The Waffle House Essay
The Waffle House
It s late one Friday night. You, accompanied by a select group of your closest friends, drive down
the interstate, wanting desperately to be at home in the warmth of your bed. Suddenly, the lot of
us sees the sign. Like a beacon it is, summoning us to it like proverbial moths to a flame.
Forgetting about the need for sleep, we turn onto the off ramp, a string of drool dripping down and
off of your chin. Waffle House, we say with a gleam in our eyes, we have arrived. What follows
will be one of the most important events of our adult lives: a tireless ritual continuing into infinity
all across the nation s good expanse.
The Waffle House is without a doubt one of the last surviving institutions of... Show more content

Our struggle, however, is forgotten once the waitress finally arrives, casually sauntering over to us
with looks of total indifference. She stuffs her loose and falling hair back up into her gaudy,
burgundy cloth hat.
So, whaddyallhave? she asks, waiting for us to decipher her strange and jumbled dialect. More
often than not, the only reason we come here is to order what Waffle House is most famous for,
and that (as if you needed to be told) is coffee. Waffle House coffee is a mystical brew with high
caffeine content and an identifiable taste. No other restaurant s coffee is as desirable, because only
Waffle House s has that real man, industrial strength flavor. Grumpily, the waitress stomps away,
aware that her tip will be far less than generous.
Anyone who knows anything about the politics behind the Waffle House experience also knows
that there are definite rules and guidelines that dictate how the course of events is to be played out
during the span of a single visit. This routine begins with the arrival of the much anticipated cups of
coffee, continues with pleasant conversation and playful intercourse amongst the customers, and
culminates with the paying of the check and the inevitable departure. Our Waffle House chef makes
the claim that the people who frequent the restaurant are, for the most part, regulars and that they
all seem to

World Systems Theory in Archaeology Essay
These papers deal with the world systems theory of Wallerstien s article as well as the other
specialists criticisms on it. They bring up basically three main ideas, which first off, include the
significant role of the periphery in the core periphery relationship. Secondly, the need to focus on
internal and local affects on interrelations between different polities instead of concentrating on the
external and generalized role of interaction. Lastly, they demand a model that is diversified enough
to allow for analyzation of various levels of interaction between different groups.
In Halls article, he points out that this theory has a few weaknesses, such as its basis is on only
one situation of modern times, which does not always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus the first step in achieving a paradigm, he states Chase Dunn s suggestion that the empirical
denominations of the world system theory s assumptions must be developed. Hall emphasizes other
points that should be incorporated in a new methodology, which are not already present to the world
systems theory by Wallenstein. One aspect is that each of system s units works in relation to the
whole system; they do not develop on their own. Another is that each system is a world within
itself; that its internal factors are just as important in its progress as the external factors affecting it.
Other points that must be realized to achieve better understanding of past political social
interaction, is to learn the positive aspects of expansion and incorporation and the role of peripheral
and semi peripheral states, as well as the ramifications of incorporation on the system.
He includes some various world systems theories as examples in order to emphasize the different
the facets that they can take such as being based on war, technological innovation, geopolitics etc.
The incorporation of diverse models that concentrate on certain facets of the system into what he
calls the iteration model , will ultimately lead to a better understanding of social evolution.
At the same time, Hall realizes the importance of the core periphery in the study of social
evolution. Contrary to the world systems model is

Short Trip To The Metropolitan Museum
Museum experience Museum is a magic place for human beings to talk to the greatest artists in the
history regardless of time and space. Visiting a museum is like taking a long walk in the history of
human beings. Artworks are designated to record either the unique thoughts of artists or the
indelible history of a period. A short trip of the Metropolitan Museumbrings me not only the joy of
visiting, but also the decorous feeling of baroque art. It is not surprise that many baroque art is
devoted to demonstrate the majesty and solemnity. Ferdinando de Medici (1663 1713), Grand
Prince of Tuscany ,which is created by Giovanni Battista Foggini, deeply impress me.

Negligent Tort
Negligence is a tort law and it falls within the civil law which means a civil wrong has been
committed (Tort and Negligence, 2012). The American civil justice system, defines the law of
torts as situations that occur when the wrongful conduct of one party causes harm to another
individual (WiseGeek, 2003). The responsible party fails to act as a reasonable person to someone
to whom she or he owes a duty, as required by law under the circumstances. Negligent torts are not
committed purposely, and there must be an injury that occurs from the breach of the duty
(Negligent Tort Law, 2014).

diligence and the negligence committed can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Small injuries or damages may occur when products malfunction, death may occur, or there
could be damage done to ones property. The company could face possible lawsuits and in order
to prove negligence, an individual must have had a duty of care, which is defined as having
responsibility to act in the best interest of another. A company must always be ready to defend
itself in all the possible issues that may arise and cause any form of lawsuit (WiseGeek, 2003).
Recalled Product
Even though businesses do not like to recall its products, but when there is a safety problem
involved a recall takes precedent over rather a company will lose money. Recalls are necessary
to protect consumers from injuries, and to save lives. Recalls are beneficial to everyone when
expedited effectively. From the act of negligence a company could publicly be exposed which
could result in profit loss due to consumers being afraid or refuse to purchase the product, and the
stock values could fall if the company is publicly traded. This can be very damaging for a business
and could ultimately force the company to go out of business (Seaquist, 2012).
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is an independent regulatory agency
responsible for protecting the public from unreasonable risks of injury and death associated with
consumer products. The CPSC has jurisdiction over approximately 15,000 different types of

Essay on Attempting to Measure Welfare in the Philippines
Most of the unemployed are not poor; and most of the poor are not unemployed. If read at first this
statement may seem to be absurd but it is in fact the reality that plagues our country today. For one,
it is determined that unemployment brings upon the prevalence of poverty but how come would
the poor in the Philippines be in fact be in the midst of the employed? Emmanuel S. de Dios and
Katrina I. Dinglasan have adequately answered this baffling phenomenon with historical data and
mathematical computations thus proving that unemployment is not an effective measure of welfare,
i.e., in our country. The Philippines in its current state cannot be painted in its best picture hence it
stands on unsteady grounds both economically and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the government will perhaps stimulate capital investments (by lower interest rates, there would be
no need for low skill labor in this sector and the excess manpower derived from this movement may
be diverted in other more productive means. Thus, about the last paper assignment regarding the
three pronged approach to growth, I now question if the establishment of special labor employment
zones would make the country better off especially now that it has been proven that poverty does
not necessarily lessen with the surge of employment. Overall the rationalization that it is better for
the poor to earn something than nothing regarding the special employment zone does not bode well
for the country in terms of the welfare of its citizens, hence the government should do something
concerning this implication. Now, what could the government do given the problem at hand? I
think the government may still implement the special labor employment zones because overall it
will still increase the country s productivity but aside from that the government, I think, in the short
run could perhaps do capital investments especially in the agriculture sector, such as granting this
sector the use of modern day equipment that would increase productivity but at a lower cost. In lieu
with the years ahead the government should better concern itself in improving its human

Beowulf Character Analysis
The Great Motivator
(An analysis of Beowulf s Motivations) Are everyone s motivations to become a hero pure? This
question can be hard to answer depending on the hero. Spidermans motivations for saving an
innocent child were pure, but what about people suffering from hero syndrome? A syndrome, that
has become a recent phenomenon. This syndrome makes people seek heroism or recognition by
creating desperate situations that they resolve in order to become a hero. As common as this
syndrome is today, it was not a common syndrome in the tenth century. In the epic poem Beowulf,
translated by Burton Raffel, a mighty warrior named Beowulf fights three terrible monsters.

In Beowulf s lifetime, he killed three terrible monsters. One of these monsters was a great fire
breathing dragon that was hurting his people. The other two monsters were killing people in a
different kingdom. Beowulf is a great warrior and went to assist the other kingdom. Throughout
the epic poem, there is a theme of how will people remember you once you die? This is
important to Beowulf because he needed to set a good example to the warriors, and leave a
legacy for once he was dead. After Beowulf dies in the story, it reads, Crying that no better king
had ever lived, no price so mild, no man so open to his people, so deserving of praise. (867 869)
This is Beowulf s warriors mourning over his death. He had set such a great example to the
warriors on how to be a true warrior that they wept over his death. They have been extremely
mournful since the greatest example, they had ever seen had died. Beowulf s motivation of
becoming an example to the Anglo Saxons before he died through being a great warrior and king
was fulfilled. The example that Beowulf left became a legacy to the Anglo Saxon warriors.
Beowulf was an individual that others aspired to be like. The motivation of Beowulf s to be an
example to all the Anglo Saxon warriors is pure.
Another motivation for Beowulf is that he needed to save his people, even if it meant sacrificing
his own life. With his last fight

Upton Sinclair s The Jungle
In 1906, American Writer, Upton Sinclair wrote the novel The Jungle to portray the harsh working
conditions for immigrants working in the United states. The original purpose of the book was to
describe the American meatpacking industry and the working conditions associated with it to
promote socialism. Author Upton SinclairCommented, after the books release I aimed at the public

Why Do You Want In Life Essay
Life is full of many choices. Anyone can decide to choice whatever they want in life as my friends
always tell me. I have enjoyed life to its fullest. I have made both bad and good choices. When I
started school I wanted to be a Doctor but as times goes on, I decided that there is no way I can be
a Doctor. I changed my mind from that vision when I saw what Doctors do. In my life, I have tried
a lot of sports, and I can say that soccer is the best and my favorite among the rest. Soccer as sports
is the best among all because a lot of people support it all over the world; it has fewer injuries and
also international competition. Many people support soccer. Soccer has a lot of people support
it. Every country that you will go, you will see soccer pitch like every area. The majority of world
populations follow soccer because it has so many registered soccer players across the globe and
it is not surprising it has support worldwide than any other sports. I love soccer and due to that I

Soccer is like everywhere. Every year, there are always competitions. Even in U.S.A alone,
sometimes U.S.A soccer teams sometimes go to different countries to play with them. In 2006,
there was world cup played in Germany. A lot of people all over the world went there to watch
their favorite players. Soccer brings unity among countries. I remember when U.S.A national team
played with Ghana soccer team, a lot of spectators enjoyed it to the fullest. So be frank, soccer
provides more opportunities to compete internationally. Compare to other sports, no all the
countries even participate it and even if they do, they don t compete for anything. This is why
soccer is my favorite because it gives a lot of opportunities to the youth to represent their country
and both youth and amateur level. It was my dream to play for my country soccer

The Aging American Population Essay
The Aging American Population The American population has changed dramatically over the last
century. Our society has become effected by this in all areas and walks of life. It is unknown what
the future holds for America, but the statistical trends in an aging populationmay shed some light.

decades of the century. Within the United States, the size of the population over age 65 has soared

Though average length of hospital stays has decreased for those over 65, their visits to physicians
are over twice as frequent as those under 65. With increases in age, the intensity of using health
care resources increases: Those over 75, though only 5.5 percent of the total population in 1993,
accounted for 28 percent of all hospital days. At the same time, the caregiver population comprised
of both the elderly and non elderly will be impacted by these changes.
Aging is also an aspect of population dynamics that affects the level of poverty also. As fertility
declines and the population ages, traditional family based systems for providing old age care
may weaken, leaving the elderly vulnerable. The income security of older persons is a policy
concern not only in developed countries but increasingly as well in developing countries such as
China that have passed through the demographic transition. Between 2000 and 2050, the
proportion of the population aged 65 and older will have doubled in most developing regions. This
exponential increase in the aging populous could leave that generation drastically vulnerable. Not
only would the health standard be effected but also the income producing majority. Forecasts show
that policy makers must address the impact of our aging population in the next decade to stay
ahead of the demand on resources required by a population

Strategic Leadership Case Study Infosys
Introduction
This paper embodies two case studies to illustrate the issues of strategic leadership of a leading
company; Infosys based in India and provides regional and global technology services in
engineering and software development. Infosys was founded in 1981 by Narayana Murthy and six
other Software Engineers (Hoover). The first case is based on strategic leadership issues in 2014,
when the founders stepped down into non executive positions after almost three decades to appoint
the first non founding chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director; Vishal Sikka (https:/

Murthy has also contributed in leading key corporate governance initiatives in India (Barnabas,
Joseph, Clifford, 2010). In 2005 at the World Economic Forum, he defined a business leader as
one who shoulders the biggest responsibility to seek the truth, communicate it to other stakeholders
and live by the truth (Bhattacharya, 2005). According to Spears (2004), the attributes that are key
to a servant leader are listening, empathy, healing, awareness, persuasion, conceptualization,
foresight, stewardship, commitment to growth of people and building community all of which
can be seen in Murthy s leadership. He had a holistic approach to work and shared the power of
decision making as he promoted a sense of community (Greenleaf, 1990). Another leadership style
Murthy exhibited was transformational leadership from the very beginning when he first had the
vision to create the company and sold the vision to the other six people and convinced them to
climb on board the bandwagon contributing to team proactivity (Wu Wang, 2015). In fact,
Barnabas, Joseph, and Clifford (2010) state that servant leadership is a long transformational
approach to work and life in the sense of having the potential to create positive changes in society
(Spears, 2004). Murthy also fits in the

Intellectual Property And Creative Commons
Introduction to The Trio: Jasper, Summer and Dak (The Trio) have developed a reality
television show named Stuck . It centres on love, university and the dramas it all encompasses,
with two main people being Rose and Austin. The show will air every Monday night at 8:00pm
till 9:00pm. This creative idea exists with the hope that it will grow largely popular with their
target audience, which are adolescents generally between the ages of 14 and 23. It is my highly
important job as manager to consider different avenues within the creative industries to find the
best solution in protection The Trio s creative property. I will analyse aspects intellectual
property and creative commons and report back to The Trio with what option is best for them in
protecting their television show. Intellectual property: Intellectual property law is that area of
law which concerns legal rights associated with creative effort or commercial reputation and
goodwill (Bainbridge, 2006, p. 03). The law exists to discourage others taking unfair advantage
or copying the creative work of another person or group (Bainbridge, 2006). A country s system
of intellectual property rights has set standards to establish a creator s rights, in order to prevent
others from exploiting the economic value of their artistic endeavors, and have actions in place if
the exploitation were to occur (Maskus, 2000). Some rights are there to benefit large corporations,
while others are there to simply prevent unfair use

Jorge Luis Borges Irony
The writing styles of Edgar Allen Poe and Jorge Luis Borges are very in sync when it comes to
literary devices such as irony, imagery, setting and so on. In many of their stories, the authors
demonstrate their extraordinary technique through the short story The Purloined Letter written by
Poe and The Garden of Forking Paths written by Borges. Piquing the readers mind and causing a
sensation of awe at the end their story, they entice the reader to experience a whole new world of
literature, forcing the reader to scrutinize the text in a manner, in which a pedestrian reader would

be vastly different, or practically identical. Though there are many similarities between the novel
Hoot written by Carl Hiaasen, and the film directed by Wil Shriner, there are some differences as
well. As a young man, Roy Eberhardt was a strange individual. Hoot, both the film and the novel,
are based on a boy s new life in Coconut Cove, Florida. As most would expect, starting a new life in
a place that you ve never been before, isn t exactly a cup of tea. Roy grew up being the nerdy,

whole scene at the restaurant was cut out and went directly to Officer Delinko confronting his

described as being young and loyal by his boss and his dad. He is the leading, as known as only
officer investigating the vandalism at the Mother Paula s All American Pancake House

Transcendentalism Through Popular Culture Project
Transcendentalism through Popular Culture Project One of the five principles of transcendentalism
is nonconformity. Nonconformity is defined as failure or refusal to conform to established
customs, attitudes, or ideas. It is to think higher than what society allows and to be above and
beyond the accepted social standards. Ralph Waldo Emerson, a popular transcendentalist,
demonstrates this principle in one of his compositions, Self Reliance, Whoso would be a man
must be a nonconformist, (Emerson, Self Reliance, 392). Emerson is saying that you should not
be like others but to build your own personality and to be your own person because you could be
of great influence. Chris Guillebeau s The Art of Nonconformity is an example of
nonconformity because the central theme is nonconformity. The whole book is based on the
principle that success can come from defying the standards and to set your own rules to live life
the way you want. To be successful, you do not need to agree with society. In The Art of
Nonconformity, Guillebeau calls people who conform to society sleepwalkers. Guillebeau
states, If you re stuck in the cage, it s time to smash the glass around you and crawl your way
out. You don t need anyone s permission to climb the ladder, and you don t need to apologize for
escaping. If the sleepwalking life is the real world of the unremarkably average, the clear
alternative is the living world of adventure. The cage symbolizes the standards of society and to

Marxism And Realism
Realism, Marxism, and the U.S. North Korean foreign policy
Athena Jones
Intro to Foreign affairs
IUPUI
This essay will delve into United States foreign policy for North Korea explaining both
perspectives of the theories Marxism and Realism relating to international relations. The main
focus of the overall policy in question from the last paper was strategic patience, nuclear
proliferation, economic sanctions, and hacking. Another interesting and relevant topic, to be
added, is about the food aid provided repeatedly by the U.S. in false hope for possible proliferation
of North Korea.
Marxism is a theory of capitalism, and a historical structural theory. This limits what we can glean

Marxism clearly favors technological progress, though Marx himself was often critical of social
effects that technical change had on the employment and working conditions of laborers (Roth,

systems, and encourage nuclear power for the potential benefits of hastening revolution of the
working class. Neo Marxist would probably be more fervent about nuclear deproliferation. I think
this is true because they would view the reliance on the supreme leader as the number one factor
preventing revolution, and if the supreme leader provides defense in the form of nuclear weapons,
and cheap power from nuclear power plants, the proletariat becomes more dependant on the system.
This would delay revolution, and be

How Did Icarus Change Ovid s Life
The story of Daedalus and Icarus, reflected Ovid s changing thoughts and morals of his personal
life as he undergoes the life changing event of getting exiled by Emperor Augustus, through the
characters of the poem. Ovid is born an Icarus, innocent and naive, with no idea of how much
danger awaits him if he chooses to forsake his guide and soar in the boundless sky . Ovid s father
planned for him to become a political official, sending him to Rome to get an education, and then
Athens. Ovid s anxious father planned his future, as Daedalusplanned Icarus s, in order to make
sure their sons had prosperous steady lives. (Ovid) At first both sons were cooperative; but then

Perdix, after being murdered by Daedalus, was turned into the Partridge. The Partridge hides in
shaded places by the leafy trees its nested eggs among the bush s twigs; , writes Ovid himself in
Daedalus and Icarus, nor does it seek to rise in lofty flight, for it is mindful of its former fall. The
Partridge keeps in the bushes, not all the way under the ground in poverty, as Ovid s father
thought he would be, but also not high in the sky, bold and arrogant enough at the success of his
career, which causes him to take risks. The Partridge enjoys a steady life, living the middle way.
After Ovid s poem and a mistake , which he told his readers himself was the reason that he was
exiled, he lived a relatively average life. He was miserable enough at first in his prison, but not
because he lived in poverty, the bottom ground. He lived a relatively comfortable life, treated
extremely well by inhabitants of Tomis, and as stated by Kenney, there are hints in the later poems
that Ovid was even becoming reconciled to his fate when death released him. Ovid continued to
write the poetry he so dearly loved, but they never reached the grand heights of his earlier successes.
They attracted less attention, and made no bold statements anyone might find offensive. The once

Totalitarianism, Violence, and the Color Red in The Handmaid s Tale In literature, the color red

They also wear a white habit, which blocks their peripheral vision when walking to the market.
Everything except the wings around my face is red: the color of blood (8). The color red that
the Handmaids are dressed in represents fertility, their main purpose. The desire to conceive a
child is what all Handmaids strive to achieve. When a Handmaid has her menstrual cycle each
month, the blood serves as a reminder and reinforces what they desire so much. Likewise, the
blood red gowns of the Handmaids conjure positive associations with birth and life as well as
pejorative links with suffering, shame, and female bondage to reproductive cycles (enotes). The
government stresses the importance of conceiving a child so much, that the Handmaids have
become fearful if they do not become pregnant. The Handmaids that are unable to are sent to the
colonies to perform hard manual labor and are called Unwomen . This ideology has a negative
psychological impact on how the Handmaids view life; it is mostly based on survival.
Throughout the novel, Offred s and the Handmaids lives are dominated by the color red. Their
garments are red, the doctors who examine them each month wear red armbands, the sidewalks
they walk on are red, and the vehicles that transport them to view each birth (the birthmobiles) are

The Character Of The Patient In The Screwtape Letters
The patient in The Screwtape Letters is an interesting character. He is a struggle for Wormwood
who is trying to keep him close to the Devil. I see him as a writer who has been put into the army
to do defence work. I see him as a writer who was a professor so his knowledge is very extensive in
many things in life.
The patient could have many jobs but I see him as a writer. There are many times that screwtape
talks about how smart he is. Writers usually know a lot in what they write about. In the first chapter
Screwtape says Your manhas been accustomed, ever since he was a boy, to have a dozen
incompatible philosophies dancing about together inside his head. He doesn t think of doctrines
as primarily true or false , but as academic or practical , outworn or contemporary , conventional
or ruthless . Jargon, not argument, is your best ally in keeping him from the Church. (chapter 1
first paragraph) This shows that the patient does know his stuff and thinks through everything. I
see him as a writer for science and philosophy books. These people could be professors and the
patient could have been a professor before since he knows so much about life. The patient s job
during the war was a defence worker (ch. 28, p154). This defence work could be helping build
barricades in roads and planning where to strategically place the barriers. Since I saw him as a
writer, I see it fitting that he is a defence worker because a smaller man would not be able to fight

black and viscous semi solid form of petroleum.(Merriam Webster) The bitumen is extracted
from the earth and separated from materials that are not petroleum. This process consumes both
water from the Athabasca River drainage basin and energy. While emissions from the water
used are low the airborne pollutants contain more than 350 kilograms of cancer causing
chemicals every four months.(Kelly) Also, bitumen is one of the least efficient power sources
in the world.(Rapier) The Tar Sands are dangerous for people to live near, are environmentally
damaging and unsustainable and are an inefficient source of power compared to other sources
available in Canada. While the Tar Sands are currently good for the canadian economy, in the
long term they will cost us more than they make. The content of cancer causing chemicals like
PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) is twice as high as the standard recommended by the
national oceanic and atmospheric administration in the United States. These levels have been
observed to cause liver cancer in fish. (Timoney 68) Fish from Lake Athabasca have been found

Managed care contracts are investment assets, similar to stocks and bonds. As such these contracts

For hospitals, the predominant unit of payment for inpatient care is often a per day basis. The
hospital receives a fixed daily payment rate per enrollee patient regardless of the services provided.
However, it can have mixed option in the hospitals including pay a per diem rate for all inpatient

Contradictions In The Movie Punk
The film SLC: Punk follows a group of Punk friends during the year 1985 in the religiously

Effects of Capitalism on Production Conservation of Nature

ARCH 596: Seminar on the Built Environment II: Landscape and Society
Dr. Ross E Adams
Abstract
The report will be primarily focused on the influence of capitalism on production and conservation
of nature. From being individuals dependent upon nature humans have become forces which
manipulate and effect nature. Besides this, the very fact that we use the term resource for nature
represents that humans have developed the habit of considering nature as a commodity. The idea of
commodification of nature has been explored in this report through the texts of Karl Marx, Neil
Smith and Noel Castree. This report also tries to investigate ... Show more content on

The relation between efforts to isolate and conserve nature and fear of uncertain future was also
a topic worth exploring through the above mentioned projects. In discussing this relation the
analogy between the current scenario and the effort from the 70 s onward to conserve fauna
through zoos, due an impending fear of loss of species has been examined. Another crucial aspect
of these projects was the displacement of land and tress from their natural habitat to the artificial
biomes. Movement of large amount of fertile soil and trees from their native place to an alien
place and calling it a conservational phenomenon seems paradoxical and requires further analysis.
The idea of colonizing space as a future prospect has been explored particularly with reference to
Biosphere 2 a comparison between the present responses to the crisis and relevant responses which
have been proposed but not implemented has also been discussed in this report. To sum up this
report analyzes the political and capitalistic motives behind the conservational projects which are
resulting from climate crisis. Climate change has started affecting us by and large. The frequency
of natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods etc. is increasing day by day. We have arrived at a
moment of grave danger as confirmed by many environmental scientists. Experts on climate crisis

The Taliban
The Taliban are a part of history and people should be aware of who they are and what they do.
The Taliban has evolved over the years and unfortunately have grown stronger over the years.
They started off as a group of students and it is sad to know that these students who could have
started with a good future ended up being a part of a terrorist group. They think they are doing
right because they may read the Quran but they only focus on the words and passages they want to

understand the real words of Allah. The Talibanhave been around for a long time and as a result the
Taliban havetaken over territory such as Afghanistan and many others. One of the territories the
Taliban has is Afghanistan and the government is seen as corrupted because they help the Taliban.
Corruption may exist anywhere but would the Afghan government be supporting the Taliban with

The outcome of this modus operandi is a rational decision that is, one that most effectively

bring about either large and basic or limited changes in public policies. Perhaps it is important to
note that these decisions are more often than not in line with the ideals and aspirations of elites,
who are happy with the political situation as it stands. Thus, this contributes (I submit) to the wide

Visions Of Light Analysis
The documentary Visions of Light was made for the purpose of showing the art of cinematography.
Cinematography was defined throughout the film as the making of a motion picture. I found out
that I was unconsciously responding to light. said by Ernest Dickerson an American film director
and cinematographer. Lightis thought of to be something so little but means so much in a film. It is
used to change the emotion and to tell people where to look. What s important are the lights you
don t turn on said by Allen Daviau. As explained in the documentary, the dark was not used as
negative space but as the most important part of the scene. This means they took advantage of the
darkness, they used it as a tool to add in emotion such as sadness or fear. Visions of Light uses
John Alton s film T men (1947) to exemplify how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During these clips cinematographers explain different techniques of the lighting used while
filming. In the 1930 s the lighting creates a glossy, glamorous, harder edge look. During the
1940 s the lighting created a documentary/realistic look. Touch of Evil 1958 brought along the
inspiration of filming many scenes with a hand help camera allowing it to be brought in new
settings for scenes which led to the lighting to be used differently. In the clips from Touch of
Evil the lighting changes from light to dark drastically but never leads on an unclear story
behind what is going on. Throughout the 1960 s brought out fresh new filming because of the

bold. As the many years passed cinematographers were able to learn new ways of bettering film as

My Personal Life On My Life
Priorities When I began to contemplate the possibility to go back to school, I knew I had to
make some major changes in my personal life in order to make school a priority. I don t tend to
go out to social events often, because I prefer to relax in my place, spend time with my family
and go shopping. However, one day I was invited to an event and from that event, a lot of other
events followed. I became part of a social group that constantly were doing different activities all
the time. Facebook and Instagram crawled in, and I was spending too much of my time, trying to
keep up with everything that was going on. I knew that if I wanted to make schoola priority, I had to
separate myself from all the unnecessary social events, the people I was surrounding myself
with, and social media. Why? Because I tend to get distracted easily and at this moment of my
life, school is my number one priority. Professionally, I had to make a couple of changes in my
job regarding volunteer work that I was doing, which was taking my time and energy. I spoke to
my boss, and informed her that I was not able to continue doing the extra volunteer activities,
that I was doing. By doing this, I made my academic school work a priority. Academically, I
know I will be faced with a lot of barriers, for example, disappointments, discouragement, anxiety,
and fear of not being able to keep up with all the school responsibilities a collegestudent faces. One
of the things that I will be doing to work

This is a common challenge accepted by many corporations which see a need to satisfy investors
and remain relevant in their industry. In order to achieve massive growth HP needed to look
beyond operational efficiency and more to short term innovative products and services. The
challenge, was how to achieve this short term innovation. The case describes how HP created the
Innovation Program Office (IPO) to explore and develop innovative opportunities, and whether this
concept could be extended across HP s seven business segments. HP s IPO first started with the
Personal Systems Group (PSG) in 2006. This group was responsible for commercial and consumer
PCs, workstations, handheld computing devices, digital entertainment systems and calculators.
This group under the leadership of Philip McKinney sought to: Change how innovation is pursued.
Be on the cutting edge of technological advances. Change the budgeting strategy for research and
development (R D) products. Create new businesses adjacent to HP (CoreCo) Emerging Business
Unit (EBU). Form ideas in areas that established business units were not pursuing. 3 SYSM 6316

  • 2. The Waffle House Essay The Waffle House It s late one Friday night. You, accompanied by a select group of your closest friends, drive down the interstate, wanting desperately to be at home in the warmth of your bed. Suddenly, the lot of us sees the sign. Like a beacon it is, summoning us to it like proverbial moths to a flame. Forgetting about the need for sleep, we turn onto the off ramp, a string of drool dripping down and off of your chin. Waffle House, we say with a gleam in our eyes, we have arrived. What follows will be one of the most important events of our adult lives: a tireless ritual continuing into infinity all across the nation s good expanse. The Waffle House is without a doubt one of the last surviving institutions of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our struggle, however, is forgotten once the waitress finally arrives, casually sauntering over to us with looks of total indifference. She stuffs her loose and falling hair back up into her gaudy, burgundy cloth hat. So, whaddyallhave? she asks, waiting for us to decipher her strange and jumbled dialect. More often than not, the only reason we come here is to order what Waffle House is most famous for, and that (as if you needed to be told) is coffee. Waffle House coffee is a mystical brew with high caffeine content and an identifiable taste. No other restaurant s coffee is as desirable, because only Waffle House s has that real man, industrial strength flavor. Grumpily, the waitress stomps away, aware that her tip will be far less than generous. Anyone who knows anything about the politics behind the Waffle House experience also knows that there are definite rules and guidelines that dictate how the course of events is to be played out during the span of a single visit. This routine begins with the arrival of the much anticipated cups of coffee, continues with pleasant conversation and playful intercourse amongst the customers, and culminates with the paying of the check and the inevitable departure. They bring up basically three main ideas, which first off, include the significant role of the periphery in the core periphery relationship. Secondly, the need to focus on internal and local affects on interrelations between different polities instead of concentrating on the external and generalized role of interaction. Lastly, they demand a model that is diversified enough to allow for analyzation of various levels of interaction between different groups. Thus the first step in achieving a paradigm, he states Chase Dunn s suggestion that the empirical denominations of the world system theory s assumptions must be developed. Hall emphasizes other points that should be incorporated in a new methodology, which are not already present to the world systems theory by Wallenstein. One aspect is that each of system s units works in relation to the whole system; they do not develop on their own. Another is that each system is a world within itself; that its internal factors are just as important in its progress as the external factors affecting it. Other points that must be realized to achieve better understanding of past political social interaction, is to learn the positive aspects of expansion and incorporation and the role of peripheral and semi peripheral states, as well as the ramifications of incorporation on the system. He includes some various world systems theories as examples in order to emphasize the different the facets that they can take such as being based on war, technological innovation, geopolitics etc. The incorporation of diverse models that concentrate on certain facets of the system into what he calls the iteration model , will ultimately lead to a better understanding of social evolution. If read at first this statement may seem to be absurd but it is in fact the reality that plagues our country today. For one, it is determined that unemployment brings upon the prevalence of poverty but how come would the poor in the Philippines be in fact be in the midst of the employed? Emmanuel S. de Dios and Katrina I. Overall the rationalization that it is better for the poor to earn something than nothing regarding the special employment zone does not bode well for the country in terms of the welfare of its citizens, hence the government should do something concerning this implication. Now, what could the government do given the problem at hand? I think the government may still implement the special labor employment zones because overall it will still increase the country s productivity but aside from that the government, I think, in the short run could perhaps do capital investments especially in the agriculture sector, such as granting this sector the use of modern day equipment that would increase productivity but at a lower cost. • 22. Transcendentalism Through Popular Culture Project Transcendentalism through Popular Culture Project One of the five principles of transcendentalism is nonconformity. Nonconformity is defined as failure or refusal to conform to established customs, attitudes, or ideas. It is to think higher than what society allows and to be above and beyond the accepted social standards. Ralph Waldo Emerson, a popular transcendentalist, demonstrates this principle in one of his compositions, Self Reliance, Whoso would be a man must be a nonconformist, (Emerson, Self Reliance, 392). Emerson is saying that you should not be like others but to build your own personality and to be your own person because you could be of great influence. Chris Guillebeau s The Art of Nonconformity is an example of nonconformity because the central theme is nonconformity. The whole book is based on the principle that success can come from defying the standards and to set your own rules to live life the way you want. To be successful, you do not need to agree with society. In The Art of Nonconformity, Guillebeau calls people who conform to society sleepwalkers. Guillebeau states, If you re stuck in the cage, it s time to smash the glass around you and crawl your way out. You don t need anyone s permission to climb the ladder, and you don t need to apologize for escaping. From being individuals dependent upon nature humans have become forces which manipulate and effect nature. In discussing this relation the analogy between the current scenario and the effort from the 70 s onward to conserve fauna through zoos, due an impending fear of loss of species has been examined. Another crucial aspect of these projects was the displacement of land and tress from their natural habitat to the artificial biomes.
