himself the main character in his Divine Comedy, finds himself lost in a dark wood at the start of The
Inferno. Though he sees a safe path out of the wood towards an alluring light, he is forced to take an
alternate route through an even darker place. As the ending of the pilgrim Dante s voyage is bright and
hopeful, Alighieri the poet aims to encourage even the most sinful Christians to hope for a successful
end. Thus, Dante the pilgrim goes to hell in The Inferno to better understand the nature of sin and its
consequences in order to move closer to salvation; his journey an allegory representing that of the
repenting Christian soul. Before Virgil arrives to guide Dante on his journey, Dante shares that he
doesn t recall how he lost his way. He tells How I entered [the dark wood] I cannot truly say, I had
become so sleepy at the moment when I first strayed, leaving the path of truth (Inferno I.10 12).
Because he strayed from the holy path, Dante finds himself lost and trying to find his way back on the
right track. Dante s ultimate goal is to to free himself from the dark wood of confusion and chaos.
Looking up from the wood, Dante sees the hilltop shawled in morning rays of light sent from the
planet that leads men straight ahead on every road (Inferno I.16 18). Dante begins to move towards the
light, but is blocked from passing by three

Racism By Kwame Anthony Appiah
Racism is a widely discussed topic, and everyone agrees that it is something that only causes harm.
People with racist views can view others from other groups as people who are lesser than them and
might use physically actions to show their dislike. In response to that, more and more people are
having their own ideas of how to identify and end racism. For example, Kwame Anthony Appiah who
brought out the idea of extrinsic racism, the perspective of utilitarianism, and the Kantian ethic are
views that show why racism is wrong and how it can be ended. Kwame Anthony Appiah who wrote
Racisms , believes that extrinsic racism is when people has a belief that different races are different
genetically and that results in different treatments. members of different races differ in respects that
warrant the differential treatment, respects, such as honesty or courage or intelligence that are
controversially held (held at least in most contemporary cultures) to be acceptable as basis for treating
people differently. (p.691) This is morally wrong to Appiah because it is not true at all. Humans are
humans, even if there are different races, the genes that contributes to race does not set different races
intelligence and moral standards, it is the teaching and environment that shapes the people. the genes
that account for the gross morphological differences that underlie our standard racial categories are not

Healthsouth Management Has Overstated Earnings Essay
in 2003, investigators found that HealthSouth management had overstated earnings by at least $2.7
billion over a 17 year period. Furthermore, before the scheme was exposed, members of senior
management had been quietly selling their shares as quickly as they dared and falsely reporting that
HealthSouth had billions of dollars in existing assets. In August 2002, the then CEO and Chairman
Richard Scrushy sold $75 million worth of his company shares just weeks ahead of HealthSouth
announcing that cuts in Medicare reimbursements would reduce its pre tax profits by $175 million.
The company also said it wouldn t issue earnings guidance for the remainder of 2002. HealthSouth s
share value immediately tumbled from $11.97 to $6.71 (HealthSouth 2002, Appendix 1). With top
tiers selling their shares and the resultant rapid and precipitous drop in the company s share value,
attracted the SEC s attention to investigate these occurrences. The company s insiders told SEC that
the Medicare payment reduction actually was $20 million at most, and that management was using the
additional $155 million in supposed reimbursement cuts to make up for reported earnings that never
existed (HealthSouth 2002, Appendix 1) Granting that the detection of the fraud scandal was based on

This trauma is caused by the invasion of Sweet Home into the healing space that once was 124. Sweet
Home is the location in which slavery occurs; therefore, marking it as a site of trauma that inhabits the
memories of Sethe and Paul D. As Jesser mentions, Sweet Home is the reference point through which
Sethe makes her decisions about the future. It is also the place that they belonged to and that belonged
to them. For Denver, it is a site of exclusion. She challenges their attachments to each and to the past
(Jesser 329). While Sweet Home was once considered a place of nice slavery, it now houses the
memories of trauma for those who witnessed and experienced it. For Denver, who has no actual
memories of slavery for herself, she is still affected by slavery because it traumatizes those around her.

Essay on Gastroparesis
Gastroparesis
Gastroparesis is a digestive disorder in which the motility of the stomach is either abnormal or absent.
Gastro means stomach and paresis means weakness. Gastroparesis is a weak stomach. This condition
is very common. It can be the cause of a number of abdominal complaints. It is usually not a serious
problem and there are effective treatments available.
In normal health, when the stomach is functioning normally. The stomach has two parts. The upper

Fortunately, gastric emptying resumes and symptoms improve when food intake and eating schedules
normalize. Symptoms of gastroparesis include bloating, nausea, and early fullness while eating meals,
heartburn, and epigastric pain. The most common symptom is early satiety, or the sensation of feeling
full shortly after starting a meal. Nausea and vomiting are also common. A person with gastroparesis
may vomit undigested food many hours after their last meal. Weight loss can occur due to poor
absorption of nutrients, or taking in too few calories.
The diagnosis of gastroparesis starts with the medical history where the physician may suspect the
diagnosis based on the symptoms. A gastric or stomach emptying test is presently the best method of
making the diagnosis. In this test, a food, such as scrambled eggs, is labeled with a marker, which can
be seen by a scanner. Following ingestion, the scanner tracks the time it takes for the food to leave the
stomach. In general, half the stomach contents should leave within about 90 minutes. A final test is the
electrogastrogram (EGG). This test, like the EKG on the heart, measures the electrical waves that
normally sweep over the stomach and precede each contraction.
Diet is one of the foundations of treatment for those who suffer from gastroparesis. Some foods are
more difficult than others for the stomach to digest. Fatty foods take a longer time to digest, so do
foods that

industry leaders Goldman Sachs stock was reduced to $78 a share from $247 a share the year before.
Shares for the company are currently trading at $170. Bank of America stock dropped from $51 a
share to $7. Shares for the company are now at $16. Both barely survived the crisis and did so with the
aid of government funds under TARP. The stock market overall has rebounded quite well and this
bodes well for the Investment Banking and Securities dealing industry. In fact, since 2009 the NYSE
is up 130%, the S P 182%, the Dow Jones 145%, and the Nasdaq is a healthy 250%.
Threats
Political
Arguably the most scrutinized industry over the last decade, the Investment Banking and Securities
Dealing industry has yet to shed the impending litigation, fines, and regulations that have dragged

to the mortgage crisis. The results have sucked capital from major industry players Goldman Sachs
and JP Morgan, while Deutsche Bank is currently in litigation to find out its final fine amount.
Deutsche Bank s fine brings with it not only loss of capital but fears that the bank could fail resulting
in another crisis (CNBC). Economic

  • 2. Experiment to Determine How Heart Rate is Affected by... Throughout this investigation, I will be conducting a number of experiments to help solve whether or not heart rate is affected by exercise. My aim is to identify the difference of every volunteer s heart rate and take down how old they are so I can evaluate whether or not the age of a person make a difference in their bpm (beats per minute). Many people know when you exercise for long periods of time; your breathing becomes more shallow and quick. The main human organ system used when exercising is the respiratory system. There are two types of respiration your body can carry out, aerobic, with oxygen, and anaerobic, without. The reason for getting tired from exercise is because when the body runs out of the oxygen it needs, anaerobic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The exercise I have chosen to do throughout this investigation is skipping (jumping). The reason I have chosen this specific activity is because I think it will produce more interesting results than a basic exercise, such as running. I managed to gather a total of 10 people to help conduct my experiment. Four people for year 9, three for year 7 and three for sixth form. The reason I have chosen at least three people per age group is because it is the smallest number of people you can have to find an accurate average. As said, I have chosen four people for the year 9 age group. This is because the heart rates of the first original three people varied far more than in the other two groups. I then decided to bring a fourth person so they could help justify my results and show they are as valid as possible. There are three variables in my experiment. The amount of time, the pulse rate and the age of the people. I asked my volunteers to skip for five short but different periods of time. These time periods varied from 30 seconds to 2 and a half minutes. I asked the people who had volunteered to jump for the given time, and straight after jumping, count their pulse rate for 20 seconds (which was timed) and I would then multiply it by three, to give a total of 60 secind/1 minute. You can see the results fit very well with what was expected to occur. You could see that the heart rate was increasing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this book, Chris travels the world in search of the best runners and stumbles across barefoot runners, which totally revolutionised what he believed was good for your feet. This search brought him to Mexico s Copper Canyons. Christopher, on his journey to find out what makes your feet hurt, met the Tarahumara people who were the tribal people of Northwestern Mexican Mountains, famous for their long distance running. The Tarahumara people lived isolated from western societies, living in caves and living and growing their own food of corn, potatoes and beans. Running for Tarahumara ... • 4. American Imperialism In Australia Essay The reasons for colonisation by the Spanish in the Americas and the British in Australia had many similarities. These similar factors included, improving trade routes, expanding their colonies for wealth and power and obtaining new resources. In addition, both groups wanted to explore beyond their own country. However, there were also a few big differences. For example, the British used Australia for the keeping of convicts, due to the overcrowded prisons in their own country. They also wanted to claim the land, preventing settlement in Australia from other countries, such as the Netherlands (Dutch). An aim for the Spanish, in the Americas, was to convert more people to Christianity, as well as becoming more well known and important. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In both the Americas and Australia, the native dwellers were forced to relocate and adapt to new circumstances, due to the taking of land by the Europeans, who felt that they had the right to, due to their self proclaimed superiority. The weapons of the Aztec and the Aboriginal cultures were also influenced in big ways after the colonisation; as they adopted many of the settlers more technological weaponry. The Indigenous in the Americas and Australia were forced to change their religious beliefs, and become Christians. The Aboriginals in Australia were sent to mission stations, and were made to forget their own beliefs and traditions, which were seen as nomadic to the British. The Indigenous people were thought to be inferior by the colonisers, and as a result, were the victims of injust treatment. • 5. Southern Charm Or False Living Analysis Southern Charm or False Living? Luigi Pirandello once said Anyone can be heroic from time to time, but a gentleman is something you have to be all the time. I think this quote truly sums up what our culture lacks today. Anyone can do something nice once in a while, but it takes a true spirit of valor to serve and love those around them all the time. Southern Culture tends to have this impression that all men are gentlemen, and the ladies are all charming and gracefully kind. This then begs the question; what does a true gentlemen or lady look like? In my opinion these types of people serve other unconditionally, respect those in authority over them, and a true gentlemen loves the Lord most of all. Second Throughout life one of the hardest things to do, is to respect those over us. Whether our parents, bosses, or even when we disagree politically with our leaders, we are called to honor them. Often times those who respect those over them, without griping or complaining, are the true gentlemen or ladies of today s culture. When I m around complainer, it totally changes the way I look at my leaders, or even sometimes peers. Heavy Price of Defense Spending Cuts by Victor Davis Hanson Renowned historian and classicist scholar Victor Davis Hanson s January 11, 2012 commentary entitled Heavy Price of Defense Spending Cuts: Nations That Choose Butter over Guns Atrophy and Die warrants a thoughtful analysis of its merits and shortcomings by U.S. military officers entrusted with leading this nation s youth while implementing our national strategy. Hanson s 2012 premise, albeit over two years old today, is immediately discernible: America faces devastating self inflicted wounds by implementing the current Administration s defense spending budget. The dawn of 2014 finds this debate ongoing and the implementation of this budget well in progress, with even more drastic cuts taking effect than the ones analyzed by Hanson previously. While few historians of repute would argue against the reality that the siren song of defense reductions has lured the nation onto the shoals of unpreparedness for future conflict many times in the past, two shortcomings in Hanson s piece beckon us to pause and reexamine. First, Hanson appeals to the dignity of the American character by the psychologically compelling assertion many Americans would probably prefer a new frigate manned by highly trained youth to discourage our enemies, rather than another Solyndra like investment or a nearly $1 trillion stimulus. Even if this is so, a critical evaluation of his self described probability raises the question of relevance to his premise. What is deemed best for national ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In addition, one must follow the laws and the categorical imperative in order to act in accordance with and from duty. Several other philosophers such as Hannah Arendt discuss Kant s moral philosophy. According to him, acting on principle signifies that we should do something simply because it is the right thing to do. In addition, he argues that the morality of an act depends on a person s intentions. A moral act is one done for the right reasons, even if it has bad consequences or it is not in the agent s best interest. In other words, the highest function of reason is to establish good will, not happiness (Kant, P.96). In his view of morality, self interest and duty come into conflict since performing one s duty does not necessarily make someone or others happy. In fact, being ethical often hurts. Overall, happiness plays almost no role in Kant s morality. In his opinion, a good will is not good because it tries to promote some good end. Firstly, a good will is always good, good unconditionally, and never in any way bad. Secondly, all other goods, for instance, gifts of nature or fortune, are good only conditionally and are worthless or even bad when the relevant conditions are not satisfied. Lastly, the goodness of any conditioned good depends on it being combined with a good will. This concept of a will estimable in itself and good without regard to any further end is captured in Kant s first proposition: Only an act done from duty has moral worth (Kant, P.98). Despite being endangered, turtles comprise rather specific object for such investigations, as well as any other long lived organisms, because their reproduction cycles complicate the genetic investigations using conventional methods. If the location previously was a restaurant, then the kitchen will already have gas ran into it. With the location decided we can bring in the architect to draw up the building plans and get them submitted for permits. This should take 1 to 6 months depending on how busy the architect and permitting office is. Once you have the building permits the contractor can begin construction. According to Aaron Allen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Keller, 2017) Lean Management In the production of a restaurant the first lean management principal of finding what creates value for the customer (Russell Taylor, 2016), can be applied during the concept of the restaurant. By determining what is valuable you can plan around it. If you determine that the guests come to the restaurant for the quality of food and great service, then we can develop a menu that meets or exceeds expectations. The sequence of activities would be the chefs in the kitchen preparing the food for the guests to enjoy while the server tends to the guest s immediate needs such as taking their drink order and filling it for them. The server might also be asked for suggestions of wines to pair with the meal they just ordered. The third is the process of identifying waste in the value stream and removing it. In the construction of the building the designer will need to look at the flow of traffic and see if there is anything that can be done to reduce wasteful tasks (Russell Taylor, 2016). This includes considering how many steps it takes to get something out of the fridge or how far the chef needs to go to get a mixing bowl or tools. The cooks and servers must also pay attention to these as well to minimize waste. The designer should also pay attention to green technology available to them in the design phase. This is ... • 26. Stereotypes And Exploitation Of Gender Profiling Abstract. Successful investigations of the process of gender embodiment must use these three basic principles. First nature/nurture is indivisible. Second organisms humans and otherwise are active processes, moving targets, from fertilization until death. Third, no single academic or clinical discipline provides us with the true or best way to understand human sexuality (Fausto Sterling, 2000) Throughout this study I compared to of the largest toy brands in the world LEGO and Barbie, they are both iconic pop culture symbols and were perfect for this paper. Through this investigation I believe it was found that attitudes towards genders shift over time and as time goes by the attitudes towards women for example in the work place have become more liberal. However there will always be negative connotations around these matters as everyone s ideologies are different. It is an interesting and important topic that everyone from all backgrounds, social statues and ethnicities are part of yet it is a very multi layered and complicated topic as there are so many factors that come into play. The blaring klaxons, the stamping flight boots, and the incessant shouting filtered through the cockpit canopy. All were familiar to him. And yet, even after all these years of deployment, the constant din still was still unnerving. Exhaling slowly, Olbarwulf leaned back, feeling through his coarse mane, feeling for the socket at the base of his neck. When did I last go under? he queried, touching the depression, thumbing the optic and data input cables. He needed to go under, to feel the Thunderbolt as a part of him, to fly. He yearned for that kind of freedom. But it would have to wait. His co pilot was late, and a failure to launch fully crewed would land Olbarwulf directly in the sights of a commissar. The sounds of labored breathing and the unsteady clump of flight boots on the walkway to Olbarwulf s right announced the belated arrival of his co pilot, Gustaf Krienger. One of the heavily persecuted Flavix, Gustaf s life as a co pilot was harsh and violent, characterised by the latticework of scars stretching down from his large, dusky eyes to his whiskered cheeks, physical reminders of the Navy s long held place as a bastion of conservative thinking. • 28. Definition Essay On Judgement People judge each other on a daily basis. The way an individual presents themselves, speaks, and behave are all qualities other people base their perception off of. Consequently, these inferences are quite useful in determining who you would and would not enjoy being in any type of relationship with based on surface appearance. However, people may take judging people on surface appearance too far. Therefore, although making a judgement on about a person may not be a negative inference, people take their judgmental attitude to the extreme. Consequently, they have placed themselves in a negative lifestyle which negatively impacts their mood and social interactions. The word judgment can have multiple definitions; however, for the purpose of this essay, the Dictionary.com definition is referred to. Judgment defined by Dictionary.com is the process of forming an opinion or evaluation by discerning and comparing. Distinguishing Between Bad and Evil Distinguishing Between Bad and Evil John Milton s works Paradise Lost, Paradise Regained and A Masque Presented at Ludlow Castle all have antagonists that are Milton s representations of evil. However, when closely examining Satan in Paradise Lost to Paradise Regained it is easily recognizable that Satan s character has taken a remarkable shift in that he no longer questions his immoral actions just like Comus never questions his actions in A Masque Presented at Ludlow Castle. This close examination brings about the question what s the difference between being an evil being and a person with bad character? Milton creates Satan s character in this way in order to tempt and test his reader by appealing to the reader s sinful side. His constant manipulation of the reader and the characters within the text does not necessarily make him evil it just reflects poor judgment and bad character. In Paradise Regained Satan no longer possesses the same conflicting dualities of good and bad; instead his character illustrates a malevolent being. Satan no longer questions or reacts with conflicting feelings towards his demonic actions and sentiments as he did in Paradise Lost. His character is completely detached from the purity that was once within him and commits atrocities without remorse or question. It is evident in Paradise Regained that Milton has completely reconstructed Satan in such a malicious manner that there leaves no room for question whether Satan is a bad or evil. Satan is presented as nothing other than pure evil. His speeches are no longer alluring and infectious instead they reek with toxic flow. He is no longer apologetic for his rebellion and his respect for the position on God represented in Book 1 of Paradise Regained has diminished: Yet to that hideous place not so confined By rigour unconniving, but that oft Leaving my dolorous prison I enjoy Large liberty to round this globe of earth, Or range in the air, nor from the heaven of heavens Hath he ... There was a male figure who came and went a few times, but he didn t seem to have any attachment to the other two children. According to the nurses, she was only permitted to walk a lap around the nurse s station every few hours, let alone chase around her other rowdy children. So I had an idea: in the post partum department we have these wagons that are decorated with characters from Winnie the Pooh and Finding Nemo. To offer the mother some rest, I asked if I could pull her children around the Women s Department in the wagon. The mother accepted my offer and I loaded the two children, Leah and Ryder, into the wagon. I pulled the two kids around for about 45 minutes. The releasing of the memories was very important in reshaping the Community and his actions also saved Gabriel who was about to be released, or killed. Leaving the Community was necessary to release the memories and there have been many examples in the Bible of people leaving their homelands to fulfill a promise or prophecy. Once Jonas crossed the boundary into Elsewhere, all of his memories were given back to the Community. These included his memories of color, snow, sun, and others. There were many people in the Bible who had to leave there homes behind for the good of them and those around them. For example, God told Abraham to leave his home and find the land God had promised him. The details of his journey are shown in Genesis 12. When he arrived in the land, which was near Canaan, God said that He would give all of the land to his offspring and bless Abraham and those who bless him. Dante Alighieri, a poet who makes himself the main character in his Divine Comedy, finds himself lost in a dark wood at the start of The Inferno. Though he sees a safe path out of the wood towards an alluring light, he is forced to take an alternate route through an even darker place. As the ending of the pilgrim Dante s voyage is bright and hopeful, Alighieri the poet aims to encourage even the most sinful Christians to hope for a successful end. Thus, Dante the pilgrim goes to hell in The Inferno to better understand the nature of sin and its consequences in order to move closer to salvation; his journey an allegory representing that of the repenting Christian soul. Before Virgil arrives to guide Dante on his journey, Dante shares that he doesn t recall how he lost his way. He tells How I entered [the dark wood] I cannot truly say, I had become so sleepy at the moment when I first strayed, leaving the path of truth (Inferno I.10 12). Because he strayed from the holy path, Dante finds himself lost and trying to find his way back on the right track. Dante s ultimate goal is to to free himself from the dark wood of confusion and chaos. People with racist views can view others from other groups as people who are lesser than them and might use physically actions to show their dislike. For example, Kwame Anthony Appiah who brought out the idea of extrinsic racism, the perspective of utilitarianism, and the Kantian ethic are views that show why racism is wrong and how it can be ended. Kwame Anthony Appiah who wrote Racisms , believes that extrinsic racism is when people has a belief that different races are different genetically and that results in different treatments. members of different races differ in respects that warrant the differential treatment, respects, such as honesty or courage or intelligence that are controversially held (held at least in most contemporary cultures) to be acceptable as basis for treating people differently. Humans are humans, even if there are different races, the genes that contributes to race does not set different races intelligence and moral standards, it is the teaching and environment that shapes the people. the genes that account for the gross morphological differences that underlie our standard racial categories are not linked to those genes that determine, to whatever degree such matters ... Furthermore, before the scheme was exposed, members of senior management had been quietly selling their shares as quickly as they dared and falsely reporting that HealthSouth had billions of dollars in existing assets. In August 2002, the then CEO and Chairman Richard Scrushy sold $75 million worth of his company shares just weeks ahead of HealthSouth announcing that cuts in Medicare reimbursements would reduce its pre tax profits by $175 million. The company also said it wouldn t issue earnings guidance for the remainder of 2002. HealthSouth s share value immediately tumbled from $11.97 to $6.71 (HealthSouth 2002, Appendix 1). With top tiers selling their shares and the resultant rapid and precipitous drop in the company s share value, attracted the SEC s attention to investigate these occurrences.
