Narcissistic Personality Disorder Essay examples
We all love ourselves. That seems to be such a true statement that we do not bother to look it as a
possible disorder. A person who loves himself is one thing but one who loves his reflection is another.
A healthy person will love himself and his accomplishments. That person is all around happy and
satisfied with himself. On the other hand one who is in love with his reflection is cause for narcissism.
One who depends on the existence of a reflection to produce the emotion of self love. It also makes it
impossible for the person to tell himself what is reality or what is fantasy. The narcissist does possess
the desire to love and to be loved. If he cannot love himself, he has love his reflection. Narcissist are

the need for admiration, and lack empathy, that will be present in early adulthood.
The hospitalization of patients with severe Narcissistic Personality occurs frequently. Hospitalizations
should be brief, and the treatment specific to the particular symptom involved. Another group of
patients for whom hospitalization is indicated, provided long term residential treatment, are those who
have poor motivation for outpatient treatment, fragile relationships, destructive acting out, and fast
paced life styles. An inpatient program can offer an intensive treatment which includes individual
psychotherapy, family involvement, and a specialized environment. The structure is physically and
emotionally secure enough to keep a patient with severe ego weakness throughout the course of
expressive, conflict solving psychotherapy.
Small patient groups within the wards, along with large community meetings, there feelings are shared
and patients comments taken seriously, and work assignments, recreational activities, are assigned to
make the hospital less like a quot;holding quot; environment. .
The patient s idea of the physician is in contrast to the narcissistic patient s contempt, and disregard
for the physician, who is keeping a sense of superiority over illness. Only the most senior physician in

Themes Between The Cult Of Game Hunting By British...
I believe the pairing of themes between the cult of game hunting by British imperialist and the
colonization of foreign lands is exhaustive. Racial Superiority or the taming of barbarians might be
used an argument for the eradication for species in certain areas (ironically as Collins points out, areas
often named for the creatures now conspicuously absent). The exploitation of the natural resources by
hunters could be likened to the wanton consumption of valuable resources in India whereby the
concern for the plight of the indigenous was not a concern. Social, political and of course economic
motives are also actively portrayed. The rise of the industrial revolution foreshadowed disaster for any
colonial territories. Valuable resources such as raw materials, crops, mineral even manual labor were
exploited by the European interlopers. The value of the fauna was assessed, dominated and capitalized
on, like any other resource. The callous manner in which Cummings engages his pray and his
unabridged depiction of his indeference to their subsequent suffering might also explain the deplorable
attitude which must have been needed to subjugate the indigenous people of the territories ruled by
imperialism. There exists an air of bravado and machismo which is used to justify atrocities such as
the corporal punishment and maiming of the natives, as if they were comparable to livestock of the
period.
The imperialist hunters pushing out further away from the colonies to find

South Korean War Analysis
On September 28, 1950, the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment arrived in Pusan, South
Korea in what would be Australia s major contribution in the war effort against invading forces from
the north of the Korean peninsula, to the Korean People s Army (KPA). Following Prime Minister Sir
Robert Menzies endorsement of UNSC Resolution 82, this would see the beginning of a three year
conflict in which Australia would commit 17,000 troops and suffer over 300 fatalities, only five years
after the end of the Second World War, (AWM, 2016) . In what was predicated as Australia s
commitment to providing peacekeeping troops for the United Nations to preserve the freedom of
South Koreans, the Korean War would eventually play a fundamental role in solidifying Australia s
shift in vital military alliances, in particular the post WWII development of the United States in
surpassing the United Kingdom as a key protector of Australia.
Whilst the invasion of South Korea by North Korean troops might not have presented a direct threat to
Australian security interests, in can be seen that the development of the conflict heightened ... Show

The Plan For The Group Adventure
For our group adventure, we did something that no one would expect. After considering Professor
Carly s recommendation, we decide to go with it. We decide to meet up before class on Wednesday at
the nearby Starbucks. But, we met at Starbucks an hour before class, which is 0700 am. It was the
only option for all of us since there wasn t any time slot that is available for all of us. It was really
tough waking up for the group adventure, but it was fun. While drinking coffee and eating breakfast,
we get to know more about each other and we got close very well. Other than meeting at Starbucks,
we get together again at Walter Library, where we discussed for our upcoming group presentation.
There, we discussed various of things, and cleared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, while making for our group presentation, I recommend to the group using Prezi, which
is an online based presentation slide. Although it was my responsibility in making the slide look good
during the presentation, I decided that we all should have the chance to edit the slide, and make it look
good, rather than I doing it by myself, therefore, by doing that way, there won t be any superiority
feeling towards one another. Another concepts is Group Cohesiveness. Having a good bond within the
group members is a must, since it will allow us all to work more efficiently, resulting higher quality of
result. Building cohesiveness is like bringing us together. The main strategic to build group
cohesiveness are encouraging compatible membership, develop shared goals, accomplish task,
develop a positive history of cooperation, and promote acceptance of group members (80). During our
group adventure, we developed our group cohesiveness very well. Our first meeting was very
awkward, we encourage one another, talk about where we came from. During our first meeting at
Starbucks, we enjoy each other s company where we talk about life, school, traveling, and work
experiences. We shared the same goal from the beginning where we all aim to get good grades from
this class through the small group projects. Our first time working together is when preparing our
group adventure presentation. We work very cooperatively, dividing jobs within one another,

Health At Stake . There Has Been A Recent Event Where The
Health at Stake There has been a recent event where the House of Republicans defunded an
organization for one whole year, which can save many lives. People rely heavily on Planned
Parenthood, being the nation s health care provider, as it provides them with reproductive health
benefits. These benefits include, but are not limited to, access to contraception, cancer screenings, and
basic preventative care. However, there are numerous amounts of people who concur with the decision
to defund this organization. This issue is highly debated as Planned Parenthood provides abortions.
Sometimes people fail to notice all other benefits provided by the organization and the consequences
of defunding Planned Parenthood, when they encounter abortion. ... Show more content on

In an article on the website, Teen Vogue, they share stories of ten young women, where they explain
how Planned Parenthood made a difference in their lives and why it s so important the doors stay
open, demonstrating the feelings of comfort young women may find in Planned Parenthood. If
protection is not easily accessible to these women, it could lead to unwanted pregnancy and perhaps
abortion. Keep in mind that Planned Parenthood is also a place to prevent abortions, which is why
they provide easy access to contraception and offer family planning. Without Planned Parenthood,
there could be an increase in unplanned pregnancies among age groups, especially teenagers. In a
Planned Parenthood study, 80% of the clients receive services to prevent unintended pregnancy and
they prevent about 516,000 unintended pregnancies each year, this demonstrates that Planned
Parenthood is needed and has been doing a superior job in preventative care, in terms of pregnancies.
According to an article in Time magazine, The Congressional Budget Office estimates that thousands
of women on Medicaid would end up having children they would not otherwise have had if Planned
Parenthood funding is cut, which displays how women rely on Planned Parenthood for family
planning. Many women who become pregnant unintentionally end up aborting the fetus, but calling to
defund this organization, women may undergo life threatening methods for terminating their
pregnancy ( Do

Analysis Of The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao
The Faceless Man Throughout Junot Diaz s novel The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, the Man
Without a Face is a recurring character with no evident features. All of his scenes include an event in
which he is either a mysterious spectator watching the distress around himself or joins in on the
torture. His appearances throughout the story are suggestive of evil or violent incidents that are about
to occur. More times than not, the acts are performed by Trujillo s men. Almost consistently, he
emerges whenever one of the main characters is in great discord. The faceless man symbolizes the
foreshadowing of malicious occurrences caused by Fukú. Fukú is a prevalent theme throughout the
novel and is portrayed through the faceless man. The Washington Post speaks of their interview with
Diaz and stated, Fuku americanus Diaz explains, is generally a curse or a doom of some kind;
specifically the Curse and the Doom of the New World. It seems especially contagious and deadly in
the Dominican Republic, where it is believed that the arrival of Europeans on Hispaniola unleashed
the Fukú on the world. (Review: It s a Wonderful Life 4). Fukú is shown through the many horrific
events that are shown throughout. Trujillo is believed to be able to put the curse on whoever he
chooses for many generations to follow. In the news article Fukú Americanus, Deresiewicz states, The
white man s advent, the narrator tells us, released a demon into the world: Fukú americanus, the Curse

Significance Of The Mustard Seed Parable
Significance of the Growing Seed and Mustard Seed Parables
The growing and mustard seed parables expound upon the soils parable provided earlier in the book of
Mark. Once the suitability of the soils is described, the human and divine roles in the process of
growing the kingdom of God are interpreted. Subsequently the inevitable harvest and abundant growth
of the kingdom of God is depicted.
Human Responsibility
As described in the growing seed parable, the sower has no divine identity in the text. This is
evidenced with the use of the term used, man , and the activity, or the lack of activity, by the sower
after the seed is spread upon the ground. The sower is described as sleeping during the night and
displays no activity during the day toward the seed (4:27). The lack of divine identity of the sower is
also evidenced with the provision that as the seed begins to grow, he himself does not know how
(4:27). It is not logical to argue that an omniscient God would not understand how a seed would grow.
Notwithstanding, it is logical to determine that a human sower does not ... Show more content on

Jesus connects the inevitable growth of the seed by the power of God in preceding parable and the
growth of the mustard. The growth of the mustard seed is symbolic of the spread of God s word and
the growth of the kingdom. Though at the time of the parable being taught the kingdom would seem
minuscule to the small rag tag group of disciples, inevitably the kingdom would grow to a glorious
stature with the climax arriving at Christ s second coming when the kingdom surpasses all others in
power, glory, and majesty . The mustard seed displays the small beginnings of the kingdom,
something the disciples being taught by Jesus would recognize, into the picture of the inevitable
eschatological victory of

The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air Analysis
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air (1960 1996) first aired on NBC in (IMDB). This show focuses on a
wealthy Californian family who takes in their street smart relative from West Philadelphia. Their idea
is to make him a mature and responsible young man but things don t go as smooth as planned. Will
Smith changes the serenity of the upscale environment with his streetwise common sense. A typical
show contains some sort of cultural clash between Will, his uncle Phil and society itself. Learning how
to transition from being in a rough neighborhood to being around people who have a lot of money can
be hard for anybody and there are many things one has to get used to with this transition. Even though
Will becomes part of an affluent family he must still cope with everyday problems and situations.

Each one of these people have their own personalities before Will comes and when does come he sort
of changes them all in some way shape or fashion. For instance before will came Geoffrey who is the

will comes along I guess he opened Geoffrey s eyes and made him see that he was an African
American and he didn t deserve to be treated like a slave after all the years of fighting for freedom his
ancestors went through. Another example of Will changing somebody would be how before he got
there Carlton was a good guy and never disobeyed his parents. Will showed Carlton that life was all
about making mistakes and that he needed to stop living like his was afraid and start living like each
day was his last. I guess you can say Will Smith showed everybody who watched the show something;
and that is that even when you have a rough past behind you, it s never too late to learn how to better

In the summer of 2015, I traveled to the K2 mountain. It is ranked as one of the highest mountains in
the world second only to Mount Everest. My trip to the mountain, which stands between the borders
of China and Pakistan, was both insightful and inspiring. The mountain s vast and undisturbed
landscapes were stunning and majestic, yet perilous and destructive. The journey opened my eyes to
the allure and awesome power of nature and its difficult relationship with humanity.
At night time, I went exploring with my family the landscape. Even though it was dusk, animals were

were killed each day. From my point of view, the death of humans was catching up to the death rates
of the animals because nature during global warming is very unstable which causes most of the deaths
near the mountains. The K2 mountain has lakes and rivers surrounding it which started flooding in
July of 2010 because of global warming and an excess amount of rain. The floods wreaking havoc on
the livelihoods, homes, and lives of the people residing there. Each day I was there the weather varied
from it being cool, rainy, to freezing. People want to be like nature: having beauty, being good, and
having quality traits, but they also come with nature s downfalls. I wouldn t have even guessed that
people lived here if there hadn t been bridges and shepherds walking around. Nature is so many
things, but ultimately its a thing of such beauty. Untouched landscapes could show you just how
beautiful nature is without human interference, seducing you with its beauty. Food for the animals
were scarce as well for the poor. I saw these band of orphans, deep in the mountains who were
starving, I could tell by their gaunt faces. It hurt to see such a sight, the only food I had on myself at

Similarities And Differences Between Softball And Baseball
Strike! Safe! Foul Ball! You re out! These are just a few of the terms one would hear while attending a
ball game. Add a hot dog and peanuts and you are now a fan of a time honored tradition by many
Americans. A tradition that many fans look forward to watching in hopes that the players will hit one
over the fence while they are in attendance. Many people enjoy playing the game more so than they do
watching it. However, the game is not always the same for the players. Some players call themselves
softball players while others consider themselves baseball players. Is there a difference?
Both sports are very similar as they both require four bases, the shape of a diamond, a glove, a bat, a
ball, innings, three outs, and nine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Baseball bats have a maximum length of 42 inches, but lengths over 34 inches is not a common
practice (Stamp, 2013). The difference between the weight and the length of a bat is referred to as the
drop. If a bat s weight is 24 ounces and its length is 34 inches, the bat would have a 10 drop or be
referred to as a drop 10 ( The Differences Between Baseball Softball, n.d.). For high school baseball
and up, the bats maximum drop is usually 3 , while softball maximum drop is 12 ounces and may not
be greater than a 8 drop difference ( The Differences Between Baseball Softball, n.d.). The shape of a
baseball bat compared to a softball bat is also very different. The softball bat, also called a bottle bat
because of its slender shape, has a maximum diameter of 2 ¼ inches while baseball bats have a
maximum diameter requirement of 2 ¾ inches ( The Differences Between Baseball Softball , n.d.).
Softball bats tend to be made of composite materials or various metal, in addition to metals and
composite materials, some baseball bats are made of wood.
From the first pitch at a baseball or softball game, it is immediately recognized that the pitching styles
are very different between the two sports. A pitcher in softball throws the ball underhand while a
pitcher in baseball throws the ball overhand (Mann, 2011). Both are pitched from a mound located in

Music Education Should Be Taught In All Schools
Music education should be taught in all schools. A quality music education program offers a variety of
positive influences on children of all ages (President s Committee on Arts and the Humanities).
Studies have shown that playing an instrument activates all areas of the brain, which can increase test
scores and even focus throughout the day. Student s participation in music education programs offer a

School systems must hire at least one music educator, have a dedicated classroom, practice facilities,
and access to musical instruments, a music library, uniforms, and a variety of other essential items in
order to have a quality program. It can be very expensive in the beginning, and there are always
maintenance costs along the way. I would argue that the benefits that are gained by having a quality
program are worth the cost to the school district. I would also argue that much of the money can be
found in other ways than from the school district. Our high school band does not receive any money
from the school district for anything other than the fact that our two band directors are both Okaloosa
County employees. During football season, our boosters sell football programs, and work the

Shylock as a Villian or Victim in The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare
The Merchant Of Venice is the story of Antonio, a merchant, borrowing money from Shylock, a
Jewish moneylender, in order to fund his best friend Bassanio s romantic ambitions. Like the majority
of the habitants of Venice, Antonio is Christian. At the time of the play, the sixteenth century, there
was a huge abhorrence against those who were not Christian. As Antonio needed money quickly he
had no alternative to borrowing from Shylock; Jewish moneylenders made profit from charging
interests. Christians were resentful towards Jews as they were very successful with their businesses.

This is very villainous. He also disagrees with Antonio s business methods. He lends out money gratis
and brings down the rate of usance. He does not like the fact that Antonio lends money in order to aid
others, without personally gaining anything. This portrayal is that Shylock is a money grabbing Jew, a
stereotypical view held by many.
Shylock, addressing the audience about Antonio, says I will feed fat the ancient grudge I bear him .
Here he is saying that he has an old rivalry with Antonio and wants to gain revenge for what has
happened in past encounters between the two. He doesn t go into much detail about what has
happened previously but does conclude by saying Cursèd be my tribe if I forgive him . He says he will
never forgive Antonio no matter what will transpire between them.

that charging interest is immoral but Shylock is quick to reply. The devil can cite Scripture for his

Love Stories In Disney
Since 1937, Disney films have been ruining the lives of children. From ideas like raising the dead with
love or receiving advice from talking animals. Disney is turning society into idiots. The corporation,
Disney manipulates children into gullible idiots through their own imaginations with unrealistic love
stories, absences of science and morals of good versus evil. Although love is seen as ideal in society,
Disney has warped it into a classic boy saves girl. This is a universal theme for most classic Disney
films such as Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White, etc. Moreover, Disney has used saving damsels in

how women, especially little girls see their happy ever after. Disney s love stories always carry some

magic is emphasised to add to the plot line, such as genies, fairy godmothers, shapeshifting, true love s

The Conflict Of Ethnic Civil War
In the following I will assess the methodologies both studies employ and the way they proceed with
the differing datasets as this forms another part of the reason why they reach different conclusions.
In his analysis Kaufmann finds that eight ethnic civil wars have been resolved by negotiated
agreements other than partition. This would ultimately speak against his finding that no ethnic civil
war has ever been resolved by a power sharing agreement. However, he contends that all these eight
cases have in fact depended on grants of full or partial autonomy to a regionally concentrated ethnic
group and were therefore based on physical separation rather than shared power. For this assertion
however, he does not try to find any proof and thus, it is hard to follow Kaufmann s argument in this
matter. In contrast to that, Mason Fett view such cases as negotiated settlements. This indicates the
fundamental theoretical disagreement between the two studies whether negotiated settlements must be
based on granting autonomy to geographically concentrated ethnic minorities. Whereas Kaufmann
definitely accepts this as being true, Mason Fett are not quite as certain. They say that negotiated
settlements can take the form of federal or consociational arrangements... (Mason Fett, 1996:554) and
thereby acknowledging that partition and regional autonomy does not have to be the ultimate solution.
This disagreement is quite interesting and simultaneously controversial. However even though

Essay on Case Study Gi Joe
Situational Analysis Hasbro Inc. owns the very successful brand, G.I. Joe that is an icon in the toy
industry. G.I. Joe has been a dominate factor in the market for toys since its launch in 1964. The brand
has been able to stand the test of time and its creators have successfully preserved the brand
throughout the years. Hasbro s challenge is to market the G.I. Joe brand in such a way, so that it can
become a mega brand like its competitor Mattel with its mega brand Barbie. The toy market has
volatile sales depending upon trends created by consumer demand. The market is also very seasonal in

Joe brand, as well as its other brands. The advertisements have driven sales for the toy industry
because of the ability to reach large numbers of prospective consumers at the same time. Children
watch the commercials that flood the television and desire the toys that are featured in these
advertisements. The advertisements on television and print are expensive, but the return on investment
is measurable and the method has proven effective for decades. This option should not be pursued by
itself because consumers are more sophisticated in their search for goods and services, even children
search websites to obtain product information and rely on online communities to shape their opinions
of consumer products. Hasbro Inc. also has the option of marketing G.I. Joe with additional material
included, such as a short movie on DVD. This option is good because it will expose newer generations
to G.I. Joe s storyline and create new excitement about the product line. Production costs for the DVD
option could also prove to be expensive for Hasbro Inc. and possibly not accomplish its full intent.
This option could spark interest in the product, but should not be pursued because it would not fully
integrate the brand into its target market. Hasbro Inc. also has the option of continuing to ride the
success of its iconic brand and not pursue any additional plans of action. G.I. Joe has brand
recognition tantamount to few others in the toy industry. The product line is

Why Did Suzanne Lenglen Breaks Wimbledon Record
Suzanne Lenglen Breaks Wimbledon Record (1925)
There are moments in time that people remember, but there are also moments that people forget. One
of these moments is when Suzanne Rachel Flore Lenglen won the 31 Championship in 1914 1926 or
when she broke the Wimbledon Record in 1925. She was the first female tennis celebrity and one of
the first international female sport stars. She was named La Divine by the French. She is by far one of
the best in history to play female tennis. She has 241 titles, a 181 match winning streak, and a 341 7

During this period, Lenglen only defeat in singles occurred in an unscheduled appearance at the 1921

The As A Member Of Ancient Roman Society
As a member of Ancient Roman society there are many things I have to look forward to. There s
always music being played, people gallivanting in the street, beautiful things being built, and
wonderful art work popping up all over the place. One other thing I always get to look forward to is
that today someone will die. I know it seems a bit morbid to say that but it s my job. If people didn t
die I wouldn t make money out of it. I m a mourner. I get paid by families of the deceased to make a
scene, so to say, at a funeral. Each and every day when I wake up the first thing I do is go to the crier
to find out if anyone has died. Once I find out the name of the deceased I find their family and discuss
with them if they need my service or not. It s not every single time I have to search for the dead. There
have been multiple occasions where the family knows that I m a mourner and they seek me out while
their loved one is on their death bed and once that person dies they come back to me and tell me it s
time that they need my services. It s very rare that I get turned away. Even the poorest of the poor
families want at least one of us. It is believed that by us causing such a fuss that someone has died that
it will keep the spirit happy and they won t haunt the world of the living. If the family decides to hire
me, and it s very rare that they don t, I get the information I need about when the service will be held

A Research Study On Finance And Economics
Two years ago while I offered a research job at Cambridge in applied economics, one of my friends
jokingly quipped that one day I would be the next Raghuram Rajan, who had just taken over as the
Governor of the Reserve Bank of India following his academic position. I smiled as I had then not
considered the possibility of becoming an academic who could wield such power in designing policies
to govern the financial institution of the world s largest democracy. In retrospect, this does not seem
very far from the truth with respect to my long term career goals. I consider it a privilege to contribute
meaningful work that would improve the financial standards in my country. My interest in a
quantitative field like finance and economics comes as no surprise, since Mathematics is one of my
favorite subjects and my forte right from secondary school. The power of these subjects to cater to
practical applications in the real world setting led to my close involvement with them, which was also
instrumental for my qualifying for the Indian National Mathematics Olympiad. For my undergraduate
studies, I chose Mechanical Engineering over the other options, at one of the top universities for this
discipline in my country, due to its significant quantitative content and for the possibility of applying
those tools to solving complex problems, which I did. The rigorous pure math training spanning 3

A New Paradigm On The Open Market System Essay
Introduction
In this paper, we will analyze a new paradigm that is emerging recently around the religious
institutions, the whole crux of which lies in the fact that the organized religion thrives in the open
market system. The paper is further divided into six sections: literature, theory, hypothesis, method,
findings of the study, and the discussion.
Theory and Hypothesis
The sociology of the religion has been seen to be undergoing a period of change, or a paradigm shift.
Are the American kids growing up to have a different religious inclination than the kids a generation
or two ago? Religious inclination can include acknowledgement of belonging to a certain religion,
performing religious practices, attending the religious ceremonies and services, spirituality, religious
donations and charities, and approving of religious organizations (Pargament, 1997). Although the
religious affiliation for all is an important factor to be considered, the affiliation among the
adolescents particularly takes away a significant share of importance. Religious affiliation among kids
is believed to bring about a number of positive outcomes including better physical health, less drug
abuse, better social conditioning and functioning, and fewer risk related behaviors. The kids who are
more religiously inclined are also believed to have less signs of anxiety and depression and display a
strong character (Markstorm, 1999). However, if not handled properly, religion can also drive in the
feelings

The Transcontinental Railroad In The 19th Century
The Transcontinental railroad could be interpreted as the most memorable change in America in the
19th century. The railroad played an important role in the westward expansion and on the progression
and development for the American economy. When America had acquired the West, the need for
adequate transportation rose considerably. Suggestions dispersed about a railroad that would scope
across the continent from East to West. Republican congresses ruled for the federal funding of railroad
construction, however, all actions were on a standstill for a few years because of the Civil War. In the
wake of the American Civil War of 1861 1865, the rush to put together the transcontinental railroad
went underway in 1866. President Abraham Lincoln permitted the Pacific Railway Act of 1862,
allowing two railroad companies the right to construct the first ever American transcontinental
railroad. While there are several industries, which have left an indelible mark on California and may

Speech On Owning A Kitten
Across the globe, cats are admired as loyal and entertaining house pets. While some pet owners prefer
fostering an adult cat, most feel it would be best to own a kitten, mainly since they are so adorable. Yet
simple steps must be followed, such as making your home secure, collecting supplies, and keeping an
eye on your kitten. No matter the breed, appearance, or size of your kitten, all require care. Despite the
large amount of money you will spend purchasing your kitten, your currency will be well spent on a
fun, new housepet. While it can be a challenge at times, make sure you follow specific guidelines and
you will succeed with your new pet.
Just like with a human baby, kitten proofing your house is an easy, quick process. Firstly, secure any
sharp objects, such as knives or forks, to prevent your pet from impaling itself. Since cats are very
curious, especially at a young age, ensure toilet bowls are closed; your kitten could fall in and be
unable to escape. Cover sharp corners of tables or chairs. Lastly, restrict other pets, such as dogs,

Record any abnormal actions; for example, if it occasionally scratches or bites at its fur, it may be a
sign of fleas, tiny bugs that latch to the pelts of mostly dogs and cats and give them a very problematic

it does this to you. If their habit gets too severe, you could purchase a small scratching post and teach
your kitten to claw at it. Never harm your kitten if it does bite or scratch; you could intimidate it or
possibly injure it, making it difficult to bond. For example, when your cat makes a mistake in learning
a trick, encourage it to try again. As one of the steps essential to maintaining a kitten, observation of
behavior is

Distribution Channel Margins form an important component of the distribution cost which directly
affects the bottom line of any company. While the companies are trying to reduce the distribution
costs, to improve their own margin pressures, there seem to be little innovations in this area.
The margins offered to the distribution channel members by most of the companies are fixed in

2. Distributor s Cost: The above model does not consider the cost of running the business of the
Distributor. Due to diverse nature of the Indian markets, cost of running a distribution business differs
from market to market. Some markets may have higher concentration of retailers in few places
whereas some markets offer scattered locations of retailers, thereby affecting the transportation cost.
In highly populous markets, the speed of credit cycle may be high as compared to less populous
markets, thereby affecting the working capital requirement. The congestion on the urban roads,
distribution time, manpower requirement, average order quantity, etc. also need customized
considerations. 3. Return on Investment: When the margins are standardized, the ROI calculation is
totally dependent on the volumes of business. Executives often inflate the targeted volume of business
to meet the ROI expectations of the distributors. Many times, such inflated targets are unrealistic and
unachievable, resulting in loss to the distributor. This results in loss of trust and goodwill of the firm
and higher attrition rate of the distributors. 4. Firm s Marketing Strategy: A Firm may change its

The First Failure Of The Settlement Of Roanoke Colony
It started in 1583. Sir Humphrey Gilbert organized the enterprise. He ended up drowning while
attempting to colonize St. John s, Newfoundland. Sir Walter Raleigh, his half brother, was chosen to
take over. On March 25, 1584, Raleigh was granted a charter by Queen Elizabeth I to colonize in
North America. The first colony was established in 1584 on Roanoke Island, what is now Dare
County, North Carolina, but over the course of two years they went through some hardships. They
thought the native village of Aquascogoc stole a silver cup, and thus attacked the village. They
remained anyway, even with the lack of food, and some men went back to England to grab more
troops and supplies. In the meantime, from attacking the native village, the colonists were attacked,
but able to repel said attack. When Sir Francis Drake stopped by on the way back and volunteered to
take the colonists back to England, they agreed, leaving behind a couple men to protect Raleigh s

Fair Trade Coffee Offers a Solution to the Coffee Crisis

few students know what it means. Currently, farmers in Brazil and Vietnam grow the majority of

As a result, wholesale coffee prices are at their lowest levels in 100 years. Back in 1997, unroasted
coffee beans that had a wholesale price of $2 a pound dipped to under 50 cents a pound in 2002, a
price below many farmers production cost. Since farmers couldn t afford the proper working
conditions, the beans would be grown using the twelve most health threatening types of pesticide.
Furthermore, With low prices, farmers tend to reduce inputs and take less care of the trees. In some
cases this means that it is easier to cut down forest for plantations rather than care for existing ones,
said Néstor Osorio, executive director of the ICO (Roach). The farmers could not afford to improve
organic growing conditions and develop higher quality coffee beans. It directly reduces the range of
quality and varieties of coffee we are obtaining! According to Liam Brody, a program coordinator for
Oxfam America in Boston, the situation was so adverse that hundreds of thousands of coffee farmers
in Africa and Central and South America have lost their jobs as farmland is converted to other
agricultural uses such as livestock grazing or the cultivation of illicit drugs (Roach).

Some parents often wonder, what, if any, effect birth order will have on their children s personalities.
Genetic factors and other influences play a significannot role, but the birth order within the family
plays a larger role in determining the personality of children. Countless academic studies say your
place in the family is such a strong factor in developing your personality that it can have a major

It can cause a lot of stress on the child. Some of the solutions that Wallace suggested was to be alert to
the child s reaction when a new baby is brought home. Address the feelings that the child has about
the birth of the new sibling right then to prevent hostility, anger and resentment later on. Parents
should treat the kids equally, neither will feel resentment for the other nor be able to claim that one is
getting special treatment (Payton). Middle children are often left feeling like the odd one out, not
having the attachment to their parents that their older sibling has but also not being the baby of the
family, who gets the attention heaped on them. This often provokes attention seeking behavior and can
lead to depression or even paranoia in later life (Udall). Many middle children feel overshadowed by
their older and younger siblings. Their efforts to compensate often affect their personality
development ( Parenting Children ). With parents less available to them than to first born, middle
children seem to be more laid back in achievement and more relaxed. Sometimes they need to be
manipulative to satisfy their needs and are good diplomats and quite friendly ( Birth order and your

for identity as a middle child will depend on the sex of the child. If

Trusted Computing Group Analysis
Is one of Trusted Computing Group (TCG) specifications to measure, store and report hardware and
software integrity through a hardware root of trust. MTM is a security factor in mobile devices checks
all software and applications each time the underlying platform starts. MTM has very constraints such
as circuit area, as well as available power. Therefore, a MTM needs the spatially optimized
architecture and design method to guarantees the integrity of a mobile platform [29].

D. Single Sign On (SSO)
Most users have multiple accounts in various Service Providers with different usernames and
passwords which in turn leads to lost productivity and apply more overhead on administrators. So,
there is a need to use the SSO technique in which an authorized user uses only a single action of
authentication to access all related systems or applications of same trust domain [34]. In cloud based
SSO system the central authentication server hides a multiplicity of user s account information into a
single account to be sent to the needed server of the system or application whenever the user intends
to use it [35]. The concept of SSO can be deployed within an Intranet, Extranet or Internet using
Token or PKI based SSO protocols for single credentials or set of other protocols for multiple
credentials as declared in the following Figure:
Binu et al. [34] Proposed a Cloud authentication model with Single Sign on (SSO) functionality that
uses a password and mobile token stored within a mobile phone as the authentication factors. This
model uses a Secure Access Markup Language SAML protocol running on the authentication server to
support access across multiple domains.
2 Factor Authentication (2FA) is more suitable with principles of cloud authentication. A user sends
his username and password as the first factor to the cloud server for authentication. The cloud server
asks the user to send

Lee Harvey s Assassination
Lee Harvey Oswald was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 18, 1939, and was raised in
Bronx, New York. Since his mother worked long shifts, young Oswald was mostly left on his own.
Usually spending time in the library or playing hooky in his eighth grade classes. Oswald was
eventually put into detention, where his social worker described him as emotionally detached like a
kid that nobody cared about Later in life Oswald began to show an interest in the socialist literature,
that he used to read about in New York. He joined the U.S. Marines in 1956 and became a good
marksman, but was martialed twice for having an illegal weapon and displaying violent behavior. He
later ended his military service and traveled to Moscow where he informed russian authorities that he
wanted to join the Soviet Union. Dissatisfied with life in the Soviet Union, Oswald left a year after
marrying Marina Prusakova in 1961, bringing her and their newborn daughter with him. Their young
family set up a home in Dallas Texas, and Oswald took up the alias of Alex J. Hidell. In 1963 he
ordered a .38 handgun and later a rifle via ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But what Ruby didn t know, was that the officers weren t done interrogating Oswald, leaving them
with many unanswered questions. Oswald s motive is one of the bigger mysteries that comes to mind,
as he constantly expressed to his family and friends that he admired Kennedy as a person and a
politician. Many people over the years have theorized as to what Oswald s motive was, from being
hired by the FBI, to his love for communism. But in the end the most plausible motive was that he did
it to get his name in the history books, and I guess you could say that he succeeded, but only in death.
Oswald s funeral was a few days after Kennedy s but only his wife and mother

some fundamental conditions must be present. The client must be anxious or incongruent and in
contact with the therapist. Therapists must be genuine, whereby their words, nonverbal mannerisms
and feelings are not to be contradicting. In addition, they must also accept the client and show
unconditional care towards them. The therapist must understand the client s thoughts, the ideas,
experiences, and feelings, when communicating back this empathic understanding
(Murdock, 2009).
Firstly, congruence (genuineness or realness) refers to the therapist s openness, genuineness and the
willingness to relate to clients without hiding behind a professional front.
Therapists who conduct sessions with this sincerity in mind have all their feelings available to them in
therapy sessions and may share significant emotional reactions with their clients.
However, congruence does not mean that therapists shift the focus of therapy to themselves in any
way or have a predetermined direction, or impose a professional agenda to their clients during
sessions. [Corey, 2005]

National Health System ( Nhs ) Essay
National Health System (NHS) England (1800words) The National Health System began in 1948 with
the aim to provide free health care for the English thus removing health access inequities. This essay
considers two strengths of the NHS, being free health and locally responsive health care and two
weaknesses being the financial burden and unprecedented pressure on health care resources. One of
the strengths of the NHS England is residents receive free fully funded medical care that includes all
medical treatment, screenings including antenatal, dental, prescriptions, specialist referrals and
optometrists (NHS England, 2016). Furthermore, while being free at point of access, the NHS system
is an efficient, effective, care, safe, coordinated and patient centred system that was ranked number
two worldwide on equity (NHS England, 2016). Free healthcare supports Ham s (2010) claim that
being free at point of entry is a characteristic of a high performing health care system. The benefits of
free healthcare were that everyone was able to get the same medical treatment. The delivery of health
care through Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG s) is another strength. CCG s were created in
2012 following the passing of the Health and Social Care Act, to replace primary care trusts in
2013(NHS England, 2013). Their strength lies in their authority and purpose to provide health care
that is responsive to a geographical area and set patient number. They are clinically led, often by local

The Research Of Second Language Acquisition ( Sla )
INTRODUCTION
The research of second language acquisition (SLA) and its theories surged in the twentieth century. At
a first glance, the definition of SLA may seem clear, however when analysed further it becomes clear
that the subject is a bit more complex. Nevertheless, a good definition of it could be as follows: a
study of ... the way in which people learn a language other than their mother tongue, inside or outside
a classroom. (Ellis, 1997:3) From the 1940s to the 1960s, a psycholinguistic theory known as
behaviourism (stimulus response), was developed, becoming recognised as a legitimate theory behind
SLA. This was a positivist approach towards language learning which involved the interference and
transfer between a speaker s first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By providing a theoretical framework, then going on to discuss the arguments for and against the CA
hypothesis, a conclusion on its reliability will be drawn.
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
In order to fully understand the reasons for which the CA hypothesis has fallen into decline, with
questions of its reliability in being sufficient in the explanation of errors made by L2 learners, it is
necessary to examine other theories behind SLA. Firstly, as aforementioned, behaviourism (and
therewith CA) was one school of thought, popularised by B.F Skinner and John Watson. CA is
explained in Robert Lado s Linguistics Across Cultures (1957, p. 2) in which he asserts that those
elements that are similar to the [learner s] native language will be simple for him, and those areas that
are different will be difficult. By this, Lado meant that errors made in the L2 (by learners) are due to
habits which differed from the structures in their L1 and these errors would thus reflect the L1 s
structure.
However, there is another notable hypothesis which aims to explain the errors made by learners of a
second language, that being Larry Selinker s interlanguage hypothesis. According to Rod Ellis
(1997:33), this was coined in recognition of the fact that, although L2 construct a linguistic system
that does adopt part of the L1 structure, but is also differs from it and also from the target language.
This means that the

Peroxidase Lab Report
In this experiment concerning the activity of enzymes we tested the different effects of various
concentrations, pH, Temperature, and Inhibitors over intervals of time. For the effects of concentration
of enzyme extract, or peroxidase we mixed six of seven tubes to get three different concentrations of
extract. By doing this we wanted to know whether the concentration would positively or negatively
affect the activity of the enzyme, in which we predicted that the concentration would increase the
activity. The three extract concentrations being 0.5ml from the mixing of tubes 2 and 3, 1.0ml from
tube 4 and 5, and 2.00ml from 6 and 7, while the first tube of the seven that wasn t mixed was the
control containing zero extract. The control and the mixed tubes together made 8ml, and was poured
into cubettes to be placed in the spectrometer at an absorbance of 500nm. ... Show more content on

there was a drop in activity visually on the graph due to an outlier of class data. Yet, looking at figure

two minutes in 20 second increments. The slopes of all three lines show that the peroxidase looks
directly proportional in data. Thus, supporting our hypothesis that the concentrations of peroxidase

Language and Syntax in Coriolanus
Take Home Essay Language and Syntax in Coriolanus
As William Shakespeare continued to write and create plays, he became more experiential with his
language and rhetoric within them. Coriolanus, one of Shakespeare s final tragedies, exhibits a distinct
syntax when compared with Titus Andronicus and Othello. Titus Andronicus was one of the first of
Shakespeare s plays and his first tragedy. The play is characterized by classic verses, mainly in the
iambic pentameter form. Shakespeare did not have the experience and artistic freedom he had when
writing Coriolanus; he was emerging in London s theatre scene and played it safe by using a more
traditional syntax structure. The language Shakespeare used in Othello was much more ornate and
extravagant; like Titus Andronicus it is marked by many uninterrupted speeches and soliloquies.
Coriolanus is much more modern like in the syntax than William Shakespeare s preceding tragedy
plays.
The choppiness of the speeches in Coriolanus is very unlike the formal, end stopped, verbose
soliloquies and speeches in both Othello and Titus Andronicus. Both characteristics accomplish
different effects in the plays the great, long speeches in the two tragedies prior to Coriolanus allow the
audience or reader to hear the internal thoughts of the characters. In Act II, Scene IV of Titus
Andronicus, the audience has an opportunity to collect Lavinia s emotion, after her rapists cut her
tongue, by Marcus, her uncle s, long soliloquy after he

Julian English, the main character in Appointment in Samarra by John O Hara, was a very heavy
drinker. Drinking is the main reason for Julian s downfall experiences throughout the story. In the
matter of three days, Julian English manages to make enemies with everyone that was once close with
him. Julian English s first fall was giving a reason for Harry Reilly to turn against him, which was
only the start of his downfalls. Eventually, the drinking then led to an end of his marriage with his
wife, Caroline. Not long after, the drinking, unfortunately, was the reason for Julian to commit suicide.
Julian English was married to his beautiful wife, Caroline English. They lived in the town Gibbsville
and regularly attended the club and parties until Julian throws a drink in Harry s Reilly face. Harry
Reilly was a rich, well know man that lent Julian money the summer before. Julian believed that

something that people never thought would occur. Also, the incident between Julian and Helen was
another things that others on Gibbsville were amused by. Ed Charney was another top man in
Gibbsville. These two main occurrences could recognize Julian English as a tragic hero.
The novel, Appointment in Samarra, was a series of downfall events Julian English experienced that
were all caused by drinking. Although Julian could be considered a tragic hero, the drinking consumed

Traumatic Stress
Most people probably know by now that high levels of unmanaged stress can lead to very serious
physical symptoms and illnesses. But did you know that excessive stress can also cause damaging
changes in your behaviors too, such as stress eating or self harming? These are just two ways in which
people try to stop feeling overwhelmed as stress takes a toll on their lives. But there are many others.
Here are my five best tips to stop stress from ruining your life.
Tip #1 Take Small Steps
Question: How do you eat an elephant? Answer: One bite at a time!
Just like the joke, if you are faced with an enormous task that seems just too hard to do, break it down
into little achievable steps and tackle them one at a time. It s easier to accomplish small goals and
doing so will give you a great sense of achievement. And as you finish each small step, you ... Show

What this means is that everyone always looks to be better off than you (in whatever way you re
thinking about) when see from your perspective, And falling short is one way to pile the stress on. So
to manage your stress levels in these situations, simply stop comparing yourself to everyone you meet.
That way you can never come off worse. And if you don t allow yourself to feel inferior to everyone
you meet, you will soon find your confidence starting to soar.
Tip #3 Get a Furry Friend
Stroking a furry animal has been shown to have such beneficial effects on your stress levels and heart
health that hospitals allow them in to help patients manage their stress, And research has shown that
during a play session with a dog, the owner s and dog s serotonin levels rose and stress levels fell
significantly. Pets can give your mood a much needed lift but if you are allergic to fur, don t worry.
Any pet, even a goldfish can be a great boost after a hard day. Just make sure you repay your pet s
loyalty by looking after it properly.
Tip #4 Laugh

  • 2. Narcissistic Personality Disorder Essay examples We all love ourselves. That seems to be such a true statement that we do not bother to look it as a possible disorder. A person who loves himself is one thing but one who loves his reflection is another. A healthy person will love himself and his accomplishments. • 3. Themes Between The Cult Of Game Hunting By British... I believe the pairing of themes between the cult of game hunting by British imperialist and the colonization of foreign lands is exhaustive. Racial Superiority or the taming of barbarians might be used an argument for the eradication for species in certain areas (ironically as Collins points out, areas often named for the creatures now conspicuously absent). The exploitation of the natural resources by hunters could be likened to the wanton consumption of valuable resources in India whereby the concern for the plight of the indigenous was not a concern. Social, political and of course economic motives are also actively portrayed. The rise of the industrial revolution foreshadowed disaster for any colonial territories. Valuable resources such as raw materials, crops, mineral even manual labor were exploited by the European interlopers. The value of the fauna was assessed, dominated and capitalized on, like any other resource. The callous manner in which Cummings engages his pray and his unabridged depiction of his indeference to their subsequent suffering might also explain the deplorable attitude which must have been needed to subjugate the indigenous people of the territories ruled by imperialism. There exists an air of bravado and machismo which is used to justify atrocities such as the corporal punishment and maiming of the natives, as if they were comparable to livestock of the period. South Korean War Analysis On September 28, 1950, the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment arrived in Pusan, South Korea in what would be Australia s major contribution in the war effort against invading forces from the north of the Korean peninsula, to the Korean People s Army (KPA). Following Prime Minister Sir Robert Menzies endorsement of UNSC Resolution 82, this would see the beginning of a three year conflict in which Australia would commit 17,000 troops and suffer over 300 fatalities, only five years after the end of the Second World War, (AWM, 2016) . In what was predicated as Australia s commitment to providing peacekeeping troops for the United Nations to preserve the freedom of South Koreans, the Korean War would eventually play a fundamental role in solidifying Australia s shift in vital military alliances, in particular the post WWII development of the United States in surpassing the United Kingdom as a key protector of Australia. Without Planned Parenthood, there could be an increase in unplanned pregnancies among age groups, especially teenagers. Once the suitability of the soils is described, the human and divine roles in the process of growing the kingdom of God are interpreted. Subsequently the inevitable harvest and abundant growth of the kingdom of God is depicted. Human Responsibility As described in the growing seed parable, the sower has no divine identity in the text. This is evidenced with the use of the term used, man , and the activity, or the lack of activity, by the sower after the seed is spread upon the ground. The sower is described as sleeping during the night and displays no activity during the day toward the seed (4:27). The lack of divine identity of the sower is also evidenced with the provision that as the seed begins to grow, he himself does not know how (4:27). Disney is turning society into idiots. The corporation, Disney manipulates children into gullible idiots through their own imaginations with unrealistic love stories, absences of science and morals of good versus evil. Although love is seen as ideal in society, Disney has warped it into a classic boy saves girl. This is a universal theme for most classic Disney films such as Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White, etc. Moreover, Disney has used saving damsels in distress to captivate its audience. Thus creating these unimaginable love stories. For example, a prince searches for the maiden Cinderella after she drops her glass slipper (Cinderella). • 21. The Conflict Of Ethnic Civil War In the following I will assess the methodologies both studies employ and the way they proceed with the differing datasets as this forms another part of the reason why they reach different conclusions. In his analysis Kaufmann finds that eight ethnic civil wars have been resolved by negotiated agreements other than partition. This would ultimately speak against his finding that no ethnic civil war has ever been resolved by a power sharing agreement. However, he contends that all these eight cases have in fact depended on grants of full or partial autonomy to a regionally concentrated ethnic group and were therefore based on physical separation rather than shared power. For this assertion however, he does not try to find any proof and thus, it is hard to follow Kaufmann s argument in this matter. In contrast to that, Mason Fett view such cases as negotiated settlements. This indicates the fundamental theoretical disagreement between the two studies whether negotiated settlements must be based on granting autonomy to geographically concentrated ethnic minorities. Whereas Kaufmann definitely accepts this as being true, Mason Fett are not quite as certain. They say that negotiated settlements can take the form of federal or consociational arrangements... The advertisements on television and print are expensive, but the return on investment is measurable and the method has proven effective for decades. This option should not be pursued by itself because consumers are more sophisticated in their search for goods and services, even children search websites to obtain product information and rely on online communities to shape their opinions of consumer products. Hasbro Inc. also has the option of marketing G.I. Joe with additional material included, such as a short movie on DVD. This option is good because it will expose newer generations to G.I. Joe s storyline and create new excitement about the product line. Production costs for the DVD option could also prove to be expensive for Hasbro Inc. and possibly not accomplish its full intent. This option could spark interest in the product, but should not be pursued because it would not fully integrate the brand into its target market. • 28. A New Paradigm On The Open Market System Essay Introduction In this paper, we will analyze a new paradigm that is emerging recently around the religious institutions, the whole crux of which lies in the fact that the organized religion thrives in the open market system. The paper is further divided into six sections: literature, theory, hypothesis, method, findings of the study, and the discussion. Theory and Hypothesis The sociology of the religion has been seen to be undergoing a period of change, or a paradigm shift. Are the American kids growing up to have a different religious inclination than the kids a generation or two ago? Religious inclination can include acknowledgement of belonging to a certain religion, performing religious practices, attending the religious ceremonies and services, spirituality, religious donations and charities, and approving of religious organizations (Pargament, 1997). Although the religious affiliation for all is an important factor to be considered, the affiliation among the adolescents particularly takes away a significant share of importance. Religious affiliation among kids is believed to bring about a number of positive outcomes including better physical health, less drug abuse, better social conditioning and functioning, and fewer risk related behaviors. The kids who are more religiously inclined are also believed to have less signs of anxiety and depression and display a strong character (Markstorm, 1999). Many people over the years have theorized as to what Oswald s motive was, from being hired by the FBI, to his love for communism. But in the end the most plausible motive was that he did it to get his name in the history books, and I guess you could say that he succeeded, but only in death. Oswald s funeral was a few days after Kennedy s but only his wife and mother ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therapists must be genuine, whereby their words, nonverbal mannerisms and feelings are not to be contradicting. In addition, they must also accept the client and show unconditional care towards them. The therapist must understand the client s thoughts, the ideas, experiences, and feelings, when communicating back this empathic understanding (Murdock, 2009). Firstly, congruence (genuineness or realness) refers to the therapist s openness, genuineness and the willingness to relate to clients without hiding behind a professional front. Therapists who conduct sessions with this sincerity in mind have all their feelings available to them in therapy sessions and may share significant emotional reactions with their clients. However, congruence does not mean that therapists shift the focus of therapy to themselves in any way or have a predetermined direction, or impose a professional agenda to their clients during sessions. • 46. National Health System ( Nhs ) Essay National Health System (NHS) England (1800words) The National Health System began in 1948 with the aim to provide free health care for the English thus removing health access inequities. This essay considers two strengths of the NHS, being free health and locally responsive health care and two weaknesses being the financial burden and unprecedented pressure on health care resources. One of the strengths of the NHS England is residents receive free fully funded medical care that includes all medical treatment, screenings including antenatal, dental, prescriptions, specialist referrals and optometrists (NHS England, 2016). Furthermore, while being free at point of access, the NHS system is an efficient, effective, care, safe, coordinated and patient centred system that was ranked number two worldwide on equity (NHS England, 2016). Free healthcare supports Ham s (2010) claim that being free at point of entry is a characteristic of a high performing health care system. The benefits of free healthcare were that everyone was able to get the same medical treatment. The delivery of health care through Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG s) is another strength. CCG s were created in 2012 following the passing of the Health and Social Care Act, to replace primary care trusts in 2013(NHS England, 2013). Their strength lies in their authority and purpose to provide health care that is responsive to a geographical area and set patient number. They are clinically led, often by local ... • 47. The Research Of Second Language Acquisition ( Sla ) INTRODUCTION The research of second language acquisition (SLA) and its theories surged in the twentieth century. At a first glance, the definition of SLA may seem clear, however when analysed further it becomes clear that the subject is a bit more complex. Nevertheless, a good definition of it could be as follows: a study of ... the way in which people learn a language other than their mother tongue, inside or outside a classroom. (Ellis, 1997:3) From the 1940s to the 1960s, a psycholinguistic theory known as behaviourism (stimulus response), was developed, becoming recognised as a legitimate theory behind SLA. This was a positivist approach towards language learning which involved the interference and transfer between a speaker s first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By providing a theoretical framework, then going on to discuss the arguments for and against the CA hypothesis, a conclusion on its reliability will be drawn. THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK In order to fully understand the reasons for which the CA hypothesis has fallen into decline, with questions of its reliability in being sufficient in the explanation of errors made by L2 learners, it is necessary to examine other theories behind SLA. Firstly, as aforementioned, behaviourism (and therewith CA) was one school of thought, popularised by B.F Skinner and John Watson. CA is explained in Robert Lado s Linguistics Across Cultures (1957, p. 2) in which he asserts that those elements that are similar to the [learner s] native language will be simple for him, and those areas that are different will be difficult. By this, Lado meant that errors made in the L2 (by learners) are due to habits which differed from the structures in their L1 and these errors would thus reflect the L1 s structure. However, there is another notable hypothesis which aims to explain the errors made by learners of a second language, that being Larry Selinker s interlanguage hypothesis. According to Rod Ellis (1997:33), this was coined in recognition of the fact that, although L2 construct a linguistic system that does adopt part of the L1 structure, but is also differs from it and also from the target language. This means that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Peroxidase Lab Report In this experiment concerning the activity of enzymes we tested the different effects of various concentrations, pH, Temperature, and Inhibitors over intervals of time. For the effects of concentration of enzyme extract, or peroxidase we mixed six of seven tubes to get three different concentrations of extract. By doing this we wanted to know whether the concentration would positively or negatively affect the activity of the enzyme, in which we predicted that the concentration would increase the activity. The three extract concentrations being 0.5ml from the mixing of tubes 2 and 3, 1.0ml from tube 4 and 5, and 2.00ml from 6 and 7, while the first tube of the seven that wasn t mixed was the control containing zero extract. The control and the mixed tubes together made 8ml, and was poured into cubettes to be placed in the spectrometer at an absorbance of 500nm. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However looking at figure 1 the gray line of the graph pertaining to the concentration of tubes 6 and 7, there was a drop in activity visually on the graph due to an outlier of class data. Yet, looking at figure 2 the reaction rate of looking at the reaction rate or rate of change in the absorbance over the time of two minutes in 20 second increments. The slopes of all three lines show that the peroxidase looks directly proportional in data. Thus, supporting our hypothesis that the concentrations of peroxidase will increase the absorbance of the enzyme and not denature it because factors such as temperature, or pH were not ... • 49. Language and Syntax in Coriolanus Take Home Essay Language and Syntax in Coriolanus As William Shakespeare continued to write and create plays, he became more experiential with his language and rhetoric within them. Coriolanus, one of Shakespeare s final tragedies, exhibits a distinct syntax when compared with Titus Andronicus and Othello. Titus Andronicus was one of the first of Shakespeare s plays and his first tragedy. The play is characterized by classic verses, mainly in the iambic pentameter form. Shakespeare did not have the experience and artistic freedom he had when writing Coriolanus; he was emerging in London s theatre scene and played it safe by using a more traditional syntax structure. The language Shakespeare used in Othello was much more ornate and extravagant; like Titus Andronicus it is marked by many uninterrupted speeches and soliloquies. Coriolanus is much more modern like in the syntax than William Shakespeare s preceding tragedy plays. The choppiness of the speeches in Coriolanus is very unlike the formal, end stopped, verbose soliloquies and speeches in both Othello and Titus Andronicus. Both characteristics accomplish different effects in the plays the great, long speeches in the two tragedies prior to Coriolanus allow the audience or reader to hear the internal thoughts of the characters. In Act II, Scene IV of Titus Andronicus, the audience has an opportunity to collect Lavinia s emotion, after her rapists cut her tongue, by Marcus, her uncle s, long soliloquy after he ...
