The Importance of George Wilson in The Great Gatsby Essay
The Importance of George Wilson in The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby is a superbly written and an intrinsically captivating novel that
deals with the decline of the American Dream and how vapid the upper class is. To illustrate and
capture the essence of these themes, Fitzgerald uses characters Gatsby, who epitomizes the actual
American Dream, and Daisy, who is based on the ideal girl. Yet, as these characters grasp the topics
Fitzgerald wants to convey, there is something inherently like missing from the story as a whole. To
fill this void, Fitzgerald utilizes minor characters as a means to move the plot along, develop
characters further, and build upon the themes present in the novel. One such ... Show more content on

The paradox here is that Tom is, in a sense, George himself as Tom s wife, Daisy, is in the process of
being taken away from him.
As seen with the aforementioned example, Wilson also plays a role that involves parallelism. His
situation parallels Tom s, as both have their wives being stolen. His situation parallels Gatsby s in both
their idealization of Myrtle and Daisy, respectively. Both of these patterns serve to emphasize the
character flaws in Tom and Gatsby and ultimately in the superficial lifestyle presented in the novel.
While all previous cases of Wilson have been employed as a means of further developing characters.
Complementing this role, Wilson also plays a noteworthy part in plot development. Following the
death of Myrtle, who Daisy, in fact, killed, Wilson learns of Myrtle s affair. However, through his own
odd logic, Wilson comes to believe that Myrtle was running out to see her lover, when in fact she was
running away from Wilson himself.
`Beat me! he heard her cry. `Throw me down and beat me you dirty little coward! A moment later she
rushed out into the dusk waving her hands and shouting; before he could move from his door the
business was over. The `death car as the newspapers called it, didn t stop; it came out of the gathering
darkness, wavered tragically for a moment and then

Similarities Between Oceania And North Korea
The Democratic People s Republic of Korea^ One of the more secretive countries in the world is
North Korea, in a lot of ways, Kim s regime is similar to that of Big Brother s. Outlawed actions or
crimes against the regime lead to either death or forced labour camps. People are constantly surveyed
by the regime and punished if they step out of line. Another similarity is that both countries are short
on supplies, while Oceania is short on things like boots and razor blades, the North Koreans are
having shortage of food, starving many. Lies, stories and manipulation both play big parts in these two
countries. Oceania edit the past by changing news articles, deleting all contradictory information and
punishing those who speak out against it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two, however are quite similar. In Russia, there are extremely harsh punishments for disobeying
the law, there are forced labour camps in Siberia for their criminals and North Korean criminals.
Political opponents are eliminated immediately, either locked up in jail, sent to a forced labour camp
or executed, which is why Putin has served for eighteen years. Like Oceania, Russia is also the biggest
country in the world, although most of it is uninhabited. Surveillance, though, is somewhat relaxed,
with one CCTV camera having to monitoring every seven hundred and twenty one people. Although
they have a declining economy, Russia are increasing their military expenditure, working with China
(PRC) to become a military powerhouse again. This is like the Oceanian glorification of

Technology In The Dystopian Novel By Gorman Beauchamp
In the reading, Technology in the Dystopian Novel by Gorman Beauchamp, the author exemplifies
through his own work and through the work of others the negativity the future of technology has on
society and mankind. Beauchamp considers numerous classic dystopian authors such as Yevgeny
Zamyatin, Aldous Huxley, and George Orwell and their works; Zamyatin s We (1924), Huxley s Brave
New World (1932), and Orwell s Nineteen Eighty Four (1949). The primary idea through the authors
work is that science or much rather technology in the futuristic literature is a uniquely modern form of
fiction whose emergence parallels, reflects, and warns against the growing potentialities of modern
technology (Beauchamp 53). The author is begging the question

The Satanic Representation Of Christianity In Dracula By...
Throughout history, vampirism has become an acclaimed topic of discussion. It has sparked
conversation regarding their demonic nature, supernatural qualities, and existence. In addition to the
opinions prevalent in popular culture, the Christian community has also developed their own stance
pertaining to these fiendish creatures. Bram Stoker s 1897 gothic horror novel, Dracula, has played a
role in influencing such religious beliefs. Stoker s integration of Christianity, specifically Catholicism,
Anglicanism, and Protestantism, has resulted in diverse perspectives. Each of these, however, possess
underlying similarities centering around the satanic representation of the vampire, Dracula. Stoker

The Effects of Genetic and Environmental Factors on Type 1...
The Effects of Genetic and Environmental Factors on Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorder, in which the pancreas does not produce insulin. It usually
begins in childhood or adolescence. In Type 1 diabetes, the body s immune system destroys beta cells
in the pancreas that produce insulin. Insulin is a hormone that converts sugar, starches, and food into
energy. Without insulin, blood glucose levels become too high, which is known as hyperglycemia. To
prevent hyperglycemia, people with Type 1 diabetes must take insulin daily to survive. Genetic and
environmental factors affect the onset of Type 1 diabetes. [1] According to the American Diabetes
Association, a predisposition to Type 1 diabetes is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The research on the affect of viruses in triggering Type 1 diabetes is inconclusive, and some is even
contradictory. Some researchers have also found that viruses may prevent Type 1 diabetes. Scientists
at Joslin Diabetes Center add trauma as a potential trigger of Type 1 diabetes. A traumatic event, such
as a body trauma or a car crash, increases the body s insulin requirement and strains the pancreas. [5]
Dr. James H. Warram at the Joslin Diabetes Center concluded that the trauma does not cause diabetes,
but it can trigger the onset of the disease.
Another possible environmental cause of Type 1 diabetes is early diet. Breastfeeding for at least three
months has shown to decrease the risk of Type 1 diabetes, and a diet including cow s milk before the
age of one year old may increase the risk of diabetes. The American Diabetes Association reports that
the onset of Type 1 diabetes occurs more often in winter than in summer. It is also more prevalent in
cold climates. This leads researchers to conclude that cold weather may be a possible trigger of Type 1
diabetes, as well. [6] Dr. Andrew Weil (2014) explains that in addition, Weather has an impact on
eating and exercise habits, which can in turn influence how well you re able to control your blood
sugar. (drweil.com, 2014) The phenotype for Type 1 diabetes includes the presence of autoantibodies

Through the tunnel is a story about a young boy, Jerry who visits the beach with his mother and soon
he is determined to pass through an underwater tunnel and prove himself capable of performing the
task. Despite the fact that the other people around him speak a foreign language, Jerry does not want
to lose his pride.
As described, the story takes place on what is considered to be a safe beach (182) and at the floor of
the beach is a wild bay, (182) high up among red brown rocks (182). The beach adds a warm feeling to
the story but the bay complements a darker mood and atmosphere, making the location dangerous.
The current time period seems to be more modern and portrays how people can easily travel from one
place to another without agonizing about other customs and languages, as Jerry is in a foreign country.
The story embarks as Jerry and his mother visit the beach, but Jerry s mother feels that he his grown
up enough to handle himself. She asks him, Would you like to go somewhere else? (182). After
hesitation Jerry replies, I d like to have a look at those rocks down there (182). This shows that Jerry is
growing older and wants to be like the older boys, who await him down at the bay. As the boys
welcome Jerry to the beach, even though they can t communicate; Jerry his happy to be with them and
learns about the tunnel and how they were going through it. As the story advances Jerry becomes less
and less afraid of the sea and starts to train by dipping in the

Gender Stereotypes In Macbeth
Gender stereotypes are bound by the societal norms of what it means to be a man and a woman. As a
playwright ahead of his time, Shakespeare exhibits a feminist perspective in Macbeth by scrutinizing
gender roles and the parts they play in society. In Shakespeare s eleventh century tragedy Macbeth,
after Macbeth receives a life altering prophecy by the Weird Sisters, Lady Macbeth successfully
achieves her goal of becoming the Queen of Scotland by manipulating her one recourse to greatness,
her husband Macbeth. This experience is one that alters Macbeth and Lady Macbeth s gender roles
and, consequently, leads to their demise. Through the fall of its two central characters, Macbeth
illustrates deleterious gender stereotypes such as the traditional ideas of masculinity and femininity
that persist in society today.
In the beginning of Macbeth, Macbeth carries far more feminine characteristics than Lady Macbeth
herself, contradicting the traditional gender stereotypes of eleventh century Scotland. Following the
Weird Sisters prophecy that Macbeth will one day sit upon the throne, Macbeth strifes with his task of
killing King Duncan. This frightens Macbeth as in an early soliloquy, he proclaims, let not light see
my black and deep desires. / The eye wink at the hand; yet let that be (1.4.58 60). Though Macbeth is
aware of what he must do, he is hesitant to commit King Duncan s murder, as he was once a steadfast
combat warrior for King Duncan. A wounded captain reports to King Duncan that Macbeth unseamed
[Macdonwald] from the nave to th chops, / And fix d his head upon our battlements[,] Duncan
exclaims, O valiant cousin, worthy gentleman! (1.2.24 26). This confirms that Macbeth would go as
far as brutally murdering another individual, specifically Macdonwald, the leader of the Norwegian
forces in battle, to pledge his loyalty to Scotland. when pondering whether or not to murder Duncan,
Macbeth reassesses, I am his kinsman and his subject, / Strong both against the deed; then, as his host,
/ Who should against his murderer shut the door, / Not bear the knife myself (1.7.14 16). By hesitating
to kill King Duncan, Macbeth indicates weakness in his ability to murder; far from his actions on the
battlefield,

The Freedom Of The Will
Freedom is the ability to act, think, react, and behave without having a restrain or impediment to do
this. Human beings are beyond lucky to have this ability and use it in a rational and conscious way.
However, many doubts, questions, and concerns arise from this ability. How do humans get the
freedom of the will? Are they using it for its intended and designed purpose? Philosophers have
wondered and try to come up with an answer to all these questions. They have provided the two
opposite points of view in regards the freedom of the will. George Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel and
Pelagius were two philosophers that had an extensive debate over the freedom of the will. Hegel in his
Lectures on the Philosophy of History presented that free will is completely based on a divine
providence. In the other hand, Pelagius, founder of Pelagianism, explained an opposite view about
what Hegel thinks in regards to free will.
Hegel contributed in different fields including history, society, and the state. As the Internet
Encyclopedia of Philosophy stated, Hegel boldly claimed that his own system of philosophy
represented a historical culmination of all previous philosophical thought .
Hegel, in his Lectures on the Philosophy of History, displayed his position and ideology in regards
free will. He was a firm believer of fatalism and providence. Hegel s ideology stated that a divine and
supreme entity, God, created the universe. This entity, called God, had an objective
that needed to be

A Summary Of The Most Powerful Women In Advertising
The article The Most Powerful Women in Advertising highlights the introduction of women in
advertising. Women make up a small percentage of advertising managers; however, they don t match
their male peers in the managerial ranks. Based on table one, the number of women as advertising and
promotions managers has increased steadily. From 1983 2015, women in this occupation rose from
21.8% 56.5%. The most obvious answer for the increase is that with technology rapidly expanding,
women as a target market have increased. Another assumption for this increase is the fact that women
account for a high percentage of shoppers in households and women are better at speaking to each
other. Even in race and ethnicity, the percentages have increased. The conclusion that I have drawn
from table one is there is a demand for women, African Americans, Asians and Hispanics as

Women s Athletic Teams For Women
Over 400 Division I men s athletic teams have been disbanded from existence since the inception of
Title IX. Title IX, implemented in 1972, is a comprehensive federal law that prohibits discrimination
on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity. (Keating) Title IX has
achieved great success with women s sports since the inception and the number of females in sports is
six times greater since the inception of Title IX (diversity.siu.edu). Although it has had great strides
with women, it is disadvantaging men, especially in athletics. Title IX requires that colleges give the
same amount of scholarships to women as they do men. On paper, this seems to be a great idea, but
the consequences were never taken into consideration and caused tremendous problems. In order to
give the same amount of scholarships to men and women and be compliant with Title IX, men s
athletic teams have been cut in the process. Men losing the opportunity to receive scholarships for
their respective sport at a college of their choice and sports teams getting cut is an issue that needs to
be solved. Men s sports teams cannot keep on being cut, for there are ways in which Title IX must be
enhanced to benefit everyone. The problems of men s athletic teams being cut can be solved by
reducing outrageous spending, add women s programs, and give more control to colleges. Before Title
IX was created, fewer than 32,000 women took part in college athletics while over 170,000 men

Shattering the Glass House of Mirth Essay
Shattering the Glass House
where ignorance is bliss, / Tis folly to be wise. Thomas Gray
The title of Edith Wharton s novel The House of Mirth waxes poetic irony in the case of the old
money society of turn of the century New York. The individual as part of the collective of society
which seeks to oppress individuality is representative of the house in the novel s title. To remain
ignorant and play by the rules, therein lies the mirth. Clearly, the victimization of the story s heroine,
Lily Bart, by the elite social set she associates herself with illustrates Wharton s disdain for the rigidity
of this society against the individual. Lily is, at first, an example of the collective society she is a

Wharton s representation of the power of the social class of turn of the century New York is expressed
through the struggle between the individual and the collective force of society. The rules of society
define each individual s place, and it is the group that reflects shared beliefs and dictates behavior.
This dichotomy is multi layered, reaching all the way down to the deep internal struggle of the
individual human being. Lily s struggle with her individuality and the need to play by the rules causes
her to commit social blunders and become an innocent victim of society s harsh cruelty.
At the beginning of the novel, Lily is aware of and acts according to the rules which subscribe to the
Manichean principle: One must consistently act in one way or the other there is no in between. There
is no distance between the internal and the external for Lily at this point, which is the root of her
innocence, but she is vaguely aware that something is happening to her. She longs for escape from
routine (19) but is still conscious of the fact that escape does not come without a price. Lily is never
able to do a natural thing without having to screen it behind a structure of artifice (19). She is innocent
in intent, and because of this she indulges herself with her little escapes from time to time without
much thought to the consequences until after the fact. Her attempts to ignore or mask her social
indiscretions

How Did John Locke Influence The American Revolution

John Locke John Locke is a well known enlightenment philosopher. He is known for writing Two
Treatises of Civil Government and Thomas Jefferson is known for using his ideas in the Declaration
of Independence. His Treatises heavily influenced the United States and numerous other republics (A
republic is a form of government in which power is held by the people and their elected
representatives instead of a monarch) to form. The United States of America and its allies (who are
mostly republics) are the strongest countries on Earth and all of them are heavily influenced by his
ideas. The Enlightenment was a time during the 18th century that stressed the belief that science and
logic give people more knowledge and understanding than tradition and religion. [2] In essence it was

rhythm. In simple word pacemaker send impulse to heart chamber when weak signal of impulse
generated by the heart SA node. My project was based on Rate Responsive pacing systems. During the
day body need different amount of oxygen in the body depending on the state of sleeping, exercise,
sitting, standing and running. When our heart is unable to pump at require rate a rate responsive
pacemaker is comes into action. A rate responsive pacemaker works on principle of special sensors to
recognize changes in how much blood and oxygen are needed by the body during the day. Based on
this information, the heart rate is adjusted to meet the body s changing needs for blood flow.
Figure 1 shows basic block diagram of Temperature sensor based rate responsive pacemaker. The first
block defines the temperature sensor which converts the physiological variable in to an electrical
signal. Which then taken in to account and work as input to analog to digital converter that convert

Raising The Minimum Wage Is A Bad Idea
In announcing his wrongheaded proposal to increase the minimum wage to $9 an hour, President
Obama spoke in lofty terms: In the wealthiest nation on Earth, he said in his State of the Union
address last month, no one who works full time should have to live in poverty.
If the debate proceeds as it has many times in the past, then most Democrats will embrace the
president s message and back the proposal, while most Republicans will oppose it, on the grounds that
higher labor costs will lead to higher unemployment.
But we shouldn t rely on political opinions in this debate. Facts clearly demonstrate that raising the
minimum wage is a bad idea.
The case against raising the minimum wage is straightforward: A higher wage makes it more
expensive for firms to hire workers. How big an effect does this have on the job market? Economists
debate this. But no one argues that increasing the minimum wage increases the number of unemployed
workers who find jobs. In the end, the trade off is clear. People who keep their jobs get more money;
those who lose their jobs, or fail to get new ones, suffer.
In announcing his proposal to increase the minimum wage, the president argued that doing so would
alleviate poverty. The president is certainly correct to turn his attention to the poor, many of whom
have been suffering for years in a tough economy. And it is clearly desirable for households that
engage in full time work not to live in poverty. But increasing the minimum wage would

Factors Affecting Accuracy of Analysis of Biomechanical...
Measurement of biochemical markers represents an important aid to clinicians in the early diagnosis
and prognosis of neurological disease. However, there are many factors, such as pre analytical,
analytical and post analytical features, that can contribute to lead to an accurate test result in the
chemistry laboratory. Nevertheless, it is necessary to validate proposed biomarker candidates in a well
designed and high quality controlled study. It requires both suitable and sufficient clinical specimens
and highly reproducible and quantitatively accurate analytical techniques.
Particularly more than 84% of laboratory errors can be attributed to pre analytical factors that include
patient condition, specimen collection, transport, processing and analysis [15].
Also in a CSF analysis, it has been suggested that several pre analytical factors, such as CSF
collection, storage or freeze thawing cycles, can affect the content of CSF proteome, leading to
various errors of misunderstanding in the biomarker research [16, 17].
Currently these variables could be divided into two general groups, in vivo and in vitro. In vivo factors
are those biological factors that are related directly to the patient, such as a specific time of day needed
to collect the CSF or the influence of fasting. On the other hand, in vitro factors are linked to the
procedure of sample collection, storage and analysis. They include the localization of the lumbar
puncture, the volume of CSF taken, the type of

Hollywood and Nathaniel West s The Day of the Locust Essay
Hollywood and Nathaniel West s The Day of the Locust Works Cited Missing Although set in the
1930s, Nathanael West s The Day of the Locust ironically resembles contemporary Hollywood. Within
the glamorous setting of Hollywood, West s characters take on multiple roles instead of assuming
individual personalities. They put on and remove these imaginary personality masks, similar to those
in the Commedia dell Arte, to exhibit a range of emotions that only their character type would exhibit.
Consequently, West s characters are trapped in this restrictive atmosphere, especially at the end of the
novel when they become part of a collective mob. In these manners, the characters in The Day of the
Locust exhibit qualities akin to modern actors, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, Webb notes that today, only one major studio still exists in the city, as most back lots have
turned into offices that coordinate filming activities elsewhere. This small fact proves that Hollywood
has always been a concept as much as a place (xi), a symbol people reference for the movie industry,
no matter where the movies were actually produced. Hollywood cinema also produces its own realities
on the big screen. As Cecil B. De Mille. Goldfish and Samuel Goldfish claimed during the production
of the first motion picture, when real life doesn t fit a preconceived image, create another reality (xi).
Since that 1913 statement, Hollywood has fostered this type of reality making that results into an
escape for its audiences. Aside from the physical escape of traveling to the movies or Blockbuster in
order to view these films, audiences are also invested in the characters they view on screen. However,
Webb informs the public that what appears on the screen is a stylized version of real life (or a
plausible vision of imaginary worlds) that is made possible by the prolonged collaborative effort of
hundreds, working in support of a celebrated few (3). The reality of the cinema lies in producers,
directors, actors, back lots, etc. involved in its creation rather

Iroquois Creation Story Analysis
Through the use of supernatural motifs that later shape the world, David Cusick s work illustrates the
enduring struggle between good and evil, God and the Devil, heaven and hell.
A New Critical Approach toward the Iroquois Creation Story The Iroquois Confederacy, a union of
ultimately six different Native American tribes, was a proud and powerful alliance of Indians living to
the northeast of Lake Ontario near New England during the 17th century. One tribe was known as the
Haudenosaunee, or The People of the Longhouse, whose vast domain housed some villages of over
2000 people at one point a testament to their authority and wide reaching influence (Baym et al. 17).
Of great importance to the Iroquois people were their creation stories, which peacefully coexisted in
over 25 versions. One particular cosmogonic myth has been accurately re told by David Cusick, a
Tuscarora Indian, and was entitled The Iroquois Creation Story (Baym et al. 18). It was recorded in

Gore Case Analysis Essay
Gore Case Analysis Bill Gore is a primary example of a unique, yet successful, approach on
structuring his business using a lattice system. Lattice systems are organized to promote ingenuity and
performance without hierarchy of authority (Grant, 2010, p. 412). Gore s intent was to create an
environment with self managed associates pursuing personal commitments and working together to
achieve diverse innovations (p. 412). The success of W.L. Gore Associates exercising a lattice system
structure has been admirable but this system has adverse effects including confusion of how an
associate is paid for his contributions. In addition to maintaining Gore s core vision to promote

implementation of a lattice system was successful in his vision for creativity and innovation but the
structure presented a lack of clarity in regards to the amount of compensation given to employees

Explanation of Relevant Concepts, Theories and Application Derived from Course Materials Lattice
systems grant several advantages for an organization looking to prosper from diversified talent.
However, it creates complicated parameters on how an employee should be compensated when a
framework is not present for guidance. Mayhem (2012) presented Gore s acknowledgement of the
complexity when he stated it s unrealistic for people to set their own salaries (para 3). Gore s
alternative was to compensate based on annual peer reviews. Although companies should consider
peer reviews during an employee evaluation, the associates should not be in control of the
compensation of others. If a company uses this approach it can cause skewed evaluations with various
ratings due to personal differences. Vinson (1996) highlighted this point by bringing up a concern with
conflicted opinions and asking the question, who decides who is right? (para. 11). As a professional
and employee, I prefer to have a clear

Impact of Global Financial Crisis: (S P 500) Emerging Markets (Bric)
Introduction
The BRIC forms an important economic bloc in the global financial market and it is important to
understand the impact of the stock index. The Brazil Russia, India and china represents almost a
substantial percentage of the world economy and with a total population of about 40 percent. In
addition more than 20 percent of the world s gross domestic product arises from this four economic
bloc countries and it is expected to rise over in future. It is also known to be a sheer potential in the
coming years. It is also foreseen by the UN report on development and sustenance as it is expected
that china is likely to outshine the US economy by 2020 and the BRIC will be one of the G7 by 2032
according to Goldman Sach, 2017. The recent financial simmer evident indicates that these economies
were robust to changes in the economic shocks witnessed between 2000 2010. According to Goldman
Sach, 2017 the report indicates that the contribution of the BRIC to the economy the growth rate in
2007 was approximately over 40% and the growth rate extended to another economy (Aggarwal,

Negative Visualization Oliver Burkeman Summary
In Oliver Burkeman s essay, The Benefits of Negative Visualization , he discusses how Negative
Visualization is more likely to make people happier than positive visualization. Burkeman supports his
argument by describing Ottogen s experiment and how one spends more time in thinking how well
things will go instead of achieving one s goal due to one s lack of motivation.
Unlike positive visualization, Negative visualization is more likely to make someone happier as
Burkeman argues. Not only does negative visualization make one happier, but it is also some

Schools And Campuses Should Step Up Security
In today s society we see more and more cases where somebody threatens a school whether it be a
bombing or a shooting. In some cases, these situations come without warning, somebody decides to
arm themselves and go terrorize a school or campus. You have instances like the Sandy Hook
Elementary shooting where Adam Lanza shot and killed 28 people. Another instance is just recently at
Ohio State University a student ran his car into a group of people and proceeded to stab eleven others
with a knife. They do so whether they have gone off the deep end and a re psychologically unstable or
if they do it in the name of some cause that they think is just, either way they threaten the lives and
sanity of students and staff and students alike. So it poses a question onThis poses the question of
whether or notwhether schools and campuses should step up security in order toto prevent these kinds
of disasters from happening to their schools. Should they make changes to security and be safer now
rather thaen sorry later or should they leave things alone in hopes that it will be enough if a situation
where to arise?. If they decide to make changes what options do they have to make a safe
environment?.
When it comes to improving security in schools and universities, I believe that there is always
something that could be done to provide a safer environment for students of all ages to learn. Each
school would have its own things that it could change to improve security, whether it be locking

Family Unit in Human Sociological Terms
Overview The Family Unit In human sociological terms, the family is described as a group of people
that have affinity traditionally, organized through husband, wife, and children and/or extended
relatives. This unit, called the nuclear family, was a historical organization that served economic and
cultural needs, educated children in societal behaviors, and offered stability. In the modern age,
however, families of all kinds exist. There may be one two, three or more parents involved in the child
s overall plan; those parents may be traditional, grandparents or care givers, same sex couples, or
multiple divorces, etc. We live in a diverse world, not just in the United States, but globally. Preparing
children for a leadership role in this world also requires that we take into account individual micro and
macro differences, celebrate those differences, and view the family as assisting in any way possible
the positive relationship of the community, the schools, and other resources to help those children
actualize (Hareven, 1991; Berman, 2010).
Carl Whitaker and Theory Carl Whitaker was one of the founding generation of family therapists. He
died in 1995, but his ideas, theories, and methods surrounding family therapy were seminal in
changing the focus from the individual to the family unit as a whole in therapy. His ideas were first
presented in a 1978 book, co written with Augustus Napier, called The Family Crucible. In this book,
Whitaker noted that overuse of theory can

Home Ownership Of The Housing Bubble Crisis
A home is the biggest purchase and investment one can make in their lifetime. For decades, home
ownership has been silver plated with the aura of the American Dream. However, the lending crisis
and meltdown of 2008 in real estate prices across the nation took away the luster off that American
Dream for many. Now however, after reflecting from past mistakes, homeownerswho lost their homes
in the housing bubble crisis realize it takes a lot to obtain the American dream and are eager to reenter
into the home market as buyers. These boomerang buyers might just benefit withthe option of rent to
own amongst other options. Advantages to Boomerang Home Buyers Although many homeowners
were affected and lost almost everything, there s hope for them to move forward with the rent to own
option. This lets the buyer commit to an agreement with a willing seller to lease the property until they
can buy it. The rent to own option is appealing for boomerang buyers with many different
backgrounds. The option suits people who do not have a strong credit rating and therefore not
qualified to get a mortgage from their bank. Since qualification guidelines have become more
stringent, this helps out buyers who would have a hard time qualifying because individual sellers who
opt to entertain the rent to buy option would not be as demanding or strict as compared to lending
institutions.Rent to own appeals to those who do not have enough money for a down payment since it
lets them buy time to

Luego esto se remonta a un comienzo después de la segunda guerra mundial hacia 1623 que fue ahí

The Sidewalk Racer Analysis
Views of Being Alone
The two poems and the passage I read are alike. The characters in the poems The Sidewalk Racer ,
When I Read , and the character in a passage from Z for Zachariah have different point of views.
There are similarities and differences in the way the characters view being alone.
First, in the poem, The Sidewalk Racer by Lillian Morrison, the author addresses the meaning of being
alone by writing about someone who is riding a skateboard and likes being alone. In the poem the
speaker says, I m the one and only single engine human automobile. This has meaning. If the rider
was riding with someone, they wouldn t be the one and only. Because of this, I think this person
enjoys being alone. Because the author wrote in a positive tone, I think the character likes it. This
person is obviously excited about what she does. This person views themselves as superior when they
re alone I suppose.
Second, in the poem, When I Read by Lillian Morrison, the author addresses the meaning of being
alone by writing about someone who runs but reads books. They like to be alone in my opinion. In the
poem, the speaker says But when I read then I m a diver! . This person is ... Show more content on

Television s Effect On Children
Television a Tool for Education or a Harmful Obstacle
Television is it a tool for education or a distraction that is an obstacle? Television is often blamed for
having a harmful effect on children. Is this true or is it a hoax, there has been repeated studies and
theory s on the effects of TV on children and adults.
Television was designed for entertainment and to relax and to inform the masses. Back in the 1900s
TV was a rare item in a house hold but. According to the website Salon.com Sociologist Robert
Putnam in Bowling Alone (2000) reported that in 1950, about 10 percent of American homes had
television sets, but this has grown to more than 99 percent over the 50 years. Nearly every home in the
United States has a TV set inside their home. Putnam also reported that the number of TVs in the
average U.S. household had grown to 2.25 sets, with 66 percent of households having three or more
sets; the TV set is turned on in the average U.S. home for seven hours a day; two thirds of Americans
regularly watch TV during dinner; and about 40 percent of Americans leisure time is spent on
television. Time that could be spent on more productive activities, especially when it applies to small
children.
TV can harm the child however it has been used as an educational tool as well. The creation of one of
the first educational programs was Sesame Street, with Elmo and his friends. This program entertained
children and was equally educational giving important lessons about math,

U.s. Nsa Program On Surveillance
Over the last several years, cyber attacks have been continually rising. This is in response to emerging
threats from rogue nations and terrorist groups. They are increasing their attacks on government,
military and civilian installations. According to James Clapper (the Director of National Intelligence)
these threats have become so severe. It is surpassing terrorism as the greatest challenge facing the
nation. In response, the National Security Agency (NSA) began conducting surveillance on those who
are involved in these activities and others which are threat to US national security interests. This
program became so broad; it started continually collecting phone records and emails on ordinary
Americans. This angered many, who felt that the US was acting in a way that circumvented
established legal guidelines and procedures. To fully understand what is taking place requires focusing
on the event, the government s response and the ways it did / did not meet our national security goals.
Together, these different elements will illustrate what occurred and the lasting impacts on everyone.
(Greenwald 2014) The NSA program on surveillance began in 2001. This is when Congress
authorized government officials to listen in on the phone calls and emails of those individuals
suspected of engaging in terrorist activities (via the USA Patriot Act). It is designed to ensure that the

The Just Exercise of Political Power
The just exercise of political power is conceived of as resting upon constitutional principles.
Constitutional principles are a position from which we operate justly. However, what constitutes as
just? Throughout history political power derived from many historical foundations that were deemed
just based on the society that upheld those principles. This notion is evident throughout the
development of constitutional doctrines in Greek democracy, Aristotle s political theory, Roman
Republicanism, and English Constitutionalism.
Due to society, cultural diversity troubles the mode of governess. This is because at times there are

What Aristotle called Polity was based on political power and the best practical government. This
notion differed from Ancient Greek democracy.
During the 4th Century B.C, Aristotle rose as a critic of direct democracy based on two grounds: are
all individuals qualified to govern? Should we select a few individuals who are fit for leadership?
Bernard Crick writes, while democracy was for him a necessary condition for good government, it
was far from a sufficient condition (Crick 1). Aristotle had a negative outlook on human nature. This
led to his belief on how a government system should rule and the dismissal of a direct democracy.
Similarly to Ancients, Aristotle believed that a direct democracy would only crumble. For this reason,
he introduced Checks and balances . Checks and balances gave limited power to each branch of power
and to the people. He identified his a polity by representative government, balanced government, and
a mixed government. Representative government is one ruled by a leader . And yet, he questioned the
idea of placing trust in the hands of the uneducated, incompetent. More importantly, he believed that
in order to be a leader, one must meet the five characteristics to be considered a leader . The
characteristics required: intelligence, knowledge, experience, wisdom, and virtue. It was especially

The current class has been very informative on nursing theories and it is the dream of every aspiring

not only to offer physical care but to offer mental, spiritual and emotional support to patients as well.
Patients with complex and frequently diverse needs must be given the full attention of the nurse based
on their needs. Consistent research indicated the significant benefits which ensue when nurses offer
compassionate care; however this is not always the case, especially among nurses which are involved

Compassion fatigue is a huge reality and according to Potter et al. (2013), long term effects of
compassion fatigue have negative impact on the health, well being and performance of nurses
involved. Jean Watson s theory of caring said, true healing cannot be realized without caring therefore,
compassion fatigue is a problem that does not only affect nurses, but goes a notch higher by also
affecting the quality of care offered by compassion fatigue victims. Boyle (2011) observed that there is
need for nurses to be compassionate and caring especially when providing care to patients, families or
relatives. Slatten et al. (2011) noted that compassion fatigue is an occupational hazard among nurses
involved (that is, professionals involved in helping others). Compassion fatigue is therefore, a
significant problem affecting professional practice in nursing because Rosa (2014) stated that, being a

committed and immersed in order to gain a sense of purpose. However, compassion fatigue stands as a

Texas Instruments in South Korea
Texas Instruments in South Korea Understanding a target market s needs and desires can assist
companies with tailoring their offerings in the name of profit. Texas Instruments (TI) had been
business since 1930. During this time they have reinvented their offerings to remain a viable business
entity throughout the decades. Their ability to stay ahead of the change curve has translated into a
current market cap value of approximately $47 billion ( Yahoo finance, 2014). Whether it is
calculators, semiconductors, software or education materials TI has been able to continually
transformed itself using a strategy predicated on risk taking and innovation ( Texas instruments, 2014).
It is this culture of risk taking that has TI ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could lead to missed opportunities. The formal institutions are represented by regulations, rules
or bylaws that can be readily researched. Within a new country TI must account for the South Korean
government and the educational branch. Government rules and requirements for operating within the
country need to be understood prior to dealing with local businesses. Failure to understand these
barriers to entry can limit a firm s ability to conduct business within the desired country of operations.
The informal institutions can be more difficult to research. To account for this TI can identify and hire
experts to assist with acquiring the informal knowledge. Informal institutions represent the norms,
cultures and ethics when dealing with societies. Without a solid understanding of cultural norms or
expectations, TI s business proposition can offend. A main informal challenge for TI is the regionalism
that exists. South Korea can be dissected into two distinct regions the Kyongsang Province (southeast)
and Cholla Province (southwest). Both regions have distinct differences ( Culture of south, 2014).
Another informal consideration surrounds gender status. Although South Korea s constitution
stipulates men and women as equals the ideology practiced is one of male superiority ( Culture of
south, 2014). This

How Did Yugoslavia Achieve Independence From The Soviet...
Yugoslavia was the only Eastern European country which manages to not fall under the Soviet
occupation. The main reasons of this fact are that Yugoslavia was not liberated by the Red Army, but
from the Yugoslav partisans. This army was led by communists. In 1945 the leader of the Communist
Resistance, Josip Broz Tito, took the control of the country. Tito was not a soviet trained Stalinist;
instead he was an independent national leader who did not accept to do as the Moscow wish. Tito was
one of the most significant causes why Yugoslavia achieved to maintain her independence from the
Soviet Union. Firstly, the relations between Moscow and Belgrade seemed good. Yugoslavia also
joined the first Cominform in 1947, which it was held in Belgrade. ... Show more content on

Albanian and Soviet relations remained warm during the last years of Stalin s life mainly because of
the Albanian non economic stability. Albania was depending on Soviet European countries, as all its
foreign trade was conducted in those countries. Likewise, the Soviet Union underwrote shortfalls in
Albania s balance of payments with long term grants.in the early s 50s the health care system and the
education in Albania get improved dramatically. Those were some advantages for the Albanian
society. Within the leaderfship of the Communist Party of Albania tensions arose between pro and anti
Yugoslav personalities. Koci Xoxe was the pro Yugoslav person while the Xhoxha was anti Yugoslav.
Xoxe main purpose was to overthrow Hoxha and to cooperate with Yugoslavia. In 1948 after the
Soviet Yugoslav split, Albania achieves to break from the Yugoslav occupation and became the first
state to side with the Cominform. From that moment and on relations between Albania and Soviet
Union remain close till the death of Stalin in 1953. After the death of Stalin, things changed in the
relations between Albania and Soviet Union. Nikita Khrushchev believed that the high cost of aid to
support Albania was not worth it. From 1955 to 1961 period the Soviet Albanian split began, as a
result of the soviet leader Nikita. So, Hoxha eventually broke away from the USSR and formed a
partnership wth

I M Not Knowledgeable About The Inner Workings Of Car...
I m not knowledgeable about the inner workings of car dealerships. I only know of them through my
experience as a consumer, but it seems obvious to me that the way to survive this recession is to
maintain a customer base. The best way I know of doing that is through customer service, which
unfortunately is given much lip service, but not much actual practice in my experience. My last car
purchase was from a company that invited new car buyers to a catered supper within three months
after the purchase. It seemed like an expensive perk to offer customers, but it was easy to see how it
improved customer relations. During the program, the service manager gave several tips about
maintaining the new cars, maintenance schedules and several ... Show more content on

The woman in the showroom smirked, Come back and ask for me when you are serious, she told me. I
didn t, of course, because I found her comment to be totally insulting. Instead I went to another dealer
within a month and purchased a car. All people with financial stability don t dress in business suits and
all women don t need a man to purchase a car even if they are married. These tips would improve a car
dealership s reputation whether or not there is a recession, but during hard times it s even more
important to maintain good customer relations.
Dents are sometimes unavoidable since they might occur by fault of yours. Therefore, keeping your
car dent free and looking as good as a new becomes difficult because in case of a major dent, we try to
avoid expensive car dent repair since it takes a lot of money to get even the simplest of the car dent
repair job done. Even the most careful drivers cannot avoid dents in their cars because it may occur
due to someone else s fault. At the same time, you have to do it because leaving dents on the car
makes it very unattractive and unimpressionable. Major car dent repair could cost a prohibitive
amount of money. Hence, you might like to save this expenditure by carrying out car dent repair
yourself. Parameters The most important parameters that you need to know for carrying out any car
dent repair are the dent size and the degree of severity of the dent. Small car dent repair generally
involves simple processes

Realist Views On Climate Change
Rough Draft Ideas
Through the last decades, climate change has sparked up a controversial issue not only in the US but
around the world. We have been told time and time again, what we, as people, are currently doing to
our planet has been demonstrated scientifically to be ruining our planet. However, beyond the facts,
and past the statistics, there s something that gives these scientific demonstrations meaning. This
happens to be the people of the world that these numbers fall behind. How do we work with and
counter these grueling numbers that diminishes the world? And more importantly, what is the
relationship between global climate change and international relations?
The human race is reaching the point where climate change is leading ... Show more content on

If we thought about climate change the same way we thought about murder there would be no issue
pertaining to this throughout the world (Bodansky, 1996). For nations allowing the irresponsible and
reckless actions towards our environment is murder. The reason why we have laws against murder is
because we are not allowing someone else the right to life, freedom and pursuit of happiness (Habib,
2011). We are not giving our own planet a right to live, and our planet was not created for our own
benefit. We are guest on this planet and we should treat our host with some respects and dignity. These
laws can come into a form of taxation, and breaking any of the treaties could result in a sanction
around the country (Bodansky, 1996). For example, nations that would normally expel detrimental
amounts of Co2 in the atmosphere would be discouraged by doing it because of the tax put in place
(Bodansky, 1996). This would hopefully revalue the ideals of the realists to look at the profit of the
health of our planet outweighs what the high profits of money can

society, choose a faction out of the five faction Abnegation (the selfless), Amity (the kind and
peaceful), Dauntless (the brave and fearless), Erudite (the intelligent), and Candor (the honest).
Sixteen year old Beatrice Prior is warned not to inform anyone about her test result not even her
family, because she is divergent. On the day of the choosing ceremony, the day all sixteen year olds
decide their future, Beatrice s thought are drowned in confusion. She can t decide which faction to
choose, since the Aptitude test didn t help her, but she finally chooses the Dauntless. To get to the
Dauntless compound the initiates have to have to jump off a roof and into an underground tunnel.
Beatrice decides to change her name to Tris after she jumps off the roof as the first initiate to jump.
The transfer initiates are given a tour of the compound, once they reach the dormitories, one of the
Dauntless leaders, Eric, tells them only ten of the initiates will become members at the end of

Nursing Theorists
A BRIEF STUDY OF NURSING THEORIES ACCORDING TO FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE,
JEAN WATSON AND MADELEINE LEININGER TOLULOPE ADEDIWURA MINOT STATE
UNIVERSITY ABSTRACT Nursing as a profession is based on concrete (scientific, philosophical,
behavioral, social, and humanities among others), concepts and theories by past and current nursing
theorists. These theorists have helped shape the profession from 19th century till date. New theories
are emerging due to advance in health care, as off shoot of previous theories and also as addition to
suit present day application. This paper shall look at the works (theories) of Florence Nightingale;
Environmental theory, Jean Watson; Human caring theory, and Madeleine Leininger; Culture care

(2011), Jean Watson s theoretical framework lies in carative factors, transpersonal caring relationship,
and caring moment. This implies basically that the core of nursing is in caring and other qualities of
nursing as a profession builds on it. Her assumptions of caring affirms that in all we do to assist a
client, caring is the most important. She claimed that without caring, curing cannot effectively occur.
Gonzalo (2011), refers to caring as being more healthogenic than curing because it integrates
biophysical knowledge with knowledge of human behavior to generate or promote health and to
provide ministrations to those who are ill. He also concluded in his review of Jean Watson s work that
the science of caring is complementary to the science of curing . MSU s department of nursing
associates with Jean Watson s human caring theory as pointed out in the holistic health aspect of its
theoretical constructs. This section strongly reflect the ideas of Jean Watson. Pros of the theory * It
presents distinct difference between nursing and other health care professions * It is logical and easy
to apply to various practice situations * It presents nurses with a good view at nursing Cons of the
theory * Caring alone isn t enough as the health care system now incorporates technology in client s
care. Therefore, with the caring model and its processes, nurses need to find a blend where technology
has its place. Madeleine Leininger s Culture Care

Geraldine Brooks s Reading The Secret Chord A Novel
The Secret Chord Reading The Secret Chord A Novel by Geraldine Brooks was like reading about the
biblical character King David for the first time. Author Ms. Brooks brought King David s character to
life. As I read, I hardly realized that the novel is over five hundred pages. Brooks carefully built upon
the biblical story of David. What I appreciate is that Brooks did not omit information rather she
expanded on the facts colorfully and creatively. Some of the expansion is based on theory. However,
the majority of the story aligns with biblical and historical chronology. For example, the story expands
on David s childhood relationship with his paternal and maternal caregivers.
The story interestingly describes King David as a talented musician among his many talents. King
David s musical ability had the power to soothe the savage, unite his offspring, and bring healing and
unity to two split nations. David s instrument of choice was a harp, that was a part of his existence.
Geraldine enlightens us to how beautifully David played the harp; she says if the harp where a loom
the notes he drew from it a bright thread forming a splendid pattern . . . He played this way often, even
interrupting meetings with his generals . . . He said that music its order and precision helped him find
the patterns in things the way through the confusion of events and opinions to the direction to order,
and beyond inspiration (Brooks 40).The text even says you could read his mind through his

Examples Of Dysfunctional Family In Anna Karenina
A dysfunctional family is a family in which conflict, misbehaviour, and often child neglect or abuse on
the part of individual parents occur continually and regularly, leading other members to accommodate
such actions. Dysfunctional families in literature are something we find hard to resit for numerous
reasons. One reason being that reading about negative family dynamics is often more interesting and
make a novel harder to put down than reading about families that go on to lead perfectly normal and
happy lives. This being something that Leo Tolstoy touched upon when he opened Anna Karenina
with All happy families are like one another; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way. Reading
these types of novels provides us with a sense of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Gone Girl Nick makes the decision that he and his wife should move back to his hometown of
North Carthgate, Missouri when he finds out that his mother is dying. He does this even though he has
a love/hate relationship with the place. There were happy times in the place Nick grew up, but the bad
times far outweighed the good. According to Margo (Nicks sister) he had always been the favourite
child, he was the one who was planned, he was the firstborn and not the surprise twin who had
sneaked into this world by clamping onto (Nicks) ankle, an unwanted stranger. It is clear to see that
Nick was a mama s boy, this being something that Amy makes clear in her diary entry after the death
of Nick s mother. His mother had always mothered him. He is a mama s boy whose mama is dead.
While Nick was close with his mother his relationship with his father wasn t the best in that it
appeared to have seriously affected and damaged him. His fathers unpredictable behaviour, anger
issues and pressure of his expectations of Nick turned him into a chronic people pleaser. While in the
novel Nick is no longer a child, his childhood, in particular his father s role in it still has the capacity
to majorly mess up his life. In adulthood Nick has a fear of becoming his father so while Amy makes a
lot of threats about what would happen if Nick ever left her, he ultimately stays, especially

  • 3. The Importance of George Wilson in The Great Gatsby Essay The Importance of George Wilson in The Great Gatsby F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby is a superbly written and an intrinsically captivating novel that deals with the decline of the American Dream and how vapid the upper class is. To illustrate and capture the essence of these themes, Fitzgerald uses characters Gatsby, who epitomizes the actual American Dream, and Daisy, who is based on the ideal girl. Yet, as these characters grasp the topics Fitzgerald wants to convey, there is something inherently like missing from the story as a whole. To fill this void, Fitzgerald utilizes minor characters as a means to move the plot along, develop characters further, and build upon the themes present in the novel. One such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The paradox here is that Tom is, in a sense, George himself as Tom s wife, Daisy, is in the process of being taken away from him. As seen with the aforementioned example, Wilson also plays a role that involves parallelism. His situation parallels Tom s, as both have their wives being stolen. His situation parallels Gatsby s in both their idealization of Myrtle and Daisy, respectively. Both of these patterns serve to emphasize the character flaws in Tom and Gatsby and ultimately in the superficial lifestyle presented in the novel. While all previous cases of Wilson have been employed as a means of further developing characters. Complementing this role, Wilson also plays a noteworthy part in plot development. Following the death of Myrtle, who Daisy, in fact, killed, Wilson learns of Myrtle s affair. However, through his own odd logic, Wilson comes to believe that Myrtle was running out to see her lover, when in fact she was running away from Wilson himself. `Beat me! he heard her cry. `Throw me down and beat me you dirty little coward! A moment later she rushed out into the dusk waving her hands and shouting; before he could move from his door the business was over. The `death car as the newspapers called it, didn t stop; it came out of the gathering darkness, wavered tragically for a moment and then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Similarities Between Oceania And North Korea The Democratic People s Republic of Korea^ One of the more secretive countries in the world is North Korea, in a lot of ways, Kim s regime is similar to that of Big Brother s. Outlawed actions or crimes against the regime lead to either death or forced labour camps. People are constantly surveyed by the regime and punished if they step out of line. Another similarity is that both countries are short on supplies, while Oceania is short on things like boots and razor blades, the North Koreans are having shortage of food, starving many. Lies, stories and manipulation both play big parts in these two countries. Political opponents are eliminated immediately, either locked up in jail, sent to a forced labour camp or executed, which is why Putin has served for eighteen years. Like Oceania, Russia is also the biggest country in the world, although most of it is uninhabited. Surveillance, though, is somewhat relaxed, with one CCTV camera having to monitoring every seven hundred and twenty one people. The Effects of Genetic and Environmental Factors on Type 1 Diabetes Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorder, in which the pancreas does not produce insulin. It usually begins in childhood or adolescence. In Type 1 diabetes, the body s immune system destroys beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. Insulin is a hormone that converts sugar, starches, and food into energy. Without insulin, blood glucose levels become too high, which is known as hyperglycemia. To prevent hyperglycemia, people with Type 1 diabetes must take insulin daily to survive. Genetic and environmental factors affect the onset of Type 1 diabetes. The research on the affect of viruses in triggering Type 1 diabetes is inconclusive, and some is even contradictory. Some researchers have also found that viruses may prevent Type 1 diabetes. Scientists at Joslin Diabetes Center add trauma as a potential trigger of Type 1 diabetes. A traumatic event, such as a body trauma or a car crash, increases the body s insulin requirement and strains the pancreas. [5] Dr. James H. Warram at the Joslin Diabetes Center concluded that the trauma does not cause diabetes, but it can trigger the onset of the disease. Another possible environmental cause of Type 1 diabetes is early diet. Breastfeeding for at least three months has shown to decrease the risk of Type 1 diabetes, and a diet including cow s milk before the age of one year old may increase the risk of diabetes. The American Diabetes Association reports that the onset of Type 1 diabetes occurs more often in winter than in summer. It is also more prevalent in cold climates. This leads researchers to conclude that cold weather may be a possible trigger of Type 1 diabetes, as well. [6] Dr. Andrew Weil (2014) explains that in addition, Weather has an impact on eating and exercise habits, which can in turn influence how well you re able to control your blood sugar. • 9. Striving to Reach Your Goal in Doris Lessing’s Through the... Through the tunnel is a story about a young boy, Jerry who visits the beach with his mother and soon he is determined to pass through an underwater tunnel and prove himself capable of performing the task. Despite the fact that the other people around him speak a foreign language, Jerry does not want to lose his pride. As described, the story takes place on what is considered to be a safe beach (182) and at the floor of the beach is a wild bay, (182) high up among red brown rocks (182). The beach adds a warm feeling to the story but the bay complements a darker mood and atmosphere, making the location dangerous. The current time period seems to be more modern and portrays how people can easily travel from one place to another without agonizing about other customs and languages, as Jerry is in a foreign country. The story embarks as Jerry and his mother visit the beach, but Jerry s mother feels that he his grown up enough to handle himself. She asks him, Would you like to go somewhere else? (182). After hesitation Jerry replies, I d like to have a look at those rocks down there (182). This shows that Jerry is growing older and wants to be like the older boys, who await him down at the bay. As the boys welcome Jerry to the beach, even though they can t communicate; Jerry his happy to be with them and learns about the tunnel and how they were going through it. As the story advances Jerry becomes less and less afraid of the sea and starts to train by dipping in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Gender Stereotypes In Macbeth Gender stereotypes are bound by the societal norms of what it means to be a man and a woman. As a playwright ahead of his time, Shakespeare exhibits a feminist perspective in Macbeth by scrutinizing gender roles and the parts they play in society. In Shakespeare s eleventh century tragedy Macbeth, after Macbeth receives a life altering prophecy by the Weird Sisters, Lady Macbeth successfully achieves her goal of becoming the Queen of Scotland by manipulating her one recourse to greatness, her husband Macbeth. This experience is one that alters Macbeth and Lady Macbeth s gender roles and, consequently, leads to their demise. Through the fall of its two central characters, Macbeth illustrates deleterious gender stereotypes such as the traditional ideas of masculinity and femininity that persist in society today. In the beginning of Macbeth, Macbeth carries far more feminine characteristics than Lady Macbeth herself, contradicting the traditional gender stereotypes of eleventh century Scotland. Following the Weird Sisters prophecy that Macbeth will one day sit upon the throne, Macbeth strifes with his task of killing King Duncan. This frightens Macbeth as in an early soliloquy, he proclaims, let not light see my black and deep desires. / The eye wink at the hand; yet let that be (1.4.58 60). Though Macbeth is aware of what he must do, he is hesitant to commit King Duncan s murder, as he was once a steadfast combat warrior for King Duncan. A wounded captain reports to King Duncan that Macbeth unseamed [Macdonwald] from the nave to th chops, / And fix d his head upon our battlements[,] Duncan exclaims, O valiant cousin, worthy gentleman! (1.2.24 26). This confirms that Macbeth would go as far as brutally murdering another individual, specifically Macdonwald, the leader of the Norwegian forces in battle, to pledge his loyalty to Scotland. when pondering whether or not to murder Duncan, Macbeth reassesses, I am his kinsman and his subject, / Strong both against the deed; then, as his host, / Who should against his murderer shut the door, / Not bear the knife myself (1.7.14 16). By hesitating to kill King Duncan, Macbeth indicates weakness in his ability to murder; far from his actions on the battlefield, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Freedom Of The Will Freedom is the ability to act, think, react, and behave without having a restrain or impediment to do this. Human beings are beyond lucky to have this ability and use it in a rational and conscious way. However, many doubts, questions, and concerns arise from this ability. How do humans get the freedom of the will? Are they using it for its intended and designed purpose? Philosophers have wondered and try to come up with an answer to all these questions. They have provided the two opposite points of view in regards the freedom of the will. George Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel and Pelagius were two philosophers that had an extensive debate over the freedom of the will. Hegel in his Lectures on the Philosophy of History presented that free will is completely based on a divine providence. In the other hand, Pelagius, founder of Pelagianism, explained an opposite view about what Hegel thinks in regards to free will. Hegel contributed in different fields including history, society, and the state. As the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy stated, Hegel boldly claimed that his own system of philosophy represented a historical culmination of all previous philosophical thought . Hegel, in his Lectures on the Philosophy of History, displayed his position and ideology in regards free will. He was a firm believer of fatalism and providence. Hegel s ideology stated that a divine and supreme entity, God, created the universe. This entity, called God, had an objective that needed to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Women make up a small percentage of advertising managers; however, they don t match their male peers in the managerial ranks. Based on table one, the number of women as advertising and promotions managers has increased steadily. From 1983 2015, women in this occupation rose from 21.8% 56.5%. The most obvious answer for the increase is that with technology rapidly expanding, women as a target market have increased. Another assumption for this increase is the fact that women account for a high percentage of shoppers in households and women are better at speaking to each other. Even in race and ethnicity, the percentages have increased. Title IX, implemented in 1972, is a comprehensive federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity. (Keating) Title IX has achieved great success with women s sports since the inception and the number of females in sports is six times greater since the inception of Title IX (diversity.siu.edu). Although it has had great strides with women, it is disadvantaging men, especially in athletics. Title IX requires that colleges give the same amount of scholarships to women as they do men. On paper, this seems to be a great idea, but the consequences were never taken into consideration and caused tremendous problems. In order to give the same amount of scholarships to men and women and be compliant with Title IX, men s athletic teams have been cut in the process. Men losing the opportunity to receive scholarships for their respective sport at a college of their choice and sports teams getting cut is an issue that needs to be solved. Men s sports teams cannot keep on being cut, for there are ways in which Title IX must be enhanced to benefit everyone. The problems of men s athletic teams being cut can be solved by reducing outrageous spending, add women s programs, and give more control to colleges. Before Title IX was created, fewer than 32,000 women took part in college athletics while over 170,000 men ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Shattering the Glass House of Mirth Essay Shattering the Glass House where ignorance is bliss, / Tis folly to be wise. Thomas Gray The title of Edith Wharton s novel The House of Mirth waxes poetic irony in the case of the old money society of turn of the century New York. The individual as part of the collective of society which seeks to oppress individuality is representative of the house in the novel s title. To remain ignorant and play by the rules, therein lies the mirth. Clearly, the victimization of the story s heroine, Lily Bart, by the elite social set she associates herself with illustrates Wharton s disdain for the rigidity of this society against the individual. Lily is, at first, an example of the collective society she is a product of; however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wharton s representation of the power of the social class of turn of the century New York is expressed through the struggle between the individual and the collective force of society. The rules of society define each individual s place, and it is the group that reflects shared beliefs and dictates behavior. This dichotomy is multi layered, reaching all the way down to the deep internal struggle of the individual human being. Lily s struggle with her individuality and the need to play by the rules causes her to commit social blunders and become an innocent victim of society s harsh cruelty. At the beginning of the novel, Lily is aware of and acts according to the rules which subscribe to the Manichean principle: One must consistently act in one way or the other there is no in between. There is no distance between the internal and the external for Lily at this point, which is the root of her innocence, but she is vaguely aware that something is happening to her. She longs for escape from routine (19) but is still conscious of the fact that escape does not come without a price. Lily is never able to do a natural thing without having to screen it behind a structure of artifice (19). She is innocent in intent, and because of this she indulges herself with her little escapes from time to time without much thought to the consequences until after the fact. • 17. How Did John Locke Influence The American Revolution Abhishek Sathiabalan Ms. Carmelitano World History I 1 June 2015 John Locke John Locke is a well known enlightenment philosopher. He is known for writing Two Treatises of Civil Government and Thomas Jefferson is known for using his ideas in the Declaration of Independence. His Treatises heavily influenced the United States and numerous other republics (A republic is a form of government in which power is held by the people and their elected representatives instead of a monarch) to form. The United States of America and its allies (who are mostly republics) are the strongest countries on Earth and all of them are heavily influenced by his ideas. The Enlightenment was a time during the 18th century that stressed the belief that science and logic give people more knowledge and understanding than tradition and religion. Raising The Minimum Wage Is A Bad Idea In announcing his wrongheaded proposal to increase the minimum wage to $9 an hour, President Obama spoke in lofty terms: In the wealthiest nation on Earth, he said in his State of the Union address last month, no one who works full time should have to live in poverty. If the debate proceeds as it has many times in the past, then most Democrats will embrace the president s message and back the proposal, while most Republicans will oppose it, on the grounds that higher labor costs will lead to higher unemployment. But we shouldn t rely on political opinions in this debate. Facts clearly demonstrate that raising the minimum wage is a bad idea. The case against raising the minimum wage is straightforward: A higher wage makes it more expensive for firms to hire workers. How big an effect does this have on the job market? Economists debate this. But no one argues that increasing the minimum wage increases the number of unemployed workers who find jobs. In the end, the trade off is clear. People who keep their jobs get more money; those who lose their jobs, or fail to get new ones, suffer. In announcing his proposal to increase the minimum wage, the president argued that doing so would alleviate poverty. The president is certainly correct to turn his attention to the poor, many of whom have been suffering for years in a tough economy. Measurement of biochemical markers represents an important aid to clinicians in the early diagnosis and prognosis of neurological disease. However, there are many factors, such as pre analytical, analytical and post analytical features, that can contribute to lead to an accurate test result in the chemistry laboratory. Nevertheless, it is necessary to validate proposed biomarker candidates in a well designed and high quality controlled study. It requires both suitable and sufficient clinical specimens and highly reproducible and quantitatively accurate analytical techniques. Particularly more than 84% of laboratory errors can be attributed to pre analytical factors that include patient condition, specimen collection, transport, processing and analysis [15]. Also in a CSF analysis, it has been suggested that several pre analytical factors, such as CSF collection, storage or freeze thawing cycles, can affect the content of CSF proteome, leading to various errors of misunderstanding in the biomarker research [16, 17]. Currently these variables could be divided into two general groups, in vivo and in vitro. In vivo factors are those biological factors that are related directly to the patient, such as a specific time of day needed to collect the CSF or the influence of fasting. On the other hand, in vitro factors are linked to the procedure of sample collection, storage and analysis. Family Unit in Human Sociological Terms Overview The Family Unit In human sociological terms, the family is described as a group of people that have affinity traditionally, organized through husband, wife, and children and/or extended relatives. This unit, called the nuclear family, was a historical organization that served economic and cultural needs, educated children in societal behaviors, and offered stability. In the modern age, however, families of all kinds exist. There may be one two, three or more parents involved in the child s overall plan; those parents may be traditional, grandparents or care givers, same sex couples, or multiple divorces, etc. We live in a diverse world, not just in the United States, but globally. Preparing children for a leadership role in this world also requires that we take into account individual micro and macro differences, celebrate those differences, and view the family as assisting in any way possible the positive relationship of the community, the schools, and other resources to help those children actualize (Hareven, 1991; Berman, 2010). Television is often blamed for having a harmful effect on children. Is this true or is it a hoax, there has been repeated studies and theory s on the effects of TV on children and adults. Television was designed for entertainment and to relax and to inform the masses. Back in the 1900s TV was a rare item in a house hold but. According to the website Salon.com Sociologist Robert Putnam in Bowling Alone (2000) reported that in 1950, about 10 percent of American homes had television sets, but this has grown to more than 99 percent over the 50 years. • 39. U.s. Nsa Program On Surveillance Over the last several years, cyber attacks have been continually rising. This is in response to emerging threats from rogue nations and terrorist groups. They are increasing their attacks on government, military and civilian installations. According to James Clapper (the Director of National Intelligence) these threats have become so severe. It is surpassing terrorism as the greatest challenge facing the nation. In response, the National Security Agency (NSA) began conducting surveillance on those who are involved in these activities and others which are threat to US national security interests. This program became so broad; it started continually collecting phone records and emails on ordinary Americans. This angered many, who felt that the US was acting in a way that circumvented established legal guidelines and procedures. To fully understand what is taking place requires focusing on the event, the government s response and the ways it did / did not meet our national security goals. Together, these different elements will illustrate what occurred and the lasting impacts on everyone. (Greenwald 2014) The NSA program on surveillance began in 2001. This is when Congress authorized government officials to listen in on the phone calls and emails of those individuals suspected of engaging in terrorist activities (via the USA Patriot Act). Constitutional principles are a position from which we operate justly. However, what constitutes as just? Throughout history political power derived from many historical foundations that were deemed just based on the society that upheld those principles. This notion is evident throughout the development of constitutional doctrines in Greek democracy, Aristotle s political theory, Roman Republicanism, and English Constitutionalism. What Aristotle called Polity was based on political power and the best practical government. This notion differed from Ancient Greek democracy. During the 4th Century B.C, Aristotle rose as a critic of direct democracy based on two grounds: are all individuals qualified to govern? Should we select a few individuals who are fit for leadership? Bernard Crick writes, while democracy was for him a necessary condition for good government, it was far from a sufficient condition (Crick 1). Aristotle had a negative outlook on human nature. This led to his belief on how a government system should rule and the dismissal of a direct democracy. Similarly to Ancients, Aristotle believed that a direct democracy would only crumble. For this reason, he introduced Checks and balances . Checks and balances gave limited power to each branch of power and to the people. He identified his a polity by representative government, balanced government, and a mixed government. Representative government is one ruled by a leader . And yet, he questioned the idea of placing trust in the hands of the uneducated, incompetent. More importantly, he believed that in order to be a leader, one must meet the five characteristics to be considered a leader . The characteristics required: intelligence, knowledge, experience, wisdom, and virtue. It was especially important for one to attain wisdom because that is the end result of knowledge ... Compassion Fatigue Paper The current class has been very informative on nursing theories and it is the dream of every aspiring nursing student and registered nurses to provide compassionate care to the patients. Nurses have a role not only to offer physical care but to offer mental, spiritual and emotional support to patients as well. Patients with complex and frequently diverse needs must be given the full attention of the nurse based on their needs. Jean Watson s theory of caring said, true healing cannot be realized without caring therefore, compassion fatigue is a problem that does not only affect nurses, but goes a notch higher by also affecting the quality of care offered by compassion fatigue victims. Boyle (2011) observed that there is need for nurses to be compassionate and caring especially when providing care to patients, families or relatives. Slatten et al. We are not giving our own planet a right to live, and our planet was not created for our own benefit. We are guest on this planet and we should treat our host with some respects and dignity. This implies basically that the core of nursing is in caring and other qualities of nursing as a profession builds on it. Her assumptions of caring affirms that in all we do to assist a client, caring is the most important. She claimed that without caring, curing cannot effectively occur. Gonzalo (2011), refers to caring as being more healthogenic than curing because it integrates biophysical knowledge with knowledge of human behavior to generate or promote health and to provide ministrations to those who are ill. He also concluded in his review of Jean Watson s work that the science of caring is complementary to the science of curing . Geraldine Brooks s Reading The Secret Chord A Novel The Secret Chord Reading The Secret Chord A Novel by Geraldine Brooks was like reading about the biblical character King David for the first time. Author Ms. Brooks brought King David s character to life. As I read, I hardly realized that the novel is over five hundred pages. Brooks carefully built upon the biblical story of David. What I appreciate is that Brooks did not omit information rather she expanded on the facts colorfully and creatively. Some of the expansion is based on theory. However, the majority of the story aligns with biblical and historical chronology. For example, the story expands on David s childhood relationship with his paternal and maternal caregivers. The story interestingly describes King David as a talented musician among his many talents. King David s musical ability had the power to soothe the savage, unite his offspring, and bring healing and unity to two split nations. David s instrument of choice was a harp, that was a part of his existence. Geraldine enlightens us to how beautifully David played the harp; she says if the harp where a loom the notes he drew from it a bright thread forming a splendid pattern . . . He played this way often, even interrupting meetings with his generals . . . He said that music its order and precision helped him find the patterns in things the way through the confusion of events and opinions to the direction to order, and beyond inspiration (Brooks 40).The text even says you could read his mind through his ...
