The Culture Of The Mexican Culture
How many different types of cultures are there? Here s the answer there are many cultures. My story
starts like this; both of my parents are from Guadalajara well most of my family is from that part of
México. Being part of the Mexican culture is very different from other cultures, but every culture is
unique of its own way. Many Mexican people have preserved and still do many of their ancestors
traditions. Tradition plays a big role in my family for example: the food we eat, the music we listen to,
what we dance to and what we celebrate to. I wanted a sweet sixteen but of course being Mexican my
parents said no. Being in the Mexican culture tradition is that when you turn 15 you re supposed to
have a Quinceanera it symbolizes that you are no longer a kid but you are now a young women. Many
people think a Quinceanera is just a party but the real tradition is to have a church mass. Since I am
catholic that consists of me going to church and thanking God. Social behaviors impact your life in
many ways. You have roles and rules in your cultures. When you re with your friends you act a
different way. When it has to do with family or church groups you have a role and rules and your
behavior is different. Women and Males have different rules and roles. Mother is supposed to stay
home and Father is supposed to work to help his family. Women are not supposed to do yard work
their job is inside. That has changed with the year s most

United States Isolationist Policy During the Inter-War Years
United States Isolationist Policy During the Inter War Years
After the First World War many people in the United States wanted to turn their backs on European
and other world affairs. This has been a policy of isolationism. If this term is used to mean having
nothing to do with the outside world, then the USA was clearly not isolationist as it was involved in a
number of important international issues. The term can more accurately be used, however, to mean
refusing to become involved in international disputes and conflicts.
The single most important feature of American isolationism was the decision not to join the League of
Nations. America felt that if they did join they would be dragged into ... Show more content on

In the First World War over 100, 000 American men were killed. They decided on this policy because
they basically didn t want the same thing to happen. This was confirmed in 1920 when the republican
President Warren Harding came to power. He was totally against getting involved in foreign affairs.
The United States, while refusing to become involved in foreign disputes, was, however, actively
involved in preventing them from beginning. For example in 1921 2 after WW1 the USA helped set
up the Washington Naval Agreement. This was to prevent Britain, Japan, France and Italy from
increasing their navies and having an arms race like the one before 1914. They also had a ten year ban
from producing any new battleships. Also, the US secretary of state, Frank Kellog, helped the
development of the Kellog Briand pact in 1928. It made all the major powers try to avoid waging war
with each other. The USA also took part in the Geneva Peace Conference of 1932 and the World
Economic Conference of 1933. Also, throughout the whole time after WW1 the USA did not object to
immigrants landing on it s shores. All these things strongly suggest that the United States were never
isolationist in the first place.
The Americans also gave economic aid to countries which were in crisis of falling apart or to countries
who they thought would be a treat. At the end of WW1 Germany was left in ruins,

The Doctor-Patient Relationship Is The Primary Mode Of
The doctor patient relationship is the primary mode of cognition that is at the heart of the discourse of
medicine and bioethics. Healthcare is constructed around encounters between practitioners and
patients, and the relationship between them is integral to how the cultures of healing are at work and
represented in literature, in history and social sciences around the world. Life and mortality are two
great questions of being that perennially haunt the human existence; and physicians play the most
significant role in negotiating between the physical and the metaphysical worlds of being, suffering
and trying to find cure and comfort as long as life goes on. The cultures of healing across time, space
and nationality explored however ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is Foucault s famous observation in The Birth of the Clinic ( as translated into English in 1973)
where he illustrates the doctor patient relationship in terms of power, and the subject object hierarchy.
The diseased body is in disorder, in a state of displacement, and its subjectivity is erased as it becomes
subject to the doctor s examination. In several literary works of the nineteenth century, such
representations of doctor patient relationship are to be found as corresponding to the Foucauldian
pattern, that is, turning the patient s subjectivity into an object of the doctor s authoritative gaze.
However, since Foucault himself has elsewhere insisted on the double meaning of subject (1982, 212),
it is possible to problematize the doctor patient relation and attempt to come to terms with one s own
subject object position within the established discourse of medical gaze. It is interesting, however, to
examine how literary representations of doctor patient relationships across cultures and nationalities
have interrogated the notion of seeing as an alternative mode of vision.
Opthalmology as a special branch of medical science established itself quite seriously in the Victorian
period. Wilkie Collins Poor Miss Finch (1872) is a medical surgical novel , and the surgery is operated
on the eye. Beneath the story

Kober Khadr Case Study
On July 27, 2002 a fifteen year old Canadian citizen Omar Khadr was captured by US forces in
Afghanistan. Khadr was captured for the murder of unarmed medic Christopher Speer. The US had
held Khadr for a period of ten years (from 2002 2012). During this time, Canada did not fulfill its
obligation to protect Omar Khadr and his rights. Canada failed to protect Khadr and his rights during
three instances: Firstly, during the rough interrogation that involved various types of torture Canada
did not speak up for Khadr nor did they fight for his rights. Secondly, Canada did not request for the
right of Extradition when Khadr was captured, instead letting the US hold him for ten years. Lastly,
Canada assisted the unfair prosecution of Khadr while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When terrorists from other countries such as Britain and Australia were captured the countries put
pressure on the US to release extradite the prisoners back to their home countries. Canada had not
asked nor demanded for this, it seems as though Canada was supporting the US s treatment of Khadr.
Canada had to take back Khadr once it was publicized that he was being tortured almost every day. In
addition to this, Prime Minister Stephen Harper had confidence that the US military would try Khadr
in a fair manner, but obviously he was wrong as Khadr was forced to sign an unfair plea that would
basically force him into Canada. Dennis Edney Khadr s former lawyer states He has fought for close
to eight years to get a pair of protective glasses to preserve the amount of sight remaining in Omar s
one eye with vision. He received them in November of last year. That is the extent of the help Omar
has received from the Canadian government, they can t even get him a pair of glasses. (Edney 5).
Khadr was going blind in Guantanamo and requested a pair of glasses for eight years. Canada did not
comply and didn t even speak to Guantanamo about getting Khadr glasses; instead, they let the US
treat the Canadian citizen very harshly and not even provide him with a pair of glasses. Canada did not
care about Khadr instead they just let the US deal with him unfairly. Canada should have been more
involved in the treatment of Khadr and should not have supported the US while they were violating
Khadr. Unlike the other countries such Britain and Australia Canada did not pressure the US to
extradite Khadr. In addition to this, they stood by the US s strong torture methods due to the fact that
Canada did not speak up when Khadr was sent to Guantanamo, even though Guantanamo was famous
for torturing its prisoners.

Worldview Essay
Worldview Essay Today s society consists of many worldviews. Most people tend to pull beliefs from
different religions, but often stick to one main worldview. A worldview to me is the gathering of
beliefs that shape what we do on a daily basis and forms our overall view on life. When I look at my
beliefs critically, I am able to see my worldview and see how it compares to different worldviews, but
also how it compares mainly to the Christian Worldview. My view of God is very similar to the non
denomination Christian Worldview. I believe that God is an omnipotent Trinity of Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit that oversees the entire universe. I believe that God created everything in his image,
including man. Because He rules over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If not, they are condemned to hell. The nature of the universe is something that very few worldviews
can agree on. Many peoples worldviews are mainly concerned with materialistic things because there
is no supernatural being; it is merely an arrangement of particles. However, I believe that the universe
is an illusion (Cosgrove, 2006, p. 30). To me, it is an illusion that is able to leave us to a life and
afterlife filled with God. What makes the difference is what a person truly believes in at the end.
Whether someone believes in a materialistic universe or the illusion of the universe that leads to a God
filled life decides how he or she lives his or her life. Personally, I believe all that matters in the end is
God and my faith in Him. The question of how I know what I know is a question that is one of the
most difficult I have encountered. Much of what I know is based on logic and thinking. This is where I
may veer off of the Christian Worldview slightly. I believe that God has given humans the ability to
reason and think logically, and I use that as much as possible. I think that He intended for us to use our
minds to find what we believe to be true, hoping that people would seek God when seeing that He is
the only real truth. Cosgrove (2006) makes a great comment on secular humanism and a person s
ability to find value, and in

1. Air Station Kodiak experiences a significant shortage of personnel during transfer season. The lack
of personnel happens every year with 1/3 of the workforce who transfer out. With the high rate of
yearly transferees comes lack of personnel to fix aircraft, support the flight schedule and handicaps the
training program. Coast Guard Enlisted Personnel Management needs to change overseas tour lengths
for Air Station Kodiak.

The Effects Of Video Advertisements On Society Essay
Introduction
Video advertisements are quick and momentary but their influence is pervasive and prolonged. The
power of video advertisements shape norms and common societal expectations on how a person
should look and behave. Overtime these gender roles (societal expectations associated with men and
women) and behaviors become implicit thus implying normal (or in some instances ideal) men and
women should exhibit these qualities and characteristics. Subconsciously, video advertisements
impact a person s perception of what it means and what it takes to be a man or woman. The objective
of this paper is to observe secondary socialization, ...learning behaviors and attitudes associated with
specific situations and roles... , in YouTube video advertisements by comparing recurring patterns,
symbols, statuses, and roles directed to men and women (Lecture Notes Nalkur 7). In addition, this
paper seeks to explain how YouTube video advertisements act as socializing agents by portraying
arguably exaggerated yet stereotypical traits of men and women that influence watchers perceptions
and beliefs about their own gender identity and that of others.
Methods
The approach of this study was to obtain a total of eight YouTube video advertisements. Four of which
focus on women/women s products and the other four video advertisements focus on men/men s
products. The YouTube video advertisements were obtained randomly by watching the YouTube
channels I normally visit. All video ads were obtained

Analysis of Animal Characters in Alice in Wonderland by...
Why are animal characters so popular in children s literature? Why do they tend to be either fierce or
friendly? How do animal characters impact children s literature? In Alice s Adventure in Wonderland,
the animal characters are very weird. They were supposed to guide Alice through the traditional
fairytale world she has created, but instead they were negative influences on this child. I believe the
audience expected that animal characters are supposed to because they are the ones who should be a
role model for kids to look up or when they read it. Do the animal characters in Lew Carroll s Alice s

Since Alice saw him disappeared in the dark, it seemed that he was trying to drag her to go in the dark
well. This rabbit behavior is very weird because it grabbed Alice s attention and wanted her to go after
her. In our world, the rabbits never want to grab our attention or want us to know where they are.
From Del Toro s Pan Labyrinth, it is connected to Ofelia when she saw the fairy tales in the wood. I
am applying Fairytales as rabbit. When the rabbit hopped away and disappeared in hole, Alice was
upset because she thought that it was supposed to guide her to the world that she has created just like
Ofelia. In my personal experience as a kid, every time I see a rabbit or squirrel, I used to go after
them. All the times, they went in the hole or in the wood. I was upset that I couldn t go after them
anymore just like Alice and Ofelia. Alice s head struck against the roof of the hall and she was more
than nine feet high. She sat down and began to cry. Alice felt very desperate that she was ready to ask
anyone for help. According to Carroll 1865, p. 8, when the White Rabbit came near her, she began in a
low, timid voice, If you please, Sir The White Rabbit started violently, dropped the white kid gloves
and the fan, and scurried away into the darkness as fast as he could go. In my opinion, Lewis Carroll
disobeyed the audience by using rabbit as animal character. He didn t do what the audience would
expect.

Balinese Cockfight Summary
Reading Report #2
Clifford Geertz, Deep Play: Notes on a Balinese Cockfight *Answers to Reading Report question are
intended to guide your explorations for your essay. Each answer should be a paragraph length (about 5
6 sentences).
1. How is this essay constructed? Describe the parts of the piece (and how many, etc.) Provide brief
descriptions of the work that each part is doing and how it goes about doing it.
Deep Play: Notes on the Balinese Cockfight is divided into eight or nine sections, each with their own
distinct style and message. The first section is titled The Raid and is told in the style of a narrative. In
it, Geertz reflects on his time in Bali with his wife in April of 1958. He reflects on the way the
Balinese people treated him; during his first week or so in Bali, Geertz and his wife were treated as
though they didn t exist. After witnessing a cockfight and running away just like the Balinese people
who also attended, however, Geertz and his wife were treated as though they were Balinese
themselves, and were completely accepted into Balinese society. In the second section, Of Cocks and
Men , Geertz reflects on different aspects of Balinese culture and how Balinese men, despite
cockfighting being illegal, strongly identify with it and even use the term to refer to different types of
men and their personalities. Additionally, Geertz points out that besides cockfighting, the Balinese are
strongly against doing anything that resembles an animal,

Comparing Gilgamesh And Noah s Flood
Few stories written in ancient times, such as the ones about Noah and his flood and Gilgamesh and his
flood, have been able to survive the test of time. This why when books as well written as these two are
found from ancient times, people tend to be drawn toward them. Books such as these are often very
thoroughly studied and observed just because of how long ago they were written. It s enjoyable to
experience the type of writing a completely different time period was able to produce. However, with
all the praise the pieces get, comes great skepticism as well. A major event in both pieces of writing is
a divine inspired flood. Both books also have very similar characteristics within each of their flood
stories. The story of Noah s flood was based off of the flood of Gilgamesh and the timing of the pieces

Skeptics claim that the flood narrative of Genesis is a rewritten version of an original myth
(freerepublic.com, 1). The myth they are referring to is that of Gilgamesh and his flood. It is believed
that the books could have been written up to 2800 years apart. Knowing the difference in time
between the writing of the two books is an essential step in understanding how Noah s flood was just
retold from the original flood of Gilgamesh. The most important part of revealing the copying of
Gilgamesh s flood is in all the different characteristics the floods share. Some of the similarities are
very striking (icr.org, 1). This quote is referring to the connections the author makes earlier in the
article between the two flood stories. Some of these connections include the floods being caused by

The Revolutionary Theory Of Class Struggle
Benjamin Guerrero
Prof. Fatovic / POT 3054

Progress through the Struggle
Karl Marx, chief characteristic was singleness of purpose, his idea of happiness was to fight and his
idea of misery was submission, his inspiration was the rebel slave leader Spartacus, who was a violent
gladiator fighting for his freedom. His favorite motto was that you must have doubts about everything
and lastly his favorite color was red. Many philosophers interpret the world, but the important thing is
to change it and Marx wanted to explain the conditions under which many citizens lived. Since The
Soviet Revolution from 1917, almost more than 30 countries have claimed to be inspired by Marx s
philosophy. The revolutionary theory of Class Struggle (PG 220, The Marx Engels reader) have
inspired a chain of revolutions throughout the world, but the Marxists states that have resulted, are not
what he advocated for. These new governments were violent, repressive, oppressive and autocratic.
One can find the promise of revolution hidden on his most famous and lengthiest work, his book
called Capital; A text that gave catalyst for the chain of ideas that have inspired a world movement.
The aim was not for the moral protest but to write a complex, far reaching, interconnected series of
books, articles and manifestos. Their aim was not at the moral protest at the evils of capitalism, but as
an explanatory analysis of how capitalism actually works, how it came about and how it

The Importance of Booster Seats and Seat Belts
In 2011 there were 650 deaths of children who were not properly buckled or in a car seat when riding
in a vehicle, with the use of a booster that could have been extremely reduced. Families are out on
road trips so much more than in the past, which means that children are in the car far more than they
used to be ( Booster ... 1). Almost 7, 000 children were involved in accidents in 2006 and 45% of them
were not restrained and received fatal injuries ( Statistics... 6). In 2006, there were approximately 5
child fatalities daily ( Statistics... 2).This number could be lowered if children would be placed in
proper booster or car seats for their age and buckled soundly. Most children that are not buckled are
from families where the parent does not buckle up ( Child Passenger Safety 2). When in a car, only
about 21% of children ages 4 8 years of age are occasionally riding in a booster ( Child Passenger
Safety Statistics 4).These precautions help children to be secure in case of an accident. In an article
published by the CDC, they stated, Buckling children in age and size appropriate car seats, booster
seats, and seat belts reduces the risk of serious and fatal injuries ( Child Passenger Safety 4). The laws
state that all children should be in a car seat, for a reason. Use of seat belts are important but the
combination of seat belts and boosters together, are proven to help keep children from deaths and
injuries in accidents, especially when they are used

Stay Fit While Travelling Essay
Stay Lean While Traveling! Yes, It Is Possible. Staying healthy and fit while traveling is a challenge
and, in some cases, a struggle for a lot of people. Traveling, after all, can be an excuse to indulge, and
take a breather from your daily exercise regimen and diet. The problem with this line of thinking,
however, is that getting back into shape when you go back home could be harder than when you first

you can just lock yourself up in your hotel room, so you don t get tempted to try local cuisines. Your

House Voices
I will start with my new house. It is down the street from where my grandma and great aunt live. The
house has two levels, the main floor and the basement. There are two bedrooms, the office, the
bathroom, the living room with a fireplace, dinning room, and the kitchen on the main level. The
basement contains the laundry room, the family room, a bathroom, and a large storage area. The house
was for sale because the old woman who lived in it before us had died in the summer heat while her
air conditioner was broken. Her neighbors found her in her house. It was later discovered that she had
been dead for a few days. She was lying on the floor, in the only hallway in the house, just beyond the

I started having fun with it, all over again. Then I lost interest in it. It found a new home in a box that
was placed in my closet, and forgotten. A year later, we moved into our new house. A few months after
we were fully moved in (though we still have boxes upon boxes of old stuff in the basement, which
we do not plan on unpacking for lack of shelf space).
I had started school at Topeka West High School, got settled in with everything, and on came the
homework. One night, while working on an essay for my Junior English class, I heard a faint,
annoying, sound. It sounded mechanical, but I could not make out what it was. The never ending,
irritating noise, similar to that of the neighbor s barking dog, continued long enough to let me walk

I grabbed the box and brought it around the blanket wall into my room, so I could look inside of it at

Dangers Of Coral Reefs
As many know, coral reefs are the most beautiful, structurally complicated and diverse marine
ecosystems. Coral reefs do numerous amounts of things; for example, they provide habitats for
various types of living organisms, they protect shorelines from storm damage, and produce and sustain
white sandy beaches. Although coral reefs look feeble, they are actually strong and durable during
certain conditions. Coral reefs are capable of recovering from brutal storms and even volcanic
eruptions as long as the dusts and sediments settle and are washed away. Before the reefs can begin
their healing process, the water condition needs to be clean and clear of all toxins. What s killing the
coral reefs then? Sadly, human enterprise is simultaneously destroying coral reefs directly and
reducing their capacity to recover (Fujita,2003). First, we will talk about 3 major threats human
enterprise has on the coral reefs. Keep in mind that the threats mentioned are not the only threats out
there. We shall then talk about evidence against some of these topics. Last, we will talk about how
these threats towards our coral reefs affect us humans; along with ways to change our environment.
One of the major threats of human enterprise is overfishing/harmful fishing. According to Fujita,
Overfishing is rampant in many coral reef countries, driven by increasing demand and rising expense
for coral reef fish which have become major status symbols in the fancy restaurants of Hong Kong and

How Does Huck Finn Show Morality
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Throughout the entire novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry
Finn, Huck shows two main traits or themes in the book. Huck shows loyalty to Jim on their
adventures. However, Huck also shows morality in chapters 25 to 31, something we really did not see
in the earlier chapters. In this essay I will give a brief summary of the chapters, then an example or
two of how Huck displays loyalty and morality. One example of morality starts in the beginning of
chapter 25 when Huck expressed how disgusted he was by the duke and dauphin being so selfish and
only trying to con everyone. Huck says, I never see anything so disgusting (Twain, 193). The duke and
dauphin are pretending to be the brothers of Peter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Huck is not sure at this point if the coffin was looked in or not, he is not sure if the con men have the
money or not. Huck thought he would write a letter to Mary Jane telling her to dig up the coffin after

Jane where he hid the money. Says I, if it could stay where it is, all right; because when we get down
the river a hundred mile or two I could write back to Mary Jane , and she could dig him up... (Twain,
210 211). The con artists end up selling the land and the slaves. Huck is white, mind you. Huck knows
how wrong slavery just naturally and he truly does have a morally correct conscience. Mary Jane was
also feeling very upset about splitting the salve family, but Huck promises her in a few weeks they
will unite again, knowing that the con men will be caught by then. Huck eventually told Mary Jane the
truth about the con men but asked her to keep quiet until Jim could escape. Which shows Huck was
staying very loyal to Jim. Huck ended up writing Mary Jane a note where the money was. By the end
of chapter 28 two men showed up stating they were the real Harvey and William

Different Correlation Between States With Strict Gun Laws...
Isenstein writing for the National Journal proposes that there is a distinct correlation between states
with strict gun laws and gun violence. The states that im¬pose the most re¬stric¬tions on gun users
also have the low¬est rates of gun re¬lated deaths, while states with few¬er reg¬u¬la¬tions typ¬ic

support the claim, but again bring up the question about the variables used to define death rates from
guns. Annotations to the article imply that some outside influence caused a revision to update some
charts to only display gun related homicides and exclude suicides and accidental deaths. Sullum
critiques the study and points out a different perspective from the same data. He underscores that the
rankings can be drastically altered by focusing on homicides and not including suicides. Wyoming is
ranked for having a high suicide rate but a low homicide rate whereas the District of Columbia has a
low suicide rate but high homicide rate. (Sullum) The National Journal shows that the six states with
the lowest rates of gun related deaths in 2013 also have relatively strict gun policies when considering
the laws for purchasing and carrying handguns. Additionally, these states do not have a stand your

One of the fastest growing sectors, it is extremely export oriented and labour intensive.
Based on its potential for growth and value addition, the Government of India has declared the Gems
and Jewellery sector as a focus area for export promotion. The Government has recently undertaken
various measures to promote investments and to upgrade technology and skills to promote Brand India
in the international market.
India is deemed to be the hub of the global jewellery market because of its low costs and availability
of high skilled labour. India is the world s largest cutting and polishing centre for diamonds, with the
cutting and polishing industry being well supported by government policies. Moreover, India exports
95 per cent of the world s diamonds, as per statistics from the Gems and Jewellery Export promotion
Council (GJEPC). The industry is projected to generate up to US$ 35 billion of revenue from exports
in 2015.

Corsage History
To start off, thanks to corsages and boutineers, formal events can be made more special. To begin, the
corsage significance will be explained first. Although traditions change, the corsage, still to this day,
stands to be worn. It can be seen pinned to ladies dresses or worn around the wrist at any formal event
(school events, weddings, graduations, etc. )
Corsage was originally named after the French word for the bodice of a dress to which it was attached.
In ancient times, such as in Greek times, it was known to be worn to prevent evil spirits. The herbs
and flowers were known to prevent anything dangerous or unpleasant from taking place at weddings
or for other important occasions. Before the 1900 s corsages were worn on the body (waist up). As the
style in this time began to change, so did the placement of the corsages. They were moved from the

Boutonnieres became a thing when the King of France arrived in Italy. The people brought him a
wreath of violets, which he very happily wore. Later in the 1940 s, flower gardens became popular,
initiating floral patterns to be worn on men s clothing. When painters began to portray other
individuals wearing bouquets of flowers on the men s buttonhole, the country s men also started
copying how the drawings were portrayed. However, as time progressed, just like the corsages
changed places and meanings, so did the boutonniere. Around the 1830 s the frock coat became
popular, but it wasn t till about two decades later when the Tweedside coat came about. The fashion
was similar to a turndown shirt collar with the coat buttons closed all the way to the top. This resulted
in men leaving their top buttons undone. Consequently, the right side of the coat flapped over with the
button facing the clavicle, allowing the left side to sow the boutonniere from the inside. This was how
the notched lapel came into existence as it is

Social and Political Themes in the Movie Milk Essay
Extra Credit Assignment MILK 1. What are the main themes, politically and socially, that are
portrayed in the film? Milk is a biographical film based on the triumphs and struggles of Harvey Milk.
He was a gay rights activist and the first openly gay elected official in California. Socially, the film
addresses the discrimination homosexuals faced on a daily basis. (T)he normal majority , as labeled by
Anita Bryant, inflicted prejudice upon the homosexual minority. The Castro , the name of a street in an
area often inhabited by homosexual bars and such places, portrays the clan like social groupings. The
entire neighborhood however was not friendly. A fellow merchant on Castro Street refused to allow

He also wanted to include blacks, Asians, and the disabled in a human rights movement. 3. Choose 2
scenes from the film and discuss what is important about them. I was very bothered by the comments
Anita Bryant made during a televised speech that was shown in the film. She was an orange juice sales
woman who was working to repeal laws that protect homosexual human rights; specifically in
employment and housing. She described homosexuality as tearing down the foundation of the family
unit and compared gays to prostitutes and thieves. She tried to convince the public that the traditional
family was being threatened and that practicing or accepting homosexuality was blasphemy. Although
the scenes of Harvey Milk recording his voice were split up throughout the film, I felt it to be the most
powerful. Not only does he address the substantial probability of being assassinated, he does so calmly
and courageously. He stated that, a gay activist is the target for someone who is insecure . As he did
throughout his encounters with all kinds of people, he also stated that he often broke the tension when
giving a speech to mostly straight men by telling a joke. Milk accomplished a lot for the gay rights
movement, one that is still fighting today, and he did so with integrity, hard work, and sporadic humor.

Examples Of Negligence In Sports
Upon being injured in his first rugby game, Jim Smith decided to sue his university for negligence. He
believed that the school did not provide him with proper medical attention upon suffering a
concussion during his game. Negligence can be defined as failing to do something that a reasonable,
prudent, and up to date person would have done under the same/similar conditions or doing something
that a reasonable, prudent and up to date person would not have done (Dougherty, Goldberger,
Carpenter, 2007, p. 187). Despite these acts being unintentional, one can seek compensation from the
courts under tort law. For a tort lawsuit to be successful, it must have all four elements of negligence:
duty, breach of duty, proximate cause, and loss. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Waivers are legally binding contracts which states that the coach or whoever else is in charge is not
liable for any injuries. These hold up as defense in court, unless it is applied to gross negligence. Jim s
case files under gross negligence since the school made a conscious and voluntary disregard of the
need to use reasonable care, which is likely to cause foreseeable grave injury or harm to persons, (
gross negligence, 2008). The University made the conscious decision to not make sure that there was
medical assistance at the rugby game, knowing that some type of injury was bound to occur. Despite
the school committing gross negligence, the school still has the defense of assumption of risk. It
means that an individual recognizes that an activity comes with certain inherent risks. Inherent risks
are risks that cannot be eliminated without fundamentally altering the very nature of the activity
(Dougherty et al., 2007, p. 190). Rugby by nature is a violent contact sport, where the players have
almost no padding to protect them. The only way to remove some of the risk of it would change the
sport entirely. Given that Jim voluntarily decided to participate, was aware of the nature of the sport
what risks went along with it, and that his injury possibly could have come from the inherent risk not
the negligence, the

Quarter Car Essay
WHEEL SLIP DYNAMICS Quarter car model
The consideration of a quarter car model can clearly explained the problem of wheel slippage as
shown in the fig.5. This quarter car model consists of mass m which is connected by a wheel. The
mass m is steered by the inertia with a velocity v, as a result the wheel starts rotating. A friction force
fx is generated between the wheel and the road surface. An angular velocity ω is caused by wheel
rotation, which is generated by the torque. A negative angular acceleration is developed, when the
brake is pressed in opposition to the wheel rotation.
Fig.5 Quarter car forces and torques
The equation of quarter car forces are:
mv= F_x (1) Jw=rF_x T_b sign(ω) (2)
Where
m = mass of the quarter vehicle v = velocity of the vehicle ω = angular velocity of the wheel F_z =

Mental Discovery In Frankenstein
As a boy, Victor Frankenstein had always had an eager desire to learn (Shelly, 19). In his childhood,
he read the work of Agrippa and there his fascination manifested with the thought of educating
himself. As he got older, he decided with his family that he needed to further his education by
attending University, leading to him enrolling at the University of Ingolstadt. This marks the
beginning of the long journey of obsession he embarked upon. At the University, he met a professor
by the name of M. Waldmen, Victor s source of inspiration and his introduction to what he says was
his sole occupation (29), the reanimation of life. Victor seemed to have found his true meaning of life
and set out to make this discovery and wouldn t stop working until he reached the answer. His
curiosity of the psychical sciences increased everyday along with his obsession of creating the
creature and untimely starting a second one. Throughout the story, Victor encounters two situations
where he has to put everything on hold and create something that will forever change his life. The
place where Victor first begins his mental downfall begins in his laboratory in Ingolstadt, a large town
near the south end of Germany. Victor s laboratory was a solitary chamber, or rather a cell, at the top
of the house, and separated from all the other apartments (33). During the time period of creating the
creature, Victor s psychological state transformed from a happy, intelligent man who s only desire

The Governing Body Of Soccer
The People s Game Soccer
Football, fútbol, fußball, soccer. No matter what the name, it is a sport that is played throughout the
world. The current governing body of soccer is the Fédération Internationale de Football Association
(FIFA) headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. Just like any large cooperation, they are not without
fault when it comes to integrity issues, such as the recent corruption scandal in 2015. Nonetheless, the
idea of the game was created to be pure in order to have friendly competition. The concept of the
game in which is known today was established in 1863 in England. However, the origins of the game
have been scientific traced dating back to the second and third centuries in China (FIFA). In 1863, the
game that was played centuries before split into two factions; one faction continued to use their hands
and became rugby, the other became soccer. Breaking the soccer down to the basics of today; each
team is allowed to have 11 players on the field, goal keepers are the only ones allowed to use their
hands, and the objective is to get the spherical ball into the other team s goal without using their
hands. The evolution of the game has allowed soccer become the best sport in the world because it
teaches teamwork, goals, and camaraderie.
The word teamwork is used very regularly; however, it is much easier said than done, especially when
it comes to sports. Teamwork is about remaining positive, having trust, accepting responsibility,

`` The Custom House `` By Nathaniel Hawthorne
Journal Entry 1: The Custom House Romanticism is the movement in literature that emphasizes
inspiration, selfhood, and the authority of the individual. The purpose of The Custom House is that it
provides the framework for the main idea of The Scarlet Letter and it also describes Hawthorne s life.
The narrator, who shares similar traits with Nathaniel Hawthorne, takes a post as the chief executive
officer, or surveyor, of the Salem Custom House. The author s attitude toward his former job is that
the building extremely run down and the Custom House serves the small ship traffic going through the
port, but it is usually a quiet place requiring only minimal work. Hawthorne describes his fellow
workers as elderly and have been working at the Custom House their how lives. The only reason why
they are there is through family connections and they repeatedly tell the stories. So, what I take from
this is that he did not like his old job, the reason being is that he only speaks negative about everything
relating to his former job. Hawthorne addresses the reader directly and it causes an effect by showing
that he s trying to connect with all sorts of people. He describes the letter as scarlet, gold embroidered
piece of cloth in the shape of the letter A . Which makes me feel that if they put all that time into
making it look nice, that there is some type of importance related to it.

Indians And The Columbian Exchange
The Columbian Exchange is a huge exchange of goods and ideas between the old world and the new
world. The old world is considered Europe, Asia and Africa and the new world is considered America.
Their colonies started to trade with each other and that s when they formed the Columbian Exchange.
Many countries were involved in this trade, including China, Africa and Italy. The exchange of the
new ideas, traditions, food, religion and diet changed cultures everywhere. The Natives gave and
received many items. Even though Europeans and American Indians saw some similarities in each
other, their words differed. The introduction of plants into the new world extended a process that had

That had to be the worst thing ever to have to deal with. Some of the diseases were: small pox,
measles, chicken pox, malaria, influenza and cholera, along with others. The ending result and the
ultimate result of the whole Columbian Exchange was negative because of the spread of the diseases
to the Indians and European, it created a lot of things and introduced new pests to the New World. The
disease did not only spread to the Europeans to the natives, but the natives passed syphilis to the
Europeans. Almost 90% of the Indians died due to the disease between 1492 and 1650. The disease
did the stop the Europeans from trying their best to get make it to the New World. They could not
avoid getting sick but it did not and could not stop them from invading Europeans. Clearly, imported
disease had the most ruinous influence on the lives of Indians. Cooperative labor was required for
hunting and gathering, and native groups faced extinction if disease caused a shortage of labor.
Besides goods, disease and other things, the Columbian exchange was also apart of slavery. When
slavery came most of the Native Americans has been killed off by the diseases that they has caught.
The Europeans had now brought slaves in to work for them on the land. When you think of slaves you
think of the south, but only 5% of the slaves brought to the New World started importing slaves in the
1620 s and it didn t end until the Civil War. It is still true that slavery has existed long

Benetton History and Present Structure
When Luciano and Giuliana Benetton, both grown up under the harsh conditions of war and post war
Italy, founded Benetton group in 1965, they probably did never dream that one day their company
would among the most famous in the fashion industry. Yet, 34 years later, Benetton is present in 120
countries and Edizione Holding, the holding company of the family is now making a yearly turnover
of XXX billion Lira[1]. Not at least due to their controversial advertising campaigns which sparked
strong reactions around the world, from outright ban to art awards, Benetton has become known

In 1992, these activities were bundled in a separate division, called Benetton Sportssystem. The
production of sports equipment was supplemented by the production of sports wear, the aim being to
provide the customer with both the equipment and the clothing, thus realizing synergies from the
existing textile manufacturing facilities[5]. Benetton Sportssystem is the fastest growing division of
Benetton group and it already represent 21,3% of turnover[6]. With 55% of its sales realised in North
America, it is also much less focused on Europe[7].
While Benetton Sportssystem was still in connection with its original business, in the 1990s Benetton
diversified into areas which were rather far from it, like retailing or the restaurant business. The
acquisition of shares in Autogrill, world leader in catering services for travelers, and GS Gruppo,
leader in the Italian food distribution sector, left the Benetton family with 700 supermarkets, 21
hypermarkets and over 650 restaurants, producing a combined turnover of more than 13,000 billion
Lira (more than three times the turnover of the actual Benetton group)[8]. Reasons for this
diversification into areas remote from their core business might be found in the wish to take advantage
of the privatization of national industries presently in progress in Italy and to profit from the

  • 2. The Culture Of The Mexican Culture How many different types of cultures are there? Here s the answer there are many cultures. My story starts like this; both of my parents are from Guadalajara well most of my family is from that part of México. Being part of the Mexican culture is very different from other cultures, but every culture is unique of its own way. Many Mexican people have preserved and still do many of their ancestors traditions. Tradition plays a big role in my family for example: the food we eat, the music we listen to, what we dance to and what we celebrate to. I wanted a sweet sixteen but of course being Mexican my parents said no. Being in the Mexican culture tradition is that when you turn 15 you re supposed to have a Quinceanera it symbolizes that you are no longer a kid but you are now a young women. Many people think a Quinceanera is just a party but the real tradition is to have a church mass. Since I am catholic that consists of me going to church and thanking God. Social behaviors impact your life in many ways. You have roles and rules in your cultures. When you re with your friends you act a different way. When it has to do with family or church groups you have a role and rules and your behavior is different. Women and Males have different rules and roles. Mother is supposed to stay home and Father is supposed to work to help his family. Women are not supposed to do yard work their job is inside. That has changed with the year s most ... • 3. United States Isolationist Policy During the Inter-War Years United States Isolationist Policy During the Inter War Years After the First World War many people in the United States wanted to turn their backs on European and other world affairs. This has been a policy of isolationism. If this term is used to mean having nothing to do with the outside world, then the USA was clearly not isolationist as it was involved in a number of important international issues. The term can more accurately be used, however, to mean refusing to become involved in international disputes and conflicts. The single most important feature of American isolationism was the decision not to join the League of Nations. America felt that if they did join they would be dragged into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the First World War over 100, 000 American men were killed. They decided on this policy because they basically didn t want the same thing to happen. This was confirmed in 1920 when the republican President Warren Harding came to power. He was totally against getting involved in foreign affairs. The United States, while refusing to become involved in foreign disputes, was, however, actively involved in preventing them from beginning. For example in 1921 2 after WW1 the USA helped set up the Washington Naval Agreement. This was to prevent Britain, Japan, France and Italy from increasing their navies and having an arms race like the one before 1914. They also had a ten year ban from producing any new battleships. Also, the US secretary of state, Frank Kellog, helped the development of the Kellog Briand pact in 1928. It made all the major powers try to avoid waging war with each other. The USA also took part in the Geneva Peace Conference of 1932 and the World Economic Conference of 1933. Also, throughout the whole time after WW1 the USA did not object to immigrants landing on it s shores. All these things strongly suggest that the United States were never isolationist in the first place. The Americans also gave economic aid to countries which were in crisis of falling apart or to countries who they thought would be a treat. At the end of WW1 Germany was left in ruins, ... • 4. The Doctor-Patient Relationship Is The Primary Mode Of The doctor patient relationship is the primary mode of cognition that is at the heart of the discourse of medicine and bioethics. Healthcare is constructed around encounters between practitioners and patients, and the relationship between them is integral to how the cultures of healing are at work and represented in literature, in history and social sciences around the world. Life and mortality are two great questions of being that perennially haunt the human existence; and physicians play the most significant role in negotiating between the physical and the metaphysical worlds of being, suffering and trying to find cure and comfort as long as life goes on. The cultures of healing across time, space and nationality explored however ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is Foucault s famous observation in The Birth of the Clinic ( as translated into English in 1973) where he illustrates the doctor patient relationship in terms of power, and the subject object hierarchy. The diseased body is in disorder, in a state of displacement, and its subjectivity is erased as it becomes subject to the doctor s examination. In several literary works of the nineteenth century, such representations of doctor patient relationship are to be found as corresponding to the Foucauldian pattern, that is, turning the patient s subjectivity into an object of the doctor s authoritative gaze. However, since Foucault himself has elsewhere insisted on the double meaning of subject (1982, 212), it is possible to problematize the doctor patient relation and attempt to come to terms with one s own subject object position within the established discourse of medical gaze. It is interesting, however, to examine how literary representations of doctor patient relationships across cultures and nationalities have interrogated the notion of seeing as an alternative mode of vision. Opthalmology as a special branch of medical science established itself quite seriously in the Victorian period. Wilkie Collins Poor Miss Finch (1872) is a medical surgical novel , and the surgery is operated on the eye. Beneath the story ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Kober Khadr Case Study On July 27, 2002 a fifteen year old Canadian citizen Omar Khadr was captured by US forces in Afghanistan. Khadr was captured for the murder of unarmed medic Christopher Speer. The US had held Khadr for a period of ten years (from 2002 2012). During this time, Canada did not fulfill its obligation to protect Omar Khadr and his rights. Canada failed to protect Khadr and his rights during three instances: Firstly, during the rough interrogation that involved various types of torture Canada did not speak up for Khadr nor did they fight for his rights. Secondly, Canada did not request for the right of Extradition when Khadr was captured, instead letting the US hold him for ten years. Lastly, Canada assisted the unfair prosecution of Khadr while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When terrorists from other countries such as Britain and Australia were captured the countries put pressure on the US to release extradite the prisoners back to their home countries. Canada had not asked nor demanded for this, it seems as though Canada was supporting the US s treatment of Khadr. Canada had to take back Khadr once it was publicized that he was being tortured almost every day. In addition to this, Prime Minister Stephen Harper had confidence that the US military would try Khadr in a fair manner, but obviously he was wrong as Khadr was forced to sign an unfair plea that would basically force him into Canada. Dennis Edney Khadr s former lawyer states He has fought for close to eight years to get a pair of protective glasses to preserve the amount of sight remaining in Omar s one eye with vision. He received them in November of last year. That is the extent of the help Omar has received from the Canadian government, they can t even get him a pair of glasses. (Edney 5). Khadr was going blind in Guantanamo and requested a pair of glasses for eight years. Canada did not comply and didn t even speak to Guantanamo about getting Khadr glasses; instead, they let the US treat the Canadian citizen very harshly and not even provide him with a pair of glasses. Canada did not care about Khadr instead they just let the US deal with him unfairly. Canada should have been more involved in the treatment of Khadr and should not have supported the US while they were violating Khadr. Unlike the other countries such Britain and Australia Canada did not pressure the US to extradite Khadr. In addition to this, they stood by the US s strong torture methods due to the fact that Canada did not speak up when Khadr was sent to Guantanamo, even though Guantanamo was famous for torturing its prisoners. ... • 6. Worldview Essay Worldview Essay Today s society consists of many worldviews. Most people tend to pull beliefs from different religions, but often stick to one main worldview. A worldview to me is the gathering of beliefs that shape what we do on a daily basis and forms our overall view on life. When I look at my beliefs critically, I am able to see my worldview and see how it compares to different worldviews, but also how it compares mainly to the Christian Worldview. My view of God is very similar to the non denomination Christian Worldview. I believe that God is an omnipotent Trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit that oversees the entire universe. I believe that God created everything in his image, including man. Because He rules over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If not, they are condemned to hell. The nature of the universe is something that very few worldviews can agree on. Many peoples worldviews are mainly concerned with materialistic things because there is no supernatural being; it is merely an arrangement of particles. However, I believe that the universe is an illusion (Cosgrove, 2006, p. 30). To me, it is an illusion that is able to leave us to a life and afterlife filled with God. What makes the difference is what a person truly believes in at the end. Whether someone believes in a materialistic universe or the illusion of the universe that leads to a God filled life decides how he or she lives his or her life. Personally, I believe all that matters in the end is God and my faith in Him. The question of how I know what I know is a question that is one of the most difficult I have encountered. Much of what I know is based on logic and thinking. This is where I may veer off of the Christian Worldview slightly. I believe that God has given humans the ability to reason and think logically, and I use that as much as possible. I think that He intended for us to use our minds to find what we believe to be true, hoping that people would seek God when seeing that He is the only real truth. • 8. The Effects Of Video Advertisements On Society Essay Introduction Video advertisements are quick and momentary but their influence is pervasive and prolonged. The power of video advertisements shape norms and common societal expectations on how a person should look and behave. Overtime these gender roles (societal expectations associated with men and women) and behaviors become implicit thus implying normal (or in some instances ideal) men and women should exhibit these qualities and characteristics. Subconsciously, video advertisements impact a person s perception of what it means and what it takes to be a man or woman. The objective of this paper is to observe secondary socialization, ...learning behaviors and attitudes associated with specific situations and roles... , in YouTube video advertisements by comparing recurring patterns, symbols, statuses, and roles directed to men and women (Lecture Notes Nalkur 7). In addition, this paper seeks to explain how YouTube video advertisements act as socializing agents by portraying arguably exaggerated yet stereotypical traits of men and women that influence watchers perceptions and beliefs about their own gender identity and that of others. Methods The approach of this study was to obtain a total of eight YouTube video advertisements. Four of which focus on women/women s products and the other four video advertisements focus on men/men s products. The YouTube video advertisements were obtained randomly by watching the YouTube channels I normally visit. All video ads were obtained ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Analysis of Animal Characters in Alice in Wonderland by... Why are animal characters so popular in children s literature? Why do they tend to be either fierce or friendly? How do animal characters impact children s literature? In Alice s Adventure in Wonderland, the animal characters are very weird. They were supposed to guide Alice through the traditional fairytale world she has created, but instead they were negative influences on this child. I believe the audience expected that animal characters are supposed to because they are the ones who should be a role model for kids to look up or when they read it. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since Alice saw him disappeared in the dark, it seemed that he was trying to drag her to go in the dark well. This rabbit behavior is very weird because it grabbed Alice s attention and wanted her to go after her. In our world, the rabbits never want to grab our attention or want us to know where they are. From Del Toro s Pan Labyrinth, it is connected to Ofelia when she saw the fairy tales in the wood. I am applying Fairytales as rabbit. When the rabbit hopped away and disappeared in hole, Alice was upset because she thought that it was supposed to guide her to the world that she has created just like Ofelia. In my personal experience as a kid, every time I see a rabbit or squirrel, I used to go after them. All the times, they went in the hole or in the wood. I was upset that I couldn t go after them anymore just like Alice and Ofelia. Alice s head struck against the roof of the hall and she was more than nine feet high. She sat down and began to cry. Alice felt very desperate that she was ready to ask anyone for help. According to Carroll 1865, p. 8, when the White Rabbit came near her, she began in a low, timid voice, If you please, Sir The White Rabbit started violently, dropped the white kid gloves and the fan, and scurried away into the darkness as fast as he could go. In my opinion, Lewis Carroll disobeyed the audience by using rabbit as animal character. He didn t do what the audience would expect. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each answer should be a paragraph length (about 5 6 sentences). 1. How is this essay constructed? Describe the parts of the piece (and how many, etc.) Provide brief descriptions of the work that each part is doing and how it goes about doing it. Deep Play: Notes on the Balinese Cockfight is divided into eight or nine sections, each with their own distinct style and message. The first section is titled The Raid and is told in the style of a narrative. In it, Geertz reflects on his time in Bali with his wife in April of 1958. He reflects on the way the Balinese people treated him; during his first week or so in Bali, Geertz and his wife were treated as though they didn t exist. After witnessing a cockfight and running away just like the Balinese people who also attended, however, Geertz and his wife were treated as though they were Balinese themselves, and were completely accepted into Balinese society. In the second section, Of Cocks and Men , Geertz reflects on different aspects of Balinese culture and how Balinese men, despite cockfighting being illegal, strongly identify with it and even use the term to refer to different types of men and their personalities. Books such as these are often very thoroughly studied and observed just because of how long ago they were written. It s enjoyable to experience the type of writing a completely different time period was able to produce. However, with all the praise the pieces get, comes great skepticism as well. A major event in both pieces of writing is a divine inspired flood. Both books also have very similar characteristics within each of their flood stories. The myth they are referring to is that of Gilgamesh and his flood. It is believed that the books could have been written up to 2800 years apart. Knowing the difference in time between the writing of the two books is an essential step in understanding how Noah s flood was just retold from the original flood of Gilgamesh. The most important part of revealing the copying of Gilgamesh s flood is in all the different characteristics the floods share. Some of the similarities are very striking (icr.org, 1). The Revolutionary Theory Of Class Struggle Benjamin Guerrero Prof. Fatovic / POT 3054 December 7, 2015 Progress through the Struggle Karl Marx, chief characteristic was singleness of purpose, his idea of happiness was to fight and his idea of misery was submission, his inspiration was the rebel slave leader Spartacus, who was a violent gladiator fighting for his freedom. His favorite motto was that you must have doubts about everything and lastly his favorite color was red. Many philosophers interpret the world, but the important thing is to change it and Marx wanted to explain the conditions under which many citizens lived. Since The Soviet Revolution from 1917, almost more than 30 countries have claimed to be inspired by Marx s philosophy. The revolutionary theory of Class Struggle (PG 220, The Marx Engels reader) have inspired a chain of revolutions throughout the world, but the Marxists states that have resulted, are not what he advocated for. These new governments were violent, repressive, oppressive and autocratic. One can find the promise of revolution hidden on his most famous and lengthiest work, his book called Capital; A text that gave catalyst for the chain of ideas that have inspired a world movement. Coral reefs do numerous amounts of things; for example, they provide habitats for various types of living organisms, they protect shorelines from storm damage, and produce and sustain white sandy beaches. Although coral reefs look feeble, they are actually strong and durable during certain conditions. Coral reefs are capable of recovering from brutal storms and even volcanic eruptions as long as the dusts and sediments settle and are washed away. Before the reefs can begin their healing process, the water condition needs to be clean and clear of all toxins. What s killing the coral reefs then? Sadly, human enterprise is simultaneously destroying coral reefs directly and reducing their capacity to recover (Fujita,2003). First, we will talk about 3 major threats human enterprise has on the coral reefs. Keep in mind that the threats mentioned are not the only threats out there. We shall then talk about evidence against some of these topics. Last, we will talk about how these threats towards our coral reefs affect us humans; along with ways to change our environment. Annotations to the article imply that some outside influence caused a revision to update some charts to only display gun related homicides and exclude suicides and accidental deaths. Sullum critiques the study and points out a different perspective from the same data. He underscores that the rankings can be drastically altered by focusing on homicides and not including suicides. Wyoming is ranked for having a high suicide rate but a low homicide rate whereas the District of Columbia has a low suicide rate but high homicide rate. (Sullum) The National Journal shows that the six states with the lowest rates of gun related deaths in 2013 also have relatively strict gun policies when considering the laws for purchasing and carrying handguns. She described homosexuality as tearing down the foundation of the family unit and compared gays to prostitutes and thieves. She tried to convince the public that the traditional family was being threatened and that practicing or accepting homosexuality was blasphemy. As he did throughout his encounters with all kinds of people, he also stated that he often broke the tension when giving a speech to mostly straight men by telling a joke. The narrator, who shares similar traits with Nathaniel Hawthorne, takes a post as the chief executive officer, or surveyor, of the Salem Custom House.
