7. Importance Of Subpixel Significance Of Image Correlance
Subpixel correlation of optical imagery is also based on normalized cross correlation. However, COSI
CORR applies correlation in both spatial and frequencies domain (Yaseen Anwar, 2013). This allows a
spatial correlation that gives the 2 D displacement. Figure 4.9 and 4.8 shows the spatial displacement.
The black box shows landslide area. These two bands combined gives a vector field (figure 4.11). This
vector field shows the direction of landslide. To achieve a good correlation is needed. Correlation of
image needs several careful decision making. Different parameters can change the image correlation
quality. In figure 4.9 shows the quality of the image correlation. Here, the result of correlation is not
great but it is usable as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A careful look at this gives a view of other landslide area within the image. The figure 4.12 gives us
the holistic view of the target landslide. It is a north west facing landslide. This matches the aspect
map that shows the landslide location to be on the north facing slope (figure 2.1). The displacement
measured from SAR analysis to be 193m (after dividing with the step size 3) and from the optical
subpixel correlation, the displacement is calculated to be 148m (after dividing with the step size 4).
The displacement is measured as the length of the landslide. The list of limitations faced in this study
is quite large. From data acquisition to analysis, several constraints has been met during this study.
First, the SAR image that is freely available that gives the temporal coverage of the landslide in
question is Sentinel 1A. This satellite instrument captures SAR image using C band which uses 5 7 cm
wavelength and 5.35 GHz frequency (Alsdorf et al., 2007; Potin, 2013). This c band cannot pierce the
vegetation canopy to reach ground (Moran et al., 1998). This lead to some decorrelation in the image
as the study area is a highly vegetated area. One Previous study used corner reflector for better result
while measuring slow onset landslide movement (Sun Muller, 2016). Nonetheless, in this study, no
corner reflectors were used, as the landslide was rapid onset and there were no previously CRs
installed in that area.

9. Lumbar Vertebral Column, An Amazing Part Of The Human Body
Lumbar Vertebral Fracture
The Vertebral column is an amazing part of the human body. It is made up of many different pieces
that all fit together to make something that keeps the body up right, allows movement, supports weight
and protects the spinal cord. There are four different segments of the spinal cord. One of those
segments is called the lumbar region. The lumbar region consists of 5 vertebrae that make up the
lower back (Lippert, 2011). The lumbar region supports most of the body weight and allows
movement. People often do not realize how important the vertebral column is until it is already
injured. Injury to the lumbar region can be caused from a vertebral fracture and can be very painful to
ones lower back.
Etiology
Lumbar Vertebral Fractures, also known as a compression fractures are caused from a variety of
reasons. Some of the causes can be from high impact trauma or diseases. Some vertebral fractures are
causes by high impact trauma occurring in motor vehicle accidents, long distance falls and sports
injuries. The diseases that can cause compression fractures are osteoporosis and spinal tumors.
Compression fractures can occur from bone insufficiency as well as falls, lifting and trunk motions,
such as flexion, extension, lateral bending and rotation (American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons
[AAOS], 2015). Osteoporosis is the main cause of compression fractures. Depending on the severity
of the fracture signs and symptoms include severe lower back pain,

The tripling used suggests the lexis is one of confusion and passion; Sent us out with milk cans, pea
tins, jam pots . Likewise to Blackberry Picking, Death of A Naturalist also has a fairly simple
structure. In the first section, Heaney describes how the frogs would spawn in the lint hole, with a
digression into him collecting the spawn, and how his teacher encouraged his childish interest in the
process. The poem s title is amusingly ironic by a naturalist , we would normally mean someone with
expert scientific knowledge of living things and ecology. The young Heaney certainly was beginning
to know nature from direct observation but this incident cut short the possible scientific career before
it had ever begun. Also by death of a naturalist he does not wish to be a part of this life. The poet notes
the festering in the flax dam, but can cope with this familiar lexis of things rotting and spawn
hatching. Perhaps, as an inquisitive child he felt some pride in not being squeamish he thinks of the

childhood for granted. He has an almost scientific interest in knowing the proper names bullfrog and

The title of this novel, Like Water for Chocolate, is also a simile for the burning passion Tita and
Pedro had for each other. In Latin countries, like water for chocolate mean to boil water to the right

Despite their true love for each other, Tita and Pedro had to restrain their feelings under the eyes of
society. Their love is like the boiling point of water.
As the famous endorser for magical realism, Like Water for Chocolate is filled with mystical elements
camouflaged into the mundane setting. Magical realism has brought this forbidden love to its greatest

meeting Satan, the spawn of all rebellion, in the forest. Brown tries to fight the evil inside of him to
tell the devil he must go back to his faith, and the devil convinces him that they will walk the crooked

devil by their side. The path that Brown is on causes him to gamble with his soul under the
promptings of the devil, and he knows he must choose to either roll the dice or turn around and go

INTRO/THESIS
The Ramayana is an excellent example of Joseph Campbell s monomyth, who expresses that it marks
the physical, mental, and spiritual changes that young women and men undergo as they grow and
develop to fill a variety of roles in society (Whomsley 186) based on cultural dogmas. During this
journey of maturation, an in individual must act in accordance with dharma to attain enlightenment.
Dharma is the glue, which upholds the universe and humanity. Every individual has a sense of duty
and destiny established from his or her responsibility to achieve his or her role in society. Dharma
encompasses all actions, thoughts, and speech in keeping with living a virtuous life (India: The
Ramayana 242). Acting contrary to your predestined role in society impairs not only the individual s
ability to obtain dharma but that of humanities as well.
The hero of the epic in this monomyth is Rama, who understands the sacrifices he must make in order
to succeed in being a faithful and dutiful son, loving husband, and caring brother, while also being a
stern leader and powerful warrior. Rama s ability to comprehend his conscious devotion to the beliefs
of his culture based on the idea of dharma, results in his own enlightenment, symbolizing the ideas
and values of his culture. The monomyth consist of three major phases: the departure, initiation and
return. In addition, it includes numerous steps however, I will be examining

This week s readings followed the perspectives of the United States and Cuba through multiple
transitions of power throughout the mid 20th century and late 21st century. U.S. policies implemented
by the various presidents over this sixty year span were unable to solve previous hegemonic and
interventionist ideologies. On the other hand, Cuba pre and post Cold War was a growing power that
gave voice and representation to nations who had been previously colonized and dominated by bigger
superpowers. Cuba wanted to end ties with the United States, a nation who had been instrumental in
preventing their goals and fight for their struggles. Fidel Castro represented the legitimacy of Cuban

Cuba no longer had the Soviets support, which had previously been an instrumental part of their
resilience throughout the war. Yet, the United States refused to normalize relations or make amends
with the vulnerable country. Author Jorge I. DomÃnguez noted, Cuba repatriated its troops, stopped its
military assistance to insurgencies, and began to conform to a world market economy (pg. 4). Post
Cold War, the United States should have extended its reprieve and apologized for its years of
wrongdoings. Cuba had proven itself as a powerful force, a struggle that they had long undergone for
decades, despite great odds. Instead, the United States devised the Helms Burton Act, a policy that
endured U.S. embargo against Cuba one of many modern lineal descendants of the Monroe Doctrine

their same mistakes that put the two nations in such a place. To prove this point again, President
Clinton was even considering military intervention in Cuba before agreeing upon the implementation

Moving to America was the biggest change in my life. Before, I know very little of this world and my

background because of the lack of diversity while living in the camp. But moving to America I was

Before I moved to America I lived in a Thailand refugee camp called Mae La. Growing up in Mae La
camp there was not a lot of diversity since most people who live there were Karen people. All my
neighbor were Karen, therefore I was not close to people of different background or people with
different ethnicity. I could not open up to them easily since I only speak Karen language. I was more
comfortable with the Karen people too since I know mostly Karen people and my school was full of
Karen kids. I went to a mission school in Mae la and the school in Mae La refugee camp was not well
made like the one in US, it was made of bamboo and there was no floor. Mae La also have a poor
education system so many Karen student including myself did not get a full advance education like the

20. The Themes Of Popular Culture
Why Themes in Popular Culture are Important to Study
The study of popular culture is useful in many ways. To be more specific, this course has reached its
three intended main ideas: what it means to be American, how to be more consumption conscious, and
how to apply these studies in our own lives. Jim Cullen puts this in a less specific sense, arguing that
the study of popular culture can afford valuable clues about collective fears, hopes, and debates
(Cullen, The Art of Democracy, 2). We use these clues to understand the world around us, as well as
why we do what we do as Americans and as humans. I will be touching on themes that relate to this
quotation by Cullen, escapism, exploitation, and globalization, as well as how these themes relate to
the course goals.
For most of the twentieth century, [popular culture] has been denigrated by intellectuals of all
ideological stripes as either meaningless escapism or a dangerous narcotic (Cullen 2). Popular culture
is a form of escapism; however, I would argue against those intellectuals calling it meaningless,
because, as we have also learned from Cullen, the elites will reject new forms of popular culture.
Returning to escapism, an example we have seen is in comic books. Adolescent boys would turn to
comics as a source of escapism. For example, lower class second generation Jewish immigrants,
searching for their place to fit in society, created Superman. Their comics appealed to young boys, in a
post Depression era, with

property among the two social classes: bourgeoisie and proletariat. The bourgeoisie views private
property as a mere money relation in which wage labor creates capital, not property. Marx s is not
concerned with the private property of personal belongings, but instead wants to abolish the private
property of the bourgeoisie in which they use the proletariats in means of production to produce

22. The Life Of Ancient Egyptian Religion
The concept of the eternal life in traditional Egypt is associated with the sun that always rose up to
give renewal and vigor on a daily basis. Ancient Egyptians considered the afterlife as an ideal
dimension in its peace, delight, and bliss. There were no hardships, rivalry or any negative emotions in
the spiritual realm. The dimension was referred to commonly as the Field of Offerings or the Field of
Rushes. The heavenly place was complete with its own version of the river Nile and was composed of
two fields. The Egyptians society saw it possible to attain the peace given in the afterlife if they led an
earthly religious life. The next life was eternal in nature. Ancient Egyptians employed two religious
criteria to structure their belief in the afterlife. The beliefs were centered on godly myths and the
spiritual connection between the body and the soul. One of the major elements in traditional Egyptian
religion was their worship and belief in a variety of gods and goddesses. Each of the deities had their
particular power, relevance and function in the ancient religion. The spirit world was associated with
the god Ra, who was the deity with the duty of ruling the dimension. According to McKay, Ra was
responsible for choosing individuals who were eligible for traveling in his boat across the spirit river
Nile into the land of the two fields . According to the religion, only Pharaohs had automatic passage to
Ra s boat ride into the land of the two fields. God Osiris, one

Significance of the October Crisis
From the overthrowing of the Russian Tsar to the exile of the Nationalists, the world has been in a
state where radical movements have been the main focus of citizens, even in democratic societies. The
October Crisis was one of these extraordinary events that had occurred. It was a period of international
and national revolutionary movements that used violent acts against constitutional measures. The 1970
October Crisis was a pivotal moment that had an undeniable and lasting impact on Canadians as it

For some time, many Quebecois had faith in the FLQ, believing the group would speed the process of
separation from Canada; however the FLQ s loyalty to these beliefs is questionable. Ultimately, it was
perceived that the FLQ s only goal was to give Quebec its justice; they wanted to see them united in a
free society. On the other hand, during the October Crisis, they had not been able to prove that. When
the FLQ kidnapped British diplomat James Cross, it publicized 7 demands, of which only one
concerned French Canadians, pertaining to fairer working conditions which was later dropped (Tetley,
2007). The rest concerned the FLQ themselves: publication of the Manifesto (a public declaration of
policy and aims), the name of an informer, $500,000 in gold, the release of 23 jailed terrorists, and to
transport them to either Algeria or Cuba (Knowlton, 1990). A goal of Quebec s at the time, the
protection of the French language, was a cause that preoccupied much of the nation, but was not a
particular concern for the FLQ. In fact, the 1970 Manifesto was written in and proclaimed in informal
French and Fringlish (Knowlton, 1990). The FLQ s dedication to their cause is doubtful. FLQ
believed that they weren t going to get caught, hence their slogan Independence or death (Brown,

when Athenian troops first invaded the tiny, neutral island of Melos during the prolonged

Euripides, the third of the Greek tragic poets, developed The Trojan Women months after the deadly

Euripides intentionally employs graphic imagery to convey the inhumanity of war and thus evoke a
wide range of emotion from his audience. Near the beginning of the play, Poseidon observes that
blood drips down from the gods shrines as he passes through the devastated city where Troy once
proudly stood (Euripides 31). Evidently, the Greek soldiers had exercised such depravity during battle
that they had resorted to slaughtering and raping innocent civilians in consecrated temples. This
despicable act surely would have upset Euripides largely religious audience, who would not have
condoned such immorality, regardless of the circumstances. Euripides uses this same literary device to
evoke pathos when he describes the death of Astyanax. When Andromache is first informed of her

With all the evidence against him, his only appeal was to continually try to convince the jury that he
was in the hands of his leaders. He pleaded that because he was not an actual leader in the movement
he was not guilty. His active part in the final solution backfired on this claim. When Eichmann was
questioned about his feelings toward the allegations made against him during the trial, he explained
the difference in his mind between his legal guilt and his ethical guilt. Eichmann said I bear no
political responsibility and therefore I am not legally guilty. Though Eichmann was responsible for the
mass deportations, the fault of the whole Holocaust was not all on him. To some extent, Eichmann was
just following the orders of men as worse as him.Eichmann uses this idea in his defence. He testified
that he was just working under Heinrich Himmler and Mueller, two of his superiors. He explained
how he had to follow the orders he was given and that the punishment for disobedience was death. In
fact, Eichmann said in one of the trial transcripts, [11] I was merely a tool in the hands of a stronger

imperialism is not a good thing because it is well known throughout history and even today, that
stronger nations have taken advantage of weaker ones for their own benefit and not the greater good.
When it comes to figuring out whether or not imperialism did more harm than good I would agree

nations. Furthermore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The popularity of school uniforms is on the rise. As a student, it is a bit bizarre to say that switching to
uniforms may not be an awful idea after all, however this may just be the truth. Although, I have never

them about the way they look and dress. This hurts my heart to think that people could be so hurtful to

To begin with, it is very important that we acknowledge that education exists not only as an academic,
but also as a social and socializing experience for children (Massoia). School uniforms can be very
beneficial in this area considering they provide a sense of unity between the students, resulting in a

1. Literature Review
For the purpose of this review, the following section has been broken down into the following three
areas:
1.1 What are the origins of impression management?
1.2 How is impression management applied in corporate reporting?
1.3 Why is impression management used as a means of corporate communication?
Each area will look to assimilate the key items of literature from relevant and appropriate sources
surrounding the fundamental theories and practices of impression management. In doing so, this
review will form the required basis to critically evaluate both the use of impression management in the
context of the 2016 EU Referendum as well as the overall ethicality of the practice.
1.1 What are the origins of impression ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of the taxonomies and methodologies reviewed, four key perspectives on impression management
stand out: Economic, Psychological, Sociological and Critical. Combined, these perspectives of
impression management have defined the majority of academic research undertaken by scholars and
organisations alike (Brennan, Vourvachis, Merkl Davies, 2013). In doing so, they have aligned several
other noteworthy concepts which underpin impression management including legitimacy, signalling,
agency, institutional and stakeholder theories.
Conclusively, it is clear that impression management in practice allows for many opportunities of
manipulation not so dissimilar to Goffman s actor vs. audience analogy. And while this manipulation
itself could be seen to some as encouraging acts of sophism, to others it provides a useful
methodology of communicating potentially sensitive items to audiences of an increasingly volatility .
1.2 How is impression management applied in corporate reporting?

applied as a tool which aids in the manipulation and interpretation of all the data types contained
within the communicative medium of a corporate report. Furthermore, we can deduce

37. How Of A Lab Report
How to Write a Lab Report
The purpose of a lab report is to describe your lab experiment in such detail (including what was used,
when it took place, who was present, how the lab went, what happened, what results were found, and
the overall discussions and conclusions) that your described experiment or lab could be replicated by
someone of similar education and training who was not present. A lab report should be written as a
description of what you did, not instructions for doing the lab. Another goal (especially at this level) is
to thoroughly explain what you did and what you learned.
When writing a lab report, do not use personal pronouns such as we or I , and so on. For example,
write, The egg was placed in a container rather than I placed the egg in a container . The report should
be written in past tense. Your paragraphs should be one and a half spaced. Choose a professional font
and use a font size of 10, 11, or 12. ALL WRITING MUST BE YOUR OWN WORDS even if you
were working with other people!
A lab report contains the following components:
Title
The title should be concise (try for less than ten words) and should reflect the factual content or
purpose of the lab / paper. A good title is straightforward and uses keywords that researchers in a
particular field will recognize (such as pH Lab , or Virtual pH Lab ).

GRP170 is large protein that belong to the HSP70 superfamily of molecular chaperones that are
located in the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum, these class of proteins assist with properly folding

GRP170a and GRP170a. The expressions of these two loci of the gene occur at different instances and

UPR signaling is activated when the influx of nascent and unfolded proteins exceeds the processing
capacity of the endoplasmic reticulum (Schroder, Kaufman 2005).
One class of chaperones are heat shock protein (HSP) 70 superfamily, which represent a major class of
chaperones (Easton 2000). Endoplasmic reticulum homologs of these chaperones include Grp170 and
Grp78 (Easton 2000). Due to the similarities in structure it is said that Grp170 might have a similar
function to Grp78(Easton 2000). The endoplasmic homolog of HSP70, GRP78 is said to function as a
chaperone in the ER that aids with the folding of nascent polypeptides (Malhotra, 2007). Although the
cellular functions of Grp170 are not fully understood, data suggests that it can bind to a variety of
incompletely folded polypeptides present in the ER and acts like a chaperone (Behnke , Hendershoot

parent s expenses. The attorney had also requested for the case to be move to a juvenile court rather
than the adult court and seek a reverse waiver for the girls. The attorney as well argues that both girls
confessed during the hearing that Slender man will kill their family if they don t kill Leutner and are
only 12 at the time and should be face with attempted second degree intentional homicide rather than a
first degree. This had allowed the girls to be trail at juvenile court and help justify a lesser charges

43. The Corps Of Discovery And The Native Americans
On February 28, 1803, President Thomas Jefferson, with the approval of congress, created the Corps
of Discovery. Their mission was to map the newly acquired western lands of the Louisianna Purchase,
almost 1803 828,000 square miles of unexplored territory, as well as find a route to the Pacific Ocean.
This expedition was led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. During their adventure, the group
encountered many hostile Native American groups, and if not for Sacagawea, these tribes would have
surely jeopardized their operation. Due to her role as a helpful guide, Sacagawea was crucial in the
encounter between the Corps of Discovery and the Native Americans because she negotiated and
traded between the groups, functioned as a peace token, and served as an interpreter. Sacagawea was
born in 1788 in Lemhi County, Idaho and was part of the Shoshone tribe for which her father was the
chief. Her childhood was ruined when her tribe was attacked by the Hidatsa tribe when she was 11
years old. She was captured as a slave and taken to what is not North Dakota. She spent a miserable
few years with the hostile tribe before being sold to a French Canadian trapper and fur trader named
Toussaint Charbonneau. They lived among the Hidatsa and Mandan Indians in North Dakota. She was
still a young teenager when he forced her to marry him and she became his second wife. One day, the
Corps of Discovery were traveling through the Hidasta Mandan village when they experienced
inclement weather.

44. In The Skin Of A Lion Analysis
Throughout Canadian history, Issues of ethnicity and race have been a prevalent problem as a
multicultural society. The novel In The Skin of a Lion by Michael Ondaatje, Ondaatje shines a light
upon to the forgotten immigrant workers by creating intersection between history and fiction
effectively shows us the overall poor treatment the forgotten immigrant workers who built Toronto s
waterworks and viaducts because of racism, marginalization and difference while also highlighting
them in a positive light. In the Skin of a Lion, Ondaatje explores the problem of ethnicity and race
experienced in the early twenties by the European immigrants by giving them fictional names and
personalities these people were used for hard labour under precarious working conditions and many
died throughout the construction. For example, The men work in the equivalent of the fallout of a
candle (Ondaatje 111). The following is a metaphor that points to the limited lighting in the ... Show

protagonist is possibly in search for the light brightens the darkness in his life, when working with the
immigrants he has a new sense of light, things are going his way but as Clara leaves him he is left in a
state of Darkness. Moreover, Darkness is also used to describe the invisibility experienced by the
immigrants and the experiences in such moments. Ondaatje used bridges to metaphorically connect
the workers and immigrants, The highly descriptive dark tunnels shows us the never ending hard
journey the immigrant workers. Towards the end of the novel, Ondaatje talks about lights (Ondaatje

it into something positive, something perhaps more

45. Human s Obsession with the Pretty One
Chasing Beauty
Sitting in a bar a few nights ago I noticed two women sitting at a table by themselves. It wasn t long
till a group of four guys asked to join them. As the men pulled up chairs they concentrated heavily to
one side of the table. It didn t take long to figure out they were all pining after the more attractive of
the two women. Why does the pretty woman get all the attention and free drinks, and her homely
friend blends into the wallpaper? We all know attractive people get treated better. It s so ingrained in
human evolution to chase after attractive qualities, and it shapes our every day lives.
Advertising is a good example of our affinity for beauty. Magazines, television, billboards, and
Internet pop up ads use attractive people to sell products. We end up chasing products that we believe
will make us healthier, better looking, or covers our physical flaws. They get beautiful models and
actresses to make consumers think the product is what makes the models and actresses attractive. This
tactic is so effective because it plays on our desire to be attractive. The more attractive we are the
better sexual mates we can attract. Martial arts expert Chuck Norris endorses a home workout product
called the Total Gym. We see Chuck Norris using the product in the commercials, yet it had nothing to
do with the level of fitness he achieved. It doesn t matter though. We see the extremely fit man using a
product so we think if we use it as well we to can be in that kind

Counseling Theory Critique: The Bondage Breaker by Neil T. Anderson Dealing with the demonic
should be seen as a truth encounter rather than a power encounter (Anderson, 2000, p. 258) this quote
by Anderson, 2000, basically sums up his entire counseling theory in The Bondage Breaker. Anderson
believes that the majority of what is construed as mental illness by psychologists today is actually
demonic strongholds over the mind. Throughout his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another weakness to Anderson s theory is that he negates the reality of some physical ailments and
instead attributes them to demonic forces. While this may be fact in some cases, this theory is
farfetched in my personal opinion. Even Anderson s example of Dee and her bout with MS is
questionable as he notes a few pages after describing her miraculous recovery after completing his
steps that some cases of MS are degenerative and some display symptoms which come and go such as
seemed the case with Dee (Anderson, 2000). This type of theory comes under scrutiny by people
outside of the Christian faith and makes Christians look like quacks since we believe that some
supernatural force, not scientifically proven, is responsible for physical ailments able to be treated by
medicine. While I feel that many components go into diagnosing physical and mental ailments I am
cautious about subscribing to a belief that could do a person more harm than good. As a skeptic of
Anderson s theory I must consider stories I have heard of Christians refusing medical treatment
because of a belief that God would treat their ailment and later suffering greatly because of this belief.
I believe that God is all powerful and has the ability to cure disease, however, I also believe that God
has allowed us to develop modern medicine to treat very real physical ailments and we should be
careful not to negate

47. Discuss the Ways in Which the Government May Use Fiscal...
Discuss the ways in which the government may use Fiscal policy to help the economy grow out of a
recession. Reference must be made to some policies that the current government has actually use
Fiscal policy involves the use of government spending, taxation and borrowing to affect the level and
growth of aggregate demand, output and jobs. Fiscal policy is also used to change the pattern of
spending on goods and services. It is also a means by which a redistribution of income amp; wealth
can be achieved. It is an instrument of intervention to correct for free market failures. Changes in
fiscal policy affect aggregate demand (AD) and aggregate supply (AS). In the UK, the Treasury

National insurance contributions are the closest example in the UK of a proportional tax, although low
income earners do not pay NICs below an income threshold. A regressive tax is the rate of tax falls as
incomes rise I.e. the average rate of tax is lower for people of higher incomes. In the UK, regressive
taxes come from excise duties of items of spending such as cigarettes and alcohol. Indirect taxes
forma larger percentage of the disposable income of those who earn less, even though they may also
spend less.
How the current government is using fiscal policy.
The current collation government are using fiscal policy to attempt to cut down borrowing and the
budget deficit from previous borrowing of the recent labour governments to be in power. The
Coalition Government wants to halve the budget deficit over a five year period, they have launched a
programme of fiscal austerity amounting to £126 billion a year of combined spending cuts and tax
rises. Most of the fiscal austerity is coming through planned reductions in the real level of government
spending. 80% will come from spending reductions, 20% is forecast to come from higher taxes. The
fiscal squeeze is highly controversial and has led to an impassioned debate among economists about
the best way to control a budget deficit as an economy struggles to lift itself out of recession and
sustain a recovery. Keynesian economists argue that deficit reduction policies risk driving the
economy into a second recession

49. Lubrication Theory For Journal Bearing
John Rogers Dr. Sawicki Flows in a Journal Bearing 17 June 2016 I. LUBRICATION THEORY
Lubrication is the use of viscous fluids to reduce friction and damage between solid surfaces. In
hydrodynamic lubrication, a shaft rotating in a bearing is supported by a layer or wedge of oil so the
shaft is not in contact with bearing material. The surfaces are in sliding motion relative to each other.
Lubrication theory for journal bearings describes the flow of fluids in which the fluid film lubricant
thickness is far smaller than the dimensions of the bearing. A major focus in lubrication theory is to
determine the pressure distribution in the fluid volume. In this way, the forces of the shaft being
supported by the lubricant can be measured. A purpose of analyzing crankshaft bearings is to diminish
friction and wear due to small film thicknesses [1]. The minimum film thickness of a journal bearing
should be greater than the average asperity height (unevenness, roughness) of the journal bearing
surface to prevent any surface contact, and consequently, avoid friction and wear. For journal bearing
design, the minimum safe value for film thickness is 2.5 microns [2]. Values lower than this can create
too low of supporting oil pressure and damage the journal bearing. Bearings in reciprocating
machinery operate with dynamic loads creating large journal orbits within the bearing clearance,
which is the distance between the radius of the bearing and the radius of the journal
