Jimmy The Promise Keeper And Aristotle s Eudaimonia
Jimmy the Promise Keeper
This video showed many people that were searching for ways to be happy. Not just momentarily
happy, but happy for the long run. We saw the journeys that; Jimmy, Diana, Jerry, Catherine, Richard,
Tim and Chris, went on to find true happiness. Aristotle believed that happiness was called
Eudaimonia, meaning good interior spirit. This interior spirit was more permanent and solid than what
happiness is. If Aristotle were here to look at these seven people and had to say which would be the
most likely to achieve his idea of Eudaimonia, I think it would be Jimmy the promise keeper. Based
on what I researched about the promise keepers and Aristotle s Eudaimonia, Jimmy seems to be the
most fitting in that he did not stop his life to find this inner spirit, and he wasn t buying it, he was
simply living it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this point they explained that he was at a Promise Keepers conference, the mission of this group is
to ignite and unite men to become warriors who will change their world through living out the Seven
Promises (About, 2016). Jimmy was within these men praying to God for two days. They pray about
many things including families and marriages. Before Jimmy came to the Promise Keepers he was
absent from his daughter s life. He wouldn t make eye contact with her, or play outside with her, he
did the bare minimum necessary to even be considered a father (Happiness Video). After he went to
the Promise Keepers and found the help he needed from God, he straightened his life up. Jimmy was
more involved and showed that he cared about his little girl (Happiness Video). The marriage that had
fallen apart causing a divorce, was now being put back together. Jimmy and his ex wife have

Novel Applications for Si facilitated Dental Implant Osseointegration and Periodontal Guided Bone
Regeneration: A Review of the Current Literature
Silicon has been used as a crucial component of restorative driven biomaterials in dentistry. However,
the use of silicon for periodontally driven therapies and dental implant treatment outcomes has not
been explored as extensively as there are certain unique properties of this metalloid that are
functionally plausible as an evident potential useful agent for periodontal and dental implant therapies.
The exact biological role of silicon on bone health and connective tissue is not fully understood,
however, it has been postulated in the literature that silicon plays a significant role in ... Show more

(5) In addition, periodontal guided bone regeneration and tissue regeneration has been shown effective
on surface modified ceramic implants with micropatterned silica coatings. (6) Silica coatings on
ceramic implants have not only shown favorable effects on bone health, but also soft tissue via
promotion of tight tissue apposition thus potentially preventing post implant placement gingival
retraction and peri implantitis. (6)
In addition, the zirconia vs. titanium debate of implant material for maxillofacial and dental use may
soon be reformed as the silicon nitride implant receives more attention from the dental community.
This is due primarily to the substantial anti bacterial properties of silicon nitride (SI3N4) implants
when compared with titanium, zirconia, and polyetheretherketone (PEEK) implants. Anti infective
properties of silicon nitride implants have shown superior resistance to bacterial infection and biofilm
accumulation on implant surfaces. (4) One in vitro study cited live bacteria counts around PEEK
(88%) and titanium (21%) implants, whereas none were present adjacent to silicon nitride implants.
(7) As a byproduct of these anti bacterial properties,

Burn Burns In The United States
I felt intense warmth around my bed frame. Just as I was about to open my eyes I sensed a strong
surge of pain that overwhelmed my body, as I looked down at my legs, I saw a sea of orange flames
devouring my bed sheets. It was in that moment that I realized that my house was on fire, and my legs
were burned. This is an example of how most Americans experience home fires. In fact, residential
properties have the most fire related deaths (76.5%), fire injuries (78.0%) and fire dollar loss (55.0%)
in the United States (United States Fire Administration, 2013). The most popular injuries related to
fires are burn wounds. Burn wounds can be categorized into three different levels: first degree, second
degree, and third degree burns.

To What Extent Is Futabatei s Ukigumo, Japan s First...
During the Meiji period, Japan was faced with a plethora of issues regarding its future. One of these
issues was the future of Japanese literature. At that time, novels were still regarded as a third rate art
form in Japan, though foreign books were highly sought after by the Japanese public. There were
many ways to write Japanese, each system with its own use for specific occasions. And yet, the idea of
writing in the style of natural conversational Japanese was considered radical and inappropriate for
literature by the general public. Most foreign novels were translated poorly, into a writing style known
as kanbun chô which was mostly based around Chinese loan words. As a result, this style had a very
rigid and legal feel, due to Chinese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Japan already had a very strong literary history prior to the Meiji restoration, however, if the Japanese
people were to take this heritage into the modern era then they would have to adapt to this new style
of writing fiction.
While studying Russian at Tôkyô gaikoku go gakkô, a student named Futabatei Shimei realised the
inefficiency of the kanbun chô and gabuntai styles when translating Russian novels into Japanese. And
through logical continuation, he understood that writing a Japanese novel for the modern era would
mean having to drop these traditional writing styles as well. In January 1886, Futabatei met with
Tsubouchi Shôyô. Shôyô s criticism, Shōsetsu Shinzui had struck a chord with Futabatei, who had
envisioned many of the same ideas while reading Russian literature. Tsubouchi had himself published
a novel known as Tōsei Shosei Kishitsu, which he had hoped would achieve his goals in becoming the
book to bring Japanese literature into the modern era. Unfortunately, he failed to avoid the same
exaggerated and coincidental plot developments which he himself criticised. Furthermore, the
characterisation displayed in the novel was described as, weak and shows little psychological
penetration 4 . Resigned to the realisation that his talent lay in critique and translation, he decided to
focus his attention on tutoring other writers to achieve what he had tried to do. With Tsubouchi s
guidance, and

Environmental Control and Pollution in Nigeria
INTRODUCTION
Civilization has been overwhelmed with fearful reports that mankind is steadily working towards self
destruction through the process of uncontrolled pollution of the environment. A casual look at our
surroundings shows reckless attitude of people towards environmental preservation.
Due to this development, regulations and standards have been set to ensure cleaner and safer
environment. These regulations are enforced by agencies like National Environmental Standard and
Regulation Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Federal Environmental Protection Agency (FEPA) and
State Environmental Protection Agencies (SEPAs).

They impart a high Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) load to the liquid waste. These organic
compounds are readily degraded in aqueous medium by soil and microorganisms present in the
sewage. During this process, Dissolved Oxygen (DO) in the stream is used up. When the DO is
reduced below a certain limit, aquatic life is affected adversely. Oil spillage from tankers and ships
leads to the pollution of beaches. Some wastes from pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries and
coke ovens contain phenols which are toxic to fish, microorganisms and other aquatic life. Liquid
effluents from industries manufacturing drugs, dyestuffs, pesticides and detergents can also be toxic.
Usage of anionic detergents which are not biodegradable leads to a lot of foaming and frothing.
Inorganic pollutants and heavy metal pollution
Alkalis, acids, inorganic salts and other chemicals formed during processing lead to inorganic
pollution. Besides being the cause of corrosion of metals, these chemicals are toxic to aquatic life.
Industries like paper and pulp, tanneries, textiles and coke ovens among many others, discharge these
chemicals. Inorganic chemicals such as free chlorine, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide and other sulfides,
salts of metals like Cr, Ni, Zn, Cd, Cu, Ag etc. are usually found in metal plating liquid wastes, alkali

Government Spending In The United States
With the transition of a new President and Administration one can only think of how our economy will
be in the next four years. America is a melting plot therefore we are not always going to agree on
where Government spends our money. Some support more spending on education and new
construction for roads while others support a less involved government. We have seen in the past that
when there s a high level of government spending our economy blooms. We can benefit from this
because we have more move to spend and put back into the economy.
Some would rather a limited power government. The republican prospective thinks that a government

If our government didn t spend anything would we have any type increase in our economy? I do not
thing we would. Who would pay for the necessity things we need in order to thrive as a country. How
would we keep up with our transportation system, invest in our future or keep us from totalitarianism?
We have to have some type involvement from the government. I the 2016 election outcome came due
to the fact that a lot of people felt like President Obama and his administration implicated too many
policies that increase government spending. Such policies geared towards health care reform and
income inequality. All in which increased taxes for each individual. I think a lot of people feel like the
last eight years of government spending cost the tax payers a lot of unnecessary money. People were
paying taxed for programs they didn t support or agree with. In fiscal year 2015, the federal
government spent $3.7 trillion, amounting to 21 percent of the nation s gross domestic product (GDP).
Of that $3.7 trillion, over $3.2 trillion was financed by federal revenues. The remaining amount ($438
billion) was financed by borrowing. As the chart below shows, three major areas of spending each
make up about one fifth of the budget (Center on Budget and Policy Priorities). This article outlines

Christianity In Beowulf
Beowulf is an exciting tale about a Scandinavian man named Beowulf, who saves the Danes from an
unconquerable monster called Grendel. It is not known who the author of Beowulf. It is theorized that
the book had more than one author over a period of time. Another theory is that Beowulf only had one
author and other writers changed or added content to the story. Beowulf has many Christian aspects.
God is brought up many times throughout the book. The different monsters also represent the different
sins that humans commit almost daily. Grendel is envy and anger, Grendel s mother is feuding, and the
dragon is greed and hoarding. Beowulf was written in the time when England was being converted to
Christianity from paganism. Because of this, there are doubts that the authors of Beowulf knew about
God. Throughout the book, there are many indications that the author(s) of Beowulf knew about God s
existence. While it is doubted, they still praised God, acknowledged that he ... Show more content on

Beowulf defeated Grendel, Hrothgar was shown Grendel s talon as proof. The king gazed upward and

with God s assistance. When Grendel s mother attacked the Danes after her son was killed, Hrothgar
lost his hope and faith. Beowulf assured him that they would catch Grendel s mother and avenge those

Apple Vs. Apple Inc.
Company rivalries have always existed in the free market, each trying to dominate the consumer of
their respective product. Microsoft vs. Apple. Ford vs. Chevy. Dunkin Donuts vs. Starbucks. The latter
two focus attention on the coffee fueled masses, rushing to work on a weekday morning or relaxing
with their wifi whilst sipping java. By exploring my local Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks coffee shops,
I was able to glean some interesting insight into the two rival s 4P marketing approaches. Despite
having a seemingly similar goal of selling the most coffee, breakfast, and lunch type products to
consumers, Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks parade their product, price, place, and promotion each to a
different drum. Upon walking into each coffee shop, there was evident disparity in the products
offered at each venue. Dunkin Donuts on Cypress Street in Kennett Square is also a Baskin Robbins
ice cream shop. The items for sale included and array of hot and iced coffee and coffee specialty
drinks, breakfast foods like bagels, donuts, egg sandwiches, and lunch items like turkey sandwiches
and pizzas. There was a clear focus on coffee AND donuts here, and a definite convenience and fast
food vibe. The coffee and food items are of good quality, but seemingly mass produced and premade.
Contrastingly, Starbucks Coffee Shop in the Longwood Shopping area of Kennett Square had a wider
variety of specialty coffee drinks and coffee types, with no focus on donuts. They did, however, have

Is Heathcliff A Hero Or A Villain
Can you love someone so much that it drives you mad? In Emily Bronte s gothic romance novel,
Wuthering Heights, she presents a character, Heathcliff, who is driven with so much passion for his
one true love, Catherine, that he resorts to acts of violence to defend his love for her. Heathcliff is an
antihero and his character has many complexities due to his undying love for Catherine. Although
Heathcliff s character is complex, most of his violence originates within him simply because he suffers
from a deep passionate love for the one and only Catherine.
In the beginning, the narrator says Heathcliff s quietness is not because of his gentleness but rather his
hardness. Accordingly, this foreshadows that Heathcliff s character will be very prominent in the story
because the reader can interpret this quietness that is due to hardness may be a probable conflict later
in the story. Heathcliff s defensiveness is a consequence of his love for Catherine. She later marries
another man and she sees no problem with it because she believes that if they truly are soul mates ...

nest of baby birds that prevented the mother bird from feeding them which resulted in their starvation.
She then says that he should not have done it and assures him that she would always come back to
him. Moreover, Heathcliff s violence is not the only encompassing trait in his character because he
also possesses a sympathetic quality that he only shows toward Catherine. As Catherine lies dying,
Heathcliff has eyes for her only and his love for her is displayed as he passionately kisses her one last
time before she dies. Nevertheless, Heathcliff s violence due to love and passion makes his character
very complex, therefore, it is hard to distinguish when he is acting out of love or pure

and marketing strategies for companies and their associate brands are nearly endless. One such device
that is very common in marketing strategies, for it can be very influential and persuasive on the target

Any time you create a brochure, design a website, make a business card, or make posters and flyers,
you are utilizing graphic designing. It will be what you try to call your audience to when you reach out
to them through your direct marketing strategies. Grabbing the attention of your audience is only half
the battle. You need to have a platform to display your brand and products on that will be appealing to
the consumer. Through Graphic design you can design a web page that will allow you to maintain a
consumer s attention after you have initially grabbed it through your direct marketing strategy.
First Impressions
Within the first few seconds at arriving at your company s site, many users will already have formed a
decision in their mind. Visitors are very quick to pass judgment on a site after first encountering it.
Many times they will not even view your brand or product before they have decided that they feel a
connection or not. Through graphic design you will be able to create a website that is visually pleasing
to your audience so that the audience reaction you gained through your direct marketing isn t wasted,
but encouraged instead. More

Calculus And Similarities Between Newton And Leibniz
In order to dive into precursors to calculus we need to understand exactly what calculus itself is. So
what is it? According to the Merriam Webster dictionary calculus is defined as a branch of
mathematics that deals mostly with rate of change and with finding lengths, areas, and volumes; it is
divided into two types: integral and differential. The calculus we have come to know and love has
been around for quite some time, dating all the way back to its creation which is credited to Newton
and Leibniz. But what if there was an ancient form of calculus before our modern calculus? Many
ancient civilizations were brilliant and used mathematics in ways that the people before them never
could but is there enough evidence to support the theory that calculus was not simply the conception
of the two rivals Newton and Leibniz? According to Dr. John H. Lienhard the bare bones of [calculus]
had been hatching before either Newton or Leibniz was born. Ancient Egypt was one of the
civilizations that was hatching the bare bones of calculus. We will discuss the problems the ancient
Egyptians were trying to solve as well as the methods or techniques they used and why this leads to
the conclusion that neither Newton or Leibniz should be solely credited with the birth of calculus.
Ancient Egypt has long been a focus for many of us here in the modern world. With its magnificent
architecture, culture, and interesting literature it has baffled the minds of many great thinkers. It is

The Pros And Cons Of Justifying The Aeneid War
When the Greeks achieved victory over Troy, Aeneas fled with the other Trojan survivors. The Trojans
spent countless years searching for a new home, and finally found Italia. Due to a much earlier
grudge, Juno stirs up trouble and plunges the Trojans and Latins into war. The fact that the Trojans are
initially peaceful, that King Latinus wishes to ally with the Trojans, and that the rulers who fight the
Trojans are tyrants, justifies the Aeneid War.
First, the Trojans have not intentionally provoked the rulers of the cities of Italia. When the Trojans
arrive, they declare peace and bring gifts to the Latins. When the Latins attack the Trojans, the Trojans
seek peace with the people of King Evander and the Estruscans. The Trojans originally

Pride has many benefits and many downfalls. Many qualities of pride can be beneficial, to be proud of
family or friends can be uplifting and can form strong bonds. But pride can also mask genuine human
emotions; stop those who feel pride from showing vulnerability, or weakness. The qualities of pride
itself can be complex and inconceivable, like many human qualities. Each particular emotion has
diverse and opposite effects, pride for example can be a word used to describe utter happiness and
fulfillment, while others can use pride to close themselves off. In the book Stone Angel, written by the
well known author Margaret Laurence, pride is often portrayed as a negative quality. It is used as a

The Relationship Between The Sat Scores And Family Income...
IB Math SL Internal Assessment: What is the relationship between the SAT scores and family income
of candidates around the world? By: Rahul Suresh What is the relationship between the SAT scores
and family income of candidates around the world? Introduction: The SAT is a standardized test
widely used for college and university admissions in the United States. It was first introduced in 1926,
and its name and scoring system have changed several times throughout the years. Many students
around the world that want to pursue post secondary institutions in the US make it a point to write the
SAT at least once in their high school career to better their chances of getting a higher score. This test
has three parts to it one reading, writing and one math. In order to achieve the best score that they can
possibly get and be placed in the highest possible percentile, students may decide to attend SAT
preparation classes starting from the early years of High/Middle School. The unfortunate reality of
these extra preparation courses is that they are quite expensive, and due to this, they mostly cater
towards to higher or higher middle class families. Courses that provide extra preparation such as Ivy
Global are not very affordable to many families and so students. According to many statistics and
news reports, the higher the test taker s family income, the higher their scores in the test. This has
been a topic of great controversy as we have grown in the modern society

Atrial Septal Disorder Case Studies
Ryan case study
1. Discuss the pathophysiology of atrial septal defect?
A septal defect is the connection between left and right side of the heart. The opening in the atrial
septum permits left to right shunting of blood. The opening may be small, as when the foramen ovale
fails to close, or large, as when the septum may be completely absent.
2. What is the incidence and etiology of this congenital heart defect?
Congenital defects of the atrial septum are common, accounting for approximately 13 percent of
congenital heart disorders, with a reported birth prevalence of approximately 2 per 1000 live births.
Every child is born with an opening between the upper heart chambers. It s a normal fetal opening that

Forensic Pros
In the event that any firearm is discovered at a crime scene there are certain steps that need to be done
in order to properly collect any type of firearm evidence. If there is any kind of firearm found at the
scene it should be rendered safe immediately. For safety is the first priority at any crime scene.
Forensic technicians should assign an evidence number to the firearm, photograph orientation and
close up view s, and take measurements of the firearm s location prior to collecting it. In order to
deem a semiautomatic pistol safe, the forensic technician should be wearing latex gloves an unload the
weapon as follows; (Tina Young, 2011)
1. Grasp the pistol at the grip pointing the pistol downward and away from people.
2. Avoid contact with smooth surfaces that may contain latent fingerprints.

Nothing Can Be Good or Evil in Itself Essay
Nothing Can Be Good or Evil in Itself
Truth, beauty, and goodness are not eternal, objective realities which man discovers, but are the
creative products of the human mind as it exercises its will to power . In other words, man is a creator
of values. (Nietzsche) So what is good and evil, but that defined by man and therefore a purely
subjective concept. Could we, society, have one without the other? By determining what is good, we
in turn determine what is evil. How do we know what they are; that is if they really exist? One must
first try to define what good and evil are before attempting to question their existence.

His actions were good, not just because they were intended to be good for the whole society, but
because society viewed them as being for the good.
Good must also be addressed in terms not related to human actions. In the eyes of our society, a flower
would be undoubtedly considered good, or a symbol of good. However, there is nothing in a flower
that makes it good, other than its ability to be pleasing to society. The flower does not have the ability
to make an overt decision to cause evil; therefore we view it as being good. Of course, Webster s
dictionary doesn t quite cover this concept of good and tends to cause some confusion when
addressing it.
So, what is evil? Is it Hitler s near annihilation of the Jewish people during World War II or the
senseless massacre at Ti enneman Square on mainland China? Again we turn to Webster s dictionary,
which states evil as causing distress or harm, a source of sorrow, and the fact of suffering, misfortune,
and wrongdoing. (Merriam Webster) Evil would be any intention to cause an undesirable effect upon
one s self or on another person. So by saying that the intentions of a person are not to cause good we
automatically assume that they are out to cause evil.
For instance, religious and political leaders of Dr. Martin Luther King s time resisted all efforts on his
part toward equality because he would be attempting to change an accepted way of life. King

For this experiment, our hypothesis was that if we used sweatshirt fabric, then it will cause the UV

The control date remained the same throughout the experiment. Each indicator bead stayed at 5 on the
UV color guide. The experimental data varied. The beads that were under the sweatshirt and the t shirt
fabric had a 2 on the UV color guide, while the hat fabric had a 1. First, I said that the sweatshirt
fabric would make the bead have the lowest number on the UV color guide. I was wrong because the
sweatshirt fabric scored a 2. Next, my hypothesis said that the t shirt fabric would cause the bead to
have a darker color than the sweatshirt fabric. That was incorrect because the t shirt also scored a 2,

a darker color. That wasn t right because the hat made the bead have the lightest color, which was a 1

a couple of years back around the time when I was five years old. I mean of course I had been in a
pool before that, but I had to wear floaties since my parents would be scared to death if something
awful occurred. When I finally turned five; however, my parents thought it was time for the floaties to
come off and I thought so too. I was ecstatic at the thought of the floaties finally coming off after all
this time. There was not a glance of fear through my mind until I got to the pool. However, at that first
glance looking back into my past I remember the first thought that crossed my mind as I looked
towards the pool. This is going to be easy I thought. I was delusional I had no idea how wrong I was
until I took those first steps into the deep end of the pool. After a couple of days, I can remember this

The Experience of Pain
There is a common tie that connects people around the world: the experience of pain. While many
people experience pain differently, and experience pain relative to their own levels of tolerance, pain
is a universal sensation, and, at times, a shared experience. While individual physical pain is isolated
to one s own body, empathy for the physical pain of others and the resulting emotional pain can be
shared. Being empathetic and considerate towards others not only brings people together, but also
reinforces the mark of existence we all share due to the presence of pain. The nature of pain pushes the
body and the mind to its limits, and because of this, it is a feeling that many people try to avoid.
However, pain is important and necessary to the human experience because it is a mark of existence,
teaching one to exercise sympathy, perseverance, and appreciation in a complex world shared by
many.
Pain has the ability to teach one to appreciate and embrace life. Pain is also a clear signal that one is
alive. In her essay, The Pain Scale, Eula Biss talks about how the four vital signs used to determine the
health of a patient are blood pressure, temperature, breath, and pulse. She also adds that it has recently
been suggested that pain be considered a fifth vital sign (175). This quote illustrates that pain is
necessary to the human experience. Because pain can be considered a vital sign, it is important to note
that although at times difficult to endure, pain is a marker

Features of Decision Making in a Political System
WHAT FEATURES OF DECISION MAKING IN POLITICAL SYSTEMS INFLUENCE THE
PRACTICE OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS?
INTRODUCTION
The changing role of law and the need to relate with a transforming society and its citizens has led to a
demand on decision making in political systems (Bijsterveld 2010). Due to the variance in the
decision making of these systems, interest groups carry out their public affairs (PA) activities in a
plethora of ways (Baumgartner 2007) as features such as type of political system, structure,
accountability, dependency on interest groups, etcetera influence PA practices. This stems from the
fact that issues that are significant in one political system might not be as significant in another
(Lowery, Poppelaars and Berkhout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
PA is however carried out in an unbiased and harmonious way as lobbyists work hand in hand with
EU officials (Woll 2006, Mahoney 2008) and other interest groups, as the EU would rather grant
access to a Europeanized voice when addressing issues.
With regards to choice of policies to influence, interest groups in the US are more focused on
influencing legislative matters rather than regulatory policies (Baumgartner 2007, Mahoney 2008) as
they seeks to influence the decisions of the congress, the court or the administrative government
(Hansford 2004). The EU is a regulatory regime, therefore, organized interest groups particularly
business interests prefer to lobby regulatory processes to secure their individual and collective
business interests (Levy and Prakash 2003). This is done because regulatory processes affect
businesses and more often than not have policy outcomes (Baumgartner 2007).
The level of dependence on organized civil societies (OCS) is another feature that influences the
practice of PA. EU s dependence on OCS arises from their lack of resources both financial and human,
to carry out their activities. The EU commission is highly short staffed, and in need of OCS to provide
technical information and act as contributory agents (Greenwood 2007). Therefore, OCS play
consultative and cooperative roles particularly in the Commission as

Assessment of Debates on Media Effects
A long history lies behind question about how communication affects or influences people. Greeks
developed sophisticated hypothesis about how to impress listeners through the spoken word and
Aristotle was concerned with theorizing the art of speaking. Even nowadays in face to face
conversations each of us mobilizes theories about how to influence our listeners. For instance, we
wish to make others understand how we feel or what we think. Today, mass communication studies
have developed as a discipline with a focus on television and newspapers and, to a lesser extent,
cinema and radio. Thanks to mass communication technologies a programme can now be viewed ...

In short, if researchers had not showed some of the materials about which they were asking the
respondents to comment on, they would not normally have viewed them. Therefore, as Barker and
Petley (2001:4) conclude after a research focused on women s responses to four very different kinds of
programme, the issue is not whether depictions of violence increase the likelihood of similar violence
among potential perpetrators, but the feelings and reactions that it creates among those who are the
actual or potential victims of violence . The important point is not so much violent representations can
be the cause of world violence, as what people feel while they are watching some kind of violent
depictions.
We can also note that the media depictions of violence which the effects model typically condemns are
limited to fictional productions. As Gauntlett (1998:125) says there is no obvious reason why the
antisocial activities which are always in the news, and which frequently do not have such apparent
consequences for their agents, should not have similar effects . Most of the studies about media effects
almost always separate their discussions of entertainment from news. Turow (1999) believes that
people have been taught to expect more from

I Ching And Confucianism
The I Ching, the Book of Change, the foundation of all Chinese religion and science, is an ancient
Chinese divination text that provides influential text in religion, literature, and art. It provided
guidance for moral decision making, based on Taoism and Confucianism. The I Ching can be read as a
microcosm of the universe, explaining how to keep human behavior in unity with the alternating series
of nature. Chinese tradition was divided into Confucianism, the exoteric, and Taoism, the esoteric, but
both see the world and God as a whole, the cosmos. Although different, both religions allowed their
followers to find God in all things, Confucianism through the natural order, and Taoism through the
Tao. Both of these religions encouraged knowledge beyond the physical world and beyond that which
can be known with the senses. Confucianism puts emphasis on relationships and social harmony,
keeping the core humanistic, more focused on problems of ethics and society. It revolves around the
pursuit of unity of the self and the Principle of Heaven, the cosmos, which overrule human efforts.
Confucianism is often called rujiao, meaning the teaching of the ru, which is one who is conversant
with the Heaven, Earth, and humans, the three domains of human knowledge. Then there is ren which
is the collection of all essential human qualities. Confucianism regards the activities of human life as a

The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill
Introduction
The Deepwater Horizon oil spill (also referred to as the BP oil spill) occurred in the Gulf of Mexico in
April of 2010. The spill had detrimental physical, chemical, and biological effects throughout
ecosystems in the Gulf of Mexico. The Deepwater Horizon oil spill being the largest accidental marine
oil spill in the history of the United States, makes it a very important event in US history. During the
event many coastal areas along the Gulf of Mexico were coated with oil, including the plants, animals,
beaches, etc. This directly affected coastal ecosystems in the Gulf, and as a result, impacted many
coastal economies: fishing industries, restaurants/food industries, tourism, and real estate. Many
coastal species were also affected (e.g. dolphins, shorebirds, and phytoplankton). These issues that are
associated with the spill, along with technology and the media, helped to support the anti BP
movement. Much research is still being done, and many long term effects of the oil spill are still
uncertain.
This paper will analyze the causation of the oil spill, and the actions BP took to stop the leak.
Controversial chemicals such as Corexit 9500 will be evaluated. Long term and short term
environmental impacts of the event will be analyzed. As mentioned above, the Deepwater Horizon oil
spill had social/economic impacts on Gulf States, this will also be evaluated. After the event, or post

The Pros And Cons Of Physical Castration
The issue of whether sex offenders should be chemically or physically castrated has been one that has
sparked much debate over the years. There are many people who believe, apart from murder or
treason, that sexual abuse is one of the worst crimes that a person can commit against another. In these
circumstances, many have voiced the proposition that such an offender, especially when they are
repeat offenders, be punished in the harshest way allowed. Apart from the obvious jail term, the extra
punishment would be either surgical or chemical castration (Beech Grubin, 2010). Castration has two
ways that it can be done: surgical and chemical. Surgical castration involves the removal of the testes

Leonardo da Vinci is one of the most well-known geniuses...
Leonardo da Vinci is one of the most well known geniuses in human history. This man masters

the world and the amazing and mysterious details in the painting attracted a number of scientists and

which is a period of time when arts flourished and knowledge was valued, Leonardo was surrounded

One can tell his serious attitude toward this matter through his notes on painting:
It is indispensable to a painter, in order to be thoroughly familiar with the limbs in all the positions and

tendons... he may know which nerve or muscle is the cause of each movement... 3
His support for realistic and naturalistic style of painting accord with the general theme of art pieces
produced during Renaissance time. Renaissance paintings put emphasis on proportions and
mathematic perspectives1. A good painting was supposed to look as real and vivid as possible.
Leonardo s works are perfect examples regarding this aspect.
Through his notes, one can learn that Leonardo favors painting than any other forms of art. He
believes that painting is most flexible, variable, and expressive in every way, whilst sculpture is stiff,
cold, and lacks many characteristics of nature; and poem tedious to understand. 3 From his written

world s population at the time.
The Rise of the Roman Empire:
The Roman Empire rise set of a chain reaction in which an event caused and the empire to form, and
because of this, many of changes the new Empire brought about affect our lives today. In 52BC, Julius
Caesar started a revolution which cause the fall of Republican Rome, and the rise of the Roman
Empire. This caused changes to laws and politics, architecture, and caused new inventions, colonies,
and roads to be formed, gave us religions, and gave us the languages and alphabets that have been
developed into something we use in our everyday lives.
Law and Politics:
Although roman law is not used today, many jurisdictions are based on principles and structures of
law that were used and developed in the time of the Roman Empire.
The Roman Empire ruled in the form of an Emperor, and a senate. The senate consisted of many
senators and two consuls, who along with the emperor had positions of higher power than the other
senators in the meetings. The senate had the power to regulate festivals and religious cults, grant
special honours, excuse an individual of legal liability, manage

Spartacus Compared To American Slavery
Roman slavery was a complex institute with great diversity, and while some aspects of it were
comparable to American slavery, limiting it to these comparisons would be inaccurate. Nonetheless,
Kubrick s Spartacus chooses to emphasize the aspects that were comparable to American slavery in
order to comment on the Civil Rights Movement of the time. At the same time, the gladiators
represent ideals that would be associated with communism at the time this movie was released, and
the positive portrayal of the communal aspects of this slave society also offers commentary on
McCarthyism. In Spartacus, several aspects of Roman slavery are portrayed in a manner similar to
American slavery, in order to invoke a cultural memory, and highlight how wrong ... Show more

Like most renditions of the Spartacus story, the movie uses its artistic license to create these dualities,
which may not have necessarily been accurate depictions of Rome, but which resonated with America
at the time. It both comments on and instructs Americans, and opens them up to ideas that they d
otherwise reject by presenting them in the guise of ancient

  • 2. Jimmy The Promise Keeper And Aristotle s Eudaimonia Jimmy the Promise Keeper This video showed many people that were searching for ways to be happy. Not just momentarily happy, but happy for the long run. We saw the journeys that; Jimmy, Diana, Jerry, Catherine, Richard, Tim and Chris, went on to find true happiness. Aristotle believed that happiness was called Eudaimonia, meaning good interior spirit. This interior spirit was more permanent and solid than what happiness is. If Aristotle were here to look at these seven people and had to say which would be the most likely to achieve his idea of Eudaimonia, I think it would be Jimmy the promise keeper. Based on what I researched about the promise keepers and Aristotle s Eudaimonia, Jimmy seems to be the most fitting in that he did not stop his life to find this inner spirit, and he wasn t buying it, he was simply living it. ... He wouldn t make eye contact with her, or play outside with her, he did the bare minimum necessary to even be considered a father (Happiness Video). After he went to the Promise Keepers and found the help he needed from God, he straightened his life up. Jimmy was more involved and showed that he cared about his little girl (Happiness Video). Dental Implant Essay Novel Applications for Si facilitated Dental Implant Osseointegration and Periodontal Guided Bone Regeneration: A Review of the Current Literature Silicon has been used as a crucial component of restorative driven biomaterials in dentistry. However, the use of silicon for periodontally driven therapies and dental implant treatment outcomes has not been explored as extensively as there are certain unique properties of this metalloid that are functionally plausible as an evident potential useful agent for periodontal and dental implant therapies. The exact biological role of silicon on bone health and connective tissue is not fully understood, however, it has been postulated in the literature that silicon plays a significant role in ... (6) Silica coatings on ceramic implants have not only shown favorable effects on bone health, but also soft tissue via promotion of tight tissue apposition thus potentially preventing post implant placement gingival retraction and peri implantitis. (6) In addition, the zirconia vs. titanium debate of implant material for maxillofacial and dental use may soon be reformed as the silicon nitride implant receives more attention from the dental community. This is due primarily to the substantial anti bacterial properties of silicon nitride (SI3N4) implants when compared with titanium, zirconia, and polyetheretherketone (PEEK) implants. Anti infective properties of silicon nitride implants have shown superior resistance to bacterial infection and biofilm accumulation on implant surfaces. Just as I was about to open my eyes I sensed a strong surge of pain that overwhelmed my body, as I looked down at my legs, I saw a sea of orange flames devouring my bed sheets. It was in that moment that I realized that my house was on fire, and my legs were burned. This is an example of how most Americans experience home fires. In fact, residential properties have the most fire related deaths (76.5%), fire injuries (78.0%) and fire dollar loss (55.0%) in the United States (United States Fire Administration, 2013). The most popular injuries related to fires are burn wounds. Burn wounds can be categorized into three different levels: first degree, second degree, and third degree burns. As the degree ... • 5. To What Extent Is Futabatei s Ukigumo, Japan s First... During the Meiji period, Japan was faced with a plethora of issues regarding its future. One of these issues was the future of Japanese literature. At that time, novels were still regarded as a third rate art form in Japan, though foreign books were highly sought after by the Japanese public. There were many ways to write Japanese, each system with its own use for specific occasions. And yet, the idea of writing in the style of natural conversational Japanese was considered radical and inappropriate for literature by the general public. Most foreign novels were translated poorly, into a writing style known as kanbun chô which was mostly based around Chinese loan words. As a result, this style had a very rigid and legal feel, due to Chinese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Japan already had a very strong literary history prior to the Meiji restoration, however, if the Japanese people were to take this heritage into the modern era then they would have to adapt to this new style of writing fiction. While studying Russian at Tôkyô gaikoku go gakkô, a student named Futabatei Shimei realised the inefficiency of the kanbun chô and gabuntai styles when translating Russian novels into Japanese. And through logical continuation, he understood that writing a Japanese novel for the modern era would mean having to drop these traditional writing styles as well. In January 1886, Futabatei met with Tsubouchi Shôyô. Shôyô s criticism, Shōsetsu Shinzui had struck a chord with Futabatei, who had envisioned many of the same ideas while reading Russian literature. Tsubouchi had himself published a novel known as Tōsei Shosei Kishitsu, which he had hoped would achieve his goals in becoming the book to bring Japanese literature into the modern era. Unfortunately, he failed to avoid the same exaggerated and coincidental plot developments which he himself criticised. Furthermore, the characterisation displayed in the novel was described as, weak and shows little psychological penetration 4 . Resigned to the realisation that his talent lay in critique and translation, he decided to focus his attention on tutoring other writers to achieve what he had tried to do. It is not known who the author of Beowulf. It is theorized that the book had more than one author over a period of time. Another theory is that Beowulf only had one author and other writers changed or added content to the story. Beowulf has many Christian aspects. God is brought up many times throughout the book. The different monsters also represent the different sins that humans commit almost daily. Grendel is envy and anger, Grendel s mother is feuding, and the dragon is greed and hoarding. Beowulf was written in the time when England was being converted to Christianity from paganism. Because of this, there are doubts that the authors of Beowulf knew about God. Dunkin Donuts vs. Starbucks. The latter two focus attention on the coffee fueled masses, rushing to work on a weekday morning or relaxing with their wifi whilst sipping java. By exploring my local Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks coffee shops, I was able to glean some interesting insight into the two rival s 4P marketing approaches. Despite having a seemingly similar goal of selling the most coffee, breakfast, and lunch type products to consumers, Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks parade their product, price, place, and promotion each to a different drum. Upon walking into each coffee shop, there was evident disparity in the products offered at each venue. Dunkin Donuts on Cypress Street in Kennett Square is also a Baskin Robbins ice cream shop. The items for sale included and array of hot and iced coffee and coffee specialty drinks, breakfast foods like bagels, donuts, egg sandwiches, and lunch items like turkey sandwiches and pizzas. There was a clear focus on coffee AND donuts here, and a definite convenience and fast food vibe. The coffee and food items are of good quality, but seemingly mass produced and premade. Contrastingly, Starbucks Coffee Shop in the Longwood Shopping area of Kennett Square had a wider variety of specialty coffee drinks and coffee types, with no focus on donuts. • 10. Is Heathcliff A Hero Or A Villain Can you love someone so much that it drives you mad? In Emily Bronte s gothic romance novel, Wuthering Heights, she presents a character, Heathcliff, who is driven with so much passion for his one true love, Catherine, that he resorts to acts of violence to defend his love for her. Heathcliff is an antihero and his character has many complexities due to his undying love for Catherine. Although Heathcliff s character is complex, most of his violence originates within him simply because he suffers from a deep passionate love for the one and only Catherine. In the beginning, the narrator says Heathcliff s quietness is not because of his gentleness but rather his hardness. Accordingly, this foreshadows that Heathcliff s character will be very prominent in the story because the reader can interpret this quietness that is due to hardness may be a probable conflict later in the story. Moreover, Heathcliff s violence is not the only encompassing trait in his character because he also possesses a sympathetic quality that he only shows toward Catherine. As Catherine lies dying, Heathcliff has eyes for her only and his love for her is displayed as he passionately kisses her one last time before she dies. • 12. Calculus And Similarities Between Newton And Leibniz In order to dive into precursors to calculus we need to understand exactly what calculus itself is. So what is it? According to the Merriam Webster dictionary calculus is defined as a branch of mathematics that deals mostly with rate of change and with finding lengths, areas, and volumes; it is divided into two types: integral and differential. The calculus we have come to know and love has been around for quite some time, dating all the way back to its creation which is credited to Newton and Leibniz. But what if there was an ancient form of calculus before our modern calculus? Many ancient civilizations were brilliant and used mathematics in ways that the people before them never could but is there enough evidence to support the theory that calculus was not simply the conception of the two rivals Newton and Leibniz? According to Dr. John H. Lienhard the bare bones of [calculus] had been hatching before either Newton or Leibniz was born. Ancient Egypt was one of the civilizations that was hatching the bare bones of calculus. We will discuss the problems the ancient Egyptians were trying to solve as well as the methods or techniques they used and why this leads to the conclusion that neither Newton or Leibniz should be solely credited with the birth of calculus. While many people experience pain differently, and experience pain relative to their own levels of tolerance, pain is a universal sensation, and, at times, a shared experience. INTRODUCTION The changing role of law and the need to relate with a transforming society and its citizens has led to a demand on decision making in political systems (Bijsterveld 2010). Due to the variance in the decision making of these systems, interest groups carry out their public affairs (PA) activities in a plethora of ways (Baumgartner 2007) as features such as type of political system, structure, accountability, dependency on interest groups, etcetera influence PA practices. This stems from the fact that issues that are significant in one political system might not be as significant in another (Lowery, Poppelaars and Berkhout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... PA is however carried out in an unbiased and harmonious way as lobbyists work hand in hand with EU officials (Woll 2006, Mahoney 2008) and other interest groups, as the EU would rather grant access to a Europeanized voice when addressing issues. With regards to choice of policies to influence, interest groups in the US are more focused on influencing legislative matters rather than regulatory policies (Baumgartner 2007, Mahoney 2008) as they seeks to influence the decisions of the congress, the court or the administrative government (Hansford 2004). The EU is a regulatory regime, therefore, organized interest groups particularly business interests prefer to lobby regulatory processes to secure their individual and collective business interests (Levy and Prakash 2003). This is done because regulatory processes affect businesses and more often than not have policy outcomes (Baumgartner 2007). The level of dependence on organized civil societies (OCS) is another feature that influences the practice of PA. EU s dependence on OCS arises from their lack of resources both financial and human, to carry out their activities. The EU commission is highly short staffed, and in need of OCS to provide technical information and act as contributory agents (Greenwood 2007). • 33. Assessment of Debates on Media Effects Assessment of Debates on Media Effects A long history lies behind question about how communication affects or influences people. Greeks developed sophisticated hypothesis about how to impress listeners through the spoken word and Aristotle was concerned with theorizing the art of speaking. Even nowadays in face to face conversations each of us mobilizes theories about how to influence our listeners. For instance, we wish to make others understand how we feel or what we think. Today, mass communication studies have developed as a discipline with a focus on television and newspapers and, to a lesser extent, cinema and radio. Thanks to mass communication technologies a programme can now be viewed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In short, if researchers had not showed some of the materials about which they were asking the respondents to comment on, they would not normally have viewed them. Therefore, as Barker and Petley (2001:4) conclude after a research focused on women s responses to four very different kinds of programme, the issue is not whether depictions of violence increase the likelihood of similar violence among potential perpetrators, but the feelings and reactions that it creates among those who are the actual or potential victims of violence . The important point is not so much violent representations can be the cause of world violence, as what people feel while they are watching some kind of violent depictions. We can also note that the media depictions of violence which the effects model typically condemns are limited to fictional productions. As Gauntlett (1998:125) says there is no obvious reason why the antisocial activities which are always in the news, and which frequently do not have such apparent consequences for their agents, should not have similar effects . Most of the studies about media effects almost always separate their discussions of entertainment from news. Turow (1999) believes that people have been taught to expect more from ... • 36. I Ching And Confucianism The I Ching, the Book of Change, the foundation of all Chinese religion and science, is an ancient Chinese divination text that provides influential text in religion, literature, and art. It provided guidance for moral decision making, based on Taoism and Confucianism. The I Ching can be read as a microcosm of the universe, explaining how to keep human behavior in unity with the alternating series of nature. Chinese tradition was divided into Confucianism, the exoteric, and Taoism, the esoteric, but both see the world and God as a whole, the cosmos. Although different, both religions allowed their followers to find God in all things, Confucianism through the natural order, and Taoism through the Tao. Both of these religions encouraged knowledge beyond the physical world and beyond that which can be known with the senses. Confucianism puts emphasis on relationships and social harmony, keeping the core humanistic, more focused on problems of ethics and society. It revolves around the pursuit of unity of the self and the Principle of Heaven, the cosmos, which overrule human efforts. Confucianism is often called rujiao, meaning the teaching of the ru, which is one who is conversant with the Heaven, Earth, and humans, the three domains of human knowledge. Then there is ren which is the collection of all essential human qualities. • 39. The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Introduction The Deepwater Horizon oil spill (also referred to as the BP oil spill) occurred in the Gulf of Mexico in April of 2010. The spill had detrimental physical, chemical, and biological effects throughout ecosystems in the Gulf of Mexico. The Deepwater Horizon oil spill being the largest accidental marine oil spill in the history of the United States, makes it a very important event in US history. During the event many coastal areas along the Gulf of Mexico were coated with oil, including the plants, animals, beaches, etc. This directly affected coastal ecosystems in the Gulf, and as a result, impacted many coastal economies: fishing industries, restaurants/food industries, tourism, and real estate. Many coastal species were also affected (e.g. dolphins, shorebirds, and phytoplankton). These issues that are associated with the spill, along with technology and the media, helped to support the anti BP movement. Much research is still being done, and many long term effects of the oil spill are still uncertain. This paper will analyze the causation of the oil spill, and the actions BP took to stop the leak. Controversial chemicals such as Corexit 9500 will be evaluated. Long term and short term environmental impacts of the event will be analyzed. As mentioned above, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill had social/economic impacts on Gulf States, this will also be evaluated. After the event, or post spill, BP established environmental and political remediation efforts. A few ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Pros And Cons Of Physical Castration The issue of whether sex offenders should be chemically or physically castrated has been one that has sparked much debate over the years. There are many people who believe, apart from murder or treason, that sexual abuse is one of the worst crimes that a person can commit against another. In these circumstances, many have voiced the proposition that such an offender, especially when they are repeat offenders, be punished in the harshest way allowed. Apart from the obvious jail term, the extra punishment would be either surgical or chemical castration (Beech Grubin, 2010). Castration has two ways that it can be done: surgical and chemical. Imposing harder sentences for all sex offenders meaning there are no pats on the wrist or community service chances. If you offend, you must serve a lengthy sentence. Also, once an offender is in prison, they would not be allowed an early release or any form of sentence reductions, and last but not least, make it so that it is VOLUNTARY in all states, after a medical and mental health evaluation...not mandatory. Renaissance paintings put emphasis on proportions and mathematic perspectives1. A good painting was supposed to look as real and vivid as possible. Leonardo s works are perfect examples regarding this aspect. Through his notes, one can learn that Leonardo favors painting than any other forms of art. He believes that painting is most flexible, variable, and expressive in every way, whilst sculpture is stiff, cold, and lacks many characteristics of nature; and poem tedious to understand. 3 From his written words, he pointed out that the eye is the central receptor of human and can appreciate the best.
