Essay On The Parthenon
The years 477 to 431 B.C., saw the city of Athens experiencing a huge growth in intellectual and
artistic learning. This was known as the Golden Age of Athens. The Golden Age was one of the most
memorable in the history of the world. This was a period that introduce drama, music, literature,
architecture, art, and philosophy in Athens. It was a period categorized by such high and diverse levels
of achievement that many astute intellectuals refer to the experience as the Greek miracle . Even those
individuals who did not believe that such miracles can happen actually acknowledge that it is possible
that the Greeks who were very competitive were definitely inspired on a higher level of innovation in
their field by seeing the bar being raised ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This temple was dedicated to the goddess Athena who is the personification of arts and craft. When
construction started on the Parthenon in 447BC, the empire of Athena was at the height pf its power.
Construction on the Parthenon was completed in 432. At that time, the Parthenon represents the
distinct and the noticeable flourishing of Athenian sovereign power, freedom by the devastation of the
Peloponnesian War. Similarly, it stands for the power and influence of the Athenian politician,
Pericles, who advocated for its construction. The Parthenon was designed in the Doric style of
architecture but also have some features from the Ionic and Corinthian style. All four sides of the
temple reflects clarity, reverence, balance, and harmonious proportion. The Parthenon is made up of
freestanding columns on the outside which are thirty four feet tall, with two additional rows of
columns that provide an inner porch. The top portion of the temple is triangular with several sculptors,
including Zeus, Athena, Hera, and the three goddesses. It was painted in bright colors and so was the
sections of the building that were decorated. The east pediment was in honor of the birth of Athena
while the west pediment showcased the contest between Poseidon and Athena for power of Athens.
The inside of the Parthenon is divided into rooms, the cellar which hosts the forty foot statue of

Introduction
1. Where does renal absorption and secretion occur? Renal Tubules 2. Define what happens during
these processes.
a. Absorption: Returns materials to the bloodstream thereby conserving those materials.
b. Secretion: Moves materials from the blood stream into the tubule for eventual disposal. 3. Because
of very high glomerular filtration rates, nearly the entire volume of the blood enters the renal tubules
every 30 minutes. Obviously, most of it must be reabsorbed to avoid ... Show more content on

The major role of primary active transport is to move sodium from the cytosol of the tubule cell into
the surrounding interstitial fluid surrounding the capillary.
b. Describe the role of primary active transport with regard to potassium (K+) and hydrogen (H+) ion
movement. As a secondary function it provides the driving force to move potassium and hydrogen
ions from the interstitial fluid to the filtrate.
c. Why is Na+ movement important with regard to movement across the membrane? The movement
of sodium ions via active transport is to generate an electrochemical gradient between the filtrate and
the interstitial fluid.
8. a. The energy stored in the sodium ion electrochemical gradient is used to transport other molecules
back toward the bloodstream (reabsorption). What nutrients are transported in this fashion? Glucose,
amino acids and other solutes being recovered from the filtrate. b. How does the sodium gradient
affect hydrogen ion movement? Active transport requires chemical energy because it is the movement
of biochemicals from areas of lower concentration to areas of higher concentration.
9. Describe the role of transporter proteins with regard to nutrient movement.
It goes from high to low concentration, in order to maintain equilibrium in the cells. Does not require
cellular energy.
10. Describe ion movement through or between the cell membranes into the interstitial

Mango Street By Sandra Cisneros
In the vignette My Name in the book Mango Street the author, Sandra Cisneros, uses imagery in a
very influential way. Sandra Cisneros doesn t use imagery in just this vignette; it ties into many of the
other vignettes, but in the vignette My Name she uses it to emphasize her sorrow toward what
happened to her great grandmother. The vignette begins with Esperanza explaining what her name
means in English and in Spanish. Also, she clarifies how she was born in the Chinese year of the
horse. Sandra Cisneros also talks about how Esperanza s great grandmother was born in the year of
the horse, same as Esperanza. Esperanza then goes on to explain what happened to her grandmother.

Understanding Stress During Puberty
In this experiment, the author s focused on understanding stress during puberty and the sex specific
differences of the effects on humans through rat models. As we go through puberty, both male and
females have increased levels of sex steroid hormones. In females this causes levels of cortisol to
increase, as well as the probability of developing a mood disorder relating to stress. Past studies have
shown that this is because of the plasticity of the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis (HPA) axis and
the areas of the brain the regulate mood, such as the amygdala. They supported their previous claim
with an experiment that was done on rats where they were subjected to stressful events, known as
juvenile social subjugation (JSS), and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Autoradiography helps to visualize the CRF1 and CRF2 receptors. The sections of the brain were
incubated for 2 hours in a binding chamber that contained 500 mM Astressin 2B and 500mM CP

visualize the CRF2 receptors. The control group of sections of brains was incubated for 2 hours in
0.2nm 125I Sanguine. They were washed then exposed to Kodak Biomax MR film. Next, they
calculated the receptor binding density and background measurements of the lateral dorsal thalamus
and the dorsal striatum. They created heat maps of the brain sections, whose densitometry
measurements were close to the mean, using Photoshop. They performed two way ANOVA and post

within each sex and sex within each age.
Results
Overall the Basolateral Nucleus of the Amgdala (BLA) was the primary location for the expression of
CRF1 binding and the MePV was the secondary location for binding. CRF2 expression in the MePV
was not as intense as that of the CRF1 receptor. The MePD had less expression of both types of CRF
receptor and no expression in the CeA. They found intense expression of CRF2 receptor in the cortical
nucleus of the amygdala and choroid plexus.
Each hemisphere of the brain had no significant difference in the binding of both types of CRF
receptors. Figure 2 shows that in the binding

Walnut Street Jail
Although some say that incarcerating people or giving them the death penalty is the only way to
punish criminals, there are alternatives to these such as halfway houses, probation or community
corrections and more. Most of these projects have helped criminals get onto a better path and rethink
their life decisions. There are several ways to reduce crime rates and all of them are beneficial in one
way or another. Imprisonment has been a form of punishment since before the American Revolution.
It has been going on for hundreds of years, but the tactics that were used before and now are

related crime. Many states have been using these strategies to decrease any drug associated offences.
One of the most well known and with the best results is Project HOPE. This program started in 2004
and it helps change the way people deal with drugs and their behavior. Because this project works so
well, more that 1,500 probationers have been enrolled in HOPE (Alternatives to Incarceration, 1). This
program has been known to reduce crime rate, mainly in Hawaii, but there are different projects in the
United States that are based off of HOPE. An additional Smart Probation Strategy is The 24/7 Sobriety
Project. This program is for driver who have had multiple DUI s and who would like to be able to
drive again. This works by having the partakers stay fully sober of any alcohol or illegal substance,
which will not only help get them their driving privileges back, but will keep them out of jail as well.

depends on whether they want to make an effort or not.

Ruddick Explores Human Psychology In Suspects Of Mrs....
7. Ruddick explores human psychology in the suspects of the murder. For instance, Mrs. Cox was
accused of the crime since she was a few days away from being dismissed by Mr. Bravo. People
believed that Mrs. Cox had a motive because she was putting her children through school, and she was
paying a mortgage on a house that she rented out. Mrs. Cox had gotten an advance on her salary to
pay off some debts and now she owed money to the Bravo family. Greed could be a factor in accusing
Mrs. Cox of murder but Ruddick disproves that this was a reason for Charles s murder. Ruddick
discovered that Mrs. Cox came from a wealthy family that had roots in Jamaica. The Cox family
owned three large plantations that exported different tropical crops. A few

The Main Features Of Feminism As A Sociological Theory
This essay would describe the main features of feminism as a sociological theory, identify the ways in
which feminism is criticised by other theories, and identify the main differences and similarities
between the theories using qualitative and quantitative evidence to support or challenge the main
theory. It will also discuss how the evidence contradicts the theories.
Sociology is the study of society. Sociology is a study that could help us to understand the relationship
between an individual and the institutions and the interdependent roles within the social relationships
(Llewellyn et al., 2008). According to Cree (2010) sociological theories are concerned with the power,
beliefs, the struggle for necessary resources in the society, ideas, values on the society, action and the
structure of the society, models of change, macro and micro economy in the society. Each of the
theories has their own argument of how they think the society should be. The sociological theories are
Maxims and Functionalism (Llewellyn et al., 2008).
Maxims describe a change in the society through conflict. They also believe in the structural and
economic theory of society that seeks to understand change and promote change. This change is
determined by economic forces, by how goods are produced and by how the means of production are
owned.
Furthermore, Maxims believe the fundamental change occurs through a class struggle where one class

I Have Always Loved Science Since A Young Age
I have always loved science since a young age. During high school, I began experimenting with all the
different science classes, that the school had to offer. Out of all of those classes I found the one that
brought an incredible amount of fascination. That class was Botany where I had studied plants and
learned their functions. I learned about how they grow from a seed to how they reproduce. Even with
that class, I have always found that plants bring a certain amount of curiosity. I had dreamt many ways
to the perfect yard with all sorts of plant species. The yard would be overflowing with plants. Also, the
house would have so many plants inside that it would be a jungle. The courses required for botany are
very heavy with science. I know that I will be taking fifteen different science classes. I looked forward
to the challenges that each class will bring. During the time in my freshman year, I would like to know
what reading and writing, I will need for botany also known as plant science.
I looked in greater detail into Botany, I came to very interesting details about what my major will
include. I gathered all sorts of facts from different sources about Botany. Plant science is a hand on
very skilled profession. It requires a lot of experience and skills to work in the basic field of it. Botany
is very broad science of plants. Different scientist studies certain parts of plants and their functions.

Identifying The Problem Of A Third Grade English Classroom...
Step 1: Identifying the Problem I am teaching in a sixth grade English classroom at a middle school.
The middle school is located in a rural area, but it is thought to be a medium sized school in the school
district with an enrollment of 403 students. This particular year the school had enough funding to
begin a program called the One to One Initiative . With this initiative, all the students in the school
received an individual laptop that enables them to submit all of their assignments online. In addition to
their laptops, my students have access to technology through my classroom s smart board . My
classroom also has desks, a white board, an area with many classroom books that the students can
check out, and many brightly colored ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am lenient with my students and work with them in order that they can complete their assignments
within the quarter, but the students do not seem to care. Lately I have seen more zeros in the grade
book than I can count. Parents have contacted me asking why their child is not receiving a passing
grade in my class, and I have explained the situation and offered to meet with them; in some cases, it
does not appear to help. I believe if I do not solve this problem, the consequences could be drastic.
The students will not pass sixth grade English, and they will not learn the required material needed for
future English classes. Additionally, they will struggle with end of the year ISTEP testing and other
assessments if they do not learn the material presented in my sixth grade class. I have tried giving
detentions during the lunch period to provide students additional time to complete late assignments
and help them realize that completing assignments is imperative in my classroom. I have also tried
sending students to the principal s office if they appear to not be completing work in class. Both of
these strategies have not worked.
Step 2: The Intervention An intervention I might implement to change the situation is an incentive
program. If I recognize that my students are not completing assignments on time because they do not
seem to care about the consequences that could affect their grades, I may need to provide immediate
rewards that foster

The Assassination Of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy...
November 22, 1963, is a day that lives in infamy. Most Americans remember that day, even those who
were not born, for one reason. The assassination of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy transpired in
Dallas, Texas. His assassination became a topic of controversy as the idea of a lone sniper committing
the act was hard to accept. The assassin would go on to die a few days later. Media outlets around the
nation were in shock. The local Metroplex stations panicked like everyone else. As a native Texan,
correction native Dallasite, I view the Kennedy assassination differently than most Americans. I want
to stick close to my Dallas roots, and analyze what occurred on Elm Street that day and how the local
media covered the event.
The Dallas Metroplex is massive, totaling 10,693 square miles, 12 counties, and over 6 million
inhabitants. The Metroplex being so extensive, it was unlikely that every citizen and every city reacted
to the Kennedy assassination in the same fashion. For that reason, I decided to spread my sights, and
focus on three cities in different parts of the Metroplex. Analyzing the distinct patterns in their
newspaper publications from November 21st to November 25th provides a unique point of view of
how the Metroplex responded as a whole. Once, I have developed a keen understanding of the media
response in the Metroplex; I can compare it to the Warren Commission report and how they portrayed
what occurred in Dealey Plaza on a late November day. The three cities

Impact Of The Great San Francisco Earthquake
Great San Francisco Earthquake
On April 18, 1906, at 5:12 am over 400 thousand lives were forever changed, due to the San Francisco
Earthquake. The 7.7 7.9 magnitude earthquake only lasted for a minute, however, the impact was
incredible. The earthquake ignited several fires that spread throughout San Francisco and lasted for
three days.
Tectonic plates make up the outermost shell of the Earth and have been moving in relation to each
other for hundreds of millions of years. Two tectonic plates, North American Plate and Pacific Plate,
meet in Western California. The boundary between these plates is a zone of faults. One of these faults
is called the San Andreas fault, which is a transform plate boundary. This means the motion between
the two relative plates is mainly horizontal. At 5:12 am, the Pacific Plate slid horizontally north west
in relation to the North American Plate, causing the earthquake along the San Andreas fault and
associated faults.1 Contemporary geologists were amazed and bewildered with the size of the
horizontal tectonic movements and the large rupture length (477km).2
The San Francisco Earthquake had a highly significant impact on the surrounding environment. The
overwhelming total death count for the earthquake and fires is estimated to be 3 thousand people. In
addition, the earthquake left 250 thousand residents homeless and destroyed 28 thousand building.3
The tremors of the earthquake destroyed San Francisco s water mains, resulting in the

Comparing The Charge of the Light Brigade and Dulce ET...
Comparing The Charge of the Light Brigade and Dulce ET Decorum EST
The poems The Charge of the Light Brigade and Dulce ET Decorum EST are war poems. They reflect
on two different but equally harrowing events, however the poets portray these events using their own
style and the and result is two entirely different views of war.
Alfred Tennyson wrote the Charge of the Light Brigade in 1854 and it is about the battle of Balaclava
in the Crimean war. Although this battle had no real influence on the outcome of the war it showed the
bravery of six hundred British soldiers who charged into almost certain death. The poem itself is a
patriotic ballad keeping up with the tradition of the time. The poem is heroic and romantic. ... Show

On the other hand however he can also speed up the poem Storm d at with shot and shell, While horse
and hero fell , to give a sense of frenzy.
Owen s use of punctuation to convey a mood is depicted here His hanging face, like a devils sick of
sin; If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood come gargling from the froth corrupted lungs .
Although there are many similarities between the poems if you were to read them each shows an
entirely different aspect of war. Tennyson glamorises the war. His views of the war are very positive
and he sees it as an opportunity for a man to prove himself. He speaks of the qualities of these men, of
their bravery. They are charging in to almost certain death but yet they still follow orders and fight on
in the valley of death . He doesn t speak of the fact that this was a huge mistake by the general to send
his men into almost certain death. He reflects the popular and widespread opinion of the time, which
was that war was a great thing and all young men looked forward to being able to serve and die for
their country. The main reason for this belief was that there hadn t been a major war fought in Britain
for the past two hundred or so years and people didn t realise the horrors that war brought. Tennyson s
poem has none of the gory details of Dulce ET Decorum EST . Tennyson s poem is removed from the

Home Depot Credit Rating
Evaluation of credit rating Memorandum: Credit Rating assignment: Home Depot, Inc. After
analysing the financial statements of Home Depot, we have allocated a C rating of credit risk. The
proposal is to start with the C rating and then to either upgrade to a B rating or to be down graded to a
D rating. The reason for such a decision is discussed below. Home Depot has a current ratio of 1.19 to
1 which means that it s current assets covers it s current liabilities by 1.19 times. This is the lowest
that it had been for the last 10 years against an average of 1.61. A current ratio of 2 or higher would
usually be a qualifier for good credit risk. The low current ratio of Home Depot will increase the credit

Gross Profit Rate: The average year on year increase in gross profit rate over the past 10 years was
19.85% (Annexure 2, Table). This indicator peaked in 1999 at 32.54% and gradually reduced over the

profitability of Home Depot can be made: Growth in Net Sales reduced with 1.3% between 2004 and
2005 while cost of sales increased with 1.4% over the same period resulting in a reduction in the gross

The second allusion is of a Roman god: front of Jove himself (III.iv.57). Jove is the English name for
Jupiter, known as the god of all gods, of Light and of Sky (Lindemans). In this allusion, Shakespeare
compares the face or front of King Hamlet to the faultless face of Jupiter, the supreme god of the
Roman pantheon (Lindemans).
The third allusion, An eye like Mars (III.iv.58) refers to the Roman god of War, Mars. Numerous
temples are dedicated to him and a meeting of the Roman army usually occurs at one of his temples

The 1968 Tet Offensive In The Vietnam War
The 1968 Tet Offensive was a series of battles which took place during the Vietnam War where the

Abstract: Collegiate athletes participating in the two revenue sports (football, men s basketball)
sacrifice their time, education, and risk physical harm for their respected programs. The players are
controlled by a governing body (NCAA) that dictates when they can show up to work, and when they
cannot show up for work. They are restricted from making any substantial financial gains outside of
their sports arena. These athletes receive no compensation for their efforts, while others prosper from
their abilities. The athletes participating in the two revenue sports of college athletics, football and
men s basketball should be compensated for their time, dedication, and work put forth in their
respected sports.

There is a reality to college athletes participating in men s basketball and football. The reality is these
athletes are being exploited, and as argued by Stanley Eitzen, they are being exploited much like
slaves during the years of the plantation system. It is an idea created by Eitzen that seams overdrawn,
but makes significant parallels to that of the plantation system. The National Collegiate Athletic
Association (NCAA) preserves the plantation system, providing the rules that protect the interests of
the individual plantation overseers. The plantations are football and men s basketball factories within
the universities with big time programs. The plantation overseers are college coaches who receive
hard labor from their workers. The workers on the plantation are owned by the plantation, they
produce riches for their masters while receiving a meager amount of return on the profits of the
plantation. Being exploited for their physical abilities is not the only injustice hindering these athletes.
They are controlled, managed, and dominated by their superiors. They are restricted in their rights to
freedom, and in some cases mistreated physically and mentally (Eitzen).
Many people who watch and are directly affiliated with college sports would be opposed

mental illness, or substance abuse disorder. However, due to her reports, it could be hypothesized that
she may have been a victim of sexual abuse or physical abuse at one point in her early life. Borderline
Personality disorder has found to be a contributor to child abuse (Spatz 2009). Having parental
familial substance abuse and other factors were also predictors for Borderline Personality Disorder.

Types Of Big Data And Large Data
Big data is a term used to define the amount of data, structures and unstructured, so huge that
traditional data base managements techniques are rendered useless and the storage and analytics of
this data pose a problem. There are various types of big data and big data can be defined in four Vs,
which are: Volume, Velocity, Variety and Veracity. The problem is solved by Google Distributed File
System, an application that google created for it s own use to automatically store data.
With the amount of big data multiplying every minute, technologies like cloud computing came into
picture, in many, Hadoop is one which stands out. Hadoop is an open source platform where big data
can be stored, managed and even used. Organisations like Amazon and LinkedIn use the Hadoop
framework to connect to it s customers.
Another new technology is MapReduce. MapReduce maps the input data and provides it to the user as
output in a reduced form due to the clusters of computers working in parallel to individually process
the data.
With the further growth of data more technologies will be explored and if we assume if things proceed
as they are doing, there will be time soon when we won t even have to look for jobs. The right job for
our capabilities will be offered to us by comprehending us on our IQ, our likes and dislikes, our
nature, hobbies, etc.
Big Data comprises of data, structured and unstructured of such vast quantities that managing it, or
even properly utilising it poses

Perception And Perception Of The Cognitive Development Of...
Both attention and perception are concepts that relate to the cognitive development of human beings.
Both concepts contribute to our ability to control and direct the processing of stimuli, whether it is
physical, visual, auditory or retrieved from stored memory. Perception is the ability to make sense of
our surroundings, whereas attention is the ability to concentrate on any perceived stimuli. A link
between perception and attention comes from an individual s ability to choose which stimuli to
allocate their attention towards. This ability is important due to the vast amount of information in
which humans are presented with on a daily basis. By using selective attention, individuals are able to
focus their attention on a specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a lack of attention which is not caused by any visual or auditory deficits. It is when an
individual fails to recognise an unexpected yet obvious stimulus. When there is too much stimuli for
one to attend to, a temporary blindness effect can occur and as a result individuals may fail to see
unanticipated, yet obvious stimuli. There is a vast amount of research which suggests that no
conscious perception can occur without attention. In Mack and Rock s (1998) study, subjects
performed several trials of a length judgment task consisting of 2 lines in the form of a cross,
presented on a computer screen. On one of the trials, an additional image was presented as well as the
cross and participants were asked of their awareness of this. Results showed that a large percentage of
participants failed to even notice the added figure, which suggests the existence of inattentional
blindness. Mack and Rock (1998) therefore concluded that attention is needed for conscious
perception. A similar conclusion was drawn by Rock and Gutman (1981) when they conducted a study
where subjects were presented with a series of images of two overlapping lines. These were novel or
familiar items and the lines were presented in different colours. The participants were instructed to
only pay attention to one of the two lines, which caused inattention for the unattended figure. The
results of Rock and Gutman s (1981) study showed that participants

Reid Technique Analysis
To define, Reid technique; Reid technique leads to false confession and also police officers are
extremely racially prejudiced. Its interrogation technique developed by John Reid is used by law
enforcements in Canada and United States. It s highly effective method on in making confessions
from suspects, both guilty and innocent; With the Reid technique, physical arm twisting is replaced
with mind twisting, however I personally believe that this technique victimizes people and it put more
minorities in prison. Due to the high pleasure from the police and verbal abuse sometimes people
confess to something they haven t done. Also sometimes police are bias and verbally insulting and

Istanbul Palaces in Pre-Ottoman Era Essay
Istanbul Palaces in Pre Ottoman Era Byzantium, Constantinople and Istanbul, these names are

Innocence In The Fifth Child
I used The Innocent Youth to analyze The Very Old Man With Enormous Wings by Gabriel García
Márquez, The Fifth Child by Doris Lessing, and The Things They Carried By Tim O Brien. Using the
definition of innocent youth, a character inexperienced with many weaknesses who seeks safety with
others; others like him/her because of the trust he or she shows in other people. Usually, the
experience of coming of age comes in the later parts of the narratives provided to me. Also, using a
basic definition of innocent, lacking experience with the world and the bad things that happen in life .

From the beginning of Harriet s pregnancy she knew something was different. She was always in pain
and when she finally gave birth to the child, Ben, he was different. He was not a pretty baby. He did
not look like a baby at all. He even looked different and was also very strong. Has he grew up, he was
always getting into trouble. Some reasons why I believe Ben is innocent is his age. Especially, when
he was the age of an infant. Even though Harriet said he is different, we hope that she is crazy. No
baby is evil. Typically, kids that are young don t know how to act. So, his parents can t really be blame
him for his actions. Also, his parents don t know why he acts the way he does. Ben could have a
mental problem his parents are unaware of. However, some people would consider him not to be
innocent. Usually, when a child is born they don t effect the woman the way Ben did to Harriet. Then
when the child is born they aren t as strong as Ben. There is however another character that is
innocent. Amy, daughter of Sarah and William, is innocent because she has Down Syndrome. Down
Syndrome effects intellectual growth and makes it difficult for her to know what is right or wrong for
her age. Lessing main goal wasn t to add innocence in her book. Her goal was to take something that
everyone knows to be innocent and change it into something that s not. She did this by adding in
supernatural touches. She did however include Amy as innocent to compare her with

The Mistakes of the Brilliant General, Napoleon Bonaparte...
The assumption held by many that Napoleon Bonaparte was a brilliant general and an exceptional
leader is debatable when the Frenchman s many mistakes are revealed. Bonaparte was born to a
wealthy family with previous political connections (Wilde 1). He entered a military academy at only
nine years old and entered the French Army Artillery Regiment seven years later (Wilde 1). As
Bonaparte moved up in the military ranks, he made himself known with his political opinions and his
successful leadership of the revolutionaries armed forces (Wilde 1). As he became more famous,
Bonaparte threw open the gates to his path to power. Thus began the era of Napoleon, a time of

His plan backfired, and the French were pinned down in Egypt by the powerful British admiral
Horiato Nelson, which led to Napoleon crawling back to France licking his wounds (McDougal, 584).
Due to the public s ignorance towards this defeat, Napoleon s public image vastly improved, and his
gain in power started to lead to totalitarianism. When the Directory began to lose political popularity
with the common folk, Napoleon led an overthrow of the government (McDougal, 584). The
aftermath of the coup seemed to be flawless; peace had come to Europe for the first time in ten years,
and Napoleon, the most powerful public figure in France, could now focus on re strengthening France
(McDougal, 585). However, the countries of Britain, Austria, and Russia were forming the Second
Coalition, an alliance with the intent to stop Napoleon, behind the scenes of France s post victory
glory (McDougal, 585). Napoleon soon held a plebiscite, or a vote by the people, which made himself
emperor and bestowed total power upon him (McDougal, 585).
As the years passed, Napoleon made many fatal military mistakes that led to the collapse of his empire
and the defiling of the French Revolution s legacy. These mistakes were terminal in three main
campaigns, the Battle of Trafalgar, the Peninsular War, and the invasion attempt on Russia (Wilde, 2).
The battle of Trafalgar was Napoleon s attempt to invade Britain (McDougal, 587). Napoleon s

The Importance Of School Sports In High School
In high school, there are many opportunities to become involved in activities throughout the school
year. Whether it s a club such as Chess Club or a sport in which athletes can compete, students have
numerous opportunities to get involved. These opportunities help prepare students for life by teaching
them important lessons. Although clubs can teach students some major life skills, they do not teach the
students as much as a student actively involved in high school sports. High school athletics teach
students valuable life lessons, they teach students how to manage what is important in their life, and
they teach students to remain physically active throughout life. High school sports are an important
key to teens becoming successful in life and should not be taken for granted.
To start off, high school athletics teach students valuable life lessons. In sports, to become not only an
excellent athlete, but a great team as well, athletes need to work hard. Whether it is by practicing or
training to become better in the weight room, athletes know it takes hard work to acquire their goals.
For anything to become its best, it takes hard work and dedication. This is also true in life. Whether it
is for work or just tending to a garden, it takes hard work to get where you want to go or be where you
want to be. This is a very important life lesson that can and should be used throughout a person s life.
Another important lesson learned through high school athletics is to never give

The opening case, NBA Teams Make a Slam dunk with Information Technology, shows students that
even the professional sports industry has embraced technology as a way to enhance their employees
performance and increase their competitive advantage. Students will start to become familiar with the
idea that many different kinds of businesses have had to change the way they operate, even the
National Basketball Association (NBA). Their new emphasis is on using the Internet and information
technology to mine statistical data and turn it into useful information. The challenges facing the NBA
show why information systems are so essential today. The NBA is a business as well as a sport, and it
needs to help its member teams stay in business and increase their revenues.
Section 1.1, The Role of Information Systems in Business Today , gives students a feel for the
importance of information systems in business today and how they have transformed businesses on
the world stage. A good discussion of the six important business objectives outlined in this section
allows the instructor and students to openly discuss why businesses have become so dependent on
information systems today and the importance of these systems for the survival of a firm. Stress to
students that information systems are not a luxury. In most businesses they are the core to survival.
This would be a good time to ask students to discuss how their own schools are using

Icarus Research Paper
One of the biggest issues parents deal with every day is making sure their children obey their orders.
Although it seems like a simple task to adults, many young teens take pride in disobedience as it
allows them to feel independent. This goes back to the phenomenon of reverse psychology. This
anomaly is revealed in numerous ancient tales such as the forbidden fruit, and even Shakespeare s
Romeo and Juliet. Ovid s myth Daedalus and Icarus is yet another example of disobedience; however,
there is much more to it than that. Well before the first flight, the ancient Greeks predicted the risks of
entering into the realm of the gods (Rogers). Daedalus and his son, Icarus, wanted to escape a
labyrinth that they were trapped in. Knowing they couldn t escape by land or sea, Daedalus, a great
inventor, fabricated two sets of wings with wax and feathers. He warned his son Icarus that if he flew
too high the sun would melt the wings, or if he flew too low the water would splash up and soak the
wings causing him to fall. After only a few minutes of flight Icarus becomes engulfed by the
excitement of flight and continues to ascend. As a result the wings melt and he falls to his death. The
story of Daedalus and Icarus centers on the desire to explore despite inherent teachings that stress the
importance of following rules.
The first evidence of the story of Icarus existing comes from an ancient piece of pottery

Mahatma Gandhi vs. Mao Essay
Gandhi vs. Mao
Mao and Gandhi became key leaders in each of their countries, India and China. Although they both
wanted very similar things to happen to their countries, they used very different tactics. The main
points in their rules where economical, political and social. And all points affected their people in
many ways.
First, to make each of their countries stronger economically Ghandi and Mao changed laws and broke
rules. During the British rule in India there was a salt tax, which made it very hard for the people of
china to buy salt, but it was illegal for them to make their own salt. Because Ghandi did not think this
tax was righteous, on. In 1930, March 12th, he and eighty other people walked in the salt march. The

Mao used violence and killed many of the landlords so that the people of the countryside could
become more powerful economically, but Gandhi used peaceful protests and never wanted to use
violence or war against the British. (China in Revolution Video Dr. Sue Williams, China Guidance
Packet), (Gandhi the film), (China Guidance Packet), (India Guidance Packet). These are my
resources.
Second, to make each of their countries stronger politically, Ghandi and Mao generally treated the
people equally, and changed key parts of the old ways which gained each of them political support.
Gandhi, held peaceful protests, such as passbook burnings that he first created in South Africa. Mao
on the other hand, known for not being a great speaker reached out and gained support by the things
he did. He, gave his people better education, gave woman more rights, by stopping the foot binding.
Took out Confucianism and said that people could marry for love not because the man wanted to
marry a women or a marriage being arranged. Although they used theses tactics in similar ways they
were different in the ways that they lived. For example Mao gave women rights, ironically however
kept many young girls with him at home and slept with them, and a more common phrase for the
things that he did where his Friday night dances. Gandhi on the other hand became celibate, which

The Holocaust And The Bosnian Genocide
The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines the word genocide as the killing of people who belong to a
particular racial, political, or cultural group (Merriam). But aren t genocides much more then that?
Over the past hundred years, there have been several attempted genocides around the world. Two of
the most well known genocides are the Holocaust (the Nazi s attempt to destroy the Jewish people)
and the Bosnian genocide (the Serbians attempt to destroy the Bosnian population). This paper
analyzes a political cartoon relating to genocides, describes the events that led to the Holocaust and
the Bosnian genocide, describes several similarities and differences between them and explains why
genocides continue regardless of the saying, Never Again . I. Cartoon Interpretation The cartoon is a
commentary about the United Nations unsuccessful efforts to stop genocide. These efforts began in the
1940s: Nearly 60 years ago, the international community made a commitment to put an end to the
crime of genocide by ratifying the United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of
the Crime of Genocide. (Hastings) As noted in the cartoon, however, the United Nations efforts have
not succeeded. The cartoon shows a tremendous amount of skeleton heads. These skeleton heads
could refer to all of the people who have been killed in genocides around the world. It also shows
approximately 15 graves above the skeleton heads. The graves include the names of different places

And also, the traffic in the halls often crawls at the SPEED OF MOLASSES. Simply to say, it can

have time to go to the locker to get their materials. This makes it worse for students because they are
unable to do work (Abdelmalek).
Furthermore into the topic, the 10 minute passing period lets and/or helps teachers prepare for their
next period. A longer passing period would prevent students from asking to go use the bathroom, get a
drink, or be late, so teacher(s) have the student s full concentration, If your student doesn t have to
interrupt you to use the restroom or get some water, it is going to be a better learning environment for
the rest of the students. Without these interruptions you may continue your lesson and have student s

that, teachers will have more time to prepare for their next class compared to 5 minutes, so teachers
can get coffee or take a break during the passing period. Therefore, passing periods should be

Major Literary Forms In The New Testament
Define and describe the major literary forms (genres) contained in the New Testament?
The New Testament contains several different genres but not as many as the Hebrew bible, Gospels
the only literary category that was invented by the early Christians. Gospel was a Greek word meaning

denote Jesus teachings and his life.
A gospel involves the words and good deeds of Jesus and there forms are not shaped by biographical
consideration but by their author s theological viewpoints or a study of God. By placing the four
gospels at the beginning of the New Testament, there are four different interpretations by four
different authors.
Letters are the second literary form, the New Testament has twenty one letters that offer views of
Christians in there difficulties in following Jesus, these letters were written between 30 60 CE.
The book of Revelations is another major literary form also known as the apocalypse or unveiling,
Revelations features the unseen world inhabited by both good and evil creatures and urges us as
believers to follow Christ each and every day and to always have faith in him. As we study the books
we find numerous apocalyptic concepts involving eschatology or study of worlds end. 2. Which part
of the NT was written first and who was the author? When did he write it?

The major role of primary active transport is to move sodium from the cytosol of the tubule cell into the surrounding interstitial fluid surrounding the capillary. b. Describe the role of primary active transport with regard to potassium (K+) and hydrogen (H+) ion movement. As a secondary function it provides the driving force to move potassium and hydrogen ions from the interstitial fluid to the filtrate. c. Why is Na+ movement important with regard to movement across the membrane? The movement of sodium ions via active transport is to generate an electrochemical gradient between the filtrate and the interstitial fluid. 8. a. The energy stored in the sodium ion electrochemical gradient is used to transport other molecules back toward the bloodstream (reabsorption). What nutrients are transported in this fashion? Glucose, amino acids and other solutes being recovered from the filtrate. b. How does the sodium gradient affect hydrogen ion movement? Active transport requires chemical energy because it is the movement of biochemicals from areas of lower concentration to areas of higher concentration. 9. As we go through puberty, both male and females have increased levels of sex steroid hormones. In females this causes levels of cortisol to increase, as well as the probability of developing a mood disorder relating to stress. Past studies have shown that this is because of the plasticity of the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis (HPA) axis and the areas of the brain the regulate mood, such as the amygdala. The Astressin 2B helps to visualize the CRF1 receptors, while the CP 154,526 helps to visualize the CRF2 receptors. The control group of sections of brains was incubated for 2 hours in 0.2nm 125I Sanguine. They were washed then exposed to Kodak Biomax MR film. Next, they calculated the receptor binding density and background measurements of the lateral dorsal thalamus and the dorsal striatum. They created heat maps of the brain sections, whose densitometry measurements were close to the mean, using Photoshop. They performed two way ANOVA and post hoc Student s t tests. They compared between subject with sex and age, as well as the effects of age within each sex and sex within each age. Results Overall the Basolateral Nucleus of the Amgdala (BLA) was the primary location for the expression of CRF1 binding and the MePV was the secondary location for binding. CRF2 expression in the MePV was not as intense as that of the CRF1 receptor. The MePD had less expression of both types of CRF receptor and no expression in the CeA. They found intense expression of CRF2 receptor in the cortical nucleus of the amygdala and choroid plexus. Sociology is a study that could help us to understand the relationship between an individual and the institutions and the interdependent roles within the social relationships (Llewellyn et al., 2008). According to Cree (2010) sociological theories are concerned with the power, beliefs, the struggle for necessary resources in the society, ideas, values on the society, action and the structure of the society, models of change, macro and micro economy in the society. Each of the theories has their own argument of how they think the society should be. The sociological theories are Maxims and Functionalism (Llewellyn et al., 2008). Maxims describe a change in the society through conflict. They also believe in the structural and economic theory of society that seeks to understand change and promote change. During high school, I began experimenting with all the different science classes, that the school had to offer. Out of all of those classes I found the one that brought an incredible amount of fascination. That class was Botany where I had studied plants and learned their functions. I learned about how they grow from a seed to how they reproduce. Even with that class, I have always found that plants bring a certain amount of curiosity. I had dreamt many ways to the perfect yard with all sorts of plant species. The yard would be overflowing with plants. Also, the house would have so many plants inside that it would be a jungle. The courses required for botany are very heavy with science. I know that I will be taking fifteen different science classes. I looked forward to the challenges that each class will bring. During the time in my freshman year, I would like to know what reading and writing, I will need for botany also known as plant science. I looked in greater detail into Botany, I came to very interesting details about what my major will include. I gathered all sorts of facts from different sources about Botany. Lately I have seen more zeros in the grade book than I can count. Parents have contacted me asking why their child is not receiving a passing grade in my class, and I have explained the situation and offered to meet with them; in some cases, it does not appear to help. I believe if I do not solve this problem, the consequences could be drastic. The students will not pass sixth grade English, and they will not learn the required material needed for future English classes. Additionally, they will struggle with end of the year ISTEP testing and other assessments if they do not learn the material presented in my sixth grade class. I have tried giving detentions during the lunch period to provide students additional time to complete late assignments and help them realize that completing assignments is imperative in my classroom. I have also tried sending students to the principal s office if they appear to not be completing work in class. Both of these strategies have not worked. • 13. The Assassination Of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy... November 22, 1963, is a day that lives in infamy. Most Americans remember that day, even those who were not born, for one reason. The assassination of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy transpired in Dallas, Texas. His assassination became a topic of controversy as the idea of a lone sniper committing the act was hard to accept. The assassin would go on to die a few days later. Media outlets around the nation were in shock. The local Metroplex stations panicked like everyone else. As a native Texan, correction native Dallasite, I view the Kennedy assassination differently than most Americans. I want to stick close to my Dallas roots, and analyze what occurred on Elm Street that day and how the local media covered the event. The Dallas Metroplex is massive, totaling 10,693 square miles, 12 counties, and over 6 million inhabitants. The Metroplex being so extensive, it was unlikely that every citizen and every city reacted to the Kennedy assassination in the same fashion. For that reason, I decided to spread my sights, and focus on three cities in different parts of the Metroplex. Analyzing the distinct patterns in their newspaper publications from November 21st to November 25th provides a unique point of view of how the Metroplex responded as a whole. Once, I have developed a keen understanding of the media response in the Metroplex; I can compare it to the Warren Commission report and how they portrayed what occurred in Dealey Plaza on a late November day. Tectonic plates make up the outermost shell of the Earth and have been moving in relation to each other for hundreds of millions of years. Two tectonic plates, North American Plate and Pacific Plate, meet in Western California. The boundary between these plates is a zone of faults. One of these faults is called the San Andreas fault, which is a transform plate boundary. This means the motion between the two relative plates is mainly horizontal. At 5:12 am, the Pacific Plate slid horizontally north west in relation to the North American Plate, causing the earthquake along the San Andreas fault and associated faults.1 Contemporary geologists were amazed and bewildered with the size of the horizontal tectonic movements and the large rupture length (477km).2 The San Francisco Earthquake had a highly significant impact on the surrounding environment. The overwhelming total death count for the earthquake and fires is estimated to be 3 thousand people. In addition, the earthquake left 250 thousand residents homeless and destroyed 28 thousand building.3 The tremors of the earthquake destroyed San Francisco s water mains, resulting in the ... He doesn t speak of the fact that this was a huge mistake by the general to send his men into almost certain death. There is a vast amount of research which suggests that no conscious perception can occur without attention. On one of the trials, an additional image was presented as well as the cross and participants were asked of their awareness of this. Results showed that a large percentage of participants failed to even notice the added figure, which suggests the existence of inattentional blindness. Mack and Rock (1998) therefore concluded that attention is needed for conscious perception. A similar conclusion was drawn by Rock and Gutman (1981) when they conducted a study where subjects were presented with a series of images of two overlapping lines. The participants were instructed to only pay attention to one of the two lines, which caused inattention for the unattended figure. • 34. Analysis Of The s Romeo And Juliet Peter Smith Angela Wood Disc 1313 April 20, 2015 Icarus Research Paper One of the biggest issues parents deal with every day is making sure their children obey their orders. Although it seems like a simple task to adults, many young teens take pride in disobedience as it allows them to feel independent. This goes back to the phenomenon of reverse psychology. This anomaly is revealed in numerous ancient tales such as the forbidden fruit, and even Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. Ovid s myth Daedalus and Icarus is yet another example of disobedience; however, there is much more to it than that. Well before the first flight, the ancient Greeks predicted the risks of entering into the realm of the gods (Rogers). Daedalus and his son, Icarus, wanted to escape a labyrinth that they were trapped in. Knowing they couldn t escape by land or sea, Daedalus, a great inventor, fabricated two sets of wings with wax and feathers. He warned his son Icarus that if he flew too high the sun would melt the wings, or if he flew too low the water would splash up and soak the wings causing him to fall. After only a few minutes of flight Icarus becomes engulfed by the excitement of flight and continues to ascend. As a result the wings melt and he falls to his death. The story of Daedalus and Icarus centers on the desire to explore despite inherent teachings that stress the importance of following rules. The first evidence of the story of Icarus existing comes from an ancient piece of pottery ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Second, to make each of their countries stronger politically, Ghandi and Mao generally treated the people equally, and changed key parts of the old ways which gained each of them political support. Gandhi, held peaceful protests, such as passbook burnings that he first created in South Africa. The Holocaust And The Bosnian Genocide The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines the word genocide as the killing of people who belong to a particular racial, political, or cultural group (Merriam). But aren t genocides much more then that? Over the past hundred years, there have been several attempted genocides around the world. Two of the most well known genocides are the Holocaust (the Nazi s attempt to destroy the Jewish people) and the Bosnian genocide (the Serbians attempt to destroy the Bosnian population). This paper analyzes a political cartoon relating to genocides, describes the events that led to the Holocaust and the Bosnian genocide, describes several similarities and differences between them and explains why genocides continue regardless of the saying, Never Again . I. Cartoon Interpretation The cartoon is a commentary about the United Nations unsuccessful efforts to stop genocide. These efforts began in the 1940s: Nearly 60 years ago, the international community made a commitment to put an end to the crime of genocide by ratifying the United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. This makes it worse for students because they are unable to do work (Abdelmalek). Furthermore into the topic, the 10 minute passing period lets and/or helps teachers prepare for their next period. A longer passing period would prevent students from asking to go use the bathroom, get a drink, or be late, so teacher(s) have the student s full concentration, If your student doesn t have to interrupt you to use the restroom or get some water, it is going to be a better learning environment for the rest of the students.
