Oso Logos
I would like to address the lack of partnership with the Institute for Faith and Learning. This issue has
already been discussed at length with Dr. Kevin Jackson and a compromise had been reached.
As far as we understood, the partnership with the Institute for Faith and Learning was suggested as a
form of oversight. It is understandable that Baylor has no interest in condoning a problematically
radical or heretical religious group. Oso Logos is by no means such a group but we understand that
precautions must be taken.
The problem with such a partnership is that it does not mesh well with our eventual goals. Once we
have proven through a few years of success that our organization can be a positive addition to student
life, we hope to reconnect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just because they are in S.T.E.M. departments does limit there knowledge and experience. Just for
example, our faculty advisor Dr. Keith Shubert is an ordained Baptist minister!
That being said, we are willing to look for individuals from a broader ranger or departments to join
our Advisory Board. There are some individuals who have already expressed interest in our group.
Two examples are Dr. Francis Beckworth from the philosophy department and Professor James Wren
from the Baylor Law School.
Although it is important not to underestimate the breadth and width of the knowledge and wisdom
currently present on our Faculty board, we would like to expand that further as opportunities allow.
Practically speaking, there is a limit to how many faculty members can be on an advisory board.
Adding two more may be possible but we feel that beyond that, the board may become overcrowded.
We want to respect the time each of these individuals dedicates to the group, not waste it by having
too many advisors. We would appreciate you suggestions on finding the balance between a diverse
group and an oversized crowd.
We hope we adequately addressed your questions. Please let us know if we need to further clarify

Confidence Intervals
Confidence Intervals
Consider the following question: someone takes a sample from a population and finds both the sample
mean and the sample standard deviation. What can he learn from this sample mean about the
population mean?
This is an important problem and is addressed by the Central Limit Theorem. For now, let us not
bother about what this theorem states but we will look at how it could help us in answering our
question.
The Central Limit Theorem tells us that if we take very many samples the means of all these samples
will lie in an interval around the population mean. Some sample means will be larger than the
population mean, some will be smaller. The Central Limit Theorem goes on to state that 95% of the
sample means ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A brief note: Statistical software often gives slightly different but more accurate values. Let us stick
with the consensus of the majority of people working with elementary statistics and use the critical
values given above. Summarized:
|Confidence Interval |Critical Value |
|90% | 1.65 |
|95% | 1.96 |
|99% | 2.58 |
Due to the perfect symmetry of the curve we will find the same but this time positive z values for the
right tail. [pic]
Now we can start calculating confidence intervals.
Sample Mean and Standard Deviation are known, in the case of Sample Size [pic]
The confidence interval for the population mean μ in this situation is given by [pic].
Example 1:
We are looking at a very large group of tests. Forty five tests were selected from this group. The mean
of the sampled tests is 58 and the standard deviation is 13. Find the 95% confidence interval for the
mean grade for the whole class.
Solution:
[pic]. This means that we are 95% confident that the population mean for all these tests is between
[pic] and [pic] or more simply said, between 54.2 and 61.8.

Respiratory Therapy Research Paper
The respiratory system is one of the main bodily systems which function is to maintain adequate
airflow from the environment to the lungs and to provide the oxygen the human body needs to
maintain normal function. The respiratory system includes the nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea,
bronchus and lungs. In 1974, the designation respiratory therapist became standard, and the role of the
respiratory therapist as a health professional is concerned with assessment, diagnostic testing,
treatment, education, and patients with problems with cardiopulmonary system. The therapies
available for respiratory therapists to perform include aerosol drug therapy, humanity therapy, gas

The primary function of upper airway is to exchange heat and moisture. The ISB (isothermic
saturation boundary) is the point that divides the airway by temperature which is constant below this
point and is variable during inhalation and exhalation above this point. The shifts of the ISB can
provide the proper heat and moisture in the upper airway to meet the needs in the lower airway.
Without providing the correct heat moisture exchange between the upper and lower airway can lead to
serious problems within the lungs. Humidification of dry medical gases which are administrated by
inhaling is very important to keep the lower airway in a normal physiology condition; therefore, the
proper heat and humidity helps maintain the normal function of the mucociliary transport system.
Humidity therapy is also used to manage hypothermia and treat bronchospasm caused by cold air.
Bland Aerosol Therapy involves the delivery of sterile water or saline aerosols by using large volume
jet nebulizers and ultrasonic nebulizers to treat upper airway edema, provide proper heat and humidity
in patients with tracheal airway, and help obtain sputum

Centennial Catalyst Newspaper Analysis
Media newsprint specifically, is not merely words on a piece of paper. The same way that books are
more than letters scrambled on a page, newspapers are more than just the articles on them. Even
locally, there is a distinct connection between democracy and the media. The Centennial Catalyst,
Centennial Secondary School s newspaper was created in 1966 and up until 2014, it was the
independent voice of the students. That was before it was cancelled. A combination of a lack of
students to contribute and budget cuts, the newspaper found itself discontinued; then the 2015 school
year came along. This new year brought along new money and new students and therefore the
reinvigoration of the Catalyst. This was my first experience with the newspaper, ... Show more content

Democracy in media, this is the topic of this essay, but before I get to that I m going to spoil the
ending. At the beginning of the current school year, the Catalyst had been cancelled again, no one had
fought for it, no one wanted it, and no one respected it. The blood sweat and tears that half dozen
students and I poured into this publication had been pushed over into the pile of reject courses our
school would no longer carry. There is no guarantee that Centennial will ever have a newspaper again
and that any other future student will get to read or write an article on from the Catalyst. Democracy.
The Meridian Webster Dictionary defines this word as meaning, government by the people. At the
same time as I was writing for the Catalyst, I was also fighting a battle for democracy in our student
government. VOX, meaning voice in Latin, was the original name for the student government at
Centennial. For the 2015 school year, everything changed, the election system formerly used was now
gone. The power to choose representatives was taken away from the students and put into the hands of
our schools socials department. The name was also changed from VOX to Student Council, they could
no longer call themselves VOX

Temporary Fix Research Paper
In the midst of loneliness, abandonment, struggles and confusion, every person has a longing to find
comfort, peace and direction in their fragile state. Every human being desires a lasting joy and peace
and will grasp at some sort of means to suffice this longing. In search of relief for discomfort and
grief, some people turn to mind altering substances such as alcohol, illegal drugs and prescribed
medications as a solution. Others may allow their emotions to overtake them lashing out in physical
violence by destroying objects, hurting themselves or even harming other people to alleviate the
sufferings they have encountered. Numerous people will turn to another individual for comfort and

is so simple to trust Christ! Why would anyone want to gamble with their soul when God s plan of
salvation is so simple? All you need to do is acknowledge your sins, understand that they are
sentencing you to hell and turn from your sins to a loving God. Romans 10: 9 10 reveals it very

Garrett Hardin Lifeboat Ethics
The Article Lifeboat Ethics: the Case Against Helping the Poor was written by Garrett Hardin and
published in Psychology Today. Hardin s essay was exactly as the title suggested, An argument against
helping the poor for a variety of well thought out reasons. Hardin explains why we should not help the
poor by using Lifeboat Ethics , the world that could be overpopulated, and the Tragedy of the
Commons in order to persuade us in favor of his ideals. While he does have many good points in this
Article, Hardin fails to elaborate on what he means by Quality immigrants and he does not state the
problem to benefiting while helping others even though he eludes to this moral wrong throughout the

Long Grove Company s Mission Essay
Long Grove Confectionery Company founded by John and Heidi Mangel started the company as a
retail business in 1975. Locating in Long Grove, IL, the original Long Grove Confectionery was a
retail shop and candy kitchen that was housed in a nostalgic replica of a red schoolhouse. After a
successful ten years, Long Grove Confectionery had outgrown a small kitchen and moved its
production to a 25,000 square feet facility in Buffalo Grove, IL. Shortly after that transition, Long
Grove Confectionary added another 60,000 square feet which increased its total size to 85,000 square
feet in order to meet the rising demand from its retail and wholesale customers. In June of 2013, Long
Grove Confectionery Company was sold to Craig Leva; the president and owner of a Chicago based
chocolate company Arway Confections, Inc. With the expertise of Craig Leva, Long Grove
Confectionery Company was able to stay alive through its hardships in 2013 when John and Heidi

we live in Illinois. When we get to New York we go to the hospital and she my aunt. As we get to the

I would have set it down but I have an otterbox case. But then we left and got our dinner which was

After that we went to bed because we had to get up at 9:00 am to go see Meghan and Nazire. We went

Then we went to the hospital and Meghan was still in her bed just chillin. Then the doctor walked in

To what extent does success in china depend on businesses...
Success for a business in a large market such as china can be a very difficult thing to achieve; there are
many factors that can affect the success or failure of a business that decides to merge into China s
markets. Most people would assume that due to the very large population of china (roughly 1.35
billion/1,363,496,913) operating a business there would not be a problem, this however is incorrect,
just because there is lots of people there doesn t for a minute make it any easier to set u p and run a
successful business.
The main point I would say that is essential to success in china is adaptation. If a business is able to
adapt well to its surroundings, i.e. the ability to easily change its products and services to match the
needs of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Making their chain stores very traditional and fitting with the local culture. Surprisingly Starbucks
charges as much as 50% more for some of its products in China than in the U.S., the U.K. and India,
but yet it is still a huge success, this is because the business catered well for the needs and adapted.
Carrying a Starbucks cup is seen as a status symbol, a way to demonstrate sophistication and the
capability to afford a personal luxury for the up and coming middle class in China. This links into the
brand recognition that Starbucks has created for itself and shows how they carefully targeted their
products at the new middle class, it is estimated that it s more than 300 million, already larger than the
entire population of the United States. This middle class is about 25% of the total Chinese population
and as Starbucks has such a recognisable brand people are more liable to visit the store.
However, that being said some large companies have tried to adapt for the Chinese markets, and failed
despite their efforts. One large well known company that can be an example of this is McDonalds.
Although the very popular and globally recognised company has succeeded almost everywhere else,
doesn t guaranty its success everywhere. By adapting their menus to what they thought was the local
cuisine, the managers of the franchise thought they were on to a winner, but as time went on it became
obvious that simply changing their menus wasn t

The Impact Of Media On The Performance Of Gender
Evaluate the role of media in the performance of gender. Media is the most powerful tool of
communication in today s society, and it represents a constructive role, as without media it wouldn t
be possible to collect any knowledge and information. Media has an essential role of representing
differences as well constructing them; it presents differences regards to race, culture, and many other
structural variables in a certain way, yet within all the differences gender binary is conspicuous from
the birth. Media has a responsible role in the society, due to the fact that its construction of
masculinity and femininity images has a significant influence on how the individual s life is lead. The
way media represents gender has changed throughout the history, and still changes over time, and
these changes implicates our everyday lives albeit we are conscious of it or not. It is initially crucial to
engage with the theories about the complexities of gender, and gain an in depth insight of how one can
perform gender in order to understand the impact of media on shaping our lives through constructing
our understanding of gender. Secondly, after comprehending media s massive influence on our
perception, analysing contemporary media examples will be helpful to embody this impact on our
identities, and everyday lives.
From the very beginning of our lives, gender is the most outstanding difference that distinguishes one
from another, yet gender is much more complex than we would

The Battle of Agincourt Essay
The Battle of Agincourt occurred in the middle Ages, on October 25, 1415. This battle is one of the
most memorable and strategically fought battles between England and France. The Battle of Agincourt
involved England and France near Agincourt. The Battle of Agincourt happened during the Hundred
Years War . The hundred year War began in 1337 and ended in 1453. The hundred years war actually
lasted 116 years. The Hundred Years war included England, France and later Burgundy. Sometimes
England won the battles and sometimes France won (Keegan 79).

In 1405, King Henry IV got sick and Prince Hall took over most of his duties until his death in 1413.
Prince Hal became King, took on the name of King Henry V. King Henry V fell into his role as king
quickly, and got involved in other battles prior to the Battle of Agincourt that prepared him for that
battle (Middle Ages.org).
King Henry V wanted to continue the negotiations with France and made some demands that the
French thought was ridiculous. King Henry V was willing to give up some items in the Treaty but only
if France paid 1.6 million crowns; part of the debt owed his ancestors for the capture of John II. In
addition, he wanted the France to give up Aquitaine, Normandy, Touraine, Anjou, Brittany, Flanders
and other territories. King Henry would marry the Princess of France, King Charles VI daughter and
received pay of 600,000 crowns (Keegan 80).
France refused to negotiate; so King Henry asked the Parliament to tax France for the inheritance that
they owed him. France ignored England s demands. On April 14, 1415, King Henry V asked the
Parliament to sanction war against France. The Parliament agreed and the Battle with France will soon

A Look At The Problem
A look at the problem
On further analysis, the book makes it apparent that there is an inherent tendency towards individual
gains over the health of the market. As a result, it is easy for big business to direct their resources
towards frustrating the efforts of their smaller compatriots in a bid to secure profits. Moreover, this
behavior contrasts with the needs of a stable market whereby individuals can benefit from their ability
to identify lucrative offers before the competition. Rather, the current system allows larger trading
firms to piggyback on the system and contravene on its demand for equitable access to resources by
capitalizing on the lack of legislation and the relative newness of the technologies involved. For
instance, the justice system had mixed reactions when dealing with issues such as ownership of coding
resources such as in Sergey Aleynikov s case, which necessitates a change in the legal frameworks
surrounding the stock trading system. The system is quick to defend the rights of these firms but fails
in regulating their competitiveness since they beat the system and create an environment where they
profit even if they are not the first to identify stock on which they might make profits.
In the course of the book, Lewis introduces the notion of equitable access that renders the HFT
systems obsolete since it aggregates purchase requests into a stream that reaches the destination
simultaneously. This system, aptly named the Investors Exchange (IEX),

human beings are naturally equal; that means everybody including the slaves has the human right,

Education Reform In The United States
Is school reform hopeless in our states and cities? In my opinion, education reform is useless due to a
variety of occurrences going on in the world that nobody is focused on and changing these schools to
make them more efficient for all students. An example of this is the government not caring at all about
how most of these schools are lacking in money and in need of help to be able to acquire the best
education. Many schools in the world are so poor and struggling that students are forced to drop out
and eventually end up getting into gangs leading to violence and drugs all over the streets. Not only
are these some of our most significant leading problems, but we also see the amount of discrimination
between the schools. There are cases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This thing is money. Money was used for buying things that benefit us and helps us in any way.
Schools all around the world have a necessity for supplies, better equipment for classes or food for
lunchrooms. To acquire this, we need money, which most schools don t have. Poor schools are in
desperate need of these things to try to provide a much more efficient education for their students.
Schools will turn to the aid of the government in the hope of getting money for the school. In most
cases, you would think that the government would help out the poorest schools, but that s not the case.
In savage Inequalities schools along with many desperate families are asking for the assistance of their
board of education as well as the government for help with schools lacking in many supplies and the
environment their living. Rather than receiving the help they need the government helps out the richer
schools more than the schools that need the help. Why is it that the poor schools in the South Side of
Chicago don t get help from the government, but the richest schools do. This shows us how ethnicity
plays a role in our society. Many of the wealthy schools mainly have white students who attend the
schools, while in poor schools are mainly populated by Hispanic students and African American
students. That s

The Impact Of Sound On The World Of Sound Cinema
Sound is obviously an essential part of cinema, and most couldn t imagine watching any sort of

including vaudeville acts, musical numbers, political speeches and opera singers. Unfortunately, this
sound film didn t last long because it was overshadowed by the sound on disc, later named the
Vitaphone.
The Vitaphone was developed by Western Electrics Bell Laboratories and quickly acquired by Warner
Bros Company in April of 1925. The Warner Brothers film Don Juan, directed by Alan Crosland,
which utilized the first system with synchronized music score and sound effects, first showcased the
Vitaphone. Using the Vitaphone, Warner Brothers went on to produce over 100 short films during the
mid 1920 s. In 1927, The Jazz Singer was released, which was essentially a silent picture with
Vitaphone score and the occasional episodes of synchronized singing and speech. Although the
Vitaphone seemed like a revolutionary concept opening a whole new market of cinema, it became
apparent that recording on film would be much more convenient.
Sound on disk had been in the tweaking process throughout the early

Major trends in the general environment
Jamba Juice has tried to capture a good portion of health conscious consumers by providing healthy
smoothies and other nutritious foods for customers on the go. Even though there are direct competitors
such as Planet Smoothie, Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Panera Bread and McDonalds, Jamba Juice
remains competitive by offering its unique blend of smoothies. They are made with real fruit and
100% fruit juices that are blended to order. They are also rich in vitamins, minerals, proteins, and
fiber. No other competitor comes close to providing such a healthy substitute. In addition, Jamba Juice

Jamba remains a tough competitor due to its healthy menu.
Threat of Rivalry
Threat of rivalry is high as Jamba is competing against several brand name rivals that have the ability
to influence the industry. Jamba Juice is offering similar foods as the rest of its competition, many of
which are much larger, thus it tries to differentiate itself by offering healthy alternatives to its
competitor s products.
Threat of Buyers
The threat of buyers is high. Since there are many products and restaurants to choose from, Jamba
must provide a memorable and pleasant experience to its customers to entice them to return. In
addition, it must continue its marketing strategy of informing the public of the benefits of its products
in an effort to keep up its clientele. However, Jamba Juice must ensure that marketing strategies don t
become too costly and cut into its profits.
Threat of Suppliers
The threat of suppliers is high for Jamba Juice since it depends heavily on high quality supplies of
fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the year. It had to find distributors that were willing to flash
freeze the produce and agree to store it at their facilities until it was ready to be shipped to stores. In
order to lower distribution costs, the company must cluster future store developments.

Government and Industry were Fully Established in the 19th...
The 19th century in America was a period of development. Now that the federal government had been
fully established, the United States was settling into the new nation and embark on the journey of
becoming a world power. To do so, the republic must construct a thriving industry, or the economy
would crash and the nation would become impoverished. However, the industry was not easy to build
up. It required careful nurturing and a watchful guide so that it would become the industry in the
current United States. Who would cultivate the industry? Rather than a single body or entity,
numerous factors resulted in the growth of industry. In the 19th century, the growth of an industry can
be attributed to the availability of financing spurred by protective tariffs, the Bank of the United
States, a wealth of laborers, and economic expansion. The central government became instrumental in
the industry s success by passing tariffs, and in doing so, protecting American businesses. Tariffs were
taxes that were passed on goods imported from outside the country. After the War of 1812, even the
most stalwart Democratic Republicans [realized] that the United States needed to attain economic
independence (Tariff of 1816). This would become a huge danger to the nation s welfare if they ever
went to war with Britain again, which was the source of their manufactured goods. Consequentially, in
1816, the first tariff that would protect American businesses was passed, in hopes of creating an

The Metabolic Rate Of Goldfish
Introduction
To determine the metabolic rate of a goldfish two different methods can be applied, direct or indirect
calorimetry. Direct calorimetry analyzes the exothermic reaction when ATP is produced by measuring
the amount of heat that is released. Meanwhile, indirect calorimetry measures the amount of carbon
dioxide or oxygen because both are components of aerobic respiration, a process which repeatedly
supplies more ATP to match the demands of metabolic rate of an organism. Evidently, metabolic rate
is the cumulative sum of energy used by all the cells. Most of this energy comes from regulating
homeostasis, locomotion and thermoregulation. On the other hand, ectotherms like goldfish have a
slight difference in their metabolic rates because their internal temperature directly correlates with the
temperature of their environment. For this reason, ectotherms use less energy because they do not
need to worry about thermoregulation, maintaining constant body temperature. However, temperature,
size, amount of light and stimulus are factors that can affect metabolism of goldfish. Thus, this
experiment will measure the metabolic rate of goldfish through in direct calorimetry. Furthermore, the
amount of oxygen in the chamber reveals the amount of cellular respiration of the organism. While
also, test the effects of decreasing oxygen, and later increasing the heat on the metabolic rate of
goldfish. I hypothesize that an increase in temperature will increase their metabolic rate

Native Peoples in New England Essay example
Native American history spans tens of thousands of thousands of years and two continents. It is a
multifaceted story of dynamic cultures that in turn spawned intricate economic relationships and
complex political alliances. Through it all, the relationship of First Peoples to the land has remained a
central theme.
Though Native Americans of the region today known as New England share similar languages and
cultures, known as Eastern Algonquian, they are not one political or social group. Rather, they
comprised and still comprise many sub groups. For example, the Pequots and Mohegans live in
Connecticut, the Wampanoag reside in southeastern Massachusetts, while the Pocumtucks dwelt in the

as an important fishing area and meeting ground. Wequamps (Mt. Sugarloaf) is the focal point of the

The Connecticut River Valley was a vital crossroads for Native peoples of the Northeast. Today, the
town of Deerfield, Massachusetts lies at the heart of the Pocumtuck people s homeland. Pocumtucks
were part of a network of Algonquian communities in the middle Connecticut River Valley.
Settlements lined the middle Connecticut River. In addition to the Pocumtuck, the Norwottuck
homeland lay near present day Northampton and Hadley, the Sokokis near Northfield, the Agawams
around Agawam, Woronocos near West Springfield, and the Nipmuc homeland lay in central
Massachusetts. These peoples were linked culturally, linguistically, politically, and through kinship.
These Algonquian communities together constituted a formidable power in Southern New England
(Melvoin 32). Numerous trails and waterways connected these settlements with each other, facilitating
intricate and extensive trade networks. Algonquians also traded with other peoples living to the west,
north and south. The fertile soil and plentiful game fostered a prosperous society that enjoyed a robust
economy and a stable political structure.

Brown V Ferguson Case
As it neared one hundred years after the onset of the interstate conflict which centered around slavery
s place in the United States, black citizens were still deprived of the rights guaranteed to all Americans
by the equal protection clause of the fourteenth amendment, prompting the premier civil rights
organization, the NAACP, to seek equality through the most logical method, overruling the legal base
of the institution. The Brown v. Board ruling in 1954 seemed to be the death knell of segregation
wrought by the 1896 Plessy v. Ferguson case. Unfortunately the movement of mass resistance proved
to be able to out maneuver law, particularly in the south, thanks to segregationist majorities holding
legislative, executive, and law enforcing power. To force the judicially mandated desegregation on
reluctant southern states the NAACP focused on universities, as they ... Show more content on

ally of UGA Charles Bloch published a book title state s rights: the Law of the Land, (pg. 50),
allowing him to give legal counsel having literally written the book on the subject. UGA officials, of
course, asserted that they maintained impartiality in regards to race when making their decision,

Is There a Significant Difference in Height of Bracken...
Is there a significant difference in height of Bracken (Pteridium aquilinum) from a light area and a

Abstract: This investigation was designed to compare the height of Pteridium aquilinum in a light area
and a dark area of Rushy Plains, Epping Forest and to establish if light intensity does have an effect on
the growth of Pteridium aquilinum, commonly known as Bracken. From my research it was clear that
the height of Bracken is affected by abiotic factors, other than light intensity, such as: soil moisture,
soil temperature, air temperature and soil pH so I had to control these factors. I carried out preliminary
experiments to find a suitable site where all these factors where constant. For my actual investigation I

The diagram above shows the two stages of photosynthesis. As you can see, light is a key component
as it start the light dependent reactions which produces ATP and NADPH, which is needed in the light
independent reactions to make glucose. So without light, there is no ATP and NADPH produced and
thus no glucose produced, therefore the food chain cannot be started. Glucose is also needed to make
DNA and hormones for plant growth, it is also require during plant respiration. So it can be
established the light is vital for plant growth and it affects the height of plants indefinitely.
Photoperiodism:
Photoperiodism is the effect of the relative lengths of light and dark periods on plant growth. This
occurs when photoreceptor proteins e.g phytochromes are produced by plants in response to light
intensity or the absence of light. This in effect affects the height of plants. [5]
Phototropism:
Phototropism is the growth of a plant in the direction of its light source. Phototropism occurs due to a
hormone called auxin which is produced at shoot tips. Auxin influences cell division, if there is light
on one side then the dark side will receive more auxin and therefore more cell division will occur on
that side, which will force the plant to bend towards the light therefore affecting the height of the

Dillon vs Champion Dogbra Essay
Assignment #5 Dillon v. Champion Jogbra Business Employment Law (HRIS) Dr. Jean Gordon,
Instructor 1. What were the legal issues in this case? The legal issues in this case stem from a lawsuit
filed by former Champion Jogbra employee, Linda Dillon. She accused her former employer of
wrongful termination. She believed the company breached the implied contract and terminated her
services without abiding by its progressive discipline policy as outlined in the company handbook.
But, according to Walsh (2010, p. 589), the first page of the manual states; the policies and procedures

She would maintain the same pay and benefits, and she had until the end of December 1998 to find a
new position or face termination. Dillon did apply for a new position that would become open in a
month, but was not selected for that position. Dillon left Champion Jogbra when her temporary
position expired. Promissory estoppel is a term used in contract law that applies where, although there
may not otherwise be an enforceable contract, because one party has relied on the promise of the
other, it would be unfair not to enforce the agreement. (USLegal.com, 2012) Champion s counter
argument was that Dillon was an at will employee, and based on policy outlined in the employee
handbook, could be terminated at any given time. 2. Explain what the implied contract was in this
case. An implied contract is a promise made between two or more parties. Upon accepting a job at the
end of an interview, the hiring party is likely to shake the new hire s hand. This is an implied contract.
(Doverspike, 2012) The implied contract in this case occurred when Dillon interviewed for the new
position. At first, she was told by the Human Resource manager that her extensive training would
include time with her predecessor. In addition, the vice president, her immediate supervisor, reassured
her that her predecessor would be brought

Conflict Between The Workplace And A Functioning Group
Conflict in the workplace can either be constructive or destructive to a functioning group or unit.
Conflict is defined as a process that begins when one party perceives another party has or is about to
negatively affects something the first party cares about (Robbins Judge, 2013). It is also believed that
it is possible for someone to move into an authoritative position due to avoiding conflict, but their
advancement usually stalls.
In the past, I worked for a busy organization as an administrative assistant. I also worked along with
three other administrative assistants in my department. We worked well as a group, were able to
manage conflict, and had trust in one another. What I admired about our group was that we were all
cross trained and were able to fill in for each other whenever it was needed. There was one
administrative assistant in our group whose productivity level was superior and always went the extra
mile to keep the boss satisfied. She never complained or argued and hardly showed any emotions.
During staff meetings, she kept quiet never voicing any of her concerns.
Analysis
Meanwhile, I have witnessed on my job my co worker move up within the company due to avoiding
conflict. The boss decided to promote her from administrative assistant to office manager. She was
well liked, eager to please, and avoided conflict and confrontation. She was also a hard worker in
which was what the boss really admired of her. Whatever decisions he made she would agree

the pros and cons of adoption and the process of adoption, and stories of adoption. Also, I will talk and
explain about the system and what could be improvements to the system. Adoption is an old process.
Adoption is a process where parents who cannot provide for their kids can put them up for adoption to
couples, or people would provide for the children. The concept of adoption was not legally recognized
in the United States until the 1850 s. Back then there were no formal records of children being
adopted. As the numbers of the informal adoption grew, they soon realized that they needed to get a
legal process of started. In 1851, Massachusetts enacted the first adoption statute.Adoption History:

The United States Antitrust Laws
INTRODUCTION Through the course of this paper I will introduce and discuss the history of the
movement towards an actively and engaged antitrust legislation. I will also identify the original and
early antitrust laws and how they have influenced the economy, as we know it today. Upon the
completion of this paper you will understand who was set to benefit (gain) from anti legislation and
who loses under the intentions of the antitrust laws today and in the past.
LITERATURE REVIEW The United States antitrust legislation is a legislation designed to break up
and prevent the formation of new monopolies to increase competition and societal welfare. Thus the
United State Antitrust law is a collection of both state and federal government laws enacted to
promote fair competition in the economy. The antitrust laws main statutes consist of the Sherman Act
of 1890, the Clayton Act of 1914 and the Federal Trade Commission Act of 1914. In combination
these acts have enforced the proper rules and regulations that businesses must conform to today to
ensure that there is a healthy competition within the economy to not only the benefit of the consumers
who utilize these services and goods but for the health of the businesses who make up our market
industries. While Rockefeller s Standard Oil is a well known example of an early monopoly a few
other examples of early monopolistic companies are known as The Whisky Trust, and the Tobacco

Human Trafficking in the United States
Products from all over the world are being distributed and sold from other countries to people in the
United States. Imports and exports to and from the U.S include products as wide ranged as food,
clothes, and even people. Human trafficking is a worldwide problem, including the United States.
Currently, there are approximately 20.9 million people enslaved throughout the world with 2.5 million
located in the United States. About 14,500 17,500 of foreign nationals are trafficked into the United
States every year (Human trafficking statistics). These statistics show that slavery is still alive and
flourishing throughout the entire world. When humans are exchanged, exploited, and forced into
prostitution, and involuntary labor, it is called human trafficking. Human trafficking is a very serious
problem which has been going on for centuries; I believe spreading awareness is imperative to solving
this ongoing problem. There has been many government attempts to try to alleviate this problem in the
past with the Emancipation Proclamation, the Thirteenth Amendment, Out of the 20.9 million people
that are enslaved in the world, more than 70 percent are female and half are children (Human
trafficking statistics). Approximately 80% of trafficking involves sexual exploitation and many
victims are runaway girls who were sexually abused as children (Human trafficking statistics).
Although the government has tried numerous things to stop human trafficking, it is still happening.

  • 2. Oso Logos I would like to address the lack of partnership with the Institute for Faith and Learning. This issue has already been discussed at length with Dr. Kevin Jackson and a compromise had been reached. As far as we understood, the partnership with the Institute for Faith and Learning was suggested as a form of oversight. It is understandable that Baylor has no interest in condoning a problematically radical or heretical religious group. Oso Logos is by no means such a group but we understand that precautions must be taken. The problem with such a partnership is that it does not mesh well with our eventual goals. Once we have proven through a few years of success that our organization can be a positive addition to student life, we hope to reconnect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just because they are in S.T.E.M. departments does limit there knowledge and experience. Just for example, our faculty advisor Dr. Keith Shubert is an ordained Baptist minister! That being said, we are willing to look for individuals from a broader ranger or departments to join our Advisory Board. There are some individuals who have already expressed interest in our group. Two examples are Dr. Francis Beckworth from the philosophy department and Professor James Wren from the Baylor Law School. Although it is important not to underestimate the breadth and width of the knowledge and wisdom currently present on our Faculty board, we would like to expand that further as opportunities allow. Practically speaking, there is a limit to how many faculty members can be on an advisory board. Adding two more may be possible but we feel that beyond that, the board may become overcrowded. We want to respect the time each of these individuals dedicates to the group, not waste it by having too many advisors. We would appreciate you suggestions on finding the balance between a diverse group and an oversized crowd. We hope we adequately addressed your questions. Please let us know if we need to further clarify ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Confidence Intervals Confidence Intervals Consider the following question: someone takes a sample from a population and finds both the sample mean and the sample standard deviation. What can he learn from this sample mean about the population mean? This is an important problem and is addressed by the Central Limit Theorem. For now, let us not bother about what this theorem states but we will look at how it could help us in answering our question. The Central Limit Theorem tells us that if we take very many samples the means of all these samples will lie in an interval around the population mean. Some sample means will be larger than the population mean, some will be smaller. The Central Limit Theorem goes on to state that 95% of the sample means ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A brief note: Statistical software often gives slightly different but more accurate values. Let us stick with the consensus of the majority of people working with elementary statistics and use the critical values given above. Summarized: |Confidence Interval |Critical Value | |90% | 1.65 | |95% | 1.96 | |99% | 2.58 | Due to the perfect symmetry of the curve we will find the same but this time positive z values for the right tail. [pic] Now we can start calculating confidence intervals. Sample Mean and Standard Deviation are known, in the case of Sample Size [pic] The confidence interval for the population mean μ in this situation is given by [pic]. Example 1: We are looking at a very large group of tests. Forty five tests were selected from this group. The mean of the sampled tests is 58 and the standard deviation is 13. Find the 95% confidence interval for the mean grade for the whole class. Solution: [pic]. This means that we are 95% confident that the population mean for all these tests is between [pic] and [pic] or more simply said, between 54.2 and 61.8.

  • 5. Respiratory Therapy Research Paper The respiratory system is one of the main bodily systems which function is to maintain adequate airflow from the environment to the lungs and to provide the oxygen the human body needs to maintain normal function. The respiratory system includes the nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchus and lungs. In 1974, the designation respiratory therapist became standard, and the role of the respiratory therapist as a health professional is concerned with assessment, diagnostic testing, treatment, education, and patients with problems with cardiopulmonary system. The therapies available for respiratory therapists to perform include aerosol drug therapy, humanity therapy, gas therapy, airway clearance therapy and lung expansion therapy. As ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The primary function of upper airway is to exchange heat and moisture. The ISB (isothermic saturation boundary) is the point that divides the airway by temperature which is constant below this point and is variable during inhalation and exhalation above this point. The shifts of the ISB can provide the proper heat and moisture in the upper airway to meet the needs in the lower airway. Without providing the correct heat moisture exchange between the upper and lower airway can lead to serious problems within the lungs. Humidification of dry medical gases which are administrated by inhaling is very important to keep the lower airway in a normal physiology condition; therefore, the proper heat and humidity helps maintain the normal function of the mucociliary transport system. Humidity therapy is also used to manage hypothermia and treat bronchospasm caused by cold air. Bland Aerosol Therapy involves the delivery of sterile water or saline aerosols by using large volume jet nebulizers and ultrasonic nebulizers to treat upper airway edema, provide proper heat and humidity in patients with tracheal airway, and help obtain sputum ... • 6. Centennial Catalyst Newspaper Analysis Media newsprint specifically, is not merely words on a piece of paper. The same way that books are more than letters scrambled on a page, newspapers are more than just the articles on them. Even locally, there is a distinct connection between democracy and the media. The Centennial Catalyst, Centennial Secondary School s newspaper was created in 1966 and up until 2014, it was the independent voice of the students. That was before it was cancelled. A combination of a lack of students to contribute and budget cuts, the newspaper found itself discontinued; then the 2015 school year came along. This new year brought along new money and new students and therefore the reinvigoration of the Catalyst. This was my first experience with the newspaper, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Democracy in media, this is the topic of this essay, but before I get to that I m going to spoil the ending. At the beginning of the current school year, the Catalyst had been cancelled again, no one had fought for it, no one wanted it, and no one respected it. The blood sweat and tears that half dozen students and I poured into this publication had been pushed over into the pile of reject courses our school would no longer carry. There is no guarantee that Centennial will ever have a newspaper again and that any other future student will get to read or write an article on from the Catalyst. Democracy. The Meridian Webster Dictionary defines this word as meaning, government by the people. At the same time as I was writing for the Catalyst, I was also fighting a battle for democracy in our student government. VOX, meaning voice in Latin, was the original name for the student government at Centennial. For the 2015 school year, everything changed, the election system formerly used was now gone. The power to choose representatives was taken away from the students and put into the hands of our schools socials department. The name was also changed from VOX to Student Council, they could no longer call themselves VOX ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Every human being desires a lasting joy and peace and will grasp at some sort of means to suffice this longing. In search of relief for discomfort and grief, some people turn to mind altering substances such as alcohol, illegal drugs and prescribed medications as a solution. Success for a business in a large market such as china can be a very difficult thing to achieve; there are many factors that can affect the success or failure of a business that decides to merge into China s markets. Media is the most powerful tool of communication in today s society, and it represents a constructive role, as without media it wouldn t be possible to collect any knowledge and information. As a result, it is easy for big business to direct their resources towards frustrating the efforts of their smaller compatriots in a bid to secure profits. Moreover, this behavior contrasts with the needs of a stable market whereby individuals can benefit from their ability to identify lucrative offers before the competition. Rather, the current system allows larger trading firms to piggyback on the system and contravene on its demand for equitable access to resources by capitalizing on the lack of legislation and the relative newness of the technologies involved. For instance, the justice system had mixed reactions when dealing with issues such as ownership of coding resources such as in Sergey Aleynikov s case, which necessitates a change in the legal frameworks surrounding the stock trading system. The system is quick to defend the rights of these firms but fails in regulating their competitiveness since they beat the system and create an environment where they profit even if they are not the first to identify stock on which they might make profits. In the course of the book, Lewis introduces the notion of equitable access that renders the HFT systems obsolete since it aggregates purchase requests into a stream that reaches the destination simultaneously. Although how did sounds start and what were some major advancements in the world of sound cinema? The introduction of sound to cinema began by a process known as Phonofilm, created by a man named Lee de Forest and Theodore Case in 1923. The Phonofilm, which recorded synchronized sound directly onto film, was used to record a variety of entertainment including vaudeville acts, musical numbers, political speeches and opera singers. Unfortunately, this sound film didn t last long because it was overshadowed by the sound on disc, later named the Vitaphone. The Vitaphone was developed by Western Electrics Bell Laboratories and quickly acquired by Warner Bros Company in April of 1925. The Warner Brothers film Don Juan, directed by Alan Crosland, which utilized the first system with synchronized music score and sound effects, first showcased the Vitaphone. Now that the federal government had been fully established, the United States was settling into the new nation and embark on the journey of becoming a world power. To do so, the republic must construct a thriving industry, or the economy would crash and the nation would become impoverished. However, the industry was not easy to build up. It required careful nurturing and a watchful guide so that it would become the industry in the current United States. Who would cultivate the industry? Rather than a single body or entity, numerous factors resulted in the growth of industry. In the 19th century, the growth of an industry can be attributed to the availability of financing spurred by protective tariffs, the Bank of the United States, a wealth of laborers, and economic expansion. The central government became instrumental in the industry s success by passing tariffs, and in doing so, protecting American businesses. Tariffs were taxes that were passed on goods imported from outside the country. • 26. The Metabolic Rate Of Goldfish Introduction To determine the metabolic rate of a goldfish two different methods can be applied, direct or indirect calorimetry. Direct calorimetry analyzes the exothermic reaction when ATP is produced by measuring the amount of heat that is released. Meanwhile, indirect calorimetry measures the amount of carbon dioxide or oxygen because both are components of aerobic respiration, a process which repeatedly supplies more ATP to match the demands of metabolic rate of an organism. Evidently, metabolic rate is the cumulative sum of energy used by all the cells. Most of this energy comes from regulating homeostasis, locomotion and thermoregulation. On the other hand, ectotherms like goldfish have a slight difference in their metabolic rates because their internal temperature directly correlates with the temperature of their environment. For this reason, ectotherms use less energy because they do not need to worry about thermoregulation, maintaining constant body temperature. However, temperature, size, amount of light and stimulus are factors that can affect metabolism of goldfish. Thus, this experiment will measure the metabolic rate of goldfish through in direct calorimetry. Furthermore, the amount of oxygen in the chamber reveals the amount of cellular respiration of the organism. While also, test the effects of decreasing oxygen, and later increasing the heat on the metabolic rate of goldfish. Amusingly, this argument was so integral to the matter, that segregationist ally of UGA Charles Bloch published a book title state s rights: the Law of the Land, (pg. 50), allowing him to give legal counsel having literally written the book on the subject. UGA officials, of course, asserted that they maintained impartiality in regards to race when making their decision, regardless of the ample segregationist views among the staff. NAACP lawyers countered that despite these claims these ideas were clearly the reason for the rejection of Ward, Holmes, and Hunter, which is a clear violation of both the fourteenth amendment and the Brown v. • 29. Is There a Significant Difference in Height of Bracken... Is there a significant difference in height of Bracken (Pteridium aquilinum) from a light area and a dark area? Abstract: This investigation was designed to compare the height of Pteridium aquilinum in a light area and a dark area of Rushy Plains, Epping Forest and to establish if light intensity does have an effect on the growth of Pteridium aquilinum, commonly known as Bracken. From my research it was clear that the height of Bracken is affected by abiotic factors, other than light intensity, such as: soil moisture, soil temperature, air temperature and soil pH so I had to control these factors. I carried out preliminary experiments to find a suitable site where all these factors where constant. For my actual investigation I measure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Picture 2 The diagram above shows the two stages of photosynthesis. As you can see, light is a key component as it start the light dependent reactions which produces ATP and NADPH, which is needed in the light independent reactions to make glucose. So without light, there is no ATP and NADPH produced and thus no glucose produced, therefore the food chain cannot be started. Glucose is also needed to make DNA and hormones for plant growth, it is also require during plant respiration. So it can be established the light is vital for plant growth and it affects the height of plants indefinitely. Photoperiodism: Photoperiodism is the effect of the relative lengths of light and dark periods on plant growth. This occurs when photoreceptor proteins e.g phytochromes are produced by plants in response to light intensity or the absence of light. This in effect affects the height of plants. [5] Phototropism: Phototropism is the growth of a plant in the direction of its light source. Phototropism occurs due to a hormone called auxin which is produced at shoot tips. Auxin influences cell division, if there is light on one side then the dark side will receive more auxin and therefore more cell division will occur on that side, which will force the plant to bend towards the light therefore affecting the height of the ... The legal issues in this case stem from a lawsuit filed by former Champion Jogbra employee, Linda Dillon. She accused her former employer of wrongful termination. She believed the company breached the implied contract and terminated her services without abiding by its progressive discipline policy as outlined in the company handbook. She would maintain the same pay and benefits, and she had until the end of December 1998 to find a new position or face termination. Dillon did apply for a new position that would become open in a month, but was not selected for that position. Dillon left Champion Jogbra when her temporary position expired. Promissory estoppel is a term used in contract law that applies where, although there may not otherwise be an enforceable contract, because one party has relied on the promise of the other, it would be unfair not to enforce the agreement. (USLegal.com, 2012) Champion s counter argument was that Dillon was an at will employee, and based on policy outlined in the employee handbook, could be terminated at any given time. 2. Explain what the implied contract was in this case. An implied contract is a promise made between two or more parties. Upon accepting a job at the end of an interview, the hiring party is likely to shake the new hire s hand. This is an implied contract. (Doverspike, 2012) The implied contract in this case occurred when Dillon interviewed for the new position. At first, she was told by the Human Resource manager that her extensive training would include time with her predecessor. In addition, the vice president, her immediate supervisor, reassured her that her predecessor would be brought ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Conflict is defined as a process that begins when one party perceives another party has or is about to negatively affects something the first party cares about (Robbins Judge, 2013). It is also believed that it is possible for someone to move into an authoritative position due to avoiding conflict, but their advancement usually stalls. In the past, I worked for a busy organization as an administrative assistant. I also worked along with three other administrative assistants in my department. We worked well as a group, were able to manage conflict, and had trust in one another. What I admired about our group was that we were all cross trained and were able to fill in for each other whenever it was needed. There was one administrative assistant in our group whose productivity level was superior and always went the extra mile to keep the boss satisfied. She never complained or argued and hardly showed any emotions. During staff meetings, she kept quiet never voicing any of her concerns. Analysis Meanwhile, I have witnessed on my job my co worker move up within the company due to avoiding conflict. The boss decided to promote her from administrative assistant to office manager. She was well liked, eager to please, and avoided conflict and confrontation. She was also a hard worker in which was what the boss really admired of her. Upon the completion of this paper you will understand who was set to benefit (gain) from anti legislation and who loses under the intentions of the antitrust laws today and in the past. LITERATURE REVIEW The United States antitrust legislation is a legislation designed to break up and prevent the formation of new monopolies to increase competition and societal welfare. Thus the United State Antitrust law is a collection of both state and federal government laws enacted to promote fair competition in the economy. The antitrust laws main statutes consist of the Sherman Act of 1890, the Clayton Act of 1914 and the Federal Trade Commission Act of 1914. In combination these acts have enforced the proper rules and regulations that businesses must conform to today to ensure that there is a healthy competition within the economy to not only the benefit of the consumers who utilize these services and goods but for the health of the businesses who make up our market industries. These statistics show that slavery is still alive and flourishing throughout the entire world. When humans are exchanged, exploited, and forced into prostitution, and involuntary labor, it is called human trafficking. Human trafficking is a very serious problem which has been going on for centuries; I believe spreading awareness is imperative to solving this ongoing problem. There has been many government attempts to try to alleviate this problem in the past with the Emancipation Proclamation, the Thirteenth Amendment, Out of the 20.9 million people that are enslaved in the world, more than 70 percent are female and half are children (Human trafficking statistics).
