The Water Brothers
This essay will evaluate the Water Brothers documentary Plastic Ocean and how well their findings
and the information in the clip, contribute to scientific research. While the Water Brothers did manage
to cover a few key issues, being constricted to a twenty two minute time frame left the Water Brothers
with very little room to address other important information. I believe that if more time had been
given to the Water Brothers, they would have done a better job of informing the public of what s really
at stake. If for instances another twenty two minutes was given, I believe that the Water Brothers
would have had a better opportunity to go into detail on key issues. For this paper, I will introduce

Belly Flop Research Paper
Our results show that doing a belly flop would cause the most harm to a person who is diving into a
pool of water. This is based off of the greater speed that a person belly flops into the water (8.3 m/s2),
which is more than both head first diving (7.73 m/s2) and rotating into the water (7.34 m/s2). Also, the
amount of force that the water exerts on the body while doing a belly flop (1079 N) is greater than the
amount of force the water exerts on the body while head first diving (1004.95 N) and rotating into the
water (954.2 N). It takes approximately 3,300 N to crack bones, such as a rib and approximately 4,000
n to fracture a femur (Choi,C). This means that the excessive amounts of force have the power to

Abstract In this study a new noise source is proposed as a one of renewable energy sources in energy
harvesting. Disk Jokey (DJ) is a common device in celebrations and other events. Converting the
produced noise from DJ to electric energy by using a suitable piezoelectric transducer is the main aim
of this study. Piezoelectric sensors used to convert the sound waves to electric charges. Piezoelectric
sensor of the model 7BB 41 2 was used. The piezoelectric sensors were connected in series, parallel,
and series with parallel combination connections. The disk jockey was used as an acoustic noise
source. The sound intensity levels of the output sound were 81, 84, 87 dB. The output of the three
connection modes were measured at 0, 1,2,3,4, and 5cm distance. The results showed that the parallel
connection gave the highest power at the various distances. The maximum generated power was
4.96mwatts without using an external power supply for the signal condition device. The power
decreases by increasing the distance from the source of the noise.

The Blackfoot Indians Essay
The Blackfoot Indians
The wind blows across the lone prairie, causing the golden heads of grass to sway in a synchronized
motion. On the horizon stands a herd of buffalo with bowed heads silhouetted by the slowly sinking
sun. In the east stands an
Indian war party mounted on horseback, each individual in different multicolored attire, all with either
bows or spears in hand. As they move in for the attack, the mystical scene slowly fades from vision....
This dreamlike scene was once everyday life to the American Indian before they were robbed of all
that made their life real. The Indians originally came over to North America via the Bering Strait at a
time when the ice age caused the gap to freeze over. They came from Asia by ... Show more content

several times and passed it on to his left. This left pass routine was continued until the end of the line

right. No one would take a puff until the pipe was returned to the host, who smoked it and sent it
around again. The Blackfoot were a nomadic tribe that lived throughout the year in tepees and had
seasonal migrations. the tepee was originally covered with buffalo skins, but later they were covered
with canvas due to the lack of buffalos. Women were considered the owner of the tepee and were in
charge of it s care and maintenance. Blackfoot tepees consisted of four poles and among the Indians

Blackfoot tepee had a broad band of dark color painted around the base to represent earth, and on this
a series of circles, or dusty stars. They had seasonal grouping of the tepees in a large circle. The
fireplace was made in the center of the tepee, with an outlet for smoke at the top. The tent cover had
flaps to which two poles were attached outside the general framework to form a closable doorway.

Using Paleomagnetic Data For The World s Landmasses Of...
A supercontinent, known as Pangea, was formed by the aggregation of all the world s landmasses in
the Late Triassic Early Jurassic. This concept of a supercontinent was originally proposed by Alfred
Wegener (Wegener, 1915). He suggested that all continents assembled into a single supercontinent,
approximately 300 million years ago, and then according to the theory of plate tectonics, began to
break apart 175 million years ago (Rogers et al., 2004) Immense geologic and geophysical evidence
have been presented, by Wegener and others, to support this theory for the Late Triassic Early
Jurassic. However when analyzing the paleomagnetic data for the Late Paleozoic time, inconsistencies
are present which suggest a very different Pangea construction. These inconsistencies are seen in Late
Paleozoic paleomagnetic data apparent polar wander paths (APWPs) for Laurussia and Gondwana. To
fit Wegner s Pangea reconstruction, the APWPs suggest a substantial crustal overlap and shearing
(Domeier et al., 2012). This paper looks to review proposed alternative reconstructions for Pangea,
using paleomagnetic data as the quantifiable method for determining the supercontinent s location.
Paleomagnetic data as evidence for Plate Tectonics

Essay On Hero s Journey
A Hero s Journey The hero s journey can be found in ancient stories from thousands of years ago as
well as present day stories that may hit the big screen. The hero experiences a chain of events that
gives he or she, typically a male, a title of the hero . The hero s journey begins with either an inner
longing to go on a quest, or an exterior call that requires the hero s help outside of the ordinary world.
Heroes may, at first, refuse the call, or may respond to the call immediately. However, there is usually
some resistance to the call because of the potential danger he or she could face from the unknown
world. In most cases, a guide or a supernatural aid will direct the hero on the journey. In the hero s
journey, one may encounter a threshold ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goddess is typically a symbol to marriage as the temptress attempts to sway the hero from the
continuing on his or her path. It is up to the hero whether or not he will continue to pursue the
beginning goal despite his temptations. Finally, the hero receives the reward as he has overcome the
threshold as a close to the journey. The reward may result into death of one, usually the villain, and a
prize for the hero and community. Such is the case in various Biblical passages. About a thousand
years, before Jesus, the Israelites maintained an uneasy truce with the Philistines who dominated the
land. A troublemaker for the Philistines arises with an extraordinary, superhuman strength. His name is
Samson. The story of Samson asks one important question about the main hero, is he merely a violent
man driven by a thirst for adventure, or does he play a divinely inspiring role. According to the Old
Testament, the story begins in the Village of Zorah, in the family of a poor shepherd named Manoah.
His wife, who is unnamed in the story, has been childless for many years and yearns for a baby. One
day an angel appears before the woman and proclaims that she is going to conceive a son who will

Essay about Illegal Immigration and the Environment
Illegal Immigration and the Environment
One of the most controversial political issues of today is illegal immigration. Illegal immigration
describes the long term shift of populations across national borders without complying with the legal
requirements. Many people are crossing the United States borders illegally to find better jobs, escape
political persecution, and to help out families back home. Some Americans are against this movement
of immigrants. One problem is because of the damaging effects to the United States environment,
another is the amount of money needed to clean up the waste that is being left behind. Illegal
immigration not only hurts the economy, it is also taking its toll on the environment. Illegal

The government has estimated that one immigrant leaves behind eight pounds of litter on the journey.
(Davis, 2005) Smugglers make the immigrants leave their belongings so they can get more people into
cars and trucks for the trip. The illegal immigrants dump their belongings in favor of nicer clothes to
better blend in with the communities where they will be staying. (Davis, 2005) The trash left behind
can consist of harmful waste including food cans, plastic bottles, various medications, paper waste,
batteries, cell phones, radios, and fecal matter. The Tohono O odham tribe has used $100,000 in
government funds and $30,000 of the tribes own money to remove 40 tons of waste from 84 different
places in 2005.(Davis, 2005) In 2005, the city of Tuscan, Arizona allotted $46,000 from their budget
to buy a dump truck to carry off waste left behind by illegal immigrants. The money also paid for
signs in English and Spanish to identify dumping sites, also gloves, visors, safety vest, and containers
for people to clean up the sites. (Davis, 2005) The litter can be very damaging and dangerous to our
natural wildlife and natural resources. The litter is also harmful to people as well. The government has
estimated that 2000 tons of waste is what immigrants dump each year. (Davis, 2005) What makes
migrant waste a problem is that waste is scattered in remote areas where it is

Oppression And Its Effect On Social And Economic Justice
Oppression is the use of power to dis empower, marginalize, silence or otherwise subordinate one
social group or category, often in order to further empower and/or privilege the oppressor. The
purpose for this article is to show how social workers are to avoid unintended collusion with pervasive
oppressive systems and if they are to be successful in promoting social and economic justice, a firm
grasp of the nature of oppression with its dynamics of power and its systemic character is required.
The concept of oppression is presented here, followed by discussion of its dynamics and common
elements and the need for social workers to engage in anti oppressive practice in order to expose and
oppose oppressive relationships and systemic power arrangements. The group that I believe is one of
the most at risks groups to suffer from many various forms of oppression. Despite the decades that
have passed since the beginning of the civil rights movement, racism is still a major issue in America.
We still see organized hate groups, news stories of racial slurs and attacks, and examples that we
observe in our everyday lives. So, what should social workers and the profession as a whole do about
it. This group is at risk because of the persistent and perennial challenges faced by African Americans
is that of cultural oppression. Although the effects of oppression on African Americans have received
enormous attention, much of the focus has been on political and economic oppression as the

The Menorah Is A Common And Very Sacred Symbol Dating
In Jewish religion the Menorah is a common and very sacred symbol dating back to ancient times. The
Menorah is representative of the state of Israel, as well, as the divine light and is probably the most
recognizable Jewish symbol. According to Jewish history, the Menorah was originally a seven
branched candelabra beaten out of a solid piece of gold and was one of the sacred vessels in the Holy
Temple in Jerusalem. The Menorah is said to have stood in the southern part of the temple and was lit
daily by the temple priest using only the highest quality fresh olive oil. The Menorah is of unique
design and symbolizes the divine light. According to Jewish history, God commanded that the
Menorah s goblets be turned upside down on their stems, emphasizing the importance of spreading
light to others. This design reflects the Menorah s exact purpose in the Holy Temple, which was to
spread the light of Godliness to the entire world. The Menorah contains a total of seven branches, six
of which represent human wisdom, guided by the center branch of Divine light. The Menorah s design
and representations serve as an inspiration of enlightenment. The Menorah is also said to be a symbol
of the nation of Israel and its mission to be a light unto the nations. It is stated the light is not a violent
force and for Israel to accomplish their mission they must set an example and refrain from violent
force. Because God supposedly dictated the creation of the Menorah from pure gold, Jewish

Paranormal Sentimental Fiction In Horace Walpole s The...
This section will investigate the history and advancement behind paranormal sentimental fiction.
Paranormal sentimental fiction had its beginnings in the eighteenth century. An early noticeable novel
in this class was The Castle of Otranto composed by Horace Walpole. Walpole began an artistic
development somewhere down in riddle that increased quick drama and various imitators. He is by
and by for the most part associated with Strawberry Hill, the home he worked in Twickenham, South
West London where he resuscitated the Gothic type a few decades before his Victorian successors, and
for his Gothic novel, The Castle of Otranto.
The novel distributed in 1764 is regularly thought as the primary gothic novel, beginning an artistic
kind which would turn out to be exceptionally mainstream in the later eighteenth century and mid
nineteenth century. In this manner, Walpole, by augmentation, is apparently the antecedent to such
creators as Charles Maturin, Ann Radcliffe, Bram Stoker, Edgar Allan Poe and Daphne du Maurier. In
the introduction of the second release, Walpole makes a heuristic for perusing the novel which without
a doubt changes the way perusers are to see the novel until its end. He claims to blend the new and old
types of sentiment. The old sentiment is what is presently considered pre novel exposition a principle
component of such writing is their incredible style. There is enchantment, the otherworldly is
bottomless and they are absolutely mind boggling. The type of the new sentiment is the thing that the
books of the eighteenth century, when Walpole was composing, would ordinarily have resembled.
These books were reasonable; they were made to portray occasions and individuals as they truly were.
Walpole at that point, by attempting to blend these two classes, makes something new something
genuinely novel . He makes fabulous situations like protective caps tumbling from the sky, strolling
pictures, and so on and puts as far as anyone knows genuine individuals into these situations and lets
them to act in a genuine way. In doing as such, he viably enables fiction to develop in ways that it
would some way or another have not possessed the capacity to. Walpole presents many set pieces that

Other functions include planning of strategic goals and making sure they come to fruition, controlling
budget, weighing effectiveness vs. efficiency, and dealing with employees, customers, and vendors. In
essence, there is no specific agenda that can be adhered to on a daily basis, as the environment of a
manager constantly changes. A customer fire drill could arise (Eshelman, 2011); a sudden change in
the organization, budgetary cuts, and so forth. A manager constantly has to be ready to change
direction and still produce results. A bulk of the daily work load is spent on managerial duties, such as
dealing with the problems at hand (Eshelman, 2011), making decisions, leading employees, and
ensuring a natural flow of projects and operations. Two of the most critical managerial issues Mr.
Eshelman describes are budgeting and employee relations. The company must have employees,
products, and other resources to run the business in a profitable manner. It is a manager s
responsibility to weigh the balance of effectiveness vs. efficiency and profit vs. loss on a constant
basis. When certain budgetary allocations change, the manager needs to find alternatives and put plans
into place to reduce cost but still maintain profitability and productivity. In Eshelman s opinion, the
three most important manager skills to possess are the ability to make impromptu decisions, have

The Pros And Cons Of Student Athletes
Dean Clark Carter, I am a junior student here at Charleston Southern University. I write in regards to
an issue I have noticed on campus and would like to bring to your attention; should student athletes
receive special academic treatment? I believe that CSU should hold a student forum about this issue so
that all students gain knowledge about the topic, can share and debate opinions, and create possible
solutions.
In my past two years at CSU, I have heard student athletes argue both for and against receiving special
treatment. As Lombardi et al. mentions, the NCAA places academic criteria that student athletes must
meet in order to stay on their team, play games, and receive scholarships. Rules from the NCAA and
CSU are in place to keep athletes held accountable to academic standards in order to play. According
to the Charleston Southern University Student Handbook, if an athlete is found to have participated in
academic dishonesty, on the first offence he or she must sit out of 20% of games played (10). The
problem arises when alleged stories are spread around campus that athletes are handed good grades by
teachers in order to stay on their team. On the opposing side, if grades start to slip, athletes will be put
on academic probation and are not allowed to play until grades improve. This is an example that the
NCAA rules do apply and athletes do get punished for not holding up their end of the bargain.
From an outside perspective, non athletic students on campus can be

Carpe Diem In To His Coy Mistress By Andrew Marvell
The poem To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell, speaks to his coy mistress about how time is
rapidly passing and he wishes her to reciprocate his feelings along with sexual desires. In this poem I
feel like Marvell is also talking to the reader and encouraging them to act upon their desires.
Ultimately live life to the fullest because time is running out. This poem is all about Carpe Diem with
a satirical aspect on love. Essentially Marvell is trying to get this mistress to sleep with him. He wants
her to abandon her false modesty and give in to his requests, so that all his problems can be fixed with
sex. In lines 1 20 Marvell starts out talking about how ideally, he would spend eternity loving her
before having sex with her. Verbs like sit, think, and walk are associated with slowing down but they
are used to show they have no time, We would sit down, and think which way to walk, and pass our
long love s day. (Marvell, To His Coy Mistress, 3 4) So, he would love her, but they don t have time.
There is an aspect of exaggeration via exoticism seen in Ganges vs Humbler. She is by the Ganges
with rubies while he is by the Humbler complaining. I think this really hints at the reality of what he is
trying to get at because rubies represent talismans that are supposed to preserve virginity (Mays, pg
765, footnote 7). There is a controlling aspect of the speaker where he then again states he would wait
if there was the time. Throughout the stanza the passion grows and he

Hard Rock Returns To Prison Poem Analysis
The Hard Rock was a main inmate in the poem. The name of Hard Rock is based on a hard nut to
crack because he was the only one inmate who never submitted and gave a lot of troubles to officers.
The Hard Rock was treated really badly and punished as warning to other inmates in the hospital.
Why he was treated so badly is because not only he never submitted to officers; there might be that he
was a black person. While the Hard Rock was treated badly, other inmates were very submissive to
officers because they did not want to be treated in the same way as Hard Rock. He was forced under
the strong power in the oppressive community, yet he had the power of perseverance and was very
strong; hence, his attitude has not changed through the poem. The Hard Rock was a hero for other
inmates because he was very strong, against the authority, and brought hope to other inmates in the
poem Hard Rock Returns to Prison by Etheridge Knight. The Hard Rock was very strong. Hard Rock
was standing every treatment he had, no matter how badly the treatment was; thus, his body was full
of scars and welts. His treatment by officers and doctors were inhumane. For instances, he has cut his
brain and shot electricity while he was operated by doctors to make him submissive. In addition, there
was testing if Hard Rock had changed his attitude and submitted to officers, yet he has not changed.
Diversity of extreme punishments on Hard Rock could not only change the behavior; it could also ruin

Examining The Following Strategies For A Higher Branch...
When analyzing the following strategies as a comparison, my finding results illustrate some
similarities and some differences; however, these comparisons listed below:
Original Jurisdiction consists of the judicial system having the authority to observe a case first before
further examination of the evidence needing to decide in a higher courtroom setting. The objective
here is to see if the evidence is worth sending up to a higher branch within the judicial system courts
or for the courts to waive their rights due to speculation opposed to substantial evidence. These courts
remain linked to with the Supreme Court, due to the higher level of court cases heard within the
setting. For example Liberty Island, brought about a controversy as to which state the Statue of
Liberty belong to New York or New Jersey (The New Jersey Society of Professional Land Surveyors,
2016).
Appellate Jurisdiction: consist of the judicial system having the authority to observe the evidence in
the court setting to seek out fault. The goal/objective here is to acknowledge those individuals
responsible for wrongdoings, mistakes, and failure to comply with the law. The Court of Appeal
served final verdict in the case of Reed v. King. When analyzing the court of appeal, the court chooses
to side with Martin, but for various reasons that can t implement in the District Court. For example,
this court evaluated the location of where the tournament was located and established that the site

The Economic Impacts of Legalized Gambling
Introduction
The effect of gambling on the standard of living will be pronounced if the gambling activity is
regressive, meaning that the rate of participation (as a percentage of income) declines as people earn
higher incomes. In other words, if most gamblers are poor, then gambling is more likely to affect the
standard of living among the poor. One study showed many forms of gambling to be regressive.

Much of the economic research investigating the ancillary economic benefits of casinos has focused

1). Table 2 lists tribal contributions to state and local governments by state. As shown, there is
tremendous variability across states. The two tribes that operate Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods in
Connecticut alone account for over half of these payments. 10
Casinos might indirectly affect public revenue as well. Insofar as casinos generate additional business
income, they might indirectly increase other forms of tax revenue. Insofar as they cannibalize sales
from other businesses, they might decrease net tax revenue. Anders, Siegel, and Yacoub (1998) find
that as a result of the introduction of two Indian casinos into Maricopa County, Arizona in 1993,
employment and retail sales in the restaurant and bar sectors declined. Popp and Stehwien (2002)
estimate a similar model to examine the effect of New Mexico s 11 Indian casinos on gross state tax
receipts using quarterly data from 1990 to 1997. They also find a negative effect of Indian casinos on
state sales tax revenues the introduction of a single Indian casino is found to be associated with a one
percent decrease in county tax revenues, but the introduction of a second Indian casino in the county if
found to reduce sales tax revenue by more than six percent. While suggestive, these analyses are
limited in scope and their results do not necessarily generalize to the experiences of other states.

What Impact Does A Difficult Temperament Have On Social...
What impact does a difficult temperament have on social competence in preschool children?
The ability to regulate emotions, thoughts, and behaviors while controlling impulses all have to do
with self management and regulation. These social related skills are impacted by one s own
temperament. Though temperament is believed to be present at birth, research indicates that there are
many environmental factors that can influence temperament. Originally, research on temperament
traits in young children were focused on a child s genetic disposition at birth. However; today,
environmental influences are considered to be equally important to the influence of a child s
temperament development as inborn predispositions. Temperament impacts the young child in many
ways, especially in the development of social competence as it relates to the ability to empathize with
others and in the development of relationship skills including ability to effectively communicate.
Rudasill, Reio, and Stipanovic (2010) research also reiterated that teachers who create positive,
nurturing, and affectionate classroom environments are more likely to have students who flourish and
assert positive social skills when managing social and behavioral challenges.
Definition of Difficult Temperament
Michael P. McCreery in his article Temperament as a Behavioral Construct, defined temperament as
the biological makeup of an individual shaped over time by heredity, maturity, and experiences.

Emperor Justinian Research Paper
EMPEROR
JUSTINIAN
Justinian, whose name was Petrus Sabbatius, was born in 483 C.E. to farmers in the Roman province
of Illyria. He may have been in his teens when he came to Constantinople. Under the sponsorship of
his mother s brother, Justin, Petrus acquired a superior education. However, thanks to his Latin
background, he evidently always spoke Greek with a notable accent. At this time, Justin was a highly
ranked military commander, and Petrus was his favorite nephew. The younger man climbed the social
ladder with a hand up from the older, and he held several important offices. Justinian arranged to
marry Theodora, thereby acquiring an important helpmate and also giving his age one of its most
striking personalities. The reign of Justinian was significant in many ways.
Justinian tried to restore the empire to match the size that it was at the time of the Roman Empire.

and go to their next chapter of life. Ten minutes into the speech, it was time. If we can have all Yama
Middle School graduates to please stand. Boys were bro hugging, hitting the person in front, and some
started to holler. While the females were carefully wiping their tears away so their makeup won t
smudge and hugging their closest best friend. Principal Kawasaki took a moment to gather her
thoughts. Every student knew that she was a very emotional principal when she sees her lovely
graduates graduating. Everyone loves her. She was everyone mom s figure; gentle, intelligent, sweet,
and very caring. As we take our white tessels with our right hand, sliding it over to the left and

graduates threw their hat in the air. [Y/N] and Hiro, stared at each other ready to cry any moment.

Pride and Vanity in Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice
Pride and Vanity in Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice
Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be
proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would
have others think of us. In her novel, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen makes the point that an excess
of pride or vanity is indeed a failing.
Pride, observed Mary, . . . is a very common failing, I believe. By all that I have ever read, I am
convinced that it is very common indeed, that human nature is particularly prone to it, and that there
are very few of us who do not cherish a feeling of self complacency on the score of some quality or
another, real or imaginary. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. Collins possesses a definite sense of vanity. He is in no way concerned about his own opinion of
his character, for as we see his character leaves much to be desired. All he cares about is what others
think of him. He always needs the approval of his present company. When he gives Elizabeth the
grand tour of his nothing spectacular home, he is looking for her approval of his position and
possessions. It is not important to Mr. Collins for people to like him as a person, they just had better be
impressed his status in life and his connections.
Mr. Darcy, as one of the main characters, is for the better part of the novel a focus of the theme of
pride. His pride is very obvious. It is a part of his nature and is seen in his mannerisms and in his
speech. Darcy has such a high opinion of himself that he does not care what others think of him or his
prideful actions. He believes that he is the best in every way possible and finds that his standing in
society gives him the right to be critical of those not as perfect as he.
Elizabeth Bennet, the other main character of the novel, is just as guilty of being proud as any of the
other characters in the novel. She prides herself on being unprejudiced and rational in the judgement
of others. Yet, this is an imaginary quality as she learns that her preconceived notions of both Mr.

The Pros And Cons Of Global Inequality
Global inequality is the state that the world s circumstances are unequal. Many people around the
world are facing this global issue happening. Throughout history, it is seen that ,all the provinces in
the world, have varying degrees of poverty. For my report, I will be focusing on Nepal (Asia) . Nepal
is a landlocked country in South Asia. It is home to Mt. Everest, the tallest mountain in the world, and
another 7 mountains which are among the ten tallest mountains. Nepal s capital city is Katmandu. I
will be comparing Nepal to Australia. Australia (Commonwealth of Australia) is an island country
(Oceania). Surrounded by the Pacific and Indian oceans, it is the largest country in Oceania and 7th
largest country in the world. Australia s capital is Canberra but its economical capital is Sydney. There
are many essential aspects of life which include; income, education, food and water, health and
shelter. Income is money received, especially on a regular basis, for work or through investments. The
weekly income of a laborer in Australia is $622.20 ($476.11 USD) whereas a Nepalese laborer would
make 2000 NPR ($19.31 USD) . Education is the process of receiving or giving systematic
instruction, especially at a school or university. The expected amount of schooling years in Nepal is
12.2 years. Now, compare that to 20.4 years in Australia. The average cost of living in Australia is
$2835 ($2169.31 USD) while the cost of living in Nepal is 500 1100 NRs ($4.83 $10.62

Fraser Coast
Fraser Coast consists of four main ecosystems which are rocky shores, sand dunes, rainforests and
mangroves. All of these ecosystems are important to the survival of several plants and animals. Each
plant and animal work together to keep the ecosystem alive and healthy.
Rocky Shores are found where the sea meets the land which supports a diverse mix of plants and
animals that have adapted to survive in the unique conditions of constant wave action as well as the
fall of tides (Ehp.qld. 2016). Most of the ecosystems flora and fauna live in the intertidal zone,
between high and low tide (Ehp.qld. 2016). They are exposed to two environments, being crushed by
waves and swamped by the sea water, extreme temperatures and salinity, and left unprotected ... Show

Queensland has the fastest growing population in Australia and the greatest area containing mangroves
and with that, inhabiting the greatest number of estuaries (Mangrove Watch, 2016). The large loss in

Appendix 2, shows the distribution of mangroves in Australia, from 2000. Most of the area that s

parts where there are fewer species and less areas that include mangroves.
There are many organisms living, thriving and surviving off of the mangrove forests. Mangroves are

Education of the Black Male in America Essay
Today s education is often viewed as failing in its goal of educating students, especially those students
characterized as minorities, including African American, Hispanic, and Appalachian students (Quiroz,
1999). Among the minority groups mentioned, African American males are affected most adversely.
Research has shown that when Black male students are compared to other students by gender and race
they consistently rank lowest in academic achievement (Ogbu, 2003), have the worst attendance
record (Voelkle, 1999), are suspended and expelled the most often (Raffaele Mendez, 2003; Staples,
1982), are most likely to drop out of school, and most often fail to graduate from high school or to
earn a GED (Pinkney, 2000; Roderick, 2003). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is no single overriding factor to explain this lack of success, but most scholars and researchers
point out that beginning in the colonial era and continuing through most of our nation s history, the
experiences of Black males in White society have been so negative and psychologically damaging
(Pinkney, 2000; Staples, 1982) that they have given birth to and nurtured a deep seated and tenacious
belief in their own, and the entire Black community s, inferiority. At the beginning of this history,
Black male slaves were looked upon by White society as the most undesirable and least trust worthy
of people, and they were treated accordingly. Black male slaves were closely associated with and
compared to animals, and were said to have a deceptive and violent nature and to be uncontrollable
and in need of the whip (Kunjufu, 1986). Given this formative experience in slavery, the fact that
Black males have continued to be disadvantaged from birth to death throughout our nation s short
history hardly seems to need explanation.
A Broader Problem that plagues Black males are not totally the responsibility of the public schools,
but are a responsibility of society as a whole (Delpit, 1995). We can say, however, that the public
schools do play a major role in addressing the problems of Black male students. The educational
experiences and the support services afforded Black male students could play an

Critique Of The Cadian Ball
During the late 1800s, many new ideas came with the industrial revolution. With these ideas came
thoughts on how to change the way our sociality was working. Writers especially brought out the
opinions of they these radical ideas, by writing and spreading these ideas. At the Cadian Ball fails to
advocate a change in the social system, by mixing races and classes, but at the same time, and
supports the norm of marring someone of your own class, by have all four of the main characters
marry into the same class.
Within the story all the characters speak the same language, giving everyone an equal ground,
showing that everyone has something in common. During the story the narrator tells us, They
belonged to the younger generation, so preferred to speak English. (Chopin 6). This tells us that they
all speak the same language, with shows that they are all similar, but we can also infer that because
they state that they do this because they are younger, that the older generations, did not do this and
strengthened the divide between classes by speaking different languages.
The Cadian Ball advocates a change in the social class by featuring multi class and race couples, but
does not fully support the statement by having the characters marry others of their class. They talked
low, and laughed softly, as lovers do. (6) Alcee and Calixta are stated as lovers, even though this is the
1800s, there is a mixed race couple, but the story doesn t portray this negative. They also show

Gabriel García Márquez s A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings
The style of writing called magic realism is marked by its imaginative content, vivid effects, and
lingering mystery (Faulkner). The controversy surrounding magical realism makes the classification
of what is and what is not very difficult. Gabriel García Márquez, a famous Latin American author,
has written many pieces of what is generally conceived to be magical realism. A Very Old Man with
Enormous Wings fulfills every characteristic of magical realism. The successful creation of such a
world in the reader s mind requires skillful use of imagery, excellent development of the main
character, style, and narration. People have many different beliefs of what an angel is supposed to look
like. Márquez, not wanting his readers to stray away from what his own personal view of an angel in
this story, uses imagery to clarify his perception of the angel. Márquez not only makes us see the old
man, but also smell him, and feel the texture of his wings. There was only a few faded hairs left on his
bald skull...huge buzzard wings, dirty and half plucked, were forever entangled in the mud. (Márquez
405). The rich imagery also works to undermine supernatural stereotypes, contradicting our usual
ideas about angels and denying the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator is, after all, the person presenting all this odd imagery to the reader, and readers
habitually look to the narrator for clues to help find a proper interpretation. ( A Very Old Man with

without reaching a conclusion, he confirms the reader s suspicion that the priest s approach is futile,
despite his confident assurances to the crowd. Narrators don t just present facts; they also give

Using Crossword to Teach Vocabulary
TEACHING ENGLISH VOCABULARY
TO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS BY USING CROSSWORD PUZZLE
RAHAJENG
Abstract
Teaching vocabulary is something challenging, especially if it is done to elementary school students. It
is chalenging because elementary school students usually do not like to learn something in a serious
way. They are still children that like to play. A serious way in teaching will just make them bored. It is
why teaching vocabulary to elementary school students requires creativity of the teacher. One of the
alternatives that can be used to teach vocabulary to elementary school students is by using crossword
puzzle. This essay will provide information on the implementation and the effectiveness of using
crossword puzzle in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, by using crossword puzzle, it is students that must be active in finding the meaning of
words by solving or completing the crossword puzzle. In addition, using traditional way will also take
longer time than using crossword puzzle. Students will also get difficulties to recall what they have
learned if they just use the traditional way in learning vocabulary. It will be more effective if students
can experience by themselves how they guess and find the meaning of words by solving or completing
a crossword puzzle.
Students Can Learn Content through Crossword Puzzle
The last reason why using crossword puzzle to teach vocabulary to elementary school students is
effective is that crossword puzzle can make students learn content. Richards and Rodgers state that:
Content Based Instruction refers to an approach to second language teaching in which teaching is
organized around the content or information that students will acquire, rather than around a linguistic
or other type of syllabus. (Richards and Rodgers, 2003: 204)
Therefore, content based instruction emphasizes the information that will be got by students after they
learn something. In content based instruction, language is learned as means to acquire information. It
means that language is learned not only to master or to be able to use it, but also to get other implicit
knowledge found in

Different Visual Illustrations in Perception Essay
Different Visual Illustrations in Perception How can visual illusions illustrate top down processes in

Figure 1 Muller Lyer illusion

include physical illusions, bottom up illusions and top down illusions. An example of a physical
illusion is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this illusion the lines in both A and B are the same length however the arrows pointing inwards in A
make the line appear longer than when the arrows point outwards as in B. Gregory explained this
illusion in 1970 by suggesting that the lines are perceived as being three dimensional rather than two
dimensional. This is shown in figure 2 where A is shown as the inside of the room and B shown as the
outside. By perceiving the objects in this way A becomes further away than B. However given that the
lines are of the same size by applying the principle of size constancy it can be concluded that A is
perceived as being longer than B. For this to be perceived knowledge about what the outside and
inside of a building looks like must be taken into account. This therefore shows how prior knowledge
is used when the image is perceived and so shows how the Muller Lyer illusion is perceived through
top down processing.
Similarly the  Necker Cube illusion (figure 3) can also be explained through top down processing.
In this illusion the cube flips between two different interpretations of the picture whereby one of the
faces of the cube can appear to be at the front of the cube but also can appear to be at the back of the
cube. Work carried out by Wheatstone

Is Rehash And Put On The Tube The Negativity Of Life For...
Why rehash and put on the tube the negativity of life for every recurring commemoration? It s
important to know what happened and remember the outcomes in our hearts, then put it to rest. Why
keep it alive and let the wounds keep on burning? Showing, and talking about it, keeps it alive and as
such, is an inspiration for the weak minds. We saw and heard the mimicking of those saddening
episodes multiplying, instead than diminishing, not to mention the special interest that lies behind the
feeding of the pain, orchestrated for the money that such recurrence can generate. What can be
targeted as a negative impact shouldn t be kept alive, but replaced with a positive, for a positive
inspiration as a simple and healthy equation. They say we have to remember the negative that was
done. I say: I rather forget it, remembering a happy positive one, makes me feel better. What we are
projecting with our minds, is what we get, the option selected and what derives out of it, is rightfully
ours. We are wasting so much time, we are falling short in the progress of formulating a better world.
The reasons for such a delay, is due to the politicians trapped in their contorted games played under
the financial kingdom rules and the shortsightedness of their thousand dollar suit soldiers ruled by
their unconscious fears. This is a mechanism that covers such a large gamut that falls too short for
fairness, leaving the state of affairs mutilated with no sign in sight of a very much needed

The University Center For British Art
In the Yale Center for British Art, one can find a beautiful map titled: The Description of Jarsey a(nn)o
1600. One trait that stands out with this map compared to others drafted the 16th and early 17th
centuries is the exquisite detail depicted in the topographical features. According to a display featured
in an exhibition of the map, this is from the collection of George Legge, first Baron Dartmouth;
previously in the English Royal map collection (Yale Center, From the Collection). One might wonder
why a map with such extensive detail would be in the hands of the Royal Collection, and thus why it
was commissioned by Queen Elizabeth I. According to R. A. Skelton: it is not difficult to see how, in
the course of business, some maps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could be a major factor in why the island was so heavily contested for hundreds of years; the
island is arguably a great launching point for the French Navy to attack the British. With
communication during this time period being relatively slow given the lack of modern technology, it
would have been easy for the island to be captured by the French without mainland Britain
immediately knowing. Thus, there was a great incentive on the part of the British to keep this island
well defended so as to protect it from any potential French attacks. Such an assertion can be bolstered
not only by the fact that Queen Elizabeth I decided to build a castle off the southern coast of the island
in 1594, which could have been done to provide ample protection of the south coastline, but also the
production of the map itself in 1600 which is now held by the Yale Center for British Art. There are
many features of this map that should be acknowledged. First, there are twelve parishes noted. Within
these parishes, there are 2057 households noted, all distributed within the map by town. Some
churches, windmills and other landmarks are denoted on the island with pictures and names of said
places. Looking past this basic information, the more detailed material begins in the southern part of
the map. While topographical information is scattered throughout the map, the majority of this
information is marked solely on the southern side of Jersey. What appears to be hills and

The Aeneid Essay
Publius Vergilius Maro, more commonly known as Virgil, was born on October 15, 70 B.C. in a small
village near Mantua in Northern Italy. He was born into a relatively well to do family, as his parents
were farm owners with a hefty amount of land to their name. Virgil was provided with an education
that quenched his thirst for knowledge. He showed a particular interest in mathematics and medicine,
but also studied in law and rhetoric. Quickly after his first law case, he gave up his studies of law and
turned his interests to philosophy. Due to civil unrest, Virgil was forced to flee his home in 49 B.C. He
traveled to Naples and began his career as a poet. With sponsorship from his friend, Augustus Caesar,

The Aeneid also proved to roman citizens that the roman Emperors were descendants of the founders,
heros and gods of Rome and Troy. ( Patron Augustus Client Rome ) Virgil used some of the same
characters that Homer used in his famous poems, the Iliad and the Odyssey. Ulysses was the hero of
Homer s Odyssey. In the Odyssey, Ulysses took a long, dangerous, and treacherous voyage before he
was able to make it home again, very similar to Aeneas. References that are used in the Aeneid to the
current location of Ulysses help readers realize Aeneas location when compared to Ulysses in the
poem. Achilles, who was the greatest of all the Greek warriors, slew Hector, a Trojan hero, during the
war in the Aeneid and was the tragic hero of the Iliad. Hector was also used as a parallel figure to
Turnus, who also defended his native city to the death. Andromache, Hector s wife, survived the siege
of Troy. She meets Aeneas on his journey, tells him her story, and advises his course to Italy. Paris was
a Trojan prince, and the brother to Hector. He was asked by Venus, Juno, and Minerva to make a
judgement on who the most attractive of the three was. He was promised Helen by Venus, therefore,
he chose Venus. Stealing Helen provokes the Trojan War. Menelaus was Helen s husband and he made

While the Water Brothers did manage to cover a few key issues, being constricted to a twenty two minute time frame left the Water Brothers with very little room to address other important information. I believe that if more time had been given to the Water Brothers, they would have done a better job of informing the public of what s really at stake. • 3. Belly Flop Research Paper Our results show that doing a belly flop would cause the most harm to a person who is diving into a pool of water. This is based off of the greater speed that a person belly flops into the water (8.3 m/s2), which is more than both head first diving (7.73 m/s2) and rotating into the water (7.34 m/s2). Also, the amount of force that the water exerts on the body while doing a belly flop (1079 N) is greater than the amount of force the water exerts on the body while head first diving (1004.95 N) and rotating into the water (954.2 N). It takes approximately 3,300 N to crack bones, such as a rib and approximately 4,000 n to fracture a femur (Choi,C). Disk Jokey (DJ) is a common device in celebrations and other events. Converting the produced noise from DJ to electric energy by using a suitable piezoelectric transducer is the main aim of this study. Piezoelectric sensors used to convert the sound waves to electric charges. Piezoelectric sensor of the model 7BB 41 2 was used. The piezoelectric sensors were connected in series, parallel, and series with parallel combination connections. The disk jockey was used as an acoustic noise source. The sound intensity levels of the output sound were 81, 84, 87 dB. The output of the three connection modes were measured at 0, 1,2,3,4, and 5cm distance. The results showed that the parallel connection gave the highest power at the various distances. The maximum generated power was 4.96mwatts without using an external power supply for the signal condition device. The power decreases by increasing the distance from the source of the noise. On the horizon stands a herd of buffalo with bowed heads silhouetted by the slowly sinking sun. As they move in for the attack, the mystical scene slowly fades from vision.... No one would take a puff until the pipe was returned to the host, who smoked it and sent it around again. Women were considered the owner of the tepee and were in charge of it s care and maintenance. Blackfoot tepees consisted of four poles and among the Indians were the most elegant in shape and painted decoration. The Blackfoot tepee had a broad band of dark color painted around the base to represent earth, and on this a series of circles, or dusty stars. They had seasonal grouping of the tepees in a large circle. The fireplace was made in the center of the tepee, with an outlet for smoke at the top. • 6. Using Paleomagnetic Data For The World s Landmasses Of... A supercontinent, known as Pangea, was formed by the aggregation of all the world s landmasses in the Late Triassic Early Jurassic. This concept of a supercontinent was originally proposed by Alfred Wegener (Wegener, 1915). He suggested that all continents assembled into a single supercontinent, approximately 300 million years ago, and then according to the theory of plate tectonics, began to break apart 175 million years ago (Rogers et al., 2004) Immense geologic and geophysical evidence have been presented, by Wegener and others, to support this theory for the Late Triassic Early Jurassic. However when analyzing the paleomagnetic data for the Late Paleozoic time, inconsistencies are present which suggest a very different Pangea construction. These inconsistencies are seen in Late Paleozoic paleomagnetic data apparent polar wander paths (APWPs) for Laurussia and Gondwana. To fit Wegner s Pangea reconstruction, the APWPs suggest a substantial crustal overlap and shearing (Domeier et al., 2012). This paper looks to review proposed alternative reconstructions for Pangea, using paleomagnetic data as the quantifiable method for determining the supercontinent s location. Paleomagnetic data as evidence for Plate Tectonics Paleomagnetism is the study of earth s magnetic field as preserved in the magnetic orientation of certain minerals. For example, when igneous rocks are formed, during cooling, certain minerals align themselves with the earth s magnetic field and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The hero experiences a chain of events that gives he or she, typically a male, a title of the hero . The hero s journey begins with either an inner longing to go on a quest, or an exterior call that requires the hero s help outside of the ordinary world. Heroes may, at first, refuse the call, or may respond to the call immediately. However, there is usually some resistance to the call because of the potential danger he or she could face from the unknown world. Some Americans are against this movement of immigrants. (Davis, 2005) The trash left behind can consist of harmful waste including food cans, plastic bottles, various medications, paper waste, batteries, cell phones, radios, and fecal matter. The Tohono O odham tribe has used $100,000 in government funds and $30,000 of the tribes own money to remove 40 tons of waste from 84 different places in 2005.(Davis, 2005) In 2005, the city of Tuscan, Arizona allotted $46,000 from their budget to buy a dump truck to carry off waste left behind by illegal immigrants. • 10. Oppression And Its Effect On Social And Economic Justice Oppression is the use of power to dis empower, marginalize, silence or otherwise subordinate one social group or category, often in order to further empower and/or privilege the oppressor. The purpose for this article is to show how social workers are to avoid unintended collusion with pervasive oppressive systems and if they are to be successful in promoting social and economic justice, a firm grasp of the nature of oppression with its dynamics of power and its systemic character is required. The concept of oppression is presented here, followed by discussion of its dynamics and common elements and the need for social workers to engage in anti oppressive practice in order to expose and oppose oppressive relationships and systemic power arrangements. The group that I believe is one of the most at risks groups to suffer from many various forms of oppression. Despite the decades that have passed since the beginning of the civil rights movement, racism is still a major issue in America. We still see organized hate groups, news stories of racial slurs and attacks, and examples that we observe in our everyday lives. So, what should social workers and the profession as a whole do about it. • 11. The Menorah Is A Common And Very Sacred Symbol Dating In Jewish religion the Menorah is a common and very sacred symbol dating back to ancient times. The Menorah is representative of the state of Israel, as well, as the divine light and is probably the most recognizable Jewish symbol. According to Jewish history, the Menorah was originally a seven branched candelabra beaten out of a solid piece of gold and was one of the sacred vessels in the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. The Menorah is said to have stood in the southern part of the temple and was lit daily by the temple priest using only the highest quality fresh olive oil. The Menorah is of unique design and symbolizes the divine light. According to Jewish history, God commanded that the Menorah s goblets be turned upside down on their stems, emphasizing the importance of spreading light to others. This design reflects the Menorah s exact purpose in the Holy Temple, which was to spread the light of Godliness to the entire world. The Menorah contains a total of seven branches, six of which represent human wisdom, guided by the center branch of Divine light. The Menorah s design and representations serve as an inspiration of enlightenment. The Menorah is also said to be a symbol of the nation of Israel and its mission to be a light unto the nations. It is stated the light is not a violent force and for Israel to accomplish their mission they must set an example and refrain from violent force. • 12. Paranormal Sentimental Fiction In Horace Walpole s The... This section will investigate the history and advancement behind paranormal sentimental fiction. Paranormal sentimental fiction had its beginnings in the eighteenth century. An early noticeable novel in this class was The Castle of Otranto composed by Horace Walpole. Walpole began an artistic development somewhere down in riddle that increased quick drama and various imitators. He is by and by for the most part associated with Strawberry Hill, the home he worked in Twickenham, South West London where he resuscitated the Gothic type a few decades before his Victorian successors, and for his Gothic novel, The Castle of Otranto. The novel distributed in 1764 is regularly thought as the primary gothic novel, beginning an artistic kind which would turn out to be exceptionally mainstream in the later eighteenth century and mid nineteenth century. In this manner, Walpole, by augmentation, is apparently the antecedent to such creators as Charles Maturin, Ann Radcliffe, Bram Stoker, Edgar Allan Poe and Daphne du Maurier. In the introduction of the second release, Walpole makes a heuristic for perusing the novel which without a doubt changes the way perusers are to see the novel until its end. He claims to blend the new and old types of sentiment. The old sentiment is what is presently considered pre novel exposition a principle component of such writing is their incredible style. There is enchantment, the otherworldly is bottomless and they are absolutely mind boggling. The type of the new sentiment is the thing that the books of the eighteenth century, when Walpole was composing, would ordinarily have resembled. These books were reasonable; they were made to portray occasions and individuals as they truly were. Walpole at that point, by attempting to blend these two classes, makes something new something genuinely novel . He makes fabulous situations like protective caps tumbling from the sky, strolling pictures, and so on and puts as far as anyone knows genuine individuals into these situations and lets them to act in a genuine way. In doing as such, he viably enables fiction to develop in ways that it would some way or another have not possessed the capacity to. Walpole presents many set pieces that ... A bulk of the daily work load is spent on managerial duties, such as dealing with the problems at hand (Eshelman, 2011), making decisions, leading employees, and ensuring a natural flow of projects and operations. Two of the most critical managerial issues Mr. Eshelman describes are budgeting and employee relations. The company must have employees, products, and other resources to run the business in a profitable manner. It is a manager s responsibility to weigh the balance of effectiveness vs. efficiency and profit vs. loss on a constant basis. • 14. The Pros And Cons Of Student Athletes Dean Clark Carter, I am a junior student here at Charleston Southern University. I write in regards to an issue I have noticed on campus and would like to bring to your attention; should student athletes receive special academic treatment? I believe that CSU should hold a student forum about this issue so that all students gain knowledge about the topic, can share and debate opinions, and create possible solutions. In my past two years at CSU, I have heard student athletes argue both for and against receiving special treatment. As Lombardi et al. mentions, the NCAA places academic criteria that student athletes must meet in order to stay on their team, play games, and receive scholarships. Rules from the NCAA and CSU are in place to keep athletes held accountable to academic standards in order to play. According to the Charleston Southern University Student Handbook, if an athlete is found to have participated in academic dishonesty, on the first offence he or she must sit out of 20% of games played (10). The problem arises when alleged stories are spread around campus that athletes are handed good grades by teachers in order to stay on their team. On the opposing side, if grades start to slip, athletes will be put on academic probation and are not allowed to play until grades improve. This is an example that the NCAA rules do apply and athletes do get punished for not holding up their end of the bargain. From an outside perspective, non athletic students on campus can be ... • 15. Carpe Diem In To His Coy Mistress By Andrew Marvell The poem To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell, speaks to his coy mistress about how time is rapidly passing and he wishes her to reciprocate his feelings along with sexual desires. In this poem I feel like Marvell is also talking to the reader and encouraging them to act upon their desires. Ultimately live life to the fullest because time is running out. This poem is all about Carpe Diem with a satirical aspect on love. Essentially Marvell is trying to get this mistress to sleep with him. He wants her to abandon her false modesty and give in to his requests, so that all his problems can be fixed with sex. In lines 1 20 Marvell starts out talking about how ideally, he would spend eternity loving her before having sex with her. Verbs like sit, think, and walk are associated with slowing down but they are used to show they have no time, We would sit down, and think which way to walk, and pass our long love s day. (Marvell, To His Coy Mistress, 3 4) So, he would love her, but they don t have time. There is an aspect of exaggeration via exoticism seen in Ganges vs Humbler. She is by the Ganges with rubies while he is by the Humbler complaining. I think this really hints at the reality of what he is trying to get at because rubies represent talismans that are supposed to preserve virginity (Mays, pg 765, footnote 7). There is a controlling aspect of the speaker where he then again states he would wait if there was the time. Throughout the stanza the passion grows and he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The name of Hard Rock is based on a hard nut to crack because he was the only one inmate who never submitted and gave a lot of troubles to officers. The Hard Rock was treated really badly and punished as warning to other inmates in the hospital. Why he was treated so badly is because not only he never submitted to officers; there might be that he was a black person. While the Hard Rock was treated badly, other inmates were very submissive to officers because they did not want to be treated in the same way as Hard Rock. He was forced under the strong power in the oppressive community, yet he had the power of perseverance and was very strong; hence, his attitude has not changed through the poem. The Hard Rock was a hero for other inmates because he was very strong, against the authority, and brought hope to other inmates in the poem Hard Rock Returns to Prison by Etheridge Knight. The Hard Rock was very strong. Hard Rock was standing every treatment he had, no matter how badly the treatment was; thus, his body was full of scars and welts. His treatment by officers and doctors were inhumane. For instances, he has cut his brain and shot electricity while he was operated by doctors to make him submissive. In addition, there was testing if Hard Rock had changed his attitude and submitted to officers, yet he has not changed. When analyzing the following strategies as a comparison, my finding results illustrate some similarities and some differences; however, these comparisons listed below: Original Jurisdiction consists of the judicial system having the authority to observe a case first before further examination of the evidence needing to decide in a higher courtroom setting. The objective here is to see if the evidence is worth sending up to a higher branch within the judicial system courts or for the courts to waive their rights due to speculation opposed to substantial evidence. These courts remain linked to with the Supreme Court, due to the higher level of court cases heard within the setting. For example Liberty Island, brought about a controversy as to which state the Statue of Liberty belong to New York or New Jersey (The New Jersey Society of Professional Land Surveyors, 2016). Appellate Jurisdiction: consist of the judicial system having the authority to observe the evidence in the court setting to seek out fault. The goal/objective here is to acknowledge those individuals responsible for wrongdoings, mistakes, and failure to comply with the law. The Court of Appeal served final verdict in the case of Reed v. Insofar as casinos generate additional business income, they might indirectly increase other forms of tax revenue. Insofar as they cannibalize sales from other businesses, they might decrease net tax revenue. • 19. What Impact Does A Difficult Temperament Have On Social... What impact does a difficult temperament have on social competence in preschool children? The ability to regulate emotions, thoughts, and behaviors while controlling impulses all have to do with self management and regulation. These social related skills are impacted by one s own temperament. Though temperament is believed to be present at birth, research indicates that there are many environmental factors that can influence temperament. Originally, research on temperament traits in young children were focused on a child s genetic disposition at birth. However; today, environmental influences are considered to be equally important to the influence of a child s temperament development as inborn predispositions. Temperament impacts the young child in many ways, especially in the development of social competence as it relates to the ability to empathize with others and in the development of relationship skills including ability to effectively communicate. Rudasill, Reio, and Stipanovic (2010) research also reiterated that teachers who create positive, nurturing, and affectionate classroom environments are more likely to have students who flourish and assert positive social skills when managing social and behavioral challenges. He may have been in his teens when he came to Constantinople. Under the sponsorship of his mother s brother, Justin, Petrus acquired a superior education. However, thanks to his Latin background, he evidently always spoke Greek with a notable accent. At this time, Justin was a highly ranked military commander, and Petrus was his favorite nephew. The younger man climbed the social ladder with a hand up from the older, and he held several important offices. Justinian arranged to marry Theodora, thereby acquiring an important helpmate and also giving his age one of its most striking personalities. The reign of Justinian was significant in many ways. Justinian tried to restore the empire to match the size that it was at the time of the Roman Empire. These immense military efforts did all but exhaust the empire s treasury. The Emperor Justinian had spread his Byzantine Empire around the rim of the Mediterranean and throughout Europe, laying the groundwork for what he hoped would be a long lived dynasty. His dreams were shattered when disease bearing mice from lower Egypt reached the harbor town of Pelusium in AD 540. From there, the devastating disease spread to Alexandria and to Constantinople. By the time, Justinian s plague had run its course in AD 590, it had killed as many as 100 million people, about half the population of Europe. It brought trade to a near halt, destroyed an empire. The famines and subsequent inflation that followed put the empire in trouble financially which also contributed to the shrinkage of the military force. • 22. Pride and Vanity in Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice Pride and Vanity in Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us. In her novel, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen makes the point that an excess of pride or vanity is indeed a failing. Pride, observed Mary, . . . is a very common failing, I believe. By all that I have ever read, I am convinced that it is very common indeed, that human nature is particularly prone to it, and that there are very few of us who do not cherish a feeling of self complacency on the score of some quality or another, real or imaginary. ... He is in no way concerned about his own opinion of his character, for as we see his character leaves much to be desired. All he cares about is what others think of him. He always needs the approval of his present company. When he gives Elizabeth the grand tour of his nothing spectacular home, he is looking for her approval of his position and possessions. It is not important to Mr. Collins for people to like him as a person, they just had better be impressed his status in life and his connections. Mr. Darcy, as one of the main characters, is for the better part of the novel a focus of the theme of pride. His pride is very obvious. It is a part of his nature and is seen in his mannerisms and in his speech. Darcy has such a high opinion of himself that he does not care what others think of him or his prideful actions. He believes that he is the best in every way possible and finds that his standing in society gives him the right to be critical of those not as perfect as he. Elizabeth Bennet, the other main character of the novel, is just as guilty of being proud as any of the other characters in the novel. She prides herself on being unprejudiced and rational in the judgement of others. Yet, this is an imaginary quality as she learns that her preconceived notions of both Mr. ... Education of the Black Male in America Essay Today s education is often viewed as failing in its goal of educating students, especially those students characterized as minorities, including African American, Hispanic, and Appalachian students (Quiroz, 1999). Among the minority groups mentioned, African American males are affected most adversely. Research has shown that when Black male students are compared to other students by gender and race they consistently rank lowest in academic achievement (Ogbu, 2003), have the worst attendance record (Voelkle, 1999), are suspended and expelled the most often (Raffaele Mendez, 2003; Staples, 1982), are most likely to drop out of school, and most often fail to graduate from high school or to earn a GED (Pinkney, 2000; Roderick, 2003). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is no single overriding factor to explain this lack of success, but most scholars and researchers point out that beginning in the colonial era and continuing through most of our nation s history, the experiences of Black males in White society have been so negative and psychologically damaging (Pinkney, 2000; Staples, 1982) that they have given birth to and nurtured a deep seated and tenacious belief in their own, and the entire Black community s, inferiority. At the beginning of this history, Black male slaves were looked upon by White society as the most undesirable and least trust worthy of people, and they were treated accordingly. Black male slaves were closely associated with and compared to animals, and were said to have a deceptive and violent nature and to be uncontrollable and in need of the whip (Kunjufu, 1986). Given this formative experience in slavery, the fact that Black males have continued to be disadvantaged from birth to death throughout our nation s short history hardly seems to need explanation. A Broader Problem that plagues Black males are not totally the responsibility of the public schools, but are a responsibility of society as a whole (Delpit, 1995). Writers especially brought out the opinions of they these radical ideas, by writing and spreading these ideas. At the Cadian Ball fails to advocate a change in the social system, by mixing races and classes, but at the same time, and supports the norm of marring someone of your own class, by have all four of the main characters marry into the same class. Within the story all the characters speak the same language, giving everyone an equal ground, showing that everyone has something in common. During the story the narrator tells us, They belonged to the younger generation, so preferred to speak English. (Chopin 6). This tells us that they all speak the same language, with shows that they are all similar, but we can also infer that because they state that they do this because they are younger, that the older generations, did not do this and strengthened the divide between classes by speaking different languages. The Cadian Ball advocates a change in the social class by featuring multi class and race couples, but does not fully support the statement by having the characters marry others of their class. They talked low, and laughed softly, as lovers do. (6) Alcee and Calixta are stated as lovers, even though this is the 1800s, there is a mixed race couple, but the story doesn t portray this negative. They also show ... The controversy surrounding magical realism makes the classification of what is and what is not very difficult. Gabriel García Márquez, a famous Latin American author, has written many pieces of what is generally conceived to be magical realism. A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings fulfills every characteristic of magical realism. The successful creation of such a world in the reader s mind requires skillful use of imagery, excellent development of the main character, style, and narration. People have many different beliefs of what an angel is supposed to look like. Márquez, not wanting his readers to stray away from what his own personal view of an angel in this story, uses imagery to clarify his perception of the angel. Márquez not only makes us see the old man, but also smell him, and feel the texture of his wings. In this illusion the lines in both A and B are the same length however the arrows pointing inwards in A make the line appear longer than when the arrows point outwards as in B. Gregory explained this illusion in 1970 by suggesting that the lines are perceived as being three dimensional rather than two dimensional. This is shown in figure 2 where A is shown as the inside of the room and B shown as the outside. By perceiving the objects in this way A becomes further away than B. However given that the lines are of the same size by applying the principle of size constancy it can be concluded that A is perceived as being longer than B. For this to be perceived knowledge about what the outside and inside of a building looks like must be taken into account. This therefore shows how prior knowledge is used when the image is perceived and so shows how the Muller Lyer illusion is perceived through top down processing. Similarly the  Necker Cube illusion (figure 3) can also be explained through top down processing. In this illusion the cube flips between two different interpretations of the picture whereby one of the faces of the cube can appear to be at the front of the cube but also can appear to be at the back of the cube. It s important to know what happened and remember the outcomes in our hearts, then put it to rest. Why keep it alive and let the wounds keep on burning? Showing, and talking about it, keeps it alive and as such, is an inspiration for the weak minds. We saw and heard the mimicking of those saddening episodes multiplying, instead than diminishing, not to mention the special interest that lies behind the feeding of the pain, orchestrated for the money that such recurrence can generate. What can be targeted as a negative impact shouldn t be kept alive, but replaced with a positive, for a positive inspiration as a simple and healthy equation. They say we have to remember the negative that was done. I say: I rather forget it, remembering a happy positive one, makes me feel better. What we are projecting with our minds, is what we get, the option selected and what derives out of it, is rightfully ours. We are wasting so much time, we are falling short in the progress of formulating a better world. The reasons for such a delay, is due to the politicians trapped in their contorted games played under the financial kingdom rules and the shortsightedness of their thousand dollar suit soldiers ruled by their unconscious fears. This could be a major factor in why the island was so heavily contested for hundreds of years; the island is arguably a great launching point for the French Navy to attack the British. With communication during this time period being relatively slow given the lack of modern technology, it would have been easy for the island to be captured by the French without mainland Britain immediately knowing. Thus, there was a great incentive on the part of the British to keep this island well defended so as to protect it from any potential French attacks. Such an assertion can be bolstered not only by the fact that Queen Elizabeth I decided to build a castle off the southern coast of the island in 1594, which could have been done to provide ample protection of the south coastline, but also the production of the map itself in 1600 which is now held by the Yale Center for British Art.
