Multicultural Education Essay
Multicultural Education
The inclusion of multiculturalism into schools has become an increasingly hot topic as of late.
Being a future teacher I have taken a natural interest in the topic as well. It seems that most of the
push to incorporate the multicultural issue into the school system has been a reaction to the
thought that the American melting pot metaphor is on the decline. Knowing that the demographics
of the United States is changing continuously, the main issue about the inclusion of
multiculturalism is not whether to place it into the schools, but rather how to position this
controversial topic into the curriculum. Many people think that the incorporation of
multiculturalism must begin with the teacher education ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
18). Glazer goes on to say that the push for an inclusive system came from the growing number of
black students and black educators in the white school system, where white educators adopted a
more sympathetic attitude towards the idea (Munroe, 2000, p. 19). A recent study by Anita Bohn
documented that the concern of multiculturalism is on the decline among both teachers and
administrators (Sleeter, 2000,p. 156). Bohn stated that these are, ...early warning signs that the
multicultural education reform movement is in peril, (Sleeter, 2000, p. 156). When trying to
understand all of this information, one must understand that multicultural education is not a program
(Sleeter, 2000, p. 156). It is not and cannot be addressed sufficiently by any set of state or national
standards, or by any textbook series, so that it will no longer require our sustained attention as
educators. Multicultural education is a critical forum for reforming schools in ways that support
pluralism and equity, (Sleeter, 2000, p. 157). Basically, these authors are telling us that this subject
is not taken seriously by all, but the real difficulty lies in trying to create guidelines for multicultural
education s incorporation.
Julie Kailin brings about another historical aspect of multicultural education in her article that is

The Usefulness Of Viral Vectors
The Usefulness of Viral Vectors in Treating Dravet Syndrome
Voltage gated sodium channels initiate the development action potentials in neurons; mutations of
genes encoding these channels are responsible for genetic epilepsy syndromes with varying
degrees of severity1. Dravet syndrome, or severe myoclonic epilepsy of infancy (SMEI), is a
complex and severe form of childhood epilepsy, caused by a nonsense mutation in the sodium
voltage gated channel alpha subunit 1 (SCN1a) gene. Severe loss of function mutation in Nav1.1
causes SMEI, which involves intractable epilepsy, ataxia, and cognitive impairment 1. It is
important to study this disease because of its early mortality in children and because of its high
resistance to drug therapy 2. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adeno associated viral vectors (AAV):
Adeno associated viral vectors are non enveloped single stranded DNA viruses used in treating
diseases of the central nervous system 3. AAV vectors have been widely used in clinical trials to
deliver therapeutic genes to mutated ones, and are efficient and safe in vivo application3. However
one major drawback is the limited packaging capacity for genes with larger sizes 3. Fortunately, this
can be overcome with the treatment of the dystrophin gene (DMD), which encodes the cohesive
protein dystrophin that supports the cytoskeleton of a cell3. There are two methods can be used
with AAV vectors to decrease the duration of epilepsy: inducing somatostatin into AAV vectors and
direct injection of glial targeting AAV vectors.
Method 1:
Somatostatin (SST) is a neuromodulator known to have diverse functions in sleep and motor
activity and it plays a putative anticonvulsant role, such as in maintaining hippocampal
homeostasis4. Some studies have suggested that AAV vector mediated expression of SST
suppresses hippocampus related seizure development in rats4. Viral vector gene therapy using SST
as an anti seizure related neuropeptide in a kindling model of epilepsy was implemented, where
over successive electrical stimulation of the same intensity, seizures evolve from partial to
generalized states 4. The duration of seizures was lower for the vector infused with SST (pAAV
CBa SST), than compared to the vector that was

The Old Guitarists In Laurie Adams A History Of Western Art
In Laurie Adams A History of Western Art there are pieces of art that have lots of meaning and
representations one in particular being Pablo Picasso s drawing titled The Old Guitarist (468).
The image chosen shows a man sitting on the ground, wearing tattered clothes and playing a
guitar. Looking closely, the man s frame appears long and bony, paired with tattered clothes. His
face looks sad and glum while his body seems to be leaning in, listening intently to his guitar as
his hands go over the strings. The major point for choosing this image is for the fact that the artist,
Picasso, chose to represent the image using only shades of blue. Idioms are words or phrases that
are taken for its literal term when instead it means something completely

Cocletzi Research Paper
Rachael Goodson Paper Discussion #2, Spring 2018 Summary of Cocletzi Paper This paper was
about the bidirectional anatomical effects of mistletoe host the sweet gum tree (L. styraciflua) and
the Mexican royal oak (Q. germana). The main reason that the researchers wanted to do this study
was because while multiple studies have been completed on how a parasite effects the host little
has been done to study the effect of the host on the parasite. The researchers used standard
techniques for light and transmission electron microscopes to study the effect of mistletoe on the
sweet gum tree and the Mexican royal oak and vice versa. The key results for this paper were as

Schemas Observation
After watching the video demonstration: Schemas that was associated with chapter 8 I realized
that the first group of students were acting out the Schemas of a first date. I was able to make
this distinction because the male and female in the video were acting as if they didn t know
each other very well while seated at an invisible table, the 3rd student was acting as a waiter
which was made clear when he took their order. The only non verbal communication that I
observed in this scenario was when the waiter placed two invisible glasses of water down on the
invisible table, which confirmed that the couple was, in fact, seated at a dinner table. The second
set of students were acting out a day at the movie theater, this was implied by the

Origins of the Pelopponesian War Essay
The Peloponnesian war involved Greece s two most prominent city states, Athens and Sparta,
between 431 404 BC. Both Athens and Sparta held numerous alliances, causing essentially the
entire ancient Greek world to be engulfed in war. There were many events that sparked the feud
between the Athenians and the Peloponnesian league and made war inevitable. The Peloponnesian
warwas perhaps one of the most momentous wars of its time and was primarily caused by both
Spartaand Athens interfering in events between their respective allies. A notable occasion was
Athens intervening in a dispute between Spartans ally, Corinth, and her colony Corcyra over the city
of Epidaurus. The revolt of Potidaea against Athens and the Peloponnesian Leagues... Show more

They firstly argued that an alliance would create an obligation for Corcyra to always assist
Athens throughout the impending war. Secondly that an alliance would assure that Corcyra

Athens on the route to Sicily . Thirdly they argued the naval power Corcyra would provide
Athens would be indispensable, evident in Thucydides Histories as he documents a Corcyreans

perhaps one of the most prominent statesmen and generals of Athens and is a highly regarded
source for the Peloponnesian war. After being convinced by the threat that if they did not help
Corcyra that Corinth and therefore the Peloponnesian league would absorb its fleet, Athens
became allies with Corcyra . Athens came to Corcyra s aid when Corinth attacked a fleet of ships
off a group of islands known as Sybota. The war of Sybota officiated that Athens and Corinth were
fighting, causing tensions to rise between Athens and the Peloponnesian league. This anguish
between Corinth and Corcyra was a long term cause of the war as their strife rippled through the
Greek world and primarily triggered all events that followed it. The now present tension was
amplified as problems arose in Potidaea.
The city of Potidaea was both a member of the Athenian alliance and a Corinthian colony,

The Main Types Of Market Research
Introduction
For this first assignment I will provide a manual that shows the main types of market research.
Market research is the method of gathering and analyse information about customers, competitors
and the market. Market research is used when companies want to focus on things like market
trends, customer habits and lifestyle, what price customers will pay for a product and what
competition exists. This type of research assists companies build an idea on how competitive the
market is also business owners can price their products efficiently with the understanding of the
current market research.
Primary research
This involves the collection of new information for a specific purpose. The following are 3
examples of various methods ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eg: changing the price of a product and seeing what happens. The advantages of using
experiments is that you can create real world, concrete and verifiable findings that can be
repeated. This is the most believable way for a general populous to accept a finding of a research
team. There are also disadvantages like high costs of performing experiments and it can also be
dangerous. In addition, experimentation can involve a long period of time waiting for something to
happen; oftentimes, multiple trials are needed to confirm findings.
3. Surveys, surveys are one of the most frequently used methods of market research. It typically
involves the use of a questionnaire (enquette). There are several ways of conducting a survey, I
chose for face to face. This is the best form of contact. It allows two way communication between
researcher and respondent. Eg: A questionnaire asks people in the streets a few question/opinion.
The advantages of using surveys is that it is flexible, gestures, facial and other expressions may be
noted. The disadvantage of face to face is that it may become distorted as a result of the
interpersonal relationships between interviewer and interviewee
Secondary research
Secondary research involves using existing information rather than finding out new information.
The two main sources of secondary research are: 2 types: internal (Information that

Adult Child Behavior
Child Behavioral Guidance in an Adult Figure
Some children seem to be in the behavior system for many schools all over the country. The child
may not have an adult figure in his or her life, developing bad and dangerous traits from bad
influences at a young age and never learning the importance of respect and control. These traits
decreases the chance of earning a job and also increases the incarceration rate and the chance of
being on the street after or even before high school. When children are open to violence and are not
parented, the student shows consistent bad behavior leading the child into terrible situations.
Parental decisions, traumatic issues, and lack of communication can have a child go from being an
important role in society to being in a juvenile detention system or becoming another stereotypical
statistic. An adult figure can change the lives of children making the economy better.
Parental Decisions Parents have the decision to allow their children to play video games and watch
movies that have violent behavior and aggressive language. Some parents have no filter in their
child s media ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parents need to make sure that the child is watching child level movies. Most movies have
violence as their last resort but some show violence to get their which is a bad way to enhance a
child s learning. It makes the believe that violence is a way of getting things easily. This gives the
child a bad reputation. If this continues without a guardian telling them that it is wrong the child
will only understand violence. When children hear things they tend to copy it. The child may hear
curse words in the movie and will repeat it in school. When famous people say these things the
child may think that it makes them look and seem cool but it is actually the complete opposite. The
very harsh comments and actions can influence the child

unexpected occurred really happened. It appeared to be a very informal meeting that everyone
seemed to already be acquainted. All the members directed each other by name and I was
welcomed by, what seemed to be, a regular attendee as well as a new member. I sat down and

This put the topic more towards forgiveness rather than anything else. The only topic discussed,
as I recall, was forgiveness. Many members gave their accounts of moments in which they felt
sorry and how they handled the situation. I will refrain from going into further detail about any
of the members of the group to keep their anonymity. The meeting concluded with the serenity
prayer. I was not familiar with this prayer so I just held the hands of those near me and bowed
my head out of respect. Specific attendees of the meetings appeared more active and attentive
than others. Some of them seemed as though they did not want to be there and looked miserable.
About one or two of the members even fell asleep a couple of times. Maybe some members went
because they had to or because they just wanted to help tell themselves that they are trying. This
really interested me because it is important to take notice that some people go and progress due
to being active and others are just forced. In the case of being forced it is very easy to go to the
meeting and just not be attentive or active. During the meeting I felt very enlightened. The topic
of forgiveness is very broad and is even relevant in my own life. The viewpoint on the topic was
very different and interesting. They talked more about being forgiving of ourselves because we
are the ones that cause ourselves to react negatively to life s daily hassles and stressors. They also
spoke on the control

Evaluate the impact of the Khmer Rouge on Cambodian society from 1975 1979
Cambodia became one huge labor camp under the Khmer Rouge. After deposing Lon Nol on 1975,
the Khmer Rouge, led by Pol Pot began one of the most brutal regimes in human history. This not
only changed the Cambodian society but also ultimately destroyed it. This was due to the extreme
vision of communism, which Pol Pot wanted to implement for a perfect and a peaceful society.
Prince Norodom Sihanouk always tried to maintain Cambodia s neutrality. But with Laos and
Vietnam as its borders, he knew this was impossible. After the assassination of Diem in South
Vietnam, Sihanouk condemned America s policies; in turn he allowed Viet Cong bases in
Cambodia. America in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Khmer Rouge wished to change Cambodian society completely by taking it back to a pre
industrial, rural economy. Agriculture was of supreme importance; therefore, everyone had to
work together on collective farms. Hence there was a massive evacuation of the cities and the
relocation of many villages, was to turn Cambodia into one huge labor camp which affected the
country and its people severely.
Families were separated and kept moving people from one zone to another in order to achieve
three goals: to destroy a person s individuality; to eliminate the human will to resist; and to
promote fear, confusion and anxiety via indiscriminate violence. Villages were controlled by
Khmer Rouge soldiers, the most frightening were the 12 and 13 year old Khmer Rouge soldiers,
because they did not have any humanity, they didn t believe in God, in Buddha, only what the

Extraction of Chlorophyll from Spinach Leaves
2 15 11
Purpose:
The purpose of this experiment was to take spinach leaves and extract the chlorophyll and
carotenoid pigments by using acetone as the solvent. The chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments were
extracted by using column chromography and alumina was used as the solvent. Solvents of
different polarities were used, starting with the least polar, to extract the certain components from
the leaves. They were then analyzed by using thin layer chromatography.
Procedure:
The first part of the experiment dealt with breaking down the spinach leaves in a mortar and

If a plea agreement is not reached, the case may go to an Adjudication Hearing (also called Fact
finding. All parties to the case, including the prosecution witnesses and defense witnesses, will be
subpoenaed (summoned) to testify before a Judge. Witnesses may be excluded from the courtroom
until they are finished testifying (Clallam County, 2011). The argument for this rule is to ensure
that a witness is not influenced by the testimony of another witness. If you are a victim, you have
the right to be present throughout the hearing. Since there are no jury trials in juvenile court, the
Judge will determine whether or not the juvenile is innocent or guilty of committing a delinquent
act after hearing the facts of the case. At the Adjudication Hearing, the prosecution and the defense
may make opening statements to the Judge to explain the case. The Juvenile Prosecutor then
presents the case against the juvenile respondent. It is the responsibility of the State to prove
beyond a reasonable doubt that a delinquent act was committed and the juvenile respondent is
guilty of committing the act (Clallam County, 2012). To meet this burden of proof, the Juvenile
Prosecutor presents evidence and calls witnesses to testify. Witnesses are required to testify under
oath and may be cross examined by the juvenile s defense attorney.
After the prosecutor presents the case against the juvenile respondent, the defense

The rise of great nations is a result of its citizens coming together to consider the all the

the concept of happiness, I believe that as far as the country is not fighting a war and racial

The Principles Purpose of Interactive Design published by Jamie Steane in 2014, as well as, the

This research has primarily emphasized the importance of CSR to both individuals and the

CSR line up with their concurrent expectations from the company? The literature shows little
agreement; definitions are murky and left to individualized scholars, and evaluation of company s
efforts, as previously discussed, are difficult to present to major shareholders within a company, to
say nothing of informing consumers. Consumer Perceptions Those who are being served (i.e.

Walther et al. (2010) presented an interesting caveat to this discussion of consumer population
makeup, with consumers both informed and casual responding to cues at the point of sale.
However, this study forms a stopgap towards a truly symbiotic relationship with consumers. As
with major issues in society, a major panacea exists in the form of proper education. A recent
study showed that sound and informative communication channels based in information
stemming from food purchases could effectively induce consumers to consider brands actively
participating in CSR initiative (Devviney et al., 2010). Mohr et al. (2001) executed interviews to
investigate what consumers believe to be the real motives of firms to engage in CSR. Mohr et
al. created four categories of company motives based on the answers of the respondents: (1)
rewards sought for the firm itself, (2) rewards sought mostly for the firm but partly for others,
(3) rewards sought mostly for others but partly for the firm, and (4) rewards sought solely for
others (p. 59). The results of Mohr et al. (2001) indicate that only 7% (3 out of 41 respondents)

The Development of Nationalist Ideas Within Sikh Community...
Introduction
After the bloodshed among devotees of different faiths resided in South Asia, India, though
partitioned, at last gained independence in 1947. Even if it was stated that this new born country
will be a secular state, the majority of population was regarded as Hindus and fear of possible
subordination of other communities was displayed. The majority of Muslims who supported
All India Muslim League led by Muhammad Ali Jinnah moved to Pakistan where the whole
governmental system was built to maintain and develop Muslim society. It seemed that both Hindu

Mughal Empire started to decline in XVIII c. and it capacitated the rise of successor states. From
1799 Ranjit Singh started unification of the territories in Punjab where Sikhs formed dominant
element in the ruling class. Hindus and Muslims were not eliminated from the society but Sikhs
received much larger share then they did. Agriculture, trade and manufacturing were revived.
Arts and literature took distinctive shape; Ranjit Singh encouraged historical literature in Persian
what indicates that Persian language was still the language of authorities and ruling power. But
some works appears in Punjabi, too. The Empire of Ranjit Singh existed only until 1849 when it
was taken over by British who had already established their political control over the rest of the

revival of Sikh nationalism in XX c and was one of the factors in revitalizing solidarity and unity
among Sikhs.

Theme Of Sonnet 130 And Crazy Jane Talks With The Bishop
There are many things in this world that we choose to partake in for our own personal pleasures.
A sense of harmless, humorous rebellion lied within the heart of profound writers in more
historical times of literature who made it their preference to take the more parodical route towards
their audience. In Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare and Crazy Jane Talks with the Bishop by
William Butler Yeats, it is evident that both well astounding poets chose to venture into delivering a
less cliche message to their audiencewhilst providing a story that matches a true form of reality. A
theme of delivering the truth is well embedded into the stanzas of the two different poems and
can be overlooked if not carefully analyzed. Although Shakespeare did a phenomenal job of
portraying the beauty of an imperfect woman instead of the cliche ways of a common love
sequence, it is more important to divulge into a fascinating confrontation within Crazy Jane Talks
with the Bishop. In the poem, a glimpse of the conversation between the Bishop and a woman,
whose appearance called for the Bishop s unwelcomed input, is illustrated within the lines of the
stanzas. The bishop went to tell the woman that her appearance made her appear that she lived in
some foul sty. Hence the bishop judging her, the woman was led to defend herself against the
strikes against her character. She began to expose the truth to the Bishop by explaining that fair
needs foul , and that the way that she chooses to

Roethke s Smart Balance of Joy, Fear and Tension in His...
Inevitability at one point in most of our lives we have to deal with some type of hardship. A lot
of us have experienced first hand or known someone who has had the unfortunate experience of
dealing with a close friend or family member who becomes abusive and aggressive because of drug
or alcohol related problems. My Papa s waltzis a poem that tells the story of a young boydealing
with an abusive father and a broken home. Despite the initial light atmosphere of the poem
Theodore Roethke uses strong and powerful language to convey an underlined meaning to their

Someone has to lead in a waltz, which highlights the father s control over the small boy. It isn t
because the boy is being led, but instead the way the father is leading is what makes the dance
not easy. Roethke uses the verb waltz to impose a sense of joy to the poem, because on literal level
the waltz should be easy and smooth, but for the boy and his father it isn t because apparently, their
lives together aren t easy. Continuing the tone of the first stanza, in the second stanza of the poem
the word romped makes their waltz sound carefree, but they romped until the pans/ Slid from the
kitchen shelf. Lines 5 and 6 show how their waltz is causing a violent disruption in their home that
even the boys mother could not tolerate. Again with something that sounds as care free as dancing
with your father Roethke implies an undertone of disturbance and violence that is inevitably taking
a toll on their family and home life. Likewise in the third stanza the speaker mentions that the hand
that held his wrist was battered on one knuckle. Undoubtedly, a hand holding a wrist is more
aggressive and dominant than just a hand holding a hand like in a typical waltz, which is suppose
to a smooth and easy glide. The fathers hand holding the speakers wrist shows both the difference in
the size of their hands and that the speaker waltzes unwillingly. The fact that Roethke chooses the

Sea Creatures in the Ocean
There are many different creatures in the ocean. They are categorized into 3 different groups that
are Zooplankton, Nekton, and Benthos. In the ocean the zooplankton eat phytoplanktons.
Zooplankton are eaten by all of the larger animals. Phytoplankton self reproduce so they don t
need to eat other things. They create their own food. The Nekton eat the zooplankton because it
is a smaller species than the rest. Some of the most dangerous animals to both humans and other
sea animals are Leopard Seals. Leopard Seals are the second largest species in the Antarctic. The
Sea Leopard can be found mainly in Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, and the Atlantic
Ocean. It is estimated to live 26 years, some sea leopards live beyond 26 years of age. Leopard
seals mainly eat other seals, penguins, fishand krill.
The leopard seal is a big animal with a dark grey back and a white stomach. It was given the
name leopard seal because it has spots on its throat. Their front teeth are sharp and their teeth
lock in a way so they can kill easier and keep the other fish in it s mouth if it wasn t completely
dead. The leopard seal can usually be found in a pack. It spends most of the time in the water.
Leopard seals don t make much noise except a few grunts and it sometimes growls. A torpedo

Comparing Hammurapi s Laws And The Book Of Exodus
Goring Ox Law Many people do not realize how many laws people had to follow in the ancient
east. The Hammurapi s Laws and the readings from Exodus 21 23 have many similar qualities.
But just like everything else they can be analyzed differently when they are being compared.
While throughout both readings they talk about the goring ox law. And seeing how that one
specific law can be viewed differently it shows how unlike the two places were. In one place they
were realizing how much God does for them, and how he provides to them if they follow his laws or
commandments. Whereas in the other (around Hammurapi) location Hammurapi just talks about
they are following the laws, and them getting nothing in return. In the book of Exodus, it shows how

For example, in The New Interpreter s Study Bible it shows just that If the ox has been
accustomed to gore in the past and its owner has been warned but has not restrained it, and it
kills a man or a woman, the ox should be stoned, and its owner shall be put to death. And that is
the same in Hammurapi s Laws as well. But what also is noticed is that if you have money you
can pay off your death. As it is stated in Exodus 20 40, the owner of that ox can pay for
redemption If ransom is laid upon him (the owner of the ox), he must pay whatever is laid upon
him to redeem his life. The NRSV rendering ... the owner shall pay whatever is imposed for the
redemption of the victim s life. It does not seem right because the victim is dead so the money
should not count for it. But it goes into explaining that the victims life is an interpretative
addition. And throughout those two examples, you can see that the owner of the ox is only
penalized if he knows his ox is killing people. If he does not know that his ox is killing people he
does not get penalized or in other words put to death. Also, the ox is only killed if the owner
knows about it. If the authorities do not contact the owner then the ox lives. In the bible the slave s
lives are more valued then when they were killed

This is the bottom line that garners most of the attention in discussions of a company s
profitability. The net profit margin (net margin) compares net income to sales, such that: Net
profit margin = net income after taxes ÷ sales A consistently high net margin is often indicative
of a company with one or more competitive advantages. Furthermore, a high net margin provides a
company with a cushion during downturns in its business. Margin Analysis When analyzing
profit margins, it is useful to examine the trends for individual companies over time as well as to
compare a company s levels to its competitors and to industry norms. However, it is important to
note that margins can differ drastically from company to company and industry to industry. Some
industries, historically, have much higher margins relative to others. For this reason, when
comparing companies on the basis of their profit margins, it is vital to compare firms in
similar lines of business. Differences in margins for companies in the same industry provide
insights into industry and company specific cost structures. Table 1 presents the gross margins,

Classifiers for Emotional Speech Recognition Jimmy Dani
Abstract Recently, increasing attention has been directed to the study of the emotional content of
speech signals, and hence, many systems have been pro posed to identify the emotional content of a
spoken utterance. There are various important aspects of emotion recognition using speech. The
first one is the choice of suitable features for speech representation. The second issue is the design

A better feature extracted is half success in speech emotional recognition, and then we take the
follow three issues into consideration for this problem. The first issue is to consider what the better
feature types to implement the recognition classifier are. The first step is to extract the related
speech features with potential value for emotion recognition. Prosodic speech features such as pitch,
energy, duration and statistics values like mean, median, minimum, maximum, range, variance
calculated from them are widely used [3] [4]. Besides, other commonly employed features are
related to ZCR, formants, as well as MFCCs. Lately, some researchers also take Voice Quality into

but there is still much room for improvement. Therefore, some researchers have proposed some
new features, such as harmony features [2]. Some researchers also consider in combination
acoustic features with other speech features such as semantic features (individual keywords), and
facial expression could be a good choice. Dimensionality reduction is indispensable, thus the
second issue is further to get optimal features sets with minimal completeness. This stage aims to
reduce the size of the extracted speech feature set by selecting the most valuable subset of features
and removing the irrelevant ones. Its not easy to give universal and effec

Pros And Disadvantages Of Proprietary Software
When I started working at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab in 1971, I became part of a
software sharing community that had existed for many years. Sharing of software was not limited
to our particular community; it is as old as computers, just as sharing of recipes is as old as cooking.
A nondisclosure agreement means de facto that you promise not to help your neighbor, denying a
community who cooperates to achieve goals. If you share with your neighbor, you are a pirate. If
you want any changes, beg us to make them. [* page 18]

In any case free does not imply a non commercial software, but only a software on which you have

Free software is growing, but not for the right reason (we must talk about free software) [31]
It is true that people approaching free software are growing this because users find some practical
advantages in using it. This is great, because with this rising interest also affects companies, that are
stimulated to develop free programs instead proprietary ones, with the consequence of enlarging the
catchment area even further.
Perhaps, the most difficult thing is not to attract new users to adopt free software, but is doing
that for the right motive aside for the practical reasons, which is the embrace the philosophy
behind free software: freedom. This is a crucial point if we want to have a conscious community
and not only one large in numbers. There is a need of people who are willing to fight to

Dissociative Identity Disorder In Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde
Dissociative Identity Disorder in Robert Louis Stevenson s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and
Mr. Hyde This article was written by Rokeya Sarker Rita about the best selling novel, Dr. Jekyll
and Mr. Hyde. The earliest case of DID came about in the nineteenth century in Europe and was
dealt with by Pierre Janet, a philosopher and psychologist. Around that time, the information on
DID was practically nonexistent so Rita wanted to see how accurate the depiction of DID was in
the novel. She uses research from back then, research from this time and references from the novel

inspiration from it for his novel. He fond it interesting that he had simultaneous yet slightly

Tyranny Pros And Cons
Tyranny is the cruel manner in which one person rises above and takes over all control, whether it
be of a nation, a country, or just a small group of people. Without the constitution, tyrants would be
rising all over, fighting to take control. Tyranny was first recorded in Athens Greece, in the 6th
century B.C. when Peisistratus arose and tried to take control. After several failed attempts, he
finally took control in 546 B.C. He ruled until his death in 527 B.C. The constitution does not want
acts of tyranny to be repeated, so they try to guard against it. The constitution prevents tyranny

Persuasive Essay On Cheating On Homework
In Survey I, 91.9% of the participants reported that they have cheated on at least one homework
assignment; however, when asked why they receive answers, 13.5% of the participants stated that
they do not receive answers (Appendix D). Therefore, it can be concluded that some students
believe that cheating on homework assignments is not considered as immoral. This may further
explain why students cheat.
Furthermore, 91.9% of students reported cheating at least once, albeit 51.4% of students stating
that it s bothersome when others cheat (Appendix D). This is due to self serving bias, which is
when people blame other individuals when their action negatively affects them, while they blame
the situation when their act negatively affects others (Boyes, 2013). For example, if someone gets
into a car accident, one automatically assumes that person is a bad driver, while if one gets into a
car accident himself, one will find excuses and say it was not their own fault. Similarly, when a
student cheats in high school, they find reasons to justify that action, even when they know it is
wrong, which is the case with 62.2% of students in this survey (Appendix D). However, when
another student cheats in the same class, it is bothersome to some students because they see it as
unfair and disrespectful on the student s part.
Moreover, 24.3% of students reported that they cheat because they want to help their friends out

How Did Benito Mussolini Contribute To The Rise Of Fascism

Fascism and Nazism Rise
During World War Two, the Axis powers were ran by two different kinds of government ideas. In
Germany the government was Nazism raised by their leader Adolf Hitler. In Italy there was
Fascism ruled by their leader Benito Mussolini. Fascism and Nazism appealed to the people
because how they were living during the time the two came to power. The two main reasons that
made them so appealing were the nationalistic feeling which rose in people and the feeling of a
better lifestyle during economic troubles. These different strategies of government presented false
promises to desperate people.
Fascism was widely practiced in Italy after World War One and during World War Two. The leader
credited for the idea of fascism in Italy was Benito Mussolini. Fascism is described as a radical
authoritarian nationalism that came to prominence in early twentieth century Europe ( Wikipedia).

It was also referred to as National Socialism. The oppressed leader of the Nazi Party and of
Germany during the second world war was Adolf Hitler. Nazism supporters believed they were the
superior race in all the world. The true definition of Nazism is The ideology and practice of the
Nazis, especially the policy of racist nationalism, national expansion, and state control of the
economy (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Nazism). The Nazi Party won the people s support
after World War One when economic crisis hit Germany. The German democratic government
was not strong enough for this crisis and a new group was elected into power. With the Nazi party
in control, the people started to believe they were the superior race. Hitler was able to convince
the German people they were the better race by succeeding in the Olympics that year. Germany
won most of the medals at the Olympic games with

How Perseverance Has Changed People s Life
Perseverance has changed many people s lives and people have even made livings from
persevering. Perseverance is doing something despite difficulty, or delay in achieving success.
Anne Frank , Steve Jobs and Derek Redmond are all examples of people who persevered to
succeed in what their goals were. Anne Frank is probably one of the most known person for
perservening. She spent almost 2 years in an attic with 7 other people, to hide from the Nazis
who were taking over many countries. Anne, despite everything happening, she still found ways
to do her school work and all of her lessons. She also did all of her chores while also overcoming all
of the odds, she wrote a journal about all the things that have changed in her life about the

Nietzsche Good Vs Evil
The Good, The Bad, and The Jealous:
An Examination of Ressentiment, according to Nietzsche
In his book, Genealogy of Morals, Nietzsche examines the origins of Good and Evil. He postures
that these two concepts are derived from language, rather than essential morality. He argues that
people label things as good or evil based upon their personal feelings and position of privilege.
Douglas Smith translated this edition of Genealogy of Morals into English, but he also included
explanations of some of Nietzsche s key concepts. According to Smith, A central concept in
Nietzsche s argument, ressentiment is the essence of slave morality, a purely reactive mode of
feeling which simply negates the active and spontaneous affirmation of values on the part of the
nobility (142). Ressentiment stems from the oppressed party s jealousy. The oppressed do not
accept that it is bad that they do not have the luxuries and rights that the nobility posses. Instead, the
oppressed use ressentiment, flip the moral spectrum, and declare that those luxuries are evil. The
oppressed class (or at least the class that perceives itself to be as such), uses ressentiment to make
itself feel better and to have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That lambs bear ill will towards large birds of prey is hardly strange: but is in itself no reason to
blame large birds of prey for making off with little lambs (29) In this example, the lambs are the
oppressed group. They impose morality onto the birds of prey, saying These birds of prey are
evil; and whoever is as little of a bird of prey as possible, indeed, rather the opposite, a lamb
should he not be said to be good? (29). In order to make themselves feel better about getting eaten,
the lambs tell themselves that they the lambs are morally superior, good, and right, while the birds

However, sand is not the only material needed for making glass containers. Other materials are
also added to the process to help glass with its working properties at high temperatures and to
provide it with chemical resistance in use(Saint Gobain). In addition to new raw material, Saint
Gobain Containers is also a Green Company which uses as much recycled glass as possible.
Glass is one of the few packaging materials that can be recycled indefinitely (Saint Gobain).
Melting Glass melting is a HOT process. When melting glass a continuous heat of over 2500
degrees Fahrenheit is needed in order to obtain optimal quality. This is done by Saint Gobain
Containers by using reliable energy resources such as natural gas and occasionally fuel oil.
Being a Green Company includes using energy resources which provide low emissions. Natural
gas provides a low emissions level and thus is Saint Gobain Containers main source of heating
energy. This is also less expensive overall when compared to oil fuels. Other energy comes from
an electric boost which is used to operate machinery and air supplies for the heating sources. Using
efficient heating sources has been one of the leading factors in lowering the operating cost of Saint
Gobain Containers in the last two years.

Once the heating process is completed conditioning must take place in order

Assembling The Clarinet
The clarinet is a woodwind instrument that are typically used for orchestral bands, jazz bands, and
other genres of bands.
There are five pieces to the clarinet, the mouthpiece, barrel, upper joint, lower joint, and the bell.
Assembling a clarinet at first seems quite difficult because it has the most pieces in the woodwind
family, but in actuality it is quite easy once you do it once or twice. When you assemble, clarinet
players typically start with the bottom and up. Although there is not wrong a way to assemble the
clarinet, as it will not affect sound. Assuming if you start from the bottom up, you d first need to
take the bell. You will attach the bell piece to the lower joint. To attach the upper joint and lower
joint together, you must

Best One Mission Statement
The Best One hotel franchise is due for evaluation statewide. The hotel is a three star hotel that is
known for its convenience and comfort. The mission statement of Best One describes its intentions.
Mission Statement: We want you to feel at home because there is no place like home but the
BEST ONE we are family. However, during the evaluation it was discovered that the Best One
hotelshad several complaints. The complaints stem from the front desk of customers having
negative experiences, periods of long waiting time, in correct billing charges, possibly credit card
identity theft, improper prepared bills, and rude service. Because the discrepancies found within the

If in fact the Mission statement suggest that the hotel is a no place like home then it would be
understood that all leadership from the least to the greatest make it their business to embrace the
mission and treat all like family whether that be customers and/or staff members. As the strategic
leader, the direction of the company will be to maintain its current mission but assess the thoughts
of every staff member and their objectives to maintaining the why. There is really nothing wrong
with the mission statement because it is straight to the point and very simplistic. However, what
appears to be the problem may be communication gaps or followers have just gotten bored or tired
following the mission statement. For instance, that the increased attention given to the workers by
management and researchers was the key to increased productivity (Eisenberg Goodall, 2004, p. 73).

The Movie The Pact
The ones I sympathize with When I read The Pact , I felt some connection between the
characters; Sampson Davis, George Jenkins, and Hunt Rameck. Throughout their hardship and
struggles, It encouraged me to read on. But as I continued reading on, the three main characters
stood out the most. But out of those three characters, one stood out in particular. Throughout his
experiences and trials, I could see myself in that situation. In how he felt, in the manner in how
he saw things around, I could see how I would have done the same thing myself. Dr. Hunt is
someone I could relate to, someone I could see becoming friends with. There was a few
encounters that I have had that is similar to Hunt s experiences. If I had a bad grade, I had a butt
whuppin coming. Feeling pressure of doing something criminal just to impress some people that
I wasn t ever close to or even consider calling them friend. Being lovesick for someone, wanting
them back. Have her but letting her go because of school and home complications. But the one
experience that got me was when Mr. Hunt s grandmother die. Even though I m not a doctor, I
still felt the same helplessness that he felt when I saw my grandfather lying in bed, with my
grandmother crying by his bedside. The man I called papa was my grandfather, my mentor, and
my friend. Always a great example for what exceptional leader was. With noble integrity and a
unique sense of human responsibility, always taking care of others. He was always

School Board Meeting
The school board meeting I attended was the Norris School District. The meeting was located at
Norris Middle School in the Mary Louise Robinson Library. The address was 6940 Calloway Dr.
at seven PM. The Norris school district contains four elementary schools and one middle school.
Total number of elected board members are five. The board president is Cy Silver. They meet
once a month on the second Wednesday. The board is required to address the reports from
superintendent and staff. Such as enrollment, district proposition 39 California clean energy job
acts funding, district cafeteria report, local control accountability plan progress report. They also
discuss new business such as approving budgets and achievements. The general format of the
meeting is the board members sit in the front of the general attendees and the president sits in the
middle of all the board members. Staff members sit to the right and left of the board members. The
atmosphere was very welcoming, and they spoke of the business like they actually cared. They
spent about one hour discussing the cafeteria report. I thought this was quite interesting. They care
that the kids are not eating, and want to make a plan to buy better food that the kids will actually eat.

Ninety percent of all the board members, staff, and attendees were white. There is nothing wrong
with that, but it just proves what the textbook mentions. It was a huge comparison than when I
attended a school district meeting in a poverty district. It is different because there was parents
attending the meeting in Norris, and the business they discuss is different as well. All of the
members were friendly and respectful with each other. There has to be more diversity in all of the
districts. They talked about cafeteria food for an hour, it seems surprising to me because I could
only wish all of the school districts biggest concern would be what the kids

  • 2. Multicultural Education Essay Multicultural Education The inclusion of multiculturalism into schools has become an increasingly hot topic as of late. Being a future teacher I have taken a natural interest in the topic as well. It seems that most of the push to incorporate the multicultural issue into the school system has been a reaction to the thought that the American melting pot metaphor is on the decline. Knowing that the demographics of the United States is changing continuously, the main issue about the inclusion of multiculturalism is not whether to place it into the schools, but rather how to position this controversial topic into the curriculum. Many people think that the incorporation of multiculturalism must begin with the teacher education ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 18). Glazer goes on to say that the push for an inclusive system came from the growing number of black students and black educators in the white school system, where white educators adopted a more sympathetic attitude towards the idea (Munroe, 2000, p. 19). A recent study by Anita Bohn documented that the concern of multiculturalism is on the decline among both teachers and administrators (Sleeter, 2000,p. 156). Bohn stated that these are, ...early warning signs that the multicultural education reform movement is in peril, (Sleeter, 2000, p. 156). When trying to understand all of this information, one must understand that multicultural education is not a program (Sleeter, 2000, p. 156). It is not and cannot be addressed sufficiently by any set of state or national standards, or by any textbook series, so that it will no longer require our sustained attention as educators. Multicultural education is a critical forum for reforming schools in ways that support pluralism and equity, (Sleeter, 2000, p. 157). Basically, these authors are telling us that this subject is not taken seriously by all, but the real difficulty lies in trying to create guidelines for multicultural education s incorporation. Julie Kailin brings about another historical aspect of multicultural education in her article that is how the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Usefulness Of Viral Vectors The Usefulness of Viral Vectors in Treating Dravet Syndrome Voltage gated sodium channels initiate the development action potentials in neurons; mutations of genes encoding these channels are responsible for genetic epilepsy syndromes with varying degrees of severity1. Dravet syndrome, or severe myoclonic epilepsy of infancy (SMEI), is a complex and severe form of childhood epilepsy, caused by a nonsense mutation in the sodium voltage gated channel alpha subunit 1 (SCN1a) gene. Severe loss of function mutation in Nav1.1 causes SMEI, which involves intractable epilepsy, ataxia, and cognitive impairment 1. It is important to study this disease because of its early mortality in children and because of its high resistance to drug therapy 2. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Adeno associated viral vectors (AAV): Adeno associated viral vectors are non enveloped single stranded DNA viruses used in treating diseases of the central nervous system 3. AAV vectors have been widely used in clinical trials to deliver therapeutic genes to mutated ones, and are efficient and safe in vivo application3. However one major drawback is the limited packaging capacity for genes with larger sizes 3. Fortunately, this can be overcome with the treatment of the dystrophin gene (DMD), which encodes the cohesive protein dystrophin that supports the cytoskeleton of a cell3. There are two methods can be used with AAV vectors to decrease the duration of epilepsy: inducing somatostatin into AAV vectors and direct injection of glial targeting AAV vectors. Method 1: Somatostatin (SST) is a neuromodulator known to have diverse functions in sleep and motor activity and it plays a putative anticonvulsant role, such as in maintaining hippocampal homeostasis4. Some studies have suggested that AAV vector mediated expression of SST suppresses hippocampus related seizure development in rats4. Viral vector gene therapy using SST as an anti seizure related neuropeptide in a kindling model of epilepsy was implemented, where over successive electrical stimulation of the same intensity, seizures evolve from partial to generalized states 4. The duration of seizures was lower for the vector infused with SST (pAAV CBa SST), than compared to the vector that was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The image chosen shows a man sitting on the ground, wearing tattered clothes and playing a guitar. Looking closely, the man s frame appears long and bony, paired with tattered clothes. His face looks sad and glum while his body seems to be leaning in, listening intently to his guitar as his hands go over the strings. Despite the initial light atmosphere of the poem Theodore Roethke uses strong and powerful language to convey an underlined meaning to their dance. My Papa s Waltz is a poem of fear, all the more horrible because the boy is terrified and hurt by his father, even in play, yet he clings and hangs to him showing how strong... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Someone has to lead in a waltz, which highlights the father s control over the small boy. It isn t because the boy is being led, but instead the way the father is leading is what makes the dance not easy. Roethke uses the verb waltz to impose a sense of joy to the poem, because on literal level the waltz should be easy and smooth, but for the boy and his father it isn t because apparently, their lives together aren t easy. Continuing the tone of the first stanza, in the second stanza of the poem the word romped makes their waltz sound carefree, but they romped until the pans/ Slid from the kitchen shelf. Lines 5 and 6 show how their waltz is causing a violent disruption in their home that even the boys mother could not tolerate. Again with something that sounds as care free as dancing with your father Roethke implies an undertone of disturbance and violence that is inevitably taking a toll on their family and home life. Likewise in the third stanza the speaker mentions that the hand that held his wrist was battered on one knuckle. Undoubtedly, a hand holding a wrist is more aggressive and dominant than just a hand holding a hand like in a typical waltz, which is suppose to a smooth and easy glide. The fathers hand holding the speakers wrist shows both the difference in the size of their hands and that the speaker waltzes unwillingly. The fact that Roethke chooses the word battered ... The Hammurapi s Laws and the readings from Exodus 21 23 have many similar qualities. But just like everything else they can be analyzed differently when they are being compared. While throughout both readings they talk about the goring ox law. And seeing how that one specific law can be viewed differently it shows how unlike the two places were. In one place they were realizing how much God does for them, and how he provides to them if they follow his laws or commandments. Whereas in the other (around Hammurapi) location Hammurapi just talks about they are following the laws, and them getting nothing in return. In the book of Exodus, it shows how ... For example, in The New Interpreter s Study Bible it shows just that If the ox has been accustomed to gore in the past and its owner has been warned but has not restrained it, and it kills a man or a woman, the ox should be stoned, and its owner shall be put to death. And that is the same in Hammurapi s Laws as well. But what also is noticed is that if you have money you can pay off your death. As it is stated in Exodus 20 40, the owner of that ox can pay for redemption If ransom is laid upon him (the owner of the ox), he must pay whatever is laid upon him to redeem his life. The NRSV rendering ... the owner shall pay whatever is imposed for the redemption of the victim s life. It does not seem right because the victim is dead so the money should not count for it. But it goes into explaining that the victims life is an interpretative addition. And throughout those two examples, you can see that the owner of the ox is only penalized if he knows his ox is killing people. If he does not know that his ox is killing people he does not get penalized or in other words put to death. Also, the ox is only killed if the owner knows about it. If the authorities do not contact the owner then the ox lives. In the bible the slave s lives are more valued then when they were killed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first issue is to consider what the better feature types to implement the recognition classifier are. Prosodic speech features such as pitch, energy, duration and statistics values like mean, median, minimum, maximum, range, variance calculated from them are widely used [3] [4]. Therefore, it can be concluded that some students believe that cheating on homework assignments is not considered as immoral. This may further explain why students cheat. Furthermore, 91.9% of students reported cheating at least once, albeit 51.4% of students stating that it s bothersome when others cheat (Appendix D). This is due to self serving bias, which is when people blame other individuals when their action negatively affects them, while they blame the situation when their act negatively affects others (Boyes, 2013). For example, if someone gets into a car accident, one automatically assumes that person is a bad driver, while if one gets into a car accident himself, one will find excuses and say it was not their own fault. Similarly, when a student cheats in high school, they find reasons to justify that action, even when they know it is wrong, which is the case with 62.2% of students in this survey (Appendix D). However, when another student cheats in the same class, it is bothersome to some students because they see it as unfair and disrespectful on the student s part. • 48. The Movie The Pact The ones I sympathize with When I read The Pact , I felt some connection between the characters; Sampson Davis, George Jenkins, and Hunt Rameck. Throughout their hardship and struggles, It encouraged me to read on. But as I continued reading on, the three main characters stood out the most. But out of those three characters, one stood out in particular. Throughout his experiences and trials, I could see myself in that situation. In how he felt, in the manner in how he saw things around, I could see how I would have done the same thing myself. Dr. Hunt is someone I could relate to, someone I could see becoming friends with. There was a few encounters that I have had that is similar to Hunt s experiences. If I had a bad grade, I had a butt whuppin coming. • 49. School Board Meeting The school board meeting I attended was the Norris School District. The meeting was located at Norris Middle School in the Mary Louise Robinson Library. The address was 6940 Calloway Dr. at seven PM. The Norris school district contains four elementary schools and one middle school. Total number of elected board members are five. The board president is Cy Silver. They meet once a month on the second Wednesday. The board is required to address the reports from superintendent and staff. Such as enrollment, district proposition 39 California clean energy job acts funding, district cafeteria report, local control accountability plan progress report. They also discuss new business such as approving budgets and achievements. The general format of the meeting is the board members sit in the front of the general attendees and the president sits in the middle of all the board members. Staff members sit to the right and left of the board members. The atmosphere was very welcoming, and they spoke of the business like they actually cared. They spent about one hour discussing the cafeteria report. I thought this was quite interesting. They care that the kids are not eating, and want to make a plan to buy better food that the kids will actually eat. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ninety percent of all the board members, staff, and attendees were white. There is nothing wrong with that, but it just proves what the textbook mentions. It was a huge comparison than when I attended a school district meeting in a poverty district. It is different because there was parents attending the meeting in Norris, and the business they discuss is different as well. All of the members were friendly and respectful with each other. There has to be more diversity in all of the districts. They talked about cafeteria food for an hour, it seems surprising to me because I could only wish all of the school districts biggest concern would be what the kids ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
