Essay On Carbon
Crafting an essay on the subject of carbon can be a challenging endeavor. The difficulty arises
not from a lack of information, but rather from the abundance of it. Carbon, being a
fundamental element, is intertwined with various aspects of science, industry, environmental
issues, and daily life. Navigating through this vast sea of knowledge requires a meticulous
approach to select and organize relevant information coherently.
The challenge intensifies when one delves into the multidimensional nature of carbon.
Addressing its significance in biology, chemistry, physics, and the environment demands a
comprehensive understanding of each facet. Striking a balance between depth and breadth is
essential, ensuring that the essay remains focused while covering the key aspects.
Moreover, tackling the dynamic nature of carbon in the contemporary context involves staying
abreast of the latest research and developments. Carbon's role in climate change, carbon
footprint, and sustainable practices adds a layer of complexity that necessitates a nuanced
discussion.
Crafting a compelling essay on carbon requires not only a strong foundation in scientific
principles but also the ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear and engaging manner.
Transitioning seamlessly between technical details and broader implications is a skill that
enhances the essay's overall quality.
In conclusion, writing an essay on carbon involves navigating a vast landscape of scientific,
environmental, and societal dimensions. It demands a careful selection of information, a
comprehensive understanding of various fields, and the ability to communicate complex ideas
effectively. Despite the challenges, successfully capturing the essence of carbon in an essay can
be a rewarding intellectual exercise.

Categorical Imperative
Categorical Imperative:
Categorical Imperative is an ethical theory, which focuses on decisions that are both
moral and rational. This theory takes universal laws in consideration and focuses on
rules, principles, duty and goodwill. This theory is basically based on our ability to
act as rational human beings.
A good example of Categorical Imperative universal theory is In law a man is guilty
when he violates the rights of others. In ethics he is guilty if he only thinks of doing
so. (Immanuel)
In this case we can apply Categorical Imperative in answering the following
questions:
1)Are the changes to Municipal Police Pensions in Nova Scotia are sin the public
interest?
2)Is the change impacting the right of others?
3)Is the change rational and do the Nova Scotians deserve it?
The changes to Municipal Police Pensions in Nova Scotia are in NOT in the public
interest because this will create an unnecessary burden. If pension plan does change
the people will have to pay more from their income to pay for the Municipal Police
Pension Plan. The citizens were unaware of this sudden change in pension plan and
the public is directly opposing the decision. The general interest of a municipal
government is the happiness of its members but in this case the municipal s decisions
are causing psychological and financial harm to the members. ... Show more content

But on the other hand, prioritizing the rights of the Police Officers and the pension
committee. If we calculate the losses, the general public will face the greater loss.
This is because the general population is greater in size if compared to the
members of the police forces and the pension committee. This change will also
create millions of dollars worth of debt on the government, which will shift on the
general public. This will result in a lower disposable income and decrease the
standard of living among the general public of Nova

Relationship Between Depression And A Shadow
He once told me that depression felt like a shadow. Everywhere he went, it was right
there with him. The difference between depression and a shadow is that when the
sun sinks below the horizon and the stars begin to appear, the shadow loses its fuel
and leaves until dawn. With depression, night only made the shadowstronger. He
described depressionas a broken feeling; he had cracks within himself where sadness
always seemed to settle. He had told me when I first met him that I would never
understand the things that he was feeling.
At the time, our circumstances had us deemed an unconventional couple . He was a
few years older than me, a college boy, and I was just a teenager, working through
high school and the many problems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He had five tattoos in total. My favourite was the bare tree that was sprawled
across the entire side of his abdomen. I also had a fascination with the stain on his
right collarbone. On top of those, he had one located on each arm and one just
below his neck on his back. I loved his tattoos. I loved his scars.
Its sad to think that in some circumstances happiness can be neither pursued or
compromised by oneself. Its sad that the most wonderful people get stuck with the
shittiest of circumstances. I knew that everyday was a struggle, and I knew that
everyday he pushed harder and harder to free himself of the shackles of sadness.
The pills that he took were not his only efforts to overcome this. He had weights on
his shoulder that he removed including a girlfriend of two years that he loved but
was not in love with, and a job that did not challenge him. He had told me that being
with him made him calm, it made him momentarily forget the struggles.
Being with him made me forget my struggles too. Every moment spent with him
was an adventure that I don t think I ll never recover from. He gave me that sort of
feeling that you get when you re swinging and you suddenly have pushed yourself
so high that you think you re flying. When your stomach manages to tie itself into
knots all on its own, but you know you re safe as long as you hold on tight. He
worked so hard to keep me happy and made sure that I always felt safe. I have a fear

Reflection On Being A Dietitian
My journey to become a registered dietitian has been longer and maybe more
complex than the average college students. As a first generation college student I
was faced with many challenges that to this day have shaped me in a unique way as
a dietitian. During this year of my internship, I want to be able to reflect on my own
growth, strengths and weaknesses and be open to feedback to improve as a dietitian.
Strengths
As a future dietitian, I can see in myself that I am passionate to work with he
Hispanic community, utilizing my Spanish speaking skills and working with low
socioeconomic populations. Growing up as low socioeconomic Hispanic community,
I feel that I can relate to my community more than the average health professional. I
love working with children and getting to know them and their family. As a health
professional that will be working with trying to change dietary lifestyles, I think that
having that cultural competency with this particular community will always be
useful. My Spanish skills can help me gain the confidence of some of my patients or
clients and find better ways to assess their needs.
Another one of my current strengths would be that I am very detail oriented and
specially in a clinical setting, can be quite useful. Being able to pay attention to
minor details can be the best way to assess a patient and find the best method of
working with them.
Furthermore, as an undergraduate student, I made sure to explore various areas of

The Meaning Of Normality And Nonconformity
This paper will discuss the definition of normal and how it has changed in time;
one thing that remains the same is how the meaning has revolutionized our present
society. Statisticians and eugenicists Adolphe Quetelet, Sir Francis Galton, Charles
Darwin, and Madame Bovary have provided statistical data to support what the
meaning stands for and how it came into existence whether in agreement or
apprehension on the matter. People with disabilities have been in the mix of
dealing with the controversial laws and theories that have preceded them. In the
book the disability studies reader the different approaches used to create the
meaning of normal as part of the human body are argued in America and Europe.
Historical Perspectives of Disability Evaluation of Normalcy The definition of
normal has changed within time, in the 1800 s it meant perpendicular in relation to
what a carpenter would call it the norm. According to Davis the meaning changed
around the year 1840 1855 to be seen as the notion of the ideal of the human body.
Normal is defined by Davis as nonconformity from the shared, ordinary or customary
ways of living. A Greek artist Zeuxies explains how the ideal body helped shape the
thought of normalcy. In the creation of the nude goddess Aphrodite her ideal body
parts were taken from several different women in Crotona. Her face and breasts as the
combination unattainable standards of the human body. The perception normalcy
was created as unattainable ideal no
The Pros And Cons Of Correctional Facilities
Correctional facility is a term that may be used to refer to a jail, prison, or other
place of incarceration by government officials. They serve to confine and
rehabilitate prisoners and may be classified as minimum, medium, or maximum
security facilities, or contain separate divisions for such categories of prisoners. The
prisoners may participate in educational and vocational programs as well as in paid
industries programs or a work release program. In past, prisons have been viewed as
undesirable, and communities have traditionally lobbied against the placement of
correction facilities in their midst.

The Federal and the states government spent a lot of budget but it is not effective.
Inside correction place only offenders who want to correct themselves, they are
working oneself. The United States provided many department and facilities for
correction so later they will come in society and live life different than before. The
correctional facility for juvenile is very bad condition. In the room, if they play,
they get beaten not only for play but also they make a noise. Everybody gets
beaten up. There is not a single kid who does not get by the guards. The kids have
a few choices and limited boundaries. They have to follow many rules and
regulation. They have to sand on line and they cannot cross it. If they are cross red
line, they would punish by guard or officer. The kids are said that it is not staying
locked up in the cell, they cannot sleep and there is nothing to do. The time passes
so slowly and hours are empty, they just sit doing nothing. Some guess they do not
know that why they are in prison. They are not excited because there is nothing

trouble with the police no more. Most of the kids are very confused about when

Boxing Day Earthquake
In the last decade alone, there have been a number of natural disasters that have
caused substantial physical damage and great emotional distress to the people who
were affected. The aftermath of a natural disaster presents many concerns;
communities become displaced, health risks and complications occur, food scarcity
becomes a result of lost crops, and emotional aftershocks become apparent. Some
Haitian s have yet to recover from the earthquake they experienced in 2010. (Davis,
2015) According to FEMA, the total damage for hurricane Katrinais estimated at $108
billion. (CNN News, 2015), and 86,000 lives were taken in the earthquake of
Pakistan in 2005 (EERI, 2006). In 2008, communities of Sichuan, China, endured a
7.9 magnitude earthquake that collapsed several buildings, killing over 87,000
people. Buildings had very poor infrastructures, which caused the destruction of many
local schools. This contributed to the deaths of thousands of school aged children

230,000 people and leaving over two million people displaced. The epicenter of the
earthquake was located in the Indian Ocean, right off the west coast of Sumatra. The
tectonic plates beneath the ocean floor had been colliding and building up pressure
for hundreds of years, until this day when subduction occurred between the Indian
and the Burma plates. The process of subduction displaced billions of tons of water,
creating waves that traveled towards the shorelines at hundreds of miles per hour and
as high as sixty to one hundred feet. There was absolutely no warning for the people
of Southeast Asia, as the tsunami progressed quite rapidly. (National Geographic,

The Effects Of Coral Bleaching On Coral Reefs
Coral reefs are unique and diverse underwater marine ecosystems that are found in
many parts of the world. Today these tropical reefs suffer a great deal of
environmental stresses and are projected to decline over the next century due to
global warming. In Grottoli s article: The cumulative impact of annual coral
bleaching can turn some coral species winners into losers, she elaborates on the
effects of annual bleaching on three species of coral. Grottoli took three species of
coral such as O. Faveolata, P.asreoides P.divaricata and exposed the treatment groups
to high temperatures of 31.5 В°C for 15 days while control groups remained at a
normal temperature of 30.6 В°C for the same amount of days. After treatment species
were then weighed and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such high level of energy reserve is a good indication of over all health and ability
to acclimate to harsh environments. An endosymbiont level is a measurement of
other beneficial cells that lives on the coral and forms a symbiotic relationship.
Researchers recorded their results and then repeated the experiment on the same
corals a year later to see the effects of repeated high temperatures as a model for
annual coral bleaching as a result of global warming. Upon completion of the
experiment Grottoli and her team of researchers noted, yearly bleaching can
dramatically alter the thermal tolerance of corals (Grottoli s, 2014). Interestingly
enough, while the majority of the species decreased in all variables compared to
controls, P.divaricata increased in energy reserves at about 20 45% higher than
controls after the second treatment. This increase in total energy reserve lead to a
reduction in the susceptibility to coral bleaching for that species. Thus, suggests that
this species of coral can adapt to high temperatures after the first event of bleaching
occurs. Conversely, due to its low energy reserves and its low potential to increase
endosymbiont levels, P.asreoides is not likely acclimatize to higher temperatures thus
resulting in low abundance of the species in future
The Townshend Act
In 1767 saw a series of other measures containing contradictory factors. Charles
Townshend, the British finance minister, has been trying to build a new fiscal
program after repeatedly protesting heavy taxation in the country. With the intention
of tax cuts for the British by imposing a more radical tax on the US trade, Charles
Townshend tightened tariffs and imposed import duties on the colonies when
importing items. British as paper, glass, lead and tea. The Townshend Act was made
with the argument that taxes on imported goods of the colonies were legal, but
domestic taxes (such as stamp duty) were not legal. The Townshend Act was enacted
to increase revenue, in part for the care of colonial officials and the maintenance of
British forces
The Titanic Of A Titanic
The Titanic crashed at 2:20 a.m. on April 15, 1912, the British ocean liner sinks into
the North Atlantic Ocean. The massive ship, which carried 2,200 passengers and
crew, had struck an iceberg two and half hours before sinking. The beginning which
is the construction of the Titanic took 3 years with the help anywhere from three
thousand to fifteen thousand men. The RMS Titanictook sail April 11, 1912 from
Southampton, England in the hopes of New York City. The Titanic s passengers
were divided into three separate classes, determined not only by the price of their
ticket but by wealth and social class, those traveling in first class, the wealthiest
passengers on board, were prominent and those traveling in third class were among
the poorest. The Titanic received several warnings throughout its travel and ignored
because the ship was assumed unsinkable. The Titanic eventually hit an iceberg and
it was warned prior to impact. The ship didn t have much time and couldn t do it
anything about impact. It was much too late to retaliate to the wreckage, the only
thing they could do was hope. Aboard the Titanic only seven hundred and six
passengers survived that fateful night of April 15, 1912. Even though the Titanic was
the biggest ship at its time and thought to be unsinkable, the worst thing possibly
imagined happened and it is with that loss of the ship and lives helpless people, we
today learn that anything can happen at any moment of our lives.

Drug Addiction, Death, And Burroughs Lifestyle
Drug addiction, death, and Burroughs lifestyle are perfect examples of voices from
the fringe. William S. Burroughs was born on February 5, 1914, in St. Louis,
Missouri. Burroughs died in Lawrence, Kansas, on August 2,1997. He supposedly
died from complications of a heart attack, which he incurred the day before. He was
buried in the family plot in Bellefontaine Cemetery, which is located in St. Louis
Missouri. His gravestone read his full name and the engravement American Writer on
it. The grave was placed to the right side of William Seward Burroughs I(1857 1898),
which was Burroughs grandfather. (Burroughs, Bio) Burroughs was the younger of
two sons born to the parents Laura Hammon Lee and Mortimer Perry Burroughs. The
Burroughs family was recognized as wealthy and of English descent in St. Louis,
Missouri. Burroughs grandfather was known for founding the Burroughs Adding
Machine Company. It later became known as the Burroughs Corporation. Burroughs
mother was known as the daughter of a minister. The ministers family was
apparently related to the famous and remarkable Robert E. Lee. Ivy Lee, Burroughs
maternal uncle was an advertising innovator. He later got employment being a
publicist for the famous Rockefellers. Burroughs father ran an antique and gift shop,
known as Cobblestone Gardens with their first location being in St. Louis, Missouri
and then later on in Palm Beach, Florida. Burroughs lived on Pershing Ave. in St, as
a child in St. Louis s Central West End.
Examples Of Pathos In Thank You For Smoking
Thank You for Smoking released in 2006 is based on the book titled the same by
Christopher Buckley in 1994. Thank You for Smoking is a satirical film that
focuses on the hidden agendas and dark truths of Big Tobacco. The film follows
Nick Naylor, head lobbyist for Big Tobacco and his demise through his endorsement
for cigarettes. Throughout the movie Nick Naylor showcases his persuasiveness in
almost every scene. In a scene with his son Joey, Naylor is asked Why is the
American government the best government in the world? After pointing out the bias
within the question Naylor went on to tell his son that the question could be
answered in many ways. Naylor proclaimed, That s the beauty of argument, if you

As you may expect, sitting next to a young boy who has gotten cancer from
smoking Nick is the target amongst the panel and Ron s plan works. However, Nick
is able to quickly turn the tables, he tells the audience that It s in our (Big Tobacco)
best interests to keep Robin alive and smoking, (Reitman, 2006). and he adds that,
The anti smoking people want Robin to die. so that their budget can go up
(Reitman, 2006). Nick ends the scene by telling the audience that Big Tobacco is
launching a 50 million dollar campaign to persuade kids not to smoke and the
crowd goes wild. This is the first time we get to see Nick s skill. Although, he has
not acknowledged the mortality caused by cigarettes he successfully uses pathos
to tap into the audience s emotions. Initially, when the crowds see the sick boy they
look at Naylor to blame because he endorses the deadly sticks, but after Nick
proves to them that it is in Big Tobacco s best interest that Robin lives because they
would lose a customer the audience is swayed and forgets that the reason Robin is
dying is because of Big Tobacco. In this case Naylor uses pathos to redirect the
audience s anger at Ron Goody. During Naylor s interview with Heather Holloway
when asked about why he does his job he confesses that he does it for the mortgage.
Naylor doesn t really pose an argument to her

Big Two Hearted River Modernism Essay
Big Two Hearted River by Ernest Hemingway is a prime example of Modernist
writing. The main character Nick embarks on a quest for self discovery away from
his fragmented society. After the war, Nick returns to a society with a loss of old
values, structures, and beliefs. Therefore, Nick isolates himself in the wilderness
upon returning. The reader experiences Nick s post war mentality, and sees the
struggles Nick faces with anxiety about the unknown. It is clear that Nick s journey
represents the modernist search for individuality in the midst of a broken society.
While alone by the water, Nick witnesses a trout. Although it is just a simple trout,
the way in which it moves provides a strong sense of meaning:
A big trout shot upstream in a long angle, only his shadow marking the angle, then
lost his shadow as he came through the surface of the water, caught the sun, and then,
as he went back into the stream under the surface, his shadow seemed to float down
the stream with the current, unresisting, to his post under the bridge where he
tightened facing up into the current. ( Big Two Hearted River: Part I 1202)
The fact that the trout swims upstream is significant in itself. This type of fish travels
while fighting against current. This scene offers symbolism. The trout represents
Nick, and the water symbolizes society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nick shows that he possesses this trait when he fishes. Nick did not like to fish
with other men on the river. Unless they were part of your party, they spoiled it (
Big Two Hearted River Part II 1209). His desire for self isolation is a trait for the
hero of modernism. Modernist heros are often alienated due to the brokenness of
society. Since Nick wants to fish alone, it shows how he prefers to stray away from
socialization. In addition, being alone grants Nick with a better opportunity to find
himself as an individual in his fragmented
Is The Narrator In The Black Cat Unreliable
In literature, there are many things that create a story, or novel. One of, if not the
most important one, is a point of view/narration. Sometimes in literature, a narrator
can be unreliable. To clarify, the Purdue University College of Liberal Arts defines
an unreliable narrator as a narrator that is not trustworthy, whose rendition of events
must be taken with a grain of salt. In The Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe, the reader
learns that the narratoris unreliable through a change in tone from innocent to a dark
but ironic tone and contradictory word choice.
The tone and word choice of the beginning of the short story lead the reader to think
that the narrator is unreliable due to contradictory statements and shifting tones. At

After he injures his cat Pluto, the narrator exclaims that a spirit of perverseness
overtakes him so that he desires to harm others just for the sake of doing wrong.
He says is a common occurrence. This is ironic because his claim of normal
behavior is most abnormal, and he equates vile and silly actions to be of the same
consequence. If this were true, then there would be more cases of possession of
perverseness in people that lead to vile acts. This shows contradiction because he
says his actions are perverse yet compares it to a common silly act. His previous
excuses for his vile actions include moodiness and alcohol which is a far better
explanation for his actions. Further on he says, .... even beyond the reach of the
infinite mercy of the Most Merciful and Most Terrible God. which shows the use of
theatrics to convey his deadly sin. If he did commit this crime, then he has an
illusion of grandeur because he is saying that he is special in his depravity to the
point of unforgiveness. Yet, from the beginning, he asks the reader to find him sane
as he describes a series of mere household events that includes murdering a cat and
his wife. The hyper focus on his actions suggests that he is mentally unfit to perceive

When the Spanish arrived at the Incan borders in 1528, the Incan empire spanned a
great distance, from Ancs Maya, Blue River, in Southern Columbia to the Maule
River in Chile. The Inca Empire originated from a tribe based in Cuzco under the
rule of Pachacuti, the Incan leader from 1438 to 1471/1472, Cuzco soon ended up
being the capital of the Empire. Pachacuti s would later rule the empire.
The Inca believed that harmony between the relationships of the human being,
nature and gods was truly essential. They had multiple gods, but the main god was
Viracocha, the Inca even considered their emperors as demi gods. They had several

After the Spanish had risen to power and Atahualpa was executed, several of

important information on the background of Al Mushrafi. The Key Capabilities of
the Leader section discusses some of the most important characteristics of Al

of the most important issues addressed in the paper. Introduction The business
environment and the factors that influence its characteristics have determined
companies to develop strategies intended to improve their position on the market and
to increase their number of customers. Most of these companies focus on strategies
based on the products and services they provide, and on the costs associated with
them. Other companies that have important tradition on the market and that have
reached high levels of success focus on complex strategies that also include an
increased interest on the workplace environment in which employees develop their
activity. This is because in order to benefit from strong performance of their
employees, these companies must ensure that they are satisfied and motivated in their
work. However, it is difficult to ensure the motivation of employees. This is one of

The Importance Of Media Influences On Children And
Teens
The media has played a large part in creating the social norms in which many think
of. This is because there are many types of media out there, including
advertisements and television. The media has this type of influence on people of all
ages. The influence can be trying to sell a certain item that children and teens would
want or how to act or look a certain way. For this, this is why the media has a huge
influence on the attitudes and viewpoints of children and teens.
Children and teens now live in a world that is covered with media influences. In the
Australian Nursing Journal article it states, Media sites provide young people with
opportunities to stay connected with friends, family and the world, and develop
technical, creative and social skills (2012, Australian Nursing Journal). Before the
influence of the media there was a time when it was not really something that had a
huge impact on children and teens. But as time has change, children and teens are
engaged with what the media has to provide such as reality TV to using social media.
Children and teens now have the access to every type of media influence and what
affect it can have on them. With the many types of media out there for children and
teen there are concerns from people such as parents and educators on how the media
influence has on them. One of the concerns that parents and educators think that the
media has on children and teens is how children and teens behaviors is influence by

Charles Town, WV Abstract
This paper explores the different aspects of security as it pertains to database
systems. It will provide an overview of security concerns such as access control, user
authentication, reliability and data integrity, as well as how IT professionals might
mitigate the risk associated with each. By examining the methodology by which
attacks on database systems occur, we are able to take a comprehensive approach to
prevent or limit the extent of such attacks and the impact they may have on a DBMS
environment. Finally, we will review industry best practices of the implementation of
security countermeasures.
Introduction Over the past ten to fifteen years, there has been tremendous growth in
the utilization of database systems. One reason for this is because of the growth E
Commerce has experienced. Businesses must have a reliable method of storing a
customer s information safely and efficiently. We often hear of a data breach which
results in customers credit card information being stolen. There are inherent risks
associated with storing financial information in an online capacity, such as hackers
and ill intentioned employees. Given the diverse nature of the interconnectivity of
these systems, there is a

Vanity In The Picture Of Dorian Gray
In my opinion, in Oscar Wilde s novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, published in
1890, an interesting character is the central character, Dorian Gray. At the beginning
of the novel, Dorian appears to be a beautiful, naive and youthful character to readers,
until he is corrupted by vanity and appearences. Dorian makes a fraustian deal. He
will remain youthful and beautiful physically while a potrait painted of him will
reflect his age and his continuous guilty conscience. Dorian thinks that as long as he
remains physically attractive, then his personality will not matter. Throughout the
novel, readers see him bringing suffering, duplicity and death to all members in the
social circles that he switches to. For example, Dorian falls in love with... Show more

Dorian views his apperance as his most adored quality. Once Dorian realizes his
own physically beauty, from Lord Henry, his activity is influenced by appearances
and consequently, by vanity, from his desire for abiding youth at the start of the
novel to his despairing strive to demolish the potrait at the end of the novel. Even
Dorian s efforts at altriuism are compelled are inspired by a wish to ameliorate the
appearance of his soul. Vanity and appearance torment Dorian throughout the novel,
he appears to condemn his actions before he actually perpetrate s them. This is
interesting to readers because it shows that vanity is Dorian s true sin. From this,
we see that consequently, Dorian s plummet from finesse is because of his choice to
accept vanity and new experiences, whether moral or immoral as a merit at the
desire of Lord Henry. his manipulator. In the preface of The Picture of Dorian Gray,
Oscar Wilde states it is the spectator, and not life, that art really mirrors. This
particular feature was interesting and effective because Oscar Wilde provokes
readers to explore the unavoidable aspect of vanity and appearance in our own
relation to art. If people view ourselves in art and perceive art to be beautiful then we

Denny s Analysis
Denny s Diner is an unlikely company to market to Millennials. The twenty four hour
diner that specialized in cheap, simple food is not exactly what comes to mind when
one thinks of the restaurants that the environmentally and health conscious
millennials will choose (Jang et al). But not only are millennials green and healthy,
they are increasingly tach savvy. Recently, social media and meme popularity have
skyrocketed, and Denny s hopes to capitalize on that. A quick scroll through Denny s
Tumblr account reveals eclectic, yet perfectly planned, content that is intended to
raise questions, make the viewer laugh, and, most importantly, gain the loyalty of
young consumers. Denny s Tumblr account not only markets to younger generations

While Celiac s Disease is undoubtedly a real condition, the gluten free diet is a current
fad. Particularly in large, urban areas, the gluten free has sparked an outpouring of
social media posts. By picking up on the popularity of the gluten free diet, Denny s
implies that even if someone is on the diet, he or she can still eat there. As a cheap,
quick diner, the average consumer would not assume that Denny s has many gluten
free options. However, by portraying this information through a humorous response,
Denny s proves that it is a restaurant where trendy, health conscious people can eat.
But beyond that, by responding to such an obscure question from a blogger and
using a question about a girlfriend to advertise their gluten free options, Denny s
subtly hints at how ridiculous they think the gluten free fad is. With millennials
obsessed with the free from movement, such as food free from gluten, soy, and dairy,
Denny s has to point out that while gf typically means girlfriend in short hand, it
now means gluten free to trendy millennials (Carr, Stop the Free From Fad ).
Through this post, Denny s demonstrates how ridiculous it is that gf refers to gluten
free instead of girlfriend. Ultimately, this post allows Denny s to relate

Although the company is known for their coffee, they also drive a great portion of
their revenue from baked good sales, which differs greatly from the Keurig Green
Mountain strategy. Dunkin does compete against Dunkin intensely in the New
England market, as both companies were founded and based in the area.
B. Value Chain Analysis The Keurig Green Mountain Inc. value chain has seven main
steps.
Step 1. Cultivation
Farm management techniques can affect coffee cultivation. Water irrigation isn t
used often in the coffee cultivation because much of the water needed for coffee
growing comes from rainfall. Step 2.Packaging Shipping After coffee is harvested,
it must be dried, packaged in sacks, and transported. During this stage, energy is
sued for drying, storing, and mechanically hulling the coffee beans. This stage of
the value chain also includes transportation of green coffee beans to facilities. Step
3.Processing Once green coffee beans arrive at facilities, they are roasted and
grinded for packaging. There is an established infrastructure to track the energy use
of the roasting operations in a new way, providing data that is more useful for
managing energy efficiency. Step 4.Packaging After the coffee is roasted it is
packaged. This stage of the value chain includes the physical packaging of the roasted
coffee as well as the upstream material requirements for the packaging itself. Step
5.Distribution After packaging, coffee is

My Grandma Of The Old Folks Home
In 2011, I went to visit my grandma Camille in the old folks home. At that time she
was 82, and I was 17, and I was about to enter into my senior year of high school.
This was the last time I ever saw her. She had been living there for about a year and
a half, and I had been to see her a lot. But it was becoming a bit sadder with each
visit, partially because the place was full of people who were near the last stages
of their life. Even worse, with each visit I saw that my grandma health was in
decline and I didn t know how the handle that. When I saw her on this day, she was
very excited because they was having a gathering in the dining hall to celebrate the
4th of July. They were going the have ice cream along with some music. While I
was not very excited to tag along with Grandma to a 4th of July celebration when it
was not really the 4th, I knew she didn t want the miss the event so I said, Let s go!
My grandmother and I rolled over, and she introduced me to everyone as we
passed by saying, This is my granddaughter, and she going to be a senior in high

the introductions had ended and we waited for the festivities to begin, I became one

Why you should highly consider motorcycle riding for a hobby
I m sure by now at some point in your life you have seen a motorcycle go by and
have thought to yourself what would that be like to drive. Instead of wasting time
thinking about it you can do something about it and even get your license without
owning a motorcycle. You will not get the same experience out of buying a video

games you buy. 1000usd can easily buy yourself a second hand motorcycle, and just

but don t only base your decision to try this hobby on the gas savings alone think of
the many other great reasons to give it a try.
Many times people never get past the safety or fear aspect of trying motorcycle
riding. A great way to get past the fear is to take a training course You will learn to
ride using our motorcycles on a safe closed circuit course. Our motorcycles and
scooters are small and lightweight, so you can concentrate on learning the skills of
safe riding (motorcycle training academy, N.D. sec. 1.6). After you complete a
training coarse maybe you are still worried about a crash or the other drivers out
there, even if you are no longer afraid yourself of driving a motorcycle. I believe
any responsible person who has been trained to drive a motorcycle safely need not
worry. The statistics although not perfect might make you reconsider In 2005, the
motorcycle fatality rate was 73 per 100,000 registered motorcycles which is a
.00073% risk of fatality from driving a motorcycle (motorcycle accident website,
N.D. sec. 10.1). If that s not enough reason just think you can reduce that .00073%

Night Mail Movie Analysis
This research paper is an analysis of the form and content of the Documentary
Film Night Mail (1936) directed by Harry Watt and Basil Wright, written by W.H.
Auden, narrated by John Grierson, and Music by Benjamin Britten. I will also go
over the reaction by critics and others to the film when it first appeared. An
oversimplification of this movie is to say it is about normal people doing their
job, which would be picking up and delivering mail overnight. Beneath what would
seem to most people as a normal job from today s standards, is that the film dives
into what it was like for the working class at the General Post Office. This
documentary shows us the pride that was once had in the industry of postal service,
which has become simplified with technology such as drone deliverer and air/sea
travel. During the 1930 s few people understood what it took for mail to be
delivered on time, countless people had to work many late hours into the night, so
our letters could be received in a timely fashion. Night Mailshows us the technology
and steps by which it took many people working together. We will never forget the
old Britain that once was because of films like this. Let us start with one of the main
subjects of this documentary which would be the train involved and the route taken.
London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) mail train from London to Scotland

Analysis Of Des Cannibales By Montaigne
This extract from Montaigne s Des Cannibales is found near the beginning of the
essay. It is pivotal in setting the precedent for the rest of the essay since it establishes
how Montaigne came to his viewpoints on the TupinambГЎ since they are different
to those held by many of his contemporaries. When Montaigne wrote, people were
only beginning to learn about other areas of the world. People on the whole had not
travelled and so held ethnocentric views regarding culture. They failed to understand
the people of the New World, thus labeled them as sauvage and barbare something
which Montaigne challenges in this essay, and specifically sets out in this extract.
In the first part of this extract, Montaigne considers how one can obtain the most
reliable information on the New World. He wants to avoid creating stereotypes and
prejudices, thus aspires to get the most accurate information. Lines 1 2 of this
passage demonstrate Montaigne s use of employing syntax to highlight his ideas. By
describing his servant as simple et grossier in the first clause of the sentence,
Montaigne s readers instinctive response to this description may be to assume that,
due to his lack of education or status, his view may not be of much value. The
references to great philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle throughout the essay
could certainly be considered to make the opinions of a plain and ignorant man seem
irrelevant. However, true to his style throughout Des Cannibales , Montaigne

American Loyalist Failure
Introduction The purpose of this paper is to identify the factors that contributed to the
failure in the British Southern Campaign in the American Revolutionary war. This
paper will examine British and American Southern Loyalist defeat in the Battle of
Kings Mountain, and discuss assumptions the British made, including loyalists
support, logistics, long rifle, and terrain advantage. It is important to study past
military actions to identify mistakes and apply lessons learned to current U.S.
military operations. Background The Battle of Kings Mountain took place on
October 7, 1780 between the borders of Blackburn, South Carolina and Kings
Mountain, North Carolina. Major Patrick Ferguson, a British commander, led a unit

Campbell and Shelby had successfully surprised Ferguson s men. The Patriots
advanced in a methodical manner and picked off Ferguson s men on the exposed
heights. Ferguson s men returned fire, the Patriots fortunate Loyalists shooting
downhill with their Brown Bess muskets tended to shoot high. (Jones, 2009)
Ferguson countered and ordered a bayonet attack down the mountain. The Patriots
then retreated to the base of the mountain, waited until the Loyalists disbursed, and
returned to the top. The Patriots regrouped and resumed their attack, picking off more
and more loyalist. Both sides repeated this maneuver three times during the battle.
Some of Ferguson s Loyalists ran out of ammunitions. Ferguson realized the
impending loss, attempted a breakout with his men, and advanced. In the attempt to
escape with his men, Ferguson died on the mountain. (Hickman, 2015) The Loyalist
consequently surrendered. The battle lasted an hour. Out of 1,200 men, 300 killed,
at least 120 wounded, and at least 680 taken as prisoners. The Patriots out of the 900
men had approximately 65 wounded and 28 killed. (U.S. Army War College,
A Powerful Family And A Corruptive Society
A Powerful Family and A Corruptive Society
The Montana 1948 describes the twelve years old boy David, who witnesses the
family tragedy that involves murder, sexual assault, and racism during the summer
of 1948. The Native American Marie was killed by David s uncle Frank, who is the
popular and well known doctor in Bentrock. In order to cover up Frank s crime, David
s father Wesley suffered both external and internal pressure from the power of
grandpa Julian, the justice system, and the name of Hayden. Although Wesley works
so hard to collect evidence against his brother Frank, Frank chooses to die rather than
to convince his guilt. Given too much power in the hand, the Hayden family is blind
to the laws and tend to manipulate the society. Thus, in order to preserve the fame of
the Hayden family, the Hayden abuses too much power and ignores the laws and
justice, which leads the society to the destruction.
The purpose of obtaining power is not for benefit townpeople as whole rather than to
gain domination in the society without practicing any laws. For grandpa Hayden, he
had the ambition to control others behaviors and he wanted, he needed, power пј€8)
to make himself superior to others. It is a common phenomenon that racism is one of
prevailing trend in the society of 1948. Grandpa Julian represents one of the typical
examples that shows his extreme disdain and prejudice toward the Native Americans,
who are treated poorly and badly at that time. Although grandpa had an idea
Moral Values of Silas Marner and Godfrey Cass Essay
Justice is the quality of being just as well as complying with the principle of
righteousness and also performing one s moral obligations (Oxford Dictionary).
Moral values are important in Silas Marner throughout the novel as those people
who do good deeds are rewarded while those who fail in their moral duties to others
are punished. As George Eliotwas a religious person, she believed in fate and
providence as there was a higher being rewarding and punishing our conduct. This
theme is portrayed throughout the book and seen most prominently in the characters
of Silas Marnerand Godfrey Cass.

Silas Marner is the main protagonist in the book, although the reader is not given a
good impression at the start of the novel. He is full of greed and his only joy and
pleasure is seeing his precious gold. This can be backed up by the quote Silas lived
in solitude, his guineas rising in the iron pot (Chapter 2 page 19). His reaction
when his gold is stolen is that of disbelief. It is as if one of his family members has
died. The quotes His heart leapt violently and His trembling hand prove this. This
incident is very ironic as people had accused him of stealing money but now the
tide had turned and now it was his money which had been stolen. The consequence
of the stolen money means that Silas opens up to the whole of the community. He
starts to become good friends with Dolly Winthrop, the wheelwright s wife.
Chapter 12 sees the turning point of Silas life. The readers are also introduced to
Molly Farren, Godfrey Cass wife. Molly is addicted to opium and this leads to her

thinks his gold has arrived but this gift is more important than his gold according
to him. Silas instantly becomes a better person when the child arrives at his door.
He used to crave his precious guineas but now he desires this baby. The thoughts
and cravings he had for his gold have now been replaced by this treasure . He says

People need to open their eyes and stop being ignorant about the fact that marijuana
being legal would help the United States in their need of help. Our police have
devoted thousands of hours to arresting ,booking and imprisoning marijuana smokers
, many of whom are otherwise law abiding. Unfortunate of these arrests have spent
over a decade in prison, for nothing more than possession of cannabis for personal
use. These arrests being made take officers away from more urgent issues,(Source

you have freed up the courts where it can trial other suspects. Again people against
marijuana legalization will say court resources will drop due to crime rates rising is
completely false and has no evidence to even support that.

Video Games And Its Effects
Video games have some adverse effects, but they are also valuable learning tools.
Research about the role of video games as instruments of higher education is
inadequate. The data is also limited by the lack of long term studies and
inconsistent findings. Anyone that has not participated in the activity of playing
video games may look down on those that do, because it is not seen generally as a
productive use of one s own time. If playing video games were to be compared to
other activities that are more obvious with the meaning such as exercising to stay in

A statement such as this can be used to describe how video games can moreover be
used to relieve stress and/or distance an undesirable situation for a period of time. It
has also been suggested that the home computer has the potential to affect young
children s behavior, but no published data currently exist to support this hypothesis.
Most children additionally have the knowledge that whatever can be watched on
television should also be accessible on the Internet to gain even more information on
any subject desired.
Many studies have examined the impact of video games negative results, such as
aggression and addiction, however, recent studies are addressing this imbalance. An
example of such is how video games are starting to be used for purposes that could
advance other technologies that could lay the foundation of greater future equipment.
An instance of this idea is the uses of video games in the field of health care, which
provide more than enough examples of innovative ways to use existing commercial
games for health improvement or surgical training. Specially made games help
patients be more adherent to treatment regimens and also train doctors how to
manage patients in different clinical situations. A situation that this has been
researched in is the rehabilitation of persons that have been severely injured. In Video

Dead Men s Path By Chinua Achebe
Mankind has always looked towards progression in all ways of life. Advancement
requires change to a criteria s state of being. In the short story, Dead Men s Path,
written by Chinua Achebe, we read about an ambitious headmaster wanting to instill
modernizations into his area of operation. The story concerns the boundaries of
tradition that are overstepped by the headmaster of an unprogressive school. (Chinua
Achebe). We can often see modern day governments overstepping public boundaries.
The governing bodies that have overriding powers over the outcomes of historical
and protected lands, often produce unfavorable protests by public groups that evolve
from environmental concerns and public rights. With the smallest rebuttals by these
protesting groups, we can sometimes see the power in which community contains....

His two main goals were to create a, high standard of teaching and for the school
compound to be turned into a place of beauty. (2). Being young, married, and
ambitious the protagonist, Michael Obi, was determined to uphold the school s
standard to put a lasting impression on the Government Education Officer. Michael
was faced with opposition when he discovers an ancestral footpath running through
his school s garden. A priest of Ani confronts Michael with the issue of blockading
an ancestral path would bring tension to a community and their traditions. Michael
disregards the priest s concerns and upholds his standard to disallow trespassing and
ritual to take place on his school ground. Michael found the garden to be trampled the
next morning and one of the school buildings destroyed. Michaels disregard to the
community s tradition returned him a negative report regarding the school grounds
by the inspecting supervisor. Also as a result, tension developed between the school

The Enlightenment Impact On Government Reform
The Enlightenment had major impacts on government reform, and Enlightenment
ideas began to influence how an absolute monarchy was structured. Prior to the
Enlightenment s influence, absolute monarchy was a form of government that
acted upon no specific guideline nor purpose, and all policies were geared toward
a single ruler s individual needs rather than for the benefit of the majority of the
people. Enlightened Despotism, an improved form from absolute monarchy, was
a government system where monarchs and rulers pushed for and passed reforms
that benefited the common good. Reforms included the promotion of education
for all classes and freedom of religion, speech, and the right to own individual
property. Monarchs were inspired by Enlightenment ideas to be more effective
and just rulers by looking after their people. Frederick the Great of Prussia was
considered an enlightened despot. He left an influential legacy for Prussia: he led
several successful military campaigns; promoted the Enlightenment; and was a
patron of the arts, supporting many artist and philosophers during the Renaissance.
He was an accurate representation of an enlightened despot and all it stood for, as
he considered himself to be a servant of the state. He created political reforms that
allowed more social classes to obtain government jobs. He opened up new jobs,
which led to higher positions of authority being spread out to people of various
classes, which increased diversity and representation in

$45,000 per year, with only expanded health coverage. After the third quarter, I
realized my competitors were offering more, and that they would be recruiting the

A pro forma statement is a financial statement prepared on the basis of some assumed
events and transactions that have not yet occurred. (Rollins, 2011) Pro forma
statements are historical statements that provide statements; the most common are
the income statement, balance sheet, and the statement of changes in financial
position. They give management the opportunity to show the progress a company has
made from each financial planning cycle to the next financial planning cycle. They
also help to forecast what the company will need in upcoming cycles. In the
Marketplace simulation, I used my income statement (an example of a pro forma

  • 2. Categorical Imperative Categorical Imperative: Categorical Imperative is an ethical theory, which focuses on decisions that are both moral and rational. This theory takes universal laws in consideration and focuses on rules, principles, duty and goodwill. This theory is basically based on our ability to act as rational human beings. A good example of Categorical Imperative universal theory is In law a man is guilty when he violates the rights of others. In ethics he is guilty if he only thinks of doing so. (Immanuel) In this case we can apply Categorical Imperative in answering the following questions: 1)Are the changes to Municipal Police Pensions in Nova Scotia are sin the public interest? 2)Is the change impacting the right of others? 3)Is the change rational and do the Nova Scotians deserve it? The changes to Municipal Police Pensions in Nova Scotia are in NOT in the public interest because this will create an unnecessary burden. If pension plan does change the people will have to pay more from their income to pay for the Municipal Police Pension Plan. The citizens were unaware of this sudden change in pension plan and the public is directly opposing the decision. The difference between depression and a shadow is that when the sun sinks below the horizon and the stars begin to appear, the shadow loses its fuel and leaves until dawn. With depression, night only made the shadowstronger. He described depressionas a broken feeling; he had cracks within himself where sadness always seemed to settle. The Meaning Of Normality And Nonconformity This paper will discuss the definition of normal and how it has changed in time; one thing that remains the same is how the meaning has revolutionized our present society. Today these tropical reefs suffer a great deal of environmental stresses and are projected to decline over the next century due to global warming. In Grottoli s article: The cumulative impact of annual coral bleaching can turn some coral species winners into losers, she elaborates on the effects of annual bleaching on three species of coral. Grottoli took three species of coral such as O. Faveolata, P.asreoides P.divaricata and exposed the treatment groups to high temperatures of 31.5 В°C for 15 days while control groups remained at a normal temperature of 30.6 В°C for the same amount of days. Such high level of energy reserve is a good indication of over all health and ability to acclimate to harsh environments. An endosymbiont level is a measurement of other beneficial cells that lives on the coral and forms a symbiotic relationship. Researchers recorded their results and then repeated the experiment on the same corals a year later to see the effects of repeated high temperatures as a model for annual coral bleaching as a result of global warming. Upon completion of the experiment Grottoli and her team of researchers noted, yearly bleaching can dramatically alter the thermal tolerance of corals (Grottoli s, 2014). Interestingly enough, while the majority of the species decreased in all variables compared to controls, P.divaricata increased in energy reserves at about 20 45% higher than controls after the second treatment. This increase in total energy reserve lead to a reduction in the susceptibility to coral bleaching for that species. Thus, suggests that this species of coral can adapt to high temperatures after the first event of bleaching occurs. Conversely, due to its low energy reserves and its low potential to increase endosymbiont levels, P.asreoides is not likely acclimatize to higher temperatures thus resulting in low abundance of the species in future

  • 18. Big Two Hearted River Modernism Essay Big Two Hearted River by Ernest Hemingway is a prime example of Modernist writing. The main character Nick embarks on a quest for self discovery away from his fragmented society. After the war, Nick returns to a society with a loss of old values, structures, and beliefs. Therefore, Nick isolates himself in the wilderness upon returning. The reader experiences Nick s post war mentality, and sees the struggles Nick faces with anxiety about the unknown. It is clear that Nick s journey represents the modernist search for individuality in the midst of a broken society. While alone by the water, Nick witnesses a trout. Although it is just a simple trout, the way in which it moves provides a strong sense of meaning: A big trout shot upstream in a long angle, only his shadow marking the angle, then lost his shadow as he came through the surface of the water, caught the sun, and then, as he went back into the stream under the surface, his shadow seemed to float down the stream with the current, unresisting, to his post under the bridge where he tightened facing up into the current. ( Big Two Hearted River: Part I 1202) The fact that the trout swims upstream is significant in itself. This type of fish travels while fighting against current. This scene offers symbolism. Sometimes in literature, a narrator can be unreliable. In The Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe, the reader learns that the narratoris unreliable through a change in tone from innocent to a dark but ironic tone and contradictory word choice. If this were true, then there would be more cases of possession of perverseness in people that lead to vile acts. This shows contradiction because he says his actions are perverse yet compares it to a common silly act. His previous excuses for his vile actions include moodiness and alcohol which is a far better explanation for his actions. Further on he says, .... even beyond the reach of the infinite mercy of the Most Merciful and Most Terrible God. which shows the use of theatrics to convey his deadly sin. After the Spanish had risen to power and Atahualpa was executed, several of Atahualpa s generals started rebelling against the Spanish. Quizquiz defended Cuzco from the Spaniards and Ruminahui burned Quito instead of letting it fall into the enemies hands. Nevertheless, the Spanish remained in power and within two years, they seemed to be in firm control. However, one of the Incas the Spanish had enthroned was plotting against them. Manco Inca Yupanqui, one of Atahualpas and HuГЎscars many brothers, led over 100,000 Incan warriors in an attack against the Spanish in 1536. He besieged Cuzco for more than six months and killed one of the Pizarro brothers before he was forced away by Spanish reinforcements. He managed to escape and formed a rebel colony in the mountains, which was not conquered by the Spanish for almost 40 years. During this time the Spanish were destroying sacred lands, sacred objects, however they did not find the mountain city, Machu Picchu. After the conquest ended, 93%of the Inca population had died, according to Wikipedia, mainly from smallpox and measles, the rest of the Inca were killed by the Spanish. Questions On Database Security And Database Systems DATABASE SECURITY Submitted to the Faculty of American Public University By Loren Robert Hensley In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Course of INFO620 Enterprise Database Systems November 2014 American Public University Charles Town, WV Abstract This paper explores the different aspects of security as it pertains to database systems. It will provide an overview of security concerns such as access control, user authentication, reliability and data integrity, as well as how IT professionals might mitigate the risk associated with each. By examining the methodology by which attacks on database systems occur, we are able to take a comprehensive approach to prevent or limit the extent of such attacks and the impact they may have on a DBMS environment. Finally, we will review industry best practices of the implementation of security countermeasures. Introduction Over the past ten to fifteen years, there has been tremendous growth in the utilization of database systems. One reason for this is because of the growth E Commerce has experienced. Businesses must have a reliable method of storing a customer s information safely and efficiently. We often hear of a data breach which results in customers credit card information being stolen. At the beginning of the novel, Dorian appears to be a beautiful, naive and youthful character to readers, until he is corrupted by vanity and appearences. Dorian makes a fraustian deal. He will remain youthful and beautiful physically while a potrait painted of him will reflect his age and his continuous guilty conscience. Even Dorian s efforts at altriuism are compelled are inspired by a wish to ameliorate the appearance of his soul. Vanity and appearance torment Dorian throughout the novel, he appears to condemn his actions before he actually perpetrate s them. An oversimplification of this movie is to say it is about normal people doing their job, which would be picking up and delivering mail overnight. Beneath what would seem to most people as a normal job from today s standards, is that the film dives into what it was like for the working class at the General Post Office. This documentary shows us the pride that was once had in the industry of postal service, which has become simplified with technology such as drone deliverer and air/sea travel. It is pivotal in setting the precedent for the rest of the essay since it establishes how Montaigne came to his viewpoints on the TupinambГЎ since they are different to those held by many of his contemporaries. When Montaigne wrote, people were only beginning to learn about other areas of the world. People on the whole had not travelled and so held ethnocentric views regarding culture. They failed to understand the people of the New World, thus labeled them as sauvage and barbare something which Montaigne challenges in this essay, and specifically sets out in this extract. In the first part of this extract, Montaigne considers how one can obtain the most reliable information on the New World. He wants to avoid creating stereotypes and prejudices, thus aspires to get the most accurate information. Lines 1 2 of this passage demonstrate Montaigne s use of employing syntax to highlight his ideas. By describing his servant as simple et grossier in the first clause of the sentence, Montaigne s readers instinctive response to this description may be to assume that, due to his lack of education or status, his view may not be of much value. The references to great philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle throughout the essay could certainly be considered to make the opinions of a plain and ignorant man seem irrelevant. However, true to his style throughout Des Cannibales , Montaigne
