Essay On Cultural Diversity In India
Crafting an essay on the subject of cultural diversity in India is both a challenging and rewarding
endeavor. The complexity arises from the vastness and richness of India's cultural tapestry, which
encompasses a myriad of languages, traditions, religions, and customs. The challenge lies in
presenting a comprehensive overview while also delving into the intricacies and nuances that
define each cultural facet.
One must navigate through the historical evolution of India's diverse cultural landscape, touching
upon the influences of ancient civilizations, invasions, and migrations. Simultaneously, it
becomes imperative to explore the coexistence and intermingling of various cultural elements, as
well as the tensions and harmonies that have shaped the nation's identity.
Moreover, addressing the contemporary scenario demands a keen understanding of the dynamic
nature of cultural diversity in India. The essay should reflect on the impact of globalization,
urbanization, and technological advancements on traditional practices, emphasizing how these
forces contribute to both preservation and transformation.
Balancing objectivity while celebrating the unique aspects of each culture is another layer of
complexity. It is essential to present a fair and respectful representation of different communities
without perpetuating stereotypes or biases. This involves extensive research, sensitivity, and a
nuanced approach to ensure a well-rounded and inclusive portrayal.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on cultural diversity in India requires a blend of historical
insight, sociological analysis, and cultural sensitivity. It demands a meticulous weaving of facts,
perspectives, and personal reflections to provide a comprehensive understanding of the
multifaceted nature of India's cultural mosaic.

Essay on The Hard Rock Company
The Hard Rock CafГ© (HRC) and the Hard Rock Hotels / Casinos is a highly
successful series of ventures that serves up fun, music, food, nostalgia and
beverage. The HRC is also famous for its music collectibles, including guitars used
by icons in the industry (i.e. Madonna, Jimi Hendrix, etc), fashion merchandise, live
concerts, and Hard Rock Live performance venues. The first Hard Rock CafГ© was
opened on June 14, 1971, in London, England. Founded by Isaac Tigrett and Peter
Morton, HRC became well known and successful almost immediately. Tigrett went
out and opened HRCs in New York City, Boston, Washington D.C., Dallas, Orlando,
Paris and Berlin, while Morton developed HRCs in Chicago, Houston, San Francisco

strategy has changed over time since 1971. It has moved from a London small
cafГ©, to food plus entertainment, to food plus an experience. Restaurant goers don
t just want a meal; increasingly, they want an experience, and Hard Rock s operation
strategy is designed to provide that experience. ВІ HRC claims its mission is to

Their success and growth come from adopting this experience strategy. While a

pretty radical ideas a for profit corporation reminding people to be kind and to save

needs of less fortunate people, have had a powerful influence on other restaurants.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Should one follow society s rules for marriage, love, class, and gender expectations or
their heart regardless of the judgment of others? Jane Austen explores these themes in
her novel Pride and Prejudice, which takes place in the early nineteenth century. In
this famous novel, Elizabeth Bennet, who is the protagonist, is intelligent, witty, and
the most sensible of the five Bennet sisters, who all face challenges with social rules
and expectations. Conflicts and parental pressure arise through Mrs. Bennet whose
only goal in life is to marry her daughters off.
Austen s tone gives an overview of the plot via the famous first line, It is a truth
universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be
in want of a wife. (Austen 1). This establishes the gender expectation theme of the
novel. Austen includes a dramatic and humorous rising action, climax, resolution, and
falling action. In many ways Pride and Prejudice is funny, dramatic, and relatable
with the use of irony, as well as sarcasm. Austen introduces a series of dynamic
characters and static characters that play important parts in the plot who face internal
challenges.
Austen introduces and develops the theme of prejudice in both Elizabeth and Darcy.
The two first meet at the ball, where Mr. Bingley suggests that Darcy should dance
with Elizabeth. He responds, She is tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me;
and I am in no humor at present to give consequence to young ladies who
Essay about Disney vs. Masculinity

Disney vs. The Future of Men: How have our beloved animated movies affected the
men of yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Thesis: The constructs of masculinity found in most Disney movies create an
environment of images that shape and define what young boys view as masculinity.
By presenting sexist relationships, physical expectations, and violence and dominance
to represent power, young boys are left feeling emotionally unattached and physically
inadequate.
How many Disney movies did you see as a child? How many of those movies did you
watch over and over again? And how many of the songs you so lovingly watched
over and over again can you still sing today? The Walt DisneyCompany has ... Show

After a while these images begin to shape what young boys know and what they
understand about the world around them. This is not an immediate effect, but
instead a slow accumulative effect that is much more subtle than we are aware of.
One of the biggest problems with this process is that the Disney conglomerate has
spanned over nearly five generations, so no one thinks to challenge the idea that an
animated Disney movie is a great way to entertain children while simultaneously
sharing with them a piece of traditional culture. One of the most destructive ways in
which classic animated Disney movies are providing young boys with false and
distorted images of masculinity, are the ways in which men are shown in
relationship to women. Most Disney movies revolve around a heterosexual
relationship containing a hero and heroine. Feminists have studied what these
characters tell girls about themselves, but it is just as important if not more
important to understand what these movies are telling boys about how real men
interact with and treat women. Often the message to boys both explicitly and
implicitly is that men should view women as objects of pleasure or as servants to
please them. A perfect example of this misrepresentation is in the movie Mulan. In
Mulan, and entire song called A Girl Worth Fighting For , explains what a man is
looking for in a woman. Some of these traits include cooking, cleaning, and looking
beautiful for her husband. This quote
Learning Outcomes Of Virtual Labs
Learning Outcomes of Virtual Labs compared to Hands On Labs With many
schools experiencing budget issues or simply don t have the room nor the ability
to justify the extra expense of a science lab, many schools are looking online for
virtual resources. The need to increase science literacy is almost a mandate from
our dear president. This is a good thing, but the problem is people don t want to
spend money. NGSS demands more cognitive understanding of all sciences and
engineering practices. Schools are looking to increase the level of science
achievement of their students. Students generally found lab experiences valuable,
and viewed lab experiences as beneficial to their learning. (Pyatt, 2012, p. 145)

The Two Towers Gollum Quotes
Imagine venturing across a land full of evil and obstacles too treacherous to
mention. You encounter some help but not much; yet have a long way to go
before you reach your destination. In The Two Towers, Gandalf along with
Aragon, Pippin, Merry, Legolas, Gimli, and the Ents battle hoards of Orcs as they
make their way to Isengard to stop the evil of Saruman. Frodo and Sam with the
help of Gollum, a creature who desires the ring, are on their way to the Evil land of
Mordor where Frodo plans to destroy a ring that caused all of this evil to become
all that it is. While reading The Two Towers I have questioned the relationship
between characters, evaluated the motives of Gollum, and predicted what will
happen to the ring. When Gandalf and the group with him went to visit Theoden, a
king with lots of power over the land, it seemed to me at first that they perhaps did
not know each other. As the meeting progressed it became more and more apparent to
me that they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gollum is more of a self centered creature. All he cares about is the ring and will
do anything to get it. As the reader we can see that Gollum is smart for accepting
the chance to lead Frodo and Sam because he has the upper hand. He knows the
territory he is about to lead Sam and Frodo into, while they do not. The reader
knows that Gollum plans to overpower Sam and Frodo and steal the ring when he
says We promised: to save our precious, not to let Him have it never (Tolkien 283).
The precious Gollum is talking about is the ring. At this point Gollum is a hunter
waiting for Frodo and Sam to come out into the open. When they do,
BAMв є(Onomatopoeia), Gollum will be there to take the ring. Going back to
what I said earlier. Gollum is very self centered and acts with great duplicity. As
soon as he has what he wants he will vanish. And you will never see him

The Portrayal Of Archaeology In Indiana Jones Fox
Archaeology in the media is portrayed as very high risk and thrilling. Not to
diminish the excitement of archeology, but the portrayal of archeology in movies is
extremely exaggerated and far from accurate. In Indiana Jones Indy is often plagued
by so many forces that try to set him back from his archaeological goals. He faces
looters, booby traps, destructive weather, etc...
Looters, while they are a very real problem and threat to the modern search for lost
history are depicted as bloodthirsty evil individuals on a self serving mission for
power and wealth. I think that we as a society can agree that looting is wrong and
that it is a selfish practice that diminishes the knowledge and value of our history as
a whole. But looters are not usually what they are made out to be in the film. More
often than not, looters are underprivileged people that loot to support their family.
Many times they are misguided and/or ignorant to their actions consequences. They
are not getting rich from their finds, and are not innit to get wealthy and power. It is
a sad cycle in reality that often starts with young children. Many times groups of
children would loot during the day to pass time or make some money, ... Show more

In the film the archaeologists seem to just be running rampant. Everything is very
fast paced and thrilling; they are constantly involved in chases and fights through the
local towns. In reality this is rare if not non existent. Archaeologists are not only
tasked with uncovering the past but additionally must tread carefully around locals.
They should disturb the community as little as possible and often have positive
interactions with them. A good example of this is how Dr. Morag helped to educate
children in the middle east about the consequences of looting ancient
Holocaust Museum Subjectivity
The Holocaust was a scary event that took place in Germany and killed many Jews.
There were heaps of human hair that were shaved from there scalps. This is an
objective reason that is backed up by facts of what happened. Objectivity in some non
fiction texts show that statements are measurable, observable, and factual. Also
subjectivity is based off of emotions, feelings, and opinions. Some non fiction texts
include topics in a very objective and subjective way, meaning that the author intends
to inform readers with opinions and facts. The article, At the HolocaustMuseum by
David Oliver Relin is balanced between objectivity and subjectivity.
In At Holocaust Museum there are many examples of objectivity. For example in the
article it says In 1933, there were more than nine million Jews living in continental
Europe. Within a dozen years, two thirds of them would be dead . This shows the
impact of word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Objectivity is important for the article so people have a idea of some of the facts
which are very important for the Museum, However subjectivity for the audience
could give a better understanding of how it felt and also draw more attention to the
Museum itself. Objectivity should be used when reading articles, or many different
informational sources, also subjectivity is important for giving the audience a clear
thought and opinion. Objectivity is important because you need to have objectivity
in order to use subjectivity, but you can use more objectivity in a nonfiction article.
Subjectivity is key because it can give the audience advice, emotions, and feelings so
they can have a good understanding from different people. Therefore, in this article
with both objectivity and subjectivity is balanced and needed in many
The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy Essay
The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy
Thomas Hardy wrote the novel The Mayor of Casterbridge in 1886. Two of the
main characters, Donald Farfrae and Michael Henchard have a contrast in luck and
Hardy uses characterisation, language, historical and social background and a craft
in the structure of his novel to help bring across this point. During this essay I am
going to comment upon how Hardy does this and further consider the view that,
Farfrae s good fortune is a result of Henchard s ill luck.
Throughout the novel there are many examples of Farfrae s good fortune resulting in
Henchard s ill luck. One of the most important examples in the book is when
Henchard and Farfrae both gamble on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both of these types of characterisation link in with Farfrae s good fortune and
Henchard s ill luck.
Hardy creates Henchard not as an evil man but more of tragic hero. This is a
person with a fatal flaw. Henchard s main flaw is his temper. This first adds to his
ill luck right at the start of the novel when he sells Susan and his daughter in a
drunken angry state. Even though this does not directly link in with Farfrae s
good fortune (as he is not present in the start of the novel) it does later on in the
novel when the furmity seller arrives back and tells the court of Henchard s secret.
When Henchard admits to what is being said by the old women all respect is lost
for him and he looses his role of town mayor. When Farfrae finally becomes mayor
near the end of the novel (after the mayor after Henchard dies) his good fortune is
a result of Henchard s ill luck which is the result of his fatal flaw. Hardy also uses
fate against Henchard throughout the whole novel. An example of this is when
Henchard and Farfrae both hold a dance for the townspeople. Farfrae has his in a
barn whereas Henchard s is out in the open. When it rains on the night of the dance
everyone turns out to Farfrae s even Susan and Elizabeth Jane. This leads to Farfrae
s popularity rising and Henchard s to carry on decreasing (as the dance was a hope to

Icarus Mythology
Once upon a time, there were a father and a son, imprisoned in a tower by a king of
an island. Trying to escape from the island, the father made wings out of birds
feathers and wax, for himself and his son. When it was finally the time to escape,
the father warned his sun not to fly too high or too low. They were happy and
celebrating their freedom, until the son became entranced by his excitement and flew
too high, neglecting his father s advice. Then, as the father s warning, the wax in the
wings melted and dismantled due to the heat. Consequently, the son ended up
drowning in the sea (Cartwright Daedalus ). The tale mentioned above is one of the
most famous Greek myths of a young boy, Icarusand his architect father, Daedalus. It
is also known as the Icarus myth. Greek mythologies, like the Icarus myth, is much
more than just stories; it reflects the rituals and beliefs of the ancient Greeks. It was a
part of living in the ancient times (Livingstone and Dowden 2 3). These myths help
understand cultural and ritual practices of that period, as the arts, culture, and
literature were particularly based on them. Likewise, many paintings, poems and
compositions have been made reflecting the Icarus myth, which leads to better
understanding of the morals behind the myth.
The Icarus myth has many different interpretations. People like Danny Miller, author
of The Icarus Paradox, used the myth to explain how exceptional companies, like
IBM, Polaroid and Litton Industries, brought
George Orr s Loss Of Power
Throughout history, there has been many leaders or individuals who have taken
power over their followers and anyone else under them. They pick and choose what
they want to do with the power they have and whether they want to use it for good
or bad. More often than not it is utilized towards good and helping others. But when
it is not, it can lead to the destruction of the person with the power and of the
followers of the leader. Though having powers can be one of the best things in the
world, it can also be the worst because it can drive people away from helping others, it
makes them believe that they can change another persons thoughts and feelings, it
makes them believe they can change their surroundings and the future, and ultimately

But sometimes having power can be a downfall for some. Many would agree that
power comes with great responsibility, for example leaders such as the president or
teachers and parents. All of whom are thought as people who are there to help
others in some aspect. In the novel The Lathe of Heaven, by Ursula K. Le Guin,
character George Orr begins receiving help from Dr. Haber to stop changing reality
with his dreams. Soon after, Dr. Haber realizes George s powers are real, he begins
to use his powers to his advantage and stops helping George with his dreams.
George realizes it and he says, It s the chance of power that my dreams give him
that twists him around. (75) He knows that his power has gotten to Dr. Haber and
that he is being used by him to achieve greater things for himself rather than help
him. In Out of Control!? How Loss of Self Control Influences Prosocial Behavior:
The Role of power and Moral Values, by Anne Joosten, Marius van Dijke, Alain
Van Hiel, and David De Cremer, it states, We argue that people need power to feel
that they can refrain from helping others . The individual who possesses power
ultimately feels superior to everybody else, leading him away from the helpful person
he was in the beginning. Feeling superior then also enables the person to manipulate

Mcteague Character Analysis
Reverting Back to a Greedy Animal In the novel McTeague by Frank Norris, the
author touches on various themes throughout the novel. Many of the characters
exhibit animalistic qualities, greediness, and/or both. Characters are often compared
to as animals, while others let their greed overcome them. Some characters McTeague
and Trina also return to a previous place and/or state of being. Of all the themes
noted in McTeague, the animal like qualities, the greed, and the reversionof the
characters are major reoccurring themes that can be found in the selected passage
on page 323 of the novel. One of the main significance of the passage on page 323
is the mention of animalist characters. For example, the main character, McTeague,
is depicted as having a strange sixth senses, that obscure brute instinct that was
warning him of something that was about to happen (Norris 323). A sixth sense is
an inborn instinct that most animals have. It acts a warning that something is about
to happen or someone will appear. It is this instinct that causes McTeague believe
someone or something is coming for him and to flee from the mine. Also, McTeague
is often described as a brute, which is another term for a savage animal. The
reference to a brute is seen various times throughout the novel and describes the
innate nature of McTeague. Frank Norrisdepicts McTeague as a draft horse,
immensely strong, stupid, docile, obedient (3). Draft horses were often used for labor
work similar to
Spindle MT Dynamics
Microtubule
During mitosis, MT dynamics dramatically increase and the formation and tension of
kinetochore MTs is important for the correct attachment with the centromere,
separation of tetrads, and segregation of chromosomes (24). Indirect evidence
suggests that the common mechanism underlying the inhibition of spindle MT
dynamics, results in the deceleration of the metaphase anaphase transition, defective
segregation of chromosomes, mitotic block and subsequent induction of the
mitochondrial pathway of apoptosis.(24, 25)
DATS basically mediates in thiol/Disulfide exchange by redox modification of
specific reactive cysteines resulting in thiolyation of the protein like actin
microfilament and ОІ tubulin causing depolymerization of actin filament and
microtubule leading to M Phase cell cycle arrest.(26)
Hosono et al. demonstrated that treatments with DATS induced an increase in the
molecular weight of Mt subunit, tubulin by 71.2 Da, which corresponds to the mass
of the fragment of mercapto allyl group originating from DATS, as well as from
SAMC, indicating that S allyl adducts to Cys12beta and Cys354beta are the main
event in triggering microtubule network disassembly and inducing interphase
arrest.(27)
It was reported that SAMC, but not S allyl cysteine (SAC), is able to interfere with
microtubule polymerization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the basis of structural composition, the presence of numerous reactive cysteines
residue on actin, it cannot be excluded that allyl compounds may induce redox
modifications also at the actin level. Based on theinvolvement of cytoskeleton in

critical role in the induction of cell cycle arrest and apoptosis by destabilizing the
imperative cytoskeletal filaments of the
Apache Culture Vs Indian Culture
Long before Christopher Columbus set sail from Spain and landed on Watling Island
in the Bahamas, was a dynamic and nomadic group inhabiting the plains of America.
These independent migrants were known as the Native Americans and only a few
still exist in modern day. The culture of the Native Americans pushed across the
South and East and eventually formed diverse culture areas each with distinct
habitats and characteristics in several regions of the nation. In the Artic region resides
the Inuit and Aluet, the northeast regions comprises of Iroquoian and their
Algonquian neighbors, whereas the southeast indigenous tribes are known for the
Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole. Moving across America,

Although all Native Americans derive great dignity and personify resilient character,
the Apache tribe attributed some of the greatest measures of self determination in the
battlefield. Their adaptive and dexterous abilities are great examples of a community
rebounding from economic and political disturbances. Possessing solitude and strong
character on and off the battlefield earned them the moniker of being a prevailing
nomadic group. What I gained most from this project was how the Apache tribe had
such a significant impact on modern day weaponry and were able to avail from times

Kyoto Inferno Essay
The Rurouni Kenshin : Kyoto Inferno is just as good as the first unlike some
swordplay genre movies like Solomon Kane, The mask of Zorro, The Duelists, and
The Vampire Hunt which are very brutal. The Rurouni Kenshin Kyoto Inferno and
its leading character Himura Kenshin also known as Hitokiri Battosai is very
admirable for he refuses in vowing to never kill again. This movie have the right mix
of being faithful with the plot and changing a little of the original storyline to be
consistent with the first. Every characteris well played by the actors. The costmes and
the setting also added in setting the mood of the movie. For a whole major arc of the
manga or anime squeezed into a two hour movie, The Rurouni Kenshin: Kyooto
Inferno had made an impressive one.
The movie is around civil war era assassin Shishio Makoto with his Juppongatana, a
group of ten master swordsmen whose skills are legendary as their brutality, who
wants to overthrow the government. Much like Kenshin, Shishio is also an assassin
before the Meiji Era but is betrayed and escaped his master s plan of his death. Due
to this, he takes up his sword to take revenge to the government that he once served.
Because of their threat to set fire the whole Tokyo, the Meiji... Show more content on

As a result, the movie is fast paced but the director makes up for some downtime so
the viewers can have the time to think and take a breath with the action packed
scenes. The director of Kyoto Inferno covers a massive chunk of the story easily of
the entire Shishio arc. For a non avid fan but have watched the anime, Samurai X,
this movie had made a decent job in its adaptation. Still there is a small weak point in
this movie. The ten master swordsmen, Juponggatana, were very much just in the
background. Also, Aoshi s back story was drastically changed that his struggle was

Essay On Year Round School
Once a student enters the building on their first day of school they long await
summer break. Yet, districts around the nation are changing that, instead of giving a
two and a half summer vacation, they are asking students to go to school instead. This
is a controversial issue because some parents agree with the decision, while others
don t. Instead of vacations and lying around at home during summer break, students
will be given more textbooks, homework and tests. Although they do attend school
throughout summer break, they do get periods of time off throughout the school year
which gives them a break. The government should apply the year round schooling

Argumentative Essay On Anthrax
Introduction
Anthrax is most commonly known as the 2001 Bioterror attacks ( CDC, 2016).
After 9/11 several letters tainted with Anthrax were sent out, infecting and killing
several people in a matter of days. The word Anthrax derived from Greek word
Anthrakos, that means coal. It is believed to have a history that stems from the
book of Exodus 5th and 6th plagues. This story tells how Moses took soot and tossed
it into the air. The dust covered all of Egypt and boils covered Pharoah s animals and
his people (Decker , 2003). Bacillus anthracis is the organism that causes anthrax. The
spore bearing bacillus can lay dormant in the soil for years or decades. In the soil is
where the bacteria waits for a host to multiply and vegetate. Anthrax is mainly a
disease of animals such as sheep, cattle, and goats. The animals would get infected

Similarities Between African Elephants And Columbian
Mammoths
Evolution by Natural Selection: Tate Museum Report
DNA has shown many genetic similarities between Columbian mammoths and
African elephants. Based on their skeletal structure both animals are expected to be
around twelve feet tall and fifteen feet long. They similarly grew tusks extending
from their jaw to around fourteen feet in length, which weighed up to 150 pounds.
These massive tusks were used in defense and for daily chores such as digging,
lifting, and gathering food. Both animals are herbivores and mainly graze upon
grasses, although they eat leaves on occasion.
Although genetics seem to point to elephants being evolved from mammoths, there
are quite a few differences to argue; namely their weight, tusks, and their hair.
Mammoths weighed nearly twice as much as an elephant at ten tons (22,000 pounds)
while the elephant is a mere three tons (6,000 pounds). The main cause in weight
difference is the thicker bones in the legs of the mammoths. While both behemoths
possess large tusks, the mammoths were rounded toward their faces whereas the
elephants are straight outward. Since mammoths inhabited North America during the
Ice Age they produced a dense coat of fur for warmth; elephants have very little hair
due to their warm environments.
Although there are many similarities between the two, the African elephant did not
evolve from the Columbian mammoth; they share a common ancestor. Many selection
pressures in their environments brought the differences. For instance,
Predictive Accuracy And Modelling For Explanatory Power
Essay
Through using R, we have created a set of models that help to predict the
likelihood of a customer churning. By working together in the analysis stage we
were able to bounce ideas off one another and grasp a further understanding of the
data and customer churn. We created two different models: modelling for
predictive accuracy and modelling for explanatory power. What is our team
structure? In the group we have four team members that consists of three males
and one female; Ryan Campion, Samuel O Connell, Hunter Stewart, and myself,
Hannah Lowe. We ve all worked really well together. Everyone has contributed and
we have managed to meet the allocated times set to doing this assignment. There
has been no group issues, or any person putting in any less effort than the other. In
the analysis stage we tackled it as a group: we didn t work as individuals. We
worked on one computer and used the lab work we had done prior to aid us with
our models. The reason for this is that we were confused slightly as how to read the
models from the start; by discussing it with one another we were able to grasp a
better concept of what we were looking for. In the reporting stage we all worked
independently, within our own time frame. There was a discussion on the findings
from the data, which is in our reports, but in our own words. The presentation was
worked on collectively. I organised the parts that were to be discussed, these areas

is to analyse the impact of three different Flexible Alternating Current Transmission
System (FACTS) devices on a power system and to analyse their capabilities with
respect to various disturbances. FACTS devices discussed in this paper are Static Var
Compensator (SVC), Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) and Unified
Power Flow Controller (UPFC). The impact on power flow and Power Oscillation
Damping due to these devices is analysed in detail. Simulations based on different
choices of Power Oscillation Damping (POD) signal are simulated for small and
large disturbance incurred on the system. Effect of Linear (residue method) and
Non linear (CLF) based POD signals on the system is shown in the paper. Impact
of each device is considered separately followed by a comparative study between
them. All simulations are done with the help of SIMPOW and all figures are plotted
in MATLAB .

Black Woman Research Paper
This research aims to discover the motives of black women and their hair/hairstyles
they choose. In an attempt to answer this question, I observed a salon that dealt with
a predominantly black female clientele. While there, I noted the dynamics between
the hairdressers and the clients: whether the stylist have an input/impact on what
hairstyles are chosen, what are the intentions or goals of the women when they
choose a style?, and what the style the majority of them gravitate towards? It was a
very friendly atmosphere so I was able to interact with both the customers and the
clients and obtain more information beyond the physical/visual aspect of the
environment. Upon analyzing the field notes I had taken on location, I observed
several trends among the different participants; those being that peer influence, time,

Essay about From Ireland to America
America is the world s melting pot. American heritage stems from all over the world.
The Irish are the second largest group to immigrate to the United States, and they
have left their mark on the American culture (Gavin 7). Kevin Kenny argues that The
Irish immigrants of the famine era were the most disadvantaged the United Stateshad
ever seen. The Irish potato famine was caused by a fungus that caused the potato to
rot in the ground. Between the years 1845 and 1850 over one million Irish died of
starvation. Another one and a half Irish immigrated to other countries. Since their
main source of food was gone they became refugees of the famine. If they had not
left they would have died of starvation or diseases. The journey to America... Show

The poor people of Ireland were dependant on the potato because they were easy to
grow, lasted a long time, and the only crop the British left for them ( The Irish
Potato Famine, 1847 ). In 1845 the potatoes started to rot in the ground. Over one
million Irish men and women died of starvation. The famine also caused many
diseases like Typhus (Mintz). Many of the people who were starving and infected
tried to escape Ireland by going to the United States. The Irish at this time were
predominantly catholic. Joseph O Grady says, Their deep respect for Christianity,
bordering on blind fanaticism, gave the Irish their own hope peace and happiness in
the next world (31). The Irish had very tough lives in Ireland when they were under
the control of the British.
The journey to America was very long and rough. The Irish immigrants were
refugees of the potato famine. If they had stayed in Ireland, they most likely would
have died. Since the poor people of Ireland were dependant on potatoes they had to
escape or choose to die. Another threat to the Irish was the deadly diseases caused
by the famine. The famine helped spread diseases like typhus, cholera, dysentery,
and scurvy all over Ireland. Over 1 million people died of these diseases or
starvation (Mintz). The ships they came over on were often called coffin ships. The
tickets for these ships were very expensive, and most Irishmen could not afford to go

national historic landmark of SantaMonica. The family of Looff ran the pieruntil 1923
when it was sold to the SantaMonica amusement company. These were a group of the
local businessmen whose main aim was to expand the amusement dream.
The SantaMonica pier
The SantaMonica pier is known for the gem, which is located at its southern end. The
Santa Monica pier is 106 years old. The pier is popular with photographed Ferris

William James. S Lost Souls In Ursula Le Guin s Utopia...
William James s Lost Souls in Ursula Le Guin s Utopia , is an academic journal
article written by the author, Linda Simon. The article was published as a feature
scholarly journal by the John Hopkins University Press s and was written for
philosophy and literature. The article contributes to the study of literature because it
showcases an example of comparative literature. In this instance, Simon analyzes
Ursula Le Guin s short story, The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas to the
argumentative essay which inspired Le Guin s short story, The Moral Philosopher
and the Moral Lifewritten by William James. By comparing the two texts, author
Linda Simon analyzes the differences in moral and ethical codes in hopes to provide
justification and reasoning for the decisions that the citizens of Omelas make to
either stay or leave despite knowing their society is built upon a dark foundation.
I chose to analyze Simons article because I enjoyed reading the philosophical
contrast made between both Le Guin s and James s literary pieces. James in many
instances opposes the tone of disgust that Le Guin provides within her short story by
asserting the idea that the Omleians who choose to stay are guided by a higher
source of power and in their minds, are doing what is just, versus, his opinion that the
ones who leave do not enact a philosophical revolution among those who stay. They
give no reasons for their defection, and they propose no alternative action for the
community. They do not
Yum Brand Essay
Overview/ Yum! Brand in China;
On a global scale, YUM brand is the largest restaurant company in the world with 13
billion in total revenue in 2014. In the year 2014, Yum! Brand has opened over 1000
international units with an average of 3 units opening a day. This rate of expansion is
unheard of in the modern restaurant business.
Yum! Brand first entered the Chinese market through opening a KFCstore in Beijing,
the first of its kind in China, in 1987. Since 1987, YUM! Brand has successfully
established a firm foundation in the competitive Chinese market, it is the largest food
delivery service in China and is unparalleled in terms of market share against any fast
food business in China. Currently YUM! Brand has over 3,000 KFC stores in 650
cities and nearly 500 pizza huts in 120 cities.
This phenomenal rate of expansion in China alone is the result of a mixture of
Pricing and Marketing strategies specifically designed for the China market.
Starting from 1987, the first KFC store was hugely attractive to Chinese citizens. It
mainly targeted consumers who are willing to spend more to get a taste of Western
cuisine therefore the price of products in the restaurant are above that of normal
Chinese food at that time. The first restaurant was a huge success, serving on
average 9,000 customers per day and YUM brand was able to break even within the
first year.
Over the next five years, Yum slowly opened new restaurants. We wanted to go faster,

The On Liberty By John Stuart Mills
ON LIBERTY In John Stuart Mills profound work, On Liberty he preaches against
the conformity of the nations and outwardly encourages and restlessly defends voice
of the individual. The philosopher expresses the importance of individuality by
warning against forces such as the government and other citizens silencing their
opinion. Though Mill s gives due recognition to virtues such as free speech, liberty
and individualism he also rightly places limitations on our freedoms to ensure our
own freedoms do not infringe upon the ones of those around us. In essence, I believe
that Mill s insightfully provides a logical answer to society on how to live and how to
allow others to live; freely unless harm will ensue. By Mills statement that, [i]f all
mankind minus one were of one opinion, mankind would be no more justified in
silencing that one person than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing
mankind one can gain insights into his justification for this argument, the limitations
that should rightly be placed on free speech, the assumptions that are the basis for this
argument. Throughout Mills essay he argues against the oppressive tyranny of the
government in silencing the opinions of others. He warns that, there needs to be
protection also against the tyrant of the prevailing opinion of feeling; against the
tendency of society to impose... its own ideas on those who dissent from them (Mills
9). Further, Mills justifies this statement by

it was the fear of anarchy that lead police into arresting innocent people. This act of

Argumentative Essay On Horoscopes
Horoscopes are frequently consulted in day to day life. They are a diagram of the
heavens, showing the relative position of planets and the signs of the zodiac
(Dictionary.com, 2015) that use the time of a birth to foretell events in a person s
life. People have attempted to explain the seemingly illogical events of life such as:
wars; weather abnormalities; economic hardship, and the link between people s lives
to the stars above. This resulted in the making of a combination of religion and
science astrology(Grabianowski. E, 2005). While most people who read daily
horoscopes treat them as nonsense, others use them to guide their lives are more
than likely influenced by them. There has always been an argument about the
reliability of horoscopes and whether people should blindly place their faith in them
or not. It needs to be determined whether astrology should be treated as a real
science instead of a pseudoscience; whether people should live by their horoscopes;
if different religions have their own way of reading and making horoscopes; and
what people use horoscopes for.

Case Study Of Blu-Ray
Introduction and Purpose
We are discussing two fascinating case studies in this essay. Firstly we will discuss
the important topic of Dominant Design and look at the case study of Blu Ray to
demonstrate the significance of how multidimensional a new technology value offers
a customer and how it rises to dominance.
The purpose of this essay is to explain the factors behind consumers, retailers and
movie producers support towards Blu Ray versus HD DVD and discuss the criteria
behind selection of the former being a dominant design.
We then discuss the important topic of Collaboration networks between two or
more companies and the significance of business marriages for innovation purposes
in order to attain more at a faster rate as well as reduce risk. We look closely at
companies such as Dyesol, a shining example of successful collaborations and others

their own or with partner/partners.

Happiest Day Of My Life Essay
The clicking of my mother s new heels to the steam coming off of my fathers new
coat jacket after being steamed had me thinking that something was going on for
them tonight. But also pondering about why I wasn t getting dressed up as fancy as
them. I wondered if they were hiding something from me again. The last time that
happened, I ended up having a new living being in my house and it turns out that they
keep telling me that it is my new brother... or whatever that means. Although tonight,
the last time I saw him was when his babysitter picked him up. All I thoughtat that
moment is that I was the happiest girl alive and that I could spend the entire night
with my parents alone, but it turned out that it wasn t the case at all. In the end, it
turned out that I was left with my older cousin, Kelly, in a gigantic house along with
being locked in.
One moment in what I thought was the happiest day of my life turned out to be the
worst. But of course, my mother, Kelly a list of things I can and cannot do while they
are out.
Don t let her go through the kitchen, I have all her snacks and dinner sitting on the
table. She shouldn t be going into her father s office. Make sure she goes to bed at
her curfew, 8:00 p.m. Don t forget to remind her to brush her teeth...
Mom! I old enough to know that!
Sweetie, me and your father are going to an adult meeting. I m sorry. But that is
why your brother got picked up by his babysitter. Did you want me to have her pick
you up too?
Conflict Between The Islamic State Of Iraq And Syria
Conflict due to differences in religious beliefs can be seen throughout the course of
human history. The most current of these conflicts lies between the Islamic State of
Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and the United States of America. New York Times journalists
Mark Landler and Eric Schmitt recently wrote an article highlighting an event that
exemplifies this clash, specifically, the ISIS jihadists beheading a second journalist,
Steven J. Sotloff, and releasing an uncensored video to be viewed by the world. The
article highlights some of the complexities surrounding the killing, such as political
strategies, mainly on the American side, the tone of President Obama s response, and
as the legitimacy of the video. In addition to politics, Landler and Schmitt also write
on the military implications of Sotloff s death. The article quotes Daniel Benjamin, a
former counterterrorism coordinator, on the possibility of sending troops to Syria and
the pressure that ISIS has put on the United States. Likewise, they mentioned the
possibility of a bill being introduced to Congress to allow President Obama to order
airstrikes in Syria, though this is still tentative.
While the political and military implications of ISIS s actions are discussed in the
first half of the article, there is a noticeable shift to the emotional and moral
implications of the released video in the second half of the video. Landler and
Schmitt highlight the impact Sotloff s death had on his family. His mother is
To agree with the statement, disguise and deception is...
To agree with the statement, disguise and deception is used widely by Shakespeare.
Throughout the play we only see Viola in her disguise as Cesario . From Act 1,
Scene 2, we see her planning on using the disguise of a man to serve Orsino. The
interactions between her and the other characters show dramatic ironyas they do not
realise who Cesario actually is, however the audience does. Orsino, at the start of Act
2, scene 4 says Now good morrow, friends; Now, good Cesario. Orsino does not know
the actual person he is talking to when he praises Cesario, just the same when he
says Cesario is semblative a woman s part , saying that Cesario looks like a woman.
For Shakespeare s audience there was a heightened level of irony because at that...

This is when Portia and Nerissa disguise themselves as men, specifically a lawyer
and a clerk, as a way to save Antonio. This links into the way Viola uses an inner
disguise to shield her real personality, she first goes into her disguise at the docks
in Act 1, scene 2 when she says to the Captain Conceal me what I am, and be my
aid. For such disguise as haply shall become the form of my intent. This shows how
she is covering up what I am [she is] a woman, by the personality and physical
disguise of a man. From this point onwards there is comedy due to the fact that she is
disguised as a man and is fooling every other character, with the audience knowing
all about this. This also shows that Shakespeare respects the audience enough to
not have them fooled by Viola s disguise ;and he shows more sexual equality, as
Viola plays a major part in the story and without her the play would have a lot less
comedy. The structure of the play relies mostly on her actions, for example there
would have been no love triangle without her and all the other characters would not
have been deceived by her. Therefore, there would be no dramatic irony to create
amusement. So, the dramatic irony of Viola s disguise makes characters seem
ignorant and ridiculous creating comedy, but also through the audience s knowledge
of Viola s true identity. Shakespeare resolves this confusion by Viola revealing herself
in the last act, making it a zenith ending, with all the characters present
Domino Effects Of The Age-Graded System
The age graded system, which is the most commonly known structure that group
students by age, was implemented in the United States in the mid 1800 s. With this
structure, students get promoted to the next grade level based on how well they
mastered the skills taught. Subsequently, if the student did not meet the expectations
to advance to the next grade level the studentis retained in that same grade to repeat
it. It was believed that repeating the grade level would provide the student with the
opportunity to catch up with the other students academically. In today s times not
everyone shares the same old belief on grade retention. Which has many people
asking, should students who fail their classes be retained to repeat the grade level? It

A recent, systematic review of research exploring dropping out of high school
indicates that grade retention is one of the most powerful predictors of dropping out
of high school (Jimerson 6). This alarming fact should be the main reason to stop
grade retention in schools. Especially since interventions provide an alternative that
promotes the student keeping them engaged and in school. It costs roughly $18
billion per year to keep grade retention an option in schools (Powell 29), which results
in the student eventually dropping out. Instead, these funds should be used towards
intervention programs that promote success and prevent some of the negative
consequence s grade retention presents, possibly at a fraction of the cost. With that
being said, schools should be providing targeted interventions in order to provide
students with the best chances of

  • 2. Essay on The Hard Rock Company The Hard Rock CafГ© (HRC) and the Hard Rock Hotels / Casinos is a highly successful series of ventures that serves up fun, music, food, nostalgia and beverage. The HRC is also famous for its music collectibles, including guitars used by icons in the industry (i.e. Madonna, Jimi Hendrix, etc), fashion merchandise, live concerts, and Hard Rock Live performance venues. The first Hard Rock CafГ© was opened on June 14, 1971, in London, England. Founded by Isaac Tigrett and Peter Morton, HRC became well known and successful almost immediately. Tigrett went out and opened HRCs in New York City, Boston, Washington D.C., Dallas, Orlando, Paris and Berlin, while Morton developed HRCs in Chicago, Houston, San Francisco and Los Angeles. It has moved from a London small cafГ©, to food plus entertainment, to food plus an experience. Restaurant goers don t just want a meal; increasingly, they want an experience, and Hard Rock s operation strategy is designed to provide that experience. ВІ HRC claims its mission is to spread the spirit of rock n roll by creating authentic experiences that rock. В№. Their success and growth come from adopting this experience strategy. While a first time customer spreads the mustard and ketchup on a thick juicy hamburger, and takes that first sip of a frozen margarita, he or she should read the HRC motto, just below the mission statement. The idea of HRC is to Love all Serve All, and moreover, All is one...Save the Planet...Take time to Be Kind. Those are some pretty radical ideas a for profit corporation reminding people to be kind and to save the planet when it comes to comparison of HRC with other restaurant chains. But it would appear that companies like HRC and Starbucks, that go out of their way to publicize and advocate for the urgent environmental needs of the planet and the needs of less fortunate people, have had a powerful influence on other restaurants. Chili s for example is proud to support St. Jude Children s Research Hospital Ві.Customers can use crayons at Chili s restaurants to draw
  • 3. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Should one follow society s rules for marriage, love, class, and gender expectations or their heart regardless of the judgment of others? Jane Austen explores these themes in her novel Pride and Prejudice, which takes place in the early nineteenth century. In this famous novel, Elizabeth Bennet, who is the protagonist, is intelligent, witty, and the most sensible of the five Bennet sisters, who all face challenges with social rules and expectations. Conflicts and parental pressure arise through Mrs. Bennet whose only goal in life is to marry her daughters off. Austen s tone gives an overview of the plot via the famous first line, It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. (Austen 1). This establishes the gender expectation theme of the novel. Austen includes a dramatic and humorous rising action, climax, resolution, and falling action. In many ways Pride and Prejudice is funny, dramatic, and relatable with the use of irony, as well as sarcasm. Austen introduces a series of dynamic characters and static characters that play important parts in the plot who face internal challenges. Austen introduces and develops the theme of prejudice in both Elizabeth and Darcy. The two first meet at the ball, where Mr. Bingley suggests that Darcy should dance with Elizabeth. He responds, She is tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me; and I am in no humor at present to give consequence to young ladies who
  • 4. Essay about Disney vs. Masculinity Joseph Delia Spring 2011 Emile Zaslow Disney vs. The Future of Men: How have our beloved animated movies affected the men of yesterday, today and tomorrow. Thesis: The constructs of masculinity found in most Disney movies create an environment of images that shape and define what young boys view as masculinity. By presenting sexist relationships, physical expectations, and violence and dominance to represent power, young boys are left feeling emotionally unattached and physically inadequate. How many Disney movies did you see as a child? How many of those movies did you watch over and over again? And how many of the songs you so lovingly watched over and over again can you still sing today? The Walt DisneyCompany has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After a while these images begin to shape what young boys know and what they understand about the world around them. This is not an immediate effect, but instead a slow accumulative effect that is much more subtle than we are aware of. One of the biggest problems with this process is that the Disney conglomerate has spanned over nearly five generations, so no one thinks to challenge the idea that an animated Disney movie is a great way to entertain children while simultaneously sharing with them a piece of traditional culture. One of the most destructive ways in which classic animated Disney movies are providing young boys with false and distorted images of masculinity, are the ways in which men are shown in relationship to women. Most Disney movies revolve around a heterosexual relationship containing a hero and heroine. Feminists have studied what these characters tell girls about themselves, but it is just as important if not more important to understand what these movies are telling boys about how real men interact with and treat women. Often the message to boys both explicitly and implicitly is that men should view women as objects of pleasure or as servants to please them. A perfect example of this misrepresentation is in the movie Mulan. In Mulan, and entire song called A Girl Worth Fighting For , explains what a man is looking for in a woman. Some of these traits include cooking, cleaning, and looking beautiful for her husband. This quote

Learning Outcomes Of Virtual Labs Learning Outcomes of Virtual Labs compared to Hands On Labs With many schools experiencing budget issues or simply don t have the room nor the ability to justify the extra expense of a science lab, many schools are looking online for virtual resources. The need to increase science literacy is almost a mandate from our dear president. This is a good thing, but the problem is people don t want to spend money. NGSS demands more cognitive understanding of all sciences and engineering practices. Schools are looking to increase the level of science achievement of their students. Students generally found lab experiences valuable, and viewed lab experiences as beneficial to their learning. (Pyatt, 2012, p. 145) Definitions Technology and virtual... In The Two Towers, Gandalf along with Aragon, Pippin, Merry, Legolas, Gimli, and the Ents battle hoards of Orcs as they make their way to Isengard to stop the evil of Saruman. Frodo and Sam with the help of Gollum, a creature who desires the ring, are on their way to the Evil land of Mordor where Frodo plans to destroy a ring that caused all of this evil to become all that it is. While reading The Two Towers I have questioned the relationship between characters, evaluated the motives of Gollum, and predicted what will happen to the ring. • 9. The Portrayal Of Archaeology In Indiana Jones Fox Archaeology in the media is portrayed as very high risk and thrilling. Not to diminish the excitement of archeology, but the portrayal of archeology in movies is extremely exaggerated and far from accurate. In Indiana Jones Indy is often plagued by so many forces that try to set him back from his archaeological goals. He faces looters, booby traps, destructive weather, etc... Looters, while they are a very real problem and threat to the modern search for lost history are depicted as bloodthirsty evil individuals on a self serving mission for power and wealth. I think that we as a society can agree that looting is wrong and that it is a selfish practice that diminishes the knowledge and value of our history as a whole. But looters are not usually what they are made out to be in the film. More often than not, looters are underprivileged people that loot to support their family. Many times they are misguided and/or ignorant to their actions consequences. They are not getting rich from their finds, and are not innit to get wealthy and power. It is a sad cycle in reality that often starts with young children. Many times groups of children would loot during the day to pass time or make some money, ... Everything is very fast paced and thrilling; they are constantly involved in chases and fights through the local towns. In reality this is rare if not non existent. Archaeologists are not only tasked with uncovering the past but additionally must tread carefully around locals. They should disturb the community as little as possible and often have positive interactions with them. A good example of this is how Dr. Morag helped to educate children in the middle east about the consequences of looting ancient
  • 10. Holocaust Museum Subjectivity The Holocaust was a scary event that took place in Germany and killed many Jews. There were heaps of human hair that were shaved from there scalps. This is an objective reason that is backed up by facts of what happened. Objectivity in some non fiction texts show that statements are measurable, observable, and factual. Also subjectivity is based off of emotions, feelings, and opinions. Some non fiction texts include topics in a very objective and subjective way, meaning that the author intends to inform readers with opinions and facts. The article, At the HolocaustMuseum by David Oliver Relin is balanced between objectivity and subjectivity. In At Holocaust Museum there are many examples of objectivity. For example in the article it says In 1933, there were more than nine million Jews living in continental Europe. Within a dozen years, two thirds of them would be dead . This shows the impact of word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Objectivity is important for the article so people have a idea of some of the facts which are very important for the Museum, However subjectivity for the audience could give a better understanding of how it felt and also draw more attention to the Museum itself. Objectivity should be used when reading articles, or many different informational sources, also subjectivity is important for giving the audience a clear thought and opinion. Objectivity is important because you need to have objectivity in order to use subjectivity, but you can use more objectivity in a nonfiction article. Subjectivity is key because it can give the audience advice, emotions, and feelings so they can have a good understanding from different people. Therefore, in this article with both objectivity and subjectivity is balanced and needed in many
  • 11. The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy Essay The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy Thomas Hardy wrote the novel The Mayor of Casterbridge in 1886. Two of the main characters, Donald Farfrae and Michael Henchard have a contrast in luck and Hardy uses characterisation, language, historical and social background and a craft in the structure of his novel to help bring across this point. During this essay I am going to comment upon how Hardy does this and further consider the view that, Farfrae s good fortune is a result of Henchard s ill luck. Throughout the novel there are many examples of Farfrae s good fortune resulting in Henchard s ill luck. One of the most important examples in the book is when Henchard and Farfrae both gamble on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both of these types of characterisation link in with Farfrae s good fortune and Henchard s ill luck. Hardy creates Henchard not as an evil man but more of tragic hero. This is a person with a fatal flaw. Henchard s main flaw is his temper. This first adds to his ill luck right at the start of the novel when he sells Susan and his daughter in a drunken angry state. Even though this does not directly link in with Farfrae s good fortune (as he is not present in the start of the novel) it does later on in the novel when the furmity seller arrives back and tells the court of Henchard s secret. When Henchard admits to what is being said by the old women all respect is lost for him and he looses his role of town mayor. When Farfrae finally becomes mayor near the end of the novel (after the mayor after Henchard dies) his good fortune is a result of Henchard s ill luck which is the result of his fatal flaw. Hardy also uses fate against Henchard throughout the whole novel. An example of this is when Henchard and Farfrae both hold a dance for the townspeople. Farfrae has his in a barn whereas Henchard s is out in the open. When it rains on the night of the dance everyone turns out to Farfrae s even Susan and Elizabeth Jane. This leads to Farfrae s popularity rising and Henchard s to carry on decreasing (as the dance was a hope to regain some
  • 12. Icarus Mythology Once upon a time, there were a father and a son, imprisoned in a tower by a king of an island. Trying to escape from the island, the father made wings out of birds feathers and wax, for himself and his son. When it was finally the time to escape, the father warned his sun not to fly too high or too low. They were happy and celebrating their freedom, until the son became entranced by his excitement and flew too high, neglecting his father s advice. Then, as the father s warning, the wax in the wings melted and dismantled due to the heat. Consequently, the son ended up drowning in the sea (Cartwright Daedalus ). The tale mentioned above is one of the most famous Greek myths of a young boy, Icarusand his architect father, Daedalus. It is also known as the Icarus myth. Greek mythologies, like the Icarus myth, is much more than just stories; it reflects the rituals and beliefs of the ancient Greeks. It was a part of living in the ancient times (Livingstone and Dowden 2 3). These myths help understand cultural and ritual practices of that period, as the arts, culture, and literature were particularly based on them. Likewise, many paintings, poems and compositions have been made reflecting the Icarus myth, which leads to better understanding of the morals behind the myth. The Icarus myth has many different interpretations. People like Danny Miller, author of The Icarus Paradox, used the myth to explain how exceptional companies, like IBM, Polaroid and Litton Industries, brought
  • 13. George Orr s Loss Of Power Throughout history, there has been many leaders or individuals who have taken power over their followers and anyone else under them. They pick and choose what they want to do with the power they have and whether they want to use it for good or bad. More often than not it is utilized towards good and helping others. But when it is not, it can lead to the destruction of the person with the power and of the followers of the leader. Though having powers can be one of the best things in the world, it can also be the worst because it can drive people away from helping others, it makes them believe that they can change another persons thoughts and feelings, it makes them believe they can change their surroundings and the future, and ultimately in... Many would agree that power comes with great responsibility, for example leaders such as the president or teachers and parents. All of whom are thought as people who are there to help others in some aspect. In the novel The Lathe of Heaven, by Ursula K. Le Guin, character George Orr begins receiving help from Dr. Haber to stop changing reality with his dreams. Soon after, Dr. Haber realizes George s powers are real, he begins to use his powers to his advantage and stops helping George with his dreams. George realizes it and he says, It s the chance of power that my dreams give him that twists him around. (75) He knows that his power has gotten to Dr. Haber and that he is being used by him to achieve greater things for himself rather than help him. In Out of Control!? How Loss of Self Control Influences Prosocial Behavior: The Role of power and Moral Values, by Anne Joosten, Marius van Dijke, Alain Van Hiel, and David De Cremer, it states, We argue that people need power to feel that they can refrain from helping others . • 17. Mcteague Character Analysis Reverting Back to a Greedy Animal In the novel McTeague by Frank Norris, the author touches on various themes throughout the novel. Many of the characters exhibit animalistic qualities, greediness, and/or both. Characters are often compared to as animals, while others let their greed overcome them. Some characters McTeague and Trina also return to a previous place and/or state of being. Of all the themes noted in McTeague, the animal like qualities, the greed, and the reversionof the characters are major reoccurring themes that can be found in the selected passage on page 323 of the novel. One of the main significance of the passage on page 323 is the mention of animalist characters. For example, the main character, McTeague, is depicted as having a strange sixth senses, that obscure brute instinct that was warning him of something that was about to happen (Norris 323). A sixth sense is an inborn instinct that most animals have. It acts a warning that something is about to happen or someone will appear. It is this instinct that causes McTeague believe someone or something is coming for him and to flee from the mine. Also, McTeague is often described as a brute, which is another term for a savage animal. The reference to a brute is seen various times throughout the novel and describes the innate nature of McTeague. Frank Norrisdepicts McTeague as a draft horse, immensely strong, stupid, docile, obedient (3). Draft horses were often used for labor work similar to

After 9/11 several letters tainted with Anthrax were sent out, infecting and killing several people in a matter of days. The word Anthrax derived from Greek word Anthrakos, that means coal. It is believed to have a history that stems from the book of Exodus 5th and 6th plagues. This story tells how Moses took soot and tossed it into the air. The dust covered all of Egypt and boils covered Pharoah s animals and his people (Decker , 2003). Bacillus anthracis is the organism that causes anthrax. • 24. Similarities Between African Elephants And Columbian Mammoths Evolution by Natural Selection: Tate Museum Report DNA has shown many genetic similarities between Columbian mammoths and African elephants. Based on their skeletal structure both animals are expected to be around twelve feet tall and fifteen feet long. They similarly grew tusks extending from their jaw to around fourteen feet in length, which weighed up to 150 pounds. These massive tusks were used in defense and for daily chores such as digging, lifting, and gathering food. Both animals are herbivores and mainly graze upon grasses, although they eat leaves on occasion. Although genetics seem to point to elephants being evolved from mammoths, there are quite a few differences to argue; namely their weight, tusks, and their hair. Mammoths weighed nearly twice as much as an elephant at ten tons (22,000 pounds) while the elephant is a mere three tons (6,000 pounds). The main cause in weight difference is the thicker bones in the legs of the mammoths. While both behemoths possess large tusks, the mammoths were rounded toward their faces whereas the elephants are straight outward. Since mammoths inhabited North America during the Ice Age they produced a dense coat of fur for warmth; elephants have very little hair due to their warm environments. Although there are many similarities between the two, the African elephant did not evolve from the Columbian mammoth; they share a common ancestor. Many selection pressures in their environments brought the differences. For instance,

By working together in the analysis stage we were able to bounce ideas off one another and grasp a further understanding of the data and customer churn. We created two different models: modelling for predictive accuracy and modelling for explanatory power. What is our team structure? In the group we have four team members that consists of three males and one female; Ryan Campion, Samuel O Connell, Hunter Stewart, and myself, Hannah Lowe. We ve all worked really well together. Everyone has contributed and we have managed to meet the allocated times set to doing this assignment. There has been no group issues, or any person putting in any less effort than the other. In the analysis stage we tackled it as a group: we didn t work as individuals. We worked on one computer and used the lab work we had done prior to aid us with our models. The reason for this is that we were confused slightly as how to read the models from the start; by discussing it with one another we were able to grasp a better concept of what we were looking for. In the reporting stage we all worked independently, within our own time frame. There was a discussion on the findings from the data, which is in our reports, but in our own words. The presentation was worked on collectively. I organised the parts that were to be discussed, these areas were the distributed to other members. We all wrote

The article was published as a feature scholarly journal by the John Hopkins University Press s and was written for philosophy and literature. The article contributes to the study of literature because it showcases an example of comparative literature. In this instance, Simon analyzes Ursula Le Guin s short story, The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas to the argumentative essay which inspired Le Guin s short story, The Moral Philosopher and the Moral Lifewritten by William James. By comparing the two texts, author Linda Simon analyzes the differences in moral and ethical codes in hopes to provide justification and reasoning for the decisions that the citizens of Omelas make to either stay or leave despite knowing their society is built upon a dark foundation. I chose to analyze Simons article because I enjoyed reading the philosophical contrast made between both Le Guin s and James s literary pieces. James in many instances opposes the tone of disgust that Le Guin provides within her short story by asserting the idea that the Omleians who choose to stay are guided by a higher source of power and in their minds, are doing what is just, versus, his opinion that the ones who leave do not enact a philosophical revolution among those who stay. The philosopher expresses the importance of individuality by warning against forces such as the government and other citizens silencing their opinion. Though Mill s gives due recognition to virtues such as free speech, liberty and individualism he also rightly places limitations on our freedoms to ensure our own freedoms do not infringe upon the ones of those around us. In essence, I believe that Mill s insightfully provides a logical answer to society on how to live and how to allow others to live; freely unless harm will ensue. By Mills statement that, [i]f all mankind minus one were of one opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind one can gain insights into his justification for this argument, the limitations that should rightly be placed on free speech, the assumptions that are the basis for this argument. They are a diagram of the heavens, showing the relative position of planets and the signs of the zodiac (Dictionary.com, 2015) that use the time of a birth to foretell events in a person s life. People have attempted to explain the seemingly illogical events of life such as: wars; weather abnormalities; economic hardship, and the link between people s lives to the stars above. • 42. Conflict Between The Islamic State Of Iraq And Syria Conflict due to differences in religious beliefs can be seen throughout the course of human history. The most current of these conflicts lies between the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and the United States of America. New York Times journalists Mark Landler and Eric Schmitt recently wrote an article highlighting an event that exemplifies this clash, specifically, the ISIS jihadists beheading a second journalist, Steven J. Sotloff, and releasing an uncensored video to be viewed by the world. The article highlights some of the complexities surrounding the killing, such as political strategies, mainly on the American side, the tone of President Obama s response, and as the legitimacy of the video. In addition to politics, Landler and Schmitt also write on the military implications of Sotloff s death. The article quotes Daniel Benjamin, a former counterterrorism coordinator, on the possibility of sending troops to Syria and the pressure that ISIS has put on the United States. Likewise, they mentioned the possibility of a bill being introduced to Congress to allow President Obama to order airstrikes in Syria, though this is still tentative. While the political and military implications of ISIS s actions are discussed in the first half of the article, there is a noticeable shift to the emotional and moral implications of the released video in the second half of the video. Landler and Schmitt highlight the impact Sotloff s death had on his family. His mother is

Throughout the play we only see Viola in her disguise as Cesario . From Act 1, Scene 2, we see her planning on using the disguise of a man to serve Orsino. The interactions between her and the other characters show dramatic ironyas they do not realise who Cesario actually is, however the audience does. Orsino, at the start of Act 2, scene 4 says Now good morrow, friends; Now, good Cesario. Orsino does not know the actual person he is talking to when he praises Cesario, just the same when he says Cesario is semblative a woman s part , saying that Cesario looks like a woman. For Shakespeare s audience there was a heightened level of irony because at that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is when Portia and Nerissa disguise themselves as men, specifically a lawyer and a clerk, as a way to save Antonio. This links into the way Viola uses an inner disguise to shield her real personality, she first goes into her disguise at the docks in Act 1, scene 2 when she says to the Captain Conceal me what I am, and be my aid. For such disguise as haply shall become the form of my intent. This shows how she is covering up what I am [she is] a woman, by the personality and physical disguise of a man. From this point onwards there is comedy due to the fact that she is disguised as a man and is fooling every other character, with the audience knowing all about this. This also shows that Shakespeare respects the audience enough to not have them fooled by Viola s disguise ;and he shows more sexual equality, as Viola plays a major part in the story and without her the play would have a lot less comedy. The structure of the play relies mostly on her actions, for example there would have been no love triangle without her and all the other characters would not have been deceived by her. Therefore, there would be no dramatic irony to create amusement. So, the dramatic irony of Viola s disguise makes characters seem ignorant and ridiculous creating comedy, but also through the audience s knowledge of Viola s true identity. Shakespeare resolves this confusion by Viola revealing herself in the last act, making it a zenith ending, with all the characters present

With this structure, students get promoted to the next grade level based on how well they mastered the skills taught. Subsequently, if the student did not meet the expectations to advance to the next grade level the studentis retained in that same grade to repeat it. It was believed that repeating the grade level would provide the student with the opportunity to catch up with the other students academically. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A recent, systematic review of research exploring dropping out of high school indicates that grade retention is one of the most powerful predictors of dropping out of high school (Jimerson 6). This alarming fact should be the main reason to stop grade retention in schools. Especially since interventions provide an alternative that promotes the student keeping them engaged and in school. It costs roughly $18 billion per year to keep grade retention an option in schools (Powell 29), which results in the student eventually dropping out. Instead, these funds should be used towards intervention programs that promote success and prevent some of the negative consequence s grade retention presents, possibly at a fraction of the cost. With that being said, schools should be providing targeted interventions in order to provide students with the best chances of
