Eros And Thanatos Analysis
Eros represents the combination of all human tendencies within us that are directed towards the will to
live in the way that we desire while Thanatos represents the inevitable impulse towards death, which
are the driving forces in human existence. In the beginning of the book, Edna is not aware of her
subconscious, and she is complacent in her marriage to Leonce. Because it is ingrained in society that
her duties in life are to serve and comply to Leonce s needs she has not the time to feel her own
feelings or understand what she longs for in life. Their really is no time of self reflection. It is only
after Edna has her first swim on page 27 when she starts to connect with her soul. But that night she
was like the little tottering, stumbling, clutching child, who of a sudden realizes its powers, and walks
for the first time alone, boldly and with over confidence (Chopin) It is in this moment, A feeling of
exultation overtook her, as if some power of significant import had been given her soul (Chopin 27).
We see her eros drive spark sensual feelings with Robert after the sea is involved. In chapter 24,
Robert asks Edna to come into the water and Edna knowing she should decline, allowed her impulse,
eros, to take control of her. The sea brought out her subconscious. It is after swimming that she
becomes attracted to Robert, but I would argue that she has subconsciously had this lust and coming in
contact with eros drew it out. It is also through eros that brings out her

Wireless Technologies
Wireless Technologies
Introduction
As wireless technology has begun to mature, the demand for wireless products has increased as new
applications for the technology are realized. One application for wireless technology at the U.S. Naval
Academy is to use the wireless capability to enhance classroom instruction. Currently the Electrical
Engineering and Physics Departments have wireless access points and wireless laptops/desktops
available for classroom instruction. The purpose of this report is to provide the technical research
necessary to aid decision makers in determining which wireless technologies the Naval Academy
should invest.
Background
In a wireless network, computers communicate with the network through a radio ... Show more

Each access point can practically service between 32 to 64 users, depending upon manufacturer. The
bandwidth will be shared by all users. The number of radio channels associated with each technology
will vary by technology and product manufacturer. Multiple channels allows for multiple access points
to be collocated in order to provide access for a larger number of users.
Current USNA Uses
The Electrical Engineering Department currently uses the Dell suite with a wireless access point and
24 wireless laptops. They use the wireless network for in class projects where the use of either
simulation (OPNET) or design software (PSPICE) is being taught and used.
The Physics department is using a LinkSys 802.11b wireless access point and LinkSys wireless NIC
cards with desktop computers. Their primary use is for internet access.
Recommendation
The best technology system for the Naval Academy would be the 802.11a standard. It has 54 Mbps
throughput capability as well as adequate range, sufficient for classroom use. Since the 54 Mbps is
shared amongst all users, it would allow, at a minimum, 2 Mbps for each user in a class of 20
midshipmen operating simultaneously. It also has higher data rates at comparable distances

Essay Sylvia Plath s Mirror
Sylvia Plath s Mirror
Sylvia Plath s Mirror offers a unique perspective on the attitudes of aging. Mirror displays tremendous
insight and objectivity into the natural human behavior of growing older. Plath is able to emphasize
the loneliness, hope, despair, and insecurity that awaits us through mankind s incessant addiction with
reflection. Mirror expresses the problems associated with aging through terse comparisons between
reality and desire.
Plathe s strength of Mirror lies in its ability to establish a solid comparison among appearance and
human emotions between the first and second stanzas. At first Mirror introduces reflection as a precise
and accurate force through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also a very objective telling of both the aging and reflection process in that faces and darkness
separate us over and over stemming from the people who come and go in front of this mirror. Who are
almost getting in the way so to speak of its life and it can be assumed they already know the range of
emotions they are receiving when they look into this mirror.
Plathe s second stanza is clearly engineered to reveal the darker aspects of reflection. In the second
paragraph the perspective changes from a mirror to that of a lake. In doing so does the shift in
message for it marks the change in reflection from exact to distorted. She is also able to clearly show
this by utilizing a simple reflection of a woman: A woman bends over me searching my reaches for
what she really is. Then she turns to those liars, the candles or the moon. I see her back and reflect it
faithfully. She rewards me with tears and an agitation of hands. (Plathe lines 10 14) This example
infers that the woman was firmly searching for a specific reflection and that displays insecurity and
longing for something that might have passed due to age. This is especially true when taking into
account the candles or the moon which are symbols of romance thus leading towards the suspicion
that she was with or searching for somebody. The

From my previous work experience within real estate private equity, accounting and debt strategies, I

Essay The United States Must Abandon Nuclear Power
The United States Must Abandon Nuclear Power
The United States must re examine many policies previously accepted as reasonable, especially its
own national energy policy. As the largest overall and per capita energy consumer in the world, the
U.S. needs to decide upon a reasonable source of energy for the foreseeable future, especially since its
energy needs will increase dramatically during that time. With political instability likely to remain the
norm in the Middle East, oil continues to be an energy source of questionable reliability; in addition,
current estimates of worldwide reserves suggest we may in fact run out of oil entirely in the next fifty
years. Natural gas reserves are in fairly short supply too, and costs limit its ... Show more content on

The origins of nuclear power, in fact, should be enough to give one pause; fission reactions (albeit
uncontrolled ones) were originally intended to be used as weapons: the weapon, of course, being the
atomic bomb. The nuclear program began in earnest when Einstein himself, afraid that Hitler had a
team working on such a weapon, wrote to President Roosevelt to inform him that such a weapon
might be possible to build (Shrader Frechette 7). The development of the A bomb by the Manhattan
Project, its use in Japan and the effect on World War II are all well documented. (After the initial test
at Alamagordo, New Mexico, one of the bomb s major developers, J. Robert Oppenheimer, was
rumored to whisper: I am become death, the destroyer of worlds, when he saw the level of destruction
his new creation had achieved.) Less well known are the recommendations made by a panel of
Manhattan Project scientists about the post war uses of nuclear energy. The panel s report concluded,
The development of fission piles solely for the production of power for ordinary commercial use does
not appear economically sound nor advisable from the point of view of preserving natural resources ;
in other words, the first panel of experts on commercial nuclear energy and its resources felt uranium
was too expensive to waste on

Pros And Cons Of A Car
Car is one of the basic transportations that are needed by us. It goes along with trains, buses, ships,
airplanes, and any other means of transportations, which help people travel to different places without
so much effort and time wasted.
In ancient times, people only walk if they wanted to go to a different place, while others are using
horses to make the journey faster. However, not all of them are rich enough to have a horse. As time
passes by, few people were born with gifted minds and were able to discover and invent the train. And
without people noticing, new technologies were introduced in different aspects such as
communications, machineries, transportations, etc.
Car is the result of those never ending innovations in transportation technology. Every year, new car
models with unique and specific functions are released and introduced to the public. From the steam

Because of these, many rental car companies penalize even those young drivers with good records by
restricting some type of cars that will be rented, charging high daily fees and sometimes, banning
some drivers to rent a car.
In most times, drivers at the age of 18 to 21 are impossible to rent since they are renting a car under 25
years of age. But now, if you are in the ages between 21 and 24, you can rent cars in different places
managed by Thrifty, Enterprise, Advantage, Budget, Avis, Dollar, National and Hertz. However, they
still need to pay daily fees which vary on different locations. Luxury vehicles and SUVs are also
prohibited for this age bracket although some companies may reconsider to have these cars be rented
but with higher daily fees.
So, if you want to rent a car even though you rent a car under 25 years of age at car rental companies,

Zara Is A Modern Day Fashion Business Model
Zara is a modern day fashion business that takes an unconventional approach in their business model.
Zara is one of the largest international fashion companies which belongs to the distribution group
called inditex. They sell well made relatively cheap pieces of clothing that is always cut according to
the latest fashion designed. Their customers are the heart of their designs, productions, distribution
and sales. Just like all fashion companies, their primary goal is to be the number one fashion retailer.
To obtain that success, their new business model challenges the industry and pushes them ahead of
their competitors. Zara unique approach to fast fashion pays off as many other brands are trying to
follow their success. What sets Zara apart from other modern businesses is that, their business model
is to react to fashion trends as quickly as possible. Zara adapt quickly to current trends and fashion
that the public demand. Their goal is create fresh new trendy design almost every one to two weeks
that will be ready to be produced and shipped. Their primary goal in creating these new sketches is not

stocking their inventory very little and updating their collection often. This benefits them because it
makes the shopper feel like they have to buy the item, or else it would be sold out later on. Zara s risk

What Is Yossarian s Point Of View In Catch 22
The novel Catch 22 by Joseph Heller is about a man named Yossarian who during the second half of
World War II, is stationed with his Air Force squadron on the island of Pianosa, near the Italian coast
in the Mediterranean Sea. Yossarian and his friends endure a nightmarish, absurd existence defined by
bureaucracy and violence: they are inhuman resources in the eyes of their blindly ambitious superior
officers. The squadron is thrown thoughtlessly into brutal combat situations and bombing runs in
which it is more important for the squadron members to capture good aerial photographs of explosions
than to destroy their targets. Their colonels continually raise the number of missions that they are

First, Yossarian discovers that it is possible to be discharged from military service because of insanity.
Always looking for a way out, Yossarian claims that he is insane, only to find out that by claiming that
he is insane he has proved that he is obviously sane since any sane person would claim that he or she
is insane in order to avoid flying bombing missions. Elsewhere, Catch 22 is defined as a law that is
illegal to read. Ironically, the place where it is written that it is illegal is in Catch 22 itself. It is yet
again defined as the law that the enemy is allowed to do anything that one can t keep him from doing.
In short, then, Catch 22 is any paradoxical, circular reasoning that catches its victim in its illogic and
serves those who have made the law. Catch 22 can be found in the novel not only where it is explicitly
defined but also throughout the characters stories, which are full of catches and instances of circular
reasoning that trap unwitting bystanders in their snares for instance, the ability of the powerful officer
Milo Minderbinder to make great sums of money by trading among the companies that he himself

The Fall Of The Roman Republic
Tiberius and his brother Gaius were regarded in Roman tradition as the initiators of the revolution
which led to the breakdown of the Republic. (Roebuck, 1966:506) The fall of the Roman Republic
occurred during the late second century BC and resulted in various leading figures emerging such as
Tiberius Sempronius Gracchus. Tiberius Gracchus was largely responsible for creating and initiating a
long term political crisis in Rome in the early first century through his land reformations and desire to
aid the poor. However, his intentions led not only to political arguments but violence within Roman
society. This will be demonstrated through the analysis of ancient sources, discussion of the historical
context, Tiberius Gracchus motives, actions and contribution to the fall of the Roman Republic. Much
has been written about Tiberius in both modern and ancient sources, although some are divided on his
motives while others strive for his selflessness. Orosius, an ancient source concerning the Roman
Republic stated that Tiberius was angry with the nobility because of the Numantine Treaty, decided
that the land possessed hither to by private individuals, should be divided amongst the people, and this
caused him to reform against the Senate (Bishop, 1988). There are a trio of vital ancient sources
reliable on the breakdown of the Republic. Cicero, Appian and Plutarch. Cicero is one of the few that
actually lived during and participated in the events he comments on, so was

purpose of examining the service quality in Starbucks store in the area of Northwest Indiana, 10
different closed ended questions will be used. By doing this the respondents are going to have the
option of choosing from the given alternatives. By giving this kind of questionnaire the information
that is going to be gathered is easier to analyze, bearing in mind that specific answers are needed for
statistical research. The questions that are included are from various types such as: Dichotomous
questions (influencing audience to reply with specific answers like Yes/No, True/False or
Agree/Disagree responses). Example of questionnaire as follows: 1. Age Group amp; Occupation (
This will be the only open ended question on the survey) 2. How often do you visit Starbucks? ( Here

Ryuichi Tamura
The Second World War ended in a tragic defeat for the Axis Powers; Japan in particular suffered two
atomic bombs and two to three million casualties. Immediately after the war, destruction and despair
spread across the nation, and the citizens of Japan suffered depression and hopelessness. Ryuichi
Tamura (the last names comes first in Japanese, so his first name is Ryuichi), an editor and member of
a literary group named The Waste Land, wrote a poem called A Vertical Coffin in response to Japan s
civilization at the time. This eerie, dark poem seems to reflect the hopelessness of the country, and
escalate the depression within the nation. However, I interpreted it otherwise. Ryuichi Tamura cleverly
utilized literature, language, and culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In pre war Japanese culture, death was never seen as a terribly horrific event. Though it was still a sad
event, death was also thought to be respectful and honorable. It was believed that people who have
lived a full life and had fulfilled their purpose end their journey with death. Though the cause of death
could be feared, death itself was not scary; therefore, suicide was always an option. In ancient times,
respectful samurais were known to be prideful and courageous. They, however, would choose to slice
their own stomachs and commit suicide rather than be executed or killed. They believed that suicide
would act as a compensation for their incapability to survive and protect their pride and dignity. If
they cut themselves, they were thought to be brave and courageous. Even during the war, it was
thought to be an honorable act to crash land a plane onto enemy grounds, sacrificing himself to fight
against an enemy. The kamikaze flew to their deaths believing that their actions were courageous.
Death was not scary; Japanese people did not fear death (based on personal stories and experiences
with the Japanese). This, though it could be seen as admirable, was an issue of concern for Tamura.
After the war had ended, people of Japan resort to suicide without too much hesitation. To prevent
this, Tamura scolds them in his poem, explaining to them that they are not worthy of death and
attempts to discourage them from

Charlie as the Victim of Circumstance in F. Scott...
Charlie as the Victim of Circumstance in F. Scott Fitzgerald s Babylon Revisited The story s
protagonist, Charlie Wales, is less a victim of bad luck than of circumstance, both socio economic and
personal. Charlie does not deserve Marion s continued denial of custody of his daughter, but the story
is less about what Charlie does or does not deserve than how easily one s life can spin out of control
due to unforeseen circumstance. Marion and Charlie dislike each other on a visceral level. Marion s
feelings are not solely caused by Charlie s alcoholism and past behavior. She focuses upon Charlie a
hatred borne of her resentment of her family s financial situation, as evidenced by Lincoln s comment
to Charlie over lunch: I think ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
13 14) For her, Charlie was the embodiment of that villain. Though the argument that resulted in the
incident was the fault of both parties, Marion is unwilling or unable to consider Helen an equal party
to Charlie s excesses. Marion s hatred of Charlie makes it impossible for her to impartially judge his
attempts to rebuild his life. When she questions, How long are you going to stay sober, Charlie? (p.
12) at dinner the first evening of his return, her behavior is colored by her ill feelings toward her
brother in law, but her concern for his willingness to stay sober is valid and understandable given
Charlie s past behavior and her genuine concern for Honoria s best interests. His continued separation
from Honoria is wrenching, but Marion s resistance to relinquishing custody, though partially fuelled
by her hatred of Charlie, is also motivated by her fondness for her niece. Charlie s longing for a life
with Honoria is almost palpable throughout the story. Even though he seems drawn to visit his old
haunts, he resists any temptation to fall back into his old habits. He is imprudent to leave Lincoln s

Nonsense in Lewis Carroll s Poem Jabberwocky Essay
Nonsense in Lewis Carroll s Poem Jabberwocky
Roland Barthes Toys expresses the idea that French toys revolve around convention, preparing
children to be adults by allowing them to repeat normal adult activities without much imagination.
However, one only has to look in any modern toy store to see that today s American toys focus more
on imagination, not imitation. In contrast, however, children are usually taught language based on
convention; certain words have set meanings and certain sounds do not mean anything when put
together. Is this truly the case? Is language limited by convention and sense? Wendy Steiner writes
that language can be determined by both society and convention (The Colors of Rhetoric 93). Lewis ...

Many portmanteaus follow brillig, requiring a reader to use both context clues and imagination. The
nonsense words sound like many conventional words. For example, manxome is easily associated
with manly or maximum; the word feels strong and firm. The word slithy, on the other hand, sounds
like slithery and slimy. Onomatopoeia in the poem allow readers to get a sound of the action. For
example, the sword s blade goes snicker snack. This word helps the readers sense the sound of the
blade as it cuts through the monster s flesh. Though the poem may seem foreign at first, a reader
quickly makes sense of the situation and acquires an understanding of the poem s storyline.
The storyline and themes from Jabberwocky bring readers to a deeper understanding about the use of
sound and language. Corresponding with the scary, unfamiliar place introduced in the first stanza of
the poem, readers enter a foreign place of nonsense as they struggle with reading the first few words
of the poem. As the swordsman s teacher or father instructs him to beware of the beast in the second
stanza, readers are leery at this point to continue such a jumble of convention and nonsense found in
words like manxome and vorpal (118). As the swordsman divides the Jabberwock in two with his
sword in the fifth stanza, readers begin to divide the portmanteaus, such as chortled, into two root
words. Readers identify with the joy the

What Is The Theme Of Paul s Case By Willa Cather
From the time of the Industrial Revolution to now, people have been on the hunt for wealth. Those that
are poor wish for riches, those that are rich only want more. Willa Cather wrote Paul s Case back in
1905 with this same idea in mind. The question has been asked since even before then, does money
bring happiness? To those that have little would think that getting money will solve all their problems
but those with much can attest to having other types of problems money cannot fix. In Paul s Case ,
Willa Cather demonstrates that having monetary wealth does not always lead to a better life.
Paul s Case is about a young man that decides to steal money and run away from his unsophisticated
life to New York but trouble still follows him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

these legends of the iron kings that were told and retold on Sundays and holidays; these stories of
palaces in Venice, yachts on the Mediterranean, and high play at Monte Carlo . Pittsburgh throughout

York was seen as the place to be, where the rich went to get richer, which was one of the reasons Paul

My Relationship With Frankenstein
As a five year old, I could sense a supernatural creature always following me. A monster shadowed me
during the day and lurked under my bed at night. The monster howled at night, scaring me and ridding
me of sleep. Protection from the beast appeared in an unexpected form: my wall. The wall lent its
support, muting the monster s incessant screeches as I pressed my face against it. I was depended on
the wall to battle the monster a threat to my well being. Ultimately, my relationship with the wall was
my defense mechanism against the threats of the critter. By the time I was nine, the monster in my life
was no longer a figment of my imagination; it had transformed into an ailment. An unwavering, low
toned sound persisted in my ear. Tinnitus had consumed my ears and introduced me to the emergency

To ensure that these technologies are implemented and administered properly, it is essential that
policies be written and training provided for an effective security program. Here are the following
recommended technologies that Bank Solution s should incorporate into its security plan.
Vulnerability Scanning
Vulnerability Scanning is the art of using one computer to look for weaknesses in the security of
another computer (Houghton, 2003). Just like any other security tool or software available, there are
many forms of vulnerability scanning. Each of these methods provides a specific task to help an
organization determine the security of their networks. These forms of vulnerability scanning are
called:
External
Internal
Active
Passive
These forms of vulnerability scanning are then applied by two types of vulnerability scanners that scan
an organization s network, they are:
Network based
Host based
Finally, the most important thing to understand about vulnerability scanning is that it is a requirement
for Bank Solutions to conduct these scans to meet compliance with Federal regulations.
Costs
The costs for vulnerability scanners run from free to tens of thousands of dollars. It is up to the CISO
and the IT staff to assess what services they require and to choose a scanner that best fits their

Humorous Wedding Speech by the Best Man
When Daniel came to me and asked me to be his best man, it was a great honour but, when I looked at

Anyway, good evening Ladies and Gentlemen My name is Rob and it s my pleasure to be Daniel s
best man today.
So let me tell you about all those best man duties that originally concerned me, because I was

still find it bubbling away in Daniel s bedroom. I just hope he hasn t brought a barrel of it along today

Which reminds me, I was astonished to learn, that by tradition, I am supposed to bring a cheque book

Moral Dilemma When I entered freshman year at Sacred Heart Cathedral, I knew that I wanted to try
and experiment with things I had never done before. Something I had always had an interest in was
playing football. All the movies and stories portray football a great to build a brotherhood with your
teammates, and I liked that. The whole idea of playing as one team with a common goal to succeed
sounded great to me. In the past, I had played many other team sports like soccer, baseball, and
basketball, but I always had the idea that football was the ultimate team sport. You must rely on and
have complete trust in your ten other teammates who are out on the field with you. Football really
emphasizes the, There s no I in team saying. All these ideas made me want to start playing football
greatly, but there were some hesitations. Since the beginning of football, it has always been thought of
as a very dangerous sport with extreme risk of injury. This idea was constantly in the back of my
mind, that I could get hurt and be messed up for the rest of my life. I have heard numeros stories and
known people that have had serious injuries. Football helmets and pads are constantly being updated
to protect the players as much as possible. New rules about tackling and head on head contact have
been regularly implemented as well. Even with these means to protect players, with every play there is

Organic Solvents And Nonpolar Solvents
As mentioned in the discussion, olive oil, vegetable oil, crisco, and lard were soluble in nonpolar
solvents and insoluble in polar solvents. This is due to the chemical composition of polar and nonpolar
substances which results from the molecular shape as well as properties of dissolving solutes in
solution. Polar substances are hydrophilic and contain polar Van Der Waals interactions
(intermolecular forces) such as dipole dipole forces, ion dipole forces, and hydrogen bonding.
Nonpolar substances are hydrophobic and contain non polar Van Der Waals interactions. Like dissolve
like is the reason only polar solutes dissolve in polar solvents and why nonpolar solutes dissolve in
nonpolar solvents. Molecules with similar polarity have similar intermolecular forces and therefore,
can interact with each, or in this case dissolve9. Additionally, the solubility of a compound is
determined by the length of the hydrocarbon chain. Long hydrocarbon chains such as the one found in
oleic acid makes a compound more insoluble10. Therefore, since the lipids used in this experiment
were hydrophobic substances and each lipid has long hydrocarbon chains, the results were consistent
with the scientific literature and principles. Another factor affecting the solubility of the olive oil,
vegetable oil, crisco, and lard is the principle of hydrophobic interaction. Hydrophobic interaction
refers to when nonpolar solutes are in the presence of polar solvents, mainly water. When this
happens, the

The Down Information Processing Occurs
a) Top down information processing occurs when an individual uses previous knowledge, such as the
context of a situation, to recognize and identify patterns when making a decision. In this study, the top
down information that the researchers looked at was whether or not gender marked definite articles in
French would affect lexical activation during spoken word recognition. A critical display would
consist of four images, a target, cohort competitor, and two distractors. For example, using the
materials from Appendix A, a target word could be couronne crown in English, the cohort competitor
would be couteau knife in English, and the distractors would be chaussure shoe and lapin rabbit .
When the eye tracking is set ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using this model, it is expected that the participants would spend more time fixating on the images of
the dustpan and comb because of their phonetic similarities as they both begin with [pε ]. Then as the
word progresses, they will retrieve the target word, the dustpan, and fixate their eyes on the image.
The second goal of the first experiment was to see how the gendered articles would influence the
lexical activation during word recognition. In this trial, using phonologically distinct words, a critical
display could be composed of the target word le cerf volant (the kite), the paired distractor la
coccinelle (the ladybug), and two competitors le dauphin (the dolphin) and la tomate (the tomato).
Upon hearing the beginning of the utterance le , the participant is expected to fixate on both the
images of the target, the kite, and the masculine competitor, the dolphin. If the participant does indeed
do this, it shows that the matching gender marked articles are being accessed at the start of the
utterance and as more sound input is processed, the target word gets more activated, eventually
retrieving the correct word and fixating on the right image. c) Figure 5 illustrates the main results of
Experiment 2, displaying the probability of fixation over time in milliseconds for the target, cohort
competitor, and the average of the distractors. The trends in the

The Roman And Roman Rome
The Roman Catacombs
Rome today is a bustling and diverse city teeming with history and culture that dates back to
thousands of years. This rich cultural intertwine is evident with its seeming myriad of historical
monuments, relics, and construction that allude to various ancient cultures. Rome s ground level
environment is truly an architectural, cultural, and spiritual hearth for things of the past; however, this
area is truly only the tip of the iceberg . Underneath Rome s floors lies a seemingly unending expanse
of tunnels and chambers that makeup The Roman Catacombs. Inside the cavernous pathways of Rome
s catacombs is a plethora of religious and cultural history that provides historians today with an
unfathomable source of early Roman and Christian history. Regardless of discrepancies over its use
and origins, the Roman catacombs are indispensable for providing insight on the culture, beliefs, and
social location of early Christians. Due to the Roman Catacomb s ancient origins, there are several
discrepancies concerning aspects of the catacombs origin and use. However, there are several
elements of this architectural wonder that are generally accepted among scientists and archaeologists
today. The Roman Catacombs are generally accepted to have begun construction in the early third
century, and stopped use around the fifth century ( 339 Nature. com). These figures are attained

The Legality of Marijuana
As members of a sophisticated and modern society, to participate in the day to day social life there are
a few things we must act in accordance with. We must follow the natural laws that the societies have
placed in order, and must establish guidelines by understanding their moral and ethical obligations.
They are the foundations of our day to day life. Whether we choose to obey or disobey the norms and
regulations of our social environment is determined by the way we appeal to their distinct morals and
ethics.
There are many ethical situations in our society on which various people have various different

They require accurate measurements of utility. Utilitarianism has to make very strong claims on what
is right and wrong on a very vague concept such as happiness. Utilitarianism may find more use when

funding an organization may allocate to any given entity. When the utility is something more concrete
than mental and the idea of benefit is more relative. Utilitarianism would not work in a situation where
a hospital must choose between a child and a celebrity both on the waiting list for a lifesaving organ

The two very different philosophical views react differently to the subject of marijuana legalization.
Utilitarianism, for instance, would almost certainly legalize marijuana. This is a simple answer,
because the way that Utilitarianism is laid out, the end goal is the greatest aggregate happiness. In an
ideal Utilitarian world, there would be no laws, limits, or codes, save that everyone should be as happy
as they can be. This may seem too good to be true, as though it would go to far and society would not
be able to recover, but that is not the case. Things that are pleasurable in moderation are not always so
in excess. Some person with Mill s philosophy would only use marijuana if it brought them the
greatest happiness possible. It stands to reason, and indeed Mill elaborates

Lottery Narrative Story
The morning of April 1st was sunny and bright; the ground was moist and flowers of vibrant colors

When they reached the village center, they placed all their rocks in a neat pyramid next to the broken

in the lottery for over 65 years, yet had never won again since his son Alex won 25 years ago. After
his 14 year old son won, he realized the faults of the lottery and begged everyone to stop the tradition,
but nobody listened. Everyone called him insane for wanting to stop the lottery and claimed he was

The Laws Affects People s Everyday Life And A Business
The law affects people s everyday life and a business is not an exception. There are many definitions
of law, but nor one can be generally accepted, because with so many types of the law, these definitions
cannot cover every aspect of the law properly. Therefore, the law can be simply described as the
principles, rules and regulations, created by the state (the parliament) and established within a
community.
From the history, in the time of Henry II, the law was based only on the customs that were then
applied by all other judges all around the country, known as common law. Common law principles
created the basis for today s law and helps distinguish between the law created by previous decisions
and the law created by legislation. For instance, murder is a common law because it is not defined by
the Act of Parliament, unlike theft what is defined by Theft Act 1968. Martin(2010)
Since the Human Right Act 1998 section 2(1)(a) English law is determined by the European Union
and the judge must take into account human right cases of the European Court of Justice as well as the
English law cases. However, it is very different from the other countries law. In contrast, while
deciding a case in the UK, judge is bound to apply a judicial precedent of a higher court, based on the
previous cases judgements and principles known as ratio decidendi (the reason for deciding), rather
than being only guided by previous cases like other European Union countries. Based on

Metamorphosis Dilemma
Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis dramatises the concept of alienation and the conflict that arises
with his employer after Gregor s metamorphosis renders him unable to work. Gregor is the victim of a
dispassionate corporate structure, and is trapped in a job which engages only a minute portion of his
personality (Robertson, 57). However, despite his bodily transformation, Gregor remains emotionally
dependent on his role within the capitalist system, rather than recoiling in horror at the insect he has
become: What a fate, to be condemned to work for a firm where the smallest omission at once gave
rise to the gravest suspicion! Were all employees in a body nothing but scoundrels, was there not
among them one single loyal devoted man who...was so tormented by conscience...? (Kafka, 3)
Gregor s dilemma is that he serves the dual role as both a cog in a machine , and as his family s source
of income, and the despair and inconvenience of being trapped in his room heightens his vulnerability
as the chief clerk arrives to investigate the suspicous circumstance (Kafka, 3). Imprisoned by his job
and father s debts, Gregor is invalidated by the business that defines him and alienated by the insect
body that has consumed him. The constraints of Gregor s metamorphosis, as his little legs ...jiggled

A Lack of Meaningful General Education Courses
General Education (GE) is defined as that part of a curriculum that is shared by all students (regardless
their original major/profession), provides broad exposure to multiple disciplines, and forms the basis
for developing important intellectual and civil capabilities (Spencer Benson, 2009). With the rapid
development of society, the demand of multi disciplinarily personals is growing dramatically. In order
to broaden students knowledge and let them respond creatively and seize opportunities to cope with
the complexity, change and diversity, many universities among the world are pursuing high qualities
of general education. (University of Macau, n.d) In UM, every student needs to take 13 general
educational courses chosen from four areas, which are language and communication, science and
information technology, society and culture, self development. However, is general educational
succeeding in its goals in UM? Unfortunately, the answer is not. General education is not as effective
as we image in our university. One phenomenon we can observe is that there are some students who
are absent minded or sleepy in class. When asked about the important content in textbooks, many
students answers are far from satisfaction and they even complain that they gain almost nothing
meaningful in their general education courses. This discounted situation is a long standing problem
and it should be improved without doubt. You may ask that what the causes of this phenomenon

Analysis Of The Poem The Raven
The Raven versus Ode to a Nightingale The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe is a story of a young adult who
has lost the woman he was in love with and is struggling cope. The story teller compulsorily builds
self destructive understanding of his mourning in a raven s constant Nevermore reminder to him, until
he eventually gives up about being reconnected with Lenore in the new world. On the other hand,
John Keats Ode to a Nightingale is another interesting poem set in London, which tells the story of a
nightingale that undergoes pain and suffering caused by a loss of human life but remains alive. Like in
the Raven the latter the poem demonstrates clearly that pleasure is temporary and that human beings
are mortal (Fogle 81). In the literary piece, Keats envisages the shortcomings of the physical
environment and considers his own life gone when the nightingale song sets in. As such, the poet
contrasts between the eternal nightingale and temporal life of human beings in an immensely
imaginative way that integrates the primary factors affecting life including weather and natural
aesthetics such as flower. Weather rejuvenates the power of the nightingales as evidenced in their
covering of the heath. Like the Raven, however, Ode to a nightingale shares the theme of human
mortality, spirituality and kindness, and isolation among the bereaved.
Form
Poe s The Raven is made up of eighteen six line verses with seamlessly emphatic rhythm and rhymes.

Roosevelt, who promised a New Deal. After Roosevelt assumed the Presidency in 1933, Hoover
became a spokesman for opposition to the domestic and foreign policies of the New Deal. In 1947,
President Harry S. Truman appointed Hoover to head the Hoover Commission, intended to foster
greater efficiency throughout the federal bureaucracy. Most historians agree that Hoover s defeat in
the 1932 election was caused primarily by the downward economic spiral, although his strong support
for prohibition was also significant, but because of the Great Depression Hoover is ranked lower than
average among U.S.

Political And Economic Similarities And Differences Of The...
During the sixteenth century, both the Ottoman and Tokugawa Japanese empires had political and
economic similarities and differences. Politically, these empires were alike because both had
centralized bureaucracy but different because they had very distinct ways of keeping order within their
empires. Economically, they were similar because both depended on trade yet different because of
their willingness to trade. After close analysis the Tokugawa Japanese empire was more successful
economically.
Politically the Ottoman empire and Tokugawa Japanese empire were similar because each of them
established a central bureaucracy as the head of their government to help maintain a stable yet
effective way of running their empires. In the Ottoman empire, the supreme authority was the sultan
who controlled political and military operations. While the grand vizier, also known as the chief
minister carried the main burden of the state. As the empire started to expand, the status and prestige
of the sultan increased and a centralized administration system was adopted to help maintain order.
The sultan controlled his bureaucracy through an imperial council that met four days a week. The
grand vizier led the council meetings, for which the sultan sat behind a screen overhearing the
proceedings and then privately indicated his desires to the grand vizier. In summary in the Ottoman
the supreme authority was the sultan while the grand vizier carried out the desires of the sultan and

Book Review Of Maxwell Erake s The Fair Bwennivere
The novel is set in a version of Portsmouth, New Hampshire.[2] In the beginning of the book,
Maxwell Kane is a young boy with low self esteem. He lives with his grandfather, Grim, and
grandmother, Gram. Max thinks of himself as a butthead. People are afraid of him because he looks
like his father, Kenneth Killer Kane, a convicted murderer. Max sets the stage for the story by
reminiscing about his time in daycare, when he had met a boy named Kevin, or Freak, as their
classmates called him. Kevin has Morquio syndrome, wears leg braces and uses crutches, and thinks
of himself as a robot and is bullied by many bigger kids due to his short height. However, Max likes
Kevin and thinks the crutches and leg braces are neat. Many years later, when Max is in middle
school, he finds out that Freak and his mother, Gwen (referred to as The Fair Gwennivere ) are
moving into the house next door. When Max initially approaches Freak, Freak acts with hostility.
However, some time later, Max saves Kevin s toy ornithopter from a tree and they start to become
friends. On the Fourth of July, they go to see the fireworks show and are attacked by an older boy,
Tony Blade D. and his gang but avoid any mental or physical conflict. After the show, Blade chases
the two with his gang after Freak calls him a cretin. Despite Max s lack of knowledge and disability,
he escapes by acting on Freak s orders, but the two are driven into a muddy millpond, Freak riding on
Max s shoulders. Freak gets the

American Companies Are Good For Business
Introduction:
As our world becomes increasingly interconnected, American companies have been expanding their
businesses overseas, seeking new markets and new investment opportunities. These companies are
seeking countries with a high GDP, strategic location, and a growing urban middle class. GDP, or
gross domestic product, is the sum of value added by resident firms, households, and governments
operating in an economy (Peng, 2016, pg. 5). Since GDP is an important measure of economic
growth, nations with high GDP are seen as desirable markets in which to expand by companies
seeking to grow their business overseas. These companies are also seeking countries with an
accessible and advantageous location, as strategic location is imperative to facilitate ease in trading.
Countries with a convenient location relative to the United States are good for business because of the
low costs of transporting goods and because proximity between trade partners has the potential to
stimulate trade. Lastly, a growing urban middle class typically equates with a growing economy.
Historically, the middle class successfully amasses the most capital, be it physical (such as property)
or human (such as education). This accumulation of resources by the middle class then increases the
country s overall GDP (Pezzini, 2012, OECD). A large urban middle class is also indicative of a
politically stable country, since the majority of people have access to the goods and services they need
and are thus less

Informative Speech On Greek Culture
[4]Since most people believe that the dead would return to the earth on this night, they would light
bonfires and [5]they would wear costumes that were terrifying to the eye and would create a sense of
fear and disturbance. The reasons for these scary costumes were because people were afraid souls of
the dead would recognize the living and they were used as a disguise to ward off any spirits roaming.
Unlike the past, our present day version is somewhat different from the festival of Samhain (sow in).
Today, we celebrate by carving pumpkins into Jack o lanterns, buying costumes, having parties, trick
or treating and even pranking. Some people even decorated their front lawns with huge, inflatable
pumpkins or spiders.
It seems like the both are kind of celebrated the same, and there are similarities but there are also

costumes and they were both celebrated in the fall. The differences, however, outnumber the
similarities. Costumes had change from a disguise that was terrifying to the eye and fearful to
costumes made in a factory somewhere that is sometimes at an outrageous price. Girls costumes have
changed the most, they used to cover your whole body to something skimpy and ridiculous. For

The Seven Aspects Of The Government In Ancient Egypt As A...
Ancient Egypt was a civilization because they have some of the seven indicators of civilization.
In Ancient Egypt there was government because the Pharaoh was the supreme leader over everybody
so, then he was the most powerful person in Egypt. Egypt was too big for one Pharaoh so he couldn t
run the government all by himself so then he had had a hierarchy of rulers and leaders, and they would
run different aspects of the government. The government had laws because of the common sense of
right and wrong so then the people that had broken the laws would be punished. If you didn t break the
laws than you wouldn t get punished because you hadn t broken the rules in the government. The laws
would apply to everyone no matter of the amount of power that person had. If the person had broken
the laws then normally the family would suffer too, the children would automatically be outlawed
with the person. The Pharaoh represented the gods on earth and performed rituals and helped build
temples.
In Ancient Egypt there was religion because the people had based their religion on the gods and
goddesses. They thought that they were being controlled by the gods and goddesses, and Upper and
Lower Egypt had their own religions. The Egyptians thought that the world was made of clay and was
all flat. The people had thought that the gods and goddesses were controlled by the Sun God, and they
also thought that the Pharaoh was a god or goddess as well as their ruler. The people had

  • 2. Eros And Thanatos Analysis Eros represents the combination of all human tendencies within us that are directed towards the will to live in the way that we desire while Thanatos represents the inevitable impulse towards death, which are the driving forces in human existence. In the beginning of the book, Edna is not aware of her subconscious, and she is complacent in her marriage to Leonce. Because it is ingrained in society that her duties in life are to serve and comply to Leonce s needs she has not the time to feel her own feelings or understand what she longs for in life. Their really is no time of self reflection. It is only after Edna has her first swim on page 27 when she starts to connect with her soul. But that night she was like the little tottering, stumbling, clutching child, who of a sudden realizes its powers, and walks for the first time alone, boldly and with over confidence (Chopin) It is in this moment, A feeling of exultation overtook her, as if some power of significant import had been given her soul (Chopin 27). We see her eros drive spark sensual feelings with Robert after the sea is involved. In chapter 24, Robert asks Edna to come into the water and Edna knowing she should decline, allowed her impulse, eros, to take control of her. The sea brought out her subconscious. It is after swimming that she becomes attracted to Robert, but I would argue that she has subconsciously had this lust and coming in contact with eros drew it out. It is also through eros that brings out her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wireless Technologies Wireless Technologies Introduction As wireless technology has begun to mature, the demand for wireless products has increased as new applications for the technology are realized. One application for wireless technology at the U.S. Naval Academy is to use the wireless capability to enhance classroom instruction. Currently the Electrical Engineering and Physics Departments have wireless access points and wireless laptops/desktops available for classroom instruction. The purpose of this report is to provide the technical research necessary to aid decision makers in determining which wireless technologies the Naval Academy should invest. Background In a wireless network, computers communicate with the network through a radio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each access point can practically service between 32 to 64 users, depending upon manufacturer. The bandwidth will be shared by all users. The number of radio channels associated with each technology will vary by technology and product manufacturer. Multiple channels allows for multiple access points to be collocated in order to provide access for a larger number of users. Current USNA Uses The Electrical Engineering Department currently uses the Dell suite with a wireless access point and 24 wireless laptops. They use the wireless network for in class projects where the use of either simulation (OPNET) or design software (PSPICE) is being taught and used. The Physics department is using a LinkSys 802.11b wireless access point and LinkSys wireless NIC cards with desktop computers. Their primary use is for internet access. Recommendation The best technology system for the Naval Academy would be the 802.11a standard. It has 54 Mbps throughput capability as well as adequate range, sufficient for classroom use. Since the 54 Mbps is shared amongst all users, it would allow, at a minimum, 2 Mbps for each user in a class of 20 midshipmen operating simultaneously. It also has higher data rates at comparable distances ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mirror displays tremendous insight and objectivity into the natural human behavior of growing older. Plath is able to emphasize the loneliness, hope, despair, and insecurity that awaits us through mankind s incessant addiction with reflection. Mirror expresses the problems associated with aging through terse comparisons between reality and desire. Plathe s strength of Mirror lies in its ability to establish a solid comparison among appearance and human emotions between the first and second stanzas. At first Mirror introduces reflection as a precise and accurate force through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also a very objective telling of both the aging and reflection process in that faces and darkness separate us over and over stemming from the people who come and go in front of this mirror. Who are almost getting in the way so to speak of its life and it can be assumed they already know the range of emotions they are receiving when they look into this mirror. Plathe s second stanza is clearly engineered to reveal the darker aspects of reflection. In the second paragraph the perspective changes from a mirror to that of a lake. In doing so does the shift in message for it marks the change in reflection from exact to distorted. She is also able to clearly show this by utilizing a simple reflection of a woman: A woman bends over me searching my reaches for what she really is. Then she turns to those liars, the candles or the moon. I see her back and reflect it faithfully. She rewards me with tears and an agitation of hands. (Plathe lines 10 14) This example infers that the woman was firmly searching for a specific reflection and that displays insecurity and longing for something that might have passed due to age. This is especially true when taking into account the candles or the moon which are symbols of romance thus leading towards the suspicion that she was with or searching for somebody. The ... As the largest overall and per capita energy consumer in the world, the U.S. needs to decide upon a reasonable source of energy for the foreseeable future, especially since its energy needs will increase dramatically during that time. With political instability likely to remain the norm in the Middle East, oil continues to be an energy source of questionable reliability; in addition, current estimates of worldwide reserves suggest we may in fact run out of oil entirely in the next fifty years. The origins of nuclear power, in fact, should be enough to give one pause; fission reactions (albeit uncontrolled ones) were originally intended to be used as weapons: the weapon, of course, being the atomic bomb. The nuclear program began in earnest when Einstein himself, afraid that Hitler had a team working on such a weapon, wrote to President Roosevelt to inform him that such a weapon might be possible to build (Shrader Frechette 7). The development of the A bomb by the Manhattan Project, its use in Japan and the effect on World War II are all well documented. (After the initial test at Alamagordo, New Mexico, one of the bomb s major developers, J. Robert Oppenheimer, was rumored to whisper: I am become death, the destroyer of worlds, when he saw the level of destruction his new creation had achieved.) Less well known are the recommendations made by a panel of Manhattan Project scientists about the post war uses of nuclear energy. The panel s report concluded, The development of fission piles solely for the production of power for ordinary commercial use does not appear economically sound nor advisable from the point of view of preserving natural resources ; in other words, the first panel of experts on commercial nuclear energy and its resources felt uranium was too expensive to waste on ... (Roebuck, 1966:506) The fall of the Roman Republic occurred during the late second century BC and resulted in various leading figures emerging such as Tiberius Sempronius Gracchus. Tiberius Gracchus was largely responsible for creating and initiating a long term political crisis in Rome in the early first century through his land reformations and desire to aid the poor. However, his intentions led not only to political arguments but violence within Roman society. This will be demonstrated through the analysis of ancient sources, discussion of the historical context, Tiberius Gracchus motives, actions and contribution to the fall of the Roman Republic. Much has been written about Tiberius in both modern and ancient sources, although some are divided on his motives while others strive for his selflessness. Orosius, an ancient source concerning the Roman Republic stated that Tiberius was angry with the nobility because of the Numantine Treaty, decided that the land possessed hither to by private individuals, should be divided amongst the people, and this caused him to reform against the Senate (Bishop, 1988). Though it was still a sad event, death was also thought to be respectful and honorable. It was believed that people who have lived a full life and had fulfilled their purpose end their journey with death. Though the cause of death could be feared, death itself was not scary; therefore, suicide was always an option. In ancient times, respectful samurais were known to be prideful and courageous. They, however, would choose to slice their own stomachs and commit suicide rather than be executed or killed. They believed that suicide would act as a compensation for their incapability to survive and protect their pride and dignity. If they cut themselves, they were thought to be brave and courageous. Even during the war, it was thought to be an honorable act to crash land a plane onto enemy grounds, sacrificing himself to fight against an enemy. The kamikaze flew to their deaths believing that their actions were courageous. Death was not scary; Japanese people did not fear death (based on personal stories and experiences with the Japanese). This, though it could be seen as admirable, was an issue of concern for Tamura. After the war had ended, people of Japan resort to suicide without too much hesitation. To prevent this, Tamura scolds them in his poem, explaining to them that they are not worthy of death and attempts to discourage them from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Charlie s longing for a life with Honoria is almost palpable throughout the story. Even though he seems drawn to visit his old haunts, he resists any temptation to fall back into his old habits. He is imprudent to leave Lincoln s address with Alix, the barman at the Ritz, to give to Duncan Schaeffer, but Duncan is a friend from college and the urge to see someone familiar is perhaps understandable given Charlie s loneliness. • 27. Organic Solvents And Nonpolar Solvents As mentioned in the discussion, olive oil, vegetable oil, crisco, and lard were soluble in nonpolar solvents and insoluble in polar solvents. This is due to the chemical composition of polar and nonpolar substances which results from the molecular shape as well as properties of dissolving solutes in solution. Polar substances are hydrophilic and contain polar Van Der Waals interactions (intermolecular forces) such as dipole dipole forces, ion dipole forces, and hydrogen bonding. Nonpolar substances are hydrophobic and contain non polar Van Der Waals interactions. Like dissolve like is the reason only polar solutes dissolve in polar solvents and why nonpolar solutes dissolve in nonpolar solvents. Molecules with similar polarity have similar intermolecular forces and therefore, can interact with each, or in this case dissolve9. Additionally, the solubility of a compound is determined by the length of the hydrocarbon chain. Long hydrocarbon chains such as the one found in oleic acid makes a compound more insoluble10. Therefore, since the lipids used in this experiment were hydrophobic substances and each lipid has long hydrocarbon chains, the results were consistent with the scientific literature and principles. Another factor affecting the solubility of the olive oil, vegetable oil, crisco, and lard is the principle of hydrophobic interaction. Hydrophobic interaction refers to when nonpolar solutes are in the presence of polar solvents, mainly water. When this happens, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. The Down Information Processing Occurs a) Top down information processing occurs when an individual uses previous knowledge, such as the context of a situation, to recognize and identify patterns when making a decision. In this study, the top down information that the researchers looked at was whether or not gender marked definite articles in French would affect lexical activation during spoken word recognition. A critical display would consist of four images, a target, cohort competitor, and two distractors. For example, using the materials from Appendix A, a target word could be couronne crown in English, the cohort competitor would be couteau knife in English, and the distractors would be chaussure shoe and lapin rabbit . Using this model, it is expected that the participants would spend more time fixating on the images of the dustpan and comb because of their phonetic similarities as they both begin with [pε ]. Then as the word progresses, they will retrieve the target word, the dustpan, and fixate their eyes on the image. The second goal of the first experiment was to see how the gendered articles would influence the lexical activation during word recognition. In this trial, using phonologically distinct words, a critical display could be composed of the target word le cerf volant (the kite), the paired distractor la coccinelle (the ladybug), and two competitors le dauphin (the dolphin) and la tomate (the tomato). Upon hearing the beginning of the utterance le , the participant is expected to fixate on both the images of the target, the kite, and the masculine competitor, the dolphin. If the participant does indeed do this, it shows that the matching gender marked articles are being accessed at the start of the utterance and as more sound input is processed, the target word gets more activated, eventually retrieving the correct word and fixating on the right image. c) Figure 5 illustrates the main results of Experiment 2, displaying the probability of fixation over time in milliseconds for the target, cohort competitor, and the average of the distractors. The olive green trees were swaying in a gentle breeze and the river by the village was teeming with fish. A rainbow glowed against the blue sky, catching every villagers attention. The villagers of Shiveria had begun to assemble at the center of the village where the annual lottery was being held. Because of the town s small population of 400 people, the lottery would probably take less than 3 hours. The children ran from their homes, as they had the day off from school because of the lottery. He had participated in the lottery for over 65 years, yet had never won again since his son Alex won 25 years ago. After his 14 year old son won, he realized the faults of the lottery and begged everyone to stop the tradition, but nobody listened. There are many definitions of law, but nor one can be generally accepted, because with so many types of the law, these definitions cannot cover every aspect of the law properly. Therefore, the law can be simply described as the principles, rules and regulations, created by the state (the parliament) and established within a community. From the history, in the time of Henry II, the law was based only on the customs that were then applied by all other judges all around the country, known as common law. Common law principles created the basis for today s law and helps distinguish between the law created by previous decisions and the law created by legislation. For instance, murder is a common law because it is not defined by the Act of Parliament, unlike theft what is defined by Theft Act 1968. Martin(2010) Since the Human Right Act 1998 section 2(1)(a) English law is determined by the European Union and the judge must take into account human right cases of the European Court of Justice as well as the English law cases. However, it is very different from the other countries law. In contrast, while deciding a case in the UK, judge is bound to apply a judicial precedent of a higher court, based on the previous cases judgements and principles known as ratio decidendi (the reason for deciding), rather than being only guided by previous cases like other European Union countries. Metamorphosis Dilemma Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis dramatises the concept of alienation and the conflict that arises with his employer after Gregor s metamorphosis renders him unable to work. Gregor is the victim of a dispassionate corporate structure, and is trapped in a job which engages only a minute portion of his personality (Robertson, 57). However, despite his bodily transformation, Gregor remains emotionally dependent on his role within the capitalist system, rather than recoiling in horror at the insect he has become: What a fate, to be condemned to work for a firm where the smallest omission at once gave rise to the gravest suspicion! Were all employees in a body nothing but scoundrels, was there not among them one single loyal devoted man who...was so tormented by conscience...? Analysis Of The Poem The Raven The Raven versus Ode to a Nightingale The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe is a story of a young adult who has lost the woman he was in love with and is struggling cope. The story teller compulsorily builds self destructive understanding of his mourning in a raven s constant Nevermore reminder to him, until he eventually gives up about being reconnected with Lenore in the new world. On the other hand, John Keats Ode to a Nightingale is another interesting poem set in London, which tells the story of a nightingale that undergoes pain and suffering caused by a loss of human life but remains alive. Like in the Raven the latter the poem demonstrates clearly that pleasure is temporary and that human beings are mortal (Fogle 81). In the literary piece, Keats envisages the shortcomings of the physical environment and considers his own life gone when the nightingale song sets in. As such, the poet contrasts between the eternal nightingale and temporal life of human beings in an immensely imaginative way that integrates the primary factors affecting life including weather and natural aesthetics such as flower. Weather rejuvenates the power of the nightingales as evidenced in their covering of the heath. Like the Raven, however, Ode to a nightingale shares the theme of human mortality, spirituality and kindness, and isolation among the bereaved. • 43. American Companies Are Good For Business Introduction: As our world becomes increasingly interconnected, American companies have been expanding their businesses overseas, seeking new markets and new investment opportunities. These companies are seeking countries with a high GDP, strategic location, and a growing urban middle class. GDP, or gross domestic product, is the sum of value added by resident firms, households, and governments operating in an economy (Peng, 2016, pg. 5). Since GDP is an important measure of economic growth, nations with high GDP are seen as desirable markets in which to expand by companies seeking to grow their business overseas. These companies are also seeking countries with an accessible and advantageous location, as strategic location is imperative to facilitate ease in trading. Countries with a convenient location relative to the United States are good for business because of the low costs of transporting goods and because proximity between trade partners has the potential to stimulate trade. Lastly, a growing urban middle class typically equates with a growing economy. Historically, the middle class successfully amasses the most capital, be it physical (such as property) or human (such as education). This accumulation of resources by the middle class then increases the country s overall GDP (Pezzini, 2012, OECD). A large urban middle class is also indicative of a politically stable country, since the majority of people have access to the goods and services they need and are thus less ...
