The New York City Subway System
The New York City Subway System has an extremely rich and detailed history that dates to the late
nineteenth century. Before the system that the public currently takes advantage of when they visit
New York City, there were an extensive amount of public transportation options that were
available to the general public. For example, horse and carriages, omnibuses, and trolley systems
were all used as a means of transportation throughout the nineteenth century. Once the idea for a
subway system to be built was introduced, most people did not believe that it was possible.
However, they were soon proven wrong after Alfred E. Beach secretly built the first subway
system that was used in New York City. Once people saw that subterranean travel was a viable
means of transportation, it did not take long until the subway system that is used today to come
along. The New York City subwaysystem revolutionized the way the general public traveled
throughout the city, and inspired other growing cities to build subterranean travel systems of
their own. In 1827, Abraham Bower created the first public transportation route that was used in
New York City. Bower used a twelve seat stage coach, called Accommodation , that ran its riders
along Broadway Street from the Battery down to Bleecker Street. While this was not the most
comfortable of rides due to the rough roads, it was still popular by the public. By 1831, due to its
popularity, Bower had added two more stage coaches called Sociable

Different Perspectives In Dickens And Charles Dickens s...
If we want to make changes in our Lives, then we will have to look at the causes and the way we
are using our minds, the way we are thinking. For, No two things can occupy the same space at
the same time. You can t have a positive thought hold on to the negative one. Choose one.
~Louise Hay. We all have the will and heart, the courage and braveness to let go of the past and
to learn from it, and not to dwell in it. So, after all how can something, be both positive and
Negative at the same time. Well in a very simple way of putting it, an event can be both positive
and negative at the same time. It all comes down on what perspectiveyou are seeing the event from.
For, different perspectives can show us stories in a whole other way and in a whole new light.
During the book Tale of Two Cities written by Charles Dickens, you could see this view in many
different ways. First, you could see how Carton spend a lot of time criticizing himself and
imagining that he would never be able to change. This caused him to not even try and to just
live life, in a sad state. Next, sacrifice can be positive and it usually means to have new
beginnings. On the other hand, you are usually losing something dear to you, which hurts you for
the rest of your life. That is why, no one should dwell in the past, but learn from it and move on.
Lastly, courage could be a positive and at the same time a negative aspect. It all depends on our
own personal perspective, or viewpoint.
It was the best

Soviet Nuclear Scientist, Dissident and Human Rights Activist
Soviet Nuclear Scientist, Dissident and Human Rights Activist
Dr. Andrei Sakharov was a leading developer of Soviet nuclear weapons. As he progressed
through life he began working towards international peace and basic human freedoms for the
people of the Soviet Union. In recognition of this work, Dr. Sakharov was awarded the Nobel
Prize for Peace. Dr. Sakharov s contributions to the Soviet weapons program and his public
communications of the dangers of nuclear weapons helped to prevent nuclear war between the US
and Soviet super powers.
Andrei Sakharov was born in Moscow on May twenty first, 1921 to a well educated Russian
family. His father was a physics teacher and Andrei was home schooled until the equivalent of the
seventh grade. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The 1963 Test Ban Treaty signed in Moscow by the US, the USSR, and the United Kingdom,
banned all nuclear weapons tests in the atmosphere, in outer space and underwater, but allowed the
tests to continue underground.
Sakharov spoke out and wrote letters in support of Soviet activists. In 1970 Sakharov, with
Soviet dissidents Valery Chalidze and Andrei Tverdokhlebov, founded the Moscow Human
Rights Committee (Gorelik, The Human Rights Movement). Sakharov called for amnesty for
political prisoners, freedom for Soviet Jews to migrate to Israel and autonomy for the Ukraine.
Sakharov pushed for reconciliation between socialist and capitalist nations and advocated
democratic freedoms in the Soviet Union. He attended political trials and staged protests
outside. During one protest he met his second wife Elena Bonner. Sakharov was awarded the
Nobel Peace Prize in 1975, the first Russian to get this honor. Sakharov spoke out publicly
against the Soviet interference in the Afghanistan civil war and in 1980, he was stripped of his
decorations and awards as a Soviet and detained and along with his wife Elena Bonner. He was
exiled to Gorky for almost seven years during which he went on a hunger strike and isolated from
any contact with the outside world for 200 days. While at Gorky he wrote his memoirs three times

Financial Crisis After The Great Depression
2008 Financial Crisis Not since the great depression was there such a devastating economic
crisis as the 2008 financial crisis. A crisis rooted from the burst of the housing bubble in the U.S.
thus leading to the government being brought down, ruined economies, crumbled financial
corporations and impoverish lives of numerous individuals. As reported in McClean and Nocera
s All the Devils Are Here: The Hidden History of the Financial Crisis, the seeds of [the] financial
disaster were sown more than thirty years ago when three smart, ambitious men, working
sometimes in concert allies in a cause they all believed in and sometimes in opposition
competition trying to gain advantage over each other created a shiny new financial vehicle
called the mortgage backed security (McClean and Nocera). Therefore, the mortgage backed
security (MBS) is essentially the sole reason or seed that lead to the financial crisis. However,
the mortgage backed security is not totally to blame on Wall Street as it s not something that Wall
Street did entirely on its own. As the United States government aided and abetted them in certain
circumstances in which they changed laws to allow the fraudulent ways of the people on Wall
Street to continue on ( The Fall of the Market ). Ultimately, when Wall Street took part in the
financial sector its focus was to broaden the appeal of securities to wider range of investors to
create more capital for itself. The development of mortgage backed securities

High Consumption Of Junk Food Essay
Introduction:
Obesity affects more than 640 million people globally. In addition, the world s population becomes
over 3 pounds heavier each decade (Encarnação et al., 2016). According to a global study
conducted by several public health professors in London, England, by 2025, 18% of men and 21%
of women will become obese (Encarnação et al., 2016). All over the world, individuals are
consuming large amounts of foods high in salt, fat and sugar due to low costs and easy
accessibility. High consumption of junk food is detrimental to human health and has resulted in the
consideration of junk food taxes all over the world in order to defeat the current obesity epidemic
(Encarnação et al., 2016). Governments all over the world should tax foods and beverages that
are high in fat, simple sugars and salt because obesity is a rising global issue and junk food taxes
will help to decrease obesity rates, reduce disease and raise revenue, which will ultimately result in
a healthier and happier generation of people.
Arguments for your position:
First of all, taxing foods high in fat, simple sugars and salt will reduce obesity rates significantly.
Secondly, the taxation of junk food will help reduce disease, which will lead to increased health
and happiness of todays generation of people.
Lastly, taxing junk food will lead to a rise in revenue, which will contribute to the health and
happiness of individuals and reduce the rising global issue of obesity.
Although junk food taxes have

The Issue Of Horse Slaughter
In today s world dogs may very well be considered man s best friend, but in the days of old horses
weren t just man s best friend, they were the most important tool in his possession. From being a
form transportation to being used in competitions and battles to even being a source of food,
horses have always been an iconic figure in American history. Movies such as The Horse
Whisperer, Dreamer, and Flicka portray horses as majestic and powerful creatures full of grace
and beauty that are much more of a companion than a tool. This is quite possibly why the topic of
horse slaughter has been such a taboo in today s culture. While in many countries around the world
horsemeat is considered a type of delicacy, to most American s the idea of eating these exquisite
creatures is hard to stomach. There are people who see no wrong in slaughtering horses just like
any other livestock animal, though others find it inhumane and cruel. Those who are pro slaughter
have many practical and economic reasons for supporting it, while those opposed have ethical
issues against it.
Proponents of the horse slaughter industry suggest it creates a source of income for many horse
owners. Horses are very expensive to own with the average annual cost of a horse being
approximately $3,876 per horse (Williams). Many horses are unwanted for several reasons, either
they don t have the potential the owner originally thought or they have gotten too old for work or
the horse may even be dangerous to be

The Afterlife In The Egyptian Book Of The Dead
The Egyptian Book of the Dead refers to a collection of ancient papyri and scrolls used for
funerary, ritual purposes in the ancient Egyptian world. Its purpose and accessibility has evolved
across the centuries, from its first known use in the Old Kingdom c.1240 BCE until the final
days of its production in the second century CE. The Book of the Dead is not actually a
completed book , but rather it is a collation of the various instructions gathered from the tombs of
Pharaohs, priests, high ranking officials and the social elite. Although the most important spells
were originally reserved for the upper class, eventually The Book of the Dead became popularised
among society and by the New Kingdom was generally common among funerary ceremonies. There
are around 192 magic spells contained in the Book, many containing subsections and all of them
varying in length and detail. Each spell pertains to a specific step in the passage through the Duat
(the Underworld) into the afterlife. The Book of the Dead tells us much about the importance of

This is because the texts were originally only created for a specific individual, such as a Pharaoh,
and this therefore led to many variations between the spells. It is only in the 26th dynasty, known
as the Saite period, where a process of standardisation began to take place, and there is a certain
organisation of the Book of the Dead into chapters. Generally, the Book is divided into four
sections: Chapters 1 16 explain the descent into the underworld; chapters 17 63 detail the origin
of the gods and the reanimation of the mummified body; chapters 64 129 describe the deceased s
journey across the sky with the morning sun as a blessed dead , and the judgment of Osiris; and

An Analysis Of The Poem Lay Like The Folds Of A Loud
Question 1: What tone is created in the first six lines of the first stanza? Identify and discuss
poetic devices and stylistic elements (such as the use of punctuation) that help the poet to create
this tone. The tone created in the first stanza is calm and peaceful. This is reinforced by the
sound devices used in the poem. The use of punctuation and the length of each line causes the
reader to naturally pause after every bit of information. This is effectively done by the use of
commas and points. It is also made through the use of enjambment that takes place in line 2. A
certain power element is also given to the sea which forms a contrast between the peaceful and
calm element, this effect is increased by the use of poetic devices such as alliteration. An example
in the stanza is: Gleams and is gone... (Line 4) To extend the tone of power, the... Show more

You hear the grating roar (Line 8) Question 2: Identify the simile and the metaphor in the third
stanza, and discuss their effectiveness in creating the poet s meaning. The simile and metaphor
found in stanza three is found in line 24: Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furled (Line 24) It
is effective by creating imagery to match the meaning of the previous line, by describing faith as
something that was full, round and everywhere, being bound strongly together, possibly by
other people s belief, being represented by the buckle, allowing faith to bring people together,
and strengthen a society, forming part of a whole, a circle, as opposed to loose ends. A further
metaphor and simile can be found earlier in the stanza in line 21: The Sea of faith (Line 24) This,
the sea, thus represents religion or the different religions. It can be taken further by saying that the
different oceans or beaches represent the different religions of the world, but the fact that it is still
one entity , means that we as people are still one. Question

Victim Oriented Approach In Law Enforcement
In cities and towns across the country, tragic deaths of citizens in confrontations with police have
have spiked a wave of distrust for law enforcement. The bad perception for law enforcement is
unfair to the officer s who are dedicated, and mean well in their duties, yet unfortunately, it has

recent deaths and confrontations, reform proposals and new policies have been a national

Art From Baroque Period Through The Postmodern Era Essay
Art from Baroque Period through the Postmodern Era
Renaissance art history began as civic history; it was an expression of civic pride. The first such
history was Filippo Villani s De origine civitatis Florentiae et eiusdem famosis civibus, written
about 1381 82. Florentine artists revived an art that was almost dead, Villani asserts, just as Dante
had restored poetry after its decline in the Middle Ages. The revival was begun by Cimabue and
completed by Giotto, who equalled the ancient painters in fame and even surpassed them in skill
and talent. After Giotto came his followers, Stefano, Taddeo Gaddi, and Maso, uomini illustri all,
who, together with notable jurists, poets, musicians, theologians, physicians, orators, and others,
made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These texts are among the handful that treat art in the early Florentine Renaissance and are,
therefore, precious testimony from the early years of Renaissance art history. While rare for being
texts on art, they are of a type, however, that was common in Renaissance literature. They belong
to a genre or category in which are found some of the most characteristic texts of Renaissance
humanism. Other of the books in this category are by such writers as Bruni, Salutati, and Manetti,
books with which all students of the Renaissance are familiar. They treat broad moral and
philosophical issues, but, as in the accounts of visual art, only insofar as they concern the city of
Florence. And scholars reasonably have asked why there was such a preoccupation with Florence
at this time. One of those who did so was Hans Baron and his answer has been at the center of
discussions of this question since the 1950s.
Baron linked the focus on Florence during the years around 1400 to a struggle over Florentine
independence that began in 1390 with a declaration of war by Milan and ended only in 1454, when
Milan accepted the independent status of the Florentine Republic. These events, he proposed,
explain the direction taken by Florentine political speculation at this time, particularly the stress on
republican ideals of liberty and civic involvement; they gave rise to a

Physical Contact In Olympic Hockey
Did you know that woman can t check or have any physical contact in olympic hockey! Hi I will
be showing you guys some similarities and differences between NHL hockey and Olympic hockey.
Here is some history about the sport of hockey, hockey is the oldest ball and stick game, it dates
back to 2000 BC in persia, the name hockey comes from the french hocquet or shepards crook
which is a crooked stick used to hit a ball, ice hockey was introduced into the olympics in 1920,
the first all women s team played in the 1998 olympics. Man that was some interesting
background history now we will move on to some events that are different between the two. In
the NHL there is no 1st, 2nd, or 3rd there can only be 1 winner unlike the olympic hockey you
can win 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The awards are different too like in the NHL you win MVP(Most
valuable player), Stanley Cup, and the Conn Smythe Trophy, the player awarded for the conn
smythe trophy is the most valuable player for the season. There are 21 total trophies players can
get awarded arranging from MVP to the National cup. Did you know that Canada has won 8 gold
medals and is the current holder for most hockey medals in the olympics. Now i will be telling you

rinks are 210 feet long and 98 feet wide. In the NHL teams can dress 18 players and 1 goalie on the
ice, but in the Olympics you can have 2 goalies on ice and dress 20 players, another weird rules
are goalies can t play the puck behind the net, if they do they will get a 2 minute minor for
goaltender infraction, but in the olympics goalies can play the puck behind the net. Now we will

When I was seven years old I made a huge discovery about science. I realized that everything that
surrounds me; the tree in my yard, the house that I live in, and the chair that I am sitting in right
now are made of the same exact materials that I am made of! I made this discovery whilst I was
discussing science with my dad. Earlier that day, at schoolwe had been talking about molecules and
how they were made of atoms. My dad often likes to extend my understanding of subjects which
I study at school, which is what he was doing that day. Since we had discussed atoms and
molecules in school my dad had decided to go a little further with me, and talk about what atoms
were made of. This led us to the subject of protons, neutrons and electrons. Over the course of the
next few days he taught me the basics of what I have now come... Show more content on

me up, like he did everyday. I rushed over to him and asked him when we could talk, Later, be
patient he replied. I opened the car door, and jumped in, closing the door after myself. My dad
got into the car, and we started on the short drive home. The whole ride I was bouncing up and
down in my seat in anticipation. When I finally got home, my dad gave in to me and said we
could talk about string theory. We sat down and he explained string theory to me. He then
explained how strings could be what protons, neutrons and electrons. This is about when I made

Literary Analysis of Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening The Poem Stopping by the
Woods on a Snowy Evening is one of the classic poems penned down by Robert Frost. Looking at
the poem at first glance, it is simply about what is implied on its heading the speaker is stopping
by the woods on a snowy evening. The author describes vividly how the speaker, on his way
home, stops by the woods and takes in the mesmerizing scenery. He is clearly torn between
staying at the woods longer so he can continue enjoying the breathtaking scenery with the snow
falling all around him or continue on his journey. However, despite the compelling allure for
him to move further into the woods and experience a bit more of the deep and dark silence in the
air, he decides to carry on with his journey since he still has things to do. He says to himself but I
have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep. But such a view of the poem is
straightforward and somehow superficial. By focusing on the literal meaning on the surface of the
poem, most people fail to recognize the deep inclinations and secret motivations that Frost conveys
through his clever and intriguing word play that renders a diversity of meaning. The poem must
mean more than just a traveler appreciating the beauty of nature. It might be a deep metaphor that
represents something else which trumpets the love for nature. To get a deeper understanding of this
classic and phenomenal

I stared out of the empty window, remembering my childhood and how happy I would be when
snow would come. Now snow means winter and winter never fails to remind me of you. I
remember the way you would laugh at every joke I would tell and how wide your smile would
become when you heard about something you love or saw something beautiful. I blinked and was
wide eyed into the snow. It was bright and seemed so beautiful, but cold to the touch. Kind of like a
person.
I moved away from the cold window and tied my hair up. The house was lonely but the warmth
of the coffee and my sweatshirt made me feel cozy here. I liked the quietness and simplicity of the
place. Yet, I still couldn t get you off of my mind, no matter how hard I try it was impossible. ...

Thrasymachus And Socrates Justice
Socrates and Thrasymachus: What is Justice? What is justice? This is the common refrain
throughout Plato s Republic. As a work of philosophy, Republic attempts to answer this question by
posing thought provoking conversations between Socrates and the characters he meets in his
travels. These characters serve as foils and counterpoints to Socrates and his own interpretation of
justice. Perhaps the most interesting counterpoint to Socrates comes in the conversation with
Thrasymachus, a skeptical Sophist who rejects a simple vision of what is just. Thrasymachus
rejects a hard definition of justice and argues that justice is fluid and a product of society, and while
Socrates makes reasonable counters to Thrasymachus, I ultimately side... Show more content on

interest should be the welfare of the people he rules, just as a doctor should be concerned for the
welfare of his patients. Yes, the doctor is paid for his work just as the ruler is paid to rule, but
their reason for being paid is to serve the interests of their people. But Thrasymachus ironically
applauds the potential for rulers to abuse their people, mocking Socrates and his interpretation of
justice as prone to exploit by

The Interdependence Of Folklore
Folklore is never just folklore. Folklore is the sharing of the experiences and occurrences that are
part of our everyday lives. Whether intentional or not, everyone is involved in the creation,
transmission, performance and assimilation of folklore. Folklore is perhaps the oldest mode of
disseminating human knowledge and information through attitudes, habits, social customs,
traditions, and consciously, through the arts of music, poetry, drama, visual arts, literature and film.
Folklore contextualizes culture. It is the symbiont, which contributes to and borrows from both
language and culture. The interdependence of these three is epitomized by the relationship of the
expression of folkore through language and the moulding of language ... Show more content on

we can perceive the people s motivations and sources of psychology renewal, which lead to new
ways of living.
Folk literature also known as verbal art or expressive literature is a broad genre of folklore which
is always concerned with the literary traditions handed down by word of mouth from generation to
generation. Folk literature is still popular among the Khasis and is treated as an important piece of

The Pros And Cons Of The Confederate Flag
It sure seems like hypocrisy to say we can t fly the Confederate flag because it offends people,
when you fly the gay flag, which certainly offends significant amount of people. Who gets to
decide which flag is allowed to fly and which ones can t? It may be true some racists have used
the Confederate flag, but racists also wave the American flag. So another words the Confederate
is NOT racists, us Americans also wave around a flag (the American flag) so why should us
American say it is racist that they are waving around their flag when we are waving around our

There may come a day when the blatantly racist meaning of the flag fades away along with the
scars of integration. Until that day comes, the responsibility falls upon Confederate flag fliers to
explain what it means to them. As for the rest of us, we should keep an open mind, about a
symbol that has stood for so much to so many, be it right or wrong.Taking down the Confederate
flag does not mean supporters of the flag have lost. It s a message that we refuse to allow the
people who use the flag as a symbol of hate to divide us. We may never completely agree on

Social Networking in Business
Abstract Businesses today are growing more aware of trends in social and business networking
to assist them in growing, developing products, services and the advertising to draw consumers
to them in ever increasing numbers. Social Networking in Business Many businesses are using
social networking to see what consumers are saying about products and what will likely be
purchased by people. Companies such as Pizza Hut, Papa John s and Sears are using networking
sites. Someone can become a fan of Papa John s on Facebook.com or follow them on Twitter.com
and receive discounts on pizza. Pizza Hut has a blog on Twitter for people to make comments and
access codes for discounts; there is also a link for the Pizza Hut main site.... Show more content on

Many of the entrepreneurs on the sites help each other find tools for advertising, marketing lists
and items to help the business succeed. Even at times there is emotional support when a business
owner is having problems in their personal life. Others connected with Elygantthings.com try to
help each other cope. Support is very important when just starting a business and even if
someone has been in business a long time. Sometimes having discussions between other business
owners helps in getting past a difficult time whether related to business or personal difficulties.
Social networking is important to me for my future business because it will help in establishing a
concrete presence for my company. Starting and maintaining a professional blog on Twitter or
other places such as that will help to get the company name out there for people to see. Potential
customers will understand what my business encompasses; also types of services or products
readily available to them before and after a purchase. It would help me when dealing with shippers
and suppliers in running my business efficiently. In the scheme of things, I want to let people know
what I believe in and how the company will work with them on any interactions with them.

Community College Geography Essay
The Grand Rapids Community College Geography program is a rigorous program that educates
students on the world around them. At first glance, I assumed that majoring in Geography would
be a waste of time and money, however it is quite the contrary. GRCC is the home of one of the
best Geography Programs found at a United States community college. Each semester almost every
available seat in the Geographyprogram is filled by students who are excited to learn. GRCC
offers in person, online, and hybrid classes to accommodate every student s needs. After students
complete their associate s degree, they are able to transfer their credits to colleges and
universities all over Michigan where they can complete their bachelor s degree. Many people are
unaware of the many avenues that a degree in Geography can open up to. The Bureau of Labor
Statistics claim that over half of Geography students work for federal agencies where they can

Mexican War
Daniel Timi His. 201 United States History to 1865 Professor Margiotta
The Mexican American War began on April 25, 1846. This placed the first U.S. armed conflict
chiefly fought on foreign soil. It marked politically dividend and militarily unprepared Mexico
against its expansionists minded administration of U.S. President James K. Polk. Polk strongly
believed the United States had an evident future to go across the continent in the Pacific Ocean. The
border encountered along the Rio Grande, which began with a fight, followed by a series of
numerous victories the United States. When the dust cleared, Mexico had lost roughly one third of
its region. The regions included all the states such as Arizona, New Mexico, California, and Utah.
At the end of the U.S. Mexican War, historians have divided into their explanations. Some historians
hold United States accountable while others put the blame on Mexico. The studies of the literature
show majority of writers have taken into consideration that neither country entirely unimpeachable.
Throughout the Mexican War there are several of causes, some which were minor and others of

The Knights Of The Golden Circle
The Knights of the Golden Circle (KGC) originally began in the arrangements of the Southern
Rights Clubs in the mid 1830s. KGC was a secret society in the United States with the original
objective to annex a golden circle of territories in Mexico, northern South America, Central
America, and Cuba and the rest of the Caribbean for enclosure in the United States as slave
states. After branching off from the Southern Rights Clubs, KGC reorganized in Lexington,
Kentucky, by five men, on July 4, 1854. Evidence advocates that Albert Pike (1809 1891) was
the mastermind behind the KGC. Whereas Gen. George W. L. Bickley (1819 1876), was
considered the societies chief organizer and leading promoter. The overall goal for the Knights
of the Golden Circle was to become the most prevailing secret and revolutionary organization in
the history of the United States with supporters in every state and territory before the end of the
Civil War. The primary economic and political goal of this group was to produce a wealthy,
slave holding Southern Empire spreading in the shape of a circle from their projected capital at
Havana, Cuba, through the southern states of the United States, the Gulf of Mexico, Mexico,
Central America, and the Caribbean. The plan also called for the attainment of Mexico which was
then to be separated into fifteen new slave holding states. The purpose of this being to move the

One of the things I don t agree with in Eisner s style of being an idea generator is how these

Subject: Financial Incentives to Expand Solar Power Adoption in the United States
Recommended Action
The lack of a nationwide solar power policy, alongside significant technical hurdles, hinders the
progress of renewable energy across the United States of America. Strengthen national policies by
introducing financial incentives for research, development, and manufacturing that tackle technical
challenges to the growth of renewable energy. Incentives such as tax breaks, low interest rate loans,

In addition, expanding the solar energy industry will spur job growth. Consumers want to adopt
solar energy because its price is less vulnerable than many other energy sources, like petroleum, to
global politics. Limited solar energy storage technologies present the main technical challenge of
solar. Current battery capacities are inadequate to store captured solar energy. Moreover, seasonal
variability in solar radiation and power demand peaks require the provision of adequate storage to
make solar power a practical, large scale energy source. It is also difficult to connect solar energy
to the current grids in America. The regulatory challenges involve governing access to the power
grid, creating and implementing legal structures for local ownership, and protecting local owners
against larger utility companies concerned with their market share.
By focusing on grid parity and technical challenges through financial incentives, the United States
will increase its usage of and benefits derived from solar energy usage. The financial incentives
support both consumers and suppliers to adopt and develop solar energy. If the new solar energy
supplies cost the same or less than previous energy because of these incentives achieving grid
parity then consumers will have fewer reasons not to switch to solar energy. If suppliers can

Dealing with Change in Life
We all have dealt with change at one point in our life. Change comes in many ways from having
a new baby being born to transitioning to a new career. What I call this is forces of change.
Secondly is how we process that change. It may simple and it may not be simple. Lastly once you
process the change you are then able to manage change. If you manage change you will not be as
stressed if you let it take over you.
Change is never when you are ready. Yes you may plan to move to a new home or new state but
you are still dealing with stress. The majority of us have change come to us when we are not
ready. The most change that we have in our life is that of careerchange or work changes. We see it
every day businesses may close or merge with another business. This is a big deal because
people need to look for a new job or plan to retire. This change would be consider planned change.
(Nelson Quick, 2013 p.668). Another change is that when managers are changed at your job.
Managers come and go in a company. Many managers will move up in the company and many
will pursue a different career. This is tough for employees to deal with because they get use to
working in one direction until someone new comes in. This is consider to be unplanned change.
(Nelson Quick, 2013 p668). Many companies do change as a globalize style. To me having a
globalize style of change is planned and unplanned. I say this because the company knows where
they are moving or when they are moving, but no one

From blast furnaces to highly efficient electric arc furnaces, the steel industry has seen
advancements in both technology and range of product versatility (The Industrial Revolution n.d.).
Steel is closely linked to the ferrous scrap industry and the iron ore industry in that its main raw
materials are derived from these areas. Because of its chemical properties, steel does not have high
product substitutability; therefore world s economies have long been depending on its extensive use.
1.4 Early Market Structure of the Steel Industry
Following the post war era of the WWII, steel distribution remained mainly focused on the former
USSR, US, and Western European countries. In 1960s, the emergence of Japan as a potential steel
manufacturer surfaces, making changes to the early dominant structure of the steel market in the
50s. ECSC (European Coal and Steel Community) was by then the world s greatest exporter of
steel. It was a collusion of developed western countries in an attempt to create a shared market.
Other strong forces were the U.S. Steel Company and later on the ex USSR. This particular period
of the industry was founded on the basis of new technologies, extensive mining and abundant
production (Medeiros 2006). Between 1960 and 1974, a growth of 5.5% per annum was keeping
the industry on top (World Steel Industry n.d.).

Caroll also hints that Queen Victoria is most likely to convict an innocent man or woman to

accentuating the fact that Queen Victoria is ruthless and vicious when it pertains to punishments.
Not only Queen Victoria is known for her overbearing attitude, she can juxtapose due to her love
for punishment and judging a crime unfairly just like the Queen of Hearts. You may go, said the
King, to the Hatter hurriedly left the court, without even waiting to put his shoes on and just take

Examining Four Types of Diversity Essay examples
While diversity is often a term used to refer specifically to cultural differences, diversity applies to
all the qualities that make people different. From a management perspective, the key to diversity is
to understand how different types of diversity and different demographic characteristics can impact
human behavior. The four types of diversity that will be examined are: occupation, differences in
skills and abilities, personality traits, and value and attitudes. For each type of diversity, the impact
on individualbehavior will be described.
One type of diversity is occupation. For example, an individual in a professional occupation is

The same employee may have had close relationships with subordinates before they became
supervisor. This example shows how occupation impacts behavior and how a change in position
can alter individual behavior. The next type of diversity is differences in skills and abilities. One
of the most important factors when considering skills and abilities is that individuals will often
adapt their behavior so they are making use of what they consider their positive skills and
abilities. For example, consider the case of an individual who believes that they have very
effective written communication skills but very poor oral communication skills. This individual is
likely to adapt his or her behavior so they write as much as possible, while avoiding communicating
orally. As a specific example, this individual might prepare memos or write emails as a way of
communicating with their employees, instead of having a meeting with employees. This illustrates
how people tend to adapt their behavior so they are using their positive qualities, while avoiding
having to use their weaker skills and abilities. Another type of diversity is personality traits.
Personality traits are defined as recurring patterns of behavior such as friendliness, social
dominance, conventionality, emotional adjustment, and aesthetic inclination (Seamon Kenrick,
1994). As this definition shows, personality traits are actually defined because of the observed
behavior they result in. The link

Natural Preservative Research

Food preservation has been, and continues to be a fundamental aspect of our society. As we shift
from consuming the foods produced on our own land to store bought items, we are beginning to
rely more on natural and artificial products to keep the food we consume visually appealing and to
prolong decomposition by microbes. In order to achieve this, companies and individuals alike have
turned to the preservative qualities natural substances provide to ensure the extended duration of
their food. Most commonly, we see the use of salt, sugar, acetic acid, citric acid, and extracts in the

The Inclusion And Exclusion Criteria Essay
Following the inclusion and exclusion criteria, six studies (published between 2002 and 2015) have
been found to meet the standards and thus included in the current comparative analysis. Table 1
summarizes these studies in terms of their characteristics, with the original United States study
(Cialdini et al., 1976) included for comparison. It can be noted that while most of the studies are
situated in the context of a sporting event (i.e. boxing, basketball, football) and how fans reacted to
the outcomes of these games, two replications extend BIRG into the display of political affiliations
during national elections (Boen et al., 2002) and the act of basking in peer popularity and
likeability (J. K. Dijkstra, Cillessen, Lindenberg, Veenstra, 2010). Similarly, the replications were
done in Asian (Japan, Philippines), European (Belgium, France), and Middle Eastern (Israel)
countries. The last replication is part of a larger study which has been fielded in multiple countries,
involving Caucasian, Indonesian, and Antillian/Aruban studentsamples among others (J. K. Dijkstra
et al., 2010).
BIRG in sports and fan behavior
The first set of replications to be discussed follows in Cialdini et al. s (1976) focus on how fans
reacted to the outcomes of sporting events in which the teams they ardently supported either won or
lost (Wann Branscombe, 1990). Perhaps, the great representation of sporting events in the current

The Fool In King Lear Essay
Authenticity of civility aside, words, no matter the motivation behind them, leave a lasting
effect on the people who read or hear them. King Lear stresses how words can be used to
victimize people behind a veneer of legitimacy. Regan, Goneril, and Edmund in the opening
scenes use words as a tool to fulfill their agendas when the three use kind words to disguise their
objectives. In Act I, Scene I, the sisters give Lear moving speeches to win over his love, but once
he leaves their true personalities start to surface when they do not show Cordelia any sympathy for
her banishment (Shakespeare, 24). This instance illustrates that even the most evil people can

The last words of Oswald the servant and the duke of Cornwall share similarities, despite the
character s different statuses. Cornwall orders for the servant who stabbed him to be thrown

indirectly to the chthonic gods who have dictated that the dead body must covered with earth

so much that the people present mistake his death for fainting. The emotional intensity of Lear s
death resonates in Edgar as his reaffirms the theme of genuine words when he recites the last

Dr. Adams Authority
The western worlds of Academia and the Media operate on a set of attitudinal presuppositions. They
believe It is our responsibility to question everything , and to remember that the ultimate authority
depends on the credulity of the reader, not on the message of the narrator . Dr. Adams tries to point
back to the author as the authority, not the critic, and in this he is ultimately successful.
Authority is both a problem for us today, unwilling to be manipulated towards a hierarchical

Impact On Technology And Technology
The development of technology is upon the many fields of knowledge, including historical,
language learning, mathematical, etc. Every single moment of our day is affected due to the
inventions of years ago, from turning on a light switch to cooking breakfast. An invention that still
affects us today and will continue to do so is a computer. Although the computer continues to
modernize as time goes by, it has positively impacted the way a student s technology literacy
knowledge and skills are developed for professional success. Writing tools, such as pen and paper,
has modernized to meet our essential needs in a classroom environment. Technology continues to
advance so much that we could not live a day without it like a writer cannot live without writing.
Although personal computers were not initially meant for word processing either, through that has
become one of their primary functions (Baron 646). When computers were first introduced in a
classroom environment, teachers feared students would forget how to properly spell, but now
teachers complain if students do not double check their spelling when turning in their papers. A

Taking a Look at Marian Anderson
Successful classical soprano performer Leontyne Price was one of the first artists to benefit from
Marian Anderson s hard work and dedication. The day after Marian Anderson s death, April 8th,
1993 Price discussed the ways in which Anderson was able to overcome obstacles while remaining
consistently professional and keeping the high standards she set on her performances. Marian
Andersonwas born on February 27, 1897. She was considered one of the most celebrated African
American artists of the twentieth century. Anderson identified herself as a contralto, which is the
lowest frequency female voice with in a choir. Although Anderson is classified as a classical
vocalist her repertoire included many genres such as opera, traditional American songs, concert
literature and spirituals. Her live performances spanned the years of 1925 to 1965. The majority
of her performances were recitals or concerts, some of which took place within major venues.
Through Anderson s successful career she paved a path for many other African American vocal
artists to follow. This paper explores the ways in which Marian Anderson s career, from her early
beginnings, struggle for recognition, and worldwide acclaim shaped her identity as a representation
for African American vocalists after her to follow. Marian Anderson was born in Philadelphia
Pennsylvania and spent the majority of her childhood years in Philadelphia. Her parents were John
Berkley Anderson, an entrepreneur who sold liquor, ice and

Driving Standard Research Paper
Driving Standard Even though it is an important skill to learn, only around 25% of americans
are able to drive standard. The difference between a standard car, also called a manual car, and an
automatic car is that with a standard car you are able to control when the transmission switches
gears. Usually, there are 6 different options when driving a standard car: 1st gear, 2nd gear, 3rd
gear, 4th gear, 5th gear and reverse. The first couple gears are classified as ВЁthe power gears,ВЁ
because those gears produce the most power the fastest. Even though they produce more power
than other gears, they require to be shifted faster due to the RPMs. RPMs stand for revolutions per
minute and the RPM gauge tells you how many revolutions the engine makes... Show more content

To turn on the car, it is important that you understand the 3 different petals: Clutch, gas and
brake. The difference between the petals on a standard and the petals on an automatic is that in
a standard car, there is an extra petal, which is the clutch. In contrast to an automatic, a standard
car requires you to use both feet. The clutch allows you to shift into another gear and turn on the
car. Now that you have an understanding of the clutch, turning on the car will be no problem. To
turn on the car, leave the shifter in neutral (you know it is in neutral when you can wiggle the
shifter knob) put your right foot on the brake, press the clutch with your left foot and turn the
key. When the car turns on, take your foot off the clutch. A common mistake people make is
riding the clutch, or keeping your foot on the clutch too long, which causes the clutch to burn
out. Now, you want to put it in gear to make the car go. To make the car go, press the clutch with
your left foot, shift to 1st gear, press the gas a little and slowly take your foot off the clutch while
giving it a little more gas. Now that you have the car going, pay close attention to the RPM gauge.
A common RPM gauge is shown

Service Marketing Gap Analysis
The unique requirements of the additional 3P s people, physical evidence, and process are driven
by the particular characteristics of service intangibility, inseparability, variability, and perish ability.
These characteristics also pose more marketing complexities which require different management
activities.
All services are experiences some are long in duration and some are short; some are complex and
others are simple; some are mundane, whereas others are exciting and unique. (Wilson, Zeithaml,
and Bitner, 2008) The delivery process of the service has been entitled the Servuction System by
Langeard and Eiglier. They argued that a bundle of benefits are delivered through both visible and
invisible parts which create an experience for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Customer expectations are standards or reference points that customers bring to the service
experience whereas customer perceptions are subjective assessments of actual service experience.
The difference between customer expectations and perceptions is referred as the customer gap
which is the central focus of the gaps model. The customer gap identifies service performance
problems but does not determine the causes of the problems; it is the four provider gaps that help
management identify where service quality has failed. Service firms need to close the gap between
customer expectations and perceptions of the actual service received if they want to satisfy their
customers with quality service and build long term relationships. (Wilson, Zeithaml, and Bitner,
2008)
A recurring theme in service companies is the difficulty experienced in translating customer
expectations into service quality specifications that employees can understand and execute. The
difficulty can be interpreted as three difficulties: the difficulty for managers who are not in direct
contact with customers in large organization to understand the customer needs; the difficulty in
getting the right balance between imposing service standards and still allowing the staff to be
natural; the difficulty managers faces in selecting and

Examples Of Promiscuity In Brave New World
Introduction: During the writing of the novel, Brave New World, Aldous Huxley, the author of
the book, saw the way society was beginning to change. Throughout the story, he explores many
different predictions that he has seen create an affect our world today. One of the main
predictions he made was on the way promiscuity has changed the view of romantic relationships.
As Huxley began to see people s sexual behavior change he used his ideas to integrate in with
how the world would turn out. Huxley incorporates promiscuity in his utopian society called the
World State, to foreshadow how the world is conforming to the beliefs incorporated in the novel.
Analysis Portion: Aldous Huxley foresees that promiscuity will become socially acceptable and
engrained in culture due to the lack of romantic relationships. While at the savage reservation
Linda talks to Lenina about how Everybody belongs to everyone else . This is one example as to
how there is no emotional attachment between any two people. Well, here, ... Nobody s
supposed to belong to more than one person. And if you have people in the ordinary way, the
others think you re wicked and anti social. They hate and despise you. (81). In this quote Huxley
talks about people being seen in the ordinary way . In his utopian society, being promiscuous is
not seen as wrong. However, in the savage reservation you are despised and disliked if you engage
in a relationship with multiple different people in a short amount of time.

Analysis Of When Worlds Collide By Christopher Columbus
The actions of competing European nations for colonies around the world following the exploits
of Christopher Columbus according to the video When Worlds Collide from PBS include
enslaving, torturing, killing, and plundering the riches of the indigenous people of the New
World. According to When Worlds Collide, before King Charles V s even began his reign, there
had been 32 tons of gold that had been plundered by the Spaniards from the Native Americans. To
add insult to injury, he used Africans and Native Americans as slaves in mines to get him even
more gold only a few years after coming into power. In the same video, it is mentioned that under
the rule of another king, King Philip, Native Americans were used again as slaves in mines

Pine Trees of Georgia
There are pine trees just about everywhere in Georgia. Pine trees have always been important
resources to people in North America. Native Americans used pine trees as treatments for
respiratory conditions and to build items such as canoes or buildings. Today, pine trees are one the
most important timber sources in North America. Pinetrees belong to a group of trees known as the
conifers, meaning the trees have cones and needle like or scale like leaves. There are about seven
very common types of pine trees found in Georgia that grow in several different environments from
the Appalachian Mountainsall the way to the coast. Over many years pine trees have adapted to
these very diverse environments. The Eastern White Pine is found in Georgia through the
mountains and the upper Piedmont. These types of pine trees grow best in moist areas, such as
near a river, or in areas that have a lot of hardwood trees as well. They can be recognized by their
leaves, which look like needles and grow in bundles of five. The Eastern White Pine is known as
one of the largest pines in Georgia. Historically these trees grew to be up to 175 feet tall but now
in recent years only grow to about 100 feet in height. This type of pine is also a rapid grower. An
Eastern White pine can reach forty feet in about twenty years, which is relatively fast for a tree.
Another type of pine tree found in Georgia is the Loblolly Pine. The Loblolly Pine can be found
throughout the state, but is most common in the

The And The Little Difference Within The 20th Century
Migration has always been a controversial theme since the early twentieth century not only because
of it s complex historical development, but also it is related to and can be influenced by various
social issues such as social status, gender, and society s attitude towards immigrants. The aim of this
essay is to argue the how the similarities and the little difference within them of the characters in
literature play the role in theme of migration. The first similarity is that Antonia and Janie have a
same special identity besides their nationalities immigrants. Both two articles portray their youth
life, as immigrants, in America. They were depreciated because they are immigrants instead of
native Americans. In other words, their youth experience reflects the general Americans attitude
towards immigrants at the beginning of The Great Immigration. When Antonia talks to Jim about
how her whole family immigrated to America and how her father ended his life because of
language barriers, unfamiliar farming skills and more importantly, homesickness, Jim,
surprisingly, responds to her: People who don t like this country ought to stay at home, we don t
make them come here. After Antonia leaves, he even hopes that snooping girl would never come
to see them anymore. Jim, from a child s perspective, his judgement to immigrants can be
influenced by his family and the society. It is crystal clear that Antonia is depreciated by her peers,
even by the whole society because of her

Persuasive Techniques Used In The American Airline Industry

passenger transportation around the world. Although the airline industry is a very competitive
market it is very beneficial for everyone. Everyone has experienced distance at least once in their
lives, however, the invention of the air craft is one of the many inventions that has changed how
people live; making life easier for those that must travel long distances across the country or abroad
for either business, fun, visit loved ones or for the pursuit of dreams and happiness. American
Airlines is not only the largest airlinenetwork but, it is also the best and most affordable of all the
airlines in the world.
The American Airlines ad takes place in an airport. There is a light blue background and a black
shade of a family looking at an American Airlines aircraft that seems to have just departed outside
the window while holding their hands. There are three texts in this advertisement, all three of
them are bright red and one of them has the name of the company in a navy blue color; both
colors standing out on a beautiful blue sky. The colors used in this ad represent the American
Airline s colors. On the bottom right corner of the ad there is an American Airlines logo and
another different logo appears next to one of texts.
There are several persuasive techniques applied in this ad. First, the Plain Folks technique enables

Sesamoid Stress Fracture
Introduction: What Are Stress Fractures? Stress fractures account for approximately twenty percent
of athletic injuries, with eighty percent of stress fractures occurring in the lower leg. Stress
fractures in the lower extremity are common injuries among individuals who participate in
endurance, high load bearing activities (2). The incidence of these injuries has risen due to earlier
and longer participation in sports (3). Stress fractures occur when repetitive mechanical load
exceeds the biological capacity of bone, causing micro damage (1). This rate exceeds the rate at
which bone can repair itself, requiring recognition and management of risk factors (2). The initial
stage of bone failure is typically called a stress reaction. If the repetitive loading continues, the
stress reaction can form into a true stress fracture (3). Furthermore, specific intrinsic and extrinsic
risk factors can make an athlete more likely to sustain a stress fracture.... Show more content on

Two forms of treatment can be implemented when dealing with a stress fracture of the great toe
sesamoid; non operative and operative. Non operative treatment of an acute sesamoid stress
fracture requires a period of immobilization and protected weight bearing. The goal is to manage
weight bearing through the heel for a period of six to eight weeks, giving the sesamoid bones a
chance to heal properly. If a displaced sesamoid stress fracture is present, it is essential that
surgical intervention is performed. Chronic stress fractures can also be treated non operatively.
Ideally, the area under the base of the great toe is protected through the use of an orthotic. The
use of an orthotic can be used in combination with a cushioned insole and a stiff sole of the shoe.
The stiff sole allows for a dispersion of force away from the base of the great toe. In addition,
moderation of activities will be implemented to prevent excessive loading to the area

  • 2. The New York City Subway System The New York City Subway System has an extremely rich and detailed history that dates to the late nineteenth century. Before the system that the public currently takes advantage of when they visit New York City, there were an extensive amount of public transportation options that were available to the general public. For example, horse and carriages, omnibuses, and trolley systems were all used as a means of transportation throughout the nineteenth century. Once the idea for a subway system to be built was introduced, most people did not believe that it was possible. However, they were soon proven wrong after Alfred E. Beach secretly built the first subway system that was used in New York City. Once people saw that subterranean travel was a viable means of transportation, it did not take long until the subway system that is used today to come along. The New York City subwaysystem revolutionized the way the general public traveled throughout the city, and inspired other growing cities to build subterranean travel systems of their own. In 1827, Abraham Bower created the first public transportation route that was used in New York City. Bower used a twelve seat stage coach, called Accommodation , that ran its riders along Broadway Street from the Battery down to Bleecker Street. While this was not the most comfortable of rides due to the rough roads, it was still popular by the public. By 1831, due to its popularity, Bower had added two more stage coaches called Sociable ... • 3. Different Perspectives In Dickens And Charles Dickens s... If we want to make changes in our Lives, then we will have to look at the causes and the way we are using our minds, the way we are thinking. For, No two things can occupy the same space at the same time. You can t have a positive thought hold on to the negative one. Choose one. ~Louise Hay. We all have the will and heart, the courage and braveness to let go of the past and to learn from it, and not to dwell in it. So, after all how can something, be both positive and Negative at the same time. Well in a very simple way of putting it, an event can be both positive and negative at the same time. It all comes down on what perspectiveyou are seeing the event from. For, different perspectives can show us stories in a whole other way and in a whole new light. During the book Tale of Two Cities written by Charles Dickens, you could see this view in many different ways. First, you could see how Carton spend a lot of time criticizing himself and imagining that he would never be able to change. This caused him to not even try and to just live life, in a sad state. Next, sacrifice can be positive and it usually means to have new beginnings. On the other hand, you are usually losing something dear to you, which hurts you for the rest of your life. That is why, no one should dwell in the past, but learn from it and move on. Lastly, courage could be a positive and at the same time a negative aspect. It all depends on our own personal perspective, or viewpoint. It was the best ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As he progressed through life he began working towards international peace and basic human freedoms for the people of the Soviet Union. In recognition of this work, Dr. Sakharov was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace. In 1970 Sakharov, with Soviet dissidents Valery Chalidze and Andrei Tverdokhlebov, founded the Moscow Human Rights Committee (Gorelik, The Human Rights Movement). Sakharov called for amnesty for political prisoners, freedom for Soviet Jews to migrate to Israel and autonomy for the Ukraine. Sakharov pushed for reconciliation between socialist and capitalist nations and advocated democratic freedoms in the Soviet Union. He attended political trials and staged protests outside. During one protest he met his second wife Elena Bonner. Sakharov was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1975, the first Russian to get this honor. Sakharov spoke out publicly against the Soviet interference in the Afghanistan civil war and in 1980, he was stripped of his decorations and awards as a Soviet and detained and along with his wife Elena Bonner. • 5. Financial Crisis After The Great Depression 2008 Financial Crisis Not since the great depression was there such a devastating economic crisis as the 2008 financial crisis. A crisis rooted from the burst of the housing bubble in the U.S. thus leading to the government being brought down, ruined economies, crumbled financial corporations and impoverish lives of numerous individuals. As reported in McClean and Nocera s All the Devils Are Here: The Hidden History of the Financial Crisis, the seeds of [the] financial disaster were sown more than thirty years ago when three smart, ambitious men, working sometimes in concert allies in a cause they all believed in and sometimes in opposition competition trying to gain advantage over each other created a shiny new financial vehicle called the mortgage backed security (McClean and Nocera). Therefore, the mortgage backed security (MBS) is essentially the sole reason or seed that lead to the financial crisis. However, the mortgage backed security is not totally to blame on Wall Street as it s not something that Wall Street did entirely on its own. As the United States government aided and abetted them in certain circumstances in which they changed laws to allow the fraudulent ways of the people on Wall Street to continue on ( The Fall of the Market ). Ultimately, when Wall Street took part in the financial sector its focus was to broaden the appeal of securities to wider range of investors to create more capital for itself. In addition, the world s population becomes over 3 pounds heavier each decade (Encarnação et al., 2016). According to a global study conducted by several public health professors in London, England, by 2025, 18% of men and 21% of women will become obese (Encarnação et al., 2016). All over the world, individuals are consuming large amounts of foods high in salt, fat and sugar due to low costs and easy accessibility. High consumption of junk food is detrimental to human health and has resulted in the consideration of junk food taxes all over the world in order to defeat the current obesity epidemic (Encarnação et al., 2016). Governments all over the world should tax foods and beverages that are high in fat, simple sugars and salt because obesity is a rising global issue and junk food taxes will help to decrease obesity rates, reduce disease and raise revenue, which will ultimately result in a healthier and happier generation of people. Arguments for your position: First of all, taxing foods high in fat, simple sugars and salt will reduce obesity rates significantly. Secondly, the taxation of junk food will help reduce disease, which will lead to increased health and happiness of todays generation of people. • 8. The Issue Of Horse Slaughter In today s world dogs may very well be considered man s best friend, but in the days of old horses weren t just man s best friend, they were the most important tool in his possession. From being a form transportation to being used in competitions and battles to even being a source of food, horses have always been an iconic figure in American history. Movies such as The Horse Whisperer, Dreamer, and Flicka portray horses as majestic and powerful creatures full of grace and beauty that are much more of a companion than a tool. This is quite possibly why the topic of horse slaughter has been such a taboo in today s culture. While in many countries around the world horsemeat is considered a type of delicacy, to most American s the idea of eating these exquisite creatures is hard to stomach. There are people who see no wrong in slaughtering horses just like any other livestock animal, though others find it inhumane and cruel. Those who are pro slaughter have many practical and economic reasons for supporting it, while those opposed have ethical issues against it. Proponents of the horse slaughter industry suggest it creates a source of income for many horse owners. Horses are very expensive to own with the average annual cost of a horse being approximately $3,876 per horse (Williams). Many horses are unwanted for several reasons, either they don t have the potential the owner originally thought or they have gotten too old for work or the horse may even be dangerous to be ... The Afterlife In The Egyptian Book Of The Dead The Egyptian Book of the Dead refers to a collection of ancient papyri and scrolls used for funerary, ritual purposes in the ancient Egyptian world. Its purpose and accessibility has evolved across the centuries, from its first known use in the Old Kingdom c.1240 BCE until the final days of its production in the second century CE. The Book of the Dead is not actually a completed book , but rather it is a collation of the various instructions gathered from the tombs of Pharaohs, priests, high ranking officials and the social elite. Although the most important spells were originally reserved for the upper class, eventually The Book of the Dead became popularised among society and by the New Kingdom was generally common among funerary ceremonies. There are around 192 magic spells contained in the Book, many containing subsections and all of them varying in length and detail. Identify and discuss poetic devices and stylistic elements (such as the use of punctuation) that help the poet to create this tone. The tone created in the first stanza is calm and peaceful. This is reinforced by the sound devices used in the poem. The use of punctuation and the length of each line causes the reader to naturally pause after every bit of information. This is effectively done by the use of commas and points. It is also made through the use of enjambment that takes place in line 2. A certain power element is also given to the sea which forms a contrast between the peaceful and calm element, this effect is increased by the use of poetic devices such as alliteration. • 12. Art From Baroque Period Through The Postmodern Era Essay Art from Baroque Period through the Postmodern Era Renaissance art history began as civic history; it was an expression of civic pride. The first such history was Filippo Villani s De origine civitatis Florentiae et eiusdem famosis civibus, written about 1381 82. Florentine artists revived an art that was almost dead, Villani asserts, just as Dante had restored poetry after its decline in the Middle Ages. The revival was begun by Cimabue and completed by Giotto, who equalled the ancient painters in fame and even surpassed them in skill and talent. After Giotto came his followers, Stefano, Taddeo Gaddi, and Maso, uomini illustri all, who, together with notable jurists, poets, musicians, theologians, physicians, orators, and others, made ... These texts are among the handful that treat art in the early Florentine Renaissance and are, therefore, precious testimony from the early years of Renaissance art history. While rare for being texts on art, they are of a type, however, that was common in Renaissance literature. They belong to a genre or category in which are found some of the most characteristic texts of Renaissance humanism. Other of the books in this category are by such writers as Bruni, Salutati, and Manetti, books with which all students of the Renaissance are familiar. They treat broad moral and philosophical issues, but, as in the accounts of visual art, only insofar as they concern the city of Florence. And scholars reasonably have asked why there was such a preoccupation with Florence at this time. One of those who did so was Hans Baron and his answer has been at the center of discussions of this question since the 1950s. Baron linked the focus on Florence during the years around 1400 to a struggle over Florentine independence that began in 1390 with a declaration of war by Milan and ended only in 1454, when Milan accepted the independent status of the Florentine Republic. These events, he proposed, explain the direction taken by Florentine political speculation at this time, particularly the stress on republican ideals of liberty and civic involvement; they gave rise to a ... I realized that everything that surrounds me; the tree in my yard, the house that I live in, and the chair that I am sitting in right now are made of the same exact materials that I am made of! I made this discovery whilst I was discussing science with my dad. Earlier that day, at schoolwe had been talking about molecules and how they were made of atoms. My dad often likes to extend my understanding of subjects which I study at school, which is what he was doing that day. Since we had discussed atoms and molecules in school my dad had decided to go a little further with me, and talk about what atoms were made of. My dad got into the car, and we started on the short drive home. The whole ride I was bouncing up and down in my seat in anticipation. When I finally got home, my dad gave in to me and said we could talk about string theory. We sat down and he explained string theory to me. • 18. Literary Analysis Of Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening Student s Name: Professor: Class: Date: Literary Analysis of Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening The Poem Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening is one of the classic poems penned down by Robert Frost. Looking at the poem at first glance, it is simply about what is implied on its heading the speaker is stopping by the woods on a snowy evening. The author describes vividly how the speaker, on his way home, stops by the woods and takes in the mesmerizing scenery. He is clearly torn between staying at the woods longer so he can continue enjoying the breathtaking scenery with the snow falling all around him or continue on his journey. However, despite the compelling allure for him to move further into the woods and experience a bit more of the deep and dark silence in the air, he decides to carry on with his journey since he still has things to do. He says to himself but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep. But such a view of the poem is straightforward and somehow superficial. By focusing on the literal meaning on the surface of the poem, most people fail to recognize the deep inclinations and secret motivations that Frost conveys through his clever and intriguing word play that renders a diversity of meaning. The poem must mean more than just a traveler appreciating the beauty of nature. It might be a deep metaphor that represents something else which trumpets the love for nature. As a work of philosophy, Republic attempts to answer this question by posing thought provoking conversations between Socrates and the characters he meets in his travels. Perhaps the most interesting counterpoint to Socrates comes in the conversation with Thrasymachus, a skeptical Sophist who rejects a simple vision of what is just. From a management perspective, the key to diversity is to understand how different types of diversity and different demographic characteristics can impact human behavior. The four types of diversity that will be examined are: occupation, differences in skills and abilities, personality traits, and value and attitudes. For each type of diversity, the impact on individualbehavior will be described. One type of diversity is occupation. The same employee may have had close relationships with subordinates before they became supervisor. This example shows how occupation impacts behavior and how a change in position can alter individual behavior. The next type of diversity is differences in skills and abilities. One of the most important factors when considering skills and abilities is that individuals will often adapt their behavior so they are making use of what they consider their positive skills and abilities. For example, consider the case of an individual who believes that they have very effective written communication skills but very poor oral communication skills. This individual is likely to adapt his or her behavior so they write as much as possible, while avoiding communicating orally. As a specific example, this individual might prepare memos or write emails as a way of communicating with their employees, instead of having a meeting with employees. This illustrates how people tend to adapt their behavior so they are using their positive qualities, while avoiding having to use their weaker skills and abilities. Another type of diversity is personality traits. Personality traits are defined as recurring patterns of behavior such as friendliness, social dominance, conventionality, emotional adjustment, and aesthetic inclination (Seamon Kenrick, 1994). As this definition shows, personality traits are actually defined because of the observed behavior they result in. The link ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Inclusion And Exclusion Criteria Essay Following the inclusion and exclusion criteria, six studies (published between 2002 and 2015) have been found to meet the standards and thus included in the current comparative analysis. Table 1 summarizes these studies in terms of their characteristics, with the original United States study (Cialdini et al., 1976) included for comparison. It can be noted that while most of the studies are situated in the context of a sporting event (i.e. boxing, basketball, football) and how fans reacted to the outcomes of these games, two replications extend BIRG into the display of political affiliations during national elections (Boen et al., 2002) and the act of basking in peer popularity and likeability (J. K. Dijkstra, Cillessen, Lindenberg, Veenstra, 2010). Similarly, the replications were done in Asian (Japan, Philippines), European (Belgium, France), and Middle Eastern (Israel) countries. • 37. The Fool In King Lear Essay Authenticity of civility aside, words, no matter the motivation behind them, leave a lasting effect on the people who read or hear them. King Lear stresses how words can be used to victimize people behind a veneer of legitimacy. Regan, Goneril, and Edmund in the opening scenes use words as a tool to fulfill their agendas when the three use kind words to disguise their objectives. In Act I, Scene I, the sisters give Lear moving speeches to win over his love, but once he leaves their true personalities start to surface when they do not show Cordelia any sympathy for her banishment (Shakespeare, 24). This instance illustrates that even the most evil people can sound like a good person by choosing the right words in a particular situation. While... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The last words of Oswald the servant and the duke of Cornwall share similarities, despite the character s different statuses. Cornwall orders for the servant who stabbed him to be thrown outside without a proper burial, while Oswald asks to be buried. These speeches [refer] indirectly to the chthonic gods who have dictated that the dead body must covered with earth (Cohen), illuminating how both men view the gods in the midst of death. Oswald becomes god fearing after assisting Goneril s schemes, while Cornwall thinks he can dictate who should get honored by the gods. Lear s utters more personal dying words than Oswald and Cornwall: Do you see this? Look on her. Look, her lips. Look there, look there (Shakespeare, 308), her referring to an imaginary Cordelia. Unlike the dramatic deaths of Oswald and Cornwall, Lear dies subtly, so much that the people present mistake his death for fainting. The emotional intensity of Lear s death resonates in Edgar as his reaffirms the theme of genuine words when he recites the last speech of the play: Speak what we feel, not what we ought to say (Shakespeare, 310). Shakespeare uses the last words of secondary characters to communicate his themes of mortality, while he uses Lear s to show his emotional progression from the start of the ... They believe It is our responsibility to question everything , and to remember that the ultimate authority depends on the credulity of the reader, not on the message of the narrator . Dr. Adams tries to point back to the author as the authority, not the critic, and in this he is ultimately successful. Authority is both a problem for us today, unwilling to be manipulated towards a hierarchical cultural formula, and an unstated assumption (if it is based on a larger cultural attitude, not on individual opinion). Marian Andersonwas born on February 27, 1897. She was considered one of the most celebrated African American artists of the twentieth century. Anderson identified herself as a contralto, which is the lowest frequency female voice with in a choir. Although Anderson is classified as a classical vocalist her repertoire included many genres such as opera, traditional American songs, concert literature and spirituals. The difference between the petals on a standard and the petals on an automatic is that in a standard car, there is an extra petal, which is the clutch. In contrast to an automatic, a standard car requires you to use both feet. The clutch allows you to shift into another gear and turn on the car. Now that you have an understanding of the clutch, turning on the car will be no problem. To turn on the car, leave the shifter in neutral (you know it is in neutral when you can wiggle the shifter knob) put your right foot on the brake, press the clutch with your left foot and turn the key. When the car turns on, take your foot off the clutch. A common mistake people make is riding the clutch, or keeping your foot on the clutch too long, which causes the clutch to burn out. Pinetrees belong to a group of trees known as the conifers, meaning the trees have cones and needle like or scale like leaves. There are about seven very common types of pine trees found in Georgia that grow in several different environments from the Appalachian Mountainsall the way to the coast.
