The Effects Of Space Travel In The Movie Apollo 13
After watching the movie Apollo 13, all I can take away is irritation, several unanswered questions,
and poorly explained minute details relating to traveling in space. While some details are easy to
understand, such as the effects of gravity on weight and the effects of space travel on the human body,
many instances of scientific references are made under the presumption that the viewer understands
what is being said. Along with the inability to detail the process of achieving space travel, the details
they did include were often inaccurate, for example the display of evident sexism. While this movie
did roughly indulge in the chronicles of previous space missions and the tension between the United
States and Russia in the on going Space Race , there is very little mention of the science behind the
mission, making this more of a poorly represented history movie than a scientific examination into the
world of NASA, the Kennedy Space Center, and the mission of Apollo 13. Before explaining
inconsistencies in the movie s portrayal of the Apollo 13 mission, it can be said that it had brief
shining moments of informative narration. One of these highlights is the references made to the
ongoing fight between Russia and the United States over who will conquer in technological
advancements. The beginning of the movie really detailed why it was important for the astronauts and
scientists involved in the Apollo 13 mission to complete another trip to the moon. Other small

Gender Expectations In Ancient Mythology
In our current world, gender expectations apparent in our society be traced back to ancient mythology.
Women of today find inspiration in beauty and fashion often unknowingly form ancient cultures.
Similarly, popular masculine attributes are relatable to the myths of heroes and important gods. Basing
current social standards upon mythological texts however creates problems. In striving to achieve such
physical greatness people of this era are attempting to reach the impossible: to become a god or
goddess of immortal standards themselves. By relating ancient myths to that of the current media, one
can view the effect that the ancient world has upon the social standards apparent in our society today.
Divinity in ancient mythology was not always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If they, or at the minimum their leader does not fit into the standard and accepted body standards, then
they are overlooked. Hephaestus, the Greek god of smithing fits into this category with his lame leg.
Other than his leg, Hephaestus is often described and pictured as a fit and athletic looking male. As
Homer writes in the Iliad, Hephaestus had a massive neck and hairy chest and his shrunken legs
moved lightly beneath him ( Hephaestus ). This description makes Hephaestus appear as a strong man
whose disability is apparent but does not fully take away his immortality. Similarly, characters in
superhero stories with the unusual attribute of being overweight are frowned upon by society.
Superheroine Big Bertha, otherwise known as the Ample Amazon uses her overweight characteristic
to fight evil; her large size makes her bulletproof and gives her immense strength ( Overweight
Superheroes and Supervillains. ). However, Bertha s large size is only apparent during her heroic
adventures in the comic world. During her regular life, she is a slim figured supermodel who is
famous throughout the globe for her gorgeous figure and looks. Characters similar to Bertha would
find it difficult to gain popularity in the world today due to the prevalent body

The Pros And Cons Of Private Prisons
Hoarse yelling, officers shouting out orders, threats being passed brazenly between those in power and
those whose power has been stripped away. While this may sound like a line that could be from a
dystopian novel or a story about the a corrupt government and its people in a third world country,
things like this have actually happened in the United States. From the year 1980 to the year 2010
people incarcerated for federal drug charges increase from 4,749 people to 97,472. While those
statistics may be shocking, the fact that approximately half of the people with federal drug charges are
not even incarcerated in a federal prison. Those that are not in a federal prison are detained in private
for profit prisons owned by companies like Corrections ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many private prison deals where people have either invested their money into the prisons or
the prison has backed another business or running candidate with the prison s money. Regardless of
which way it goes, both sides usually come out on top with the prisoners losing. One group even
created something called the Prison Divestment Campaign in 2011. The campaign was formed by
several groups working together to try and get investors to pull out of private prison deals (Magee 49
50). It was easy for them to get scared that other parts of branches of the government would become
privatized seeing as a piece of the judicial branch already had. The lobbying, however, can be proven
especially with recent events. The day Donald Trump was elected to be the US President stock prices
of CCA had risen by 43% and the stock for the GEO Group had risen by 21%. Just a few day after and
the stock had risen above 100% from what it had previously been. During the time of his campaign
Donald Trump had repeatedly spoken of cities and embellished their crime rates. Trump s propaganda,
as well as his fiery immigration speeches, has led to incarceration rates slowly climbing. Under Trump
s administration, federal prison populations shrink as private prisons thrive all due to the fact that
private prison companies backed Trump in his

Costco Is An American Wholesale Corporation
Costco is an American wholesale corporation that operates based on the membership warehouse club,
while Target is a retailer corporation that specializes in discount merchandise. Even though both
Costco and Target have different target operation, they are the top two largest companies in the retailer
industry in the United States. In order to analyze and compare the financial health of these two
company, it is important to recognize these three key terms: liquidity, solvency, and profitability.
Liquidity is a financial term used to determine the ability of a company to pay off its short term debts,
which will be due within the next year or in an operating cycle. In another word, liquidity is a very
important indicator to evaluate a company s financial health. Liquidity ratio shows a comparison
between the most liquid assets and short term obligations of a company. A higher liquidity expresses
that the company has not only a better ability to pay off its short term debts but also a greater amount
of cash for an unexpected needs. In another word, when a company has a low liquidity, the company
may face a risk to pay its short term debt and struggle to fund its long term operation. The current ratio
is one of the most common and useful terms used to measure the liquidity of a company. It suggests
the capability of a company to pay back its liabilities with its assets. The current ratio is computed by
dividing current assets by current liabilities. According to a financial

Caroline Pignat Quote
I wish you and your family is having a wonderful spring break. I realize this break will be very useful
for you since you ve been sick for quite a while. I have a book you might want to check out and read if
you haven t done so already. The book is titled Shooter, written by Caroline Pignat, which is a mystery
novel. My reading goal this term is to bypass Sci fi books, which I typically love to read, and try
something new. I explained, to Ms. Verma, the types of books I like prefer to read and my reading goal
this term and asked if she has any recommendations. She introduced me to the Reading Riot which
has the crowd pleasing books and all Richmond school libraries have several copies of these titles. She
recommended this book and said this is fast paced, which made me want to read it because the books I

end with amazing cliffhangers that make the reader come back for more. She looks up from her phone,

President Bush s Response to September 11 and Islamic...
On September 11, 2001, the United States witnessed its worst attack on U.S. soil since the bombings
of Pearl Harbor in 1945. Members of the terrorist group Al Qaeda hijacked four aircraft and managed
to crash two of them in to the Twin Towers in New York City. When the smoke cleared, there were
2,752 deaths. This day marked the beginning of a new type of war for the United States: the war on
terror. These events left President George Bush with a complex and troublesome series of decisions to
make. Afghanistan is the country harboring the terrorists who orchestrated their attack, yet
Afghanistan did not commit the attacks. President Bush needed to make a decision and fast. Should
the United States attack a country that harbors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before diving into the changes, it is necessary to understand why Osama bin Laden orchestrated such
an elaborate attack on the United States. Osama bin Laden, although once an American ally, turned
enemy against the United States for several reasons. First and foremost, Bin Laden condemns
American support for Israel and the billions it received in aid. Moreover, the United States being a
foreign democratic power has no right to enter the House of Islam as it did during the Persian Gulf
War in 1991 with a military presence in Egypt. Politically and socially, the United States is the
diametric opposite of bin Laden s beliefs and goals. It is bin Laden s goal to remove the United States
out of the Middle East by crippling it domestically. However, President Bush is in no position to
acquiesce his wishes. Terrorism has no role in the modern world and on September 20, 2001,
President Bush made his intentions clear when he stated, We will starve terrorists of funding, turn
them one against another, drive them from place to place, until there is no refuge or no rest...Either
you are with us or you are against us with the terrorists. President Bush s bases his decision to use
military actions because of the nature of the enemy. Al Qaeda organizes itself across the world with a
few governments openly harboring terrorism. He knew one cannot fight an enemy that has no political
or geographical boundary; one must go after the sponsoring

It is said that following a visit to the Oracle of Delphi he spent much of his life questioning anyone in
Athens who would engage him, in order to disprove the oracular prophecy that there would be no man
wiser than Socrates. Through these live dialogues, he examined common but critical concepts that
lacked clear or concrete definitions, such as beauty and truth, and the virtues of piety, wisdom,
temperance, courage, and justice. Socrates awareness of his own ignorance allowed him to discover
his errors as well as the errors of those who claimed knowledge based upon falsifiable or unclear
precepts and beliefs. He wrote nothing, but inspired many disciples, including many sons of prominent
Athenian citizens (including Plato), which led to his trial and executionin 399 B.C. on the charge that
his philosophy and sophistry were undermining the youth, piety, and moral fiber of the city. He was
offered a chance to flee from his fate but chose to remain in Athens, abide by his principles, and drink
the poison hemlock.
Socrates most important student was Plato, who founded the Academy of Athens and wrote a number
of dialogues, which applied theSocratic method of inquiry to examine philosophical problems. Some
central ideas of Plato s dialogues are the Theory of Forms, i.e., that the mind is imbued with an innate
capacity to understand and contemplate concepts from a higher order preeminent world, concepts
more real, permanent, and universal than or representative of the things

Power Dynamic Between A Years Old And A Bengal Tiger
The Power Dynamic between a Sixteen Year Old and a Bengal Tiger Who has the power? A sixteen
year old or a Bengal tiger? Power is typically concerned with who or what has control over someone
or something else, so the question almost seems silly, because what could a young teenage boy have
over a carnivorous, wild animal? Although it may seem obvious that the wild animal would have
control over the boy, the answer is not as definite in the Life of Pi by Yann Martel. In the novel, the
tiger, Richard Parker, and the teenage boy, Pi Patel share power. In other words, the two characters
share power because of the unusual dynamic of equals between them. As a result of their dynamic, it
brings up the question of how this situation came to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My agency was pure and miraculous. It conferred power upon me (Martel 248). To further support Pi
s claim, Pi even provides evidence for why Richard Parker s reliance on him gave him power: Proof: I
remained alive day after day, week after week. Proof: he did not attack me, even when I was asleep on
the tarpaulin. Proof: I am here to tell you this story (Martel 248). If Pi Patel had not been on that
lifeboat with Richard Parker, the chances of survival of the tiger would have been slim. Richard
Parker would have eventually died of starvation or dehydration if Pi had not been there taking care of
him. Thus, Richard Parker s reliance on Pi gave Pi power over Richard Parker.
The way in which Pi assumed this power over Richard Parker was by establishing himself as an equal
to him. As Pi brought food to the tiger, Pi would use whistles to remind Richard Parker of who
provided him with food and water: ...not forgetting to blow the whistle hard several times, to remind
Richard Parker of who had so graciously provided him with fresh food (Martel 206). This method Pi
had developed proved to be successful on his mission to become equals with Richard Parker when Pi
stared into [Richard Parker s] eyes, wide eyed and defiant, and [they] faced off (Martel 246). Pi knew
that if he looked away and backed down, the tiger would never see him as an equal, because Richard

What Is The Theme Of The Book Of Job
The Book of Job is one of the most thoughtful and wonderful pieces of literature that has ever come to
light. It is the story of the man, Job, who maintains his fidelity to God, even when being subjected to
horrific trials. The work is understood as a masterpiece of Hebrew poetry. To emphasize that point, the
famous French novelist Victor Hugo allegedly has said that if all the world s literary efforts were to be
destroyed, and he could save but a solitary sample, it would be Job.
Job thinks that his exemplary life makes him deserve better treatment from God than he was getting,
and he says so over and over again. It makes the key message of the book, why do bad things happen

Horace once said, Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents, which in prosperous circumstances

Dido s Common Use Of Love In Aeneid
There are two integral pieces of love in Virgil s epic Aeneid: the romantic, lustful love (as felt by Dido
for Aeneas) and the grounded, honest, family love (as felt between Aeneas and Anchises). There is a
dynamic relationship between the two sides of love which causes each to emphasize the other – an
emphasis that is facilitated by Virgil s common use of fire and flame imagery to describe both types of
love.
Upon analyzing the lustful episode between Dido and Aeneas and the image of Aeneas fleeing troy
bearing his father, Anchises, on his back and holding his sons hand (beautifully sculpted by Bernini,
see attached), it becomes clear that the love in each situation is very different, despite the common use

/ The inward fire eats the soft marrow away (IV. 92 93)
Here, the inward fire most likely refers to Dido s longing desire, as bestowed in her by Cupid, to
pursue Aeneas. However, because their love will be consummated sexually, this desire could literally
be a sense of physical arousal.
As Aeneas tells Dido of his destiny to sail for Italy not of [his] own free will, (IV.499) he begs Dido to
release him from the pain that their love causes.
So please, no more / Of these appeals that set us both afire.
(IV.497 498)
Literally, he begs for it to end. He begs for the fire to be put out and the romantic, lustful love to cease.
As Aeneas leaves, Dido is overcome with a maddened fire.
From far away I shall come after you / With my black fires, and when cold death has parted / Body
from soul I shall be everywhere / A shade to haunt you! (IV.533 536)
Dido is now consumed by her own inward fire and it causes her to pledge to haunt Aeneas with black
fire, a sign of pure evil. She vows that Aeneas will pay for this, (IV.536). Noting the transformation
from the use of inward fire as a medium for desire to a more hysterical, crazed type of passion is
essential in understanding the ultimate failure of romantic and lustful love in the Aeneid.
Finally, as Dido unleashes her own inward fire all

Dave Eggers Zeitoun Character Analysis
In Dave Eggers Zeitoun, a personal recount of hurricane katrina is told that includes chaos, loss, and
the importance of family. The author uses Zeitoun s story to implicitly tell his own personal views
across to the reader. Eggers uses literary devices and rhetorical tools to do this. It s important to note
in this book that these are the author s view and that you must choose to separate them from the story
or not. In my opinion, the falsity of media is the most resonating argument, The authors capitalizes on
Zeitoun and his family s background to fulfill this idea. Throughout the book, Egger s personal
opinion of the media is revealed as the story continues and the characters see for the distortion. One
piece of the distortion of reality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hyperbolic and racially charged news coverage is described throughout the book. On page 124,
Kathy tells Zeitoun over the phone of the news about looting and killing, but he hadn t seen anything
like the chaos she described. He goes on to say, If it existed at all.. This reveals that both Egger s and
Zeitoun know you cannot believe everything the news says. SInce the reader has been with Zeitoun
through the whole ordeal, the reader is also unaware of any dangers, if any. This adds to the
underlying feeling that the media is exaggerating the aftermath. Further into Zeitoun s exploration he
comes across a body and a helicopter hovering as he describes, A man was pointing a camera at the
body. He did so for a few more minutes and then the helicopter rose, tilted, and drifted off. This
language and casual feeling in the quote make it obvious it is a media helicopter that has no intention
to check on the body and see if it s okay. A rhetorical question leads into this quote, instilling hope in
the reader to be immediately let down. The nonchalant of the interaction exposes how distant the
coverage is to the scene. It makes the reader realize Egger s strong disdain for the media. In my final
example, Zeitoun is interviewed by a man with a video camera on page 167. The inclusion of the short
interview and the even shorter sentences

Pant Clothing In The 1970 s
The 1970s was full of movement and change, and the fashion trends of that time reflected that. The
clothes were bold and diverse as people wore clothes they preferred over what was the social norm of
the gender, race, or any other category. Women started wearing more masculine clothes, men
experimented with different suits and many unisex outfits and new styles emerged and became
popular in this decade. Therefore, due to the attitude of the seventies being about individualism, the
decade was titled as the Me decade. Firstly, as stated previously, women started wearing more
masculine clothes, including pant suits. Pant suits helped women make a statement to society by being

hippie style was made popular due to many famous singers, bands, and other entertainers, such as The
Beatles, wearing hippie styled outfits, matching loose fitting shirts with vivid patterns and pairing
them with clothes from many cultures. Men and women both wore this style and pushed what was
normal for society at the time by having long hair as men and women wearing a large height variety in

into the American culture. It was popular mainly to the youth and purposely defied the social norm
and drew a line between the youth and the older generations. Their style consisted of leather jackets,
ripped clothes, colorful hair, and many other accessories and aspects and was also

John Proctor s Excessive Pride In The Crucible By Arthur...
In The Crucible, both honor and excessive pride play a role in the portrayal of John Proctor
throughout the play. Pride is an attribute that makes someone feel like he or she is worth something
but when someone is excessively prideful, they are over confident and often conceited. Proctor s
excessive pride caused him avoid telling the truth in the story told by Arthur Miller in The Crucible.
Proctor was a proud man who seemed to set himself apart from the community of Salem,
Massachusetts. No one could have seen him as prideful, as John was a religious man, or so everyone
thought. His pride caused him to cover who he really was a man who struggled with sin. Elizabeth
Proctor, his wife, wanted him to admit his sins and put an end to Abigail Williams scheme that had
brought about a witch hunt but John Proctor does not come clean until Elizabeth is among those
accused and he feels guilt over his previous relationship with Abigail, the accuser. John Proctor s pride
put him into a painful situation that could have been avoided if he had been honest from the
beginning. If he had told the truth about Abigail before the accusations of witchcraft began, he may

also authored a book about bees; which would later become the subject of many of Plath s later
poems. Her mother, Aurelia Plath was pursuing a career in teaching when she met Sylvia s father. At
the age of eight, Sylvia Plath published her first poem, her father would die in Winthrop, that same
year. This would be the start of her lifelong career as a poet. Plath lived and wrote in the 1950s
through the 1960s in both America and England (Bawer). As a modern period poet and feminist,
growing up during WWII, some of Plath s work was directly related to the issues that were developing
in society at the time. After WWII, societies were often characterized by strict gender norms. Women
were expected to remain safely in their homes, with being a wife and a mother as their ultimate joy
and goal. Art and expression became away from women to escape the everyday pressures of society.
The poem The Applicant gives a glimpse of how Plath personally felt about women s rights and also
touched on male dominance in her marriage. Through the poem, Plath shows the struggles of young
women who are taught by society to pursue marriage and feel their worth only comes from their
physical beauty. The poem begins

Blood Glucose Level Changes Due Exercise And Serving Size
Introduction
Our whole project is surrounded around blood glucose level changes due exercise and serving size, so
that brings about the question of what is blood glucose? Blood glucose is the sugar that is moved
throughout the bloodstream to provide energy to all cells in the body. In simple terms, it is very
important biological occurrence that drives the body by giving it the raw energy to power all the body
s functions. To test for this occurrence, there are two main methods to test for the levels of blood
glucose in the bloodstream. One method is having the blood drawn intravenously, getting blood drawn
using a needle, and sending it to a lab to conduct the action. The other method that is much more
convenient and less costly is using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The kidneys are quite busy forming about 160 liters of filtrate daily (Powis, 1985, p. 182). This is very
important because it is through the liver and kidneys that the nutrients start traveling through the
bloodstream, especially glucose, sugar. Glucose is the favored energy fuel for most cells of the body
(Silverstein, 1994, p. 28). Glucose is essentially sugar, which is the primitive source of energy for
most of living organisms, and humans are no exception. Normally people have the biochemistry
within their bodies to regulate their own blood sugar levels. However, this is not the case for some
people, unfortunately, due to factors. The hormone insulin, which, helps sugar enter the body cells, is
basically inactive in some people, which causes their whole biological system to start to
deteriorate(Goodheart, 1990, p. 117). This is known as diabetes. Diabetes can come in two types, i.e
type 1 and 2, which are caused by genetics or poor dietary habits. This can cause conditions like
hyperglycemia, which is, a blood sugar level that is higher than normal (Goodheart, 1990, p.117). The
opposite of this is hypoglycemia, which is, a blood sugar that is lower than normal (Goodheart, 1990,
p.117). Research into blood glucose was then extensively done to help out with managing diabetes
since there was no cure. This led to the creation of synthetic insulin that diabetics inject themselves to
regulate their levels and

Methadone Critical Review
Met with the patient as directed by the Clinical Director. According to the patient, he requested for a
dose decrease of 1mgs per day until he reaches 0mgs. Based on the patient s order, he is indeed
decreasing his methadone of 1mgs; however, the order stated that it will stop at 53mgs, not 0mgs. The
patient informed this writer about a discussion he had with his assigned counselor Cherron about the
importance of this due to the need to get off on the methadone as he wants to obtain his CDL but
cannot do so if he is prescribed with methadone. This writer reviewed the patient s record and there
are no AMA taper signed and no medical consultation documented. This writer then addresses this

High Demand For Off Campus Housing Essay
Everyone will have to search for housing at some point in their life but for most JMU students this
process begins after only a few weeks of living in a dorm your freshman year of college. The thought
of signing a lease this early into the school year with friends that you have only known since coming
to JMU can be very exciting and scary at the same time. there is such high demand for off campus
housing that they tend to fill up very fast and early in the school year. Most students at JMU will only
live in a dorm their freshman year and then move into apartments for the rest of their college
experience. This is a helpful guide for students looking for housing including my own experience
signing a lease, whether living off campus is cheaper than living on campus, and what your options
are for living off campus.
My Own Experience:
My search for housing began only six weeks after I had packed my entire life up and moved from
New Hampshire to JMU. Thankfully my sister is currently a senior here at JMU so she knew how
important it was to sign a lease quickly because of how fast the housing complexes fill up. According
to the Best College Rankings from US News and World Report, 13 percent of the students live in
college owned, operated or affiliated housing and 87 percent of students live off campus at James
Madison University ( James Madison... ). Since so many students live off campus, my friends and I
decided that we were not going to live in the dorms again next year so we

Poverty In Canada
In 1914, Canadas poverty rate was at a high of approximately twenty percent. At this time in Canada,
it did not matter what age you were, either six months or ninety nine years old the likeliness of being
poor were very high. Poverty does not only destroy a person s life, it is crippling to a country its self.
Canada was hit hard with poverty, especially during and after the Great Depression and our
government knew there was a need for help. Over the past century, the government of Canada has
created many different types of social programs.1 These programs implemented Canada have been a
big success and have become a very sufficient part in protecting Canadian citizens from the moment
of birth to the moment of death. The three main social programs ... Show more content on

help to get the person or family up to better living standards. There are different types of welfare, they
assist with covering the cost of things like food, housing, child and medical care, and cash allowance.6
The main goal of this program is to insure that people can go through their life with the necessary
needs and proper living obligations. This was created in 1938 right after world war two and has
brought our poverty rate down forty percent from the rate it was in the 1930s.7 Over sixty percent of
our population is on some sort of government welfare or most likely will be on one at one point in
their life. Each different type of welfare program has different rules, eligibility, benefit and provisions
regarding special assistance. Throughout the duration of the past seventy years, our government has
made it easier to receive this social program, so that Canada can fight off poverty. Without welfare
many people would not be able to afford the everyday needs of life and our poverty rate would most
likely be increased immensely.8 On that note, this is why welfare is one of the main protection from

Documentaries Research Essay
Documentaries are a form of media that have been around for decades and have been used to display
and educate a diverse range of subject matter from the lives of animals, political controversies, to how
eating McDonalds for every meal of the day can effect your health. Because of their long history there
have been many factors that have influenced the production of documentaries such as societal and
economical changes. One of what is debatably the largest factors that has influenced documentaries is
they have been a part of and shaped by the rise and full of many technological advancements, such as
cameras, audio equipment, editing stations and even the distribution of the films themselves. As such
it is important to see the impact that these advancements have had on the making of documentaries
both stylistically and technically. It is important to first know what a documentary is to fully
understand why the development of technology has shaped them. From their conception documentary
films have been about capturing life, about the raw material of actuality. (Beattie; 10) Not only do the
documentaries tell us the story that the filmmaker is trying to tell, but also a deeper lesson that may be
historical and or of social significance. As documentaries would now be considered mainstream
media, they are seen as being the truth, that they are capturing life from unbiased point of view. Of
course, saying that a documentary representation makes a truth claim is not the same as

Religion During The Early Modern Period Essay
Religion was so central to political and military conflict in the early modern period because religion
encompassed the era due to the strongly religious cultural society. The centre of conflict deriving from
the Catholic and Protestant divide, which caused conflict within politics and the military, because the
opposing sides fought over religious territory and popularity. The centre of the conflict within these
sectors of religion was The Reformation and the wars which followed, which created a struggle for
power as different religions gained new support and thus power, and others experienced reduced
power as a result. The resulting political and military turmoil created the growth of secularism, which
attempted to stabilize politics and the military by increasing control. Therefore religion was so central
to political and military conflict in the early modern period because the period was so strongly
religious that it had more of an impact on political and military conflict than any other factor, because
it was held in a higher regard than politics and the military sustained individually.
Religion in the early modern period was the source of people s identity because people were strongly
religious due to religious values encompassing the way that society functioned due to the strongly
religious culture, a strong contrast with today. Popular religious practices and beliefs were actually
derived from liturgical paradigms of an incredibly vivacious late medieval Catholic

High Hopes at Miracle-Gro in The Medical Marijuana Field
Dana Mattioli authored High Hopes at Miracle Gro in Medical Marijuana Field in a published
WSJ.com article of June 14, 2011. The article describes a new exploration venue undertaken by Scotts
Miracle Gro Co., to expand its market into the medical marijuana field. The company aims to increase
its revenues by diversifying its target market as a result of the recent legalization of medical marijuana
in several states.
The main characters in this article include Scotts Miracle Gro Co. who is venturing into the medical
marijuana field with Miracle Gro products. Centennial Seed Co. and General Cannabis Inc. are also
mentioned as companies that support the medical marijuana field. These new niche marketing
strategies are supported with data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The product itself does not necessarily need to be changed as its purpose will be identical in the new
market. However, the product s packaging, advertising, image, and distribution channels will need to
be redesigned and managed differently. Mostly, Scotts will need to be able to convince its new target
market of its product s benefits and value, to generate sales.
Scotts is entering an extremely controversial market of semi legal marijuana. According to the article,
only sixteen states approved laws to legalize marijuana for medical reasons. 68% of the U.S. states
have not legalized marijuana and still disapprove of its use. Scotts will need to pursue a unique public
relations strategy to address such potential concerns about growing marijuana. Scotts will need to
build an awareness and credibility to its product and promote its benefits in the new market. It will
carefully need to choose its messages and vehicles to deliver them. Its communication mix will have
to defend the product in the new market and advocate the medical benefits it will create and generate.
Like Scotts, several other companies could benefit from the growth in the medical marijuana industry.
These may be companies that create products that assist with marijuana growth such as seed, sprinkler
systems, hot house builders, and lighting. Additionally, companies that assist with packaging, delivery,

The Causes And Impacts Of The Great White Shark
Widely feared by all is the shark and leading the charge is the Great White Shark. The Great White is a
species of large mackerel shark, which can be found in almost all coastal and offshore waters which
have water temperatures between 12 and 24°C with greater concentrations in the United States,
Oceania, Chile, South Africa and the Mediterranean. The Great White is a keystone species, which
regulates abundance, distribution, and diversity of marine life. Additionally, they provide essential
food for scavengers and help in natural selection to remove the weak from populations. (Sharks as
keystone species, 2016)
Sharks ancestry dates back more than 400 million years, and they are even older than dinosaurs. These
animals are uniquely adapted to their environment with six highly refined senses of touch, taste, sight,
smell, hearing and electromagnetism. They are the top predators in the ocean, with the only real threat
to their survival being humans. Each year, thousands of sharks are being killed by human activity
including illegal poaching, illegal hunting, culling, and shark nets place along coastlines. (Sharks as
keystone species, 2016)
Although relatively rare, shark bite incidents draw an immense level of interest from both the public
and the media, as they often result in serious consequence for those involved. Globally the number of
negative shark bite incidents has increased over the years, but this has been largely attributed to
population increase and more people

Encounters Failure
When an individual encounters failure, there is a feeling of defeat that they experience, although that
feeling can ultimately push someone down the right path which eventually results in success. Most
people can say that they had to fail at one point throughout their life before they reached their peak of
success. The Pursuit of Happyness, directed by Gabrielle Muccino, is a film that displays how failure
plays a significant role in an individual s life as they are striving towards success. The protagonist in
the film, Chris Gardner, demonstrates how one can overcome adversity and failure, and use it as a
stepping stone on the path towards their determined success. Chris experiences initial failure that starts
him on the proper path towards success, he faces failure along his journey towards his goal that forces
him to work even harder and giving him a better chance at success, and he finally attains all of the
success he had been working extremely hard for due to all of the failure he endured along the way.

Peter Singer Animal Liberation Essay
This argument: that rational beings must be considered ends in themselves, was the lifeblood of the
movements of the 1970s that sought to bring oppressed groups under the umbrella of equal moral
consideration. These prolonged and often violent debates revolved around demands for equality
through which oppressed groups could attain their liberation. As such it is not surprising that the
movement for animal liberation stems from these concerns. In fact, they are explicitly allied with
them. Peter Singer s seminal text Animal liberation is deliberately called so to evoke memories of the
fortitude and determination of these earlier movements for human liberation. Singer emphasises
rationality and self consciousness of some animals as evidence ... Show more content on

Fifteen minutes later, when Goliath got up and left, Figan without a moment s hesitation went over
and collected the banana. Quite obviously, he had sized up the whole situation: if he had climbed for
the fruit earlier, Goliath would almost certainly have snatched it away, If he had remained close to the
banana, he would probably have looked at it from time. Chimps are very quick to notice and interpret
the eye movements of their fellows, and Goliath would possibly, therefore, have seen the fruit himself.
And so Figan had not only refrained from instantly gratifying hiss desire but had also gone away so
that he could not give the game away by looking at the banana. the police dog here: Often when one

The Moral Permissibility Of Abortion
Moral Permissibility of Abortion
Abortion has been a debating issue for many decades. Most of the countries, permit abortion,
however, some religions and countries consider abortion to be morally and ethically impermissible. In
Canada, the abortion was legalized in 1988 based on the fact that the law should not force a women to
carry a fetus beyond her priorities as it would interfere with her body and her own securities towards
life. Many would argue against this view by stating that a fetus does have a right to live and thus,
abortion is morally wrong. I believe that abortion is morally and ethically permissible as long as it
does not violate significant rights of others.
The case of Deb and Derek is a perfect example to support my view towards abortion. The couple who
has been married for two years have realized that Deb is 16 weeks pregnant with a child who has
down s. Down syndrome is genetic disorder in which a person has 47 chromosomes instead of 46
which results in birth defects including mental retardation and delayed physical, social and mental
development (Smolkin, Bourgeois Findler, 2010, p. 165).
Derek is supports abortion because he thinks objectively the child can cause problems in their
relationship, newly setup business and their overall lifestyle. On the other hand, Deb is thinking
emotionally and feels that she should not abort the child and taking care of a child with down s will
not be as tough as Derek thinks. Later on, when Deb s realized that

Literary Analysis Of Cormac Mccarthy s The Road
In recent decades, Cormac McCarthy has staked his claim as one of the all time titans of American
literature through publishing masterpieces like Blood Meridian, Suttree, and The Road. In his works
his advanced level of technical mastery becomes apparent through his expertly harmonized
coordination of literary elements toward certain narrative ends, such as the generation of suspense. In
this light, McCarthy s literary style is a practical one, in that he organizes literary elements in his
works toward actualizing particular goals. In The Road, for instance, McCarthy directs his style
throughout the text so as to maximize the feeling of suspense that readers experience throughout the
book. This kind of stylistic maneuvering is expressed on pages 105 110 and pages 118 123 of the the
text. But, it must be noted here that the generation of suspense in these passages does not result from
similar stylistic approaches. McCarthy uses style in differently in Passage A and Passage B but
ultimately toward the same end, namely generating suspense for readers of The Road. Passage A relies
on dialogue to develop its suspense, whereas the style of Passage B relies on narrative action for its
suspense.
In Passage A, McCarthy uses ambiguous and foreboding dialogue in order to generate narrative
suspense. At the beginning of this passage the father and the son come upon a house at the edge of an
old town s remnants, and the boy asks his father where they are (105). The father ignores the

The American Citizens Opinion and the War in Vietnam
The opinion of the citizens of the United States began to change as time passed and incidents took
place. The government misled the people, the people became dissatisfied with the current situation and
families were torn apart. As American got sucked deeper into the war, Americans wanted to get out
more badly. The growth of anti war movements was caused by a mixture of different factors.
The decline of support for the Vietnam War mainly started in 1968. Although antiwar movements in
the United States had been occurring before, the Tet Offensive opened the eyes of countless people.
General Westmoreland had assured the public that the war was going to come to a swift end soon, that
there was light at the end of the tunnel . But on January ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The killings touched off protests at hundreds of college campuses across the United States; many of
these also turned violent, and two more students were killed in mid May at Jackson State University in
Mississippi. The antiwar movements brought tension between classes. Some people tried to get desk
work jobs in the military, doing paperwork or typing things to avoid being on the front line. The
majority of soldiers fighting in the war were young people with little education from lower class
families. The deaths at protests made political decision making difficult. Congress tried passing laws
that limited the Presidents power.
By the mid 1960 s, television was how the American public got their source of news. In 1964, 58% of
Americans got most of their news from television. And by 1972, that number rose to 64%. Media had
a huge effect on the popular opinion of US citizens. Before the Tet Offensive took place, the media
supported the effort at Vietnam. Reporting of military victories and progress. At that time, there was
no military censorship which meant that journalists could follow soldiers to the front lines and report
their observations without going through the government. During the Vietnam War was the first time
the horror of war was brought into the living rooms of Americans. The American public could

  • 2. The Effects Of Space Travel In The Movie Apollo 13 After watching the movie Apollo 13, all I can take away is irritation, several unanswered questions, and poorly explained minute details relating to traveling in space. While some details are easy to understand, such as the effects of gravity on weight and the effects of space travel on the human body, many instances of scientific references are made under the presumption that the viewer understands what is being said. Along with the inability to detail the process of achieving space travel, the details they did include were often inaccurate, for example the display of evident sexism. While this movie did roughly indulge in the chronicles of previous space missions and the tension between the United States and Russia in the on going Space Race , there is very little mention of the science behind the mission, making this more of a poorly represented history movie than a scientific examination into the world of NASA, the Kennedy Space Center, and the mission of Apollo 13. Before explaining inconsistencies in the movie s portrayal of the Apollo 13 mission, it can be said that it had brief shining moments of informative narration. One of these highlights is the references made to the ongoing fight between Russia and the United States over who will conquer in technological advancements. The beginning of the movie really detailed why it was important for the astronauts and scientists involved in the Apollo 13 mission to complete another trip to the moon. Other small inquiries ... • 3. Gender Expectations In Ancient Mythology In our current world, gender expectations apparent in our society be traced back to ancient mythology. Women of today find inspiration in beauty and fashion often unknowingly form ancient cultures. Similarly, popular masculine attributes are relatable to the myths of heroes and important gods. Basing current social standards upon mythological texts however creates problems. In striving to achieve such physical greatness people of this era are attempting to reach the impossible: to become a god or goddess of immortal standards themselves. By relating ancient myths to that of the current media, one can view the effect that the ancient world has upon the social standards apparent in our society today. If they, or at the minimum their leader does not fit into the standard and accepted body standards, then they are overlooked. Hephaestus, the Greek god of smithing fits into this category with his lame leg. Other than his leg, Hephaestus is often described and pictured as a fit and athletic looking male. As Homer writes in the Iliad, Hephaestus had a massive neck and hairy chest and his shrunken legs moved lightly beneath him ( Hephaestus ). This description makes Hephaestus appear as a strong man whose disability is apparent but does not fully take away his immortality. Similarly, characters in superhero stories with the unusual attribute of being overweight are frowned upon by society. Superheroine Big Bertha, otherwise known as the Ample Amazon uses her overweight characteristic to fight evil; her large size makes her bulletproof and gives her immense strength ( Overweight Superheroes and Supervillains. ). However, Bertha s large size is only apparent during her heroic adventures in the comic world. While this may sound like a line that could be from a dystopian novel or a story about the a corrupt government and its people in a third world country, things like this have actually happened in the United States. From the year 1980 to the year 2010 people incarcerated for federal drug charges increase from 4,749 people to 97,472. While those statistics may be shocking, the fact that approximately half of the people with federal drug charges are not even incarcerated in a federal prison. There are many private prison deals where people have either invested their money into the prisons or the prison has backed another business or running candidate with the prison s money. Regardless of which way it goes, both sides usually come out on top with the prisoners losing. One group even created something called the Prison Divestment Campaign in 2011. The campaign was formed by several groups working together to try and get investors to pull out of private prison deals (Magee 49 50). It was easy for them to get scared that other parts of branches of the government would become privatized seeing as a piece of the judicial branch already had. The lobbying, however, can be proven especially with recent events. The day Donald Trump was elected to be the US President stock prices of CCA had risen by 43% and the stock for the GEO Group had risen by 21%. Just a few day after and the stock had risen above 100% from what it had previously been. During the time of his campaign Donald Trump had repeatedly spoken of cities and embellished their crime rates. Trump s propaganda, as well as his fiery immigration speeches, has led to incarceration rates slowly climbing. Under Trump s administration, federal prison populations shrink as private prisons thrive all due to the fact that private prison companies backed Trump in his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Members of the terrorist group Al Qaeda hijacked four aircraft and managed to crash two of them in to the Twin Towers in New York City. When the smoke cleared, there were 2,752 deaths. This day marked the beginning of a new type of war for the United States: the war on terror. These events left President George Bush with a complex and troublesome series of decisions to make. Osama bin Laden, although once an American ally, turned enemy against the United States for several reasons. Moreover, the United States being a foreign democratic power has no right to enter the House of Islam as it did during the Persian Gulf War in 1991 with a military presence in Egypt. Politically and socially, the United States is the diametric opposite of bin Laden s beliefs and goals. It is bin Laden s goal to remove the United States out of the Middle East by crippling it domestically. However, President Bush is in no position to acquiesce his wishes. It is said that following a visit to the Oracle of Delphi he spent much of his life questioning anyone in Athens who would engage him, in order to disprove the oracular prophecy that there would be no man wiser than Socrates. Through these live dialogues, he examined common but critical concepts that lacked clear or concrete definitions, such as beauty and truth, and the virtues of piety, wisdom, temperance, courage, and justice. Socrates awareness of his own ignorance allowed him to discover his errors as well as the errors of those who claimed knowledge based upon falsifiable or unclear precepts and beliefs. He wrote nothing, but inspired many disciples, including many sons of prominent Athenian citizens (including Plato), which led to his trial and executionin 399 B.C. on the charge that his philosophy and sophistry were undermining the youth, piety, and moral fiber of the city. Power is typically concerned with who or what has control over someone or something else, so the question almost seems silly, because what could a young teenage boy have over a carnivorous, wild animal? Although it may seem obvious that the wild animal would have control over the boy, the answer is not as definite in the Life of Pi by Yann Martel. In the novel, the tiger, Richard Parker, and the teenage boy, Pi Patel share power. In other words, the two characters share power because of the unusual dynamic of equals between them. Proof: he did not attack me, even when I was asleep on the tarpaulin. Proof: I am here to tell you this story (Martel 248). If Pi Patel had not been on that lifeboat with Richard Parker, the chances of survival of the tiger would have been slim. Richard Parker would have eventually died of starvation or dehydration if Pi had not been there taking care of him. Thus, Richard Parker s reliance on Pi gave Pi power over Richard Parker. The way in which Pi assumed this power over Richard Parker was by establishing himself as an equal to him. As Pi brought food to the tiger, Pi would use whistles to remind Richard Parker of who provided him with food and water: ...not forgetting to blow the whistle hard several times, to remind Richard Parker of who had so graciously provided him with fresh food (Martel 206). This method Pi had developed proved to be successful on his mission to become equals with Richard Parker when Pi stared into [Richard Parker s] eyes, wide eyed and defiant, and [they] faced off (Martel 246). It is the story of the man, Job, who maintains his fidelity to God, even when being subjected to horrific trials. The work is understood as a masterpiece of Hebrew poetry. To emphasize that point, the famous French novelist Victor Hugo allegedly has said that if all the world s literary efforts were to be destroyed, and he could save but a solitary sample, it would be Job. Dido s Common Use Of Love In Aeneid There are two integral pieces of love in Virgil s epic Aeneid: the romantic, lustful love (as felt by Dido for Aeneas) and the grounded, honest, family love (as felt between Aeneas and Anchises). There is a dynamic relationship between the two sides of love which causes each to emphasize the other – an emphasis that is facilitated by Virgil s common use of fire and flame imagery to describe both types of love. Upon analyzing the lustful episode between Dido and Aeneas and the image of Aeneas fleeing troy bearing his father, Anchises, on his back and holding his sons hand (beautifully sculpted by Bernini, see attached), it becomes clear that the love in each situation is very different, despite the common use of the Latin ... However, because their love will be consummated sexually, this desire could literally be a sense of physical arousal. As Aeneas tells Dido of his destiny to sail for Italy not of [his] own free will, (IV.499) he begs Dido to release him from the pain that their love causes. So please, no more / Of these appeals that set us both afire. (IV.497 498) Literally, he begs for it to end. He begs for the fire to be put out and the romantic, lustful love to cease. As Aeneas leaves, Dido is overcome with a maddened fire. From far away I shall come after you / With my black fires, and when cold death has parted / Body from soul I shall be everywhere / A shade to haunt you! (IV.533 536) Dido is now consumed by her own inward fire and it causes her to pledge to haunt Aeneas with black fire, a sign of pure evil. She vows that Aeneas will pay for this, (IV.536). The author uses Zeitoun s story to implicitly tell his own personal views across to the reader. Eggers uses literary devices and rhetorical tools to do this. It s important to note in this book that these are the author s view and that you must choose to separate them from the story or not. In my opinion, the falsity of media is the most resonating argument, The authors capitalizes on Zeitoun and his family s background to fulfill this idea. Throughout the book, Egger s personal opinion of the media is revealed as the story continues and the characters see for the distortion. One piece of the distortion of reality ... SInce the reader has been with Zeitoun through the whole ordeal, the reader is also unaware of any dangers, if any. This adds to the underlying feeling that the media is exaggerating the aftermath. Further into Zeitoun s exploration he comes across a body and a helicopter hovering as he describes, A man was pointing a camera at the body. He did so for a few more minutes and then the helicopter rose, tilted, and drifted off. This language and casual feeling in the quote make it obvious it is a media helicopter that has no intention to check on the body and see if it s okay. A rhetorical question leads into this quote, instilling hope in the reader to be immediately let down. The nonchalant of the interaction exposes how distant the coverage is to the scene. It makes the reader realize Egger s strong disdain for the media. In my final example, Zeitoun is interviewed by a man with a video camera on page 167. The clothes were bold and diverse as people wore clothes they preferred over what was the social norm of the gender, race, or any other category. Women started wearing more masculine clothes, men experimented with different suits and many unisex outfits and new styles emerged and became popular in this decade. Therefore, due to the attitude of the seventies being about individualism, the decade was titled as the Me decade. Men and women both wore this style and pushed what was normal for society at the time by having long hair as men and women wearing a large height variety in hemlines. Pride is an attribute that makes someone feel like he or she is worth something but when someone is excessively prideful, they are over confident and often conceited. Proctor s excessive pride caused him avoid telling the truth in the story told by Arthur Miller in The Crucible. His pride caused him to cover who he really was a man who struggled with sin. Elizabeth Proctor, his wife, wanted him to admit his sins and put an end to Abigail Williams scheme that had brought about a witch hunt but John Proctor does not come clean until Elizabeth is among those accused and he feels guilt over his previous relationship with Abigail, the accuser. From reading her poetry, it is quite obvious that Plath s feminism is extremely important to her, but she also wrote about a lot of day to day experiences and made them significant through her use of literary devices such as metaphors and symbols. Plath may also be best known for her autobiographical poetry written in a confessional style that appeared during the 1950s. She is considered a very important poet of the post World War II era. Her mother, Aurelia Plath was pursuing a career in teaching when she met Sylvia s father. At the age of eight, Sylvia Plath published her first poem, her father would die in Winthrop, that same year. This would be the start of her lifelong career as a poet. Plath lived and wrote in the 1950s through the 1960s in both America and England (Bawer). As a modern period poet and feminist, growing up during WWII, some of Plath s work was directly related to the issues that were developing in society at the time. After WWII, societies were often characterized by strict gender norms. Women were expected to remain safely in their homes, with being a wife and a mother as their ultimate joy and goal. Art and expression became away from women to escape the everyday pressures of society. The poem The Applicant gives a glimpse of how Plath personally felt about women s rights and also touched on male dominance in her marriage. Through the poem, Plath shows the struggles of young women who are taught by society to pursue marriage and feel their worth only comes from their physical beauty. The poem begins ... Blood Glucose Level Changes Due Exercise And Serving Size Introduction Our whole project is surrounded around blood glucose level changes due exercise and serving size, so that brings about the question of what is blood glucose? Blood glucose is the sugar that is moved throughout the bloodstream to provide energy to all cells in the body. In simple terms, it is very important biological occurrence that drives the body by giving it the raw energy to power all the body s functions. To test for this occurrence, there are two main methods to test for the levels of blood glucose in the bloodstream. The kidneys are quite busy forming about 160 liters of filtrate daily (Powis, 1985, p. 182). This is very important because it is through the liver and kidneys that the nutrients start traveling through the bloodstream, especially glucose, sugar. Glucose is the favored energy fuel for most cells of the body (Silverstein, 1994, p. 28). Glucose is essentially sugar, which is the primitive source of energy for most of living organisms, and humans are no exception. Normally people have the biochemistry within their bodies to regulate their own blood sugar levels. However, this is not the case for some people, unfortunately, due to factors. The hormone insulin, which, helps sugar enter the body cells, is basically inactive in some people, which causes their whole biological system to start to deteriorate(Goodheart, 1990, p. 117). This is known as diabetes. Diabetes can come in two types, i.e type 1 and 2, which are caused by genetics or poor dietary habits. This can cause conditions like hyperglycemia, which is, a blood sugar level that is higher than normal (Goodheart, 1990, p.117). The opposite of this is hypoglycemia, which is, a blood sugar that is lower than normal (Goodheart, 1990, p.117). Research into blood glucose was then extensively done to help out with managing diabetes since there was no cure. This led to the creation of synthetic insulin that diabetics inject themselves to regulate their levels and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because of their long history there have been many factors that have influenced the production of documentaries such as societal and economical changes. One of what is debatably the largest factors that has influenced documentaries is they have been a part of and shaped by the rise and full of many technological advancements, such as cameras, audio equipment, editing stations and even the distribution of the films themselves. As such it is important to see the impact that these advancements have had on the making of documentaries both stylistically and technically. The centre of the conflict within these sectors of religion was The Reformation and the wars which followed, which created a struggle for power as different religions gained new support and thus power, and others experienced reduced power as a result. The resulting political and military turmoil created the growth of secularism, which attempted to stabilize politics and the military by increasing control. Therefore religion was so central to political and military conflict in the early modern period because the period was so strongly religious that it had more of an impact on political and military conflict than any other factor, because it was held in a higher regard than politics and the military sustained individually. As such it is not surprising that the movement for animal liberation stems from these concerns. In fact, they are explicitly allied with them. Most of the countries, permit abortion, however, some religions and countries consider abortion to be morally and ethically impermissible. In Canada, the abortion was legalized in 1988 based on the fact that the law should not force a women to carry a fetus beyond her priorities as it would interfere with her body and her own securities towards life. Many would argue against this view by stating that a fetus does have a right to live and thus, abortion is morally wrong. I believe that abortion is morally and ethically permissible as long as it does not violate significant rights of others. Literary Analysis Of Cormac Mccarthy s The Road In recent decades, Cormac McCarthy has staked his claim as one of the all time titans of American literature through publishing masterpieces like Blood Meridian, Suttree, and The Road. In his works his advanced level of technical mastery becomes apparent through his expertly harmonized coordination of literary elements toward certain narrative ends, such as the generation of suspense. In this light, McCarthy s literary style is a practical one, in that he organizes literary elements in his works toward actualizing particular goals. In The Road, for instance, McCarthy directs his style throughout the text so as to maximize the feeling of suspense that readers experience throughout the book. This kind of stylistic maneuvering is expressed on pages 105 110 and pages 118 123 of the the text. But, it must be noted here that the generation of suspense in these passages does not result from similar stylistic approaches. McCarthy uses style in differently in Passage A and Passage B but ultimately toward the same end, namely generating suspense for readers of The Road. Passage A relies on dialogue to develop its suspense, whereas the style of Passage B relies on narrative action for its suspense. In Passage A, McCarthy uses ambiguous and foreboding dialogue in order to generate narrative suspense.
