Bringing Back the Five Year High School Program
Bringing Back the Five Year High School Program For many teens, their four years of high school
have been a memorable and transforming experience, but for others, high school was just another
brick building keeping them from the real world. But what if another year of education was added
back to the four year program and it assisted students with their high school experience? Since 2003,
Toronto high schools have removed the fifth year of the high school program but people have spoken
about bringing back the extra year to help students with course averages, stress and decrease the
dropout rate. Returning to the five year program may be beneficial to help high school students with
academic achievement, post secondary planning and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It gives them time to relax from other sources of stress like increased work load. It is said that having
academic courses will help students stay on task and become persistent because of the increased
amount of work they need to complete, however, an abundance school work can cause extreme stress
and/or anxiety. If a student were to have a course schedule of Physics, biology, Chemistry, Advanced
functions, Calculus and French, he/she would need some time to relax in a day and express themselves
thorough one of their interests, so they may choose to take an arts course (i.e. Drama, Dance, Media
Studies, etc.) or join a club or activity. The five year high school program can help with improving a
student s overall average which will later be of value to them when applying to post secondary
schools. A student with a lower grade average in their final year of highs school will have a smaller
chance of getting accepted into the university/college program of their choice whereas a student with a
higher average during their final high school year will have a greater chance of being accepted into
university/college program of their choice. The fifth year will provide more time to focus on school
work and to receive help from teachers. The five year program in high schools will significantly help
students with course planning and marks but also help them keep peace of mind.

Chinas One-Child Policy Essay
China s One Child Policy
In our society, the United States, children are seen potentially as the as the future. Whether they are
male or female, they have the power to be something when they grow up. But if their life is cut short,
the opportunity to do so is taken away. In 1976, China implemented what is known as the quot; One
Child Policy quot; in order to try and solve their problem of overpopulation (McDonald, 1996).
Although the policy may seem as though it is a good idea in solving the problem, the consequences of
this policy has lead to female infanticide.
Throughout centuries, China has been battling with overpopulation, one of the biggest issues that the
nation has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, are they willing to keep the child since it is the only one they can legally keep? If the
couple decides that the child they want is a male, they must decide on what to do with this child. What
happens to the child ranges from giving them up to state orphanages to murder. Due to the
enforcement of the one child policy, many female children end up in orphanages (Beijing Review,
1997). Being put into an orphanage in our society would give the child a chance to live and maybe
even be adopted by another family. In China, the conditions in the orphanages are so filthy that the
neglect that they would have at home if the couple decided to keep the female would be better than the
maltreatment they would receive.
Many female children end up in orphanages in China rarely having males occupy them unless there
was something wrong with the child. Each month 90 percent from 50 to 60 baby girls arrive in one of
the many orphanages and end their lives their (Choe, 1995). The children sit on bamboo benches with
their hands and feet tied to the armrests and legs of the chair. Below them are buckets that are placed
under the holes in the seats to catch their excretions. When it is time for bed, the children are taken out
of the seats and tied to their beds (Geographical Magazine, 1996). This is the treatment that that the
children face everyday and the Chinese do not see a problem with such harsh

Dr. Bruce Tuckman s Model Of Group Work
Our group was brought together for a purpose of making a presentation. We were strangers to each
other but expected commitment in terms of attendance, communication, meetings and quality of work.
It can be argued that individuals can be demotivated by group project if they feel their success
depends on others who do not share this views and which might lead to discrimination and oppression
(CMU, 2015). However this might be resolved by a professional organisation of working process,
high motivation and personal responsibility of each group member indicating a successful group
development. This project was a valuable experience for developing our teamwork skills and in this
essay, I will discuss our group process and theories which can apply ... Show more content on

By projecting the JOHARI window (West, R. and Turner, L., 2009) on our group at the first stage
when we met it can be said that the Arena window representing facts about the members, their
feelings, desires, and emotions was very small. We had personal awareness towards each other and
probably unconsciously we behaved in a discriminatory way towards assessing each other as we did
not know professional qualities and how far we can trust each other in completing a reliable
presentation. As suggested by some research that group members can project their experience of
oppression and feeling of mistrust from their previous life experience (Lindsay and Orton, 2009). This
probably was the case with our group at the beginning of our project as we all wanted to achieve good
outcomes but had some mistrust in group work as a result of stereotyping the low level of the
communal responsibility. With time the Arena windows (West, R. and Turner, L., 2009) of our group
members expanded as we explored each other s ability to concentrate on the task, meet a deadline and
by giving each other feedback which was appreciated and increased our trust in each other. The group
members admitted that the turning point was a self disclosing process as described by Whitaker s
group focal conflict theory. There were only four group members out of five present at this time and

Negligence in Reporting the Jewish Holocaust
The Jewish Holocaust, one of the most horrific mass murders in human history, took place from
January 30, 1933 until May 8, 1945. Hitler blamed the Jewish population for Germany s downfalls at
the time, and his anti Semitic views eventually led Germany to create a complicated scheme of Jewish
extermination. Over six million Jewish lives were lost in this mass murder. America, usually portrayed
as the country that lends a helping hand to all nations in desperate need, did absolutely nothing to aid
the vulnerable Jews. America entirely neglected the Jewish Holocaust, did nothing to prevent the
catastrophe from worsening, and strongly opposed publicizing these issues in its media.
Auschwitz, the most well know and inhumane of the death camps during World War II, is an eternal
representation of the Holocaust. Auschwitz has come to signify the unthinkable horrors of Nazi ruling
and the major failure of U.S. government to take precise initiative in preventing the murder of millions
of innocent Jews. The State Department received an urgent report delivered by representative of the
World Jewish Congress, Gerhart Riegner, in August of 1942. This secretive report revealed to the
American government that the Germans were taking an active role in implementing a system to
entirely wipeout European Jews. Stephen Wise, President of the Jewish Congress refused to pass this
information on to its proposed audience, and insisted on a delay. America strongly lacked the
necessary attention and

Drug Company Marketing Campaigns Essay
Drug companies spend enormous amounts of money on advertising their products. From TV
commercials to print ads to bulk mail advertisements, they cover the entire spectrum of marketing
techniques. However, change is afoot and most drug companies are reevaluating their advertising
strategies and how they spend their money.
According to a recent Business Week article ( Drugmakers are Changing Channels ,
http:www.businessweek.com/print/magazine/content/05_33/b3947055_mz011.htm), the companies
have done considerable market research and as a result of the findings they have made significant
changes to their marketing strategies.

Another concern is the negative feedback from the recent revelations that some highly popular drugs
that were the subject of a huge advertising campaign Vioxx and Celebrex had some significant risk
factors that were not well advertised.
Since market research has shown the broad campaigns of the past are no longer effective, companies
are now focusing their campaigns at specific market segments with targeted ad buys. The article cites
the example of a company trying to reach the female market segment by buying ad time on channels
such as Lifetime and Oxygen...channels specifically focused on airing programming that appeals to
women. Targeted ad campaigns are more effective and cheaper, providing a greater return on
investment. A major untapped medium that most companies are now starting to exploit is the Internet.
There is some concern about this venue due to the recent history of unscrupulous businesses, however
companies are trying new methods of attracting market share. Pharmaceutical companies are teaming
with web based companies to help steer potential customers their way. As an example cited, Pfizer has
coordinated with WebMD so that when an individual searches for information on migraines they are
referred to a Pfizer sponsored site. Most companies are just now starting to explore the marketing
options a

The Importance Of The Kumbh Mela
The Kumbh Mela is a diverse pilgrimage of the Hindu faith. A ritual is something which occurs on the
daily for many people. It can be religious, secular or just something which is done regularly. Rituals
no matter what they are, create a connection to something which allows emotion for the adherant. This
multimodal is solely focused on the Hindu pilgrimage, Kumbh Mela, the purpose it offers to
adherants, the key beliefs and religious identity that connect adherants to it, lived experiences of past
attendees and formal teachings. The Kumbh Mela pilgrimage is significant to adherants as it plays an
important role in the Hindu faith and it influences adherents with religious traditions by assisting them
to transition into living out the core values / traditions thoroughly. The Kumbh Mela is a pilgrimage
which offers many rituals to religiously or spiritually inclined and non religiously inclined individuals,
while maintaining the lived experiences for some. There are many reasons why adherants attend the
Kumbh mela. The main reason is to cleanse their s and their ancestors past sins. They do this by
bathing in the river ganges. The Kumbh Mela occurs once every 12 years in Ujjain, India. It is the
largest spiritual and religious gathering in the world with usually between 80 120 million attendees.
The pilgrimage runs for 55 days and there are different bathing times for certain groups of people.

Federal Form Of Government In The United States
Federal government has been the form of government used in our country since the ratification of the
Constitution in 1788. A federalist government lies between both unitary and confederal systems.
Utilizing many aspects of both forms of government, the founders of our country took keystone ideas
from many renowned political theorists. These ideas formed our government through a system of
checks and balances giving the people the power for change, without putting too much power in the
national or states governments. Through our federal form of government there are many positive
aspects not found in unitary or confederal countries. As the United States is such a large country it
would be impractical to attempt to have a powerful central authority.

Synthetic Steroids
Introduction
There are two different types of steroids: natural steroids and synthetic steroids. Natural steroids are
made from fats in the body. Any of a large group of fat soluble organic compounds, such as: sterols,
bile acids, and sex hormones, most of which have specific physiological action (Steriod, n.d.). The
human body naturally produces the following steroids: sex steroids, corticosteroids,
mineralocorticoids, bile acid, and sterols. Sex steroids are made up of androgens and estrogens.
Androgen is the male hormone that the body produces and is divided into two parts: androgenic and
anabolic. Androgenic is the part involved in developing the male sex characteristics. Anabolic is the

Differences In Citizen Kane And Pulp Fiction
Throughout the years the film industry has gone through a variety of changes. Films have been
modified to have color, a better picture quality and a greater sound quality. Another thing that has
changed is the differences in the openness and use of graphic scenes in films. Some of these examples
can be seen in films like the (1941) Citizen Kane as well as in the (1994) Pulp Fiction.
One of the differences in Citizen Kane And Pulp Fiction are the differentiating themes and how
liberalism and straightforwardness has changed over time. Citizen Kane, directed by Orson Welles is a
film about a Reporter who is on a mission to solve the last words of a very popular journalist, but,

The Monkey s Paws Short Story Summary
Appreciating what you have
Greed and lust for something you don t need can lead to tragic consequences Amoruso . The story, The
Monkey s Paws is about a magical, enchanted monkey s paw, that was given to Mr. and Mrs. White by
Sergeant Major Morris. The Sergeant Major has explained to them that the paw had a spell cast. The
Sergeant Major warns him about the consequences and then throws it into the fire but then Mr. White
pulls it out. After The Sergeant left, Mr. White wishes for 200 pounds to pay off the house. The next
day, the couple s son Herbert is killed in an accident at work, and the company pays the couple 200
pounds in compensation (Jacobs, 1 5), This connects to the theme of Greed and lust for something you
don t need can lead to tragic consequences Amoruso because the couple did not know what they were
getting into but were willing to make a wish even though they did not need it. This theme is conveyed
by the literate techniques of description and dialogue to accomplish the goals of creating a setting,

Dopamine Essay
Dopamine A chemical of the brain known by most people as the feel good hormone or reward
chemical is dopamine. It is a primary neurotransmitter associated with serotonin, oxytocin, and
endorphins. A great amount of information on dopamine has been studied by researchers, yet there is
still so much to learn. This paper will discuss the function, location, and diseases accredited to
dopamine.
Functions
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter or chemical messenger of the brain. Its main responsibility is to send
messages to the central nervous system by allowing information to pass from one neuron to the next.
Its influences range from a wide variety of different roles and has a major effect on the brain.

occur when the dopamine levels in the brain are imbalanced. Schizophrenia occurs when a person s

bipolar disorder. Treatment usually includes a medication with a dopamine inhibitor, which limits the
pace of dopamine transferring from one neuron to another. On the opposite end of the spectrum,
diseases such as ADHD and depression are associated with lack of dopamine production (Alban
2017). Parkinson s is caused by the degeneration of the parts of the brain that manufacturer s

Section Two: Key Dynamics and Players Involved
Upon arrival on February 27th, Yoav Galant, Minister of Construction, stressed the utmost importance
of eliminating the housing crisis in Israel. Galant offered the proposal of Mordot Arnona where there
would be 2000 new housing units that will aid growing populations inside the new territory added to

the Minister of Internal Security, Gilad Erdan, because of its capability to threaten the security of
Israel. Galant s reasoning behind this proposal is the expansion of housing in Jerusalem. The
neighborhood will allow for the continuation of growth and development, providing for the housing
demand. With this implemented, it will strengthen Jerusalem as the capital. The lack of housing is one
of the highest concerns for Galant. On the basis of needing 250,000 houses due to a shortage of
housing, there was a 75% increase in housing costs from 2008 2015. Galant proposed the annexation
of areas E1 and Ma ale Adumim located East of Jerusalem in order to create more space to distribute

Human Gait Essay
Abstract ABSTRACT One of the main goals of computer vision research is to develop methods for
recognition of objects and events. A subclass of these problems is the recognition of humans and their
activities. Recognition of humans from arbitrary viewpoints is an important requirement for different
applications such as intelligent environments, surveillance and access control. Human gait is an
attractive modality for recognizing people at a distance. Human gait is a spatio temporal phenomenon
that characterizes the motion characteristics of an individual. There is an increased interest in gait as a
biometric, mainly due to its nonintrusive as well as non concealable nature. It is possible to detect and
measure gait even in low ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goal of gait recognition research is to determine how that information can be extracted from
images. The fact that each person seems to have a distinctive (idiosyncratic) way of walking is hardly
surprising from a biomechanics standpoint. Human ambulation consists of synchronized integrated
movements of hundreds of muscles and joints in the body. Although these movements follow the same
basic pattern for all humans, they seem to vary from one individual to another in certain details such
as their relative timing and magnitudes. Much research in biomechanics and clinical gait analysis
(among others) is devoted to the study of the inter person and intra person variability of gait (albeit not
for the purpose of recognition, but rather to determine normal vs. pathological ranges of 3
Introduction variation). The major sources of inter person variability are attributed to physical
makeup, such as body mass and lengths of limbs, while the sources for intra person variability are
things like walking surface, footwear, mood and fatigue. Nonetheless, the gait of any one individual is
known to be fairly repeatable when walking under the same conditions. This intra person consistency
and inter person variability are what makes gait suitable (desirable) for use as a biometric. In this
proposal, we present a gait recognition technique which takes a motionbased recognition approach,
and use correspondence free

Irony In The Pearl
What if something seems so worthwhile, you would risk everything to try to get it? The Pearl by John
Steinbeck focuses on a man named Kino. Kino found a pearl whose value was so great that it could

and let suspicion, anger, and fear overtake him. Throughout the book, Kino s family is subjected to
multiple tragedies. A tragedy is an event causing great suffering, destruction, and distress, like a
serious accident. Kino caused the tragedies his family experienced because he only cared about the
pearl, had no control over himself, and didn t listen to others.

Bandura Child Development
Throughout the session, there were signs of different theorists portrayed. One of them was Bandura,
social learning theory. Bandura states that children learn through their environment through the
surrounding people, meaning, children see people around them which led them to behave in various
ways (MacLeod, 2016). This illustrated through the Bobo doll experiment (Bandura, 1961). When
Phoebe started to use the breath level technique with Gabriel she had managed to get his attention, and
when she did, he would copy her, give more eye contact and smile. Gabriel also started to share as he
saw others doing the same, this process called modelling. Another comparison element of a theorist

with the environment (Bee et al., 2006). Phoebe taught Gabriel how to get out of his comfort zone and
interact with the outside world, portrayed through the intensive interaction with Phoebe. The
developmental stages can relate to Maslow s hierarchy of needs because the basic needs have to

illustrates the nature of helicopter parenting upon today s youth. We will include a contemporary
source which likewise explores this challenging youth issue. Essentially, this poem displays the
damage that helicopter parenting can have on a child s youth, oppressing them, taking their childhood
away from them.
Angelou s poem I Know Why the Cages Bird Sings expresses the idea that freedom is a natural state
and knowledge of this fact cannot be rid of by any amount of oppression, limitation or confinement
from different opportunities. The poem contrasts a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the last stanza, the caged bird s song symbolises the emotions and cries of freedom. The
combination of the two represents that there is a need for every child to reach their full potential.
Something that cannot be achieved with helicopter parenting and the barriers placed upon them.
This poem contains another literary device called juxtaposition. The free bird is juxtaposed with the
caged bird, both are described but they are very different. Adults need to think about how they use
their power over children. Helicopter parenting; is using power that causes children to be restricted
and to shrivel up inside rather than flourish just like the caged and free bird in the poem. Angelou s
free bird is a free child, someone who has the freedom to pursue their ambitions no matter how
questionably they become.
Near the end of the poem it is revealed that the bird opens his throat to sing Maya Angelou felt this
way in her own life. She wrote, sang and danced because it was her way of expressing her longing for
freedom despite being oppressed for most of her life. Although freedom, to the caged bird, is fearful
because it is unknown , he still sings a fearful trill . The cries of help are heard but the overarching
parents only hear it as background noise.
Maya felt strongly about oppression and this pushed her to make this poem to achieve social justice

Mauss Gift-Exchange
From Gifts to Commodities: An Introduction to the Anthropology of Exchange
Introduction
Marcel Mauss suggested that there exist two distinct types of exchange in human societies: gift
exchange and commodity exchange. He also classified societies based on the dominant type of
exchange in their economic system. For instance, small scale, traditional societies are associated with
gift economy, whereas Western societies are associated with commodity economy. Mauss distinction
between the two types of exchange was widely accepted in mainstream social anthropology, yet some
scholars have suggested that the mutually exclusive contrast between gifts and commodities exchange
is unjustified (Rus, 2008), that is, commodity exchange does indeed contain elements that are
traditionally attributed to gift exchange. This essay will explore the major differences between the two
types of exchange based on Mauss theory on reciprocity, and demonstrate with examples the presence
of hybrid form of exchange in capitalist societies.
Functions of gift exchange and commodity exchange Gift exchange and commodity exchange serve
different purposes and functions in the society. According to Mauss, the exchange of presents does not

(1954, p.13) Another function of gift exchange in many preindustrial societies is to re distribute
resources among the communities. During the Potlatch festival in the Pacific Northwest coast in
Canada and North America, rich people give away their wealth and possessions to other individuals of
the same community. However, they do not receive material presents in return but recognition,
prestige and status from the rest of the community. Hence, gift exchange allows wealth to flow in uni

Succinate Dehydrogenase
The experiment aimed to determine the effectiveness of differential centrifugation and tissue
homogenisation methods of separating and purifying subcellular organelles from liver tissue.
Effectiveness was determined by assaying for the activity of marker enzymes specific to organelles in
each fraction and calculating the specific activities and percentage distribution of each enzyme in each
fraction (Watson, 2016).
The first enzyme marker used was Succinate Dehydrogenase which catalyses the oxidation of
succinate to fumarate in the tricarboxylic acid cycle (Hollywood, et al., 2010). This cycle occurs
within mitochondria and succinate dehydrogenase is specifically found within the inner mitochondrial
membrane. Therefore, succinate dehydrogenase activity is an indicator of mitochondrial activity
(Berg, et al., 2007). Mitochondria are large organelles, approximately 0.5 1m in diameter and 5

The heavy membrane fraction had the highest percentage distribution (93.236 %) of succinate
dehydrogenase, indicating good separation of the mitochondria into their predicted fraction and the
success of differential centrifugation as a method of separation. A small percentage of succinate
dehydrogenase was also found in the light membrane and cytosolic fractions: 6.131 % and 0.633 %
respectively. The activity in these two fractions could be due to excessive homogenisation causing
fragmentation of mitochondria into small low density fragments. The lower density meant they
achieved sedimentation at higher centrifugal forces than expected resulting in separation into the light
membrane or cytosol fraction (Claude, 1946). Additionally, mitochondrial activity could be present in
the light membrane fraction due to disruption of the heavy membrane pellet during transfer of the
supernatant, causing the pellet to contaminate the

Education And Study At Universities
There are many reasons why people decide to continue their education and study at Universities. It
may be for enjoyment, for learning a new skill, for networking, or for career advancement, etc.
However, for most people, education is an investment for the future, and is considered as a gateway to
obtaining higher earnings in the future either via the job market or self employment. It s commonly
believed that the higher the qualification you get, the higher the chance you would get a well paid job.
However, what about for entrepreneurs? People who don t want to work in a steady paid job, but who
wants to be their own boss. Do entrepreneurs need to study for a University degree? Would, in the
course of studying a degree, increase the chance of becoming a successful entrepreneur? Does higher
education teach the necessary skills to help people be successful in running a business? Thus, lead to
my research topic. I would like to investigate whether successful entrepreneurs obtained their
necessary skills whilst studying at University.
To begin with, how do we define a successful entrepreneur ? The Cambridge Dictionary defines
successful as achieving the results wanted or hope for/ having achieved a lot, become popular, and/ or
made a lot of money [Cambridge Dictionaries Online, 2014], and the definition of an entrepreneur is
someone who starts their own business, especially when this involves seeing a new opportunity
[Cambridge Dictionaries Online, 2014].

How Did King James Impact On English
King James I and IV James Charles Stuart was King of Scotland from 1567 to 1625 and King of
England from 1603 to 1625 (Mathew). James mother, Mary, queen of Scots, was forced to abdicate in
1567, making James the King of Scotland. King James is also known for translating the Bible into
English in 1602, finishing the process in 1611. Since the Bible was translated, it has allowed a larger
variety of people to understand religion. Although King James was not very religious, he was a great
Christian influencer because he translated the Bible into the English language which allowed the
commoners to not only read the Bible, but also have a closer relationship to God. Ironically, King
James was not that religious, but he had a great impact on the Christian people. In addition, James
famously oversaw a new authorized English translation of the Bible, published in 1611, which became
known as the King James Version (Mathew). In 1602, King James began translating the Bible into the
English language, allowing the Christian community to be able to completely understand the Bible.
Above all, One of James s great contributions to England was the Authorised King James s Version of
the bible (1611) which was to become the standard text for more than 250 years ( James I and VI
(1566 1625 ). Ultimately, King James had an immense impact on the Christian society due to the
translation, he also greatly impacted England at the same time. By translating the Bible into English,

After years of being imprisoned with those unfit for society, Brooks has a role and purpose in his new
world of isolation. The viewer is first introduced to Brooks in the prison cafeteria when Andy; a new

men, revealing a subtle disconnect from the other inmates. The separation between Brooks and the
men reflects that of the typical isolation that elderly face in society. However Andy, a new and fearful

Interest Group Politics and Collective Action
The Human Rights Campaign is the largest gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender advocacy group in
the nation. With over 400,000 members, the group is able to lobby very effectively in Washington and
has an impressive legislative record. The HRC began in 1980 as a fund to raise money for gay
supportive congressional candidates. It was meant to be a response to the successful right wing groups
at the time, including the National Conservative Political Action Committee and Moral Majority. By
1984, the Human Rights Campaign Fund was effectively supporting congressional candidates, raising
over 475,000 dollars. By 1990, the HRC had a membership of 25 thousand, and was organizing ...

The HRC, however, retains a high degree of legitimacy and effectiveness in the political world mainly
because rights advocacy positions have a high salience in the American political system. The group s
small, personalized constituency may even help in its efforts to mobilize effectively, but that will be
discussed in the next section. When examining the dynamics of any interest group, one benefits from
keeping in mind Mancur Olson s Logic of Collective Action. Each and every group of people must
deal with the problem of collective action, the problem of discovering how to get each individual to
act and contribute towards furthering a common interest. As I said before, the Human Rights
Campaign may benefit from having a smaller, more personalized base of members. The gay
community is extremely cohesive, especially when compared to other social and even ethnic groups.
In many cities, gays reside, work, and socialize within a very tight sphere. This general characteristic
of the gay community aids the HRC in combating the collective action problem since it makes the
membership small and easier to break into even smaller parts. Larger, more loosely bound groups have
a difficult time organizing because members perceive lower social benefits and greater probability that
others in the group will do the work for them (Olson). The HRC will still have to deal with this free

National Spumoni Day in the United States The 21st of August is National Spumoni Day. National
Spumoni Day is an unofficial national holiday that is observed in the United States. Spumoni is an
Italian dessert that is constructed from layers of ice cream, whipped cream, nuts, and candied fruit.
There are three layers to a traditional spumoni, chocolate, cherry, and pistachio. Each layer is mixed
with nuts and dried fruit to create this special treat. Spumoni is similar to ice cream, the Neapolitan ice
cream, but it is different. Spumoni is different than ice cream because it is sliced and not scooped. This
dessert was crafted in Naples and was brought to the America s by an influx of Italian immigrants. The
late 1800 s saw an influx in immigration and many traditions such as the spumoni were brought over

Why You Should Start Shopping For A New Vehicle
With all the new 2008 vehicles rolling onto the car dealership lots, it s hard not to start thinking about
trading in your wheels for a newer model. Before taking the plunge, consider these tips for getting the
best deal. Time is on Your Side There are certain times of the year that are better than others for
snagging a great deal on a new vehicle. It just depends on what your goals are. If your goal is to trade
up to a 2008 model, the best time to do this is in the spring of 2008. Most dealerships will still have
plenty of brand new, never been driven vehicles out on the lot. If you re simply looking to trade up,
then you should start shopping for a 2007 model now. Any models from last year that haven t sold will
be deeply discounted to make room for next year s model. Shopping during different months can also
yield surprisingly deep discounts. For example, November is historically the slowest month for
vehicles sales, new or used. Since the majority of Americans are focused on planning for the holidays,
sales slow down significantly. Sales people are more likely to come to their bottom dollar negotiating
figure more quickly during November, thereby making negotiations easier on you. Generally,
shopping in the early winter months right after the holidays is also a good time to snag deals. If that is
not enough, the day of the month you choose to shop can also pay off. The closer to the end of the
month you can shop, the better your deal will be. This is because the

Communities Essay
Communitites
When most people talk about community, they think of a location, an area in which people live. By
definition community is a group of people living in the same location and under the same government.
Community can also be defined as a group of people with the same common interests or segments in
society. However, these definitions, which can be found in any dictionary, are only the tip of the
iceberg when it comes to explaining what community really is. Community is the memories and
traditions of a certain area, as well as the interactions and responsibilities of its members. In order to
truly belong to a community people must follow a set of values. These communal values are needed to
provide stability among ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many times it is the responsibility of the community to speak out about problems. Communities are
the only effective power that can limit consumption, pollution, and the degradation of nature
(Ehrenfeld 21). A program such as Neighborhood Watch is a good example of people coming together
on a community level to fix and prevent problems.
Another aspect of good community, which can be seen in farm communities, is the idea of
stewardship and treatment of the land. In the past, the communal system in farm communities was that
everyone relied on each other for survival. Then with the introduction of modern economic systems,
that was drastically changed in some areas. Farmers then relied more on making a profit and getting
the most money out of their land. David Kline represented his ideas that one must be a steward to the
mysteries of god (39). This example of how farm communities have changed resembles some of the
problems facing large rural communities today.
One major problem with communities today is that people frequently move between different areas
where every house looks identical. Such communities are like packaged communities and lack
dynamism. Harry W. Paige would call people living in packaged communities, the rootless ones,
because they lack a sense of place and belonging. Paige also expresses the idea of retirement
communities and how they can never mimic the real feeling of home. Even if they claim to be living

Essay On Valuation Risk And Return
Valuation, Risk, and Return
Five years ago, Laissez Faire Recliners issued $10,000,000 of corporate bonds with a 30 year
maturity. The bonds have a coupon rate of 10.125%, pay interest semiannually, and have a par value
of $1,000 per bond. The bonds are currently trading at a price of $879.625 per bond. A 25 year
Treasury bond with a 6.825% coupon rate (paid semi annual) and $1,000 par is currently selling for
$975.42. In order to find the yield spread between the corporate bonds and the Treasury bonds we
must first find the yields of both bonds. The yield is the amount of return an investor can expect to
receive from a bond. The yield for the corporate bond (found using the yield formula in excel) is
11.57%. The yield for the Treasury ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition we believe the firm is in a constant state of growth, and our required rate of return for
investments at the risk level of 18%. The firm s common stock is currently trading for $45 per share.
If we are looking at whether or not we would purchase these shares or not we must first calculate the
return on equity, which is done by net income (1,417,500) by the stockholders equity (6,000,000),
which gives us a return of equity of 15.5%. This is only accurate when calculating the present value of
cash flows method. Another method is the free cash flow method, which we calculate by looking at
the year, growth status, growth rate, FCF calculation, FCF and WACC. The growth status is given as
constant and the growth rate is given at 15.5%. This makes the FCF calculation of 1.15. The first year
FCF is also given as $109,237. In order to calculate the following years FCF we take the first years
FCF ($109,237) and multiply it by (1+WACC) the weighted average cost of capital is also given at the
appropriate discount rate of 15.83%. Using the before mentioned formula we find that the FCF of year
two is $126529.22. If Laissez Faire s common stock were to have a more fluctuated growth pater
(25% in years 1 through 6, 20% in years 7 through 10, and 15% for years 11 and beyond), the
purchase decision would change. This growth is exponentially more profitable to the purchaser and
guarantees a more

Racism In Angie Thomas s The Hate U Give
Angie Thomas novel The Hate U Give is the story of a teenage girl facing racism in the world around
her. Starr Carter lives in Garden Heights, a neighborhood filled with gangs, when one of her best
friends Khalil is shot by the police, she is quick to know he had been killed because of the racism that
exists in our world. Throughout the novel, Starr is constantly trying to show the world why Khalil died
in order to get justice for his death. She does not believe he deserved to die or the cop who shot Khalil
deserves to walk free of the crime he committed. Through different characters, the author is able to
convey the message of one should not form opinions on someone or something based on stereotypes.
Throughout the novel, some characters struggle with judging people before they know their past.
Angie Thomas is able to get this across to readers not only through Starr, but also characters such as
her father Maverick, her friends from school, and even Officer Cruise, the officer who killed Khalil.
Stereotypes in the novel are one of the main causes for Khalil s death. The officer had killed Khalil
because he had automatically assumed Khalil was a threat to him. Officer Cruise treated both Khalil
and Starr with disrespect at the time of the arrest because they are African American. When Khalil
began to move in order to ask Starr if she was okay, the Officer assumed he was reaching for a
weapon because he had already formed an opinion about Khalil based on his skin color even

Criticisms Of A Humanistic Psychodynamic Approach
There can be many criticisms for humanistic therapy. This approach can be thought of as too positive
at times, in regards to human behavior. With a humanistic approach individuals are assumed to be
naturally good and will decide to follow the most positive way of doing things, by either making
themselves and the world around them a better place (Mcleod, 2015). Choice and free will at times
can be limited to some people, which then can make the application of this approach difficult.
According to McLeod, Humanistic psychologists argue that objective reality is less important than a
person s subjective perception and understanding of the world . (Mcleod, 2015). This can cause issues
when trying to develop treatment and study it, different factors must be taken into consideration. This

The client centered method is no longer defined in terms of specific techniques or modes of response,
but rather in terms of certain basic attitudes (Gendlin, 1962 as cited in Rogers, 1957, 1959). With the
isolation of schizophrenic patients and also the fact that these patients were assigned psychotherapy
involuntarily , would account for their characteristic refusals, silences, and absence of verbal
exploration, as previously mentioned. (Gendlin, 1962). According to Gendlin, the attitudes of the
therapists had the tendency to greatly increase patients reactions and behaviors, and as such, lead to
modifications in their psychotherapy process. Second, the genuine expressiveness of the of the
therapist is significant as well. It is important for the therapist to express themselves in a way that they
clearly state their feelings at the time, without judgment. It can be said that when therapists take this
approach they have the ability to often solidify and continue relationships by expressing themselves
openly and being genuine. (Gendlin,

Bringing Back the Five Year High School Program Bringing Back the Five Year High School Program For many teens, their four years of high school have been a memorable and transforming experience, but for others, high school was just another brick building keeping them from the real world. But what if another year of education was added back to the four year program and it assisted students with their high school experience? Since 2003, Toronto high schools have removed the fifth year of the high school program but people have spoken about bringing back the extra year to help students with course averages, stress and decrease the dropout rate. It gives them time to relax from other sources of stress like increased work load. It is said that having academic courses will help students stay on task and become persistent because of the increased amount of work they need to complete, however, an abundance school work can cause extreme stress and/or anxiety. If a student were to have a course schedule of Physics, biology, Chemistry, Advanced functions, Calculus and French, he/she would need some time to relax in a day and express themselves thorough one of their interests, so they may choose to take an arts course (i.e. Drama, Dance, Media Studies, etc.) or join a club or activity. The five year high school program can help with improving a student s overall average which will later be of value to them when applying to post secondary schools. A student with a lower grade average in their final year of highs school will have a smaller chance of getting accepted into the university/college program of their choice whereas a student with a higher average during their final high school year will have a greater chance of being accepted into university/college program of their choice. The fifth year will provide more time to focus on school work and to receive help from teachers. Whether they are male or female, they have the power to be something when they grow up. But if their life is cut short, the opportunity to do so is taken away. In 1976, China implemented what is known as the quot; One Child Policy quot; in order to try and solve their problem of overpopulation (McDonald, 1996). Although the policy may seem as though it is a good idea in solving the problem, the consequences of this policy has lead to female infanticide. If the couple decides that the child they want is a male, they must decide on what to do with this child. What happens to the child ranges from giving them up to state orphanages to murder. Due to the enforcement of the one child policy, many female children end up in orphanages (Beijing Review, 1997). Being put into an orphanage in our society would give the child a chance to live and maybe even be adopted by another family. In China, the conditions in the orphanages are so filthy that the neglect that they would have at home if the couple decided to keep the female would be better than the maltreatment they would receive. Many female children end up in orphanages in China rarely having males occupy them unless there was something wrong with the child. Each month 90 percent from 50 to 60 baby girls arrive in one of the many orphanages and end their lives their (Choe, 1995). It can be argued that individuals can be demotivated by group project if they feel their success depends on others who do not share this views and which might lead to discrimination and oppression (CMU, 2015). • 5. Negligence in Reporting the Jewish Holocaust The Jewish Holocaust, one of the most horrific mass murders in human history, took place from January 30, 1933 until May 8, 1945. Hitler blamed the Jewish population for Germany s downfalls at the time, and his anti Semitic views eventually led Germany to create a complicated scheme of Jewish extermination. Over six million Jewish lives were lost in this mass murder. America, usually portrayed as the country that lends a helping hand to all nations in desperate need, did absolutely nothing to aid the vulnerable Jews. America entirely neglected the Jewish Holocaust, did nothing to prevent the catastrophe from worsening, and strongly opposed publicizing these issues in its media. Auschwitz, the most well know and inhumane of the death camps during World War II, is an eternal representation of the Holocaust. Auschwitz has come to signify the unthinkable horrors of Nazi ruling and the major failure of U.S. government to take precise initiative in preventing the murder of millions of innocent Jews. The State Department received an urgent report delivered by representative of the World Jewish Congress, Gerhart Riegner, in August of 1942. This secretive report revealed to the American government that the Germans were taking an active role in implementing a system to entirely wipeout European Jews. Human gait is an attractive modality for recognizing people at a distance. Human gait is a spatio temporal phenomenon that characterizes the motion characteristics of an individual. Although these movements follow the same basic pattern for all humans, they seem to vary from one individual to another in certain details such as their relative timing and magnitudes. Much research in biomechanics and clinical gait analysis (among others) is devoted to the study of the inter person and intra person variability of gait (albeit not for the purpose of recognition, but rather to determine normal vs. pathological ranges of 3 Introduction variation). The major sources of inter person variability are attributed to physical makeup, such as body mass and lengths of limbs, while the sources for intra person variability are things like walking surface, footwear, mood and fatigue. • 23. Mauss Gift-Exchange From Gifts to Commodities: An Introduction to the Anthropology of Exchange Introduction Marcel Mauss suggested that there exist two distinct types of exchange in human societies: gift exchange and commodity exchange. He also classified societies based on the dominant type of exchange in their economic system. For instance, small scale, traditional societies are associated with gift economy, whereas Western societies are associated with commodity economy. Mauss distinction between the two types of exchange was widely accepted in mainstream social anthropology, yet some scholars have suggested that the mutually exclusive contrast between gifts and commodities exchange is unjustified (Rus, 2008), that is, commodity exchange does indeed contain elements that are traditionally attributed to gift exchange. This essay will explore the major differences between the two types of exchange based on Mauss theory on reciprocity, and demonstrate with examples the presence of hybrid form of exchange in capitalist societies. • 24. Succinate Dehydrogenase The experiment aimed to determine the effectiveness of differential centrifugation and tissue homogenisation methods of separating and purifying subcellular organelles from liver tissue. Effectiveness was determined by assaying for the activity of marker enzymes specific to organelles in each fraction and calculating the specific activities and percentage distribution of each enzyme in each fraction (Watson, 2016). The first enzyme marker used was Succinate Dehydrogenase which catalyses the oxidation of succinate to fumarate in the tricarboxylic acid cycle (Hollywood, et al., 2010). This cycle occurs within mitochondria and succinate dehydrogenase is specifically found within the inner mitochondrial membrane. Therefore, succinate dehydrogenase activity is an indicator of mitochondrial activity (Berg, et al., 2007). A small percentage of succinate dehydrogenase was also found in the light membrane and cytosolic fractions: 6.131 % and 0.633 % respectively. The activity in these two fractions could be due to excessive homogenisation causing fragmentation of mitochondria into small low density fragments. The lower density meant they achieved sedimentation at higher centrifugal forces than expected resulting in separation into the light membrane or cytosol fraction (Claude, 1946). Additionally, mitochondrial activity could be present in the light membrane fraction due to disruption of the heavy membrane pellet during transfer of the supernatant, causing the pellet to contaminate the ... It may be for enjoyment, for learning a new skill, for networking, or for career advancement, etc. However, for most people, education is an investment for the future, and is considered as a gateway to obtaining higher earnings in the future either via the job market or self employment. It s commonly believed that the higher the qualification you get, the higher the chance you would get a well paid job. However, what about for entrepreneurs? People who don t want to work in a steady paid job, but who wants to be their own boss. Do entrepreneurs need to study for a University degree? Would, in the course of studying a degree, increase the chance of becoming a successful entrepreneur? Does higher education teach the necessary skills to help people be successful in running a business? Thus, lead to my research topic. I would like to investigate whether successful entrepreneurs obtained their necessary skills whilst studying at University. To begin with, how do we define a successful entrepreneur ? The Cambridge Dictionary defines successful as achieving the results wanted or hope for/ having achieved a lot, become popular, and/ or made a lot of money [Cambridge Dictionaries Online, 2014], and the definition of an entrepreneur is someone who starts their own business, especially when this involves seeing a new opportunity [Cambridge Dictionaries Online, 2014]. ... • 26. How Did King James Impact On English King James I and IV James Charles Stuart was King of Scotland from 1567 to 1625 and King of England from 1603 to 1625 (Mathew). James mother, Mary, queen of Scots, was forced to abdicate in 1567, making James the King of Scotland. King James is also known for translating the Bible into English in 1602, finishing the process in 1611. Since the Bible was translated, it has allowed a larger variety of people to understand religion. Although King James was not very religious, he was a great Christian influencer because he translated the Bible into the English language which allowed the commoners to not only read the Bible, but also have a closer relationship to God. Ironically, King James was not that religious, but he had a great impact on the Christian people. In addition, James famously oversaw a new authorized English translation of the Bible, published in 1611, which became known as the King James Version (Mathew). In 1602, King James began translating the Bible into the English language, allowing the Christian community to be able to completely understand the Bible. Above all, One of James s great contributions to England was the Authorised King James s Version of the bible (1611) which was to become the standard text for more than 250 years ( James I and VI (1566 1625 ). When examining the dynamics of any interest group, one benefits from keeping in mind Mancur Olson s Logic of Collective Action. Each and every group of people must deal with the problem of collective action, the problem of discovering how to get each individual to act and contribute towards furthering a common interest. As I said before, the Human Rights Campaign may benefit from having a smaller, more personalized base of members. The gay community is extremely cohesive, especially when compared to other social and even ethnic groups. In many cities, gays reside, work, and socialize within a very tight sphere. This general characteristic of the gay community aids the HRC in combating the collective action problem since it makes the membership small and easier to break into even smaller parts. Larger, more loosely bound groups have a difficult time organizing because members perceive lower social benefits and greater probability that others in the group will do the work for them (Olson). Why You Should Start Shopping For A New Vehicle With all the new 2008 vehicles rolling onto the car dealership lots, it s hard not to start thinking about trading in your wheels for a newer model. Before taking the plunge, consider these tips for getting the best deal. Time is on Your Side There are certain times of the year that are better than others for snagging a great deal on a new vehicle. It just depends on what your goals are. If your goal is to trade up to a 2008 model, the best time to do this is in the spring of 2008. Most dealerships will still have plenty of brand new, never been driven vehicles out on the lot. If you re simply looking to trade up, then you should start shopping for a 2007 model now. Any models from last year that haven t sold will be deeply discounted to make room for next year s model. Shopping during different months can also yield surprisingly deep discounts. For example, November is historically the slowest month for vehicles sales, new or used. Since the majority of Americans are focused on planning for the holidays, sales slow down significantly. Sales people are more likely to come to their bottom dollar negotiating figure more quickly during November, thereby making negotiations easier on you. Generally, shopping in the early winter months right after the holidays is also a good time to snag deals. If that is not enough, the day of the month you choose to shop can also pay off. The closer to the end of the month you can shop, the better your deal will be. This is because the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many times it is the responsibility of the community to speak out about problems. Communities are the only effective power that can limit consumption, pollution, and the degradation of nature (Ehrenfeld 21). A program such as Neighborhood Watch is a good example of people coming together on a community level to fix and prevent problems. Another aspect of good community, which can be seen in farm communities, is the idea of stewardship and treatment of the land. In the past, the communal system in farm communities was that everyone relied on each other for survival. Then with the introduction of modern economic systems, that was drastically changed in some areas. Farmers then relied more on making a profit and getting the most money out of their land. David Kline represented his ideas that one must be a steward to the mysteries of god (39). This example of how farm communities have changed resembles some of the problems facing large rural communities today. One major problem with communities today is that people frequently move between different areas where every house looks identical. Such communities are like packaged communities and lack dynamism. Harry W. Paige would call people living in packaged communities, the rootless ones, because they lack a sense of place and belonging. Paige also expresses the idea of retirement communities and how they can never mimic the real feeling of home. Even if they claim to be living ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
