Compare And Contrast Hamal And Hildegarn
In ancient times, women were given away to be married or given to abbey s to be cared for at
very young ages. Some of these women grew to be just mothers and wife s, while others became
great and important women in society. Hildegard of Bingen and Gluckel of Hameln are two
great examples of such women in history. Hildegarn and Gluckel both grew up as any other
normal little girl. Until the day everything changed when they were given away. Hildegarn was
eight years old when she was turned over to an abbey in the Rhineland to be cared for. Gluckel
was at the age of almost fourteen years when her father betrothed her to be married to Chayim
Hameln. At the age of fourteen, she married him and started her family. Hildegarn grew up
learning Latin and receiving a good education. While she was a child, she started to have mystical
visions. In middle age, her visions became more dramatic. By the age of 42 everything became
more clear to her when the heavens opened up to her. She was filled with exceptional brilliance....

church to approve of her visions. She wrote letters to many different people asking what to do.
Pope Eugenius wrote back to her telling her to write down all her visions. She started with her
book Scivias. She then went to the convent of Rertsberg and produced Physica and Causa et

fidel castro Essay
The United States of America is a country that believes in democracy and has unfavorable ties with
communist countries. The United States has tried for decades to improve relations with the
countries that don t practice democracy.
History shows disagreements between the United States and dictators of these irreverent countries,
disagreements that brought the world to the brink of nuclear war. The most recent of these
confrontations involved three countries.
United States of America, Cuba and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic

A complete break in diplomatic relations occurred in 1961. On April 17 of that year, anti Castro
exiles supported and trained by the United States government, landed an invasion force in the Bay
of Pigs in southern Cuba. Ninety of the invaders were killed, and some 1200 were captured.
President Castro announced
May 17 that Cuba would exchange prisoners taken at the Bay of Pigs for 500 U.S. bulldozers.
Negotiations broke down June 30, and Castro declared himself a
Marxist Leninist on December 2. He announced formation of a united party to bring communism to
Cuba. Relations between the United States and Cuba grew still more perilous in the fall of 1962,
when the United States discovered

Samuel Johnson And Noah Webster
Words are the way we are able to transcend that of the common savage. We use words to
communicate, to be able to socialize, and work to cooperatively amongst each other. That is how
we were able to advance in technology and pass it on to further generations. Words are the basis of
civilization ,and each word has it s own meaning. A definition which other humans define within
their respected language. However, humans can be easily biased with influences within a lifetime.
Certain influences to the lexicographers can even change the very definitions in their dictionary
which can even make dictionaries opinionated. Noah Webster and Samuel Johnson, both
lexicographers, created dictionaries that vary in style and portray their own views. They re... Show

It may also serve as a catalyst for nationalism since dictionaries may become more nationalistic.
The two lexicographers both had different personalities. Noah Webster can be seen as very
positive when it came to words, whereas Samuel Johnson may be more pessimistic and also
occasionally throws insults at other countries to support his nationalism. Noah Webster s
patronage coming from his devotion on creating a American dictionary, and Samuel Johnson s
pessimistic view on the darkness of human life . Johnson also constantly insults other people
further supporting his pessimistic and negative self. The diction used in both dictionaries differ in
the types of words and their definitions. Noah Webster s dictionary comprised that of the
American english language, rather than to British. Different words pop up in different countries
since one might find the word less significant than the other. Noah Webster s dictionary had new
American words that were quite foreign to the British, so Samuel Johnson s dictionary should
not have an idea on some of the words in Noah Webster s dictionary. Samuel Johnson s dictionary
utilized a lot of insulting of types of people in his diction. His definition of Oats for example had
insulted the scottish by saying that they are fed the same way as horses were fed. Also his
comments where he compares English and French being the same

What Are The Factors That Affect The Civil Rights Movement
The Civil Rights Movement brought to light of a lot of issues that were affecting the people of the
United States. These issues included racism and women s rights, and people who felt they were
discriminated against began to challenge how they were treated. One such group was the National
Organization for Women, a group which fought to ensure equality for women. The National
Organization for Women had a lasting impact on the Civil Rights Movement, and the history of
women.
A group of four women who felt like the country needed to change the way women were treated
took action and started the National Organization for Women. While many women still worked,
they were paid less than their male counterparts. Many employers didn t view women s pay as
necessary for the family, they saw it as extra money the family could use. Marriage Bar was used
by many employers, where many married women could not work certain occupations. Even though
many still worked and kept their jobs, they were paid very little and not treated equally.
The National Organization for Women was founded by a group of feminist in 1966. This group
included author, Betty Friedan, who wrote The Feminine Mystique. The book is credited with
starting second wave feminism. Another notable woman who was involved was Pauli Murray, a law

Devil Facial Tumor Disease Analysis
Devil Facial Tumor Disease (DFTD) can be recognized by lumps around the face and neck.
(Evolution.berkeley.edu, 2008),which causes starvation in 12 18 months due to feeding
difficulties and therefore death (Deakin and Belov, 2012) . This fatal disease affects only
Tasmanian devils, marsupial carnivores of Tasmania. Scientists reported that devils may be
responding to DFTD by breeding earlier before the disease kills them, which could help the species
survive longer (Hamede, McCallum and Jones, 2012).
DFTD spreads due to biting between animals during mating or feeding. The cancer cells themselves
are the infective agent, as opposed to a transmissible virus that leads to Tumor formation. in the case
of the devils (Pearse et al., 2012), the genes that could differentiate between own and foreign cells

The Battle Of The Ottoman Empire
For the Ottoman to progress further it needed a new national mantra for legitimacy in order to
earn the respects of its subjects, in addition the empire had to mold a new national ethos . As said
before that if the Empire was to survive in the modern world, it could no longer be a group of
disparate communities held together by force and obedience to a ruling family; it needed a unity of
consciousness, which would create an active moral link between rulers and the ruled (Hourani
1991: 52). In this sense the old ways of cementing authority were no longer valid during the mid
nineteenth century. Another country that faced this dilemma was Russia, which ironically, was a
longtime rival of the Ottoman Empirefor influence in Eastern Europe and the Black Sea, yet just
like the Ottoman Empire it also faced the challenges of reconciling the increasingly outdated
notion of absolute monarchy to modern civic values. For Russia its answer was to turn to an
ideology that would seemingly be a unifying factor for the Slavic peoples in Europe with the Czar
as its head similar to that of Pan Islam followed by Abdul Hamid. In the Russian case it would
follow three principles: Orthodoxy, Autocracy, and Nationality. This notion was formulated by the
late Russian education minister Sergei Uvarov who stated these principles in an 1832 report
outlining the future direction of Russian education. Uvarov, a man who once studied in Vienna and
an enthusiast for Oriental Studies, believed that the

Cleopatra s dream has received minimal critical attention in the canon of Shakespearean
scholarship and is completely overlooked even among the appreciations I like best (Harold
Bloom s and Camille Paglia s), a curious fate for a passage that forces us to reprocess not only
the Egyptian queen but her rambling, indigestible play as well. Difficulty isn t the problem; these
critics foci are comparatively subtler and practically impervious to unspecialized contemplation.
How to explain, then, the agonizing struggle, especially at this crucial moment in the play, evinced
by many of the best and most illustrious actresses of stage and screen who have braved the role?
Perhaps the critic who expects nay, hopes that our most gifted actors will also necessarily be good
or even merely adequate readers is dreaming. But to misunderstand Cleopatra s dream is to
misunderstand Cleopatra; no serious, earnest interpreter of the part can botch this passage. (An
impromptu recitation by Helen Mirren uploaded to Youtube proves the point: she purrs the lines
warmly, flirtatiously, stuck as she is in the kittenish register that has, by now, become the default
interpretation among Cleopatra s most flagrant misreaders. Mirren refuses to modulate; she doesn t
understand that Cleopatra must mature in the span of these twenty lines or else the play capsizes.)

Should Professional Athletes Be Able to Take Steroids?
Imagine yourself at the Olympics. The moment is finally here to show everything you ve got.
You ve been training for the last four years every day just for this one race. You know you re one

runners have passed you. Shortly after, you realize all the runners who have beaten you have been

other athletes hadn t taken steroids. There are many severe effects on athletes who take steroids, so
steroids should be unacceptable in all areas of athletics, most especially in professional sports.

Analysis Of Contractarianism And Animal Rights Essay
Mark Rowlands in his article Contractarianism and Animal Rights focuses on John Rawl s social
contract argument. Rowlands writes that Rawls liberal egalitarian version of contractarianism is
more than capable of assigning a direct moral status to non human animals. This essay will set out
Rowlands views with reference to philosophers and academics writing about the rights of non
human animals. Contractarianism is generally thought a theory that alleges only individuals who
can understand and choose to take part in an agreement or social contractcan have moral rights
(Rowlands, 1997). As Tom Regan points out animals, since they cannot understand contracts,
obviously cannot sign; and since they cannot sign, they have no rights (Regan, 2009, p.843).
In, what Rowlands calls, the conceptual heart of Rawls contractarianism, is his idea of an original
position and a veil of ignorance . Rawls describes the original position as the appropriate initial
status quo which ensures that the fundamental agreements reached in it are fair (Rawls, 1973, p.17)
A person finds themselves in the original position under a veil of ignorance deprived of certain
facts about themselves, for example, their conception of good and their socio economic position in
society. All occupants of the original position are conceived of as rational . Rowlands doesn t insist
that all non human animals are classified as rational agents, but rather that there is nothing in
Rawls contractarianism that

The people of Thebes are very sick, their animals are sick, and unborn babies die.
The message about the plague that Creon brings is that they must find the person who killed King

The people think that Oedipus is a strong and clever leader who can save their city from the terrible

Why Americans Hate Soccer Research Paper
Why Americans Hate Soccer Why do Americans hate soccer? Is it because were are not the best
at it? There are many factors. Soccer has had a rough time in the United States. People didn t
really see it as a major sport until 1994 when the USA hosted the FIFA World Cup. Befor this,
there wasn t a even a professional league. With the terms of hosting, the United Stateshad to form a
league. In 1993, Major League Soccer was formed. It took a few years to catch on, but is now at an
all time high. To find the real core of the hatred, we need to look back at the history of sports and
the role soccer has played in the United States.
Soccer was brought to the United States around the 1850s. I was first played in New Orleans by
English, German, Scottish and Irish settlers seeking a better life and more opportunity in the
United States. Back then, soccer was played with 25 players a side. In current rules, you get 11
players a side (including a goalkeeper). In 1884, soccer in the United States took a major step in the
founding of the American Football Association. As you can see, they didn t call it soccer back
then. They only started calling it soccer around the 1920s. This was because it was often confused

Caravaggio s Judith And Holofernes And Artemisia Gentileschi
The paintings Caravaggio s Judith and Holofernes and Artemisia Gentileschi s Judith Decapitating
Holofernes (c.1620) were pieces that were painted during the Baroque art period. They are both
based on the biblical story about Judith beheading Holofernes.
To begin with, the painting by Caravaggio shows Judith recoiling from the gruesome task she is
performing. This is emphasized by how delicate she seems to be handling Holofernes. A woman
stands next to her in the painting simply staring in astonishment. However, in the painting by
Gentileschi, Judith is clearly depicted as a very strong women working together with another
women assisting her with the task; their gazes are focused and their grips firm.
Moreover, in Caravaggio piece, Judith s upper body and face are the first things we see in this
painting due to the lightness of her skin compared to the dark shadows in the ... Show more content

recalls the sense of betrayal she felt when she realized her female chaperone had conspired with
Tassi and arranged to leave the two alone. The memory of this event likely made Artemisia engage
with the story of Judith. What is especially significant is Artemisia s portrayal of her chaperone as
youthful, strong and fully engaged in the assisting Judith, in striking contrast to the chaperone who
purposefully abandoned Artemisia in her hour of need. Meanwhile, Caravaggio s instable life is
portrayed through the painting as it reflects death which is something he had gone through

The Properties Of Solid Sorbents Relevant On The...
Sorbent characteristics
This chapter discusses the properties of solid sorbents relevant to the performance and cost of CO2
capture. The chapter begins with a discussion of the solid sorbent properties that are important for
CO2 capture. The discussion then broadens to include a range of factors which affect the CO2
capture process, such as the interactions between the solid sorbent and other flue gas components,
sorbent attrition and degradation, and the influence of reaction kinetics. The chapter concludes with
a summary of ?best estimate? characteristics of the specific solid sorbents analyzed in this work.
Solid sorbent properties
Solid sorbents are small porous particles which can selectively adsorb or complex with gaseous
chemical species (in this case, CO2), thereby removing the species from a gas mixture. Molecules
of CO2 may be held loosely by weak intermolecular forces termed ?physiosorption? or strongly via
covalent bonding, termed ?chemisorption.? Generally, physiosorption occurs when the heat of
adsorption is greater than approximately 40 kJ/mol of CO2 (i.e. 20 to 40 kJ/mol), while
chemisorption occurs with the heats of adsorption less than 60 kJ/mole (Yang, 2003). These are
rules of thumb, however, and exceptions do exist. For instance, the heat of physiosorption of
CO2 in some zeolites has been reported to be as low as 210 kJ/mol CO2 (Shen, et al., 2000), with
heats of chemisorption known to extend from as low as 62 kJ/mol to over 420 kJ/mol. The heat

Analysis Of My Room Belongs To An Alien
Verbal Visual Essay Speak
My room belongs to an alien. (15)
This quote near the beginning of the book is in the context of Melinda describing her room. She
says this because of how it is decorated very strangely. The way she words her sentence implies
that she doesn t know who she was when she was younger, that she is alien . Because of this and
the fact she has no friends, she can t relate to anyone, not even her past self. This causes her to be
pushed deeper into her depression.
2) It looks like my mouth belongs to someone else, someone I don t even know. (17)
This quote relates to the last, but is different because insteading of talking about her past self, she

The Secession In Michigan
Secession in Michigan Yooperland, Da U.P., and Yoopsconsin, are just some of the names that
the residents of Michigan s Upper Peninsula refer to as home. There have been many
conversations throughout the years about the secession between the Yoopers in the U.P. and the
Trolls down in Da Mitten. Dating back as far as 1836, a time when Michigan had won the U.P.
by losing the Toledo Strip in the Toledo War, the talk of secession is nothing new. To change an
economic lifestyle would be difficult, but the rewards and benefits could be astonishing. A vote for
secession would help the Upper Peninsula become a free and independent state in our country. With

In 1975, a little over a century since the Toledo war was over, Dominic Jacobetti of Marquette
County reopened the idea of Michigan secession after discussing the decline of state aid money
for schools. With that in mind, the severance tax that would also be put on mines in the U.P.,
causes fear in Marquette County because it could result in the loss of money given to schools
and municipalities from Kennecott Eagle Co. mine in Michigamme (Ellison). I ve heard about
that U.P. get most of its money for schools from downstate to help support the big names like
NMU or MTU. If the U.P. were to secede, what happens to these schools? How will we be able to

The Theory Of Development Concepts And Applications By...
Sadly, my early years of child rearing were not of heavy observation on my part! Our home was
one of somewhat traditional roles in terms of family dynamic. I worked long hours away from
the home and didn t have the one on one contact with our children that my wife had, and enjoyed.
I of course got the play by play from her, but in hind sight, I was deprived of so many beautiful
observations. Our text Theories of Development Concepts and Applications by William Crain
outlines human development by many theorists. A few of those are John Bowlby, Mary D.S.
Ainsworth, and Erik H. Erikson. I couldn t help but reminisce about the stages of my own
children s growth while reading the work of Bowlby, Ainsworth and Erikson. I remember having
my young children with me when ever it was possible, but what attachments to them might I
have missed while I was busy working or did I miss any at all? Bowlby s work on attachment
gives a compelling argument as to the importance of attachment in the first 6 months of a Childs
life. Ainsworth s work is focused on the idea of a child using the parent as a base for further
exploration of their surroundings. Erikson s work on the other hand considers the role of society
and culture in development. In reading these works, the theories appear to be easily stitched
together to give an all encompassing view of human development over an entire life time and how
our attachment to our parents is critical to that development. Let s further

The Ming Dynasty Essay
The Ming Dynasty
The Chinese Empire was large and controlled most of Asia at one point in time. One of the
dynasties that ruled the empire was the Ming Family. Ruling from 1368 1644, almost three hundred
years, the Ming Dynasty impacted Chinese history very much. The purpose of this paper is to tell
the history of the Ming Dynasty s impact on the Chinese Empire, and to explain why the Chinese
Empire was in fact an empire. The Ming Dynasty had created an empire. They had the government,
the military, and the economic system to prove it. At different points in time, The Chinese Empire
was the greatest in the world, for trade, military, and other key factors in a society. The main reason

was also important. He had discarded the belief that
Military life was inferior and developed a militant class. This class ranked higher than any civil
servant. Hongwu s name is also known to mean vast military, and reflects the increase of the
military. At the height of the Ming Dynasty were the Maritime Expansion, Agricultural
Revolution and the Commercial Revolution. Although the agricultural and commercial
revolutions had impact on the Chinese Empire, the Maritime expansion seemed to give China
more power as an empire . The Maritime Expansion was under the third ruler Yung lo (1403
1424). Yung lo began to sponsor Naval expansion between 1405 and continued under the leaders
who followed him, Hung His (1425) and Hsuan Le (1426 1435). There are many reasons for the
Naval expansion but the Yung lo emperor expanded trade with other countries and imported exotic
goods. Expedition went to East Asia and Southeast to Asia, Southern India, Ceylon, the Persian
Gulf and Africa. Trading from Africa to Southeast Asia made China the world s greatest
commercial Naval power in the world at the time. A great accomplishment of the Ming Dynasty
was the building of the Great Wall. Even though the Great Wall had been started earlier most of
what is seen was either built or repaired by the Ming(see map with Great Wall). The

How To: Hadoop and Mark logic
Before talking about Hadoop and Mark Logic, it is very important to understand Big Data. What is
big data, what s the consequence and how it is linked with Hadoop and Mark Logic? Large set of
data, unstructured and structured which is created everyday over the internet via different
devices is known as Big Data . For example: if the user has 7 accounts and creates multiple files in
each account he has already created large set of data of his own Big Data is generally described in
terms of the three Vs:
1. Volume
2. Velocity
3. Variety With all the collection of large datasets with huge volume, high velocity and variety of
data, business and organization were at risk to handle their data privacy and security beyond their
capacity. Due to the increase in new technology, business, communication, device, big scale of
data was produced. About 90% data in today s world was just created in last two years alone,
without counting those data that has been created previously. The information retained in those
data was a big risk to many organizations as the current technology was managing the data with
traditional approach, which consisted of user, a centralized system and relational data base. This
style had various drawbacks together along with two key problems: less storage capacity and slow
data processing.
To overcome the problem, Doug Cutting

Charles Baudelaire And John Wieners
A Comparison Between the Responses of Charles Baudelaire and John Wieners to
Modernization In order to compare the poetry of Charles Baudelaire and John Wieners within
the context of modernity, one must recognize the discrepancy between their time periods.
Baudelaire was born in Paris in 1821, and much of his work was published after the February
Revolution of 1848. John Wieners, on the other hand, was born in 1934 67 years after Baudelaire
s death near Boston, Massachusetts. Both poets explored sexual and drug related themes that
opposed the conventions of their society. However, poets played a larger role in Baudelaire s
modern society than in Wieners s. People in Baudelaire s modern society read for entertainment as
well as instruction, so therefore, as a source of this entertainment, the poet and his contemporaries
would naturally inhabit the mainstream, insofar as their occupation if not their fame. John Wieners,
on the other hand, was pushed into the fringe of his society s consciousness. Part of this push
likely had to do with new and less demanding forms of entertainment such as television and record
players. However, the much more likely caused by the subject matter of his poems. It is true that
like Baudelaire, John Wieners challenged societal norms, but unlike Baudelaire, his occupation as a
poet drew little attention to the skill so clearly evident within his poems. Both poets describe the
modern urban landscape they inhabit within their poems. For example,

Those people are right! Some people believe that if someone never got in a fight with another
person, he or she would be ok. Those people are wrong! Loving and fighting are what keep a
person sane. They could be the things to keep a person alive. Having a good and healthy
relationship is so important, because it can be what keeps a person living. If someone was never

Having a close relationship with friends give people someone to talk to about things they would
never say to their parents. It gives those people a chance to learn to accept others opposite opinions
and work together. The importance of having good business relationships is great for someone who
is learning how to cooperate with someone he or she does not necessarily like. It gives that
person a chance to learn to accept others opposite opinions and to work together. Finally, the
importance of a good parent relationship should not have to be explained. Parents must have a
good relationship with their child, because it will keep the child on course. Parents can teach the
child right from wrong and learn from their child s body language how he feels. One of the
biggest mistakes all these relationships have in common is lying to the person with whom they are
forming the relationships. After someone lies to the other person in the relation, he or she tends to
lose respect the person had in their relation. That person will think less about the advice given
from the other person. This is bad for all of the relationships. It breaks trust between friends,
parents, and business partners. Another big error is telling a person not to do something, because it
only makes that person want to do it more. Instead, the person saying no should tell the child,
friend, or business partner why, and, give facts to support that reasoning. Simply

The Ideologies Put Forth By Paulo Freire
The ideologies put forth by Paulo Freire including liberation education, pedagogy of the oppressed,
inequality and pedagogy of possibility gives educators hope. These are the educators who are
dedicated to bring about positive change in education and by extension society. Freire s contribution
to educationthrough his research and theories resonates with Trinbagonian educators as it
encompasses issues of slavery, colonialism, post colonialism social mobility and democracy.
Furthermore, Freire s ontology is grounded in comprehensive philosophical underpinnings
including that of John Dewey and Jean Piaget. Their contributions have shaped education
internationally as well as locally. Thus, the authors critique of Freire s work in an attempt to
restructure his theories is a worthwhile analysis and allows for self reflection, critical thinking and
the assurance of hope, in that, if education does nothing else, it must inspire hope in reference to
the school of pragmatism. Such an educational philosophy in the words to Giroux (2007), points to
a future in which democratic practices create the conditions for each generation of youth to struggle
anew to sustain the promise of a democracy that has no end point, but that must be continuously
expanded into a world of new possibilities and opportunities for keeping justice and hope alive.

Magwitch s Manipulations of Pip in Great Expectations Essay
Magwitch s Manipulations of Pip in Great Expectations
In Great Expectations, Charles Dickens criticizes the motivation of the lower classes to rise to the
level of wealth and education held by the upper classes by showing the extent to which Pip is
exploited by Magwitch to meet these goals. To meet the expectations of the gentleman, Pip must
leave his family and any possibility of earning his living in order to satisfy the educational and
societal demands of this standard. Magwitch, a social deviant, hopes to prove his viability by
using his unfortunate circumstances to produce a gentleman entirely by his own effort. Magwitch

The title of gentleman therefore denotes one who passes his time idly without and obligation or
responsibility besides remaining socially amiable. The emergence of the middle class in the
nineteenth century allowed people not of noble birth to enter the ranks of gentility. Becoming an
educated and morally noble gentleman had come within the reach of those who had previously
been excluded. Industry made it possible for someone of the working class to elevate his social
position through his own efforts. This new definition of the gentleman had a great appeal among
the emerging middle class because high birth, the traditional passport to recognition as a gentleman,
could be side stepped at least in theory (Platz 152). This new opportunity created a split between the
traditional upper classes and the newly established English bourgeoisie. Dickens recognized the
paradoxical aspiration toward the position of an idle gentleman through labor. Obtaining the
appearance of a gentleman became more important than the means by which the facade is
constructed. Platz writes, Dickens Great Expectations can be interpreted as an attempt to dismantle
both the legitimacy and symbolic authority of the gentleman (162). Pip deceives himself by

Christian Worldview From Other Worldviews

have so much respect for your desire to seek truth. Although there are many things that separate the
Christian worldview from other worldviews, I will only discuss the three that I believe are the
most important. Specifically, the belief in grace rather than works as the means for salvation, the
belief in the hypostatic union, and the belief in the resurrection of JesusChrist. I know some of
these terms are confusing, so I will be sure to clarify and explain them as I progress in my
elucidation. I would like to let you know that if you have any questions once you have finished

The second manifestation of God s grace is his saving grace. This is the unearned favor that God
gives to you for your regeneration and sanctification. It is the grace that allows you to be made
new and to be set apart as holy. Romans 3:10 11 tells us that no one is holy and no one seeks for
God. It is because of this that we desperately need saving grace. The idea of saving grace is unique
to Christianity because in no other worldview do we see the Creator of the universe stepping in
to do the work for us. Our saving grace is Christ himself. Because he is fully God and fully man,
he is the only one who is able to step down and act as the propitiation for our mistakes (Romans
3:23 24). Not only do we receive salvation by grace and not through works, but our salvation is
achieved by grace through faith. To explain further, we receive the gift of God s grace on account
of faith in Jesus Christ. We are not to simply believe that Jesus exists; even the demons believe that
(James 2:19). However, we are to trust in Jesus Christ as a living person for forgiveness of sins and
for eternal life. There is an aspect of dependence, trust, and investment that is involved in the idea of
grace through faith. In addition, one of the most important things that sets Christianity apart from
other worldviews is the belief in the hypostatic union. This belief states that within Christ, there are
two natures that maintain their own properties while uniting into one person. These

Radio And Optical Wireless Communication
This collaborative effort outlines a comprehensive framework to apply novel radio and optical
wireless communications with channel coding to develop energy efficient and secure links for the
problem of limited spectrum resource in future wireless applications. In particular, the project aims
to study the fundamental properties and develop practical solutions for a hybrid RF/optical system
that combines energy efficient ultra widebandarchitectures with secure and RF spectrum saving
optical technology.
Future mobile applications demand novel wireless communication technologies to address the new
challenges associated with the shortage of radio spectrum [1 5], the need for low power radio
architectures
[6 9], and secure communication ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The key idea is to combine the advantages of localized short range
UWB IR and longer range optical wireless communication, and use jointly optimized LDPC
coding to improve the link reliability with low complexity encoder and decoder circuits. To
achieve these goals, as illustrated in Fig. 1, the proposed research will also focus on designing the
UWB/optical relaying circuits and hybrid communication protocol, exploiting network diversity and
coding for hybrid channels, and investigating low complexity LDPC encoder/decoder circuits with
soft information for UWB IR.
The advantages of UWB IR and optical communication compensate each other s shortcomings
very well, as illustrated in Fig 1. For example, UWB IR is power efficient; however, to achieve
ultra low power, the transmission distance of UWB must be short (sometimes less than 1 meter).
When a longer range is demanded, the power consumption of the UWB transceiver increases
dramatically since the received power varies as dв€’О
і, where d is the transmission distance and Оі
is the path loss exponent [36 38]. In other words, increasing RF transmission distance will
significantly shorten the battery lifetime. This power/distance trade off of UWB can be alleviated
by employing a UWB/optical relaying device. The stationary relaying devices use dedicated power
lines so the battery powered UWB terminals can save

Research in Decision Making
TOPIC 1 DISCUSSION
Why research is considered essential in the decision making function of management.
Research may be defined as a systematic inquiry whose objective is to provide the information
that will allow managerial problems to be solved. It is also seen as an activity that is often
carried out by most people, knowingly or unknowingly in the course of their daily lives. It is a
systematic inquiry whose objective is to provide the information that will allow managerial
problems to be solved. It is another word for gathering information. The more information we

The research mechanism enables the organization to better understand and comprehend the market,
its customers and competitors. The organization knows exactly what their customers need and
desire, and takes the appropriate steps to deliver that to them. Also, the company can classify
customers on the basis of demographics, such as gender, age, income of the household and
educational levels. Once the company determines its customers primary demographic group, it
takes steps to service them better. Through research, competitors moves and strategies are
highlighted, and the company can then be proactive to preempt them.
Research helps the organization fix problems and cash in on the strengths. Research mitigates
business risks and can help increase demand and sales. Research can primarily be conducted to
gauge the customers perceptions on a specific product. Research is useful in understanding the
broad market and industry situation. Research arms you from wrong information and save time and
money, organization is able to decide on what is required and through this, management is able to
save on cost.
The company can understand what its customers actually want and can deliver that product to
them. When the company is planning to diversify its product range, it will know at the very outset,
through the research mechanism, whether or not there is a demand for such a product. When the
company knows

Adolescents Identity In The Lost Boys By Janice Crowds
Adolescents, is a crucial time period for identity development, in young adults. Several physical
and mental changes take place during this time period. These changes can be a struggle for some
adolescents to handle by themselves. Adolescents begin to look more towards their peer
relationships to gain a better understanding of themselves. Adolescents start to spend more of their
free time with their friends, compared to the time they spend with their parents. Adolescents will
look to gain friends and become integrated into a clique, and eventually be put into a particular

A crowd can be described as a large group of adolescents, who may or may not be friends, who
can be easily identified by their interests, attitudes, abilities, or personal characteristics that they
have in common (Brown Lohr, 1987). Crowds help the adolescent to identify similarities and
differences between themselves and other peers. This in turn creates a hierarchy based on
characteristics of the different crowds. The crowd itself helps shape the adolescents identity,
because the adolescent will conform to the crowd norms. A crowd norm is a common rule of
thought, action, or characteristic on any given topic associated with the crowd itself. When a
crowd norm is broken, there are non severe consequences that occur from other members of the
same crowd. For example Goths typically wear black or dark clothing. If a Goth walks into class
wearing a bright pink shirt and a white skirt, other members of the crowd will ridicule her for the
outfit. The Goth broke the crowd norm by wearing the pink shirt and white skirt, and the
consequences were that other members of the group ridiculed her. These consequences keep the
adolescent in check with the crowd norms. Therefore, the consequences for breaking crowd norms
helps shape the adolescents identity by shaping how the adolescent views certain issues as well as

vary by state, but most states include rape (forced and statutory), sexual assault or battery, child

and attempts to commit any of these crimes. The history of sex offenders has been active since the

constantly coming up missing and he also explains that sex crimelaws have existed as far back as
biblical times with a number of penalties ranging from fines to death for various sexual acts

The unanimous answer on how to solve these mysteries is to get out of the maze so that they can

inside. The next day Max met Zed so that he could explain what he had done. Zed explained that
he was able to walk through the wall because he believed in his ability to do so in the same way
Max believed he could escape his way. Big was a little different, he was reserved and had his
own opinions and views regarding the maze. It was Big s consistency and preparation that made
Big s beliefs equal to that of Max and Zed s. One day, after Big had gotten as strong as he
thought he needed to be, he walked over to a wall, punched a hole in it and walked out of the
maze. The years of hard work had finally paid off and Big too was now free from the maze. I
believe that throughout this book Malhotra presents four very distinctive points. The first point
is that when you feel trapped in the maze of life, you can plan and escape it like Max. The
second point is that if you are not an action oriented person like Max then you can outthink the

Optometrist Application Narrative
Many children and adults are unsure about going to the eye doctor. The word optometrist alone is
difficult to say, but for many the fear may lie in the uncertainty of how the doctor can look beyond
the general outside of the eye and tell exactly what is making vision difficult or the cause of pain. I
began understanding this at an early age.
My interest in the anatomy of the eye began when I was a small child. I was 8 years old when
my father experienced retinal detachment in the first eye. I didn t understand a whole lot of what
was happening when my brother and I were whisked up and on a plane to a hospital in Portland for
surgery. During the long wait, my mother began describing what was happening in my father s eye.

This helped me solidify my interest in helping people with their vision and eye care. I was able
to pick up on how an optometrist goes about his day to day activities and talked with a few of
them about the business side of their practice. Recently, before applying to schools, I was hired at a
local optometry office close to Boise State. The job as a pre tester has allowed me to be trained
in using a tonometer, auto refractor, visual field machine, optomap, and the OCT machine. I
have had a vast experience working in the private practice and really can see myself in an office
similar to this one. The job has been all I have expected and ensured my career choice for
serving people in vision health care and becoming an optometrist. Shadowing and working as a
pre tester have given me first hand exposure to the field of optometry. From the first time I
looked through a slit lamp I knew I was on track to doing something I would be devoted to.
Experiencing different types of practices allowed me to think about what type of practice I want
to work in when I am older. I can envision myself working in a private practice with fellow

Mise-En-Scene, Editing And Cinematographic Elements In The...
The Godfather , a crime noir film produced in 1972, is about an aged patriarch of a famous mafia
dynasty that transfers control of his business to his disinclined son. It was directed by Francis
Ford Cappola and stars actors such as Al Pacino and Marlon Brando. The film s numerous
achievements, specifically in the opening sequence, stem from the exemplary utilization and
integration of misГ© en scene, editing, and cinematographic elements. Mise en scene is a key
element in the representation of a character. For example, the film begins with a slow jazz
soundtrack, a characteristic of thriller films during the 1970 s. Then a plain black background
streches across the screen, setting the stage for what is about to appear in front of us. Black... Show

This scene is edited with a very slow pace that creates a sense of calm and suggests the control
that Don Corleone has over the situation. The sequence begins with a close up on Amerigo
Bonasera as he stares in the camera while it zooms out, telling the audience about his daughter s
rape. William Reynolds and Peter Zinner, the lead editors of the film, used this shot, that spans
the next three minutes of the film, to add a sense of insecurity and rising tension. It also is used
to reveal Bonasera is talking to a mysterious figure disguised by the shadows and that three other
men are present, but without giving the setting of the scene or who these men are. Then, they
break the three minute shot by giving the audience their first glance at the mysterious figure in
the shadows. They cut to a medium shot of Don Corleone, the leader of this organized crime
dynasty, finally revealing this shadowy figure to the audience, relieving them of some tension.
The camera shifts location again in order to reveal the scene, something like an establishing shot.
Here, they reveal four male characters, all dressed in suits, and the only lights coming from the
slats in the blinds and the sole artificial light on the right side of the room. Don Corleone is also
placed in the center of this shot with every other character facing him, giving him a sense of power.
Next, they cut to a medium shot of the godfather sitting

Friends Essay
Friends Essay by Mitchell Scott
Topic: What friendship means to me
Friendship is a relationship that is needed in a society of ours. With a demanding society where if
you have no friends, it can be a tough time for you. Friendship is much more than just hanging
around with your mates; it allows living to be much more comfortable.
Friendship is extremely underrated in a society of ours; we rely on our friends to have good
times. Sometimes you can t imagine life without those who care for you so dearly. To me
friendship is something I don t take for granted. Having a good quality conversation with your
friend just about what happened on the weekend, can make you feel better, even seeing your friend
giving you a friendly smile and wink ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ten: The Boat
1. How would you describe Jamie s and Cameron s friendship?
Jamie and Cameron s friendship is healthy; they have regular chats with each other. They both
respect each other. Cameron believes Jamie is not what he is said to be. Although at first, Cameron
is quite careful of Jamie due to the orders voiced by Butcher to steer clear of him. Cameron doesn t
completely trust Jamie with what he says, especially with the vandalism and how he denied those
accusations. When they meet on the wrecked ship, Jamie tells Cameron he is not what Butcher has
said him to be, that all the rumours spread around town are false. When they talk on the boat, Jamie
tells the truth of his story. Jamie has then earned Cameron s trust which strengthens their
relationship. As they both share their problems with the town, there is instantly something in
common between them; helping each other understands what they are both going through. 2.
Cameron is affected by the town s past. How do you know?
Cameron is affected by the town s past, just like Jamie and the other kids in the town. When Jamie
first settles in at Port Barren, he believes he is the only person and is unique to think that this town
has a sense that something wrong. When he is pulled to the boat once again, he

Persuasion By Jane Austen
Jane Austen is perhaps the most popular and widely read English novelists, whose books have
been adapted and parodied countless times. On that note, what is there that I can say which has
not already been said regarding this major author. With this in mind, I will try explore her work in
a manner that would do her justice. For my essay I will look to analyze Austen s heroines and the
Thorpe s that seem to be present in her novels. The heroines of Austen s tales often come to enjoy a
distinctive relationship with the man she eventually marries. This idea differs from novelto novel
but the outcome regularly changes.
Persuasion is one of Austen s last major novels and the foundations for my essay. Persuasion
along with most of Austen s work focuses on marriage plots and happy ever after s. Austen s
own social position in society was a daughter of a clergyman, placing her family comfortably in
middle class English society. Her writing often reflects her views as she satirically criticizes
certain gentry of society as prudent. Evidently this can be seen through her description of the vain
Sir Walter Elliot, who is forced to leave their family home because of his ignorance and imprudent
disregard for wealth. Anne Elliot is our protagonist and heroine of the novel. She has a satirical
sense of humour and is very attentive. Although she may not be one of Austen s most attractive
heroines, once her better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What any of her famed followers could surely gather from the novels in her collection is that the
concept of freedom and selfishness is often associated with the unsympathetic characters. Emma for
instance has been doing just what she liked for most of her existence (1). These traits could also
be adapted to many other characters in the novel, but to emphasize on one individual disdainfully
would be Elizabeth Elliot, Anne s older sister. She is depicted in a very Emma like

A Research On Biometrics And Wireless Technique
Abstract The main purpose of the paper is assembling and developing an iris recognition system in
order to verify uniqueness of the human eye of faculty in a college for attendance management
system. This system based on biometrics and wireless technique solves the problem of spurious
attendance and the trouble of laying the corresponding network. Here biometric recognition is
performed with respect to iris because of its unique biological properties. The iris is unaffected by
external environmental factors and remains stable over time. It can make the college staff
attendance management more easy and effective. This paper includes image acquisition, the
preprocessing system, segmentation, feature extraction and recognition.
Keywords Iris recognition; preprocessing system; segmentation; feature extraction.
I.INTRODUCTION
Traditionally college staff attendance management methods were based on physical key, ID card,
password, etc. In all the above mentioned methods there are high chances of keys getting lost,
forgery or passwords may be forgotten. Due to these shortcomings and requirement for high level of
security have led to development of personal identification on next level using biometrics.
Biometrics refers to metrics related to human characteristics. It is used to identify individuals in a
group that ae under surveillance. Within few seconds biometric recognition is able to compare
thousands of records. Biometrics are of various kinds. Iris, facial, fingerprint

The Water Landslide Research Paper
The Water Slide Slip Have you ever made a bad decision? Chances are, YOU HAVE! Maybe
spilled something on the floor and not cleaned it up, or deciding to kick your cousin in the face
for not leaving the elevator... Anyway, my decision in this story has nothing to do with the
second one. But it is a VERY BAD CHOICE, with a VERY, VERY BAD consequence! It is the
time when I left my spilt water on the floor, and my uncle suffered! Uh oh..... It was getting late,
the sky was dimming, and the fridge and blender were calling my name! That s right, SNACK
TIME!!! I ran out of my room, through the hall, and took a sharp right turn into the kitchen! As
fast as lighting I grabbed my vitamin water out of the fridge, grabbed a cup filled with ice, and
tossed

What Does It Mean To You Essay
Everyone says things come and go so don t stress so much about what you can t control. (Ha that
kind of rhymed)
Anyways ... people never tell you what you ll experience when it does arrive and when it
eventually leaves. What I refer to as it is anything you want to substitute it for. For me it refers to
people.
If you will, join me and i ll take you on a tour of my own personal journey, enjoy :)
I understand what it feels like to have the world against you. Especially to the point where you feel
so trapped and you feel like you re just not good enough. I m pretty sure you ve all heard people say
I can be standing in a room full of people screaming at the top of my lungs and yet nobody seems
to hear me
Sadly, that s how I felt. I m a happy person, I genuinely love being positive. However, for some odd
reason I was drowning in my own sorrow.
In those moments not only was I looking for happiness .... I was looking for REAL happiness
because I wanted my positive attitude back.
I want all my viewers to know it s okay to feel sad but you need to brush it off, get back up and
keep pushing forward. I want you to acknowledge that there s nothing wrong with you. Whatever
loss you ve encountered understand that it s not your fault and something great will come out of it.
I want you to know that you re enough!
Truthfully, everyone will experience the pain of losing someone from time to time. There s just
no way to avoid it. You could say I lost a lot of people that I loved

Criminal Is Not Insane
The Criminal
In this case the killer or suspect states how he took the life of the old man. The suspect explains
how he stalked the old man, each night for a whole week. He also explains how he treated him,
and how he took care of him. Furthermore, he took the police straight to the victim s body. I am the
prosecuting attorney for the state in a case against a man accused of murder. The man is obviously
guilty, but the defense lawyers are going to try to prove, that their client is insane. We are going to
prove that he is not insane, so the suspect will face full consequences of his crime. In the first place,
I want to prove his guilty, and that he is not insane. Because he could distinguish reality from
fantasy. I know this because

The Role Of Prohibition In The 1920 s
Prohibition Alcohol is an integral part of contemporary and 1920 s society . The 1920 s gave way
to the rise of alcohol culture, through the 18th amendment by the outlawing of the sale,
transportation, and manufacturing of alcohol. The subsequent public disobedience of prohibition
led to a corruption of morals, government, and the emergence of organised crime which still
plagues America today. Prohibition was a time that garnered immense crime, poverty and passion.
The demand for alcohol during prohibition allowed gangsters to take over the newly defunct
alcohol industry. This illegal commerce made gangsters and their personnel millionaires, for the
first time the American dream, going from rags to riches, was conceptualized and realized.... Show

The public distrust may have been in part due to the enactment of the Volstead act after the 18th
amendment this meant that the congressmen, state legislators, and the public didn t know what
kind of prohibition they were voting for until the Volstead act was in effect. The public opinion after
prohibition was that prohibition was a good idea but implemented poorly, thereby blaming the
government for the vast negativities of the 18th amendment.

Some of these women grew to be just mothers and wife s, while others became great and important women in society. These issues included racism and women s rights, and people who felt they were discriminated against began to challenge how they were treated. One such group was the National Organization for Women, a group which fought to ensure equality for women. The National Organization for Women had a lasting impact on the Civil Rights Movement, and the history of women. A group of four women who felt like the country needed to change the way women were treated took action and started the National Organization for Women. • 9. The Battle Of The Ottoman Empire For the Ottoman to progress further it needed a new national mantra for legitimacy in order to earn the respects of its subjects, in addition the empire had to mold a new national ethos . As said before that if the Empire was to survive in the modern world, it could no longer be a group of disparate communities held together by force and obedience to a ruling family; it needed a unity of consciousness, which would create an active moral link between rulers and the ruled (Hourani 1991: 52). In this sense the old ways of cementing authority were no longer valid during the mid nineteenth century. Another country that faced this dilemma was Russia, which ironically, was a longtime rival of the Ottoman Empirefor influence in Eastern Europe and the Black Sea, yet just like the Ottoman Empire it also faced the challenges of reconciling the increasingly outdated notion of absolute monarchy to modern civic values. For Russia its answer was to turn to an ideology that would seemingly be a unifying factor for the Slavic peoples in Europe with the Czar as its head similar to that of Pan Islam followed by Abdul Hamid. In the Russian case it would follow three principles: Orthodoxy, Autocracy, and Nationality. This notion was formulated by the late Russian education minister Sergei Uvarov who stated these principles in an 1832 report outlining the future direction of Russian education. Cleopatra s dream has received minimal critical attention in the canon of Shakespearean scholarship and is completely overlooked even among the appreciations I like best (Harold Bloom s and Camille Paglia s), a curious fate for a passage that forces us to reprocess not only the Egyptian queen but her rambling, indigestible play as well. Difficulty isn t the problem; these critics foci are comparatively subtler and practically impervious to unspecialized contemplation. How to explain, then, the agonizing struggle, especially at this crucial moment in the play, evinced by many of the best and most illustrious actresses of stage and screen who have braved the role? Perhaps the critic who expects nay, hopes that our most gifted actors will also necessarily be good or even merely adequate readers is dreaming. But to misunderstand Cleopatra s dream is to misunderstand Cleopatra; no serious, earnest interpreter of the part can botch this passage. (An impromptu recitation by Helen Mirren uploaded to Youtube proves the point: she purrs the lines warmly, flirtatiously, stuck as she is in the kittenish register that has, by now, become the default interpretation among Cleopatra s most flagrant misreaders. Mirren refuses to modulate; she doesn t understand that Cleopatra must mature in the span of these twenty lines or else the play capsizes.) A perfunctory analysis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Analysis Of Contractarianism And Animal Rights Essay Mark Rowlands in his article Contractarianism and Animal Rights focuses on John Rawl s social contract argument. Rowlands writes that Rawls liberal egalitarian version of contractarianism is more than capable of assigning a direct moral status to non human animals. This essay will set out Rowlands views with reference to philosophers and academics writing about the rights of non human animals. Contractarianism is generally thought a theory that alleges only individuals who can understand and choose to take part in an agreement or social contractcan have moral rights (Rowlands, 1997). As Tom Regan points out animals, since they cannot understand contracts, obviously cannot sign; and since they cannot sign, they have no rights (Regan, 2009, p.843). In, what Rowlands calls, the conceptual heart of Rawls contractarianism, is his idea of an original position and a veil of ignorance . Rawls describes the original position as the appropriate initial status quo which ensures that the fundamental agreements reached in it are fair (Rawls, 1973, p.17) A person finds themselves in the original position under a veil of ignorance deprived of certain facts about themselves, for example, their conception of good and their socio economic position in society. All occupants of the original position are conceived of as rational . • 14. Why Americans Hate Soccer Research Paper Why Americans Hate Soccer Why do Americans hate soccer? Is it because were are not the best at it? There are many factors. Soccer has had a rough time in the United States. People didn t really see it as a major sport until 1994 when the USA hosted the FIFA World Cup. Befor this, there wasn t a even a professional league. With the terms of hosting, the United Stateshad to form a league. In 1993, Major League Soccer was formed. It took a few years to catch on, but is now at an all time high. To find the real core of the hatred, we need to look back at the history of sports and the role soccer has played in the United States. Soccer was brought to the United States around the 1850s. I was first played in New Orleans by English, German, Scottish and Irish settlers seeking a better life and more opportunity in the United States. Back then, soccer was played with 25 players a side. In current rules, you get 11 players a side (including a goalkeeper). In 1884, soccer in the United States took a major step in the founding of the American Football Association. Caravaggio s Judith And Holofernes And Artemisia Gentileschi The paintings Caravaggio s Judith and Holofernes and Artemisia Gentileschi s Judith Decapitating Holofernes (c.1620) were pieces that were painted during the Baroque art period. They are both based on the biblical story about Judith beheading Holofernes. To begin with, the painting by Caravaggio shows Judith recoiling from the gruesome task she is performing. This is emphasized by how delicate she seems to be handling Holofernes. A woman stands next to her in the painting simply staring in astonishment. However, in the painting by Gentileschi, Judith is clearly depicted as a very strong women working together with another women assisting her with the task; their gazes are focused and their grips firm. She also recalls the sense of betrayal she felt when she realized her female chaperone had conspired with Tassi and arranged to leave the two alone. What is especially significant is Artemisia s portrayal of her chaperone as youthful, strong and fully engaged in the assisting Judith, in striking contrast to the chaperone who purposefully abandoned Artemisia in her hour of need. • 17. The Properties Of Solid Sorbents Relevant On The... Sorbent characteristics This chapter discusses the properties of solid sorbents relevant to the performance and cost of CO2 capture. The chapter begins with a discussion of the solid sorbent properties that are important for CO2 capture. The discussion then broadens to include a range of factors which affect the CO2 capture process, such as the interactions between the solid sorbent and other flue gas components, sorbent attrition and degradation, and the influence of reaction kinetics. The chapter concludes with a summary of ?best estimate? characteristics of the specific solid sorbents analyzed in this work. Solid sorbent properties Solid sorbents are small porous particles which can selectively adsorb or complex with gaseous chemical species (in this case, CO2), thereby removing the species from a gas mixture. Molecules of CO2 may be held loosely by weak intermolecular forces termed ?physiosorption? or strongly via covalent bonding, termed ?chemisorption.? Generally, physiosorption occurs when the heat of adsorption is greater than approximately 40 kJ/mol of CO2 (i.e. 20 to 40 kJ/mol), while chemisorption occurs with the heats of adsorption less than 60 kJ/mole (Yang, 2003). These are rules of thumb, however, and exceptions do exist. For instance, the heat of physiosorption of CO2 in some zeolites has been reported to be as low as 210 kJ/mol CO2 (Shen, et al., 2000), with heats of chemisorption known to extend from as low as 62 kJ/mol to over 420 kJ/mol. One of the major takeaways was once they were notified of the problems with the well s performance, they did not act on the notifications which resulted in the problems continuing to build up. • 21. Analysis Of My Room Belongs To An Alien Verbal Visual Essay Speak My room belongs to an alien. (15) This quote near the beginning of the book is in the context of Melinda describing her room. She says this because of how it is decorated very strangely. The way she words her sentence implies that she doesn t know who she was when she was younger, that she is alien . Because of this and the fact she has no friends, she can t relate to anyone, not even her past self. This causes her to be pushed deeper into her depression. 2) It looks like my mouth belongs to someone else, someone I don t even know. (17) This quote relates to the last, but is different because insteading of talking about her past self, she is talking about her present self. Because she is comparing herself to a stranger, this shows that she is starting to lose control over her identity. This is important because without connections to anyone else, or herself, she is starting to go into an all time low of her depression. 3) This has meaning. Pain. (65) This quote appears when Mr.Freeman is inspecting Melinda s art. The artwork included a doll with tape over it s mouth. This shows that other people can see that Melinda is in pain, but nobody wants to do anything about it. The reason why this is important it shows that because Melinda is alone, she is in pain. 4) Rudolph sets out on his ice flow, I m independent, he declares (72) This quote happens when Melinda is watching Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer . Our home was one of somewhat traditional roles in terms of family dynamic. I worked long hours away from the home and didn t have the one on one contact with our children that my wife had, and enjoyed. I of course got the play by play from her, but in hind sight, I was deprived of so many beautiful observations. Our text Theories of Development Concepts and Applications by William Crain outlines human development by many theorists. A few of those are John Bowlby, Mary D.S. Ainsworth, and Erik H. Erikson. I couldn t help but reminisce about the stages of my own children s growth while reading the work of Bowlby, Ainsworth and Erikson. I remember having my young children with me when ever it was possible, but what attachments to them might I have missed while I was busy working or did I miss any at all? Bowlby s work on attachment gives a compelling argument as to the importance of attachment in the first 6 months of a Childs life. Ainsworth s work is focused on the idea of a child using the parent as a base for further exploration of their surroundings. Erikson s work on the other hand considers the role of society and culture in development. In reading these works, the theories appear to be easily stitched together to give an all encompassing view of human development over an entire life time and how our attachment to our parents is critical to that development. • 28. Charles Baudelaire And John Wieners A Comparison Between the Responses of Charles Baudelaire and John Wieners to Modernization In order to compare the poetry of Charles Baudelaire and John Wieners within the context of modernity, one must recognize the discrepancy between their time periods. Baudelaire was born in Paris in 1821, and much of his work was published after the February Revolution of 1848. John Wieners, on the other hand, was born in 1934 67 years after Baudelaire s death near Boston, Massachusetts. Both poets explored sexual and drug related themes that opposed the conventions of their society. However, poets played a larger role in Baudelaire s modern society than in Wieners s. People in Baudelaire s modern society read for entertainment as well as instruction, so therefore, as a source of this entertainment, the poet and his contemporaries would naturally inhabit the mainstream, insofar as their occupation if not their fame. John Wieners, on the other hand, was pushed into the fringe of his society s consciousness. Part of this push likely had to do with new and less demanding forms of entertainment such as television and record players. However, the much more likely caused by the subject matter of his poems. It is true that like Baudelaire, John Wieners challenged societal norms, but unlike Baudelaire, his occupation as a poet drew little attention to the skill so clearly evident within his poems. The importance of having good business relationships is great for someone who is learning how to cooperate with someone he or she does not necessarily like. It gives that person a chance to learn to accept others opposite opinions and to work together. Finally, the importance of a good parent relationship should not have to be explained. Parents must have a good relationship with their child, because it will keep the child on course. Parents can teach the child right from wrong and learn from their child s body language how he feels. One of the biggest mistakes all these relationships have in common is lying to the person with whom they are forming the relationships. After someone lies to the other person in the relation, he or she tends to lose respect the person had in their relation. That person will think less about the advice given from the other person. To meet the expectations of the gentleman, Pip must leave his family and any possibility of earning his living in order to satisfy the educational and societal demands of this standard. The title of gentleman therefore denotes one who passes his time idly without and obligation or responsibility besides remaining socially amiable. The emergence of the middle class in the nineteenth century allowed people not of noble birth to enter the ranks of gentility. Becoming an educated and morally noble gentleman had come within the reach of those who had previously been excluded. Industry made it possible for someone of the working class to elevate his social position through his own efforts. This new definition of the gentleman had a great appeal among the emerging middle class because high birth, the traditional passport to recognition as a gentleman, could be side stepped at least in theory (Platz 152). This new opportunity created a split between the traditional upper classes and the newly established English bourgeoisie. Dickens recognized the paradoxical aspiration toward the position of an idle gentleman through labor. Obtaining the appearance of a gentleman became more important than the means by which the facade is constructed. Platz writes, Dickens Great Expectations can be interpreted as an attempt to dismantle both the legitimacy and symbolic authority of the gentleman (162). Pip deceives himself by accepting the old ... The second manifestation of God s grace is his saving grace. This is the unearned favor that God gives to you for your regeneration and sanctification. It is the grace that allows you to be made new and to be set apart as holy. Romans 3:10 11 tells us that no one is holy and no one seeks for God. It is because of this that we desperately need saving grace. The idea of saving grace is unique to Christianity because in no other worldview do we see the Creator of the universe stepping in to do the work for us. Our saving grace is Christ himself. Because he is fully God and fully man, he is the only one who is able to step down and act as the propitiation for our mistakes (Romans 3:23 24). Not only do we receive salvation by grace and not through works, but our salvation is achieved by grace through faith. To explain further, we receive the gift of God s grace on account of faith in Jesus Christ. We are not to simply believe that Jesus exists; even the demons believe that (James 2:19). However, we are to trust in Jesus Christ as a living person for forgiveness of sins and for eternal life. There is an aspect of dependence, trust, and investment that is involved in the idea of grace through faith. To achieve these goals, as illustrated in Fig. 1, the proposed research will also focus on designing the UWB/optical relaying circuits and hybrid communication protocol, exploiting network diversity and coding for hybrid channels, and investigating low complexity LDPC encoder/decoder circuits with soft information for UWB IR. The advantages of UWB IR and optical communication compensate each other s shortcomings very well, as illustrated in Fig 1. For example, UWB IR is power efficient; however, to achieve ultra low power, the transmission distance of UWB must be short (sometimes less than 1 meter). When a longer range is demanded, the power consumption of the UWB transceiver increases dramatically since the received power varies as dв€’О і, where d is the transmission distance and Оі is the path loss exponent [36 38]. Shadowing and working as a pre tester have given me first hand exposure to the field of optometry. From the first time I looked through a slit lamp I knew I was on track to doing something I would be devoted to. Experiencing different types of practices allowed me to think about what type of practice I want to work in when I am older. I can envision myself working in a private practice with fellow optometrists. I would enjoy working at a practice that is multifaceted involving specialty practice in pediatric eye care and sports vision therapy, as well as providing routine exams and ... • 43. Mise-En-Scene, Editing And Cinematographic Elements In The... The Godfather , a crime noir film produced in 1972, is about an aged patriarch of a famous mafia dynasty that transfers control of his business to his disinclined son. It was directed by Francis Ford Cappola and stars actors such as Al Pacino and Marlon Brando. The film s numerous achievements, specifically in the opening sequence, stem from the exemplary utilization and integration of misГ© en scene, editing, and cinematographic elements. Mise en scene is a key element in the representation of a character. For example, the film begins with a slow jazz soundtrack, a characteristic of thriller films during the 1970 s. Then a plain black background streches across the screen, setting the stage for what is about to appear in front of us. Black... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This scene is edited with a very slow pace that creates a sense of calm and suggests the control that Don Corleone has over the situation. The sequence begins with a close up on Amerigo Bonasera as he stares in the camera while it zooms out, telling the audience about his daughter s rape. William Reynolds and Peter Zinner, the lead editors of the film, used this shot, that spans the next three minutes of the film, to add a sense of insecurity and rising tension. It also is used to reveal Bonasera is talking to a mysterious figure disguised by the shadows and that three other men are present, but without giving the setting of the scene or who these men are. Then, they break the three minute shot by giving the audience their first glance at the mysterious figure in the shadows. They cut to a medium shot of Don Corleone, the leader of this organized crime dynasty, finally revealing this shadowy figure to the audience, relieving them of some tension. The camera shifts location again in order to reveal the scene, something like an establishing shot. Here, they reveal four male characters, all dressed in suits, and the only lights coming from the slats in the blinds and the sole artificial light on the right side of the room. Don Corleone is also placed in the center of this shot with every other character facing him, giving him a sense of power. Next, they cut to a medium shot of the godfather sitting ... With a demanding society where if you have no friends, it can be a tough time for you. Friendship is much more than just hanging around with your mates; it allows living to be much more comfortable. Friendship is extremely underrated in a society of ours; we rely on our friends to have good times. Sometimes you can t imagine life without those who care for you so dearly. • 47. Persuasion By Jane Austen Jane Austen is perhaps the most popular and widely read English novelists, whose books have been adapted and parodied countless times. On that note, what is there that I can say which has not already been said regarding this major author. With this in mind, I will try explore her work in a manner that would do her justice. For my essay I will look to analyze Austen s heroines and the Thorpe s that seem to be present in her novels. The heroines of Austen s tales often come to enjoy a distinctive relationship with the man she eventually marries. This idea differs from novelto novel but the outcome regularly changes. Persuasion is one of Austen s last major novels and the foundations for my essay. Persuasion along with most of Austen s work focuses on marriage plots and happy ever after s. Austen s own social position in society was a daughter of a clergyman, placing her family comfortably in middle class English society. Her writing often reflects her views as she satirically criticizes certain gentry of society as prudent. Evidently this can be seen through her description of the vain Sir Walter Elliot, who is forced to leave their family home because of his ignorance and imprudent disregard for wealth. Anne Elliot is our protagonist and heroine of the novel. She has a satirical sense of humour and is very attentive. Although she may not be one of Austen s most attractive heroines, once her better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What any of her famed followers could surely gather from the novels in her collection is that the concept of freedom and selfishness is often associated with the unsympathetic characters. Emma for instance has been doing just what she liked for most of her existence (1). These traits could also be adapted to many other characters in the novel, but to emphasize on one individual disdainfully would be Elizabeth Elliot, Anne s older sister. She is depicted in a very Emma like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. A Research On Biometrics And Wireless Technique Abstract The main purpose of the paper is assembling and developing an iris recognition system in order to verify uniqueness of the human eye of faculty in a college for attendance management system. This system based on biometrics and wireless technique solves the problem of spurious attendance and the trouble of laying the corresponding network. Here biometric recognition is performed with respect to iris because of its unique biological properties. The iris is unaffected by external environmental factors and remains stable over time. It can make the college staff attendance management more easy and effective. This paper includes image acquisition, the preprocessing system, segmentation, feature extraction and recognition. Keywords Iris recognition; preprocessing system; segmentation; feature extraction. I.INTRODUCTION Traditionally college staff attendance management methods were based on physical key, ID card, password, etc. In all the above mentioned methods there are high chances of keys getting lost, forgery or passwords may be forgotten. Due to these shortcomings and requirement for high level of security have led to development of personal identification on next level using biometrics. Biometrics refers to metrics related to human characteristics. It is used to identify individuals in a group that ae under surveillance. Within few seconds biometric recognition is able to compare thousands of records. Biometrics are of various kinds. Iris, facial, fingerprint ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 52. The Role Of Prohibition In The 1920 s Prohibition Alcohol is an integral part of contemporary and 1920 s society . The 1920 s gave way to the rise of alcohol culture, through the 18th amendment by the outlawing of the sale, transportation, and manufacturing of alcohol. The subsequent public disobedience of prohibition led to a corruption of morals, government, and the emergence of organised crime which still plagues America today. Prohibition was a time that garnered immense crime, poverty and passion. The demand for alcohol during prohibition allowed gangsters to take over the newly defunct alcohol industry. This illegal commerce made gangsters and their personnel millionaires, for the first time the American dream, going from rags to riches, was conceptualized and realized....
