Tana River is a multi ethnic County that is gifted with abundant natural resource wealth, which
includes, among others water sources, fertile land, beautiful beaches, forests and wild game. These
resources have never been fully exploited in favour of the communities in the County. Since
independence, the successive governments deliberately renounced to listen to the plight of the
communities by yielding insignificant attention by not prioritizing Tana River Districtin their
community empowerment and development agendas the dark days of the single party dictatorship.
More so, the aspects of poor leadership from some of the previous government and political
officials, who behaved in a servile manner, and the unwarranted internal ethnic acrimonies have
endorsed the current contemptible state of the County. Consequently, the County is marred by poor
infrastructure, dilapidated and non existence (in some areas) of health facilities, impoverished
communities, insecurity, virtually non existence of clean water and sanitation facilities, low
education standards among others. In five words, therefore, we can confidently state that, These
communities have been marginalized, and if the status quo remains, procreation of marginalized
