The Fire Sparked by the Buddhist Crisis
The Fire Sparked by the Buddhist Crisis On June 11, 1963, Malcolm Browne took a photograph.
His image would become the symbol for a period in the Vietnam conflict known as the Buddhist
Crisis. Browne s photo was of a monk sitting in the middle of the street, moments after dousing
himself in fuel and lighting a match. The monk s name was Thich Quang Duc, and his suicide
would have repercussions not just in Vietnam but overseas in the United States as well. His action
stimulated major growth in the Buddhist Crisis, inspiring leaders of the movement to increase
militant actions against President Ngo Dinh Diems regime. Duc s self immolation was symbolic of
something much larger than a single political act, representing a movement that would completely
alter United States policy in Vietnam and eventually lead to the assassination of President Diem.
Revered reporter David Halberstam wrote of Thich Quang Duc s self immolation in his book The
Making of a Quagmire of, ...a young Buddhist priest with a microphone saying calmly over and
over again in Vietnamese and English, A Buddhist priest burns himself to death. A Buddhist priest
becomes a martyr. The fact that the priest was speaking in English showed that he wanted American
reporters to get the story, he wanted Americans to understand what was occurring. The photograph
captured a dramatic moment in time, but shared only a glimpse of the magnitude with which the
Buddhist Crisis would affect the future of the Vietnam

Rhetorical Analysis of Cultural Baggage Essay
Jenny Stout
Professor Bowers
English 1102
5 September 2014
Rhetorical Analysis In Barbara Ehrenreich s Cultural baggage, the topic of ethnic heritage is
discussed as the author is responding to an acquaintance asking her what her ethnic background is.
Ehrenreich finds her purpose for writing her essay in making readers aware that no ethnic
background is in fact a background. She takes on a not so common viewpoint of herself as most
people pride themselves in where they came from and the traditions of their culture, rather than
feeling almost embarrassed to claim their background. Ehrenreich claims that she has no ethnic
background, disregarding her Scottish, English, and Irish heritage. While others stand up and
proudly reclaim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ehrenreich was finally able to feel a sense of pride knowing that the race of none marches on. The
author wrote her essay including several references to certain traditions that different cultures
practice. The audience is assumed to have some general knowledge of different cultures, but
nothing to extensive. The author also assumes that the audience is somewhat well educated due to
the higher level word choices she makes. Ehrenreich is describing her realization of heritage to her
audience in the possible hopes that the readers can either relate in some way or share some of the
excitement that she does in her own ethnicity, or lack of. Ehrenreich was able to make her point that
she does in fact have an ethnicity other than Scottish, English and Irish. It was intriguing to see the
progression in the essay from the authors feeling of disconnect with her heritage to a sense of pride
in her family that refrains from carrying on cultural activities. She recognizes where she came from
and concludes that no tradition is a tradition, rather than trying to

Critical Analysis Of Evidence Based Practice
Critical Analysis of Evidence
Pressure ulcers occur over bony prominences when skin is compressed for long periods of time,
affecting the blood supply to certain areas, leading to ischaemia development (Waugh and Grant,
2001). Compression of skin is caused by pressure, shearing and friction, but can also occur due to
pressure exerted by medical equipment (Randle, Coffey and Bradbury, 2009). NICE (2014) states
that the prevalence of pressure ulcers in different healthcare settings in December 2013 was 4.7%,
taken from data available for 186,000 patients. The cost of treating ulcers can vary depending on
severity from ВЈ43 up to ВЈ374 (NICE, 2014). Evidence based practice skills are essential in
nursing as it allows the best available evidence to be used to improve practice and patient care,
while improving decision making (Holland and Rees, 2010). I will be critiquing two research
papers; qualitative and quantitative, using a framework set out by Holland and Rees (2010), and
will explore the impact on practice. Using a framework provides a standardised method of
assessing quality and reduces subjectivity.
What influences the impact of pressure ulcers on health related quality of life? A qualitative patient
focused exploration of contributory factors (Gorecki, Nixon, Madill, Firth and Brown, 2012)
The article topic should be an area in which there is a gap between knowledge and practice, and in
qualitative research, emphasises the experience of a condition (Holland and Rees,

Theme Of Equality In Harrison Bergeron
Equality, is a popular theme among the stories; Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut, The Lottery
by Shirley Jackson, and The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. In each, the word
equality is used differently but all root back to the same diversity.
In the short story Harrison Bergeron , Vonnegut created a time where in 2081, total equality was
achieved among everyone. The people, were strictly ruled by laws created by the government.
The people who were more eccentric than others were assigned handicaps . Those who were
more intelligent than others wore radio earpieces, which would interrupt their thoughts every
minute or so. This would confuse them and make it hard to use their intelligence for anything.
Also, those who were more attractive than others, would wear masks to cover their faces. People
who were athletically incline, had to wear weights all day to weigh them down. 14 year old
Harrison Bergeron, was the main protagonist in the story who had his own beliefs and ideals. He
thought that it was crazy, that for everyone to be equal in society, they would have to sacrifice
their mental or physical well being. He encouraged everyone on live T.V. to take off their
handicaps and be who they are. This was considered breaking the law governed by Diana.
However, things didn t go as he had planned. When Diana finally understood Harrison s motives,
she became enraged and executed Harrison. Equality in this story ended up not being the best for
society.

Social Differences Between The North And South Dbq Essay
There were many social differences between the North and the South. Southerners were usually
rural farmers who took pride in serving their country in the military. The Northerners were urban
people for the most part, so they had more railroad, canals, and technology. The Industrial
Revolution gave Northern states the development of machinery and capitalism which was
responsible for majority of the Norths income. The South, however, didn t have much machinery
because they depended on tobacco which then changed to cotton for most of their income. Their
entire way of life was based on forced labor system.
Slavery played a big part in the causing of the Civil War. However, it was not the entire reason for
the war. The slavery issue was primarily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Who Is The Speaker Of Sylvia Plath s Daddy
Discussing the father daughter relationship in Sylvia Plath s Daddy
The speaker of Syliva Plath s poem Daddy is a woman who both passionately loves and hates her
father. The love came from the speaker seeing her father as a God when she was a child, and the
hate came from an intense, deep rooted fear she felt towards her father, who completely dominated
her life. The speaker of this poem is attempting to free herself from her father s influence.
The speakers father dies when she is only ten years old. She was dominated at a young age and she
says Daddy, I have had to kill you / You died before I had time (6 7). This shows that her father s
death loses her chance to kill him and outgrow from this but instead she is trapped in her
childhood moments. The speaker is made to sound purposefully infantile and uses the informal
word Daddy instead of the more formal Father. This shows that the speaker is stuck in her child
like with her feelings for her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows that even though she feared her father she was still so desperate for his love that she
was willing to take in in any form. Towards the end of the poem, the speaker tries to get rid of her
father s hold on her. She tries to commit suicide as a way to join her father and end her suffering.
She said, thought even the bones would do (60). The speaker needs her father so bad that she is
willing to die to be with him. Her attempt of her suicide was a failure. Later on, she tells her father
she frees herself from him: I made a model of you, / A man in black with a Meinkampf look / and a
love of the rack and the screw. / and I said I do, I do (64 67). The speaker later marries a man that is
very similar to her father. The relationship with her husband was very much like her and her

Research Review Of New Horizons
Research Paper A Trip to Pluto
Synopsis: New Horizons is the first probe to get within 8000 miles of Pluto. We currently think
our best shot at finding extraterrestrial life is Mars or Europa, but if New Horizon were to send us
signs of life from Pluto, it would drastically change goals for the future of space exploration. A
manned mission to Pluto might go from a distant dream to a top priority, but the challenges of such
a journey are immense. The spacecraft must be able to travel to the outer reaches of the solar
system safely and swiftly and life support must be able to keep the crew alive and well, both in
transit and once they reach the planet. My story follows a manned mission to Pluto with a crew of
4 astronauts, and covers the technology needed to overcome the technical challenges of reaching
the distant, icy dwarf planet.
The topic I m focusing on for the purposes of this paper is propulsion and orbital mechanics,
specifically, gravity assists, fusion engines and propulsive landers.
One of the biggest problems with travelling to Pluto is simply summed up by the fact that it is
very, very far away. Pluto has a highly elliptical orbit, so at different points in time it s closer and
then further away from us (and the sun). In terms of distance from the sun, it s about 29.7 AU at
the closest part of its orbit (the perihelion) and 49.3 AU at the furthest part (aphelion), leading to
an average of 39.5 AU. [1] We only recently managed to get a spacecraft within flyby

Choice Theory Vs Reality Therapy
Article Review and Critique
Choice Theory may be applied to a wide array of persons and conflicts, the focus is on total
behavior, which is based on four interacting needs present from birth to death (Seligman
Reichenberg, 2014). Choice theory and Reality therapy correlate in that they both empower people
to take control of their internal and external conflicts. Furthermore, Reality Therapy initiated by
William Glasser in the 1960s is particularly useful in settings such as schools, correctional
institutions, and substance use treatment programs that emphasize changing behavior (Seligman
Reichenberg, 2014). In the article, Frequently Asked Questions and Not So Brief Answers: Part II,
we are able to analyze the responses to two questions for teachers and therapists.
Summary
The questions presented in the article that will be further analyzed along with the significant role
they present. The first one is, what is the role of the past in the practice of reality therapy? The
next, does choice theory and reality therapy give attention to the outside world? In fact, reality
therapy emphasizes on the recent past due to the fact that it is connected to the present situation.
Indeed, implementing choice theory and reality therapy is an artful process that takes into
consideration worldview of clients ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, we are able to understand that therapist provide support in various manners that
support them in improving their quality of life and objectivity. Most importantly, it is important to
note that there were speech marks from William Glasser. However, a weakness in the article was
that although the first questions was thoroughly answered the second question lacked details.

Narcissism In Shakespeare s Othello
William Shakespeare once said, A fool thinks himself to be wise, but a wise man knows himself
to be a fool. This idea can be easily applied to his play Othello. In this book Shakespeare writes of
an individual, Iago, who thinks himself to be wise in his plan to get back at his superior, Othello,
who kept a job opportunity from him. Iago schemes and plans not thinking about anyone else but
himself and his goal to get himself promoted. Iago thinks he is smarter than everyone else and
does not care about the consequences of his actions. Throughout the book, the reader learns that
Iago has a grand sense of self, needs admiration while taking much pride in his accomplishments,
and lacks empathy for the characters whose lives he affects. Accordingly, Iago considers himself a
wise man, but the reader realizes hs is, in fact, a fool.
Furthermore, The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders characterizes narcissism as
a personality disorder under Cluster B of Personality Disorders. There are nine criteria
characterizing narcissism, but in order to have a diagnosis of narcissism one must meet five of the
nine criteria. The essential factor of a narcissistic personality disorder is a pattern of grandiosity
(DSM 670), which means that the individual amplifies their achievements (DSM 669). According
to the manual, narcissists also overestimate their abilities and inflate their accomplishments and
often appear boastful and pretentious (DSM 670). In addition,

Reality Television Is A Genre Of Programming
When watching tv, we do not reality question what we watch or why we enjoy it. Simply, shows
like The Bachelor and The Jersey Shore are the entertaining pieces we need to watch after a very
long, stressful day. Not only is it comic relief, but these shows express drama, suspense, and
laughter while pushing the element of morally and socially acceptable situations that keep the
viewers fixated. These shows fit the definition of reality television. Going through the television
guide, it is amazing to see how many different reality shows are out there. The reality genre
involves three major categories: game shows, dating shows, and talent shows. In the United
States, reality television now accounts for almost 70 to 80 percent of television viewership
(Klien, 2013). However, reality television did not really exist until the 1900s. While there are a
view shows showing back in the 1940s, it was not until the 1990s when reality viewing was a
sensation. Reality television is a genre of programming that is unscripted real life situations
featuring individuals during their lives and countless environments the audience can relate to.
Reality tv technology is real time viewing of all the places the audience is not. It is the ultimate
peek into a neighbor s kitchen window, or bedroom window at that matter (Slocum). Typically, the
cast are not actors, although in some shows celebrities may participate. Over the decades, reality tv
has become a phenomenon that some individuals

The Inertial Navigation System ( Ins )
The inertial navigation system (INS) is a highly complex device which utilises very sensitive
sensors to generate movement information and a computer to develop an algorithm of motion
over time. The INS can be described as very sophisticated dread reckoning. The sensors which
are used in an INS are accelerometers and gyroscopes which are further linked to a computer.
The main consideration is that these highly sensitive and advanced sensors used in an INS still
have errors from accuracy limitations in units of basic design or original outdated concepts. The
accuracy can be improved with more complex and updated integration which includes the use of
the better and more advanced components. To understand the errors associated with INS, a
closer look into the flow of information is essential. The north facing accelerometer is mounted
to a platform which is supported by gyroscopes. Any accelerations detected are given to the first
stage integrator which uses the time component to develop velocity data. The second integrator
uses the velocity data and time to calculate the distance travelled which is then added to the
present position to generate a new present position. The system uses a backwards feedback loop
of velocity data to the gyroscopes to make accelerometer platform perpendicular to the local
gravity vector. This model is used for both north facing and east facing platforms and combined
with the secant multiplier. The basic system designs would carry a greater error but

The World Of The Five Freedoms And Internet Security
Fifth Freedom Fight Ph.D Cynthia Andrzejczyk, author of The Progressive Writing Text, dove
into the world of the five freedoms and Internet security. During the first month of a new year in
1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt delivered a speech on the Four Freedoms to the 77th
Congress of the United States of America (Andrzejczyk 64). Roosevelt s four freedoms became
the lifeline of every citizen. Each of these freedoms have become a basic human fact. These
freedoms became the backbone of the United States and are also included in the United Nations
Declaration of Human Rights(author? 64). All citizens have been given the chance to make their
own decisions and increase their quality of life. Everyone is given the tools to be able to achieve
each of their dreams, gain more knowledge and globally expand networks. The first essential
freedom that Roosevelt discussed was the right to freedom of speech. This freedom gave people the
right to express themselves while omitting any caution, The people may also challenge laws that
they believe infringe upon their right to freedom of expression (author? 64). This freedom crosses
into gray matter where the internetis concerned because of how information on the Internet is
monitored and removed if necessary. The freedom of speech also included the freedom of
information, where citizens are allowed to seek knowledge through any platform with any limits
(64).The second freedom was the freedom to worship. Citizens will be free

Gender Roles In Shakespeare s Twelfth Night By William...
Jane Austen and WIlliam Shakespeare are writers that challenged traditional ways of literature and
created various tales of perseverance through lead characters and important themes that are still
studied to this day. Although the two authors are from different centuries, both examined the art of
challenging genderroles in literature in order to achieve something greater. Back in the time
periods of Shakespeare and Austen, the role that women were supposed to play were gentle and
thought to have kept to their work in the house. Never were the women supposed to engage in
work designed for men. Most of the time, the women grew up and were wed to a husband of the
father s choosing, usually in some form of an agreement or deal between two families. However,
Jane Austen and William Shakespeare wrote about two very important females who challenged the
ideas of what a womanshould be, all in order to advance themselves without judgement that they
were female. The two female characters portrayed in William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night and in
Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudicechallenged gender roles and social expectations amidst great
personal struggle, however were not able to gain independence to the benefit of their gender.

character who goes through struggle after struggle in order to prove a point, however, it is clear
that she is simply a character who dresses as her twin brother,

Arts-Based Research Papers
Before talking about what is arts based research and design thinking good for, we should first know
what is research. Pierre and Zimmerman (1997) stated: I like to think of research as re search, to
search again, to take a closer second look. This is a very accurate way to describe what is research.
Because sometimes when we do a research, we will have more than two researchers to work
together, not only making sure the credibility of results, but also searching again and again to
obtain a plenty of useful information. And also indicate research should focus on three periods: the
past, present, and future, which can help it more accurately to find solutions.

Eliot s The Waste Land
Word War I: a gruesome war with a devastating and traumatizing impact on its citizens. After
Europe had just emerged the war, many individuals believed that the world had become inhumane
and chaotic. As a result, critics have argued that T.S. Eliot s The Waste Land was written to seek
order in a disturbed world. Eliot s publication caused a significant impact on modern society and
the literary world. Initially, the poem seems to be incoherent and fragmented; after readers have
observed his poem, they are able to recognize Eliot s brilliantly unique and nontraditional use of
techniques. His unconventional style, graphic imagery, and sheer inconsistency of the poem has
greatly mystified and fascinated readers. While Eliot was writing The Waste Land, he was enduring
times of personal difficulty, which was distinctively expressed in his poem. Thus, his work
became a well known piece that expressed the mood of a postwar society, disillusioned by the loss
of principles. Eliot decided to transform his poem, not only to demonstrate despair and misery, but
to also seek the means to escape it. Consequently, T.S. Eliot s use of unconventional language and
style allows his audience to get a glimpse of an attempt to represent the subject of human soul
searching for redemption.
T. S. Eliot s poem is a long and complex masterpiece that investigates the psychological, emotional
and cultural disaster that was associated to the severely traumatic after effects of World War I. The

So what are the contributing factors to these frightening truck accident statistics?
o Driver fatigue. Truck drivers are pushing their limits to deliver their goods, driving with little
sleep and an extra load of stress. They re driving faster and pushing the envelope of safety. They
keep less and less distance between themselves and the passenger cars nearby.
o Inexperienced truck drivers who lack training.
o Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Moving In One Place
Staying in one place or be moving from city to city or country to another country really doesn t
depend on us. If we still live with our parents then when it comes to moving we don t really have
an option. Even though when it feel like if you move you will lose all of your friends, moving
from city to city or house to another house is not bad at all. Moving can also bring you good
stuff, like new friends, new experiences and adventures, you get to met new people and if you
move from country you get to explore a new culture. Since I remember I have always moved, and

Martin Luther King Jr Legacy Essay
What would life be like if there was no one who stood up for equal rights for the African
Americans? There would be no equality, there would still be slaves all over the United States.
Those men and women who fought and argued over this issue were big influences on the way the
country runs now. One individual who did not give up what he believed in was Martin Luther
King Jr. He didn t do it alone, he encouraged others to stand up and fight back as well right along
next to him. Martin Luther King Jr. was a leader that left a legacy in the history of the United States

The Methods That Are Used By The Standard Transactions
D The two methods that are used by the expert include the comparable transactions method, which
uses the multiples in the market to determine the value, and also the DCF method, which is used to
discount the future cash flows back to determine the current value of the shares. Different methods
have different strengths and weaknesses. According to Ross (2009), the comparable transaction
method is used and the strength is that it uses the historical actual transactions that are comparable
to the Woolworths transaction, so that the valuation is justified by the market conditions. In the
meantime, the weakness of the comparable transaction is that different transactions have different
companies involved and the transactions are conducted in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, in the comparable transaction method, the expert uses the acquisition of Saks and
acquisition of Neiman Marcus as comparable transactions. The methods are correct, as both of
these are retailers. However, it is also important to realize the weakness, which is that these two
companies do not have exactly the same products as David James. Another weakness is that the
number of comparable transactions is too small and the multiples that are used for valuation
vary considerably, so that large discrepancies are generated. The DCF method is a useful
method. In this case the assumptions that are made in the DCF method are reasonable. The
DCF also includes many different scenarios that are used for valuation. However, one of the
major weaknesses of this is that the variation of valuation is very large. Therefore, it is
reasonable to believe that although both methods are good for valuation purposes, the
weaknesses generated could impact the accuracy of the results. The growth rate that is assumed
in the DCF valuation is 2.5%, which is reasonable. According to Ross (2009), the growth rate of
2.5% matches the long term growth rate of the Australian economy and therefore it is justified. As
the company keeps growing it would finally reaches its final status. In many situations the
company is able to grow as fast as the Australian economy is able to. Very few industries are able
to grow at a faster rate than the whole economy for very long periods of time. An important

Reflection On Socialization
The process of socialization must happen in order to raise a child from their own individual
oriented lifestyle into one that will thrive within a diverse society. Though the child compromises
aspects of their original, uncultured persona, the trade off is for the better: a needy child could
attend school and gain independence, or an ornery toddler could learn the balance of actions and
consequences through time outs. From what I have observed, effective socializationrequires that the
child must primarily learn from others of the same general status and age, as well as be able to find
their niche within the whole group to specialize their methods and actions accordingly.
I personally witnessed socialization in action and how it may initially cause rifts within a child
s psyche as they find their niche in their society. For example, last year I interned at a women s
substance abuse rehabilitation center, concentrating on the resident children and their resulting
behavioral tendencies. There was one 5 year old girl who I bonded notably closer to than all of
the other kids. During behavioral therapy sessions, I discovered that exposure to alcohol in utero
had led to her developing various emotional and attachment disorders. Her natural reaction to
triggering situations or conflict was to scream and whine relentlessly until she got her way, so
in therapy she was taught self soothing methods and practiced identifying her emotions in order
to remedy her behavior. During counseling, she made tremendous progress, quickly seeming to
understand the emotional concepts presented to her. However, when the morning therapy
sessions were done, she would go to preschool and act out as if she learned nothing. One day, I
was called into her classroom because she had allegedly struck a classmate after he stole a toy
from her. I found her grinning guiltily while the boy sobbed on the floor beside her. Before I
could intervene, a classmate of hers consoled the boy and invited him to play, all while ignoring
her. As she observed her classmates interacting in this wholesome, benevolent manner, she was
being socialized to react correctly to her emotions. Her actions did not receive the desired result, so
she adjusted until they fell

Comparing The First Emperor And The Assassin
The variation in the depiction of the First Emperor puts into question why there is not a consistent
image of such an iconic figure in Chinese history. The discrepancies of this historical figure is likely
due to the subjective nature of record keeping during ancient Chinese history. When the proceeding
dynasty is expected to write the historic documents of the predecessors, bias documentation is
inevitable. While Emperor and the Assassin weaves a humanistic narrative of Qin Shi Huang, Hero
hones in his ideology of peace and unification. Because the two films Hero and Emperor and the
Assassin try to illuminate the audience on the First Emperor s unification plans and interpret him in
a way that best fits the director s cinematographic purposes, this holistically adds up to two different
depiction of the same character.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hero sets the foundation of its narrative by introducing Nameless, a skilled swordsman from the
Qin. This directly plays into the director s, Zhang Yimou, message, as the focus of the film was
not on the First Emperor, but on the reason behind unification. Although some argue that Qin Shi
Huang, by definition, was a tyrant, Hero tries to shift this perception. Zhang Yimou tries to mold
Qin Shi Huang as the Mandate of Heaven who sacrifices his name to rightfully unite everyone
under heaven. Despite knowing he will be killed for the attempt. Nameless decided to abort his
assassination in the end, just like how Broken Sword did. His decision strongly conceptualizes his
belief, regardless of his treacherous years of training, on the emperor s vision for peace and unity.
Evidently, film consistently revolved around the idea that unification will eventually lead to peace
among the States, and it was idea that sold to even the most powerful

Abraham Lincoln Peoria Speech Summary
Abraham Lincoln was a great president that helped change the course of the united states. Some
people at the time would say for the better other for worse. With that people would call a him a
racist, someone who thinks that their own race is superior to another race. Or people would call
him an emancipator, someone who sets free from legal, political, or social restrictions. Lincoln
was not a racist, he was an emancipator for he freed the slaves. In his Peoria Speech, lincoln
express his disapproval of the Kansas Nebraska Act and how it ignored the issue with slavery.
He even says that his first impulse is to free the slaves, and called slavery an injustice and a
betrayal to the republican example. He then goes on to say that if blacks are people that they
deserve equality due to the Declaration of Independence. Along with that he say that it is not
possible to be morally right and enslave another man. With all this that Lincoln thought better of the

His plan was to speak to some of the blacks leaders and went about doing this through their
churches. When the meeting happened, he explained to them that this would be a good idea and
would benefit both races. He told them that there would still be injustices against them and even
though they would be free they would not be equals. Lincoln says they are fortunate to have this
opportunity and should take it. The place he has planned for them is down in Central America
by Panama. He says that there is a lot of rich coal down there for them and is a good place to
start a colony. Lincoln was looking out for the blacks when he did this, he wanted the best for them
and did not want them to be oppressed. He got 13,000 registered to proceed with the plan, but sadly

Human Primates, Humans, And Humans
Humans evolve from apelike ancestors approximately five million years ago. Most closely related
to us are our non human primates such as African great apes, chimpanzees and gorillas. Scientific
studies reveal that more similar traits are being share by human and our non human primates
compared to other animals. As humanevolve from our apelike ancestors, changes in our DNA
differentiate ourselves from our non human primate. Even though we evolve from our non human
ancestors and share similar anatomical structures and characteristics, we are unique in our own
ways. We possess specific qualities and abilities that differ from other species. There is a

Non human primates communication based on a limited range of sounds and gestures. Human
communication is far more focused on the use of oral sounds. The human voice and non human
primate vocalizations are characterized by important differences. Our speech is radically different
from other sounds used by non human primates to communicate. Vocal perception abilities through
conspecific vocalizations are important in social interactions. Only human possess speech
perception to communicate in a highly efficient manner (Belin, 2006). Human and non human
primates vocalization differs in the morphology of the vocal apparatus and acoustic structure (Fitch
2000, 2003). Primates such as monkeys possess vocal folds in the vocal tract which are absent in
humans (Schon Ybarra 1995). The larynx in the vocal tract of human is much lower compared to
the non human primates. The lowered larynx allows the increase of flexibility of the tongue and
thus yielding a large range of frequencies. In contrast, higher larynx leads to inflexibility of the
tongue thus limiting the non human primates ability to yield acoustically distinct sounds through
their vocal tract (Belin, 2006). In addition, non human primates do not use their tongue to modify
the shape of the vocal tract for the production of sound. The distinct production of human speech

Hate Groups Research Paper

means, One political and religious leader over all. ISIS has many other beliefs, the qualifications
to belong to this group can be brutal, and the present day hate is awful. This group s roots trace
back to Abu Musab al Zarqawi, a Jordanian who set up Jihad in 2002. A year after the United States
invaded Iraq, Zarqawi pledged allegiance to Osama Bin Laden, and founded Al Qaeda in Iraq.
After Zarqawi s death his followers created an umbrella organization ISI, or Islamic State in Iraq.
In 2003 the Islamic State renamed itself to the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant. Now ISIS is
using propaganda to recruit Westerners to their cause. Most people who are being recruited have

Polluted air causes physical ill effect decides undesirable aesthetic and physiological effects. The
main pollutants contributed by automobiles, electric power generating stations, industrial and
domestic fuel consumption, refuse burning, industrial processing etc. are carbon monoxide (CO),
unburned hydrocarbon (UBHC), oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and Lead. An aqua silencer is an
attempt mainly dealing with control of emission and noise. The noise and smoke level is
considerably less than the conventional silencer, it is cheaper, no need of catalytic converter and

Regenerative Wound Medicine
Regenerative medicine such as tissue replacement and wound healing has been used quite
extensively for skin treatments over the years. Understanding the pathology of skin injury will
bring effective treatments and wound healing outcomes. Several strategies like traditional skin
grafts, certain biomaterials, and stem cell therapies are vital for current tissue injuries and the future
of tissue regeneration.
Introduction and Pathology
The skin is said to be the largest organ in a human body. It is divided into 3 layers: epidermis
(outer layer or superficial layer of the skin), dermis (connective tissue, hair follicles, and sweat
glands), hypodermis (subcutaneous fat) (Chen, 2009). These layers act as a barrier by protecting
the body from environmental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stem cells are multipotent which give rise to multiple cell types and are known for their self
renewing and tissue differentiation abilities. Research has shown SCs to have successful results in
the field of skin regeneration (Duscher, 2016). SCs of interest for wound healing include adult
mesenchymal stem cells (MSC s), embryonic stem cells (ESC s), and induced pluripotent stem
cells (IPSC s). MSCs are isolated mainly from the bone marrow and other tissues such as adipose
and nerve tissues and are administered locally as well as systemically with little to no
immunoreactivity (Tartarini, 2016). MSCs regenerative benefits in wound injury is not seen in its
structural capabilities rather it s seen in its escape of trophic mediators (Duscher, 2016). Bone
marrow MSCs injected in wound sites produce high amounts of collagen and growth factors
leading to faster healing, epithelialization, angiogenesis, and cellularity (Duscher, 2016). Studies
also show that bone marrow derived MSCs injected in injury sites had decreased wound size,
increased vascularity and dermal thickness (Duscher, 2016). Although MSCs for wound therapy has
been proven effective and well tolerated in patients, there still seems to be limitations such as
invasiveness of their harvest, cost of resources, and hazards that deal with growing cell cultures to
attain healing

Chinese Air Pollution
History of Air Pollution in China
During the 1980s, China underwent a series of industrial changes leading to severe air pollution
(Chen, Ebenstein, Greenstone, Li, 2013; Chen, Kan, Chen, Jiang, Hong, 2011; Kan, London, Chen,
Zhang, Song, Zhao, Chen, 2007; Schmidt, Olicker, 2004). As industries in large cities expanded,
the resources required to manufacture goods produced pollution in the air (Chen, Ebenstein,
Greenstone, Li, 2013; Chen, Kan, Chen, Jiang, Hong, 2011; Kan, London, Chen, Zhang, Song,
Zhao, Chen, 2007; Schmidt, Olicker, 2004). Over the years China continues to be one of the top
manufactures in the world, making industries increase their revenue demands. Although this change
has assisted in China s economic development and growth, it has also damaged the environment
these individuals live in. Industries in China have no mandatory rules and regulations that forces
companies to control what is released into the air. Thus, greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide
are released freely causing severe damages in the environment (Chen, Ebenstein, Greenstone, Li,
2013; Chen, Kan, Chen, Jiang, Hong, 2011; Kan, London, Chen, Zhang, Song, Zhao, Chen, 2007.
In terms of air pollution, China even seems to be surpassing other countries globally (World Health
Organization, 2010). Data shows that the most serious cases of air pollution in the world are
located in nine cities in China and about 1/3 of the 113 cities failed the national

The Problem Of Crime And Gun Violence
Although it seems like the problem of crime and gun violence is never approached or discussed,
there are leaders within America tirelessly working to find a solution to help decrease crime.
Alex Yablon puts it like this in his article on The Trace, saying the lack of progress on the federal
level should not be confused with a lack of proposed solutions to America s gun violence
epidemic there are plenty of those, on both sides of the table. Yablon means there are some bills
that would limit the access to guns as well as bills that would prevent the enforcement of
restrictions on guns. However, he is not the only one to have an opinion of how the government is
viewing crimeand gun violence. John Donohue, in his article Gun Control: What We can learn
from other Advanced Countries, points out that besides being the world leader in the amount of
guns available to citizens, the U.S. does not seem to be making much progress on finding a
solution. Donohue also goes on to say that, the stricter gun laws of other advanced countries have
restrained homicidal violence, suicides and gun accidents, despite there being protest by the
armed citizens (Newsweek Magazine Web). These two men each hold different viewpoints when
it comes to how they think crime and gun violence is being addressed by the government,
however, each of their viewpoints presents a valid opinion in regards to the issue. Still, in order to
fully understand what is going on at the federal level, one has to

judgment, and grew over the next two days, but they would continue for several days. Angry Los
Angels residents went out to the streets to show their fury. These people are angry and they have
every right to be! said a man to the news cameras during the destruction. Authorities failed
miserably to control the people. As time went by the madness did not decrease but enlarged.
The second day (Thursday, April 30, 1992) of rioting, the storekeepers did not stay put, but fought
back to protect their shops. News channels televised store owners fighting back with arms and other
weapons to protect what was theirs. Their attempts were

How Does Adam Kraar Create Tension In Love On The B Line
Grecia Ramirez

Creative Writing
24 January 2017
The B Line over Lorimer Street Many relationships in today s present day have small arguments.
Some are over other people, their past life, honesty, or committing to the relationship one hundred
percent. In the play Love on the B Line , by Adam Kraar, the biggest conflict between the two
characters Robbie and Marie is that Marie does not want to go back to Robbie s place with him.
What is the big reason that she does not want to? Marie is not open with Robbie as to why she is
deciding to not go, by her doing that, Robbie just insists more and more. The play Love on the B
Line is very relatable to present day, Marie is refusing to commit to the relationship while Robbie is

Both characters, Marie and Robbie, are in a situation that is relevant to couples today which
make the play have a tone of intensity. Marie reveleaing that she is afraid to fall deep in love
with Robbie like she has in her past with someone else creates a strong sense of pity from Robbie
because he was continually insisting for her to go back to his house with him to stay the night.
Robbie immediately responded to Marie with It s okay (Kraar, 321) Marie also revealed that she
was just afraid that Robbie was using her, the understanding and feelings of these two characters are
very compelling to human qualities. The situation of this piece is not too farfetched from
something that can occur in this present day between two people in a serious

Unit 1 Essay: Plessy v. Ferguson Brown v. Board of Education The landmark power known as
judicial review has had many lasting effects on laws known as precedents, from permitting the
separation of two races to requiring that all defendants receive attorneys. Precedents regard racial
segregation are the basis of what the cases Plessy v. Ferguson and Brown v. Board of Education
established when viewed as two components of one story. Plessy v. Ferguson resulted in the
separate, but equal doctrine allowing African Americans and white Americans to stay separate.

Board of Education, resulted in the overturning of the separate, but equal doctrine under the
realization that separation is what took away the equality. In the early 1950s, schools in Topeka,
Kansas segregated people by race, leaving Linda Brown and her sister to walk through a
hazardous railroad switchyard to get to the bus stop for their school. There was a school closer to
where they lived, however, it was an all white school. Linda and her family saw the segregation
systems as a violation of the Fourteenth Amendment and took it to court. Federal district courts
claimed the segregation was harmful to African Americanyouths, however due to the similar
qualities the all black and all white schools shared, it was deemed fully constitutional under the
separate, but equal doctrine. The case was taken to the Supreme Court and the court expressed that
even though the schools shared similar facilities, segregated schools could never be equal. As such,
the separate, but equal doctrine was overruled as it violated the Equal Protection Clause of the
Fourteenth Amendment. This decision resulted in the precedent that any laws that segregated
people, no matter how similar their facilities may be, was unconstitutional.(Paraphrased from
www.streetlaw.org) One way the two cases are linked is through their subject matter; that being
segregation and racial discrimination. An article written by Alex

Chekov Upper Class
For centuries, those who have lower societal class have always been dehumanized and ridiculed,
for no other reason than having less money than the higher class. In the story, An Upheaval, as
well as the short film, I m Not the Indian You Had in Mind, material objects are used to show the
seemingly drastic differences between two social standings. This is important because in order
for society to function prosperously, the wise thing to do is to get rid of this thinking, so people
no longer have to face this inhumane discrimination. In Chekov s An Upheaval, Lady Fenya s
missing brooch is a symbol that represents how the upper class society has a misconstrued view of
the lower class. For example, when Mashenka finds out that

Fallingwater Vs Kentuck Knob Essay
Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob are two beautiful homes built by a man known as an architectural
genius, Frank Lloyd Wright. These houses have gained such notoriety in the architectural world that
both were named as National Historic Landmarks. The houses are located very close to each other
resting in the beautiful Allegheny Mountains of Fayette County in Southwestern Pennsylvania.
Fallingwateris approximately 43 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. This home was built partly over a
waterfall on Bear Run in the Laurel Highlands. The house was built between 1936 and 1939 for
Edgar and Liliane Kaufmann, the owners of the famous Kaufmann s department store, and was

Allegheny Mountains. Kentuck Knob overlooks the fantastic view of the Youghiogheny River
gorge as well as surrounding hills and farmland.
Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob were intentionally designed alike and have many similarities but
some notable differences as well. They were both built in the Allegheny Mountains of Fayette
County. The natural landscape and architectural style was described by Wright as organic and have
a natural feel and style to match its surroundings. Both homes are integrated into the scenic and
beautiful landscape of the land. Fallingwater sits low in the valley of over the stream, but looks
dramatic from further downstream. The house has large terraces, and some of them stick straight
out and hang over the waterfall. There are very strong horizontal and vertical lines in the design of
the house which resembles the horizontal and vertical lines in the rock formations and other natural
features. Fallingwater used cantilevers to hold certain parts of the house over the stream. Some of
the house was built with the stones found in the area. The waterfall

More Space Shuttle Experiments Take Flight Summary
The article More Space Shuttle Experiments Take Flight, talks about a unique mentorship program
for the ages of elementary children. The mentorship program prepares experiments that have been
conducted in flight on space shuttle missions, students have the chance to study simulations that
have happened in space in a classroom setting. For example, students study the effect of spaceflight
on seeds and brine shrimp germinated/ hatched in the classroom. The article includes the students
and the teachers, it is a nationwide mentorship program that is engaging students to move on to the
next set of space shuttleexperiment studies. Several schools are participating in these different
series of space shuttle experiments and the experiments vary depending on the age level and interest.
What I love about these space shuttle experiments is the fact that the students and teachers are
involved together. There is communication throughout all the schools involved and unanswered
questions are always given an answer. When students in the classroom are given an experiment like
this, it is going to create a learning environment that is enjoyable for learners. The author of the

Elizabeth Barrett Browning
The poem How do I love Thee? Let Me Count the Ways , was written by Elizabeth Barrett
Browning in 1850. Elizabeth Barrett Browning was born in 1806 in England, as a child, she did
not have the best childhood when she was growing up. Elizabeth Barrett Browning was a young
child when she was diagnosed with lung disease that required her to take medications for the rest
of her life, and she had also suffered from an injury on her spinal cord when she was riding on
her horse at the age of fifteen. The poem How do I love Thee? Let Me Count the Ways was one of
the sonnets in Sonnetof the Portuguese which was dedicated to her husband Robert Browning. This
poem was secretly written before she got married because her and Robert were exchanging letters...

When we read the first line of the poem How do I love Thee? Let me count the ways she is
talking to the audience about her husband Robert and how she loves him in many different
ways. The second line I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach when
feeling out of sight For the ends of being and ideal grace . She explains how her love for her
husband is very deep and how it can extend as far as it can like a soul does when it heads up to
heaven. The third line I love thee to the level of every day s most quiet need, by sun and candle
light this means that the love is given every minute of every day, even if they are in their quiet
home or not, the love is still there day and night. When we continue to read the poem there is
one line that actually had me think a lot and that is I love thee freely, as men strive for right .
This line seemed confusing at first, but it made a lot more sense at that moment because when
she says men strive for right we know that the men have to fight for what is right, but when she
includes I love thee freely we get a sense that her love for her husband is free will. She chose to
love him, even if it s the right thing to do or not, the love is

Maya Angelou s the Graduation
Maya Angelou s The Graduation Throughout life we go through many stepping stones, Maya
Angelou s autobiographical essay Graduation , was about more than just moving on to another
grade. The unexpected events that occurred during the ceremony enabled her to graduate from the
views of a child to the more experienced and sometimes disenchanting views of an adult. Upon
reading the story there is an initial feeling of excitement and hope which was quickly tarnished with
the awareness of human prejudices. The author vividly illustrates many mood changes she
undergoes throughout the story. From the outset of the story there is an overwhelming sense of
hope that has enveloped the entire community and school with the upcoming graduation.... Show

All her perfect practice was now gone and the strain as they fumbled for their chairs began to
crush their pattern. The author was overcome with a presentiment of worse things to come. Don
Leavy s speech caused a fury to start boiling inside of the author due to the assumed fact that she
has lost control over her future. The accomplishment was nothing. , she has already been picked
to act and assume a certain role in society. Anything they aspired for other than maids or farmers
was farcial and presumtous. Along with this fury came frustration. This frustration is like a
blanket that is too short to cover you, no matter how much you stretch and pull, it never covers
you whole. This is now what was consuming her mind. For the moment she had to sit there and
listen to the garbage filling the room, listen to charges brought against my color. What had been
beautiful, was now ugly. She hated the human race for what it had become, a race or mass of
people concreted on bias. The ceremony that had started out as a night of hope had now become
an eternity of hopelessness. Moving from a childlike bliss to an awakening of the world s
prejudice, the author makes the words take on flesh. The story is made alive as she breathes life
into a time that is unpleasant yet not void of hope. The hush hush magic time of frills and gifts and
congratulations disappeared when they were told the cold hard `truth of their fate that some white
man had already decided for them.

If a student has test anxiety, however, he or she may not perform as well on these important tests
as they typically would if they weren t experiencing a lot of anxiety. A new study indicates that
writing about one s anxieties before an important exam may help a student perform significantly
better on that test. The research was conducted by Dr. Sian Beilock and her colleagues. Beilock
is an associate professor of psychology at the University of Chicago and an expert in, choking
under pressure. Choking under pressure, refers to the phenomenon that occurs when one
performs below his or her ability or skill level during an especially challenging task or
experience. Beilock has also written a book entitled Choke: What the Secrets of the Brain
Reveal About Getting It Right When You Have To. According to Psych Central, Beilock has
done prior research that has shown pressure filled experiences or situations may reduce working
memory, which is part of the brain s processing power. Our working memories allow us to recall
information needed to perform everyday tasks. However, working memory has limited processing
power, so when worries creep up, the ability to recall and retrieve information becomes limited.
Prior research has also indicated expressive writing where individuals write about emotional or
traumatic experiences repeatedly over weeks decreases worries in individuals who are depressed.
The current study aimed to determine if writing in a classroom could help students perform better
on tests. Additionally, the researchers hypothesized that just one opportunity to write before taking
a test would reduce worries and improve exam scores. In one experiment, the researchers recruited
20 college students to take two short mathematics tests. The researchers instructed the students to
simply do their best on the first test (pre test).

  • 2. The Fire Sparked by the Buddhist Crisis The Fire Sparked by the Buddhist Crisis On June 11, 1963, Malcolm Browne took a photograph. His image would become the symbol for a period in the Vietnam conflict known as the Buddhist Crisis. Browne s photo was of a monk sitting in the middle of the street, moments after dousing himself in fuel and lighting a match. The monk s name was Thich Quang Duc, and his suicide would have repercussions not just in Vietnam but overseas in the United States as well. His action stimulated major growth in the Buddhist Crisis, inspiring leaders of the movement to increase militant actions against President Ngo Dinh Diems regime. Duc s self immolation was symbolic of something much larger than a single political act, representing a movement that would completely alter United States policy in Vietnam and eventually lead to the assassination of President Diem. Revered reporter David Halberstam wrote of Thich Quang Duc s self immolation in his book The Making of a Quagmire of, ...a young Buddhist priest with a microphone saying calmly over and over again in Vietnamese and English, A Buddhist priest burns himself to death. A Buddhist priest becomes a martyr. The fact that the priest was speaking in English showed that he wanted American reporters to get the story, he wanted Americans to understand what was occurring. The photograph captured a dramatic moment in time, but shared only a glimpse of the magnitude with which the Buddhist Crisis would affect the future of the Vietnam ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Rhetorical Analysis of Cultural Baggage Essay Jenny Stout Professor Bowers English 1102 5 September 2014 Rhetorical Analysis In Barbara Ehrenreich s Cultural baggage, the topic of ethnic heritage is discussed as the author is responding to an acquaintance asking her what her ethnic background is. Ehrenreich finds her purpose for writing her essay in making readers aware that no ethnic background is in fact a background. She takes on a not so common viewpoint of herself as most people pride themselves in where they came from and the traditions of their culture, rather than feeling almost embarrassed to claim their background. Ehrenreich claims that she has no ethnic background, disregarding her Scottish, English, and Irish heritage. While others stand up and proudly reclaim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ehrenreich was finally able to feel a sense of pride knowing that the race of none marches on. The author wrote her essay including several references to certain traditions that different cultures practice. The audience is assumed to have some general knowledge of different cultures, but nothing to extensive. The author also assumes that the audience is somewhat well educated due to the higher level word choices she makes. Ehrenreich is describing her realization of heritage to her audience in the possible hopes that the readers can either relate in some way or share some of the excitement that she does in her own ethnicity, or lack of. Ehrenreich was able to make her point that she does in fact have an ethnicity other than Scottish, English and Irish. It was intriguing to see the progression in the essay from the authors feeling of disconnect with her heritage to a sense of pride in her family that refrains from carrying on cultural activities. She recognizes where she came from and concludes that no tradition is a tradition, rather than trying to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Critical Analysis Of Evidence Based Practice Critical Analysis of Evidence Pressure ulcers occur over bony prominences when skin is compressed for long periods of time, affecting the blood supply to certain areas, leading to ischaemia development (Waugh and Grant, 2001). Compression of skin is caused by pressure, shearing and friction, but can also occur due to pressure exerted by medical equipment (Randle, Coffey and Bradbury, 2009). NICE (2014) states that the prevalence of pressure ulcers in different healthcare settings in December 2013 was 4.7%, taken from data available for 186,000 patients. The cost of treating ulcers can vary depending on severity from ВЈ43 up to ВЈ374 (NICE, 2014). Evidence based practice skills are essential in nursing as it allows the best available evidence to be used to improve practice and patient care, while improving decision making (Holland and Rees, 2010). I will be critiquing two research papers; qualitative and quantitative, using a framework set out by Holland and Rees (2010), and will explore the impact on practice. Using a framework provides a standardised method of assessing quality and reduces subjectivity. What influences the impact of pressure ulcers on health related quality of life? A qualitative patient focused exploration of contributory factors (Gorecki, Nixon, Madill, Firth and Brown, 2012) The article topic should be an area in which there is a gap between knowledge and practice, and in qualitative research, emphasises the experience of a condition (Holland and Rees, ... • 5. Theme Of Equality In Harrison Bergeron Equality, is a popular theme among the stories; Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut, The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, and The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. In each, the word equality is used differently but all root back to the same diversity. In the short story Harrison Bergeron , Vonnegut created a time where in 2081, total equality was achieved among everyone. The people, were strictly ruled by laws created by the government. The people who were more eccentric than others were assigned handicaps . Those who were more intelligent than others wore radio earpieces, which would interrupt their thoughts every minute or so. This would confuse them and make it hard to use their intelligence for anything. Also, those who were more attractive than others, would wear masks to cover their faces. People who were athletically incline, had to wear weights all day to weigh them down. 14 year old Harrison Bergeron, was the main protagonist in the story who had his own beliefs and ideals. He thought that it was crazy, that for everyone to be equal in society, they would have to sacrifice their mental or physical well being. He encouraged everyone on live T.V. to take off their handicaps and be who they are. This was considered breaking the law governed by Diana. However, things didn t go as he had planned. When Diana finally understood Harrison s motives, she became enraged and executed Harrison. Equality in this story ended up not being the best for society. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Social Differences Between The North And South Dbq Essay There were many social differences between the North and the South. Southerners were usually rural farmers who took pride in serving their country in the military. The Northerners were urban people for the most part, so they had more railroad, canals, and technology. The Industrial Revolution gave Northern states the development of machinery and capitalism which was responsible for majority of the Norths income. The South, however, didn t have much machinery because they depended on tobacco which then changed to cotton for most of their income. Their entire way of life was based on forced labor system. • 7. Who Is The Speaker Of Sylvia Plath s Daddy Discussing the father daughter relationship in Sylvia Plath s Daddy The speaker of Syliva Plath s poem Daddy is a woman who both passionately loves and hates her father. The love came from the speaker seeing her father as a God when she was a child, and the hate came from an intense, deep rooted fear she felt towards her father, who completely dominated her life. The speaker of this poem is attempting to free herself from her father s influence. The speakers father dies when she is only ten years old. She was dominated at a young age and she says Daddy, I have had to kill you / You died before I had time (6 7). This shows that her father s death loses her chance to kill him and outgrow from this but instead she is trapped in her childhood moments. The speaker is made to sound purposefully infantile and uses the informal word Daddy instead of the more formal Father. This shows that the speaker is stuck in her child like with her feelings for her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She said, thought even the bones would do (60). The speaker needs her father so bad that she is willing to die to be with him. Her attempt of her suicide was a failure. Later on, she tells her father she frees herself from him: I made a model of you, / A man in black with a Meinkampf look / and a love of the rack and the screw. / and I said I do, I do (64 67). • 8. Research Review Of New Horizons Research Paper A Trip to Pluto Synopsis: New Horizons is the first probe to get within 8000 miles of Pluto. We currently think our best shot at finding extraterrestrial life is Mars or Europa, but if New Horizon were to send us signs of life from Pluto, it would drastically change goals for the future of space exploration. A manned mission to Pluto might go from a distant dream to a top priority, but the challenges of such a journey are immense. The spacecraft must be able to travel to the outer reaches of the solar system safely and swiftly and life support must be able to keep the crew alive and well, both in transit and once they reach the planet. My story follows a manned mission to Pluto with a crew of 4 astronauts, and covers the technology needed to overcome the technical challenges of reaching the distant, icy dwarf planet. The topic I m focusing on for the purposes of this paper is propulsion and orbital mechanics, specifically, gravity assists, fusion engines and propulsive landers. One of the biggest problems with travelling to Pluto is simply summed up by the fact that it is very, very far away. Pluto has a highly elliptical orbit, so at different points in time it s closer and then further away from us (and the sun). In terms of distance from the sun, it s about 29.7 AU at the closest part of its orbit (the perihelion) and 49.3 AU at the furthest part (aphelion), leading to an average of 39.5 AU. • 9. Choice Theory Vs Reality Therapy Article Review and Critique Choice Theory may be applied to a wide array of persons and conflicts, the focus is on total behavior, which is based on four interacting needs present from birth to death (Seligman Reichenberg, 2014). Choice theory and Reality therapy correlate in that they both empower people to take control of their internal and external conflicts. Furthermore, Reality Therapy initiated by William Glasser in the 1960s is particularly useful in settings such as schools, correctional institutions, and substance use treatment programs that emphasize changing behavior (Seligman Reichenberg, 2014). In the article, Frequently Asked Questions and Not So Brief Answers: Part II, we are able to analyze the responses to two questions for teachers and therapists. Summary The questions presented in the article that will be further analyzed along with the significant role they present. The first one is, what is the role of the past in the practice of reality therapy? The next, does choice theory and reality therapy give attention to the outside world? In fact, reality therapy emphasizes on the recent past due to the fact that it is connected to the present situation. • 10. Narcissism In Shakespeare s Othello William Shakespeare once said, A fool thinks himself to be wise, but a wise man knows himself to be a fool. This idea can be easily applied to his play Othello. In this book Shakespeare writes of an individual, Iago, who thinks himself to be wise in his plan to get back at his superior, Othello, who kept a job opportunity from him. Iago schemes and plans not thinking about anyone else but himself and his goal to get himself promoted. Iago thinks he is smarter than everyone else and does not care about the consequences of his actions. Throughout the book, the reader learns that Iago has a grand sense of self, needs admiration while taking much pride in his accomplishments, and lacks empathy for the characters whose lives he affects. Accordingly, Iago considers himself a wise man, but the reader realizes hs is, in fact, a fool. Furthermore, The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders characterizes narcissism as a personality disorder under Cluster B of Personality Disorders. There are nine criteria characterizing narcissism, but in order to have a diagnosis of narcissism one must meet five of the nine criteria. The essential factor of a narcissistic personality disorder is a pattern of grandiosity (DSM 670), which means that the individual amplifies their achievements (DSM 669). According to the manual, narcissists also overestimate their abilities and inflate their accomplishments and often appear boastful and pretentious (DSM 670). In addition, ... • 11. Reality Television Is A Genre Of Programming When watching tv, we do not reality question what we watch or why we enjoy it. Simply, shows like The Bachelor and The Jersey Shore are the entertaining pieces we need to watch after a very long, stressful day. Not only is it comic relief, but these shows express drama, suspense, and laughter while pushing the element of morally and socially acceptable situations that keep the viewers fixated. These shows fit the definition of reality television. Going through the television guide, it is amazing to see how many different reality shows are out there. The reality genre involves three major categories: game shows, dating shows, and talent shows. In the United States, reality television now accounts for almost 70 to 80 percent of television viewership (Klien, 2013). However, reality television did not really exist until the 1900s. While there are a view shows showing back in the 1940s, it was not until the 1990s when reality viewing was a sensation. Reality television is a genre of programming that is unscripted real life situations featuring individuals during their lives and countless environments the audience can relate to. Reality tv technology is real time viewing of all the places the audience is not. It is the ultimate peek into a neighbor s kitchen window, or bedroom window at that matter (Slocum). Typically, the cast are not actors, although in some shows celebrities may participate. Over the decades, reality tv has become a phenomenon that some individuals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Inertial Navigation System ( Ins ) The inertial navigation system (INS) is a highly complex device which utilises very sensitive sensors to generate movement information and a computer to develop an algorithm of motion over time. The INS can be described as very sophisticated dread reckoning. The sensors which are used in an INS are accelerometers and gyroscopes which are further linked to a computer. The main consideration is that these highly sensitive and advanced sensors used in an INS still have errors from accuracy limitations in units of basic design or original outdated concepts. The accuracy can be improved with more complex and updated integration which includes the use of the better and more advanced components. To understand the errors associated with INS, a closer look into the flow of information is essential. The north facing accelerometer is mounted to a platform which is supported by gyroscopes. Any accelerations detected are given to the first stage integrator which uses the time component to develop velocity data. The second integrator uses the velocity data and time to calculate the distance travelled which is then added to the present position to generate a new present position. The system uses a backwards feedback loop of velocity data to the gyroscopes to make accelerometer platform perpendicular to the local gravity vector. This model is used for both north facing and east facing platforms and combined with the secant multiplier. The basic system designs would carry a greater error but ... • 13. Summary Of Collapse By Jared Diamond The book, Collapse, by Jared Diamond, is composed of many different societies and places that were know to be great and to this day remembered in our history, but soon subsided with nothing left but a few walls. The chapters each expel absorbent information about a specific, now collapsed, society or place. During the first month of a new year in 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt delivered a speech on the Four Freedoms to the 77th Congress of the United States of America (Andrzejczyk 64). Roosevelt s four freedoms became the lifeline of every citizen. Each of these freedoms have become a basic human fact. These freedoms became the backbone of the United States and are also included in the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights(author? 64). All citizens have been given the chance to make their own decisions and increase their quality of life. Everyone is given the tools to be able to achieve each of their dreams, gain more knowledge and globally expand networks. The first essential freedom that Roosevelt discussed was the right to freedom of speech. This freedom gave people the right to express themselves while omitting any caution, The people may also challenge laws that they believe infringe upon their right to freedom of expression (author? 64). This freedom crosses into gray matter where the internetis concerned because of how information on the Internet is monitored and removed if necessary. • 17. Gender Roles In Shakespeare s Twelfth Night By William... Jane Austen and WIlliam Shakespeare are writers that challenged traditional ways of literature and created various tales of perseverance through lead characters and important themes that are still studied to this day. Although the two authors are from different centuries, both examined the art of challenging genderroles in literature in order to achieve something greater. Back in the time periods of Shakespeare and Austen, the role that women were supposed to play were gentle and thought to have kept to their work in the house. Never were the women supposed to engage in work designed for men. Most of the time, the women grew up and were wed to a husband of the father s choosing, usually in some form of an agreement or deal between two families. However, Jane Austen and William Shakespeare wrote about two very important females who challenged the ideas of what a womanshould be, all in order to advance themselves without judgement that they were female. The two female characters portrayed in William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night and in Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudicechallenged gender roles and social expectations amidst great personal struggle, however were not able to gain independence to the benefit of their gender. After Europe had just emerged the war, many individuals believed that the world had become inhumane and chaotic. As a result, critics have argued that T.S. Eliot s The Waste Land was written to seek order in a disturbed world. Eliot s publication caused a significant impact on modern society and the literary world. Initially, the poem seems to be incoherent and fragmented; after readers have observed his poem, they are able to recognize Eliot s brilliantly unique and nontraditional use of techniques. His unconventional style, graphic imagery, and sheer inconsistency of the poem has greatly mystified and fascinated readers. While Eliot was writing The Waste Land, he was enduring times of personal difficulty, which was distinctively expressed in his poem. Thus, his work became a well known piece that expressed the mood of a postwar society, disillusioned by the loss of principles. Eliot decided to transform his poem, not only to demonstrate despair and misery, but to also seek the means to escape it. Consequently, T.S. Eliot s use of unconventional language and style allows his audience to get a glimpse of an attempt to represent the subject of human soul searching for redemption. T. S. Eliot s poem is a long and complex masterpiece that investigates the psychological, emotional and cultural disaster that was associated to the severely traumatic after effects of World War I. Different methods have different strengths and weaknesses. According to Ross (2009), the comparable transaction method is used and the strength is that it uses the historical actual transactions that are comparable to the Woolworths transaction, so that the valuation is justified by the market conditions. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, in the comparable transaction method, the expert uses the acquisition of Saks and acquisition of Neiman Marcus as comparable transactions. The methods are correct, as both of these are retailers. However, it is also important to realize the weakness, which is that these two companies do not have exactly the same products as David James. Another weakness is that the number of comparable transactions is too small and the multiples that are used for valuation vary considerably, so that large discrepancies are generated. The DCF method is a useful method. In this case the assumptions that are made in the DCF method are reasonable. The DCF also includes many different scenarios that are used for valuation. However, one of the major weaknesses of this is that the variation of valuation is very large. Therefore, it is reasonable to believe that although both methods are good for valuation purposes, the weaknesses generated could impact the accuracy of the results. The growth rate that is assumed in the DCF valuation is 2.5%, which is reasonable. According to Ross (2009), the growth rate of 2.5% matches the long term growth rate of the Australian economy and therefore it is justified. • 27. Reflection On Socialization The process of socialization must happen in order to raise a child from their own individual oriented lifestyle into one that will thrive within a diverse society. Though the child compromises aspects of their original, uncultured persona, the trade off is for the better: a needy child could attend school and gain independence, or an ornery toddler could learn the balance of actions and consequences through time outs. From what I have observed, effective socializationrequires that the child must primarily learn from others of the same general status and age, as well as be able to find their niche within the whole group to specialize their methods and actions accordingly. I personally witnessed socialization in action and how it may initially cause rifts within a child s psyche as they find their niche in their society. For example, last year I interned at a women s substance abuse rehabilitation center, concentrating on the resident children and their resulting behavioral tendencies. There was one 5 year old girl who I bonded notably closer to than all of the other kids. During behavioral therapy sessions, I discovered that exposure to alcohol in utero had led to her developing various emotional and attachment disorders. Her natural reaction to triggering situations or conflict was to scream and whine relentlessly until she got her way, so in therapy she was taught self soothing methods and practiced identifying her emotions in order to remedy her behavior. During counseling, she made tremendous progress, quickly seeming to understand the emotional concepts presented to her. However, when the morning therapy sessions were done, she would go to preschool and act out as if she learned nothing. One day, I was called into her classroom because she had allegedly struck a classmate after he stole a toy from her. I found her grinning guiltily while the boy sobbed on the floor beside her. Before I could intervene, a classmate of hers consoled the boy and invited him to play, all while ignoring her. As she observed her classmates interacting in this wholesome, benevolent manner, she was being socialized to react correctly to her emotions. The discrepancies of this historical figure is likely due to the subjective nature of record keeping during ancient Chinese history. While Emperor and the Assassin weaves a humanistic narrative of Qin Shi Huang, Hero hones in his ideology of peace and unification. Understanding the pathology of skin injury will bring effective treatments and wound healing outcomes. Several strategies like traditional skin grafts, certain biomaterials, and stem cell therapies are vital for current tissue injuries and the future of tissue regeneration. Introduction and Pathology The skin is said to be the largest organ in a human body. It is divided into 3 layers: epidermis (outer layer or superficial layer of the skin), dermis (connective tissue, hair follicles, and sweat glands), hypodermis (subcutaneous fat) (Chen, 2009). Stem cells are multipotent which give rise to multiple cell types and are known for their self renewing and tissue differentiation abilities. Research has shown SCs to have successful results in the field of skin regeneration (Duscher, 2016). SCs of interest for wound healing include adult mesenchymal stem cells (MSC s), embryonic stem cells (ESC s), and induced pluripotent stem cells (IPSC s). MSCs are isolated mainly from the bone marrow and other tissues such as adipose and nerve tissues and are administered locally as well as systemically with little to no immunoreactivity (Tartarini, 2016). MSCs regenerative benefits in wound injury is not seen in its structural capabilities rather it s seen in its escape of trophic mediators (Duscher, 2016). Bone marrow MSCs injected in wound sites produce high amounts of collagen and growth factors leading to faster healing, epithelialization, angiogenesis, and cellularity (Duscher, 2016). Studies also show that bone marrow derived MSCs injected in injury sites had decreased wound size, increased vascularity and dermal thickness (Duscher, 2016). Although MSCs for wound therapy has been proven effective and well tolerated in patients, there still seems to be limitations such as invasiveness of their harvest, cost of resources, and hazards that deal with growing cell cultures to attain healing ... • 37. Vietnam Air Pollution And China s Economic Development... Chinese Air Pollution History of Air Pollution in China During the 1980s, China underwent a series of industrial changes leading to severe air pollution (Chen, Ebenstein, Greenstone, Li, 2013; Chen, Kan, Chen, Jiang, Hong, 2011; Kan, London, Chen, Zhang, Song, Zhao, Chen, 2007; Schmidt, Olicker, 2004). As industries in large cities expanded, the resources required to manufacture goods produced pollution in the air (Chen, Ebenstein, Greenstone, Li, 2013; Chen, Kan, Chen, Jiang, Hong, 2011; Kan, London, Chen, Zhang, Song, Zhao, Chen, 2007; Schmidt, Olicker, 2004). Over the years China continues to be one of the top manufactures in the world, making industries increase their revenue demands. Although this change has assisted in China s economic development and growth, it has also damaged the environment these individuals live in. Industries in China have no mandatory rules and regulations that forces companies to control what is released into the air. Thus, greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide are released freely causing severe damages in the environment (Chen, Ebenstein, Greenstone, Li, 2013; Chen, Kan, Chen, Jiang, Hong, 2011; Kan, London, Chen, Zhang, Song, Zhao, Chen, 2007. In terms of air pollution, China even seems to be surpassing other countries globally (World Health Organization, 2010). Yablon means there are some bills that would limit the access to guns as well as bills that would prevent the enforcement of restrictions on guns. Board of Education, resulted in the overturning of the separate, but equal doctrine under the realization that separation is what took away the equality. In the early 1950s, schools in Topeka, Kansas segregated people by race, leaving Linda Brown and her sister to walk through a hazardous railroad switchyard to get to the bus stop for their school. There was a school closer to where they lived, however, it was an all white school. Linda and her family saw the segregation systems as a violation of the Fourteenth Amendment and took it to court. Federal district courts claimed the segregation was harmful to African Americanyouths, however due to the similar qualities the all black and all white schools shared, it was deemed fully constitutional under the separate, but equal doctrine. The case was taken to the Supreme Court and the court expressed that even though the schools shared similar facilities, segregated schools could never be equal. As such, the separate, but equal doctrine was overruled as it violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. This decision resulted in the precedent that any laws that segregated people, no matter how similar their facilities may be, was unconstitutional.(Paraphrased from www.streetlaw.org) One way the two cases are linked is through their subject matter; that being segregation and racial discrimination. The research was conducted by Dr. Sian Beilock and her colleagues. Beilock is an associate professor of psychology at the University of Chicago and an expert in, choking under pressure. Choking under pressure, refers to the phenomenon that occurs when one performs below his or her ability or skill level during an especially challenging task or experience. Beilock has also written a book entitled Choke: What the Secrets of the Brain Reveal About Getting It Right When You Have To. According to Psych Central, Beilock has done prior research that has shown pressure filled experiences or situations may reduce working memory, which is part of the brain s processing power. Our working memories allow us to recall information needed to perform everyday tasks. However, working memory has limited processing power, so when worries creep up, the ability to recall and retrieve information becomes limited. Prior research has also indicated expressive writing where individuals write about emotional or traumatic experiences repeatedly over weeks decreases worries in individuals who are depressed. The current study aimed to determine if writing in a classroom could help students perform better on tests. Additionally, the researchers hypothesized that just one opportunity to write before taking a test would reduce worries and improve exam scores.
