Throughout time, media has been used to reflect society. One popular method of
doing so is television. Many people rely on television as a source of entertainment
and history. From shows from the 1950s to now, culture and society have been
shown in its truest forms. Looking back at the shows from the past gives one a good
insight on how families acted in different time periods. One can analyze different
shows in different decades to see how family dynamic and trends have changed over
time. To get a grasp of the how the perception of families changed throughout time, I
choose 5 decades and watched an episode of a popular television show at the time. I
watched the 1950s show The Honeymooners to start off with because it shows the
dynamic of a white, heterosexual, cisgender couple. I then watched Good Times from
the 1970s to show an African American, heterosexual, cisgender couple and their
family. Next, I watched the 1980s show Growing Pains to illustrate a white,

My New York City
During my second day for my New York City trip, me and my friends decided to go
ahead and check out a bit early from the hotel Gallivant . Our plan was to go ahead
and walk around the city before heading to our corporate site visits planned for the
rest of the day. At that morning, I hurriedly took a shower, packed my luggage and
waited for my other friends in the hotel lobby. My friends were Arya, who is a fun
loving guywho always has room for a joke or two; Andrew who is the quiet one in
the group, Dhillon perhaps the most culturally centric person in the group who is
always enthusiastic and lastly John who is a tall, lanky kid who at times can be
clumsy and awkward.
At around 12pm is for when we were all ready and decided to go and walk around the
city, specifically in the Time Square region. The five of us were walkingon this
gloomy and windy day dressed in our business professional outfits. Crowds of
people were passing by as this central hub was illuminate with billboards from
Nike, Polo, McDonalds and Coca Cola. I remember seeing outdoor cafГ© sitting

The theme of war. The novel, The Machine Gunnersby Robert Westall tells the story
of an adolescent boy and his friends. Westall s novel gives an interesting account of
the bombings of an English town during World War II. Constant exposure to the
atrocities of war forces the main characters in The Machine Gunners to grow up
too quickly. Chas McGill attempts to survive in a confusing world by exercising
some control over his corner of Garmouth. His inability to stay a passive child in
the face of terror results in his transition from a naive collector of war souvenirs to
a leader of an underground fortress. Robert Westall provides vivid and realistic
descriptions of the bombings and their aftermath. Chas safely collects pieces of
shrapnel in the streets but also comes face to face with a disfigured, and decaying
German soldier. Westall s novel explores the theme of war through adolescent eyes
and highlights the need to support one another during difficult times. In Westall s
novel, the theme of war is portrayed through the main characters and shows how they
develop through the war time. Because of the war, it means children are changing too
quickly and forcing them to grow up quicker.
